It is Matt Jones, Ryan Lemon, Drew Franklin, Clark's pupa shop phone line. What is it? 00:00:54 Speaker 6: Seven seven two that's not it? 00:00:55 Speaker 4: Ative don two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. A Vision Auto glass text machine is. 00:01:00 Speaker 6: Seven seven two seven seven four five two five. 00:01:03 Speaker 4: Four that's impressive that you do that. And this audition spot's about TJ. Smith office. You called TJ. He'll make them pay. It is uh. 00:01:10 Speaker 5: Chilly, but still okay. 00:01:12 Speaker 4: Outside I can't really get out of my house because of the ice. Yeah, Like y'all, I don't know if I'm more forgiving of the city of Lexington or what because this. You know, I've been here now a couple of nights, and you know how steep my driveway is pretty steep. I now understand why people shovel. I used to just I used to just think, well, like it'll melt well yeah, but then in some points it turns to ice. Yeah, and then like yesterday when it when it gets wet, like when it starts to melt, forget it. So to get out of my house and get down that hill, so I can't even pull my car up to park it in the garage, forget that. I'm not going not driving down that hill, I'll slide into the lake, right. Yeah, So to get up the hill, I have to park at the on the street and walk up. 00:02:09 Speaker 6: But walking up, how do you walk up that hill? 00:02:11 Speaker 4: So one person in the neighborhood did their driveway. 00:02:15 Speaker 7: Yeah, So I already know what you're doing. 00:02:19 Speaker 4: I walk up their driveway, I go and I Spider Man from one house tiptoe through the grass. And by spider Man, I mean I get up against the wall and hold on the wall and then move through the thing. And then I get to the other place, and then I like almost crawl on my knees to the other house. 00:02:43 Speaker 5: It's a bad sight. 00:02:44 Speaker 4: And all I think is I'm glad nobody's filling because it takes me a good three or four minutes to get from the third house to my house. 00:02:53 Speaker 7: That's why we shovel. 00:02:54 Speaker 4: But I really am Spider Man. But I have no other choice. There's no other way for me to get in my house. I don't know what else I'm supposed to a hotel. 00:03:01 Speaker 6: Would you do to like a bear crawl on the ground down. 00:03:04 Speaker 4: I didn't have it, if we're being honest. Yesterday afternoon, I had to bear crawl because I fell. 00:03:10 Speaker 6: Now the true toy comes out, and I had to crawl. 00:03:14 Speaker 5: Up the ice. 00:03:15 Speaker 4: But I felt like I was the dude that climbed the building on Netflix. I was like poking my holes into the ice. 00:03:20 Speaker 7: Yeah, yep, welcome to the reality of living. In lectionn In the last few weeks to take my trash out, I've basically been ice skating over to my bench. 00:03:27 Speaker 4: Because it depends on how you area know what else I'm supposed to do unless I were to walk like four blocks around the block, which feels like a huge waste. 00:03:34 Speaker 6: Yeah, you can't park in front of your house, that's the street. You gotta park walk kind of slide. I thought about just sliding down, but that would be We do have to give a big shout out to the sun. It has done wonders sun the last forty eight hours. No one has been happier to see the sun than our mayor. I'm a close second. It's done wonders for my neighborhood. 00:03:53 Speaker 4: I saw a pile of snow. Where did I see it? I think it was at UK Football Stadium. Have you seen that pile? 00:03:59 Speaker 6: I haven't seen it. 00:04:00 Speaker 4: I think when they did the parking lot at UK Football State. There's a pile that has to be twenty five feet in the air. That one's gonna be here until opening. 00:04:11 Speaker 6: Company kick up. 00:04:12 Speaker 7: There's a pile over I think it's called the Warehouse District mirror twin all that over there, the New Country boy. They have a pile and on Instagram they're taking guesses for the day officially miss and it has like big prize packages but they've turned it into a game. 00:04:23 Speaker 5: And when will the pile go away? 00:04:24 Speaker 4: Well, this one, that one at Kamweall Stadium is gonna be there a while. But but yeah, anyway, I'm here and last night we did the ks BAR pick them first of all, really good crowd of people came up out here. We had seventy five entries into the thing, which is more than I thought we'd have. So we're gonna do it again in a couple of weeks for money. I think people enjoyed it. I learned kind of what worked and what didn't. I'd never done it for basketball. Probably gave people too many games, so it was a little hectic, but you know what, I think I got the flow of it. Drew it ended Shannon in classic KSR fashion disaster. 00:05:01 Speaker 7: Yeah, okay, we wouldn't expect anything less. 00:05:04 Speaker 4: Well, so here was my plan. Let me just tell you what my plan. My plan was, people had ten games picking the first half. Everybody did that, the finalists moved to the second half. 00:05:14 Speaker 5: The second half. 00:05:14 Speaker 4: Would all be the games that are on television television so people can watch it. Right, and that was six games, but the Yukon Butler games started thirty minutes after the first five. So here's my plan, all right, I narrow from the first half to the second half. We eliminate like thirty people. Then at the each game in the first half or excue me, in the second half, one finalist moves on to you get ten finalists, and then they have to whatever they have to predict the end of the Yukon Butler game. Okay, so that the whole crowd is watching Yukon Butler cheering it on to win the money. You see what my plan is? 00:05:51 Speaker 7: Simple enough. 00:05:52 Speaker 4: Here's where the plan goes around stupid cal Berkeley Syracuse. Now we were just there, all right, so we like they should like me. Cal Berkeley Syracuse decides to go into double overtime. First of all, what are those teams doing in the same conference? Can you find? Are there two schools in the country and in the same conference farther than cal Berkeley and Syracuse? 00:06:15 Speaker 2: Probably not. 00:06:18 Speaker 4: That's probably why they didn't want to leave each other. 00:06:23 Speaker 5: Far. 00:06:23 Speaker 7: Let's play as much as we. 00:06:25 Speaker 4: So cal Berkeley and Syracuse goes and finishes after the Yukon game. 00:06:31 Speaker 5: So that was so. 00:06:33 Speaker 4: Now I'm like, what are we going to do? I got these people, they want to win this money from Cornbradham. 00:06:37 Speaker 5: What am I gonna do? 00:06:37 Speaker 4: So I had to adjust on the fly, and I had to say to the ten people that made the finals, predict these games that start at nine and the end of eleven. They did, And I have a winner, but we all I had to send. I couldn't had to send all these people home, like we couldn't wait, right, we had to close, you know. So so I have our winners, but people had to leave without knowing the winner, which I feel bad. 00:07:01 Speaker 7: Yeah, this one doesn't sound like it was on your fault in the format. The game went crazy, but I wouldn't expect anything different. Wh is fifteen years of us trying to have a context. 00:07:09 Speaker 4: And everybody was so excited. And then okay, so seventy people here, ten finalists. 00:07:13 Speaker 5: How about this? 00:07:14 Speaker 4: A family comes, mother, father, son, two daughters, one daughter's twelve. 00:07:22 Speaker 5: Four of the five family members made the finals. 00:07:25 Speaker 6: Oh wow, dad, Dad got sleepy and left. 00:07:28 Speaker 4: He didn't even get to be in it. 00:07:29 Speaker 7: Dad left him here. 00:07:30 Speaker 5: Let me just say. 00:07:31 Speaker 4: The twelve year old Shannon came in fourth place. Wow, the twelve year old. 00:07:36 Speaker 6: One of the first qualifiers was well. 00:07:38 Speaker 5: She doesn't get money. 00:07:39 Speaker 4: I'm sorry, Eloise. You might be sitting at home like trying to find out if you want. 00:07:42 Speaker 2: A family of ball knowers. 00:07:44 Speaker 4: That's a family that knows ball. All these people had their signs and all this, and this family like gets there. 00:07:49 Speaker 7: So here I know too much. This sounds like insider trading. 00:07:52 Speaker 6: He's a coach Atlexton Catholic. 00:07:54 Speaker 7: The dad is sounds like a Terry Rozier situation. 00:07:56 Speaker 4: He left, He left, so he didn't get it all right, So real quick, let me give you the top third. Okay, So they're hearing this for the first time. Okay, And for those of you coming, you can come by next week. I'll tell you when to get your check. We'll have your money for you. So but but I know I think who you people are. Danas Stevens comes in third. 00:08:18 Speaker 6: Okay, she was around the top all the time, said her name several times. 00:08:22 Speaker 4: She was around the top. By the way, let me give a shout to Ryan Lemon. Ryan Lemon was a finalist. Shit, he made the finals. He made the final ten, and he was all over the top all night in game after game. You did amazingly well. 00:08:36 Speaker 6: Thank you, sir. 00:08:36 Speaker 8: I know ball, I'm a great handicapper. What games did you pick last night in the finals, just in general, name a game that was one of the ones you picked. 00:08:46 Speaker 6: Florida Georgia. 00:08:47 Speaker 5: There you go. 00:08:47 Speaker 8: Yeah, well done, maamma ol miss all right. See yeah, now you see why he was so good. 00:08:52 Speaker 5: Shit line. 00:08:53 Speaker 2: He didn't use his line for the first time in show history. 00:08:56 Speaker 7: I was waiting for it. 00:08:57 Speaker 4: Yeah, you didn't say Holiday express, good, We're getting it out of here. So Dana came in third, Avery is second. Uh, he'll win three hundred dollars, and in first place. Uh, and he was around the top all night. To Lee, who came in first place, iratulation, Lee, you will win a thousand dollars. So Lee, Avery and Dana you'll come by next week, uh and get your checks. And I would say to to them, cong great job, a lot of fun and uh, now when we do it next time, I'm gonna have it Roland. 00:09:27 Speaker 6: I gotta say, you know, I was standing here watching it, and Matt was so excited. You know, everybody's kind of on pins and needles. We get right down to get it down to it. And when that cow Syracuse game went into overtime, I thought somebody had punched you in the ball. 00:09:39 Speaker 4: I didn't you know you have all these at its core. I'm like, way too much of a people please. I don't think you if everybody thinks, oh, Matt just tries to make people mad for ratings. I want to please people. There's nothing better than seeing the faces on people when you when you make them happy. So all these people are here, they're all excited, and the cow Syracuse just won't end. 00:10:02 Speaker 6: Won't end, time out after time, and then I look. 00:10:05 Speaker 4: At my staff and they're sitting over there. They're like, I want to go home. 00:10:09 Speaker 6: They were all sitting at the back. 00:10:10 Speaker 4: They were all sitting at the back table like, oh in wrap. 00:10:14 Speaker 5: It up, Matt. 00:10:15 Speaker 4: So but but it did, But still it did. 00:10:18 Speaker 6: They standing around, they were so anxious. It really got anxious and exciting there towards the end, trying to see who those ten folins were and how we were gonna win the big money. 00:10:25 Speaker 5: Two lessons from the game real quick. 00:10:26 Speaker 4: Number one. 00:10:28 Speaker 6: This Vegas is good, very good. 00:10:30 Speaker 4: Vegas is good. There were three times that there was a multi person tie for closest in a game, and I'd be like, oh, well that's what the spread was. 00:10:39 Speaker 6: Yep. 00:10:39 Speaker 4: There were some people that just picked the spread, and for at least two games it worked. So the Vegas is good. Second, the more you know about the team, the worse you did in the game. The games people got the most correct Shannon were like Wafford Samford because they didn't have any knowledge. Then everybody outthinks themselves out Obama, old miss. I mean we had a couple of people picked Travis Perry as the leading scorer come. 00:11:03 Speaker 7: On where they related to Trevis the only player they knew exactly. 00:11:08 Speaker 4: So anyway, it was a lot of fun though, a lot of thank you for coming out here. 00:11:12 Speaker 6: I enjoyed it. I had really enjoyed you getting anxious there towards the end. 00:11:16 Speaker 3: You like that. 00:11:16 Speaker 6: That's what makes these chaos or contest good is when they kind of frust You get so frustrated like we were. Jennifer and I were sitting there talk about because somebody tell you, Okay, this is what we're gonna do. Okay, this is what we're gonna do. Because I had to keep it just you had to keep it just in five minutes, like, Okay, this is what we're gonna do. 00:11:30 Speaker 4: Yeah, well, sometimes you had to try to do what we're gonna do. What is Kentucky gonna do Saturday when we go to games, Well, probably the hardest game on the schedule all year, you know. 00:11:41 Speaker 6: I didn't get to keep up with the game all night in Georgia game. But they're so good, and those bigs are and there's those bigs are just so big and physical and good. I mean I I I worry about Malachi and Brandon and Yellowitch. See if they can handle those are they're Florida's big guys. So if they can kind of match him up, matchup pretty well. But we maybe got a chance. But I don't I don't see it happening. 00:12:03 Speaker 4: That's not very confident. Aberdeen returns to his former stopping ground. 00:12:09 Speaker 6: That's big. 00:12:09 Speaker 7: I hope he plays well. Ryan's right about Florida's front court, though, I don't know. I don't remember one like this. They had seventy two pain points against Alabama. It's a week and a half ago. They've got a version of Oscar. He's getting. He leads the sec and rebounds by over three rebounds and he's second in the country. I think he had twenty last But he's just one of three big guys that they have. I don't think we're gonna win. And I think Florida is as peaking in. They're ahead of everyone else kind of by a wide margin with that front court. 00:12:40 Speaker 4: But we have Brandon Garrison, that's right, we have Yeovich Malchai Diabaatee. I mean, this is a show me game for those games, it is, right, like this is a show me game. I mean, who do we put on the guy that's the Oscar like guy. 00:13:00 Speaker 6: Did bought maybe the best matchup, but you know he doesn't start working out the bench. 00:13:03 Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, but you I mean you've got Condon and I mean they're a problem. They are a problem, but we're a problem, that's right. I mean they're Beata Bully. 00:13:15 Speaker 4: Were a problem to Mario. Don't let him say that. 00:13:18 Speaker 7: They just killed Texas A and M at Texas A and M and I think Texas A and M is good. But we have one eight of nine and we don't duck any smoke, Shanon. Why are these guys so negative? Why can't we be positive about this? 00:13:30 Speaker 5: I mean the game. 00:13:32 Speaker 2: Yeah, they won at Tennessee. 00:13:34 Speaker 4: You didn't think we were gonna win at Tennessee. You didn't think we were gonna win at Arkansas? Did I picked this to win both those games by double digits, So. 00:13:42 Speaker 6: I don't remember it that way. 00:13:43 Speaker 4: Pull the tape. 00:13:45 Speaker 6: I do think we have an advantage in the back court. I mean, Boogie flann An, that leak Kid for them. I think our guys kind of matchup pretty well with the look at them. 00:13:53 Speaker 7: I agree, they were both awesome last night against Georgia. Okay, again, I'm just telling you Florida looks like a unit right now. I mean they look like a problem for us. They may look like a unit. 00:14:03 Speaker 6: We are a unit. 00:14:05 Speaker 7: I'm saying we're definitely gonna lose. I'm just saying they are way above everyone else in the college. Or wait, you are way too negative. This is Kentucky Florida, and we have won eight of nine and they're the defending national champion. 00:14:19 Speaker 5: That's what they want. 00:14:20 Speaker 3: That's what they want you to Just a couple of weeks ago, faily, remember our last and they got destroyed at home against Auburn just a couple of weeks ago. 00:14:26 Speaker 5: So there we go. 00:14:26 Speaker 7: So we look at that. 00:14:28 Speaker 4: That's what I need Shandon, me and you versus the War seven seven two seven seven four five two five four as a text machine A five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Stamford Boston College would be a two teams almost as far apart as cal Syracuse. Yes, we'll take a break. Be right back to Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back, Takey Sports Radio. I see you there, Shannon A five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Uh text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five four one person writes. Matt Jeff Goodman says Kentucky's gonna get run by thirty off the court, then he should hang out with these two Shade and me and you. Yeah, we will be more positive during ours thing. 00:15:04 Speaker 2: We're gonna run Florida out of their own building. That's what we're gonna do. 00:15:07 Speaker 6: That's what that's what we're gonna I guess we haven't learned a lesson. I mean they did go into Tennessee and one they did go into Arkansas and win and come from behind. And you know we when we gonna learn our lesson. This team has a lot of heart and a lot of fight in them. 00:15:17 Speaker 4: We've also won six straight in the Swamp. Big yeah, Wow, that's a pretty it's kind of amazing our run in these road environments. We've won six straight in the Swamp, We've won three straight in in Tennessee, and what five the last six in our in our road environments against teams that are considered our rivals, We've oddly done. 00:15:40 Speaker 2: Really well well at Arkansas over the last several years. 00:15:42 Speaker 4: Like, yeah, I agree, I think only once lost once in the last four or five at Arkansas. 00:15:47 Speaker 7: We've only lost to Florida twice since twenty eighteen. And that's the rival. 00:15:52 Speaker 4: That's a good team, the team we usually played. They won the national championship and they lost some accident. We only played them once last year, but most of the time we've played them twice. So that's a pretty good run. So again, all the more reason to be confident that I don't think I'm not on the Jeff Goodman path of getting smoked by thirty. I just think Florida playing at home, they've been on the road a few games, winning those. I just think they're much better than a lot of all the teams in the SEC. Really, but not necessarily blowout one person. Rates Matt, you got to ask right about his creepy cameos he's making. 00:16:22 Speaker 6: I had a little, you know, put a little out there. I've do some Valentine's cameos for you if you want to one. So there's been a couple that I've done that have at you. 00:16:32 Speaker 4: People can get you to give a message to their woman. 00:16:36 Speaker 6: Yeah, I think I've done like four or five of them. 00:16:39 Speaker 7: And what do you say? 00:16:40 Speaker 6: I say, you know, Valentine's Day is four lovers. 00:16:44 Speaker 4: So people are not paying you to do that. 00:16:46 Speaker 6: Uh huh yeah, And usually they'll say make it as creepy as possible. They say that to uh huh yeah, my instruction, So with permission. 00:16:55 Speaker 4: I don't even want to know what you're doing. So it's one of these gone public. Is that why this person knows that? Maybe he ordered one or for his So people can go to cameo and get you to say something to their to their woman, yeah, as or a woman could get you to say it to true man. 00:17:12 Speaker 6: Yes, yes, that's hard. 00:17:14 Speaker 4: For me to imagine that that would be well received. I feel like that's when Homer got Marge of bowling ball. 00:17:21 Speaker 7: Yeah, that was pretty fun and up for fun stuff like that. But I think if I got her a Ryan on the cameo for Valentine's that my accounts fight for me. 00:17:31 Speaker 5: You would love it. She would leave one. How many have you done? 00:17:34 Speaker 6: I think I've done four or five of the Valentine's ones. 00:17:37 Speaker 5: You used to be big. 00:17:39 Speaker 4: Into cameo, didn't you. It was a good It was a good money maker for you during COVID. 00:17:43 Speaker 1: It was. 00:17:43 Speaker 6: But I think it's kind of one of like kind of just kind of like he's got slowly fades from our public conscious. 00:17:53 Speaker 4: It's like my space. Okay, yeah, I used to do I got during COVID where I had so many requests. I ended up like I couldn't eve have you saying that? And it was a good little source of money. I haven't done it in years. They keep writing me and ask me to come back, and I just forget. 00:18:06 Speaker 6: What was good drink code? We're stuck at home. You know you can do that and just kind of er. 00:18:09 Speaker 5: I loved I. 00:18:10 Speaker 4: Loved ordering them for my friends. We said each other, some great ones. I loved it. William Hunks, Yeah, that's it. That was one of the ones I did. All right, So I'm gonna give you a little bit of your well, actually, I'll do this next segment. Let's go the phones. Who's up first shift? 00:18:26 Speaker 2: All right, let's go to Adam. 00:18:27 Speaker 4: Adam, go ahead at them. 00:18:32 Speaker 5: What's going on? 00:18:34 Speaker 9: I just wanted to say, Matt, loved your podcast with the Phil sixty eight guys. 00:18:40 Speaker 5: Thank you. 00:18:41 Speaker 9: What is your What is your relationship like now with Jeff Goodman? You all seem to be getting along pretty well, get along really well. 00:18:47 Speaker 4: I mean I had Jeff Goodman. Well, there were probably three people that, for various reasons, the col Era took either friendships or acquaintances I had and kind of ruined them. One of them was a really good friend, and then a couple of them were Jeff like people in the media that I knew, and we used to get along, and then because of differences about Cal, we stopped. And you know, all three of those I've reconnected with and it's been good. And Jeff was one of those. I mean, Jeff's always been Jeff, but we used to really get along. And then he was so anti Cal, and Cal was so anti Hymn that people almost had to choose side. 00:19:36 Speaker 5: Here's the thing about. 00:19:37 Speaker 4: Cal and I'm it not a criticism necessarily because I'm kind of like this too. I forgive people, okay, so like if you dislike me, I forgive you, Like I'm not gonna spend hate like in my heart. But I wasn't always like that. I used to be like, you're either with me or against me. When Cal was here. I don't know what he's like now, but when Cal was here, that's how he was. You're either team Cal or you're the enemy. And even with his friends, like he wanted you, you picked a side, you know what I mean, Drew Like, that's just kind of how it was. And the people he didn't like, he really didn't like, and Jeff Goodman was one of those. So it was like hard to be Jeff Goodman's friend and to also be close to Cal. It just was hard. There were people who did it, but it was hard, and I got so wrapped up in it that sometimes I would just be like, Jeff Goodman's worst and he's not the worst. And so you know, it's been good to reconnect with it. Appreciate the call. I mean, you see this with like Seth Greenberg, Like watch Seth Greenberg now, Seth Greenberg hates UK fans. He hates us because he's Col. Like it's like he's Col and that's just the way it is over the years. Mike the course, he's like like that, although Mike is nice, but you know what I mean, Like, that's that's just what he What happened during that era. 00:21:05 Speaker 7: Yeah, well green Berke, he ruined game day. That's my beef. But on Cal, especially in the early days, ks R did a lot of just defending anyone that tried to say anything about Kentucky won and done and Cal, any national media guy if they said something that we thought was offensive or even Cal, you know, we're right back at it. 00:21:22 Speaker 5: And he loved it. 00:21:23 Speaker 7: Yeah, he loved that. Have forgotten about that? 00:21:25 Speaker 4: Yeah, he loved that. He loved that about us. We rode for him kind of no matter what. And you know, we were younger, Like I said stuff back then I wouldn't say now, but you learn. 00:21:42 Speaker 6: So while we're talking about this, so do you think he felt betrayed when things started going south for and we didn't defend him as much as we he thought we should have. 00:21:51 Speaker 4: I think in Cal's eye, when he brings you in, it's a betrayal to criticize at all, which is a weakness of his. Like the way to be a good leader, you have to accept criticism from people who care about you. You kind of have to shut off criticism from the world. But when people care about you, you can't get mad if they criticize you. So, you know, most of my public criticisms of cal I privately told him way before that. 00:22:25 Speaker 5: But he didn't want to hear that. 00:22:27 Speaker 4: He didn't want to hear any of it ever, And to me, that's a mistake. When I see leaders do that, they're making a mistake. If you, if ever, if all criticism makes you a bad person, that's bad. 00:22:40 Speaker 6: So when you go nineteen sixteen and lose to Saint Peter's back, what do. 00:22:44 Speaker 4: You want us to say? 00:22:45 Speaker 6: Exactly you want. 00:22:46 Speaker 5: Us to go? That's good. 00:22:49 Speaker 6: Year. 00:22:52 Speaker 4: It's supposed to say. 00:22:54 Speaker 5: You can't turn poop into FILET Mignon. 00:22:58 Speaker 4: Yeah, so we'll take a right ry maxx KSR. 00:23:03 Speaker 5: TJ. 00:23:03 Speaker 4: Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ. 00:23:06 Speaker 7: He'll make them pay. 00:23:07 Speaker 4: Now. 00:23:07 Speaker 3: More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. Here's Matt Jones, great song. 00:23:12 Speaker 4: MATC. Davis, Right yep, right yep. Willie Nelson did a version of this song too. 00:23:17 Speaker 6: Oh he did. That's the only version I think I've ever heard. 00:23:19 Speaker 4: If I'm nine two eighty seven. Every time I do these sort of like cow thing, like the relationship thing, people are always lights up with questions. One person says, Matt, don't you think there's difference between public criticism and private feedback. Yes, but when your job is public criticism, you can't not do it. It's like asking a lawnmower not to mow lawns like I have to. I have to say what I think about this stuff, so like you couldn't. That's why it's probably hard for coaches to be friends with media members like I don't think media members like I'm friends with Vince Merrill makes it very hard for me to probably completely publicly. I don't think in the future I'll ever become friends with any of these coaches again. I really like I I was friends with Dwayne Peevee, friends of Vince. I won't say you're friends of cow but like good connection, I'm not gonna ever. I don't think I'm ever gonna do that yet. I think it's a mistake Ryan to be friends with the coaches because you can't really be objective. 00:24:26 Speaker 6: Had a news director tell me years ago in Evansville, John Stern said, do you not be friends with the people you cover? Coaches, players, It's a mistake. You can't because it's gonna come a time we've got to be critical of them. 00:24:36 Speaker 4: You have to. There's nothing you could and like, it's just yeah, So I think it's I won't do it again. I think there was h it's just not. I'll be like acquaintances to get news from them, and I'll be nice to them, but like, I'm not gonna be I just don't think it's a smart thing to do. 00:24:54 Speaker 6: You kind of gotta keep them at arms linked you do a little bit. 00:24:57 Speaker 4: Do you agree with that? 00:24:58 Speaker 5: Yeah? 00:24:58 Speaker 7: And I didn't have a connection call at all. Really, I didn't need one. I don't care to have one. My My thing was just, and I've said many times rolling on the board last night, it's very simple for me. Did Kentucky win, did Kentucky lose? And that's gonna be my emotions. There's no personal agendas with any of this. I want Kentucky to be the best at everything, and when they're not, I'm gonna sound like you, right. 00:25:16 Speaker 4: Away with stuff like what's funny is? And I think it's just because you're like so good natured. Both of you get away with things like I can't like it's funny like you right, will be much harsher with these coaches in some ways that I am Drew definitely, But they don't ever get mad at you because they get mad at me for what you say. 00:25:43 Speaker 6: You're the host, You're the figurehead for this show, so yeah. 00:25:47 Speaker 5: What don't get mad at me? 00:25:48 Speaker 7: I hear about it, but I just don't care. 00:25:50 Speaker 4: But they don't call you like Mark Stoops Once. I think he'll be okay with him me saying this. He called me livid about something he heard. I said this was a couple of years ago. And I said, well, first of all, I didn't say that Drew said it. But I said, I think what Drew meant. 00:26:06 Speaker 5: Was burber burber buh. 00:26:08 Speaker 4: And I go, but if you want to call Drew, I'm sure he'll talk to you about and he goes, no, no, no, I'm not gonna call Himrew's good guy. I was like, what, he was the one that actually said it. 00:26:18 Speaker 6: There's been things that callers have called this show and said. People say they heard it on KSR. When the coaches get word of it, they think we said it. It was on KSR. 00:26:27 Speaker 4: All right, So let's it's time for my Matt Jones Daily Olympic Update. 00:26:31 Speaker 5: Are you ready? 00:26:31 Speaker 6: I'm ready? 00:26:32 Speaker 4: All right. So there's a lot of big stories. Okay, Number one, Canada place hockey here in just a few minutes. 00:26:37 Speaker 6: We're gonna have it on here and we're gonna have it over here. 00:26:39 Speaker 4: So uh, Canada plays hockey. But those are not the ones that I think you're probably most interested in. The Finish ski jumping coach okay, okay, head coach of Finnish ski jumping. He was asked to leave the Olympics because he, quote Shannon had been drinking too much around the village. He can't be doing that, can't be doing How much do you think the finished coach was drinking? If he was drinking too much around the village, clearly they have alcohol there and they're getting wasted all And he's from Finland, where I think people drink like when they get up in the morning. 00:27:15 Speaker 2: Yeah, brush their teeth of that stuff. 00:27:17 Speaker 6: Yes, we can guarantee he wasn't the only coach out there drinking. 00:27:20 Speaker 4: But they sent him home, which also makes me think he must have really been going. 00:27:25 Speaker 7: Wow, it's not the amount. There's a lot of people drinking in the village. I mean there's Russians that just drink like water. They're drinking everywhere. He had to have done something related. 00:27:35 Speaker 4: To the sent him home. So the ski jumpers have no coach. So if you see Finland ski jumping and they just fall off and fly into the air, they didn't have a coach there to tell them go down. I think they'll get better. 00:27:45 Speaker 7: They got their drunk coach out. 00:27:47 Speaker 5: Of the way. 00:27:47 Speaker 4: The coach is gonna say go down, and they're not gonna do it because they don't have a coach there. 00:27:53 Speaker 6: All right. 00:27:53 Speaker 4: Second, Breezy Johnson, Okay, I don't know if he saw Breezy Johnson. She won the gold medal in the Downhills. Her name's Breezy. So she and there's another event, the Super G. She's doing their Super G. She crashes and flies into the woods. She's okay, but when she gets after she gets up and she gets taken to the bottom, you know she's sad because she crashed, can't win the gold medal, et cetera. Her husband or her boyfriend gets down on one knee and ask her, is that the right time Shannon to propose after a crash in the Olympic room? 00:28:33 Speaker 10: No? 00:28:33 Speaker 2: Absolutely not. I mean I guess it could make you feel a little bit better about crashing, right, But. 00:28:39 Speaker 5: That's the question. 00:28:39 Speaker 4: Does it make you feel better? 00:28:41 Speaker 1: Is it? 00:28:41 Speaker 4: Because clearly he planned to do it after she finished well yeah, So do you sit there and go, oh, no, I shouldn't you know? It was gonna do this to celebrate. But then do you go, well, no, wait a minute, this will make her feel better. 00:29:00 Speaker 5: No, I don't know. You go ahead and go through with no. 00:29:02 Speaker 2: I think you get a call a audible at that point, maybe. 00:29:06 Speaker 6: You're a no, what do you think? I'm sure there's a lot of thought going into this. She's in two events. I'm gonna do it after the second event. 00:29:12 Speaker 5: But she won the gold after the first event. 00:29:14 Speaker 6: But if you give it to her, then he throws her off for the second event. I think he's His strategy was probably like, I'm gonna wait when she's all done after the second event, it'll be a wonderful moment for us. 00:29:23 Speaker 4: But she had flown into the trees. 00:29:27 Speaker 7: I go even farther, dude, go sit in the stands and cheer her on and let her be an Olympian this week. You can get engaged another time. It has none to with her crash. This is a big moment for her. Let it be her gold medal moment, and then you all can have your moment another She'll get two big life days. But combine it all at once. You're distracting her from this personal achieve I don't know her. I'm assume she's worked her whole life to get to this. Sit your ass down in the stands and do the ring another time. This is about her and her Olympic gold journey. 00:29:55 Speaker 4: All right, strong statements. 00:29:56 Speaker 7: So he tried to insert himself in her situation. Be a supportive husband, cheer, give her a big hug, but don't make it about you and your marriage at the Olympics. 00:30:04 Speaker 4: Wow, I like it. Okay. Third, you remember the guy who cheated on his girlfriend and then at the finish line said that that that they were you know, he had he wanted to win her back. 00:30:17 Speaker 6: Yeah, she's made a statement. 00:30:20 Speaker 7: Oh I didn't see this. 00:30:21 Speaker 4: She made a statement and said something to the effect of, uh, he has caused me a lot of hurt. Basically said, I ain't getting back together with him? 00:30:31 Speaker 5: Good for her? 00:30:32 Speaker 2: How great is that the guy to the world, And she's like, nope, help, that's happening. 00:30:38 Speaker 4: She essentially says. 00:30:40 Speaker 6: No, and like, leave me alone, cause, like we said, we I'm sure that guy thought I'm gonna win her back over by propressing my mistake and my love for her to the world. She'll be so touched by she'll take me back. 00:30:52 Speaker 4: So is this the worst decision of all time to do it? Not only did you embarrass yourself on the national stage, but she international stage. But then she also says, no, we're not getting back together. Now the next girl you're going to date with him? Like, hey, you're that You're the guy that cheated on his girlfriend for three months and that told the world and then like embarrassed yourself as he managed. 00:31:13 Speaker 7: The way to hurt all parties involved here make it even worse for everyone. 00:31:17 Speaker 4: Yeah, he took the private cheating and he not only broke her heart, he now publicly embarrassed. 00:31:24 Speaker 2: He need to go back to the woman he cheated with because he could be the only woman that would take him. 00:31:29 Speaker 7: She'll be like, no, you went crawling back to her for the world. 00:31:33 Speaker 4: That's a great point. 00:31:34 Speaker 7: He's gonna be along with this ski. 00:31:36 Speaker 4: Finally there's a Ukrainian. Uh, there was a Ukrainian skeleton rider. That's the one where you go head first. 00:31:43 Speaker 5: Okay. 00:31:44 Speaker 4: He was wearing a helmet that had pictures of victims of the Russian attack on Ukraine and he wanted to wear it that the IOC has a rule that in your in your uniform, you can't make a political statement. He refused to back down, and they wouldn't let him skeleton What do you think? It was pictures of people who had died in the war. So the IOC woman that made the decision was crying. She cried and said, I hate to have to do this, but this is the rule. Would you what do you think? 00:32:24 Speaker 6: I'm hearing this for the first time. I admire the guy for standing up for something like this, But you know, if they let somebody get by with it, then other people get by with it. I'm glad, she said. She was crying because that's a that's a tough decision to have to make, but that the right decision. But I admire him for standing up for what he believes in do you. 00:32:40 Speaker 7: Think I'd tell him his message got out more than it would have. I heard this on the radio this morning. We're talking about it now. I saw it all over Twitter. If he had just I don't know what sport he's in, if he had just skeleton all right, If he had just skeletoned his way to the finish line with that, I don't think he would. 00:32:55 Speaker 4: He was already getting a lot of media attention because he's from Ukraine. He's the only athlete I think for about I'm sure. 00:32:59 Speaker 7: He was saying, you got more now because I think even more people are talking about what do. 00:33:02 Speaker 4: You think, Shannon? Should they have made an exception to the rule? 00:33:06 Speaker 3: No, but because they didn't exactly what Drew's saying. We're talking about it on Kentucky Sports Radio. We would not have been talking about it otherwise. True, but you can't make an exception for that. I mean, the rule is a rule. 00:33:15 Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, his argument was, this is pictures of people. That's not a political statement. It's a tribute to the people that died. And the IOC was like, there's no way to say that though without like bringing up the fact that they died in war. 00:33:33 Speaker 7: Right, are there rules against pictures of people. I've never seen that. 00:33:36 Speaker 4: I don't know if there are rules against pictures of people or not. I would assume maybe. But anyway, so there you go. That is your Olympic news. Notice I gave you no results for many of them. More more more to come. I'm enjoying the Olympics. 00:33:49 Speaker 5: Of the stories. 00:33:50 Speaker 6: Those stories we had today. 00:33:51 Speaker 4: You know, I'm not going to go into it, but there's a story about I don't know if you saw the ice dancing the French sassy evil couple versus the Have you seen that. 00:33:59 Speaker 5: I watched it. 00:34:00 Speaker 7: I have a complaint. Our boy right here, where is he? Johnny Weir before they started, said to beat America. France needs this. They've never gotten that high in their careers, and I went he just announced her gesus right there. 00:34:11 Speaker 4: Well, but they also they have an they have an evil history, like they've all like, you gotta go read the French shouldn't have won last It was an upset our American very couple friend that we there we well, it's not good. You can go read for yourself all the all the issues A five, nine, two, eight oh, twenty two eighty seven. We'll take a break. Very backs KISR. Welcome back, teke you Sports Radio A five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. Uh it's text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five four one person rights. 00:34:45 Speaker 5: I feel good about Saturday. 00:34:46 Speaker 4: We're finally playing with enough consistency that I think Pope can focus on the game plan and not worry about effort, et cetera. Agree with that, I do. 00:34:55 Speaker 5: Agree with that. 00:34:56 Speaker 6: I just think Florida is just really really good. Like I feel better about our chances going to Auburn, Georgia South carolist on. 00:35:03 Speaker 4: This is the hardest game left on the schedule, I think far I said before the season, I thought the hardest game on the schedule was at Louisville. But Florida is now better than Louisville, so I think you could argue the hardest game is at Florida, right. 00:35:17 Speaker 7: Florida's last four SEC games, two of them on the road against good teams they won by twenty twenty one, twenty three, and this one so much I can't even do the math. That's like forty something thirty eight. Those are the last four games. It's a lot, and three of those were on the road. 00:35:36 Speaker 4: But this one. 00:35:36 Speaker 7: I'm just saying they have turned a corner. The back courts are really good. Flann and Lee looked great last night, and that three headed monster of a front court is unlike anything we'll see. 00:35:46 Speaker 4: Yeah, what Persson rights, Matt, your situation is different than things like the lawnmower cow blasted your career into the atmosphere and you turned on him. Well, I didn't turn on him. I judged what he did. But that's also no offense to you start a really dumb argument. He did, without question, have a huge effect on our career mind specifically. However, that doesn't mean that you have undying loyalty to the point that you're not fair. Let me give you an example. If Donald Trump picks as one of his cabinet members someone they owe him for that pick. Am I correct, yes, But does that mean that if they see him doing something wrong, they shouldn't mention it. If so, then you end up with someone who has no checks on them forever. So you can't have that attitude. You can't have the attitude that, Okay, well I owe you a part of my career, so thus I'll never ever say you did anything wrong. If you do that, you end up with what we had when Joe Biden was president, A ton of people who had their jobs because of him, and when his mental well acuity was going, no one would say it because they all owed him their jobs. Right, you can't live like that. 00:37:07 Speaker 7: And with the cow comparison, you had one tournament win in five years. If we're gonna be well, how many years are we gonna go with one win until we can say something like we have to speak up when Kentucky basketball is not even relevant in March madness. 00:37:19 Speaker 4: And let's say you don't even know Mark Pope because most of you listening don't. Everyone loves him, everyone considers him part of us. But that only gets you so far. He still has to win, right, you know, that's the nature of this business. 00:37:36 Speaker 6: In this job, it was not okay to lose to Saint Peter's and to lose to Oakland and to have like one tournament win in five years. It's not okay to not get to the weekend of the SEC tournament that was not Kentucky basketball. He deserved to be criticized. Yeah, I think he was just so thin skinned he couldn't handle it. 00:37:51 Speaker 4: Most remodels feel like your house turns into a construction zone and you're afraid to walk through. But a State Renovations plans projects so families can live, work and function. You can clear schedule, You get clear schedules, daily updates, and a project manager. State Renovations has been great for us and it can be great for you. Plan now so your homework's better before spring. Go to a state renos dot com slash ksr. That's a State renos dot com slash ksr. Who's next? 00:38:18 Speaker 5: Shit, Jerry, Jerry, Go ahead, Jerry. 00:38:22 Speaker 10: Hey man that I'm not thinking about the l Passway yesterday. I hadn't flown down there. A lot a lot of people don't realize that that airport and Fort Bliss are like right on top of each other. That in fact, when you fly into El Paso's airport, that they will warn you to verify which rouma you're on because the main north south runways at El Paso and Fort Bliss are parallel to each other, and people have made mistakes and actually the land of Fort Bliss. 00:38:48 Speaker 4: By the way, it turns out, they say it was a party balloon that shut the air well. 00:38:56 Speaker 10: Yeah, the problem was Fort Bliss. 00:38:58 Speaker 4: Hang before I want to focus before you go to the problem with Fort Bliss. 00:39:02 Speaker 6: Yeah, they said they were shooting like their lasers at a balloon. 00:39:08 Speaker 4: Jerry, stop, we'll get to you. 00:39:10 Speaker 7: They just keep talking to us like we're idiots. We don't believe it was a party balloon or what do you think it was? Well, I don't know, but a party balloon. That's the best you could come up with before shutting down for a party balloon. We got bigger problems. 00:39:21 Speaker 4: Well, that's why I think that's what it is. Like if it was not a party balloon, that makes us look stupid to say it's a party balloon. So the fact that they have not denied it was a party balloon makes me believe it was a party balloon because, like the Department, the government does not want to think make us think our military closes down at airplace for a party balloon. So once that story comes out, if they don't deny it, Shannon, then to me, that means it's probably true. 00:39:48 Speaker 2: Right, we're talking about just a normal little balloon. 00:39:51 Speaker 4: I don't know it was the culte was party balloon, But why would they lie and wanted to be a party balloon? 00:39:58 Speaker 7: So we'll be like, oh, it's a balloon. What's next? 00:40:00 Speaker 2: You shut down for days because of that? 00:40:03 Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I think they. I think they thought it was something else. They got fooled by a balloon, and now they're embarrassed. Well, fire everyone. 00:40:12 Speaker 7: If we're shutting down stuff for balloons, all right, go ahead, Jerry. 00:40:16 Speaker 10: Well, what I'm gonna say is the kind of what you're talking about is that they're real sensitive to what goes on around Fort Bliss because Fort Bliss, addition to be the home first Calf is where the army tests and develops all of its anti aircraft capabilities, like Iron Dome, all this stuff. And in fact, you see that mountain range. On the other side of that mountain range is White Sands, and that's they test all this stuff, and they're hyper sensitive to what goes on there right next to the border. 00:40:47 Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I appreciate what. Okay, I can't do anymore. If the if they if they're shooting down balloons, that makes me a little conservative. 00:40:55 Speaker 6: Well, don't never say that. I guess they're trying to use lasers, and I think that's why they shut down. 00:40:59 Speaker 5: They said it was lasers. 00:41:00 Speaker 6: There's a report out there were shooting lasers, and so that's why they shut it down. 00:41:05 Speaker 5: What does that mean shoot a laser? I don't know. 00:41:07 Speaker 7: I got test them. 00:41:08 Speaker 4: Yeah, but what does that mean a laser like I mean, I think of like Star Wars. 00:41:13 Speaker 7: It wouldn't look kind of like that. 00:41:14 Speaker 5: Maybe so we have that. 00:41:16 Speaker 4: Yeah, why do we use bullets at all? If we have lasers? It feels like lasers would be much more effective. 00:41:23 Speaker 7: Well, we don't want everyone walking around with lasers. That seems like a problematic. 00:41:27 Speaker 6: I just didn't have our military had the lasers. 00:41:30 Speaker 5: I didn't mean people on the street. 00:41:32 Speaker 4: I'm just saying, like they have a lot of technology we don't have a Yeah, I just didn't know, Shannon, did you know we had lasers? 00:41:40 Speaker 7: No? 00:41:41 Speaker 3: No, I guess I didn't. I don't know what our military is up to. They all kinds of stuff we don't know about. 00:41:47 Speaker 7: It, Like fifty years that's those aren't that? 00:41:50 Speaker 5: Yeah? 00:41:50 Speaker 7: Unique? We probably have much crazier stuff than lasers. 00:41:54 Speaker 4: Okay, I'm not, I'm not. I don't know anything about this. I just you strike us on your birthday balloon. But it start out what's really going on? And it was I don't understand why they would let balloon be the answer because they're stupid and they think we're still not that stupid. I mean, somebody there would go this looks dumb. I mean, we're the three of us as radio hosts are not smarter than everyone in the military. We're smart enough to know it wasn't a birthday balloon. I think it was because I think if it wasn't, they would tell us that. So we'll degree to disagree. We'll take a break. Come back number two scr
