<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, Welcome to Game Mess Mornings with Me Jeff Grub,
<v Speaker 1>your host from GiantBomb dot com. Thank you for tuning in.
<v Speaker 1>In this episode, we're gonna be talking about Sony's plans
<v Speaker 1>for the rest of the year, and plenty of Nintendo news.
<v Speaker 1>It's gonna be a good one because we have John
<v Speaker 1>Martin on the show. John, how are you doing?
<v Speaker 2>Uh?
<v Speaker 3>Jeff, there is Rhythm Heaven in the air. So I'm
<v Speaker 3>doing pretty well.
<v Speaker 4>How about you?
<v Speaker 5>Oh? I love it. Yes, I'm happy it's coming soon.
<v Speaker 1>We'll talk about that for sure. Yeah, I'm doing pretty well.
<v Speaker 1>I was telling you. Kids are on spring break, so
<v Speaker 1>it's been fun hanging out with them this week. Okay,
<v Speaker 1>I got I started getting the office set up for
<v Speaker 1>Mike's gonna come over. We're gonna record the Endurance run.
<v Speaker 1>So I've moved some stuff around to the couches over here,
<v Speaker 1>and immediately, like a cat, Addie was just like, I'm
<v Speaker 1>gonna lay down on this couch, Hi, Addie.
<v Speaker 5>Oh yeah, she's making herself comfy. So yeah, it's nice
<v Speaker 5>over here.
<v Speaker 1>And then I've been doing housework, did the wallpapering, got
<v Speaker 1>a new bed, so I pieced that together. Last night,
<v Speaker 1>feeling good, getting being productive. It's nice, although it doesn't
<v Speaker 1>leave a ton of time for games. But John, I'm
<v Speaker 1>waiting for Pragmata. I'm waiting for Tomodaci life. So I'm
<v Speaker 1>like in this nice middle ground where i could pick
<v Speaker 1>up something for five minutes, but I'm not going to
<v Speaker 1>be getting in it deep into any games right in
<v Speaker 1>this moment, how about you.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I am kind of in the middle of games
<v Speaker 3>right now, kind of been playing a lot of different
<v Speaker 3>retro games. Been on a big star Fox kick, so
<v Speaker 3>I've run of course, I've gotten through star Fox Super Nintendo,
<v Speaker 3>which I beat for the first time, and then my
<v Speaker 3>like ninetieth run of star Fox sixty four, so that's good.
<v Speaker 3>Played a lot of Pokemon fire Red last week for
<v Speaker 3>a friendly tournament at my friend's Easter party, and that
<v Speaker 3>was a lot of fun. I won the champagne, so
<v Speaker 3>that was very cool. But yeah, besides that, just like
<v Speaker 3>kind of messing around with the Ay and Thor and
<v Speaker 3>still trying to get Pacopia to the finish line. There's
<v Speaker 3>a lot of like little things I still need to
<v Speaker 3>collect to actually get to those credits, so been chipping
<v Speaker 3>away at that. But yeah, man, just kind of hanging
<v Speaker 3>out playing games and weathering the storms that be. There's
<v Speaker 3>a lot in the air, but always a good time
<v Speaker 3>to play video games, either by yourself or with friends
<v Speaker 3>and get some much needed R and R.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, exactly, it's you know, and games can be a
<v Speaker 1>little bit like a respite. But it's also like, oh man,
<v Speaker 1>these games are very expensive and everything over there is
<v Speaker 1>kind of still a headache. But I don't know, find
<v Speaker 1>a game you like and stick to it, or like
<v Speaker 1>you play old games. There's tons of old games you
<v Speaker 1>could play for very through very inexpensive means. I highly
<v Speaker 1>recommend it. All right, let's get into it. Everybody, We're

<v Speaker 5>Hello YouTube.
<v Speaker 1>All right, we have a lot to get into, so
<v Speaker 1>let's start the morning mess with next Sony State of
<v Speaker 1>Play coming April sixteenth, according to a report. This is
<v Speaker 1>from Eddie McCoo at Game Spot, who says Sony's Next
<v Speaker 1>State of Play broadcast will take place very soon. According
<v Speaker 1>to a new report, prominent leaker Nate the Hate reported
<v Speaker 1>that the next State of Play event may take place
<v Speaker 1>on Thursday, April sixteenth. However, he said this is an
<v Speaker 1>unconfirmed date for now. He added that it appears to
<v Speaker 1>be a State of Play that has focused more on
<v Speaker 1>third party games, but he isn't one hundred percent certain
<v Speaker 1>on that. April sixteenth is also the day that Ubisoft
<v Speaker 1>will reportedly finally announced finally officially announced the recently confirmed
<v Speaker 1>Assassin's Creed for Black Flag remake, but Nate the Hate
<v Speaker 1>said he doesn't know if this is connected to the
<v Speaker 1>rumored State of Play. I have not heard anything, but
<v Speaker 1>I also haven't been asking around. It's been a minute
<v Speaker 1>since I kind of talked a touch base with some
<v Speaker 1>of the folks over there that might know what they're
<v Speaker 1>talking about. You know, it sounds completely reasonable to me
<v Speaker 1>that Sony would have another one, especially lined up for
<v Speaker 1>this Assassin's Creed announcement. Their last State of Play was
<v Speaker 1>the one that everyone liked, right, Everyone was pretty happy
<v Speaker 1>with that.
<v Speaker 5>I'm trying to remember exactly what was in there.
<v Speaker 1>They've kind of set up their future pretty well, but
<v Speaker 1>do they need to start talking more about what's coming
<v Speaker 1>for the rest of the year, And then obviously maybe
<v Speaker 1>through their third party partners.
<v Speaker 3>That's kind of the weird thing for me is that
<v Speaker 3>I feel like it is still so fresh of how
<v Speaker 3>that last state of play happened. I mean, the big
<v Speaker 3>one for me coming out of there is in new
<v Speaker 3>Castlevania game, and we're seeing that like in an hour.
<v Speaker 3>I completely forgot about that till this morning, but there's
<v Speaker 3>a showcase showing that there. So yeah, Like, I don't
<v Speaker 3>know if they necessarily need it in the sense that
<v Speaker 3>they need to remind people, hey, this is why you
<v Speaker 3>should buy a PlayStation five, but in terms of like
<v Speaker 3>keeping those third parties happy, keeping them still investing in
<v Speaker 3>the platform heavy like keep up the PlayStation five pro support. Right,
<v Speaker 3>it's all about, like, you know, kind of making the
<v Speaker 3>ecosystem a lot more populated with bigger games or games
<v Speaker 3>that should be positioned as big rather than things that
<v Speaker 3>are Like, we definitely needed an update. We have no
<v Speaker 3>idea what's coming out on this thing, but we got sorrows,
<v Speaker 3>We got so many other things coming up. So yeah,
<v Speaker 3>I mean I would I'm always down for another gaming showcase,
<v Speaker 3>but yeah, it does feel a little rushed.
<v Speaker 4>I guess I don't know, what do you think?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's definitely. I mean, I guess it's going to
<v Speaker 1>depend on the focus. You know, they're probably going to
<v Speaker 1>come in here. It will feel very different because the
<v Speaker 1>last one did have quite a few things in there
<v Speaker 1>that were first party and this is partner stuff. It
<v Speaker 1>could be just something that they planned on the schedule
<v Speaker 1>a long time ago, and then they want to do
<v Speaker 1>announce their stuff before that.
<v Speaker 5>So it's like this was always going to feel obligatory.
<v Speaker 1>There's a strong chance this just feels like, oh, another
<v Speaker 1>one of those Staya plays, a very forgettable one, and
<v Speaker 1>that'll be fine because they've been delivering pretty strongly on
<v Speaker 1>those recently. And you know, we're getting Wolverine this year, sorrows.
<v Speaker 1>What else are we getting from PlayStations? Can you can
<v Speaker 1>you remember off the top of your head. I was
<v Speaker 1>going to look it up.
<v Speaker 4>We just have that got a war game.
<v Speaker 3>I really can't think about much that's coming out.
<v Speaker 4>I don't think they have a lot.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, legends, Yes, that's yeah, sound fair.
<v Speaker 4>That actually might be out I have already came out.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah yeah, I don't know.
<v Speaker 3>So I mean, maybe this is a time to show
<v Speaker 3>like some of your big partner projects that will be
<v Speaker 3>kind of patting out the year until we get.
<v Speaker 4>To a Wolverine.
<v Speaker 3>But yeah, April is always that time where it really
<v Speaker 3>does feel like, hey, we're just like this is these
<v Speaker 3>release dates for the first half of the year, maybe
<v Speaker 3>early summer are kind of locked down, so let's just
<v Speaker 3>show those.
<v Speaker 1>Right and then and then, you know, if it is
<v Speaker 1>a third party focused thing, I mean that is where
<v Speaker 1>a lot of the bread is being buttered for Sony
<v Speaker 1>that I mean, pragmatis coming out very soon. If this,
<v Speaker 1>if this happens in the next week, they could still
<v Speaker 1>talk about that and kind of really hype that up
<v Speaker 1>because you know, every time someone plays that demo, they
<v Speaker 1>come away beyond like this game could be really good. Uh,
<v Speaker 1>maybe want to hype that up. Double seven First Lights
<v Speaker 1>not coming out long after that. Let's see, oh, get
<v Speaker 1>like Halo Campaign Evolved could show up at this thing, right,
<v Speaker 1>because that's the PlayStation, so there's things they can do
<v Speaker 1>to set a certain level of excitement. And then, of course,
<v Speaker 1>like the next thing on top of that is you know,
<v Speaker 1>they will have plenty of opportunities for the smaller games
<v Speaker 1>that would fall through the cracks to have an opportunity
<v Speaker 1>to stand next to some of these other ones and
<v Speaker 1>have a chance of getting some like like shine to
<v Speaker 1>them based on that, which is often what.
<v Speaker 5>State of plays are.
<v Speaker 1>It's like, let's boost up some of these other games
<v Speaker 1>through the power of the bigger games, although they've often
<v Speaker 1>failed to deliver on some of the bigger games and
<v Speaker 1>state of place in the past. We'll see, I might
<v Speaker 1>ask Graham. But at this point it's like it'll happen.
<v Speaker 1>If it happens, and if it doesn't, it doesn't, no
<v Speaker 1>big deal. But if it does, we'll talk over it.
<v Speaker 1>I'm looking forward to seeing it myself, even if it's
<v Speaker 1>like one of those standard state of plays that is
<v Speaker 1>just kind of like, oh, there was no Wolverine here
<v Speaker 1>or Wolverine equivalent. I've made my piece with that. That's
<v Speaker 1>what these shows can often be. That's just fine, all right,
<v Speaker 1>let's keep going here. Sampson's launch woes deemed unacceptable incoming patch.
<v Speaker 1>But first I would say, John, are you familiar with Sampson,
<v Speaker 1>this new game that came out.
<v Speaker 3>No, if you saw in the doc right now me
<v Speaker 3>copying pasting it into a browser, that's kind of where
<v Speaker 3>I'm at right now.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, it is Sampson a Tendalston Story, which is the
<v Speaker 1>debut title from just Cause developer Christopher Sunberg's new studio,
<v Speaker 1>Liquid Swords. It is an open world action adventure kind
<v Speaker 1>of crime game. It looks like GTA, it's like trying
<v Speaker 1>to be a GTA, and it's from someone who has
<v Speaker 1>just caused lineage and there was some excitement about it,
<v Speaker 1>not a ton but it's out now and it's kind
<v Speaker 1>of got a lot of mixed reviews, let's say, a
<v Speaker 1>lot of negative reviews for sure. I think it's somewhere
<v Speaker 1>in the fifties on Open Critic or something like that.
<v Speaker 1>It's it's kind of missed pretty hard. But you know,
<v Speaker 1>I'm surprised that someone even tried a game like this
<v Speaker 1>in twenty twenty six from like a small new studio.
<v Speaker 5>Hey, can we make.
<v Speaker 1>Something that can stand alongside maybe even the previous Grand
<v Speaker 1>Theft Autos?
<v Speaker 5>And it sounds like this one has mostly missed it.
<v Speaker 1>But yeah, the story here is that they're going to
<v Speaker 1>continue to try to update it. The Gritty Crime Adventures
<v Speaker 1>launch has been a bit rocky, mainly due to bugs,
<v Speaker 1>and Liquid Swords is already working working to address via
<v Speaker 1>upatch those bugs, and that's set to release on Friday.
<v Speaker 1>Early impressions of Samson this is a quote now are mixed,
<v Speaker 1>and many of you are experiencing game breaking bugs and
<v Speaker 1>performance issues. Sunberg's himself shared in a post announcing the
<v Speaker 1>upcoming update. That's unacceptable, and we are listening to everyone's
<v Speaker 1>feedback and are hard at work to deliver the game.
<v Speaker 1>We spent years of our lives developing. Launching game is
<v Speaker 1>a ton of work, and I'm proud of the effort
<v Speaker 1>our team has put into seeing Samson's from its initial
<v Speaker 1>concept through to the update, which is set to go
<v Speaker 1>live on Friday, April tenth, is mainly focused on fixing
<v Speaker 1>performance issues, game crashes, and bugs that prevent progression progression.
<v Speaker 5>The patch, excuse me.
<v Speaker 1>Will also add the ability for players to utilize up
<v Speaker 1>to eight save files. Okay, I just this is a
<v Speaker 1>curiosity to me, a John where it's like, man, this,
<v Speaker 1>I can't believe this game exists. I'm kind of glad
<v Speaker 1>that people are trying things like this. I thought we
<v Speaker 1>were past that era. I'm not surprised it hasn't worked.
<v Speaker 1>Do you think that this is something that, through like
<v Speaker 1>ongoing support and giving it love and care, that they
<v Speaker 1>can make it into something that people consider maybe a
<v Speaker 1>sleeper hit or something.
<v Speaker 3>What do you think, Yeah, no, I definitely think there
<v Speaker 3>is an opportunity to turn it around if they have
<v Speaker 3>like the means to do so. I saw one of
<v Speaker 3>the big things that needs working out is like the
<v Speaker 3>action and car controls. Also saw that this is Some
<v Speaker 3>of the people involved are also behind the Map Max
<v Speaker 3>game they released like twenty fifteen or so, and that
<v Speaker 3>game rocks, like that game is so much of us,
<v Speaker 3>like they hidden Yeah, so that's a hidden gem, Like
<v Speaker 3>I feel like more people should check that out. But yeah,
<v Speaker 3>I mean it's all about like where are the lacking points?
<v Speaker 3>Is it something like you can just update the performance
<v Speaker 3>and it'll run better. Is there something bugged about the
<v Speaker 3>way that game controls? I think there's an opportunity to
<v Speaker 3>do so. I think underdog stories are kind of rare
<v Speaker 3>in video games, so when they happen and they're done well,
<v Speaker 3>I think it could set a game up for success.
<v Speaker 3>But yeah, it's not going to be the next Triple
<v Speaker 3>A game, and I think some people are okay with that.
<v Speaker 3>So there is an audience for a Grand Theft Auto
<v Speaker 3>style game. We certainly didn't have it with mind's eye.
<v Speaker 3>But you know, there there's always room to fit there,
<v Speaker 3>especially in the lead up to a game like that,
<v Speaker 3>if you do want something that'll you know, like, you know,
<v Speaker 3>just make the time waiting for GTA six a little
<v Speaker 3>bit easier.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, you know, I think we are coming out of
<v Speaker 1>a world where it's like it was possible to do
<v Speaker 1>these things, and then there was always the opportunity for
<v Speaker 1>developers to be like, hey, grand Theft Autos coming, we
<v Speaker 1>can do our own in the lead up to that,
<v Speaker 1>like you're saying, or just like offer something slightly different,
<v Speaker 1>And that got a Saints Rose and handful of other things,
<v Speaker 1>and you know that last Saint Saints Row game just
<v Speaker 1>was completely lost in the woods. And I think after
<v Speaker 1>that everyone's like, well, if they can't figure it out,
<v Speaker 1>and they were sort of up there as like one
<v Speaker 1>of the accepted alternatives, who really stands a chance to
<v Speaker 1>make this work?
<v Speaker 5>And yeah, I mean so I look at Samson.
<v Speaker 1>It looks very generic, It looks very bland, and I
<v Speaker 1>think that might be some of the like the.
<v Speaker 5>Heart of its problem. But also that's.
<v Speaker 1>Kind of what people want from that genre. They want
<v Speaker 1>regular people doing weird things. And you know, it just
<v Speaker 1>sounds like it doesn't really offer up the fun that people.
<v Speaker 5>Are looking for.
<v Speaker 1>Let's let's hit this one really quick. I meant to
<v Speaker 1>add it to the rundown we talked about it beforehand.
<v Speaker 1>John Take two unexpectedly releases free Borderlands Mobile in quote
<v Speaker 1>soft launch format. This is from a let's see iXBT
<v Speaker 1>dot games. Take two Interactive has released Borderlands Mobile on
<v Speaker 1>iOS without prior announcements, advertising campaigns, or trailers. This is
<v Speaker 1>not a port of an existing installment, but a separate
<v Speaker 1>game originally developed.
<v Speaker 5>For smartphones by Zinga.
<v Speaker 1>This aligns with previous statements by Strauss Zelnik, who spoke
<v Speaker 1>about transferring Key Take two franchises to mobile platforms and
<v Speaker 1>emphasized that such projects should be created from scratch, taking
<v Speaker 1>into account the specifics of the device. Borderlands Mobile retains
<v Speaker 1>the visual style and basic gameplay formula of the series.
<v Speaker 1>Players are often offered a story campaign with main inside missions,
<v Speaker 1>loot collection, player character progression, and boss battles. All this
<v Speaker 1>is adapted for short sessions and the mobile format. The
<v Speaker 1>metaprogression involves developing a hubship, which wh unlocks new opportunities
<v Speaker 1>and rewards. According to information from Zinga's support pages. Only
<v Speaker 1>one class is available at the start the Summoner, while
<v Speaker 1>the remaining classes and customization elements are promised to be
<v Speaker 1>added later. And also the game is currently completely free,
<v Speaker 1>as there is no monetization in the current version. There's
<v Speaker 1>usually there's formally a battle pass, but only it's only
<v Speaker 1>available in a free version right now. The premium version,
<v Speaker 1>according to Zinga, will appear in future updates.
<v Speaker 5>So yeah, it's and soft launch.
<v Speaker 1>By that they mean yeah, they're not doing stuff like
<v Speaker 1>monetization yet, it's probably not available in full like every territory.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, this came out of nowhere. People seem to
<v Speaker 1>think it looks pretty good.
<v Speaker 5>What do you think?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I think it's an opportunity to kind of approach
<v Speaker 3>more people. Like Borderlands is definitely one of those big
<v Speaker 3>name franchises that has tried numerous times to kind of
<v Speaker 3>get its name out there to people who wouldn't normally
<v Speaker 3>play a Borderlands, be it a Tales of the Borderlands,
<v Speaker 3>be it a movie, or even just like a free
<v Speaker 3>to play game like this. I think that makes a
<v Speaker 3>whole lot of sense. It's a it's a franchise that
<v Speaker 3>Take two always talks about as being one of their
<v Speaker 3>bigger games. And even if FOD didn't hit as well
<v Speaker 3>as I think they wanted it to. I mean, it's
<v Speaker 3>still not even out on switch to and we don't
<v Speaker 3>even know the status on that. But yeah, I think
<v Speaker 3>this is good because it is using parts of existing
<v Speaker 3>games to you know, make an experience for people where
<v Speaker 3>maybe Borderlands wouldn't be something in their wheelhouse. Making it
<v Speaker 3>free to play is interesting. But yeah, I don't know
<v Speaker 3>one hundred percent know if this is for most Borderlands fans.
<v Speaker 3>I think it's kind of for a lot of other
<v Speaker 3>people to find the borderlines for the first time.
<v Speaker 5>Yeah, I'm sure that's a huge part of it.
<v Speaker 1>Like I always think the Borderlands like player base is
<v Speaker 1>this massive thing that is like doesn't necessarily fully overlap
<v Speaker 1>with the circles.
<v Speaker 5>I run in.
<v Speaker 1>It's like, no, that's a lot of normies are into that.
<v Speaker 1>A lot of people who are just like, they'll get
<v Speaker 1>a couple of games a year. They're going to get
<v Speaker 1>Call of Duty, they're going to get a like a
<v Speaker 1>basketball game or a football game or a soccer.
<v Speaker 5>Game, and then they're going to get border Lands.
<v Speaker 1>Like that's one of those games that everyone just gets
<v Speaker 1>and it's I wonder if, like the thinking here is, Hey,
<v Speaker 1>for that last Borderlands game, what we saw is there's
<v Speaker 1>a lot of people who want to come back to Borderlands,
<v Speaker 1>but they're just too busy. Their lives are taking them
<v Speaker 1>away from places where they can play that game. Can
<v Speaker 1>we just bring the game to them on their phone?
<v Speaker 1>So I think they're hoping to recapture some people who
<v Speaker 1>feel like they might have busied out, they've aged out
<v Speaker 1>in terms of just being too busy to play some
<v Speaker 1>of these games, and they could still get them on
<v Speaker 1>their phone.
<v Speaker 5>I bet that's a big part of it. I mean
<v Speaker 5>this is a take two strategy.
<v Speaker 1>I mean that the story here talks about Straszelnik saying
<v Speaker 1>that this is something they want to do more of.
<v Speaker 1>Does that mean they get around to doing this with
<v Speaker 1>I guess what next?
<v Speaker 5>Grand Theft Auto? What else could they do this with?
<v Speaker 4>Yeah? Take two?
<v Speaker 5>Right? So I games?
<v Speaker 1>But I mean Civilization is already on mobile as like
<v Speaker 1>it's full fledged version, so people just play that.
<v Speaker 5>Yeah?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I'm not even like one hundred percent one hundred
<v Speaker 3>percent sure, because when I think of them, I'm like,
<v Speaker 3>did you make a mafia game like work?
<v Speaker 5>There?
<v Speaker 4>I that's the that's the biggest game to me.
<v Speaker 3>Besides like obviously like a Rockstar game that would like
<v Speaker 3>kind of it could work in a sense of like
<v Speaker 3>bringing people in. But I'm not one hundred percent short,
<v Speaker 3>like I think a Borderlands has definitely an easier gameplay
<v Speaker 3>loupe to gamify for a mobile audience than you know,
<v Speaker 3>like a Mafia, which is more story driven in I.
<v Speaker 1>Mean, Mafia would just be an adaptation of those existing
<v Speaker 1>mobile games where you play as a mobster, right and it's.
<v Speaker 5>Like I'm a level ninety nine criminal and I'm the boss. Uh,
<v Speaker 5>like those ads you see.
<v Speaker 1>I could see them doing something like that, but that
<v Speaker 1>would be far less exciting than this seems to be
<v Speaker 1>where which is trying to fully adapt the Borderlands experience,
<v Speaker 1>that's pretty wild.
<v Speaker 3>Maybe a mafia like business management sim and trying to
<v Speaker 3>figure out how to avoid, you know, the cops, like
<v Speaker 3>catching on some money laundering or something. I think that
<v Speaker 3>could be kind of fun. But again, that's not like
<v Speaker 3>we have assets. Let's put it into a new package
<v Speaker 3>and release it on the App Store for free. So yeah,
<v Speaker 3>it's gonna be curious to see how that goes.
<v Speaker 1>All right, let's see you let's hit this next one.
<v Speaker 1>Halo Campaign Evolved release dates seemingly leaked by Data Minor
<v Speaker 1>and cryptic math problem. This is from Chris Compendio at GameSpot,
<v Speaker 1>a noted Halo Data Minor appears to have hinted at
<v Speaker 1>when Halo Campaign.
<v Speaker 5>Evolved will release.
<v Speaker 1>You just have to do some math to figure out
<v Speaker 1>what this leaker is claiming. Halofan account grunt dot Api
<v Speaker 1>shared a couple of math equations spotted by Insider Gaming
<v Speaker 1>that people seem to believe contain the launch dates of
<v Speaker 1>the upcoming Halo Combat Evolved remake.
<v Speaker 5>I'm not gonna read these equations.
<v Speaker 1>You can go find them for yourselves if you want,
<v Speaker 1>But so I'm gonna jump to that if you in
<v Speaker 1>case you're own willing to do the arithmetic yourself. These
<v Speaker 1>equations suggest that Campaign Involved will release in an Early
<v Speaker 1>Access stage or the EA in the equation, on July
<v Speaker 1>twenty third, before an official release.
<v Speaker 5>On July twenty eighth.
<v Speaker 1>So it's going to have that early access period where
<v Speaker 1>you pay a little a little bit extra, you get
<v Speaker 1>it for five extra days.
<v Speaker 5>The game is coming in July.
<v Speaker 1>Presumably the early access period would be for those who
<v Speaker 1>purchased the special edition as it right as they say here,
<v Speaker 1>Yeah that sounds right, you know it's it's a league
<v Speaker 1>from a data minor. But I tend to believe it
<v Speaker 1>because this lines up with what we've heard. I think, right,
<v Speaker 1>this game is going to come in the summer, and
<v Speaker 1>you know, Grand Theft Auto six is still supposed.
<v Speaker 5>To come out this fall.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, while Microsoft has forts the Horizon six, which
<v Speaker 1>were saying, is that out in May?
<v Speaker 5>Man, that's crazy. If that's that's uh, you know.
<v Speaker 3>Very shortly there is just like a big preview event
<v Speaker 3>like the other day, right.
<v Speaker 1>Right, Okay, so like that's in May, this is in July.
<v Speaker 1>They have fabled them. They have Call of Duty obviously,
<v Speaker 1>but the Call of Duty will just come out when
<v Speaker 1>Calloty comes out.
<v Speaker 5>They'll just have to deal with Grand Theft Auto being there.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, it'll probably come out in October instead, but
<v Speaker 1>a fable I've heard it was internally delayed, but I
<v Speaker 1>mean it's still supposed to come out this year, but
<v Speaker 1>that probably means December. So if they have any other games,
<v Speaker 1>they're probably trying to stack them up as early as
<v Speaker 1>they can so they have a plenty of window of
<v Speaker 1>opportunity to succeed before Grand Theft Auto comes out. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>do you think that people are are getting appropriately excited
<v Speaker 1>for Halo Campaign Evolved? How are you feeling about this rollout,
<v Speaker 1>the return going to PlayStation.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I mean, like in terms of, like the expectations
<v Speaker 3>of like another Halo one remake do in numbers, I
<v Speaker 3>think it's hitting those numbers by but that by that,
<v Speaker 3>I mean like it is kind of a muted thing.
<v Speaker 4>It's there.
<v Speaker 3>I love the first Halo game, specifically Halo Wanted two,
<v Speaker 3>just like big childhood multiplayer games for me. But you
<v Speaker 3>know it, it's interesting that it is hitting PlayStation. I
<v Speaker 3>like that it's a multi platform, it is just muted
<v Speaker 3>by the lack of multiplayer. Like I do consider like
<v Speaker 3>Halo a summer game, Like I remember going to all
<v Speaker 3>over the country and just my friends were all playing
<v Speaker 3>Halo back then, and it was just a summer of
<v Speaker 3>road trips in meeting up with friends. So yeah, I
<v Speaker 3>think I am reasonably excited to get back into Halo
<v Speaker 3>to see what they do change about the campaign at
<v Speaker 3>the first one, see what's new there, And I do
<v Speaker 3>think it'll probably do pretty well on a PlayStation console,
<v Speaker 3>just for the novelty of having a Microsoft logo on
<v Speaker 3>a PlayStation, five box or what have you.
<v Speaker 5>I don't know.
<v Speaker 3>I don't really know what my expectations for this performing
<v Speaker 3>are because you know, I don't think it's the make
<v Speaker 3>or break game for Halo Studios. I think it's great
<v Speaker 3>that they are using it as a test bed for
<v Speaker 3>Unreal Engine five, But yeah, I can't say I would
<v Speaker 3>see this doing the numbers of whatever the next big
<v Speaker 3>Halo game or even standalone multiplayer game would be. I
<v Speaker 3>think it's going to hit for the people who haven't
<v Speaker 3>hit like played this game before, the people who have
<v Speaker 3>played it a hundred times, like a snowbike mic or whatever.
<v Speaker 3>And then yeah, I'll just kind of have been out
<v Speaker 3>for a couple of months and you realize that Yep.
<v Speaker 5>Yeah, I think I think you're right.
<v Speaker 1>I Uh, I'm like definitely curious just to see what
<v Speaker 1>they're doing to make this thing feel improved.
<v Speaker 5>You know, they've remastered it before. What does this look like?
<v Speaker 1>You know, the fact that is single player only obviously
<v Speaker 1>obviously is going to limit it limit its appeal to
<v Speaker 1>a lot of people. But yeah, it's it's Halo on PlayStation.
<v Speaker 1>That alone is very interesting and curious and uh, I
<v Speaker 1>think you're right that a lot of people on PlayStation
<v Speaker 1>are just going to show up for this first one
<v Speaker 1>at least just to be like, yeah, I've I've always
<v Speaker 1>heard about Halo, or it's just weird to play this
<v Speaker 1>on here, so I want to be a part of that.
<v Speaker 5>I think it'll do just fine.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I bought Lego Horizon on switch just because it's
<v Speaker 3>funny to have a PlayStation studio's logo on a switchbox,
<v Speaker 3>Like that's that's silly, that's funny exactly.
<v Speaker 5>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, do you think grand the Thought of six
<v Speaker 1>is gonna come out when, like in November, on that
<v Speaker 1>date when it's supposed to come out? Now, like all
<v Speaker 1>these companies are obviously continuing to make they're releasing timing
<v Speaker 1>decisions based on that expectation, And it does feel to
<v Speaker 1>me now like enough of these bigger companies are solidifying
<v Speaker 1>their dates to the point where they must think it's
<v Speaker 1>really coming out.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, Like in my in my mind, I feel like
<v Speaker 3>it's still probably will get delayed at the last minute,
<v Speaker 3>but with kind of like the shockwave of when the
<v Speaker 3>take to president or CEO was talking about the AI
<v Speaker 3>not being able to place that stuff I think they
<v Speaker 3>do have are a little bit scared of what happens
<v Speaker 3>if they do not release that game, because they'll be
<v Speaker 3>kind of like broader questions and topics from shareholders they'll
<v Speaker 3>need to address. So I'm hoping it doesn't release in
<v Speaker 3>a rush state. But like if I was putting money
<v Speaker 3>on it, I still would be a little.
<v Speaker 4>Hesitant to be like, yeah, it's coming out this year.
<v Speaker 5>I don't know.
<v Speaker 3>It's a lot of people like you guys just talking
<v Speaker 3>about yeah, I think it actually could land. That is
<v Speaker 3>making me double check, double guess that, But I don't know.
<v Speaker 3>I still think there's a good chance it gets delayed,
<v Speaker 3>if by like a couple of weeks.
<v Speaker 1>Even yeah, people try to point out like the advertising
<v Speaker 1>campaign is apparently supposed to start to start in earnest
<v Speaker 1>in about three weeks, so it's like, if they're going
<v Speaker 1>to make that decision, they might make it soon. Although
<v Speaker 1>you know, if they delay it like a month or
<v Speaker 1>something like that, maybe that wouldn't affect them all that much.
<v Speaker 1>I'll tell you what, No matter what happens this launch,
<v Speaker 1>I think it's going to be a mess for whatever
<v Speaker 1>the online side of things is. I think it's going
<v Speaker 1>to launch in some sort of state, and it's going
<v Speaker 1>to be a state that people are like, Yeah, I
<v Speaker 1>either I'm mad about how it transfers my stuff from
<v Speaker 1>the first game. I'm mad that it doesn't transfer any
<v Speaker 1>my life from the first online. I'm mad that it's
<v Speaker 1>just an updated version of the first online. We still
<v Speaker 1>don't really know. They have to start talking about that
<v Speaker 1>stuff here pretty soon.
<v Speaker 4>Is it even launching with online? Is that like said that?
<v Speaker 5>You know, Yeah, I haven't said that. Yeah, exactly. Good point.
<v Speaker 1>It's like there's every reason to just say right now,
<v Speaker 1>maybe it doesn't do that cause they haven't mentioned it once. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>it's just it took like what six months for GTA
<v Speaker 1>five Online. Yeah, it'll probably probably be something like that. Okay,
<v Speaker 1>it's it's gonna be interesting year and a half of
<v Speaker 1>GTA six launching over and over again as it happens.
<v Speaker 1>GT Online happens, and then it goes to PC and
<v Speaker 1>then it goes on to the next gen consoles. At
<v Speaker 1>that point, yikes, it's gonna be gonna be weird. All right,
<v Speaker 1>let's go aheat and take a break. When we come back,
<v Speaker 1>plenty of more headlines to get into it. Actually, a
<v Speaker 1>ton of just Nintendo News. I actually get left off
<v Speaker 1>some stories because there were so many things out of Nintendo.
<v Speaker 1>We'll get into all of that right after this. If
<v Speaker 1>you want to skip out on these, you could do so.
<v Speaker 1>Johnbom dot com slash join become a premium member. After
<v Speaker 1>versions of the audio video show, we will be right back.
<v Speaker 1>We are back. It's Game Mess Mornings. That's John Martin.
<v Speaker 1>I'm Jeff Grubb. Let's get into this Nintendo block with
<v Speaker 1>Pokemon Champions launches to mixed reception as performance woes and
<v Speaker 1>competitive changes turn some away. This is from Connor mccarr
<v Speaker 1>at Eurogamer. Pokemon Champions has been released, a battling focused
<v Speaker 1>competitive game hoping to capture the hearts of the series's
<v Speaker 1>dedicated players. However, some performance limitations and gameplay choices have
<v Speaker 1>a slice of the community feeling disappointed. Performance woes include
<v Speaker 1>being locked to thirty frames per second on the Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>Switch and switch to plus some burdensome navigation across in
<v Speaker 1>game menus. Pokemon leaker centro Leaks complained about the game
<v Speaker 1>having slow, clunky menus, while Angelico on Twitter dubbed the
<v Speaker 1>game's performance as pathetic.
<v Speaker 5>Aside from the performance problems.
<v Speaker 1>The game enforced some changes to the typical Pokemon game format,
<v Speaker 1>most notably a hard stance on the Pokemon Video Game
<v Speaker 1>Championship format VGC, where teams of six Pokemon are taken
<v Speaker 1>into a doubles match and only four of them are
<v Speaker 1>actually used in battles. This while the standard, while the
<v Speaker 1>standard in official Pokemon events is far from the full
<v Speaker 1>six Pokemon singles format. Many players prefer Afro sends You
<v Speaker 1>on Twitter summarize their feelings as such, I really liked
<v Speaker 1>Pokemon Champions until I found out you can't six v six.
<v Speaker 1>This game honestly just feels like a fleshed out beta,
<v Speaker 1>and then that these batter ules cannot be changed either
<v Speaker 1>even in private matches against friends, another sticking point for
<v Speaker 1>some fans. There's other things happening here. I think the
<v Speaker 1>general consensus John that I've heard is this game feels
<v Speaker 1>like it came out really early and really rushed, and
<v Speaker 1>it needs a lot of work.
<v Speaker 5>What do you think?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I think there's a reason why it was a
<v Speaker 3>stagger release and it wasn't on mobile, where I think
<v Speaker 3>a lot of people are going to be trying this
<v Speaker 3>game without really understanding what it's going to be Yeah,
<v Speaker 3>there's a yeah, there's a lot to dig in with
<v Speaker 3>this story, especially someone who really likes playing competitive Pokemon.
<v Speaker 3>But yeah, I think just overall, there is a lack
<v Speaker 3>of quality. I don't want to think that the Pokemon
<v Speaker 3>Company was like it played Scarlet and Violet at launch
<v Speaker 3>and they're used to just like Buggy, bad performance, but
<v Speaker 3>it's not showing a good light. I yeah, for me personally,
<v Speaker 3>I did try it out yesterday. I thought it was
<v Speaker 3>snappy in a sense that like Scarlet and Violet online,
<v Speaker 3>the competitive mode does have some performance issues. It can
<v Speaker 3>just hang for a little bit, like just rotating the
<v Speaker 3>camera around Pokemon. I thought things were pretty snappy, which
<v Speaker 3>is good for the competitive sense, but yet not for
<v Speaker 3>the casual sense, like like like, like I said, I
<v Speaker 3>was literally doing a a friendly Pokemon tournament this past
<v Speaker 3>weekend and it was six y six because that's you know,
<v Speaker 3>that's that's the format. You're you're hanging out with six
<v Speaker 3>of you your best buds, making the best possible team
<v Speaker 3>to counter stuff. And I get a lot of the
<v Speaker 3>mind games come from the fact that you're you know
<v Speaker 3>what the options are, but the options are limited by
<v Speaker 3>your knowledge of what's going to happen. So if you
<v Speaker 3>know it's going to be a six v six you
<v Speaker 3>already kind of know what to expect in a four
<v Speaker 3>v four or three v three situation. If it singles, yeah,
<v Speaker 3>that doesn't fly as much. But yeah, and the lack
<v Speaker 3>of Pokemon there, I think it's like only like one
<v Speaker 3>hundred and eighty something as opposed to like I don't know,
<v Speaker 3>like I don't even know how many final stage evolutions
<v Speaker 3>there are because there's so many freaking Pokemon now, and
<v Speaker 3>I think that's okay in a vacuum. Like in competitive
<v Speaker 3>there rarely are like fifty or sixty different Pokemon that
<v Speaker 3>have like viable move sets and can work in some
<v Speaker 3>kind of team. But yeah, the lack of item I
<v Speaker 3>think is just roll out and not having a lot
<v Speaker 3>of different Pokemon available at launch, especially when you're touting
<v Speaker 3>Pokemon Home compatibility, is just kind of dumb. I think
<v Speaker 3>there's like a statement that they were trying to fix
<v Speaker 3>a lot of these things, not specifically about like sixty
<v Speaker 3>six more casual modes, but yeah, it is they were
<v Speaker 3>positioning it as the like competitive platform of the future,
<v Speaker 3>and yeah, it definitely feels like it is competitive. First
<v Speaker 3>and not really thinking about on rolling the average player
<v Speaker 3>because those tutorials are kind of laughable. It doesn't really
<v Speaker 3>give you a whole lot to do at all. There's
<v Speaker 3>no like simulation circumstances to teach you about this stuff.
<v Speaker 3>It's kind of just like laying laying like information on you.
<v Speaker 5>But yeah, yeah, for.
<v Speaker 1>Our stream yesterday, Jan and Sean seemed to come away
<v Speaker 1>pretty pleased. Jan, is that a case of you being
<v Speaker 1>able just to see the potential and it's doing what
<v Speaker 1>you need out of the gate and you kind of
<v Speaker 1>understood what this thing was going to be or what
<v Speaker 1>or did you have some problems with it?
<v Speaker 2>There's some light problems like John mentioned some Pokemon not
<v Speaker 2>being available, but overall, I'm having fun throwing people into
<v Speaker 2>the dumpster.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, that's it's enabling toxy Gan to run free, right,
<v Speaker 1>That's that's what's happening.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, unfortunately, no one is safe.
<v Speaker 5>All right. I love that. That's that's very important to get.
<v Speaker 1>In when you fit in everybody. Okay, so do you
<v Speaker 1>guys that you guys think that they are going to
<v Speaker 1>be able to get this thing shaped up?
<v Speaker 5>Like there, it's like it's not hopeless, right, We're not.
<v Speaker 5>We're not looking at it.
<v Speaker 1>Just is they rushed it out because they have that
<v Speaker 1>I r L competition happening in a few months, right,
<v Speaker 1>so they were trying to get this out there some
<v Speaker 1>people can practice.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I yeah, there's so much runway for this game
<v Speaker 2>to improve over the next couple weeks months. It's not
<v Speaker 2>going to be This isn't end all be all gang.
<v Speaker 5>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I hope they just update like as the mobile version
<v Speaker 1>comes out. Of hope at that moment they just have
<v Speaker 1>a switch to specific version that runs great.
<v Speaker 5>And if the switch one version continues to run like
<v Speaker 5>dog shit, that's a shame.
<v Speaker 1>But I mean at this point that system is very old,
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, I think a game like this probably should
<v Speaker 1>run fine on that.
<v Speaker 5>But it's game freak. So here we go. That's kind
<v Speaker 5>of what we should.
<v Speaker 1>Expect at this point, all right, So there is no
<v Speaker 1>chance that like this is going I guess I should
<v Speaker 1>So there's no chance. It seems like this is not
<v Speaker 1>going to be a catastrophe for their VGC competition. When
<v Speaker 1>that does happen, though, right, people are going to be
<v Speaker 1>able to get used to it and it should mostly
<v Speaker 1>be fine.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, Yeah, I think I think it'll be fine by then.
<v Speaker 3>It's just kind of like, what do they want that
<v Speaker 3>meta game to look like? Like, are they going to
<v Speaker 3>add more options or is it going to be just
<v Speaker 3>like these Pokemon for the next couple of months. And
<v Speaker 3>if so, we'll see if there's like some super toxic stuff.
<v Speaker 3>But we're kind of just seeing a lot of what
<v Speaker 3>has already been kind of established in like Scarlet and
<v Speaker 3>Violet's like metagame.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, very good, All right, let's stick with the Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>news here.
<v Speaker 5>Rhythm Heaven Groove out in early July.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Imron Cohn over at restart dot Run
<v Speaker 1>shouts out to Mron.
<v Speaker 5>Ubb a dub a dub that true, the reports are accurate.
<v Speaker 1>Rhythm Heaven Groove is indeed coming, is indeed launching on
<v Speaker 1>the Switch in just under three months on July second,
<v Speaker 1>twenty twenty six.
<v Speaker 5>Man, now that's gonna be stuck in my head.
<v Speaker 3>Well, I feel sorry for people who don't get that.
<v Speaker 3>Everyone needs to understand that. Please, dear guy.
<v Speaker 5>Go I mean, like, yeah, you know what.
<v Speaker 1>It drives me a little crazy right now, John, is
<v Speaker 1>there's this thing on social where people will be like,
<v Speaker 1>all right, go ahead and like whip your hand at
<v Speaker 1>the screen or do a fist pump, and then it'll
<v Speaker 1>be like a bunch of like small vignettes of things
<v Speaker 1>that happen as you're like slamming your hand down, like
<v Speaker 1>chopping a fish or something like that.
<v Speaker 5>This is just Rhythm Heaven without the game.
<v Speaker 1>You people have been missing now you could have been
<v Speaker 1>having this fun your entire lives.
<v Speaker 5>Anyway.
<v Speaker 1>The game's coming July second, twenty twenty six. This is
<v Speaker 1>a Switch one game. It'll work on Switch to that's
<v Speaker 1>pretty soon. They got a trailer that went up on
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo today as well as Twitter, the Nintendo Today app today,
<v Speaker 1>and then yeah, it continues to look very good. I'm
<v Speaker 1>a huge, huge Rhythm Heaven fan. Loved it since they
<v Speaker 1>first started bringing it here, which I think is with
<v Speaker 1>the DS version, and me and my wife played the
<v Speaker 1>hell out of it. She like basically one of that game,
<v Speaker 1>and I'm ready to do the same on the Switch.
<v Speaker 1>I'm glad Rhythm Heaven is still happening.
<v Speaker 5>John same here.
<v Speaker 3>It's one of those franchises that it like has taken
<v Speaker 3>a while to actually get a new entry and forever.
<v Speaker 3>That was always my hope with The Warrior, where a
<v Speaker 3>game's still coming out. Is that like, okay, so silly
<v Speaker 3>Nintendo is like still able to come and then Tomodacci
<v Speaker 3>and this happening in the same year is kind of
<v Speaker 3>a dream come true for like three DS fans like myself. Yeah,
<v Speaker 3>this is great. Two important things the switch one version.
<v Speaker 3>It's so it's switched one, no switch to version. But
<v Speaker 3>it is coming out physically in America, which was a
<v Speaker 3>big question mark for me. Is it gonna be a
<v Speaker 3>digital only thing like Megamix was on three DS, and yeah,
<v Speaker 3>only forty dollars is the big thing.
<v Speaker 4>I think this is gonna be.
<v Speaker 3>That's the best possible way for a game like this
<v Speaker 3>to succeed because it's it's gonna be like what like
<v Speaker 3>fifty I think like fifty Mini Games is like kind
<v Speaker 3>of the standard for these games.
<v Speaker 4>But there it's just some of the most.
<v Speaker 3>Charming, most pure fun you can kind of have with
<v Speaker 3>the video game. It's one of those things that like
<v Speaker 3>my grandparents my cousins who have never played it, were
<v Speaker 3>are playing Rhythm Heaven Fever on the Wii and it
<v Speaker 3>was just I don't know, everything was good back then.
<v Speaker 3>So I'm glad we have some some hope and things
<v Speaker 3>to look forward to for us for US Rhythm Heaven fans.
<v Speaker 1>Do you do you get the sense that this is
<v Speaker 1>gonna be a lot of new mini games or or
<v Speaker 1>do you feel like it could be more of a collection?
<v Speaker 1>I mean, because the last one they did was a collection, right,
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, this will probably gonna be a lot of
<v Speaker 1>new stuff.
<v Speaker 4>It looks like a lot of new stuff.
<v Speaker 3>I've personally trying to like stay away to Like, I
<v Speaker 3>think I watched that initial trailer like many times, but
<v Speaker 3>I think most of those are at most reusing characters
<v Speaker 3>rather than they are bringing back mini games. So has
<v Speaker 3>me hopeful there's gonna be a lot of that, But
<v Speaker 3>I also think we've been so far removed. I wouldn't
<v Speaker 3>be mad if they just put twenty of the old
<v Speaker 3>games in there, just kind of as a bonus, or
<v Speaker 3>like one of those a couple of those endless games.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, yeah, that would be fantastic. And you know the
<v Speaker 1>fact that this is a switch one game, I hope
<v Speaker 1>it runs well on there and a lot of people
<v Speaker 1>just pick it up if they're still feeling like I'm
<v Speaker 1>not ready for a switch too. This is an ideal
<v Speaker 1>end of life game for a console like that, and
<v Speaker 1>I know a lot of times people don't pick up
<v Speaker 1>games that in that window, but this one's gonna work
<v Speaker 1>on your switch too if you eventually get that.
<v Speaker 5>So please buy Rhythm Heaven is what I'm say saying.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, I love that franchise and just wanted to come
<v Speaker 1>back over and over and over again.
<v Speaker 5>Please All right, let's see here.
<v Speaker 1>Leakers says new Luigi's Mansion game could yeah, could currently
<v Speaker 1>or is currently in development alongside accompanying Ambo.
<v Speaker 5>This is from my Nintendo News.
<v Speaker 1>This rumor comes from special Nick, who will point out
<v Speaker 1>has been very good on Nintendo rumors right now, although
<v Speaker 1>My Nintendo News says who, it must be said, isn't
<v Speaker 1>the most reliable leaker of the current bunch, has said
<v Speaker 1>that Nintendo is currently working hard at developing a new
<v Speaker 1>entry in the beloved Luigi's Mansion series for the Switch to.
<v Speaker 1>He also went on to say that Nintendo's planning a
<v Speaker 1>new Luigi's Mansion Ambo to a company the unannounced games release.
<v Speaker 1>He earlier said that Nintendo is pitching a Luigi's Mansion
<v Speaker 1>animated movie, but he didn't elaborate anymore on that. Yeah, look,
<v Speaker 1>I think that so that's next level, right? Who does
<v Speaker 1>the Luigi's Mansion games. Their last game was the soccer
<v Speaker 1>game Strike Strikers. Before that, they did Each's Mansion three,
<v Speaker 1>which was a huge, huge success. So coming out of that,
<v Speaker 1>we were all going, obviously, they're going to make another
<v Speaker 1>Luigi's Mansion game eventually, but Nintendo, for a series like that,
<v Speaker 1>likes to do one per console.
<v Speaker 5>I think that the timing.
<v Speaker 1>Works out that they would be looking at next level
<v Speaker 1>and saying, hey, let's get a Luigi's Mansion game ready
<v Speaker 1>for the early parts of the switch to I think
<v Speaker 1>that this is one of those games that could still
<v Speaker 1>launch this year, John, and if not, definitely by next year.
<v Speaker 3>What do you think, Yeah, I think I honestly think
<v Speaker 3>we were probably more likely to see a Luigi's Mansion
<v Speaker 3>before the three D Mario Personally, I think this is
<v Speaker 3>a no brainer.
<v Speaker 5>I was.
<v Speaker 3>It still kind of surprises me how well Luigi's Mansion
<v Speaker 3>three did, Like it really did elevate it from like
<v Speaker 3>like I always loved the original Luigi's Mansion, but it
<v Speaker 3>that three brought it to like the mainstream, like that
<v Speaker 3>is an a tier franchise for them now, to the
<v Speaker 3>point where like they're referencing it in the Mario movie
<v Speaker 3>all the time. I'm like the current theme park rumors
<v Speaker 3>are there might be a Luigi's Mansion attraction at Universal
<v Speaker 3>Florida or whatever. Luigi's Mansion is getting a good push.
<v Speaker 3>I think all franchises this is a this is a
<v Speaker 3>really good fun one because as some of the best animation,
<v Speaker 3>and you can do so much with just a haunted
<v Speaker 3>mansion kind of vibe. Uh, it's it's it's wonderful, it's
<v Speaker 3>so delightful.
<v Speaker 4>What do you think that amibo would be?
<v Speaker 3>Because I would love a like squishy Guigi. Yeah, yes, well, yeah,
<v Speaker 3>we got Yeah, that's the question.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I don't know if he died, yeah, if it's
<v Speaker 1>like he always felt like one of those side characters.
<v Speaker 1>It's like he showed up in that game. I don't
<v Speaker 1>know if he's like part of the gang now, but
<v Speaker 1>I hope he is. I definitely want that Luigi's Mansion ambo.
<v Speaker 1>Has there been any Luigi's Mansion ambo so far? There
<v Speaker 1>was he was like, okay, he was scared and that
<v Speaker 1>was for Luigi's Man is that way back? For Luigi's
<v Speaker 1>Mansion two? Okay, this is in Japan Luigian Mansion two
<v Speaker 1>for the three ds. Yeah, that okay, fair enough. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>that's so they've done a little bit of that before,
<v Speaker 1>and that was just Luigi's sort of doing his animated
<v Speaker 1>I'm scared face where he's holding his face like Macaulay Culkin.
<v Speaker 1>I think they'll they'll give him one where he's got
<v Speaker 1>the what's the vacuum called the busters but the buster
<v Speaker 1>bus loose the polter Gust.
<v Speaker 5>Yes, thank you. Yeah, they'll probably give him that and charge.
<v Speaker 1>A little bit extra. So that seems to be their
<v Speaker 1>their strategy these days.
<v Speaker 5>Yeah. I like Luigi's Mansion a lot.
<v Speaker 1>I do think that it's the kind of thing where
<v Speaker 1>they can really amp things up because Luigi's Mansion three
<v Speaker 1>did so well that you can kind of let next
<v Speaker 1>level say, hey, you can spend a little bit more money,
<v Speaker 1>take a little bit more time, really you know, uh,
<v Speaker 1>you know, exercise your strengths on animation and make those
<v Speaker 1>the best we've ever seen, and then maybe do a
<v Speaker 1>little bit of extra stuff because they have to be
<v Speaker 1>expecting that this game is going to so very well
<v Speaker 1>that last one fifteen plus million copies sold or something
<v Speaker 1>like that, and that's the reason, that's the reason they
<v Speaker 1>don't do these follow up sequels very soon afterward, because
<v Speaker 1>they could just let Luigi's Mansion three continue to sell
<v Speaker 1>throughout the entire Switch life cycle, and now they're setting
<v Speaker 1>up this game to do that again for the Switch
<v Speaker 1>to So yeah, I think we probably hear about this
<v Speaker 1>game in a direct like the next big direct, and
<v Speaker 1>then they talk about the amebo then and then and
<v Speaker 1>then the game is out for Halloween and again that
<v Speaker 1>I don't know that, but it's like that would be
<v Speaker 1>my hope and expectation at this point, and I think
<v Speaker 1>that would set up Nintendo for a really strong first
<v Speaker 1>year if we're talking about Star Fox and then the
<v Speaker 1>Cell to Operant of Time remake, and then we get
<v Speaker 1>Luigi's Mansion four and then hopefully a couple I mean,
<v Speaker 1>you know, Rhythm Heaven and Tomadacci Life on top of that,
<v Speaker 1>you know Switch one games.
<v Speaker 5>That's a pretty good year, right.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, there's It's it's kind of funny.
<v Speaker 3>I remember us talking like earlier this year, like there's
<v Speaker 3>not really a lot on the radar. We have like
<v Speaker 3>Splittoon and fire Emblem, and now it's just like, oh,
<v Speaker 3>and now all the games are coming like it's gonna forgot.
<v Speaker 3>It's looking like they actually do you have a really
<v Speaker 3>really big year? And Dusk Blood's like it's it's kind
<v Speaker 3>of nuts. How much of a Nintendo year? This is
<v Speaker 3>turning from the turnaround of the launching of the switch
<v Speaker 3>to yeah, Nintendo just plays their cards, right. We always
<v Speaker 3>talk about like them stockpiling games and like having games
<v Speaker 3>set aside, but yeah, when when they have a cadence,
<v Speaker 3>they hit it hard, it's nuts.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean, and it does feel like that. Just
<v Speaker 1>I mean, like a news day like this where it's
<v Speaker 1>like one Nintendo story after another, and some of them are,
<v Speaker 1>you know, directly from Nintendo, like like the stuff from
<v Speaker 1>the Nintendo Today app where they talk about Rhythm Heaven
<v Speaker 1>Groove and some of it's from leakers, but there's stuff
<v Speaker 1>worth weaking, so that's why that happens. And then we
<v Speaker 1>have like pricing information, which is not exciting, but I
<v Speaker 1>also maybe what we should be expecting. Amazon lists elden
<v Speaker 1>Ring Tarnished Edition for eighty dollars. Also it's a game
<v Speaker 1>key card, so that's really going to be annoying to
<v Speaker 1>some people. This is from my Nintendo News. It would
<v Speaker 1>seem as though the release date for elden Ring Tarnished
<v Speaker 1>Edition on the switch to is drawing closer, as Amazon
<v Speaker 1>has produced a listing for the game. The action packed
<v Speaker 1>title is listed for eighty dollars and will be a
<v Speaker 1>game key card. The higher price is because it features
<v Speaker 1>the base game and Shadow of the Er Tree expansion.
<v Speaker 1>We still don't have a firm release date for the game,
<v Speaker 1>but all should be revealed soon. So my understanding is
<v Speaker 1>it's the same price as if you bought Elder Ring
<v Speaker 1>and Shadow of the Er Tree on other platforms, the
<v Speaker 1>one difference being you can buy Elder Ring without Shadow
<v Speaker 1>of the Er Tree on other platforms, so you don't
<v Speaker 1>have to spend eighty dollars out of the gate if
<v Speaker 1>you don't want to, if you want to see if
<v Speaker 1>you like the game.
<v Speaker 5>That's frustrating, obviously.
<v Speaker 1>The bigger frustration for a lot of people is going
<v Speaker 1>to be eighty dollars for a game key card. It's
<v Speaker 1>gonna be a non starter for a lot of people.
<v Speaker 1>I think I'm not too surprised by that, but it's like,
<v Speaker 1>I bet they could have fit that game on a
<v Speaker 1>sixty four gigabyte thing, but maybe not with Shadow of
<v Speaker 1>the ar Tree.
<v Speaker 5>Maybe maybe not.
<v Speaker 1>Actually, eighty dollars for this elden Ring on Switch to
<v Speaker 1>They sounds like they got performance all fixed up.
<v Speaker 5>How are you feeling about this?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I mean it's a game that like kind of
<v Speaker 3>is a natural fit for the Switch too. It does
<v Speaker 3>really feel like it was kind of coming out of
<v Speaker 3>that breath of the wild kind of spirit. So having
<v Speaker 3>being able to take that game on the go will
<v Speaker 3>be and currently is like a really good way to
<v Speaker 3>play that game. Like I I think ninety percent of
<v Speaker 3>my playtime was just on Steam Deck, just playing through
<v Speaker 3>that game, like switching between that and my computer. It
<v Speaker 3>was just like gorgeous ran well forty frames.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, it's it.
<v Speaker 3>It hits a little hollow when it is a game
<v Speaker 3>key card, like I know, the only the fact that
<v Speaker 3>Cyberpunk was able to get that and the Night City
<v Speaker 3>expansion or the Edge.
<v Speaker 1>Runners Liberty Liberty Yeah, I can't remember what it's called either.
<v Speaker 1>What you mean the Idris Elba expansion, Yeah, exactly, Yes,
<v Speaker 1>the Elder Cut, the Phantom Liberty. Yes, I knew Liberty
<v Speaker 1>was in there somewhere. Liberty Cities, Liberty City Stories yeah yeah, yeah, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I mean that was kind of just like a crazy
<v Speaker 1>like yeah, no, it's just all here it's all working,
<v Speaker 1>some of it to lesser degrees.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know how Shadow of the Ur Tree would
<v Speaker 3>actually perform here. I think it ran a little bit
<v Speaker 3>easier for me. I don't remember, it's been forever, but me. Yeah, man, sure, yeah,
<v Speaker 3>eighty dollars is a little whack when I mean my
<v Speaker 3>other comparison of being like, well, the Final Fantasy seven
<v Speaker 3>remake games are both launching for like fifty dollars, including Rebirth,
<v Speaker 3>which is like that's now the new main price, So
<v Speaker 3>this game coming out around the same time as that,
<v Speaker 3>It's just like, eighty dollars is a lot. I didn't
<v Speaker 3>even think when this game was announced that the Tarnish
<v Speaker 3>you wouldn't be able to buy the base game apart
<v Speaker 3>from the Tarnished Edition. That's something I wasn't even considering
<v Speaker 3>because I just it was like, oh, I could buy
<v Speaker 3>it with the expansion pack, but for people who just
<v Speaker 3>want the base game haven't played it. Yeah, that's that's
<v Speaker 3>kind of vs. That's that's dumb man.
<v Speaker 5>Okay.
<v Speaker 1>So wait, yeah, someone's pointing, like on Steam right now,
<v Speaker 1>elden ring. Okay, yes, okay, here we go, now we
<v Speaker 1>got it. Okay, I gotta figure out, So elder Ring
<v Speaker 1>is sixty dollars. Then if you want the Shadow of
<v Speaker 1>the ur Tree expansion, that's forty dollars separately. Now you
<v Speaker 1>can get elder Ring Shadow the Ear Tree Deluxe Edition
<v Speaker 1>and that or no, I'm sorry, not Deluxe Edition, just
<v Speaker 1>the standard Eldering Shadow of the Ear Tree Edition that
<v Speaker 1>is also eighty dollars. So the DLCs forty dollars on
<v Speaker 1>its own, but you can get this for eighty dollars
<v Speaker 1>on Steam. So this is this lines up with the
<v Speaker 1>pricing on other platforms, and you know, we also know
<v Speaker 1>what's happening here, right John, where it's like Nintendo does
<v Speaker 1>the thing where they work with these external partners to
<v Speaker 1>be like give us a special addition on the switch
<v Speaker 1>one so it feels a little special so it can
<v Speaker 1>be a higher price, and they're definitely doing that here
<v Speaker 1>as well.
<v Speaker 5>But it also just lines up with the price elsewhere.
<v Speaker 1>And the game's older, but that just doesn't matter that
<v Speaker 1>much anymore for a game like elden Ring, right that
<v Speaker 1>that it'll get discounts when they you know, from games
<v Speaker 1>do get discounts, so that'll happen. It's not like a
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo game, but I'm not too surprised by any of this,
<v Speaker 1>is what I'm saying.
<v Speaker 3>Yes, Sekiro is like seven years old, and like that's
<v Speaker 3>a game I really need to go to ryund to getting.
<v Speaker 3>But like, yeah, the lowest it drops is thirty. Like
<v Speaker 3>Fromsoft does really have that premium package for them, and
<v Speaker 3>I think a lot of people are willing to pay
<v Speaker 3>those prices, so it makes sense why they can do
<v Speaker 3>this on top of just the usual Nintendo you know,
<v Speaker 3>regurgitation kind of technique of like this game was on
<v Speaker 3>a lot of other platforms, but it's not been here here,
<v Speaker 3>so let's just charge full.
<v Speaker 4>Price for it. You know. It's frustrating yep.
<v Speaker 1>And as people point out that the box says game
<v Speaker 1>key Guard Edition and giant letters with a giant ugly
<v Speaker 1>box on it, it's so ugly.
<v Speaker 5>Have I told that story? I think I've told the story,
<v Speaker 5>but I'll tell.
<v Speaker 1>It again about how at Walmart they have the little
<v Speaker 1>cardboard flap that.
<v Speaker 5>Says Nintendo, Nintendo, Nintendo to make the branding look all cool.
<v Speaker 1>That flap covers up the game key Guard warning on
<v Speaker 1>every single box, so you only see.
<v Speaker 5>The pretty all I don't. I was like, I think
<v Speaker 5>this might be deliberate.
<v Speaker 1>I went over and looked at like PlayStation, they do
<v Speaker 1>the same thing and for PlayStation, which doesn't have those
<v Speaker 1>warnings in the same place at least, so it's like, man,
<v Speaker 1>that they should fix that actually though, because that's a
<v Speaker 1>lot of games on shelves, and a lot of those
<v Speaker 1>shelves are behind glass, so it's like you can't like
<v Speaker 1>pick it up and look at it. You have to
<v Speaker 1>go get someone's help and buy. Then often it's too late.
<v Speaker 1>You're a kind of railroaded into buying the things so
<v Speaker 1>ugly box but not if you're at Walmart. You can't
<v Speaker 1>see the ugliness, so they hide it pretty well. All right,
<v Speaker 1>let's wrap up this last story. Starfox for switch to
<v Speaker 1>could be announced very soon. This is from Blair Marnell
<v Speaker 1>at GameSpot. Late last month, the report emerged that Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>is developing a new Starfucks game four switch to. Now
<v Speaker 1>game leaker Nathan Hater's reporting that the official announcement announcement
<v Speaker 1>may come as soon as this month. And this is
<v Speaker 1>what we were speculating I think yesterday or uh maybe
<v Speaker 1>on the BombCast that we can probably like by the
<v Speaker 1>end of this month, this thing could get announced, because
<v Speaker 1>the expectation is the game could launch in June or July,
<v Speaker 1>and they're supposed to be a direct.
<v Speaker 5>The next direct we've heard is going to be in June.
<v Speaker 1>So if that's the case, it's like, okay, they could
<v Speaker 1>shadow drop it, they could announce it release it a
<v Speaker 1>month later. Seems though, like they're going to announce it
<v Speaker 1>here right in the wake of the movie where star
<v Speaker 1>Fox was a big part of that that the action there,
<v Speaker 1>and carry that momentum right into the announcement and then
<v Speaker 1>carry that announcement momentum right into.
<v Speaker 5>Releasing the game.
<v Speaker 1>If they do that, like is do you think it's
<v Speaker 1>another one of these Nintendo Today Twitter announcements that they
<v Speaker 1>just did for Rhythm Heave and Groove or do they
<v Speaker 1>do a little bit more?
<v Speaker 3>That's I mean, that's kind of what it seems like.
<v Speaker 3>It's very weird that we are getting kind of these
<v Speaker 3>Twitter directs, so to speak, like it. I do remember
<v Speaker 3>Splittoon Raiders just out of nowhere was announced kind of
<v Speaker 3>like this, but that was also bundled with another like
<v Speaker 3>Splittoon story or something.
<v Speaker 4>I think it was like the switch to version.
<v Speaker 3>It's weird, Like, yeah, I don't know, like I feel
<v Speaker 3>like it's deserving a fanfare, Like I think it deserves to,
<v Speaker 3>just like maybe they announced it unintended today and then
<v Speaker 3>announced a separate like Soul game direct if that he's
<v Speaker 3>gonna be the game of the summer, Yeah, it deserves
<v Speaker 3>I mean, like, we haven't seen a new Starbucks game
<v Speaker 3>in like ten years, unless you're calling like starlink or whatever.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, man, I don't know.
<v Speaker 3>Uh, I'm excited for whatever Starbucks brings, but yeah, it's
<v Speaker 3>like I feel like it is one of me and
<v Speaker 3>motives baby, so maybe it'll be kind of elevated in
<v Speaker 3>a new light, and especially when it's like, yeah, he
<v Speaker 3>was just headlining a new movie more like in it
<v Speaker 3>more than a lot of other Mario characters.
<v Speaker 5>Yep.
<v Speaker 3>One thing, yeah, uh. One thing I'm curious is like,
<v Speaker 3>what's your temperature on like what this game will be? Like,
<v Speaker 3>what size do you think it's gonna be. Do you
<v Speaker 3>think it's gonna be a full like eighty seventy dollars game,
<v Speaker 3>like it's gonna have on foot in the R wing
<v Speaker 3>cockpit missions or do you think it will strictly be
<v Speaker 3>like we're keeping it bear basics. Star of Fox sixty four,
<v Speaker 3>maybe we'll have a Landmaster mission or two.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, So I think so they're gonna want to charge
<v Speaker 1>seventy or eighty dollars for this, right, so they're gonna
<v Speaker 1>have to make it feel like a big, a big game.
<v Speaker 1>But you know how often has that like really shown
<v Speaker 1>up in Nintendo's games recently? We can often be like, wow,
<v Speaker 1>are they charging this much for that game? But whatever,
<v Speaker 1>they're gonna want to make it feel like a big,
<v Speaker 1>full game. And then you know, the rumor is it's
<v Speaker 1>going back to classic gameplay. So with those two things
<v Speaker 1>in mind, I think that it's going to be mostly
<v Speaker 1>our wing gameplay and then a lot of bonus alternative
<v Speaker 1>levels that have a lot of gimmicks that have a
<v Speaker 1>lot of the Submarine, a lot of the land Master, yes,
<v Speaker 1>and then probably some new stuff, maybe like one or
<v Speaker 1>two on foot missions that are really like well hidden
<v Speaker 1>so they're like they feel like extreme bonuses.
<v Speaker 5>And yeah, I think that they will do that to
<v Speaker 5>do it that way.
<v Speaker 1>And then I would like, if I were them, if
<v Speaker 1>I were in their shoes, I don't think this is
<v Speaker 1>gonna happen, but if I were in their shoes, I
<v Speaker 1>would make sure that like the real main mode, Like
<v Speaker 1>I would have a story campaign, but then I would
<v Speaker 1>like focus most of my efforts on a rogue light mode.
<v Speaker 1>I would turn Starfucks into a full rogue light with
<v Speaker 1>upgrades and bonuses and builds and the different paths you take.
<v Speaker 1>It's already just right there waiting for this. For the
<v Speaker 1>give advantage of that, I think that would be great.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I never considered a rogue light mode, but yeah,
<v Speaker 3>like I mean that's what I'm kind of hoping for.
<v Speaker 3>You were kind of speaking all the things that I
<v Speaker 3>want to hear. So it's like it's hard for me
<v Speaker 3>not to just smile at hearing that, Like peel the
<v Speaker 3>star Fox has been done so dirty, and.
<v Speaker 5>Then just get the visuals, right.
<v Speaker 1>I think if they just make it look stunning, which
<v Speaker 1>was apparently also that that's the reporting as well, is
<v Speaker 1>it looks really nice if they do that, I mean
<v Speaker 1>that goes a long way. I think we just want
<v Speaker 1>Starfox to look cool, especially coming out of that movie
<v Speaker 1>where he was very cool.
<v Speaker 4>He was very cool.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, even him just like kind of putting his laser
<v Speaker 3>blaster in his like side, that was dope. They were
<v Speaker 3>trying to make him a han solo character. Which I
<v Speaker 3>was like, that's a little weird, but like, man, yeah,
<v Speaker 3>it would just make me so happy for this game
<v Speaker 3>to be really big, to be the continuation that we've
<v Speaker 3>wanted since sixty four, but into a certain extent like Assault.
<v Speaker 3>Like I do have a soft spot for Assault, for
<v Speaker 3>like the five rowing missions that are in there, but
<v Speaker 3>I mean we're like a decade plus removed from then.
<v Speaker 3>I feel like they could make a land mission or
<v Speaker 3>too fun if they make you know, the kit that
<v Speaker 3>Fox has more fun to control.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, I'm looking forward to it. I mean, I think
<v Speaker 1>we're all like huffing the hopium on this one. Like
<v Speaker 1>I don't see a lot of people in chack go on,
<v Speaker 1>this isn't real, this isn't gonna happen. We're all like,
<v Speaker 1>now this is happening. We all believe it, and we're
<v Speaker 1>all getting pretty excited.
<v Speaker 5>So hopefully it delivers. I would love Star Fox to
<v Speaker 5>just be back back.
<v Speaker 1>That would be fantastic, and then I would love for
<v Speaker 1>that to lead into a movie of his own and
<v Speaker 1>all that stuff.
<v Speaker 5>It could be really fun. All right.
<v Speaker 1>That tested for the headlines. Everybody, let's start wrapping up
<v Speaker 1>the show. We have the pull question from yesterday because
<v Speaker 1>today is Thursday, so.
<v Speaker 5>We did a show on Wednesday.
<v Speaker 1>Are you more likely to support an indie game if
<v Speaker 1>it has a physical release? Yes, now, I'll go digital,
<v Speaker 1>I'll double dip. Those are your options, I will say yes,
<v Speaker 1>actually no, yes, I actually am more excited because it's like, man,
<v Speaker 1>it just feels more real to me. Twenty six percent
<v Speaker 1>said yes, sixty three percent just said nah, I'll go digital,
<v Speaker 1>and ten percent said I'll double dip.
<v Speaker 5>That ten percent double dipping, John is that's the.
<v Speaker 1>Collector market, right where these are people who really play games.
<v Speaker 5>When the game comes out digitally, and.
<v Speaker 1>Then when it gets a physical release a year later,
<v Speaker 1>they'll double dip because they want to have the physical
<v Speaker 1>version of it. And that's that whole business model of
<v Speaker 1>people who are super into that stuff and giving them
<v Speaker 1>an opportunity to spend even more money on this thing
<v Speaker 1>they've already played and experienced, and they're kind of holding
<v Speaker 1>up that whole side of the bargain, which I'm okay with.
<v Speaker 5>I'm fine with that. That's great. All right. Do we
<v Speaker 5>have a new poll question. We'll get to it here
<v Speaker 5>in a second.
<v Speaker 1>Before we do that, John Martin, why don't you tell
<v Speaker 1>people where they can find you on the internet, what
<v Speaker 1>you have going on and all that good stuff.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, so you can follow me on blue sky at
<v Speaker 3>John Martin, blue sky dot social or what I have
<v Speaker 3>you John Martin, I'll be there.
<v Speaker 5>Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>In terms of projects, been working on a big Pokemon
<v Speaker 3>retrospective for like three months at this point cool starting
<v Speaker 3>to pivot into being like smaller stuff to supplement that.
<v Speaker 3>So I have a couple one piece videos coming out.
<v Speaker 3>I have a couple Star Fox Wants and Desires videos
<v Speaker 3>kind of coming out. And then yeah, tonight I might
<v Speaker 3>be streaming some Marvel rivals. And then tomorrow I am
<v Speaker 3>one hundred percent streaming SA Mario Cardi with some friends.
<v Speaker 4>So that'll be.
<v Speaker 5>Fun, fantastic. That's uh.
<v Speaker 1>I'm gonna be setting stuff up for that endurance run.
<v Speaker 1>Like I said, so I might be streaming tomorrow night
<v Speaker 1>as well. Everybody just test my setup to make sure
<v Speaker 1>the audio is good. I think it's going to be.
<v Speaker 1>I think we're all good fantasy. Yes, I have my
<v Speaker 1>fidget gun. This is my fidget gun. Everybody. When I
<v Speaker 1>just need to fidget with something, I just get out
<v Speaker 1>the send in like gun. It's got a look you
<v Speaker 1>know I could cock it and pull the trigger and
<v Speaker 1>it's not connected right now, so I'm not going to
<v Speaker 1>break the computer, all right. The new poll question that
<v Speaker 1>we will answer on tomorrow's show, have you played Rhythm
<v Speaker 1>Heaven before?
<v Speaker 5>Yes or no?
<v Speaker 1>Really kind of interested, interested to see what this audience
<v Speaker 1>is responsible be to this because I know there's been
<v Speaker 1>some Rhythm Heaven love on Giant Bomb for a very
<v Speaker 1>long time, So I bet this audience is wise to
