<v Speaker 1>It's the Internet. You're busy. Let's do this for January <v Speaker 1>twenty fourth, twenty twenty five. For the next hour or so, <v Speaker 1>let me help you sort through the world of gaming <v Speaker 1>on Game Mess Mornings Live with Me Jeff Grubb. Today, <v Speaker 1>Ninja got in his back again and again and why <v Speaker 1>doesn't Capcom just tell us which Resident Evil it's remaking next? <v Speaker 1>But first please join me and welcoming today's co host <v Speaker 1>the Game Mess Mornings. It's merit, kay, everybody merret. How <v Speaker 1>are you doing. <v Speaker 2>I'm pretty good, Jeff, are you? <v Speaker 1>I'm excellent. Yeah, I'm ready for the weekend. But it <v Speaker 1>was a good week of shows. Ready to do a <v Speaker 1>good show with you. Kind of just trying to be <v Speaker 1>in a good mood, try not to let things get <v Speaker 1>to me too much. It's difficult, you know, especially it's <v Speaker 1>been like nine degrees every day here. <v Speaker 2>Oh my god, it's so cold where I am too. <v Speaker 1>Yes, it's brutally like it hurts, and I like I <v Speaker 1>like the cold. I like the winner. <v Speaker 2>But you know, you're taking chip image inside. <v Speaker 1>It's brutal exactly. I want to like go for a walk, <v Speaker 1>and it's like, oh, that's that's just not an option. <v Speaker 1>So it was getting to me, but I'm trying to <v Speaker 1>like recognize that I have some mindfulness and not let <v Speaker 1>it like tear me down and like make me put <v Speaker 1>me in a bad mood. So yeah, but that's that's <v Speaker 1>been a battle. But I'm like, okay, I think I'm <v Speaker 1>getting back. Think I'm getting back like on my feet there. <v Speaker 1>So yeah, like having a good time. How how have <v Speaker 1>you been? Yeah? <v Speaker 2>Not too bad. I mean, yeah, I'm kind of freezing <v Speaker 2>up in Canada. It's you know, frigid, but that's normal. <v Speaker 2>It should be cold this time of year, right, I <v Speaker 2>don't know, we should just kind of accept that. But yeah, <v Speaker 2>it's been a good start to the new year so far, <v Speaker 2>you know, trying to get back into playing some newer games, <v Speaker 2>into some older stuff lately, but catching up on some <v Speaker 2>stuff and playing Donkey Kong Country Returns for like the <v Speaker 2>third time in ten years, which is does they just <v Speaker 2>keep putting that one out? <v Speaker 1>Huh? Yeah? It has charge sixty dollars again? Why not? Yeah? <v Speaker 2>Frame rates not as good as on the Wii as <v Speaker 2>I remember, but that's okay. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's I keep seeing people play at you know, <v Speaker 1>the rerelease just came out of everybody and I'm like, ah, well, <v Speaker 1>I should play it again. I like Donkey Kong Country Returns. <v Speaker 1>I don't know if I love it as much as <v Speaker 1>some some people do. I think it's just a really <v Speaker 1>good solid platformer. <v Speaker 2>I keep hearing the Tropical Freeze. My friend Danielle Riendo <v Speaker 2>from FM Bite and now Game Industry is just like <v Speaker 2>a huge stan of that game of Tropical Freeze. And <v Speaker 2>one day I'll play it. But it's just like whenever <v Speaker 2>I go in the E shop, I'm like, you know, <v Speaker 2>I would love to play a Nintendo platform or at <v Speaker 2>like forty dollars, but like Man sixty is ugh, it <v Speaker 2>is kind of pushing it, you know. <v Speaker 1>Yep, absolutely, I believe I just killed my camera. Okay, <v Speaker 1>there it's back. He did my camera. M'd be broke <v Speaker 1>for you still, though, I don't. Either that comes back <v Speaker 1>or it doesn't, I'm sorry. We'll see. I definitely try. <v Speaker 1>Just tried to put my feet up. I kicked a <v Speaker 1>cord and then I heard the USB disconnect sound and Windows. <v Speaker 1>It's just, uh, I don't care anymore, you know, I <v Speaker 1>gotta be honest. I just don't care anymore. It's just <v Speaker 1>I'm gonna kick stuff, the computers gonna break. We're all <v Speaker 1>just gonna have to deal with it. Yeah, I are <v Speaker 1>there any new games that you're like kind of eyeing, <v Speaker 1>because I've definitely been mentioning on this show since the <v Speaker 1>beginning of the year where I'm like, I'm having a <v Speaker 1>hard time like paying attention to stuff and feeling like <v Speaker 1>I can like give myself over a completely new new game. <v Speaker 1>Part of that is there's a couple games I'm trying <v Speaker 1>to clear up from last year, and part of it <v Speaker 1>is just I don't know, just not not in the <v Speaker 1>mood in the moment. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I don't know. I mean I picked up I <v Speaker 2>mean this came out last year, but I've been playing <v Speaker 2>the Shadow Generations Sonic Generations like remy sequel things right, yes, <v Speaker 2>kind of like a weird hybrid. So I've been working <v Speaker 2>through that, and I don't know. The new Doom looks cool. <v Speaker 2>I was a big fan of Doom Eternal. I really <v Speaker 2>loved that. I know some people weren't like crazy about <v Speaker 2>how many little like finicky weapons and items they gave <v Speaker 2>you to work with, but once you got into a <v Speaker 2>flow with that game, it seems really cool. So it'll <v Speaker 2>be interesting to see, like how they slow that down, yes, <v Speaker 2>or U shrcages Yeah. <v Speaker 1>Actually, yeah, let's get into it cause that's one of <v Speaker 1>the games we could talk about. Let's explain what we <v Speaker 1>do here first. Most weekdays, I Jeff Grub will help <v Speaker 1>ease your gaming life back together. That includes breaking news <v Speaker 1>and maybe even some of our own original reporting. For <v Speaker 1>all these topics, I'll get the input of a bona <v Speaker 1>fide expert who will make me look smart. If you <v Speaker 1>were watching live on twitch welcome. You can always listen <v Speaker 1>to the show later on podcast feeds by searching for <v Speaker 1>game Mes Mornings or find the RSS on giant bomb <v Speaker 1>dot com. You can also catch the show later with <v Speaker 1>chapters and timestamps on YouTube. Hello YouTube. All right, we <v Speaker 1>have a lot to get into, so let's start the <v Speaker 1>morning mess with everything announced at Microsoft's January Xbox Developer <v Speaker 1>direct This is from Nicole Carpenter at Polygon. Microsoft had <v Speaker 1>a show yesterday. They showed off the four games. As promised, <v Speaker 1>there was a bonus game. The big surprising game that <v Speaker 1>they were teasing was indeed Ninja Guide in four from <v Speaker 1>Team Ninja and Platinum Games, partnering up to work with <v Speaker 1>them apparently been in the works for quite some time. <v Speaker 1>Because this game is coming out this far and I woo, <v Speaker 1>it looked really really good. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean Platinum has been kind of like am <v Speaker 2>I for a while m hm, and this of all <v Speaker 2>of the things that they could be like, oh they're <v Speaker 2>back with is like Ninja Guy done, Like wow, that's crazy, <v Speaker 2>Like okay, I'm yeah, I'm actually pretty high for that. <v Speaker 1>Yeah. I was like I kind of heard this one, <v Speaker 1>like I'm not sure what to expect. Sure like that <v Speaker 1>they should definitely should do that. Are they going to <v Speaker 1>try to kind of change things up? It's like no, <v Speaker 1>it looks like they're gonna just make a sick ass <v Speaker 1>action game. It's what Ninja Guidon should obviously be. But yeah, <v Speaker 1>just totally shocked that Team Ninja Platinum Games working together <v Speaker 1>on this. I think it's gonna be really promising though <v Speaker 1>it h They also kind of at the time when <v Speaker 1>they announced this had a little tease at the nah <v Speaker 1>and here's something extra. Ninja and Guidan Too Black also <v Speaker 1>announced and shadow dropped, So people are playing that right now. <v Speaker 1>That one was seemingly just Team Ninja remaking that in <v Speaker 1>Real Engine five apparently, you know it's on game Pass. <v Speaker 1>A lot of people played it right away, very running <v Speaker 1>very well on Xbox. Heard some issues with the PC version. <v Speaker 1>That's the one I'm gonna try here pretty soon here, <v Speaker 1>but I've not done that yet. Watch some people play <v Speaker 1>that also, just god man, that game also was always <v Speaker 1>very cool. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean god, those those Ninja Guide end games <v Speaker 2>from like were those like mid tw thousands at that point. Yeah, yeah, <v Speaker 2>like original Xbox. <v Speaker 1>So the first one was original Xbox. Yeah, it was the <v Speaker 1>second one might have been as well. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, and then even like three was god like <v Speaker 2>what twenty twelve, Yeah. <v Speaker 1>I mean it was a while ago. Yeah, and that's <v Speaker 1>the one most people kind of don't have a lot <v Speaker 1>of love for. So yeah, right, but yeah, I kind <v Speaker 1>of okay, Yeah, Team Ninja has been busy. They've been <v Speaker 1>making a lot of games over the last couple years. <v Speaker 1>Lo long Rise of the Ronan. They you know, work <v Speaker 1>for higher stuff. They've been doing a lot of They <v Speaker 1>worked with Nintendo for a little bit on a game <v Speaker 1>that I think got canceled recently. So yeah, they had <v Speaker 1>a lot going on. And yeah, so it makes sense like, okay, <v Speaker 1>Team Ninja, we're gonna make a new Ninja Guide and <v Speaker 1>let's find a partner. But yeah, Platinum game's coming in <v Speaker 1>and helping out. Very very cool. Also from the developer direct, <v Speaker 1>they went to South of Midnight game We've seen a <v Speaker 1>bunch of times before. This is the most we've seen. <v Speaker 1>It also turns out to people looks like a character <v Speaker 1>action game. It's got a strong style to it, does <v Speaker 1>the kind of animation on the on the twos. I'm <v Speaker 1>no animation expert. I heard that term because I watched <v Speaker 1>Spider Man into the Spi Spider, So yeah, I'm saying <v Speaker 1>that I don't really know what I mean, but that's <v Speaker 1>what it looks like. And it's very very cool term <v Speaker 1>in terms of where it's pulling its inspiration from the <v Speaker 1>American South. All that stuff is really working for me. <v Speaker 1>I will say, I look at the action itself and <v Speaker 1>I'm like, I don't know if this is super dynamic <v Speaker 1>or winning me over from watching it, but of course <v Speaker 1>I'm just gonna have to play it. How do you feel? <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean the thing with some of these smaller <v Speaker 2>games is when they go with action stuff, there's always <v Speaker 2>this tension I feel like, because people who are going <v Speaker 2>to be drawn to the aesthetic and like the narrative <v Speaker 2>aren't always going to be looking for like a hardcore <v Speaker 2>action game. So maybe there is some like negotiation on <v Speaker 2>the team of like do we not make this like <v Speaker 2>a super super in depth, like crunchy action thing and <v Speaker 2>sort of make it a little more approachable. And I <v Speaker 2>think it's always a balancing act with the kind of <v Speaker 2>stuff because it's like a new it's like not like <v Speaker 2>a legacy franchise, and they're trying to get a bunch <v Speaker 2>of different people interested in this, right, So I think <v Speaker 2>it is something where you'll just have to play it. <v Speaker 2>But I'm sure that they're like, Okay, it's visually distinct <v Speaker 2>enough and like narratively distinct enough that even if it <v Speaker 2>isn't as in depth as something like an Inja guide <v Speaker 2>and like, it'll pull people in. <v Speaker 1>Uh. Do you have the little brain reaction that I <v Speaker 1>have that when I found out that this game was <v Speaker 1>forty dollars, I'm like, Hm, I'm worried about that. Why <v Speaker 1>is it only forty dollars? Yeah? <v Speaker 2>I mean pricing with this stuff is always so weird, right, <v Speaker 2>Like we were just saying like, oh I would. <v Speaker 1>Oh, hello, did I lose you check? Can you still <v Speaker 1>hear me? I think you could still hear me. It's like, oh, <v Speaker 1>that puts me lost you for a second, merit, You're <v Speaker 1>gonna have to repeat that. So we were talking about <v Speaker 1>forget sorry bro. <v Speaker 2>Yeah yeah, just pricing on this stuff is always so tough, righty, <v Speaker 2>Like forty at this point is I don't know, like <v Speaker 2>you feel like that's kind of low? <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean, I don't know. I think in my <v Speaker 1>head it is. I see these games get announced initially <v Speaker 1>and I'm like, Okay, this is another one of these <v Speaker 1>big games from a big publisher, and I have a <v Speaker 1>certain set of expectations, and then the only thing that's <v Speaker 1>brought down those expectations is finding out it's not sixty <v Speaker 1>to seventy dollars, it's forty dollars, and like these days <v Speaker 1>the budget price is fifty dollars. And really what it is, really, <v Speaker 1>what it is is that the last game that Microsoft <v Speaker 1>put out at forty dollars was help late to a <v Speaker 1>game I found disappointing and had no real enjoyment from. <v Speaker 1>And I'm like, what are they trying to say by this? <v Speaker 1>And of course I don't think they're trying to say anything. <v Speaker 1>I think they just think that's the fair price for <v Speaker 1>the game they're making. But I don't know that. Again, <v Speaker 1>it's very it's a little brain thing. It's like I'm <v Speaker 1>not thinking about it beyond my initial knee jerk reaction. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean, prices send signals to people. Yeah, right, <v Speaker 2>that's the signal you're getting. And I'm sure other people <v Speaker 2>are as well. And I'm sure they have, you know, <v Speaker 2>a huge team of people deciding what that price point <v Speaker 2>should be. And there is some argument in favor of like, well, <v Speaker 2>this will make it more approachable to people who might <v Speaker 2>not otherwise be interusted. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I'm sure that's actually what they're what they're thinking. <v Speaker 1>They're Again again, I feel like this is one I <v Speaker 1>really just want to get my hands on to see <v Speaker 1>how it feels, and if that action is fun, I <v Speaker 1>will be very happy. Because everything else about it looks <v Speaker 1>so fascinating and so well done. Then pretty lengthy look <v Speaker 1>at Clare Obscure Expedition thirty three the French JRPG. I'm <v Speaker 1>just gonna call it a GRPG and everyone's gonna have <v Speaker 1>to deal with it. <v Speaker 2>It's a genre at this point. <v Speaker 1>This is a genre at this point. It's a style. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>and it's I thought that was very impressive. A part <v Speaker 1>of it is I think that the JRPG asked JRPG <v Speaker 1>elements where you know, big numbers coming off of enemies <v Speaker 1>as you attack them, and you know, characters on your <v Speaker 1>team standing in a line taking turns attacking just looked <v Speaker 1>really solid. It looked very stylish. And then there is <v Speaker 1>you know, it's French quirkiness. There's a big inflatable clown <v Speaker 1>character that flies around the world. There is a monster <v Speaker 1>that's a goofball that is like, you know, doing pratfalls. <v Speaker 1>I'm like, oh, this seems like it's got the juice. <v Speaker 1>So I was pretty fascinated by it, how about you? <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean I definitely see some DNA from stuff <v Speaker 2>like Persona in the UI, especially like the pop out <v Speaker 2>like battle commands and things like that. In terms of <v Speaker 2>like the look of it, I'm not as like drawn <v Speaker 2>to this kind of like I don't know, it's sort <v Speaker 2>of like a big le dragon age kind of maybe <v Speaker 2>the frenchness of it will carry it through and give <v Speaker 2>it a distinctness, but I'm definitely interested. Like seeing more <v Speaker 2>developers try their hand at this kind of genre is fun, <v Speaker 2>I think, so. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I do think it, like, I don't know if <v Speaker 1>this this is not necessarily a shot across the bow <v Speaker 1>at like at Square INIX. I don't think they're going <v Speaker 1>to necessarily feel the pressure from this unless this game <v Speaker 1>reviews spectacularly. But it's you know, I do look at <v Speaker 1>this and I'm like, yeah, I think this is one <v Speaker 1>the kind of thing when I think, hey, what should <v Speaker 1>Final Fantasy be? I think you should look a little <v Speaker 1>bit more like this, you know, not exactly, but a <v Speaker 1>little bit more so that alone is impressive. Again, we'll <v Speaker 1>see game will come out. I think this one is <v Speaker 1>also you know, this is fifty dollars. They're promising at <v Speaker 1>least thirty hours of gameplay. You know, whatever that means <v Speaker 1>to anybody is you know, everyone can decide for themselves. <v Speaker 1>But when I hear that, I'm like, okay, that sounds <v Speaker 1>pretty fascinating. I kind of want to see more. But <v Speaker 1>I thought this was a good showing. And then doing <v Speaker 1>the Dark Ages, I think, you know, from the beginning, <v Speaker 1>I think this is such a good concept for Doom. <v Speaker 1>They you know, this is a franchise that has been <v Speaker 1>resuscitated at least, you know, one time in a major <v Speaker 1>way in twenty sixteen and then Eternal like it has <v Speaker 1>its fans, but there's definitely people who are like have <v Speaker 1>some you know, issues with it nitpicks, and it just <v Speaker 1>felt like it lost some steam from that sequel, and <v Speaker 1>I think they did the right thing and being like, Okay, <v Speaker 1>let's you know, kind of rethink once again what Doom <v Speaker 1>can be, maybe go back to some basics yet again. <v Speaker 1>And I don't know, from what I'm seeing, I think <v Speaker 1>it's working for me. How about you? <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean absolutely, Like I'm always a sucker for <v Speaker 2>first person melee combat stuff. Yeah, going back to like <v Speaker 2>even the I played through it again like last year, <v Speaker 2>the year before the old Mighten Magic game, the Heroes <v Speaker 2>of Mighten Magic one that was like pre arcane I think, <v Speaker 2>or maybe it was one of the first arcane games <v Speaker 2>I forget, but just I don't know. Stuff like that's <v Speaker 2>like just really fun for me, And just it makes <v Speaker 2>so much sense for Doom because you already had a <v Speaker 2>lot of close combat stuff with the Chainsaw and then <v Speaker 2>with like the Glory Kills, and yeah, it'll be like <v Speaker 2>I was saying before, it's like Doom Eternal was so fast. <v Speaker 2>It'll be interesting to see how it works in this <v Speaker 2>more slowed down like standing still kind of. I think <v Speaker 2>they're like saying like, oh do maternal was like run <v Speaker 2>and shoot or jump and shoot, and this is more <v Speaker 2>like stand still and shoot. So I don't know, I'm <v Speaker 2>I'm really excited for this. Eternal was a blast and <v Speaker 2>twenty sixteen was great as well. <v Speaker 1>So yeah, I mean, it's surprising to me that Doom <v Speaker 1>can be this many different things. But it's like, you know, <v Speaker 1>we've seeing it clearly it can be and you know, <v Speaker 1>I don't I hesitate to say it, but since I <v Speaker 1>get from like the boss fights that they showed off <v Speaker 1>is a little bit of from soft inspiration, where you know, <v Speaker 1>the stand and fight and perry system, it's like, yeah, <v Speaker 1>stand in front of there, be ready to actually go <v Speaker 1>one on one with this boss. And I think, I god, <v Speaker 1>I think that's such a good idea, especially when you <v Speaker 1>get the cool chah, you know, shield saw I think <v Speaker 1>they called it that, and then and then the flail <v Speaker 1>looked fantastic. What a good idea for a Doom weapon. <v Speaker 2>I kind of like, when I saw this, I was like, wait, <v Speaker 2>have we not? Has this not happened before? I know, right, <v Speaker 2>so obviously, And I think what it was was that <v Speaker 2>my brain was going to spawn. Sure, because spawn is <v Speaker 2>also a thing about Hell that also did like a <v Speaker 2>medieval thing, and I'm like, oh, okay, yeah, no, that's <v Speaker 2>what it is. But it just feels so logical that <v Speaker 2>it's I don't know. I'm definitely like going to keep <v Speaker 2>an eye on it. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, And and for me, dooms are like I'm on <v Speaker 1>the record as being like, ah, spawn, it's too try <v Speaker 1>hard edgy stuff. Doom has always been able to like <v Speaker 1>ride the line of it's a metal album cover and <v Speaker 1>knows it is. And I think that's one of the <v Speaker 1>best elements of Doom twenty sixteen is Doom Guys. The <v Speaker 1>humor of Doom Guy and whenever he enters a room <v Speaker 1>and all the characters dealing with that and him just <v Speaker 1>kind of punching a screen when someone's trying to threaten <v Speaker 1>him and stuff like that because he's like not because <v Speaker 1>he's like mad, because he's bored and he wants to <v Speaker 1>go back to killing things that stuff owns. They maybe <v Speaker 1>overdid that a little bit with Eternal, but I think <v Speaker 1>I think they could probably dial it back in here <v Speaker 1>and make it work. So it's like, I don't know, <v Speaker 1>the vibe the stop has always been on point with <v Speaker 1>Doom and it seems like they are doing it once <v Speaker 1>again here. Yeah. Yeah, overall though, I thought it was <v Speaker 1>a pretty impressive show. How are you feeling about because <v Speaker 1>you know so doomed The Dark Ages is May fifteenth, <v Speaker 1>Claire obscure April twenty fourth. South of Midnight is expected <v Speaker 1>out in twenty twenty five. Oh no, April light Yes, <v Speaker 1>April eight, Yes, there it is, and then a Ninja <v Speaker 1>goy In four is coming out this fall, and of <v Speaker 1>course Ninja got In two Black as mentioned, a shadow <v Speaker 1>dropped yesterday, so people are playing that we're kind of <v Speaker 1>off to the races here for the first half of <v Speaker 1>the year, and then you know, Ninja got In four <v Speaker 1>later in the fall. How are you feeling about the <v Speaker 1>release schedule for this year? Is everyone keeps talking about Oh, no, <v Speaker 1>one wants to do anything until GTA six moves. Feels <v Speaker 1>like way everyone is understanding that's not going to be <v Speaker 1>until at least late this year. So the fact that <v Speaker 1>we're getting some good stuff early this year feels pretty <v Speaker 1>good to me. Yeah. <v Speaker 2>I mean, this feels like a pretty strong slate, to <v Speaker 2>be honest. It's a pretty widespread too. I mean, you've <v Speaker 2>got like like RPGs more like narrative action games and <v Speaker 2>then like a legacy sequels with Ninja Gaiden. <v Speaker 1>So yep, yeah, yeah exactly. It's like you know, as <v Speaker 1>always will have to play the game, see how we <v Speaker 1>really feel about him, but something to get excited about <v Speaker 1>look forward to they do. Also, yes, they have a <v Speaker 1>vowed coming out very soon. There's other games Fable they mentioned, <v Speaker 1>and of course then we got you know, we have <v Speaker 1>to hear more from both Nintendo and PlayStation when it <v Speaker 1>comes to the big publishers. And yeah, we'll see that <v Speaker 1>they will both be talking more soon, I expect. All Right, <v Speaker 1>we had him on the show yet yesterday Matt Piscatella, <v Speaker 1>he posted this a little bit before we started the show. <v Speaker 1>I did not have time to like get all the <v Speaker 1>info from his latest December twenty twenty four US video <v Speaker 1>game market sales report from Sircana. So let's do it now. <v Speaker 1>December twenty twenty four projected US consumer spending on video <v Speaker 1>game hardware, content and accessories declined nine percent when compared <v Speaker 1>to a year ago to seven point five billion dollars. <v Speaker 1>Spending during the twenty twenty four year fell one point <v Speaker 1>one percent compared to twenty twenty three to fifty eight <v Speaker 1>point seven billion dollars, and those numbers they sound big. <v Speaker 1>It includes like mobile and everything, and some of it's projected. <v Speaker 1>So he's doing he is extrapolating based on the data <v Speaker 1>he does have. Yeah, so video game sales a total <v Speaker 1>down nine percent. Really, you know the big culprit here, <v Speaker 1>Merit is hardware. Hardware sales were down twenty nine percent <v Speaker 1>in December, and for the year they were down twenty <v Speaker 1>five percent. Now again, had Matt on the show yesterday. <v Speaker 1>He mentions like that, we are clearly the switch is <v Speaker 1>the switch. It's done. It's at the end of its life. <v Speaker 1>It is not selling as well as it once was, <v Speaker 1>which is natural expected. Apparently, it was also expected that <v Speaker 1>we should have seen a drop for PS five and <v Speaker 1>Xbox Series X and S. I did just kind of <v Speaker 1>like it flashed back to me this morning, Merit like <v Speaker 1>I was living in another state when that happens. Only <v Speaker 1>that was quite a while ago. Twenty twenty is actually <v Speaker 1>five years ago, now, a decade ago, yes, exactly, So <v Speaker 1>it's like it's kind of starting to settle in and yeah, <v Speaker 1>we are on the other side of that hump. What <v Speaker 1>he did say, though, is the decline was more precipitous <v Speaker 1>than he was expecting, and really than we've seen intro <v Speaker 1>and past generations. I chalked that up to so many <v Speaker 1>people rushed into this generation during the pandemic that there's <v Speaker 1>just not a lot of audience left to rush out <v Speaker 1>and spend five hundred to six hundred dollars on these devices, <v Speaker 1>even as a PS five pro comes out was that <v Speaker 1>seven hundred dollars. I can't remember how much that is, <v Speaker 1>but yeah, it just like there's just not a huge <v Speaker 1>audience left out there to tap into, which is sort <v Speaker 1>of the underlying problem with like a lot of the <v Speaker 1>industry's issues at the moment, right where it's like consoles <v Speaker 1>aren't growing and these companies keep making games for that <v Speaker 1>audience and they're more expensive than ever, and it's like <v Speaker 1>those two concepts are putting up against one another, right right. Yeah. <v Speaker 1>I mean. <v Speaker 2>One thing that I haven't seen a lot of people <v Speaker 2>talking about, and I don't know if is true, but <v Speaker 2>just a buddy of mine over at Bungee was talking <v Speaker 2>about the some police guy the other day. This idea <v Speaker 2>that like the market, the like demographic that's driven game <v Speaker 2>sales for the last like twenty years, is starting to <v Speaker 2>hit like their mid thirties forties at this point, like millennials, right, <v Speaker 2>And there's this question of like, are they going to <v Speaker 2>keep buying games or are they aging out to some <v Speaker 2>extent and will that audience be like picked off by <v Speaker 2>younger people, and like, I don't know, like possibly. <v Speaker 1>Not right, possibly not. Yeah, it's feeling unlikely. It is <v Speaker 1>feeling like, you know, even if it is that their <v Speaker 1>spending will be more diversified, they're the spending of their <v Speaker 1>time will be spent more on one free game that <v Speaker 1>they've been playing already that has become an ingrained hobby. <v Speaker 1>And then when they're not doing that, they are spending <v Speaker 1>a ton of time on apps that take up a <v Speaker 1>lot of their of their space where you know, tiktoks <v Speaker 1>and stuff like that. That's what they're competing with. So, yeah, <v Speaker 1>I don't think that the next generation of kids are <v Speaker 1>going to come in here and be like, yes, we <v Speaker 1>love spending five hundred to six hundred one hundred dollars <v Speaker 1>on consoles every half decade, and then we're going to <v Speaker 1>spend a ton of money on premium games each year. <v Speaker 1>They've been they've learned that that is not necessarily a <v Speaker 1>great way for them to do it. And they're not <v Speaker 1>going to suddenly be like jump in and replace this <v Speaker 1>just because we're like, hey, we want more of these games. <v Speaker 1>You guys should all spend your money. They're just not <v Speaker 1>going to write. <v Speaker 2>Yeah. I mean I don't think so. I mean, I <v Speaker 2>think something that people in their thirties like maybe don't <v Speaker 2>realize that people who are ten years younger than them <v Speaker 2>grew up playing for you to play games, Like you know, <v Speaker 2>there are a lot of people now who grew up <v Speaker 2>playing Fortnite, grew up playing Minecraft, grew up playing Roblocks <v Speaker 2>even And that's like a totally different value proposition, right, <v Speaker 2>And it's like like you say, like to jump from <v Speaker 2>that to I will start buying like annual releases for <v Speaker 2>sixty dollars and buying this like very expensive box every <v Speaker 2>few years. Is it's like a they're going to have <v Speaker 2>a hard time selling people on that, is I think <v Speaker 2>the point I'm trying to. <v Speaker 1>Make think they I think they know that and they're <v Speaker 1>I mean all this, everything that they're trying over the <v Speaker 1>last several years has been like trying to prepare for <v Speaker 1>that or bridge the gap to something else, and no <v Speaker 1>one really knows what that looks like, uh yeah, someone <v Speaker 1>chat pointed I lost it though. You know, also, the <v Speaker 1>Millennial Cohort is actually there are more people in the <v Speaker 1>Millennial Cohort than in Jena Ze. Actually it's the largest cohort. <v Speaker 1>Uh and uh so then maybe there's something to that <v Speaker 1>as well. Yeah, just in general. But I think the <v Speaker 1>bigger problem just the way people have learned and that <v Speaker 1>different way of engaging with video games and the traditional <v Speaker 1>industry that had made a lot of money for a <v Speaker 1>long time, but making big budget games just has not <v Speaker 1>come to terms with that. And really I think part <v Speaker 1>of it was we we fooled them. We say, hey, <v Speaker 1>we will keep spending more money every time you put <v Speaker 1>one of these out, and now we're old and bitter <v Speaker 1>and are all this is driven by screaming YouTubers that <v Speaker 1>like't want you to get mad at the game when <v Speaker 1>it gets announced, and so Assassin's Creed Shadows kind of <v Speaker 1>seems like it won't matter if that game is good <v Speaker 1>or bad. People are just like, that's a Ubisoft slop <v Speaker 1>and that's all I'm gonna feel about it, all right. <v Speaker 1>Matt had some more information here the best selling games <v Speaker 1>of December. It's I mean God, it really just does <v Speaker 1>just speak to the problem. One new game on there, <v Speaker 1>and it's Indiana Jones and The Great Circle, which just <v Speaker 1>came out on Xbox and Steam and reached uh let's <v Speaker 1>see for yeah, fourteenth on the chart. Yeah, it's not <v Speaker 1>I don't know, not great. Matt said he thought for <v Speaker 1>only beyond an Xbox and Steam, that is pretty good <v Speaker 1>when he when he when he was asked about it, <v Speaker 1>and I, I, you know, I tend to believe him <v Speaker 1>when he says something like that, but also it's like, boy, <v Speaker 1>I thought that would do a little bit better than this. <v Speaker 1>Of course it's on game Pass. It is on game Pass. <v Speaker 1>I'm sure it sold a lot of game Pass. But <v Speaker 1>I don't know, do you think knee jerk reaction that <v Speaker 1>that's pretty okay for Indiana? <v Speaker 2>I mean, yeah, it seems it seems pretty good. Also, <v Speaker 2>just I don't know how much recognition does Indiana Jones <v Speaker 2>have among people who are like younger than thirty five <v Speaker 2>at this point. <v Speaker 1>It's an old white guy thing. <v Speaker 2>That's kind of how like I like Indiana Jones, but <v Speaker 2>like I just you know, the last movie was what <v Speaker 2>a year or two ago, and Harrison Ford is how <v Speaker 2>old at this point. <v Speaker 1>In that movie was underperformed. I think it's the kind <v Speaker 1>way of writing. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean, it maybe did better than Crystal's Skull <v Speaker 2>I don't remember, but like so, I mean it feels <v Speaker 2>this feels like again one of these these titles that <v Speaker 2>is like it's so targeted out a specific type of <v Speaker 2>person who has been playing this type of game for <v Speaker 2>so long and knows who Indiana Jones is. And like, <v Speaker 2>by all accounts, like I've heard it's great, I haven't <v Speaker 2>had a chance to play enjoyed it a lot. Yeah, <v Speaker 2>like I've heard it's it's really well crafted and it's <v Speaker 2>just a great you know, use of the character. But again, <v Speaker 2>like it doesn't super surprise me that it only hit fourteen, <v Speaker 2>just again because like who younger people might have seen <v Speaker 2>him in Fortnite, but like beyond that, I don't know. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, And Nikki's remind me Harrison Ford's in a TV <v Speaker 1>show from The Yellowstone Guy, and it's like I have <v Speaker 1>YouTube shorts, Nikki, I know this, of course, of course <v Speaker 1>I've seen that on YouTube. Yeah, all right, we also <v Speaker 1>have the list of the best selling games of the year. <v Speaker 1>Because the year's over, we're getting that report. Let's see <v Speaker 1>here twenty twenty four your top twenty best selling premium games. <v Speaker 1>By the end, Call of Duty Black Op six actually <v Speaker 1>did outperform EA Sports College Football twenty five, So once <v Speaker 1>again a Call of Duty game at the top of <v Speaker 1>the charts. It did seem there for a minute that <v Speaker 1>college football would be able to do that, but it didn't. <v Speaker 1>Then Helldivers two at number three, followed by Dragon Ball <v Speaker 1>sparking zero. Really, I mean there was a pent up <v Speaker 1>demand for that. Just honestly, that is anime nerds college <v Speaker 1>football right there. It's the exact same thing for a <v Speaker 1>different audience. But yeah, not too surprising that did very well. <v Speaker 1>NBA two K twenty five at number five. I don't <v Speaker 1>think that includes digital on let's see, it does not <v Speaker 1>include digital on Nintendo platforms. Met An NFL twenty five <v Speaker 1>at number six, then Call of Duty Modern Warfare three <v Speaker 1>from twenty twenty three, FC twenty five at eight, then <v Speaker 1>Elden Ring at number nine, and EA Sports MVP Bundle <v Speaker 1>at number ten. That's the one that has both Madden <v Speaker 1>and EA Sports College Football in it. So yeah, it's <v Speaker 1>see here. Oh yeah, lest yeah, Okay, that's that's right. <v Speaker 1>There's there's some more on here. You know, if you <v Speaker 1>look at this chart, there's twenty games in total. The <v Speaker 1>rest is like stuff like Hogwarts, Legacy, WWE two K <v Speaker 1>twenty four, Grand Theft, Auto five, Minecraft. Almost half of <v Speaker 1>this list about seven I think it's seven games are <v Speaker 1>games that did not come out in twenty twenty four, <v Speaker 1>and then the newer games that did come out, most <v Speaker 1>of them are very recognizable, and then they're you know, <v Speaker 1>ees sports college footall. It's like, okay, well we haven't <v Speaker 1>had that in a while, but you know, another sports <v Speaker 1>game appealing to that same audience. And then Dragon Ball <v Speaker 1>Sparkins zero maybe the most surprising one on here other <v Speaker 1>than Hell Divers two. So it's like, yeah, okay, some <v Speaker 1>games can break the seal, it seems like, and break <v Speaker 1>through and find an audio. But if you're not one <v Speaker 1>of those, if you are just an eighty out of <v Speaker 1>one hundred on Metacritic, you are probably struggling to get <v Speaker 1>into the top twenty best selling games of the year. <v Speaker 1>And all these games seem to have budgets that maybe <v Speaker 1>demand they get into the top twenty best selling games <v Speaker 1>of the year. I don't know Mark Doom and Gloom <v Speaker 1>left and right here, but that's kind of continuing to <v Speaker 1>be how I feel. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean it feels like, I mean this has <v Speaker 2>been a problem that's been brewing for years at this point, right, <v Speaker 2>But this idea of like, if a game isn't a <v Speaker 2>blockbuster success, it's a failure because budgets are so high, <v Speaker 2>and so now you have companies like Copcom like looking <v Speaker 2>into ways of dealing with those budgets by doing things <v Speaker 2>like I don't know, looking into AI, which is that <v Speaker 2>an incredibly short sighted decision maybe, But I think you're <v Speaker 2>starting to see developers that are in publishers be aware <v Speaker 2>of this, and it is a huge problem, right because <v Speaker 2>like there should be room for these mid level successes <v Speaker 2>or games that do well but aren't doing superlatively well. Right, <v Speaker 2>But just because budgets have swollen so much, it's like <v Speaker 2>the blockbuster movie problem, right of if a movie doesn't <v Speaker 2>make an insane amount of money, then it's a failure. <v Speaker 2>And that to me is like a pretty bad place <v Speaker 2>to be in for a creative industry. <v Speaker 1>Yep. And it's you know, movies had that burst of <v Speaker 1>growth when they were able to get China on board <v Speaker 1>there for a little while, but that's become a little <v Speaker 1>bit more difficult in recent years, and so now they've <v Speaker 1>kind of pulled back and not exactly sure where the <v Speaker 1>rest of the money is going to come from going forward. <v Speaker 1>And the video games has have like ten problems that <v Speaker 1>are similar to that, where it's like, oh, we've tapped <v Speaker 1>out battle passes, we tapped out micro transactions, we tapped <v Speaker 1>out free to play market. Everyone has a game already, <v Speaker 1>So yeah, it'll break. Eventually, something new will come along <v Speaker 1>and disrupt the industry. That's kind of the one constant. <v Speaker 1>But in this moment, we are in some doldrums. It <v Speaker 1>feels like, yeah, absolutely, let's take a quick break. When <v Speaker 1>we come back, we'll get through a few more financial stories, <v Speaker 1>and then we'll talk about some previews for Assassin's Creed <v Speaker 1>and what is going on with that next Resident Evil remake. <v Speaker 1>Right after this, all right, we are back. Yeah, let's <v Speaker 1>get back into it. With EA lost six billion dollars <v Speaker 1>in market value following FC twenty five and Dragon Age <v Speaker 1>under performance. News is from Andy Robinson at VGC. EA <v Speaker 1>shares declined by more than sixteen percent this week, or <v Speaker 1>six billion dollars in market value, following its pre earnings <v Speaker 1>announcement that Football Club twenty five and dragon ATE's The <v Speaker 1>Vailguard both failed to meet their expectations. On Wednesday, EA <v Speaker 1>warned the market that it now expects a decline in <v Speaker 1>its live service revenue for its current fiscal year, after <v Speaker 1>previously forecasting growth. Primarily, the decline was attributed to FC <v Speaker 1>twenty five slow down during the Christmas period. And that <v Speaker 1>really is the bigger thing that the market is concerned about. <v Speaker 1>Is service. Is EA's bread and butter. They are. They <v Speaker 1>thought they would have growth, they've actually shrunk. That's that's <v Speaker 1>going to be the thing that does scare investors to <v Speaker 1>the tune of six billion dollars not not you know, <v Speaker 1>as for as much as people with nerds were looking <v Speaker 1>forward to it, and I was like, oh man, dragon <v Speaker 1>Age the Veil Guard sounds like it could turn out <v Speaker 1>to be pretty good. It seems like it turned out <v Speaker 1>pretty okay. Uh, investors are not so worried about that <v Speaker 1>one missing the target, but that one all, it didn't help. <v Speaker 1>It doesn't help that they don't have something to fall <v Speaker 1>back to outside of their very successful live service games. <v Speaker 1>How do you feel about the position that a company <v Speaker 1>like EA is in at like right now? <v Speaker 2>God, I mean the FC thing I think really, like <v Speaker 2>you say, is the bigger issue, right, but it's not <v Speaker 2>as flashy of a story. And you know you mentioned <v Speaker 2>screaming YouTubers before, and so I think the narrative here <v Speaker 2>is that a lot of people are trying to run <v Speaker 2>with is well veil guard, you know, now it's broken <v Speaker 2>exactly Therefore, air Go, Air Go, the EA is going broke. <v Speaker 2>And it's true, Vilgara did like, you know, not well <v Speaker 2>compared to something like Inquisition, which I think a few <v Speaker 2>like in twenty eighteen was like the best selling buyer <v Speaker 2>game ever and did like twelve million dollars or something <v Speaker 2>at one point kild million copies. Yeah, so yeah, it's <v Speaker 2>a pretty big disappointment compared to that. But like yeah, <v Speaker 2>it's this is you know, a kind of prestige single <v Speaker 2>player title release that is like not the main story really, <v Speaker 2>but it is like kind of a convenient tarket. <v Speaker 1>I guess, do you think, because they have not done <v Speaker 1>the call with investors yet, do you think that they <v Speaker 1>make gestures towards like throwing that game under the bus. <v Speaker 2>I don't want to speculate, but it's possible, like you know, <v Speaker 2>it could be a move to say oh well, you <v Speaker 2>know this, we we misjudged the cultural market right now. <v Speaker 2>But really, like the FC thing is like that is <v Speaker 2>just kind of a huge deal. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, and I think like Veilguard's problems like are very <v Speaker 1>clearly like it came out after Bolder's Gate three. People want, right, Yeah, <v Speaker 1>they want systems. They want a game that they can <v Speaker 1>get around and mess with and and effect and dragon <v Speaker 1>ahe Veilguard for as much of a of a kind <v Speaker 1>of triumphus as it is because it's rescued a game <v Speaker 1>from becoming another live service piece of slop from EVA, <v Speaker 1>and they did a lot of work to fix that <v Speaker 1>and put out a game that is just this solid <v Speaker 1>single player experience. It is the polished game that like <v Speaker 1>does that has no rough edges and kind of no <v Speaker 1>space for players to create, and that is I mean, God, <v Speaker 1>look at it now, that's what gamers want. <v Speaker 2>Right, I mean God, Boulderskape three has just kind of <v Speaker 2>like warped the entire real playing game like genre at <v Speaker 2>this point. It's just reality is like shifting around it. <v Speaker 2>It's the black hole of like just the development of <v Speaker 2>game was so long and it just was the finished <v Speaker 2>product was so good and appealed to so many different <v Speaker 2>kinds of people that every game, every role playing game <v Speaker 2>that is like even anywhere near the CRPG genre, is <v Speaker 2>going to be getting compared to it at this point. <v Speaker 2>And so yeah, I think Vil Guard like really really <v Speaker 2>suffered for that. I also think just as a sequel <v Speaker 2>to a game that came out, you know, last decade, <v Speaker 2>just the interest maybe had flagged a little bit. Obviously, <v Speaker 2>there will always be Dragon Age psychos, and like I <v Speaker 2>know some of them and bless them, yep. But you know, <v Speaker 2>for me, when I played Inquisition, I was like, oh, <v Speaker 2>I can't wait to punch Solas. And then it finally happened, <v Speaker 2>like you know, years and years later, and I was like, <v Speaker 2>I kind of don't you know, I've I've made FeAs <v Speaker 2>with that. I don't. <v Speaker 1>I don't I've moved anymore, We've. <v Speaker 2>We've squashed the thief. So yeah, it's it is. It's <v Speaker 2>the Balders Gay three effect. And also I think just <v Speaker 2>like the fact that it took the development was so <v Speaker 2>long and were troubled. <v Speaker 1>Right yep. And then of course that means it was <v Speaker 1>more expensive, so expectations necess necessarily had to be higher. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>you said it though, as well. FC is the real <v Speaker 1>thing here, but also FC's financial performance feels like the weather, right, <v Speaker 1>how do you like that? How do you control that? <v Speaker 1>There is like that. There's so many people out there <v Speaker 1>that are are soccer fans that are engaged in FC's <v Speaker 1>you know, ultimate team, and you know how much can <v Speaker 1>EA really even control that? Yeah, you can put out <v Speaker 1>the best product possible, sure, but if interest wanes because <v Speaker 1>of some reason, like something else pops up that soccer <v Speaker 1>fans are paying attention to for a little bit, what <v Speaker 1>can you even It's so yeah, I don't know, I <v Speaker 1>don't know what they like. They're promising, Hey, we're going <v Speaker 1>to have another new update that's going to be even <v Speaker 1>better and that's going to fix all this going forward, <v Speaker 1>but they have to say that, so I wonder if <v Speaker 1>internally they're like, look, we don't know either. <v Speaker 2>Hard to say, yeah, yep, all. <v Speaker 1>Right, one last financial story, make this one quick. Donkey <v Speaker 1>Kong Country returns HD debuted at number one in Japan. <v Speaker 1>This for my Nintendo News mostly just wanted to bring <v Speaker 1>this up merit because Nintendo feels like the one company <v Speaker 1>that makes hardware and publishes games that still feels like <v Speaker 1>if the game does really well in Japan. We're happy. <v Speaker 1>Sony kind of like got too big for that to <v Speaker 1>be to satisfy them quite a while ago, which is <v Speaker 1>why they don't focus on Japan anymore. And really they <v Speaker 1>have not had success in Japan like Nintendo has had <v Speaker 1>over the last twenty years, so I don't blame them, <v Speaker 1>but Nintendo's like, hey, Splatoon is a cultural phenomenon in Japan. <v Speaker 1>We are all in on Splatoon going forward for the <v Speaker 1>rest of our existence. And I think like when they <v Speaker 1>see something like Donkey Kong Country Returns HD popping off <v Speaker 1>at number one on the charts, like a lot of <v Speaker 1>people buying it. I think it's yeah, more than one <v Speaker 1>hundred thousand copies sold on in the first week, which <v Speaker 1>is very good for especially a remaster of a game <v Speaker 1>that's sixty dollars that originally came out on the Wii. <v Speaker 1>Do you think that kind of lead like opens up <v Speaker 1>some opportunity for Nintendo to be a little bit more <v Speaker 1>interesting Because I'll tell you how I feel like I <v Speaker 1>don't ness, so I like it when a company's like <v Speaker 1>we're going to try to make a globally appealing game <v Speaker 1>or a game that appeals to the American market because <v Speaker 1>I think most companies have a low estimation of what <v Speaker 1>we can handle. And when I hear that, I'm like, oh, <v Speaker 1>you're just gonna again give us something very polished and simple, <v Speaker 1>and I want something weird and interesting. Not that Donkey <v Speaker 1>Kung Country returns is that weird and interesting? But do <v Speaker 1>you get what I'm putting down? <v Speaker 2>Absolutely? Yeah. It is this problem that I think also <v Speaker 2>we've seen in other cultural industries too, like with movies, right, yeah, <v Speaker 2>And in movies, there's this phenomenon where we get fewer <v Speaker 2>these like mid level like comedy movies that people loved <v Speaker 2>in the nineties and even into the two thousands, right, <v Speaker 2>And one reason for that is because big action movies <v Speaker 2>are easier to translate to different markets because they aren't <v Speaker 2>as reliant on subtle kinds of comedy that are rooted <v Speaker 2>in language or place or culture. So you can have <v Speaker 2>these big action movies with like superheroes and set pieces <v Speaker 2>and stuff that work well even you know, in different locales. <v Speaker 2>And I think it's true with games as well, Like <v Speaker 2>there's always going to be some stuff that appeals across <v Speaker 2>the board, right, which is is great, but chasing that <v Speaker 2>isn't necessarily the best way to make rium that is, <v Speaker 2>you know, that appeals to this kind of international audience. <v Speaker 2>So I think it is cool to have Nintendo, you know, <v Speaker 2>as much as I don't have that much interest in <v Speaker 2>playing Donkey Kong Country returns for the third time, to <v Speaker 2>have a company that is satisfied with a Japanese market performance, <v Speaker 2>I think is a good thing for the industry. <v Speaker 1>Agreed, That's exactly how I feel. Yes, so glad to <v Speaker 1>see this. You know, the rest of the charts, as <v Speaker 1>you know, a lot of familiar stuff. Super Mario Party <v Speaker 1>Jambree is still doing very well, Tales of Grace is <v Speaker 1>free mastered. People are like in that one, and then <v Speaker 1>the switch oh Led and the switch Light are the <v Speaker 1>best two selling pieces of hardware in Japan still. So <v Speaker 1>that's again just that's been pretty normal for the last <v Speaker 1>twenty years. Nintendo mostly dominates this chart, all right. An <v Speaker 1>insider and but kind of the insider her capcom as <v Speaker 1>mentioned that Resident Evil zero is the next remake from Capcom. <v Speaker 1>There's got a lot of whiplash on this one. We've <v Speaker 1>heard different possibilities again and again. This is from Jonas Mackie, <v Speaker 1>a game reactor. Since the release of Resident Evil three <v Speaker 1>remake five years ago, speculation has been rife about which <v Speaker 1>game in the series Capcom will remake next. We they <v Speaker 1>we did four after that? Uh. The one most people <v Speaker 1>seem to be clamoring for is Resident Evil Code Veronica, <v Speaker 1>the Dreamcast classic that is often considered one of the <v Speaker 1>one of its best installments in the series, but that <v Speaker 1>too few people have actually played. But after part three <v Speaker 1>came Resident Evil four. How there it is? And rumor <v Speaker 1>has it that Capcom is keen to take on Resident <v Speaker 1>Evil five next, a game that also offers co op, <v Speaker 1>which could be very interesting with today's technology. So which <v Speaker 1>one will it be? If we alre to believe the <v Speaker 1>often reliable insider Dusk Gullam, who has a particularly solid <v Speaker 1>track record for Capcom leaks, the answer is none of them. Instead, <v Speaker 1>he writes that zero is the next remake. Resivil zero <v Speaker 1>was the GameCube game that kind of came out after Residel, <v Speaker 1>the first Resident Evil one remake for the GameCube. It <v Speaker 1>took place on a train, It had start Rebecca. I <v Speaker 1>just kind of remember like, oh, yeah, Rebecca, she's that's <v Speaker 1>the kicked up Yeah Philly, Yeah, exactly. People don't love <v Speaker 1>that game. So maybe that is a good one to <v Speaker 1>actually give the remake treatment, because what they've done a <v Speaker 1>lot of times with these games is a ton of editing, <v Speaker 1>a ton of improvements, and maybe they can make restaval <v Speaker 1>zero kind of a game that people are more fond <v Speaker 1>of in the end. And honestly, this might be the <v Speaker 1>one I'm most interested in having remade, how about you? <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean, you know, I am one of those <v Speaker 2>people who would like to see cod Veronica from out. <v Speaker 1>Finally they have to do that, eventually, they. <v Speaker 2>Eventually, yes, but our zero has been it was remastered <v Speaker 2>I think, or it was on the Wii. It's part <v Speaker 2>of to the Wii. Then I think it was remastered <v Speaker 2>in like the mid twenty tens, and that you know, <v Speaker 2>those re releases didn't do super well because they didn't <v Speaker 2>really change that much. I mean, the game did well <v Speaker 2>when it came out on the GameCube, but like there <v Speaker 2>is maybe space to improve it or edit it, like <v Speaker 2>you say, so, I don't know. I mean it's cool, <v Speaker 2>like we're getting into some of like the weirder ones now. <v Speaker 2>I feel like that fewer people played, which I think <v Speaker 2>zero or Code Ronica would be great. Five would be <v Speaker 2>kind of surprising to me. Yeah, and I mean I <v Speaker 2>don't know. Zero also has the partner dynamics, so that <v Speaker 2>works as well as five in that respect. But yeah, <v Speaker 2>five would be God, what a different like time when <v Speaker 2>that game came out, and just like the sort of <v Speaker 2>arguments around that game and like, it just feels like, <v Speaker 2>I don't know, if Capcom went back to that, they <v Speaker 2>would have to do some thinking about how they were <v Speaker 2>going to present that game to modern audiences. <v Speaker 1>Yep, it was I ain't got Kroll. I remember had <v Speaker 1>that like kind of some criticisms of it was just like, hey, <v Speaker 1>let's talk about this, and people just could not handle it. <v Speaker 1>They could not handle that we were going to have <v Speaker 1>this discussion about the present presentation of black people from <v Speaker 1>Africa in a video game. And uh yeah, I don't <v Speaker 1>think we've matured enough to have that conversation yet still <v Speaker 1>so in fact, in many ways, it would be much <v Speaker 1>worse this time around. So, yeah, have. <v Speaker 2>Some social media oparatus that we do now back then, Yes. <v Speaker 1>And the one that could be wielded against anyone that <v Speaker 1>does try to do an end Guy Coroll. Yeah, so yeah, <v Speaker 1>I agree that that would be one that I would <v Speaker 1>be very interested to see how they try to thread <v Speaker 1>that needle. In the meantime, though, Code Veronica and Resival zero, Yeah, <v Speaker 1>let's let's let's get those ones done. And really, Receival <v Speaker 1>five was an HD game to begin with. That, not <v Speaker 1>that that stop would stop them. They've not remade an <v Speaker 1>HD one yet, so and it's like, you know those games, <v Speaker 1>And for example of Receival six, they're re releasing that <v Speaker 1>yet again with an apparently with an updated version for <v Speaker 1>Xbox Series X and S and PlayStation five, and that <v Speaker 1>game is already playable in those systems with PS four <v Speaker 1>and Xbox one version. So maybe that's what they'll just <v Speaker 1>do with five and six, which I personally think is <v Speaker 1>the right move. But you know, Capcom has a remake <v Speaker 1>like machine, and once it runs out of stuff, it's <v Speaker 1>gonna probably it's gonna turn its eyes to that eventually, <v Speaker 1>so we'll see how that works. But like Capcom just <v Speaker 1>continues to be on a roll, and I would really <v Speaker 1>like to see either Code Veronic or zero absolutely all right, Hang, <v Speaker 1>I lost my place, the loot guy, I've lost this page. <v Speaker 1>Let me scroll down here. Okay, there we are. Assassin's <v Speaker 1>Creed Shadows might be able to do the impossible and <v Speaker 1>satisfy all fans. This is from zax Yz and Kataku, <v Speaker 1>but really a bunch of previews came out. A lot <v Speaker 1>of people had a chance to play this. They either <v Speaker 1>went to an event or they did the Parsec preview <v Speaker 1>over the you know, streaming it over the cloud, and <v Speaker 1>kind of you know, kind of universally, people seem pretty <v Speaker 1>positive on it. They seem pretty happy with it. The <v Speaker 1>footage I saw Merritt that that kind of got me <v Speaker 1>was the world does look really nice, looks really vibrant <v Speaker 1>and alive, really good animations to to you know, foliage <v Speaker 1>and you know, you're going past a rice patty and <v Speaker 1>the birds fly out of the water as you're stepping <v Speaker 1>stepping by, and it just looks very visually appealing. That's <v Speaker 1>and I think that's a good start, you know. But <v Speaker 1>also we've had a couple of maybe a series of <v Speaker 1>games here recently, maybe Drag, you know, Dragon Hbing one <v Speaker 1>of them, where positive previews come out and then the <v Speaker 1>reviews come out after that and they're a little bit <v Speaker 1>below where the previews were at. I think maybe companies <v Speaker 1>are just getting very good at choosing what to show <v Speaker 1>to the press and to influencers, but maybe I don't <v Speaker 1>want to be skeptical either. I'm like, I want Assassin's <v Speaker 1>Great Shadows to be good. So how are you feeling <v Speaker 1>about it after seeing some positive word about the game. <v Speaker 2>I'll be honest, I have not played an Assassin's Creed <v Speaker 2>game in a minute. <v Speaker 1>I mean, you're not a lot of people people, yeah, fatigued, right. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's just become like it, you know, an annualized <v Speaker 2>franchise at this point, and it's like kind of tough <v Speaker 2>to keep up with. So it's interesting that they're doing this, <v Speaker 2>like you know, dual character kind of system where there's <v Speaker 2>like a character who is more stealthy and one who <v Speaker 2>is a little more like combat heavy. I don't know. <v Speaker 2>I mean it would be cool to have an Assassin's <v Speaker 2>Creed game that was like, like critically really well received. <v Speaker 2>I think that would be great. I don't know. It's <v Speaker 2>like there is I think this trend of people like <v Speaker 2>you mentioned earlier, like people callings to Ubisoft slap right, <v Speaker 2>and it's like I don't want, you know, I don't <v Speaker 2>want that games to come out, Like I don't want <v Speaker 2>Like it would be great if a far Cry game <v Speaker 2>was amazing, it would be great if an if Assassin's <v Speaker 2>Creed Shadows was amazing, that would be awesome. So I <v Speaker 2>guess I'm going to keep an eye on it and <v Speaker 2>like hope for the best. <v Speaker 1>I just. <v Speaker 2>It's just been so long for me that I'm like, <v Speaker 2>I don't know, but I think you have to hold <v Speaker 2>out hope or at least like not wish for things <v Speaker 2>like this to fail. <v Speaker 1>Right, Yeah, yes, and there's no because I do see <v Speaker 1>the people that wish for games like this to fail. <v Speaker 1>They all seem miserable. So yeah, I'm going to try <v Speaker 1>to avoid that where possible, absolutely, and really, like, you know, again, <v Speaker 1>someone to chat mentioned if this game was just called Shadows, <v Speaker 1>if we have the Assassin's Creed wasn't attached to it, <v Speaker 1>it'd be a lot easier to get excited about it. <v Speaker 1>I'm like, yeah, that's a really good point. That is <v Speaker 1>definitely where I'm at. Where the Assassin's Creed part is <v Speaker 1>actually a drag on this the. <v Speaker 2>Name, Yeah, it does have this exhausting effect at this point. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, but yeah, I mean basically, the previews say what <v Speaker 1>we have seen from the trailers that Yaske is a <v Speaker 1>traditional Assassin's Creed character that focuses on combat and that's <v Speaker 1>very fun. And then naowe is how I'm gonna say <v Speaker 1>it is more similar to like some of the assassins <v Speaker 1>from maybe Brotherhood and stuff like that, much more sneaky, <v Speaker 1>and that's also very fun. But the combination of the <v Speaker 1>two and be able to swamp back and forth depending <v Speaker 1>on like what a mission calls for is very satisfying. <v Speaker 1>So well, you know, cool, good setup. Let's see if <v Speaker 1>they can execute throughout a whole game. I you know, <v Speaker 1>this one's coming out in March now, Monster Hunter Wilds <v Speaker 1>will already be out. There will be several SIB seven <v Speaker 1>will be out, plenty of stuff to take up my time. <v Speaker 1>We'll see. I want to play this game, and then <v Speaker 1>I want to like it enough to keep playing it <v Speaker 1>after that. But we will see. All right, last couple <v Speaker 1>of stories here. Bloodborne is now very playable on PC <v Speaker 1>via PS four emulation. Chris Grant came out of his <v Speaker 1>editor hole at Polygond to write a story about this. <v Speaker 1>He said, Digital Founderies Thomas Morgan has done his hunter's <v Speaker 1>hat and taken up his trusty trick weapon. Welcome viewers. <v Speaker 1>Three buttery smooth sixty frames per second. Trip to old <v Speaker 1>yarnhum all thanks to not Sony but instead to thanks <v Speaker 1>to emulators. Basically, this has been popping up more and <v Speaker 1>more recently that people are finding, hey, the work has <v Speaker 1>been done, and if you have a beefy enough rig, <v Speaker 1>you can actually begin emulating Bloodborne on a PS four <v Speaker 1>emulator that will run the game at sixty frames per <v Speaker 1>second in a way that you could not, of course, <v Speaker 1>could not do on PS four. Natively, this is it's <v Speaker 1>been a long time coming for a while. There people <v Speaker 1>are like, yeah, you can run it on on PC <v Speaker 1>at one frame per second, And now now you know, hey, <v Speaker 1>it seems like we're here and it's only going to <v Speaker 1>get more performance over time, so people on less powerful <v Speaker 1>graphics cards will get to be we'll be able to <v Speaker 1>join the party soon. But for now, it's like, hey, <v Speaker 1>if you have a forty eighty forty ninety, you're set <v Speaker 1>go in there and hop in. And I'm like, okay, <v Speaker 1>I might do that. I think this is what Bloodborne <v Speaker 1>fans should be looking toward, Merrek, because I just I <v Speaker 1>don't think it's going to be happening from Sony and <v Speaker 1>from from anytime soon. It's definitely not happening now, right. <v Speaker 2>Right, I mean, yeah, Yoshida was saying that his theory <v Speaker 2>was like that the Miyazaki just you know, holds Bloodborne <v Speaker 2>so dearer, yeah, and that he is just so busy <v Speaker 2>but doesn't want to let anyone else take it, right, <v Speaker 2>And so the PlayStation team so far has basically said <v Speaker 2>like five, like that's cool, Like that's all right, We're <v Speaker 2>not going to give it to someone else, which I get, <v Speaker 2>and like that's you know, probably for the bat, but <v Speaker 2>also like come on, like come on, Bloodborne is you know, <v Speaker 2>as someone who played that game late, and you know, <v Speaker 2>I bounced up Blaboorne the first time I played it. <v Speaker 2>I bounced off the Dark Soul's games the first time <v Speaker 2>I played them, and then I streamed all of them <v Speaker 2>a few years ago at Fanbite and just like fell <v Speaker 2>in love with those games. And Bloodborne is such like <v Speaker 2>it's you know, cliche to say at this point, but <v Speaker 2>it's like such a masterpiece. It's just it realizes what <v Speaker 2>if England was real? And it's horrifying, yes, but that's <v Speaker 2>scary you just saying it. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, thank you, <v Speaker 2>but yeah, it's you know, and the fact that it <v Speaker 2>is still kind of like stuck on that console is <v Speaker 2>is tough. So if you know, if you're able to <v Speaker 2>play through this like then definitely I think try to <v Speaker 2>because it's like an incredible game. And also yeah, like <v Speaker 2>at sixty prince per second, like the. <v Speaker 1>That's cool. Yep, that's uh. I mean, I am a <v Speaker 1>frame rate snob, so for me, i'd tell you, yeah, <v Speaker 1>that's fantastic. I'm hopping in yeah and shue, hey, yoshit <v Speaker 1>is right, He's right. That's what I've always heard, yeah, <v Speaker 1>and at least partially right for and for a long time, <v Speaker 1>that was what everyone was saying that I talked to, <v Speaker 1>was they want to be involved when something happens a <v Speaker 1>bloom board, and also they are too busy to be <v Speaker 1>involved with blooboard right now. It's like, oh okay, it's <v Speaker 1>it's that simple. And then there's definitely some weirdness on <v Speaker 1>the sony side. And I describe it that way because <v Speaker 1>that's how it was explained to me, and that the <v Speaker 1>person that told me that would not tell me what <v Speaker 1>that weirdness is. So that's my full transparency there. I <v Speaker 1>don't know what the weirdness is, but apparently there's some weirdness, <v Speaker 1>all right, let's see Nintendo switch to announcement beforely impacted <v Speaker 1>steam Deck sales. Yeah, I mean we're at the point <v Speaker 1>where steam Deck is pretty old at this point, people <v Speaker 1>probably you know, for a PC for what is essentially <v Speaker 1>a laptop that you could hold in your hands to <v Speaker 1>play games on. Uh, and so that that's naturally gonna happen, <v Speaker 1>and something new and kind of in that same space <v Speaker 1>that really has dominated that space. Getting a sequel was <v Speaker 1>always going to do that. But you know, I think <v Speaker 1>Valve probably isn't too worried about this. We'll have a <v Speaker 1>steam Deck two and that space will continue to grow <v Speaker 1>alongside whatever happens with the switch to. <v Speaker 2>Right, Yeah, I think so. I mean, it feels like <v Speaker 2>they're targeting different markets in a lot of ways. And <v Speaker 2>I don't know, I've been thinking about this lately, like <v Speaker 2>do you think we're just moving towards Nintendo being sort <v Speaker 2>of the like console and publisher and developer company and <v Speaker 2>then having like just. <v Speaker 1>Lost you again. All right, We're gonna get it back <v Speaker 1>here in a second, the same Merritt we lost Merritt, <v Speaker 1>we lost you again. You you cut out right right <v Speaker 1>when you were saying that. Do you we think it's <v Speaker 1>going to maybe the developer publisher and then and then <v Speaker 1>cut off that. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, do you think like we're going to be moving <v Speaker 2>towards having Nintendo being sort of the only company left <v Speaker 2>doing this console publisher developer thing and then just having <v Speaker 2>a Steam Deck and other kind of like consoleized PCs. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean that's I mean, that's definitely the broad <v Speaker 1>strokes kind of what is happening. Yeah, where, okay, where <v Speaker 1>how do people want to play the kinds of games <v Speaker 1>that we're talking about on a show like this, right <v Speaker 1>a very convenient way. Switch kind of set out what <v Speaker 1>that looks like. And now the steam Deck is proving <v Speaker 1>there's a lot of people who want to play their <v Speaker 1>PC games that way as well. And really, if you <v Speaker 1>can get your PS PlayStation and Xbox games on there, <v Speaker 1>we'll take them, please, and we're going to play them here. <v Speaker 1>Uh god, that's what's happened to me, Switch and my <v Speaker 1>Steam Deck. I'll stream my PS five games to my <v Speaker 1>Steam Deck and that's the way I play them. So yeah, <v Speaker 1>I think so, And really that is it also just <v Speaker 1>speaks to uh people, Yeah, they want games that are <v Speaker 1>big and impressive, and but they want to have they <v Speaker 1>are used to having a personalized relationship with them, like <v Speaker 1>holding them on a device in their hands. And if <v Speaker 1>you can show them a similar thing and it looks <v Speaker 1>like a Steam Decker, looks like a switch, they might <v Speaker 1>actually be willing to hop into that, especially if you say, <v Speaker 1>look how cheap these games are on Steam sales. Not <v Speaker 1>that Steam Deck is sold, you know, tens of millions <v Speaker 1>of units or something like that. But you know, the <v Speaker 1>you know, PlayStation five, while it is outperforming the PS four, <v Speaker 1>it's another little tibet that came out of MATS thing <v Speaker 1>today it is not doing so at a pace that <v Speaker 1>offsets the rising cost of developing those games. So Sony <v Speaker 1>necessarily has to look elsewhere outside of its console to <v Speaker 1>make money back on the games it's making, and that <v Speaker 1>just naturally leads to what you've described. I think so yeah, <v Speaker 1>I think you're right. And then meanwhile, Nintendo not feeling <v Speaker 1>those pressures because they put out the best selling, the <v Speaker 1>two best selling zeldas on their last platform by an <v Speaker 1>order of magnitude greater than it's ever done before, and <v Speaker 1>Animal Crossing is now a fifty million selling franchise on <v Speaker 1>one system and Mario Kart, but mari Ka has did <v Speaker 1>very well many times before, but even better now. So <v Speaker 1>like they're the one console manufacturer that can put out <v Speaker 1>a game that can sell thirty to fifty million copies, <v Speaker 1>which is actually more than enough to continue justifying doing <v Speaker 1>things the way they're doing. So yeah, I think that <v Speaker 1>is exactly what's gonna happen. Marrett. Yeah, all right, we <v Speaker 1>got a poll question from yesterday. Let's get to it <v Speaker 1>right now. There is here you go. You guys can <v Speaker 1>see it now. Do you think Insomniac's Wolverine releases in <v Speaker 1>twenty twenty five? Most people are skeptical eighty four percent, <v Speaker 1>sixteen percent say yes. Now, it's worth pointing out that <v Speaker 1>those leagues did mention Wolverine with a date twenty twenty <v Speaker 1>six many times. But maybe one reason to think it <v Speaker 1>could have got moved up is it seems like that <v Speaker 1>Venom game that they were gonna put out in twenty <v Speaker 1>twenty five might not happen now, And if you know, <v Speaker 1>they're definitely not working on the multiplayer Spider Man thing <v Speaker 1>that was coming out around the same time as well, <v Speaker 1>So excuse me, maybe they were like, hey, let's scrap <v Speaker 1>those things so we can get Wolverine done. Faster. That's <v Speaker 1>the one possibility. And the new one of the new <v Speaker 1>co presidents of Insomniac this week after after taking over <v Speaker 1>from Ted Price, it was Coy about this question would <v Speaker 1>not confirm or deny the game coming out in twenty <v Speaker 1>twenty five, So it's like, I mean, maybe they have <v Speaker 1>some big event planned where they know exactly how they're <v Speaker 1>going to message that, and he didn't want to ruin that. <v Speaker 1>He could still easily say twenty twenty six to that <v Speaker 1>at that point, but I think there's a possibility. What <v Speaker 1>do you think? <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean, I don't know twenty twenty six, like <v Speaker 2>was I feel like I heard about this game years <v Speaker 2>ago and then just have not heard anything since then, <v Speaker 2>And I guess I don't know. Maybe the Wolverine Deadpool <v Speaker 2>movie will still have kept that character relevant enough to <v Speaker 2>twenty twenty six, but like that's like the first time <v Speaker 2>you know that Wolverine has been back in anything in <v Speaker 2>a while, and I think it did like bring back <v Speaker 2>a lot of good will and like a lot of <v Speaker 2>interest in him, But it's for that not to come <v Speaker 2>out until next year. I mean, I'm sure it'll be <v Speaker 2>a great game, It's Insomniac, but just yeah, I guess <v Speaker 2>it wouldn't surprise me if it came out later this year, <v Speaker 2>if they pushed that up. <v Speaker 1>Yep, I think there's a chance. I did vote no. <v Speaker 1>As people could see here, it's more than likely going <v Speaker 1>to be twenty twenty six. But I think again, I <v Speaker 1>think there's a chance. All right, new poll question. We'll <v Speaker 1>get to it here in a second. Before we do that, though, merit, <v Speaker 1>what do you have going on? Where can people find <v Speaker 1>you on the internet if that's something you want them <v Speaker 1>to do? All that kind stuff. Yeah? <v Speaker 2>God, yeah, So I put out a game called Fledgling <v Speaker 2>Manor recently with a small development team called In Secret <v Speaker 2>Places that I started with a couple of my friends, <v Speaker 2>and it's on Steam. The game is again called Fledgling Manor. <v Speaker 2>It's it's a visual novel about a vampire reality show <v Speaker 2>that's kind of like Big Brother, except the contestants are <v Speaker 2>killed when they're voted off. So people have liked it <v Speaker 2>so far. It has a one positive rating on Steam, <v Speaker 2>which is pretty cool. So you know, if you think <v Speaker 2>you might not like it, and bring that down a <v Speaker 2>little bit, and they give it a little more philossophal <v Speaker 2>than be my guests, But but yeah, that's you know, <v Speaker 2>it's people have really enjoyed that so far. If you <v Speaker 2>like visual novels or kind of lower key experiences, it's fun. <v Speaker 2>It runs great on steam Deck. They haven't verified it yet, <v Speaker 2>but we're the bad boys of steam Decks, so it's fine. <v Speaker 2>And yeah, I'm I'm mostly only on Blue Sky these days. <v Speaker 2>I'm at merrikkay dot com on there, not so much <v Speaker 2>on Twitter lately. I still have a Twitter account, but <v Speaker 2>I just haven't really been using it. <v Speaker 1>But same, Yeah, excellent. Yeah, and for people watching live, <v Speaker 1>Marino did put a link to Fledgling Manner right there <v Speaker 1>in chat, so thank you. Check it out everybody. We'll <v Speaker 1>see if we can get a link into the description <v Speaker 1>as well. But yeah, congratulations on that. That's very awesome. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, thanks, it was a really fun project. <v Speaker 1>New Pole question, are you excited for Assassin's Creed Shadows <v Speaker 1>after the positive previews? Are more excited? I should say <v Speaker 1>yes or no. We'll get the results of that on <v Speaker 1>games Mornings here on Giant Bomb. Not tomorrow on Monday. <v Speaker 1>Let's go take some days off get that on Monday. <v Speaker 1>Speaking a Giant Bomb, today, we will be doing the <v Speaker 1>BCR episode where we are going to do our Fantasy <v Speaker 1>Critic draft, so it should be a nice lengthy one <v Speaker 1>where we all try to outsmart one another and then <v Speaker 1>half of us stopped playing for most of the year, <v Speaker 1>and then remember that there's a Fantasy critic at the <v Speaker 1>end and try to catch up. But it'll be a <v Speaker 1>good time tune in for that. Time is sketchy because <v Speaker 1>I got to run and go do something, and we'll <v Speaker 1>start when I get back. I'm thinking like one thirty <v Speaker 1>pm Eastern. But we'll see. I'll start to be a <v Speaker 1>problem to everybody else because we're right, we all have <v Speaker 1>to get to get together to do this, and of <v Speaker 1>course then last minute something happens with me. But we'll <v Speaker 1>get it done today everybody, and then afterwards, if we <v Speaker 1>have time, I might just like do like a quick <v Speaker 1>upf myself. After that, maybe see if anyone wants to <v Speaker 1>hang out and do something, but it'll be later in <v Speaker 1>the afternoon, maybe around like four or something like that. <v Speaker 1>All right, let's wrap things up. Merret. Thank you so <v Speaker 1>much for hanging out with me today and talk about <v Speaker 1>video games. I really appreciate it. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's always great to be here. <v Speaker 1>Thanks for having me absolutely anytime. Thank you all for <v Speaker 1>watching and listening. You are the best audience in gaming. <v Speaker 1>Until next time, have a good one, take care of <v Speaker 1>yourself and goodbye.
