M m, guys, I have alarming news. This is the last Giant BombCast in September. Okay, that's uh. Are you okay with this? It's everybody? Yeah, Jeff Gersmon, I think I'll be all right with it. Brad predictable news really Dan record? Yeah, yeah, I'm okay. You're gonna be all right. Yeah, always, you're gonna find a way of soldier on. Yes, if we don't record another podcast in September, true Scandling, I mean, I don't know what year it is. Let alone, I'm brad shrew mixed. Though it's the Giant BombCast. I will be recording another podcast. Oh yeah, yeah you still I'll why listening to it. It's a Perry podcast job. I'm not got about farming on raising your podcast tanks are not yet empty? No, got some more talking juice and there. How how is f one going better? Yeah? What do you mean better? Like? What was the baseline? Was? Why it was? It? Was it bad because like one team was super dominant, so it was just boring. Yes, this this season has been a little more competitive, a little a little bit. Hang on, let me guess vettel pat so he's he is? Yes, Yeah, he's the underdog now not the underdog, but you're rooting for him to take over. I thought he was the guy the guys. He was the guy last season. I thought he was like he was the guy two seasons he thought he was Michael Jordan or something. That's Oh, that's not a dynasty thing as it just comes and goes. So he was the guy when he was on the Red bull team, but then when he switched to Ferrari the Red Bulls team, and and Ferrari started sucking and Mercedes started doing really good. So the Mercedes is totally dominant, but uh, Ferrari's now coming back, So now I'm rooting for Sebastian Pedals. So success is ephemeral in the wild and wooly world of F one, is what you're saying. Yes, man, that sounds sort of exciting. And last race big upset. Yeah, oh yeah, are you still getting up at like three in the morning or whatever? DVR man? Okay, yeah, I'm not a crazy person. You have a DVR man, like a man that comes in at sets your DVR. Yes, that's smart. Man. Does he wear does he wear a tuxedo? A white gloves? Seriously? Just like holding a little tin tray. Get up and just go straight to the race, like you can't look at Twitter right somebody might be talking about that's true. Yeah, yeah, I get up and play it right away. Don't get to feel the excitement. It's the only reason I have cable. That's that's an expensive habit. Yes, I would think. Yes, I have to imagine there is no currently ala hart w E network style thing. Also, the w W E network doesn't do what. You can't watch the w Yeah, you can't watch the weekly show. Okay, there's no MLB TV for Yeah, there you go. I have to imagine the cheapest cable package that gets you F one is not cheap. It's it's not it's like the Digital Extreme or whatever. That's the that's rough NBC Sports Network. Okay, all right then, yeah, there's your F one minute, one minute, there's your there's your little free taste at all to one. We don't have that. You are, no, you should work on that. You maybe get that. Yeah, what is going on? I am very tired. Video games are out and I've been staying up way too late playing them. Uh yeah, somebody I've been kind of somebody come over your nose doing something similar hang on and Dan, I'm sort of like, no, it's there you go, there you go? Whoa smacking myself in the face? Was that with that? Okay? I thought that was some mel Hello, what's I thought? You're hitting the bottom of a Snapple bottle? Yeah? Yeah, I can do that too. What's going on? Not much? I don't know what is new in your world? Nothing? Nothing, Zip Zillman, There's gotta be something. I'm just hit two hundred and ninety one light. I was trying to stall before we got to that. Yeah, no, it's I don't know. It's uh like I'm waiting for some games to show up. Yeah, like Tony Hawk will be out by the time this this podcast goes up, which we should note that we conspicuously do not have as of well eight hours. It's an online game, and the experience would be uh not the same if they sent out copies prior to release, you know, like Tony Hawk's always been online. Mainly, this is different than that. This this is apparently different than that. It's not just actually supposed to be. I believe it is more of a constant connection, like you play most of this game connected. Why what does that add to the game from what you've heard, I don't know. I don't know. I haven't seen the game in person like i've been. I haven't seen that much about this game, some dark soul thing where you can like go into someone else's game and push them off a rail or something. So so when telling you that you needed to be online to get the full experience, they didn't actually tell you what full experience is. I have not been following their like trailers and stuff super closely, so I don't actually know. How do you feel about the prospect of Tony Hawk five. I hope it's amazing. Okay, Well, we hope that of every game I want, well, I want Tony Hawk to be back in a big way. I would love for there to be a great skateboarding game, and to you know, I would love to play a fresh, new Tony Hawk game. And I hope that this duplicates some or has a new take, an interesting new take, a good new take on that kind of concept. I just don't know. Yeah, have they said what elements as far as like the manuals and the reverts and all that stuff. Have they said what is and isn't part of five? Probably. I assume it's the full you know, you wouldn't make a game without reverts and manuals, right, But then like they added sillier stuff later on where it's stick or slaps and there. Well, yeah, I don't know if that's in there. I know that they have like grinds and specials that are ridiculous. Okay, so like there's that sort of stuff for pizza box. I don't know if that specifically is in there, of that type of stuff. Uh, yeah, I did it did it was that was early on, but not that early on. That was like three or four up. They just started having specials in it that didn't make any sense. I mean, they made a lot of Tony Hawk games. They kind of had to come up with a lot of materials. Yeah, five of them, yea four and to date as of today, right, I mean yeah, I know, I know this is well Warren territory at this point, but they are kind of setting some big expectations by calling this Tony Hawk five, right and charging sixty dollars for it? Right, Yeah, it's it's a full priced retail game. I mean, we don't know for a fact at this point that that's unjustified, but we don't. I hope it comes together, but it's one of those things that like, you know, like I look at the trailers, I don't think it looks amazing, but it looks okay. I don't know, like people are really people are watching those trailers and going just looks like fucking garbage, and like, you know, like it doesn't look incredible, but it at some point it looks like Tony Hawk. The larger thing is I look at like, you know, hey, here's some gameplay footage and it's just the level that they keep showing or some of the stuff that it's like largely empty, and then there's just a bunch of skaters in it, and it's like that's not I don't want like wide open spaces between everything in a Tony Hawk level like skaters or no. No, it's all like on wine. Yeah, people people like chained together like a ton of different crazy things from like lip to lip to grind and everything not a big open I want a lot of stuff to work with, you know. And and the levels don't look like the environments don't look amazing. You don't look at them and go like, oh man, what's gonna happen here? How am I gonna start an earthquake? Am I gonna like make the volcano erupt? Erupt? I don't know, grind three rails, as it turns out, that's always always the answer. Start. But yeah, I don't know, Like it doesn't It doesn't look that great. Didn't they pull a Borderlands and kind of insert some like late scene. I heard something about that. That's it looks like halfway at a cell shaded or something. I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, I'm I'm incredibly curious about how this thing is going to turn out, because it seemed this seems like the sort of thing that like either there's no middle ground for this. It's all or nothing. Either they successfully bring back the Tony Hawk franchise or it is done. They've got one shot. This is it. I mean, if you're calling it Tony Hawk's pro Skater five, Yeah right, you have you have, You've played your final. This is some like side pro. Oh, we just we thought we'd try something a little different. It's like, no, man, like we we tried that. This title means we try. You have thrown down the gauntlet with this. They made their HD thing, you know, they did the fake skateboard stuff. They you know, this this is them kind of coming back and saying like, let's make another one of those again and trying to play off that nostalgia kind of in a year that Activision is doing that with a lot of stuff, you know, like bringing back the Guitar Hero, bringing back Tony Hawk, like kind of going back to the well on all their old cash difference. I feel like there's some kind of push, like you can kind of tell which games Activision is getting behind. I think we talked about this last week that you know, like Guitar Hero seems like something that they're really pushing. You know, it's like it's gonna be on Apple TV and you know, iPhone and iPad all this other stuff. Tony Hawk just seems like it is sneaking out of a warehouse tonight. At some point. We aren't. We all surprised last week when I was like, oh shit, yeah, Tony Hawk's coming out next Yeah, that's like we are not super aware of this. In this line of work, it's never a good sign when we don't know that the game's days away from a release. Oh, I don't know. I think we've we've I know I don't keep as close tabs on the release as I what did we The people in this room are not nearly as diligent as as some people in this line of work, but still, like you know, like if it's been if it's been undermarketed to the point that it sneaks up on us like that to that extent, like that's not sure, great song, but yeah, I don't know, Like I I hope it's I'll buy it tonight, I guess, and preloaded or whatever. Today is to be clear Monday night, Monday, like people, people will be playing it by the time this podcast goes up. Theory, I mean people will have the option to play. That much is almost certain, assuming that it's functional. Yeah, here's the first thing I'm gonna try when I get it is I'm gonna do Benny Hannah and I'm gonna see if the timing is right, because that's the move I didn't a thousand times everyone did a billion times because it was like go down and right, and it's pretty at some point it was down and left and that never felt right, so you changed. I always moved it back now, yeah, because it was in the first one it was down and right and right. Yeah, and I did that the first time in the h D one. I was like, it's fucked. This whole game is fucked. Like if that that timing that I've done a thousand times, you know, is off, the whole experiences off for me, Like everything felt off on that where if it's supposed to be one and two, which anybody playing that game for the most part, if I played the ship out of that and if it doesn't feel like it, then what the fuck is it? And you know this will be available on platforms that have good D pads, Yeah, I think. Yeah, HD was coming out on the three sixty and that was not a great way to play it. Yeah, three, it wasn't good HD. Yeah, or do they put it out there? I don't think I thought it was was only on PS three and Xbox three sixty. Yeah, yeah, of course, of course, right, yes, yeah, I don't know. Man, We'll see how that comes out, we will. I'm curious. I'm incredibly curious. I would love nothing more than for Tony Ought to be back, but I just don't know that this is going to be the game. Like a lot of things, to be back sure doesn't necessarily mean They're going to come back, no no, and move on to downhill Jam after this. There you go right downhill Jam. Tweet you or you hold the game pads. Was Dave Mira up to these days? I don't know. Probably on a bike. Yeah, he's probably riding somewhere. It just like sleeps on a bike and probably eats on a bike. And why wouldn't you eat bikes at some point? Yeah? Uh yeah, So, I don't know, there's that. I've been playing around with Skylanders a little bit. Yes, uh. Stuff just coming out available now, especially in the Toys to Life category. It feels like everything is coming out. Everything is out now. They just they have not sent us Lego yet, but it is available. Do you know anything about that? I know that like everyone that shoots unboxing videos of toys got it last week, I see, I saw. I saw some kind of oblique tweets from some people that they led me to wonder if between between the tweets and the fact that we didn't get it, some reviews have been hitting and they've been positive. Really, so between the tweets, man, Yeah, uh so, so, I don't I don't know, Like I know, Warner can be weird. Sometimes about how they send their games out. But uh, yeah, there are some reviews out there that that seem I've seen some positive reviews. I don't know, all right, yeah, I don't know. I don't know that that's a game for me, but there are certainly like I want to see how they do portal in a Lego environment, you know, like recreating movies and stuff. Obviously it's super well worn territory for them. They've done the Star Wars, Yes, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, and now this will have a back to the future set, you know, and it has like Wizard of Oz gameplay and weird stuff in it. But yeah, specifically like the yeah, like some of the other weirder stuff in this thing, like how do they do a portal section? I thought they're Scooby Doo stuff looked pretty neat. Uh And I want to see what the midway thing is. Yeah, it seems like a weird one to just kind of backdoor in there. Yeah, like, hey, we own this stuff. Let's just as well. There's a Midway set for Lego dimensions like Lego Scorpion and no, so like Old Midway, Yeah, super Old Midway. Is it branded as Midway. That's how they're selling it, even though that company no longer exists. I guess the brand still means something to somebody. Kids love Midway of course, Lego narc guys. Yeah, yeah, it's Lego Nark guys. I think Supplier and Midway those are the that's what's burning up YouTube exactly. Yeah, so I it's it's I guess obviously you would jump to the conclusion that, like, dude, Lego Mortal Kombat would be the most amazing thing to say. I think we've been saying that for a while, haven't we. But I don't know, Like I had a couple of different people e. From Microsoft and a handful of others sell like actually, Lego has a policy that they do not work with any adult property period. Yeah, I could see if there was a watered down kid friendly version of it that they just don't want anything to do with it. So I assume that would you know, well, obviously this set does not have Mortal Kombat, so but I assume that actually precludes it from ever happening. As long as they have that Policy's shame. There's so much they can do, I know. Yeah, I don't know the parts like come apart as it is exactly to be pretty much all right there, It's all right, he's come right off. Yeah, chest pieces the heads are interchangeable for that matter. Yep. Think about the dumb sight gags Johnny cage up cuts the guy's head off and it lands on somebody else's neck. Yeah, great, would that be that? That that could be pretty cool. So I don't know, like I want to see that thing. At the same time, like the those Lego games have never done it for me, so it's sort of like it's more of an academic interest. Yeah, totally. Like I I used to be into those Lego games. I did enjoy them for a number of years, but they just at a certain point, you just reached saturation. Yeah, And the idea, the idea of like a portal plus figures doesn't necessarily like kind of you know, reinvigorate your interest. And this thing is like, you know, it kind of motions for you to like, hey, build your portal out of legos, And it's like, I guess you know, like that that's like not a creativity that I'm super interested in. You build the portal itself, like I figured, put the toys together, the portal is also made of Lego weird, so it's a portal that you can put the stuff on, but then also you can build a portal around it, and it's you know, but none of that changes anything in game. I think that's that's the part where it breaks for me, is like you can reformulate your little batmobile figure all you want, but when you put it on, it's still going to be one of three different types depending on how you've upgraded it. Let me tell you about Banjo KAZOOI, nuts and Bolts. Okay, all right, I love nuts and Bolts. There you go go on, Great, you can do exactly what you just said. Okay, and you can fly your weird stupid thing around and see if it doesn't work at all. Yeah, I think that's just play that instead. The whole point of Lego is assembling crazy stuff and having and having fun with that stuff. So having it be like like having it be like, hey, yeah, I mean I could put these Lego brand blocks onto this thing and build it into a fun arch or I could just not Like, I just I don't identify with Legos enough to care, So it's like sort of whatever. But I guess that's you know, that's the same for all these things. Uh yeah, Skylinders is vehicles this year. I don't think it's great. Is that the big thing? Yeah? What was it last year? Traps? You got team He's plastic? Yeah. Trap Team came out and it was these little plastic shards that you would put into the portal. There's a little hole on it and you could trap the bad guys in it and then you could redeploy the bad guys later as like power ups yuh with with if you had them trapped in the trap and that was not good. I mine just wasn't cool. I don't know. Like the whole thing is like I've got this toy. Look at this toy. I put this toy on the thing. Now it's in the game. Like, here's this plastic shard. I put it in here, and oh look now it's like they had to put a speaker on the portal so they could have sound coming out of it to be like, oh, it's like I'm trapping the guy. Like it would start on the TV. Then as you trapped him, the voice would transfer to the coming out of the portal, like it was like, oh look now he's in this thing right. My my impression of your impression of Skylanders is that it's kind of been, I hate to say, on the decline for a while. The fifth game, the last two I think have been maybe finishing returns, because it is the right way to put it, like they're kind of having to stretch the idea right to some extent. I think that every year they come up with a different gimmick and either you care, either you still care about Skylanders or you don't. I think there are probably still plenty of kids that do. But for me, like the first game I thought was really innovative and really just a fascinating thing. Yeah, just from how they sold it, from the game itself being not terrible, which you know, it's like when you think of kids games, you'd just like hit you over the head with just the most boring thing possible. But like this was actually like a decent little, you know, loop game almost and it was fun for what it was. And then Giants I thought was just too slow. That was the second one. That after that was Swap Force, which is a cool idea. You could separate the top halves and the bottom halves of these figures and mix and match them to have like mobility with different top half abilities, and that was cool, Like those toys look cool too, the little magnet dude, and that's kind of that's a way to manipulate the real world thing to change, yeah, exactly the thing that Lego sounds like it doesn't have. Yeah, And I thought that was that was pretty cool, just like from a tech thing of just like I'm gonna rip the top half off this dude and put it on this one and oh look now it's man, that's crazy. And then Trapped Team, I just I don't know. I couldn't get into Trapped Team at all. It just seemed dumb. And this one I don't like. The vehicles stuff is like most of it's optional because they there are air vehicles and sea vehicles, but the game only comes with a land vehicle. So the only stuff that would be on the critical path would be stuff with a land vehicle because they can guarantee that you'll always have one of those. And then you know, the optional paths require vehicles. So there's been people saying like, oh, it's nice that there are fewer toys required to buy to see everything, because they used to they used to lock the gates with elements, right, So it's like, oh, I need a ghost Skylander here, I need a tech Skylander here to even open this door and see this optional content. So my understanding is that the game doesn't have any of that, and I haven't seen any that from my time with it. Uh, it's just at some point it's just like, okay, like I get it. It's not it's nothing. It never was for me, but I thought there's something you could appreciate it about it. Yeah, totally. And I like some of their character designs. I think the one thing Skylanders does have going for is that like they're making their own people, making their own characters, and some of those are really cool. There's one in this one was Eye Colops. I don't know what it's called, but he's a big eye in a dive suit and he just launched his torpedoes out of this gun. And then his secondary ability is he opens the little door on the front of his dive suit and water just starts blasting out of his eye and he just laughs as water flies out of his eye. Like this guy's a fucking nutcase. I want to hang out with that. That sounds all right, as I've said before, it's all spot in my heart for eyeballs with legs. No, I know, it's basically and this is Activision who the fusures? I have Quake three So it's all right there wrapping back around. Yeah, yeah, it's not you know whatever. That that's my take on Skylander's like whatever. Yeah, quick click on the site. Yeah, quicklick gets up on the site if you want to see go pro footage and everything. Yeah, it is Skylanders. Lego Infinite Infinity. Is that the trifecta? Is there anything else? Or there any other it? I mean Amibo the same thing that counts Yeah, no, no, I mean this is the first year for Lego, so see how that thing does or see if this is the one that breaks it and makes it all fall apart. Uh, plastic goods. They're coming back to video games, well, I mean digital game sales or you know, like retails got a grasp onto something. So it's like it's funny because you think about it, like fucking rock band is coming out, you know, like when you think about rock Band having like I think about those games having trouble at retail back when it was big last time because shelf Space was in high demand, and it was like, Okay, well, you know, it's gonna be hard for us to make room for all these guitar hero bundles because we've got all these video games coming in and now that you know, these game retailers, the game stops of the world are like, oh shit, right, we need to give people a reason to come into our story, doing everything they can to increase the amount. I'm sure on some level they're like, fucking psyche, this stuff is coming unless nobody ends up wanting it. Yeah, we'll see. I don't know, Like I I've played a little rock Band four. I think everyone knows what rock band four is. You and you probably already know if you want more of that or not, or needed on a new platform or not. I guess do you want a home for all that DEALC you bought? All right? System you still have looked up to your seems to be like their primary pitch too, like hey, this stuff and they'll they'll they're getting into the new song business again like they were for years and years. That is that whole DEALC machine just going to spend back up. Yeah, I mean they've got they just announced like you two is in the game. And they said, they said, a bunch of you two songs are coming later. So I mean, yeah, they're gonna do new DLC. As someone who has played rock band three, yeah, fairly frequently. Uh since it came out, continuing until like a like a month ago. It'll be real nice to have some more dl say Holy yah, yeah, yeah, I did not know you were an avid rock band. Yeah, whenever I whenever I go back home to the East Bay. Uh yeah, and my and my brothers there, sure we it's a good family game rock out. Yeah, yeah, totally, Like it's that's that's the whole point of that. Rock band is for people who hang out with people exactly. If you hang out with people and want to do a thing, and that's it's a thing, man, I guess, so yeah, get together. Yeah. So I don't know, like I'll play some more of that. I haven't messed with the drums as much, but but yeah, it's yeah all right. Uh. And then it's been kind of more of the same as we've been talking about, Like I've been playing some more Mark, I've been doing more playing than creating. And Mario Nicker, I know, I was I kept thinking like, oh I should get in and make a new level, and then I'd be like, or I could fucking waste another nine hours on Destiny. Yeah that's kind of yeah, And yeah, I Mario Maker continues to be an incredible thing. Yeah, though, like I'm still finding bad levels, Like I just go play one hundred Mario Challenge. The mix, Yeah it's not. I don't know. I've been playing on normal and you just find some that are just like either you figure out the one weird trick to finish this level, or you don't like it's there's some of them are just a little too plants hate him. Yeah, built around one weird gimmick. The mix is inconsistent. But if you do the thing where you just find someone who you like their levels and you follow them and you just check in from time to time like oh he did a new one that seems it's kind of the way to go. Is there a hopper from people? You say, it's like, oh, I follow ten people, Like, just give me the shuffle from them, Like no, that'd be great. Yeah, go into their like I'm a profile or who am I following this person? Yep, and go and see their levels. Yeah, yep, yep, Yeah, I've I've played an embarrassingly small amount of that game because I'm gearing up for the Raid and beating the Raid has been my entire life for the last few days. But I got in there. I got through the tutorials, like it's the whole thing is just like joyous is the word I would use, you know, like it just makes you feel so good, especially as I'm getting into the point in my life where nostalgia for my childhood is becoming pretty wistful, you know, as that stuff starts to slip away. It's just like, man, this makes me happy, but beyond like beyond that stuff. I mean, I pretty much got to the point where it's all right, well and past all the stuff you want me to learn, barring the things that you're holding back right over the next few days or whatever. Yeah, would you launched into one hundred Mario stuff for a while or would you spend more time making like what's the best way to get started proper? I think it did, you know, like it? I usually turned it on with a goal in mind. I usually either turned it on going like I'm gonna make something or I want to play some levels, And lately it's just been I just want to play some levels, and I've been going to the hundred Mario Challenge, so there's just so there's not necessarily like an ideal way to get things to unlock a lot of the pre makeing stuff in the like ten Mario Challenge, it is a good way to get ideas, like if you have the pictorial stuff unlocked, right, that was I guess that was kind of part of my my hesitation with making stuff was just like I'm gonna look at this plank canvas and not know what to paint first, you know, But yeah, that makes sense. Yeah, playing like there's Nintendo levels, like, oh shit, I can like make a helmet out of a buzzy beetle and put it on someone Like, oh, I didn't even realize that, Like stuff the tutorial doesn't make obvious. Yeah, it's kind of like a good way to start a level is to like get an idea from there and just try to like make a level around one little idea. And that's kind of what I like about them gating your tool set in the Maker, because like if they just unlocked everything and be way too overwhelming, Yeah, it is annoying if you set the clock forward or whatever. Well, so you don't have to do that, but that's what I ended up doing too. You don't have to do that, no, so it's it's I guess if you are. It was a patch they put in like the day of release. If you you get that notice saying hey you the stuff will show up tomorrow, right but if you keep editing a level and PLoP down a bunch of blocks and use all the new blocks that you've got, so there's no exclamation points over the blocks apparently, and I've never seen this for myself, but people ensure like like swear that it is in there. It will I'm and say the delivery got here early, and give it all to you right there, h everything, uh no the next days and then it'll queue up the next So you could unlock all of it over the course of one really long session. But I think it's way faster to actually just turn it off, set your clock forward, get back in, queue up the next delivery, turn it off, set your clock forward, you know. Like That's that still seems to me. I have this weird purists mentality about stuff like that, where I want to maybe it's just working in this profession for so long, like I want to I want to experience that the way they think it should be experienced. Yeah, but you're even the season video games person, I guess. So yeah, so like you get the new ship, meant you play around and it's like, okay, I understand, I made my level, right now, where's the next one? Right? Like you you're saying you've probably learned that stuff in five or ten minutes and then be ready for more. Totally, totally, absolutely, and and so yeah I ended up doing that, even though I was even playing with the patch, like, it still seemed faster to just do that. And then the ten the ten Marios mode is that all Nintendo made stuff? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, and those are ones that you unlock as like sample courses as you beat them. Yeah, so I think you can go into a sample course and edit it if you like, if there's something you're like, oh I want to start with something like this or whatever. I think you can edit those and save them and stuff. All right, but yeah, it's it's really cool. And then yeah, man, I don't know, man, Destiny is Destiny is a better game than it was a year ago. But also actually I pulled a three ten Exotics Chest out of Purple Ingram right before this podcast. So I love Destiny right now. But that's go on. That's the problem is it's still that game. Yeah, there's still part of that game that is like the luck of the draw kind of Yeah, sure, you know that's always is that all loot games, it is to an extent. I think that that only makes sense if you've got loot that truly feels random. Wherein this you've got like the guns at the higher tiers are legendaries and exotics that are set for. They'll have random perks on the stuff like that, but you know the basics of what they are. It's just like you know, like think about the conversations that happened like over the last year of Destiny. It was just like, oh, well I need to do this so I can get the mythic class, and then I need to do this, and it was like there was a set path, like you would try to set up the optimal way to get these three specific guns that you want, and then everyone had that stuff if they were serious about playing Destiny, unless they didn't drop for them, in which case they were fucking infuriated. Like I think that's like those conversations will happen in like a world of warcraft, because like the raid gear is the raid gear, right, I mean, you d you get your raid set and that's that. But when I think about stuff like Diablo and stuff like that, like it's meant to be replayable in a way where it's like you're kind of always getting something else and you never really get attached to one piece of loot because there's always something crazy around the corner and or Borderlands, say yeah, or Borderlands exactly. And Destiny the expansion brings that back for a handful of levels, you know, where you're like, oh man, look at this crazy thing, or hey, this is more powerful than what I got in it's a it's a blue, it's not even a purple. Look at that. Uh. You know you have that experience again of like using just whatever weapon you find because you're just kind of leveling up and gaining in power and stuff like that. But now I've hit a point again around like I just hit two ninety one light, so I guess like now I'm ready to raid or whatever or close to it there. But the path from like two eighty light to to ninety light is a lot of like, well, I'm just gonna go sit here where a lot of good stuff tends to drop, and I'm gonna do these missions over and over and over again, hope that the stuff drops around the time that you're getting geared for the raid. There is there is an absolute lull and yeah, that feels a little frustrating. Yeah, and I think that that's that's a big problem that the game had last year. Yeah, but I don't think it's it's it's nowhere near as severe as you're right, And they do a better job of putting enough quest rewards out there for you to go after that will guarantee you some and like yeah, you'll get some artifacts and stuff like that. You know, like there's stuff, but it's like all of it is hidden behind a lot of different little bullshit things and uh, yeah, I don't know, Like I think that stuff that could be it's it could just be smoother. Now is all that well passed level forty because I'm at level thirty five level character level it turns out is completely meaningless. Yeah, Like they shouldn't. It's dumb to me that they even surface a character like once you at forty. It's just show the light numbers of the enemies you're fighting. There was a post on Destiny Reddit today saying that exact same thing, like, yeah, take out the character level, show the light level. That's all that matters to anybody who's been playing for more than five hours at this point, right I feel like there has been a constant conveyor belt where I'm at, Like I'm at thirty five right now, and I still am switching stuff out and it's kind of exciting when I like, you know, decrypted things like, oh man, that's better than you know, what I had before. So is it once your past level forty and you're done with the story and you're at you know that two eighty light level or whatever is that when it kind of grinds, you've got You've got another we'll say a two dozen hours of stuff what to do where you will still be consist awesome, because like I am liking it right now. So okay, for people who don't know that, you start the new expansion at twenty five and it ends at forty or the new cap is forty, so you will you will character level to forty, and then the light level is what comes into play. That's what matters after that, and that you'll start out and probably like the high hundred, like hundred and eighty something like that. I think you're one saw you you're like one seventy one live or something like that. So once you hit forty, your character level's not gonna matter anymore because all that does is gate the equipment you can use. Well, do you get above You've got no, No, No, The skills are not tied to your level. Those those level independently. They do use experience points the same way your character level does, but they level independently of your character leve. Yeah, so once you hit forty, that stuff might as well not be there anymore because you're gonna be able to use every piece of gear that drops at that point. The light level is all that matters. And I know we've talked about it before, but light level is just an aggregate of all the stuff you have equipped at the time. It's an average of your weapons, attack weapons, and defense ratings, but so your weapons as well. I thought it was just like arm everything that's that's Wow. That's what they've changed. And I didn't realize this, but talking Rory because he's played Wow for years, like apparently that's basically just Wow's eye level like item levels, right, Yeah, I didn't realize it was that similar, but yeah, I kind of like it. It's like a number. How good is yes, Like that's that's what it is. That's that's absolutely just this is what I'm geared for this. And then and then they take the higher level things you can do in that game, like the Heroic strikes, so the nightfalls or the raid or whatever and say, hey, we recommend you be at two eighty light to do this. Okay, can you not do it? If you're at that level, you can do the two out of the heroic what is it? The Nightfall is two eighty yeah, but they open it when you hit two six, So they tend they tend to open things up about twenty light before you're actually able to do it, because the only time I see light now is when I go to like the impossible version of missions. It's like, oh no, you can't do this in thier level to twenty light or whatever. So so your lightstat will be one hundred percent of the thing you fixate on in terms of character progress. Yeah, they should just eliminate character level completely or hide it. Hide it because because it's only there for like, hey, you can't equip an artifact until your level thirty, okay, you know, or stuff like that, like any artifact because that's the when the slot unlocks or stuff or something like that. But it's you know. The one thing I'll say about it, or one of the other things I will say about it that I really like is that you're starting to see more mystery in the game. And it's like you think back to like Halo three, and you think back to the like collecting all the skulls. It was something like even me like not really liking the first two Halo games that much, Like I got all those skulls because it was weird and it was like a fun crazy it was. I think there were achievements for each one too, yeah, which didn't hurt. But there's that one skull that's like, it's the guy way far away jumping across the thing, and if you got to get him right there and then you can get there, like that sort of stuff, and and like talking it out with people and are like, where the fuck is this last skull? Like that type of mystery was the stuff that Bungee was good at. Prior to Destiny, and then Destiny just kind of replaced the mystery with just like I don't know, man, you're pulling a lever on a fucking slot machine. Your guests is as good as ours. And now with the new environment and a lot of the stuff that they're doing, like they've put more mystery back into it right there. You you regularly run into things, You encounter things in the course of this expansion that make you go, huh, like, how do I do that? What does this prompt do? Right? How do you just like chest, what is that guy doing over there? They sold this thing as like, oh, they're like eight story missions and a new raid and this sort of stuff, but like there's actually like kind of a lot it's more to it. It's crazy that that it's it's basically the inverse of last year's Destiny experience, where they actually undersold what's really in this package, whereas before they kind of built enormous expectations that what they ship couldn't live up to. Yeah, but you might say that one leads to the other maybe so that that you know, it's not a it's a it's not an auspicious opening for that game or you know, kind of initial impression. But that's a good trajectory to follow if you're gonna if you're gonna kind of bungle launch a little bit, sure, so to get to this point. So there are yeah, there are things that are like labeled as mysteries, and then there are just things that will happen in destiny. What's an example, like what have you run? Is? Because you're you're a few levels behind me, but you're starting to catch up, so curious what you've seen. There's a there's a crashed ship in the new environment, or it's a ship with a ship crashed into the ship. I guess they crashed a smaller ship into the big ship. And on that ship there are just doors and this is maybe maybe this has been explained away somewhere else, Like there are things on there that will be labeled, Like you walk up to a terminal to say this requires this weird key that you've never heard of, and that makes sense. You're like, okay, well, obviously I'll get this key somewhere else and this will do something. But there are little rooms on this ship that will Sometimes the doors will be open and I walk in and it's a tiny door and there's a computer in there. You can scan the computer with your ghost, at which point an alarm goes off, and then nothing happens, And as soon as you walk out of the room, the door closes behind you and refuses to open again. It's like, what the fuck is that? I haven't actually even seen that yet, Like I that's how I've seen twice and I don't know what it is. I mean, I have to assume that has not yet been figured out by the community, because I'd heard you telling Eric Tay from GameSpot about that earlier and he didn't know what was up with it. Yeah, and if he doesn't know, then nobody knows, because that guy plays a lot of fucking destiny and so and then also like I was out whereas on Venus. I'm gonna tell this like the original Destiny, like when they when they pitched us on day I was on Venus running patrols. Who did you get that? Well, let me tell you a story about my gun. Okay, the tale of the time that Jeff was on Venus eons ago there. Uh So I was on Venus doing dumb shit, uh and all of a sudden just popped and said, hey, there's a mysterious transmission coming in and it started a patrol mission without me activating one. Really, the objectives were all question marks. It was just like a series of question marks. It's like, what the fuck am I supposed to do? It turns out it was get headshots, so as as you like get As you get one of them, it starts to fill in letters like wheel of fortune, stiff. You sit there long enough without doing it with advancing, because it'll say zero percent, And if you sit there without advancing, it'll start to fill in the letters for you. So you kind of eventually they figured it out, figure out what you're supposed to do. And so the three part thing with three different sets of question marks. Uh. And then the second part eventually decrypted to say feelings expressed, like you literally have to go wave at another player to complete that step. I feel like you're making all this up right now, because I haven't heard anything about any of this, and it sounds insane. And then there was a third step for generating orbs, and the steps can be random. I looked it up and there are there those steps are not always the same. Weird. What did all this lead to? It just get nothing. That's so that's the actual problem is that it was just like at the end of it, it was a is a another patrol quest that gave scene. Maybe it gave me more rep than I got from a normal one, but I bet it was very intriguing while you were doing it. Yeah, totally it was. It was, but it was like something that just came out of nowhere. I'm like, what the fuck is even going on? So they can put that sort of stuff. I mean, obviously I think the payoffs need to be better, but they've done that. The mystery is built in such a way that I finished that when like, fuck, I wonder if I'd do that way faster if I get something right. Well, So all of this is embodied in what happened with the Daily Story mission last Wednesday, which I know you know about. Yeah, do you guys know what happened with this? No, So Destity has a thing. It's the Daily Heroic Story Mission. It's just they pluck single mission from the story progression. They make it harder you play through it. It's still not that hard. If you're a decent level, you get some you know, rep and currency rewards out of it, and that's that. But I woke up last Wednesday and I was like bombarded by tweets from people going like, holy shit, if you've seen what they did with the Daily Story today, and if you played through that mission very quickly and perfectly, like no death snow the school are reductive, but you basically had to haul ass through it and not die. And as you got toward the end of the mission, a door on the side that's usually closed would open and you had to like book like, we tried it a couple times and it didn't work. So this was something that somebody kind of got lucky even discovering in the first place. And if you went through that mission, you or through that door, you would get a new mission that would never actually happen in that mission, like you get WOW. You would get a radio transmission from your ghost going like this is weird, We're picking up a fallen distress signal, and you would go into a part of the level that's usually closed off during that mission, and it started a whole new random encounter like or like a like a custom encounter for that WOW one, that one unique objective which was fucked hard. I tried it like fifteen times. I never finished it. Wow, I spent like half the day trying to do it. And if you did it right, if you did everything perfectly, you got a super awesome exotic sniper rifle that's not available anywhere else in the game. That's right, Like they built this whole thing that was very hard to even stumble into in the first place, way harder to actually complete, and then put like a really compelling roard at the end of it, like almost reminds me of like super hidden Mortal Kombat. Things right back in the day were like hit down in Bock when the Toasty guy comes out on the portal level, and it was right, yeah, sort of, And it was something that invigorated the Destiny community in a way I haven't seen like since the game came out. Really like people were losing their minds that like trying to get that thing. The idea of knowing that that is possible turns every like and it gives Bun you some leeway for sure, because now everyone can look at everything a little closer and go, wait, maybe if I do this wait, and suddenly the game feels a lot bigger sure, even if it isn't right. Although they have come out and said there are more of these types of kind of random hidden things in there like that. So yeah, I think that that that stuff is all a big part of what the game needed, like more mystery, more just like variance. You know, if you think about what that game was prior to the release of Taking King, like even the expansions that they added, like it was just here's some more story massines, here's another strikes. We're kind of universally considered to be pretty weak. Yeah, like nobody's really out there defending that content. It was. It was not you know, it's stuff that like fleshed out the main get and actually they took a lot of that content and inserted it into the middle of the progression. So if you're starting Destiny now, you'll see that stuff like way earlier than you would if you got it as DLC. I am doing that right now. Yeah, you're gonna you're you're gonna see, like I'm I'm not gonna say it's a better story, but it's gonna be it's gonna feel like a more robust story. There will be more to it and things are contextualize, Like they wrote a lot more stitching to go around a lot of that stuff to make it make more sense. Like it's just smart, Like you know, it's I don't know how many people will notice. Do you still have to go to like Grimoire cards to figure out because like they'll just tell me, like hey, bollow up Rode or whatever. I don't know. So they do better. They do better with that's like the major figures. But yeah, all those like look at these cards in your iPhone app. Still if you want, if you want the really deep Lord, then yes, you still have to do that. But the new quest system is accounting for a lot of that, just purely because the NPCs have a little more to say every time you run up to them and get them some more text in the game. Yeah, like like you you, I can't believe I'm praising the game for this, but you at least have a basic understanding of why you're doing all the things you're doing now, and by the end of it, like by the end of some of these quest lines, like they are addressing you as like you are the only one who could be saving us from this, this, and this, Like they're doing it in such a way that makes you the player feel like you've accomplished something over the course of the game. Yeah, as opposed to just like stumbling into this new environment and shooting an unrecognizable thing until it dies, and like I'm gonna just run in the direct of the arrow and blow everything up, like you know, feeling like you're just another one of these guardians too, Well, what are you doing? You had nothing to do? All right, go shoot this guy like everyone else here is doing. So Yeah, the rapper for the content, the way that it's all like stitched and glued together is is a lot more sound now. But then also, you know, the content is better in the new stuff. There's somebody said too about not having as like high of hopes, because like I went into Destiny last year thinking like, all right, I like the Halo games. Those are fun. I want to see what they do next, and it was just so weirdly put together that I was let down. Yeah, whereas I've spent the last year thinking like, yeah, I'm not big on Destiny, and then going into Taking King now it's like, all right, you can appreciate this stuff more, Like this actually plays really well. I forgot how good the gun play was, and like just the little additions they've made to you know, bounties. It's one of those things that, like, you know, I think there's a double edge to it, where like it's great that they fixed the game up, but also if you bought it a year ago and are now buying it again in one of their weird pricing packages and stuff like that, like it's still that's still too expensive for what you get, right I think? But overall I'm just I'm enjoying it a lot more this time around. Yeah, what's the I'm trying to think that the cheapest you could have bought everything that exists in Destiny to date is what one hundred and twenty bucks? I mean, if you start right now, it's sixty because you can get because the Taking thing comes with. So if you bought, if you bought Destiny at launch, didn't like it and put it down, it's another sixty two to get all the stuff that's come out since then, right because you would you would need to buy the expansions, the two expansions, and the Taking King. So it's still it's still the disc what is it? Taking King is forty and then ten and ten you can well, you can get there's a package that's the Taking King plus the two pretty well, there's a package of this everything two dates. It's like it's like, hey, it's our Game of the Year edition. Like think about it that way of like, hey, we bundled up all the DLC and we're reselling rights as usual. People that waited a year to play the game are having by far the best experience, right, But I'm thinking about that. Maybe it's kind of an edge case. But the people, like I said, who bought it when it came out and didn't like it and are hearing all these great things and want to get back in. But like that's like me, yeah, so you just have Base Destiny, yes, yeah, yeah, so I'll have you get to get the other gls I haven't yet. That's probably it's it's a big buy in. So wait, if you're in that position, if you've never bought any of it, though, you're getting the hell of the deal. But if you bought the original on disc but none of the DLC, can you just buy the Taken King for forty and get no because you have to expansion pass things? Also? Wow, okay, so how much is it if you just want to download like House of Wolves or whatever? Right now? H If you will Well, that's the thing. They sold those for thirty together, but it was twenty each, so if you just bought one of those, it would be twenty bucks. But on a marketplace right now, can you think you can still buy the expansion pass, which is both for thirty but you'd be crazy to do that. You just buy, right, get the sixty dollars thing that's got everything in it, right, that's the best way. Yeah, it's it's and and get a digital copy at this point, right like, that's it lets you get away from the physical copy if that's what you got, because it's an online game. Your physical copy is not going to do anything when they take the servers down. Anyway, I have a digital copy of their base game, so I wonder if I just buy the digital copy of the whole thing, and then it worked. Probably No, we's on an Xbox, so I don't know how it works. Okay, I did that on PS four and it's deleted that like install data from my disc or whatever. Okay, yeah, I gotta do that. I'm level eleven. It's you gotta waste a goal, that's for sure. Uh. And then I did the raid. You did the raid, and holy shit, twelve hours hours across two days was probably close to that. How much did it raid your bodily cleansliness? I showered, I showered both days. A showered prior to rating. Okay, he did not shower mid raid. Fuck, No, I you'd be out of your mind to wait until I've got raid stink. Yeah, totally. You'd be out of your mind to wait till bathe after the raid because you need another shower. By the time it's over, it's covering raid filth, stewing in it all day. Well, we intentionally leave of it very I think when I did the first raid, I had not showered when that was like, that was like I'm gonna wake up and play Destiny and do this raid thing. I think. I think that one took us about seven hours. Yeah, and I and I played for a few hours before we did that because I had to get the ast few things. So I used our VAULTI glass, our blind vault of glass run that we did like what last October? Yeah, I guess as as a templet for how I thought this would go. Holy shit, did I underestimate how hard this was going to be? In both cases, Like when I heard you going expressing your incredulity at the end of the table, Drew. It's because we went into this thing going like, all right, we don't want to know anything about this. We want to explore out, figure out, like learn all the mechanics ourselves, Like let's let's actually truly best this thing and not just like read a guide and execute on a plan. Yeah, none of my none of my elemental weapons are working. Does anyone have any of this? Weird? Right? And it's oh, that worked, let's do that. And this one is so much more complicated than that, Like there are so many obscure and arcane mechanics around, like where people have to be and like like what's this thing I can pick up? And where do I put it? And like wait, maybe I shouldn't be holding it right now. Maybe we need to step on these platforms in a different order than we're doing. It was that more rewarding, you think? Absolutely at the end it is, But God in the pros says it can you can really questions like you're fucking you're on a headset with five other people, like for that many hours, like and and if someone keeps sucking up at some point, it just gets fucking well, yes, you're you're just barely holding back fucking open contempt. Or you can on your team. You can get to a very dark place when people are not executing, because there are parts of this I mean it's true of every raid in every game, but there are parts of this thing that demand absolutely flawless execution, and if somebody fucks up for a split second, like you're starting over. It's so weird because I have not done any of the raids. But what you're describing sounds like a different game than anything else. It is story missions, like it sounds like puzzle solving. Yeah, it's very different. So one thing that Taking King does is that a little bit of these mechanics bleed into the strikes, which I don't think you've done any Actually, if you haven't finished the story, you haven't gotten the strikes yet. But like in in the original game, the strikes were just three man missions, like they were basically just kill everything in your way until the missions over that. Yeah, it's like there's a big boss at the end, right, like big boss. Yeah, oh my god. If you salute him and then the mission ends and then he fucking chokes you out, you thank him. So some of some of these three man strikes in the new expansion have some of these some some light examples of these mechanics, where like, oh, there will be a thing you have to pick up and ferry it to a terminal to put it into or something like that, and the other two people need to protect this person well, you know, because they can't attack or whatever, and that stuff gets amplified just to the nth degree in the raid. You know, it's six people, they all have roles that are very clearly defined in most of these encounters. But the puzzle solving aspect of it, you're right, is super satisfying, as you're like literally scrutinizing every inch of the environment to see if like, okay, something lighting up over there is that going to indicate like where we need to shoot this guy first, or like where we should be you know, Like it's a lot of that stuff. The other the other aspect of this thing, though, is just raw killing shit, And if your team is not deadly efficient at killing shit, like you can just run into a wall that seems basically unsurpassable or insurmountable. Are these all environments that are exclusive to the raid, like I am not seeing if I'm not raiding, I'm not seeing these entire trunks of the game. They all all three raids kind of start in areas that you'll think are familiar, but within like ten minutes you're off to like completely new stuff. And the raids have always across the board have been like the most like visually interesting and elaborate environments. It seems like the sort of dumb I've dumb thing to hide behind, Like, yeah, well, it's so many different barriers. It's like, hey, you need to find five people that you trust to do this. You're not wrong, But given the effort it takes to even get into these things, and then the incredible effort on top of that to finish them, Like you want to save something grandiose and and you want some spectacle in this kind of and I want something totally Yes, But I wonder if they would find greater success. And with this game, well whatever, it's it's been selling quite well, who cares. But if the raids were not as complicated, more people would see them. Well, what about something like Vault of Glass Now that was the first one, right, yes, so someone just buys Taking King now for the first time. Is it pretty easy to get into that? Like can I just do the vault of Glass at thirty five one seventy one light? Well, you'd still need people to come with you, right, but I mean like I don't have to do anything. Absolutely, you too could totally probably go in there and just murder that thing. Huh Okay, you still have to figure out, you know. Yeah, they're still like no matter how well you kill shit, like, you have to fucking do the right thing, right, there's or you all end up dead. Like there are just points in that in that raid where it's like you all are dead because you didn't shoot this fucking one thing that was off to the side. Congratulations, and pretty much listen for the chime. I when you hear the chime, fucking find the thing and shoot it before it kills you. But there's checkpoints right, yes, yes, yes, okay, absolutely, yeah, there's checkpoint after ever you kind of major encounter and every puzzle sequence because they're even you know, they're like crazy platforming puzzle uh encounter type things too. And do you have to be playing with people like there's no matchmaking or anything. There's there's no AI, guys, like you have to have five people you know or whatever. Yeah, well you can find some some people have some people have soloed the raid though, right, I mean Glass at some point in there, so the second one, but I think that's like they're exploits involved crazy stuff like that, and you can't just you're not supposed to be because like he's saying, like there are points where you just literally need all six people in positions to do things right. You know, two people need to be holding relics. Certain, yes, exactly, like cool, it's it's it is and this raid, uh is. This is true of the new Raid, even more so than the previous two, Like it is the most complex and rewarding and challenging and fucking Banana's crazy co op shooter experience. You can have wow like it is. It is just intense, like I can't describe unless you just do it. I would like to do the second rate at some point now that I'm like way over leveled for Yeah, that one's by far like the least favorite of the player base. Like everybody kind of shits on that one at this point, Like there's still some interesting stuff in it, but it just it it doesn't come together in the way that these other two do. Did that come with one of the middle delcs? That was the first delC? But but yeah, they're they're also parts in this raid though, where the light system can be deceptive and kind of works against you because the light raiding, again is just an aggregate of everything, all the best stuff you have on right, so you can say like, oh, I'm two ninety two light. Of course I'm ready to go into the raid that up at two eighty, you know, because like the player base, everybody's saying like, oh two nine, en up, you're fine. But this thing heavily favors certain weapon types to such a degree that if you go in there with none of those weapons, like you're gonna be a liability for your team, and they never communicate that to you, Like if you don't have a really good sniper rifle and or a really good scout rifle and or a really good machine gun, Like, there are encounters in here that you're just going to be kind of useless in and that stuff doesn't become apparent until necessarily the third or fourth hour of trying to beat a boss, because like there are parts where literally is it all comes down to your team's ability to put out enough damage in a very short like let's say ten to twenty second window into this boss and if you can't do it, you are just not gonna make it. Like the math just doesn't work and that fucking sucks. Yeah, Like it's really infuriating. That seems where because you don't know if you know, if you go on read it or whatever and read a guide, it's like whatever they'll tell you here that you shouldn't be but yeah, yeah, that shouldn't be part of the game. There's one some amount of communication, I guess because you're working as part of a team or something like that. But I guess you could argue it's like, you know, they expect the player to be abil to in to it some of these things. It's like, oh, of course i'd be doing more damage. You've had a sniper rifle here because the boss is very far away. Sure, maybe I need to go grind a sniper rifle for a couple of hours before I come back. You know, Like you could argue that it's on the player to figure that stuff out. But like, as hard as it is to get six people together at the same time for this very long time, commitment and get in there and do it, like to kind of bang your head up against some of the stuff and realize, like, maybe we're not as geared for this as we thought we were. Like it's kind of frustrating. Yeah, that doesn't sound fun, you know like that at that point, that just sounds like okay, well fuck man, Like we went up against this thing and it turns out we don't have the right ship, Like, well, let's fucking all right to try to schedule some time to do it. It was when when are you free? When you like at some point, yeah, like when when we didn't finish it, just yeah, when we didn't finish it on Saturday and it became clear we were gonna need a second day, it was just like a funk. All right, what's everybody doing tomorrow? It's like, oh, you've got a flight while you're out, you know. And then it's like when we gotta find some alternates. Yeah, but again, you know, we could have looked at some hints and figure that stuff a lot better. There are other strategies you can use that help with some of that stuff. But but yeah, like like figuring that stuff out and actually licking it, you know, like really, you know, tearing those things apart and saying like, all right, you need to do this, you need to do this. Everybody's on point, let's execute. Like it's like five minutes of hell. But then you come out the other side of it and the boss goes down and it's like, holy shit, I can't believe we pulled that off. Like those one of the hardest things I've ever done in the game. It feels pretty good, honestly, Like hearing that stuff does give me a reason to keep playing. Yeah, like I am liking the game, but like knowing that that stuff's out there makes you know, the washing that light number go up that much works, right, Yeah, I just wish it would go up a little more predictably, like because I got to I've been at a point for a while where it's like I'm waiting for gear to drop, not even to where in most cases it's to infuse into my existing gear to raise the number on that gear because it's got special perks that I like, And so it's been like I'm not even getting anything that's like visibly different about my character. It's literally just the numbers going well. For one thing, you have to be okay with using blue stuff for quite a while, and it said that's what I'm doing now. Yeah, like you once you kind of get right with that notion, Like I know, once you have purple stuff, you don't want to go back to blue. But but that's kind of what the game requires. Yeah, the beginner questionaire, purple is legendary, and then there's exotic. It's exotic above legends. Yeah, so that's the absolute pinnacle there, and what is that yellow? Yeah? Okay, and those are weird. There are all these weird requirements around, Like you can only have one exotic on at a time, one piece of armor, and one weapon at a time. You can't use more than one. So if you go into a rate, is it typically one exotic and a bunch of legendaries. A lot of people most people roll with exotics that they like, but not necessarily because like the high level legendaries can be equivalent in terms of capability. That's kind of a preference thing. And like one of the things they changed is you can take an existing weapon and infuse ship into it to raise that number up. So it's it's it's the number is as high as an exotic. Okay, So it's still viable. Confuse exotics or just legendaries, yea confuse and legendaries. Yeah, but you can feeds feed guns to other guns. Yes, yeah yeah. Rayers don't have as many abilities on them as many perks, so you never would want to to raise one of those things. But the thing about the exotics is each one is uh. The legendaries you can think of as templates, like they made x number of guns and they can roll with any damage value and any set of perks on them. Right. The exotics are all hand built, they're hand named, they're all unique art assets, and they all have like each exotic in the game has a unique ability on it that no other item in the game has. Is that like the good Jallar Horn or whatever Stellar horn Galler was was the classic exotic that everybody wanted because it had a perk on it where when you shot the rocket at the thing, it would split into a ton of kind of seeker projectiles, each of which would would do a ton of damage. So it would you would shoot the rocket and then it would turn into a big cluster of rockets and do a fuck ton of damage. And no other gun in the game had that ability. So that's why that was so good. You know, is that week now because it's a year one thing whatever, they could not allow that one to continue on the year two. So but I mean you can still have it. It's just a week. Yeah, you wouldn't. Well, I've actually read some people arguing for like this, the Gallahernan is actually still useful in this case. In this case, you know, like that stuff still hangs around a little bit, and it's this sort of thing that like, I you know, I bet they bring that weapon back for year three maybe, yeah, you know, like it it lets them, oh we're bringing it back. We heard yet maybe we'll puts them in a position to do stuff like that. That one might be an edge case where that one trivialized so many bosses that they don't want to I think it's something you have to build. They have to build the content around the abilities, right, I mean, they have to account for that stuff a little better than maybe they did out of the gate. Yeah. Uh, going after that stuff is fun. Like the infusion system is fantastic because you're not stuck with anything you don't like anymore, you know. Yeah, like it defeats the old MMO problem of like, well, I think this looks stupid or I don't like what it does, but it's the highest value thing I have, so I kind of have to use it, right, Like I don't want to use a hand cannon, right, and I got a really really good hand cannon, So I'm like, fuck you, stupid pistol. I'm feeding this pistol to my other cooler gun, right, I gotta. I got a three ten auto rifle out of the off the last boss of the raid that I kind of don't like at all, so I could just stick that in another gun and then that gun gets super strong. It's it's good stuff. Yeah, it's I you know. I still think that game has some significant things that they can iron out totally, but that goes without saying they definitely got it to a point where it's like, okay, I can I could see recommending this. I think that if you if you bought it last year and really didn't like it, they didn't change enough that if you if you played it and said, like, man, there there should be more here, well they put more here. Yeah, and if you think that value is worth it, then they could see it make it sense. They put more in and they made it work a little better. Yeah, but if you have more, if you have more fundamental problems with Destiny, then like, hey, the content is like jumbled up and like not well presented. The thing I would say is, if you don't like shooting the guns and Destiny, don't play Destiny because Destiny is shooting guns. Yeah it did. They did not make that any better or worse for that match. Shooting the guns is literally the game here. It is. Yeah, it's like it's just's just guns to nerd out over. It's basically what that thing is. But but and not enough guns to find. There'll be more than you think. I guess, like if I got super deep into it where I was like, I'm gonna get one of every exotic because why not, Well I'm not even that crazy, But there's exact exotics then people know about like that, you know that mission last week shows like so here's a sniper rifle that nobody knew existed until today. So that's that's exciting. If nothing else, it makes you hopeful for what the future of this game could be, and it makes you it makes you feel like maybe they've got enough of the fundamentals ironed out at this point that they maybe have a good pipeline in place for just like all right, let's get down to business and make enough content for this thing. I don't know, I almost feel like for when you think about so, when you think about the next game or the next thing they would release any year's time, that would then be Destiny too. Yeah, assuming they make another game, Yeah, maybe they'll cut it off here. They won't, They will not complete, there will be no more Destiny. Maybe maybe they're wrapping it up, you know, assuming they actually pursue the crazy idea of putting all the ten years worth of content into this one thing, you know, sure which on content it's weird because then you have different like kind of content objects floating around in the system or whatever. Right, Well, for me, it's more like, you know, like there's stuff that like you start to think about this game more of like a Guild Wars style MMO in shooter form. Then at some point the environments like you should see more players, you should have bigger groups, you should have more stuff like like that sort of stuff, And it seems like that there's just like some larger scale rebuilding of things that you could do. I don't know. I don't know totally. I mean, if I had my wish that game would be a true giant open world where you could just hop into spaceship and fly around to different places. Yeah, I don't think it initially needs to be that, Like i'd be nice to have something to do in your space ship, you know, like war even if it was just war frame style, like I can move it during the loading. Sure, you know it would be a start. Hey, it's better than zero, right, sure, But you know, I think, you know, like larger environments, like a reason to go to the social areas beyond just like well, I have to go turn this stuff in. I have to go there because that's where you put all the vendors and people you turn questions into. Here. Just let people buy that ship on the ship and never go there unless there's a cut scene or something. I don't know, like there's still more quality of life stuff they could do around that. I don't know, Like it's it's still like I I you know, it feels like parts of it feel a little old or something. I guess. I don't know, but we'll see, Yes, taking King, it's a start. I like it now. I'm looking forward to plan night. Hey, let's raid. It took him nine years or how long did they work on it before it came out? Who knows. It took him all that time plus an extra year before you went like, okay, what you're going for? Finally the rubbers meeting the road reached out, let's do this right. Yeah, yeah, we are looking to maybe stream that raid on the site. I think that's the plan Yetively, I don't know you and Austin are in raid territory. Yeah, like I'm I'm you just think I need a scout rifle and that's it, or just anything you can do image with at a distance. Okay, so sniper rifle would be best. But this is my experience. I'm sure that some people out there have done this thing more than me and have more specific opinions about it. But that's my observation after doing it once. And you guys, because you're not eagiots like me or you said you're cool with me, just kind of stepping you guys through everything. Yeah, I mean we have to, you know, if if we're gonna stream it, it has to be we can't. We can't stream for twelve hours. We could also I wouldn't be able to sit there for that long and not say anything, you know. Yeah, at a certain point, you're just like, all right, you guys are not getting this. Here's what you do, right, But I hope to do that. You got to take the pill and then kill yourself from the menu. Oh yeah, okay, finally you'll be free. Yeah, now it all makes sense. Yep. I kind of want to try to be ready by Thursday. Dude, I don't know how realistic you can play the ship out of that game, and you might get close, I don't. I give you all the tips I can provide now that I know that Light is based on weapons too, Like I may be sure chaining myself and I'm going to de cript ingrams. Okay, I'm just making sure that I have all the best like helmet and chest stuff. Yeah yeah, Like I've not been fucking around with my leg. You should, you should. Oh gosh, we have not even had the basics of a conversation about how to get geared up in this game. Like you always want the highest level everything you have on when you go decoding. Just when you decode, it's not when it drops, because I don't think bungees come out and said this, But the fan understanding, the community understanding, is that whatever your light level is at when you decode your new gear, that's what we'll dictate how good the new stuff is. Click on the chat gem ninety nine times. I might try, and we'll talk. We'll talk after this. We'll okay, we'll see how feasible this actually is. You know you're not even level forty, right, No, I'm thirty five. I don't, I don't, I don't know what you're Wait, where did you get to in the story? I'm actually doing a lot of the old DLC though. We'll see that. That is. My next mission is like a level thirty six story. It's like a dreadnought something around. Well, that's taking King stuff. You're yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, all right, we'll tell the next Taken King story. I've got a couple of things right now. You've got about seventy two hours left. No, no, I mean real world. You've got three days until we're doing this raid. We'll see, we'll see. So not a lot out right now. It's times it's time to test your dedication. Like Tony Hawk. Ah, I like Tony Hawk A lot. Maybe it's maybe it's time for you to do something that really matters. Maybe it's time for you to bill you can be all right. Games that aren't destiny, anybody got one? I played a couple of hidden gems that I don't think we've talked about much on this show. Yeah, uh Metal here, Solid five, the fan of pain super Mario Maker heard about those. Yeah, a little a couple of a couple of indie darlings. Yeah, those are the main ones I played. It's been like seven hours making a level on Friday night. Yeah, you and you posted that that better. That was my jail break. One better be a whole level. It's probably my best one an hour Mario's jail break. Yeah. I just had the idea of, like, you know, I have an m escape from a prison or whatever, and so I spent a long time levels. That's what I see out of this thing. And you got you actually got to get the question mark block. I did a mystery mushroom where it makes a question mark blocks, so it's like you're sneaking out of the prison in a box. Basically. That's actually super creative. I wanted to be really cool. I thought about doing a crebos shoe thing where you have to like sneak out in a sock like you've got an a laundry basket or whatever. You know, But it was it was actually really cool to do. I got to do the rock thing where it's you had to go out through all these flames like when Sean Connery rolled under the flame. Was nice. Yeah, it was a real fun level to make. I need I need to follow you guys. It's too bad you can't just like say a user name or something that I could go punch in to do that. No, find the only he followed one code like that's so that's what it's like. The only point of entry is this like what like sixteen digit thing? Yeah? Yeah, because even if you're friends with someone at a EU level, that doesn't get you to their page. Yep. Man. But anyway, I know we've talked plenty about those, so, you know, still working on metal Gear Uncharted collection, working on that, Yeah, yo, is that Uncharted? It is Uncharted? Do you play as Nathan Drake, He's he's an adventurer. Yeah, it's out. Yeah, I think this week isn't Oh yeah it is, oh yep. Yeah. The embargo for like let's plays and all that stuff, you know lifted. So is uh that's when people play video games on the internet. Yeah, uh, it's it's what you think it is. Uh smooth. Yeah, it looks good except for like going back to the first one, it was kind of interesting. It's like I kind of expected this to look better, Like it almost looks more like Jack and Dax Street the way things move and everything, and like the jungles and stuff, and I remember I remember being like ultra realistic, right, and like stuff like his shirt and stuff when he roll around the water. It still looks good. Sucked in You're like, what the fuck is going on? But this thing, it's it's crazy how it's It's crazy how the appearance of games can can become embellished in your memory. Yeah. Like I feel like there are a lot of games over the last ten years or so that I'm kind of afraid to go back and look at because I'm going to realize, like, man, that doesn't hold up at all for me. For me, that extends beyond just the visuals though, it's like mechanics and everything. Like it's it's part of why I have not played Acarina, Like I don't want to play Akarena again. Still you didn't play three DS one. No, it's good the three, the three and that one actually is that's a it's maybe I don't want to play it handled anyway, but like like that looked pretty good, like that one that does pretty well. Yeah, yeah, it's timeless. Yeah, they I mean, they obviously made a lot of improvements, but like those were they would have to I think those were individually is but also like control wise, improvements were mostly situational. You know, it's like, oh, the water temple isn't a shitty no, but the core of the game is still there and still the same minute ease of use stuff where it's like, oh, instead of having to pause and go to your equipment to equipment and equipped iron boots, you can just tap a thing on the right screen, but which helps a lot. The core of that game is still sound after god almost twenty years, Jesus. Well, there's stuff like you know, like wind Waker when it came out the AHD version, it's like, yeah, this is how I remember when Waker looking It's like no, I mean because that was in two thousand and three or whatever, and should go back it's like, oh man, this doesn't look quite as great, but yeah, they still look really good. But again, it's it's a rerelease of eighth D games. They took out some of the like stupid six access like whoa, I'm walking across a rickety bog thing like not just that it's a rerelease of a series that I felt like had its time. And then I kind of got my fill of, well, you're looking forward to Uncharted four. Well, yes, for reasons I won't really get into other than the things. Some of the things I've heard about it really make me interested in it in a way that like I didn't think another Uncharted game would be able to do. Okay, uh, yeah, I guess I never really knew the consensus of the Uncharted series. Well, I love the ship, like like two just one that stands out, and it's like a lampmark moment in video game development, Like okay, I'm glad, granted, but yeah, no, I mean it was our game of the year that year, Like you know, obviously the Spectacle has been kind of matched and surpassed in that game since then. But like at the time, you get of those blue guys and then you turn it off that was you know. It's it's like when you watch Heat and turn it off before the end, just assumed that Robert Nara flew away. It's not. It's like if you turn it off before the Blue Guys on chart to twoose the greatest game I ever made. Yeah, some of it, and then it comes back down to earth and you're like, you know, this is still really amazing, but fuck that that part sucked. The whole last hour is not great, but but yeah, like at the time, it was just like, holy shit, nobody's ever reached this level of just kind of enormous, over the top action before tour I even three. I think people expect it to be blown away so much because the leap from one to two it was so ridiculous, and then two to three, Like three still has some really cool moments. I seem to be yes, it was. I seem to be in like a weird minority of people who thought three was really good. Like I'm not gonna say better than two, but I thought it was quite good, but like it seems better than one. For people tend to shit on three a lot these days. I think it's because of that very jump, maybe from because of that jump, and it's like I think that was the game that got the perception of like, well, this isn't the real Uncharted team because they might last of us like all that stuff, right, Like it has Like with that context, I think people are a little more ready to shit on it. Like I'm I'm I'm interested to see what they do with four. I'm not necessarily sure. I wanted to go back and play the old ones again. Yeah I can't. I came out of that E three demo looking at four going like, man, this thing looks oh, it looks incredible. It looks unreal. Like, no, it looks better than unreal. The textures don't have that weird popping Yeah crazy, I mean it was. It was one of the most impressive demos. Just it's a real unity to the way. Yes, is what I'm saying. What if I tell you there is a photo mode and Nathan Drake collection, Oh no, you got no, thanks, No, I'm gonna show you know I don't need in any game ever. Fucking folks, I'm glad they exist. Like I have a share button on the controller. Fucked man, it's cool to be able to pause the action and move the camera around in weird ways. No, it's cool to look at images that other people did that for doing it yourself, like whatever, you need a photo mode to accomplish that. You know who could do that? The fucking marketing team for the game. Maybe I don't need to make marketing the quality like take off the hood and all this other stuff. Like, No, those are the screenshots that they put out when they're promoting the games. I don't need to do that. I think it's cool. I only use it. Well, you're wrong, I only use an infamous second son when I was in the game and wanted to get a better view of my face in the game. That was kind of the well crowd is looking at these days. When I was playing America's Army in high school. So that game is all online and you can't even go at least I don't think you could go or like mess around offline like in a map. Just to learn it. Anytime you play the game, you had to be online in a match, and I wanted to like take cool photos of like awesome stuff happening in the match, because when you like, you know, when you take a screenshot of a guy shooting another guy like that is in a game that like that's that's real man, that's happening. Yeah, and then you had to be there for that, like you can't. There's no flyer, you're in danger as a wartime photographer. So I created a separate account because I didn't want to like get shot up and then like you know, lose and take my ranking down. She was just persistent ranking. So I created another account called Combat Underscore Photographer and went around to America's Army Games and took screenshots photo mode. It's called the Prince Screen Button dividing podcasts since that's shadow play thing on n Video is really cool. Yeah, like it's really easy to set up. I mean it's just it's just the record all the time playing the console. It's like the DVR. It's like the game DVR that is now built into Windows anything. I like it better than the because when I was trying to record stuff, I tried both. I tried the new Windows tend thing and shadow play, and and the game bar thing works fine. You hit like Windows G and it pops up the bar and you can hit record or whatever, or you can hit like a record now type thing. But I just felt like the Nvidio thing. Uh, you know, you set up your folder and you can set a hot key, so mine is like one of the slashes or whatever, and I hit it and it can be the last five minutes or the last twenty minutes or whatever, and the video files look awesome, and it just I remember, it doesn't take up any like screen real estates where you got to kind of pull up this game bar. So, I mean, they both seemed fine, but that shadow Play seemed great, and I already had the Nvidio experience or whatever with that mccode are we talking here? Rectecks eleven? Now the video files, I don't know shit about that. It isn't for everything, Like, isn't everything? Oh, I see, isn't. I'm not sure what extension it was not nav? I is it MP four? I want to say it's probably four. It's like an eight whatever, two sixty four MP four dot? Is this is making sense to these words I'm saying, Yeah, okay, yeah, it's a voke file. It's just the audio. You gotta have real player. Yeah, fucking rhyms who used that? People who wanted to stream shit on the internet decades ago? You're right, yeah, real player huh. When we launched video game Spot ninety six, there were there were those were real videos, wow, I mean the real videos and quick times. Maybe there was like an option. I remember downloading a lot of quick times from my GN Yeah. I don't know if they were even called it. I think it was in sixty four dot com back then, right, yeah, because they bought n sixty four dot Com and turned it into IGNO. Yeah, I think that's right. I just remember post ran and sixty four dot com like he did some freelancing for us before before I picked it up. I just I just remember seeing I just remember some postage stamp sized like fifteen fps videos of Marisa four. Yeah, and that was I have to play. That was enough to where you were like, fucking, I'm going to beat down the door. If the toys r US today, you guys get the demo united and I have to play that. I had played significant chunks of that game because we had a Japanese and sixty four in the office. Still, like I had not pre ordered or anything like that. Still, on launch day I went out and bought I want to talk about landmarks releases in video game history, like that thing might as well have been a magic artifact to me. I had to to the woman at the best Buy to get her to sell me an N sixty four because one they were they had all been pre ordered. Did you get I don't remember what lot. I think there was something like I persuaded her to sell me one that she should not have sold. Wait, did you steal somebody's pre order? I don't know. I didn't say I was someone else or anything like that, but there was there was something taken the allocation anyway there. Yeah, I think I may have, Like I may there was one on hold for somebody, and I think I may have just maybe I didn't lie. Man, It was more of a they're not going to show up, come on, and I think I had got one out of her anything. Wow, man, I remember when that thing launched early, that's what it was. It was. Maybe that's what they moved it up like a week? Yeah, isn't it was a six? Yeah it was. It was September nine six. I forget the exact days, but it wasn't a week. I think that they moved and it wasn't it also go down in price. I want to say, you're right, like it came out early and cheaper than they said it was going to. Yeah, what bizarre? Ye oh my god. I remember that because I remember being on the playground at school. Uh. And word on the on the playground was that Nintendo was coming out with a new console. It was supposed to be three hundred dollars. What. Yeah, that's how That's how you knew it was. That's how good it was. How good it was? Three hundred dollars? Good? Were like pilot Wings? No, no, it turns out what uh following sixty four? What not a fan? Yeah? Sixty four is you know, it's a good game. Though, Pilot Wings for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, they had that mode seven, had that most seven scaled its scale Mode seven though it's scaled and rotated. Yeah, it turned out, all right, Why don't we move into news? Yeah? I don't know why I always ask that. Hey, guess what we're gonna talk about news? Now? Okay, great, I'm putting my foot down. All right, I'm asserting myself. We're talking about news. Here's the first story voice actors, Yeah, of the video game variety, maybe well on their way to a strike sag sack after I guess is the full name of Yes, yes, it's three many. So Nolan North is gonna lead the fire team. Jennifer Hale, I don't think Troy Baker. Nobody has sought comment from Nolan North that I've seen. I know Jennifer Hale has been out there, Yeah, just supporting it. Will Wheaton. It's like Troy Baker might have chimed in, like a lot of Dave Finnoy, like a lot of known voice actors are getting behind this thing. But the Yeah, so the the union, SAG, the Screen Action Guild has been negotiating with I guess several publishers have basically named kind of an arbitrator or a negotiator on their side. But SAGA is after royalties, better working conditions, like kind of all the stuff you would expect voice actors to want. Yeah, so they're looking to renegotiate like an agreement like it was. It's the Interactive Media Agreement. So when you use SAG actors in your thing, you do it under this agreement, which that agreement was put together in ninety five. Yes, so it's you know, think about how voice actors were used in video games back in ninety five. It's just a very different, Yes, a very different thing. Now. Apparently they sought royalties in that ninety five negotiation and obviously did not get them right then. But that's not the only consideration in this. One of the things that they pointed out is a lot of voice actors are showing up expecting to just do voice work and then are also having to do motion capture work a like performance capture at the same time without notice. So they're trying to hammer out like better regulations around that stuff, like more just more notice in general about the type of material they're going to be performing. Yeah, stuff like that. But but Royal Sex guy says, I didn't ask for this, He meant it absolutely. That's yes, he was. That was he was. That was method acting. He was really feeling that part. And he is one of the people that in support, yes, the add of the the voice of Adam Johnsen, I don't know his name, But royalties are a big part of this. They're seeking, uh, they're seeking royalties for voice actors and from for any game that sells over two million copies. Mhmm. Yeah. And so I know that they went into this on the Beast cast as well. It just seems like it's it's a big issue. Like I think there's a temptation to be like as as soon as they say royalties, you're like, fucking what. Right, Some some developers have publicly said fucking what. Yeah, there's been a lot of that because like the vast majority of of people developing video games and working on them for a long periods of time, they do not get royal, right, right, people people that slave for twelve fourteen hours a day for months and years on end, come out said, come out saying, but I mean that did to an extent, I feel like this just conjures, like what's the common image of like a barrel full of crabs, like each pulling each other down as they try to claw their way out. Right, Yeah, it's like you should maybe turn your attention toward whoever is like standing over the barrel with all the money. It's Bobby code. That's what you do, right, But isn't It's just tell me it's a Bobby code. It might be is he standing over the barrel, he's waving, smiling, He's waving a stack of Benjamin's. Is he sayings in Moneyball over and over again? I mean people are just looking at him, like, no, Bob, it's not we need to talk. The point is, you know, better better working conditions and conversation for everybody would be nice. I mean, yes, sure, yes. My understanding is that, like even royalties might not be the answer. But my understanding is that the rates for voice actors for video games are not great, fairly miniscule. Yeah, I mean, obviously the union standardizes that stuff, but they've only got whatever they managed to negotiate previously. Yeah, that was a long time in place. I mean I feel like some of this stuff is just to be expected as the voice actors who who give voice to a lot of the characters become recognizable names, right, Like Nolan North was kind of the vanguard of that to me, Like we started noticing him, Charles Martinet, Yeah, I guess so. But I mean, you know, like it was around the time of Uncharted actually that you start going like it was, I know who Nolan North is, and he seems cool and I liked when I hear his voice. Yeah, it was like Uncharted and Prince of Persia, and like there was a time when a bunch of different games came out then he basically played the same character in all of them. But I think like the question becomes like has anyone ever gone out and bought a game specifically because of as the issue? And it's like if you think about stars in a movie, yeah, obviously that's you know, like you put Tom Cruise in a movie. And I think that's specifically. One of the arguments that the publishers are using against this notion is that like, well, nobody's actually going out, like your your names are not driving sales of these things. Yeah, even if people are starting to, you know, but no, no, no one even in that case, Like I mean, celebrity voice actors are nothing new in games best. It's like a marketing like bullet point, right, you know. It's like it's like even that big of a name, like that's not no one's gonna buy metal or five because oh I love twenty four. That doesn't happen, right, Like maybe you will have heard of metal Gear because you would like twenty four, and you know, your Google alert for key for Sutherland goes off and you're like, what is my favorite twenty four actor doing a metal Gear? So what is that? But no, that that even that scenario seems to a very small extent. I feel like that's maybe changing a little bit. Like like reading the quicklot comments for Until Dawn was kind of eye opening because I didn't recognize any of those actors outside of like Hayden Panetieri or whatever. But but a bunch of people were going like, oh, they're so and so from show. You know, sure like somebody recognized every reactor in the game. You know, I'm I haven't. I have not negotiated any of these contracts, so I don't know, but I would assume that if you are going in there and they are putting your likeness in the game as well as your voice, you're probably getting better terms than I would Allen Page situation or yeah, you know, even if you're not like the top build like an even if you're not in an Ellen Page situation or something like that, that I would hope that you would you would get more because they use they've used Troy Baker's likeness, Yeah, like Infamous Advanced Warfare, Yeah, and second sidled Delson's face off him, right, Yeah, Yeah, I think at that point, like, you know, if it's if you're taking that person's image and using it in the game. In the case Troy Baker, though, I have to almost have to wonder what drove that decision because he's not a household name, you know, like he's obviously he's becoming pretty popular, like a lot of people that are very hardcore in the video game fandom, no, and like him. But if they're doing the performance capture and he's a good looking guy, like maybe it's just easier to say, like, well, well if we make the face look like your face, then all this data lines up perfectly. Weird. Yeah, maybe it's just a utilitarian thing. I don't know, I don't know enough about the process. Yeah, uh yeah, it's Yeah, there are a lot of messed up things about the way games are made, Like crunch still happens, people still work seven day weeks when games are coming out, like the production process of video games by and large, I mean, obviously there are plenty of exceptions to this these days. But it's still a bad scene totally, And my gut, my gut reaction, my emotional reaction to seeing all this is that like, yeah, voice actors might not be getting their due, but the developers having way worse. But but again this, you know, yeah, was it rising rising tide raises all ships or whatever, you know, like you should make it better for everybody. Yeah, I mean if if if the voice actors get theres, then you'd you'd like to think that every well, you know, people talk about like does the video game industry need to unionize? Should games would be produced more like films, which is a conversation I feel like has been happening for years. Yeah, but it never it never really happens, Like people have this conversation that we just had, but it doesn't seem like it goes any further than that because no one wants to open that box of like, oh man, this just got way more expensive. What does that mean for the price of these games? What does that mean for our shareholders and the stock price if suddenly we're paying every person who worked on you know and this Star Wars game like way more money. Like it's that stuff gets crazy. I again, it's my gut feeling, But history, I think would bear out that it doesn't actually mean much of anything. Maybe I don't think that argument has ever held much water. Yeah, that's like Moore, we suddenly can't afford to make games, right, But that's the hand ringing, right, Like, that's that's the thing that like when when you come to the people that actually hold the purse strings with the sort of stuff, that's the dance they start, you know, because it's very much that like, oh, I don't know, we might have to bounce this onto the consumer games wanted. What if games are seventy brun it all down? I guess that's the same that's the same shitty argument being used about raising minimum wagees totally like a Hamburger's gonna be twenty dollars now, I hope you're happy or whatever like shit like that. But yeah, maybe maybe we should ask our film major here. But I'm curious like when in the evolution of Hollywood, like unions started to form there, you know, because like filmmaking is a very heavily unionized business, right although if you actually look into like the ins and outs of making movies, it sounds like people still work insane conditions, you know, right, Yeah, you wonder how Pixar works. Yeah, I don't know what the well, like you hear about CG and and like computer animation stuff and effects houses and stuff as be and kind of an uncharted frontier in terms of like kind of labor practices and movie making, like you constantly are hearing about effects houses getting uh short end of the stick on you know, being paid for stuff and like working conditions and stuff like that. But I don't know, Yeah, at some point, like you get into that situation where like, is it cheaper if we use a computer instead of shoot people because we have to pay all these people scale at minimum, like you know, if we just go get an effects house to do it and then can we change them on their rate and stuff like yeah, or just give them their rate which is probably well the same. I don't know if you've ever looked into the quote unquote creativeccounting that goes on film studios. It's fucking insane, the way that they're able to like move money around and avoid paying paying people toney that they're own. Yes, it's kind of a huge problem. But I wonder if Bruce Willis is still getting checks for Apocalypse yeahs selling tons of copies every month for Bowie with onicron yep. Yeah, yeah, look at the npds. That's why that's why there's no actual Bowie in metal gear. You know, it's because that's what we're money is so good that he's just like, oh what I know I don't need to be in any other video, like, no, don't use my song, use this other version of the song that also came out back then. But you can name the whole thing Diamond Ducks. That's fine. Yeah, you can do that. You can make everybody look like me. But that a mod where everyone just looks looks like Bowie solid Bowie. Someone started putting together like images across Metal Gear matched up to different images of Bowie. That sounds cool, and you know, at some point you look at it and go, man, has this been the plan all along? Today? Is it all just this secret David like love letters David Bowie or did Bowie planets all along? Right? Yeah? I hate the type that would do it. I've had a David Bowie is funding Omicron two and Cojima Studios, not Productions is new His new operation is going to be producing Omicron two. That's where all this is headed, Okay. I've had a very love hate relationship with Cojima and Metal Gear over the years. But having it all wrap back around Dave Bowie in the end, yeah, it's all The worst way is for it to go all right with me? I really like that that that's what is it the Midge or yeah, is the lead singer of Ultra that cover? Okay, it's a really good cover. I really like that cover. That sense it's good that covers from the eighties, right, Yeah, yeah, it's a very good eighty three eighty two. I like that song to begin with. I thought that Nirvana cover was pretty good. Yeah, yeah, I like the synthy stuff on the cover. But like you do, I miss Bowie's voice. It's just so to shanct that guy. That guy does a pretty good Bowie though. Yeah, it doesn't sound he doesn't sound that that off that far from there. They should at least have the like Lightning Face tattoo as a head option and metal or five that would be pretty good. I have no idea where this is gonna go. They're voting to strike or not early next month, early October, which could be the end of this week or next week, and then they need they need a seventy five percent yes vote from their members for this to go into effect. And I am super curious to see what happens if it comes to pass, although not that we would know until like months down the exactly, because you know, it's like the stuff for this holiday is presumably finished. On the voice front, you would assume. Yeah, And I think there were some you know, I saw some developers saying like that some of the stuff that SAG is asking for is is unreasonable for smaller games because you have cases where like if you if you go SAG, it has to be one percent sec, So you couldn't have a developer doing a voice and then a SAG actor doing a voice. You have to then suddenly like this is a union shop. Everybody has to be part of it or not, right. Uh, And that's maybe not reasonable for a lot of games, for a lot of smaller games, sure, sure, on their budgets, on their on their schedules like those those are the kinds of ins and outs of this thing that actually need to get hammered out, you know, like, hey, it's royalties for over two million copies. It sounds like kind of the marqueed demand or whatever. But yeah, you're right, it seems like I think that there's there's a room in the middle here that you know, that's why they negotiate, right, to find some room in the middle for this to work. Yeah, but we'll see if the publishers actually blink and come back to the table. I mean, what are they gonna do. I mean, you know, it's like if they could, they could just say fuck it, we're never using a sag person ever again. And then suddenly it's like the stone Age of voice acting, right, It's like we're asking for Jill Sandwiches all over again, and you know, like, hey, that maybe that's actually awesome. I don't know. I couldn't tell you, Like, I don't know if I want every game to sound like that, though, like a few here and there maybe, yeah, all right, I mean, you know, but the nice if the professionals were still making their contributions. I mean, while we're doing retro throwback video game development back to the eight bit era, like and and starting to make games that look like bad PS one games, like let's do some bad voice acting going the way, all right, but it's got to be real. I could, Yes, absolutely, it's hard to do. Uh, it's hard to imitate bad voice acting. Yeah, it's totally. Like it's hard to write a bad story. You have to really go down to the accounting department and really find somebody who has no talent for acting whatsoever and make them do it. I bet there are people in the accounting department that would do wonderful. You're probably right, you never know, Slee check. But yeah, I will be very interested to see where this goes and if actually comes to a strike or not. Jeff, I saw you posting on your tumbler about this PlayStation TV hack. Oh yeah, so you probably know more about it than I do. Yeah, you email a file to yourself or something like that, and basically you can overwrite the white list on a Vida TV or sorry, PlayStation TV. They renamed it at some point because at some point you're like, ah, well, maybe let's not sync this with the Vita branding. Anyway, you can. You can update that. You can change the white list of what games are compatible on a PlayStation TV to make it all of them, which then makes it impossible to play some games because you can't do any of the touch or you can't do all the touch stuff reliably and all of that. But yeah, it's it opens it up to let you play more games on the thing that you normally be able to. Did you mess with it at all? No? I ran through this mental checklist of like, man, now I can play all these Vita games that I was unable to play, and then I started building a list. I built the list. It had zero game on it. Man, that's not much of a list. So it's like it's neat that that exists. But I feel like the ship is sailed for the Vida TV, even for our desire to pull footage from a Vida and the Vida I think if you let me finish the sentiment, well, I think it is not sure. Like obviously they announced some new games as at TGS that are coming, and you know there will be some things on the Vida that will hopefully be of interest. But right, but you know that Sony barely cares about the Vita anymore. It's just not Oh I can't remember, was it Andrew House it was one of the Sony executives was making comments that may have come out of TGS, saying that the climate was bad for race successor to the Vida. I think that that might have been Yoshida. Okay, it's not like it's a surprised to anybody, but you know, still for them to put it down on paper, right, yeah, yeah, like they are not making any bones about the fact that that thing was not an unmitigated success. Yeah, totally. Uh, it's it's and the climate in Japan I think is even more so in favor of mobile mobile games than it is here, So you know, like that's that's a climate that is impacting the sale of consoles, not just you know, handheld. So yes, we're all the games on that were not on the white list. Was that where they just for control reasons? Uh? No, there were plenty of games they were all controller but just you know, the developer doesn't exist or anymore, or they didn't want to go back and make you know, patch it to run, or you know, like are there are tons of games that you could do little changes to the way they worked just fine, but but they just don't exist or they don't you know, they they have not been updated for whatever reason. Things are hell a cheap, No, yeah, somethings I think, like steadily at thirty dollars, not even like oh it's a fire sale price, get it now. It's like no, like the regular price of that thing. I can't count how many TV Sorry, I don't know how many times I've seen that and been like, man, at thirty bucks, I'd be stupid not to. And I think about it, it's like it's just another dumb thing. It's gonna sit in my random like chronics. I had that exact conversation with myself, and it took me about five to ten seconds to arrive at the fact that like a nope, like the satisfaction of getting that thing for very cheap price is nowhere near the annoyance of having it sitting around. You could remote play a PS four to it, so if I from a room in your house or yeah, but not if I if I traveled and set it up in a hotel room with good WiFi and my PlayStation at home is in the rest mode, should I be able? I assume so I could. I've never gotten the Vida stuff to work reliable theoretically, so, and I could pack just like a dual Shock four and at PlayStation TV, which would carry on. But have you ever remote played before? I was thinking about playing Destinate tonight. I mean, you can put as far as I could probably do that fine. But the thing I was going to say is that even on my own home network, I have had like less than optimal experiences with that, Like it'll it'll chop up, it'll it'll lag out occasionally, like it's it's very situation. I haven't tried in ages, but like when I was hot to give that whole thing a shot, I just could never get the vida to connect properly. It's very spotty. I got it to connect, and with games that don't work out, like if you try to play like Super meat Boy or something like you know, very platform heavy, that no chance. But like I think Destiny should be playable. Maybe that's pretty twitch. If you're doing a lot of fob missions on PS four, you know you can, Yeah, so they're doing your combat, your menu shit. In fact, I use I use remote play for that very thing. But that's the other issue is that obviously that thing doesn't have as many buttons as the PS four controller, and I don't like using the rear touch for the triggers and stuff either likes or even aids or melee like it's never or sometimes you have to touch the front screen to do stuff like that. I don't like the way that those things get mapped. It's just not a great experience. Uh, it's very useful when your PS four fails to sync the save file you need for a quick look though, and your remote play into your PS four at home and upload the save manually because it didn't work. That's super handy. That is the one thing I have ever found the remote play to be very useful for last news story, Black Ops three, that's a called duty game. Okay, you're right, Yeah, it is less of a call due to game on the last gen consoles. As it turns out, those versions will not have a campaign. Yeah, yes, right, that seems. It will have zombies and it'll have the competitive multiplayer, but it will not have the campaign, and it will not have what is it the other two things we're like, there's a weapon paint shop, and there's dark a suite of e sports tools will also not beyond those versions of the games. Yeah, activist issue a statement and kind of saying like, hey, we're doing this that we just we cannot get the campaign onto these old machines. So that version will sell for fifty bucks. Fifty yes, Okay, we have this conversation earlier. I know this is not this is not how they're looking at it. They set the price based on what they think they can sell it for. But still, yeah, they're kind of saying, what ISIGN is worth about ten? What is that saying about their kind of saying that the campaign is worth about ten dollars yep, which I you know there. I went through some trophy percentages and stuff like that for Advanced Warfare MPs four when I was writing this up, and yeah, you know, there's are there are plenty of people that never touch fucking campaign in a Call of Duty game. I think, would you say like halfhead player half played the first mission and then like a twenty five percent had finished the camp that's actually higher than I would Yeah, I was finishing it, but it's yeah, it's still not very high. So if you think about seventy five percent of the players not finishing the campaign, at some point, it's like, oh, you know, this is not why people are coming to Call of Duty. So on that end, I make sense. So there, yeah, so what is it? It's it's fifty bucks on three sixty NPS three, no campaign, and they're including a digital download code for Black Ops one, which seems bizarre because I would assume a huge number of people that are buying Black Ops three on old consoles probably also already have Black Ops one on those consoles. Cost activisions zero dollars to include that gives them something to point out when people complain. Yeah, even if that's a bad like not a great solution, it's it's something. I don't know if they'd give it them, like both of the other Black Ops games, I might be with them on that. Yeah, I guess it. A slightly more positive way to look at this if you're wanting to play the game on the new consoles is like, oh, they may have scoped this thing in such a way that it actually takes advantage of their hardware to some extent. One would help. I don't know, like we took a look at it back at E three, like like, you know, they showed some demos of it and stuff like that, and it's it's coop. I don't know. It looked like a bigger area, but it didn't seem that big and seem that different. I guess they showed there. But at the same time, I feel like there are cases like m Just five and Destiny that you can look at where like those are games made for both generations and you can like point two specific things about the visual presentation of those games and go like thought looks like something from last gen. You know, Yeah, because they have to account for right, like they're not gonna They're not gonna build two completely different sets of assets. Yeah, but with the bulk, with the bulk of this game still appearing on old consoles, like I think this is the worst of both worlds or something, right, I don't know, we'll see, but uh yeah, I don't know. The presence of a co op campaign didn't necessarily fill me with like, oh, man, Call of Duty campaign, I'm psyched. It's just it's like, okay, that that could be neat. I don't know, you hammer spikes down and it blows stuff up. Okay, sure that was that E three demo. I don't know. I I enjoyed Advanced Warfare, but I don't know that I could do a Call Duty game every year. You guys, you guys are pretty consistent, right, yeah, but I mean I'm kind of the opposite to where I always play through the campaign right away, and I like that. It just feels like a big dumb action movie. Do you think you'll want to seek out through other people and play through the campaign that way? Yeah, maybe I'll find one or two that want to do that. I mean, they're short enough for you can do it in a couple of sittings. Yeah, but yeah, I usually like Prestige once or whatever and then I'm done with it. But yeah, I mean the first thing I do is the campaign, So yeah, I mean, you know, it's and you know, we've both reviewed a lot of those games, and that's typically how you play them. As you play through the campaign, knock that out, and then you know, like to review it. You obviously to do that, and then you're like, all right, now let's get into the multiplayers. So yeah, left to my own devices, I don't know that I would always finish the campaigns. Interesting, Yeah, there's been a lot of Call of Duty games. There have been a lot of them, a lot. What is this, Let's see there is four in the World at War. It's gotta be this has gotta be getting into double digits now, right, let's see this. We have World at Wars five, then Black Ops, then Modern Warfare two, then Black Ops two, Modern Warfare three, Ghosts, Ghosts Advanced Warfare Warfare. So that's so this is twelve eleven or twelve. This one is twelve Black Ops three's Call of Duty twelve the I past final Fantasy Call Duty has beaten out Tony Hawk. Yeah, handling Tony Hawk made it to one eight nine, there's Project eight eight was eight, and then then there's proving grounds after that, yeah, which that was nine. So this would be hen if you don't count downhill Jam non ride and right right, Call Duty's got a good run going. Yes, it's a good streak it. Yeah, they've made a lot of money. Yeah, they'll they'll, they'll, they'll still make a lot more money. Even if it's not as big as it used to be, it's still pretty big. So but I'm looking forward to seeing what sledge Hammer does next, Like they did a great job on their first time at the plate so well, first real time at the place. Sure, yeah, yeah, totally. I just it's for as much, even as much as I like to advance warfare, like I think, I think that the fatigue doesn't stop on that stuff, like yeah, it's it's still fun and to see the new maps and the new movement stuff that now they're doing. You know. But I had this vision the other day as I was thinking about, like, oh man, what are the shooters going to be this year? It's like okay, well Battlefront, like okay, that could be cool. Call of Duty, you know, And then I had this like thing that came to me, they're going to make Titan Fall two at some point. Yeah, oh yeah, I don't work on that. For a while, they all that said they were doing it, and I was like, oh man, that I could actually really go for a new Titan. Yeah cool. Well, especially because like it was a cool first attempt at that type of thing. But like with all the knowledge of the game from it, you know, like knowing what worked and what didn't work, what people liked and disliked, like they the second time out could be pretty interesting for that. Yeah, yeah, I wonder, Yeah, I just I wonder what the data points to for making a sequel to that game in terms of like, like what do you change? I can't. I eventually got to a point with that game where like the Titans were kind of lead the least interesting part about it, and the mobility wasn't interesting part. Well, it was cool that they let you kind of choose to staff, but you didn't have to play with the titanles. You could have it be AI controlled and it did you know, but also like you reviable as a person on foot against big robots. Yeah, like you had weapons that could counteract that stuff and things like that, but then all these other shoes worked mobility into their controls, so like a Titan Fall two that is just kind of doubling down on the mobility stuff, Like I don't know that that does it, So I think, like, instead it has to be this major revisit of what the Titans do and how like that's what I would like to see, is like, like, let's rework the Titans to make them a little less cumbersome and like if they were a little more nimble Mecca instead of gigantic tanks or something, you know, like that, Well, that's a very clear philosophical divide, right, do you want your robots to be ninjas or do you want them to be tanks? I think I actually want them to be ninjas really, But then at that point, are they just bigger versions of your on foot stuff? And is that okay? You know they should feel different. But at the same time, like I got to the point where it's just the Titans felt too like clunky either two, too cumbersome, which is by design, but it just it was not It was not what I enjoyed about the game anymore. So maybe this is the fan of pain talking, but I would like to see some like a deeper metagame aspects to it, like some MEC management, you know, to mech R and D something like that. Play is Vince MacMahon. Yeah, and you have to manage this entire federation of Max Robot Wrestling. Okay, Robot Wrestling Federation. Yes, all right, cut this part out of the podcast because we're gonna go make this game. That's fair. Uh, you know, I would like to see some some more progression around the mech types and customization and stuff like that totally. I mean, yeah, the problem with Titan follows that there was not enough. They need more gear, more options, much like you know, much like a lot of games last generation, like you kind of come out with your new IP and the first attempt is like good and you can see where they're going with it, but the second one is where they nail it. So that could be cool. It is time for some emails bombast emails that were sent to BombCast a giant bomb dot com. Okay, let's read something Nick and Portsmouth new hasher Hey bomb. I am twenty one years old and growing up I never played a Saga console. My family had fluctuating money and therefore I had to miss some consoles went from nes N sixty four to PS one, PS two and Xbox three sixty I played a Saga Genesis for the first time a year ago, and maybe I'm missing something. Was it loved because the nes was at the tail end of its life and the Genesis was something new. Anyways, have a good day, people, here's what you're missing a soul m Yeah, that's a good answer. Yeah, no, it's I mean, yeah, like some of that stuff is nostalgia and if you weren't there and it's not going to be meaningful to you. There was also there were better versions of like big games like Mortal Kombat, and all the Mortal combats were better on Genesis Nbajam I thought was better on Yea. It's stuff to like, you know, like totally like a lot of those arcade games coming to consoles, Like you don't care about them at all now because it's easy enough to play the actual arcade version. You're like, no one gives a shit about the Genesis version of MK. But at the time that was what you had. It was huge, Like the fatalities were completely borked on the on the seven later on, he's right to an extent because the Genesis came out in what eighty nine, yeahs, and so for that god that was like the Genesis launch was fucking a little rough. But yea, I remember I got it came with Altered Beasts. Yeah, and I never was a huge Altered Beast fan. I mean, it's it's and I bought shitty, simplistic arcade games. It is. It's a show piece for the system, that's about it. I bought Forgotten Worlds because I really liked the arcade version of Forgotten Worlds, but that's also an arcade game. And then I took those games home and promptly finished both of them the day I bought the console, hundreds of dollars for these games that I had already finished in arcades, and it was like, man, this is actually like at some point, like paying that much money for these cartridges is a shitty like, hey, here's a version of the game that's not quite as good you can pay way more for compared to just going and finishing it in an arcade. Like the value prop for games at that point was fucked. Games were short and simple back then, you know, that's just kind of the way things were. Yeah, but unless you got Fantasy Star too, right, Yes, and then you were like okay, now we're talking, or you know, then they got into some of their own like you know, there was Alex Kidney Enchanted Castle, which is not a great game. Take that back. It was not a great game. Take it back, did the store. No, fuck you, guys, it's not a it's not a great game. It's like kind of a mess. It's like kind of a mess. It's it's a beautiful like the way it looks, it looks, it's got so crazy, it's got a crazy cool art stuff. Yeah. Yes, I'm totally with you, alright. And they did like Space Harrier two. It was like, here's the console only sequel to Space Harrier. Like, by the way, it's not as good as the regular Space here. Yeah, but I mean so to his point, there was a significant period of time where the Genesis was out and the Supremios was not right, and in that period of time, it was like this beats the ship out of the Nintendo. Yeah, but it was still like you're playing Last Battle, which is this poorly localized fist of the North Star game. Like a lot of the games that were out on the Genesis early word bad then, but like my friend got a Genesis at launch and I went to his house and fucking lost my mind over it. Yeah, because at some point you're like, so like I've somehow managed to luck my way into some more money, like the day after I got that Genesis, or the day following that, or like within a couple of days I was able to go back and buy another game. I went back and I bought Golden Knacks, I mean, and then brought it home and fucking finished it. It was fun terrible. It's probably the best of those three. Yeah, Forgotten Worlds a really good You're flying dude, It's where Zenny comes from, you know Enny for mine, first time seeing Zenny. Yeah, so you know, it was like one of those things where you had to be interested in the idea of like it's like the Arcade experience at home, because it was getting closer and closer to that, or that's just the first console you had, Sure, and then once that happens, you are like you have an affinity for Saya for life. Yeah, but they rated that happened to me. I mean, there were tons of amazing Genesis and I was and some of them you know, fancies Are two is a huge game to jam and earl is a massive experience. Ye quack shot quack shot quacko. You can only play that there. Actually, there might have been a game gear version, right, I don't know what there was. But if you wanted to play Shaikan the Forever Man, you only had a couple of consoles to choose from, and the Genesis was the best one. But there's a better solution. Don't play Chicon forever Man. Okay, some good round Stimpy games on Genesis, Stimpy's Idiot Machine or whatever it was. That was when I played a lot of Man. How about East Watt? Yeah, Swatt, that was a that was That's why you had more to it than the arcade versions. It's like SWAT, but with E you take a bunch of ecstasy and then you just feel shirts. I don't know if you arrest people, what does that even mean? Electronics electronic swat, I don't know. I mean that was cops. That was my assumption. I mean, you did turn into a cyborg at one point, but totally did. The days of Giant Demonic and LANMORER, many days of Yeah B so B original cyberpunk future Saya consoles were cool. Yeah, there's just something quirky about him. I don't know. Yeah, I mean I like, I actually had a big like moment after or I bought a master system where I was like, man, I fucked up. I had that was Sega CD. I think I traded in my nes and all my games to get Sega CD, and I only had Seward Shark which came with it, and devid a f rage. I mean, we were we were young and naive. Seemed like it was going to be amazing. It did, and it was my first CD player, I guess at Sherlock Holmes game. It had real people in it and they were really doing stuff, and I managed to silphied talk to you. I managed to get a hold of a Sega CD before it was widely released. This was right around the time that I was starting to kind of go to trade shows and stuff like that, and borrowed one from someone who would receive one for review. And I had my night Trap one percent list before the console was officially released, and I send it into EGM and they didn't print it. Man, yeahs. Speaking of EGM, I watched a bunch of Attitude Error ros this weekend and I saw a bunch of sushi X signs. It was the most nineteen ninety eight shit I could have seen. That's ridiculous the idea, I mean to me, The ridiculous part is that like in the late nineties there were still people that were like into that. Yeah, because I remember that, like ninety four ninety five, the Review Crew stuff. Yeah, that was the heyday. Was was eight to sixteen. Bit Yeah for me for that magazine. This is like deep in like PlayStation sixty four territory and here dude's bringing sushi sides. I didn't even think it was saying dude at that point, like they had already weren't there, It had already become someone else by that. I don't know that. Yeah, it was said, Sammad's still there. I don't know that it was there that laid into the I don't probably not. I don't remember probably that stuff some blur that was about the time that I was the Games in Computer Entertainment. Now that's a magazine. Yes, that's worth knowing. The laures. Yes, like when Nintendo cut off Andyetti because he wrote that thing about the fucking game Genie or whatever. He's too raw. Andyetti's too fucking real. He can't be controlled. He was. It wasn't long after that I think that he was no longer with the magazine. He put it together. Man, Yeah, that Dudetti's great. He is that magazine. The first byline in video game writing that I that I cared about was like, what did Andy Eddie have to say? And in the letter to the editor all that magazine. That magazine was extra so good because we didn't have a computer, so half of that magazine just looked like the most amazing. Yeah. I was like, who gets to play these games? I want to? I want to go to their house? Right? Oh? Man, all right? It was the magazine that didn't write down to you like it wasn't written for fucking kids. It was that was that was an intelligent piece of work, for sure. Great. I've still got all my old back issues, all those the ones I kept. When I went through my garage, I threw out just about all of my video game magazines. I kept all the vgcs and some of the Next Generations because the paper Stiffs. Next Generation was such a nicely produced magazine. The only thing I actually really liked about Next Gen was that the papers. I remember liking the magazine or Next Gen would always have the covers of just like a plug it all model and be like, yes, this is a real screenshot. Yeah. PC Gamer did a lot of that back then too, like a real cover and stuff. Some of that doesn't hold up so well, that's an unreal one in particular. You know, it's like, no, I totally believe that there's this two hundred polygon character model blown up to magazine size. You won't believe this is a real bit Like Insight magazine. That's where it's at. They had two magazines, to remember, I subscribe side was two magazines. There was the video game one and like the Celebrity one, Celebrity Entertainment one was like, oh, this girl from this upn show, Son of the Beach is on the cover of Insight, like in a bikini holding at sixty four or the Rock was on the first issue, right. I think I might have subscribed to both. PC PC Accelerator was another one of those that was basically like let's let's be maximum for video games or whatever. It's like we're gonna interview Kid Rock while he plays Wu Tang style, have a bunch of durls. Yeah, that was all Compute. That was all German money pumping the inside empire for like the brief period of time that it existed, like and they was they were MCV I think, yeah, maybe so, and that was and then they moved into our building. They were in the second building of one floor below us really due Yeah, they stole one of our people, the people doing insight. We're in the building. Yeah, what Christians Fenson was I see that thing or something like he was parking his like I remember, like everyone would say that it was a company car and he was had a Porsche and people were like, what the fuck, why how does a fucking video game editor afford that car? What's going on? Yeah, I don't know, but yeah, they were. They were one floor below us, and there was this like email or at some point it's like we need to make sure we keep off the doors lock because anyone could just walk in through loose cannons. Yeah what they might do. But they were, you know, we were in and then upstairs with Sega. Yeah, but yeah there. That was around the time that I think that we were splitting from tech TV, so like Game Spot TV had to change names. I remember walking through the We used to park in the parking garage and walk through the zd TV or whatever the tech TV area to get to our space because we were still the same company at that point. I remember walking through there one morning and Delo Brown was there. How was he doing there? They were you know, I was just doing something for the show best On I probably probably, Yeah, he was totally shaking his head as crazy he's uh, And we got to briefly shake Delo Brown's hand. You've never washed your hands since then? Right? No? I have not. I keep it low down. Yeah, you've got a main frog splash now the meanest. All right, Well, why don't we keep this throwback train rolling with this email from Jason? Uh, not quite as far back in time, but here we go. I think I might be caught any time loop. Sometimes I listened to old bomb casts, and some from two thousand and eight have been a little unsettling. Topics of discussion for September thirtieth, two thousand and eight, the new Fallout game, the differences between the new Guitar Hero and the new rock Band, speculation about Nintendo's next handheld What a pain in the ass going to Tokyo Game Show is teaser info for a new Halo game, wondering what the hell net to Know was doing with digital game sales. The E three podcasts from earlier in the year even featured discussion of people circulating a petition to cancel Final Fantasy thirteen for Xbox. A lot of the recent petition to cancel the new Metro game Did I Fall through a Wormhole? Hasn't always been like this? Was there a petition to cancel Super Mario Brothers two that I miss somehow Ever, since the Internet became the Internet has always been like this. Yeah. No, no one started a petition for Super Mario Brothers too because there was no one had him. There was no way to congregate and be angry together. Oh I think you know the bigger The bigger theme here is just oh yeah, sequel driven business at some point, cyclical blah blah blah. You know. Now try now, try covering that industry for more than one of those sites, yes, and having fresh faced people around going like what if we did this style of coverage And you're in the position to say, like, did that ten years ago? That's why it didn't work right? And then they go off and do it anyway, It's like whatever. Also contemplate why you might be harder to impress by things after you've seen all of them three to four times over the last fifteen years. You know, perspective is valuable, I guess so, Like the alternative is that every single thing off the street blows you away, and that's not helpful to anyone either. No, definitely not. Uh. All that said, I really want to play a new Fallout. Yeah, yeah, it was seven years. Has there been anything since E three? Really? If they know, they've been putting out little bits and pieces, but they just showed so much at E three. I think they were like, well, you know what, it's gonna be out in a few months. Here's a ton now, now just shut up until it's out. That's that's not that far away. Surprisingly, six five weeks, five six weeks. I'm gonna try to finish that before just costs a little unnerving. Actually, yeah, there's like you could kind of count off the big games coming out for the rest of the instance point. It's really weird that we've like it's been like the past three weeks or so now that it's been like, what have you been playing like I have more Metal Gear, more Mario and now Destiny. It's like and that's and obviously they're you know, there's stuff, there's undertail, there's all this other stuff there's coming out, and there's always there's always this kind of like background hum of cool indie games coming out, right, Grand Spheres. It's certainly not to say that we only care about Triple A games, but like kind of putting on your we cover video games professionally hat, like you have to care about those to some extent, you know, I'm just interested in them, like now more than ever because that business is so different, Like the business for the huge, big budget games is so weird, Like what does it even mean anymore? I'm gonna say, Okay, Hilo five, Assassin's Creed, Syndicate, tumb Raider, Fallout, Call of Duty, StarCraft, Star Wars Battlefront, Yes, Chest Cause Rainbow six, Siege Track Mania, sneak that one in there. I'm trying to anybody. Yeah, I got delayed eight years ago, like March February, right, right, I think that's it in terms of big ten pole, big budge of games. Yo, She's a wildly world. Yeah. Still not us, right, still us I can't think of much else. Arkham Knight PC's yet coming back Arkham Night PC. That fall release, it'll fare much better this time of the year. Of course, all those re reviews will be much kinder. I'm sure. I think that's kind of the year. It's a good one. As much as I can Transformers Devastation keep it all together in my head. Yes, I want to play that. Fuck that looks I mean realistically, I'm sure I'm gonna play it long enough to go like, man, that looks like the old cartoon. That's cool, and then move on. I feel like, but I still want to play it. I am a little concerned because I feel like it's getting a similar treatment as Tony Hawk is in terms of like how it gets. On the one hand, I want to be like, it is not, it is not. Well. I don't know about this. I thought it's not out yet. It's not. It's always in October. They still have time to send it out. Yeah, I don't. I don't know. I don't mean that at all. I just mean, like in terms of what they've put out, like like Activisions clearly behind Guitar Hero and Call of Duty and Skylanders and Destiny to a lesser extent that's not fully there. So it's you know, uh, you don't really hear much about Transformers. Well, I mean it's not even a full price things to hawk is a full price thing, but you don't hear much about that either. Ah, you know that could be. I don't know a number of things. It doesn't necessarily mean it's it's On the one hand, I want to say, hey, it's Platinum, like it'll probably be solid. But then again, people seem pretty down on that legion of Corey game, so Platinum has it within them to put out a middling game, I suppose, even though the track record is pretty good. Uh. Chris from Cleveland, Ohio has a favor. I just want to see if anybody wants take them up on it. I was recently engaged and have been through the process of trying to make sure that everything is place for our wedding. The one thing that we're still missing is who will perform the marriage ceremony. Would Dan, Jeff, Brad Drew or Jason be open and open to coming out to Cleveland and marrying us. I'd like to extend an open invitation to anyone in the Giant Bond East office as well. This is a long shot, but either way, thank you guys for blah blah blah blah blah. It was here. I would do it, Yeah, would you? Yeah? Would you actually go through the process, like you can't just shot God ordained in college? God, you're already ordained. Yeah, Jesus, I don't know if that holds up. I don't know if I still have my certificate. I don't think I need to get my certificate sent to me so I could marry my friends. Is that something that you need to get renewed or I don't Did you ever perform a ceremony? My friend Brian was going to have me do it, but then he wound up breaking up with the girl by the wedding. So no, So you've never actually extra exercised here. No, but I would look up the proper things, the magic words you have to say to make marriages happen, our hours vested in you. I think it's just signing paperwork. Yeah, you can say stand there and do a thing and say whatever you want. Yeah, I have to throw rice at someone. I think you have to throw rice at Okay that is legally, it doesn't matter who but it has to be right, right, duck, it doesn't matter. But but you're not not not down for a trip to Ohio so much? Not so much. I'm curious about Ohio, but I actually kind of don't want to be ordained. That's fair moral objection. All right, Well, sorry Chris. You guys want to relocate the wedding, Maybe maybe we can make regulations, Maybe we can make something happen. Congratulations, Yes, Drew, I have here a relatively technical email in response to a question you had about fortsa All right, do you want me to read it? Yes? Okay, I hope it's not too dry for you or for everybody else. It's from Ivan. In racing game Quick Looks, you guys often comment on the fact that racing lines and driver names show up on the hood reflections, most recently in the forts of six Quick Look, Yes, because that I've never actually noticed that before. Like literally the hood elements, like the player names are reflected on the hoods, right, and we we posited that it was easy computationally to do that because you are simply reflecting reflecting the rendering. Well, how about I read on and confirm or deny? Ivan says, may I offer an explanation as a graphics engineer, what Drew suspects is correct. It's a cost saving measure. In the hood view, the game is rendering the hood in a separate pass ie. The image of the game world without the hood already exists in memory before the hood is rendered, so the game can simply take this image, flip it, distort it, and use it as a reflection on the hood. The perspective is slightly incorrect with this technique, but nobody ever notices that different techniques are used for exterior body or rearview mirrors because they reflect things outside the player's field of view. Now, for reasons that are too technical and boring to mention, you cannot apply post effects such as motion blur and depth of field to the scenery first and then render the racing lines and driver names afterwards. They won't be compositive correctly. Furthermore, the post effects must be applied first before the result can be used as a reflection map. The consequence of these two limitations is that racing lines on driver names are baked into the reflection map and thus show up on the hood. There are ways around this problem, but they involve either more memory usage or compromised visual quality or a performance hit. To most developers, it's simply not a problem worth solving. Huh awesome, that's gools up. There you go. I hope you find that edifying. How so, I'm pleased to know that my hypothesis was correct. Yeah, there you go. You're ready to become a game developer? All right? Lead the charge. There's a bit of a breaking update. It seems like a lot of Twitch streamers were provided copies of Tony Hawk. Really well, every reviewer was told copies would not be available. Really, you don't know a single like reviewing press outlet that got a copy. I mean, we'll see if reviews hit tomorrow magically or something like that. But I know all of the gaming outlets in this building, and of a handful that are not, ye, no access, they do not have copies. Twice in this podcast that you've mentioned this exact scenario playing out. Yeah, who would have thought, you know, it's entirely they're progative. If you want people to cover the lego thing, you send it to people that unbox videos and say look at how cool this stuff is. Sure, Sebastian, This kind of ties into a conversation. Yet earlier, I've been thinking about a topic brought up by a listener a few weeks ago about somebody making a throwback PlayStation one style game. What I'm wondering is whether or not you think people in say, ten years, could become nostalgic for games made in the earlier to early to mid two thousands. Imagine a game with the art style and graphical fidelity of Time Splitters or the original Halo. If that does happen, does it not stand a reason that there will be a day when games being made today are being looked at as some retro inspiration for the next great indie hit. Will every generation of games constantly have a retro following. You'd probably see examples of this reality when looking at movies and how many communities are built around the many different eras of film. Can it happen with games? At some point, the work it would take to make a game look fake old is more than it would take to make it look modern sharp with that stuff, Because to make a game look like an old Halo, at some point you're like, well, we need to apply filters that make the textures. You know, we need to have deliberately muddy textures. We need to have a filter that makes the resolution look like it's That game also has a style, like, it has an artistic style that you could, yes, like apply even if you are rendering it like four K or whatever. You could still apply those sentiments. But like, I don't think that means that that art style is specific to it particular era exactly. Yeah, arts art styles, I mean, yeah, I mean the concept of a sci fi sort of thing. I mean it, Halo puts its own spin on it, absolutely, but you know that that's spin around. Yeah, this is an interesting consplitters like you play as a monkey or something like, you know, you want to make some kind of crazy shooter, like yeah. Maybe my feeling about the evolution of graphics and games is that the time he's talking about, like right around PS two original Xbox era, is right around the time that art styles started becoming decoupled from like the hardware limitations, you know, like what the machines could do. You know, it's like like pixel art came about, because that's all that those old consoles could do. The original three D consoles like PlayStation one, we're super fucking limited and like that stuff. Just pulls up miserably as a result. Like yeah, I mean between you know, online kind of becoming more of a thing, and then the visuals kind of getting to a certain level of fidelity like that PS two Xbox GameCube generation was where we started, right with what we have now. Yeah, so everything from that point on to me just feels like the smooth gradient of like, well, stuff started looking better and better, but like the artistic side of it kind of was showing through regardless. So I don't know that you can I don't know if you're incordon off these eras of games in the last ten fifteen years the way you could with like like eight bit looks this way in sixteen bit looks this way, right, Like everything kind of runs together to me, if that's probably just that's just how I feel about it, But yeah, no, I think you're right. You go back to like PS one, you have like swimmy polygons and stuff like, like stuff that like is signature like super low po like everyone's trying to make something look like pandemonium. Yeah no, why would But back then, it's like, all right, I guess that's what platforms look like. Now it's best on end gauge right. To be fair, I guess this question is not really limited to graphics though, you know, he could be talking about like trends in game design or blah blah blahe tone, yeah totally. You know, like like you mentioned the Gill Sandwich stuff. You know, like that is a thing you could imitate sure stylistically, that doesn't have anything to do without looks, you know, right, yeah, yeah, but I think that you know, like the types of modes you see in games, and like that's that's all part of your smooth gradient. You know, that's all part of like or you know, the fidelity and controls and the homogenization of control schemes across games and genres and that sort of stuff, right, that all started, well, the control scheme stuff maybe started more around three sixty three, Like that stuff started to happen more and more, like the expectation of the dual analog right controllers. Like a lot of the stuff that Halo one laid down is still in use today, you know. Yeah, I like that stuff was just kind of a volutionary process. Like metal gear has a fucking look up thing to figure out if you're inverted or normal, you know, like, yeah, video games Mason in South Carolina, we also know how Oh wait, I'm sorry, this is a different email. He's got a he's got a nuts and bolts question about getting stuff out of Japan. Alright, let's talk about that. Is how many propellers can I put on? How many do you want? No? Nine? You'd probably do that? Okay? Up with that? What if what if the car was just made out of engines? Do it? What if the entire thing, with the whole body was just engines? Do it? Yep? Okay, I'll cut propellers on those engines, by those engines around Okay, I want to put wheels on the engine and then a propeller on the wheel. Salt got the game for you? That game sounds pretty good, Mason. Mason is basically looking for a little how to advice that I thought, Jeff, you might be able to advise on. On last week's podcast, you talked about possibly importing APS four from Japan once the price hits. My question isn't necessarily just about the PS four, but importing in general. I unfortunately have the amibo bug and a lot yeah, and a lot of the amibo that are rare here are still selling around or at MSRP in Japan on Amazon. I'm interested in trying to import them, but having never done it, I have no idea where to start. My general understanding is that you need to set up a forwarding address of some sort. But that's about as far as my knowledge of importing goes. So my question is, if the answer is not too convoluted or anything, where should I start? If I want to get into this, you gotta put the amibo in with the coffee beans, Okay, so that throws off the dogs. Yeah, and then they can't smell it said right now. So I have ordered CDs directly from Amazon Japan, had them shipped to me. Okay, you can do that, and no weird, no tom foolery with fake addresses, no fake addresses, no nothing. Amazon Japan is in like you can read it or is it like Google? They have a read this in English button. It turns it's not the product name or the product descriptions. Those don't change, but like the buttons and the Amazon would check out now, a lot of that stuff will change in the ALA too. Yeah, and that's been fine for that. They will not send you video games because the video games get anything that they they deem is like a regional thing that would have region coding, they just won't ship it. I don't know if that's something that like the people making the products determine or whatever. So for cases like that, I would go to like a play Asia NCS still exists. That's what I had to do for Tetrish. Yeah, yeah, I've been. I've been, I say it, order most of my stuff from play Asia lately, play Hyphensia, hyphen Asia. I've ordered from them ages ago. They were pretty sold and they've been They've been pretty reliable. It's not like in this case though, he's specifically trying to get that stuff for cheap from Japan because here it's it's the prices are insane. So it's possible because those are goods and not software, that Amazon Japan might just say it to you, but I don't know. It might be because it comes from Nintendo and it's technically a WEU thing, it might fall under the gaming kind of embargo for for their shipping guidelines, which is a lot more complicated. So you could just try to order one and see what happens and see if they will ship it to you. Worst they can do say no, right, and then send the swat to your house exactly, fuck you up, pop cargo ship. Yeah, but yeah you could also. Yeah, there are probably mail drop services that would do that sort of thing too, So if you needed to ship it in country to somewhere, you could get it chips. I've not I've never used one of those services, but on my understanding is that they do exist. I have another idea, all right, don't buy amibos. Yeah, if you're saving, it depends on how much money you're saving, you're saving a lot of money. At some point, just fly over there and get them. Yeah, it's also an option. Bring two suit cases, another case in this suitcase, go buy all the amibos. You can then come back here and sell them for twice as much to the fucking rubes. Fund your trip. Fund your trip. Oh man, let's move on. It's going kind of dark road, Matthew. Right, So what does email? With the upcoming NBA two case sixteen being a Spike Lee joint in quotes, it got me thinking. While video games have had somewhat of a dubious past with film directors being involved, I think it's mostly because it's a novelty type involvement with no real investment from the filmmaker due to them not fully understanding the medium and then not having the time to do so. If one investment to making the game was there and time was not an issue, what film director would you like to see get involved in video gaming and what franchise would you like to see them become involved with. I'd love to see Martin Scorsese you get his hands on a Liberty City stories of some kind, or perhaps Woody Allen working on a dating sim Yeah, that one's it's a living director thing and can't say, like Kuper go for it. Yeah. What series would Couper take over? Yeah? Maybe Metal Gear? Yeah? All right, God, I don't know. Stanley Cooper's not There's not a lot out there that would really fit with his sensibilities, like the Witness or something maybe I don't know why. Yeah, like living like Tarantino would be obvious. What is up with the Spike Lee thing? By the way, I hadn't even heard that. I mean I think it was was last year's game. The soundtrack was executive produced by jay Z. Like they've been trying to slap celebrity names onto the basketball game is like a tangible thing. It's like, all right, he hand picked his songs or whatever. But like, hell, there's there's a career mode. There's a story mode where you were kind of coming up through the ranks and such. And I think that that Spike Lee like consulting on it or directing it or something like that. I don't know, weird. I don't know what the actual involvement is there. Uh yeah, I don't know. I don't I don't keep track of directors enough to have anything to say. I would be curious to see Duncan Jones do something, so I followed him on Twitter and he plays a lot of games. I mean, he's directing that Warcraft movie now, which I don't know. There you go. But he made Moon source code day Terence Malick, Oh god, I don't know. Takes you like six hours to get past the title screen. Yeah, I don't know about that. On a thin red line game. Yeah, did Terry Gilliam die? No? He didn't. That was a who was that variety? I think was the one. Yes, it was the eulogy thing like the Actually they accidentally pushed the pre written obituary, which man, that's how does that got to make you feel when you see your own obituary, it's like, wow, really that's what you think of me? Like I got one foot in the grave already, Like fucking thanks, still over here and make it stuff. Thats what a dark business that must be to be the person writing those. Yeah, and this one didn't even have any of the you know, the variables filled in, so it was just like xxx where the date would be or how old he would be or whatever. You know, it was just like it was the skeleton of an obituary without any of real information in it. You think that that's one of those things that the Chinese robots should be building, honestly, Like that's just a this person passed away. It's like, Okay, we're gonna go. We're gonna scrape IMDb for movie names and box offices and figure out which ones and Rotten Tomatoes scores. These are the three most popular things this person did natural language algorithms to craft totally personalize Oh man, I mean you know think about that. You know, you would you rather be the human that is like having to write about these like sad events, sure, you know, especially when it's like a berieved family member that has to put it together when it's like probably last thing they want to think about it, right, Yeah, sure I could see that. All right, let's move on. That got depressing. Yeah uh, let's see it's a long, linded email. Then I'll read it anyway. Hey, guys, love the show. Sorry it's from Dallas and Albany. That's confusing, Yes it is. I came I'll Gord earlier this year while he was searching for anything and everything blood Borne related and been listening ever since. I was just curious about other people's PS fours and if their system fan is loud as shit too. I've only owned mine since April, bought it for blood Borne actually, and not long after that I noticed the fan in the PS four was going ham. It would be louder required depending on how the system was running. Right now, I notice it is incredibly loud. Whenever I am in my helicopter before picking emission in MGS five, I see a lot of nodding heads in here. Ye yeah mine, yes, Having left it at that screen to run deployments for hours, I can vouch that thing. Yes, even on PS four, Like there were some people that said the Emblem editor on PC would like to make their system go like three frames a second and go nuts. I heard about that bug, and I feel like on the PS four even like when I edited emblems, it's is when it got the loudest, interesting, weird. It's very concerning since I've only owned mine for less than a month before I started noticing it. I've heard from other friends, however, that there's doesn't make a peep. Thankfully, the system itself doesn't ever seem to get too hot. But I would definitely be interested to hear about your guys systems and how loud they might be. If you guys know any surefire tips or an accessory that would help with fan noise and system heat, I would love to hear it. I think that's just what they do. Like. The solution is that the newer ones are apparently quieter. Yeah, the new ones are. Digital Foundry did a test that I think they're like not that much like successibles quieter, but it's still something. I've got the Destiny one last year and that seems to be pretty quiet really. Yeah, the white one, Yeah, I hear mine from across the room. It's fucking super. It got louder over time. You think, do you. I mean, why would it do? Why would that happen? I have no idea. Is it caked up dust the leading to more tripping the sensors. There's there's a ton of people out there who have, like people have written to me about this before. There are a lot of people that will take it apart and put on new thermal paste. Oh supposedly the like the heat like dries up the old thermal paste and makes it shitty, And they claim if you put more on there than it gets better. I don't know that's gonna avoid your warranty anyway, kidding, So it's kind of a gamble. I looked at the tear for the thing. I was like, I don't care enough to actually try this. I think I would sooner like sell my existing PS four and by another one than I wouldn't mess with something like that. Yeah, but but it is like unfortunately too loud, like considering especially how quiet the Xbox is. It's never been it's never been an annoyance in my setup, but it's been like it's noticeable at time. It's enough to notice it, which is more than I want to deal with. But sorry, I'm just let up. Getting stuff for from people on Twitter about Tony Hawk streams go on Coke logic on Twitter, says a quote from the twitch streamer, I'm watching play Tony Hawk. This is like a preview to get you guys hype. That's yeah, what man? I love that hype. It's time. It's time to get high. Let's get hype, y'all? Yeah, well, danrew hype. I'm pretty hype. You don't sound it. I'm hype, ye, I have hype. How hype are you? I want an eight or play hype train level of hype here and I'm just not hearing it. We're paying good money for this. I am hype, all right, hype hype, Okay, hype. Now you're just now you're just escalating like you're saying he's gonna puke over over and get You can't fool me. I'm hyped. I'm gonna be hyped. He's get getting a wild look in his eyes like this. Okay, I don't like this hype thing so much anymore. All Right, two more emails and let's get out of here. Craig from London. The BBC recently aired its GTA drama Game Changers. You know the one with Dan Daniel Radcliffe. I actually don't know no idea what it's. That's the like unauthorized biography documentary thing or whatever about rock Stars. Yeah, like the dramatization of the like making of Oh man, shit, I have to see that. It's like about the Housers and stuff I think about, like the workings of rock Star. I don't know, I have to look this up. I remember vaguely hearing something about that, like that's the kind of thought that that thing was like way far off and not something that would be airing this. Apparently it's already aired in the UK. Wow. Okay, the BBC recently aired its GTA drama Game Changers, and I was just wondering, what are some gaming stories that you would like to see told. It doesn't need to be limited to just a drama or documentary, but these would be stories based around games or the people involved, not so much about the game itself. We already have enough bad ones of those. I think the Metal Year five would be a good one. Yeah, that was huge at this point, especially in the wake of playing it all, just wanting to know how it came about. Yeah, and also like Dikatana and like these kind of legs, like did you you read Masters of Doom at some point? I did. Well. Do you think that that would lend itself well to film? Uh, I'd have to it's been so long. I remember it being a really satisfying read. I don't know if it would translate well in that way. They're making a movie, the Console Wars movie, right, that guy picked up Yes, it was like a seth Rogan jointer which Console Wars the it's the Genesis nests. I'd be the right one to do. Yeah, I man, it worked for Pirates of Silicon Valley, did it? Yes? Yes? Movies? That movies fucking great? All right, Okay, I love that movie. The New Jobs movies, yeah, I guess okay, yeah, the Game Changers. Yeah. Daniel Radcliffe as Sam Houser takes place in two thousand and two. I can't imagine this was done with rock Stars play, so I believe they tried to stop its secretive is Dan. I was gonna say about Katana. There's a really great article from the period. I want to say it Randon the Dallas Observer about about the development about the like the excellence. Paxton plays Jack Thompson in this fucking what. Oh my god, that sounds amazing. Who who's Daniel Radcliffe played? Does it say Sam Houser? Are you serious? This sounds great? Dude, I fucking a zillion percent. I have to see this. Jamie King has a role in this thing, man. Uh Dan Housers played by Ian kerr Aler Addardler huh m. Not reckon with my giant cable package. Maybe a BBC America bill packs. Yeah, I need to find out how how to see this, but it's the best. One day after the release, Rockstar Games use their official Twitter account to insult the BBC by calling the documentary random made up bollocks. According to a GTA wiki, so take that, Yeah, I guess. I guess you always think I did see that tweet. You always go into one of these unauthorized things, kind of saying to yourself, like, I wonder how much of this is true and how much is dramatized just for effect. But Bill Paxson, it's still it's still entertaining. Bill Paxton does not put his name on it. That's true. Twister happened, that's true. No, Twister is real. Right, it's a documentary, and also it's documentary Yeah, Helen Hunt loves to chase tornadoes. That's what she's doing. Now. I've seen her in a little bit. It's what she's off doing. Seen it. Wait did you say you've never seen it? Yeah? Oh wait, you did say that. Yeah, you've seen every movie from like nineteen ninety four to nineteen ninety six and you haven't seen Twister. I've said, I said, you've never seen it. It's a line from Twister. I've seen Twister ten times. That was gonna shatter everything I knew about Twister a lot more. Okay, I've seen Twister a lot. Okay, Okay, good good. It's quoting it and everything. It didn't marry your penis. It's the extreme. Yeah. I was just gonna say, Dann the that article from the time. It was from the late nineties and it's still online. I looked forward like a year ago or something. It's just a very long article about the excess of ion storm and kind of you know, from a Dallas paper, big Dallas articles that like a stir when it when it ran. I'm sure that's easily find a bowl online. It was such a huge thing. I have to imagine that you text it was it was like the kind of expose. It was the kind of like journalism about video games. And I used that term in a very distinctive way from what we do. That like you don't see very often. And it was awesome, like it was crazy because I mean that company was just holy shit, man, I mean, you know, the the John Romero is gonna make you his bitch ad was just like just embodied, like the crazy excess and like Hubris they had, yes, and then just kind of the out of control like rock Star image that that company had. Uh. And that article is a really interesting look at all that stuff. I highly recommend it. Yeah, yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing something about the like the heyday of the Atari era, like just fucking Nolan Bushnell and hot tubs and cocaine or whatever the stories are about all that stuff. For a second there, I was gonna say, didn't that get made? But I guess maybe I don't think so didn't. Who knows if any of those stories or how much truth is to share that stuff, you know, but like you hear all these crazy stories about right back when Atari was making zillions of dollars. Yeah, man, like just even just pawn, Yeah, like the proliferation of that as an arc like an arcade thing, and who stole what from whom? Right? Right? I mean, there's even that famous story that Steve Wasniyac tells about when he and Jobs worked for Was it for Atari or was it a different arcade maker? I think the breakout weren't they? I think it was Sorry, and like the whole thing about like they gave Wazi engineering challenge of like, you know, reduce the number of ROMs that this board takes to make, and he did it by like a huge margin, but then Jobs took all the bonus money from that, didn't tell him sounds like here's your fifty dollars or whatever. Nice? Yeah, yeah, what's good? Stories like that? All right? Last email comes in from Adams some title to Pope Visit twenty fifteen. The Pope is coming to Philly this week. Put on your Pope at and condemn a video game franchise to hell Yoshi's ruining lives. Humans and animals are not meant to exist in this way. It's wrong. It's wrong in the eyes of the Lord. Okay, yeah, shot it the fun down? Okay, well, all right, fine in that vein, I'm gonna do everyone a favor and say Sonic the Hedgehog, whoa, whoa, the whole series or any subsequent games. We've that over this so many times over the fact of Sonic again on the same front. Yes, Sonic the Hedgehog and what what a human being did with a hedgehog in that game is not okay, snoop. I can't think of a clever moral ground thing, so I'll just say, okay, if you just want to banish anything Tonal, hell Fire, Assassin's Creed, the whole damn thing. Okay, they made one good game. I think there's a super religious way to frame all the Probably, I guess, yeah, don't you like sab the Pope at the end of two Probably? Yeah, the Pope is the villain of Yeah, there you go. That's probably the angle I should have taken out now that you mentioned it. Actually, yeah, you used to have the Pope and then an alien toxy that's too right, Yeah, yea, and what it came? Sure you got anything? I don't know. Dicy Warriors is fun to hate on because they make the same game over and over again, sort of like the Pope, am I right? Damn? Yeah? Now this pope's all right, as popes go about terrible free to play games. Mhm huh, okay, it's a boring answer. Sure, you guys saw that headline floating around about It was like from I can't remember if it was an anonymous free to play developer or if they did actually talking about like you wouldn't believe how much? Yeah, yeah, but yeah, the whole thing about just like you wouldn't believe how much we know about you? No, you know what I think it made appeared on Goma tutor, but it was on an iPhone specific site. Might catch arcade orka, but yeah, yeah, they'll just the level of data. Absolutely. Don't be a whale. No, try not to be a whale. I mean, you can't escape, no matter if you're a whale or not. Yeah, they know everything about You're probably right, they know they can. They know who the hat whale is. That's true. That's true. I do too. I'm not gonna say though in the vertical. All right, that's all the emails I'm gonna read. Let's get out of here. Okay, we recorded a podcast, we did, We fulfilled our weekly obligations. Get my phones. It's more than an obligation.
