It was a tremendous speech and it was typical Jimmy. I don't think he had a note. I don't think he had anything prepared. He came out two minutes before stretch and banged four hits. You know, it was unbelievable. It was a great speech, hit everything and you know, didn't miss anything. Just it was a remarkable night. Ed's speech was great, Jimmy's spech was great, the crowd was great, and of course you know they had to come from behind victory that was pulsating and dramatic, and the Durantula.

But it was Yeah, yeah, it was cool I thought. I mean, you think like a guy like Ed who probably didn't know kind of where how he was viewed by anybody with the Phillies and and now people are walking around all weekend with their Ed Wade, Jimmy rollind so your cup and that's gonna be on there, you know, in their cupboard for their next twenty years or whatever. So that's kind of cool for all those guys. Yeah, a lot of fun weekend. You get and see a lot of those guys. Mike, you know, Mike Liberthal was in the clubhouse yesterday with his kids, you know, talking to players and hanging out and it's just it's just really really cool to see that. And the Phillies really do alumni weekend and those types of things better than anybody. I've seen a lot of those, you know, Hall of Fame, Hall of Fame ceremonies, and other ballparks, and it it really does pale in comparison.

So it was also the seven they recognized the seventy fifth anniversary of the Whiz Kids, and you know, up sadly none of them are with us anymore. But it reminded me of this totally random thing that happened. And I was still at the Inquiry, Jim. You know, we had this great editor at the Inquiry, Robin Smith, the late great Robin Smith. She was a tremendous word person.

So I called Robin at about eleven thirty at night. I called Robin Roberts. Oh my, I called Robin Roberts.

So he wrote a first person column about the whole day. He's like, I just wanted to see it. So I wanted to call curveball there, but he heard change up in his in his pitch calm because it was really loud and he couldn't really hear it, and so I just went with fastball and he threw like a it was like one oh two seven at the very top of the zone and and Green swunk through and missed it. But JT said, yeah, next time hopefully. Well I still want to see the curveball, so we're gonna we're gonna work that in. So first game was just splinkers Sunday Nights, fastballs and splinkers and one attempted curveball that was shook off because of a miss miss misinformation or you know, on the pitch com So that was kind of cool.

Speaker 1: Yep, it's funny you mentioned how he flicked that. There are sometimes when he just crushes a home and it's like, I don't even if I almost feel like he took like a half swing at it. I mean it's not a half swing, but he's so strong and he's so quick to the ball that he got like wow, he's not swinging out of his shoes. Even it looks like he's you know, he's he's fantastic. So who you got talked, I'm gonna say. I'm gonna say Christopher Sanchez based off of his performance on Sunday, And you know what, and I also I was looking at the numbers and I also thought this, he didn't pitch great last week in Chicago, but he still gave this team a chance to win. He gave up I think it was four runs in six innings. He gave up a couple of home runs. But like that's that's a bad day for Christopher Sanchez. You know, like you go, like, oh man, he was really he wasn't that good today and he go four runs and six innings. A lot of guys would kill to have that type of performance. So this this past week, fourteen and two thirds innings, eleven strikeouts, two walks, two point four five ERA, and last night it was just it was just amazing watching him go, just getting guys up. In the seventh inning, couple couple of hits to start the inning, mixed in a walk in there to load the bases, but three three ground ball outs, gets out of the gets out of the inning with unscathed. And the guy you talk about, MVP candidate, Christopher sand is really pushing his way towards n Elsai Young candidate.

I'm gonna go with him, and I'm gonna give an audible mention to Dave Dombrowski. I got to give him some love. I know he didn't get that big right handed bat, and the offense is a concern. They haven't been really been able to put together a lot of offensive thunder. But they have to rely on those big boys to do the job. And you know, Turner's got to pick it up. He's really struggling. There's some other guys in this lineup that have to do some do some damage. But Dave Dombrowski deserves a lot of love for the fact that he ended up getting the best closer in the game and he did not give up the entire farm for it.

They get Harrison Bader and Thursday, on the Zoom call with reporters, Dave Dombrowski says, you know, somebody asked, I can't remember who asked it, but how much is Harrison Bader going to play? He's like, well, you know, this is Rob thompson decision, but he's going to play a lot. And then Friday, Rob Thompson says he is going to platoon him in center field with Brandon Marsh at least through the first six games.

I think I might be wrong here, but it might be a player's manager wanting to give Kepler a little more rope. And if he doesn't start producing, we're going to see Crawford, and Crawford and Bader and marsh are going to fill those two spots. So I think it could be coming soon. I think we're reaching a time when a decision will be made.

I believe that they're going to pratun Marsh and Otto Kemp eventually in left field when Alec Bohme comes back to play third base.

It's a production businessman, and uh, I just think at at some point you're gonna have to cut bait. And I think it's gonna happen here pretty soon. And the timetable for me is probably when Alet bohone gets back. As you're getting close. Uh maybe it's a week, maybe it's ten days. I don't think it's gonna be Crawford yet, because I don't think he's gonna be playing center field every day. I think beata is. I talked about it, you know, I talked about that. I thought he was gonna be coming in on August first. But it's clear after getting bitter that they want somebody else in centerfield because they're not ready to have Crawford be that center fielder every day in this situation.

Speaker 1: Yeah, Bater's I mean, his splits this season lefty versus rights are fairly similar than the Midler mid seven hundreds, which isn't great, but it's a lot better than most of the Phillies outfielders. Marsh Is hitting righty's pretty well, seven sixty seven ops in the five hundreds against righty's. Uh, and then you have Kepler. Kepler, It'd be one thing if he had he was crushing right handed pitching, but he's not. He's got an ops in the six sixties against against righty's lefties. It's it's obviously way worse. He's in the five hundreds against lefties. So uh, it's hard to make the argument that you know, there's a platoon advantage there by having Kepler and say kemp in left field because Kepler's not producing against anybody. And I know a couple was about a month ago in Houston. He was saying he can't get in a rhythm. But you know, at some point it's like, all right, you get your you're playing a lot still.

I know they stumbled last week against the White Sox, but they've won three out the last four series they are. They have a half game lead over the Mets in the National League East, So interesting week with the Orioles coming into town. And also keep an eye on kind of what's going on in the minor leagues in that not only justin Crawford and not only Andrew Painter, but David Robertson is getting closer to coming back. He's been okay so far. The numbers haven't been great, but the velo is like ninety two to ninety three is. He threw thirty pitches the other day and Rob tom according to Rob Thompson, he bounced back really well from that, and David was pretty optimistic and felt really good about the fact that he threw thirty pitches and bounce back pretty well. So keep an eye on that. Joe Ross is getting closer to coming back. Jose Alvarado is going to be at the ballpark on Monday and is going to head out to Lehigh Valley soon after that. So there's a lot of kind of moving pieces, guys, and the bullpen could look a lot different this week and certainly in the next couple weeks once Robertson Alvarado joined the team and Ross and you know.
