Speaker 1: Welcome back, happy our listeners. I'm Becca Kuprin and I'm Michelle Young, and we are back with you again this week to talk about everything that went down in two episodes of this week in Bachelor of Paradise. Yes, we do have a lot to cover this week. I'm very happy to be back with you, Becca as always, because this week we're talking to a Bachelor Nation gem and self proclaimed old guy on the beach, Michael Ay. I love that he proclaims himself that because I feel like that was me last year on Paradise. But yeah, I'm so excited to have Michael on. We talked with him during Katie's season, which was man a year and a half ago now, but I want to get the scoop on his relationship with Sierra so far. We saw that pop off this week, and from the looks of it, it seems like they're right now one of the strongest couples on the island. So wait, it's not even an island, it's Mexico out man on the butt on the beach. But we'll have him on very shortly. But before that, Michelle, you have been traveling around. You are currently in Minnesota right now. You were at iHeart last week, which looks so fun, like just catch us up on all of your travel and adventures. So much fun. Yeah. Um, I was able to so like I feel like I was kind of finally getting settled in LA and then of course had to take off and I went to iHeart. It was in Vegas. We're so busy, but it was just it was so much fun to see so many artists perform, and I feel like it was kind of like a trip down memory lane, Like it was super nostalgic because I had to listen to like Avril Levine, Like do you remember an I was just listening to skater Boy in the car last night, Yes, exactly, so do I remember? Fulfills a certain part of your just I don't know, childhood growing up. And then I was able to do a little bit of hosting, which was super awesome. And the best part is that while we were filming, we were filming at the like the T Mobile Arena, and it was when all the bands were doing their like covers, like perform, warming up and all those things like playing through their sets. Yeah, and Sam Smith played his entire set and he played his new song Unholy and so I literally got to sit there and listen to it like it had gotten released the day before, and it was like the first time he's gonna be performing it live and I got to hear it before like anyone else. It was so cool. That's also so so cool. So yeah, there's a lot of fun things, you know, a lot of tiktoks, a lot of Bachelor Nation alum that were there, and so it was good. And then headed back to Minnesota for a little bit, pop back to LA for some events, and now back in Minnesota. So I'm tired. Oh I can imagine I'm tired just here about all of these travels. I want to ask you really quick though, because I saw you mentioned the tiktoks, you mentioned the bachel Nation alumni that we're all at my heart. I loved the ones with you and Rachel. I loved watching your stories. How is she doing after everything? I know, I'm sure like she's still in the midst of all of this and it's still is probably very crazy. But now she's a bit removed and can focus on the future. So did she have fun? Was she doing well? I would say, I mean she's she's doing about as good as somebody could like in that position. I mean, do you remember when you're going through this entire Bachelor experience and it's like a year long experience or like a two year long experience before you slow down, because you typically go on as a contestant and then you move into becoming a lead and you're going through like the pre press and then your season and filming and then you're airing and then posts and all this different stuff, and you know, like that moment where everything happens and then everything finally is done and you you it all catches up to you, like you're just emotionally exhausted, even on like even if you end up with the best case scenario, you're exhausted. And so she had literally gone from Afar and you know, going through that entire like announcing how everything went down with Tino, and then she hopped on a plane with Gabby to go to New York to do her press week, and then from there she went to Vegas and so it was nice to see her and spend so much time with her, and then you know, I took a picture because she was there's this point of the night where she was just knocked out on the bus as we're heading to the concert with like a red bull in her hand, and she's just like exhausted, and your heart just as like, oh because you remember that, and you know she's going through a breakup on top of all of that, right, So she's doing she's she's doing well. She's holding her ground and everything. I think she's just trying to kind of get her footing back. And you know, I know she was home in Florida for a little bit to spend time with her family and go to a wedding in Chicago recently, so she's she's starting to come back from it and re energize and things like that. It's just you're exhausted. Oh yeah, I can't. I mean, like I would never do this again just for that reason. Like it's just it's so draining, and it's such like a jarring situation to go from being on the franchise schedule to constant press, constant appearances, whatever it might be, than to like nothing kind of and not that I heard was Deathani, but it was like more of her free time. But that is still so exhausting in itself that, um, We're going to plan a girls' night in La very soon. We got to get around to sleep for a week straight and then call me when you wake up. Yeah, yeah, we got you, So be a little firm. Yeah, it's been busy, busy, busy. But enough about me, And of course I always checking with Rachel. But how have you been, What have you been up to? Are you how's everything going in San Diego. I know that you've been at a wedding recently, like a best friend's wedding. Yeah, We've been all over the place these past two weeks. We've been traveling. We had two weddings up. One was up in Santa Barbara. Then we went back to Minnesota. We went to my friend's reception, and then I was able to spend some time in Minnesota and Wisconsin with my family, which was so nice, so needed. My sister, she has a three year old, her daughter just turned three and she is wild. But then she just had a baby. I might have mentioned this. Her baby's like two weeks old. So we went back and just spent time with the kiddos and just I swear I held him for like three fourths of the time. I just didn't even want to put him down because I was like, I'm only here for four days. I want to soak in all this baby time. But it was so good to be back with the family. And I mean, you know, because you're in Minnesota right now, like, there's nothing like the Midwest in the fall when it kind of gets cold and crisp and a leave start to change. It's just beautiful. So we did all of the full things. We went apple picking, took walks outside, we collected leaves. It was just it was such a blast. So it was really good to reset. And then we came back to San Diego and back to work working on some projects, planning more events for bordone. So yeah, it's been good. I do have to say, because we were talking about iHeart and music and all the cool concerts. There was a festival in San Diego this pat well not San Diego, in Orange County this past weekend, and I was able to see Stevie Nicks once again. And she is my absoon favorite and I saw her in twenty seventeen, literally right before I left to go on The Bachelor, and so to be able to see her again and now bring Thomas there, it was so special. I felt like so nostalgic watching her and hearing all the songs and just remembering the first TIMSR. But it was incredible. I am such a huge fan of her, and she is seventy four or still sounds incredible. She can. I'm like, the energy that it takes to be on stage and perform is one thing, but like she does it in these massive high platform heels, with these like beautiful dresses and kimonos and just still has all of the energy and everything. I was like, she is crushing it, Like she is incredible, absolutely breathtaking and studying. So it was so much fun. But yeah, life has been good. We're still obviously working on the house. Watching Paradise. You know Thomas Thomas, he won't watch the regular season, but he'll watch Paradise just for the memories. So for all the memories. That's so funny. I can ficture him saying that. I think we talked a little bit about that last time. But wait, did Thomas get to hold the baby? He did? Was that was that super? Like? Okay, wait, yeah, tell us how he was, Like when did he look comfortable? Because Thomas seems like he'd be really good with kids. But I'm very curious of like how worn't. Oh, he's great with kids. He's he is so good, especially with my three year old because she's so full of energy, like they could just play and run around. It's funny seeing him with a newborn because he has we have a nephew who is he just turned to and like we went to his one year old birthday too, and like he'd hold him, but you know as a one year old, like he's a little bit bigger. Having him hold this newborn, he literally just like has to put My nephew's name is Locke. He just like cast up at lock in his hand and like that's all he needs. But he's because he's so big. I'm like, don't crush him, like he has a soft spot on his head. Be careful. But he was great with him, and he did not change any diapers, which I was really hoping he would do because he has not once in his life changed a diaper. He says that the first diaper he ever changes, it's going to be his own flesh and blood. And I'm like, wow, that makes me nervous because you're not going to know what the hell you're doing, right, But he was like that's kind of cute. Wait, you and smart. Dirty so many dirty, oh, so many. And I was like, what are you gonna do when we have a baby. He's like, well, I'll practice on a doll. I'm like, no, it is not the same when you have a doll versus like moving limbs and like pe on you like a little hose like. So he's he has a lot of practice. But I definitely think it made us both realize that we want to have kids sooner, good later. Okay, wait, but okay, I oh my god, I just got so excited. Okay, I called babysitting. Michelle is gonna be here all the time. We'll be right there. Um, okay, so are you gonna squash the rumors of um? Everybody is convinced that Ean Thomas got married already? Wait, who who thought we got married? It's all in my das. I think it might be on some somebody's screenshot. Yeah, it's because I think happened. I think what happened is it was Thomas or somebody posted a video, the video of you singing at the concert. Oh the wife comment, yeah, the wife comment. And so everybody convinced. Everybody's convinced that you eloped and didn't tell anybody and that you guys are just already married. No, we did not Elope. I will squash themers right now. We did not Elope. It's not a I mean, I'm not saying we wouldn't elope and not tell anyone for a while because we kept the engagement a secret for a long time. But no, we didn't. Um No, he always just calls me his wife, like I think the second we got engaged, and like we've lived together for a while now, like we know that wear each other's futures, he just calls me his wife. And so when I thought, I didn't even think about it because I'm like, you know, I hear it all the time from him. But yeah, no, um, we did not Elope. Okay, so you heard it here everybody, but comment are not married yet yet. But I'd love to say we might not do it one day, but no, we would definitely need like our families there with us. We wouldn't just a little and not have like my sister and our parents there. So I think why people also are like, yeah, they definitely are already married is because the whole proposal and like how you know what I mean, Like you guys kept that a very quiet secret we're good secret keepers. You really are like it was you guys are volts like nobody knew and so they're like definitely no, we um, yeah, we're I mean, I will say, there's something fun about like knowing something that just you and your partner, no and no one else. It's like it just makes it more special. But no, one day, very soon, well I don't even know if it's very soon, don't quote me on that, but one day it'll happen. But not quite yet. But he can still call me his wife. I think it's cute. I don't mind. I think it's cute too. He suck with me now, so you know. Yeah, But with that, we have to have the man of the hour on. Michael A who you know him from Katie's season. He's back on the beach. He just started this little relationship with Sierra, so I think it's just time to bring him on. And I know we have some questions for him because it's been a while since we've talked with him. So everybody please welcome Michael ad Aboucher Happy Hour. Hello Michael, how are you doing it? I'm doing good? How are you guys doing? We're great? It's been a minute though since we've seen you last Yes, a lot of time has passed, and you know, it feels like I just left Albuquerque. Sometimes I swear this whole world is ridiculous, you know, thinking that I got back from Albuquerque. I think, you know, it was you know, mid last year. It feels like a lifetime ago, and so it feels weird to be back on the beach and doing this thing all over again. Oh, Michael, now that I'm talking to you, it's all coming back to me because I had mentioned to Michelle we had you on Happy Hour during the midst of Katie's season, you know, one of those first couple of weeks. And actually when we had interviewed you at that point, I was on the beach in Paradise. I had to like take a little break a few hours off come back to the home accord with you. So I was literally like where you're at now watching the season like I was there doing that. And it's so crazy to like see you now because you've gone through this full experience once again. I cannot wait to just pick your brain on everything. But what have you been up to since leaving the beach? Without giving too much away, Like, I'm sure your life is crazy. You have your lovely son, Like, how has it been, you know, kind of getting back into this world and like what's life like? Yeah, I mean getting back into my normal life. It you know, it didn't take long whatsoever. I jumped right back I can. I mean, James isn't somebody that can wait around for me to find my footing. So it was it was really quick. And James actually just went to kindergarten. He had his first day, jeez, about a month ago. And I never thought it would be as emotional as it actually was. I used to make fun of parents all the time for, you know, getting all emotional about their kids going back to school. But there's something to be said about the kid kind of growing up, taking like those first steps. And he just felt like an adult that day. And I'm dropping him off at this like major large school and I'm like, just please take care of him. Oh my god. But he was he was crazy brave, and I don't I don't know. It's there's a lot of firsts that I'm experiencing as a parent, and you know, each phase is great. Um. I think people will always ask me, you know, what's your favorite phase? You know, what's your favorite time? It's always the next one. Um, it's just kind of cool to you know, grow beside him and see the world through his eyes. M Did you set any tears dropping him off? Absolutely? I was. I think I was like in a caravan of sad parents, just like with their head on their steering wheel, you know, wondering if their kid's ever going to come back. And yeah, it was. It was an emotional one. Um, I dried up, I toughened up a little bit, and you know, got back to work. It's got to be harder for the parents. So for the kids, I'm sure. I think I think it probably is, because you know, there's nothing we can do. We can't be there, we can't hold their hand the entire time. Sometimes you know, got to kick the bird out of the nest, as they say, and let them, you know, find their own own path in life. Speaking of phases, I feel I don't have kids of my own, but I always hear just dropping them off when they're in like pretty school, kindergarten, first second grade, and then you know, their backpack is larger than them, and like turtles, we're just so cute right with these big eyes. And then once they get to like fifth grade, sixth grade, like at the end of the summer, like you see those videos of the parents just like kicking them out the door like peace, like thank god, once they start to smell. I'm sorry. James definitely had that like turtle size backpack on because I just you know, they send you so many emails about what to pack, what to do, so I'm just stuffing that thing like you may need this, there may be an apocalypse. What are you gonna do? And I'm just stuffing this thing like he's some sort of end of day's horder here and k could barely even get it to class as a teacher, though we appreciate that. Okay, send all the supplies, all of it. Spent some wine too, and it may not be on the first day, but send some wine. Can you imagine like this, you can bring it out a bottle of wine like here, miss young Is, I've had that happened before. But like those are the best gifts because like teacher Appreciation Week and these different things, the parents who just get it and they'll send in like they'll send in wine and like you don't you know to not open the gift, like not that. Of course, you don't open the bottle of wine. Let me clarify you wine until you get home. Okayone coming after me. But the best gifts were like the ones were like it was a bottle of wine, and it was just like, here's a bottle of wine because I know my kid is the reason you're drinking after school, like they know. Okay, at least you know I know, and you know. It's it's such a bittersweet thing because summer is really tough, like as a single parent. I mean, he's he's here, and it's like I've got jobs, I've got work to do, I've got things in At the same time, I'm constantly trying to make sure that he's entertained and also like not becoming a couch potato like waste of base. So it's like doing all these like crafts and like cutouts and all of these things that was running. I was really running out. Ideas Dad of the Year goes to you, I will say, just trying hardly, hardly get out of the year. But I'm out here trying. That's all you need as long as you love your kid. Mere putting the effort. And I don't know James, but he seems like a wonderful child, and like I can see how much you love him just from talking to you, and you had mentioned him going to school was obviously very emotional for you. And I have to say one of the you did make me cry on the podcast last time we had you on, But one of the most emotional moments that we've seen on this show, at least for me personally, was your exit when you were leaving, and it was because you needed to be there for your son. So did you ever think, now flash forward to a year after that, that you would be back on the show on the Beaches of Paradise doing this once again. You know, I never thought i'd be a part of it again. I'm glad i am, because it's a really cool, unique experience. I mean, outside of trying to find the person you're supposed to be with, you also get to meet a lot of amazing people that you never would have crossed paths with. So it's like you're always trying to take the good and the bad. And you know, I think there's a lot of people who have questions about, you know, me going back on the show and doing this again, they don't really necessarily understand that, you know, two things can be true at the same time. I can miss James, I can want to be a great dad and also I want to I can be an individual, and I can pursue the things that I need to pursue in order to feel a sense of fulfillment. And both those two things are absolutely true. They don't have to be one or the other. James was certainly not an excuse for why I left Katie season. Katie knows that too. You know, this season of Paradise is a little bit different. A year later in a kid's life is a lot. We were able to talk significantly about what we wanted, what I was going to do, and I was going to be away and all of that. And also, you know, filming is a little bit less than before. And it was his summer and he went on a lot of vacations with his grandparents and his parents. His grandparents love having that one on one time to create those memories too, So it was kind of a perfect opportunity to you know, dive back in see if I can find my person and you know, not have to battle those what ifs that can haunt us if we don't take him right. I was going to ask you what went into your decision to like finally deciding that you are going to go back to the beach or go to the beach. I was, you know, probably a late edition. I was holding off for a while. You know, it came at a time when you know, James was in a good place. Schedules really aligned. I was in a good, you know, mental state to be able to jump back in there and be open and honest and try to find somebody. So it was like a lot of things working in tandem. And if I weren't, if I wasn't able to do that, I don't think I would have done it. And so it just seemed like the stars aligned. Yeah, going back to your thing, I mean, when you leave for the actual show, it's a much longer time period that you could potentially be gone for. Paradise is quick, like I don't think people realize. And so most kids too, in the summer's, like you said, go on vacations with their grandparents or with other family members. They leave for a couple of weeks. And so the fact that it was the summer break and can do that I think it was great timing for everyone involved. So let's get into the actual season and episodes, because so far we've seen three episodes and a lot has happened. I want to first start with day one. You walking down on the beach. What were you feeling like, just excitement, nerves, anticipation for like what was to come? Where was your head in your heart at Yeah, there's something about Paradise where I feel as though like the relationships have a greater chance of working. And I mainly believe that just because of the time that you're allowed to spend with somebody, there's a lot more you know, freedom of choice, and you can get deeper with people. I think on the you know, the Bachelor of the Bachelorette, you're living and dying by one on one dates or group dates and things like that. I mean sometimes on the beach, it's kind of great not to be included in any of those things. So you because if I'd like to go on a date, I'd like to go take my girlfriend to the beach, and so it's like we'll just stay back at the stay back at the pad and get to know each other and relax. Um. So I really thought that, um, in terms of expediting the dating process, which is actually really hard for me. Um. I've said this before. It's like, when you're dating, that's time away from my son too, And so you know, you could go on a bunch of first dates and those are nights away. So this is kind of a way to consolidate everything. And it's actually very efficient in terms of you know, time and getting to know people, and you know, also sneaking in a vacation there honestly, which I desperately needed. Yeah, it's like speed dating uncracked. It really, Yeah, it really is. Can you tell all of the listeners and viewers out there, like the amount of time that you had with Katie on on her season versus the amount of time that you spent with Sierra or anyone in those first three days? How do those both compare? Oh? I mean I probably spent more time with Sierra than I did with Katie the entire season in three days. Yeah, in three days, yes, And you know, you're really dialed into getting to know somebody. You see them in an atmosphere around friends, you see how they're perceived. Um, you know, which isn't everything, but it's something you know, I always like to see, you know, if I'm with somebody, who do they hang out with? You know, what do others think about them? Am I blinded by one thing or the other? You know? And it's it's a good kind of like litmus test to be able to to see the invalidate or negate like who you're with at that time. That's very true. Oh yeah, okay, So how okay? So and you're coming to the beach, is there anybody that was like on top of your mind that you really wanted to meet? You know, I was a last addition, So I really wasn't looking at the cast and all of that. And I specifically did that because I think if you try to create a plan down there, it backfires. Yeah. The only way to do it is to go down there with an open heart too and an open mind. You know, sometimes people get trapped in how they want their experience to be and it takes away from just the organic nature of going down there and letting it lead. And so I really didn't, you know, have anybody particularly in mind, but just open to it and see who I was drawn to. We weren't surprised that everybody was so excited to see you. We like we kind of knew that that that was going to happen, been right watching it? Or you surprised to see that you were very hot commodity that Yeah, absolutely, I mean, I mean, I don't, I don't know. I think, um, you know, there's nobody there. That's everyone's cup of tea. You know, everybody's going to have their opinion one way or the other, and people are going to have their preferences. What I tried to do when I was down there was, you know, pool people aside individually to get to actually know them, not just when you know the cameras are rolling, but who are they Like I may never see you again, I want to know a little bit about you, and I don't. I don't know. I think a lot of people just are not exactly They're more than how they are portrayed in the segments on any show. And so I didn't want to have any bias from the way I saw them previous seasons or that this, that or the other, and just kind of, you know, go with it and see where it takes me. That's the mindset you need. I get it. One mindset that I can relate to is you make all these youthful comments, and you were joking that you're like the old guy on the beach, which I did the same when I went down there last year. Don't you think though, being a little bit older is a positive thing coming into this because it kind of removes yourself from the drama and you can realize what's important and not necessarily important when finding a partner. Yes, first, let me address the youthful youthful comments here. Okay, so Andrew and I were talking about the girls that were currently there, which you know were Serene, I think Genevieve, maybe Teddy was there, and you know, they're all great people, but they were not the one for me. And I could totally like sense that, yeah, and I wasn't feeling that kind of draw to them. So instead of saying something like negative, I was like, yeah, they're youthful, but I love it and I'm what one thing people are gonna have to get used to is that when I when I get uncomfortable, I say really awkward things. So that's going to be a theme probably, so you know, get used to it. People are like, wow, that's so creepy, creepy old man kind of thing, and I'm like, I'm not saying it like that. I'm just saying I don't know, I don't know whatever I'm suppressed. I didn't give you a cane for your intro, Michael, Yeah, right right the bottom you imagined, Michael, pushing that through the sand miss opportunity. But I think I think you're right. I think there is a benefit of you know, whether or not you're older or you've just had a life filled with Vicks experience one or the other. The two are not necessarily the same. And you know, it's not just about age as much as it is about have you done your work? You know, have you worked on yourself? Do you know who you are? You are? You do? You know what you want out of life? And that can come in a lot of different ages. And I know older people that have never done their work. So it's not exactly you know, you have to be this certain age to qualify UM. But you you do see some sort of pattern between living life, overcoming obstacles, having that resilience being tested UM, and you know, be like feeling complete and that you're ready to find your match. Yes, well said, I'm gonna say, would you say that's the definition of How did sis it? Saddy? Michael Sia is a gem. Oh she's a little firecracker. I love it. I want to count the number of times that you were referred to as a zaddi with a Z. Don't get it twisted? How did How does it feel knowing that you're a zaddie? You know, the first time I ever heard this term was last season, I think towards the tail end um and now, I mean I think if you were doing The Bachelor, you know, drinking game and Zaddy, every time you did it you took a shot, you wouldn't have made it to like the first commercial break. It was just lying hot and and I'm telling you it's everywhere now. All my guy friends are making fun of me. It's all in the text threads. I you know, I don't know how to respond to it, really, so I'll probably just say something for you about to increase for you. Wait, there's there's a ball cap that just says daddy on the top. One of my best friends who just had a baby has it now, So I really want to get you this daddy hat. Oh say daddy, and can you like we can definitely do some to do with sharpie. I'll take a picture with, but I can't promise I'll wear it. Let's go start to wear it everywhere. When you dropped James off to school the next time in this little turtle backpack. You need this daddy hat. Okay, deal. If you need to report it too, I need to say we're going to require proof, footage proof. Oh god, He's like, it's never gonna end. Now where do you go? No? No, No, my friends are ruthless too. I mean they are firing at me. There could be worst things like exam daddy and what is Sam mean? What the hell are people talking about these kids these days? I don't know. I'm not doing anything speaking of where this has come from. Now U with Sierra, let's talk about it. Let's get into it talking about you two. I feel like this is not necessarily a connection that I predicted Becca, What about you? No, but I can't protect anything done on that beach. Ask how like how did it go down? Yeah? So, And this is a perfect case in point of not trying to plan your route, um, you know, and plan your experience. You know, Sierra is somebody that if you've ever met her, she just has so much energy I mean one, she is gorgeous, um, just incredibly beautiful. Um, but inside and out too. UM. We were able to have so many different conversations and they got deep really really quickly. And it wasn't necessarily me just pouring it out, but she was giving me a lot in return. Um, just things about you know, her upbringing, you know where she came from, UM, you know her mom. You know, being in orphan in Korea. Um. You know Sierra felt a calling to go to Korean and teach kindergarteners at an earlier age too, and just basically sold off all of her stuff because of that calling. Those types of things are evident to me that she's somebody that has done her work, that she has put in the time, and I was immediately drawn to it. She's hilarious all of these amazing things, and so I don't I don't know. I think from what people may have seen of me on Katie's season, they may have been surprised, but people that actually you know me as a person, it's not a surprise at all that I was drown to her. Yeah. She We've had her on the podcast before and she is so funny. She's like you said, just so energetic. She like, she just has this vibe to her that I feel like is infectious. So I completely understand. So that we the men had the roses, What was that like standing at your very first rose ceremony and actually being the one to hand that out. Yeah, you know, I've been through a few rose ceremonies and to actually have barroses it I felt pressure. Honestly. I think some people may feel like they're safe or a sense of power, but I was almost just hoping that the women would have it, so you know, we don't have to make any decisions or anything like what needs to be done, Let it be done. But you know, for me, you know Sierra, we had so many great conversations leading up to the rose ceremony, that was the obvious choice. So I think for her, you know, going into it, if she did have any you know, questions or hesitations on whether or not I was going to give it to her, Hopefully it was very little because she was really the one person I was dialed into. Yeah, you know what rose ceremonies are just always so you just you never know what's gonna go down. Rose ceremonies give me anxiety. There there are so much more stressful, so much more stressful than anyone realizes. The show makes it look great. It's like so structured. You have the one person, Saint William said, it's like way more intense than anyone will ever realize. With everyone staring at you too, Michael, and you have to like it's not I can't imagine which you two have been through. I mean, I'm coming as some lonely contesting you know you guys, I can't imagine the way, especially towards the ending. Oh how heavy it all bits that but is when it gets hard but for you, but for you in Paradise, like for us, you know, we stand there and we say, will you accept this? Throws and we say the name, like that's all we really have to do. In Paradise. You have to like give this little spear of why you're handing it out to them, and like that was that the hard part for you? Each and every week You're like, oh what do I say here? You know, I just want somebody to accept this, and I don't want everyone else to hear what I'm trying to say to this person right now? Yeah, you know, not, it wasn't that hard I mean, I'm I'm kind of somebody that you know, just speaks from the heart. It doesn't have to be perfect as long as it's felt and it's real. So you know, I don't put too much pressure on, you know, the delivery as much as just making sure that whoever's on the receiving end, you know, feels that it's it's honest and it's true. Well, damn, Michael, I'm going to start having you read all my speeches. I didn't say they're pretty I really though there's so much that goes on, but um switching gears just a little bit here. I want to get your thoughts and to know that Beck would also want to get your thoughts on everything that's going down in Paradise up until this point. So like, what did you think of like the Jill Kira Romeo love triangle? Give it from your perspective. Yeah, it's that was a really interesting one. And you know, the second I got down to Paradise, it was very kumbayab and you just know that it's not going to be there like that for too long. And that whole thing took off and it was kind of confusing for me because I wasn't really aware of any of the prior history that they have all shared, and you know, watching that on last week's episode, it was like, whoa where did all this come from? Because I feel like I wasn't necessarily around during all of this chaos. You would hear, you know, Jill screaming echoing down the you know, the beach, and you wonder in what's going on. But I mean, other than that, I feel like, I feel like Romeo, you know, he's he's somebody that wears his heart on his sleeve. I don't think he's somebody that has, you know, any sort of malicious intent, but he's he was down there trying to figure out who his person was, and I think he just got smitten by, you know, two women that you know are great. I don't think Romeo had any idea what was happening down on that beach. From what we saw, he had no clue of how to work through any conversations or anything. It was very entertaining as a viewer, but I'm like, sir, you got to be more direct and just kind of like have a game plan in your mind here whatsoever? Yeah, I think, um, you know, I got to I got to learn a little bit more about Romeo just he was, you know, in the bunk bed next to me, and you know, he's a really fascinating guy with an interesting background in interesting pay that is literally polar opposite of mine. So I found that really instead of me like thinking that it's it's weird or odd, it's it's always interesting to see how people process things and how they approach it. And I mean he approaches things entirely different than me. Like if there was a polar opposite, it's him, And so we would have some talks and stuff, and I don't I don't know. I was just always interested in what he had to say. Yeah, Roley was a very intriguing person. I remember that conversations were always so interesting. Oh my, wait, he was in your season, yeah, Michelle, I thought he was on Katie and Gabby's. No, he was on my season where we are Romeo is down on the sand trying to find two Juliets. Michael, I want to ask you this because we have and Michelle and I had talked about this a lot of the cast members on this each we feel like this is the first time we're actually really seeing them and getting to know them, and one of those people is Casey, who I find hilarious. I'm obsessed with Casey. He might just be one of my favorite people on this season so far. Like his one liners, Like he's so quick witted, Like he's just I want more of Casey. Is he as funny in person as he is on this show, Like, just describe Casey for me a little bit. Yes, Casey is one of the funniest people I've ever met. I mean, quick witted. Absolutely, he's funnier. Like if you think he's funny on camera, he's even better off camera. Like he just has this really amazing way of breaking things down. I mean, he's his perspective always has this really dry humor to it that I don't know, it adds, it adds of it. Even during like the really stressful times on the beach, he was always somebody that I buddied up with, and um, we had like an immediate connection just just because you know we have we have similar histories, similar you know, ade ranges, all of that, and I don't know, I think people are going to really enjoy some of his commentary this season. I feel like he's a good morale for everyone. Yeah, yeah, season, let him narrate the season seriously, totally. Yes, the man is hilarious. I'm trying to think of just different examples. I can't remember. He had some hilarious comment where we were supposed to be dead serious, like shit was hitting the fan during this stupid sleeping please your X two. Yeah, Michelle Pacy is a gem. Anyway, let's let's let's turn the microphone over to Michelle. Yeah. Yeah, oh my god. Yeah, just like the ice Breakers, like the ship were supposed to be like dead ass serious, like I was supposed to be pissed off, and like I'd catch somebody that he would say and I would just burst out laugh so funny. You know, it's often extremely like inappropriate and dry and wonderful and like yeah, I don't know. His humor aligns really like mine too, So he's super He comes off so humble, like incredibly humble, and I think that's the thing that I love the most. And even he made I don't know what comment he made to somebody. I don't know if I was like a pretty sorry if I'm throwing you under the bus, casey, but it was like a comment he made where on my season where he was like, Yo, Like normally I'm like I'm like a solid nine in the real world, but like now that I'm around all these good looking guys, He's like, I'm like a walking two at best. Just like, really, I'm on the podcast. Yeah, very humble, very insightful. He would be an entertaining guest, no doubt. Oh so good one of these days when we will have him on. But I could actually see you too getting along because you both seem very similar. And yeah, you both just always seem like you're just positive and happy, and not to say that you're always like that, but again, good moral for other people when they're down and going through all the crazy drama that is paradise. I feel like you both would be good people to gravitate towards. Yeah, I think Casey and I have a similar perspective. And you know, when you're down on the beach, it can be exhausting. I mean, it's hot as hell, there are bugs everywhere. I mean, you're sleep deprived, and I think people get caught up in that and they're not seeing the bigger picture, which is this is such a cool moment to share, like it's going to be gone in a flash and so you know, don't get caught up with you know this, that and the other. And it's like, this is just the cool opportunity to dial in, focus on yourself, focused on relationships, meet new people. See if it works, if it does amazing, If it doesn't, you'll always have that to look back on, those memories and you'll value them. So it's like, make make the most of it. I am. So I want to ask you this because obviously not everyone has done a season of the Batch Short or Batch Short and then goes on to Paradise. But I always like to ask people who have done both, because they're so drastically different. What did you have more fun filming? Oh, definitely Paradise, hands down, not even not even close. I mean it's it's better for a lot of reasons. I mean, I loved Katie's season because I think Katie's amazing person. She was great in the role, and I love the guys from our season. The difference is is that people warm up a lot quicker on Paradise. I think, so they've done this before, they understand kind of you know, what's going on. They can see it from a little bit higher up, and you get to know people a lot faster. You get to spend more time with people and gets known. There's a little bit more freedom into you know, what you can do during the day, and it feels more organic in so many ways. Jet's just my opinion. Then you know some of the formalities and everything that goes along with bachelor and bachelorette. This is a lot more laid back, many more fluid. Tell me that you don't miss somebody interrupting your conversation every ten minutes, right, Well, no one ever interrupted mine, thank god. But I was. I was lucky the first I was. I was lucky. Um, actually that's a lie. There was one time, Um, Andrew m who was on our season, he came in and interrupted me and I got up and I love Andrew. He's like one of my closest friends. I was like, Katie, this guy he's amazing, Like, get to know him, he's wonderful, like and She's like, yeah, I was like, this is a good one, Like he's not full of shit. She was like, I'm trying to date you too, Why aren't you hiving yourself up this way? You know? I was. I was just like, you know, it's probably hard if you're the lead trying to see past like the veil, you know that happens like you don't know necessarily what's going on behind the scenes, and you want someone to least validate, like who is this person? Are they good behind the scenes when the cameras aren't rolling? So yeah, I Andrew shout out, why not? I love it. Men supporting men. That's what we want to see more of, especially on this show. One more thing that we need to ask you about the drama and everything that we saw go down in the most recent episode, specifically, was Teddy's very abrupt exit. Was everyone as shocked because I think for us viewers we kind of saw her not spiral downward after that conversation with Rodney, but like it seemed so abrupt that I was like, are we missing something? Like did something happen on that beach that the viewers aren't privy too of why she left without saying goodbye to anybody? When Teddy left, that really took me by surprise. You know, I know that Andrew was so excited to get to know her, and I know she was feeling Andrew too to some extent, And you know, when Rodney came down as well. It was almost as if these two great guys were you know, kind of you know, seeking you out, which can be a really really great thing. I mean, in most cases to have options is fantastic. It's better than not having them. But I think that she got a little bit overwhelmed with everything, and Teddy is such an empathetic, like kind person that, you know, I feel like she didn't necessarily want to break anybody's heart, and I think she was really exhausted by the process and found out that it really wasn't for her. And it took everybody by surprise when when she left, And I know Andrew was incredibly beat up about the whole thing. I mean, feeling anywhere from you know, guilty that she left and that it didn't work between those two. And so I don't know, my heart went out to you know, my buddy, because I don't know. I think he wanted it to be something, you know, special. And the thing is is that you know, with finding love and finding your person, you can't plan for it. You can't arrange it like you can get excited. But I always feel as though, especially in Paradise and things like this, it's better to find out sooner than later that things don't work, because in the real world, you could spend six months with somebody before you realize you're not a match, and that's just time wasted. Here, you know, it could be a week or two, you know, and that's that's that's kind of a good place to be. Yeah, it was interesting. I think it caught everyone off guard because we've never seen that before. Like we've seen people leave and they'll have their exit interviews and have the chance to say goodbye in some capacity, and this time around, it was like she was just be line in for back to the United States and it was it'll be interesting to see how Andrew processes things. It seems like right now he didn't get the closure that he needed, but yeah, we'll find out. Gosh, that's so hard though, because it's like, you know, when you're in a situation where like you think you want to be a part of something and then you're there and you're just so uncomfortable and you're like, I don't want I don't want to do this. I just want to be home. You just want to get out, like this is not for me. Gosh. I feel for her too, with wanting to just like hit the road. Yeah, and I think that's I think that's where Teddy was coming from. Um, you know, it was weird because for a while, we're all wondering where Teddy is and we're not. The last thing we thought was that she left because usually, and like let's fanis, you're not allowed to just leave. It's not like you can call your own cab. But to be like, hi, come pick me up, it's it takes a lot to actually like get going. But you know, at the end of the day, you know, people have to do it's best for them, and you know, she realized that this wasn't the place for her, and you know, I actually applaud her for being decisive and making that decision versus dragging it out without you know, her heart being in it or her head. Yeah. Do you okay? So you said that you'll touch base with Katie every now and then, do you still talk to like, are you close to the guys from Katie's season? Yeah? Absolutely. I think once you've shared something like this, it's so campy and odd that you can't help but you know, have a special place for these people, and like, even if it wasn't for the show, I'd still be friends with these people. They're really really good and it was really like enjoyable for me to know that, like Justin and Andrew were down there some familiar faces where we're not competing over the same person, but rather just kind of going through the process together. It's it's it's truly like a once in a lifetime experience that lives with you for a really long time. Sometimes too on Yeah, I can, I can understand that too. We'll talk about that later. The word is through the grape vine that you are a great rapper, and so I'm gonna need you to drop a few lines before that's a couple of beat Who who do you think my roommate Thomas, Oh, Thomas. Yeah, No, there's no there is no possible way. You're so good. He's like everyone, all of the guys know how great of a rapper Michael A is. You need him to drop a few lines. Let's keep it like Paradise themed off off record. I will totally do that, you know, not on record. No, come on, you gotta, you gotta sometimes you said, what did you say? You gotta push the birdie out of its nest and they'll fly. That was all bullshit that, So can you do you think you could wrap and give us a little bit of a tease to like, our listeners about what they should expect from this season. Look, people got people called me cringe for saying the word youthful. You don't think they're gonna come at me. How about this, Michael. I'm sure we'll have you on this podcast again, probably at some point within the season, maybe towards the end of the season. So when you come back, your homework is you're gonna have to wrap a few lines, just a couple, you know, like a couple of eight counts, nothing crazy, and so just be prepared. Okay, you know, Johnny's the rapper on our season, and you have to include the words Zaddi in it. And there's a lot of words that words that rhyme is zaddi, so you shouldn't. Oh yeah, how about this, I will say maybe to this, So if you have me back on, I may do it again as yes, you two look like you take maybes as a yes, there's a chance. Okay, so you don't have to wrap it for us, but can you give listeners a little bit of a tease of what to expect on Bachelor in Paradise this season. Yeah, I mean this this season. It has extreme highs, extreme lows. There are some amazing love stories that develop, and there are really some excruciating heartbreaks that like disrupt the entire Yeah, you know, beach the house, and it's really lighthearted, it's really entertaining. Um it's a long, long season, and I promise that it's going to be worth watch until the end. This is going to be really really fun. Who right? Um, So Michael, how are you in love? You'll have to tune in to find out you are prepped and trained? Well, my friend, I can't say nothing. I always try to get something out of you. Guys. Just somebody will slip up now, Yeah, experts we are What was that, Michael? I said, you have an inside track? I know I know too much. Well okay, so Becca, as Michael's watching it back, any advice for him that you have, you know, rewatching this Paradise experience for him? Um? Oh, god were to begin, well, I would tell anyone this after any season or during any season. Just don't read the comments, don't go on the forums. I mean, at this point, people get obviously so invested in the show like even us we're recapping this season, but what's done is done, and you've already lived this and now it's just the time to soak it in and embrace the friendships that you've from the show. And one of their advice don't be stupid. If you have any scandals, be upfront with them beforehand because people will find you out. But just have fun. I mean, like you said earlier, I don't remember what question we had asked you, but you made the point of, like, it's so fleeting when you live on that beach, but there's so much more to so, Kate, I think this time around, with the different people and friendships, you'll make that that's the fun part. And just have fun when it's done, because like there's a lot I mean, as you know, after cases and there's a lot that's going to happen. But I don't know, let me rephrase, wherever you're at in a relationship or not, I'm not quite sure. Just have fun because once you can finally be out and in public, if that's the case, it's going to be so worthwhile. And just just embrace every moment really because as you said, it goes by so fast. But yeah, I'm not really great with advice because everyone's journey is so different and people have different experiences on that beach. I wasn't there, But I do have one final question to ask you before we get into like our last thing. Um, how did you like the food in Paradise? Because I found it incredible. I miss it. I would go back just for the food. What are you about. I loved it. You learned to like you realize that it's not the menu. It's like all of this off menu stuff that you can have them make. The shrimp are insane, I mean everything, They're so good. The shrimp tacos. I heard something about the tacos. You know. Oh my god, Michelle, go for the food. This is Michael. This is us trying to convince Michelle to go to Paradise. Oh, Michelle, Paradise is so much fun. It's way better, way as long as I'll give my date date card to the to the food. Ye come from somebody who said no, no, no for so long, and I feel like Michael did too, And from going from a season of the Bachelor to your own season. Paradise is one thousand times more fun, more freeing. It's more fluid. It's like out of any season. I would say, do a season of Paradise. Yeah, it sucks that people have to go through like an actual season before they can do Paradise. But like to paradise, yeah yeah, there's just like I need a break. But yeah, like the sunsets down there are they're insane. Is this is this is actually a really funny story real quick. Is you know there's tons of bugs and everything down there. You're living in these conditions where you know, you don't have any windows, um, any doors, it's all crabs in your suitcase, it's all open air. Yeah, exactly. While I was on the top bunk right and um, it was like day three or four or something, I look up and there's like a four five foot snake living above me and it was like this close to my face and it was wrapped around this pole. And the thing was is you would immediately say, like get somebody in here to take care of this snake, right, But then I realized real quickly that this snake was actually eating all of the bugs that were falling on me every single night. So this guy was kind of like my friend throughout the entire face. You're not doing a great job of convincing her to come. Just like, what color was it? What's that? What color was it? It was like a blackish green. Oh heck no, yeah, you said four to five foot snake. Yeah, it was huge, you do, like, I'm yes, stick, I'm five foot something. Yeah, and it was like like that thick too. So you had an antaconda wrapped her under bud, is what you're telling me? Yeah, absolutely, it was. It was. It was out there like eating everything that was getting caught up in you know, the rafters in that weird Okay, So I will say the men had worse living quarters than the women. Like the women because we're up a little higher. There's always a breeze blowing through the quarters. So like you, like, bugs don't really stay. Yeah, the snake is a little iffy. That's what I was gonna say. I really did like you, Michael, but now I think you might be kind of put This was this was survival out here, and you're so asleep deprived that you just don't care. You're like fucking bugs, I don't care. Oh, I know, I know. Maybe Wait, were you actually Wilson? You know it became like my will Yeah, you're you're basically living a castaway. Yeah, I would confess to him every night. Yeah, that's going to be a no, I can see that. Okay. On that note, Michael, we're going to get into something a little bit more serious here. So we always have our guests give their rose and thorn of the season or of the episode. But on top of that, we've added a new thing, which we think it's so important to keep our listeners informed and just share important resources that we love that we can always repost as well that anyone can go back and find and look and read and watch and whatever. So we're going to start with the resource first, and just to make it easier, I'll kick it off unless Michelle is that okay with you, totally take it away. Okay. So I have two resources I want to share this week. One is a documentary that I found I just wanted on YouTube. I think it's on other platforms too. You do have to pay like two dollars to watch it, but it's a documentary called Dark Girls, and it's very interesting. I think it's it was made a few years years ago, but it's still always timely and it just goes into basically how at such a young age, when we're children, we start to just form these certain like idealisms of beauty and like what constitute as beautiful or as smart or whatever it might be. It like really breaks down the status based upon the level level of color in skin and how such young children start to realize that which and it's it's very informative. It's like there's parts of it that are sad. Like it's a very interesting watch, but I would highly recommend it to anyone who just has some like an hour of their time. So it's called Dark Girls Again. I found it on YouTube and then the second one that I want to share, and this is adding to Michelle's resource last week of the Still Processing podcast and I shared it on my Instagram story. But it's an episode. I don't remember what exact number it is, but the title of it is Little nas X Not Sorry, And it's very timely for everything that has happened within this franchise, especially within the past couple of weeks of the finale. It kind of goes into different types of public apology, breaks them all down, It gives examples so you know exactly what they're talking about, and you can kind of compare apologies that we have seen in the past in this franchise versus now. UM, highly recommend that one. I think it's it's from twenty twenty, I believe, but very important and still timely. Now love that. So those are mine? Wow, I love this. I love this segment too. Oh good, well it was Michelle's idea way to go. Do you still want to do the Rosenthorne part two? Yeah? Are we just going to do well? We should do resources and then Rosenthorne? Right, okay, yeah, okay, So for now those are great, Becca, and that the still Process podcasts, that the entire pocket. That's amazing, Like, it's amazing. There's some awesome episodes. Great, it's incredible, it really is. UM. So my my resource is it's the book. I think a lot of people have potentially heard of it, but it's called White Fragility, UM. Just finished reading it for the second time. It is basically this it's I think it's by Robin D'Angelo. UM, and I can link it as well on my page. But just this book about why it is so difficult, um for white people to talk about racism and the defensiveness and goes into that whole concept of really talking about those and why it is so hard to speak about those things, um, but why it's important. It's honestly, like if you are wondering where to start in your journey of having these hard conversations like that is that is the book that I would point everybody to, UM if I know it's on audible, UM, so like pop it in while you're driving. I'll look all those things as well. So yep, wait for wonderful things. I love that. My guess, my, my resources. You know. October is breast cancer Awareness month, and you know, obviously it's something that's touched my family, and it's touched way too many people sadly. One thing that I think people need to do is contact their you know, legislators, their senators about making mammograms more accessible at an earlier age and covered by insurance. I think women are getting breast cancer younger and younger, which is really alarming to me. And right now as it sets, you can't insurance doesn't cover mammograms until you're about forty years old. But people in their thirties are getting it, People are in their late twenties are getting it, and you shouldn't have to wait in order to take care of yourself and to possibly save a life because early detection is key for this whole thing. Um yeah, so that's that's one thing I continue to be passionate about. And you know, American Cancer Society is also running their Real Men Wear Pink campaign. Um so, if you guys are interested in, you know, continuing that fight during Breast cancer UM Awareness Month, you know, give them and give them a check and donate if you can. M amazing. I love that. Thank you. Also, mammograms and like all those female just things that females have to deal with because we're females should be the same thing as vaccinations, like should be absolutely flu shot flu shots free. Like let's go, we could have a whole podcast on how screwed up our healthcare system is totally right now, what's should we get into it right now? Add adding on to that, Planned Parenthood, I know people just think it's an abortion clinic. It does so much more than that, which is why people should not want to defund it. But we can save this for another separate episode. People episodes a time, we're gonna have to have to cover this. Yeah no, Michael, that was great, Thank you for sharing that. We so appreciate it, and we have mentioned this on our podcast too, but Michelle and I are always going to be sharing these on our stories and just on our highlights page. So if anyone ever wants to go back and access old resources that we shared, it's all going to be found there, so you shouldn't have any problems. But yeah, I love it. It's it's such a you know, I think a lot of times we're always wondering what can we do since we can't change everything, and I think this is an awesome thing for you guys to do to educate your audience, and you know, you know, provide some easy things for people to educate themselves if they want to be educated, if they are open to having an open mind and being able to change, which that's its own thing. But you know, you guys are doing good work. We help more and more people just keep that open mind, and you know, we're all about learning. We got to teach her in our midst here, and so we got a dad who you know, you're teaching James as he grows up, so it's important. But with that, Michael, now we got to get into the rose and thorn. We obviously asked our guests this every week, basically highlight and low light. We're gonna do it. Of the season so far, so these first three episodes, what is your rose and your thorn? Let's see my thorn of this season probably the heat down there, the bugs, the no air conditioning. It's early on in the season, so it was, you know, I wasn't adapting to it. I end up, you know, welcoming that bohemian lifestyle real quickly. But at this point I'm a sweaty mess and you can see it all over my face and so, um, my rose. It would probably go to you know, the cast um. They were actually amazing people, everybody, um and I'm not joking either. There are people that come from diverse walks of life, unique backgrounds, open people. It takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there and to go on you know, something as crazy as Bachelor in Paradise, and you know, for that, I always applaud people for taking that like roadless traveled. Amen, that's great, But shall you want to go? I was gonna say, can my Thorne be kind of disappointed that Michael's rose wasn't the Zadie My Thorne could have been youthful too, exactly. No, No, it was so funny. Um, but I would say, um, my Thorn, it's probably learning about the massive snake that sat above your head. I know that we didn't see that, but now, like man, all doors to paradise are closed. He made a friend, right right, No, that's true, that's so true. Um. But my rose would probably have to be like getting to see Casey blossom and like his humor and just being really because like you know, you see a little bit of that, but having the world get to see that. I would say, that's my that's my rose. That's what I'm excited for. And you know, like the relationships and the love and stuff too, but like humor can't beat it. Are gonna love him to see? Yes, um, those are great ones. Okay, I'm gonna say, my Thorn. This actually also could be my rose because it was pretty entertaining, but it was so cringe worthy. Is the swerve that was the kiss between Romeo and Brittany so awkward, so fringe worthy. Again, very entertaining for me, but like putting myself back in like trying to like be in their positions, so awkward on both accounts. It just it was a mess. Maybe look no, it made me look harder because I was like, I've got to see this again, um um, And can I give two roses? I have to because there's one thing because Michelle and I usually recap each episode and we didn't at the top of this one. So one was the though it was slightly too long and didn't execute as well as I would hope. The reenactment with Wells and Sally's suitcase with the women at the bar was gold. It gave me like flashbacks to drunken history with that show. It's such a good show that like watching Wells be this producer with like this luggage, it's a key player in the game. It's clearly it stand out contestant. There was the luggage, So that reenactment, I would say it was great. Um. And then my other rose is just being able to see I feel like because I've been out of this show for so long and like I was able to do the two or seeing like friends on the beach, like Andrew and Justin, who I consider like a little brothers to me, as annoying and wonderful as they are, like to see them kind of go through like this journey now and like navigate the hard parts and like the really fun parts. It's just been fun. You know. I feel for them when they get their hearts broken, but that's like for anyone. But it's just fun to see people that I now consider like family and friends go through this crazy, incredible journey because it can be so worthwhile. So that's that's one of my roses too. He has a good head on the shoulders um seems very wise and yeah, I'm kind of I'm excited to see see how this turns out for him. I am too. I mean, obviously, I love the love stories on this show and I'm really rooting for everyone to find somebody and I really really hope he does, so we will continue to watch him and find out.
