<v Speaker 1>Hello, Welcome to the Game Informer Show, a weekly podcast
<v Speaker 1>covering the video game industry. Join us every Thursday for
<v Speaker 1>a discussion about the latest gaming news, reviews, and exclusive reveals,
<v Speaker 1>alongside Game Informer staff and special guests from around the industry.
<v Speaker 1>I'm hosting today. I am Kyle Hilliard, Alex and Marcus
<v Speaker 1>who usually host and co host or you know, vice
<v Speaker 1>versa or whatever. They're out on assignment. They're out doing
<v Speaker 1>fancy things that you'll learn about later. Sorry to be
<v Speaker 1>a team and for once, I'm not, I know, but
<v Speaker 1>you'll be going out very soon. That voice was Brian
<v Speaker 1>Shay's what's up? Brian?
<v Speaker 2>Hey, I am just you know, flying high off of
<v Speaker 2>that Nintendo direct that happened earlier this week and also
<v Speaker 2>you know, pretty big DLC release this week that we're
<v Speaker 2>gonna be talking about.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, no, I feel good about that Nintendo stuff as well,
<v Speaker 1>which we will talk about. But before we do that,
<v Speaker 1>let's introduce Charles Hart. What's up?
<v Speaker 2>Charles?
<v Speaker 3>What's popping?
<v Speaker 2>What?
<v Speaker 4>I never know what people are supposed to answer to
<v Speaker 4>that question. I always say it because it's like a
<v Speaker 4>fun way of me being like hello, but like maybe
<v Speaker 4>maybe everyone sooo be like the.
<v Speaker 1>Popcorn Charles Hart, the Charles the Popcorn Heart.
<v Speaker 3>Charles Popping Heart.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. I don't think we're gonna commit to that, but
<v Speaker 1>maybe for one episode. Remember when Ben on the Minmax
<v Speaker 1>Shal recently just called you Chuck inexplicably and it was
<v Speaker 1>just so weird and I didn't like it. In my ears,
<v Speaker 1>I was just listening as a fan.
<v Speaker 4>It wasn't even as like an introduction. He was like, oh,
<v Speaker 4>by the way, Chuck, like I really like, I really
<v Speaker 4>like soft, launching a new nickname mid conversation, just with
<v Speaker 4>no intro, just like.
<v Speaker 3>Being like, yeah, by the way, Chuck whatever. And I
<v Speaker 3>was like, WHOA, Okay.
<v Speaker 2>Well, to be fair, your social media handle is Chuck
<v Speaker 2>Duck three sis five.
<v Speaker 4>This is true. I, as a like fourth grader, was like,
<v Speaker 4>I should go by Chuck. That seems like a cool
<v Speaker 4>thing to do. But my mom has always been very insistent.
<v Speaker 4>She's like, I named you Charles. I didn't name you Chuck.
<v Speaker 2>I named Charlie.
<v Speaker 3>I didn't name you Chazz Charles.
<v Speaker 2>I one time asked Joe Juba like if he ever
<v Speaker 2>went by anything other than Joe when he was like younger,
<v Speaker 2>because Joe seems like very much like an adult name,
<v Speaker 2>and I was like, I can't picture him as like
<v Speaker 2>a Joey Juba, you know. So he did go by
<v Speaker 2>Joseph as a child, but a little bit more acceptable
<v Speaker 2>as a child. But who knows, maybe Joe is a
<v Speaker 2>booming name in the childhood circles these days. I don't know.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I always wanted nicknames when I was a kid,
<v Speaker 1>but like, Kyle is so succinct and isn't really short
<v Speaker 1>or long for anything else. So it was always Kyle.
<v Speaker 1>But then when I came to Game Informer, I don't
<v Speaker 1>you guys would have to go listen to like old
<v Speaker 1>episodes of replay, but Ryner was just calling me Kyle Stripe.
<v Speaker 1>I don't remember why that came up, just Kyle Strife,
<v Speaker 1>like it was like a it was a final Fantasy
<v Speaker 1>seven reference, a game that I'm not wasn't like a
<v Speaker 1>super fan of or anything like. I don't remember. So
<v Speaker 1>that was my first nickname was Ryan.
<v Speaker 2>Because you had big hair.
<v Speaker 1>I genuinely no idea. If anyone knows or like remembers
<v Speaker 1>what episode of replay that came up on, I would
<v Speaker 1>love for it to be sent to me.
<v Speaker 4>Did you ever like interrogate it in the moment or
<v Speaker 4>are you just like this is me now or this
<v Speaker 4>is me to this person.
<v Speaker 1>I think I did. It was it was like it
<v Speaker 1>was literally like my first or second episode of replay.
<v Speaker 1>So I was still like nervous and trying to figure
<v Speaker 1>out what was happening. Yeah, so I don't know if
<v Speaker 1>I was ready to be like what is your what
<v Speaker 1>are you talking about? As much as well, my boss
<v Speaker 1>is calling me Kyle's strife and that's just my life now.
<v Speaker 4>The one one cool thing about my name nickname wise,
<v Speaker 4>is if you say Charles Hart really fast, over and
<v Speaker 4>over again, it sounds like you're saying Charizard.
<v Speaker 2>That is objectively the coolest nickname you could have.
<v Speaker 1>Let's get to the show. Enough with the nicknames Charizard
<v Speaker 1>and BChE. Let's just let's just move on trying out
<v Speaker 1>some nicknames.
<v Speaker 2>Well, to be fair, that was my nickname in high school.
<v Speaker 1>Niche really? Yes, was that other Brian's or something?
<v Speaker 2>I don't they'd be just garded calling me that.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, I technically came up with it just now, and
<v Speaker 1>I don't like it.
<v Speaker 4>I say he came up it and immediately decided against it.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, this this week has been cool. It felt
<v Speaker 1>like we were getting away from Summer Game Fest and
<v Speaker 1>everything related to Summer Game Fest, and then Nintendo was like,
<v Speaker 1>by the way, in less than twenty four hours, gonna
<v Speaker 1>have a bunch of announcements see tomorrow. And that's like,
<v Speaker 1>which is like how they do it, And so we
<v Speaker 1>are going to talk about Nintendo's but I actually want
<v Speaker 1>to lead the show with Elden Ring Shadow of the
<v Speaker 1>urg Tree DLC, which is out on Friday. If you're
<v Speaker 1>listening to this on the day it comes out June
<v Speaker 1>twenty first. That comes out on all available platforms that
<v Speaker 1>the game is on, PC, PlayStation five, Xbox Series X
<v Speaker 1>and S. You do need the base game. It's not standalone,
<v Speaker 1>and I have been playing it. I have not beaten it.
<v Speaker 1>I would estimate that I am probably in the forty
<v Speaker 1>percent zone, maybe coming up on half something like that.
<v Speaker 1>Marcus Stewart reviewed the game for Game Informer and he
<v Speaker 1>quite liked it. I actually have not read his review.
<v Speaker 1>I was off the day that he was looking for
<v Speaker 1>edits on that, but I saw that he gave it
<v Speaker 1>a nine point seventy five. So it seems like Marcus
<v Speaker 1>is quite happy with it.
<v Speaker 2>Decent score. By the way, before we go further, it
<v Speaker 2>is on PS four and Xbox one as.
<v Speaker 1>Well, thank you, Yes, all right, yeah, I'm playing on
<v Speaker 1>PS five. I don't know whe Marcus played it. He
<v Speaker 1>probably played on PS five as well, but yeah, so
<v Speaker 1>believe you did. Where are you guys with elden Ring?
<v Speaker 1>Are you like, I forget where you're at, Brian, I
<v Speaker 1>know you're like hit or or mostly miss on from
<v Speaker 1>in general. Right.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. So I played probably like ten fifteen hours maybe
<v Speaker 2>of elden Ring when it first came out, and I
<v Speaker 2>was really digging it, and then I kind of just
<v Speaker 2>fell off. I was like, you know what, I need
<v Speaker 2>a game that allows me to progress a little bit
<v Speaker 2>more steadily because I was trying to be like efficient
<v Speaker 2>with my gaming time because you know, when we're in
<v Speaker 2>this job, we have to play as much stuff as possible.
<v Speaker 2>And I was like, all right, well, elden Ring has
<v Speaker 2>enough advocates. I can move on from this and like
<v Speaker 2>check out other games that we might want to talk
<v Speaker 2>about in other capacities, whether it's on a podcast, whether
<v Speaker 2>that's writing features about it or talking about it. At
<v Speaker 2>the end of the year, I was like, all right,
<v Speaker 2>enough people are on staff that can talk about elden Ring.
<v Speaker 2>I'm gonna move on to something else. I'll come back eventually.
<v Speaker 2>I never really did. So when this came out out,
<v Speaker 2>I you know, before review codes came in, I was
<v Speaker 2>actually out at Summer Game Fest and I got to
<v Speaker 2>sit down with hit Ataka Miyazaki and have a really good,
<v Speaker 2>in depth conversation with him, not only about ur Tree,
<v Speaker 2>but also like, you know, why Bloodborne is so special
<v Speaker 2>to him, Why how Sekiro kinda Securo and Bloodborne kind
<v Speaker 2>of helped lead to elden Ring. Just go check out
<v Speaker 2>that interview on Game Informer dot com if you are
<v Speaker 2>interested in that. And then, like, you know, seeing all
<v Speaker 2>the hype and buzz around it, maybe really want to
<v Speaker 2>dive back into elden Ring. So I started a new
<v Speaker 2>save file, and I'm I want to say, like eight
<v Speaker 2>hours in now, and I'm already further. I'm already further
<v Speaker 2>in the story than I was in my first attempt,
<v Speaker 2>because my first attempt I just kind of wandered aimlessly.
<v Speaker 2>And I did like some of like the the like
<v Speaker 2>optional boss fights and everything in the what are they called,
<v Speaker 2>like where you go down under caverns.
<v Speaker 1>I forget what they're called catacombs.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, So I did a few of those, and
<v Speaker 2>I was really proud of like the ones that I
<v Speaker 2>took down, especially being fairly low level, but I never
<v Speaker 2>really progressed like with like story bosses, Like I got
<v Speaker 2>to Marget and he just wrecked me, and I was like,
<v Speaker 2>all right, well, I think that's enough, elden Ring. And
<v Speaker 2>this time, I'm like, you know, well past market at
<v Speaker 2>this point. So I am making steady progress, but I'm
<v Speaker 2>only like level twenty two, twenty three something like that.
<v Speaker 2>So if you're still you're pretty early on.
<v Speaker 1>If you're past Marget, like that's a good Like I
<v Speaker 1>don't you know, I don't know if you'll keep playing
<v Speaker 1>a lot, you know, you have professional obligations and stuff
<v Speaker 1>like that, you might fall off again. But like once
<v Speaker 1>you get past that first boss, that's like the first
<v Speaker 1>big skill check. That's like if you're if you're past this,
<v Speaker 1>like you're you're kind of in. You kind of know
<v Speaker 1>what to expect and you kind of know what kind
<v Speaker 1>of hurdles that you will surprise yourself being capable of overcoming.
<v Speaker 2>Which is funny because people said that same thing about
<v Speaker 2>Father Gascoyne in Bloodborne, and that was the exact final
<v Speaker 2>thing that I did in Bloodborne was I beat Father
<v Speaker 2>Guests going on my second attempt. I think it wasn't
<v Speaker 2>even like I was stuck on him, but like brag
<v Speaker 2>Dan kept going, Dan Tac kept going, Oh, once you
<v Speaker 2>get past him like that, that's when you know, like
<v Speaker 2>you're in. And I beat that, and I played for
<v Speaker 2>maybe like ten or fifteen more minutes, and I was like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>I'm done. But I really liked like Bloodborne, like I
<v Speaker 2>really enjoyed it. I think that like the games kind
<v Speaker 2>of have like a shelf life for me, even though
<v Speaker 2>I very much enjoy like the segments that I play.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, dark Souls and demon Souls have never really
<v Speaker 2>stuck with me, and Seciro I kind of bounced off immediately.
<v Speaker 2>But like Bloodborne, I was loving that game for as
<v Speaker 2>long as I played it, and then I just got
<v Speaker 2>to a point where I'm like, oh, I think I've
<v Speaker 2>seen enough. And elden Ring was kind of that way
<v Speaker 2>for me in twenty twenty two, but now I feel
<v Speaker 2>like I'm a little bit more compelled to keep going
<v Speaker 2>with it this time around.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, it is a series. I was, I like
<v Speaker 1>weirdly got on board during Dark Souls two, and it
<v Speaker 1>was bec because I was like, I'm gonna commit to this.
<v Speaker 1>I'm not a person who uses guides ever, but for
<v Speaker 1>Dark Souls too, I was like, let me crack open
<v Speaker 1>a guide and follow this a little bit. And I
<v Speaker 1>think that really helped me sort of understand what to
<v Speaker 1>get from those games. And I still struggle with them tremendously.
<v Speaker 1>And I don't if you are if you like, if
<v Speaker 1>you bounce off a from Sophomore game, like I totally
<v Speaker 1>get it. It's not like the kind of game that
<v Speaker 1>I'm gonna sit there and try to convince you that
<v Speaker 1>you should like it, you know, but it is like
<v Speaker 1>you gotta you gotta be ready to go all in,
<v Speaker 1>Like it's time for one of these, you know, And
<v Speaker 1>elden Ring is like the best of all of them. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>as much as I love Sekero, but.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I'm trying to go into it with like more
<v Speaker 2>of like, Okay, well if I fail in this, I
<v Speaker 2>can just go explore elsewhere and like you know, grind
<v Speaker 2>for like ruins and everything to like level up my
<v Speaker 2>character and find other stuff. And like there's so much
<v Speaker 2>that you can do outside of the main storyline. Like
<v Speaker 2>I said, I barely did the main storyline my first
<v Speaker 2>attempt at playing, so now I'm kind of going into
<v Speaker 2>it the mindset of like, Okay, I can do like
<v Speaker 2>follow loosely along the main storyline, but if I get
<v Speaker 2>stuck somewhere, I can just go out and like just
<v Speaker 2>traverse the world and like make my own challenges, like oh,
<v Speaker 2>I want to clear this camp of enemies, or you know,
<v Speaker 2>I want to go see what's on this corner of
<v Speaker 2>the map. And then there's almost always it has that
<v Speaker 2>kind of breath of the wild, tears of the Kingdom
<v Speaker 2>quality of like I don't know what's going to be
<v Speaker 2>on the other side of that mountain or that cliff
<v Speaker 2>or whatever, but it's probably something cool, and it will
<v Speaker 2>kill me the and it will almost certainly kill it
<v Speaker 2>will kill you, I mean, And honestly that was what
<v Speaker 2>That was something that it hit a talk at me,
<v Speaker 2>Aszaki said to me about like, you know, one of
<v Speaker 2>the core concepts of these souls like games is you know,
<v Speaker 2>death is a part of the process. It's not just
<v Speaker 2>like oh you failed, sorry, go try again. It's like, no,
<v Speaker 2>like you learn something every single time you die, and
<v Speaker 2>that is what you carry into it, and like you know,
<v Speaker 2>that's why they put the runes there or the stuff
<v Speaker 2>that you drop right where you died. So you have
<v Speaker 2>to go back and try to confront that challenge again.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's like, hey, it turns out. Look, I don't
<v Speaker 1>want get ahead of ourselves here, but pretty well designed
<v Speaker 1>series of games.
<v Speaker 2>And also I learned that that Miyazaki is still heavily
<v Speaker 2>involved in like creating the level design for all of
<v Speaker 2>their titles, Like he almost had like that that Sokkari
<v Speaker 2>level of like you know, I probably could like delegate
<v Speaker 2>this to somebody else, but I really want to make
<v Speaker 2>sure we get this right.
<v Speaker 1>Like personally, well, Brian, I genuinely hope that you kind
<v Speaker 1>of it pulls you in and you see it to
<v Speaker 1>the end and even play the DLC because like it
<v Speaker 1>really is like one of my favorite gaming experiences ever period.
<v Speaker 1>I mean truly, if I really think about it, elden Ring,
<v Speaker 1>I mean, it's up there.
<v Speaker 3>You know.
<v Speaker 1>I had a friend to me who was like complaining
<v Speaker 1>that like this generation has underwhelmed him just overall, and
<v Speaker 1>I was like maybe, but like Breath of the Wild
<v Speaker 1>Tears that came to an elden Ring are like some
<v Speaker 1>of my favorite games ever period, and they're like all
<v Speaker 1>this generation. You know, Charles, where are you? I don't
<v Speaker 1>know where you are on the elden Ring train.
<v Speaker 3>There I go, elden Ring.
<v Speaker 4>It's a weird instance of a game. It came out
<v Speaker 4>like right before I joined Games Media, because I started
<v Speaker 4>in May of twenty two. It came out in like February,
<v Speaker 4>I think so, but I got I was playing it
<v Speaker 4>like on and off all throughout twenty twenty two. I
<v Speaker 4>stopped at about forty hours in. And the only reason
<v Speaker 4>I stopped is because I just kept getting kind of
<v Speaker 4>annoyed because I would be like I would just be
<v Speaker 4>ready to commit and just like go through the main storyline,
<v Speaker 4>and then I get to a spot and it's like, sorry,
<v Speaker 4>you actually can't get through here because of the.
<v Speaker 3>Thing, and I like wouldn't know what was going on.
<v Speaker 4>I'd look it up and I have to go to
<v Speaker 4>like a random castle and I just booted it up
<v Speaker 4>just now and I was like, oh, I guess I
<v Speaker 4>need a medallion to get this, and I guess I
<v Speaker 4>got it, And so I just got into like the
<v Speaker 4>Atlas Plateau I think it's called like a whole new
<v Speaker 4>area of a map. You need to go up an
<v Speaker 4>elevator to do so. I beat Radon, I think was
<v Speaker 4>the most recent one I did. I beat Lunala, I
<v Speaker 4>beat like a like I think three of the starting
<v Speaker 4>major bosses.
<v Speaker 3>Okay, and I I like the style of games a lot.
<v Speaker 4>But I also I'm I will always play like forty
<v Speaker 4>hours of them and then for whatever reason, be like
<v Speaker 4>that's as much as I can stomach. I really love
<v Speaker 4>this game. I really love Liza p I really love Peco.
<v Speaker 3>I have never beat any of them.
<v Speaker 4>I've come up to like a really hard boss and
<v Speaker 4>then I beat that boss. And I think the feeling
<v Speaker 4>of overcoming such an intense challenge in my brain is
<v Speaker 4>I'm just like, Okay, like, I may as well have
<v Speaker 4>beat the game right now. I can go on and
<v Speaker 4>do something else.
<v Speaker 3>Man.
<v Speaker 4>But yeah, so I I and I was surprised. I mean,
<v Speaker 4>I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I know a lot
<v Speaker 4>like from Soft DLC is often like post game content.
<v Speaker 4>I was surprised this when you don't have to beat
<v Speaker 4>the game to start it, but you do have to
<v Speaker 4>get like a lot of the way like I played
<v Speaker 4>for forty hours and I think I'm like level sixty something,
<v Speaker 4>and I looked up and they were like, yeah, if
<v Speaker 4>you want to beat Mogue, who's like the boss one
<v Speaker 4>of the boss you need to beat it. You should
<v Speaker 4>be like level one hundred. That was just like a
<v Speaker 4>random guide that I saw. So I'm not really even
<v Speaker 4>close to getting where it is, and I'm super far
<v Speaker 4>in so I'm I'm just interested in what I don't.
<v Speaker 4>I don't really understand what the area is. I like
<v Speaker 4>read Marcus's preview, I think, so I understand like what
<v Speaker 4>you do there, but like I don't understand the conceit
<v Speaker 4>of the DLC.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, well, yeah, let's get into it. I mean, I'm
<v Speaker 1>not going to spoil anything. I'm actually just generally the
<v Speaker 1>way I play the game is I'm not super invested
<v Speaker 1>in the lower and the story of the world, so
<v Speaker 1>like I couldn't even really spoil a lot of things
<v Speaker 1>if I if I wanted to. But yeah, you you
<v Speaker 1>don't need to beat the game. My understanding is you
<v Speaker 1>need to beat red On and then which I thought
<v Speaker 1>it was Mog, but it's actually Mog. Jacob Keller told me,
<v Speaker 1>just like just like an hour ago, and yeah, he's
<v Speaker 1>like he he's like an optional boss in the main game,
<v Speaker 1>but once you defeat I Actually it was funny. I
<v Speaker 1>booted up my game and I'm like one hundred and
<v Speaker 1>sixty hours or something like that. I'm like level one eighty.
<v Speaker 1>I beat the game and then I knew game plused
<v Speaker 1>it and like beat the game again, which which sounds
<v Speaker 1>like a lot, but like because that game is so
<v Speaker 1>open ended, New Game Plus is actually a sprint, like
<v Speaker 1>if you knew what bosses to hit, you can just
<v Speaker 1>bam bam bam bammam knock out those bosses, which.
<v Speaker 2>Is red Is it easier that time through, because like
<v Speaker 2>do you retain your levels or gear or anything.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, you retain everything. So like it was funny because
<v Speaker 1>like there were a lot of bosses that I was
<v Speaker 1>stuck on for like days at a time than in
<v Speaker 1>that New Game Plus run, I just like did him
<v Speaker 1>in one try and like barely drink a single health
<v Speaker 1>item and it was very satisfying. But so I'm actually
<v Speaker 1>in and then what I had to do is actually
<v Speaker 1>had to go beat Mo before I got the DLC,
<v Speaker 1>which actually worked really well because I in my New
<v Speaker 1>Game Plus game I hadn't beat him, so that let
<v Speaker 1>me get my feet under me. It was funny because
<v Speaker 1>like I was like so lost when I boot to
<v Speaker 1>the game back up despite spending so much time on it,
<v Speaker 1>that on my compass on the top of the screen,
<v Speaker 1>I saw a symbol and I was like, oh, I
<v Speaker 1>must have put something interesting there that Hey, you know,
<v Speaker 1>here's a little task for me to do to retrain
<v Speaker 1>myself on the elder ring. And what I had been
<v Speaker 1>doing was just following the south direction on the compass.
<v Speaker 1>I thought the s was like an item or something.
<v Speaker 1>It was very much.
<v Speaker 2>I did that as well. Like I was like, because
<v Speaker 2>like it's like a stylized.
<v Speaker 1>I don't I have no excuse.
<v Speaker 2>It almost looks like a lightning bolt. Now, oh something
<v Speaker 2>over here must be cool, and it's like, oh no,
<v Speaker 2>I'm just going south.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. So, but what happens is the the arena where
<v Speaker 1>you fought Mogue, which is like advice here, like go
<v Speaker 1>fight mode.
<v Speaker 2>Now.
<v Speaker 1>The DLC comes out on June twenty first, Like take
<v Speaker 1>care of Mogue now, because what will happen is once
<v Speaker 1>you install the DLC, there'll be a character in that
<v Speaker 1>arena that I'll tell you to like, yeah, touch this
<v Speaker 1>egg thing, and then you touch it, and then what
<v Speaker 1>happens is you actually get fully transported to a whole
<v Speaker 1>different section entirely. Like it's not in the sense of like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>we're putting you at the most northern point of the
<v Speaker 1>map where we've made a new island, Like it is
<v Speaker 1>a totally separate map that you selected differently. And I
<v Speaker 1>really like that approach because it basically creates this like
<v Speaker 1>mini elden ring, like off to the side that you
<v Speaker 1>kind of feel like you're starting in the same way
<v Speaker 1>you started the last one. Like it's super fun to
<v Speaker 1>just be dropped into this place and be like, oh
<v Speaker 1>my god, what is that thing in the distance? Like
<v Speaker 1>I got to experience that all over again, but on
<v Speaker 1>a smaller scale, so like I'm really enjoying it. Like
<v Speaker 1>I don't want to get into specifics because I don't
<v Speaker 1>want to spoil things. I don't want to describe bosses
<v Speaker 1>or locations, but it's it's and it's like a boring take,
<v Speaker 1>but it's more elden Ring and it's like great, it's
<v Speaker 1>like a shrunken elden ring off to the side, So
<v Speaker 1>you get to have like the emotions that you had
<v Speaker 1>when you started playing elden Ring, but in a completely
<v Speaker 1>different place on like a smaller scale, Like it's not
<v Speaker 1>gonna be as big as the main game, and I'm
<v Speaker 1>also grateful that it's not at so far at least,
<v Speaker 1>and like I said, maybe about halfway, I've done like
<v Speaker 1>three main bosses and like two side bosses. I haven't
<v Speaker 1>hit anything that felt impossible, Like it doesn't seem significantly
<v Speaker 1>harder than the main game, which is good. Like, maybe
<v Speaker 1>it's not good for you. Maybe you wanted like an
<v Speaker 1>extreme final challenge for elden Ring, but that's not really
<v Speaker 1>what I like about elden Ring. So I and I
<v Speaker 1>am very over leveled. I'm like level one ninety, I
<v Speaker 1>think something like that. And I so I've been hitting
<v Speaker 1>a level of challenge that I like, where like last night,
<v Speaker 1>I probably tried the boss I was on eight times
<v Speaker 1>and it was like, and that's good, Like that's as
<v Speaker 1>long as I'm not like trying it a thousand times
<v Speaker 1>and as long as I'm not trying it once, That's
<v Speaker 1>kind of where I like to be with from games.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I don't know what level Marcus was at when
<v Speaker 2>he reviewed it, but I do know that again, spoiler free.
<v Speaker 2>He did say that some of the later challenges are
<v Speaker 2>extremely difficult.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, well that's a little intimidating, but I mean, I'm
<v Speaker 1>in man, I don't. I don't. I can't imagine a
<v Speaker 1>world where I don't see it to the end unless
<v Speaker 1>I really because like I'll just if I hit something
<v Speaker 1>that's really brutally destroying me, I will go. There's a
<v Speaker 1>couple places where you can go level up pretty quickly
<v Speaker 1>that I took full advantage of when I was playing
<v Speaker 1>the main game that I will revisit.
<v Speaker 2>Kyle, let me ask you a question framed through a
<v Speaker 2>shared franchise that we adore a g al Numa.
<v Speaker 1>You know, I franchise a g Alnuma.
<v Speaker 2>He is the series producer of the Legend of Zelda franchise.
<v Speaker 2>He has very fine with much finality. Said that, like,
<v Speaker 2>we're not doing anything else with like this version of
<v Speaker 2>high roll, right right, We're not doing any DLC for
<v Speaker 2>Tears of the Kingdom or anything like that. What if
<v Speaker 2>they did like a Shadow of the Urd Tree style
<v Speaker 2>DLC for Tiers of the king We'll call it Shadow
<v Speaker 2>of the Decu Tree, and they they transported you to
<v Speaker 2>other areas, but they kind of satisfy that curiosity that
<v Speaker 2>people have had of like oh what if like other
<v Speaker 2>games were made in this style? So Link has to
<v Speaker 2>go back in time, which is a core conceit of
<v Speaker 2>the Tiers of the Kingdom game and the story to
<v Speaker 2>other versions of High Rule, whether that be like oh,
<v Speaker 2>you're playing in like the a Link to the Past
<v Speaker 2>High Rule or you're playing in the Okerina of Time
<v Speaker 2>High Rule and you just it's not like a full
<v Speaker 2>story of like flat like you're not playing through the
<v Speaker 2>entire like Okerina of Time story, but you're visiting there
<v Speaker 2>and like you're doing like story driven quests, Like would
<v Speaker 2>you be satisfied with that?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah? You had me had Zelda DLC like was like
<v Speaker 1>so but yeah no absolutely yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Like when you when you when you mentioned like how
<v Speaker 2>because like you know, there's so many similarities between like
<v Speaker 2>that you can draw between Breath of the Wild and
<v Speaker 2>elden Ring in terms of like evolving these series or
<v Speaker 2>in from Software's case, like the sub genre in in
<v Speaker 2>different ways that it kind of made me think like, oh, well,
<v Speaker 2>like what if, like you know, they were done with
<v Speaker 2>this version of High Rule, but what if like Link
<v Speaker 2>had to go to like you know where the one
<v Speaker 2>of like the maybe the optional quests again trying to
<v Speaker 2>stey a clear of spoilers, the big optional mainline quest
<v Speaker 2>that happens in that in Tiers of the Kingdom, and
<v Speaker 2>like you go to a spot that once you complete that,
<v Speaker 2>you can touch this item and it teleports you back
<v Speaker 2>to you know, other eras of High Rule and you're
<v Speaker 2>like able to explore those in like the Tears of
<v Speaker 2>the Kingdom or Breath of the Wild style of gameplay.
<v Speaker 1>That sounds amazing.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I'm just spitballing here, Okay, like I don't know
<v Speaker 2>anything about.
<v Speaker 1>But I mean because I don't.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know anything about elden Ring DLC. I'm saying that, right, if.
<v Speaker 1>They took an if they just to sort of loop
<v Speaker 1>back around, if they took an elden Ring, if they
<v Speaker 1>took an ur Tree approach to Cheers the Kingdom, right,
<v Speaker 1>and they were like, we're gonna make a whole it
<v Speaker 1>would basically be the equivalent of like it wouldn't have
<v Speaker 1>to call back to anything, but it's like we're going
<v Speaker 1>to make a new section that's about a quarter of
<v Speaker 1>the size of High Roll and Breath of the Wild
<v Speaker 1>for you to explore. That'd be really cool. But I
<v Speaker 1>will say that would be sort of against One of
<v Speaker 1>the things that makes those games so wonderful is that,
<v Speaker 1>like they it is all one big connected thing, right,
<v Speaker 1>Like elden Ring has a little bit there's a couple
<v Speaker 1>places you can go that are disconnected. There's an underground
<v Speaker 1>area in elden Ring that it technically exists as a
<v Speaker 1>separate map, right and you do you know, you can
<v Speaker 1>get there without going through a loading screen, but it
<v Speaker 1>feels different than like Tiers of the Kingdom's underground area
<v Speaker 1>where you just like you just fall in there and
<v Speaker 1>you could go in there from a bunch of different
<v Speaker 1>places and stuff like that. But I mean, yeah, if
<v Speaker 1>if they if they wanted to take an ur Tree
<v Speaker 1>approach to Tears of the Kingdom content like yeah, absolutely,
<v Speaker 1>Like just make a little mini like area that I
<v Speaker 1>can go explore and get excited about. Yeah, that'd be awesome.
<v Speaker 1>And that's and that's what I feel like I'm getting
<v Speaker 1>out of bir Tree is like a mini elden Ring
<v Speaker 1>with new stuff that's exciting to see.
<v Speaker 4>Sure, I have an urger question, are you think do
<v Speaker 4>you think it's uh easier because you're in your New
<v Speaker 4>Game Plus run or do you think that the ease
<v Speaker 4>of your New Game Plus has a lot to do
<v Speaker 4>with you like knowing what to expect.
<v Speaker 1>I've actually heard often that when you when you are
<v Speaker 1>in New Game Plus, you do go into it overpowered,
<v Speaker 1>like in from games in general, you are overpowered, but
<v Speaker 1>the game is harder. It's basically like playing the game
<v Speaker 1>on a higher difficulty with a stronger character, right. I
<v Speaker 1>don't have the sense that what I'm playing here is
<v Speaker 1>like a harder version. I don't have a point of
<v Speaker 1>comparison for what er Tree is on a non New
<v Speaker 1>Game Plus save. I got rid of that save. I
<v Speaker 1>have one save for elden Ring, which is just my
<v Speaker 1>New Game Plus save. So I don't know. I don't
<v Speaker 1>Supposedly it is harder, but I think I'm just way
<v Speaker 1>over leveled in a way that I'm like happy to be.
<v Speaker 1>I want to be over leveled to take on these
<v Speaker 1>challenges like I'm not. I mean, I'm at a point
<v Speaker 1>now where most of the enemies I encounter I can
<v Speaker 1>kill them in like three to four hits. And the
<v Speaker 1>most challenging sections of any from game are where you
<v Speaker 1>go someplace new and you're underpowered, and every encounter it
<v Speaker 1>feels like a boss fight.
<v Speaker 3>You know.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I haven't hit that. I haven't hit any overpowered
<v Speaker 1>enemy that I'm like that I absolutely dread because I
<v Speaker 1>know this is going to be like a five minute fight.
<v Speaker 4>You know, what, what like bill do you use when
<v Speaker 4>you play?
<v Speaker 1>It's a good question that I don't fully know the
<v Speaker 1>answer to, embarrassingly, but I basically and I was talking
<v Speaker 1>about this to Marcus and he was making fun of me,
<v Speaker 1>but I basically found a weapon I liked in the
<v Speaker 1>first five minutes of the game and have never unequipped it.
<v Speaker 1>I have just wholly just thrown all my upgrade material
<v Speaker 1>into that one weapon. It's like plus twenty five and
<v Speaker 1>I've just it's two two like swords and that I
<v Speaker 1>just use. I don't I don't like using shields. I
<v Speaker 1>like rolling. I like I like being nimble and my
<v Speaker 1>big my big move is I sprint right up to
<v Speaker 1>you and I just hit you like three or four
<v Speaker 1>times with my swords.
<v Speaker 2>Wow, that's a completely different experience than I'm having where
<v Speaker 2>I'm trying to use like the shield and then I
<v Speaker 2>block the attack and then I land a heavy parry
<v Speaker 2>on them, and yeah.
<v Speaker 1>No, I'm just I run in, hit you run out.
<v Speaker 1>I have one attack that I found, like a magic
<v Speaker 1>attack on the left trigger where I shoot like a
<v Speaker 1>tornado at you and I can stay like fifteen or
<v Speaker 1>twenty feet away from you and just and I'll just
<v Speaker 1>use up all my magic on that one attack because
<v Speaker 1>it has a lot of pushback as well. But I'm
<v Speaker 1>very much like just the play style I am. I
<v Speaker 1>don't like shields. And Marcus is even tell me, he
<v Speaker 1>was like, you know, you should try different weapons, Like
<v Speaker 1>you can pick up a weapon that is like the
<v Speaker 1>one you have that's like stronger against dragons, you know
<v Speaker 1>what I mean, Like it will just do more damage
<v Speaker 1>to that creature. And I was just like, well, Marcus,
<v Speaker 1>But then I gotta go. I gotta go to the table,
<v Speaker 1>and I gotta talk to the smith, and I gotta
<v Speaker 1>I gotta give him a bunch of stones to get
<v Speaker 1>that thing leveled up to like where I my my
<v Speaker 1>old my standby weapons are all the time, and I
<v Speaker 1>gotta go into menus and I gotta read distance. That's
<v Speaker 1>so stupid. I'm just I'm very lazy. I'm weirdly lazy
<v Speaker 1>when it comes to these games.
<v Speaker 3>No, I get it.
<v Speaker 4>I I'm I I was, I'm I'm a full magic person.
<v Speaker 3>I was surprised Melee.
<v Speaker 4>I always thought I always heard magic was easier, and
<v Speaker 4>I was like, why make it any harder for myself?
<v Speaker 4>But I think I think the thing I and I'm not.
<v Speaker 4>I don't know, saying anything about ellen Ming feels so
<v Speaker 4>dumb because it's like, like was is one of the
<v Speaker 4>biggest games in years, So I feel like everything abouts
<v Speaker 4>or even said. But I enjoyed that. It's difficult, but
<v Speaker 4>it's very flexible, like the fact that you picked up
<v Speaker 4>one weapon, Kyle, and you were still using it like
<v Speaker 4>one hundred whatever hours later, and that's okay that I'm like, oh, okay,
<v Speaker 4>I guess. I guess it matters less that I'm I
<v Speaker 4>don't know, smart or specific about what I'm doing, and
<v Speaker 4>more just that I'm persistent or just make any decision.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. No, I mean, that's that's one of the joys
<v Speaker 1>of that game, is it's flexibility. But I just I'm
<v Speaker 1>the type of player that gets bogged down in flexibility.
<v Speaker 1>I actually don't like a lot of choices in general,
<v Speaker 1>m when it comes to that kind of thing. But
<v Speaker 1>but I recognize that I'm a bit of a weirdo
<v Speaker 1>in that re.
<v Speaker 2>So are you not like a fan of like deck
<v Speaker 2>Builders or anything like that.
<v Speaker 3>Not?
<v Speaker 2>Okay, so you never got into like Marvel Snap or
<v Speaker 2>any any of those phenomenons.
<v Speaker 1>Nope. I could not be less interested in that style
<v Speaker 1>of game, especially when it's pre to play.
<v Speaker 4>I uh, I don't know if you know this, Kyle.
<v Speaker 4>I broke my glasses the night before I had to
<v Speaker 4>fly out for summer game fests.
<v Speaker 2>Oh no, no, I like.
<v Speaker 4>Literally snapped on the bridge. I was like cleaning them
<v Speaker 4>and they were half I had like really old glasses,
<v Speaker 4>but I brought the broken pair with me. I landed
<v Speaker 4>at lax immediately ubered to like the first glasses repair place,
<v Speaker 4>and it was like two minutes after they opened. I
<v Speaker 4>put my two pieces of glasses on the counter and
<v Speaker 4>the guy was like, yeah, I can't fix this, and
<v Speaker 4>I was like oho, and he was like, but I
<v Speaker 4>can just put the frames into new I can put
<v Speaker 4>the lenses into new frames. And I was like, oh, okay,
<v Speaker 4>And in my head I was like I didn't realize
<v Speaker 4>you could do that. I for some reason thought like
<v Speaker 4>lenses were specific to frames, but because my lenses were
<v Speaker 4>already certain shape. He was like, oh, here's like the
<v Speaker 4>five I have that fit this.
<v Speaker 1>OK.
<v Speaker 4>I was like, this is this is perfect five. I
<v Speaker 4>have choices. If you ever go to pick out glasses,
<v Speaker 4>it's like, here's a wall of like ninety glasses. No pressure.
<v Speaker 4>This is gonna be your like visual identity for the
<v Speaker 4>next several years.
<v Speaker 3>Of your life.
<v Speaker 4>Ye get the glasses I'm wearing now out of like four,
<v Speaker 4>and I was like, perfect, that's all I want.
<v Speaker 2>I like them.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. No, yeah, that's that's me. I get. I get
<v Speaker 1>paralyzed by, like, you know, having to pick from a
<v Speaker 1>million things.
<v Speaker 3>It's just me.
<v Speaker 1>Just give me the two swords I started with. I
<v Speaker 1>can level those up and make those stronger. Great, I'll
<v Speaker 1>do that. Yeah yeah, but yeah, or tree. There's a
<v Speaker 1>million things to say about it. The game's not out yet,
<v Speaker 1>so I don't want to I don't want to describe
<v Speaker 1>too much of stuff. But like, I'm very happy with it.
<v Speaker 1>I'm excited to keep playing. It's all I want to
<v Speaker 1>play right now.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, this conversation has me wanting to go and like
<v Speaker 2>fire up elden Ring right now.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. I hope, I actually I really hope. You guys
<v Speaker 1>see it to the end, because it's like it is
<v Speaker 1>the most manageable from game because it's very not easy.
<v Speaker 1>It's not the right word, but it's like if you're
<v Speaker 1>if you hit a wall, you can go somewhere else
<v Speaker 1>and get stronger and come back, where in most from
<v Speaker 1>games you it's not as easy to do that. Sometimes
<v Speaker 1>you hit a boss and you have to beat that
<v Speaker 1>boss if you want to move on, and that's and
<v Speaker 1>that's life. But elden Ring gives you so much more
<v Speaker 1>flexibility in that regard. So I I hope you guys
<v Speaker 1>see it to the end and then play play Tree,
<v Speaker 1>because I really like it so far.
<v Speaker 3>It's good.
<v Speaker 2>I'm gonna get all the way to the final boss
<v Speaker 2>and there's not even attempted, just despite you.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, I'm be happy it's as much as you did.
<v Speaker 1>All Right, Well, let's move on from er Tree, which
<v Speaker 1>we'll probably talk about more next week, I imagine, because Marcus,
<v Speaker 1>I think I'll be back in town and we'll have
<v Speaker 1>more to say about it, and maybe you know, everyone
<v Speaker 1>will have had their hands on it at that point.
<v Speaker 1>But be excited. If you liked elden Ring, get excited
<v Speaker 1>for Shadow of er Tree. Let's let's talk about Nintendo stuff.
<v Speaker 1>There was a big Nintendo direct on Tuesday, which big
<v Speaker 1>is not the word I would have predicted. Frankly, honestly,
<v Speaker 1>I don't know why my expectations were so muted in retrospect,
<v Speaker 1>it's the summer presentation.
<v Speaker 2>I don'tah, but I think it's like it's felt like
<v Speaker 2>this whole year. I mean, you're in change really ever since,
<v Speaker 2>like aside from Mario Wonder, like the last calendar year,
<v Speaker 2>the last twelve months of Nintendo has felt almost like
<v Speaker 2>it's in like a wind down phase for Switch. And
<v Speaker 2>they even said like coming into this, like this is
<v Speaker 2>not going to talk at all about the Switch's successor
<v Speaker 2>this is going to be talking about don't even ask. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I tried to ask somebody and they shot me in
<v Speaker 2>the neck with a sleep Dart woke up under a
<v Speaker 2>bridge in Los Angeles. It was bad.
<v Speaker 1>So that's why that's where you weres, That's why you
<v Speaker 1>were Yeah, that's why on that one. What was it
<v Speaker 1>when there was a presentation, Actually I don't remember what
<v Speaker 1>it was where we were all disappeared and you disappeared
<v Speaker 1>and we're like, where's Brian. We thought you died? We
<v Speaker 1>thought asleep.
<v Speaker 2>God hit you, but somebody knocked on my door and
<v Speaker 2>I had to answer it, so that that is why.
<v Speaker 1>But yeah, yeah, let's I mean, let's just you know,
<v Speaker 1>art with the biggest stuff. I mean, Charles, what do
<v Speaker 1>you think was the biggest most exciting announcement.
<v Speaker 4>I was gonna I was gonna jokingly say as attorney
<v Speaker 4>Investigations collection, because I'm personally very excited for that.
<v Speaker 1>Well real quick, as a quick aside on that, I
<v Speaker 1>was telling my wife everything. I was like, yeah, that's
<v Speaker 1>just a good news Zelda game where you play Zelda.
<v Speaker 1>They announced this game looks cool. I think you'd be
<v Speaker 1>excited about it. And I was like, fifth down the line,
<v Speaker 1>I was like, and they and they're bringing the Miles
<v Speaker 1>Edgeworth game that never came out in America. They're finally
<v Speaker 1>bringing over here. And she was like, wait, wait, what
<v Speaker 1>why didn't you lead with that? What is wrong with
<v Speaker 1>You're alone?
<v Speaker 3>A group of people are very excited right now.
<v Speaker 4>No, it's definitely legend Zelda Echoes of Wisdom.
<v Speaker 3>I think that's so exciting.
<v Speaker 4>I think it's one of those games like just how
<v Speaker 4>Brian pitching his Tears of the Kingdom dalc really cool,
<v Speaker 4>but very much feels like that vibe of like Zelda
<v Speaker 4>fan pitching Zelda game of like, well.
<v Speaker 3>They would never do that.
<v Speaker 4>That's a bunch of cool things that like it's always
<v Speaker 4>a cool thing no one's ever thought of before. I
<v Speaker 4>feel like Lesion Zelda Echoes of Wisdom is very much
<v Speaker 4>like you play is Zelda, and it's the links awakening
<v Speaker 4>arts that like, it has pieces of things that I
<v Speaker 4>feel like a Zelda fan would come up with. You
<v Speaker 4>don't have just cool yeah, you know a sort instead,
<v Speaker 4>she's got the try Rod.
<v Speaker 3>That's right.
<v Speaker 4>We took triforce and combine it with the word rod,
<v Speaker 4>a famous magical root word in the Zelda game.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah.
<v Speaker 4>And the thing I wouldn't have expected is the whole ecosystem,
<v Speaker 4>which if you've seen the trailer, you know Zelda can
<v Speaker 4>like basically learn objects or enemies and then like scan
<v Speaker 4>them into the try Rod and then just create duplicates
<v Speaker 4>of them out in the field. So like you can
<v Speaker 4>use tables and then climb out on top of the tables,
<v Speaker 4>or you can make a trampoline then jump on stuff,
<v Speaker 4>or you can make a mobylin and then fight you know,
<v Speaker 4>gan in with.
<v Speaker 3>It or whatever. And that was really cool.
<v Speaker 4>I was really interested by that also, like I think.
<v Speaker 3>She she might just have a jump button, like that's
<v Speaker 3>kind of a big deal in that.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, no, she was, And and there's so much verticality
<v Speaker 4>like in her abilities, like it's it's specifically creating like
<v Speaker 4>platforming stuff. I just thought that was like a really
<v Speaker 4>interesting like way to separate it from like a traditional
<v Speaker 4>link adventure.
<v Speaker 2>Now did I see? I was kind of half watching
<v Speaker 2>the trailer and half like divving out assignments and proofing
<v Speaker 2>and everything. But did I see that they did have
<v Speaker 2>like the side scrolling perspective ye back in this as
<v Speaker 2>well like links Awakening, Okay, awesome?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, I.
<v Speaker 3>Mean patforming and water underwater stuff.
<v Speaker 1>I think it's safe to assume that Gretzo is fully
<v Speaker 1>developing this. Who did the links Awakening remaster and the
<v Speaker 1>Ockeram of Time and the majority of mass remasters for
<v Speaker 1>three D s like they are practiced at making Zelda
<v Speaker 1>games that have already been made. Again, just this, this
<v Speaker 1>is me and making an assumption. I actually they did
<v Speaker 1>not share the developer. I don't know who is developing it,
<v Speaker 1>but it's they did links Awakening remake and it's the
<v Speaker 1>links Awakening art style, so I think it's them. And
<v Speaker 1>then like, yeah, which raises the question someone asked me
<v Speaker 1>to see where was it a chain whipping on? Discord said, hey,
<v Speaker 1>let's talk about the new Zelda. What's your hype level
<v Speaker 1>on this? How do you feel about the links Awakening
<v Speaker 1>remake art style and how it may or may not
<v Speaker 1>fit in with that title as a sequel or the
<v Speaker 1>links Awakening timeline which is which is an interesting thought.
<v Speaker 1>I'm always I'm always a little hesitant to dive deep
<v Speaker 1>on like timeline Zelda timeline stuff before actually playing the game,
<v Speaker 1>because people get really excited and they have a lot
<v Speaker 1>of predictions. And then usually Zelda games are pretty singular,
<v Speaker 1>like you know, they they really usually stand alone and
<v Speaker 1>have some ties to the broader lore. So in that sense,
<v Speaker 1>I don't think it's a links Awakening scene.
<v Speaker 2>So, but I've mean seen speculation on on the Twitter. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>and it seems people are picking out that this high
<v Speaker 2>rule might be related to a link to the past.
<v Speaker 1>Which isn't surprising.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, Okay, so like somebody picked out like a screenshot
<v Speaker 2>of like Zelda standing over a cliff. I can send
<v Speaker 2>this to you guys at some point, but like the
<v Speaker 2>layout matches the general layout of a link to the
<v Speaker 2>past's high rule.
<v Speaker 1>Which could be also you could write, like even take
<v Speaker 1>that further to a link between worlds, right, because a
<v Speaker 1>linkedeen worlds is a is a link to the past
<v Speaker 1>equal and like. And that was actually when it started.
<v Speaker 1>I think in our chat we were like link between
<v Speaker 1>worlds on switch finally yeah, and then we were kind
<v Speaker 1>of like, oh no, no, this is this is this is
<v Speaker 1>the link's awakening art style. And my first thought was
<v Speaker 1>like Oracle in Ages remake. But I was like, this
<v Speaker 1>doesn't look familiar, and it did not take long for
<v Speaker 1>us to be like, oh no, no, this is this
<v Speaker 1>is new, this is one hundred percent new whatever this is.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. So I just I just sent you both the comparison.
<v Speaker 2>If you want to check that out, can see that
<v Speaker 2>there is like somebody did, like a comparison of like
<v Speaker 2>the layout, yeah, yeah, of like the links the link
<v Speaker 2>to the past map, and like the vista that Zelda
<v Speaker 2>had when she kind of stood on that cliff side.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah.
<v Speaker 4>I mean, I was also gonna point out the hood
<v Speaker 4>link wears at the start is like the Highlian hood
<v Speaker 4>from the Tears of the Kingdom, Breath of the While,
<v Speaker 4>like it has that design from those games. So there's like, oh,
<v Speaker 4>the main thing I was excited to do this this podcast.
<v Speaker 4>I sent this image of Kyle already where there's a
<v Speaker 4>shot in that trailer where Zelda's standing in front of
<v Speaker 4>like the link to the past Zora's and then some
<v Speaker 4>like Okarata of time and on Zora, Like the Zors
<v Speaker 4>look different in the two D and three D games,
<v Speaker 4>but they're both like talking to each other in one
<v Speaker 4>of the shots of this trailer, And I was like, why,
<v Speaker 4>how what I know?
<v Speaker 3>What is that about?
<v Speaker 1>When you sent me that, Charles, I was very impressed.
<v Speaker 1>I was like, whoa, that is a good catch. That
<v Speaker 1>is a funk and Brian, I'll send you the image.
<v Speaker 1>But yeah, it's different ages, different designs of Zora talking
<v Speaker 1>to each other, which is very exciting and very weird.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, and so I'm I am wondering of like we've
<v Speaker 4>got that, we've got linked to the past, stuff, we've
<v Speaker 4>got connections to like Breath of the Wild. It is
<v Speaker 4>either some really crazy dimension hopping Zelda thing where they're
<v Speaker 4>taking stuff from all sorts of things, or it's just
<v Speaker 4>zeldering Zelda, where they just take stuff from all the
<v Speaker 4>different games and they don't actually explain it at all. Yeah,
<v Speaker 4>which I kind of feel like like I don't feel
<v Speaker 4>like they're interested in answering those questions generally speaking, but
<v Speaker 4>also like I kind of I don't really need to,
<v Speaker 4>so I probably won't. But if you know, like the
<v Speaker 4>ending of Links Awakening and the context that that game
<v Speaker 4>takes place in, it is interesting, like the concept of
<v Speaker 4>that even crossing over with other stuff, like it's kind
<v Speaker 4>of a contained experience. So I don't I don't see
<v Speaker 4>why that link couldn't be the link in this game necessarily.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, typically when they change links, they do change
<v Speaker 2>the art style. Like look at like Ocarina and Majar
<v Speaker 2>that's the same link. Same thing with Breath of the
<v Speaker 2>Wild and Tears the Kingdom it's when they go and
<v Speaker 2>same same thing for wind Waker and uh, Phantom Hourglass.
<v Speaker 2>You're right, yes, So it's like when they change protagonists,
<v Speaker 2>it's typically a different art style. So this very well
<v Speaker 2>could be the link from from Links Awakening.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean it certainly looks like it, so, but yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I mean, just very exciting that Zelda is a protagonist,
<v Speaker 1>and it's also like unique, right, It's not like they
<v Speaker 1>just gave Zelda a sword and we're like, well, now
<v Speaker 1>that you're just playing with a different skin in a
<v Speaker 1>Zelda game, you know, like she has her own unique
<v Speaker 1>abilities that like look closer to the current trajectory of
<v Speaker 1>Zelda in the sense that it's like more open ended
<v Speaker 1>and more creative. It's like it's like a two D
<v Speaker 1>version of Ultra Hand in a way, Like, yeah, I
<v Speaker 1>thought they're they're not similar, but like the idea is
<v Speaker 1>kind of similar. The emotions that will come up while
<v Speaker 1>you're like trying to, you know, just throw a bunch
<v Speaker 1>of stuff at a wall and see what happens. Seems
<v Speaker 1>like seems like the game is open to that. And
<v Speaker 1>I'm also glad that it's called the Legend of Zelda,
<v Speaker 1>because like this could have they could have called it.
<v Speaker 1>They could have really made it a spin off, right,
<v Speaker 1>like a very close spin off. But like they're like, no,
<v Speaker 1>this is the new Zelda. This is this is the
<v Speaker 1>next Zelda game, and you are finally playing as Zelda,
<v Speaker 1>which is which is wild, which is very exciting and
<v Speaker 1>cool and never would have predicted. I I had no
<v Speaker 1>optimism of seeing any Zelda whatsoever. During this stream, there's
<v Speaker 1>the you know, the Majora's mask Twilight Princess question. Uh
<v Speaker 1>that that lingers I'm sorry, Yeah, wind Waker Legend of
<v Speaker 1>Gamer one O two on Discord said, no questions about
<v Speaker 1>the d intended. Dirk just thoughts a lot of great announcements.
<v Speaker 1>I'm excited for the new Zelda and Metroid Prime four,
<v Speaker 1>which we will touch on soon. I just can't, for
<v Speaker 1>the life of me, figure out why win Waker and
<v Speaker 1>Twilight Princess aren't on Switch yet. Which is it is bizarre.
<v Speaker 2>Especially since there are even more Zelda games that were
<v Speaker 2>like announced a classic Zelda games, A Link to the
<v Speaker 2>Past Four Swords. The Game Boy Advance remake of A
<v Speaker 2>Link to the Past that also has the standalone Four
<v Speaker 2>Swords campaign is also coming to a Nintendo Switch Online
<v Speaker 2>expansion pack.
<v Speaker 1>Which is actually Little Kyle Trivia. The first way that
<v Speaker 1>I beat Link to the Past was that Game Boy
<v Speaker 1>Advance version. I had played it before, but the first
<v Speaker 1>time I beat it was playing the Game Boy Advance version.
<v Speaker 4>It's I just want to know something really weird. Yes,
<v Speaker 4>it has been more time has passed since win Waker
<v Speaker 4>HD and now than time had passed between win Waker
<v Speaker 4>and win Wakery. Oh man, it's been it's been eleven
<v Speaker 4>years since that game came out out, almost eleven years,
<v Speaker 4>and it was ten years between the original and the
<v Speaker 4>the HD version.
<v Speaker 3>It's oh boy.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>So I had a buddy shout out to win Front.
<v Speaker 1>Aaron was texting me, who's just always bummed that he
<v Speaker 1>can't play wind Wicker on his Switch, and was like,
<v Speaker 1>it's like Donkey Kong Country first, Like we're gonna get
<v Speaker 1>talking country. I mean, I love Donky kont Country. Nothing
<v Speaker 1>wrong with Donky Kret Country.
<v Speaker 2>By the way, I was hyped for that announcement. That
<v Speaker 2>is one that I've been wanting for a while because
<v Speaker 2>like donke Ykong Country. Tropical Freeze awesome, but like that
<v Speaker 2>was the first one, Like why wouldn't they put that
<v Speaker 2>one on before Tropical Freeze. I don't know. It's just
<v Speaker 2>very weird. And also like the we version had like
<v Speaker 2>shoehorned in motion controls. The three DS version removed that,
<v Speaker 2>but it's like less accessible right now. So it's like
<v Speaker 2>I just want like the best version on Switch, and
<v Speaker 2>this seems like it's adding a lot of the stuff
<v Speaker 2>from the three DS version as well. I'm hoping that
<v Speaker 2>also means we can play without motion controls, because remember,
<v Speaker 2>to play the WEI version, you turned the we remote sideways,
<v Speaker 2>but I believe you also had to, like if you
<v Speaker 2>wanted to roll, you had to shake the WE remote,
<v Speaker 2>so it was like the sideways like like controller scheme,
<v Speaker 2>and then also motion controls, which was really really jarring.
<v Speaker 1>I will say I remember not hating them. I think
<v Speaker 1>you could play with the nunchuck like and I remember
<v Speaker 1>finishing the levels and you could like do the shake
<v Speaker 1>to like, you know, punch the barrel or whatever. That
<v Speaker 1>was all right, but yeah, I mean I would rather Ultimately,
<v Speaker 1>I didn't hate them as much as some motion controls
<v Speaker 1>in some games, but uh yeah, I'm the thing was,
<v Speaker 1>it was like I'd given up on it because it's like, well,
<v Speaker 1>they have Tropical Freeze on switch, and if you ask Rare,
<v Speaker 1>they're gonna be like that's or I'm sorry, retro retro.
<v Speaker 1>They're gonna be like, well, yeah, the best Donkey Kong
<v Speaker 1>Country is on switch. What else do you want from us?
<v Speaker 1>You know? And it's like, well, we want the other
<v Speaker 1>one that's also really good. Yeah, any other Zelda thoughts
<v Speaker 1>before we move on to other stuff, because that was
<v Speaker 1>the big one.
<v Speaker 2>I think it looks cool. I was a little I mean,
<v Speaker 2>there was a brief moment where I was bummed that
<v Speaker 2>it wasn't a Link between Worlds because that's one of
<v Speaker 2>my all time favorite Zelda games. But I'm glad we're
<v Speaker 2>getting a new one because that's that's even better.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. I'll always take new and so I love remakes.
<v Speaker 1>I play Remax all the time, but I'll always be
<v Speaker 1>more excited for the next weird new thing. Yeah. Brian
<v Speaker 1>Charles kicked us off with Zelda. What do you want
<v Speaker 1>to talk about next?
<v Speaker 2>I mean, we talked about Don Kong Country returns already.
<v Speaker 2>I'm not a big Mario and Luigi fan, but outside
<v Speaker 2>of Metroid Prime for that, seems like the other big
<v Speaker 2>announcement was Mario and Luigi Brothership. So I'm gonna let
<v Speaker 2>you lead this conversation, Chanelle, because you've played the RPGs
<v Speaker 2>that Nintendo has put out. Yeah, but this one looks
<v Speaker 2>pretty cool. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Matt Storm, editor of this podcast, actually sent in a
<v Speaker 1>question for us. I never in a millionaires thought would
<v Speaker 1>get a new Marri and Luigi game. I'm so stoked.
<v Speaker 1>My question is what dormant Nintendo franchise would you love
<v Speaker 1>to see make a comeback, which I'll let you guys
<v Speaker 1>think on for a bit. But the thing, I like
<v Speaker 1>Mario and Luigi a lot. I think guy even said
<v Speaker 1>in my recent paper Mario thousand Year to Or Review
<v Speaker 1>that I do actually prefer the Mario and Luigi trajectory
<v Speaker 1>of Mariothliz. So I'm very excited for this. But the
<v Speaker 1>reason that I was so extra excited and surprised, and
<v Speaker 1>why the Nintendo director for me kicked off on such
<v Speaker 1>a high note, was because I was certain we would
<v Speaker 1>never get another Mario in Luigi game because the creator,
<v Speaker 1>the creators of the series of developer Alpha Dream went
<v Speaker 1>out of business in twenty nineteen. They were shut down.
<v Speaker 1>So I was like, well, I guess that's a wrap
<v Speaker 1>on Mario and Luigi. Like we're just never going to
<v Speaker 1>revisit that series. So this was like a huge surprise.
<v Speaker 1>And it looks cool, it looks good, it looks great.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know who's developing it. Maybe it's like a
<v Speaker 1>version of Alpha Dream come back to life. I'm not sure,
<v Speaker 1>but yeah, I like the art style. I was I
<v Speaker 1>was watching it, and I was like, how much Turn
<v Speaker 1>base are we getting in here? And over the course
<v Speaker 1>of the trailer it did become more and more apparent.
<v Speaker 1>That's like, oh, yeah, no, no, this is this is Margo Luigi,
<v Speaker 1>this is Turn Combat. So yeah, I'm I'm I'm excited
<v Speaker 1>for that one for sure. Yeah, absolutely, I'd like to
<v Speaker 1>check it out.
<v Speaker 2>Are the other Mario and Luigi games are only on
<v Speaker 2>three DS? Right? Not Switch?
<v Speaker 1>Yep, Game Boy Advance DS and three DS?
<v Speaker 4>Okay, but like the collection any is there is one
<v Speaker 4>on the Switch Online?
<v Speaker 3>Am I making that up? Oh?
<v Speaker 1>I think the original Mario Luigi is on Switch online
<v Speaker 1>or although I might be conflating it with the Ambassador
<v Speaker 1>program on three DS.
<v Speaker 2>Which is I can find the answer.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, But yeah, they remade. They released them all on
<v Speaker 1>GBA DS and three DS, and then they remade the
<v Speaker 1>first two for three DS, and those were I don't know,
<v Speaker 1>they seem to underwhelm my. I guess they weren't blockbusters
<v Speaker 1>in terms of sales.
<v Speaker 2>So Mario and luigis Superstar Saga on Game Boy Advance
<v Speaker 2>is on Switch online if you have the expansion pack.
<v Speaker 1>Hell yeah, yeah, I mean the other the big one
<v Speaker 1>which I thought you were going to jump to, Brian
<v Speaker 1>was a Metroid Prime for like, that was another one
<v Speaker 1>that I was like, well, I'm excited for Metroid Prime,
<v Speaker 1>but we're not We're not going to see any of
<v Speaker 1>that today. I just I just always assume we're never
<v Speaker 1>gonna see Zelda, We're never gonna see Metroid and I
<v Speaker 1>live a very uh fulfilling life that way.
<v Speaker 2>Which, by the way, looking at the reason I went
<v Speaker 2>to Brothership, which is a very strange word to Sun.
<v Speaker 2>So here's the order in which Nintendo sent out a like, hey,
<v Speaker 2>here's everything we announced, and the Nintendo direct goes Legend
<v Speaker 2>Zelda echoes a wisdom, Okay, Mario Luigi Brothership, all right,
<v Speaker 2>I get that. That's, you know, Mario Flagship Character, Dragon
<v Speaker 2>Quest three HD two D remake, Super Mario Party Jamboree.
<v Speaker 2>All right, still still kind of tracks, Donkeykong Country Returns HD,
<v Speaker 2>Lego Horizon's Adventure, Just Dance twenty twenty five edition, and
<v Speaker 2>then Metroid Prime four Beyond.
<v Speaker 4>Well, I mean they say the last right, No, it's no,
<v Speaker 4>it's like it's that, and then all the other games, yeah,
<v Speaker 4>and then it goes right into Nintendo sixty four, Interno
<v Speaker 4>Switch Online, Hello, Kitty Island Adventures, Stray.
<v Speaker 2>It's like, why did they bury Metroid Prime four like
<v Speaker 2>after Just Dance twenty twenty five edition.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's not alphabetical, No, that is that is.
<v Speaker 2>Really yeah, because fun Confusion is like four.
<v Speaker 1>Entries later, Okay, but yeah, Metroid Prime four Beyond it's
<v Speaker 1>called now. I was very excited to see it was
<v Speaker 1>funny when Zelda premiered it went on on the twenty
<v Speaker 1>minute mark, I was like that was that? Wasn't there
<v Speaker 1>one last thing? Like I was like, what are we
<v Speaker 1>going to have at the end here? And like so
<v Speaker 1>I had high hopes for it and Metroid Prime four
<v Speaker 1>I was like, oh my god, finally it was. It
<v Speaker 1>was really nice to see gameplay. This sounds like a
<v Speaker 1>knock against it, but it's really not. It's like it
<v Speaker 1>it looks like Metroid Prime, which I don't know what
<v Speaker 1>I expected, but it looks like it looks like Metroid Prime,
<v Speaker 1>which is great.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I liked the little teas of the enemy, which I
<v Speaker 1>guess the Internet has pointed out looks kind of like
<v Speaker 1>a character from Metroid Prime Hunters, which is kind of funky,
<v Speaker 1>which is like that that DS game, and uh yeah,
<v Speaker 1>it looks great. I liked at the end they showed
<v Speaker 1>that weird that more tropical area that looked really cool
<v Speaker 1>and alien, and I just I'm very happy to see it.
<v Speaker 1>I'm happy it's on the way. I thought I was
<v Speaker 1>onto something as we were watching the stream, and I
<v Speaker 1>even brought it up in our chat where I was like,
<v Speaker 1>you know, they didn't say switch, they didn't say coming
<v Speaker 1>to Switch, and you know what, they didn't have the
<v Speaker 1>little snap you know, intro before the game started. I
<v Speaker 1>was like, I'm thinking this, they might have just you know,
<v Speaker 1>glomar response to this thing, and like kind of not
<v Speaker 1>outright confirmed a switch to game. But then I like
<v Speaker 1>went and looked at the trailer on the YouTube channel
<v Speaker 1>and it was like Metroit Prime four Beyond coming to
<v Speaker 1>Switch in twenty twenty five and it has the snap
<v Speaker 1>intro and everything. I was like, Okay, wait, never mind,
<v Speaker 1>I don't know what I'm talking about.
<v Speaker 2>The sole detail that is given for Metroit Prime four
<v Speaker 2>Beyond in the press release is coming to Nintendo Switch
<v Speaker 2>in twenty twenty five.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. Yeah, Although I say, I do think that that
<v Speaker 1>game absolutely has the potential to be like a cross
<v Speaker 1>platform Oh definitely like Twilight Princess Breath of the Wild style,
<v Speaker 1>like we'll we'll have it on Switch Fault switch to
<v Speaker 1>for lack of a better name, in the moment first,
<v Speaker 1>and then like two weeks later you can go buy
<v Speaker 1>the old Switch version and it won't look quite as
<v Speaker 1>good and you'll be mad that they didn't take advantage
<v Speaker 1>of the game pad at all. But yeah, I Metroid
<v Speaker 1>Prime four very exciting. I love Metroid Prime. I actually
<v Speaker 1>have never I was I'm still I still want two
<v Speaker 1>to come to Switch because I I've played one in three,
<v Speaker 1>but I never beat two. I never really played two,
<v Speaker 1>so I would love to have excuse to play two
<v Speaker 1>before four comes out.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, if they're gonna do that, they might as
<v Speaker 2>well put two n three.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, no, three, I would love to play three. I
<v Speaker 1>would love to play three with joy cons with motion
<v Speaker 1>controls honestly because it got the job done on we
<v Speaker 1>I actually quite like Metroid Prime three with with motion controls.
<v Speaker 1>I think it's I think it's like one of the
<v Speaker 1>better uses of it. But the joy cons work even better.
<v Speaker 1>So like I would, I would, I would totally, I wouldn't.
<v Speaker 1>It's one of those like Skyward Sword where I would
<v Speaker 1>I would have a couple sessions where I would try
<v Speaker 1>it with the motion controls, but it's like I would
<v Speaker 1>just like to have the option, you know.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, It's not like one of those like Skyward Sword
<v Speaker 2>things like AGL Newman told me it was close to
<v Speaker 2>impossible to do a motion control less version of Skyward
<v Speaker 2>Sword and then did it two years later.
<v Speaker 1>Right, He's like, actually we figured it out. It was
<v Speaker 1>the it was what everyone said we could do since
<v Speaker 1>the game came out.
<v Speaker 4>What what is the general and this is I've never
<v Speaker 4>actually looked at this before. What was the like critical
<v Speaker 4>reception the Metroid Prime Hunters?
<v Speaker 3>What if people think of that mid ly?
<v Speaker 1>Not not bad, but like it was kind of one
<v Speaker 1>of those things where it's like, yeah, this is okay,
<v Speaker 1>and this is maybe Brian's looking up more specifics, but
<v Speaker 1>I remember I didn't plate, which to me is like
<v Speaker 1>if it was if it had been, if there was
<v Speaker 1>a lot of really good reviews for it, I would
<v Speaker 1>have made time for it. But the fact that everyone
<v Speaker 1>was like, yeah, this is like a function FPS on
<v Speaker 1>on DS that is really more of like a multiplayer
<v Speaker 1>game than like a proper video than a proper like
<v Speaker 1>single player Metroid game, you know, it's like it just
<v Speaker 1>didn't really connect.
<v Speaker 2>So it's an eighty five on Metacritic, which is a
<v Speaker 2>very good score higher than that, and an eight point
<v Speaker 2>five in Game Informer, so right in line with the Metacritic.
<v Speaker 2>While the single player adventure falls just shy of the
<v Speaker 2>grandeur of some Metroid games, the new multiplayer game positively
<v Speaker 2>electrified the experience.
<v Speaker 4>So I ask because this was one of like three
<v Speaker 4>games of back when DS download play was a thing
<v Speaker 4>you could just do multiplayer with whoever had the core game.
<v Speaker 4>So this was the thing that like I have memories
<v Speaker 4>of being at like a summer camp and like one
<v Speaker 4>kid had Metroid Prime Hunters, and we would all play
<v Speaker 4>on DS download Play, and we're all terrible and we
<v Speaker 4>didn't actually understand how the game worked at all, And
<v Speaker 4>I'd be so curious to go back to it now
<v Speaker 4>because I like only remember playing also DS download the player.
<v Speaker 4>It's like all these other people could play, but they
<v Speaker 4>had like limited access to the game, so I think
<v Speaker 4>we could only play as like one of the characters, right,
<v Speaker 4>But yeah, I was thinking about DS download play the
<v Speaker 4>other day and like I missed that. But metroy Prime
<v Speaker 4>made me think a bet Youro Prive Hunters made me think.
<v Speaker 3>Of I they should bring it.
<v Speaker 1>Back, would be perfectly fine, And then this is probably
<v Speaker 1>gonna be the case. But like I don't need any
<v Speaker 1>kind of multiplayer and Metroid Prime like they don't need
<v Speaker 1>Oh no, any we don't waste your time on that.
<v Speaker 4>It's fine, No, no, Just get Metro Prime Hunters for
<v Speaker 4>DS and then seven of your closest friends can play
<v Speaker 4>with you. But don't tell them to get the game right,
<v Speaker 4>Just get a DS.
<v Speaker 1>Can You can probably do that kind of there's probably
<v Speaker 1>some multiplayer games on switch right where you can like
<v Speaker 1>send you probably have to go to the shop to
<v Speaker 1>download a demo or something.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I think that there's a way that you have
<v Speaker 2>to like download like basically like a shell of the software,
<v Speaker 2>and then that enables you to join the multiplayer sessions.
<v Speaker 2>I forget what games do that, but I'm pretty sure
<v Speaker 2>there have been a few.
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, it's more likely now that it's just like if
<v Speaker 4>they want everyone to play it, they'll just make it.
<v Speaker 3>Free to play.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, yeah, probably.
<v Speaker 3>Which wasn't a thing in the DS era.
<v Speaker 1>But I'm gonna I'm gonna like sort of do a
<v Speaker 1>rapid fire on some of these things. But yeah, I mean,
<v Speaker 1>if you guys have anything you're excited to talk about, like, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>please shout it out.
<v Speaker 3>I did. I did also want to answer Matt's question.
<v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, if you haven't yeah to recamp. Matt's question,
<v Speaker 1>which I personally don't really have a big great answer for,
<v Speaker 1>is like what uh what Nintentdal franchise would you like
<v Speaker 1>to see make a surprise comeback or any comeback?
<v Speaker 3>Really?
<v Speaker 4>Yeah, go ahead, Charles, I mean my go to I
<v Speaker 4>want more. I I feel like I've talked about this before.
<v Speaker 4>I just really like Kitddigerus Uprising on three DS, and
<v Speaker 4>if it got I got ported the Switch or we
<v Speaker 4>got like a sequel on Switch or any any adaptation
<v Speaker 4>of those characters and that rough gameplay on like a
<v Speaker 4>modern console, I would die for.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I would love a port for that on Switch. I
<v Speaker 1>never I've played it for like thirty minutes on three
<v Speaker 1>DS and it was like, you know, it has the
<v Speaker 1>weird controls and all that stuff. But yeah, that and
<v Speaker 1>star Fox are like the two that I was like, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>let's let's bring those over to Spech.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I have like a sort of a more contemporary version
<v Speaker 1>of it that we can revisit with new eyes in
<v Speaker 1>twenty twenty four.
<v Speaker 2>You know, it's been ten years, just ten years enough
<v Speaker 2>to be like a dormant franchise. Yeah, so Mario Kart,
<v Speaker 2>we need a new Mario. That's funny, but no, I
<v Speaker 2>was gonna say, like it's it's bewildering to me that,
<v Speaker 2>like for how genius Nintendo is at like designing amazing
<v Speaker 2>experiences and like just putting out like hit after hit
<v Speaker 2>and banger after banger, that they can't crack the Star
<v Speaker 2>Fox code. Like yeah, ever since like Nintendo sixty four,
<v Speaker 2>they have not been able to figure out like a
<v Speaker 2>good in house Star Fox game.
<v Speaker 1>And I always like Leo Vader's joke of just Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>being like what do we do with Starfox?
<v Speaker 2>Like the Starfucks Assault had some some good parts of it,
<v Speaker 2>and like but that wasn't developed by Nintendo. Wasn't that
<v Speaker 2>bandy Namco that did that?
<v Speaker 1>I believe? So yeah, so like great first level and
<v Speaker 1>then it falls off pretty yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, that was kind of my experience. I was like, Oh,
<v Speaker 2>this is it. They finally did it, They finally made
<v Speaker 2>the Star Fox game. Oh never mind, and then like
<v Speaker 2>Starfox Zero. I wanted to love so much on we
<v Speaker 2>U and it just womp.
<v Speaker 1>And then yeah, Command, I don't know if you guys
<v Speaker 1>ever played Command. Yeah, it was like kind of a
<v Speaker 1>weird approach, but it kind.
<v Speaker 2>Of didn't you have to like use the touch screen
<v Speaker 2>to like steer your r wing.
<v Speaker 1>No, it was like a strategy game. Like you you
<v Speaker 1>weren't even really doing any action. You were like mapping
<v Speaker 1>out paths for your R wing on the on the
<v Speaker 1>lower screen. From a strategic perspective, it was it's like
<v Speaker 1>a it's like a weird side tangent in Star Fucks
<v Speaker 1>that's kind of forgotten. That was actually pretty solid, but
<v Speaker 1>you know, just addresses your point completely, Brian. And then
<v Speaker 1>they're like, we don't really know what to do with
<v Speaker 1>Star Fucks, Like we kind of have this cool sci fi,
<v Speaker 1>weird anthropomorphic animal world and spaceships, which is like would
<v Speaker 1>be a great anime, but like I'm not really sure
<v Speaker 1>because I just I think I think from a design perspective,
<v Speaker 1>they're just like we're just like going on track, like
<v Speaker 1>what are we doing here? You know, it's like, well
<v Speaker 1>they did different with this.
<v Speaker 2>There was a story that came out. I want to
<v Speaker 2>say about a year a year and a half ago
<v Speaker 2>from Retro Studios. Like a former art director at Retro
<v Speaker 2>Studios who put out a like he was like, hey,
<v Speaker 2>I had this pitch back when I worked at Retro
<v Speaker 2>and it was shot down. But like basically, like you
<v Speaker 2>were playing as star Fox as you were trying to
<v Speaker 2>rebuild the Lilac system after the war with Andros, and
<v Speaker 2>like you were going around taking mercenary jobs and then
<v Speaker 2>like at the end of each mission, you chose how
<v Speaker 2>much you like sent back from like how much of
<v Speaker 2>your like bounty you sent back to Cornaria for like
<v Speaker 2>rebuilding efforts, and how much you saved for yourself to
<v Speaker 2>like upgrade your equipment and everything. So it was kind
<v Speaker 2>of like that balancing act, and like you could fly
<v Speaker 2>anywhere and like take on jobs that you wanted to
<v Speaker 2>kind of like you know, however you wanted to. So
<v Speaker 2>it was kind of more open ended than like the
<v Speaker 2>on rail shooting. But I think once you get were
<v Speaker 2>in the missions, a lot of them were the on rails,
<v Speaker 2>but like that sounded pretty cool, and Retro is a
<v Speaker 2>very good studio. I mean they're doing Metroid Prime four,
<v Speaker 2>they did the Donkey Kong Country returns games.
<v Speaker 1>So this is a retro Starfox of any kind? Sounds cool.
<v Speaker 1>There was that rumored racing game for a while that
<v Speaker 1>never surfaced. I bought Starlink Battle for Atlas specifically for
<v Speaker 1>the Starbox stuff, and I never played it for more
<v Speaker 1>than an hour. But like someday I lie to myself
<v Speaker 1>and say that I will sit down and play through that,
<v Speaker 1>because apparently that's like a decent Starbucks game. I've heard
<v Speaker 1>that sort of wedged in a different franchise or a
<v Speaker 1>single Is it a franchise if it's a single game,
<v Speaker 1>I don't know about that.
<v Speaker 2>But since we were talking about a couple of these
<v Speaker 2>franchises already, I did want to shout out I'm a
<v Speaker 2>big fan of when they bring like some of my
<v Speaker 2>favorite retro games to Nintendo Switch Online. Yeah, so we
<v Speaker 2>mentioned a link to the past four swords. Metroid Zero
<v Speaker 2>Mission one of my favorite Metroid games. They remake of
<v Speaker 2>the original nes Metroid, but with like all the modern
<v Speaker 2>conveniences that were put into Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion.
<v Speaker 2>That is, those are both on the Game Boy Advance Library.
<v Speaker 2>And then n sixty four added Perfect Dark and Turok
<v Speaker 2>Dinosaur Hunter yeah, under.
<v Speaker 1>It's one of those games. I wonder if you guys
<v Speaker 1>are on the same page. Maybe not you Trials because
<v Speaker 1>you're a little bitty baby. But that was one that
<v Speaker 1>I would rent often but never could get past like
<v Speaker 1>the second or third level, you know, And sometimes I
<v Speaker 1>would put codes in to see later parts of the game.
<v Speaker 1>But I want, I kind of want to like sit
<v Speaker 1>down and play through Tarak. I bet I could as
<v Speaker 1>an adult now and make some good progress.
<v Speaker 3>That's like a that's like a perfect replay game.
<v Speaker 1>It is, yes, yeah, but yeah, those are those are
<v Speaker 1>all cool announcements. Metroid zero Mission's fantastic game.
<v Speaker 2>Super Mario Party Jamboree. How about that one?
<v Speaker 3>How about it?
<v Speaker 4>How I wasn't I didn't I didn't go back and
<v Speaker 4>watch stuff. I think it was writing something when they
<v Speaker 4>were talking about that game. Can you give me the rundown?
<v Speaker 2>Well, it's it seems like it's a successor to Super
<v Speaker 2>Mario Party, which is one of the top selling games
<v Speaker 2>on Switch, but also the lesser of the two Mario
<v Speaker 2>Party games on Switch. Hopefully they learned some of the
<v Speaker 2>lessons because that was the one that you had to
<v Speaker 2>use the individual joy cons. You couldn't just like play
<v Speaker 2>with a pro controller, which was a little frustrating, and
<v Speaker 2>like some of the some of the structural stuff was
<v Speaker 2>kind of hit or miss, but it sold very well.
<v Speaker 2>But yeah, it looks like there's like one hundred and
<v Speaker 2>ten minigames online multiplayer. I guess like up to twenty
<v Speaker 2>people can play online together. I think it's like minigame stuff.
<v Speaker 2>But yeah, I mean it seems like another Mario Party game,
<v Speaker 2>and like they've also like credit to Nintendo, they do
<v Speaker 2>seem to have figured out Mario Party after like I
<v Speaker 2>want to say, like six through ten was like kind
<v Speaker 2>of rough, like they were like experimenting a lot with
<v Speaker 2>like oh, what if everybody was just in the same
<v Speaker 2>car driving in like the like everybody rolled the same number.
<v Speaker 2>That just didn't work for the formula. It didn't didn't
<v Speaker 2>play out properly. So it's good to see Nintendo kind
<v Speaker 2>of going back to that and hopefully figuring it out
<v Speaker 2>in like a way that doesn't rely too heavily on
<v Speaker 2>gimmicks but also does what all Mario Party games do
<v Speaker 2>and like provide a lot of gimmicks.
<v Speaker 1>And make you upset for various reasons that feel unfair.
<v Speaker 1>Is in the moment.
<v Speaker 4>Is there something a Mario Party game could announce that
<v Speaker 4>would make either of you guys like actively excited, like
<v Speaker 4>so hyped, like over the move this Mario Party implement.
<v Speaker 1>Here's what it would be for me if if they
<v Speaker 1>were like, this is Super Mario Odyssey too, and the
<v Speaker 1>name of the game happens to be Mario part That's
<v Speaker 1>what would get me excited about Mario Party.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, I like most Mario Party games. I grew
<v Speaker 2>up playing the N sixty four ones. I kind of
<v Speaker 2>fell off a little bit once GameCube arrived in terms
<v Speaker 2>of like the Mario Party franchise, but then I've gotten
<v Speaker 2>back into them through like the Wii and We You releases,
<v Speaker 2>and I think both Switch releases are pretty solid. It's
<v Speaker 2>just that I think Mario Party Superstars, just like the
<v Speaker 2>Greatest Hits compilation, is better just by virtue of the
<v Speaker 2>fact that it's a it's a Greatest Hits album. Of course,
<v Speaker 2>like no bands like individual album is going to typically
<v Speaker 2>I mean, unless like you, you're like diving deep and
<v Speaker 2>like you know, you really love like this one album
<v Speaker 2>from start to finish. It's like it's hard to stand
<v Speaker 2>up to a Greatest Hits album.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I actually do. I feel like I'm being really negative,
<v Speaker 1>but like I have a good time with Mario party
<v Speaker 1>with a group of people, but it's just it's never
<v Speaker 1>a destination franchise for me. In fact, ev Brian, when
<v Speaker 1>that review comes through, I'll be I'll be busy that day.
<v Speaker 2>Well yeah, I'm sure you will be because it comes
<v Speaker 2>out in October, so everybody's gonna be.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. I before we started, I wanted to touch on
<v Speaker 1>let me look up the name Metal Slug Attack Reloaded,
<v Speaker 1>which is not Metal Slug Tactics. This is a different
<v Speaker 1>Metal slug game that is also not an action game
<v Speaker 1>and is also kind of tactical. But isn't Metal Slug Tactics.
<v Speaker 1>Just to be perfectly clear, it is. It is like
<v Speaker 1>the only one of the few like Summer Gamefest Zone
<v Speaker 1>Shadow drops, right, Brian, Like there weren't many like out
<v Speaker 1>now announcements.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, so this was actually and I didn't realize this.
<v Speaker 2>This was a mobile game that came out in twenty
<v Speaker 2>sixteen for Android and iOS and it's a sequel to
<v Speaker 2>Metal Slug Defense. This is Metal Slug Attack and yeah
<v Speaker 2>it's now.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I'm embarrassed. I had no idea that that was
<v Speaker 1>its history. You. I booted it up. I played it
<v Speaker 1>for about twenty five minutes, and I was having a
<v Speaker 1>good time. Like it is very uh, plants versus zombies.
<v Speaker 1>It is plants versus zombies metal slug, which is which
<v Speaker 1>is a high compliment.
<v Speaker 2>I do like Metal Slug.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I probably played the first like eight levels, so
<v Speaker 1>you know, feedback, grain of Salt all that, but like, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I just the sort of the motions of plants versus
<v Speaker 1>zombies where you have like a meter that's ticking up,
<v Speaker 1>and then you can spend it to like set stuff up,
<v Speaker 1>and then that meter ticks up more, and then maybe
<v Speaker 1>you get an upgrade that makes that meter go faster.
<v Speaker 1>Like that is what this game is, and that works
<v Speaker 1>really well with Metal Slugs. Very cool visual aesthetic. So
<v Speaker 1>I quite like what I played. I thought it was
<v Speaker 1>a lot of fun. If it is a part of
<v Speaker 1>a mobile game, I'm always a little scared of like
<v Speaker 1>micro transactiony stuff, even if it's been stripped for like
<v Speaker 1>the premium version of the game. It's like sometimes it
<v Speaker 1>lingers and it's still kind of annoying. It's like, well,
<v Speaker 1>obviously this was where I was supposed to hit a
<v Speaker 1>wall and be compelled to spend money on it. So
<v Speaker 1>hopefully it avoids those hurdles. But on a basic level,
<v Speaker 1>I quite like what I played. I was I was impressed.
<v Speaker 1>And speaking of playing things, Brian, you actually got to
<v Speaker 1>play Dragon Quest three, right, you got hands on with
<v Speaker 1>that at SGF, but couldn't talk about it until now.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, so they were like, you know, hold off on
<v Speaker 2>any kind of like mention of this game until a
<v Speaker 2>later day in June. They wouldn't tell us what day
<v Speaker 2>it was, and it was just like, oh, I wonder why.
<v Speaker 2>So I got to sit down for about forty five
<v Speaker 2>minutes with the game, and you know, this is chronologically
<v Speaker 2>the first entry in the dragon Quest I think it's
<v Speaker 2>called the Eldrick Trilogy, which is dragon Quest one, Dragon
<v Speaker 2>Quest two, and dragon Quest three, but this three actually
<v Speaker 2>takes place first chronologically, and then it goes one to
<v Speaker 2>two from what I understand. So at the tail end
<v Speaker 2>of the trailer, they also announced the Drag Request one
<v Speaker 2>and two HD two D remake are also coming, which
<v Speaker 2>they did not tell us, even though they kind of
<v Speaker 2>five they kind of heavily hinted that it was coming
<v Speaker 2>at the presentation, but they didn't outright say it, and
<v Speaker 2>then during the direct they did outright say it, so
<v Speaker 2>I got hands on with it. It looks absolutely gorgeous
<v Speaker 2>as all the like the HD two D games. I
<v Speaker 2>think like Octopath Traveler, Triangle Strategy, all those games always
<v Speaker 2>look fantastic. Tea ma Asano and Art Dink are the
<v Speaker 2>two developers on it. But you know they've they're adding
<v Speaker 2>a whole bunch of quality of life improvements. They're making
<v Speaker 2>it so you can speed up battles, which is very
<v Speaker 2>welcome because those battles are a little sluggish to get through,
<v Speaker 2>and then you can also set up auto battling, where
<v Speaker 2>like everybody will kind of take their turns autonomous of you,
<v Speaker 2>so it goes by even faster. Sure, there's also they
<v Speaker 2>something that I don't think they touched on in the
<v Speaker 2>Nintendo direct, but they are expanding on the narrative in
<v Speaker 2>collaboration with Ugi Hori, who is the creator of the series.
<v Speaker 2>So they're actually going to make it so that there's
<v Speaker 2>more narrative elements in this release than there was the original.
<v Speaker 3>Cool.
<v Speaker 2>But that said, I will I will say that it
<v Speaker 2>is absolutely a game that was created in the late eighties.
<v Speaker 2>It definitely feels okay, it definitely shows its age in
<v Speaker 2>like the gameplay systems, but they've updated it with enough
<v Speaker 2>quality of life stuff that maybe that won't bother you.
<v Speaker 2>But if you are sensitive to like that era of
<v Speaker 2>gameplay conventions, you might want to like maybe watch some
<v Speaker 2>some footage or something when the game comes out to
<v Speaker 2>see if it's like for you.
<v Speaker 1>What was three? What was Three's original platform?
<v Speaker 2>ANYS?
<v Speaker 1>It was ANYS, yes, okay, if it was Supernintendent.
<v Speaker 2>Though, no, no, it can't because it came out in
<v Speaker 2>any It's.
<v Speaker 1>Tough to go back to even with a full remake.
<v Speaker 2>It came out in eighty eight on in Japan, and
<v Speaker 2>then I guess it did come out on super fammycom
<v Speaker 2>in ninety six, but that was only in Japan, but
<v Speaker 2>it came out on nes in ninety two in the US.
<v Speaker 1>Because I do have affection for that sixteen bit era
<v Speaker 1>of RPGs specifically, but once you go to eight it's
<v Speaker 1>a little bit outside of my comfort zone. But I
<v Speaker 1>am I'm kind of enamored with this. I kind of
<v Speaker 1>want to give this one a shot. I've never played
<v Speaker 1>a Dragon Quest RPG, so I kind of want to
<v Speaker 1>play this one.
<v Speaker 2>The visuals don't look like an NES game in this remake,
<v Speaker 2>just because like they've done such a great job with
<v Speaker 2>that HD two D style, it's immediately appealing. I just
<v Speaker 2>some of the conventions that I encountered did feel fairly outdated.
<v Speaker 2>It's faithful while also updating it with like quality of
<v Speaker 2>life stuff. But it's also very faithful.
<v Speaker 1>Right, maybe to a fault.
<v Speaker 2>We'll see, Yeah, well we'll see how it actually turns out.
<v Speaker 2>But yeah, I've never really put any significant time into
<v Speaker 2>a dragon Quest RPG either. The most the most I
<v Speaker 2>played a dragon Quest game was dragon Quest Builders.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. I played a lot of builders and a lot
<v Speaker 1>of heroes the muso. I reviewed both the muso dragon Quest.
<v Speaker 2>I remember you doing that?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, and then Charles you review to spin off as well.
<v Speaker 4>I viewed dragon Quest Treasures was like my second second
<v Speaker 4>ever review. Yeah, and it's it's a it's a fine game.
<v Speaker 3>It's like dragon.
<v Speaker 1>Quest seven ish. I think, is where are you landing
<v Speaker 1>with that one?
<v Speaker 3>Something like that? It might have been high, it might
<v Speaker 3>have been a high six, Okay, I don't know. Yeah,
<v Speaker 3>that's all. That's the thing.
<v Speaker 4>I'm curious if I went back now, like as a
<v Speaker 4>more seasoned review or how I feel about it.
<v Speaker 1>I think we all read that review. I think it
<v Speaker 1>sounded like you know what you're doing there?
<v Speaker 3>I was, I was reasonable.
<v Speaker 4>I'm just do you ever do you guys ever have
<v Speaker 4>nostalgia for games you didn't like reviewing but spent a long.
<v Speaker 3>Time review Now?
<v Speaker 4>Sometimes I know sometimes I think about Dragon Christ Treasurers,
<v Speaker 4>and I'm like, I didn't really like the game at all,
<v Speaker 4>but like I just spent so much time with it.
<v Speaker 3>I was like, I wasn't era you're.
<v Speaker 1>Doing something, you know.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I have two more that I want to call out.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, we're not done either. Yeah. Please.
<v Speaker 2>The first one is Marvel Versus Capcom Fighting Collection Arcade Classics.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. I was actually about them. I was about to
<v Speaker 1>like throw that at you if you didn't bring it up.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. So yeah, I loved like all the crossover games
<v Speaker 2>in the the arcades, like X Men Versus Street Fighter,
<v Speaker 2>Marvel Versus Street Fighter, Marvel versus Capcom, mar versus Capcom two.
<v Speaker 2>Those are all included in this, as is X Men,
<v Speaker 2>Children of Atom or Children of the Atom Marvel Superheroes.
<v Speaker 2>That's at six, right, And then there's The Punisher, which
<v Speaker 2>is like a bonus game. It's like the side scrolling
<v Speaker 2>Beat them Up Punisher game, but the other ones are
<v Speaker 2>all fighting game. They have like online ranked, casual lobby play,
<v Speaker 2>and then there's also rollback net code. There's what they
<v Speaker 2>have like the in game museum. They have the in
<v Speaker 2>game jukebox, which is cool because those games have really
<v Speaker 2>great music.
<v Speaker 1>And yeah, but only had one song.
<v Speaker 2>It just has to take you.
<v Speaker 3>For a ride?
<v Speaker 1>How what?
<v Speaker 2>What? What?
<v Speaker 3>How did marvelfus Capcom two?
<v Speaker 4>That's like the game I know that people really like
<v Speaker 4>from this, Like, if I were to play this before
<v Speaker 4>this collection came out, would I've had to go way back?
<v Speaker 4>Or was there like a more modern version.
<v Speaker 2>It came out on Xbox three sixty and p S three,
<v Speaker 2>I believe. But has it was delisted like paid Yeah? Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>it was delisted pretty shortly after it came out, and
<v Speaker 2>it's been delisted at least for ten years now.
<v Speaker 1>It has a weird trajectory. I played it. I borrowed
<v Speaker 1>my Buddies Dreamcast. I'm not a big fighting game guy,
<v Speaker 1>but I played a ton of Marvelous Capcom too, because
<v Speaker 1>I brought my buddies Dreamcast. And then it did come
<v Speaker 1>out on PlayStation two. But it was one of those
<v Speaker 1>like games that was like really hard to find and
<v Speaker 1>it was like really expensive, like even if you would
<v Speaker 1>find it at a used game store, it would be
<v Speaker 1>like it would be way overpriced sev. Yeah, and and
<v Speaker 1>the three sixty version was like a big deal because
<v Speaker 1>it was like hard to find, and then it got delisted.
<v Speaker 1>So it's like always and then you can you can
<v Speaker 1>buy the stand up arcade unit now, but I imagine
<v Speaker 1>those are probably pretty limited and expensive.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I have the arcade one up cabinet like sitting like, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>ten feet away from me right now.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, So it's always It's always been a tough game,
<v Speaker 1>too fine, I think, generally speaking, but it's it is
<v Speaker 1>one of those I have a handful of fighting games
<v Speaker 1>that I love as a non fan, right like, like
<v Speaker 1>there's a couple of Deaderal I love Dead or Alive four.
<v Speaker 1>I like Smash Brothers and stuff. But yeah, that was
<v Speaker 1>another one that just happened to Crest for me where
<v Speaker 1>I played a ton of it. So I I'll totally
<v Speaker 1>dive into this just to just to revisit Marvers capcom
<v Speaker 1>two for sure.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. And the other one
<v Speaker 2>I wanted to call out was Fantasian, which so it's
<v Speaker 2>fantas Neo Dimension, which I started this on Apple Arcade,
<v Speaker 2>by the way, and it's very cool. I wish I
<v Speaker 2>would have played more, but it's just hard for me
<v Speaker 2>to justify playing like a long RPG on my phone,
<v Speaker 2>so I have Apple Arcade. I to be honest, I
<v Speaker 2>barely use it. I play like other games on my phone,
<v Speaker 2>but they're not Apple Arcade games. And then like, it's
<v Speaker 2>mostly just because it's included in like the Apple One
<v Speaker 2>membership that I have, which is like music and TV
<v Speaker 2>and workouts and everything. But I've wanted this game to
<v Speaker 2>come to console for the longest time. It's from the
<v Speaker 2>series creator of Final Fantasy here, Nobosakaguchi, and it also
<v Speaker 2>has the composer from the early Final Fantasy games, Nobu Uematsu,
<v Speaker 2>so it's very cool that they're still together working on stuff.
<v Speaker 2>They also work together on like Blue Dragon and Lost
<v Speaker 2>Odyssey on the Xbox three sixty. It's this same studio,
<v Speaker 2>so they are It's gotten very good reviews it people
<v Speaker 2>seem to have really loved it. I liked what I
<v Speaker 2>played of it. There's a cool quality of life thing
<v Speaker 2>that they did with the Apple Arcade version as well.
<v Speaker 2>And by the way, one thing that is important to
<v Speaker 2>note with both this and the Hello Kitty Island Adventure
<v Speaker 2>is there, Yes, they're both mobile games, but they are
<v Speaker 2>Apple Arcade mobile games, which means they by design do
<v Speaker 2>not have micro transactions or any kind of paid element
<v Speaker 2>to it once you buy the game.
<v Speaker 1>So that's genuinely I did want to shout out Hello
<v Speaker 1>Kitty before the episode because, like, my family really got
<v Speaker 1>into that game on Apple Arcade and really genuinely liked it.
<v Speaker 1>So I'm happy to see that it's coming to another
<v Speaker 1>clever it's the quick pitch is its animal crossing with
<v Speaker 1>Hello Kitty characters?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, and I mean it. It was very well liked
<v Speaker 2>last year and it got it won Apple Arcades like
<v Speaker 2>official Game of the Year award, Like that's how much
<v Speaker 2>like it was well liked by critics.
<v Speaker 1>It's parents gave it a Blue rib.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, but yeah, so both of those are coming to switch.
<v Speaker 2>And you know, Fantation I am very hyped for. I've
<v Speaker 2>wanted that to come to like a real like dedicated
<v Speaker 2>gaming platform for a long time. Now.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that's cool. The other again, there's like please shout
<v Speaker 1>on any others that stand out to you guys. But
<v Speaker 1>I wanted to talk to you Charles about Ace Attorney
<v Speaker 1>Investigations Collection. Have you played? I was going to bring
<v Speaker 1>this one of these games because the other one never
<v Speaker 1>came out of America. Right, did you play?
<v Speaker 3>No?
<v Speaker 4>So I have not, So I'm very excited too. So
<v Speaker 4>that honestly like dream come true.
<v Speaker 3>Ace Attorney.
<v Speaker 4>Like the last two or three years for me, I
<v Speaker 4>saw someone I think Hayes from.
<v Speaker 3>I think he writes for Inverse. It was tweeting like
<v Speaker 3>it's crazy.
<v Speaker 4>How Like five years ago it was like we were like, man,
<v Speaker 4>I hope one of these games gets translated one day.
<v Speaker 4>And now it's like, oh, if you have a switch,
<v Speaker 4>you can play every Ace Attorney game ever made.
<v Speaker 3>As of September, because they have.
<v Speaker 4>The original Phoenix Right trilogy. They just put all the
<v Speaker 4>apollog Justice games in a trilogy. They brought in the
<v Speaker 4>Great Astorney games over from Japan and now with Ace
<v Speaker 4>Attorney UH Investigations Collection. These were both DS games that
<v Speaker 4>starred Miles Edgeworth, who's the prosecutor.
<v Speaker 3>From the original games. It was like a bad guy
<v Speaker 3>turned reluctant ally.
<v Speaker 4>And now like these are his games, and it's like
<v Speaker 4>it plays completely different from what I understand.
<v Speaker 3>But I've never got my hands on one of them.
<v Speaker 4>I don't even know if, like I'd have to check,
<v Speaker 4>but like you can buy uh, like the Phoenix Right
<v Speaker 4>games before they got ported to like HD stuff on
<v Speaker 4>like consoles, they were on like the app store. So
<v Speaker 4>like I played Apollo Justice on my phone because I
<v Speaker 4>bought it on the Iowa's app store.
<v Speaker 1>Wait, but but these were not though, right.
<v Speaker 4>But I don't think these were. Yeah, I think these
<v Speaker 4>were always just out of reach for me. So I
<v Speaker 4>never played them. And the first one did come to
<v Speaker 4>the US, but the second one didn't. So that's like
<v Speaker 4>new for people. And one of the funniest things. I
<v Speaker 4>don't know if either of you guys are have been
<v Speaker 4>seeing this online or anything. Ace Turn Investigations too, is
<v Speaker 4>the one I'm particularly excited to play because when people
<v Speaker 4>rank up their series rank up the series, that one
<v Speaker 4>is often in people like if they've played it, it's
<v Speaker 4>in like their top three or four of like their
<v Speaker 4>favorite of all the East Jurney games, with.
<v Speaker 1>The second Miles Edgeworth that did come out in America.
<v Speaker 4>The one that didn't come out is really really high.
<v Speaker 4>The thing is, there's a very popular fan translation that
<v Speaker 4>people have played that they really really like. The funny
<v Speaker 4>thing though, is now that it's coming west, people are
<v Speaker 4>gonna be devastated because they came up with these fan names.
<v Speaker 4>Oh now, so people have been playing this game for
<v Speaker 4>years and years thinking these are I believe these characters
<v Speaker 4>had these names that they had created, and now it's
<v Speaker 4>coming out and it's like completely for it. There's one
<v Speaker 4>I think his name was, I'm gonna find I'm gonna
<v Speaker 4>find it real quick, I'll find it.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>No, that's that's funny.
<v Speaker 3>It's yes, I'm event for two seconds.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, my my. I joked earlier about how excited my
<v Speaker 1>wife was for this. I remember her playing them on
<v Speaker 1>DS back in the day. And the thing that struck
<v Speaker 1>me about the Miles games is like, you it's it's
<v Speaker 1>still a visual novel and you're still doing investigation and
<v Speaker 1>stuff like that, but you actually do control Miles, like
<v Speaker 1>walking around in like in a space, so it almost
<v Speaker 1>looks like like he's like a pixel character that you
<v Speaker 1>move around. So I was always kind of interested in
<v Speaker 1>them just because it's like, oh, I like that you
<v Speaker 1>actually control the character. It's not just like moving menus.
<v Speaker 3>You know.
<v Speaker 2>This character.
<v Speaker 4>He's a rival rookie prosecutor is named Sebastian Debest. There's
<v Speaker 4>all these all these things of him being like I
<v Speaker 4>am the best, and the best has been best did
<v Speaker 4>or something I don't know, just like that his new
<v Speaker 4>name is Eustace Winner, new names his official name.
<v Speaker 3>His real name is Eustace.
<v Speaker 1>Hard to beat, you know, the best.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Good.
<v Speaker 4>And they also like couldn't like they couldn't name him
<v Speaker 4>that because it's the fan version, like it would have.
<v Speaker 4>I I think it would have been like a weird like,
<v Speaker 4>you know, someone else came up with his name, even
<v Speaker 4>if you know organically, they were like, that would make
<v Speaker 4>more sense.
<v Speaker 3>So it is really funny.
<v Speaker 4>Of that's something I've enjoyed of seeing seeing the version,
<v Speaker 4>the idealized version fans had, going to this real version,
<v Speaker 4>and I am curious to see if people play and
<v Speaker 4>they're like, no, I like the fan version.
<v Speaker 1>Oh they almost certainly, Charles, I can tell you right
<v Speaker 1>now that they're gonna say they they will.
<v Speaker 3>That's great. I'm hyped.
<v Speaker 4>I gotta find I gotta find this fan version before
<v Speaker 4>it gets wiped from the internet.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's too bad you can't rename the characters like
<v Speaker 1>RPG style to just whatever. But that's cool. I'm always
<v Speaker 1>I'm always happy, especially like big franchises like that and
<v Speaker 1>we're running low on them, which is like a good
<v Speaker 1>thing of like, yeah, this this popular franchise that everyone likes.
<v Speaker 1>The one entry that didn't come out in America is
<v Speaker 1>like finally coming out, Like it's it's crazy it's taken
<v Speaker 1>this long, but uh yeah, hell yeah, let's do it. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I mean I recovered all the highlights. I mean, that
<v Speaker 1>wasn't everything. It was a really good show and I
<v Speaker 1>and it's partially because I think I went in with
<v Speaker 1>low expectations that made it all the better. But like,
<v Speaker 1>if you showed me a new Metro in a new Zelda,
<v Speaker 1>I'm gonna be pretty dang happy.
<v Speaker 4>So yeah, I'm this was This was like one of
<v Speaker 4>my one of my favorite Nintendo directs. I think it's
<v Speaker 4>because they were like, they're not gonna have any new
<v Speaker 4>console news. I was like, well, could you possibly have?
<v Speaker 4>And they're like, here's here's three great games coming this year.
<v Speaker 1>I was like, oh cool, I want to play great. Cool.
<v Speaker 1>Hopefully they're great. We will see I hope. So yeah,
<v Speaker 1>but I think that's good. This is the last chance
<v Speaker 1>if there's anything else you guys want to call out.
<v Speaker 1>I think that does it for the Game Informer show
<v Speaker 1>this week.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, I'm happy that, like other games from other
<v Speaker 2>platforms are coming to Switch, like Stray and Darkest Dungeon two.
<v Speaker 1>Well, our joke in the chat was like, well, congratulations
<v Speaker 1>to the worst looking version of Stray. Yeah, if we're
<v Speaker 1>gonna be honest, like, you know, great, it's a game.
<v Speaker 2>I like this.
<v Speaker 3>It's gonna sell lots of copy.
<v Speaker 2>Probably will.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that's a game that would do well on Switch.
<v Speaker 1>I just but it is like it's it's even in
<v Speaker 1>the trailers. It's like that's it's not a looker compared
<v Speaker 1>to the other versions.
<v Speaker 2>Darkest Dungeon two is probably a good fit for Switch.
<v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, No, Dark Dungeon looks that's a two D game,
<v Speaker 1>so that that totally fits. And yeah, Nintendo World Championship
<v Speaker 1>still looks cool. There's some new Funko Fusion stuff. There
<v Speaker 1>was one near the end here.
<v Speaker 3>What was it?
<v Speaker 1>Oh, the new Den pum Man looks very strange. I
<v Speaker 1>don't even know what to expect from that thing.
<v Speaker 2>They're adding Basketball to Nintendo Switch Sports, which.
<v Speaker 1>Right, that's kind of cool. Why not bar Me farmgi
<v Speaker 1>Farmigia Mesias. It was like a Pokemon inspired farming sim
<v Speaker 1>you know, could be cool.
<v Speaker 2>Uh, Disney Illusion Islands getting a new update.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, it's it's out. Yeah, fairy Tale Too is coming
<v Speaker 3>out to day.
<v Speaker 1>It was No, fairy Tale is a is an anime
<v Speaker 1>that's quite good that has had one video game adaptation
<v Speaker 1>that was okay, and this will probably be another video
<v Speaker 1>game adaptation that's okay. Uh.
<v Speaker 2>Neo Memories in Orbit looked very cool. I don't know
<v Speaker 2>anything about it, but it looked neat. It looked very pretty. Also,
<v Speaker 2>Rest in Peace. Any hope for Hollow Night Silk Song?
<v Speaker 1>They kind of canceled it. That's this this summer confirmed,
<v Speaker 1>Like I.
<v Speaker 2>Don't know, Like I assumed that it would have shown
<v Speaker 2>up at one on Like we were like, okay, maybe
<v Speaker 2>it'll show up at Summer Game Fest thing. No it didn't.
<v Speaker 2>But there's always the Xbox Showcase in a couple of days. Nope,
<v Speaker 2>not there all right, but the Nintendo Direct for sure.
<v Speaker 1>And then yeah, I mean, Brian, we even had a
<v Speaker 1>discussion that I brought to you as mister reviews where
<v Speaker 1>I was like, we should probably like like plan on
<v Speaker 1>maybe that game shadow dropping like with that would to
<v Speaker 1>be clear with no insider information, Yeah, just being like
<v Speaker 1>it feels like it could happen, so let's assume that
<v Speaker 1>someone will need to jump on that if it if
<v Speaker 1>it releases and it no, Yeah, we didn't hear anything.
<v Speaker 2>And as a result, we're not at all.
<v Speaker 3>Right.
<v Speaker 4>Silk Song is also like because we got like a
<v Speaker 4>gameplay trailer in like twenty twenty two, right, so it
<v Speaker 4>was a thing of that game felt real and it
<v Speaker 4>felt like it was right there, and then like we
<v Speaker 4>never heard from again. Metroid Prime four was just a logo.
<v Speaker 4>Like I really wasn't expecting to see that because I
<v Speaker 4>was like not even convinced that game was real in
<v Speaker 4>a way that I was like, well, I know, like
<v Speaker 4>someone who's playing Silk Song in that trailer, I've never
<v Speaker 4>seen like a screenshot of metroy Yeah. So the fact
<v Speaker 4>that they had it and it was like ready to go,
<v Speaker 4>it was like, Okay, this is like.
<v Speaker 3>They're actually doing this one.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I have no idea what which By the way,
<v Speaker 2>if you if you saw the Metroid Prime four trailer
<v Speaker 2>and you never played Metroid Prime. The remastered version on
<v Speaker 2>Switch is fantastic. Very much recommend you. They did a
<v Speaker 2>lot of like modernizing of the controls and like made
<v Speaker 2>the texture so much more detailed. I very much recommend.
<v Speaker 2>I think I gave it a nine point five. It's
<v Speaker 2>like tied from my high score at game and fow,
<v Speaker 2>so like, yeah, go check out the Metroid Prime Remastered
<v Speaker 2>on Switch if you if like you've never played a
<v Speaker 2>Metroid Prime game and four looked cool to you, then
<v Speaker 2>you'll probably want to check out remastered.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, you should play like it. It's great, one of the.
<v Speaker 2>Greatest, one of the greatest Metroid games. Really.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I look, we don't need to get into blasphemous takes,
<v Speaker 1>but I think I would put Dread above it personally.
<v Speaker 2>But would you say top three? Would you say top four?
<v Speaker 1>Top three?
<v Speaker 2>So like Super Metroid Dread and then Prime.
<v Speaker 1>Probably yeah, I think I just I think I'm always
<v Speaker 1>gonna prefer the two d But yeah, Primes fantastic. I've
<v Speaker 1>had a great time.
<v Speaker 2>Like I said earlier, I'm a big fan of Zero Mission.
<v Speaker 2>I actually have never played Fusion, which is wild to me,
<v Speaker 2>and it's on Switch online, so I kind of want
<v Speaker 2>to check.
<v Speaker 1>That very good. I think I like Fusion more than
<v Speaker 1>zero mission. Okay, this is important. We need to figure
<v Speaker 1>this out.
