Ladies and gentlemen, you're listening to the bomb Cast. You did you didn't use that one, did you? Ladies and gentlemen not didn't use that one? Okay, I used them. I took it straight. Okay, ladies and gentlemen, you're listening to the bomb Cast. This is a place where we talk about video games. Today's Tuesday, October twenty two. Today I'm here. I'm drawing, ladies and gentlemen. Today is Tuesday. At the twenty second. You're listening to the Giant bomb Cast. Whether I'm your personal listening device at home in the car. I'm joined by Drew Scanlon's and Brad Chumaker. Finny, It's wonderful to be here, Tony. What we are talking a little bit about video games. We're gonna get cut off deep. Some stuff might be uncomfortable, and I feel like, in the interest of openness year, we're not going to edit out any of the language. I want a frank discussion about video games. So, Drew, you're first, you had a story. If you have children listening now, I might not be the best time for them to bring him in the room. This is stuff, Okay, this is stuff. Everybody's gotta here. You've got to get real at something. They got it. They gotta grow up sometime. These your trouble time and kids grew up real fast. Drew, how's it going? How's it going? Really really good? How Jeff Gersmon is out on a sign and Jeff Gersman's out on consignment. You've got money pitched in now we can buy Jeff back. Yeah. I think we dropped him off with the Goodwill on the hate Street. Yeah. Man, prices they're tough. That's the same one where I leave my shoes. They might have might have him out on the shelf by now. He's down. He's in special town, playing special stuff. But we've got a hell of a show today. It's gonna be fantastic. And I'm not concerned at all for a lack of content. Yea, So Drew kicking off? All right? What you do to this weekend? Man? Do you hang glade? You Paris slide? Did you pony ride? Did you rip the tide your astroglot? Wait a minute. Powered I went from wrestle. I was looking for them to do over the top. I was looking for something to do, and I figured I want to light something on fire. Okay, this is this is a good start. So I went back into my archives and I found he's like your paper archives is like your old taxes from two thousand and six. Instead it's light these on fire. It's more like a like an Alexandria Alexandried. I was looking at my North Korea photos. Okay, uh they're digital lit your phone? You the way I gonna get rid of this, and uh there's there's one where most of the picture is fire. And I thought, okay, how can I bring this into my life again? It was of we were in the city of Nampo, and before dinner, they brought us out to uh the side of the building outside and there was a concrete slab on the ground, and arranged on the slab were clams. I remember this from the sea. I remember this. And a guy with a plastic bottle with holes poked in the top squirted liquid all over the clams and then lit them on fire. Uh, and my our guide said, oh yeah, this is a North Korean delicacy. Is there a gasoline clamp? So we ate gasoline clams that night? Well, you cook them, the gasoline gets lit on fire, so they're cooked gasoline clams oh yeah, totally safe. Sounds safe to me. So I figured I'm gonna try that this weekend in the apartment. And outside my apartment, I have a shared deck, okay with whom made out of wood. H yep, wooden deck like those turkey fryar accidents start, yeah, right, except with much more flammable material. So I decided not to use gasoline call me yeah, call me a whimp. But instead I opted for ever Clear, which is one hundred and fifty one proof. It is ninety or no seventy five point five percent alcohol. Yes, I thought ever Clear it was like ninety percent or something almost clear. It's one fifty one Wow. Okay, the one I bought. And on buying something that you are ostensibly going to ingest and seeing the label on it that says warning extremely flammable, Uh is always fun. Sure. So normally you dump a bottle of ever Clear into like a bathtub full of kool aid or something. You know, your right, You could try that Country Time lemonade or your butt. Yeah, you put it in your turkey baster and uh and have a wild time. Okay, we're gonna say that it smells like rubbing alcohol man like I took a little bit in a shot glass, and it made me think of the doctor's office. Wait, the swabs just a little bit, just a little bit, yeah uh, And it like immediately made the outside of my arm hurt because I have this Pavlovian response to that smell where it's the swab smell you get right before you get an injection. So I got really scared. But it'll it'll miss you up for sure. And what happened when you poured it on these Yeah? So I bought these clams, they got wasted and started dude body shots off each other. I didn't know. I haven't done a lot of clam cooking. But there's still alive when you buy them. Yeah, well they're still alive. If they're dead, then don't eat them, right. Uh, they're still alive when you light them on fire too. I don't know, man, they made them meat? Are they doing taxes? They don't. I don't think they have brains. You mean, you're clams, But they're supposed to open up. If they weren't open up, throw it out right, that's my philosophy. Yeah, did you know how much to throw on there? Like? Is there any kind of online guide to this. No, as far as I found, there was no one who has done this in this content the world first. And uh yeah, so I just I drizzled them a little bit, got them nice and soaked, lit them with a kitchen lighter. Yeah. Did they go up? Not immediately, It's sort of like I think it. It burned really lightly for a while, like the flame was not a deep orange, but they were on fire. It's yeah, it's like an indie fuel. Uh So I just kept drizzling it on there, you know, sort of a back and forth with the two poked holes in the top of my my water bottle, and eventually they kind of went up and in a couple of minutes they opened. Really. Yeah, it did not take long at all. They were screaming the whole time. But yeah, it was a trap. This is not a party, This is not fun. It was super easy and fun and delicious. I wish I would have had like some lemons or something to squeeze over them, because we kind of just ate clams. Did you have anybody there with you or is this kind of thing you want to like prototype yourself friends? I mean, you can eat a raw clam. You can just shuck a clam and eat it right, sure, but yeah, they were they were just I don't know, they were a little like with the large clams over now, they're kind of small, you know. Sometimes sometimes large ones get like little it's about five So no, no seasoning whatsoever. You just light them in the could you taste? Did not taste the Ever Clearer? No? No? Interesting? Yeah? Would you do it again? Totally? This is a great thing to do. It's a great thing to like bring out to the beach because all you need is like an aluminum tin, clams and ever Clear in the lighter. You mean like one of those disposable like serving traysure. Yeah, you get them for like a dollar Safeway. Yeah. Like some of them are actually kind of tough really, Yeah, to peel off with it. We had forks too, wow. Tongs Also you need uh to get them out right because they don't all cook at the same time. So were they in like rocks or something like that? Would you put underneath him? Uh? No, Well to not burn my deck, I took another tin and turned it upside down, yeah, and put it on that, okay, And to put a a you know, one of the things in the kitchen where you grab a hot pan with. Sure it was a square okay, okay, yeah between them. Okay, sounds good. Yeah, am I see you? Uh yeah. My neighbor came out. I told him I would be trying an experiment out on the back porch. Yeah, and he came out to like do some clear and be like, oh yeah, I forgot about the experiment. I mean, we're not talking about flames leaping like six feet in the air or anything. Right about a foot really, yeah, that's pretty significant. It's like a right guard deodorant aerosol can right, sure that kind of flame cook him with right guard. That powdered shit. Still sell that the spray, Yeah, I don't It wasn't was it. It didn't turn into a powder, though some of it did. There was definitely that powdered one. Oh yeah yeah. But the one that you lit on fire, that's the one that you like lit your g I Joe's on fire wing. I don't sell that anymore. Too many, like too many or whatever. And still cell w D forty forty is awesome. Yeah, that'll cure what alls you. I love the smell of nebu D forty. Yeah. I like oils in general, grease and oil man makes that's what all military ships smell like. It's awesome. I'll like grease and that like waterproof paint. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's one of the things that makes it so hard to take something like Star Trek seriously as like a yeah, that's yeah, that's that's the only thing. But I mean as like as like a bathroom, as like a plausible vision of the future, you know, like any any kind of like science fiction where the future looks super like clean and pristine and immaculate. Yeah, it's like the world is dirty, you know, reality is dirty. Well maybe maybe in that vision of the future with replicators and ship, maybe they don't worry about wearing because you just make a new gear. Maybe they have like ion drives and ship. Right, yeah, that's not dirty, that's science. Yeah. I guess you want like a firefly future. I didn't say I want it, that's what's saying. That's what it's going to be. Well, it'll be like an in between space stage where you're like, you know, we're progressing to the future. It's all dirty and stuff. But then at some point I'm gonna be like tired of getting your hands dirty Bob Bob's you know on Spanish galleons. But now you have cruise ships. I'm just saying, you know, people are always going to have a soft spot for wood paneling and stuff like that. Just good. Then go to the wood you know what I mean? Yeah, but then go down to the room, the no, the fun room, the orgy room. What's that called, the one where you like make up whatever I want? I want wood panel. That's where the dirty room is. That's the place where the guys that the mops are hanging. That's that's gotta be. That's gotta be the truest name for the Holidack that's ever been uttered. I mean, what's the first thing you do when you're it's you're night off to watch the Holidack orgy? I don't want how many let's break this ship anymore? What can we do in here to break that? This thing? You think there are rules against that on on Federation starships. Man, what you don't know? That's why you hang out with the Romulans, right, this guy's not a party. I just wonder what the waitlist is like on that room on the holiday, you know, like it was a sign up sheet somebody's got it nine, Yeah, like everybody would want it, and like you need to have some kind of clean up. Yeah, doesn't they put the ensigns on, like the ensigns or the or the Holidack moppers. It's such a bad job. Favorite show without anything, what do you mean? Yeah, it's like it's a big square room with like on a yellow grid all over everything. I've got it after Rikers, I don't know what he does in there, but but it's all virtual, right, it's all like none of the stuff can physically leave that room. Yes, but unless you're or moriarty, unless it's like your bodily fluids. Yeah, sure, right, unless it's coming whatever came in. Shouldn't they just be able to convert that into energy as well? Sure, I don't know how that stuff works in the future. Then there's those days when they like leave the safeguards off, and I get that's when the real ship they turned safe search off on the Holiday Riker. The safe ards are off or of asphyxiation in there, I mean, because because it's a computer, you have to be saying stuff, right, So if you're like, you know, if you've got some like colloquial thing from your hometown. That's like, you know, I want I really want some brown pie or something like that, and the computer is like, yeah, sure, I'll search for brown pie and then comes back and it get vlogged in searching searching brown pie. Also known as the Cleveland Steamer. Did you mean to go incognito? Sure, we'll swirl with the incognito mode on the holid deck. It's a great thing. I don't know who's in here, but fucking man, they have showers a star trek uh so I seemed to I didn't really care for Voyager Mush. I didn't watch ton of it, but I seem to remember they had a thing called sonic showers in there. Okay, oh sure, like sonic dishwasher took a shower in sound waves or something like blasting the dirt, just like Indian drama strain. They like zap you with light and then all the dead flesh like flakes off your body, so you just turn like this pale white and then just kind of dust everything off. Yeah you got like a new layer of skin. Yeah, exactly. Well nineteen seventy signs still good, still valid. Yeah, I've got that UV water sterilizer. Yeah, it works. I hope we're all alive. Did you anything else besides uh, you know, torturing clams? Uh? Yeah, well I was really afraid of getting weird parasites and stuff from the from the clams, so I just made sure to drink liquor. Okay, kill anything that was in your gut. Yeah. I played Beyond, Oh two souls, two of them. How far beyond did you get? You get Beyond, Willfoe? Pretty far further than we did in a quick Look. Yeah. I think I played like six hours of it or so. I think that's most of the game. Yeah, so I feel like we're saying it's like eight or ten hours. So you saw a bunch of the A c look right, Uh did you play differently? Would you do at the party? At the party party? Which is not in the quick Look, that's before the quick look he's recorded. There's this part early in the game where you're playing as young Uh, what the fuck is your name is? Not Ellie Natalie Portman playing as a young Natalie Portman and she's got she's Jackie Jody Jody playing as a young Joe Jody Holmes, and like William Dafoe is like go and have a good time with these other kid friends with your friends. So in that game. So I had never considered until that quick look that people thought William Dafoe was creepy. What I don't think. I don't think he's creepy in this game. Really, you don't think he could play like I'm not saying he can't do creepy, but you made it sound like he is just inherently creepy. I just think here is a mode of operation. Yeah, I mean of his face a smile. You're right, and he's pretty creepy and platoon yeah. Second, and he's like, play with your friends. And then she's like, I don't really want this is a really bad idea. Go play with your friends. He has a book for her, it's a party favor. It's a great book. Go play come call me later in Portman. And then you walk out into the house and the girls are this is like a five kids all right, like five kids having a party, and they're like, I thought, personally, I'm out of touch with the younger generation, but I thought they did a pretty good job of representing what an uncomfortable party would be like for somebody who's new. Yeah, she doesn't know these kids, but there are other kids from like the military base, and they were a party and you put on music and stuff, and then they're like, well, like her mom leaves, and it turns from birthday into oh man, my mom never saw the beer that was under my bed, and like, I've got like a half a six pack. Yere, let's get wasted. And then it turns into hey, Joe, you've got a special power? Can you show us? And that's kind of your first choice. So what did you do? Well, I mean the first choice, it's just to walk around and talk to people. Actually, the first choice is you pick which music to put on, right, yes, music, So spoilers, hey, they're just super early on. It's it's I don't think it's a big spoiler. It's just kind of it's like the first sort of open ended here's a here's a place you can walk around and do stuff in. Yeah, and there's a lot of those in the game, you know. So so these kids all have powers? No, no, no, So they're like I think they're all kids from the military base. But you're in like Section X or something like that. Yeah, you're like, oh, you're what do you do over there. I'm like, homeschool, that's cool, and so yeah. The first thing is like they're like, pick the music. Joey puts some music on and you go to the radio and it's like disco pop rock? Would you pick? I think it's like pop or whatever? Like get up? Was that one of them could be? I think that I disco disco? And then the girl's like what is this? Yeah, okay, same thing for you. I'm sure whatever you pick, it's like a nerd, why did you pick something from this generation or this decade? But then the dude hits on you. It's it's so that I don't remember having this feeling playing Heavy Rain, but I one of the things I like about Beyond is that, like with the actions, you're not choosing actions so much. Is that you're sort of you're sort of acting Yeah, and I feel like you're telling the story by what you picked. Is that That's what it felt like to me. There are a lot of questions that are like, I don't know what Jody's backstory is, so long to pick this? Answer? Well, yeah, and you you sort of fill in her personality and backstory yourself by those choices. That's what it seemed like so like when I, so, did you go up and like talk to the cute guy? No? I sat down and he sat down next to me, right, but you did? You did talk to him when he came over. I tried to make polite conversation. He's like, he'll, girl, what's up? And yeah, You're like nothing right, and sounds like like what you're talking about is sort of like an interesting attempt to give in the player some like authorship over the story. It's kind of like Walking Dead. You know, it's like Walking Dead, you play out so many different ways, but like the way you did it was your story and you and it's it's really it's really light, like it's not too deep, but it's it's it's a nice touch. So like with that guy, I thought, all right, Jody wants to fit in with these people. Play nice, so don't be standoffish. Answer. Uh answer. I first answered the first question of his elusively, and then he kept asking questions, and then I thought, okay, I'm Jody is comfortable with this guy. I'm going to answer truthfully. And did you like we've got a ghost friend? Yeah? And he's like what he was? So he was really cool and we danced. Wait, so did you stay with the I have a ghost friend the whole time? Oh? She didn't really get into it because I did it in that conversation. He was like, I was like, I've got a ghost friend. He's tethered to me by magic. And he was like what. And then I was like one of the lines was kidding, and I thought I thought i'd make a joke about it, so I selected that and I was like, just kidding, yeah, and he's like that, He's like, oh, because I thought you were fucking crazy. I was like, nah, dog, I shoot guns or something like that. So yeah, I backed right out. I don't know. I felt like we had a moment and then yeah, they everyone, But right, did you kiss him? Yeah you did? Oh totally, I see as I did, because my Jody wants to fit in so bad desperate. Yeah did you drink? Yes, I see I didn't drink of course. Yeah. See I wasn't wasted. I kept my mind about me, is what I like, because like in these sorts of games, you're playing a character. Yeah that is not the character you've created, but the Yeah, you have to be within their rules and the rules that you the player graphed onto them and instead of something like oblivion where you're just uh cipher just like a blank slate, right, and you're and you're projecting all of yourself or the character you've created. I don't know. I like the constraints of having a character too. Yeah, sure to project. So you drank, I drank. You let him on? Uh huh. You did a hug, did do a kiss? Ye? And then it turns dark and then well it was great because like and then we parted and it was great. Oh boy, I have a boyfriend. Uh. And then you got wasted on every clip. But then they were like, yeah, do you guys have any clamps. Well then they're like, Jody, do that do the magic power? Yeah? Uh? And then I did and you did? Oh yeah, see I didn't. Then they locked me in a closet, say, well I did, and then they locked you. It was like under the steps. Yeah, so wait, what did you do when you showed him the power? I like flickered some lights and jostled the table. They were like, you're a freak and they put you in the closet. Yeah exactly. And then did you fuck with the kids? Uh? Yeah, So when they let you out of the closet. Let you out of the closet. No, well, in the game, lets you out of the closet. You I think i'd breaks the door open or something. Uh, you're walking out towards the front door. The front door is open, and you can just leave or there's an option that says revenge. So I just laughed, really because I was like, that's my character I was playing on. Okay, I don't want to I'm gonna go. So what happened? She leaves, She looks back towards the house, and he's like, and you just walk away? Yeah, yeah, what happened? Oh man, it's great you get to fly in there as Iden into the room because you're you're Jody is locked out of the room now. And then I'den just gets to mess with everything, like he he kicks chairs into people and then they fall over, Uh, chandeliers drop, Oh my god. Oh yeah, you mess these kids up there is Are you trying to hurt them? Yeah? Iden is right, well yeah, but I mean you're not just trying to spook him. I mean you're yeah, you're you're spooking the murder everyone at the party. One of them gets a cut. I mean it's like clarity where you're just covered and blood. Yeah, that's what I was getting. Walk out there's I mean, they've got cut, some bruises and stuff. They know it's you. Yeah, they're like they like spill out of the house. And then right when her the birth girl's mom and Willm dafoe show up and it's just it's just bad news. Yeah, she's a witch, a witch and oh so I didn't get any of that. I did get the when she opens up the gift and she's like, what is this, and yeah, it's it's a rare it's it was a collection of poems. I think it was. Yeah, and then she's like it's like a rare, it's rare, it's like a first edition and ground pole like really, she's like smells gross, Like you got me a book of one of the other girls got her a thong. Uh. And then you're like you're really good jerk kids, super jerk, but you love to throw chairs into See. I didn't want to get outed. I never said and I was already they already thought, Yeah, that's really cool. It makes me want to play it again. I thought that game did an amazing job in the first scene when you're learning that she's got the power with the girl who flips up the cards, uh of making it seem like Jodey's not in control. How scary this can be because like that whole part where you're like hitting the lights and that lady's freaking out right, So yeah, you're you're you're separated from this other woman in like a blind uh test of her abilities. She's the woman has cards, cards with different symbols on them, and then you also had that in a separate room and then you're supposed to use item to be able to tell which card the lady is holding up. But then Iden gets bored and starts messing with stuff and the lady freaks out, uh and Jody knows this, and you know, the lady gets stuck in the room, is trying to like bang on the door, like help let me out, let me out, launch right, and then this is very traumatic for this little you know, like five year old Jody, and it's yeah, it's it's a good sort of the whole uh. Interesting thing about one of the again, one of the interesting things about that game is the it's the one of the things I think they do well is the relationship Jody has with Iden, which is very It's two sides of the same coin, whether it's complex or it's uh not consistent, And I choose to think of it just more as complex, uh because sometimes he and again this is these are all things that I'm kind of bringing to the table. Sometimes he wants to make her happy and other times he's like, I you're I'm my own thing. I don't care about what you want. So kind of along those lines of the problem I had with that game and I didn't play too much pass where we did in the quick look was the inconsistency of the powers, like I've got a super shield like well why? Or I can fly through this wall but not this one this one. Alex mentioned that a lot in the review. I can possess this guy, this people that irrelevant to the puzzle and stuff. So that was that was my problem with it. But how does it How did you feel the game was going since you made it pass? The kind of big combat scenario. Is there a lot more of that? Uh? The combat which one like outside the theater with the swat Uh there I haven't really run into any more exactly like that, But there are. I feel like that the pacing of that game is is pretty good. They kind of break it up and do different sorts of encounters. Do you feel like you're playing that game as much as as much as I played Heavy Rain? Okay, yeah, holding up walking? Yeah? Uh, you know, I'm not. I'm not. I haven't been angry with it. I haven't gotten stuck anywhere, and I don't think I've died. Yeah. I don't know if you even can. I wonder if you just mission fail. I haven't done anything like that either. I'm liking it. I mean it's yeah, it's it's much more. It's less rough around the edges than Heavy Rain, I think, and it looks really nice. They could probably do amazing things with frame rate because of those black bars. It's letterbox the entire time, so you know that you're missing like a quarter or a third of the pixels that you would be drawing in any normal game or any other kind of game. But you know, I'm liking it. I'll finish it. It's interesting to hear people do things that I didn't even think you could do. Differently, like some people wrote to me after we did the quick look, it's like I never even saw this scene or like you went in a totally different way. I didn't know you could do this, And I think that's really cool. And that's an unfortunate part of the design where a lot of people won't even know what they're missing, and they might think they're being steamrolled into a certain path where it's not. It could be it could have happened differently, probably wind up at the same place in the end, but there seems to be diversity there that is never surfaced because it's seamless. Yeah, and I think that's kind of cool. I sometimes wish games like that would allow you on the second play through to see what your choice was like the first time around, even though even though a lot of those choice is probably not might not match up, or kind of nudge you towards stuff you missed. Yeah, a little bit, you know, because like you know, when you play The Walking Dead, I kind of want to play it again, but I don't remember everything that I picked, you know, and I don't, and I'm really interested, Yeah, something like that. Just tell me what I did, Who did I kill last time? You know? Everybody. I just want to come out of there with only that one dude, kill everybody. I kind of I kind of prefer the opposite, just letting my version of the story stand as the story, you know. But I mean I never I never played games twice, So so what you're such a liar? A liar? What hey, everybody, brad liar shoemakers here joining us. You're like playing wind Waker again. Well, I mean that's keeps ten years old. Man, Come on, he played uh legends, I'm talking about one again. I'm telling I'm talking about the same game, you know, the same copy of the game. Like I don't put it back in the system and start over. For the most part, right, he's playing it over and over and over again. Played that one over over about four hundred times now. But yeah, sure, God, I feel like I've been playing most of my game at least twice through. And I think there might just be a holdover from like being young and poor, you know, like you only had one you had dude, right, your mom bought you that game for like sixty bucks, and you're like this better last you like three bunts, you know, and then next thing you know, you're beating like Double Dribble Level three by four hundred points. You know, because that's all you have to play. But double dribble? Did you play anything else? Uh? Don't think so? Burn anything else? No, I wish you did something else. M No, wow fulfilled done pretty close to that weekend. Wouldn't want to go to the moon or something? Well, come on, man, we'll wish you kate here. Then you need to space suit dream bigger man? How expensive is it to go to the moon on that yet to actually land? Put set? Like, at least get out into space? Aren't in like this space is like fifty bucks get the Moon by Kurbel. We should do that. Oh. At one point, I think it was something like ten thousand dollars a pound to get something into orbit. Or maybe that's just a reach escape philosophy, like the vir was setting up like a plane stuff. Yeah, something like that. Yeah, that's you know, like one hundred thousand dollars and it's kind of like fifty million to hop aboard. The Russian swears thirty so he swear swear. Yeah. Whatever Garriott paid for I think it was like thirty million. Would you do that if you? I guess you'd depend on how much extra cash you have, Right, If thirty million were just like a small percentage of your total, without a doubt totally. What if you had thirty one million, would you pay thirty millions? He? At least he claimed. I don't know what his actual financial state is, but he made it seem like he had spent most of his money on that trip. I don't think i'd do it. No, like, no talk tell me what it was like. That'll get Knoculus rifted and pretend I'm in space. I don't think it's the money for me so much as just being too fearful of my own mortality. Really, yeah, come on, man, I think percentage one can go wrong, but percentage wise number of man space, Yeah, and the number that have not come back, it's extremely high. Really, I wouldn't think that I do it? Do you do it? Even if you had thirty one million? It cost thirty million? Ye? Yea a million? Still a lot. What if they said no pictures? Yeah, and you can't tell anybody. I don't need to tell anybody. What if there are no windows? Then but you'd be waitless. I could go be waitless on the vomit comment. Yeah, and for thirty million, you could probably do that all day. Yeah, you buy one vomit comments kind of a I mean it's not it's clear, let's be clear. I was gonna say, yeah, let's be clear. It would not be a bummer to be on the vomit comment, but it is, like it's kind of a shame because yeah, you only get like thirty seconds at a time. You don't you wouldn't have like minutes. But what if that's enough if you're like, yeah, okay, I get it. I did my like try and drink a soda. Yeah, exactly. Think about how many different things you'd want to mess with in zero G if you have the time, like all of them? Like what everything? Like p sure, yeah, like into the little vacuum? Yeah, what else? Mister thirsty? Like what? I don't know if it's the gravity that would want to be up in space like zero G. I'd want to bring other stuff that they would never let me bring, like like a worm. See what a worm does? Maybe you want to like like do it and stuff like have sex in space? I don't know. So you'd have to pay for yourself and then pay for your some like escort. Don't look, guys, that's where's the holidays? That was pretty specific. Figures something you want to share with class. See. I love when they do those experiments and come back like, oh we brought spiders up and have them build webs and zero G and like they look like nightmares and crazy. Like that's the stuff. I super interesting, the effect gravity has on all these things we take for granted, Like we grow crystals in space and it looks like you know, Alfredy Newman and like all that weird stuff that happens in zero G. Yeah, like all the stuff they invented to solve problems in zero G like ballpoint pens, right, and pencils, yeah, velcro and yeah, and corning where that stuff. But like I think everybody's done the like bodily fluids and like chick, watch me gobble this, Like but you wouldn't. You wouldn't still want to try at yourself. I can't believe you're arguing against having more time. Of course I would, but not for like thirty million put in the value versus the money, right right, yeah, the view, the view is really yeah, I want to go see uh and and the prolonged period I think, just like getting used to being in space, yeah, but then when it happens if you're there too long and you can't never come back to Earth. Your bone density changes and then you're done. Then I'm all wigly. What if you sneeze? Well, that's just float around. Gross happens when you sez? Do you have to like bring a hanky? Thank you? Move a little bit like slam into the back of the cha whole ship? You know. Sneeze travels at like one hundred miles an hour. Yeah, so do you then move at one hundred miles an hour? Wait? No, it's about mass, man, that's how man. I think I just solved it. Know how we can get the Mars sneeze your way there? Just yeah, just go up there with like a bunch of pepper. Yeah yeah, just get like a big thing of pepper and just so between sneeze your way there between Earth and the Moon. Is it zero? Do you ever hit zero g? Or you always being affected by one of those gravity wells? I think you're always being affected. Yeah, so it's not zero. Well, no, something's weightless. Something's gonna be pulling you somewhere. Yeah, I think weightlessness is the term. You're zero gravity, not like micro gravity, but it's at that point it's not I mean everything is being affected everything, like like both of those bodies are being affected by the Sun, and that's being affected by the center of the galaxy. Like you're saying, if everybody sneezed on Earth at the same time, at the same direction, you can move the Earth. Yep, let's try it. It's like that, Mario, remember that, Mari, Mario, Mario, everybody just sneezed. Yep. We'd have too busy play in Mario three. Man, we could have done something. We could have done something real. I love the science of zero G. I don't think I could add anything. Maybe I could. Accidentally, everything that is going to be invented has been invented. No, I don't mean that. I just mean like, there are smart people than me that should be in space. What do I kind of feel like we just you'd break something? Yeah, yeah, like the best. You're one of the best QA people we know. That is a good reason for me not to be in here. You go of any play sleeping dogs in zero G and what would happen? Yeah? Who knows? Man, you have you done it? No thought. When I'm sitting over in the engineering pick, people are like this is done. I was like give it to Vinnie. I haven't liked He'll break it. I haven't seen that movie Gravity Drew you saw, yeah, but I saw the trailer for it, and I was wondering, like if you got if you were in space and you were doing an EVA and you got separated on a trajectory. Wait, hey man, that's some good shout talk. Well that's just kurbl because it's got a little EVA button and they go and then like you got trajectory. You got shot off in a trajectory, right, and you had enough oxygen to last you four days. Let's say, would you would you take your helmet off? I don't know why would you? Because otherwise you're just you're floating out there for Who's to say that on the third day they won't figure out a way to get you back. Oh you're not coming back. I don't know. You're just you're just watching things get smaller, smaller, you're just orbiting. Would die? I guess it depends on how tragic of death it is to take your helmet off, Like, is it more painful to suffocate or it's like total recall. I think you just like free, You're like you free, so it doesn't work that way. You blood flode or something one of the weird plosions on explode. I mean if you're, if you're, if your nose was uncovered all of the air and your lungs would just suck. Yeah, I don't want to see my balls, but I mean you would lose consciousness in about five seconds after the air went out of you. That's why on airplanes, like when the masks dropped there, like always put your own mask on first, because you will pass out immediately if you don't. Sure. I always thought that was just a marketing ploy to use more masks. Yep, that's what it is. So would you a big oxygen man is always trying to stick it to you. So if you ran out of oxygen in your suit, it wouldn't necessarily depressurized, you just asphyxiated. Yeah, Whereas if you take your helmet off, all the weird ship would happen. You just die. Yeah, weird huh, weird one. See this is way, this is what happened if they sent me to space, And so that's why rim conversations. That's why space suits look so big and fat, like you look like the stay off marshmallow man. It's because they're so highly pressurized because you move. So I saw I saw a thing on PBS about these prototype space suits that they're working on that don't have to be pressurized with gas. Yea, like they just they're made to exert pressure on the body like really tightly. Does that make sense to body suits? Yeah? They straight up They straight up looked like the armor from mass effect. It's awesome. And how far away are they? Oh, this is this is super speculative R and D face popular science must be so scary being like the first person to try that thing out in space. I mean, you know, they were testing them in like tanks of water and stuff like that. What if you all right, it's gonna sound super dumb, because I'll try and make it more scientific. These guys don't think it's super dumb. What if you have flatulence in your pressurized suit? Can it escape? Can't too much pressure like explode because it's gotta be air tight, right and it's already filled. Yeah, but you probably allow for some variance. Yeah, this is probably a negligible amount of extra pressure to add. Well maybe not you. I don't know if you Burt and far don't much. I don't know how much gas we're talking about escaping does it take? I'm sure she's like, I gotta go back. It's just fucking did you guys eat the cream spinach? Like in the Man? Oh yeah, it stakes in here mission control. We've got another SPD here. It's a silent, but I gotta go back. I can't not another minute in this thing. I got recycled. Aaron here is rough. It's good. Take my helmet off, air it out for a second. Yeah, anyway, quick on that release foul. Just one of those. Yeah, that turkey jerky's just killing me. Do anything else? You're done? Ye, did not do any flash on ev as Alexis Man? How do how do you follow up flaming Clams? Yeah, welcome to the podcast. I played a little Dark Souls. Yeah, you guys, I beat that first bell Tower gargoyle guy. That's pretty good. That's pretty because the first the first like so the Something Demon starts with like a team, I think, not the Capper Demon. The Capper Demon is like the one that I'm on now, Okay, I think I don't know if I'm doing this the right. I just went up to the bell and I killed that guard shell, and now I'm ringing the bell and now I'm trying to fight that carpor deem, and I'm just like, this sucks, like because he just runs right at you. He's pretty tough, and he's got like two two of his friends in there, these guys a little like two wolf wolfs on the side. I'm just like Jesus christ Man, is the Caper Deemon something you have to fight. I think he's mandatory because I think it's you're an un deadsburg right, kind of like a like a CaCO demon. Is that before the gargoyles? No, it's after as well. I think you can choose which way you got. That's you gotta ring two bells. That's the thing. I killed the two gargoyles on the church roof, but I don't remember fighting the Kapper demon unless I just forgot about. Well, like the first the first your objective, if I remember correctly, Dudes, like you gotta ring these two bells. This is this whole story, ring these two bells. You ring the first one and then you're like, Okay, now I'll go ring the other one. And I think that's when you fight the demon. He's hard. I cheased them like by running their steps in there. That's what it looks. Fell down, ran, fell down. I think I'm just not strong enough yet to withstand one of his hits. So like when I block him, my guy just completely falls backwards. That's poise. Yes, Yeah, so you know now I kind of know that I need to go and like grind it out a little while to like boost up my stats. Well, try and get some equipment that'll increase your poise. Sure, but all of that required a little bit of grind souls. Yeah, so's some dark souls. You gotta sit by the fires for a little while, right. I think I wasn't doing the fire thing right in the beginning, you know, like I wasted a lot of souls dying. You know, I'd get up to like four thousand souls and die. Yeah, don't walk around with souls on you on your person. Well, there's not a lot of explanation unless you're watching, you know. I didn't actually watched any of the quick looks about it. I was just like, I'm just gonna get into this, yeah, and have all quick looks of dark souls best place to find and to make sure. And I felt, you know, being me I'm like, I don't want to know anything, right, I just want to figure this out. It's fun, son of a bitch, It's it's hard. Well, So I will say I think the first couple of hours of that game, like where You're where you are, I feel like as a turning point, like after that, it does like you're it sounds like you're learning already, Like even those gargoyles, I think is some of the hardest stuff in the game. The early game is really rough. Yeah, and you're just trying to manage your souls, trying to get like how big you know. Right now, I think I'm using a staff with a with a shield, so I've got that boosted up. It's like it's the long it's the long spear with like with the hook at the end of it. Okay, And I got from one of the dudes, you know, and I put like five of those rocks on it. Okay, So it's like plus five spears. That sounds pretty good, it seems okay, And you can hold the shield down and use it at the same time. Yeah, I had to boost up my strength. I think my strength is like nineteen or twenty now or something like that. So are you enjoying it? I am enjoying it, but also it's kind of frustrated, right because it seems, you know, there isn't a lot of story to the to the to the game, not non obvious story now, so you know, I think I think I'm not I don't feel attached to it yet other than to the combat, you know, to the actual you know, I love combats in games, things like you know, Sleeping Dogs and Batman and just I like pacings and games and how how like the mechanics of everything work. So figuring all that stuff out has been really interesting, you know. I think all the like the patterns, right, the game is all about patterns and figuring out timing and stuff like that. But that's cool. I'm glad you're playing. Yeah, are you? Are you going to continue or you? Like I would say, if you feel like you're hitting a wall, feel free to look up the wealth of knowledge on the internet. Yeah, that's kind of what their game is all about. Sure, we'll see, we'll see. I mean, I think I'm gonna keep I'm gonna keep grinding it out for a little while. I'm gonna resist trying to I just god, I hate looking stuff up, you know, But I think most of the strategies, I would say some stuff is good to look up. I think you're doing it the right way. Go go for it as far as you can. If you feel like you're well gonna put it down. Look up some strategies. But a lot of that stuff is so unique to the bills you're playing. Sure, Like some strategies might just be like blocked this guy right, like I can't in a different way. Yeah, I mean that that demon right now runs up to me and just knocks me to the floor and kills you. Yeah, yeah, pretty much like two swipes. How long, ever, run is it to fight him? Again? I found I found the shortcuts to get to it. I'm yeah, I mean I mean that, like I don't know, it's one of it's what that bonfire and there's like there's a big ladder right next to it, and you can just basically run through the little bridge where the guys are trying to fire bomb you, okay, and you get right to them and you get right through that door and basically you're downstairs, so and then you're fighting dogs, right and then so it's not that long a run, right, But I know now that I need to like basically traverse the map and just kill people and boost up my stuff. And you know, so I came into that game from playing Demon Souls, so I did spend some time just grinding out to get a slight advantage. Sure, I think, And I think I lost a lot of my souls, Like I think, even like the first like mini bosses I beat, I died right after beating them. So it's like terrible. It's like a terrible way to start. That's a terrible way to start. I just like I was like, no, that's fine, right, don't well, don't forget. You're probably finding souls in cash and uh that are in your inventory, can pop. I figured that one out. I definitely figure that one out. So are you playing on the PC? Yeah? Did you install all the mods for THEE like like the DS fix and then the font smoother Yeah, basically those are the two things, and like the n h D pack. So it seems to run okay. You know, it's fine. Is it still have the games for Windows Live stuff in there? Ye? Still have to sign into that because they just yanked that out of It's a BioShock two And I think Arkham City, I think, yeah, those got replaced with steam Works. Yeah, so I didn't know if that was effective for every game or not. That'd be awesome because it's it's sometimes you're you're there sitting waiting for Windows Live to log in, right, You're just like okay, especially if that thing needs updates. It's like update update. Yeah, I'm as updated as you could possibly be, I think, right, But anything else you do, m nope, h read read some Harry pot Are in Spanish. Trying to improve my Spanish a little bit, Okay, you know how do you say uh, mcgonical in Spanish mcgonical. Yeah, it's really it's just it's easy. Yeah, it's really, it's really funny you're like reading those books or even like when you watch like TV shows in Spanish, like if it's coming from an English translation, it'll be like, you know, coming down Professor dumb before Like it's just like they don't change it, right and just had of choosing or whatever. Yeah, like you know, yeah, like quidditch, they just a lot of times they just add you know, they call it like Spanglish a lot of times. You know, you know, anybody cast a law wing guardian LEVIOSA. Yeah, I'm only like chapter five so of the first book. Yeah, yeah, spoilers, no spoilers. Did you watch the movies? I read all the books and watch movie. Yeah, I'm all caught up. I'm all caught up. So it's actually an easier thing to to read, right because you already know the book and it's you know, I feel like my Spanish is getting a little soft, you know so and trying to you know, I think we were worth like a muscles gonna come to you. But since you're practicing your Spanish, alexis you just translate everything Brad says into Spanish? All right, Brad, would you do this weekend? All right? Wait, I'm sitting here trying to think of embarrassing thinks to make Alexa look at Yeah. No, that might be pregnant, that might be I think the only thing we ever got out of these conversations was do your podcast on tro that youst oh, yes, and Marc bradto make just so A tell you that's pretty spicy. Yeah, I'm hot and sweaty about the shoemaker. I like that one that's about the kids. Brad, would you do Hira not? This is rolling ours that's actually pretty brilli. It's hard to doing liddle of a word though. Yeah, I'm like, yeah, it's it's it's kind of a shame that Jeff is not here this week because me and him went Sony, excuse me, and Jeff and I went thank you, thank you very much too. We went Sony last week, okay uh and got our hands onto PlayStation four stuff. Whoa did you bring it back for everybody? Great? Brought like five of them. You get a PS four and you get a PS four. So if you're listening to this podcast and I've not received your PS four yet, Brad Shoemaker, they're all the truck bomb cast Grande py. No mind to the featureless brown cardboard box that they're in. What was there? What was Sony showing? So let's see what do we play? Played a good bit of Killzone, which we can't talk about yet because it's embargoed until when like Friday. Oh, I think, okay, what else they had? Knack, they had reso gun, they had the witness really and then they had they had a handful of stuff they had not to cannibalize your news, my news, it's our news. Every it's everybody's everybody's news belongs to the world. They announced there's a number of p S three ps ND games that are coming to PS four, like Flower your favorite. Yes, ge't a wait to play that one again? Right, I don't hate Flower. It's a misconception, all right, Let's see Flowers, sound Shapes, Scapegoat and what am I forgetting? I think there's one other anyway. Actually, Flow is Journey coming? Uh not Journey that I saw? Damn out? Yeah, man, I'd love to see Journey. Yeah, you know, Journey may already beat. It's like ten ap on on p S three for all I know. I mean, there may not be much more. You could do anything anyway. Point being like they had those there, they had those there. I saw him running you No, Flower looked super nice. It ran really smooth, high res and stuff. I did not play Knack sadly Jeff spent time with that. Did you watch Nack? I did watch They had to, so Mark Serney was there kind of talking about the game and showing some They had some like edited gameplay clips put together that they showed, so I at least got a pretty good sense of how it plays. And then Jeff went off played it, and I played some other stuff. Well let's start with what you did play. Okay, Rezzo Gun played Rezo Gun. Tell me about Rezzo Gun. Have you played a Defender? Yeah? Sure, remember that? Uh yeah, you go left and right and then yeah, they they kind of made Defender for PSN and you know, they married it to the you know, the sort of Superstar Dust Geometry Wars sensibilities of like super crazy neon particle effects stream like wave sensory overload kind of stuff. We ever see footage of that game, It's always incomprehensive. I'm sure it like that playing. I mean, no, you can totally keep up with it. Like if you if you can handle stuff like Geometry Wars, you're totally fun. You save people. I'm sure it will. Yes, I'm sure it'll play havoc with our video compressor when we get around, Yeah, doing stuff with it. But yep, so when you when people are getting abducted and you shoot it, people go. So it's fun. So yeah, yeah it is. It's it's pretty fun. But it is very much like you know, it's a side scrolling shooter, but you can fly both directions and yeah, there are people, people scattered around. Yeah, that you pick up and drop off at a gate and then give you power ups when you do it, like what and I'm not sure let's see I got I mean there are gun upgrade They're just gun upgrades that give you just like more shots at one time and stuff like that, like nothing super crazy. You do have a boost that you can use to boost three enemies to kill them. Let me ask you this, Brad Shoemaker. Okay, would you confuse that game with a p S three game? Uh? No, I don't think so. Okay, but I mean, I don't know. It has like it has kind of that sparse looking art style that makes it seem kind of platform agnostic, right, it doesn't necessarily look like something you couldn't do on a mid range PC or something, okay, like or you know, I'm not gonna say on a PS three necessarily. I'm going to ask you that for everything you saw? Okay, what else did you The answer that question for NAC is yes, you could confuse it. Oh wait, wait, how did you word the question? I don't know which one which you would not confuse? You would not you would not confuse NAC for a PS three game. Cool? I don't think that's what I want to hear. I want I want to hear PS four and Xbox one have games that you could not confuse Like it looked nice, It looked nice. I didn't. Actually I really didn't pay a lot of attention to the playable demo. I just just the stuff they had recorded. Did they tell you what what the games are running at? Resolution? Wise? For nack the presentation, they said thirty to sixty like variable which one? But no, like like it will you know it's not locked, No, it's not locked, but it will thirty two hundred and sixty thirty. They said, you know it'll be between thirty and sixty, But they didn't say at seven twenty p or ten eight. No, they didn't say what the resolution was. That info might be out there. But Jeff said when he played the demo that like it was not actually as smooth as he would have thought, like maybe dropping below thirty. Yeah, so I seemed like but again I didn't play it. You know, we should see what he has to say. So you played rezzle Gun and one else, uh and the Witness I played, like first fifteen minutes of the witz didn't have created assets in it with the character art. It's you know, I saw a video online and had like prototype stuff Monle and what yeah, oh no, wait, not the Witness I'm thinking of. I'm thinking of the way the Witness is Jonathan Blow game. Yes, yes, what the hell does that game look like? It looks awesome? I what do you? What is? It? Can't go on? I cannot wait to play the rest of that game. You've probably seen a lot of comparisons to Missed. You know, it's set on an island. It's I don't want to say spooky, it's mysterious, Okay, mysterious like you don't know why you're there. You know, there's nobody around. It's a lot of poking around and sort of discovering what the hell the nature of the island is. But uh, in this game, like the everything is built around these little kind of they're not tile puzzles. How can I describe it? Like every puzzle is sort of this maze looking thing, like you walk up to a puzzle, Like all the puzzles in the walk up to a puzzle, all the puzzles are screens. And I walk up to a screen and there are there are like screens all over this island, Like, but I walked up to this one like little kiosk looking things, and then what happens. You walk up to it and like hit a button and then the camera just sort of like zooms in and the locks on the puzzle. Okay, and all it is is typically this maze arrangement with some dots in there, okay, and you basically just have to trace patterns through the maze to solve each puzzles. It's like the very first environment. There's very first when you start out in this room, and the first puzzle is just a straight line and you like drop your dot on one end and like trace it to the other end and that solves the puzzle. Are using a touch screen, I just use you just use the sticks to just like move your cursor. Okay, maybe you could I don't know. But you know, they get progressively harder and they start teaching you more concepts. Some of this I remember from h you know, I forget who went. I think it was like Ryan and Patrick Patrick and Ryan went to Cha Blow's house. Yeah, and I remember it was like two yeah, a long time ago, three years ago, talking about some of these concepts with the screens, and the puzzles and the tracing of like yeah, skylines and stuff like that, right, and like it seems like there are a whole lot of other mechanics that exist within that kind of maze looking framework that will be rolled out over time. And like I had there's a guy from Sony there that was sort of talking, you know, over my shoulder. Like at one point, like I went up to a puzzle and he's like, oh, you don't have the context to solve that right now. There are other puzzles you need to solve first before you can Unless you're some kind of savant, there's no way you can just look at this and figure out how to solve it without kind of going through the progression of other puzzles to get the get the kind of learn other lessons, you know what I mean. So you were an idiot? Yeah, Basically what we were saying, hey, hey, you probably want to move on. I don't try to judge, but up he like doesn't say John blows. Johnathan Blow was standing right there watching me, and that was put this helmet on too. That was that was not remotely intimidating, having him standing there watching me play his game. I heard a lot of I heard a lot of sighing, And you wouldn't think that somebody when their eyes would make a sound that I'd swear that I hearing this, Like it's it's fucking awesome, Like they I don't know how much the environment is going to factor into the way you kind of explore the island and how you solve the puzzles and stuff like that, but I've heard it does, Yeah, right, Like, I don't know to what extent or with the nature of that stuff is. But like, the one example that I've really saw that I could I could describe is that you find you find what's obviously a gate to a different part of the island, Like there's like a physical gate there, but there's a screen next to it, and parts of it are not lit up. And if you kind of look around the sides of the kiosk, you've noticed these cables snaking out of it, kind of leading to other places in the area that you do have access to, and you have to you have to like physically follow, like kind of trace the length of the cable with your eyes and find these other smaller puzzles that those cables are connected to. Yeah, and so each each puzzle that you solve that's connected to one of those cables lights up another part of that screen. So once you followed all the cables and solved all those puzzles, it lights the whole screen up. Ingenious. Yeah, and then you can solve that puzzle and that opens the gate unless you go into another part of the island. But like, some of the places the cables were snaking around were actually really obscure. They were kind of covered up by like grass and trees and stuff. Pretty good at following cables, Yeah, well you have to. You're gonna have to really look at that cable. Can you label the cables? You should always label your cake. You should always label both ends of your cable, but I never do. But sometimes it's hard when you're if you're labeling as the output or the input, what's coming out of the cable or where you should plug it out? What is try caster in me? Does that mean it's the input for the try caster or is that you should plug that into the input of the try castle. Yeah, it's confusing. Use better cable labels, I know better, Yeah, more descriptive cable label cables. So so coming out at launch, no that's not a launch game, so it's also wait, are the puzzle? Is the islands just a glorified menu? That is my question? Thank you for asking. That's exactly what I want to know about that game is Is this just a really pretty hub for you to go solve all these little puzzles or doesn't sound like I'm hoping there's a lot. You know, when it's Jonathan Blow, you can kind of look at Braid and see, you know, there's some pretty interesting thematic elements at work there and stuff like that. So I hope there is more of a kind of a narrative through line to this than, like you said, just you know, solving puzzles and get into new areas. But I can't say from from what I saw, but but there are there are some interesting elements. Even to the little bit I played where like a handful of puzzles were inside this kind of old, rotted out barn. There was another set of puzzles that I solved. Because you'll find a lot of sets of puzzles like three screens in succession where you solve one puzzle and it'll just automatically move you over the next one. You know, you're obvious to kind of solve them all at once, and I would finish, Like I finished one of those sets and it wasn't immediately obvious that anything in the environment had changed. Right, So there's some, like I said, there's some kind of mysterious elements to the setting itself, and I hope that. I hope that's a big part of the game, is kind of uncovering what the nature of the place is. I thought that was explicit at some point, that the that the environment locks into some of the puzzle cabin I know that. Yeah, like discovering what you need to do in some of those puzzles. I think you're supposed to take subtle cues from the environment. But what I mean is if that stuff wraps back around and informs like some kind of a story, maybe maybe it's you never saw an exposition, there's zero Yeah, I mean, you know this, The whole thing is very minimal and kind of quiet and reverent. Maybe maybe they're not showing it. Yeah, man, uh, maybe you get your cut scene pre rendered. Not talking about the plasma rifle right now, come later multiplayer screens. But I mean it's gorgeous, Like it's just like the art design. It's super clean and kind of kind of like I said, it's kind of a mental look and and just really nice to look out and explore. And so that's the Witness Puzzles. Yep, what else he got? I think I was gonna say a rezzle gun. Then I thought it was funny like this Jeff thought of this was that, like it's house Mark. I think pretty sure these guys that did start us, and like I was talking about, like like star Dust was kind of two asteroids with this is to Defender, Like they're kind of making this habit of like making these really pretty ps and action games that are just kind of like super inspired by these old arcade games. Sure I'll take it. Yeah, No, totally. Like it's you know, mapped onto primitives like Sphere and Cylinder sort Yeah, stuff like that. Yeah, got me think about other games that I would want them to us Jarus You mean Yars Revenge. Somebody already made a Yards Revenge that didn't That's that's the one with Quatawel. So well, how do you translate that, Alexis, that's the same thing. Just put it, put an L in front of everything. I have a lot to translate he's been going for like, yeah, alright, twenty minutes. Sorry. If I had any respect for my translator, I would pause and let him okay and know and weakness as moy you got it? Yeah, yeah, that's it. This is this is the budget version of Rosette. See if I were doing an Italian it'd be gun totally different. How you're saying, huh yeah, I think so well made you say. I like that a lot better. So what else? What else was schelling? I mean, that was it. It was those PS three games that are poured it over, Like I said, nac resu gun uh kill his own which campus guys yea and nack knack you neck looks all right? Like that's that's kind of the big question mark on my lest. I feel like I kind of I kind of understand what the Witness is gonna be, kind of under saying where the rezu gun is gonna be? Nack, I have no idea, you're just a dude man out of ball. Witness doesn't even factor into this because it's not a launch game, like there will be other PS four games out probably before the Witness. You know, sure, I'm guessing unless you know it's coming sooner than I think. But like what I mean is that is not the next PS four game to look forward to after these launch games. I think, are you looking forward? Are you looking forward to? Nack uh hard question. I don't know. It just it's just it's very straightforward, Like it's just a really straightforward action game. You know. It's like you know, they're building they're building it for like you know, fun for the whole family kind of stuff. You're like effects, right kind of, yes, so just Cameo came up kind of. But but I mean I never played Cameo, but I always got the sense Cameo is a little more open, right, isn't kind of zeldash like this? This doesn't seem like there's gonna be any backtracking or anything. It's just very like linear, like one through these pretty tightly designed levels. But what do you do? It's a lot of it's a lot of like beating up kind of stuff. You know, like you you've got like a three hit melee combo. But why are you made out of balls? No, you're made out of like relics, yes, exactly why I don't know, because you're some kind of relic robot. But like what does that get I don't. I don't know, you explode. I look like Mark serning to you go a little bit. No, I'll take that. Yeah. Well, I mean the big I don't know if you have seen much of the game, but I'm big press. The big hook is that you are made out of these relics, but you're also going out and finding more, and as you find them, they are like grafted onto neck and it gets bigger and bigger. So like you start out like three feet tall, but then it can eat a pencil. I mean, it's a lot more scripted than that. It's not like you're roaming around. It's not in any kind of open world like roaming around looking for stuff. It's like, you know, all the all the pieces are doled out by designers, you know, like it's all part of the level design. But then you know, like by the end of the level that they're showing you had gone from three feet tall to like, I don't know, thirty or forty, like you're huge, and then a house. Yeah, and the end of the level like it just was built into the cut scene that you just lost all your relics for whatever reason. I mean, there's some kind of interesting stuff in there where like there's a point where he can graft a bunch of icicles to his form. Uh forget why he needs them. But then once you run out of this cave where you pick up the icycles, you only got like a minute to get where you're going because they're all gonna melt off. M So some kind of interesting stuff like that. But it's you know, it is a is a pretty straightforward kind of beat them up action game. I have a pre order on PS four. Yea, I need a game. I would have said watch Dog, both of them. I would. I would have said Watchdogs, but well, I don't know buck that. Now I need a game resu Gun. Well you're gonna you're gonna get that day one for free with PlayStation Plus. Yeah, which Sawesome like that game it is Sawesome? Yep, Sawesome, Sawesome SA Saucy. Yeah, I need something to play. I don't know, man, I don't know. I got nothing for you. Like again, I don't want to step into news too much. But you know, Drive Club got pushed back, watch Dogs got pushed back, which it seemed like a lot of people we're gonna play on PS four plus. You know that was practically a the fact of PS four game with the extra content they're pedaling and stuff like that. We'll talk about that in a little bit when we hit our big news chunk. I don't know. I mean you do you like Battlefield? Right? I do? But like, are your family members gonna get Battlefield on? And still let's still love program and hot topic here. It's gonna be a big like yeah, like big Thanksgiving to big, big discussion in the extended Listen, guys, we need to sit down, We need to talk about that. We all need to get on the same page where you guys. If there's a schism, it would be terrible. Yeah, it would be horrible. Well, you're gonna get both figure you guys would just wait to see what my corn does. Just follow him. He's he's always at Thanksgiving. We've been coming since the eighties, and we always wait to see what he does. Do you guys have a lot of I don't want to, I don't want to like let this question to come off the wrong way. Do you guys have a lot of Italian food at your Thanksgiving? Why would that come off the wrong I don't know. Would I be offended by that? Yeah? Now, I'm offended. Great. Uh, do you have a lot of we have a lot of tomato based, well name Italian foods kind of stuff make this offensive? Do we have knives at the table? Yes? Do we have switch blades at the table? No? No? Do we all wear like, you know, white peters at the table? Maybe? I mean, is it all turkey and stuffing and mashed potatoes? Or do you throw some like pasta and it's it's everything? What do you? Yeah? Both ravioli, there's lasagna and the turkey. Oh fuck man, I feel like there are canoli's and like pumpkin pie. So you have like your cultural Thanksgiving and also the kind of bland American Thanksgiving rolled into one. Who who and whoa. It's nothing bland about a. I'm trying to think of the least planned food. There's nothing bland about sweet potatoes with marsha. I don't don't I don't mean, I don't mean like your typical typically yes, generic, Yes, we have our cornucopia with fruit and apples and the harvests pouring out of it. Uh. And then we next to that is a giant canoli. Oh god man, The best Thanksgivings are when you mix as many ethnic ages as possible. Fish you have fish out your things? Yeah, well no we don't, and you're doing it wrong. But I went to uh. I went to a Chinese family Thanksgiving a couple of years ago. And that's pretty awesome. Yeah, because you got because it was exactly that, you got the whole. You got the whole like turkey and mashed potatoes and casserole side, and then you had like crab and that's what stuff on the other side. The first Thanksgiving was a mix between cultures, right, and that's what we're trying to keep up, trying to blend cultures together. You put them on the same plate, depends if you want them both at that same time. I mean, we have a lot of leftovers. So yeah, what did you have it Thanksgiving? Just the generic stuff? What's the generic item? I'll name items. You tell me if they're generic. Turkey yep, uh, green bean casserole with the one with the mushroom soup. Yeah, and the French onions. Yeah we do bacon, sure, Okay, we don't make that. We don't typically make that one. But yam slash swee potatoes with or without marshmallows with Okay, mac and cheese. What else is a staple? Cranberries? Yeah, somebody wants it. Okay, uh, do you guys have any other staples? And left stuffing, gravy, stuffing in the bird, out of the bird. Both we've never done in the bird. Okay you should do both? Yeah? Both? Yeah, both, all right? Lasagna, No, it's for getting me balls, pizza, yeah, race and beans. Sorry, got nothing for you. A pig, I mean we have a ham. We usually have usually hand we usually have a turkey, I mean like a full on like like yeah, like happle in the mouth kind of thing, turkey in the mouth, some good like belly fat. I used to go to these uh this this Cuban family as well, and they used to just take a full on, like you know, one hundred and fifty pound pig. Get the big oil drum. That was part of that we've done. We didn't know. We haven't done that for Thanksgiving, but we have certainly had a big pick. Well that's but that's the crazy thing about going of those Thanksgivings, because you're doing that and the normal stuff you got turkey and pig pig picking, pig picking. Oh yeah, what's what do you pick? Do you pick the pig? Yeah, you pick you pick the pig. Wait, you pick off the meat off the pig. Okay, the idea is yeah, you're just like, I mean, that might not actually not actually happen. They might actually like cut it, put it, yeah, put it in a dish and serve it to people. What's the skin called on the idea? Christener or I mean if you buy it in a an in convenience store, it's just like pork rinds. Yeah, but like it's all the crackling with the fat and all that stuff. Think, Yeah, I think I love things on a spite goat. Who Yeah, it's good. Uh lam lam uh we don't. We don't lamas queens. You's got a lot of love. Oh yeah, we we do whatever. Bring whatever you want, man, Yeah, that's that's a Thanksgiving is all about. Have you eaten a lama? No, but I just assumed they'd be I assume that's a lot of meat just because they're more love filled. I don't know. I'm facing the prospect of being a Thanksgiving orphan this year, and I'm trying to figure out what to do. You mean just having it at your house? Well, no, I mean like, I'm not going home just having at your house. I don't know that I'm quite capable enough of the kitchen to pull it off. Brat, I'll come over. Yeah, I'm tempted because I think my Thanksgiving is going to be like my brother and my and his wife and there's a lot of kids coming to this and need an excuse roasted kid. Friend, he's just gonna sit in the house with the blinds drawn, drinking all day. If I'll go over there, I gotta go. He's just tell him that did you ever do you ever go shopping for a ham? It's weird. The rules on ham are really weird about like what's like spiraled versus can no, like what's because there are classifications for ham about how much water they can just inject into the ham, and like what's meat and like what's not. It's really weird. Like finding a pure ham is kind of tough. Huh. Yeah. I had a tough time not finding something that was like reconstituted ham. I just want to hawk a ham you're at Have you ever had one of the cans that comes in the in the in the can that's called sam It's literally the larger one it's like it's like the pound astro spam. Sam. Uh, it's not bad, Brad. You play anything else? Uh, Tony or just in general. So that's Sony. What is controller still feels great? Yeah? Controller is good? You see any stuff? No, I hit the PlayStation button and they had the menu stuff disabled. Thing. I was very set. I you know, it's cool to see games, but like I am more interested in seeing the enters of those systems at this point, yeah, than anything else all the inside. They're gonna be living with it for the next however many years at least until they maybe decide to replace it if they do. Yeah, do you think it's gonna still be like a what is it? Like a UPN box? Is that what it is? That the protocol for like being able to connect to it and like stream movies and stuff like that. Upp Yeah, that's what it maybe? Yeah, Oh no, no, you're talking about I think it's UPnP is like how you discover yell and A. I think it is the thing you're talking about. There's yes, l A Star Trek episodes. What you're talking one of those two is the one that allows you to like stream like stuff like that. Like that's how people use center or like plaques or any of those other kind of I'm sure they'll still have that stuff. Maybe Linux on it. Maybe no, But I'm curious about you know, like I wonder if you're gonna be able to use the touchpad to navigate the PS four interface stuff like that. You know, you can't have launch scud missiles there you go. Probably could you fold at home? Yeah? Maybe, I hope so can you? Was there anything you use the touch pad form and your demo in your time at the PS four there's something can kill zone? Okay, but you can't talk about it. But okay, you just did great. We got to burn this whole podcast, stick it inside of turch. I'm sure that stuff's been shown off before. It's just some basic menu stuff stops. It's all ruined. Now what else did you do with your time in terms video games antas in terms of video games. No, just taking I was just taking the mental taking them off my catalog of a moment stuff that I've done, watching the watch the movies and stuff. But I saw this is the end. Oh it's fantastic. Sounds uplifting, but it's really good. Oh it's that's uh it's it's that comedy where a bunch of dudes are stuck at James Franco's house when the end of the world occurs. It's like, really, actually James Franco's house or care I doubt it's really his. I mean, they're all playing themselves. It's it's Jonah Hill, Seth Rogan, Jay Barrishell. I've heard good things about it, Jona Hill, Jay Barrishell, Craig Robinson, I think, and then then Danny McBride did you get fucking hysterical? It's it's really good funny movie. Yeah, uh yeah. I highly recommend it on like iTunes or I rented it on iTunes. It was the first thing I have ever rented on iTunes. How was that as seamless as it could possibly be? Oh yeah, you do it off the like an Apple TV. Yeah yeah, excuse an Apple TV just like you. It looks super nice too. Yeah, it's there there. Their stuff is from a really nice high bit rate looks great. Yeah, it's five bucks for twenty four hour bring it back, ye, take it back to the store. I mean it was weird, like a a kind. Right before I did it, I like I stopped for a second, and I was like, I pay eight bucks a month for all of Netflix, is it really worth five dollars for this one movie? But then I was like, wait a minute backwards, it would cost at least double that for one person to go to the theater and see this movie. So five bucks is actually a steal. Interesting. Yeah, it's like you're turning that around. Uh did you do anything with video games? Yeah? The other thing I want to talk about was Stanley Parable. Talk about it, but you also preach church. You want to just any what have you been playing Stanley Parable? Yeah? What's that? I don't want to talk about? Damn it. Uh. Stanley Parable is this game where you play as a Stanley and you're kind of this sets up the world where Stanley is in an office and the off this is empty. Now walk around and the hook is you've got this narrator kind of dictating what not only what you're doing, but kind of like what you could do in story. So like it'll be like Stanley got up and got out of his office, and then it's like if you don't get out of your office, they'll be like, bod he decided not to get out of his office. Yeah, it's all just like Stanley came to two doors and went through the left one, and then you walk through the right one, and he's like, well, Stanley was actually very bad at following directions. So that's kind of the setup for the Stanley Parable. Beyond that, I don't really know how much more we should talk talk about, because that the whole game is kind of discovery of how you can break the systems or or kind of listen or not listen to the direction. Yeah, it's it's super clever, Like a lot of writing is really funny. If you play a lot of games, especially, you'll get a kick out of it because it's very fourth walled kind of stuff, very creative. So I played it for like forty five minutes on Saturday, Like you can finish that game in five minutes or not. Like there's a bunch of different things. I think, yeah, there's a bunch of different endings. But even like the ending or you know this, don't even know that is the kind of critical path, Like there's so there's actually a part of the game you can stumble onto that's sort of like a museum of the Stanley Parable. It's got a bunch of like displays about the development of the game, which is like as self referential as it could possibly get because you're still Stanley, like viewing all this information about how they made the game starring Stanley, but there is definitely like an ending or a scenario that they consider kind of the main through line of the game, and then all the other stuff is off to the side of it. I forgot what I was gonna say about that. Oh so yeah, So I played it for like forty five minutes on Front on Saturday. I got through the game like three times, kind of through that main course and saw a little bit of the other stuff, and I was like, this is cool, but it's not as kind of free wheeling and inventive as I thought people had made it out to be. And then I saw a post on Kotaku this morning about a mini game that you can find in there and play. Not only is there a mini game there, but then they had posted a video of what happens if you play the mini game NonStop for four hours, which and results in something else. And I stopped for a second, and I was like, I don't think I was approaching this game the right way. So I jumped back into it, and I think what's awesome about that game is that they don't beat you over the head with all of the really clever stuff off to the side that you could be doing. Yeah, like did you have that experience? Yes, like you have to. So I was going to disagree with you about and one and done. Oh no no, Yeah, Like I like they they kind of want you to like really think about with the ways to access the other stuff. Like I got exhausted playing that game because I felt like, my God, could I just sit here forever shuffling the deck on this scenario? Right? Just keep I never heard a point where I was like, uh, doing the same thing twice? Yeah, and I just got mentally, yeah, you're gonna run out right, Like yeah, you just but you you really have to stop in each scenario, each area and like look around and like kind of think about. Like my wife hated it. Yeah, look, she was like, just go He's saying, go left, just go left. I don't try the doors, just go left. And they're like, then he went upstairs. Why are you going downstairs? Go up there? He said, go upstairs? And yeah, so she that got me through the critical path, yeah, or the one that they kind of push you along, right, But she really enjoyed it. She there was because the narrator was calling out stuff that I was doing that she was echoing, echoing, like you know, he tried all the doors but there was nothing to do here, and she's like, yeah, just go like he said, but I would, I just want to mess around the time. Well, it's it's weird because your ability to interact with the environment is so limited, you know, like there's no jump and that's just like there's just a use there's basically a use button and that's it. Like there are some there are some cases where you could like get too part of the level design that doesn't look like you should be able to access, but you actually can if you just kind of think about it a little unconfessionally. You can crouch, Yeah, like the you can crouch. But this sounds like the kind of game that would drive you insane, like too many possible. I mean, you know there there's there's certainly a finite number of sure like the paths you can take, you know, then you can see everything. His completionist type, you know, attitude towards games, but just but like like for instance, like for instance, like I I intentionally didn't look at the achievements because I didn't want it to like leave me by the hand toward anything. You can they start turned off on the on my game, and you turn them on, do they But I got one anyway, I don't know that's because I turned them on. I think I got I got an achievement for turning them on. That's yeah. But but then, uh, well, I don't want to ruin the joke, but I think it's just that one achievement, Like the wording is in the menu, the wording is just achievement and it's enabled disabled, And in the Steam achievements there's an achievement called achievement. Yeah, and when you enable achievement, the achievement achievement pops up. That's yeah. But I don't think that doesn't have any bearing on the others. Okay, it's just a one off joke because I did get others. Yeah well yeah, so, but the thing I was gonna say was like, you actually kind of do yourself a disservice by not looking at those because they even the like the text, like the wording of the achievement descriptions is kind of there to subvert your expectations about what they do, so attempting some of the things described in those achievements actually leads to like crazier stuff than you would expect it to. Interesting, you know what I mean. So like you definitely get in there and look at that stuff and try that stuff out and like kind of part of the game. Yeah, sort of like every time it sort of like extends its hand to you and it's like, hey, come with me this way. You should totally do it. You know. Did any of you guys play the original Source Mode? So I did, And I'm not sure if this is like a remake. It's it's kind of a quasi remake, but it's also like like way we're expanded out. I think what my understanding is there's a lot more I love that there's a lot more content built around that kind of core idea, is my understanding. Yeah, I really from what I played, I really enjoyed it. I'll probably jump back into it. Yeah, I'm not done trying to ring everything out of it yet either, But there were stuff that was building, Like, yeah, there there are like it's not just like random random random, there's like stuff that stacks on your experiences. I thought that was really cool. Yeah, kind of tough to talk about. I don't want to give too much away because I feel like the fun isn't discovering that. Yeah, I want to go get the demo too, because I guess the demo is also totally different content. Really Yeah, geez, it's like the special specially made stuff for the demo. I actually I wish I had sat down and played it at Packs because the Packs demo is also unique. Yeah, Like the Packs demo is all like Packs specifics, a lot of voice over probably apparently even the trailer they made for it, like incorporated. Like at one point they put out a call to the community and said, like, hey, send the narrator of the Spirit, Stanley parable some emails asking him questions and like some of that stuff shows up in the behind the scenes where they incorporated this stuff. It's it's what it's like fifteen bucks or something. Yeah, I think that's right. Yeah, it's doing really well. I think it's it's a cool little experience they sold. They sold over one hundred thousand units in the first like unit. A couple of days, they they're shifting units many Pudding Channel like it is. It's done extremely well for them. Do you think Steam or Xbox Live has had a bigger impact on like independent games like that Steam? Yeah, sure, like maybe xbla earlier on Sure, I agree, I think Steam, although I guess Steam maybe seems like it's kind of gotten weird and elitist in a exclusion, are in away with the green light stuff, you know where you know, kind of the games that can rally more support from a fan base have a better chance of getting on there. Now. It's not it's not like just anybody can go put their game on Steam. I don't know. I feel there are a lot of feel like there was a couple of big our summer arcade, you know things on Xbox Live and then and then are you asking about any games? Are downloadable games indie like the smaller type of stuff, Well, those aren't necessarily the same concept though, Like a lot of the downloadable games that came out early on from big, big companies, big big team are not necessarily big teams, but big names. I guess I tend to always group them together into like small type fifteen dollars games. Maybe maybe that's the I mean, this is because these guys, this is fifteen I'm indy. Yeah, I'm not even wearing pants. I'm independent. I mean, this is two dudes and you know, some some help from like level design and voice actors and stuff. Like one of these guys, I guess was a pack some forcer before he made this game. Like this is definitely grassroots in a way that something like a Shadow Complex was not. Uh, you're an elitist? What yeah? I said it. Okay, you guys want to move on to the news of the week. How do you guys feel about that? I want to take a poll. He wants to do news. O, I'll do news. Okay, good, that's you win. All right. I'm gonna try and I'm gonna try and get a hold of Patrick Clippic here for our news segment. I guess is there still news music? I don't. Let's play this song? I don't. Okay, all right, that's the news music. And now we have summoned a Patrick Clippic. Hi. Patrick, Oh, hello there? That's great. What kind of microphone when you're using the blue snowball, it's like fifty dollars? You sound great. You're over in Chicago, that's what they tell me. Let's talk about your Ted talk your ted X talk. Yeah, I hope I made that clear when I was talking about doing that, because there was a there's a big difference between like a TED talk and a ted X talk. They jj Abrams does not do a ted X talk. What does jj Abrams do? He does a TED talk Hookers, jj Abrams does TED talks. Yeah, so what he still he still has to pay to go. I was reading an interview where even though like Ted is this big deal and like, you know, j Abrams seems like the kind of guy that you would just like fly out and let him do what he wants, he still had to pay something like thousands of dollars just to go and give his talk. I'm sure he felt it. Sure he was hurt. So what was your ted X talk about? I think it's just kind of interesting that I don't want to choot Patrick's horn here, but I think it's kind of cool to do a ted X talk and I want to choot Patrick's horn. Yeah, Patricks, So what was your ted X talk about? Like? These days? Like it started from that article I wrote about Phil Fish and how he sort of quit making FEZ two and got off the internet. In a lot of ways, he still is on Talking Private Leader Friends, but he definitely kind of quit in a in a bit of a public tantrum. And when I wrote about that and sort of the disconnect between sort of the ether when people talk about people on the internet, we sort of quickly forget that there are people on the other end of that line, and the fact that I've lived through a lot of that stuff and then have tried different ways over the years to try and curb some of the jerks they get under my skin, and then also you know, being cognizant of the fact that I also am totally a jerk sometimes because I think it's completely natural to let people get under your skin, especially with some of the more insidious ways people have tried to do that to me and all of us probably over the years. And so I tried to figure out I thought there was something about that that made sense given the fact that these days, I think everyone is sort of a public figure in the sense that no one really controls their their privacy settings in a way that they probably should, and people on Twitter are basically completely public all the time, even though they think they're just talking to their friends and their family. And given that it seemed like there were probably some lessons that I learned on a daily basis that maybe could be passed on to a large audience. So I tried to condense that down into eighteen minutes. Unfortunately got to be the last speaker, so I said, fuck it, I'll just go for nineteen and a half. Ted X shutting it down. So you got up there, I watched you can watch this on YouTube, and how do you find it? What's the best way to search for it? If you if you just start for a Ted X Patrick Luppick. I suppose at some point TED could pull a copyright claim on it, because like there's a very specific process for TED stuff, Like I was told, like it's so specific that at some point in my talk, I had written down in my draft that I just said the word TED, and I was told, make sure you say ted X, because if you say TED, there is a ted X YouTube channel and then a TED YouTube channel, because they definitely they try to make sure that there is a sort of qualitative difference between the two. So they recorded a high quality version of it at the at the event that we'll get put together at some point, but at least from now and now there's been so many views it's it's almost at like twenty thousand or something like that. So my guesses they'll probably just leave it alone. But but but you can, as of right now just go to YouTube and search for it and it'll come up. You could have been on TED. Yeah, well it might. Well, so here's the thing, so it still might show up there. So they float that stuff up. I guess I can cross my fingers and hope that it gets up there. But part of the thing that's weird about that is that it's completely out of my hands because a lot of that is actually down to sheer production value. So that's that's what I was hearing, was that you could give a really phenomenal talk, but if like the a V is bad and the video is bad, they're yeah, they won't put that up stuff. Did you have a teleprompter? No? No, I did not. Yeah, you were. You were doing a great job spitting game up there, and you did how many rehearsals, Well, we did one proper rehearsal. Or I was like actually on stage and had a sense of what the room was and and like I've never walked around on a stage before, and I don't know how you do that. I just made it up. Yeah, But I mean I was practicing every night for probably two weeks. At some point, I just yeah, at some point, I just like, I imagine this is you know, this is like anything else. I'm sure, uh, you know anyone that's written a review or you guys, when you edit a video, like at some point you're happy with it, but you know you could keep fucking with it, but you just kind of have to move on. And with my talk, you know, everyone I talked to that does public speaking always said it's half performance, half content, and you could write the speech in the world, but if you deliver it really wouldn't if you just go up there and speak it like you wrote it the night before, you know, you might as well just put it in a blog post. So so I spent like half my time, and that's why I spent like two weeks, you know, I was you know, it was only rehearsing it once a night, so it was only like, you know, twenty minutes. But I wanted to get it down so that I could go on stage and not worry about what I had to say next and just kind of focus on and actually saying, and the problem is I got and this speaks to you know, I mean the people that put together this event, you know, as as as different it is from like a proper ted event, like worked their ass off and were new to doing this stuff. So you know, all the weird quirks that came up were not the result of people that weren't trying hard. But so I gave my power points to them, and during rehearsal, you could see the next power Point slide on like the monitor that was going to be on stage. And I thought that was really useful because if I thought, well, if I panic up on stage and I forget what my next bit is, I have designed myse slides to be visually representative of the next topic without giving it away to the crowd what it actually is. Except that they changed computers the next day and that version of power Point did not have the next slide that was coming up. And I didn't know that until I got on stage, Like literally I went up to like click click the power Point and went, oh, I don't know what the next one is anymore. Okay, how long do you think that it took you to get over that or did it take it all in time. You just can't. I mean, you just you just you don't have time to get over it. You know that. That That's where having done the speech like twenty or thirty times like allowed me to just say screw it. You know, I've done it enough times, And I tried to craft the speech to me modular, like the idea being I can give the talk, like there's an order that makes the most sense, and there isn't a point in the speech where I can't kind of can't go back in the order that I wrote it, but like the first two thirds I could things around, so there actually is, Yeah, there's there's I mean there's a bit in there where I repeat a sentence twice, and I repeat it twice because halfway through saying it the first time, I realized I'd skip two paragraphs of my speech, and so then I was able to just like slop that in and move on. But yeah, it was It was a really interesting experience because like people hate TED talks. Like people hate Ted talks, I've discovered that people are very cynical about them. There's very negative about them. But this is awesome. I saw some of that floating around it seemed like that happened overnight, because I remember not that long ago when everybody thought TED was like the best thing. Yeah, And I tried to identify that when I was writing it, and I what I concluded was that if you watch enough of them, not just like you know, watching one that floats up as a really popular one, is that they are often way too idealistic to and thus are unrealistic in terms of any sort of practical change. So you know, if if you watch a talk or two and it's just really inspirational, and maybe it doesn't make a difference in your life, but it just makes you feel really good, like that only works so many times. And the other end of that spectrum is is talks that are very specific about one person's accomplishments or sort of life path or something that happened to them that while it may be interesting, you know, doesn't again, isn't any sort of practical use to someone if they walk out the door after seeing it or watch a play video. Yeah, so so I I you know, I tried to keep that. I tried to write a TED talk to people that hate TED talks would still like and I turned on all my privacy settings well, Patrick, Ted Talk and Ted X talk and Patrick, we're glad to have you. And are you ready to play what we're calling the news game? Brad? Do you want to tell the audience too? Patrick playing for? Oh, he's playing for Yeah, but it's the caller at home. I feel like we're doing an MPR segment here with Patrick on the line. Patrick, one of these news stories is real, the other two are fake. We've got I was gonna say that my wife just act to San Francisco and somehow you have taken her hostage, and I was playing, we don't go that dark, but sure, I want to put Patrick's wife on the line and let him know she's okay. We're holding a newspaper up Patrick. We'll find out if he wins. You said us a bunch of news stories. Let's kind of rifle down these pretty quickly. No Turtle Beach in headsets on Xbox One at launch. Yeah. I think the more interesting bit out of there is actually that the headset adapter got delayed. You know what I saw that that headline? But which headset are we talking about? What is the adapter for? It's so you can use Let's see does it is it old, like three sixty headsets. No, it's just it's like I think it has to do with like third party ones. So you know, you can't use the third party ones because they require an adapter, you know. I mean, it's it's just it's just that alongside Like there's another story that I sent Vinny about how you can't do real name ideas at launch. What does that mean? Well, you were going to be allowed to have your real name. You can have a nickname but then also a real name separately. They don't have to be one and the same thing, and that's not happening. But you can basically display your real name like Facebook or something. Yeah. Yeah, frank me if I'm wrong. And they did finally cave and decided to put the basic wired headset in the box, right I think? So yeah, okay, and that plugs into the controller. I just kind of I believe that's the case. Yeah. Are they not going to do that? Yeah? Yeah. They originally were saying that thing was gonna be separate, which is crazy because I was like one of the best things they did with the first console. Yeah. Uh, And there's no as far as we know, no analog outs on either console. Right, Yeah, that's correct. So no, just left right audio. You're either BHMI or toss link. Okay, all right, we've got another news story here. Brad touched on it before Flower Flow, Sound Shapes, Escape Plan coming to PS four in November. Use are launch I think so. Yeah, that's cool. That's a big confirmation from Patch. I think that's stuff school just because it it actually adds very little but says a lot, just in the sense that probably most people won't play any of those, or they'll like, I'll download flower and just look at it. Yeah, like I said, I saw it at that event and it does look noticeably better. Yeah, but it makes it just makes you feel better in the sense that they are not backwards compatible, but at least Sony is putting in some small engineering effort to make you feel better about like your old purchases. Even if they've picked kind of games that you once you've played once you probably wouldn't go back to, so you'll get those if you own them. On PS three they're all cross Okay, that's awesome. H let's keep moving on here. Carmack new Oculus Riff dev kit incoming. What what do what does that mean? I don't know. I'll tell you what it means. Everybody's getting a free Oculus rift packed in with the PS four. Does it have news works quote me on the set it. I think that makes it true. Yeah, uh so a new new dev kid. Do you know anything about the details of it or is he just kind of spitting game? Now? Yeah, he was just spitting game, But he's actually contradicting what they had said in the past, which was that they weren't going to do another dev kit before the retail the retail one. But my guess is that based on the folks I've talked to that have used that ten ADP version, like the difference is so profound that I think it could influence like design choices. Well, it's that plus the head tracking, which is pretty poor on the current DevKit. You get used to it, and you can accustomed to it pretty quickly, but you know, if you're actually making a game, I think having to accommodate that for that is pretty crazy because I think once it's one to one, it's actually going to change how people sort of like lay out their aesthetic. It was interesting talking to those guys at E three when they had that tend prototype that I tried, because yeah, like the screens are just one of the many things that they're actually trying to improve in that thing, And at that time they had he said, they had like a ton of prototypes, but in each one of them, like only one of those things was better, you know, like they hadn't they had managed to roll all of those improvements you want into a single headset at that point. So I wonder how hard they've come with that stuff. Patrick, You've been messing around with Oculus rift your impressions. It's awesome, Like it's it's it's just as much fun as I was hoping it is. I mean, I it's like I wrote in that article like a week and a half ago. Though, like some stuff like those fucking horror games man like Third I don't think most people are gonna want to play that stuff. My brother just tore the headset off and threw it on the ground like it was not He was like, this isn't fun, Like this is nothing about this is enjoyable, and you want to put that on the back of the box. Have you have you tried any kind of like big over your headphones, like just going for like a total kind of sensory immersion. Yeah, I mean that's that's that's how I do the like the the spookum of scoops over games as I put those headphones on. And that's and that's where that stuff gets really crazy, is because and it's especially true of the horror stuff, just because you know, those games are designed to be very oppressive and and dark, and once you have the headphones on, there's really no sense of the outside world. And that's really what makes it so crazy. Yeah, and they start fucking with you in some in some really crazy ways in some of those games. I like this game dread Halls, which is it's a game that's got a map and you have to look down at the map by actually pointing your head down. And as far as I can tell, and so so the setup of the game is that you're going through this dungeon and you have a lamp. You know, like a lot of like sort of me too horror games these days, and but the lamp will lets you see very little in front of you, and to know what where to get to the exit, you constantly have to be referencing the map. But from what I can tell, the game is acutely aware of when you look down, and then we'll start changing the things in front of you after you've put your head down, so you'll see like a statue of the corner, look down and then look back up and that that statue will have shifted. So that's one of the crazy things about some of those games is once the scares start and like you're running away, like you don't have a real sense of like you can look to your laughter, looked your right, and you know, just see that you're in a living room. Like all you just see is more the crazy environment than you're in. But yeah, I'm once you I guess once you've tried that ten ADP one, it's really hard to try the old one. Patrick. What Caine tell me about two K two Came Marian, to be specific, it sucks. It sounds like they all got laid off. And from my understanding, a lot of that, a lot of that studio's troubles from people that I've talked to that work there in the past, what had much more to do with management than it had to do with the studio itself. It sounds like two Came Marian had a crazy amount of super talented people that they've hemorrhaged over the years, and even the people that were still there could have done something really great. But if you go back to like the original press releases about that studio, they were designed to do original ip and and instead they were tasked with BioShock two, which I think is far better than people give it credit for. Given that is called BioShock two, which is basically, hey, make something that as completely unrealistic expectations with its original creative lead not in charge and XCOM the bureau, which from everything I've heard, and there's there's a really great probably gone feature about the game's development, but it sounds like, you know, management basically completely screwed that project over to that game's all right, yeah, but it wasn't think it's great. It was very troubled development though. You know, look how long it's hell yea many times they restarted it and all that stuff. It's it's yeah, that sucks. Never good to hear about that. They are they actually announcing closures or are they just saying they're the studio another studio is effectively done? Right, Yeah, the studio is pretty much done. But the flip side of that is it sounds like uh. Rod Ferguson's New Bay Area studio is basically two camer in two point zero, So they're soaking up a bunch of talent people. Yeah, it sounds like and it sounds like a lot of people are it's I mean, essentially they're interviewing people or have been to go over there, and then whoever's uh doesn't go over there, it doesn't want to. We'll we'll have to try and find something else. But it does sound like they're trying to move them over to whatever news thing is. And then the big news I think for this week the kind of most obvious want on the delays on Ubisoft's properties and what that means for the launch of the PS four. So we have Watchdogs being delayed, we have the Crew being delayed, and then Drive Club also announced being delayed. Right, Club being any game being Sony's joint Patrick, what is my question is for Drive Club what does that mean for their offerings on the PlayStation Plus stuff? That was one of the hey you get the special edition a Drive Club if you get PlayStation Plus. What is are they compensating people on PlayStation Plus they slot something else in there? Yeah, they can't. They did they did. They gave some people something else. It's contrast. Yes, it's a game. They showed a D three. If you remember, there's involves a lot of like shadow stuff and kind of black and white. I do you remember seeing that. I'm not sure. Yes, I'm not sure if it's more of an action or a puzzle game, but you'll get the whole thing, so that that is being added to Yeah, to reser. Going as far as PlayStation Plus freebies on day one, the something I wanted to clarify that I haven't seen belled out anywhere, but at E three when they said Drive Club would be available for free, they called it Drive Club PS Plus Edition, And my understanding was that was just kind of a limited subset of what the full retail Drive Club was going to be. But since this happened, since this delay happened, I've seen everybody talking about how it was just going to be You're going to get drive Club for free. Like did that change or isn't I don't think so, that's my understanding was, like, is what you said is that it was some you know, basically a demo plus right, Like yeah, like seeing what a lot of people have been talking about on forums and stuff. Some people were sort of looking at this as if they had lost an entire free game at launch, which I don't think was ever going to be the case. So I don't think they ever said exactly what it was. They just said it was like a not a demo, not the full game, right, But I don't think they ever said like kind of similar to like the g T prologue or something. So Patrick, you've got your PS four on pre order, right, I do, although increasingly I wonder why, so why? Because I feel like it's part of my job. If you strip away that part, then I wouldn't be buying either of these machines, like I. You'd wait for launch and then wait for the games to come. I'd buy a new GPU and a new TV instead. But you know, you know, it's one of those things that I want to be a part of, and you know I'll be writing stories about so I feel professionally and obligated to to be a part of it. But if you remove that part, I mean, you know, I'd rather buy a new iPad or a new GPU and and something like that. I don't. I don't think there are a lot of compelling reasons to Day one jump in Day one. Other than wanting to be part of the frenzy, which is, you know, if you're a big video game person, like that is a lot of the fun is being part of part of the frenzy. But if you can separate yourself from that, i'd I mean increasingly those launch lineups, while not bad, even even Killzone looks like it might be pretty fun. As someone that's become disenchanted with that franchise, I'm like adding up to a thousand dollars worth of stuff to buy two machines, like at least at least get a new TV instead. The I didn't realize how much I was pinning, and it's kind of specifically PlayStation four because that's what I had decided to get Watchdogs on instead of Xbox One. But pinning my hopes of the launch and my excitement for that on that one title, like once that wasch Yeah, once Watchdogs was taken off the list, it just took the wind right out of my sales. I've heard that from a lot of people specifically about that game on the PS four, and I had been teetering. I'd been teetering well because PS four was getting kind of unique content from watching and they were selling, and they were selling like a bundle bundle with the game, and you know, I'd been teetering for PC for Watch Dogs or PlayStation four, and I had kind of decided, I'm gonna go out the PS four. It's gonna get some unique content, like let's see what you got PS. It's pretty pretty stiff requirements on on the PC, I think, And now that now that that's gone, I kind of find myself in the same boat where it's like, I don't know what I'm gonna do on launch days. You know, am I gonna buy Kills One? I feel like on the Xbox One with forts, there's a little bit more of a you know, kind of first party offering there. Rising Yeah, it has some potential I found on the PS four, not as much for me, I would The crew seemed kind of cool. Uh it's Barman that's getting pushed back, but it's really Watched Dogs, and yeah, I don't know, it's you know, launches are hit and miss. Uh, this is a really expensive one if you're if you're thinking about getting in on both consoles, Like we just talked about a thousand dollars kind of to get in the game, and then you're talking about extra controllers and games and stuff like that. Uh, it's it's a tough proposition. How are you going to Well, I guess the first question I should ask is are you going to play asass Screet four? Am I? Or Patrick? You? Uh? Yes? So would you? Okay? Well, if it's at some point, would you be willing to wait the three weeks and just play it on PS four? Yes? Okay, Well that might not be the worst option. Then it depends how good that game is. Yeah, yeah, that remains to be seen. But assuming you know they kind of right the wrongs of three and the game itself turns out to be pretty good, I'll play it on the PC and I'll let you know that. Yeah. I mean you'll definitely know by that time. But you know, like that, that's probably not the worst thing, like if you want kind of a ten pole game to play on your console. But so here's probably the worse than that. Here's what it comes up for me for Assassin's Screen. Like, the game itself hopefully is good, right regardless platform agnostic, Hopefully it's a good game. But I really want a game that says, hey, Welcome to the next generation, like, welcome to this is a PlayStation four game, this is unique to or Xbox one game, this is this is why you bought this four hundred dollars system, Like you kind of you don't want to know that it's also out on the old machines. That was essentially compromise, right, Yeah, I totally understand, like there's no way to know for sure that happens. And I feel like Watchdogs was something where I was like, yeah, we're kind of gonna lead on these next gen ones. But whereas AC I don't know, like maybe you had to split the difference to being install based that's currently out there. But I did feel like Watchdogs was something that just looked next gen to me, that just said, like, here we go, welcome sit down on launch day, play this thing half fun. You just bought this awesome console, Get half fun with it. It is gonna be. It is gonna be weird with a C four because it's not far off. It's like what next week, next Tuesday. Yeah, like it's gonna be weird. Haven't heard right, It's gonna be. We're having that ship on current gen consoles, And like, I don't know exactly how Ubisoft allowing people to cover that or what versions they're seeing, but like not not necessarily knowing what it's gonna be like on the next gen and whether you should wait or not. You know, and we'll see. I guess that'll be interesting too. Some of that crossover stuff will be interesting to see what the big difference is, you know. And but man, yeah, that watch Duck stuff kind of a heartbreaker. They get rid of the underscore. I don't think we're done with that. I think we did in our database, so I don't Yes, uh so, Patrick, you have some other Kickstarter stuff here? You want to talk about it at all? Not really right, I mean, like I mean, man, sure, I guess. I mean it's not gonna happen. You look at that Kickstarter Well, man, I just gave it a bump booger man take that. Yeah, but then you still have to give your money waiting influence the news news man, Yeah, insider trading speaking a Kickstarter. I wish I knew more. Maybe you know more, Patrick, about this this kind of minor fiasco that happened around dark Matter on Steam. Yeah. I was looking at that this morning. It's it's a so so, yeah, this game, Dark Matter came out on Steam and it was a game that failed to raise its money on Kickstarter but came out anyway, and when people bought it, and I assume people are upset because it must be at least a decent game. I don't know why it's cool like, so, I was only aware of it because I was looking at new releases on Steam last week looking for quick look material, and it's like it's a kind of a scias sci fi metroid Vania. It's totally that kind of you know, shadow complexity game. Yeah, but I guess if you play it, it's about four hours long and then sets up with an extreme cliffhanger, even though the game is not marketed as episodic, and I thought at first that was that was reason enough too. I guess be sort of reasonably upset that maybe there was, you know, either not deliberately false advertising, then maybe you know, they should have clarified that to people knew what they were getting into. But it's not like you have like a final boss fight or like a big moment, and then as a cliffhanger, it's literally you're walking down a hallway in the game just basically says we ran out of money. We're sorry. My understanding was that it had at one point had been built as a much longer game than it is. Yeah. I didn't see like a product page that said, oh, it's fifteen hours or whatever. But people people made it sound like they had given the impression that it was actually a complete game when it's not. Yeah, it was between that and then the weird stuff would happen with that. I don't even know what the game is called, but the game that you know. The YouTube personality Total Biscuit had the copyright claim made on his video which showed the game in a didn't purpose shown the game in negative light. He just did a video and had an opinion. And the content creator Gosh wild something studio. I don't know, but anyway, the it doesn't matter what the game is. In fact, you shouldn't give it any promotion for how crappy the studio act. But they essentially Total Biscuit put up a video, they didn't like it, and they used the fact that YouTube has to cater to content creators uh making a content claim or a copyright claim because they have to be proactive about that. In terms of the copyright holders and the video came down and that is so filthy. But then he put up he put up all the stuff that said he had permission, like correspondence that said he had permission from the people from the studio right to do this video, and actually made a video putting up those emails and stuff that was like, but in all this permission and now I think the video is back up? Oh really yeah, Well it's so so it got into like a big semantic argument where the emails were you can do a video on it, but technically the emails didn't give the permission to monetize. So that's, you know, this big thing that's happening on YouTube. Nintendo has made a big stink about it, Others have made a big stink about it, and more companies are going to make this a problem, going a lot of big stinks. All that meaning means, obviously, is that they don't don't want you to sell ads, right. They were using that as the leverage or justification for the copyright claim, even though you know, you could do a quick you know, YouTube search, and there were tons of other videos about the game. They're doing the exact same thing. But I mean it's like, you know, Total Biscuit pointed out that, you know, whatever you think of a guy like YouTube is stacked against content creators with this stuff because if you get three copyright claims made against you, they just delete your account. O. God, this this, this just brings me back to Screen, Like what a headache that was, you know, like the whole reason why we have the like published to YouTube checkmark in the video cms, you know, the gratu we do one more, we get this channel can. At one point I had a text document it was just open all the time in my computer that said footage used in editorial capacity that I would just copy and paste into the complaint field. Yeah, you know, YouTube has to walk a line, you know, and that stuff is gonna get stickier and stickier. I think as people realize or try to find a way to make money on both ends that or you have to be big enough that you can withstand like the copyright claims. You know, I think probably I think Giant Bomb and Screen probably got a tougher time than probably what I'm just gonna say it. But like ign or gay Spot do you know, definitely no argument, like you you can shrug some of that stuff off, right, But yeah, that stuff is. That stuff is weird and sucks, and it's going to be I think, even tougher as we move forward. Sure, well, there's a there's a funny anecdote to that, which is that when Alex and I were starting the Morning show and we were going to use the Google hangouts just because it was easier for archiving and it did automatic editing. You know, I was like, while I use the Giant Bomb YouTube account because it does the automatic archiving and then that just takes you know, it'll be up really fast while the one through the cite processes. But because of Giant Bomb's history with like content h copyright issues, it won't even allow us to use the Google Hangout stuff on that account. So it just straight up denied me from using it, which is why I have to use my personal account with that. I mean, he was like, oh, here, you can get in touch with us to resolve it, and I was like, and it's a lot of upkeep. I think when Rory joined it back on, like he went into our YouTube and I account was like, hey, who's been looking at this ground? And you know, he had so many like you know, messages they just like copyright claim. You know, you just have to go through them all and you know, do the whole form. But like that, stuff stacks up real quick. Just don't do video. Stop doing video. Everything should just be an open Google docs typing. What you think? Here's what I'm doing. What do you guys think? I'm playing Beyond right now? You're your Twitter competitor. Yeah, check my Google docs I'm doing. There's my status. I was just about to go play some Citadels. Do you guys think? No? Okay, I forget it now I'm playing Beyond. What do you guys think of that? That's cool? Yeah, well the phoe is creepy. All right, Patrick, I'm gonna cut you off. Here. You can catch Patrick at all your ten X events, for your ten ex events, birthday parties, bar mitzvas and anything else. Thanks for joining us, Patrick, Thanks for the news, and we'll see you on the news at the news nailed on the pages. You've got a morning show, thanks Patrick. Okay, see, yeah, that's cool. That was great because we only had one news item, which was the delays, So I'm glad we didn't talk about that Blizzard game. But oh well, what is that know they're not really huge. Newss of Heroes of the Storm is the actual new name of Blizzard All Stars, which used to be called Blizzard Doda Storm Man, it's doomed, I know. Yeah, like you just just Storm in the title, not memory. Yep, yep, you're you're playing a real dangerous game putting storm in your title. Are you gonna check that out? Of course you will. I absolutely want to see it. Is there anything out there of it? No, it was This was an animated little skin kind of thing that they used to announce the name. One would assume, you know, blizz CON's coming up soon, so it'll probably be showing more of it. Well, let's talk about it. We're kind of we're starting to run long here, so let's uh, let's talk about Storm, Heroes of New of News Blizzard later. Let's take it into emails. Emails, Okay, that's good enough. You can any time you want email Alexis. We can write an email and direct translation this one. This is not an email question. This is an email story about somebody's car getting broken into. I'm gonna read here. This comes from austin the city. No the person okay, so no first name Steve uh, this car is broken into three times and broken into three times. I was living in Memphis at the time, and my car had one of the CD players with a detachable face plates on it. You know, the ones that don't work unless the face plate is attached. Guys with me. Yet one day I go out to my car and the window was shattered and the faceplate of my CD player was stolen. Needless to say, I was upset. I put a plastic garbage bag over the driver's side window. Good move. I didn't think much of it. Pass Forward to the next day, walk out to my car, and now the passenger side window was busted and they stole the actual CD player. Oh why did you this? Go ripo Furious and now that I had broken two windows, I didn't bother putting the plastic bag on the passenger side and then took down the driver's side. Pass forward to the next day. My passenger side back window was broken into and the remote for the CD player was taken out of the front center console. I should mention I was living above a meth maker dealer at the time. Thanks Austin, Oh my god, that is uh some didn't you just have your truck broken into yeah a few weeks ago. So there you go, counter blessings. You were lucky. I really was. Boy oh boy. I hate to laugh, but that is just it's just cosmically hilarious at that point. It just sounds like somebody's just at out to get them. Yeah, Like, well just now, I just fucking with those speakers, right, question for everybody. When you meet people for the first time and tell them you talk about video games on the internet, has their reaction to this changed over the years. Who's it from? Uh? This is from Max in Redwood City. So we've gotten this question before, like what are people's reactions? But I don't think we've ever talked about the changing of their reactions over time. I feel like mine has. When like when I people don't assume I make video games as much anymore, which used to be the kind of like, oh, yeah, you make video games. I started to say it in such a way that they don't assume that anymore because that got obnoxious. Brad, I kind of went the other direction at one point when I didn't feel like or didn't have time to properly explain what it was, I just said, like I work on the internet. Work on a website, I'll talk about video games anymore dot com stuff. I mean, if it's you know, if it's somebody like you meet on the bus and you're never gonna talk to you again. Yeah, Like, I just don't go into detail because it's because it's, like you said, people do lengthy explanation. Yes, it does take some effort to really make people understand. But I do think the acceptance of being able to report on video games has made that a lot easier. Okay, I talk about video games and what's coming up. Usually if you say reviews, like that's something that people can immediately get sure. Alexis, Well, it doesn't come up for me as much, right, But I think I've told you guys before, like definitely in the dating scene, it's a little funny. Okay, let's play here, sitting we're at a bar, and I like, I am the prettiest lady. You know, you're you're me, Okay, I'm the girl, and like, okay, so so I might have seen your feet, your name up on YouTube or something. You were looking for my name. Yeah, I just you know, doing a little research on me. I was interested, you know, I wanted a little more and I saw you on this video game terrorists giant bomb site thing. I don't are you? Do I even know you? This is really weird. Do you play video games? Is that like your job? Are you playing a gamer? You told me you did design, but I saw you like drinking whiskey and playing Halo. I don't know, I don't get it. Is this a joke? Is this? Are you somebody set you up? Who the fuck are you? And why are you looking at me? I had a girl say that exact phrase to me one time that I met at a party really actually was a friend. It was like friends with somebody who I was friends with here again, this one, I was still working in a game spot who was in game spot sales. They were they were friends and like you know, kind of hit it off and it seemed like you're like, yeah, it's going going all right. And then like as we were leaving the party, we're just sort of talking about stuff, and like game spot stuff came up and she all of a sudden she stopped. She was like, are you a gamer? That was the end of it. It was like nothing happened after that, Like that was done. It's either that or just somewhere in there. They just don't, like, do you like playing video games? And I'll be like, yeah, sure, I played, you know, I played some video games, but like, how much, like do you play like two hours a day? You know, at video games your entire life? Yeah, anything else of meaning in your life besides games, And so then basically you just spend the whole rest of the time just trying to say all the other things that you can do, right, I think I got I got hardened to that response back in college because my my major was called Design Media Arts and it wasn't a slash design slash media arts. It was a pipe. It is a vertical slash. That's how nerdy it was. I wasn't nerdy. It was super arts. It was it was art on computers basically. So I was talking with some of my roommates friends. He was a mechanical engineer, and I told him, yeah, I'm in Design Media Arts. Oh no, but what's your real major? Oh so, oh that happens art history, gonna educations. But I was, you know what, I was able to let it roll off my back because my major was awesome. So did they ever say did you design the plants? And plants for zombies. Yes, that was me. Yeah, that was me. I designed the Halo. We got a lot of emails, uh, concerning the Domino's pizza tracker. Apparently the system is for real yo. Yes, so the pizza tracker is for real. The data it receives mannot be accurate. So people are putting data into the pizza tracker from the Domino's end, but it might not be officially represent the state of your pizza. I see. So we got a lot of emails kind of saying like yeah, you know, sometimes it's there's incentive to say we got your pizza out faster than we actually did, or dude, return faster than we did. So I don't know will shenanigans there. Did get a ton of them though pizza came in twelve minutes ago, but we're still making it hit the button anyway. That kind of starting to do that on a Grubhub a lot more now. So they've got like track your order, well, they've got like a text message option and some of them say like track your order and so you'll you'll order your you know, your lonely pizza or whatever and then like you'll get a tax and says like you know, uh, you know, George is coming from you know, from pizza place. He'll be there in ten minutes or he left and you'll get another it'll be there between the hours of you know, eleven forty five and two in the morning and two in the morning. Right, it's actually been halfway decently, okay. And then you get to play that little card game on Grubhub. Right, that's where they give you the three cards and then like everything's turning up Millhouse. Yeah, yeah, here here's in case you're curious, and Drew, I know you are. The standard numbers they shoot for are under three minute load times out the door and under fifteen minutes. Uh and they hit sixty to eighty percent on that uh dot, What do you guys think to deliver one hundred thirty minutes eighty five percent? And I'm sorry, we got it some really Yeah, I like that when it was free pizza and thirty minutes with less or you know that's when they first started, wasn't it like Dominoes was like you get a pizza and thirty minutes with less, where's free? Yes, that was Domino's joke. They gave up on that one. Alexis This one comes in from JD. Do you guys like small penis humor or big penis humor? Better? Which do you tend to use more? This is under to self deprecate or not to self deprecate. I think either one, you're self deprecating as as long as you go extreme on the big penis joke, like I've got a huge penis. Right, I'm very obviously using this joke ironically, I've got a huge penis. It's that's the joke, that's the joke. Is that self deprecating I've got a small penis. Oh, the former was not self deprecating. The latter is I've got a penis. I mean that's just I mean, it wasn't even ever established if you're talking about yourself or somebody else, Right, it's just it's just dick humor. Yeah, So you do you go big or go home? Do you tend to use small, small dick humor or large dick humor? Right? So, I think it's all context, really okay, I don't engage in a lot of that kind of humor, thank you. No, that's not a joke customed to core of around here. You take cuticizes very seriously still laughing better? Right? So is that self deprecating or not? I don't know. Uh, this one comes in from Chris. Uh. Chris says, I'll just start going down here for a bit of background. I work for a company that you could say was third place in the mobile platform scene right now, behind iOS and Android. And uh, he goes to mean, I don't know, he's uh kidding. He goes to a bunch of conferences and he says, Uh, what I've been noting recently is that instead of app developers and publishers talking about how great they are or their games are, a lot of them now come to these conferences and events trying to quote unquote teach other developers the rights and wrongs of how to succeed in the marketplace. This is fine in and of itself, but it tends to lead them using a bunch of silly portmanteaus. I can only assume them wanting to kind of express their teaching using these dumb portmanteaus. I was hoping you'd give me your opinion on these words. I assume these are real. Like where this is going. He's got a list of about five year I hope he's not making them up. That's how you pronounced portmanteau. Portmanteau, Okay, I think, yeah, I get a ruling on that. Yeah, which isn't it is in itself a portmanteau. If I'm not mistaken, tell me if these are actually not that bad, or if these guys should just stop talking forever? Probably answers, Yes, Yes, I'm gonna lead off with someone we'd all heard before, Ed do team it. Yeah, we're all comfortable with that. Education and entertainment. No one's been around advert gaming, Yeah, yeah, advertising and gaming, seen it? Phone and tablet? Fablet, Yeah, what's been used in You've never heard fablet before. It's I mean, it's it's completely ridiculous. You do you you kind of I've had a big fablet or small fablet? Which one is? Which one was more self deprecating. I'm not sure the giant fablet. Really you've heard fabrit Absolutely it sounds terrible. Yeah, it's it's it's sounds like it's daughter. It sounds like something you would have, like a pill that would like, hey, take off that fablet. I think thirty days, I think I think it was just I think It was used in use in the tech press for a hot minute and then quickly went away because God, some of these I don't know how to pronounce hin it this, but it's a tech hot minute at a time. And uh, this one is success and failure. Secalier what Secalier's stupid? That's horrible, sucker ailure still stupid? Super Yeah, that's terrible, So god, I still sucks. This one is physical and digital Figital What fgital would that even describe? Physical and digital media? Do you mean like something that's out on both? Yeah, I suspect the last of us. You know, in the in the Figital domain, you're gonna have You're gonna have a secalere. Oh yeah, our games out in meat space. Uh you know, on the digital side you'll have the fablet end and uh you know the disc end and these things all work together automagically, so secure you're advergaming, stay out of entertainment. That's all he's got. Do you guys have anything to add to this? I love him? Oh man, that mobile space is just man messed up the digital fital the digital mobile space with Fable, I don't know. Head down to the five eye and see what they think. That's five. I don't know that financial district. That was the first joke I ever shared with Patrick Leppick. Yeah, I remember that he loved it. Yeah. Oh, I didn't hear about this. But somebody says, Hey, with as soon to be announced cross lit play between Xbox one and PC, do you think you should advise talking to me, Vinny your family to get Xbox one so you could in theory play with them on the PC. I just want to take this one because I didn't not hear about that at all. Some people talking about it, but I don't clear if they said, yes, we're doing it, or if it was just some rumor that'd bed. I would totally again, I guess it would. But the last time they tried it it did not go well. Now I would totally join Vinnie's family. Yeah, you've done my family. Yeah, you mean Mike horn down at Thanksgiving with the rest of the crew. I mean, what was the last one they did? Cut open? That shadow run is not the only one they did, just five one four. Well, I'm talking specifically Microsoft trying to pull this off. It has not traditionally gone well. Comes from Tyler, apparently young female deer had wandered out of the trees and gotten stuck in the front turnstile. I'm not even gonna read the beginning of this email. Just the middle here, just jumping in right in the middle. A group of peel people were trying to pull it out, but it was having a full blown, fucking panic attack and wouldn't be budged. The drivers called animal control, but by the time they had arrived, the deer had literally died of fright. No obviously obvious physical injuries, just shock. It's horrible, Animal control. We're getting ready to take it away. When one woman asked if she could have it as she knew a local butcher, they gave it the okay, and all the drivers agreed on the condition that got that they get a bit of the take, so to speak. Wow, I'll read the top of the email now. My mom drives for FedEx and stop by the apartment this afternoon. She had some deer jerky and a couple of cheese venison sticks for me to try. What do you would you, guys? What do you think? Are you asking you if I would eat the turnstyle dear the whole thing? What do you think? Sure? Right? Don't waste. Yeah, I feel like the scenarios to cover up the fact scenarios is a tad protest. But sure, and would not have happened in this city or the state. DearS know how to get our turnstyles here or this latitude the state totally there, dear, this is from South Dakota. Okay, guys like venison, it's a little gamy. Yeah, I've always thought a little dry. Where would you draw the line on this? What if I said, hey, weird, a raccoon got stuck in my car fender? Nope? Playing anything got stuck in your fare yeah, yeah, but not a raccoon. You wouldn't in a direction Nope. I might have to draw the line at anything involving an automobile. Okay, raccoon got stuck in my oven. It was skin already, it was magically turned into squirrels. Yeah. I found a squirrel impaled on my wrought iron fence. Sons of people eat squirrel? Yeah? Would you cut? Would you? Guys like I brought in some jerky? Did you get this from? It's a squirrel that gotten paled on a fence. I dried it out in my dehumidifier. Who knows how long it's been there. I feel its fresh, I feel like it happened. I thought it was weird. Jump right out of a tree like you didn't want to live anymore. Would you guys eat my dehydrated squirrel? Sure, okay, dehydraded cat? Not a pet, no collar? Yeah? But a cat, A cat's filthy animal? What I would not eat a cat? Do wit? You need a squirrel but not a cat? Yeah? What dude? Cats eat squirrels. Cats harbor all kinds of disease. What have you ever heard a cat scratch fever? I have? You're right, You're right, all right, end the conversation. How about a bird? A sparrow? Like? Is there even enough meat on there to eat? After a little jerky? It's tiny, tiny, tiny wing? Yeah, a little you guys heard a little wing? Right? All right, Drew? Yeah, you've got some news. I've got an email here so long that I've printed it out and used a highlighter, something I've not done since college. And gentlemen, we have a good old fashioned beef on our hands, and I love get on your right. It is defense industry beef beef. Yeah, this is the one where we withhold names, right, this emails from redacted. That wasn't a highlighter, that was a sharpie. Yeah. Uh so last last podcast we talked about these recently. Recently we talked about the helmet on the F thirty five. Yeah, this is the one where would you describe it because you probably know. Yeah, So it's basically like an oculus rift. It's a head tracker and it's a display all at once, and there are video cameras on the outside of your plane so that when you're looking around, you're looking through your air plane. You're basically flying. You're like a trans and eyeball, just flying through space. Yeah. And some of the controversy on this being the amount of money this has constant developed, right, and the fact that there's been a lot of articles that come out that have come out recently, namely one from Vanity Fair that describes all the problems with the thirty five and they center a lot of it on the helmet and say this thing doesn't work, We've done so much money into it, and the government basically saying we're moving ahead. Yeah, We're we're all in on this thing. So they had contracted out the government another helmet developer to try to make a backup helmet in case the main one failed and was like just just never even worked. And we got an email from that guy talking about his helmet and how awesome it was. And then we got an email from the guy working on the real one. Right, so we got a helmet from the guy being like, yeah, man, that helmet fuck that shit kind of I'm just paraphrasing, right, our helmets rad Yeah, And then we got a response this guy says, howdy, I was catching up on this week's bondcast and heard heard more talk about the F thirty five helmet. To my grand I heard an email from a guy from the other company, how its helmet their helmet is. The competing helmet is inferior in every way. Damn it is a monocular display, requires external night vision goggles to be applied, and cannot even display the DAS, which is the camera's system image is accurate as accurately or with the field of view that we can, basically saying the competing helmet is like the same old stuff that they've had for years and is only a last ditch fallback nothing more. We have solved all the hot topic issues and reduced the helmets cost significantly. That's why the other company's bid was canceled. So he's saying we're we're all good. His claim furthermore on the eight milliseconds latency is b s oh no, wait whose claim? The previous guy brand X The helmet is a little more than a display. In some sensors, latency is dominated by the computer. The there's the aircraft data and generates the display. The computer was going to stay the same no matter what helmet was selected. They probably the proper way to calculate the latency of a display is to take into account the liquid crystal in the display aligning from fully off to fully on black to white. For a sixty he display, this is typically on the order of just around fourteen to sixteen milliseconds. This is industry standard. So I don't know how he can claim that he has eight milliseconds latency unless they've got some really dark stuff going on. I don't know. I don't know. That's actually that's actually pretty fast for I mean, you know, I think about like your TV's have like generally like fifty millisecond displays, you know delay, you know, sometimes even seventy. Yeah, so he goes on to describes some things that like make this whole development seem just impossible. He asks us to please consider the following. Okay, number one, The pilot may have to eject wearing this gigantic thing. How do we keep this on his head when he's going really fast? The wind may just rip it off of his face, take his head off with it. And balances, he says, is also an issue. The pilot may smack his head into something if he gets jolted, or take some fire or something. Whatever mass he has on his head may snap his neck if not weighted precisely. That's not good. The plane's gonna be swept by radar, friendly or not. This a rather large electric field, which will likely kill the display. How do we protect this display from the field? Wrap the pilot's head and foil sounds good to me. Blah blah blah. What if the image freezes or glitches out for a second so he's landing. He may have old information on his display that may direct him to take the wrong action. This the whole thing sounds like a bad idea. Now we don't accidentally blind the pilot. What if the brightness glitches out in the display goes as bright as it can at night time. Okay, don't use this thing if any How do we get the video signal up to his home? I don't know. We're not using it anymore. Do we use HDMI? How do we route it through the plane? I can answer that one, SDI. How do we make sure the cable can eject with the pilot? It would be bad to have him eject with the gable still attached to the planet. That seems like a solvable one. You could probably probably make that happen. You built an injection seat. I think you can figure that one out. How do we protect the electronics and optics from salt and saltwater and sand? This thing is going to be some tough environments and has to survive. Wait, why is there saltwater inside my plane? Because you're next, because you're on an aircraft career, close, close the door, close the windows. You have to get in and out. Okay, wait, how did they protect everything else from saltwater? And come on like you're not like you're not going to open up the canopy while you're up in the air. Yeah, okay, come at an altitude of five and just take all the stand out of my pockets that seems empty, my shoes, and the cock. You go from snorkeling to you're fine. My bet suit isolve. This list is about one percent of the problems we had to solve. On the surface, the helmet sounds neat and cool and everyone thinks they understand what it does. But this is still a fighter jet helmet and a piece of rugged military hardware. This is why these things are expensive. Any who, thanks for the podcast. Your show kept me in good spirits on long nights while working on this thing. This is awesome, This is great. Yeahs Att, Yeah, thanks redacted. Uh, keep it up and dive kick. You're doing a hell of a job. That's so cool that we're getting all sides of this and just fascinating. And boy, I don't know shit about shinola and anything. These different things, yeah, both different and I don't know about shit or shinola, and uh, these guys could just be making shit up up uh, And I'm just fun to hear. Yeah, I'm so happy to be in the middle of this cross These two people could not work for any of these companies and just be spouting nonsense. But that is super interesting. And then yeah, Where are you gonna hear that kind of news? The Giant bomb cast? Do you guys want to do any more emails? You want to wrap this baby up? I'm hungry. Did you guys watch golf on TV? Yep? Okay? Is it boring? Split right in the middle? Yes. Do you guys have any collections? Peter wants to know. Do you guys collect anything? As a small child, I used to collect pencil lead what YEPA When I was writing with a pencil and snap off? I would keep it, wait on like a number two or retractable or colored. That's not good for you? Use it? Well, it's graph I yeah, not mechanical. I didn't count, Come on, so wait really just a point broke off? You'd save it in like where in it in your mouth? No? I had a a pugs container. Okay, you didn't collect POGs? I did? Okay, this was a small one. It could only hold like a slammer. Maybe a slammer. How many did you have? Uh? Pencil let's yeah? Did you know from where they came? I mean I was always on the lookout mine other people's what if it was snapped? Potentially? I didn't count? Wow? Yeah, I wish people. I wish people like at least fifty in there. Wow, Brad, would you collecting fingers? What fingered foods? So years? Ears? You never had you never collected anything, not that I can. You're not a kind of collection. Guy. Oh to a leaf collection for school one time, but that's not for fun. No, alexis standard baseball cards, you know, comic books, you know, I mean, really cats. For some reason, casually I had like I had a Yeah, I don't know, we were just yeah, that's that was one weird fault. I casually amassed a bunch of garbage Peel kids. I guess that we didn't really seek him out. It just kind of like, yeah, I mean I wasn't obsessive about like completing each series or anything like that. Garbage Peel kids. Ever contraband in your schools? I want to say yes, but I can't remember any specific instances of that. Up chuck chuck on my toilet. Yeah, we it became a thing. I went to Catholic school, and I remember when that when the nuns found out. Oh yeah, I'm sure it was religious smashed. I'm sure things were frowned upon. Its barely Catholic school but yeah it was enough. I mean, you know they were not exactly. Was it all boys school? No, it was mixed. It was good. Uh, nobody collect the coins showing my coin collection. Really, how's it going? It's pretty good? Something. My twenty first century is set pre mentioned done unless I want to go crazy, but I'm not ready to do that. I collected all sorts of stuff as a kid's surprising feathers. Uh yeah, I don't know. I like complete sets of stuff. I try not to collect anything that I know I can't get the set of otherwise it makes it not fun. Now, I just collect hobbies and then you play video games. Yeah that's a hobby. Do you want to play video games for twenty four hours? Soon? What can I collect stuff in it? Maybe? Sure? Like what m loot? I think it's I think it's called I think it's called loot. Yeah. But and broken wrist. He's trying to pitch something, pitch something. I'm actually I'm really excited. I think I think this this Year's Extra Life thing is gonna be really awesome. Yeah, I'm super psyched. I can't wait to tune in and see Brad almost dying from playing Doda forever. I don't know how or whatever you're gonna be playing. I don't know how this came about. That it's just me for twenty four hours and then it's all the rest of you for the next twenty four hours. I think you were you were pretty excited for a little while, A good think when it was just me and Drew, you were like, I think I'm gonna do it. I'm I'm gonna sit at home. I'm gonna play DODA. I mean, but yeah, my original idea was let's just see if I can survive twenty four hours of DODA. But now that the case was made to me that that could become somewhat dark at some point, which is true. All becomes dark. Yeah, yeah, but that especially for all kinds of reasons. So I'm gonna try to roll as many other games in there as I can. But I think it'll be a really good start. I think. I don't know about you, guys. I mean, you've done it before, you can pull it off. I think if I were to, well, not if I were to do that, because I'm gonna do it right, but I'm gonna have to be at home for that. I don't think I could hack it. Twenty four hours in the office here you want, Yeah, no air conditioning that we need to do wearing shoes, Well, maybe you're not gonna wear shoes. I don't know. I think that. I think I think the hardest part was that there wasn't any air conditioning. The lights were after a while, got to be a little tiring, you know, yeah, exactly, like kind of yeah, being in that like being in an office environment for twenty four hours. The lights are what kept me going. Honestly, like, I'm you know, I'm I'm excited that you know, I can kind of sit there and comfy clothes and you know, you have all your sort of comforts of home. Think about setting my coffee maker up on the desk. I think you're you'll be doing just fine. I think you know, you'll you'll have the other like Game Spot duds. I think Danny's gonna do it as well at the same time as you and some I'm like some friends of the site like Crispy and Pascal from Daily Dota are gonna be streaming and some other people. So it sounds like they've already raised a little bit of money. Pascal already our giant bomb Team is should be about five thousand dollars right now. Yes, and that's just and we's streaming even done anything. That's all Alex. Alexis what is and where can people tune in? Well? I think the plan is on that Saturday, which is November three, Saturday, So that's not right, Yeah, Saturday's the third, Okay, whenever that Saturday is. I think Brad, you're planning on doing what seven am to at Tentatively, I guess we should hammer that out and I think we're gonna ham out the detail. It would be cool. It would be cool if we if like you guys picked up right after I stopped, like without any break at all. And why would you be doing this twenty four hour thing? It's for Extra Life there for its children's charity, right, doesn't know what they donate to? Yeah, do you know what the specific organizations are? I'm sure you can go to site and find out. You you can pick, you can pick like which uh, basically I think last year we picked the hospital. I think we played like the Children's Oakland Hospitals. So that's the one we picked because it was close by. Yeah, it seems like they needed it. I I My my feeling is I want to start as early as I can, just to minimize the risk of not making it. You know, I think we're definitely gonna start at nine because if you guys are okay, I mean Jeff is coming in from Pedalduma and he's coming in from these bays. Yeah, hopefully the BART will be running. That's a train. I'll start sometime between seven and nine. We'll put out more details. If the BART is not running two weeks from now. Yeah, man, the Bay area is just going to be a giant, smolder water. Nothing left. Let's let's wrap this baby up. Thanks everybody for listening. More details on the extra life stuff. It's twenty five hours, and don't forget it's not twenty four anymore. And when you when you when you ask where people can see it, I mean, we're just gonna have it running on our Giant Bond chap page all weekend, right, Yeah, I'm sure. Well we'll probably pin pin it to the front page. There's but there's there's a whole Giant Bomb team, right Like anybody can sign up and stream as part of the team. So you at home could sign up and stream from your PC and sign up for our team, and all contributions to your account will go to the Giant Bomb team. So if people want to check out, like everybody streaming for the team, do they go to the extra life site for that. Yeah, we need to come up with the redirect because there's l that's right. We had to redrec last year, so we'll just we'll make it. We'll put the details in a in a post, probably like this week or soon enough. Then the stream team. Yeah, stream team, yea. I can't wait to stay up forever. Team. You know what I don't know about you, guys? I mean, is it too early to ask what you're doing? Too early? Too early? We don't know yet. I am. I am currently trying to decide what to play, so if anybody else requests, try to hit me up. Besides today dark Souls, there will be plenty of I fought about it, Dark Souls. I will assume that we will play at least one or two Halo games. Yeah, I figured that was a given, but I didn't want to. And we'll steal your thunder more forthcoming as we approach our dudd here. Thanks everybody, uh tune in next week for more Bomb casts. Say it with authority. Even louder be
