Hour 3 – Bull Riding vs Formula 1, Frank Caliendo

The Dan Patrick Show

Dan and the Danettes discuss some extreme sports and debate a gruesome “would you rather.” Comedian and impressionist Frank Caliendo drops by the set in Vegas and brings a whole cast of characters with him, from Joe Biden to Jon Gruden to Morgan Freeman, and he even attempts an impression of Fritzy.

Speaker 1: You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio.

00:00:04
Speaker 2: Made it to a final hour here on this Thursday in Las Vegas. The Fountain Blue Hotel our home away from home, our residency here. It's only a two night a two mornings day as opposed to the normal residencies. But I want to thank Fountain Blue, beautiful place and a lot of people in town for Formula one. We thought we would try it. You know, we usually get in stay in our comfort zones. I said, let's try something different, and Fountain Blue said, we'll host. You want to come out and the race is coming up this weekend on ESPN on Saturday, starting at eleven Eastern. Frank Caliendo will join us, coming up in about twenty minutes. When Frank went to dinner with Frank last night, had a lot of fun, but it is a problem with Frank that you go to dinner with. So there was a table for six, but it really should have been for twelve because Frank does all of his impersonations while you're talking to him. You're watching on Peacock. That was the table there. The Entourage shot there. Nice, Yeah, the big German was there. He took the picture with Marvin and Seaton and Paulie and Frank. Yes, Saton, Yeah.

00:01:13
Speaker 3: We actually had half of the dinner with William Shatner that you're there, but that's yes.

00:01:18
Speaker 2: Yeah, Frank was doing William Shatner for about twenty minutes there and then he did Charlie Sheen. There's always Oh, John Gruden would joined us last night, so I can say, hey, who'd you go to dinner with last night? John Gruden? William Shatner? Wow, Charlie Sheen. Wow. Yeah.

00:01:36
Speaker 3: There's like six place settings but twelve people at the table.

00:01:40
Speaker 2: Somehow, that'd be great if Frank went in and said, I'm gonna need one more place setting for William Shatner here. Yeah, Paulie.

00:01:48
Speaker 4: What's funny about talking to Frank is that he really knows sports. So we were talking about like, what do you think Lane Kiffen's gonna do? What do you think do you think John Gruden be a college coach? And he has to go yeah, John jant Ger and he just gives you a little he can't do.

00:02:00
Speaker 5: It's like a tick. You have to give you a touch of Gruden.

00:02:02
Speaker 2: Eight seven seven three D P show. We'll get some phone calls coming up. Football starts tonight. Bill's at the Texans, Bills favored by five and a half. We have a football game, I believe is this the lame Kiffin game? Paulie, We're gonna play.

00:02:17
Speaker 5: We are gonna play it. Do you want to do it?

00:02:18
Speaker 2: An?

00:02:18
Speaker 6: No?

00:02:18
Speaker 2: Howur or later? Well, we can do it now. The calendars, by the way, are available at Danpatrick dot com. Autographed and non autograph calendars also go to the Tailgate store. You can get an autograph calendar with select Tailgate purchases while supplies. Last stat of the Day brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show, Sunday Night, Buccaneers and the Rams. Matthew Stafford, the leading candidate for the MVP, going against Baker Mayfield Sunday seven Eastern onn NBC and Peacack. Yes, Hume, oh Engle wouldn't want to see that one? Oh no, man, you are just struggling. Don't like that one? Sis at Englewood.

00:02:56
Speaker 7: They play at Inglewood.

00:02:59
Speaker 2: This is the big game, Bucks, Like you're opening for Frank Kelly Endo right now? Yeah, ear, And the audience is not going to stay for Frank I'm opening for the opening act, Frank Kelly. Yeah, there was another one where there's groans out there in the audience. They're not on my side, right, they are not. But I try to try to get people on your side. You just I can't help you help yourself.

00:03:21
Speaker 6: Oh, Ingle, wouldn't want to see Bucks ramps.

00:03:23
Speaker 2: That's not good. Okay, Uh, pull question seating for the final hour. Bro, you know it's guilt by association with you being in the back row with time. I know all about it. Cooler profession F one Pro Surfer or Rodeo.

00:03:38
Speaker 3: F one this is recency bias because they got fifty five percent of the vote.

00:03:42
Speaker 8: Uh.

00:03:42
Speaker 3: Pro Surfer has a solid thirty one fifteen percent for Rodeo. That's a song that's good showing.

00:03:49
Speaker 2: Okay, does it say something about this sport if we may know more of the athletes in that sport? Surfing is always Kelly Slater, bull riding don't know, but we do know some of these Formula one and the lifestyle of that as well.

00:04:08
Speaker 3: I think TV shows have helped that a lot. Oh my god, I mean that's you know, I mean Drive to Survive. Yeah, was incredible for that sport, but the way it's presented. I mean it's presented to be you're in the car. It's really it's almost.

00:04:26
Speaker 2: Like a pinball or game video game that you're watching with real people in real time doing real scary things.

00:04:33
Speaker 4: Yeah, Paul, I would say though from a lifestyle standpoint, it's surfing.

00:04:37
Speaker 5: It's a fun sport.

00:04:38
Speaker 4: It's very competitive to be one of the best in the world, but you can also do it leisurely when you're off duty, and you can go to the beach, like you're not race car driving when you're off If you're Orlando Norrish, like, let me get in a car this weekend. You want the weekend off. If you're a bull rider, you're like, let me grab a bronco this weekend. But if you're a surfer, the lifestyle is whether you're surfing competitive or not, you're still probably doing it.

00:04:59
Speaker 2: Yeah.

00:04:59
Speaker 9: See, yeah, you know the other two things.

00:05:02
Speaker 3: One of two of those sports potentially have wild animals involved, which for me is a real adds a whole other level of like I don't know if I really want to do that, but also puts them up into the danger category higher for me. Okay, so sharks and bulls sharks and bulls. That's serious. That's it's gonna be tough to do that. You know, I get that driving you know two hundred miles an hour is dangerous, but you're not, you know, dodging buffalo while you're doing that, it might be attacking you. If there's live animals on the track and you're like the lion, that would be really cool.

00:05:39
Speaker 5: Are we playing the game?

00:05:40
Speaker 4: Would you rather be gored by a bowl or bitten by a shark but survive? Because we never played that game before. It's painful and you gotta get surgery, but you do survive.

00:05:49
Speaker 5: Which would you prefer?

00:05:51
Speaker 2: You gotta play, well, where am I getting Gord? And where am I getting big?

00:05:53
Speaker 4: You're gonna get Gord in the ribs or bitten in the thigh?

00:05:58
Speaker 2: Ooh, that'll well, where's the thigh? Like what part of the cant we be.

00:06:02
Speaker 9: Gord in the same place we're bitten?

00:06:04
Speaker 5: That's how the game is best.

00:06:06
Speaker 3: To just take a chunk out of you know, ribs that's awfully close to lungs and other signature and.

00:06:13
Speaker 5: You're gonna survive both.

00:06:15
Speaker 7: Yes, Todd, do you get to keep all your body parts? It's one of those where are like, Oh, you know you got the shark. You pick it, but you have one arm for the rest of your life.

00:06:23
Speaker 2: I just say, you have scars.

00:06:24
Speaker 7: Get some scars.

00:06:25
Speaker 2: That's all.

00:06:27
Speaker 5: See.

00:06:28
Speaker 2: I would do running with the bulls. I just don't want to run with the knuckleheads who run with the bulls. Just got to be faster than a couple bigs. I gotta be faster than Fritzy. That would be it.

00:06:37
Speaker 6: That's hard.

00:06:37
Speaker 2: I go get him. I don't care about him. You know, yes to, but just for the.

00:06:41
Speaker 7: Story, I'd rather tell, like the ladies or someone that I got bit by attacked by a shark, as opposed to I put myself in a position where I got Gord. That just seems like you really went out of your way to do something kind of foolish.

00:06:52
Speaker 2: But that doesn't happen in everyday life. We would get Gord. Well, all you want to do is say you want to see my stitches, you want to see my scars. That would be it. And if you said, oh, I got gourd by a bull, Oh you a matador?

00:07:04
Speaker 7: How that happened on West fifty, Well I decided to.

00:07:07
Speaker 2: Run and go to Pamplona. Yes, Bally.

00:07:10
Speaker 4: You walk into a bar in shy and Wyoming and you show the girls eighty stitches from a bullgar you're walking.

00:07:15
Speaker 5: Out with ten or twelve?

00:07:16
Speaker 2: Easy, Okay, I research this, Okay, Yeah, Marvin, you offering something, same thing.

00:07:23
Speaker 10: You go to Malibu. Oh, I got bitten, but oh where the thig? You don't see it come back?

00:07:30
Speaker 2: Uh?

00:07:31
Speaker 3: The surfing, you're like chasing the thousand year storm. You know, if we go point break on him or one hundred year storm or whatever, he's not coming back. Those are all pretty awesome things. That's pretty epic. Like you go to Maverick and ride there, Dude, that's serious.

00:07:46
Speaker 2: Man.

00:07:46
Speaker 3: I don't get how many people actually have the guts to even paddle out.

00:07:51
Speaker 2: Body would.

00:07:52
Speaker 9: Oh but yeah, Body's a legend, that's why.

00:07:54
Speaker 2: But he never came back. Yeah he's immortal. Yes, Paul, he's on forever.

00:08:00
Speaker 4: There's more bull riding movies, and there are race car movies and uh, surfing movies. If you think about it, like the Last Rodeo, Longest Ride eight seconds, Urban Cowboy.

00:08:10
Speaker 5: There's been a lot of bull riding.

00:08:11
Speaker 2: Movies, classic, ton of race car movies. I want it.

00:08:15
Speaker 4: Yeah, Days of Thunder f one.

00:08:20
Speaker 5: Those are the biggies you've had.

00:08:23
Speaker 2: Uh what was the one, Ricky Bobby, Ricky Bobby.

00:08:28
Speaker 5: Yeah, that's a film. It's a stroker Ace with Burt Reynolds.

00:08:32
Speaker 2: Back in the Smoking the Bandit. Oh yeah, there's so many racecar movies. I don't know if those bull riding movies are great for Grand Turismo Ford versus Ferrari. Yeahs, that's good movie. Rush, Yes, Ron Howard did rush? Did he do that? Was that? Uh? Was that Helmsworth? Hemsworth? Yes, way too good. Look did you say cars the animated? Oh yeah, cars the animated? Yeah, yes, Ton Diesel movies where they made thirty seven. I'm gonna I'm gonna include that. Now that's race car drives, street racing. They laugh at that. They laugh at street cars.

00:09:11
Speaker 5: Race car drivers, true race car drivers think those guys are posers.

00:09:14
Speaker 2: Find me, we're racing for pinks where you're saying that they're posers.

00:09:18
Speaker 5: I'm not making fun.

00:09:19
Speaker 2: I'm gonna lose my car. Imagine if I said to Leonard Lando Norris, You're gonna lose your car. So if you don't beat max Verse stopping, you lose your car.

00:09:30
Speaker 5: So in the Winter Circle he has to sign.

00:09:31
Speaker 2: Has to sign over the papers. That's good TV. That's like racing for Pinks. Like they didn't Grease a little high pitch there, thank you. I just said that. I just said that, that's funny. Oh my gosh, you said the movie Grease. No, I said, racing for Pink.

00:09:44
Speaker 7: Okay, I was, but I just for those of us a certain age, they may not know that's from Grease. That's a big line in the movie Grease.

00:09:52
Speaker 2: But Dan said, wait, god.

00:09:54
Speaker 9: Sorry, let's just try it on.

00:09:55
Speaker 4: Eleven surfing movies and the Summer Blue Crush, Chasing Mavericks, Point Break of course, Riding Giants.

00:10:03
Speaker 2: Point Break remake too.

00:10:05
Speaker 5: Oh that I won't watch that.

00:10:07
Speaker 2: Well, they had white Men Can't Jump on the flight the remake, and so there the woman next to me, I could see she was watching it and they we got landed in Vegas, and I said, how was the movie? And she goes, Okay, if your expectations are really low, it wasn't bad. And I said, she goes, it's all in how you you know you're going into that movie you don't expect it to be good, and it wasn't. So I lowered my expectations, so I I don't need to watch the remake of White Men Can't Jump. Wasn't that guy Jack Harlow Harlow he is he still a big deal because he was a big deal when he did that movie? Is he a rapper Jack Harlow YEA yeah, big deal? I think so.

00:10:52
Speaker 9: Yeah.

00:10:52
Speaker 3: He kind of like is in that down time right now between album cycles. I guess he might be in the lab as they say, oh, he might currently be in the left.

00:11:00
Speaker 2: Let's do the Lane Kiffin game that I didn't know we were going to play today, but I'm glad we are well.

00:11:05
Speaker 5: Things are spiking up a little bit.

00:11:06
Speaker 4: Lane Kiffin's answering questions about his future and won't be decided in the next few weeks, but we want to go on record today. In three months from now, Lane Kiffin will be coaching LSU Florida, Ole Miss other who would like.

00:11:19
Speaker 2: To go first? Todd go first. He will remain at Ole, Miss Kinks, Satan Florida, Melvin Florida. I'm gonna go Florida.

00:11:31
Speaker 5: Oh man, I'm gonna go LSU. You don't get to call that often.

00:11:37
Speaker 2: Seems like there's too many, too many people involved. In that governor got involved that, I'd make me nervous.

00:11:43
Speaker 4: LSU is a wounded animal right now, no pun intended with a tiger. They can afford it, and the recruiting base is always there for LSU.

00:11:52
Speaker 2: I know it's hard to I just don't want. I wish he's governors involved, and then your athletic athletic directors gonna you know, they're gonna hire somebody else or they promote somebody, and then all of a sudden you're looking over your shoulder waiting for the governor to go, you know, thumbs up or thumbs down with this. I don't like that at all.

00:12:09
Speaker 10: Yeah, Marvin, Now, if LSU was offering the same money as Old Miss, do you leave for the prestige of having the LSU or Florida job or do you keep Ole Miss because they're the best team out of all three currently constructed.

00:12:24
Speaker 2: So if you're saying is if the money was the same, given everything that's involved with LSU, I would look at LSU just for the talent. I just don't want to deal with kind of the preifhery. God, if you bring a national title to Ole Miss, They've had national titles at LSU in Florida, Ole miss this is like the Red Sox winning their first World Series. That'd be incredible. You'd be like Dabbo Sweeney. That would be that he'd be bigger than Dabbos Sweeney.

00:13:00
Speaker 10: Saying a team that you would you wouldn't expect to win a national title.

00:13:03
Speaker 2: And Clemson has won a national title before Dabbo got there. I wasn't born then, So in my head, I was like, are you gonna do what my kids do when they say, well, if I said something about history, I wasn't born that, Like it didn't happen because you weren't alive. Yes, but listen it. Perry Tuttle, Yes, Perry Tuttle, Yeah, wide receiver And I'm taking made right now. I'm on drugs right now. Yes you are, Yes, I am, yes. Ston.

00:13:30
Speaker 3: You know what I kind of like though about LSU over those other programs that we mentioned l S. This is just my own perception necessarily, but uh, they have an edge to them as a school and has a program that I think is pretty awesome that I don't know that uh, like say Florida or Ole Misha, LSU has a certain cool factor to them that I think it's pretty.

00:13:55
Speaker 2: Rad a night game in l s Uh, there's still something to be out of. Yeah, yeah, bully.

00:14:01
Speaker 4: I do wonder if a guy like Lane Kiffin is hoping for the best scenario, almost like Kawhi Leonard in Toronto, if I could somehow pull off a title for Old Miss and walk away, I serve both masters. I did it for everybody, and he would they give him a statute Old Miss and they'd be mad that he's gone. But he could go with like I did it, I did a fore you guys, and you'll you'll have it forever. I mean, that's an ideal situation, and there's a long way to go.

00:14:25
Speaker 2: He's got to hold off all of this conversation, all of these questions for another month and a half because he can't take the job. While Old Miss is having its best season.

00:14:36
Speaker 4: Ever, He's never had this much leverage. Like the Old Miss fans, they probably don't want the press, local press jumping on him to bother him, like, let coach do his thing and trust the process.

00:14:47
Speaker 2: Well, how about he does his thing and he doesn't send his family to Florida in LSU. That'd be doing your thing with what you're paying him for I don't think his wife need ex wife needs to take a tour of Florida or l.

00:14:59
Speaker 5: Sh that and rouge in the fall lovely guest Ton.

00:15:03
Speaker 7: Does link if and if all the money is the same, need one of those jobs ego or resume wise, as far as positions he's already held and where he is in the landscape of you know, coaches to have to take the lsu.

00:15:14
Speaker 2: FLA, I don't know. I mean, you know the ego of these coaches is how long do I stay? Do I jump before I'm forced out? What's my next challenge? I think they they're not inclined to be somebody who sets up roots. It's kind of it. It feels like rent not by. But there's certain coaches that's what they think. Hey, if I don't take this job like Kirk Farens at Iowa for years, Oh you got to include Kirk Farens for NFL jobs or other college jumps. He wasn't going anywhere. And I do have respect for that that you have a job, you want to make that job. Joe Paterno at Penn State. You know, Mike Krzyzewsky flirted with the NBA with the Lakers, but building something and maintaining something. It feels like it's easier to build something and then leave as opposed to build something and maintain something. It's like Danny Hurley staying at Connecticut. That made more sense. That's who he is. But your ego goes I can coach the Lakers, so what you can coach a team and become one of the greatest college coaches of all time.

00:16:21
Speaker 4: Yes, bo, I think Fritzi's got a good point though about ego. Lane Kiff in sixteen seventeen years ago was the hot young candidate.

00:16:28
Speaker 5: He got the Raiders job. But was he thirty one?

00:16:30
Speaker 2: Yeah?

00:16:31
Speaker 4: I mean that was unprecedent. He was the future of football coaching college or pro. He got Tennessee and he left for USC by choice, and then he had to coach at Florida Atlantic.

00:16:41
Speaker 5: No offense, but that is it's a minor league. It was a temp stop.

00:16:44
Speaker 4: And I think a guy like him can see the ego thing of I want to be pursued by the number one job in college football, which is LSU as my recornation, whether it's conscious or subconscious.

00:16:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sure you know everybody has an ego and he probably once he got humbled. He got humbled a couple of times. He got fired on the tarmac by USC Al Davis treated him like he was a kid. Didn't give him any authority to do anything there what happened to Tennessee? Hey, where are you coaching? Florida Atlantic? But old miss gave him a job, gave him an opportunity.

00:17:21
Speaker 4: Yeah, Poland here's my Hollywood comp for Lane Kiffin. Ben Affleck great early career, going well in his twenties, and then he has a couple of hiccups, more than a couple of hiccups. Then he becomes the town, he becomes a director, and he's back on top of Hollywood again.

00:17:34
Speaker 2: When does Jlo come into this picture?

00:17:36
Speaker 5: Florida Atlantic?

00:17:37
Speaker 2: I like that? Oh she was already there. I thought You'm in Florida, Florida Atlantic, Jala, Jlo's Florida Atlantic.

00:17:44
Speaker 4: Well, the last days at USC are the Ji Lee for Lincoln h I'm work shopping this.

00:17:51
Speaker 2: I can tell ye good thing it wasn't Todd doing this.

00:17:57
Speaker 5: Someone's going to steal that. Colin's going to steal that one.

00:17:59
Speaker 2: Colin coward steal and take the penn afflick. How about we take a break the many personalities of Frank Kelly Endo next year on The Dan Patrick Show.

00:18:49
Speaker 2: We'll try to sneak in a few phone calls here on this Thursday. Michael Douglas. Yeah, that Michael Douglas, big Formula one fan. We saw him yesterday and invited him on the show show and he will join us coming up tomorrow. It is surreal, though, when you're kind of going, okay, hey, Michael, I want to call him mister Douglas these eighty one years of age, and I thought, all right, hey, Mike, you want to join us on the show. And he goes, yeah, I'll talk to some formula one. So he'll join us on the program tomorrow. Frank Caliendo, where as Terry Bradshaw say is Frank Kella DNDO. He's performing New Year's Eve at the Tempe Improv in Arizona doing shows. He's at the Funny Bone in Omaha January twenty third, twenty fourth, Off the Hook Comedy Club in Naples, Florida, January thirtieth, thirty first. All tickets can be purchased at Frank on stage dot com. Great to see you again. I mentioned that going to dinner with you is like going to dinner with five or six different people. So well, it happens a lot, like little.

00:19:49
Speaker 6: Bits of stories happen, right like we were talking about that. I'll get to the full story eventually on here. But just hanging out with William Shatner. I was with him at an event the other day. I kept trying to lock eyes with him and try to get him to fight. There was a kind of like, yeah, what's the problem.

00:20:05
Speaker 1: I don't know.

00:20:07
Speaker 6: He's like, I don't talk the way people say I talk.

00:20:10
Speaker 2: Why do they do that?

00:20:11
Speaker 6: Why do they say I speakless way? I'm like, you're ninety four, I know, why was wagerhead ninety four? But people tend to do that Captain's lug that kind of thing, and when he just talks, he just looks like this. But you can't help from wanting to talk like it.

00:20:29
Speaker 2: But point of view, when you impersonate somebody, imitate somebody, But then what are you going to say when you use that voice like the context of it? How difficult is that?

00:20:41
Speaker 6: I think that's one of the most difficult things, because otherwise you're just a parrot. Right if you're doing the voice of the person, you're not trying, you're not finding something funny with it. We were talking about Charlie Sheen on the show a couple when he was on the show a couple of weeks ago, and you, I was a setan that noticed the same thing I did. He would repeat the question back that you would ask, yeah, so I uh I uh, I asked that, huh. I said that okay, and did that go well no, all right?

00:21:10
Speaker 1: Oh yeah.

00:21:11
Speaker 3: And then if people watch this you say, so you're seeing people, saw people saw me and you didn't enjoy it?

00:21:18
Speaker 5: Or you did did I? Did I kill somebody?

00:21:21
Speaker 6: Did somebody die?

00:21:22
Speaker 2: But in fairness to him, he doesn't remember, though.

00:21:25
Speaker 6: Friend, No, that was the amazing I made it. I did a little social media post that was based on that. It was Halloween candies and he would he had pixie sticks. I was like, those straws with sugar in them. That is sugar. That's what that is, is that sugar. And it was from this your interview with him that I was like, I picked up that he says something. The questions it afterward, like is.

00:21:45
Speaker 2: That is that right? Or not? Okay?

00:21:48
Speaker 6: All right? I was alive during this, right. So it's it's it's finding those little pieces. Terry Bradshaw was easy, not fun if Frank not funny.

00:21:57
Speaker 2: Charles Barkner thinks everything is terrible, not damn, that's really bad and the shot is not cheating, you know.

00:22:04
Speaker 6: So it's you you find those little things. What does the person do? The old school ones seem.

00:22:09
Speaker 2: To be a lot easier.

00:22:10
Speaker 6: I think the newer people are a little more difficult because people have like the wide rate, like de Niro's become uh, you know, a caricature of himself. Everybody does that. Okay, what doings?

00:22:23
Speaker 5: Now?

00:22:23
Speaker 2: He does that.

00:22:23
Speaker 6: He's in the movie Here we Go.

00:22:25
Speaker 2: Samuel L.

00:22:26
Speaker 6: Jackson has a cadence. They the writers write the cadence. It's the dud duh dea du da da and you you know there's certain words in there too, right, But that's the that's the song about how many Christopher Walkins have you heard? Low Hi in the middle? But you know who it is, right because of that little song that they sing.

00:22:46
Speaker 2: Does Gruden know that he's doing Gruden when he talks?

00:22:51
Speaker 6: Uh?

00:22:52
Speaker 2: I think, I think No.

00:22:54
Speaker 6: I don't know why. I can't really tell. But he's he's into it so much. I mean, he is Gruden times a million. I mean when he was a coach, there were a lot of people that you know, it was it was a love and hate kind of thing. Now people just seem to love him. He's opening boxes every year. We gotta here, man, let's open this thing up. It's gonna be pretty good right here.

00:23:15
Speaker 2: Man. I tell you what, He's one of.

00:23:17
Speaker 6: Those guys that gets excited out of nowhere when I when I did that Hard Knocks with him, I'm gonna yell for no reason.

00:23:22
Speaker 2: Man, Why am I mad?

00:23:23
Speaker 6: Right now?

00:23:25
Speaker 2: So you don't think Gruden's playing Gruden.

00:23:28
Speaker 6: I think he just is free. I think he's free in just doing what he wants to do. I think that's kind of it. He's just free to be himself, like he would do crazy things on Monday Night Football when when he was there there were some certain and he just is doing that type of stuff all the time. But you can't. It's one of those guys that hit you when he talks.

00:23:47
Speaker 2: Man, you like that.

00:23:48
Speaker 6: Huh yeah, be careful. You ever see his hands, his hands something like wreck at Ralph for something like that, They're just massive, you know, he puts them up. He's doing this kind of thing like he's doing a magic reveal here.

00:24:00
Speaker 2: Call this the Prestige.

00:24:01
Speaker 6: You ever get thirteen minutes into that movie, man, I'll tell you what, it's a pretty good one. It should see the ending tricks.

00:24:06
Speaker 2: Yet, when do you know when to retire somebody?

00:24:10
Speaker 6: Uh?

00:24:12
Speaker 10: I don't know.

00:24:12
Speaker 6: I bring him back little bits. I mean, that's that's one of the things.

00:24:16
Speaker 2: Is like, is John Madden always going to be.

00:24:19
Speaker 6: Well with the Madden movie coming back? And I think I'll talk to you guys about that. That'll be big again. It's like and they I don't know if I brought this up to you guys before, but they asked me to audition for that movie for the part of Howard Kosel. Like I wasn't gonna get it, but I think they just wanted me to talk to Nicholas Cage about being Do you know if I talked about this? But I guess I could just tell the story again, but it was it was.

00:24:40
Speaker 2: I got a text.

00:24:40
Speaker 6: From my agent, Nicholas Cage and the director want to call it. You want to do a zoom call with you. I'm like no, Like, what do you mean No, I'm like no, I want to hang out with Nicholas Cage if I'm gonna give him the recipe of the Madden I want to hang out with Nicholas Cage in Vegas. I want to do Leslie Stall Walk and Talk. I want to write sidecar to the ghost Rider. I want to be there. I want him to show me his exotic animals. Like here's my monitor lizard. What would John Madden say to this monitor lizard?

00:25:09
Speaker 2: We're gonna steal the Declaration of Independence? Ool?

00:25:12
Speaker 6: So it's like I wanted that kind of a thing. I didn't want to do a zoom. Its static, you know, and he could get out of at any time. I wanted to force him to have to. And that's probably why they didn't do it. Was they they didn't want to take that time. But John Mann never liked me. He finally kind of turned around when I met him at the Super Bowl years later, but it wasn't I didn't know anything about him like that. I think they were trying to do research, and that's what it was going to be. They were going to try and ask me a bunch of questions about John Man, like I didn't really know him. I just met him once.

00:25:40
Speaker 2: Do you do a Howard Cosell I don't.

00:25:41
Speaker 6: And it was this as Howard coach. I mean, it would be that and bad the whole time. And one of the reasons I don't do is because it's so old that some of the impressions I've done throughout the years, I'm like, well, this is like you said you when you retire them. Well, that Howard Cosell was, you know, two generations before John Madden, So I don't know. It gets a little weird there, and who remembers only the oldest of people remember that you do Howard Cosell on a TikTok video. Nobody cares.

00:26:09
Speaker 2: I mean that.

00:26:10
Speaker 6: Then the next thing that plays, because you're in the algorithm is uh, Billy Crystal doing it from forty years sixty years ago. I didn't even know you could do it anymore. So I threw Billy Crystal.

00:26:20
Speaker 2: And you know, with a comedian, it's trickier. If you're in a band and you play the hits, well, then you get to play the hits the next place, in the next place. But as a comedian, like in a year from now, you can't have the same stand up act of saying.

00:26:34
Speaker 6: It has to evolve and and people and people's voices changed. By the way, this this the fond of Blue Hotel. I told you this when you texted me about coming here. This is my go to hotel and it's because of your show. I listen, when you guys were here at the Super Bowl a couple of years ago. I heard you there. We were coming for NBA uh Summer League, and I was like, where should we stay? My son? I look, oh, that's uh, that's blue, and I'm like that's where Dan was. It's got it's gotta be good if the if the if Dan's there, so uh, and we looked at the price and like, holy cow, we were here. We actually booked another place to go afterward, like we're going back to Founder Blue, like because we didn't know what it was going to be, like we checked out, we ended up coming back and now this is this is where I stayed most of the time. So where was I going with?

00:27:20
Speaker 2: That? Was it we were we were talking about that.

00:27:23
Speaker 6: Oh well, voice has changed too, So here's here's another thing too. So if you heard on the TV's that's what made me think of Mountain Blue. On the TV's the Hall of Uh. I was gonna say, Brady uh, but that's playing and it's Morgan Freeman narrating it. But he's ninety year old Morgan Freeman. Look how Liza Shatner's like, he's a young man. But if you listen to Morgan Freeman, now he's much older man. He's like that, this is Morgan fra It's not that thing, you know. Truth of the matter is, it's not that anymore. It's even and not this isn't a political thing. But if you listen to Donald Trump. Now he doesn't have the same voice he had ten years ago. Everybody, A lot of people do that.

00:27:59
Speaker 2: Well, you know that, big I do.

00:28:01
Speaker 12: The quiet one, the very quiet the library Trump with the tremendous books in the library, the great books. They're with some of the best words, and they get the greatest words, and these words form something called sentences, and the sentences they end up making sense.

00:28:16
Speaker 6: And we done, we done? We don't I like when he does that? Then I got to eaven it out with a little Biden, right, Folx, come on, what are we doing?

00:28:24
Speaker 3: The thing?

00:28:25
Speaker 8: I don't have to tell you when as young man grow up ascribe Pennsylvania thirty forty five six.

00:28:30
Speaker 6: It's like a drunk auctioneer to get her anything.

00:28:34
Speaker 8: Six hundred e d's follow the Roman Empire. The Romans l by the salad Gay Caesar defeated by Mario Luigi.

00:28:45
Speaker 2: The Romans.

00:28:46
Speaker 12: Folks, Ah, we're not sure what's going on.

00:28:52
Speaker 2: But how often here's the true bide?

00:28:53
Speaker 6: Folks come on like it?

00:29:00
Speaker 2: But it's your shows. Wait where are you going? No, we're not done yet, mister president. We're not done yet. What at your shows? Though, at the very end you get this, everybody just starts yelling out names.

00:29:17
Speaker 6: People do if I don't get them, like I forget to do steven A Smith sometimes and I understand I do, I do, uh steven A talk. I think you guys talked about the show stephen A talking about Browny after the fact. I understand where you're going with super serious stephen A. Oh yeah, where we're going with some of these things. And we have to contemplate in perpetuity where it just trails down the end and nothingness and we're wondering where it is.

00:29:44
Speaker 2: And then once you go down low then it gets real serious.

00:29:48
Speaker 6: Jay Farrow has like the super hyped up version, so he's got that great. By the way, when we're walking, I listened to the beginning of the show because I wanted to hear how you guys talk about when Matt friend walked by and I never say hello to I don't know him, but he's he's a very good Like there's some he's great. There's him, there's Jay Farah, there's a kid named Cameron Logs and my friend John Holmberg might be one of the best I've ever seen. But these there's like all kinds of impression people people doing impressions on the internet now. But when Eric was like, oh, looks my friend, like you're walking with me and the most awkwardly, oh lookst front, he's a great impression.

00:30:22
Speaker 2: Over he's free, I was like, I was like, what is going on here? This is the most of it. I thought it was kind of cool. So we're coming back from dinner. We go into the hotel and the big German is there, and all of a sudden he sees this twenty seven year old Matt friend who's blown up the last.

00:30:37
Speaker 6: Fantastic he's very, very good.

00:30:38
Speaker 2: And here's Eric the big German, going, oh my god, that's my friend. He's the best impression. And then all of a sudden, Frank was there. Yeah.

00:30:46
Speaker 6: Eric's like, oh wait a second.

00:30:47
Speaker 2: There's very Spirits, he's incredible. There's Jay Farrell, what's he doing here?

00:30:51
Speaker 6: There's Ross markwa They're incredible.

00:30:53
Speaker 2: Well, these are some of the best people I've ever seen. Oh freak, what are you doing tomorrow?

00:30:58
Speaker 6: Well, I'm already on the show as a friend of the show, but now it seems that I've gone down the ladder.

00:31:04
Speaker 2: Do you know that I'm texting with Fritzy as we're walking in the lobby to say, Matt friend I think is staying at the hotel. We need to get him on. Paulie is walking and texting Fritzie at the city. So we're walking with you, talking to you while we're going, Hey, Todd, Matt friend is I think in the hotel. Let's see if we can get him on. And then Fritzy goes, yeah, I just heard from Paul, and Paul's right there next to me. So we're we're doing that when we're walking with you last night, I.

00:31:32
Speaker 6: Think it's funny. I'll walk by you guys at the super Bowl and the guys, hey Frank, everybody keeps going nobody text me yeah.

00:31:39
Speaker 1: Yeah.

00:31:39
Speaker 2: We walked into the lobby last night and Fritzy wasn't gonna go to dinner, and all of a sudden, we see Frank there.

00:31:44
Speaker 6: Oh no, this is what you don't know. I planned it, no, see on. That was me conniving my way in that I was with Marvin. We were watching the Yukon game, which is why I where the Crton s Creton.

00:31:56
Speaker 2: Pull over today.

00:31:58
Speaker 6: I wanted you to ask me why what's with the What's with the Creighton? They won?

00:32:01
Speaker 2: Last night.

00:32:02
Speaker 6: Uh something Connecticut didn't damn he out of the blue Marvin texted me last week or early in the early last week. It was he wanted to do a bet Arizona, which I should have taken. They wanted a pie in the face bet.

00:32:15
Speaker 2: Out of that.

00:32:16
Speaker 6: I was like, oh no, no, no, were supposed to be talking about F one. We're supposed to be talking about Max for stapping. I'll tell you what Oscar Piastre.

00:32:25
Speaker 2: I'll tell you what I mean. These guys. You ever see Chuck Leclerk, I'll tell you.

00:32:30
Speaker 6: It's Charlotte Clair Chuck Leaclurk.

00:32:32
Speaker 2: That's what I said.

00:32:33
Speaker 6: Man, I don't do French.

00:32:35
Speaker 2: Is that where he's from?

00:32:36
Speaker 6: Where's he from? You guys don't even know. Man, nobody knows where Charlotte Leclore is from. But I'll tell you what this guy's We do a thing called the uh. You gotta go to the break as I saw you grabbing the paper. But we do this thing called the uh the f what experiences And I take My daughter is a huge F one fan, and that's how I get most of my information, so I know all types of She knows every thing. But I'm fifty one years old at this point, and I get all the information right, so I know little pieces and that's about it. But this is the first Vegas race I've missed because I got to go work in Jackpot, Nevada tonight, which is gonna be cool. But the uh going to Jackpot, Yeah yeah, which is much better than lose your house Novada.

00:33:18
Speaker 2: I'll tell you I got a million pro U.

00:33:21
Speaker 6: Yeah, so where you were there and lose your house Nevada.

00:33:25
Speaker 2: I know it's not good for radio, but it is good for TV. You've been working on your Fritzy impersonation you.

00:33:30
Speaker 6: Got, Yeah, it's not doing any radio.

00:33:35
Speaker 3: I gotta get the voice that is like a weird thing, like you swallow the bottom part of your face.

00:33:40
Speaker 2: You're that guy who could eat his face. It's kind of like that.

00:33:44
Speaker 6: I've realized that Fritzi basically when he talks, he gets himself, digs himself into a hole. Then he's like you're in college doing an essay and trying to fill a two thousand word essay and you've only got five hundred words, and he's just feeling He's changing the margins and filling in words and saying the same thing over and over and over. He actually we were talking over there. He decided he was done with the conversation.

00:34:05
Speaker 2: He's going to be clapped, and okay, all right.

00:34:10
Speaker 4: Yeah, if Frank was telling me about the texts and the emails he gets from Fritzy that are just the minimum of care.

00:34:16
Speaker 6: I don't understand, Like, I think you really believe you're being nice, but it's so abrupt, is really Yeah, like I told you about that. I told you about doing Jim Gray's fiftieth birthday party years ago. Muhammad Ali was there, Uh, doctor j Bill Walton, all these shapes, he goes, uh, pretty relevant party, fun to.

00:34:36
Speaker 5: Be at, Like it's I thought, I said, that would have been a great thing too.

00:34:40
Speaker 6: It would have been fun, would have been a fun.

00:34:42
Speaker 5: Would have been a great experience. So I try to be extra nice that it comes across, and somehow kind of h it does.

00:34:49
Speaker 6: I don't know why I got work because that's not what I want to do. That's not who you are.

00:34:52
Speaker 2: I think you're kind descending like kind descending like you're not necessarily you don't mean it, but you you're but you it's sound lo somehow morphs into.

00:35:03
Speaker 7: Fake kindness or something which is not a good thing.

00:35:05
Speaker 6: It's just the opposite of kindness.

00:35:07
Speaker 2: By the time it's done, he's Frank Caledendo. You can see him New Year's Eve in Tempe at the Improv there and you'll be at the Funny Bone in Omaha January twenty third, twenty fourth off the Hook Comedy Club in Naples, Florida, January thirtieth and thirty first. All tickets can be purchased at Frank on stage dot com. Thanks for being a friend of the show. Thanks guys, And there he goes, It goes, there he goes. President Biden is leaving, leaving the show. We'll be back here from Las Vegas right after this. Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to listen live. Frank is such a big fan of the show, and he's listening all the time living in Arizona. He'll send Paulie notes or Fritzy notes during the show and he fits right in. So we appreciated that that he came in and made it a point to join us here in Las Vegas. Before he goes on to his next show, but you do go to dinner with him, and you really feel like William Shatner was there last night at dinner and Charlie Sheen and John Gruden. But he does it, and he's telling stories about these people, but he can't tell a story without actually putting himself in that story of being those people, and just the fact that he was with William Shatner, who's ninety four years of age but as tough as can be, you know, and he's telling you stories and then he goes, I can't tell that on the air. I said, okay, but when you do tell that, then you know, make sure you tell it on our show. Yeah, Paulie.

00:36:57
Speaker 4: And Frank's face is so expressive when he starts. It's the imitation a one beat before the word comes out. His face goes into President Bush or whoever may be, and you see it coming like, oh, he's going to do and then it happens.

00:37:08
Speaker 5: It's wild.

00:37:10
Speaker 2: And you talk to impressionists and they will talk to you about body language, and you know, what's the first thing you can get into that character because you're using your hands or you're using your face. If I said, do John Gruden, But you can't do John Gruden's face. Be hard to do that then, I think, you know, even if John Madden was very expressive with his hands as well. But you know, impressionists will talk about the the face or the hands or the gestures and it helps him get into character. Yes, Tom Jim Carrey is probably the best at that.

00:37:42
Speaker 7: To actually be able to contort your face and look like a totally different person, it's like spooky, amazing how you do it.

00:37:47
Speaker 2: I thought Frank was the best that ever did. That's awkward to say. I mean, he's right here now, he's far enough away.

00:37:54
Speaker 7: I'll give him second place on that.

00:37:55
Speaker 2: I'll put him characters.

00:37:56
Speaker 10: Matt Friend, who's the best?

00:37:57
Speaker 2: Matt Friend playing us tomorrow on the program that al was that rude of us last night? We're coming into the Fountain Blue and the big German notices Matt Friend, who is a young impression is very very popular on social media, and all of a sudden and we're walking in with Frank. Just had a wonderful dinner two hours with him, And next thing I know, the big German goes, there's my friend, And I didn't know Matt Friend found out a lot about him, and then all of a sudden, I'm on my phone. So we're walking with Frank and Frank's doing impersonating, just being Frank, and I'm going fritzy. I think Matt Friend is staying, you know, we just try to get him on the show on Friday. Paulie is doing that at the same time to you as well. Meanwhile, Frank is talking a great dinner and hey, you know Matt Friend, he's really really good. And then all of a sudden, we're not even listening to him. Yeah, PAULI, I.

00:38:50
Speaker 5: Don't think it's wrong or rude to Frank. Was Frank made it, he did it.

00:38:53
Speaker 4: He's had a monstrous career Fox TV, touring all that stuff TV shows.

00:38:58
Speaker 2: Should we have waited until we got to the elevator and said goodbye?

00:39:02
Speaker 5: That's not what we do though. We got to strike while the iron's hot. We just saw this guy.

00:39:06
Speaker 2: It is a better story that we did it right in front of Frank. But the big german like that was schoolgirl took his phone out.

00:39:17
Speaker 10: Guys, look at this, look at this TikTok, Frank, Frank, look how good this guy is.

00:39:21
Speaker 2: I was like, damn, that's not nice. The big German didn't react that way when his son was born. No, no, he was like, oh, okay, we got a boy. Okay, his name's Jacob. Oh. Just you see Matt Friend.

00:39:32
Speaker 10: I'm like, wow, I thought he's gonna took his phone out there.

00:39:35
Speaker 2: He's gonna show his son. Yeah. No, no, no, no, it's a Mat Friend, not my son.

00:39:38
Speaker 12: Eh.

00:39:38
Speaker 2: Yeah, but he looked like a million bucks. He'll be on the show tomorrow with Michael Douglas. He will join us as well. Of course. You come to expect Michael Douglas on the program. Uh, David Croft. They call him crofty. He covers Formula one really funny. He's like Roger Bennett is to soccer, he is to Formula one. He'll join us the program tomorrow. Again. Thank you to the Fountain Blue. If you get an opportunity and you come to Vegas, think of the Fountain Blue. They are great people to work with. Seaton final results of the poll question.

00:40:13
Speaker 9: Yeah, we got up there right now. Coolest job.

00:40:18
Speaker 3: Dot dot dot f one pro surfer or rodeo f one right now running away with that one. About fifty five percent of that boat.

00:40:26
Speaker 2: Okay, let's go around the room. What we learned on the program? Todd? We will do your rime time tomorrow at some point. That sounds good, Okay.

00:40:35
Speaker 7: Formula one cars don't have win shild wipers or a windshield for that matter, is what I learned.

00:40:39
Speaker 2: Why don't you go look at the car? It's over my left shoulder there, go over and look at it. Seaton, what'd you learn today?

00:40:47
Speaker 9: Nicole Brisco had been with ESPN about seven or eight years before.

00:40:50
Speaker 2: Our first sports center. Yeah, she said, nothing prepares you for that, Paulie. Would you learn today?

00:40:58
Speaker 5: Goring versus shark bite?

00:41:00
Speaker 2: Marvin? What did you learn today? Cardiac bulls?

00:41:03
Speaker 1: Yeah?

00:41:04
Speaker 2: Yeah, cardiac bulls since Wayne, I know, since this year. Good story, Todd? What did I learn? Ross?

00:41:10
Speaker 7: Tucker Confused by the group of social media detractors looking to scrutinize your door any chance they get.

00:41:15
Speaker 2: Thank you again to everybody who came out today. We appreciate that. We'll do it again tomorrow. We're seating Paulie, Fritzchen, Marvin
