You can give us a check shout on the Clarks Popping Shop phone line A five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. A Vision Auto Glass text machine is seven seven two seven four five two five four and diition spots. 00:01:00 Speaker 4: A by the TJ. Smith Office. If you call TJL make them pay. 00:01:03 Speaker 5: I got Ryan, I got Drew, and I got Shannon, and I told Shannon during the break, it is the start of the Lunar New Year and it is also the first day of Ramadan. Tonight at sundown and Shannon and I were trying to discuss what is the lunar New Year, and we found out that neither one of us knew. 00:01:24 Speaker 4: So Ryan, Drew, do you know what the Lunar New Year is? 00:01:28 Speaker 6: I have no idea. I wouldn't even have a guess why they call it the lunar New Year? 00:01:34 Speaker 7: Drew, do you know is it related to the Chinese New Year? Are they the same? Similar? 00:01:40 Speaker 8: No? 00:01:41 Speaker 5: Uh well, actually it says maybe maybe maybe You're right. Wikipedia isn't clear because it but it says lunar New Year marks the beginning of a new year according to lunar calendars, but lunar calendars are eleven days shorter than solar calendars. 00:01:58 Speaker 2: It marks the first new moon, right, That's what I said to you during the break, It's. 00:02:03 Speaker 4: What does that mean? New moon? 00:02:04 Speaker 2: It's back to the first cycle. It goes in a big cycle all year. This moon is cycling. But then after three hundred and sixty five days, it comes back to the very point where it began, and that's the new Lunar. 00:02:20 Speaker 5: The Sun rotates around the Earth, So what is the moon doing during this? 00:02:23 Speaker 4: It is rotating, Earth rotates around the Sun. 00:02:26 Speaker 2: Benning moving gyrating. 00:02:29 Speaker 6: Yeah, okay, then after it tags the new Moon and the new Moon takes its lap around. 00:02:35 Speaker 3: That's right, it does a butt push to the that's right. 00:02:38 Speaker 4: So none of you know what the answer is. No one knows the answer to that. 00:02:41 Speaker 5: And I don't know that that description it says it mentions Chinese, but it also mentions Islamic and Afghanistan, so I guess there may be other places that celebrate the lunar New Year. 00:02:53 Speaker 4: So I don't know the answer. 00:02:54 Speaker 5: But today is that day, and I hope everyone is enjoying their lunar New Year as they would like. Ryan, we were off yesterday, which means we didn't get to talk about the Kentucky Florida game, but the Cats battled in Gainesville. I gave my thoughts on the game on the postgame show. I'll do it again after, but I'd like to give you two a chance to kind of give your unfiltered thoughts before we start I. 00:03:22 Speaker 6: Thought they showed some fight, you know, a couple of different times during the second half, they kept battle back, get at the four or five, maybe the even two points. I think at one point I thought they showed some fight. Just too many defensive lapses, giving up too many wide open shots, too many miss layups, too many turnovers. Things you can't do, and you've go on the road and play in the SEC. But I left thinking, you know what, we get this team at RUP. I ain't that scared of that team. Bring them on. 00:03:45 Speaker 4: You're not scared of them, not scared. 00:03:47 Speaker 6: Of them after what I saw. 00:03:48 Speaker 4: Very good. 00:03:49 Speaker 6: Oh, I think they're very, very good. But I think we held our own showed enough fight that I think maybe on our home court we might give them a battle. 00:03:55 Speaker 7: All right, Drew, what about as I expected, even said on pregame show, will probably be down eight like most of the game and just be in it but never really threatening them. I kind of feel that's how it played out. But uh, I'm with Ryan. I feel like we're a little closer than I thought we were. For me, the key wasn't even their front court, and so you let the other guys beat you. Clavs are Lee had their best games of the season, maybe even the best games of their careers. 00:04:19 Speaker 9: So to have two of the other guys. 00:04:21 Speaker 7: Beat you the way they did, you know, we don't do moral victories at Kentucky, but it was kind of promising knowing that the winning out at eight and nine, the run Kentucky's been on, it wasn't like a fluke, because they really have turned a corner and can compete. 00:04:33 Speaker 4: Yeah. I was overall very encouraged. 00:04:36 Speaker 5: The guy off the bitch, clavs arelas Are, Yeah, that was the game of his career. Yeah, he had the game of his career. And we really struggled guarding those guys, uh, the guards, which I. 00:04:49 Speaker 4: Didn't suspect that. 00:04:50 Speaker 5: Colin Chandler really, I mean Colline Chandler played very well offensively, he really struggled on the defensive end, and that hurt us. But I'm still kind of overall encouraged. I think if you could have Ryan done, I want to say, well, let me. 00:05:09 Speaker 4: Get do the positive, because I don't want to lead with the negative. Positive. 00:05:13 Speaker 5: That was a game they easily could have quit. Yes, they and they have sometimes. I mean when they get they get down fifteen. Now every game I mean, you just have to assume we're gonna be down fifteen. If we're playing a good we're gonna be down fifteen. And a lot of times they fought back and unbelievable amount of times, and then a few times they've absolutely quit. And when it was like thirty two seventeen, I think pretty much everybody watching probably was like, well, this is headed towards the route zone. 00:05:45 Speaker 4: And they turned it around. They made a couple of big shots. 00:05:49 Speaker 5: I think Jasper Johnson hit a three that cut it to like eleven, and then we got a basket and then it was nine and it kind of stayed like that till half, and then we started the second half on fire and cut it to two. 00:06:00 Speaker 4: And that little period. You know, we always used to. 00:06:02 Speaker 5: Talk in UK football about the final two minutes of the first half and first two and the second half and how bad Mark Stoops was often during that Ryan Mark Pope that we were really good in that period in this game, and it took a game that was getting out of hand and made it manageable. 00:06:20 Speaker 4: So I like that. 00:06:22 Speaker 5: We did not we were not able to keep them off the glass in the second half, but you kind of expected that. I mean, Florida came into the game rebounding over forty percent of their misshot Shannon, which is a crazy number. 00:06:35 Speaker 4: That's a crazy number. 00:06:39 Speaker 5: But the disappointing part to me was the starts because we laugh about them because we keep coming back, but Drew, we lost this game because of the start. If you don't fall fifteen down at the beginning, if you just keep it within three or four, you might win that game. And I think this was a game where the start really did them in because most of the time when we've started poorly, we've ever got either gotten blown out, which. 00:07:04 Speaker 4: Means we weren't gonna win anyway, or we've come back and won. 00:07:07 Speaker 5: This was the first game where I think you saw how these starts hurt you because the start, in my opinion, is what kept them from being competitive as the game went on. 00:07:17 Speaker 7: Yeah, two things in my mind kept them from getting over the hump and maybe winning it. It was the start, where again it was Lee hitting threes. I mean, he averages won a game and shoot twenty five percent when that guy has six points right where I think he had three threes in the first five to ten minutes. 00:07:31 Speaker 4: Two back to back and right at the beginning. 00:07:34 Speaker 7: Yeah, when their fifth or sixth best player has ten points in the first half, all right, you're in big trouble on the road at Florida. But then in the second half, if Malcom Mareno is not in foul trouble, I wonder how much closer the rebounding is because he had eleven and twenty minutes and he had more rebounds than Florida's whole team five minutes unto the game. But when you got he got that fourth foul a couple minutes in the second half, and he just couldn't be as aggressive. He as good as Aberdeen was with nineteen points, even though he took felt like five hundred shots. I thought Marino was the star, but foul trouble just held him back late. 00:08:03 Speaker 5: I agree, And Garrison was really bad when he was in and so you just felt that gap when they were when those two were different. I thought Diabate played well, Chandler hit good shots. And the other thing, Ryan is you didn't get a good game from Oway. I mean, regardless of how many points he ended up with, it was not a good O way game. We missed fifteen layups. Fifteen layups. 00:08:28 Speaker 3: There's the difference in the game, right there. 00:08:30 Speaker 4: Yeah, you hit five of those. 00:08:32 Speaker 5: I mean we missed fifteen layups, and I would say. 00:08:37 Speaker 4: Six or seven of those were relatively open. 00:08:42 Speaker 5: Now we had some that were contested, and they're good at contested in the rim. 00:08:46 Speaker 4: That maybe Florida's best thing, but they we just missed. 00:08:51 Speaker 5: I mean, Oway had three drives Ryan I can think of where he beat his man and had a leap and he just missed it. And I think that was a huge part of it as well. 00:09:02 Speaker 6: Yeah, out of those fifteen lamps, that felt like, oh, I missed most of them, and he missed some that were usually just gimmes when he gets to the hoop, he finishes off finished of those, he just didn't get it done. 00:09:10 Speaker 4: So I feel like he misses those a lot, though, I mean. 00:09:13 Speaker 6: I has been this season. 00:09:14 Speaker 5: Seems like for a guy that is is really great getting the basket, I think he misses more than his share of layups but go ahead. 00:09:23 Speaker 9: But he hits those. 00:09:23 Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a totally different game, and I think Florida did a good job trying to keep him, you know, out off the three point line, even they honored his shot. But the thing that I was kind of surprised about you already mentioned it, like Chandler on defense. You know, Channer on Nate ament was one of the reasons they won that Tennessee game. But yet he was getting beat time and time again against Florida. 00:09:42 Speaker 5: And he beat a lot and then and then they switched him up in the second half and they had him a little. 00:09:48 Speaker 4: Bit on Uh what's his name? 00:09:50 Speaker 5: I keep wanting to call him clovicular Shandon because that dude keeps showing up on my TikTok. 00:09:55 Speaker 9: Isn't like an urban clavsar Clavs are urban. 00:09:58 Speaker 4: I keep wanting even call him leviculate because that whatever you want. Do you know who that dude is? By the way, the clovicular guy. Have you seen that guy? No? Do you know what he is? 00:10:10 Speaker 5: No, he's like a dude well, I mean, I don't want to get it's not worth going into. But he like he like punches himself in the face until he becomes perfectly beautiful again. 00:10:23 Speaker 3: It sounds like a real intellectual. 00:10:24 Speaker 4: You got there. 00:10:25 Speaker 5: Well, that's why I that he was making all the threes against Florida. 00:10:29 Speaker 3: You need to punch him in the face. Maybe get Brandon Harrison to do it. 00:10:33 Speaker 5: But anyway, he Chandler was on him a little bit in the second half too. I don't know what Chandler really struggled, but now he did hit threes. He did get a couple. He had a couple. True that if he doesn't hit, we're not in the game. I mean he hit him in like key times. 00:10:46 Speaker 4: Yeah. 00:10:47 Speaker 7: With Chandler early, he was going under those screens. I think it was part of the game plan because Lee doesn't have a great percentage. But then the second half, Clovesar was just hitting some bombs. He got hot. Yeah, I'm I'm kind of wanting Chandler to shoot a little bit more. I know he's already shooting quite a bit, but he's got the confidence. He's kind of waiting till late in the game to make his big plays. We all know the big plays down the stretch. But I think Ohway and Aberdeen are like one from ten from three and like twelve for thirty six from the field. I kind of is in as good as those guys have been in other games. I'm ready to see Chandler maybe get a little more selfish with three point shooting and see what that can look like. 00:11:19 Speaker 4: I'm with you, I would love to see Chandler shoot more. 00:11:22 Speaker 5: I mean, I think a relatively open three from Chandler to me is never a bad shot if you I feel like him, kind of like I felt, you know, last year about Kobe Brea or Antonio Reez for a couple of years or whatever. Like if he's open Rynd shooting, I'll live with if it doesn't. 00:11:41 Speaker 6: Go in, especially in a game like Drew said when Aberdeen and old Way not not name to knock it down run some plays get him set. He was such a liability on defense. I think they were afraid to play him a lot of minutes there late in the game. 00:11:52 Speaker 7: He's fourteen for twenty four from three since that Vandy Dudd so I guess four games two weeks. 00:11:58 Speaker 5: I think I saw that under one metric like something like Torvik or something like that, he's the nineteenth ranked player in the country since conference play, like in individual player rankings. 00:12:11 Speaker 4: So shoot, you know, I. 00:12:13 Speaker 5: Mean, I say, take as many as you can. 00:12:18 Speaker 6: Hey, what was your stat on the postgame show about them being behind in twenty five game? They're behind like fifteen of them or something by fifteen point. 00:12:26 Speaker 5: I mean they've been behind by at least fourteen points in twelve of our twenty five games. That's crazy, now, and I want you to consider that seven games this year we've played like awful teams. Okay, so take those out, all right, So that means we've played eighteen games against teams that are from good competition and we've been down fourteen and twelve of those games and in the first half, all of which were well either the first half or like first couple of minutes of second half. 00:13:02 Speaker 4: I mean, you just can't make sense. 00:13:04 Speaker 6: Nope, can't do it. 00:13:05 Speaker 4: You just can't do that. 00:13:06 Speaker 5: I mean, I bet you there are many years where that stat is like Drew three or two, and now it's twelve. I mean, you can't have two of your three games where you get down that much. Now, with that set, it's amazing. In those twelve games, we're four and eight, which is kind of a pretty good record when you consider being down that much. But you just can't do that if you want to consistently, Uh, Drew get wins. 00:13:37 Speaker 9: And it is no way to live. 00:13:39 Speaker 7: It's been fun watching the comebacks and I'm glad they've won eight out of ten and turned a corner. But that this cannot be the product of Kentucky basketball is just hoping the second half they flip the switch and they do a lot. It's fun, but this cannot continue. He has to fix this. We've talked about it for months. No one has the answer. This cannot go on or this will not continue to work there last year, I know. 00:14:01 Speaker 5: But it was like, this is just what's happened since he's been here. 00:14:05 Speaker 7: And you're talking about being down fifteen, Like even being down eight that many times is bad. We're talking about being down fifteen points. That's crazy for a team that's supposed to be good in Kentucky basketball. 00:14:16 Speaker 4: But I wouldn't know. I am encouraged that. 00:14:20 Speaker 5: I think Florida is now one of the five best teams in the country and we were in that game. 00:14:25 Speaker 4: It's not a moral victory. 00:14:26 Speaker 5: I had that guy called the postgame show and he was like, you know, Kentucky basketball is now Indiana and whatever. 00:14:34 Speaker 4: It's not a moral victory. 00:14:35 Speaker 5: But it does make me think that in an NCAA tournament, which we'll talk about a little later, they can win games that I think if you asked me three or four weeks ago, I would have said they could not win. I now think in the right scenario they can win them. But if they keep following behind by fifteen, they'll lose in the first round of the tournament. It won't matter anyway, So Pope's got to get the start of these games better. If I'm nine two eight zero two eight seven text machine seven seven two seven four five two five four, we will take a break and be right back. 00:15:05 Speaker 4: It's Kansar walking back. It is the TUCKI sleg Chevy Dealers. No, it's just it's just Case sitting here, sitting here looking. 00:15:17 Speaker 5: The problem was somebody wrote me and said they didn't put the postgame show on on the uh on podcasts. Then I looked and we did, so I don't know what they're talking about. One person writes, Matt, you mentioned the lunar New Year, and you mentioned Ramadan, but you didn't mention that it's also Fat Tuesday and Lent starts tomorrow. You always try to help other cultures, but don't think about the Christian culture. No, that woman just wasn't on my book, Shannon. I have a book here that has the holidays. Yeah, it does not have Fat Tuesday. It does tomorrow have Ash Wednesday. 00:15:50 Speaker 4: But it does not have that. 00:15:51 Speaker 5: So maybe it's not as nefarious Shannon as people think. It might just be what's on my little book of Holidays right here? 00:15:57 Speaker 3: It's that liberal book you got there? 00:15:59 Speaker 4: Yeah, I did, But true, I bought the liberal books right. 00:16:02 Speaker 3: She got the Conservative Planner Fat Tuesday. 00:16:07 Speaker 4: I did. I was gonna get the Lee Greenwood plan and they didn't. They were out of them. 00:16:14 Speaker 5: Well, speaking of that, uh, but Jesse Jackson died, which I was very which I was sad to see. You know, Drew, you and I did our show once in Jesse Jackson studio. 00:16:26 Speaker 4: Do you remember that? 00:16:28 Speaker 7: That's actually my photo that was on Sports Center with the glasses and the big headphones'll. 00:16:34 Speaker 5: Say, the very famous one where it looks like Drew is about to land a plane. 00:16:38 Speaker 4: That picture, those. 00:16:40 Speaker 9: Are Jesse headphones. 00:16:41 Speaker 4: Those are Jesse Jackson's headphones. We had to do. This was back before we could take. 00:16:46 Speaker 5: These comrades units everywhere, and Drew and I were doing a tour around the country and we got to Chicago. We could and the only studio they could find this was Jesse Jackson Studio. So Drew and I went into Jesse Jackson studio. He had these old head five. I think he had uh Ryan the same headphones from the like from the Civil Rights movement, from like the once he used back then because they were huge, And we did the show and that led us to talk about Jesse Jackson, which led to one of Shannon the famous drops in ks R history. 00:17:16 Speaker 10: Right, yeah, red, yellow, brown, black and white. Right that one here it is there, you go, that's right. 00:17:29 Speaker 5: You remember we used to use that all the time. And you said, you said it, we lost it. 00:17:33 Speaker 4: I guess you had to look that up. 00:17:35 Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, somebody deleted it. 00:17:36 Speaker 4: You know. 00:17:36 Speaker 2: We had this big collection of drops over the years, and I guess some of them got lost throughout the year somehow. 00:17:42 Speaker 4: But you would play that all the time. 00:17:44 Speaker 5: There was like if we were talking about the color of a of a team's mascot or something yell brown, black and. 00:17:55 Speaker 4: So uh RPD. Jesse Jackson. 00:17:57 Speaker 5: He spoke once Ryan at Transylvania when I was in college. And this is kind of a unique part of history in my history. At least he spoke at Transylvania and a fraternity there, the Ka's, you know them Ryan Kappa Alpha Order. 00:18:15 Speaker 4: You ever heard of that? They do that. 00:18:17 Speaker 5: Barley Barley Alfalfa, give them hell Kappa Alpha. 00:18:21 Speaker 6: That was what a great slogan. 00:18:25 Speaker 5: It's not a bad slogan. They got in trouble at Trancy. I don't remember what they did, but it was something that people felt was insensitive racially, and it probably was at the time. And Jesse Jackson was coming and is their punishment, they had to be the bodyguards for Jesse Jackson's speech security, which. 00:18:46 Speaker 4: I always Drew thought was a weird punishment. 00:18:50 Speaker 5: Because it's like, well, how do we know that you're gonna be the ones to actually step up? 00:18:55 Speaker 4: And you know, but that he spoke at Transit and he was very good when I was there. 00:19:00 Speaker 7: Have someone in trouble, way too much responsibility. 00:19:06 Speaker 9: It's like, if you got in trouble, it's like security. 00:19:08 Speaker 4: If you get in trouble, that seems like a weird thing. 00:19:11 Speaker 9: You're in trouble. 00:19:12 Speaker 7: You have to be a fireman tonight, like they need that's a pretty big duty to provide security. 00:19:17 Speaker 9: They need training and someone. 00:19:20 Speaker 4: Do we do that to people go to prison? Didn't make them policemen, Shannon when that happened. 00:19:24 Speaker 3: I don't don't. 00:19:25 Speaker 7: Don't. 00:19:26 Speaker 2: Punishment is you may have to take a bullet today, so stand in front of Jesse Jackson. 00:19:32 Speaker 5: I always thought that was an odd punishment, but anyway, Uh, rest in peace. And there was another famous death, which we'll talk about a little later. It's Kentucky plays Georgia tonight. Drew George's leading scorer has been out the last two games. Was it Jeremiah Wilkerson? Is that his name Wilkinson? Yes, Wilkinson and uh he's been out the last two games, but he is playing tonight, so they will come in to RUP at full strength. 00:19:55 Speaker 4: How do you feel about the game tonight? 00:19:58 Speaker 7: They're on a pretty big slide after I mean they were ranked to start conference play. I think they picked on an easy schedule. Now they're getting to the hard teams. But surprisingly they're one of the highest scoring teams in the country. You're not used to hearing that from a Georgia team. Play with a lot of tempo, and then they call themselves the Dunkyard Dogs. 00:20:14 Speaker 9: Most of what they do is. 00:20:15 Speaker 4: At the rim. They don't. 00:20:17 Speaker 7: Yeah, one out of five made baskets is a dunk. That's pretty crazy themselves. 00:20:22 Speaker 4: The Dunkyard dunk. 00:20:23 Speaker 7: They call themselves that. I'm not calling them that. I'm just telling you when they look in the mirror in the morning, that's what they say to themselves. 00:20:28 Speaker 4: Hey I'm a dunkyard dog. 00:20:29 Speaker 7: Yep, but I mean one in five made baskets being a dunk is pretty wild. And Sampto, the big man, who was a former Kentucky commit, he has thirty more dunks than the guy in second place in the SEC. So rim protection is a lot what they do. They're number one in shot blocking and they're number one in dunks. They're gonna be all around the rim all night. 00:20:48 Speaker 5: I believe he played well against us last year too, Smpto, and he was you know, he was supposed to go here uh at one point. And I believe when we played down there Ryan, I think we got crushed down there last year because we had a watch party I think at the bar and everybody showed up, and I think we got destroyed. 00:21:06 Speaker 4: If I remember correctly, it was over quickly. 00:21:09 Speaker 6: Yeah, I forgot the watch party. I remember they played party was one of the maybe one of their worst losses of the season. But yeah, we had a watch party that night. We were not doing well. 00:21:15 Speaker 9: They also have Blue Caine, who had a big game last year. 00:21:19 Speaker 4: Yeah, Bluekine. 00:21:20 Speaker 5: Who oh, I don't like Blue Caane. I haven't seen Georgia play this year. Blue Kane is back. 00:21:26 Speaker 7: Blue Caane is back. He and Sampto and Wilkinson are the players to know Blue Caine. 00:21:32 Speaker 5: Yeah, well still Kentucky's an eight and a half point favorite. And Ryan, to me, this now is the you look with six games to go, this is the one you just gotta have this in South Carolina. Well, I'll talk about the schedule later. But there's six games. I mean, I think they're all winnable, but two of them. If you want to do what you want to do now this year, you gotta win, and this is one of them. You have to go tonight and you have to take care of business and you have to beat Georgia at home. 00:21:59 Speaker 4: You have to be home. 00:22:00 Speaker 6: And but both games this week you're playing teams that are kind of on the downward spiral. You have Georgia tonight and at Auburn on Saturday. If you're able to lock both of those up, yeah, you definitely put yourself in a great position going in the SEC Tournament. But George is a team, like Drew said, I mean they beat Arkansas or in the year. They were rolling there for a while. Beat Florida, just kind. 00:22:16 Speaker 7: Of didn't They beat Florida there. I know that was Missouri that got Florida, but they were on a roll. They beat Auburn, beat Arkansas. But they are going the wrong way. Just last Saturday, they went to Oklahoma, who isn't very good and got killed. 00:22:32 Speaker 4: That was when the popcorn got on fire. 00:22:34 Speaker 5: Yeah, you need to okay, Shan, we got to play that in the next segment. You got to play the audio of the announcer with the popcorn. It's great audio that we played on ESPN Sunday. They're announcing and the popcorn machine catches on fire, blazing and by the way, Burt popcorn smells the worst and gets stuck in your nose. So they might be stuck in their nose when they play tonight, and they might be a little distracted. 00:23:01 Speaker 9: TJ Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ. He'll make them pay. 00:23:06 Speaker 4: Now. 00:23:06 Speaker 2: More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. 00:23:09 Speaker 3: Here's Matt Jones. 00:23:11 Speaker 5: Are Tonight is our last nine o'clock game that'll make Ryan happy. Although I'm not making Ryan STAMPANDU game show, I'm doing it. 00:23:21 Speaker 4: Thanks Dad, you know you I could stay up for it. It's fine. It'll be a late one, but it is a home game at RUP. 00:23:30 Speaker 5: You guys feel good about the crowd for a nine o'clock game after the team's been playing well. I mean, there's only three home games left, so you need. 00:23:37 Speaker 4: To go while you can. 00:23:40 Speaker 7: I feel good. I just said three games left. There's also double header potential with baseball starting at four today in Lexington. I think we'll see a good crowd with the news. 00:23:50 Speaker 5: You could do a complete UK dah gasball ksbar pregame basketball and. 00:23:57 Speaker 7: I am the beginning of Yeah, I'm perfect. And the weather's gonna be great today for baseball's opening day. You know they tried to keep us from watching him in Greensboro over the weekend. When do you want us see it on television? So now we can actually go watch them in the lead up to our nine pm game with us. I think is Tom hart tonight too big day? 00:24:15 Speaker 5: All right, let's talk about UK baseball for just a second. Beats you and c Greensboro by like a million in all three games. But Ryan Tyler Pell, the all everything player who was supposed to be one of the best players in the country. He gets hurt, they say he's out in definitely a lot of rumors out there, maybe out for the year. It's a tough, tough loss for this team the first game of the season, like in the sixth inning, to lose maybe your best player. 00:24:43 Speaker 6: I hate it for the kid first game of the year. He's he's a he's your leader. They voted him the hardest working player on the team as a freshman last year. And for this guy who you know, come back to Kentucky, tried to, you know, dedicate himself to be a better pro, Gonna be in the gonna be in the big league someday, for this to happen in this year, another shoulder injury. Also, another star player at Kentucky has another shoulder injury. 00:25:04 Speaker 5: That's three of them. But it's still random Shannon. But that's three of them in two years for major UK players, I mean not just not just secondary UK players, major players Lamtt Butler, Jaylen Lowe and now the star baseball player all on the shoulder. 00:25:19 Speaker 2: Just bad luck, right, I mean, I don't think you can blame those straight the conditioning coaches on This is just things that happen. 00:25:25 Speaker 5: Now they did have a positive stat That's crazy, and I need you baseball guys to tell me how crazy this is. All right, over the course of the three games, Kentucky attempted twenty three steals and they got all twenty three. They stole twenty three bases on twenty three attempts in three games. 00:25:45 Speaker 3: It's got to be a record. 00:25:46 Speaker 4: That has to be a record, right, Like they that either. 00:25:51 Speaker 5: This team is going to steal a million bases this year, or the catcher at U and C Greensboro is the worst player. 00:25:57 Speaker 3: Maybe have a shoulder injury throw. 00:26:00 Speaker 5: You know, but is that not I mean, Ryan, you've put you were a bass stealer? 00:26:04 Speaker 4: Is that not one of the crazier stats ever? 00:26:07 Speaker 6: I just think about that. That's seven or eight steals a game. That's amazing, just in one game. To steal seven eight bases in one game. They did it three games in a row. Of course, I love it. I love everything about it. Maybe they finally took my advice and you know, did gonna run the bases a little more, steal some more bases. That's how baseball's won to steal the bases. 00:26:24 Speaker 4: You mean you took your advice. 00:26:25 Speaker 6: I've been pounding that drum for years that teams don't steal enough basses anymore. Man run put a put the pressure on the defense to make a play. 00:26:33 Speaker 5: Have you, Drew, do you remember him pounding the table that Kentucky should steal more bases. 00:26:39 Speaker 7: I don't have like an instance that comes to mind right away, but I'm still running through the timeline of Ryan lemn. 00:26:44 Speaker 9: It might pop up, but not right now. No, I don't remember that. 00:26:48 Speaker 4: I said that. 00:26:49 Speaker 5: You said that they listened to you. Have you been sure telling Nick min On that? 00:26:53 Speaker 11: Well? 00:26:54 Speaker 4: Remember you ever? 00:26:55 Speaker 5: Like when he did those motivational mondays, Shannon, do you remember. 00:26:59 Speaker 4: Him saying steal mores? 00:27:01 Speaker 3: Ryan period? 00:27:02 Speaker 2: Never cut off a motivational speech to talk about stolen bases. 00:27:06 Speaker 5: Ever, And I feel like, isn't Nick mini known for stealing bases? 00:27:10 Speaker 4: Isn't that his thing? Yeah? 00:27:11 Speaker 3: Yeah, aggressively. 00:27:13 Speaker 4: Look I've left that's like, that's like his thing. Why are you trying to take credit for it? 00:27:18 Speaker 6: I've left him some messages. I even send him a fact trying you need to steal more bases? They did? 00:27:24 Speaker 5: You're gonna take credit for Nick min On playing the style of baseball that I think he's played from day one. 00:27:31 Speaker 6: I think he studied some Kentucky Wesley and tape back in the day when I stole five bases against Lindsay Wilson in one game. 00:27:37 Speaker 3: Do you think you can maybe send him a cameo. 00:27:38 Speaker 2: To encourage him to steal more basis like the second great idea? 00:27:42 Speaker 3: I think I will. 00:27:44 Speaker 4: I feel like he stole twenty three. I feel like they're on the right path. 00:27:47 Speaker 3: I just feel bad for the catcher here. I mean they were picking on the poor guy. 00:27:50 Speaker 2: He clearly can't throw the ball from home plate to second base to get anybody out. 00:27:53 Speaker 3: I mean, if you're great, you. 00:27:54 Speaker 4: Think you think it had to be that the catcher was. 00:27:56 Speaker 3: It's terrible. 00:27:57 Speaker 6: You're steal the base off the picture though not there the catcher. 00:28:01 Speaker 7: I'm just I'm trying to play with Ryan's suggestion. I'm looking last year and Kentucky led the sec about over thirty steel attempts. I mean, they're already doing quite a bit of stealing as it is you want them to do. 00:28:12 Speaker 5: Literally are jumping on and taking credit for something that I think Minjeon's been doing for years. 00:28:19 Speaker 6: Yeah, I think you finally saw my messages in that facts I sent over like years ago, like, hey, we don't want we leave the SEC. We need to lead the nation. We need to steal more bases. 00:28:27 Speaker 4: Interesting, Okay, so you think it's not because the catcher, it's because the pictures. 00:28:31 Speaker 6: Are you steal the bases off the pitcher, not the catcher. Gotta get a good joint. 00:28:34 Speaker 3: The catcher has a weak arm, and that doesn't help. 00:28:37 Speaker 6: True, it doesn't help. 00:28:38 Speaker 3: I just I wonder why Greensborough didn't put a new catcher in anyway. 00:28:41 Speaker 7: All right, well Roan didn't tell him to. It's yeah, right, I just got to get the plan and get it out there. 00:28:46 Speaker 4: But I love it Ryan Is. I had no idea he played such a crucial role in this this record. Who's next, Dave, Dave? 00:28:55 Speaker 11: Go ahead, Dave, Hey, just one more point on the Florida game. I know you've already finished the recap. But the play where he pulled them down by the shirt and tripped him. Yes, if they're going to review that call. Yeah, you said that they couldn't change the call, but it wouldn't. It wasn't that they couldn't change the call. They didn't call the flagrant, which it definitely was by the by the letter of the law. 00:29:26 Speaker 4: There no wait, mane, I thought they called the foul on us, right. 00:29:31 Speaker 11: They did, but when they did the reviews, they could have called the flagrant on the I don't. 00:29:36 Speaker 4: Think they can. I don't. I don't. 00:29:38 Speaker 5: I think and I could be wrong about this, but I think if they don't call the foul on the floor, I don't think they're allowed to change it unless it's like a what do you call it like, unless it's like physical harm. 00:29:55 Speaker 4: Well, yes, but I don't. 00:29:58 Speaker 5: I mean, you may right, because you're right it is when it's a flagrant, but I always consider it like a fight. I don't know that you can just call an in ball flagrant if you didn't call the foul either way, it's a terrible call with you. 00:30:12 Speaker 11: Definitely a flagrant one. 00:30:16 Speaker 4: Yeah, but it was in but it was like during the game. 00:30:20 Speaker 5: It wasn't after the whistle, right, so it was I don't know what they what the word is. 00:30:24 Speaker 11: And that's a momentum killer too, we had momentary. 00:30:29 Speaker 5: Yeah, it was a terrible call. I appreciate the call. It was a terrible call, and Drew it was a momentum killer. I mean, you know, they they called that foul on Diabate. Diabata gets pulled to the ground and it ends up being a foul on him, and then I think the fact that it was reviewed just makes people even matter. But you took the time to look at it and then didn't change it. 00:30:47 Speaker 7: It's a it's a good home whistle. Everybody should have a good home whistle. I just it makes me mad that Lexington does not have one. That's a call that we wouldn't Florida gets at home. If it were flipped, we wouldn't get that at home. 00:30:59 Speaker 4: Do you feel like we don't get the home whistle other teams do? 00:31:03 Speaker 7: Every team thinks their team, every fan thinks their team is wronged. But I think it's a fair complaint for Kentucky fans to think that the refs aren't helping us out at home a little bit. 00:31:13 Speaker 5: Okay, I'm not saying you wrong. I it does feel like to me, I don't feel like. It does feel like to me that we get the negative whistle we get on the road is greater than the positive we get it rough, but that makes me sound like a conspiracy theorist. But it does feel like, like, you know, I felt it. I certainly felt it in that game. Think about the Arkansas game, right, I mean, with all, with all that happened during that that felt like the momentum of the crowd carried Dugshalls to go down in a direction. And I don't always feel like we get that at rough, although I'm sure other teams think we do. 00:31:49 Speaker 6: I've always felt like that the home whistle is real, but I agree with you guys, it's just not as evident in Rupperena. I think because the refs they walk into up they know it's a special place. It's just like when players walk into up they know it's a special place you get to play, so they want to be They don't want to show any favoritism at all to the home team. But I do think the home whistle's real. Though on the road in other places. 00:32:08 Speaker 5: Well, I think the I think refs get into the energy of the game, and the reality is if you make a call when the energy is good for the home team, if you make a call against the other team, everybody cheers and like you're kind of a star for a moment. And I don't know if there's been research, but I have to think there's there has been research Shanon that you get better calls at home. 00:32:31 Speaker 4: I just have to think that's true. 00:32:33 Speaker 2: Yeah, it does feel like they get caught up in the momentum of the excitement and energy and it's almost like they're cheering for them, or they feel like they're at least cheering for them. 00:32:41 Speaker 5: And especially back when they used to call a lot of charges right because they love to give rate and throw their. 00:32:47 Speaker 3: Hips and you know, it's game tonight. 00:32:50 Speaker 4: So yeah, oh we have Pat Adams. 00:32:53 Speaker 5: Oh goodness, here we go. Who's next? By the way, I don't know the guy's name. We know Doug Shows and Pat adams name, but the guy that we had Saturday might be. 00:33:01 Speaker 4: My least favorite SEC official. His name Core is his Jones something Jones Jones Jones. 00:33:12 Speaker 5: That dude I feel like hates us more than anybody. It's just we don't know his name. I remember it because it's Jones. But every time I see that guy, I'm not happy. 00:33:21 Speaker 3: Bluegrass is next? 00:33:22 Speaker 4: Bluegrass? He got about a minute go ahead. 00:33:26 Speaker 8: I hope this take is good, man, because I kept getting cut off. But anyway, I'll just be quick. Haven't you guys noticed that we were having some trouble with really speedy guards man. I mean, we've got good guard defenders, but we're having some trouble with the speed. Like the Vanderbilt guy kind of dies this up Lee was too quick for us. I'm not saying our guards can't defend. I'm just saying it looks like that quickness. That's my first thing. It got a little bit of like we need some help on that, and I don't know what we can do is. 00:34:02 Speaker 11: Go ahead, No, go ahead, No, I go ahead because I'm second point. 00:34:06 Speaker 8: The second. The second point is Chandler. I think he might be better at garden the three and it's let always hit the two. Just floord a little bit more quickness, because look at the job he did on Amen. He did good on you. Half. 00:34:20 Speaker 4: We could do, we could well, we can't. 00:34:23 Speaker 5: It's hard to do because you gotta guard because uh, the Florida had three bigs and always our best chance at having a guard to uh to guard a big. 00:34:31 Speaker 4: I appreciate the call. This segment sids to you by. 00:34:33 Speaker 5: Surf Pro Number one choice and clean up in restoration, whether it's mold, fire storm, or water damage. We got a pro for that. Kisr uh, don't tell me. Wait a minute, this is James addiction. Yeah, we saw that story I told about when my when I had to go to the Metallica concert by myself and then I lost you in pairing. 00:35:13 Speaker 4: After that story. 00:35:14 Speaker 3: Yeah, Louder than these. 00:35:16 Speaker 4: Guys played too, right before Metallica. 00:35:18 Speaker 3: That's right. Yep, they punched each other in the face on stage and broke up. 00:35:22 Speaker 4: That's right. Yes, but this was a larger than life. Yeah, and uh it was. 00:35:28 Speaker 5: I saw James and I thought they were great. I thought Metallica was great. I just was by myself, and you know. 00:35:35 Speaker 2: We'll get your back out there again. The lineup comes out Monday for this and noah, no, I don't know. They don't tell us anything. 00:35:43 Speaker 4: So Bourbon and Beyond and Larger than Life they're coming out soon. 00:35:46 Speaker 2: Louder than Life next Monday. Bourbon and Beyond is tomorrow at noon, right after the show. 00:35:51 Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, always do it after the show. I don't understand that. One person writes Matt, I do agree. Teams get home whistles. Who do you think gets the best one? Well, dude gets the best. Duke Duke's home whistle is crazy and it's it's less now than it was during the coach k years, but it still exists. And then I think the best home whistle, actually, Duke is the most consistent, But the best home whistle, Drew is Kansas on Monday Night. 00:36:19 Speaker 9: Oh yeah, Kan. 00:36:22 Speaker 5: On Monday nights, Kansas gets the craziest home I will never bet against Kansas on Monday Night because they get the craziest whistle of all time. 00:36:33 Speaker 7: Yeah, those are the easy answers. I didn't even give Kansas a slight nod. I can't think of an exact moment, but I feel like I've been watching games there's just been some blatant calls. 00:36:43 Speaker 4: At the end of the game. 00:36:44 Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean they Honestly, night is the easiest bet in sports. 00:36:49 Speaker 7: I'm trying to play it back. I was there the year Kentucky played there and went to overtime. Uless was the point guard. 00:36:54 Speaker 9: Didn't we get. 00:36:55 Speaker 7: Kind of hosed at the end there on something or am I making that up in my head? I remember a tight game and it felt like at the end they got one of those bounces that was pretty questionable right in front of us. 00:37:04 Speaker 4: You know, I don't remember, you know what I think. I think you're right, really close. That was the Uless Murray game, right. 00:37:12 Speaker 9: I feel like something happened there that really shoot off. 00:37:15 Speaker 5: There was something that happened in that game, and I don't remember what it was, but you are exactly right about that, So maybe somebody can remember what we did get host at the very end, we were very mad. 00:37:26 Speaker 4: I do remember that one person, rites Matt. 00:37:29 Speaker 5: One of the things I've never understood about Jesse Jackson is why he and Obama never got along. 00:37:34 Speaker 4: Yeah, that's an interesting thing. 00:37:35 Speaker 5: They didn't like each other really, even though they both were like black leaders from Chicago. But I always thought, Channon, sometimes you can be like somebody can be like too much like you. 00:37:47 Speaker 4: Yeah. 00:37:47 Speaker 3: Do you think maybe it was like a rivalry or something like that. 00:37:50 Speaker 4: Jesse Jackson wanted to be the first He wanted to be the first black president. That Obama did. 00:37:54 Speaker 3: Yep, so little professional jealousy sounds. 00:37:57 Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean that happens. You know that can happen, Ryan Levan, You've seen that in our world, where people have like a jealousy that leads to them being kind of not getting along, right. 00:38:09 Speaker 6: Yeah, people are human sometimes. But I remember Jesse Jackson was ran for president like twice in the eighties. It seems like keep hope alive. That was a big slogan. 00:38:18 Speaker 4: Yeah, he did, and at one point was a real contender one of those years. I think. 00:38:22 Speaker 5: So we have to talk. We have to talk about Obama and the alien Shannon, But I'm gonna. 00:38:25 Speaker 4: Wait Doro that. 00:38:26 Speaker 3: Yeah, I heard what he said. 00:38:27 Speaker 4: Because when I saw it, I thought, oh, I'm gonna have the answer for this. 00:38:31 Speaker 3: Then he clarified and then. 00:38:33 Speaker 5: Well he did, and thankfully because I was worried about it. When I just saw the clip, I thought, Oh, Shannon's not gonna let me live this day. 00:38:41 Speaker 4: You just still be worried about it. 00:38:43 Speaker 3: He's still right. 00:38:43 Speaker 4: We'll talk about it. Let's not that we won't spoil We're gonna do that to start the second hour. 00:38:46 Speaker 5: But we do have to talk about Obama and the aliens, because it almost well, it made my argument tougher for at least twenty four hours. 00:38:54 Speaker 3: Yeah, who's next, Let's go to Bryce? 00:38:58 Speaker 4: Bryce? 00:38:58 Speaker 12: Go ahead, Bryce, Hey, I love the show. Good question. 00:39:02 Speaker 11: Have they all seen start. 00:39:04 Speaker 12: Going around on Twitter last night about Tyron Stokes and how Kansas might be drawn a line right now with a KNACKI deal? Have you seen anything about that? 00:39:15 Speaker 4: So? 00:39:16 Speaker 5: I did see that there was someone tweeted out now, and Drew, you may have to clarify for me what is what I heard and what's reality? 00:39:24 Speaker 4: Because I wasn't online a ton last night. 00:39:26 Speaker 5: I heard that there was an account that said that Tyron Stokes Kentucky had re gotten momentum, that's the number one player in the country, and that they and that Kansas for whatever reason, they might not be working out, et cetera. But then I was told that the guy who did the accounts like a seventeen year old kid in Indiana and people didn't understand why they were listening to him. 00:39:45 Speaker 4: Is that true, Drew? I mean, who is that guy that wrote that? 00:39:49 Speaker 7: I didn't recognize that there's something behind a paywall? And I'm already out of paywall money. I have too many paywalls I'm paying for. So I didn't see the full quote, but my understanding is the new kind of development is Kansas is still the leader, but the Stokes are like, all right, let's get this done. If not, we're going to reach out to other people see if they're ready to get something done. So it's kind of like they're putting pressure on Kansas to meet the number, I guess and get this over with. If not, they are going to re entertain some or entertain some other places they were considered before if Kansas keeps dragging their feet. 00:40:21 Speaker 4: Yeah. 00:40:21 Speaker 5: So I don't know the answer to your question, sir. For me, that story all comes down to who is the person that wrote it? And I don't know this person. I think their name was like Mike Vernon and I don't know who that is. Yes it was, but somebody told me that's like a seventeen year old kid in Indiana. So that doesn't mean he doesn't know what he's talking about. There are a lot of young people, like when Evan Daniels was in college, he was killing it and he was in college, so I'm not saying he doesn't know. But like for me, just because I see a story that's on like an Instagram, UK page. I need to know who the person was that wrote it, And since I don't know that guy, I can't really say one way or the other. 00:41:04 Speaker 12: I got the yeah, Kansas fans is actually going crazy. They we don't want him anyway. 00:41:08 Speaker 4: So I was just like, yeah, people want him. He's number one player in America. 00:41:13 Speaker 5: Appreciate the call, you know, in a in a freshman class that is considered to be much more down than most freshman classes, he's the number one player and he's the real Now he comes with a lot of like he's got if he comes here. I mean, I think he's gonna go to Kansas, but if he comes here, like people don't have to be like he's he comes with a. 00:41:33 Speaker 4: Lot of baggage. But we don't have any recruits Ryning, So you know, I don't know. I don't know. 00:41:40 Speaker 5: If you're a beggar, if you can, if you can get get to picky as to who you get. 00:41:45 Speaker 6: I think I think there is some baggage. I think there are some personality issues that come into play. But you're right, when the number one player in the country has a change, you had a chance. 00:41:52 Speaker 4: To get him. 00:41:52 Speaker 6: You have to go get him. You have to overlook that and hopefully. 00:41:55 Speaker 4: You and you know if Kansas wants him. I don't know. I don't know if we're in a position to go We're too good for that. 00:42:02 Speaker 5: True, But again I don't know how much I believe that story because I don't know who that is. Maybe he's right, though, Like again, I just don't know the kids, so I can't I can't say a five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven text machine seven seven two seven to seven four five two five four We'll come back, take a break, and now I'm gonna see if Shannon has one on me on alien, so we'll be right back.
