00:00:58
Speaker 3: There's a little bit of move with the point.

00:01:01
Speaker 2: Spreads for March Madness and for entertainment purposes. Purdue yesterday was favored by seven and a half against Texas. Now it's six and a half Nebraska. It was one and a half against Iowa, still one and a half that they're favored. Arizona was favored by eight and a half yesterday against Arkansas, now seven and a half. Houston was favored by two and a half. Now it's three and a half against Illinois, and Michigan against Alabama. Michigan was favored by ten and a half yesterday, now it's nine and a half. Also the odds to win the tournament, Arizona is a slight favorite over Michigan. Then it's Duke, and then it drops down to Houston. Then it drops down even further to Purdue, Illinois, Iowa State. Yukon surprisingly is what eighth on this list, but Arizona and Michigan duke in there and then Houston and at plus seven hundred, then Purdue plus thirteen hundred, Illinois plus fourteen hundred, Iowa State plus seventeen hundred, then Yukon plus twenty five hundred, and then it starts to dip down to Michigan State, Saint John's, Arkansas, Nebraska, Tennessee, Iowa, Alabama, and Texas, Texas the longest of shots at plus thirty thousand for entertainment purposes only, all right e eight seven seven three DP show email address DP at Danpatrick dot com, Twitter handle at DP show operator Tyler sitting by. He'll take your phone calls if you listen to the program. You know what I think of Victor weinbin Yama that if he doesn't win the MVP this year, it's going to be his next year, because this is a coming out party. He was a curiosity and then I wanted to see him with a good point guard. I wanted to see him kind of figure out he knew how to play defense. I wanted to see if he knew how to play offense, where to kind of find his spots. Well, he's finding his spots now and he's making a case a late run from MVP.

00:03:03
Speaker 4: Now.

00:03:04
Speaker 2: I've been pretty staunch supporter of SGA that he is going to get the MVP. I don't think he's the best player in the game, but it's not always given to the best player in the game. You have to decide whatever your definition of value is. Do I think OKAC is a playoff team without SGA. I do now Is that fair to him? Is San Antonio a playoff team without Wembenyama?

00:03:29
Speaker 3: I don't think they are.

00:03:32
Speaker 2: Jalen Brown quietly carried the Celtics while Jason Tatum was out. I still think Jokers the best player in the game. He's a statistical anomaly. But this is where it becomes a little bit more of Okay, people want to know this guy play defense? Does that guy play defense? Jalen Brunson does he play defense?

00:03:56
Speaker 3: No?

00:03:57
Speaker 2: I don't know if Kid Cunningham plays defense. I don't know if SGA plays defense. I know Victor Webbinyama plays defense. And when you think about it, he's going to be the defensive player of the year. So at one end of the floor, he's the best player in the game, no doubt, best player in the game. How much does that count? How much does that matter to voters? It seems to matter when we want to vote against somebody. When you say, yeah, but he doesn't play any defense. Okay, Now you've got a guy who's the best defensive player in the game, who is going to give you, you know, twenty two and twelve and three or four blocks every single night. So at the other end, he's still very high level. Last night, webban Yama had twenty six, fifteen and five blocks. So over the last three years, there have been eleven games in the NBA where a player has had those numbers. Wemby has six of the eleven games. Anthony Davis is the only player with more than one. Dad of the Day brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards of the program. But I want you to listen to Victor wemban Yama after the game last night, and I want to remind you that he's only twenty two years of age, But listen to he's just kind of matter of fact, pragmatic, just like, hey, should I be the MVP, here's Victor wembn Yama.

00:05:37
Speaker 5: My first one would be that defense is sixty percent of the game and that it is undervalue so far in the interview race, because I believe I'm the most impectful player defensively in the league. The second argument would be we almost swept Okay seeing this season, and we dominated him three times with their real team and four times with year. My third argument would be that offense impact is not just for us.

00:06:12
Speaker 2: It's just a matter of fact. Now I will say, if Lebron had said something like this, you know the media would be crushing him. But he's twenty two. He's stating his case and he's right. They won twenty two of their last twenty four. They are a real force in the West. They're a real force to be able to play for a championship. And if you watch them the previous years, they weren't a very good team. But he's finding his spots. He can shoot a three, he can take it to the hoop. He worked out with Jamal Crawford, who had one of the better handles in the history of the NBA. So Wemby in the off season worked with Jamal Crawford because he wanted to a seven to five guy, wanted to improve his and he has. But then you have him at the other end. He can guard the three, and he can guard the rim, and he doesn't have to take more than a couple of steps. He is truly unique, and he's only twenty two years of age. So when we start to equate value, that's where it's open to interpretation. Is he the best player in the game, No, he's the most unique player in the game.

00:07:28
Speaker 3: Yes.

00:07:29
Speaker 2: Is he going to be the best player in the game. Yes, now there's a late push for Luka Doncic. Now he's leading and scoring. I understand that the Lakers have played well, they lost last night, But how much do I give credence to he doesn't play defense. If Wemby is an A plus on the defensive end, and let's say he's an A minus on the offensive end, does anybody match up with those grades? And the answer is nobody. And if if I look at what his team has done more importantly, we tend to look if the Spurs had the best record in the West, Wemby would win the MVP. But should it be that his team isn't as good as OKC but his value? Look at what they've done. Now it's not a oh you got to see the Spurs their curiosity. Now it's like OKC doesn't want San Antonio. They're going to do their best to avoid because Wemby can't wait to play against Chad Holmgern. And that's another thing that I love. You know what happened at the All Star Game. Wemby cared and the other players started to care. I love the enthusiasm, and it matters he cares. He plays hard like these are all the things you want, And he wasn't cocky. He was just let me lay this out to you in case you haven't thought of this, and make a case. He's not gonna win the MVP, but he should be finishing second. And he's only twenty two, which is remarkable when you look at the skill of any player that if he was six, I mean, he's Kevin Durant plus seven inches. And at the other end, he's the best defensive player in the game now. Katie obviously a better offensive player, but not for much longer, because once Wemby starts hitting the mid range jumper, he can shoot a three, and he can go to the hole. You're gonna have to pick your poison with him because he'll.

00:09:39
Speaker 3: Make you pay.

00:09:40
Speaker 2: You're gonna let me shoot the three, you're gonna let me drive to the hoop, or you're gonna give me that mid range jumper. And if I'm Wemby, I'd be pounding that mid range jumper. I'd make you pay because then once you come out, I'm going by you. And then the defensive end, it's remarkable to watch him. He can he can cover both sides of the lane. He can go out to the three, he can guard the rim. Yeah, Paul, he.

00:10:11
Speaker 6: Had a block last night where the guy beat him and was going for a reverse layup. He was on the back side of the rim, reach across the net and blocked it from the backside. It was freakish.

00:10:23
Speaker 2: It's remarkable, and you got have to go out of your way to sometimes find the spurs when they're playing. And okay, see for that matter, to be fair to SGA, but with Wemby, it's such I mean, you're watching you're watching history, and look, I've been around this game for almost sixty years. Like this is truly truly unique with what we're seeing. But there are other players that I thought could be like this. I thought Ralph Samson could be like this. I thought Sean Bradley could be like this. Guys who were that tall build could run and they had great touch. This is different. This is unique.

00:11:06
Speaker 3: Now.

00:11:07
Speaker 2: You know, we talk about people changing the game, Steph Curry changed the game more than any other player in history. Well, you can be Steph Curry because he's six two sixty three, Like you can go out there and go I can shoot that shot. You can't be seven to five so you know they had the campaign to be like Mike. Well, nobody could be like Mike, but we would like to be like Mike. We can be like Steph Curry in our mind. We can't be like Wimby.

00:11:35
Speaker 3: Yeah.

00:11:35
Speaker 6: Point, Maybe women Yama changes your game because you have to play defense completely differently on him. Your offense, you can't take normal jumpers. And I was looking how he's finishing the season. In the month of March, he's up to twenty seven points per game, he's up to twelve rebounds, he's up to four blocks. Though he's having his best month of his season right now.

00:11:56
Speaker 2: And this is what I mean. This has to count for something a little bit more. You know, this is getting ready for playoff position. You've won twenty two to twenty four. Now OKC is won twelve in a row. SGA gives you twenty a night. And maybe it's not fair to him. He's not exciting. He's a great closer, but he's known for what drawing founds. That's first thing you think of, Oh, he's really good at drawing founds, which I don't have a problem with. I think NBA officials have to relearn how to officiate today's game. Because you can call holding in past interference on just about every play in the NFL, you have to decide how often you're gonna call it. It's not there isn't a penalty, it's do you want to call that? And in the NBA, and this is the death of the NBA some nights where you're watching and it's forever, we watch this in March madness, Like there are games.

00:12:53
Speaker 3: Where you go, God, how long is this? Is this the same game we've been watching?

00:12:59
Speaker 2: It's I think the officials got to relearn on what they're looking for and what you're going to call. Because if I'm SGA, just like James Harden, can I get away with this? I'm going to continue to do it. All the great players and even that you know the players who aren't great, they try to get away with this. But if I can push off, you're not going to call it. If I can draw fouls', you're going to call those. I go to the line, You're going to continue to do it. But I think it's incumbent upon the commissioner and the officials to look at the game and decide how you want to call this game, because there's nothing better than when the game flows where it's back and forth and back and forth. It's you know, it's not do it. Nobody wants to see that. But Wemby, I'm going to see him in person.

00:13:53
Speaker 7: Yeah, Mark, is there Statford shots altered because it's almost like Max Crosby or Hurries like, you know what. He might win Defensive Player of the Year just off of the shots that he alters, never mind the shots that he actually blocks, because he makes you think twice about even putting up a three point right.

00:14:11
Speaker 2: I'm sure that they have stats on that of affecting a shot. But when you think about it, there's only one other player in the NBA. When you think defense, you think this guy, and it's Rudy Gobert. But that's all he does and he is nowhere near in the area code of Victor win Benyama. Rudy Gobert is going to the Hall of Fame because he has four Defensive Player of the Year awards.

00:14:41
Speaker 3: He will be a Hall of Famer.

00:14:44
Speaker 2: Wemby is going to do that and then everything he does on the offensive ent Yes.

00:14:49
Speaker 4: Mark, I'll go back to the Olympics.

00:14:51
Speaker 7: Rudy Gobert was not on the floor for the US versus France in the gold medal game. Hey, you're the defensive player of the Year four times. Remember Wemby was supposed to win Defensive Player of the Year as a rookie.

00:15:01
Speaker 3: He should have.

00:15:02
Speaker 2: He should have absolutely, But sometimes you know, people get into this, Oh yeah, i'll vote for him, and I'll vote for him.

00:15:09
Speaker 3: And we don't talk about defense.

00:15:12
Speaker 2: Now, look at these points in the NBA, like you're getting one hundred and thirty and you're losing games, but you got a guy who cares about playing defense, who plays it at a very high level, no pun intended, and that has to be factored into the MVP. I don't know if it will. And once again, I think SGA is going to win. They've been the best team, defending champs. He's consistent, he scores twenty a night. But they're the best team. Yes, Mark, And.

00:15:45
Speaker 7: If the Spurs and are Thunder meet in the playoffs, if SGA wins the MVP Award, or wins the MVP Award over Wemby, you think he hated OKAC before. He's going to go nuclear on OKC in the playoffs if he sees them.

00:15:59
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, this is a rivalry. It's a true rivalry. And you could hear him he said, hey, look we beat them when they had their lineup, we beat them three times.

00:16:07
Speaker 1: I like it.

00:16:09
Speaker 2: But at twenty two, I know, we love the story. And I always go back to how would the media have treated Lebron at twenty two if you said, you know, I'm the best player, this is what I do. Nobody does what I do. Wemby, it just feels like the way he said it got a little bit of his French accent in there, and you're like.

00:16:31
Speaker 3: Okay, all right, yeah, I'm all right, all right, I believe you. I'm behind into this.

00:16:36
Speaker 6: Yeah, Paul, I know there's only ten games remaining. Thunder or fifty seven wins, Spurs have fifty four wins. If somehow the Spurs steal the one seed in the East with how much would that affect the MVP voting. It's possible.

00:16:49
Speaker 3: It's striking dim then well yeah it's possible.

00:16:52
Speaker 2: It's three games, but you know, Okac is not losing now, you know they they're back to full strength. Feels like, but if the Spurs maintain this, I mean this might be one of those ten years from now we look back and say, wait, why didn't Wemby win it that year? I mean, it might be that way, but it's fun to watch. It's fun to watch the growth that you see of you know, he was kind of not awkward because he had a flow to his game, a rhythm to his game, but he didn't know where to stand in the NBA. He was getting roughed up, knocked out of the paint, and then he finally got a point guard and he positioned him.

00:17:33
Speaker 3: Yeah.

00:17:34
Speaker 8: I imagine, yeah, that watching Wemby right now is similar to what it must have been like to see Wilt Chamberlain play. They like, there's one dude out here that is just different. It's a totally different level. Yes, all right, let me take a break. I know I get carried away. I have a friend who's a Boston Celtic fan. He's already responding to me. Oh, here we go with a Wemby love.

00:17:57
Speaker 2: Yep, here is the Wemby low of WHIMVP. All right, we'll take a break. We'll come up with the poll question. We got Clark Kellogg and Reggie Miller a little later on. We're back after this.

00:18:09

00:18:25
Speaker 1: Yeah.

00:18:25
Speaker 9: But instead of us telling you how great we are, here's how Dan Patrick described us when he came on our show.

00:18:31
Speaker 2: Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated.

00:18:35
Speaker 1: What what are you doing interrupting our promo? Yeah, you wasn't talking about you.

00:18:39
Speaker 7: You took those clips totally of context.

00:18:42
Speaker 9: Oh yeah, Well after this promo, I'm gonna take you out and beat you.

00:18:46
Speaker 1: Let me put this into context. Shut up.

00:18:48
Speaker 9: Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Paully and Toni Fusco Show on iHeartRadio, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

00:18:55
Speaker 2: Yee Baseball's Opening Day, Oh, by the way, tomorrow San Francisco Giants and the New York Yankees on Netflix. As Netflix tries to delve further into live sports, poll question Seaton for the first hour of the program, you got one.

00:19:15
Speaker 8: We've got a few options here from the to double D. You see, the only reasonable thing to do to balance Yukon women's hoop dominance. Is make the Huskies have just four players on the court or allowing opposing teams to have six players on the court.

00:19:31
Speaker 3: Okay, gotta do something. Yeah.

00:19:34
Speaker 2: Connecticut won handily over Syracuse yesterday and the Syracuse women's basketball coach Felicia Lagette Jack had this to say about playing Connecticut every March.

00:19:51
Speaker 10: For us to do what we've done, to continuously have to come to Yukon and every single school that I go to from Buffalo is unfair to.

00:20:03
Speaker 3: The young people.

00:20:03
Speaker 10: I don't know what it is. Somebody said, is there something that they might have against me? If that's the case, and we need to communicate about that. But for us to be what we've done in our body of work to have to come and play that best team in the country, I mean, Gino has this thing going and he is I love what he's done, but we I thought deserved a little more respect after being in his business for thirty seven years, and to have to come and be in this particular bracket every freaking year is unacceptable.

00:20:39
Speaker 3: All right, No, it's not a neutral site.

00:20:41
Speaker 2: This is what the you know women's tournament does they want to take advantage of local fan bases here. They don't want a neutral site where maybe you don't get large crowds. They want atmosphere here. Connecticut is the number one team in the country. Connecticut and Syracuse have been five times in the NCAA Tournament since twenty s sixteen. They met in the national title game in twenty sixteen. The last four games have been in the round of thirty two. Yukon has won those games by an average of thirty one points. I understand coach is going to be sensitive. You could see it and you could hear it in her voice, But you got humiliated. It didn't matter where you were playing. You gotta be honest about that. Did you have your team prepared? And if your team is worthy of twenty seven wins or whatever you had on the season, you certainly didn't showcase that. And you're eventually going to have to play Connecticut because they're going to continue to win. I don't think this has anything to do that she coached at Buffalo or Indiana or wherever else and now at Syracuse, that the tournament is going to go. You know who, We're going to embarrass. We're going to embarrass Syracuse. Now, I think that's unfair to Connecticut. Connecticut and Gino Oriama has makes no apologies. Gino says, hey, you have to raise your game, come up to us. They're not coming back down to you. And I think they made the announcement last night like a one hundred million dollar renovation arena, locker rooms. I mean, this is big business here, This is a big deal here. And yes, there are probably four or five schools each year that can win a national championship or at least play in the National championship game. Syracuse got there ten years ago. They are light years away. But for her to say, you're singling me out and I've been in the game for thirty years, I think that's unfair to the performance of Connecticut and the lack of performance by Syracuse.

00:22:51
Speaker 3: Yeah. Polling, and like.

00:22:52
Speaker 6: You've always said, the NCAA tournament is also building a tournament. They're going to put local teams against each other, teams with natural East post rivalries. The fact that Syracuse and Yukon played in a final is inherent that they're going to match them up as soon as they can going forward. And it's just a coincidence that they're four hours away from each other, So you're definitely going to try to fill that building with Syracuse fans as well.

00:23:16
Speaker 3: And I understand the sensitivity. You got humiliated.

00:23:20
Speaker 2: And then you go into that press conference soon after and you could see the emotion that was there. You could hear the emotion that was there. I just think you got to separate. You got to separate one from the other. The NCAA is not out to get you, because were they out to get you when you're at Buffalo? Were they out to get Yeah, you're going to play Connecticut. You should want to play Connecticut. You want to play the best, do it early. But I think you got to be fair that Yukon is just in a different stratosphere here, And yes, are you going to play at Connecticut? Yes you are, because there is no other women's team in America that comes close to the fan base.

00:24:05
Speaker 3: Now.

00:24:05
Speaker 2: Tennessee used to have this, LSU still has a great following South Carolina. There are really good programs. Connecticut's just different. But it feels like coach might be trying to deflect a little bit here. I mean, that's the kind of score you would see in high school. And PAULI said Connecticut will be up by thirty. At a half time, it was sixty five to twelve. I mean Connecticut's really good. They're not sixty five to twelve against a team that's ranked in the top twenty five.

00:24:44
Speaker 7: Yes, Marv, Well, I may have to disagree with you because the level is different between the top five teams and teams twenty through twenty five. So it might be a thirty to forty point.

00:24:55
Speaker 3: Now, not sixty five to twelve different.

00:24:59
Speaker 4: They were all I don't know. I couldn't tell you what happened with that. Yeah.

00:25:04
Speaker 8: See, there's very clearly a discrepancy between say even that right, Say well, Marvin said the top five, even the top ten, the bottom is so much lower than.

00:25:17
Speaker 3: The top is high.

00:25:18
Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, and there's really there's only i'll make up numbers here, but if there's thirty really really good players and there's another nine hundred and seventy of them playing, you know that there's going to create these types of situations more often than not.

00:25:35
Speaker 2: Yeah, Connecticut is an overwhelming favor to win the title. I wouldn't rule at UCLA, Texas, South Carolina, LSU.

00:25:45
Speaker 3: That's basically it.

00:25:48
Speaker 7: Yeah, Mark, and it's difficult when you watch something like maybe the women's McDonald's All American Game and there's twenty four girls and they're going to seven schools and three of them are going to Yukon and three of them are going to South Carolina and three are going to LSU, and it's like you're not even spreading out the talent.

00:26:02
Speaker 4: I always go back to Yukon when Diana Trosti was there.

00:26:04
Speaker 7: There was one year they won the national time she was the third best player on the team. Diana Troski was the third best player because she had Sue Burden swing cash and you had all this talent on one team and you can't spread it at least like you can.

00:26:16
Speaker 4: In the men's game.

00:26:17
Speaker 7: Yes, Todd And to suggest or think that if we're somewhere outside of Gamble pavilion, you could play a damn Antarctica instead of sixty five twelve at halftime would have been like fifty nine to twenty three.

00:26:26
Speaker 4: Would there have been any kind of significant difference? They wouldn't.

00:26:29
Speaker 2: It is tough to play Connecticut, but it's tough because start with the talent that they have and then you have the environment there. But I just think that the anger is kind of misdirected here. It really should be at your team. Your team played sloppy, missing shots, easy shots, throwing the ball out of bound. I mean some of that is because of Connecticut, but you know there's you don't have the nil money where we can evenly disperse talent across America, where the best player like aj Debansa can go to BYU for seven million dollars and BYU makes the tournament. You don't have that in women's basketball. There still is a very very deep divide of who is good and who is not, or who is great and who is just good. But I understand the frustration. You could have called a press conference at a halftime if you wanted to.

00:27:36
Speaker 3: Yes, Paul I.

00:27:37
Speaker 6: Was hoping weirdly because little sadistic that the I think as Holly Rowe was doing the sideline that on the way to the locker room, she would interview the Syracuse head coach.

00:27:45
Speaker 3: What do you need to do in the second half?

00:27:47
Speaker 10: Coach?

00:27:47
Speaker 6: Any adjustments at halftime?

00:27:49
Speaker 2: No? No, I like where we are, We got them right where we want them. Which do you need to get going more? Your offense or your defense? We gave up sixty five and Willey scored twelve.

00:28:01
Speaker 3: They're getting tired from all the shows.

00:28:02
Speaker 2: Yeah, they're going to be exhausted for making all those baskets there.

00:28:07
Speaker 3: Yes, Todd just can't spot.

00:28:09
Speaker 7: The husky his fifty three points with your twenty minutes left of basketball and hope to get back in this snow.

00:28:13
Speaker 4: We're gonna give it a shot.

00:28:14
Speaker 3: Thank you, Todd.

00:28:15
Speaker 2: All right, some phone calls here eight seven seven to three DP show Jesse and Florida leads us off. Good morning Jesse, Good morning guys.

00:28:26
Speaker 3: Fellas sixty four to eighty.

00:28:28
Speaker 11: Five double XL T shirt, Dah. I say that because I think you just created a nice new T shirt. It's going to be simple. It's a black tea silver script Wemby Cares because I think he does care and I would wear that proudly rooting him on the rest of the season because I got a fifty to one ticket for him to win the MVP I picked up. So guys, get to work on that Wemby Cares T shirt.

00:28:52
Speaker 2: I would love it, all right, I still like wim VP. But Matt in Ohio, Hi, Matt, what's on your mind?

00:29:01
Speaker 11: Hey you?

00:29:02
Speaker 12: Good morning guys, how's everybody doing great, good good. I had a kind of a question question and then a comment. So, as far as Wenbinnana goes, he's kind of.

00:29:16
Speaker 13: Like a unicorn. I don't know if that's the right word. And I think in baseball the same goes for Otani. I don't know if you guys think there's somebody like that in the NFL. And then my comment was to Marvin that the hands don't make the man.

00:29:36
Speaker 3: Oh okay, thanks Christian Syracuse. Hi, Chris, hey Hey, Thanks Dan, Hey Dan.

00:29:47
Speaker 14: It's funny local media and fans here in Syracuse. Backle your awards to a t Yeah, yeah, real embarrassing with coach Logatt. And you were talking about Wemby in the first segment and I I did a while back too. But it's going to be great for the media because he's the antithesis. His teams will be the antithesis of Tim Duncan's dynasty if he does turn it into a dynasty. I mean he was mister bank shot. Vanella didn't really give you anything. I mean, Wenby embraces it. He's animated, he'll talk, he shows emotion. I mean it's gonna be Yeah, it's going to be a lot of fun, and he is.

00:30:24
Speaker 9: He is so unique.

00:30:26
Speaker 2: It's fun to watch and watch an entire game because I always tell people when they show me highlights, I always say, I want to see the game, and they're like, well, don't these you know kind of bear out how great this player is, And I go, yes, but I like to see when you get a shot blocked, or you throw an interception, or you get sacked, or you strike out.

00:30:50
Speaker 3: I want to see what you do.

00:30:51
Speaker 2: You're next at bad, your next snap, your next shot, because that's what sports is. I mean, you think about baseball, seventy percent of the time you fail and you're still really good. If you fail seventy percent of the time. With basketball, you might make half your shots. So you have these moments where you're human or you get knocked down, you get back up.

00:31:17
Speaker 3: Now what do you do?

00:31:19
Speaker 1: That to me?

00:31:21
Speaker 2: Separates you because there are guys who play in college. I mean I mentioned this before when I went to see the Michigan Ohio State game in Ohio State years ago, and Justin Fields looked like he was in the backyard and there was no like it was a pro day against Michigan. They could have scored seventy that day. It felt like and it, you know, gives you this false sense of that guy is unbelievable, and we found that that is true.

00:31:52
Speaker 3: He is.

00:31:54
Speaker 2: You know, he was on a really good team with really good wide receivers playing against a suspect Michigan defense and took advantage of it. But everybody got caught up in that, and you're like, oh my god, look at that guy. I want to see what happens when somebody puts you on your rear end you throw an interception, because.

00:32:13
Speaker 3: That's what the NFL is.

00:32:15
Speaker 2: All right, Well, take a break, we will update our poll results more of your phone calls. Apparently, the best quarterback in the draft, according to one analyst, is not the quarterback who's going to be taking number one overall.

00:32:30
Speaker 3: Have that for you coming out.

00:32:31

00:32:54
Speaker 1: No, who's on the floor, Who's going to get to it? It's Williams for you.

00:33:01
Speaker 3: God, heck off dishes.

00:33:04
Speaker 10: Fud one more, what game Bazy Fud?

00:33:09
Speaker 2: He's unconscious heart to see of the mothership. Fud ended up with a career high thirty four, made eight three pointers, and that was their final home game at Connecticut. She'll be a top ten pick in the WNBA draft. That's your play of the day. Brought to you by Liberty Mutual. Why pay full price when you can customize and save? Switch to Liberty Mutual to customize your auto and home insurance so you only pay for what you need.

00:33:37
Speaker 3: Update the poll results. If you can seatan.

00:33:40
Speaker 8: Yeah, put one up from Paul. Whose career would you want, past, present and future? Otani, wemban Yama or other? Even is there even another right now? Shohe is winning that one with seventy two percent of the vote. Wemban Yama and other if there is another, are tied.

00:34:00
Speaker 3: I can't help but think back.

00:34:02
Speaker 2: I think it was on this day that Mike Trout signed his contract. It was twelve years, four hundred and sixty five million. Let me see if I got the numbers. Twelve years, four hundred twenty six and a half million, So that was twenty nineteen on this day, And you thought at the time, man that guy, the next Mickey Mantle or Willie Mays, and he's the future of the sport. And then all of a sudden he wasn't. And then all of a sudden they didn't make the playoffs. Then all of a sudden, Otani comes and goes, Then all of a sudden, he gets injured. Then all of a sudden, he doesn't come up in conversation anymore. It happens that quickly, and it can take an injury, it can take management making bad decisions, and then you're not relevant anymore. You're relevant when you win. Otani won with the Angels. He's a curiosity. Now all of a sudden, you're playing in big games. And that's all we wanted with Mike Trout. We wanted to see him in games that mattered. He's had three playoff games, and that was twelve years ago.

00:35:13
Speaker 8: He's been making thirty seven million dollars a year for many, many, many years and has many left to go.

00:35:21
Speaker 6: Yes, Pally Mike Trout's first eight years in the BIGS twenty twelve through twenty nineteen, first ballot Hall of Famer without question, three MVPs. He finished second four times since then the last seven years he's finished top five for MVP once.

00:35:41
Speaker 2: But that's why when you look at this guy, can't miss this guy, this team, they're going to be playing for championships. It can close that quickly. And Mike Trout is not part of the national conversation anymore. And it's a shame. But I can look at ownership and management. They didn't help him. We said at the time, if you're not keeping Otani, which everybody knew they weren't, then trade him, get something for him. I would have traded Mike Trout. We said that five years ago that I would trade Mike Trout.

00:36:17
Speaker 3: Yes.

00:36:17
Speaker 2: Is it going to hurt, Yes, But I got to figure out how to make this team competitive in the shadow of the Dodgers. And you haven't done a good job at all. You lost O'tani. Mike Trout has kind of mired in mediocrity as far as you know, the team goes. You know, they tried with free agent signings, but yeah, it's on this date in twenty nineteen he signed that contract, So he's got till twenty thirty one to get paid. Yeah, Marvin, the.

00:36:49
Speaker 7: Three MVPs gets Mike Trout to the Hall of Fame. Correct, Yes, okay, if he had.

00:36:53
Speaker 2: Two, well he finished top five? What three other times? Other times? Yeah, may needs he'd be MVP, or he'd be a first Battle Hall of Famer.

00:37:07
Speaker 3: I would think, yeah, Palling.

00:37:09
Speaker 6: Trout's first eight years are almost identical to pooh Hols's first eight years awards stats numbers. But pooh Holes played in eighty eight postseason games and won two World Series. Trout played in three total games.

00:37:22
Speaker 2: And the Cardinals wisely didn't disrespect Pooholes with a contract offer, but they wisely got his best years and moved on.

00:37:31
Speaker 3: And that's where the Angels go. We'll take him.

00:37:35
Speaker 2: And I remember being on the radio and I said, if they win a World Series with Pooholes, then you could validate all that money. Pooh Holes made one all start team. Now you know, Hall of Famer. But the Cardinals got ten years, one of the best return on investments in recent history, and what they got. Let's see Patrick in South Dakota. Hi, Patrick, what's on your mind?

00:38:07
Speaker 3: Good morning man?

00:38:08
Speaker 15: Six foot a svelt one sixty. Well, I just wanted to make the comments. You know, I know you guys are gonna be talking about Ty Simpson here coming up. And I don't think it's any coincidence that Dan Orlovsky is pushing Ty Simpson as being a better quarterback, seeing as they both are represented by the AA Sports. You know, this is another opportunity to also knock on the Raiders. First it was the offensive line is poor. We get Linderbaum, they have too many holes. We get all these sinees and get Max back, you know. So I just this is just a funny headline that they're trying to push, and obviously or Lootsky's pushing it because of their connection with CAA Sports together.

00:38:53
Speaker 2: It's not obvious, let's be fair. It's a you know, that's an accusation. Orlotsky's credibility is at stake here. These you know, these hot takes don't go away. But Orlovsky, he's so pro quarterback, and he's always talking great about quarterbacks. Was I surprised that he said he's better than Mendoza. So the Raiders are making a mistake in dan Orlovsky's opinion. But I don't think I'm going to look at this and go, well, they're represented by the same firm, and therefore he's going to risk his reputation to say something he doesn't believe it.

00:39:31
Speaker 3: Yes, it is true.

00:39:33
Speaker 8: I'm not saying that he is doing that, But I don't know that he's worried about Is anybody surrounding any of the drafts? Do they really have to worry about reputation for what they get right and what they get wrong. I mean, nobody is really like that. Man, this guy gets everything right, this guy gets everything wrong. People just kind of comment.

00:39:48
Speaker 2: Yeah, But I think it's different when it comes to us. This is a standalone Like he's saying that Ty Simpson's better than Fernando Mendoza.

00:39:58
Speaker 3: It's not.

00:39:59
Speaker 2: He's got a bunch of comments or opinions about these draft picks like this is out of nowhere. And I think that's the surprising part. And I do think that we have a callback. You know, when Chris Simms talked about Lamar Jackson, he said, I think he's the best quarterback in the draft. So we do remember those things. I don't know if Dan Orlofsky cares if we remember. And this is a bad take. A lot of people like Bryce Young and I kept going, I don't think you're seeing the same guy that I'm seeing.

00:40:33
Speaker 3: But hey, it gave us. And keep in mind ESPN has the draft.

00:40:38
Speaker 2: I mean they're trying to pump up a draft that doesn't sound like it's too enticing. We know Mendoz is going to the Raiders. The other curiosity is Jeremiah Love. Other than that, what are you really interested in? On that first night? Maybe where ty Simpson goes. Do the Jets take him? Do the Cardinals take him? Like these are the possibility. But we'll play what Orlovsky had to say about ty Simpson when we come back, and then you could judge for yourself.

00:41:10
Speaker 3: I mean, he's passionate, truly believes it.

00:41:13
Speaker 2: He's not the only guy, by the way, who believes in ty Simpson.

00:41:18
Speaker 3: One hour of the books. Two more to go.

00:41:20
Speaker 2: We'll talk some college basketball with Clark Kellogg. Also Reggie Miller. Can Wemby steal the MVP? Two more hours to go back after this
