Revenge Is A Dish Best Served Three Times (S18E11)

Four Finger Discount (Simpsons Podcast)

It's another trilogy episode, with this one focusing on the theme of "revenge". Normally these are pretty pointless, and this one is to an extent, however the last two segments are almost Treehouse of Horror worthy. A pretty fun episode overall!

oh my wife, O mate, avenge me in flamboyant in practical fashion four
finger Discount. Ye. Welcome to fourthing, a discount, the podcast where
we always take revenge on our contractors. This week we're here to review episode
J A b F zero five. It is episode eleven of season eighteen.
Revenge is a dish best served three times. I am Dando, I am
Elliot, j O'Neill, Wow, what happened to you guy? Sexy all
of a sudden? Or sexy year? I should say sexy year sexy somehow
both younger rand border? I would say you're border you guys? Yeah?
Probably, Well we'll both took our heads in the Shino baller and make embarrassons
afterwards, I reckon right now though, guys getting his teeth just all dismantled
by some crazy dentist in BALI that's reading it to Barli's. Barley's not Barzer
here. Barley is around still, guys, don' worry about that guy is
not here. This week're enjoyed, of course by Elliot j O'Neill. You
may have heard before on the podcast Fourthing a discount as well as the day
w podcast. I do here in the Fourthing of discount network where you do
that every single week. But since guys away in Barley get his teeth fixed,
we thought who better than to fill the seat than Elliott j O'Neill,
So thank you for joining you, sir, No worries and yeah, fresh
off my own dental work. I had a crown put in last week.
In fact, what is a crown put in? What actually is it?
Now? I get told off by Nikola I won't pronounce the action of crown
because she's like, it's not crazy because I say crown. Nicolas just opened
the door. Can do you hear me? Nicholas heard we are travel and
Elliot's wave as well that it so basically when I say words like crown,
but I say crown instead of crayon, right, So do you say crayon
or crown? I say, I say crown. I'm the worst person to
ask. I pronounced things so weird all the time, like every time,
like especially letters like the letter B or anything that with an E sound.
Sometimes I go bay like and for our ae w Frians. Yeah. Yeah,
if I'm talking about the BBC, I'll sometimes say baba, say like
or the or the b No, it is the b CC, not the
BBC. You said the BBC, right, I was talking about the British
Broadcasting Channel or whatever it's called. But yeah, anyway, we're here to
talk about our revenge as at dish best so three times not gonna lie listeners.
When I said to Alie this is what we're doing, he goes,
oh, god z his death. So basically, for anyone who hasn't listened
to The Simpsons Index, you've been on the show before, you've explained,
but just in case they've listened to this for the first time they've ever heard
of your show, what is it executive that you do on the Simpsons Index
podcast and why is it that you've already reviewed this episode A couple of times.
Well, yeah, over at the Simpsons Index, we used to review
three episodes at a time, with each one coming from a different decade.
We used to get into like talking about how the show had changed over you
know, the three different eras that it was in then when it started.
Now it's like ballooned out to four. But yeah, so recently we did
catch up and we've reviewed about the first nineteen seasons. But yeah, so
now we're just more or less reviewing the newest stuff while still being from the
last fifteen years whatever define newer, Like where are you currently at? What
are you doing? So we've completed the first nineteen seasons and we're currently catching
up on everything from season twenty and after doing them in chronological order or he
just no, essentially random order. Like sometimes I'll pick an episode to cater
two the guests, because yeah, we have a different guest on every week,
and yeah, I'll try to pick an episode that maybe pertains to their
interests or something. I like to get a lot of other different podcasters on,
Like an episode we got coming out soon, I got Steve from Cinemarcade
coming out. It's a video game movie podcast, So there was a recent
episode about roadblocks that we reviewed with him, and that was a lot of
fun. And I'm forgetting your first question already. Oh why have I reviewed
this episode a bunch? So on what? I reviewed this episode with the
other Simpsons podcast Worst Episode Ever who exclusively delve into bad Simpsons, and I
also reviewed it, yeah, with my regular co host. So yeah,
I've already reviewed this episode twice. But you know what, reviewing revenge is
a best dish best of three times is worth reviewing three times, So let's
go. It's like, it makes sense, right, It's funny how the
unified theory of for figure disc and all works out that way. But I'm
not gonna lie. I mean, I'm never a huge fan of these trilogy
episodes that they seem to sort of start doing in the teen seasons. Never
used to do this back in the day, you had your trilogy, you
had your sorry Trios of horror. They did. They did do the what
was that one where they had the their I want candy shit at the end
the spinoff showcase. They did that. Yeah, was there any other trilogy
ones in the in like that what the people call the Golden Era? No,
because even Bible stories were Season ten, and I think a lot of
people will debate if that's classic or not, but I say season ten's kind
of in the Golden Year, like it's still it's it's around close enough,
I guess, yeah, no, absolutely, And I mean even the next
one after that, Simpson's Tall Tales. That's an episode I actually love,
I'm gonna be honest, and that's from season twelve, I believe. But
yeah, the trilogy episodes did become annualized in the teen's era, and I
think it's either this season maybe season seventeen that had two of them. Innute
as well. Okay, I just realized this was going to be one of
the trilogy ones because I'm never a huge fan of them, and nothing I
dislike this one. I just thought there wasn't much to it, and I
did. It's funny they made the joke at the end of it how this
could have been a Halloween episode, the Batman one. That one totally could
have been a Halloween Treos of Horror segment, don't you think. Yeah,
I don't really know why it wasn't, or maybe it just didn't make the
cut for this year's Treehouse of Horror or something, and then maybe, But
Batman Begins was still kind of relevant, I mean relevant pertaining to assist Simpson's
turnaround of a parody. But still and they just wanted to get out there,
I speculate. But yeah, it came out in two thousand and five,
didn't it. So January two thousand and seven is still pretty relevant.
Yeah, relevant enough. Yeah, we're probably just on the cusp of Dark
Knight coming out. Yeah, it's not really a Batman Begins parody. It's
just the Batman story, right, It's just the titles I play on Batman
Begins. No, that's and that's part of my problem with this segment as
well, is that it doesn't know whether it wants to be like new,
serious, gritty Batman or old campy sixties Batman. But we'll get to it.
What is your favorite kind of Batman? Oh ah hmm, that's a
good like. I just got so much love and affection for the Tim Burton
Batman movies obviously, you know, nostalgia and everything. They're the ones I
grew up on, especially Batman Returns. I feel like that's the better of
the two. See, I grew up in I grew up in the campy
ones. A shoemaker. Oh that's good campy, yeah yeah. And I
look back now and I'm like, I know these are poorly not poorly made.
They're not poorly makers. I've designed to sell fucking toys and shit and
that's exactly what they did, right And did they ever some of that one?
Long live the days McDonald's had good ship in the happy meals? Right
yeah? Right? No, A vivid memory of still having that two face
cup. You know, it was my favorite cup when I was d all
four, still on my fridge in the back of the garage. I still
bust about occasionally. You don't say, oh awesome, I could never get
all. That's what I want to do with the nerd Daddy YouTube channel.
Excuse I managed to monetize it. And I'm just like, I want to
start doing videos focusing on like just cool nostalgia shit like that, like the
do you remember the the They had the Flintstones ones as well, all the
Flintstones ones, the glass glasses, Oh really, I don't remember those ones.
No, do you remember the the space space the NBA big giant cups
from macas where you pour the drink into it and it would make the logos
of the basketball teams appear. Oh is that right? Well, yeah,
nineties days of like color changing and hypercolor T shirts and all that sort of
stuff. Yeah, and the nineties logos of the NBA were the best.
Anyone says, like everyone loved the Hornet's logo. Well, yeah, I'm
not much of a sports guy. I like my sports entertaining, as we
know for doing thed w But yeah, I'll take your word for it.
The nineties were the best for wrestling, the best for NBA, the best
for everything that's for Simpsons, they were the best for a lot of things.
Yes, obviously we are putting our old man caps on right now.
I complain about that. But to this episode, you said you didn't like
it, that you didn't like it, or you're sick of reviewing it.
Look, I I'm wondering if I'm going to contradict previous podcasts that I've made
about this episode. But I don't think I was gonna interject there. I
don't think you can contradict because I feel like your tastes change over time.
Yeah, so Guy and I go back and revisit episodes from the first ten
seasons that he wasn't around for when we originally did the show, when I
did it with Mitch, and my opinions on some episodes completely changed because I've
either become married since or had a kid since, and it's just your taste
change. It doesn't mean that you're going against what you said before. It's
just you're a different person now, so you're watching it differently. Yeah,
that's a good point, But I mean also having said that, I think
I reviewed these episodes like two and three years ago, so I don't know
how much has changed. But look, I think maybe on this viewing,
I was a little bit more forgiving of it. I guess I knew what
I was in for and what I was my expectations were sort of all already
sort of at a set level, but I still came away from it feeling
flat, and you know, look, best you can hope for in this
sort of like there's a handful of good jokes, but ultimately I just sort
of felt like, what was the point of that? And I feel like
even the Simpsons were asking themselves at several points in this episode, what was
the point of that? And Yeah, if the show itself is asking that,
yeah, then you as the audience are like well, you know,
fuck me. I guess that's usually worry. Can we swear on the show?
I keep forgetting you can see whatever you want except for the sea bumb
We don't like the sea bomb in this show. Ah, that's too crass
that This is the thing. I quite often come out of these trilogy episodes
like what you're just saying there where it's just kind of thinking of it's kind
of the thought of, well, what was the point of watching this?
Like, you know the episodes I say, Cannon, they're not really canon
anymore. They're all in a vacuum. It's just you know, entertain me
for twenty two minutes. That's sort of mentality ethic. Was I entertained?
You can't really worry about cottonnuity anymore. I mean when I went to dinner
with Matt, he was just like for cottonuity. He went on this ten
minute spielbo why cottnuwity doesn't matter? And I'm like, okay, so I
will never bring that weight up again every in your presents, But so continuity
doesn't really matter anyone. Sometimes I just can't help myself, Like, for
example, last week on the show, you had Millhouse's parents with Millhouse together
again. I was like, hang on, So they got back together in
a last season, but there's been no mention of it since the last time
we saw them. She found Marge's bra in her room and accused Kirk of
cheating, and then that was it. And I was like, there was
no resolution to that story, but they're still together. And then the big
one for me that's really annoyed me in recent times is how Bart found Nelson's
dad. And I loved how Nelson's dad returned and it was like, okay,
cool, a new direction for the Nelson character, you know. And
then there's been no mention of his father since it's back to him living alone
with his single strip of mother, and I'm just like, how do you
bring in a character like that and changed the felt like the landscape of the
character like a new direction. He's in a loving family now, and then
you just never mentioned it again. I'm like, what is this now?
That's the thing with the whole continuity argument, and I get and I do
sympathize with the Simpsons writers and whatever, because you still have to write a
show that feels relevant to the time and whatever, and doing that uticulturally things
you do have to kind of ignore the continuity of earlier episodes. But it's
also that thing where they're trying to have it both ways, right, like
continuity it doesn't matter until it does. That's the sort of philosophy. And
you know, and like, look, these trilogy episodes, I do give
a little bit more leeway because you know, they like the Treehouse of Horror,
they're just a bit of fantasy. Let's see the Simpsons, cous players,
some other characters, and how do we simpsonsize this story? And yeah,
I guess that's my main problem with these ones is that aside from the
Count of Monte Cristo, they really didn't for the other two, Like it
wasn't a solid idea for either of them, I don't think, And even
the Count of Monte Cristo one, I think I spent too much time with
stupid, pointless jokes and not enough time sort of honoring that story. Really,
I think a lot of the time too with these trilogy ones, and
that if you don't understand the source material, you don't get the gagsy and
they just fall flat. You don't know the story, the Monte Cristo story,
then you'd be like, what is going on here, Like, as
a kid, I'm watch just going what is this? What is this shit?
Yeah? Well, yeah, That's where I embarrassingly admit as well that
even reviewing this for a third time on a podcast, I still haven't gone
and read the book, seen any screen adaptations of this at all. I
still have no real familiarity with the Monte Cristo story. What about that.
You've seen Revenge of the Nerds, right, the films? Yeah, that
has absolutely nothing to do with what happened here though, and probably better because
of that. That movie does not hold up from a comedy perspective or just
from a what's acceptable today for women's standards. I think it just failed on
all fronts. Like I my ex girlfriend at the time, who was like,
this is my favorite childhood movie. Yeah, let's watch it. We
were both like, oh, okay, that just happened, you know.
Yeah, I don't know. I haven't got back and visit for a long
time. I remember joining them as a kid. I didn't mind the second
segment though, I think overall, I think I enjoyed Revenge of the Geeks
the most. But butman beginns wasn't too bad either. I'm willing to except
that you didn't like them. But I liked the idea of Millhouse having the
bully arm that the what was it? What was the actual name for it?
They had it, they wrote it down somewhere. God, that should
be in a trivia, shouldn't it the get back a ratura. It was
a get back of something, wasn't it? Yeah, get back in Aida?
Yeah? I like that. And again this also felt like it could
have been a trius of horror story to an extent if it was more absolutely,
if it was like the way he was getting back at the people was
resulting in them being killed or something. You know, Yeah, I guess
it's maybe it's the problem of the whole three episode, three segment story format
thing is that I don't think this segment or this idea got enough time to
to flesh out and make that turn feel justified. It was just like,
at least it goes, oh, you fix the problem, and then Millhouse
is like, I'm now mad with power. It just it turned on a
dime, and like it really just felt like we were going through the motions
on that one a bit too much. Like I think I agree, I
think it's like probably joke wise the strongest. I guess I don't know.
It was really short though, Like I think it only got like five minutes
or something. I did like the puns in Batman begins. Yeah, the
serpent and whatnot. That's the that's the Batman. I like the campiness.
You know, I'm all about campy Batman. I'm I've said this time and
time ago on the podcast. People are sick of hearing me say. I'm
just I'm done with dark Batman. I'm just that it was. It was
great for the trilogy, but every Batman since has just tried to copy the
formula, and every superhero film in general has tried to copy that formula,
especially in DC. And I'm just like, ough, can we just go
back to having fun again? Why doesn't Batman dance anymore? Yeah, Jesus
Christ, Look, it's nothing superhero like. The DC films aren't fun.
No, what do you think of the Robert Pattinson Batman? Though? The
Matt Reeves one I got halfway through and fell asleep. You don't say,
oh, I really liked that one, Like, although I watched it on
a plane, and I feel like when you're on a plane, your tolerance
of crap is goes a lot higher, so I'm beling to give it that.
But yeah, not that it was bad. I think maybe it was
just tig because you know when you're when you're a daddy, you and you
get time to watch movies late at night, so I'm usually half asleep,
so I try to watch the episodes now when I'm going to do reviews once
I've taking the kids a day. Yeah, fresh in the morning. I'm
feeling cherry ripe because I used to watch them at night and next day I
was like, worst episode ever. And then I'd like, rewatch it that
afternoon and go not so much the worst episode ever. Yeah, it's funny
how that. Yeah, the time of day couldn't impact such a thing,
but it really can. Yeah, that's why Guy like enjoy I said it
Guy, because Guy was getting just like this was terrible. This was terrible.
I was like, when did you watch this? He's like, like
eleven o'clock last night. I'm like, dude, don't watch it before you
get to bed, Like you're too tired and grumpy. You're an old man.
No, that's it. And I mean in the early days of the
podcast before twenty twenty, where the thing happened, like we used to always
watch it together in a group, and because, like especially with comedies,
I find that people are more inclined to actually laugh when they're in a group
of people, And I felt like watching the episodes like that gave especially the
newer ones, the best chance possible, because yeah, if you're just watching
Yeah, the New Ones by yourself, it's late at No, you're just
cramming before the podcast tomorrow. Yeah, you're likely to be in a bad
mood. But yeah's have a couple of friends over poor some nice soda pop
and yeah, have some popcorn. It's a yeah, it's a better time.
But having said that, some of the episodes still can put you in
a bad mood, even with all the best circumstances. I've only had two
or three so far that made me actually angry, And obviously this is a
podcast be well away because I tore them to shreds. Do you think,
well, do you think maybe the way you did your show back in the
original run, with the three episodes like the Golden Ear more middle tier than
Lady Seasons? Do you think doing it like that gave the teen era and
the latter ones less of a chance of you enjoying them because you had a
direct comparison to an older episode, so you're comparing it to the best of
the best. Because I feel like, because we've been doing them in chronological
order, we're reviewing all these episodes together like the sort of the same season
altogether. I don't think they come across as bad. But if I was
backing them up with say, Homer the Heretic and the this one, I'd
be like, oh my god, why can't I be more like this?
So do you think because you did it like that, you dislike these ones
more because you were sort of comparing them as opposed to just watching them all
watching season eighteen in a vacuum. Yeah, well, look for the first
twenty episode, sorry for the first twenty episodes of the podcast, we were
reviewing them Classic Teens, new and we found that our energy levels, which
are so bad at the end of the night because like it's long process recording
the podcast like that, and then yeah, we were tired. We were
kind of over it by the time that the hd ERA episode would roll around.
So yeah, very early on we made the decision, Okay, we've
got to start with the new ones and end good, because yeah, it
would always be like that, we'd be bitching about the new one, especially
in comparison to the fucking excellent episode that we watched at the start of the
evening. So yeah, we started, did you watch watch one review it,
watch one review it, watch one review it. Okay, so you
didn't watch them all beforehand then review them, Okay, I see. Yeah.
Yeah, because as well, like with the HD and teens, like
people generally have more familiar with the teens, but like it would have a
thing that if we did watch them in a cluster and then review them,
that like we'd conflate and like think some things were from an episode and they
were actually from a different one. So yeah, we had to separate them
as well. Like, and I think that's the beauty with all these Simpsons
podcasts is like we've all each got our different methodology of doing things and like
reviewing them. And this is just the approach that I wanted to take,
is to be able to sort of directly compare. Is like not coming in
on the foot of like New Simpsons is bad or anything. It's just like,
okay, what's different about it? And like we having the three episodes
as a way to directly compare and starting with the new one like was really
helpful in that way because we'd be able to give the new ones a lot
more credit as well, and like yeah not like not just bitch out it
instantly, and we'd have a good starting place with the HD one to be
able to go, yeah, nothing's right with me, and then like try
to figure out out and then by the time we get to the classic it's
like, oh, I've just it's just occurred to me, what's different here
because we've watched the classic era one. Yeah, my favorite what'll be your
favorite moments from the episode, Davis, mister, Ah, my favorite moments?
My favorite moments. Look, I think yeah, coming from the the
Millhouse for Revenge, I like I loved the get back and eight to all
the different settings that it had, wasn't it. Yeah? Yeah? And
I thought that was you know, we talk about the comedy rule of three,
and you know, all the different settings that this had. This was
like a comedy rule of fifteen or something like that. Like, I really
liked the escalation on the jokes where it started out with your standard school yard
bullying stuff, wedge purple purple noogies, pink bellies, but then to progress
wet Willie, dry Willie, and go all the way to kidney stoning,
nasty Jackson and genital hospital. I am glad I never got a genital hospital
as a kid. I was gonna say, how many of the ease you
think you actually had done to you? Or were you the bully? Oh
no, I was the youngest of three boys. I definitely had everything before
kidney stoning. I wasn't necessarily bullied. I wasn't bullied physically. I was
bullied mentally because I was like the fat it at school. So I was
just all right. I was just like I've said on I was referred to
as titties all the time. Yeah, many of per pulling uple in my
time as well. Yeah, yeah, I know all too well. I
enjoyed the French snare. Yeah. So I go back and forth on the
French jokes in this one because they're so like surface level, but they are
kind of funny, like especially if you do have a basic knowledge of French
language, like in the prison. Instead of going ooh la la Homer guys
uder the yeah, and that's just caught me off. God damn, that's
good. But the snare like it's the most basic of stereotypes. But that's
what the show is, you know, And I think it's the kind of
thing that even French people just have to laugh at, right, you could
have a sense of humor about these kind of things. But it reminds me
what was the It was a trilogy of error where they go she goes to
the French school, yeah, and they all like laugh and then they go
no, no, no. He's like, oh yeah. I also enjoyed
Homer saying how deep is this tunnel and he's fall straight at the wall.
Yeah, birds spent thirty years digging this tunnel. It's like a brick deep.
Yeah. But then again the extended falling joke where Home is falling for
ages and then when he crawls back up the tower via the river as well,
and then just like immediately drops straight back in, and then they do
that a couple of times, and then Homer just goes, so, how's
it going, And then Burns is like, oh, like that one to
me was just ah, you really just I just felt like it was just
yeah, to use a term for a worst episode. Ever, this is
like extra beat alarm, where yeah, you had the joke the good falling,
Like, oh, that was a surprise, didn't see that coming,
and then you just dragged it out so long. It reminds me kind of
these Home has been known in the past to repeatedly make the same mistake over
and over again. Yeah that's true. Yeah, I don't know. Maybe
it's just a taste thing, but yeah, this, yeah, I did
not think this was I was trying to remember a French thing, Bond.
This was not Bond. I also really enjoyed the Diddler. I thought,
really, I thought the Diddler was such a funny name. It's like I
was, like, this is worth it just for the segment of lanes.
If I come up with the word the didler, we have to write a
segment around the diddler. Jesus like, because there isn't diddler like a word
for a pedophile. But it's a it's a joke, yeah, I know.
But like, especially with Flanders and I know the connection with religion and
everything. It was just one of those color tug sort of jokes for me.
Oh but it's one of those jokes where I think it's perfect for Simpsons
because it flies under the radar for kids. But as an you're like,
fuck, I you say that into a kids show. Yeah, that was
very surprising. But another one that it's like blink and you'll miss it.
You probably would have missed it, but here we are reviewing and taking down
scrupulous note taking. Yeah, but I was a kid watching this one.
I just thought the Diddler was a funny name because as a kid, I
think it's just the Flanders version of the Riddler. Yeah, so he said
faced value. Yeah, like it's very cleverly put put together with the pieces
like that, but it is just one that makes me I don't want to
think of Flanders in that way. Oh well it's a super villain, yeah
I suppose. Yeah, there we go, he's meant to be the villain.

your support, and I hope you enjoy all the extra goodies to get by
being a supporter of ours, including Talking Side, four Taels and fu Jurama
Speaking of the Hill, the movie guys, the Facebook community, the Discord
community, you name it, we've got it. All right, guys,
thank you again for your sport. Like I said, now, Alliott jair
O'Neil, let's get into some trivia questions. Oh okay, uh, what
are the four satellite radio stations that the family want to listen to? I've
got leases because I'm My first question was Chill Thunder I'm pretty sure how it
puts on chill Thunder White? Is that right? Yep? There we go.
We got two other four. I don't know the other two. What
were they? Cool Waves and Neon Breeze. Neon Breeze. So this is
kind of nostalgic in the sense that actually, no, we'll get to all
that when they do the full in death review. All right, So my
next question for you would be what was the worst torture of all that Carl
mentions that. Carl mentions, well, the worst of all except except for
and then he says something else. Yeah, well, the worst torture of
all is not knowing and the rat helmet, the rat helmets, yes,
and now going to good night sleep. You've got a nine am rat helmet.
Sometimes you read things and it's like the way they torture people in medieval
time. You're like, people did this to people? What the oh?
Yeah no? Growing up, you know one of my favorite bands, Iron
Maiden, It's like, what is an Iron Maiden? Oh? God?
Yeah, not good? Oh? What were they seeing at the opera house?
In Bartman begins What were they seeing? Ah, it's right there?
Not what is it? Trick question that didn't say just I remember this.
I'm thinking of the scene where they're walking out of the Opperao they say that
not many kids have a parents that can afford them to take them to the
opera every single night. My final question for you will be actually, ah,
this is actually I put in instead of putting the trivia, put this
in my trivia sort of should have been my favorite moments I enjoyed the line
of Millhouse saying having a weapon at school has made things awesome. Yeah.
Yeah, that was one where it was like, yeah, Simpson's making a
joke on society. That was okay, Yeah that was good. But yeah,
my last tribute actually is also pertaining to Millhouse and that segment. Why
was he the one who was deemed qualified to wield the get back in eighta?
Um? What did he do that qualified him most for it? Did
he have like coordination or something? Yeah, they said all it needs is
a basic level of coordination and all the odes wan is that the answer?
No, Millhouse said is a judgling care Yeah, juggle at camp. I
was like, I'm like, like that, there's something now I'm missing,
something like a toup of your face. Yeah. I do love this joke
because it doesn't he didn't juggle at all or say he was good at juggling.
He just said he took it at camp. Like there was no skills
proven demonstrably. It's just I took juggling at camp. Did you ever go
to a camp, like a themed camp, not school camp, just a
theme camp, like juggling camp or something like that. No, not really,
I was just the kind of kid that in my spare time wanted to
be in front of the TV with video games or with friends in with video
games and sort of stuff like that. I wasn't never inclined for sort of
scouts or any of those like extracurricular camping activities. Either I was a home
kid. I just loved being home, or I had like one or two
free friend's house where like they were like my safe spaces, but like anywhere
else I felt out of my comfort zone. I'd have like panic attacks.
I couldn't even do school camps, man, I'd have like panic attacks.
I just couldn't go to them. I just have a fear like sleeping out
at a place I wasn't comfortable with, but like they had like two or
three friends, and like my NaN's place in like one of my uncle's places.
Anywhere else, No no deal. Yeah. Wow, Like I had
a bit of that early on in my childhood, and like my family still
make fun of me and like quoted off and it's almost a meme in our
household to go when I was I don't know, I think I was only
a four or something, but I just started crying and I was like I
want to go back to Elliott's house, and I'd still like quote in my
family, I wet the bed till I was like twelve, So I think
that played a partner as well. I was like the fear of wetting the
bed at someone else's house. Yeah, sure, I've imagine being that kid
had pissed a bed at like a fucking Grade five slumber party. Yeah,
there's worse thing to be called. I'm starting to appreciate my family now.
Won't forget my brother's for all the purple nurples and nasty Jackson's. But still,
I mean, at least as Billy Madison taughtoise, you're not cool unless
you peat your parts. Yeah, that's it. That's it, all right.
So the original air date of Revenge is a Dish Best Sir three Times
was January twenty eighth, two thousand and seven. It was written by A.
H. Cohen and directed by Michael Polsino. There was no chalk gag,
but there was a couch gag. It's where the Simpsons are infants who
crawled to the couch whilst Twinker Twink a Little Stars playing in the background.
After reaching the couch, they grew up to their normal ages, except Maggie
just remains a baby as per usual. So the episode kicks off with the
family apparently they're driving to the airport. I don't remember hearing Homer say that,
but apparently he did. Yeah. Well that at the end he goes
like, we may have missed out flight to Hawaii. Yeah, that should
have been a trivia question, yeah, because it was like on the on
the wiki page here it says Miami. Oh really, I wrote Hawaii.
It's so confusing, yeah, saying family vacation. They're going on a family
drive, you know, with the satellite radio. Yeah. But as I
was saying earlier, this was kind of like nostalgia because remember when satellite radio
was just sort of coming to the into the fold and it's like you could
listen to like a themed channel. It's like, WHOA, so cool man.
No. One of my big things for that was the introduction of double
J. And it's like, yes, finally triple J for me. Yeah,
old person And now even that it's just like the double J's like we
need something older version of that for me. Now. Yeah, we need
to go to J and then go to No J and then yeah, the
sing the songs that were on Double J. I saw there's those songs that
were originally on Triple J when Double J started are now in Double J,
and Double J's pushed out the songs that I liked. But I haven't listened
to the radio in so long, man. I listened, Oh, I
like my sport so like I listened to SEM, which is like the local
Melbourne sports radio station. So when the footy season's on what we call AFL,
you your footy in Sydney's NRL. But you know, when the footy
season's on that or quick it or whatever, just more talk back stuff.
But I never listened to music on the radio anymore. I'm mostly either podcasts
or talk back radio. Yeah, I've found, yeah that I don't really
I've never really been a fan of radio anyway, because I get pretty frustrated,
Like I'm a big music fan, and I just sort of get frustrated
at the idea of hearing the same sort of songs like more than ten times,
like in a small space of time. And I generally like to listen
to whole albums anyway, just as my music tastes. And yeah, certainly
as it's been easy to connect devices to my car, which is where I
would have done most of my radio listening. Yeah. Through that time,
I've gotten more into podcasts, which is still funny to my dad, who
was like a lifelong talkback radio fan and as a kid, I'd be like,
did we listen to this shit? Now I'm making podcasts, you know,
which is essentially Elliott he wants to get clean about the clouds fully fully.
Uh. But yeah, so like even sometimes I'll chuck on the radio
and then just quickly switch back to yeah, Spotify or my podcast at because
yeah, that's what I do most of my listening on. Anyway, I
just I sort of just get frustrated with the radio format anyway. Yeah.
Well see, so I started off in radio and I very quickly realized this
is not for me. You know, basically with Australian radio, you have
to conform to a certain style, a certain sound of voice. They all
talk like this. They're trying to Hamish and Andy. It's like, we're
so excited to be here, and I'm like, you're not really excited like
once you're working radio, Like, oh, these guys aren't getting paid much
at all. They don't actually like anything they're saying. It's all bullshit.
They're not actually anything like their personalities. But I never forget Do you know
Eddie McGuire, he's a big Yeah, yes, you know ed McGuire.
Right, I'll never forget right. I met him when I was about twelve,
and it's a photo of me with Eddie. He was doing his speech
just like Q and a thing at my and my mum's work when she was
working here in Geelong at the place called Buckley's. And I remember he said
to me. I said to him, how do you get a job in
radio? I remember saying this, man. I remember he said to me,
he said, buddy, it's not worth getting a job in radio unless
you're somebody outside of radio, otherwise you're never making any money. And I
was like, how fucking right was he? Yeah, that's brutal and true.
He said some wrong things in the past, but you can quote him
on that one. That's painfully accurate. Yes, if you're not a TV
personality, don't even bother with radio. Yeah, no, because it's weird
because like I see things like Hughsey has one of the biggest radio shows,
and it's like, surely you're making enough money, dude, why are you
hogging the airwaves from Yeah, another local talent who could probably use the push.
But it's just like no, because no one had listened to the radio
for hughs He wasn't on it, you know. Is he still one of
the biggest radio shows US. I wouldn't have a clue. Like I said,
don't listen to a lot of radio thinking. I am going off billboards
that I've seen in the past. I've never got the whole Husy thing.
You know, he's very successful what he does, but we quite often I'm
making fun of Hughsey on this show here for oh, one of Australia's premier
entertainers. You know. It started with the Snakes Alive bit and multimillions were
made off the back of that. Have you seen guy got me onto this
quick little side. We'll get back to the episode in a second. But
the meme of someone holding out three packets of the back of cigarettes that look
like Husy. So I am googling this, immediately googles Hughsey cigarette packet meme.
Oh my god, it's true. So yeah, yeah, it's the
two like if you if you're aware of cigarette packets anyway, Yeah, it's
the two like smoking causes blindness, and then one of the having a hard
time looking at this and talking at the same time, and the smoking fox
with your teeth sing, and yeah, that is it's so weird, Like
yeah, if you hagle it as well, do you think of that?
Just I'm surprised anyone had three packets of cigarettes to look at it. It's
like, yeah, I haven't smoked in almost a decade now. My brothers
asked me to pick up some packets when I was going to hang out with
them a couple of weeks ago. It was like, yeah, just three
packets. Yeah, no worries it. It's like one hundred and fifty dollars.
Yeah, my uncle's recently quit smoking, right, my uncle and his
partner and it was about three years ago and like a year they saved like
forty to fifty grand Yeah, it's mental, right, just yeah, like
just long going of the days when they were like because I remember when I
was first turning eighteen, first started going to the pubs, it was like
that was then cigarettes were like jumping into the double digits dollars and now,
like I know, it's not the same for a lot of your international listeners
that cigarettes haven't got the tax like that Australians have. But the shit,
I don't know. Maybe it's a good thing, but yeah, one hundred
percent is a good thing. I mean, I've never smoked in my life.
Apparently Nicholas just smoked when she drank, but yeah, I just I
don't know. I've see people smoking down I'm like, still doing that,
huh cool. Yeah, I feel smoke. It's weird listeners like who you
are in Australia. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like it's hard to
find somebody smoking now. It's like we hired them in a corner somewhere.
Absolutely. No. I was at the markets the other day and this old
couple started lighting. A couple up and like a couple of parents like walked
up to them immediately like what are you doing? There's children around here.
Yeah, And I think that's the right mentality. We should be like what
are you doing? Like that's fine if you want to do it so bit,
but don't do it near me. Yeah. And then yeah, vapes
briefently were like, oh, it's not cigarettes, and then they found out
yes, the second hand vape is just as bad. So and you go
off off into the dark corner with the smokers. Yeah, and we've banned
you as well. Yeah. But yeah, getting back to two chill funder
Light. Yeah, so I don't know how we got to all that conversation
after just talking about I was like commercials and shit on radio. Yeah.
But but basically the rich textan cuts off the Simpsons, Homer gets really angry,
we get a really lame joke about the war in Iraq. No,
revenge doesn't get anybody anywhere. Why are the US still in Iraq? I'm
like, oh God, are we still talking about this? Okay? Yeah,
and then Marge tells the first Revenge story and I was like, oh,
it's one of these ones. It was just such a really contrived setup
as well as like you know, Homer, revenge doesn't work out well for
everybody. How about this story? It's like, here we go. It
kind of from me of you know, this wasn't a trilogy story, but
as a trilogy concept. It was when they did the clip show with the
love stories, you remember, oh yeah yeah, and they said all just
sort of sitting in around the kitchen table telling these really contrived remember when this
happened? Yeah, I mean, what would you rather this or a clip
show. At least I didn't do clip shows anymore. Nah, there's one
hundred percent. It's funny, like because on the Simpsons Index, despite what
we were saying, I was saying before, we do rank the episodes and
sort of try build a guide of like watching the Simpsons and you know,
general sort of recommendations and all that sort of thing. But yeah, averaging
out all of our scores, season six would have been our top ranked season
if it wasn't for that episode. That episode we hated so much that it
put it down into third place under five and seven really seven and five.
Reviewing it in twenty twenty three, though, you've got to give it some
slap because this is back in the day when clip shows were a thing.
Did i't do clip shows anymore? But like, even like Friends was the
biggest show on television that was still doing clip shows, you know, y
right. Yeah. I revisited Malcolm in the Middle not too long ago as
well, and still surprised because, yeah, that's like a relatively late sitcom,
you know, no camped laughter and all that, and it was like,
yeah, that still had four like clip shows in it. That's odd.
Yeah, Yeah, clip shows are not a thing. Anymore. But
I guess I can see why you would find it annoying now in twenty twenty
three, But in nineteen ninety four or five, whenever that episode air lot
season six, it probably wouldn't have been seen as annoying as what we would
see it as now. Yeah, not as bad, And certainly with the
way we consume television and you know, and repeats and sort of things like
that, I guess our main problem with that one was that it was just
telling truncated versions of these episodes and like cutting out some of the best material
out of them, whereas like even something like gump Rost like it did a
bit more with the setup and connective tissue like hated gump Roast hated it.
Yeah, oh no not. I'm only defending that part of it. I'm
not defending the actual episode. And it's like there is a good reason why
that is. The last clip show was written by Dan Castlen, Is that
right, that one? Yeah? Yeah, him and Deabla Custa. Yeah.
They put their names on a few episodes, yeah, especially more as
the series went on. But then we get the obviously the first story here.
So the first segment was officially called the count of Monty Fatso. But
basically it's just, you know, the revenge. So Moe is the Sillia
to like me, Beth Mimosa's trying to steal the wife of Homer in this
story, and he does. I did like the twist at the end though,
essentially where they're like, pamo, we need It was like it's been
five years and it's like, yeah, but I'm still I was I was
your dad. You've been going for five years. We forgotten to be you,
fat boy. Yeah no, And I like the joke. It's just
like, well, you know, then I had to get what was it.
Yeah, I had to hire a lot of contractors to build this thing,
and then I had to get revenge on them at certain points. And
yeah, I did enjoy that twist as well, and putting the like because
I feel like the way these sort of things go, especially when Simpson's through
these tales where Moe is houning in on Marge, it's always like, yeah,
he's just disregarded at the first available opportunity that he was actually their loving
father, because yeah, their actual father was gone for five years. I
did find the mode triplet Maggie's a bit unsettling but whatever, the problem with
these trilogy episodes too, is that when they have an episode involving like margin
Homer, it usually is Mo the one that's used as the person who's trying
to get in between them, because they even did it in the Wetter Stories
Ever told as well, where it was Moe trying to get like Homer drunk
on the ship, remember that one? Yeah? Yeah, and then you
got the Megbeth parody? Was that Mo? And that was Mo? And
that wasn't then Butch trying to get revenge on Mo. Wasn't he? Oh
yeah, there we go another revenge story, but was probably told in the
History episode or something. I don't know. Yeah, so like that,
I don't know, just it says seems like they keep going back to Mow
all the time. Probably mean we have I mean we have Peggy fur maybe
maybe and the luckiest wife in the entire sixteenth this moll let us kiss with
the tongues. Let us kiss with the tongues as opposed to French guess yeah.
And then in that same the Butt and Lisa are like, may we
have this? And then Lisa's like, oh, may we have this candy?
And then Homer's like may we, may we may we. That gets
me, like, because yeah, may we as a French phrase for like
yes or obviously or something like that. Yeah, so it's a few of
these like clever little French language jokes, Like I like this approach rather than
sometimes where they go try to fully like everyone in the cast do whatever accent
of the country that they're parenting, Like I forget. We were talking about
it on the Treehouse of So you liked the Jack the Ripper one where I
wasn't a huge fan because I thought them taking the voice off just got annoying
by the Yanks. I'm like, this isn't jokes, this is just them
doing funny accents. Yeah. I was just about to bring that up as
an example of yeah, an episode I like despite the fact that, yeah,
Marge's English accent is hideous in yeah, and yeah, they do it
a lot lately, Like there was a recent Treehouse of Horror where they were
like doing the Mayan calendar thing and they're all sort of affecting like a Spanish
accent. Was that that was truly That was chreuse of horror. That one
that was yeah, yeah, yeah, I think it was like the twenty
fourth or twenty third or something like that. They all start to blur in
the twenties. Yeah, there's another joke coming up in this segment here,
which I literally wrote my notes, How has this not already been done in
the Simpsons? You've been sentenced to life jokes and you I'm already alive.
I was like, Yeah, that's awesome. That's a really funny joken.
That's a really good term of phrase. Yeah, yeah, like, how
has this not been said before? Like that just seems like golden near Homer
gag right, No, that yeah, excellent, playing with the dialogue here,
Yeah, I like that. Listen to this latter he wrote, Dear
England, how I love your moods and heats for you. I do whatever
it takes, especially treason. I didn't write that even if I did love
England, I'd play it cool, wait for it to come to me.
I sentence you to life, you moron. I'm already alive in prison,
pen pen, I'm gonna start now. I didn't mind Mose setting him up
as well. This is a letter that I found that Homer had sent,
deary England, I love you so much and all like that worked for me.
But yeah, then Wigham taking him away was one of these obnoxiously drawn
out jokes for me, where Wiggham's doing the police siring himself going near there,
and then it goes on and on, and then it zooms in on
Wigham and he's still doing it, and then he just goes, oh,
I'm gonna stop now, like I think I would have. I wouldn't have
hated it if it was just that one shot of him driving off into the
distance, but that they did the zoom in and it still went on and
then he goes awkward. You know, it just really didn't land. Quite
often in recent episodes, we've found they are explaining their jokes more and more
often hmmmmm. And it's like, you don't need to explain it. If
you don't get it, then just move. It doesn't matter. You know,
the people will be they'll get it eventually. You know. That's it.
They didn't pause and stop and explain the diddler and like why they're so
clever for making those connections. They just said it and it was the twiddling
of the fingers as well, like they did. I really hate thinking of
flats in that light. But then we get home getting tortured in prison,
and I was a big fan of him getting please losing my arm so I
can shake my wist and yeah, put this in the Homer Shaking Fist playlist.
Yeah, Homer has a friend in the mouse, which he eats as
you probably would would you if you were locked in prison and you hadn't been
fed, probably like a shitty prison like this, would you resort to eating
a mouse or something like that? Could you do it? I don't think
I could even kill a mouse, let alone eat it. Yeah, well,
I mean lock me in the highest tower of a prison and we'll see
what I do. But yeah, it is a hard thought to make.
Yeah, like the yeah, especially raw, I feel like that's even worse.
Like if there's a way that I can make up like a little prison
grill, maybe have a little uh rat shishkebubs or something like George. Yeah,
yeah, try sneaking one of those into a cake into a prison.
Yeah, he's got a semment here and it's mister Burns. I was getting
like a Latin ViBe's here. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, it is very
much that. Like, Yeah, when Jafar like dresses up sort of thing,
yeah, yeah, and leads him to the cave of wonders, but
he's been well, we actually get a bit of like a rape gang here,
which I was a little uncomfortable with. So basically he's like, I'm
doing this because you know, I'm too old now. I want to go
to I've spent thirty years doing it. I wanted to go to good use.
And I violated you repeatedly while she slept. And I was like,
I'm not sure rip gags a good thing. I'm like, I'm all for
the diddler, but like, this is just blatantly saying I raped you while
she slept, and I was like, oh shit, yeah, with the
deadly you can say there's an element of cleverness about oh, like how they
put the joke together, but this is just like, like, all you're
relying on is the delivery of Burns and it doesn't say but it's just it's
uncomfortable. Nah, it's not cool at all. Yeah, And I mean,
on the lesser end of the scale, I also didn't like the mister
Burns going oh, you wouldn't have noticed me because you're so self centered.
And then Homer's looking in the yellow water is like, oh, hello,
there, looking good, and it's like this character hasn't really sort of displayed
self centered tendencies. If anything, he was just a good family man and
whatever. This is just this comes out of nowhere, and it's not Homer
Simpson characteristic either. Like, yeah, it just didn't work for me.
I was more disappointed of the fact that they ruined the yellow water gag because
obviously that's meant to be a piss, a puddle of piss on the floor.
But then Homer comes up through that in the floor and I'm like,
oh, so that's water from the ocean. Why is it yellow? Then
you've ruined the gag. Oh, yeah, you're right. And how is
that water rising up that? Anyway? How's he getting there? It does
make sense, how's the water going up? Yeah? But he uses the
map to retrieve the buried treasure, eventually finds it, and five years later
he's loaded, he's got he's now the he's the count of the town.
We then cut to Mo and he's the new dad of the family, and
I guess we're supposed to just assume that Mo just became a good dad.
Yeah. Well, I like how they don't like explain it before the twist
at the end, because yeah, you could go from everything that we saw
before, like oh, he's just a creep ward that when Homer gets his
revenge, he will have what's coming to him. But then that it's like
then done as a pullback and revealed. No, he was like good to
these people, and like he gave these kids a father when they didn't have
one. Yeah, no, like and I like it when he's like he
still hasn't revealed that he's Homer, and he's just this counter of Monte Cristo
and he's putting on this party that has invited them to and like get one
of these crowd murmured jokes where it's like you know, rubs and cars,
and then you just hear one person cut through going I've heard rumors he's mysterious,
Like that's just a good line to me. But eventually reveals his identity
and they get it when he takes off the mole. Now have you seen
the Muppets Most Wanted? Oh yeah, yeah, I've only seen that one
once. I'm generally a big Muppet fan, but no, not so much.
This is I mean I remember going to the movies to watch it,
but then my kids became huge Muppet fans. Thank God, because I love
the Muppets as well. And now that's a podcast like to start one day
that the Muppet podcast. I've already got it going talking Muppets, got a
logo and everything. I just wait for someone to do it with. Don't
tempt me, I've got oh. I have deep history with those guys.
That's the one. I feel like there's no good Muppets podcast out there.
That's the money, mate, Like we could do it. Yeah, we'll
talk off pod. This could be a thing. But now I just want
to talk about the Muppets. But basically, that whole story is that Constantine
is the evil Kermit and he's hut the mole on his face and he slaps
one on Chemis's face and everyone thinks that he is Constantine. Yeah. I
was just getting vibes up. It's most wanted in this. Yeah. But
then we get Homer. Yeah, so your real his identity. He murders
mo by put him in the crape and burning him alive and cooking him,
and the family just can't believe it. They're all just devastating that you know,
you've you've killed my husband and Poppa Moan. Who's gonna take care of
the Triplets. Yeah, and yeah, it's kind of a depressing ending you
really think about it. Yeah, Like, like I said, I do
like that twist and the subversion on the end, but like, I'm also
a big fan of Roupe Goldberg machines and this just didn't do it for me.
Man, the whole the what do you call it? The Harmless Chair
of Relaxation, and then it starts out with like a fish squirting him and
then a hanky slapping him, and then a cannon that shoots a spring loaded
boot to his crotch, and then yeah, we get the crapes and then
out comes the branding him. I was like, oh no, Suzette,
So like, yeah, man, I wanted so much more for a Roupe
Goldberg masie and this just didn't. It didn't do it for me. And
the ending where it gets back to present day and Homas wasn't listening to Marge
at all, I was like, that's right, this guy's a dick when
when they needing to be Yeah, yeah, that's right, and he's listening
to Jamaican beats and doing a probably problematic accent right here. Yeah, because
we just reviewed the Wife Aquatic and for the most part home, it's a
really good husband, father, and that like he's taken the family to this
barnacle bay because he was marched. If we live this childhood memory and he's
just doing all this nice shit, and I'm just like, why did he
just chop and change with this guy? Yeah, it's clear when when he's
a good person, the episodes are better. What do you persists with this
version? Yeah, and when it's he's so singlely focused over something just as
simple as being cut off like that just to me lends into the hole.
Like this episode's premise just feels so contrived. It's just like, oh,
whatever, someone cuts him off and that's why he's angry and they're on a
car trip like and returning to this is the thing that he's so hell bent
on revenge for it. Just yeah, I don't think it's justified, even
in our homer like over exaggerating, overly emotional way, like, yeah,
this is veering too close to the whole, like jerk ass problem for me?
Have you ever been cut off? Though? So many times I live
in Sydney, man, Like, I imagine traffic's bad in Melbourne and Geelong
too, But holy crap, Oh, shit, man, there's I've got
a story that I'm not gonna bother boring you guys with. But Nick and
I had a night in Melbourne on Friday and traffic at like five thirty short,
long story short. We're staying at this hotel in the Docklands, Melbourne,
right, very very busy part of Melbourne, and the key to so
it's on a busy ride, a really really busy road where in the middle
you can't do a U turn. It's basically you got one road. If
we get to the other side, you get to go all the way around
the block and come back up the other way again. It's like like a
forty minute drive in like pete traffic, just around this block. But this
guy thought the apartment was staying at and all his wisdom to lead the key
for the apartment at a place across the street and said to park your car
there, when really we could have parked our car at the apartment first and
walked across the road. So we part our car at this easy mart and
then we realized we have to add another forty five minutes to add trip to
get to the other side of the road because of the shitty directions that there's
a nightmare and you can just see your final destination and like I could fart
and the people could smell it. You know, that's how closely you were.
Jesus christ. Ah, that's brutal. I was like home with the
stick almost just put the keys on the end of this stick. Please,
sir. I'm gonna get my revenge and if I get caught, I'm pinning
it on the baby, like the time I shot mister Burns. So what
were your thoughts on here, because they are essentially retconning one of the major
plot lines of The Simpsons, where he says, if I get caught doing
this, I'm gonna put it on the baby like I did when I shot
Burns. Yeah, it's a a blink and you miss it kind of gag
kind of thing, Like it just says a move on. But it's like
it's essentially reconning the whole story, right, Yeah, that's the thing,
and coming back to the continuity only matters when it does story. I guess.
I guess because of the throwaway line nature of it. To me,
it didn't like rub me too much the wrong way. But I mean,
also it just sort of comes back to the whole, like the Simpsons criticizing
their own decision to make Maggie the killer, and it's like, no,
own it, Like it's that was your choice. Then don't like try and
rectroactively like yeah, change it or anything like that, or say it doesn't
make sense. No, that was the choice you made then, Like that's
the thing that people write in this episode. Weren't part of the weren't part
of that team? Yeah, true, true, Yeah, So that would
be my mentality if I was working with the Simpsons in like season eighteen,
I would never try and repcon something from like season eight or seven or whatever
without the permission from the people who actually made a decision. It's like,
don't fuck with the past. That was their decision, don't change it.
Yeah, that's it. And like, I guess I just hate the self
criticismness of it, Like I just feel like it's it's not like a mistake
you had to own. This was a very good episode that you like,
you don't need to pretend that was a bad decision. Like, I mean,
I remember being very disappointed people have People still think it's a pretty stupid
decision. Yeah, stupid. It's a stupid conclusion. But you know,
like you said, they made a decision, you got to stick with it.
Yeah, but that's the problem with it. You couldn't have pinned it
on any other character without serious legal repercussions for it. Yeah, it's literally
the besides, maybe Samda's little helper, like was the smartest decision. Yeah.
Then Lisa tells the story Revenge of the Geeks, and as I said,
I think I enjoyed this one of the most. So the boys are
playing a game of what's it called whether that there you're pushing the discs on
the ice. Oh yeah, it's a bit like curling, isn't it curly?
That's the one, Yeah, with the Geeks and Skinner as well.
And Martin then reveals in the science lab he's now built a get Bacon eight
and all it requires to operate it is a small amount of coordination. Reminds
me of kind of like the Infinity glove thing. Is it the Infinity glove?
What's what's Yeah, the infinity got like way before the Simpson's predicted it,
even though it existed many years before in the comics. So the infinity
gaulet right by back when I sed to work a pop Coach. When that
film came out, that was such a hot sell, like every kid wanted
to have a Gotland on their hands at Christmas time. But hasn't Marvel fallen
since? Yeah no, I was one of the biggest fans of the MCU
movies, but Phase four man want to turn around, Like I don't care
to watch any of the shows. Pretty much every movie that I've watched,
maybe with the exceptions of Guardians three, I have disliked. I haven't seen
it. Yes, I don't see what happens, but I'm going to watch
it just because I have to watch it to sort of complete the trilogy.
Yeah. No, it's a perfect and that story I'd say with the Marvel
films, right the Phase four is it a case of no matter how good
the writing is, if people don't give a shit about the characters, then
it's not gonna work. Like, no one gives a shit about the characters
in Phase four. I'm sorry, they just don't. Yeah. I think
it's also like overexposure as well, and like no better emphasize than with the
TV shows as well, because Disney Plus has ruined it with the shows.
Yeah, I mean same with Star Wars as well. Is that. Yeah,
I used to get very excited for the new Star Wars movie, but
now that it's a Star Wars series, like I feel like I'm hearing about
the new one coming out, and the fuck I still haven't watched the other
three, you know, and it's sort of more of a chore rather than
like a big movie that you know, we gather the friends and go to.
Like, yeah, MCU movies were like an event and like they weren't
always going to be the greatest movies. I think it's worse though. Were
like a reliable seven out of ten sort of experience, but like because of
the shows as well, because you're watching out home, it's like more isolated,
so it's not as like a fun atmosphere as it was to get your
friends to go to the cinema to see them. And and I mean,
yeah, I can't blame everything on the pandemic, because yeah, the movies
themselves as well have just really dropped in quality. And the whole multiverse thing,
you know, it's just already tired. And I think the promise of
multiverse superhero movies hasn't been lived up to, Like it's it's just made for
either lazy or confusing storytelling in my opinion, but did make having good pandava
special there. Yeah, yeah, I ended up checking that out. That
wasn't too bad. Actually put a chicken it and make it gay. It
was fucking hilarious. Yeah, that was the refrain of the thing, that's
for sure. I did love the way though that they made Kathleen Kennedy the
baby face by the end, made you realize we're all to blame for this.
It's not just it's not just like Disney's fault. You guys fucking bitch
and moan to the point where they felt like they had to do a complete
fucking one to eighty and then you bitch and made it like it's everyone's at
fault here. You know, we all need to take a step back,
sit down, and that's the potblem. I said to Nikola, this is
exactly what needs to happen, is that Kathleen Kennedy in the faces of Disney
and to sit down and just fucking talk it out with the fans, not
just hiding their offices and make their decisions. Come out and be like,
look, this is why we're doing. Tell us why you don't like it.
Have an open forum I feel like they had an open forum. It
make things all better. Yeah, But I mean there is just a glot
of entertainment right now, when like putting out these shows that are like a
five out of ten is just it's not doing it anymore. Yeah, they
know they need to seriously either yeah Shelvy to start again, or it's something
like just at least scale it back. Yeah. Well, guys, he's
right when he says it's like Star Wars has become homework now and it's never
been more more evident. Then I started watching the Boba Fett show and then
I got bored of it and stopped watching, right And then I started watching
Mando season three, and I was like, wait, why is Gogo's with
mandoig? When the fuck did this happen? What? And it's like,
oh, it happened in Book of Boba Fett. And I'm like, hang
on, that's not the fucking Mandalorian. What's going on? So you tell
me how to watch that show now to understand the Mando Come on? No.
Yeah, And I feel like the MCU as well had this problem when
Agents of Shield was a thing, and like a couple of plot points in
the movies relied on that, and it's like, no one's watching fucking Agents
of Shield. Nobody. That's the aw Ram page of Marvel Shows. Good
day to all our aw fans. But as I was saying, I really
liked this. So you all requires to operate the inffinity Gautlan is a small
amount of coordination. They're all a bit worried about that. Will has to
juggling at camp, juggling class whatever was a camp good morning dingases what are
you doing touching each other's butts? You are so dead, you're alive.
That is such a funny way to just like because I know that. Yeah,
Martin's you know, he's a problem solving nerd. You know he figured
out the scientifically best line to immediately get their eye are as quickly as possible.
Yes, because good morning dinguses what are you doing touching each other's but
And they raced towards him, went to the library. Little Hitler joke here
before Nazi leader, he was a Nazi reader and Milhouse then gets revenge my
bags. What were your thoughts on Kearney's use of my fun bags? Is
that just an Australian thing, the term fun bags? Yeah, it's one
of those things like when you hear Americans say fanny and then you have to
reprogram. Oh okay, that's right, that doesn't mean the same thing.
But like fanny, like you know, that's just their word for it,
where like fun bags is just the term we've made up for breasts because their
bags are fun to some people. Yup. It's like for him and Kearney
call him his fun bags. I'm like, are you guys using a term
that incorrectly here? I've never heard a guy call his man titties, his
man boobs fun bags before. Well, Kenney hasn't does, and he thinks
they're fun and yeah, but he starts hitting Jimbo with a stop hitting yourself?
I like this where it changes to why are you hitting yourself? Yeah,
because man, it just seems like the most obnoxious way to beat someone
up. Why are you hitting yourself? Stop hitting yourself? I'm like,
oh, what a douchebag. Yeah, had a few of those in my
time. I'll tell you what. Really shout it out to my older brothers.
Lisa, then thanks Millhouse. You know we can all the nerds can
breeze easy, breeze breathe easy. Now except the ones of asthma. Of
course, Martin accidentally hits Millhouse with a shuttle cock or something and he uses
a device on Martin. He starts beating up all the nerds with his glove
naws. He's just losing his mind. You're kind of right though, where
he sort of like takes revenge out on all the nerds as well. But
I guess it's just a play on someone who's been beating up their whole life.
They just get power hungry and it's just goes to their head and they
just lose control of what's right and what's wrong. Yeah, I think it
just happens a bit too quickly, and I mean you can give the episode
a bit of leeway, and it's, yeah, it's a three segment story
sort of thing. But yeah, I just would have liked to see the
turn a lot more fleshed out because and I think the other problem that I
have with the back end of this segment as well is that they kind of
burnt all the good glove bullying, I don't know what you call them,
all like the purple nourple and wet willies and things like. They burnt out
all those jokes on the first half of the segments. So when we do
this, he's just like doing the same things to the nerds, and we
don't get any evolution in those jokes except for the new kid who goes,
I just came here to the first time today. I haven't done anything to
you. I didn't mind. Millhouse is, oh you will. But then
yeah, it's just the freshman facial. I don't know. There wasn't a
much development with those anyways. Yeah, and you had an issue with the
diddler. Yeah. Actually, here's a weird connection to our other podcast as
well. I like the idea that even like brown Skeeper Willie was bullying Millhouse,
just in such a blame way. It's like, oh, what's good,
what are you doing? Gonna have some more of your weirdo pills?
And then yeah, Millhouse decapitates him. And then Principal Skinner looks at Groundskeeper
will He's like, hey, will you clean all this up? And then
will he starts drinking his own blood. And ah. Another connection with our
other podcast where we talked about drinking blood recently. Yeah, those of you
wondering in aw this week a wrestler drank the blood of another person. Actually
blood was pointing down this guy's face. He got underneath his face, opened
his mouth and let the blood drip into his own mouth. I was horrified.
Well, yeah, he may not have drunk it. We didn't see
him swallow the blood, but we certainly saw him spit it up in the
air. It dripped into his mouth and he spat it everywhere. And not
cool. Not cool at all much of the year though. For more aw
phone check out gd But Yeah, as you're saying, yes, I guess
the prevenge on the ni Kid, I'm a fan of like Bart's eye coroner.
He's like, that's the only line I get, And Lisa says,
there's no small parts, only small actors. I'm like, what was the
point of that? Excuse me? Sorry, that was gonna be my other
trivia thing. Sorry, I just saw my little note of that asked that
as a trivia question. What was Bart's only line in this thing? Yeah?
I just didn't get the need to It killed the momentum of the scene.
I I'm like, ye, what purpose did that serve? Yeah?
Absolutely, and especially like at this time where yeah, Millhouse is like about
to turn it on Lisa and it's having this yeah, character conflict moment yeah,
that you're right. Yeah, it really did screw with the momentum.
But then this is where Milhouse, he says, because List is concerned,
and Millhouse says, you're gonna love it when you're my queen, and yeah,
he's just he's gone, he's gone mad. And I'm not sure that
this actually happens in any of the Revenge of the Nerd movies because there's a
lot of them, right, it's like three or four, not this obviously
to this level, but like, is there a thing where a guy gets
some sort of like ability to sort of beat up other kids and then the
power gets through his head or something, or is it just it was just
a play on the name. Yeah, okay, Nah, this has nothing
to do with the Revenge of the Nerds besides the fact, like some nerds
get revenge, and even then it's their approaches are very different. I see
why it would be an honor to be your queen. Gone. I feel
it would be best if we just stay friends. Nobody speares my feelings.
I can't do it. I can't hurt you, Lisa. You forgot about
me because I had the momps I actually would have liked I thought it would
have been funny. It's a wasted gag. Obviously, Nelson's one at the
end that takes it and you forgot that we had them forgot to have the
mumps. That's why he wasn't around. But it would have been funny to
have had used like the full Nelson on Nelson somehow. Ah. Yes,
another one for our wrestling fans. Yeah, yeah, true. Back to
present day and trying to have the whole message of when you take revenge revenge
on somebody, you're just as bad as the person that you harm, and
Homas says, no, the lesson is never put you down your weapon.
Basically, Homos is not listening to any of the stories, and it's just
not a great sort of like what are these called when they're in between the
seconds in between? Oh, the interstitials or something. You know that there's
a name for it, but basically they used to use wrap around in the
earlier ones, but they're they're not great in this episode, are they?
Yeah? Well, I forgot to mention as well. At the start of
this segment, it was set up with Lisa being like, you know,
Dad, I also know a tale about blah blah blah, and then Homer
goes, oh, is it the Count of Monte Cristo. I love that
story, and you're just U fuck this guy. Yeah. We then cut
to the rich text and enjoying his view and Home's about to get revenge on
him, and it's time for Bart's story. And was like, no,
he's too dumb for a story. And I was like why why why is
he being this cruel? It's just stupid. But and Bart's isn't a time
that I like to call the past. This is where this story is set.
It is a called Man begins. I'm a big I'm a mark for
Bartman. I just like Bartman. I just rewatched three minute of comic book
recently, the first appearance of Bart Men. What a great episode. Essential
it is. It is an essential episode of the Simpson's. Yeah, just
the introduction to comic book guys as well. But when they're all just like,
we don't want this comic book anymore, freaking kids, and I was
like that that is my life, freaking kids. Given that catchphrase a workout
before. Yeah, it's you know, I used to hate the episode my
sister my sitter, right, Yeah, I've just never really liked that one.
And then I watch it now where Bart's like little more, little more,
too much. My kids do that, but Bart doesn't deliver. And
that's what I didn't like about it was Bart was so deliberately mean to Lisa
in that episode, right, But I watch it now and I can relate
to Lisa's pain of what the fuck mate? Like, like, my kids
are like I want more, drink more, more, more appetuice. I'm
like, maybe more please. I'm not not that March, And I'm like,
freaking kids, you just need them to go to bread already. You
didn't see which bread. But we're at New York and we've got a little
King Kong reference here. He's waving from the top of the tower. And
Bart's walking from the opera with his parents and obviously he's a young Bruce Wayne.
He's heading down the alley. Why they walked in the alley, I'm
not too sure. And Marge then turns a ring around is actually a bigger
one is where snakel the serpent as it turns out to be, shoots Homer
and then shoots Marge because Mama says something in the lines of like don't shoot
her or something. He's like, oh, you don't frighten me bang or
my wife wife bang? Yeah? Or my kid She's like shut up.
They both die. We get the iconic necklace fall into the ground shot avenge
me in a flamboyant in practical fashion. I like that, Yeah, I
like that like as well, like we're talking about, when they do they
sort of more direct parodies of pre established things. It's like, all right,
how do we Simpson's eyer and you know, doing the crime alley scene.
We've seen this a million times. It's the pearls dropping, but you've
got March there, so of course you do the red pearls. It's yea,
a fantastic bit of tying in and then also undermining the source material.
I love that. Yeah, in practical flamboyant fashion. Bart can't do anything.
No, he's had the chance to sort of take the serpent down and
he lets him get away. He's then standing at the graves and it's quite
a sad moment there, but Grandpa walks up and he's going to be the
Alfred here. He's going to get him into shape the old timey way.
A little bit of a montage of him getting into shape, the old Tommy
way, gets into awesome shape. Then we have a Pooh and he's got
his little stall and someone has stolen the herald slash Harold tribute tribunes. And
but then it eltricutes him in a very overseellious homicidal way. Yep and yeah,
but then tells him you're not gonna pay the We're not going to buy
anything. Move along good like the Springfield. I mean, Gotham underworld is
trembling while silent citizens sleeps. Snuggers a bug right because Bartman is knocking down
bad guys like already use knacks up, young Star. It's bad guys like
the Talker, the Deddler, mister bowl Sugar and Spice, and Parson money
a new snake tattoo. When will I find the man who murdered my parents?
When attention bart Man, this is the serpent saying, fangs a lot
for getting rid of the competition, more stuff for me to steal. Oh,
no villain is safe from me, Serpent. I'm not a villain.
I'm a transvestite. Explain that to your maker. I'll take it from here,
bart Man. I've seen this image of poisoned lady so many times I
could never pinpoint remember where it came from, and it's in this I like
to hear him being a villain. They ruined it with the transvestite dad coming
up there, I was like, didn't need to go there. Yeah,
this is reprehensible at best. Like, look, the best way you can
take this joke is that it's a comment on police brutality or whatever. But
you don't want that from your Simpsons and that yeah, Lenny poison Lenny goes,
I'm not a villain, I'm a transvestite. Then but with that information
electrocutes him and then Wiggan goes, I've got it from here and shoots poison
Lenny four times. It's just disgusting, and especially when you find out in
the disproportionate way that transgender people are murdered. It's just there's no reconciling this
supposed joke. It's just awful. Like this is enough to tank this episode
down, like many rating markings just because of this joke in my opinion.
Well, there's a lot of gay panic and homophobic gags. Yeah, in
recent seasons, more more and more evident than ever before, which is a
shame because you know you're talking abot to show the head homophobia ten years prior,
and yeah, and they're doing jokes like this now and it's easy to
sort of just do the cop out of well, it's just a sign at
the times, it's like I get that, and you know, we're reviewing
it through twenty twenty three eyes. Would we have been as annoyed with this
joke in twenty twenty three? Probably not, I'd sorry. In two thousand
and seven, probably not right. More and more people were getting away with
making this kind of joke, and it wasn't widely acknowledged that this isn't the
right way to go about things. We kind of all we all knew it
wasn't right, but it was just the jokes were made. You know,
it's hard to sort of it's hard to explain to someone who's a young person
now why we ever thought it was acceptable in any way. So, reviewing
this with tween twenty three eyes, I look at it and go, it's
just terrible. I just don't think it was just necessary at all, Like
it just it just didn't need to be there. I'm not sure how they
thought it was funny to sort of have I'm just a transvest diet. You
know, I'm not a super villain and we're going to kill you anyway.
They might not have meant it being that they're killing it because it's a transvestor,
but it just comes across that way with the way it's handled. So
maybe it was just poor direction. I'm not too sure, but it comes
across like only because he's a transvestite, which probably isn't a joke that needed
to be in the episode. No, not at all. And we're trying
to portray Bartman as this righteous character and aside from everything else, he's killing
an innocent person. And like they take a bit of leeway with the whole
Batman parody because Batman's whole thing is like he's not meant to kill. And
like, I feel like this episode almost got close to like making a comment
is like he does kind of like leave his the criminals he beats up in
a way that they will probably die, Like the episode gets close to making
that comment but never does. And then yeah, shit, like this just
first of all undermines the character that you're meant to be portraying as righteous,
and yeah, it gives this episode, it gives this segment of real dark
tone that it just doesn't need. That Then like is really confused again when
we move into the next scene, where then it just does turn into like
an Adam West Batman sort of mode. Maybe that was trying to sort of
cover all ground, you know, because we've had both versions of the Batman.
You had the Burton, you had the Christopher Nolan, and you had
the fanboyant TV sixties era and the later nineties ones as well mid to late
nineties. Yeah, well, I mean in this mode as well, I
think you want to be going hard in on the Nolan one. Yeah,
this is the most relevant movie, the most relevant trilogy, and it's just
not But it's not funny though, is it? Is it? You can't
get any humor out of the Christopher Nolan esque Batman vibe. I thought they
were doing a decent job, like and especially like the whole old timey workout
thing. Yeah, that's the era that you're parroting. So yeah, yeah,
go for it and do all those jokes about is an old timey gym
equipment funny, you know, that sort of thing. But yeah, then
just sort of like mixing it in with the stylistic differences, like yeah,
there was just a lot of tonal inconsistency for this segment for me, it's
reviewed. It's revealed here that Bart is looking for the snake tattoo, So
showaway were it a snake, but you know that's what Bart's gonna be doing,
is you can be looking for the villain has the tattoo of the snake
on his neck. We're now at the museum and Lou says, there's no
sign of the serpent demand anywhere. Everything's always worked with you, Like,
nah, yeah, I did like that line. I feel like that,
like the relationship between Lou and Wigham really broke down in the last like two
or three seasons, like Wigham was just always mean to Lou. Now yeah,
yeah, to use another worst episode ever term is that they call it
the Wigham Lou Corner, where a lot of yeah, post classic Simpsons would
just go for these Chief Wigaman Officer Lou like snippy, little like relationshipy sort
of humor sort of thing. And it's also extra weird when you put in
the context, Oh, both these people and characters were voiced by Hanka Zaria,
so it's just Hanka's Aria having these little conversations with himself, like like
you think, like it's just just him riffing in the voice booth, and
they were like, yeah, we love it. Leave it in Like,
but I mean, this was not a bad one to me. I like
that delivery of everything's work with here one thing that always annoys me, like
my pet Peeve in modern season Simpsons. On the show here, I've actually
got one of our patrons, Dan the man he's keeping track of how many
times it happens is the appearance of Side Show Mel. Oh yep, he
gets two appearances in this one, and this is one of them. Here,
so the Serpent's music starts playing in Side Show Mel. My boon's got
to mind of its own. I'm like, when did he become a main
side character because he rarely spoke in like the first twelve seasons. I want
to say, right, really, really, unless it was a crusty episode,
you never heard Mel, like occasionally you would, you know, I
want to hear from sideshow Mel. That's what Fanner says in Who Shop Was
the Band? So like he occasionally spoke, but it was rare to hear
him speak. Now it's every episode I've got something to say in the crowd.
It's like fuck off, yeah, Like this is one of the bad
things about the teens and then especially the HD era Simpsons is they kind of
delved into a bit of like Little Britain style like catchphrase humor and yeah,
we get this from side show Melt, it from klead Us as well,
where it's just like this, oh he comes up, here's an incest or
meth joke, and then or an old Gil bit like and it just sort
of becomes these things where like the story didn't call for these characters. You
were like, this is where we can get the character to come in do
their catchphrase and I'll be off now sort of thing, and like, yeah,
they really did put it a lot of over valuing on Mels verbos,
delivery and that sort of thing. And yeah, look forward to next season,
season nineteen, where they do an episode narrated by side show Mel.
You mentioned this one. I'm a little nervous. You've had Lisa goes Geger.
You're gonna see Dander going Geger. Yeah. I am sickly looking forward
to hearing you review that episode. Man, I think it's gonna send you
baddie. That episode's going to start off with GUIDs doing the intro. Dano
not there. Dando died on his way back to his own planet. Yes
he did. Indeed, that music it's so hypnotic. May Boone has a
mind to be tune. I'll be sneaking those jewels and venom gotta go.
Sorry, I didn't ask your permission. Hope. That's Cobra setic. Hey,
jerk puns are lazy writing up. Batman then arrives and he stands in
the dip. The party is over, and he realizes that the serpent is
the one with the tattoo well obviously, and he kills him by pushes him
back ironically on fangs, and that is the end of the Serpent. Then
Lisa the reporter, she rocks up. You know it didn't bring your parents
back? Boy, tell me, big boy, was it a really worth
it? And he's like, well, it didn't bring him back, but
I've got millions of dollars and no one tell me what to do with it.
Color Kevin McAllister, Yeah, And then the episode ends with him using
the weird vibrating band old timing machine and then Bikinni's like jump in the pool,
but he's like, nah, segment over, Yeah, and that's the
end basically, So we have back and present time, but points out,
you know, the acknowledging this the three stories I've told, and this one
you know would have been the firm will been better as a Halloween story.
And then home and the rich text and the bonding over the fact that they're
both from where Connecticut? Connecticut? That's right, and he says, how
many starts you think about there? Hammer says two. Then they lay there
to figure out why humans are inclined to hate each other, and they dedicate
the episode to all those who died in the Star Wars film. Speaking of
Star Wars. Yeah, and that's the end of the episode. So as
season eighteen sends to roll on, majority of the episodes have very weak endings.
They're not really leaving you on much of a high note. And I
think that reflects on the overall positivity of the reviews. I think a lot
of the time the episodes ended after the second act, it probably would be
given a more positive review. But the last it's like they can't see the
landing anymore. It's like they write an episode and then go, oh,
fuck, how are we going to end it? I don't know, just
think of something, you know. It's like they haven't planned an ending out
anymore, because so many of the endings just seem so rush store out of
nowhere or make no sense or just trying to tell a message. Yeah no,
this one as well, like because yeah, at the end of art
story, Homer was just ignoring him the whole time and talking with rich Texon
on the hood of the car. And then it's like they're not solving their
difference, as they're just doing a stupid little fucking only two stars and then
it just I don't know, riffs it its way to an end question mark
and then just goes out on this Star Wars like scroll of all these names
and whatever people who died in Star Wars, and like there weren't any really
good jokes in that as well. It just felt weird and like why are
we doing this? It is a bit of the lolso random era of humor,
the era of comedy. I reckon it was the Family Guy influence.
I think, oh yeah, one hundred percent. Yeah, yeah, that
would have been so much damage to animation. Yeah, I mean, God
bless me, he's made him a lot of money, but he's brand of
humor. Really, I don't think for the better, No, I mean
it's a mix because yeah, Family Guy, I feel like settled into its
right, where yeah, it doesn't matter, we're just setting up sucking a
long line of gags. But then like American Dad tried, like and it
still does like, it actually makes stories with good structure and satisfying endings and
you know, a logical through lines with the plot. But yeah, the
Family Guy effect is yeah, gonna be especially felt in these later teen seasons
where yeah, it's just like, I mean, the best tay you can
give it is that it's a subversion of the old format of tying a nice
making everything wrapped up in nice, neat little package. But yeah, now
excuse me package. But yeah, now the joke is undermining that, which
I don't know, maybe played at the time, but now it just especially
when you're watching a lot of these episodes one after the other, it's just
like, yeah, it's just a pattern. It wasn't a one off to
subvert. It was just you get you get out of episode free card.
What do we learn, Bomber, what'd you learn from the episode? Mister
elliot j And yeah, yeah, never put down your weapon, Never put
down your weapon. That is correct. I learned too. I've like that
it is okay to commit homicide as long as you're saving somebody eighty cents.
Yeah, that's the price. That's what a life is worth. All right,
guys. Now what's gonna happen is I'm actually gonna get in touch with
mister Guy Davis and we're gonna do his new name Championship in a few moments.
Yeah, obviously not recording it right now, but you're gonna hear Guy
Davis's voice in a few moments where we're going to be doing the new new
Championship. That's the one thing Guy we'll be doing. But thank you again,
Alie Janey for Johnny is here on forfing a Discount's been quite a joy
to sit down and talk to your lovely self. No, absolutely, it's
you know, us to Simpsons. Podcasters have been talking about wrestling so much.
It's nice to talk about the thing that got us into podcasting in the
first place. Like, yeah, even dissectingly is you know episodes which like
a life that we can still bring up the good stuff and you know,
still relish in that because yeah, the Simpsons isn't devoid of good content.
And yeah, I love seeing these little glimmers and Yeah, chatting Simpsons with
you is always a treat, and I'm just a little bit warm. I'm
just thinking right now, sometimes it's hard at the best of times for Guy
Davis looking five minutes from my house to get technology to work. So,
if for whatever reason, this show doesn't happens to end in thirty seconds,
that's because I couldn't get this shit sort of, which means that, don't
worry. The new name segment will be on next week show. We'll have
a doubleheader on next week's episode of four figure Discamp. Because I'm fingers crossed.
If this episode you look at your time now, this episode still goes
fro another fifteen or so minutes, it means I got through to guy.
If it doesn't, if you can hear the intro music already, that means
it didn't work. Well, hopefully his teeth are working. Yeah, thinking
of the guy, Good luck with all that. Yeah, before we go
though, talking Muppets, is it gonna happen or what? Oh? Yeah?
Oh man, I'm so excited to buy that ida, especially like I
loved that recent Muppet series they did on the Mayhem Band. I just was
the fucking best, right, I've got the album right here. I bought
vinyl four Oh did awesome? I didn't know that was the thing. Love
it the top the charts, mate, is that right man? Yeah?
I got to get myself a copy of that. Like, yeah, that
episode where were talking, yeah please do because yeah, that episode where Jane
is saying true Colors to what's her name? It left me in tears.
That cover of True Colors is so beautiful. Every song. And there's a
bank here he goes, he's the album holding up for Elliot Jay. That
looks so good. Open it up. It's a gatefold. Yeah. Does
it have a colored vinyl as well? Oh that is a lovely spread.
That is some great heart. There's the back here, very psychedelic. I
believe it is colored vinyl. I shall take it out. We can show
it to you. Let's take it out. It's like you can't see it.
It's like translucent, but it's like swirls through it. Oh that is
unreal. Oh that is beautiful. Every track, yeah, even the original
tracks they may for that show. We're fucking good, right, so good?
Like I get the theme song stuck in my head repeatedly like yeah,
yeah, and yeah, it was just such a good series just so full
of joy and like, I really wish they would do more Muppets material like
that and just like not try to get all the fan favorites in, just
focus on a smaller cast and Muppets and tell a limited series story with those
with a smaller cast of characters. Yeah, this was just why it felt
like it felt like a fresh and original where it didn't have to have Kermit,
it didn't have to have Fozzy in or that in it, and it
was it was it really. I don't think it was like a how the
band came together story. It was more it wasn't set in the past,
was it. No, No, it was set in the modern day.
It was like, yeah, how did this band never record an album sort
of thing. It was just Nicola, my wife, you know Nicola,
she loves the one of rock and roll, oh nah, and part of
the every day but they're just it's amazing how much that show hawd you feeling
emotional for the Muppets again? M m no, because I feel like Disney
have never quite worked out what to do with the license. This is the
first time I was like, you fucking stuck the landing. Yeah, because
even I really liked the Office Muppets show that they did, where it was
about Piggy's late night TV show and them doing the behind the scenes like and
just when I felt like it found its footing, like Candate and ah,
that was such a shame. I thought that could have been an easy four
season show right there. But yeah, and this was like, yeah,
a glimmer of hope that maybe there is more Muppets content to look forward to
in the future. I don't know if they could do another movie quite in
the same way that they did early on, but like, if they do
more of these limited run series, I'm all for it. It was just
such so joyous and yeah in that way that, yeah, they got your
feeling emotions and you'd forget that these are goddamn puppets. You tell so,
you're telling me it's time to play the music. Yes, it's makeup time,
turn the lights all right, man, it's been a joy. Thank
you for joining us here this week. And I forget guys. Guy will
be back next week. I you know what I'm doing. I'm just gonna
say it right now. I'm not gonna bother. I'm just gonna go and
enjoy his time. Ever in Bali, there will be no mail bag this
week. There we know new names this week that the new names will be
on next week shows. A double header will do double the points next week,
so don't worry about that. It will still be happening. But I
think let's just let's just wrap this one up now because guy, he's had
he's had his mouth worked on. He's over there working on his specscript for
his project that he's been working on for years. Let's just not bother him.
Mate, you're asked up, guy. We'll see you next time.
The next episode of four Finger disc Out next week we shall be reviewing Little
Big Girl. Should I be looking forward to this one? Elliott? No,
really, we for a bit of fun with This was actually an unreleased
podcast, but me and BT, my normal co host on The Simpsons in
we had like a tournament where we argued to try and figure out what was
our least favorite episode, and this one ranked very high. Really, I
will flag there is one good joke in it that I still use to this
day, where Bart's driving a car and Lisa goes your hands are meant to
be at ten and two not four and nothing. Only good joke in that
episode but you didn't like an episode that I enjoyed recently, come with what
it was like, and it's a sakend to have opposite taste. But I'm
intrigued. Now I'm going to like it just spite you. Yeah, good
luck. I will try. It's a little big It's not a little big
