Speaker 1: You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio.

00:00:04
Speaker 2: Final Hour on this Thursday, Dan and the Dan It's Dan Patrick Show. Come on in, stay awhile Gang's all here, Fritzy seat and Mars PAULI yours truly the back room, guys, today is picture day here. Everybody got haircuts, they're dressed up and we are going to do our pictures today. Backroom guys, everybody looking fresh. Mario the director got a fresh haircut, Anthony got his, you know, the sides cropped closely. I'm not sure if Tyler get anything different than just being Tyler.

00:00:39
Speaker 3: No hat, oh, no hat today? Okay.

00:00:42
Speaker 2: He wanted to know if he could get a picture with my dog Winnie because when he stays in there during the show and he said, can I decide what my picture is going to be?

00:00:51
Speaker 4: Like?

00:00:51
Speaker 2: I said, yeah, go ahead. I don't know what we're doing with these pictures. But last time we did a picture day was I don't know, ten years ago something like that, maybe longer. Was McLevin here, Yes, oh he was, okay, yes, pony.

00:01:07
Speaker 5: Did you guys ever have growing up grade school photos go bad?

00:01:11
Speaker 3: Yes?

00:01:12
Speaker 5: Do you remember the year the moment?

00:01:13
Speaker 2: Fifth grade fifth grade, my mom decided to give me a haircut and it was called a burr, so she basically shaved my head a buzz cut. And that was a rough day. That was a rough picture. And I don't know why that she decided. She sat me down. Actually I was in a high chair, like we had a high chair, and because I had, you know, younger siblings, and she said, here, I'll give you a haircut because I said, I think I need a haircut.

00:01:48
Speaker 3: I school picture. I remember another one I had.

00:01:52
Speaker 2: I think my sophomore year, bad year for acne, and hair looked just bad. Really, it looked like I had not showered in weeks, and maybe I hadn't, but it was bad. When you go back and you look at that and you're like, oh boy, I never had a good school picture.

00:02:14
Speaker 6: Yes, Tod, I always had this big afro. And I'm looking back and wondering why I didn't get more of a haircut. I just had like this big nerf ball in my head, and I looking.

00:02:24
Speaker 7: Back, I can't believe I had that much hair when I had like none. Now.

00:02:27
Speaker 6: But the most embarrassing thing that I've happened to me that was hair related is I don't know why. The sixth grade teacher thought it would be a good idea to check us off for lice in front of the class individually. We're sitting on a woodn't share facing the class, and she made some kind of comment to me, which ended up being my nickname for a few weeks, called D Day, because she decided to announce to everyone, Oh, you got some Dan drift there, you might want to try a new shampoo. Ow loud now, whispering in my ear, not taking me into the hallway to have a chat with me.

00:02:53
Speaker 3: It's awful.

00:02:53
Speaker 6: And so one of my friends decided D Day might be a fun nickname and lasted at least a couple of weeks, if not a month, because Dan d Day, he thought he was.

00:03:01
Speaker 7: That was hilarious.

00:03:02
Speaker 6: How would you do the check people for license danger in front of the entire class like that?

00:03:07
Speaker 3: What about you?

00:03:08
Speaker 4: Paul?

00:03:08
Speaker 5: I had a first grade photo. My photos were always decent, you know, decent outfit. My mom would make me dress nice. And in first grade I remember walking in and there was a photographer and a lady from the school, like from the office, and she took sh had a thing of water and a comb and she dipped it in water and plastered my hair over to the side. I looked like I had issues. I mean, it is a horrible picture. I'm also missing a few teeth hair there. I'm gonna send it to you guys as soon as I find it. It's a horrible picture. My mom goes, what happened to you?

00:03:39
Speaker 2: It was?

00:03:39
Speaker 3: Is never a compliment for a child.

00:03:42
Speaker 8: I really don't have any I just do have a picture from maybe first or second grade. I have a Bobby Brown gumby, and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. And it was just a sign of the times, like you know, the gumby every.

00:03:54
Speaker 3: Little step back, Oh, the hair like a fade.

00:03:58
Speaker 8: Yes, it was a high top fade and was low on one side and it was going up like a ramp.

00:04:03
Speaker 3: Boy.

00:04:03
Speaker 8: I thought I was cleaned it into the Bill of Health DP. But it was a sign of the times, and I gotta find it because my wife was like, this is the best picture ever.

00:04:11
Speaker 3: Yes, Todd, that was your prerogative to go with that. I see what she did there, See I'm crazy.

00:04:18
Speaker 9: Yeah.

00:04:18
Speaker 10: I actually have a very similar story to Paul's. Uh, like second grade, maybe I went in, sat down photographer was like, Wow, you're a mess.

00:04:25
Speaker 3: Let me clean you up.

00:04:25
Speaker 10: And he like messed with my hair and he was like fixing my collar, doing all this crap, and uh, you know, little kids sit there.

00:04:33
Speaker 3: He smile. We got the picture back.

00:04:34
Speaker 10: My hair was all messed up, my collar was sticking out on one side, my tie was hanging out the other side. And my mom and dad were like, what the hell did you do with your picture? Like, I don't know they could photographer did it. I didn't do that, Like the heck.

00:04:47
Speaker 2: And I wonder if these photographers kind of do things on purpose, you know, is there a sadistic side to them.

00:04:55
Speaker 3: Where they go? You know, I'm bound we messed this one up here, Yes, Tom.

00:04:58
Speaker 6: They themselves may have had some kind of traumatic experience. Instead of being sensitive, I'm going to screw up our other children's.

00:05:03
Speaker 2: Pictures this week on Sunday Night, Basketball Lakers mAbs, Rockets Warriors Sunday and the NBA Playoffs coming to NBC and Peacock, which is where you can find this program. Thank you for downloading the app, and we say good morning to our radio affiliates as well. I mentioned bad April April fool Stay jokes. I thought the Cleveland Browns had a funny one where they released a picture of their helmet, but this is their new helmet, but it is a logo of their old of their helmet, So that's the logo on the side. So all it is is a picture of a smaller picture of the actual helmet as their logo.

00:05:45
Speaker 3: It's snarky.

00:05:45
Speaker 2: I thought it was good. I thought it was funny. And usually we're laughing at the Cleveland Browns. I'm laughing with the Cleveland Browns today. I thought that that one was pretty good. If you're just joining us. Kirk Cousins is going to join the Las Vegas Raiders. I guess I'm a little bit surprised because I thought he was going to go to some place where he knew that he had a chance to compete for the starting job. Now you go in as a backup, maybe the opportunity to start some games this year. But I thought maybe Minnesota would be the place. We had Jeremy Fowler of ESPN on National Reporter and he said Arizona and the Rams. Now I'd been told the Rams to keep an eye out for the Rams. But you know what, he's thirty seven. I think Matthew Stafford's thirty eight like, it's not like you go, we got a young backup here, we do. He's a year younger than the starting quarterback, but he ends up with Las Vegas and he's reunited with Clint Kubiak, who he worked with for three years as his offensive coordinator. All right, eight seven seven three DP show operators sitting by Tyler will take your phone calls. Matt in North Dakota leads us off this final hour. I'm Matt, what's on your mind?

00:07:01
Speaker 11: Good morning, Dan and Dannett's and especially to d Day back there, first time caller, six foot and an attainable one hundred and ninety pounds, thank you. Earlier this morning, you were talking about Tiger Woods, and in particular about being wealthy and not having anybody be able to tell him what to do with that kind of thing. I thought that, you know, a lot of his problems have started since his dad passed away. And if there's anybody in.

00:07:31
Speaker 12: Your life who can you know put up with you being.

00:07:34
Speaker 11: Somebody you know, with wealth and that kind of thing, it'd be your dad.

00:07:37
Speaker 3: Any thoughts on that?

00:07:39
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I guess you could draw a correlation. But you know, his dad did say that, you know, Tiger was going to be a religious figure, So I don't you know, I don't know if it was a I'm going to tell you right and wrong. I know that his dad did tell Tiger to break up with a girlfriend because he wanted him to focus on golf. This is when I think he was in high school. But I don't know what role his dad was playing when Tiger got more famous, because if you're going to talk about your son being a religious deity, I don't know if you're parenting him in a disciplinarian way. RP in Jacksonville, I RP, what's on your mind?

00:08:28
Speaker 13: Yeah, hey, thanks for going to call it dam the first time I call any show. But I just wanted to reiterate what you've been saying about Tiger. I was the position myself and had a car accident and I really hooked on tills. Over forty a day I was doing and I was doing stuff stronger than in Viking in and it was pretty insane. So many rehabs I can't count cost me over one hundred thousand dollars to get my medical license back. But one thing I heard you say yesterday and the day before, which I really appreciate and it really needs to be emphasized, is it is up to that person whoever addictions real and one hundred percent. Like I said, I've been in many rehabs, but until you make that decision, and it is a thousand percent up to you, you have to make that split decision. I'm not going to go get that pill. I'm not going to go finde some when you get these bills, I'm not going to take that drink. So I just wanted to say I really appreciate what you're saying because you're one hundred percent right. It is up to that person. It doesn't matter how many reaps you go to. I don't care if you go out of the country. It is one percent up to you.

00:09:27
Speaker 2: Yeah, you have to empower yourself. And maybe you're not used to listening to anybody else. And you know, if you got that kind of money, you got people who you know, they listen to you.

00:09:40
Speaker 3: They don't tell you.

00:09:41
Speaker 2: Maybe you have advisors and hopefully he does, but you know, Tiger shut out a lot of people.

00:09:49
Speaker 7: Now.

00:09:50
Speaker 2: A few years back, he got rid of some people that he didn't think we're good influences on him, but this comes down to tiger and the tiger, the influence he has on himself.

00:10:01
Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, I've like, over the years, I had tried to quit drinking a lot, many, many, many, many times, and most of the times it was because I had done something really stupid that I felt bad about, or like got in trouble for something whatever. It's like, oh man, I gotta quit drinking. I gotta stop. I can't do that anymore. And it never stuck. It never, it never worked ever. And then now I'm out about I'm coming up on a thousand days without having any alcohol, which I I honestly, I can't say that. The last time I went a thousand days without alcohol is probably in third grade, maybe fourth grade. I started drinking very young. And the thing that changed this time, as opposed to all the other times, was I just woke up one day and was like, you know what, I think I'm done with this. I didn't get in trouble. I didn't have any like crazy guilt hanging over me. I didn't have any like oh man, I gotta what. There was no pressure whatsoever. I was like, you know what, I've been hitting it really hard for a long time, and as a matter of fact, we went Dublin, and in Dublin I had the time of my life. I was like, this was one of the best trips I've ever taken in my whole life. And someone on social media said, hey, people do this thing called sober October, you know, Like I saw that people I get ready for Sober October this and that. I was like, all right, why didn't I just do October and I'll just I'll just quit for one month and then I'll be back for the holidays kind of thing, you know. And two weeks into October, I was like, man, I haven't felt this good in a long time. Why didn't I try to get to Thanksgiving? Why don't I try to get to Christmas? What if I can make it to Saint Patrick's Day? And by the time we got to Saint Patrick's Day, I was good. I was I'm never going back kind of thing, or if I do, it's not for a very long time, but it's the motivation to get there, sort of to that caller's point is what's the most important thing? And for me, always being guilted into it or pushed into it wasn't it. It had to be me being like, I think I'm done with this, you know, I think I think I do. I think I'm gonna stop drinking for a while. I'm not gonna say forever. I don't know, but I'm just not going to do this today, you know. And that that's the only way that it worked for me. I didn't get into a car accident and whatever.

00:12:00
Speaker 3: But you have to have reasonable goals. You have to set reasonable goals.

00:12:04
Speaker 2: It can't be I'm going to go cold turkey, because you're going to fall off the wagon.

00:12:09
Speaker 3: You'll have slip ups. It's natural.

00:12:12
Speaker 2: But if you say I'm going to go without drinking for a week, okay, that's manageable. And then it's two weeks, and then now you maybe it's a month. Now it's to that holiday. Now it's past that holiday.

00:12:26
Speaker 3: People.

00:12:26
Speaker 2: If you say you're going to do cold turkey, it doesn't work. You're going to slip up. Yeah see, And like you know that. It was that it's like, let me just not do this for a month. And then I realized the pressure of the word forever. Yeah, I'm not drinking again forever for the rest of my life. I'm never drinking again. The pressure of that was way too much.

00:12:46
Speaker 3: So I just.

00:12:46
Speaker 10: Removed that and just said, today I'm just not going to drink today. Maybe tomorrow I will, but today I'm not. And all of a sudden, months and months and months past and that just gave me like a certain freedom and lack of pressure of like, all right, maybe someday I will have glad. There's days that I'm definitely like, man, I get that itch man. I would love a sip of whiskey right now, you know, but while the thought of resetting the clock back to zero is way worse than whatever joy a glass of whiskey is going to bring me, you know.

00:13:13
Speaker 2: And you can be in settings people who smoke. If you were in a bar having something to drink and then you got to have a cigarette, you go outside, you know, you just get into those environments where it's normal. And I remember waking up and you'd feel terrible, but it would dissipate, and then you forgot how terrible you felt when you woke up. And then because you can wake up and you go, I'm not drinking anymore, and then all of a sudden, it's four in the afternoon. You go you know, I get to five o'clock. I have a couple of drinks here. But I ran into a friend the other day and he and his wife just had a baby, and he was a big drinker, and so we were talking and I said, hey, you know, I can meet you out.

00:14:01
Speaker 3: Let me know.

00:14:01
Speaker 2: He goes, you know, I'd rather not, and I all got you know, they got to be home with the baby. And he goes, no, no, no, no, I just I'm not going to drink anymore. And I was shocked, the former hockey player, you know, big drinker. And I said, oh, nothing happened. He goes, no, no, no, I just woke up. And I said, I don't like the way I feel anymore. And I have a baby here and you know my wife, and you know I'm selfish. I said, good for you, like you you had to wherewithal you decide.

00:14:34
Speaker 3: That's when that's when things change.

00:14:36
Speaker 2: As I said, yesterday, I had to take somebody close to me with my brother and we had to basically trick them into getting into a car to take them to rehab. And he went kicking and screaming. His wife was mad at us. Mfinus. We didn't tell anybody and you know we saved his life.

00:15:00
Speaker 3: Well, he was going to die. We saved his life.

00:15:03
Speaker 2: And uh it's one of the best moments I ever had with one of my brothers. It's like, you know what, let's do this and uh. He but he when he was in rehab, had to realize, I'm here. Why am I here? I don't want to be here. I need to leave. I'm like, I'm gonna come pick me up. And my brother and I were like, we'll bring you some coffee. We ain't coming, we ain't coming. And then he settled in and all he's been sober for ten years.

00:15:33
Speaker 5: Yeah, pauling and the thing with pills compared to alcohol, I don't have experience, but Ryan Leaf has told me and told us many times he could hide the pills because, like I remember, he went to the seventh, the bar downstairs with us, and he had a ginger ale and we're like, oh, look at Ryan the ginger ale. We're all having a pitcher of beer. And he told the lady was, oh, I's popping pills in the bathroom between wings, and he goes it's easier to hide for him, it was.

00:15:55
Speaker 2: But even if you take these pills, you can you know it could be all I got supplements here or you know this whatever, I've been. Some of the greatest liars, or they think they're great liars, are drinkers and drug addicts because they have to lie every single day to survive. So sorry for the detour there, but not sorry. Let me take a break. We'll come back right after this.

00:16:58
Speaker 2: John reminded me I hadn't spoken about Victor Webbin Yama in an hour's time, and he said, shouldn't you be bringing something.

00:17:05
Speaker 7: Up about he just got seven more blocks like in the last two minutes. I'd have a date game today.

00:17:10
Speaker 3: All right.

00:17:11
Speaker 2: I won't say anything about Victor wembin Yama, but Dwayne Wade, Hall of Famer, talked about Wemby's mentality.

00:17:19
Speaker 15: Listen, they're gonna make the case hard, and Wemby's making the case.

00:17:22
Speaker 3: I love Wemby.

00:17:23
Speaker 15: I think if you're a basketball fan, you have to love this guy's mentality more so than anything. Obviously, the way he plays phenomenal, but his approach and his mentality to the game of basketball. It has a little old school in him. And that's what we like as older dudes. We like a lit talk and we like a love I should be MVP talk like.

00:17:42
Speaker 3: We like that because we like man.

00:17:43
Speaker 15: We won't hear that no more like everybody too nice and too complimentary of each other.

00:17:48
Speaker 2: You know, he ain't about none of that smoke. So that's Dwayne Wade. On the check in with Dwayne Wade. I agree, he doesn't act like he's twenty two years of age. Tom Pelso just sent this over. NFL Network insider Kirk Cousins will make twenty million dollars fully guaranteed playing in twenty twenty six. Now the Raiders aren't paying him the twenty million dollars. So here's how it breaks down. According to Tom Pelsero, the Falcons are going to pay eight point seven million in twenty twenty six, the Raiders paying the one point three minimum based salary. The Raiders pay Cousins ten million dollars fully guaranteed roster bonus on the third day of the league next year. The Raiders hold a two year, eighty million dollar option for twenty twenty seven twenty eight, which is unlikely to be picked up. All right, so it makes some good money there. Feels like you're paying him enough that he's going to be your starter day one. That's kind of the feeling that I got from that. It's a lot of money for Kirk Cousins, and if you're going to bring him in, you want to bring him in and probably have him start the year.

00:19:02
Speaker 5: Yes, boy, And I was thinking about the upsides and downsides of this. Let's say Kirk Cousins starts a few games, Mendoza takes over and does well, what if at the trade deadline someone needs a quarterback?

00:19:13
Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, sure could be factored in. Yeah.

00:19:17
Speaker 2: Uh Fish in Pennsylvania, Good morning, Fish, what's on your mind?

00:19:21
Speaker 9: Hey, Dan and the boys along the lines of April Fool's Day joke. I'm all for a good prank, but it can just get mean. And I think the I don't know if the guys sounded or not. The ultimate is the fake lottery tickets.

00:19:36
Speaker 3: Oh nice?

00:19:38
Speaker 16: And I think there's video of a guy at a Christmas.

00:19:41
Speaker 9: Party or work party who won enough of a large enough amount. They actually quit on the spot and started be raiding his boss.

00:19:53
Speaker 2: So he thought that he had won the lottery, but he got tricked into it, and then he said some mean things about his boss as he's quitting.

00:20:03
Speaker 9: Yes, before they before they told him it was a prank. He quit on the spot and was berating his boss or boss as an owner like got up on stage.

00:20:13
Speaker 4: I believe.

00:20:14
Speaker 9: I couldn't find a video, but it's out.

00:20:16
Speaker 2: There, and okay, well get some of our best people on him. The seventy six ers scored one hundred and fifty three points last night. They did win. Paul George remember him, He had thirty nine points. Uh So Philadelphia is out of the play in tournament now sixth in the Eastern Conference.

00:20:41
Speaker 3: All right.

00:20:44
Speaker 2: Celdy scored fifty three points in the first quarter. They defeated the heat one. Uh Jalen Brown had forty three points. Tatum, by the way, had a triple double. You see I mentioned, Oh did I mention Victor Winbanyama had forty one points and eighteen rebounds and not.

00:21:07
Speaker 7: Thirty seven blocks.

00:21:11
Speaker 3: I'll just do it to annoy you, tah Well in the.

00:21:13
Speaker 7: First six minutes of the game. That was you should mention that.

00:21:16
Speaker 2: The Sixers beat the Wizards. Wizards have one of three teams who have lost four games this year when scoring one hundred and thirty or more points.

00:21:24
Speaker 3: The MAVs and the Bulls.

00:21:26
Speaker 2: Last year, three or more teams all losing at least four games when scoring one hundred and thirty points. Last time that would happen in nineteen sixty nine, nineteen seventy. Man it is it is wild forty fourth time this season a team has scored one hundred thirty or more points in a loss. Brought you by Panini America, The official trading cards of the DP Show Trip in Vegas is back Trip.

00:22:00
Speaker 3: What's on your mind today?

00:22:03
Speaker 17: Hey, good morning, Dan. I had a comment about the Raiders and the question for seating with Cousins coming in with his faith and being the stand up guy. I think him and Mendoza will mesh. I just hope Koviac can clean up all the discipline problems and all the nonsense from just bad play on the field.

00:22:20
Speaker 18: And with Tom.

00:22:20
Speaker 17: Brady as great as he is as a player, it's about time for him to stand up and do something for the Raiders from the front office. And then my question for Stephen is congratulations on a thousand days.

00:22:31
Speaker 19: But isn't that.

00:22:31
Speaker 16: Really the equivalent of six thousand days?

00:22:33
Speaker 17: Since you sit next to Todd.

00:22:36
Speaker 10: Wow shot, it is surprising I haven't been driven to drink again. What I'm powering through one day at a time. You know, I'm better, better some days than others. I can admit, you know I have my bad days.

00:22:50
Speaker 2: I was I was gonna let you hit that softball? Uh, Stephen in Valencia, I Steven.

00:22:59
Speaker 4: Hey, good morning.

00:22:59
Speaker 19: Big man.

00:23:01
Speaker 4: Was six', four a very deceiving athletic two fifty. ONE i would say that the two week no shower in tenth grade probably led to THE acme, problem and then two the under kind of the in the vein of the underdog. Layoffs if you had to lay off twenty percent of the. Crew why would it be.

00:23:26
Speaker 2: TAUGHT i wouldn't lay anybody, off SO i can there's only twelve thirteen of, us you, know like. EVERYBODY i need everybody. Here, NO i thought there are a couple one hundred people in the.

00:23:41
Speaker 7: Show you hear the different. Reports there's really so many people that work on the.

00:23:44
Speaker 3: Show, OH i. Know that.

00:23:47
Speaker 2: Was that was When Colin cowherd said THAT i had like thirty, producers AND i, WENT i don't even have thirty. Employees we have. Twelve let's See paul and With. Carolina, Hi, paul what's on your mind?

00:24:01
Speaker 3: Today?

00:24:03
Speaker 18: Hey good Morning dan And.

00:24:04
Speaker 3: Dan.

00:24:04
Speaker 18: HEY i listened to the show yesterday on the Podcast i'm in The Restaurant. Business SO i listened to the show late last. Night SO i wanted to touch base on THE abs thing where you guys were talking about my first take the C. B buckner played from two nights, Ago my first takeaway or immedia went back To Armando galarraga And Jim joyce and that played at first, base and that played be if that play been, reviewed how Different Galla raga. Is life might be with a perfect game on his, belt but with this abs mean WHEN i watch these, games my first takeaway and these umpires are. GOOD i was watching The yankees game yesterday and we're back to back. Pitches we overturned one on three tenths of an, inch another on one tenth of an inch one hundred mile hour. Fastball, like these guys are barely missing and not understanders some agregious. Calls BUT i think it's a little unfair what these guys are. Doing Major League baseball is doing these. UMPIRES i know the sands love it into this. Fun these umpires are put on a, pedestal make to take the masks, off announce their own bad, calls and then no other. Sport when we're reviewing a play is one official or ONE umpi are put under a single scope of the. Review AND i JUST i think if if we could somehow put a leeway and where maybe if the call is missed by less than half of an inch or the width of the, baseball whatever negligible distance, is maybe the calls, overturned but the player or the team isn't isn't charge the, Challenge maybe they keep it because these guys are missing calls by just the thinnest of margins and to miss a call by a tenth of an inch on The hunda mile over fastball and make the guy take his mask off and, say, HEY i was wrong by one tenth of an inch to.

00:25:29
Speaker 7: ME i love.

00:25:30
Speaker 18: IT i love WHAT abs is, doing BUT i think there might be, some, uh some adjustments made to where these umpires are kind of embarrassed to MAKE i got.

00:25:38
Speaker 3: IT i agree with you, Absolutely.

00:25:40
Speaker 2: Paul but baseball is the one that is trying to slow roll this in to the. Game let everybody kind of get familiar with. It AND i think because of these umpires being embarrassed that we won't be having. THIS i got to tap my. Helmet they should you it on every. Pitch that, way the umpire is not. Embarrassed this is and it is inevitable that it's going to. Happen but this is just up on the. Screen you could have so much interest in this. Drama dress it up and you don't have to embarrass the. Umpire i'm absolutely on board with. That and when we get the commissioner, On i'm going to Ask rob about. That we're singling out the. Umpire, now there have been some egregious calls or miscalls but for the most, part these umpires are probably rating out at ninety six ninety seven. Percent but you, know you've got a factor in the. Batters the. Hitters how many of those hitters have been embarrassed by bad calls by these. Umpires but nobody, said, OH i feel bad for that guy man that calls. Wrong he struck out with the bases. Loaded nobody said anything like. That it was, like, oh that umpire, man he's got a wide strike. Zone why does you have a white strike? ZONE i mean to, ME i never understood, That But baseball should have, said, no we have a, unified uniformed strike.

00:27:14
Speaker 3: Zone is what it. Is that's.

00:27:16
Speaker 2: It it's not open to. Interpretation it used to be there'd be an umpire who you. Know Wade boggs talked about, this And Tony gwyn talked to me about. This he, said both, said IF i take a, pitch that umpire knows that that's not a, strike and even if it is a, strike if you, KNOW i was going to get the benefit of the. Doubt Now Tony gwyn didn't need Or boggs didn't need a benefit of the. Doubt they weren't going to strike, out, Certainly Tony. Gwinn but you, know there's certain, guys there are certain. Pictures you, Know maddox And glavin And smoltz all talked about, that Especially. Glavin they lived on the black and you know the Way tom, threw he had to he had to be a crafty left, hander you, Know so it's gone both. Ways but this is SOMETHING i think baseball AND i Think Rob manfred's done a lot of good, things AND i think this is a good thing. Too we're headed towards automated balls and. Strikes but let's do. It you still have your home plate. Umpire there's still calls that need to be, made but you can put it up on the jumbo. Truck you don't have to have anybody tap in their helmet or doing a thumbs up or thumbs down on a. Call nobody gets, embarrassed get the call, right have some fun with, this the anticipation on. This but you, know now the strategy of when you do. This we had a walk off last, night but you have, to you, know hold on to that or make sure the other ones that you challenge you get, right because you'd hate to have one in the bottom of the ninth inning and you don't have any challenges, Left, Yes, todd was.

00:29:06
Speaker 7: That a cool?

00:29:06
Speaker 3: Moment?

00:29:07
Speaker 8: Or?

00:29:07
Speaker 6: Oh what like the walkoff ending to a game The Orioles rangers game last night where they challenged the last picture there was a ball and then it became a strike game over and that's how it.

00:29:16
Speaker 7: ENDED i don't know what to feel about.

00:29:18
Speaker 2: That two, outs top of the ninth a one to two fastball and landed near the upper outside corner of the strike. Zone The rangers Hitter Evan carter didn't, swing allowed it to be called a. Ball baltimore had not yet lost using the automated ball strike, challenge and so they had gone two for. Two therefore they still could use, it and they. Did and now that was the first is it automated walk off for FIRST abs walk off view off review?

00:29:53
Speaker 3: Off? Yes.

00:29:54
Speaker 5: Boy if you go TO mlb dot, com they just started a thing yesterday where you could see every team ranking in CHALLENGES abs. Challenges you could see hitters are they four for four on the season on? Challenges and you could see every single homeplate umpire IN Mlb baseball redundant IN mlb of how many challenges against? Them so name by name, umpires names we didn't know, before.

00:30:17
Speaker 2: But this is WHAT i worry about. Now i'm just going to bring the human element into. This if you're a hitter and you question a, call that umpire is going to be pissed at, you maybe not, outwardly maybe, covertly and you're going to be, like.

00:30:36
Speaker 3: Hey, okay you're gonna embarrass.

00:30:38
Speaker 2: Me even though the hitter is up there for, survival the umpire is thinking you got the call, right then you're going to get these. Umpires are you going to hold a grudge because that guy is trying to embarrass me or going to embarrass?

00:30:52
Speaker 6: Me, Yes, Todd and this is an eight to three game In april between The oriels And.

00:30:58
Speaker 7: Ranges, again we've mentioned this.

00:30:59
Speaker 6: Before what happens with this is a deciding playoff game Or World series, game and a team's throwing their glove up when they're about to celebrate advancing winning the whole.

00:31:06
Speaker 7: Thing wait, wait, no, no it was a ball after. All oh, no it was a, Strike and like it just it's going to ruin some special. MOMENTS i really believe. THAT i Hope i'm.

00:31:12
Speaker 3: Wrong, okay thank You. Toed Yes Paul.

00:31:14
Speaker 5: Patriots Falcon Super bowl game winning touchdown and. Overtime pause your. Celebration, review now. Celebrate yeah it's happened.

00:31:22
Speaker 3: Before, yeah.

00:31:23
Speaker 12: Yes.

00:31:24
Speaker 10: Yeah the other problem, too that's like really happening with this is because of social media and the way THE tv game has advanced in. BASEBALL i saw a post on social. Media i'm gonna get these numbers, wrong but you'll get the point where it was, like all, right everybody is focusing on these six of eight calls that were overturned or, whatever but there was actually something like eight hundred and eighty wrong calls in that one, week the opening week of. Baseball, say there is eight hundred and eighty pitches that were called wrong and they only got about like one hundred and twenty of them, overturned which is which is a crazy number to look. At and that's the start of the baseball. Season this is all we're going to be able to watch that the entire year heading to the. Postseason Like todd was just, saying where they, like, man they've gotten four hundred and fifty thousand calls wrong this. Year that's a crazy number to look. At and this is something the commissioner is going to have to. Address why not just make it all automated balls and. Strikes that, way we get the call right and nobody gets. Embarrassed take a, break last call for phone. Calls what we, learn what's in store tomorrow after?

00:32:30
