Speaker 5: Yeah, if I'm not too twenty two a. So I love people from Pikeville. So nice too. Uh nice to be here with you and ready for you know, normally we'd have a game tonight or last night, but uh, midweek off and here we are.

00:01:32
Speaker 6: It was weird even last night. There are only two SEC basketball games last night and this is a slow week. It seems like for everybody.

00:01:37
Speaker 5: A lot of teams are I think this is the last bye week for some team. So a lot of teams off and uh, you know, give you a chance to reset here, Drew.

00:01:45
Speaker 4: It is odd.

00:01:45
Speaker 7: I mean, one, we're coming back from San Francisco. I've already adjusted that. But now it's like, wells, where's my Kentucky basketball?

00:01:51
Speaker 4: Yeah? My body clock is just expecting a game today. But that's all right. We're glad to be here.

00:01:55
Speaker 5: And tonight is the ks BAR UH Pickham sponsored by cornbredhimp.

00:01:59
Speaker 4: So here's what's gonna happen tonight. I've picked. Uh. Basically, you can look at your little score.

00:02:05
Speaker 5: Sheet and every game at seven or seven thirty tonight in college basketball, you're picking. So like Ryan, you you have the time to research. There's only like eleven Okay, six of them are on TV. We'll be playing to me. Nice, you have to be here, uh and get you so I said six thirty, but you gotta get your picks in before.

00:02:25
Speaker 4: The game's tip off, Okay, and we'll do something. Uh.

00:02:29
Speaker 5: It'll be a whole thing through the it'll go through about nine, nine thirty and at the end, UH money will be given.

00:02:36
Speaker 8: Uh.

00:02:36
Speaker 4: I think one thousand.

00:02:37
Speaker 5: Dollars for first place, uh and three hundred per second and two hundred for third, and UH it'll be it'll be excellent. And I don't know, See we've never done this, so I don't have any people are gonna be here. You know, it might be it might be a lot of people, might be just a few people in which what you're gonna win.

00:02:53
Speaker 6: So, uh, we'll see what happens. I am actually so excited about this. I'm coming tonight and I'm bringing younger girl with me. We're kind of we're both coming. She can play, I can't.

00:03:02
Speaker 4: You can play, but you can't win.

00:03:04
Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm gonna play and try to show my you know, because I know ball, so i'll probably you know, I might win the ball.

00:03:10
Speaker 4: What ball? Do you know? You're welcome you guys sit up here. Yeah, you know ball?

00:03:14
Speaker 6: Yeah, I know ball. So I may win the contest, but I won't take the money.

00:03:17
Speaker 5: All right, we're good. Well, we'll put you up against the masses. So you have to So I looked at the games. There's like ten or eleven. Most of them are major teams. Yeah, right, so most of the games are major teams, and you'll be picking not only who wins in the spread, but you'll also be picking like high scores. So you might need to take a second to kind of look at the we're picking high scores of the big games. I'm not gonna make you pick like Western Michigan's high score, but you know, so you may have to do that.

00:03:47
Speaker 6: So you're picking just moneyline, you pick it against the spread you.

00:03:49
Speaker 5: Find out tonight. Okay, you don't have to get all the rules right now. Supposed to be a surprise just go look at the game and try to get a feel of the team.

00:04:00
Speaker 6: I got a great field because I know ball all right.

00:04:01
Speaker 4: Who's playing the night Duke?

00:04:04
Speaker 6: Duke played last night North Carolina.

00:04:06
Speaker 4: Okay, none of them got Florida Georgia.

00:04:08
Speaker 3: North Carolina lost to Minam North Carolina.

00:04:10
Speaker 7: Loast night Florida George is a big one Alabama, old miss our friends. You know, we we did the pregame show out west and it felt like everyone in Clemson was out there. Now they're home tonight. I hope everyone made it back for that.

00:04:20
Speaker 5: Yeah, just so you know, here are the games that will be on tonight. Florida, Georgia, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Yukon Butler, Colorado, Texas Tech. Okay, those are all the ones that we will be uh competing with. And then let's see the Michigan play tonight too, if we want to include them.

00:04:36
Speaker 4: They're pretty good.

00:04:37
Speaker 5: Iowa Maryland, well, we won't miss that. One starts at six, So the game's starting at seven beginning Florida, Georgia, Virginia Tech, Clemson, American Lehi uh, California, Syracuse Uh. And then there are many others. I'm not gonna read all these but Alabama, old miss is one of the nice.

00:04:53
Speaker 6: So you excited. I tell you, I'm so excited. I'm bringing Dragon. You'll get girl with me tonight. We're gonna have a party.

00:04:58
Speaker 4: Dragon.

00:04:59
Speaker 5: When you ask her, she would like to come get in the car, drive with you.

00:05:03
Speaker 4: We are We don't drag people to things. We we just bring them.

00:05:07
Speaker 7: Uh, Florida looks like a juggernaut right now, but we need to root for Georgia because Georgia Wednesday night, Saturday will be for first place.

00:05:14
Speaker 4: For well, Saturday's first place anyway, because if we beat him, we could tie him.

00:05:17
Speaker 5: If we beat him, we would be tied with him in Arkansas, and we have the tiebreaker on both of them, right, so like, uh we we we Saturday have a chance to do something historic or I don't know if it's his stork, but it's it would be it would be good, which would be the shocking. It would be shocking, I think when you start zero to two. Yeah, to then lead the conference after eleven games would be amazing.

00:05:40
Speaker 4: When one of the two was Missouri at home, Yeah exactly.

00:05:43
Speaker 6: They put that graphic up last night during the Vanderbilt game, and there's Kentucky sitting in second place behind Florida, Like, oh my goodness, how did this happen?

00:05:49
Speaker 5: Yeah, all right, so let's talk about So yesterday I filmed.

00:05:55
Speaker 4: With a film because that sounds so old when.

00:05:58
Speaker 6: I in the seventies, Yesterday I filmed.

00:06:02
Speaker 5: Yesterday I recorded a podcast with a field of sixty eight that's Jeff Goodman and Rob Doster, which they put up this morning. And I don't want you to stop the show to listen to it, but when the show's over, it's a very good interview.

00:06:16
Speaker 4: I tweeted out.

00:06:17
Speaker 5: I think it's on YouTube. We talked for like thirty minutes. And for people who say, Matt, why don't you all do more like serious ball talk? This is serious ball talk. So if you like thirty minutes of serious UK basketball talk, that's what it is. And the first fifteen or twenty minutes is them interviewing me, but then the last ten or fifteen minutes is almost me interviewing them. They're asking me about how the fans are, how the team is, et cetera. And then at the end I talked to them about some of the stuff with recruiting. So I want to go on both things. And get your ass cake on it. The first thing is during my part, they're asking me questions, and one of the things that is what is success for UK this year? All right, what is success for UK this year? And I'll summarize my answer, and I want to see if you all disagree. My answer was, basically, if you look at the big picture of what we thought at the beginning of the season, chances are hard, chances are low. It's gonna be successful because we were like we could win the title. I said, But then if you consider where we are now today, I would say if two of these three things happen, I would consider it success. Coming the top three in the SEC, which I think would be really impressive with what our schedule is left, make a run to the championship game of the SEC tournament considering we've only been to Saturday once since twenty nineteen, which is crazy, or.

00:07:46
Speaker 4: Second weekend of the NCAA.

00:07:48
Speaker 5: And I said, if you got two of those three, you'd have to call it successful, and even if you got one, it would be okay.

00:07:57
Speaker 4: If you get zero. That's how I was what would you would you agree or disagree with?

00:08:04
Speaker 1: That?

00:08:05
Speaker 4: Here?

00:08:05
Speaker 6: I'm one of the same wavelength. I want to double buy in the SEC tournament. That would mean top four, and I want to at least get to the weekend. I mean, you know, you said championship game. I think I'd be happy just to get to Saturday, just to finally get to the weekend of the SEC tournament. But I'm thinking, in my mind, maybe I'm still holding on to our dreams of their preseason. I think we gotta get to Sweet sixteen now, just second.

00:08:24
Speaker 4: Second weekend means the Sweet sixteen.

00:08:25
Speaker 6: Well, I thought you mean like the Elite eight.

00:08:27
Speaker 4: Well that's not second weekend. Is the Sweet sixteen's played in the second Yeah?

00:08:31
Speaker 6: To me that I I'd be very happy with that.

00:08:34
Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, that's the second weekend, all right? What about you?

00:08:38
Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm so conflicted because I hate lowering my expectations from the beginning, but I feel like you have to acknowledge the injuries. I mean a lot of stuff I think is on the team is still in my mind not constructed the best, and I still don't know how good they really are. I lower my bar just a little bit for the injuries. I think you got to get second week in anything first weekend, we really do.

00:09:01
Speaker 4: Something any thing.

00:09:02
Speaker 5: First weekend, Let's say we came in second, because I could see this scenario, we coming second in the SEC, we have the championship game.

00:09:11
Speaker 4: But we're still at that point probably a five seed in the tournament. Well, don't be a five that's my thing. Don't be a five seed. Then, like, we can't just keep saying five seed. It's good.

00:09:19
Speaker 7: I mean, but if we do, if we do year after year, if will this happen, will that happen, then you just you're just not what you once were. At some point we have to say first weekend sucks. I don't care what happened, and that should be Kentucky standard.

00:09:31
Speaker 4: All right, chanton, what about you?

00:09:33
Speaker 3: So yeah, for me, it all depends on what happens in March.

00:09:36
Speaker 4: So for you, radio season doesn't matter.

00:09:39
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, well, I mean, if you get to the tournament, you're gonna have a decent regular season. So I would say you need to make it to the sweet sixteen. At least, it'd be nice to make it to the championship game of the SEC tournament. But even if you don't, as long as you get to the sweet sixteen, you match what happened last year.

00:09:53
Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's the success.

00:09:54
Speaker 5: Well, right, I would just note that to get to the Sweet sixteen probably will require Kentucky to pull it up ste I mean I and that upset could be being a six to be to three, being a five to be to four. It also could be an eight to be to one, yeah, or a seven to be to two.

00:10:12
Speaker 4: I mean, we still potentially have a lot of losses on this schedule, so I I.

00:10:17
Speaker 5: Do think to get to a Sweet sixteen probably requires an upset. So that was conversation one, and uh, let me know what you think seven seven two seven to seven four five two five For a call like, what do you think consider success?

00:10:27
Speaker 4: I said two of those three things.

00:10:30
Speaker 5: The next thing we talk about, And I would say for you who for you regular listeners of this show, you kind of know my opinion on things. I think you'll really be interested in the last ten or fifteen minutes because it kind of flips.

00:10:43
Speaker 4: You know. I have a hard time not being in control.

00:10:46
Speaker 6: No, now, don't be so hard on yourself. I mean, I don't beat yourself up. I know, come on, it's okay.

00:10:52
Speaker 5: I mean, I know you'll probably don't want to say it, and it's not a big issue, but it might be a little issue, right, yeah, maybe a little the most so.

00:11:05
Speaker 6: I most I have ever met in my life.

00:11:08
Speaker 4: So we don't need to like, I don't need to just keep going.

00:11:13
Speaker 5: Okay, So I kind of flip it in the second half, and I almost start interviewing them.

00:11:18
Speaker 6: They probably like that.

00:11:19
Speaker 4: I think they did, actually, And I said, all right, I got a question for you.

00:11:22
Speaker 5: I asked him if they had read that KSR article a month ago about the recruiting, and they said they did, And I said, was it correct?

00:11:31
Speaker 4: Essentially, what do you think about Kentucky's recruiting?

00:11:36
Speaker 5: And they almost went even farther than that article. They said, Kentucky is way behind in how to.

00:11:48
Speaker 4: Recruit in today's college basketball.

00:11:51
Speaker 5: They said, not only does Kentucky need a GM, they need a GM that's way different than what they have right now. He said, Mark Pope assembled a group of coaches that are used to recruiting pre in Ile. They were great recruiters pre in Ale. And he said now that Jeff Goodman was like, now, being a recruiter in the NIL is you gotta be connected to the world of agents. He was like, Mark Pope's staff is connected to the world of AAU, which is what you used to do, but now you've got to know agents because they're negotiating the deals. And he compared it to Duke, where the woman that's in charge at Duke, she used to work for Nike and she knows all these agents, they're her friends. She throws dinners for these agents, she takes them out because that's what she used to do at Nike, and now she runs Duke. He was like, that's what you gotta do. Kentucky not only has no GM at all when all these other schools have them, they don't have anyone that's even in that world. And so a lot of the times when they're having conversations with these agents, they're just meeting them or barely know them, whereas the Duke people have been going out to dinner with them for ten years. And they were like, Kentucky has to change that and they and Rob Dostro was like, they gotta do it quick, because this starts in April. This idea we might hire a GM. They're like, if they're gona hire a gym, they gotta do it like now, because they got to start getting players first of April.

00:13:26
Speaker 4: I found that fascinating. What do you think about it?

00:13:30
Speaker 6: Kind of surprises me to hear that. You think, Mark Pope, they're so you know, modernized basketball and proactive about things that I'm almost surprised they're.

00:13:38
Speaker 5: Not modernized in coaching, but maybe not in this new thing that they do.

00:13:45
Speaker 4: But he was. They were adamant.

00:13:46
Speaker 5: They were like, Kentucky needs to hire a GM, and they need to do it right now, Like they cannot wait because the moment the season's over, this will start and if they don't have one, they're gonna they're gonna be screwed.

00:13:59
Speaker 6: There many top players left even out there.

00:14:02
Speaker 5: They said that most programs drew their GM doesn't even go to practice. All they do is spend their time watching other teams in the country to get ready for the portal season.

00:14:13
Speaker 7: Yeah, we all have been on the camp if we needed those a long time. That just hearing that from two national guys furthers that opinion. And you know, we heard from agents in the in the summer, and then that article that the guys did of Pope being a little too emotional, and I think that's because he loves Kentucky so much and you know, we want this to exist where you say, come play for Kentucky. But honestly, that doesn't at the negotiating table, that doesn't carry much weight. And I worry with Pope he's putting too much on that when these agents are like what is the dollar amount? And then that's that's what's deciding at the end of the day.

00:14:45
Speaker 5: And to the extent, like when Vince Merrill was really good at recruiting here for football, a lot of it was his relationships with high school coaches, et cetera. They're like, now those relationships have to be agents, and you need to go I think Goodman said Pope needs to go into that world and bring in somebody that he probably doesn't even know, but did he better learn? And again they kept saying, Duke does it the best, Like Duke went and hired the person at Nike who was in charge of dealing with agents.

00:15:15
Speaker 4: And this should smart.

00:15:16
Speaker 6: That is very smart, right.

00:15:17
Speaker 7: This shouldn't be this hard. With the NBA connect, I mean, we have the rating MVP in the NBA. I mean, Devin Booker is a superstar. They shouldn't be using that more than do I know, we take pictures of them and there's the connection.

00:15:28
Speaker 4: They come back.

00:15:29
Speaker 7: But there has to be a way to help that with recruiting and Nike and all the stuff that comes with it when you have some of the stars at the next level.

00:15:35
Speaker 5: So aff nine two eight twenty two eighty seven. I would encourage people to listen to that to hear their opinion, because when that article came out, you know a lot of people are.

00:15:43
Speaker 4: Like, uh, I don't know what I think of that.

00:15:46
Speaker 5: These are people with no connection to Kentucky, essentially making the same point. We will take a break and be right back. We are here at kspar and Grill Wingsday.

00:15:53
Speaker 4: This is Kentucky Sports Radio.

00:15:58
Speaker 5: Welcome back in his Kentucky Sports Radio. You know Ain found nine two eight twenty two eighty seven. Text machine is seven seven two four five two five four. Seems like most people kind of agree with us. Somewhat is success. Uh, probably somewhere in between me and Drew. There are people who are saying, got to go sick at weekend.

00:16:16
Speaker 4: Uh. I haven't seen anybody say you got to go to the final four. That's good.

00:16:19
Speaker 5: So that does mean that people have understood that maybe we've taken One person, says Matt, I do worry that both of those conversations you had suggest Kentucky lowering its standards both in success and how.

00:16:32
Speaker 4: We do things in the off season.

00:16:34
Speaker 5: Well, maybe you know we we used to say Cal needed to change, and we've talked all about that style playing, et cetera. Well, I do think Pope needs to maybe change. And just understand, I think Pope's a control freak. Cal was definitely a control free I think Pope's of control freak in a little bit of a different way in the sense of like he wants to surround himself with his people and it may just be time you have to go outside the box. I mean, those guys know that world better than me, Drew, and so that's why I wanted to ask those questions. And uh, it further confirmed kind of what the KSR article said, what we said. The only thing we didn't I didn't really ask about the JMI stuff. I don't even know to what extent they know about that, but they were all adamant about the GM thing.

00:17:23
Speaker 7: Completely agree. And you know, we don't like to say this out loud, but we're in two years, we'll have one title in thirty years, and we're creeping up on one. Final four in fifteen years. I mean, that's not good for what we say is the gold standard. So there needs to be some urgency and finding success again or that Indiana conversation gets pretty real.

00:17:42
Speaker 4: By that one final four. So right now we still got a while before the one to fifteen years. It's been ten though. Yeah, our last Final four was twenty fifteen, which it.

00:17:50
Speaker 5: Doesn't feel like that long ago. But that's a long time ago.

00:17:54
Speaker 4: But if every year we.

00:17:55
Speaker 7: Go well but well, but well but well, but we're Kentucky at that point. No, you're not a gold standard. You're just well button your Tennessee football on yourself every year.

00:18:03
Speaker 4: You don't want to just keep the next year is the year, you know, So I don't want to just.

00:18:05
Speaker 7: At some point we have to be honest to what's happening, and not a lot has happened lately.

00:18:09
Speaker 5: One person says, Matt, why do you sound drunk in that video on field? To say, I don't know. I gotta figure that out. There's something about when I film these interviews. I think it's mostly at my Lexington house, but I don't know why both on my both on my phone and on that thing, it makes me sound like it makes me sound like when Shannon slows my ad reads down to finish the sixty seconds.

00:18:35
Speaker 4: And I don't know where it gives. I don't know what it is. I don't know did they can Internet be like a millisecond.

00:18:41
Speaker 6: Slow, that's got to be it. Yeah, If it's affecting everything you do in that place, it's got to be the wireless connection.

00:18:47
Speaker 4: You know.

00:18:47
Speaker 5: When I used to deal those Twitter spaces, it sounded like I had a list, Yeah, and this one it's it's not bad.

00:18:54
Speaker 4: It's just like I'm a quarter second slow.

00:18:57
Speaker 7: It's gotta be some kind of lag on the stream between you.

00:19:01
Speaker 5: But it doesn't happen when I do it in Louisville, and it doesn't usually happen even when I do it like in my car.

00:19:07
Speaker 4: But for some reason, in your house, in my house in Lexington, you're paying your WiFi bill. You got good WiFi, you go cheap on that pay seventy five percent of it. So I feel like that you don't have like to knockoff. I think that should work all right?

00:19:18
Speaker 5: Before I want to go the phones A five nine two eight twenty two eighty seven. Yes, conspiracy theories were a big thing we do have to talk for just a second about this L Paso thing for a second, Shannon, I feel like you'd like that. Did you see what happened?

00:19:30
Speaker 3: I know this story.

00:19:32
Speaker 5: So late last night at eleven o'clock, they closed the El Paso Airport in all airspace around L Passo and they set for ten days, no explanation, first time in American history besides nine to eleven where they close for multiple days in airspace. And so everybody's like, what's going on that's close to the border. So some people thought, wait a minute, are we invade Mexico?

00:20:01
Speaker 4: This morning?

00:20:02
Speaker 5: When I woke up, like everyone was guessing nuclear test all this stuff. And then at eight forty five this morning they opened it back up and they just say we just were opened in to Becca, but no explanation for a while.

00:20:18
Speaker 4: Last night it was closed for ten days. Now. They did put out a statement right before the.

00:20:23
Speaker 5: Show that said it was just miscommunication between the Department of Defense and the FAA. That feels like a pretty big miscommunication. We're gonna shut down an entire airspace for ten days. Oh wait a minute, sorry, wrong number, whoops.

00:20:42
Speaker 4: Whoops.

00:20:44
Speaker 5: So my thought is they were going to do something and then overnight everybody's like, wait a.

00:20:49
Speaker 4: Minute, what are you doing? And then maybe they changed their mind. What do you think?

00:20:54
Speaker 6: So there was a report this morning said that there was drones.

00:20:57
Speaker 4: They were boy to me it was drone. It keeps say drones.

00:21:00
Speaker 6: What does that mean that some sort of drones in on the military base or something was so they.

00:21:06
Speaker 4: Were gonna just fly? But what what do you mean drunk?

00:21:08
Speaker 6: I don't know what are they doing? What were to heard a report this morning that it was car drones. I'm not sure. I think President Trump said it was Mexican cartelrone. Mexican cartel Trump said this morning or something.

00:21:19
Speaker 4: Where did he say that? Do you hear this on the any of this? First of all, did any is any of this real news?

00:21:24
Speaker 6: It was on the news report during on the radio this morning.

00:21:27
Speaker 4: They said Trump said Mexican cartail drone.

00:21:30
Speaker 7: One of the here I found it from the AP Do we trust the app Okay? Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, that's a dude from the real world, said that the FAA in the Defense Department and here's we got quotation marks acted swiftly to address a cartel drone incursion. The threat has been neutralized and there's no danger cartel drones. I don't believe that.

00:21:54
Speaker 4: For one A. I don't believe that cartel drones.

00:21:56
Speaker 5: Why would you need to shut it for ten days? Like if it was a cartel drone, why would you just be like, all right, we gotta stop it for a minute, we'll get the drone, all right now open?

00:22:05
Speaker 4: Why would you say we're gonna be closed for ten days.

00:22:07
Speaker 5: I'm not believing cartild I mean, there may have been a cartel drone, I'm not saying, but like, I don't the ten days is the part I don't understand, Like ten days is a long time.

00:22:19
Speaker 4: Were the airlines shut down for ten days after nine to eleven? I don't think it was that long.

00:22:22
Speaker 6: It was that long.

00:22:24
Speaker 5: Ten days would have been the I think the longest shut down in American history.

00:22:28
Speaker 6: And ended up being what ten hours or something.

00:22:31
Speaker 4: Yeah, so I I don't know that.

00:22:35
Speaker 5: I could believe it was drones, but I can't believe the ten days.

00:22:40
Speaker 4: Something is a muck.

00:22:43
Speaker 5: Or it was a muck they figured out maybe they stopped the muck, but something was happening.

00:22:48
Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, we'll take your calls right for this, Ksorry TJ.

00:22:52
Speaker 2: Smith Personal TJ Now More of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage is not Jones.

00:23:01
Speaker 4: Did that air?

00:23:02
Speaker 6: Did that get only?

00:23:03
Speaker 4: They got on? Yeah? Oh did it? Yeah? With a Mexican DRONEH eighty seven.

00:23:14
Speaker 5: Okay, So somebody writes, Matt, maybe it was they said ten hours, but the miscommunication was they thought they said ten days.

00:23:24
Speaker 4: It was about ten hours.

00:23:25
Speaker 6: It was about ten hours. It seems a pretty blatant mistake.

00:23:30
Speaker 4: I would still want more. Yeah, that actually makes me more concerned. We don't know the difference.

00:23:37
Speaker 5: Ten hours, okay, days, got it? I don't believe it was just a drug. If it's just a drone, why do you say ten days? I mean they initiated the biggest air because because nine eleven was parently eight days. Okay, so they initiated the biggest air shut down in American history.

00:23:58
Speaker 4: I can't imagine that's just because of a drone.

00:24:01
Speaker 6: Your reeks, is something bigger they're trying to cover up.

00:24:03
Speaker 5: Right, or miscommunication of ten hours ten days? That actually that's actually the second most possible.

00:24:10
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a big mis miscommunication.

00:24:13
Speaker 5: That is a big miscommunication. All right, one more thing, and then I do want to go, We're gonna do conspiracy? What do we think about Savannah Guthrie's mother thing?

00:24:21
Speaker 6: I am so Shannon, I were just talking about during the break. I'm into it. I mean, like last night, especially, are you trying to solve it? I just like listening to all the updates, like there are here, there's a ninety four point five mix ninety four point.

00:24:33
Speaker 4: Five when you're getting your updates from the pop station.

00:24:35
Speaker 6: Yes, they have a true crime radio show every night.

00:24:39
Speaker 5: You're not getting it from the news, You're getting it from mixed ninety four point five in between the James Taylor and Neil Diamond song.

00:24:47
Speaker 6: Well, they have a true crime show every night. They don't play a little play music. They have this true crime show every night.

00:24:53
Speaker 3: So is stop the music to do that?

00:24:55
Speaker 5: They stop the music to do true crime? Yes, now, what would say, Shannon? Why do they do that? We have our answer right here because this man will listen to it.

00:25:03
Speaker 6: And last night, this news was breaking in real time as I'm in the car, like they got rested a suspect, They've released the video of a prowler. I mean, it was all happening and like I'm like I was watching singing it or something it's happening.

00:25:14
Speaker 4: No, you were listening to Mix ninety.

00:25:18
Speaker 6: Live on the air.

00:25:20
Speaker 4: He's a company man. I gotta give him that ridiculous. You get your news from Mixed ninety. It's a great radio show.

00:25:27
Speaker 6: You should listen to it. What's it called true crime show? What true?

00:25:39
Speaker 5: That is amazing? My fan's like, all right, how do I get the latest?

00:25:43
Speaker 6: And they were all over the.

00:25:44
Speaker 4: Wrap station was in commercial.

00:25:47
Speaker 6: Breaking news like live on the spot all we gotta take a commercial break, will be right back, come back and be something else happened Christmas music?

00:25:55
Speaker 4: Isn't that the mixed misstation? It is true crime Christmas. They do a lot of Mixed ninety four or five.

00:26:03
Speaker 6: With all of this information before their show is Mario Lopez has a show, so you can get Mario Opez about what.

00:26:10
Speaker 7: When you said we don't know much about Ryan, this is what I'm talking about. We learned so much when he starts talking.

00:26:16
Speaker 4: That's sure.

00:26:16
Speaker 5: We don't know about his brain because it operates in odd ways. Okay, So they they released the thing, the pictures of it, apparently because he disabled the camera. Yeah, but I guess ring or whoever what caver kind of camera they had they apparently and by the way, this was good in this instance, but something for people to think about. Even when the camera ain't on, they still got it, yep, because they went in the archives and even though the camera had been disabled and all that and turned off, they still had it. Just something for people to remember, Like you think this stuff is not there, it is. In this case, it was positive. They see the pictures of him. He's wearing like an old school matt like a mask from like a nineteen seventies movie, you know it was.

00:27:02
Speaker 4: It was the like sche mask.

00:27:05
Speaker 7: He seemed unprepared to because he just picked up a random bush to cover his ya, to cover the camera, very like he was a pro. I thought he'd have like better gear than that. He's like, let me use this random truck.

00:27:15
Speaker 2: Didn't seem to be well thought out. He didn't seem to be in a hurry, and.

00:27:18
Speaker 5: He did not could be a back to my thing of how have they not caught him? We have the entire government, federal and state. How have they not caught this person?

00:27:28
Speaker 4: But they have it.

00:27:29
Speaker 5: They did, however, go and detain a person who turned out to be.

00:27:32
Speaker 4: A FedEx driver.

00:27:34
Speaker 5: So they went to the guy and they detained him and they were like, we hear you have Nancy Guthrie and he's like, I just drive FedEx. I do not have anyone, and so they let him go. Very scary stuff.

00:27:47
Speaker 4: But she was clearly kidnapped.

00:27:50
Speaker 5: I mean, like, that's we we So I'm kind of surprised they can't because it's not like a master criminal.

00:27:56
Speaker 4: It's a guy in a ski mask using a bush to cover up the camera. You would I think they would have caught this guy.

00:28:01
Speaker 6: And she's a former UK student wrote for The Kentucky Colonel back in the day, A little connection with it. Elected in here.

00:28:06
Speaker 4: So you're in it, will you do me a favor?

00:28:09
Speaker 5: Yeah, listening to Mix ninety four point five tonight so that I can get the update.

00:28:13
Speaker 6: I will gladly update you to know. Well, I'm gonna be here at the party tonight, the big Shindig.

00:28:17
Speaker 5: All right, Well, should we mute the sound of the game to put on the crime? Shall have all the updates right there for us.

00:28:25
Speaker 4: Okay, we might do that to keep up. All right, who's fird shitting?

00:28:28
Speaker 3: Kevin?

00:28:28
Speaker 4: Kevin?

00:28:29
Speaker 9: Go ahead, Kevin, Yeah, A couple I think it was last week or something. You guys talked about your predictions of the top five player lucky who you think will return, and you guys left off Jasper Johnson. So I just wanted to get reasoning behind that. I think he could really make a huge step forward next year if he comes back.

00:28:48
Speaker 4: Well, I appreciate the call.

00:28:49
Speaker 5: Well, first of all, you have to take the initial answer to that is we don't know who's coming back or not. So this is really we were asked to guess. I saw criticism of us on line that we talked about it. You know, when you get asked, we're gonna talk about Jasper Johnson, I don't know what he's gonna do. I have no insight. I don't think it's unreasonable, though, not to put him on the top of the list of people who will return, because he doesn't play a lot. He was a top recruit, and you know, he's had family members publicly online, you know, being frustrated with his with the way he's been used. So I you know, I don't think the kid has said anything that I that I remember, but I could understand why many people, myself included would not say he's the most likely guy to return.

00:29:42
Speaker 6: You know, I think Jasper turned down more money to play at Kentucky this year. He wants to play here, he loves it here. He grew up a Kentucky fan. There's gonna be teams throw a lot of money at him, I think this offseason, and I don't think there.

00:29:53
Speaker 5: Well, if you're a school out there looking for a player, there are two different kinds of players people look for Drew. One is the major guy to take a step up right, you're Antonio Reeves, your Dalton connect.

00:30:05
Speaker 4: And the second thing is guy to high.

00:30:07
Speaker 5: Major program that for whatever reason, it's not just work, it's really not working out, and you think he'll do better here.

00:30:13
Speaker 7: And Jasper would seem to fit that to a tee. Yeah that, and I know he does love it here, But he was very close to not coming. To remember, our football recruiter had to step in and help a little bit too, to help get him over the hump from Alabama North Carolina, where.

00:30:28
Speaker 5: Vince Merrill was a big part of the final decision there. It's probably the last thing he did for Kentucky in some way. He was close to you and.

00:30:35
Speaker 7: C and Alabama, and now that he's gotten here, and again I don't I've had no conversations, but just watching, you know, Jasper's more of that creator type, needs the ball in his hands, maybe a little one on one, and it doesn't seem to be messing well with what Pope's trying to do. We could see it every little once in a while where he gets it going, but overall, I think if you were to get the Johnson's on truth here, I'm and ask if this year went the way they thought it would, that would that would be.

00:30:56
Speaker 4: A same point.

00:30:57
Speaker 5: You know, there's been a debate about whether jay and Lowe is a pope kind of point guard. If Jaylen Lowe's not, then I don't know if Jasper Johnson is either, because he's a simpt now I will say this, when he gets rolling, his threes are smooth, like he's got a smooth jumper.

00:31:12
Speaker 6: I think you know, his minutes have been limited too, because Aberdeen's been playing so well.

00:31:15
Speaker 4: You know, yeah, because we thought when Lowe got hurt, we'd see a lot of see.

00:31:18
Speaker 6: A lot of Jasbury. And I willcome to Jasper's credit when he does get his number called, like he dove on the floor twice the other day against Tennessee, like he's busting his ass when he gets in there, had the spark against Tennessee down in Knoxville. He's doing his job, but Aberdeen's playing so well it's hard to take him off.

00:31:30
Speaker 4: There's still gonna be a game they're gonna need him.

00:31:32
Speaker 5: Yeah, the back court is so thin, you know you're gonna get a guy in foul trouble or something he's gonna need. There's gonna be a game where they're gonna need him this year. Who's next? Don don go ahead, don.

00:31:45
Speaker 3: Yeah.

00:31:46
Speaker 8: The Miamia of Ohio if there's a possibility lose in the tournament, I'm not real sure. I uh, I don't like some of the teams that they're playing. Indiana East at Kochomo basically there's a small school of Southwest Indiana used to pad their stats on that team. I'm with you.

00:32:07
Speaker 5: I'm with you, I mean I It depends on how you look at it. Right, Should Miami of Ohio make the tournament if they lose, well, on the one hand, it feels wrong to go undefeated and not put them in. On the other hand, yeah, if you take Old miss and you give them Miami of Ohio schedule, they probably go undefeat.

00:32:29
Speaker 4: Probably, So why do you say, huh who on that schedules beating No, No.

00:32:38
Speaker 8: They probably did it very easily, much easier than miamimal.

00:32:42
Speaker 4: We agreed that. Yeah, yeah, I appreciate the call. I don't so.

00:32:46
Speaker 5: I mean, maybe every team in the SEC goes undefeated with Miami of ouse schedule. So I'm all for these small teams getting into the tournament with their automatic bits, but without largees, I think you got to take the best teams, right, Yeah, we keep saying they undfeated.

00:33:03
Speaker 7: If they don't win their Conferce certament, you're not undefeated, and whoever you lost to that would be a bad loss. And their strength of schedules, like ranked three hundred and thirtieth, I don't think you can just put them in if they go, you know, which, win the regular season and losing the conference team.

00:33:15
Speaker 5: Do you feel differently if they played like Ohio State in the non conference and beat.

00:33:18
Speaker 7: Them, if they had one win, if someone ranked in the top seventy five, I think you do, But they don't.

00:33:24
Speaker 4: None of these teams they're playing or ranked. That's kind of how I feel.

00:33:26
Speaker 5: If they had gone and played one good team in the non conference and beat them just one, then I would say let them in.

00:33:37
Speaker 4: But if you're gonna play none, then I don't think. I don't know.

00:33:41
Speaker 6: You know, going into the season, they had to know they had a pretty good team. Why wouldn't they want to schedule a tougher some tougher games.

00:33:47
Speaker 5: And I will say, with all that said, one of their people in their athletic department listens to this show, heard our conversation and has invited me to one of their games.

00:33:54
Speaker 4: So that would be fun. If I go to one of their games, I will flip my opinion. Yeah, sure, because it will be fun.

00:34:00
Speaker 3: So you can watch them beat up on Indiana. Kocomo. Is that why you want to go?

00:34:03
Speaker 4: Well, no, I just I think it would be cool. Like I like going to it. I mean we went to cal Berkeley's campus. I love it. I like going to random places and doing random things.

00:34:12
Speaker 6: You know, we go see play Ohio University played Youngstown.

00:34:16
Speaker 4: Say, that's exactly right. They have one win in the top one and forty. Yeah, that's not good.

00:34:21
Speaker 5: If you haven't major Valentine's Day reservation, you probably won't get one. But it's not too late to plan a special dinner with locally grown dry age beef from no Cha Linda Farms. 00:35:12
Speaker 4: Text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four one person rights.

00:35:17
Speaker 5: Matt, are you concerned about playing time for pope uh players because of how many guys he plays. I was a little concerned about that about recruiting, but like since we've had the injuries, he's ended up playing these.

00:35:32
Speaker 4: Guys a ton of minutes.

00:35:33
Speaker 5: I think it's just a matter of kind of getting him focused Drew to play in the right guys or unfortunately injuries.

00:35:39
Speaker 7: Yeah, I still think he needs to show that a high school kid bring one in and be like, look, I played him thirty minutes a game. I think that is a concern for a Stokes or a star. You know, we don't like to hear that these guys won all the minutes and all the shots, but that's the world we live in now, and I think Kentucky needs to go out and you gotta have one of those dudes. Look around college basketball, the teams that are good have a superstar, and I think that's what Kentucky. He's like, always great, but he's not the category of a lot of the guys that have these top five, top ten teams right now.

00:36:06
Speaker 5: We also have two twins here who it's their birthday yeah and Yell who it's nice to see your happy birthday. Thank you good two of our biggest fans been coming. We have two sets of twins that are always loyal fans, So nice to see you on happy birthday today on Wings that your birthday and Wingsday close to Valentine's Day as well.

00:36:28
Speaker 6: It's very exciting twenty nine years old. I think they said today.

00:36:31
Speaker 4: We'll say they're listen twenty nine listen on Facebook. You can be whatever you.

00:36:38
Speaker 6: Spoken like. You have a little knowledge of that.

00:36:41
Speaker 5: I at this point in my life would like to change it, and they will not let me. I've had multiple conversations. They're just like no, because I'm tired of explaining it, but they will not let me change it.

00:36:53
Speaker 4: So you know, all right, it is what it is.

00:36:57
Speaker 5: I got a big shout out out to.

00:37:00
Speaker 4: The Pope, now Mark the Pope, Catholic pope. Don't know him, but I'm giving him a big shoutow.

00:37:08
Speaker 5: Did you see what he did next year to open the season, Villanova, his favorite college basketball team, that's he's a Villanova fan, is playing.

00:37:20
Speaker 4: Notre Dame in Rome. Wow? Really he scheduled the game.

00:37:27
Speaker 5: He said, like, I'm the Catholic big dude, I'd make stuff happen. So he gets Notre Dame, the Catholic school. Yeah, and in his alma mater and says, you're coming to me. I can't go to you. You're coming to me. In a world where I were to become pope. Granted, long shot.

00:37:49
Speaker 4: Very unlikely that's gonna happen.

00:37:51
Speaker 5: But if I were to come, Pope, you're telling me, I'm not bringing Kentucky to play a home game.

00:37:57
Speaker 4: Like you guys.

00:37:58
Speaker 5: I can't get all the way to Lexington all the secure. It's hard to get that car in an airplane. Like I'm I'm bringing.

00:38:04
Speaker 4: You to me. I gotta give a big shout out to the Pope.

00:38:07
Speaker 5: If the Chicago Bears end up playing in Rome, then that's gonna be even more impressive.

00:38:12
Speaker 4: I love it.

00:38:13
Speaker 7: That's a college basketball fan right there. I love it too. And you know, he got his Catholic team here. But I think next year he has to challenge Pope. I think Kentucky Pope. Yeah, he's like, listen, this world's only big enough for one of us.

00:38:26
Speaker 4: Love it.

00:38:27
Speaker 7: We go to the Vatican. If Mark Pope wins, he becomes Pope. If Leo's team wins, he gets Kentucky basketball.

00:38:36
Speaker 4: One Pope, dude, after that game, you listen, you're a marketing genius. Pope v Pope. Lay it all on the line.

00:38:43
Speaker 7: You can have the whole church, but I get Kentucky basketball and I get to pick my team.

00:38:48
Speaker 5: This will be the first pope to ever go to a college basketball game.

00:38:51
Speaker 4: I'm sure he's gonna go. He's gonna bet on it.

00:38:54
Speaker 7: He will be sponsored by DraftKings, and he will have a parlam he has to go.

00:38:58
Speaker 5: I mean, you can't bring your favorite college team along with the team of the Catholic church and not go Ryan, right.

00:39:05
Speaker 6: You know, Popleo wasn't a fancy's a Cubs fan. But I love this. This is awesome and I think this is the first of many times he'll do something like this. You think they'll do a football game. He like have a Notre Dame football He's a Villanova fan. He's not a Notre Dame fan. He went to Villanova, so he is as he's. I mean, I think the Notre Dame is just for all the Catholics. Villanova's for him.

00:39:27
Speaker 4: I love it, right.

00:39:28
Speaker 7: I think it's a question of does he go. It's does he go as the pope or is he like foam finger face paint hoodie.

00:39:34
Speaker 4: Oh like, what kind of fan is he?

00:39:36
Speaker 7: Does he go in all elegant with security or is he front row crushing popcorn and booing.

00:39:40
Speaker 5: The rest The pope allowed to go out in public without all the stuff.

00:39:44
Speaker 4: Can he just wear like a hoodie and shorts.

00:39:47
Speaker 5: That's what I'm wondering, because he's not quite as popy if he doesn't do that, But having this game already is not very popy.

00:39:53
Speaker 7: So I'm just wondering how far he goes. Maybe he slams a couple. Arina Beers.

00:39:57
Speaker 5: I love the idea of him painting his face. I actually think I would like it more if he was in the pope gear with his pay uh face painted and a number one foam finger.

00:40:07
Speaker 4: Maybe he takes a sign.

00:40:09
Speaker 6: Did you sit him on court side and he wouldn't?

00:40:11
Speaker 5: I don't think they put him in the rafters, but I think if he comes, you give him a court side see wow.

00:40:17
Speaker 7: I think you let him do the jumpall let him toss it. Not he jumps, he tosses it for the I guess at Villanova.

00:40:23
Speaker 4: You'd be the V. He could be the V. Yeah. I love it. That's us to put this event together.

00:40:29
Speaker 5: That's my The pope just raised a notch. If he's gonna bring the teams to him, I love that. You're notre Dame fan. I would think if you're a villanova, a villanova or a Notre Dame fan because Villanova's a Catholic school too. Yes, so like if you're a Catholic Villanova, you gotta go, gotta go right like you're you're I mean, this would be the coolest thing.

00:40:51
Speaker 4: That you got a chance to meet the pope.

00:40:53
Speaker 6: Game of a lifetime.

00:40:54
Speaker 4: Yes, that that would be what an awesome event? Right? Who's next ship is?

00:40:58
Speaker 3: John?

00:40:58
Speaker 4: John? Go ahead? John? Hey?

00:41:03
Speaker 10: Hey, all doing guys?

00:41:04
Speaker 4: Good?

00:41:04
Speaker 10: So I got two quick questions for you. One, if the tournament started today, how far do you think we would go based on our I guess you could say inconsistencies? Second question, how what kind of advice would you all? And I guess especially Mario, what kind of advice would you give a guy who's just starting that on you?

00:41:28
Speaker 4: Two?

00:41:30
Speaker 5: Well, the second question is probably a little longer, so I'll see if I can remember that to do it in the break.

00:41:36
Speaker 4: First question, appreciate the call.

00:41:39
