<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, welcome to Game Mess Mornings presented by Deeku Deals.
<v Speaker 1>We'll talk about that more later, but I'm excited about
<v Speaker 1>it with me. Jeff Grubb, your host from giant bomb
<v Speaker 1>dot com, Thank you for tuning in. In this episode,
<v Speaker 1>we're going to be talking about Rockstar still being Rockstar
<v Speaker 1>and get this, consoles and computers might get more expensive.
<v Speaker 1>It's gonna be a good one because we have Lex
<v Speaker 1>Luddy on the show. LEXI, how are you doing.
<v Speaker 2>I'm not doing too bad, but more importantly, how are
<v Speaker 2>y y'all doing? You've had a real couple of weeks.
<v Speaker 1>How The Bombathon film pretty good? It was a lot
<v Speaker 1>of fun. Definitely was missing doing Game Mess Mornings, so
<v Speaker 1>glad to be back in the swing of things with
<v Speaker 1>the show. That Bombaton was very fun to do. It
<v Speaker 1>was long and definitely a worris, but it was all
<v Speaker 1>worth it. And then, yeah, I think that right right now,
<v Speaker 1>I'm like, I just kind of want to keep bad.
<v Speaker 1>I would do another Bomathon right now, right this second.
<v Speaker 1>I would start right now and go for another twenty
<v Speaker 1>four hours. It was a lot of fun.
<v Speaker 2>Good news, you're doing it on your own. I'm actually
<v Speaker 2>jumping off this call now and you have to play
<v Speaker 2>family feud all on your own for twenty four hours.
<v Speaker 1>Now works. Once you're in the Bombitan vortex, you're here forever. No,
<v Speaker 1>it was great. The travel wasn't all that bad, other
<v Speaker 1>than for Sean who got stuck somewhere for a very
<v Speaker 1>long time. But he's home now so he could produce
<v Speaker 1>the show, and that's all that matters to me. So
<v Speaker 1>there we go. How have you been.
<v Speaker 2>I've been okay. It's been a up and down a
<v Speaker 2>few weeks, real roller coaster ride over these parts. But
<v Speaker 2>I have been really enjoying the content, which has been
<v Speaker 2>a nice distraction and I'm looking forward to I'm just
<v Speaker 2>getting kind of the beginnings of my Game of Year
<v Speaker 2>stuff organized. When it comes to every year start menu
<v Speaker 2>the website on we do similar to Giant Bomb guest
<v Speaker 2>lists and guest pieces, so I've been reaching out to
<v Speaker 2>folks and we have some really cool people this year already.
<v Speaker 2>So working on that, and I'm working on one review
<v Speaker 2>at the moment, which well, I'm not working out. I
<v Speaker 2>will be working on one review once the code comes in,
<v Speaker 2>but I at least have some work lined up, so
<v Speaker 2>I can't complain too much.
<v Speaker 1>Do you want to officially be the first person that
<v Speaker 1>I ask, Hey, do you want to do a guest
<v Speaker 1>list this year? No? Yeah, that's fair. No, honestly, I'd
<v Speaker 1>love to.
<v Speaker 2>I'd love to know. I know it's it's more work
<v Speaker 2>for you, then I'll definitely do it.
<v Speaker 1>It's actually I was gonna say more work for Marina,
<v Speaker 1>so but this part's the work. I got it. I
<v Speaker 1>told him I would get started on this two weeks ago.
<v Speaker 1>Did not do that. So now I'm gonna start asking
<v Speaker 1>people to come create lists for us, and we'll get
<v Speaker 1>all that on the website. Hopefully by then it'll just
<v Speaker 1>be the new website, but we'll see. For now, just
<v Speaker 1>plan on a good couple of weeks of guest lists
<v Speaker 1>from everybody looking forward to that. Yeah, it's that time
<v Speaker 1>of year. It's like, oh my god, we got to
<v Speaker 1>like start thinking about Game of the year. We just
<v Speaker 1>got done with the Boma time. We're gonna yeah it is.
<v Speaker 2>How is the game of the season already?
<v Speaker 1>Yep? And then we still want to do Extra Life
<v Speaker 1>So that's happening very very soon. Uh yeah, a lot
<v Speaker 1>is is all happening at once. But I'm gonna make
<v Speaker 1>some time for video games, although I didn't have a
<v Speaker 1>lot of time this weekend because I was like, I
<v Speaker 1>got I was gone for a week. I need to
<v Speaker 1>clean up. And then I started a project of like
<v Speaker 1>a fall cleaning of this closet over here. One of
<v Speaker 1>my shelves collapsed, and I'm like, I'm gonna fix that,
<v Speaker 1>and I got like halfway done. So this room is
<v Speaker 1>a disaster behind me right now and they need to
<v Speaker 1>finish that tonight hopefully. All Right, you know what we're rambling,
<v Speaker 1>So let's explain ourselves. We're Giant bomba a small team
<v Speaker 1>of video game dufices. We're independent games media out here
<v Speaker 1>on our own. We can continue to do that through
<v Speaker 1>your support. If you go to Giant bomb dot com,
<v Speaker 1>slash join and become a premium member, you can ensure
<v Speaker 1>that all this keeps happening. You can inflict it on others.
<v Speaker 1>That's the best way to help us out. And we
<v Speaker 1>really do appreciate everyone who's come through and done that.
<v Speaker 1>We appreciate the hundreds of people who joined up during
<v Speaker 1>the bomba Doon, and we look forward to convincing even
<v Speaker 1>more of you that this is worth supporting because we're
<v Speaker 1>not going anywhere because of your support. Once again, that's
<v Speaker 1>giant bomb dot com slash join as well. As far
<v Speaker 1>as this show goes most weekdays, I Jeff Grub will
<v Speaker 1>help get look at that. I just actually deleted a
<v Speaker 1>word here in this thing in my brain completely short circuited.
<v Speaker 1>I will bring build your gaming life back together. That
<v Speaker 1>includes breaking news and maybe even some of our own
<v Speaker 1>original reporting. For all these topics, I'll get the input
<v Speaker 1>of a bona fide expert who will make me look smart.
<v Speaker 1>If you are watching live on twitch welcome. You can
<v Speaker 1>always listen to the show later on podcast feeds by
<v Speaker 1>searching for game Mes Mornings or the RSS feed on
<v Speaker 1>giant bomb dot com. You can also catch the show
<v Speaker 1>later with chapters and timestamps on YouTube. Hello YouTube. All right,
<v Speaker 1>we have a lot to get into, so let's start
<v Speaker 1>the morning mess with Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection reviews. You know,
<v Speaker 1>we're kind of catching up on some news from last week.
<v Speaker 1>This is one that I think the reviews went up
<v Speaker 1>late last week. It's got an eighty five on Open Critic.
<v Speaker 1>I've been enjoying it. I want to spend more time
<v Speaker 1>with the documentary stuff, but all of it just sounds
<v Speaker 1>very well put together, as you would expect from Digital
<v Speaker 1>Eclipse and then working with another realm very closely. Apparently.
<v Speaker 1>It got an eight out of ten from Alessandro Falari
<v Speaker 1>at IGN, who says Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection is not
<v Speaker 1>only a great roundup of the franchise's earliest hits, it's
<v Speaker 1>also a tremendous history lesson on the building of a
<v Speaker 1>fighting game franchise that remains influential today. Nine out of
<v Speaker 1>ten from Jason Finelli at GameSpot shouts out to Jason,
<v Speaker 1>He'll be on the show later this week, Everybody. Mortal
<v Speaker 1>Kombat Legacy co Election is a compilation built from love
<v Speaker 1>not only for Mortal Kombat, but for video games as
<v Speaker 1>a whole. Each of the twenty three games featured here
<v Speaker 1>are restored to their original splendor content of the actual game,
<v Speaker 1>notwithstanding that would be a reference to stuff like the
<v Speaker 1>game Boy games and Mortal Kombat mythologies being awful and
<v Speaker 1>having no splinter whatsoever, those games, along with the documentary
<v Speaker 1>accompanying them, create a package worthy of the Mortal Kombat name.
<v Speaker 1>Have you had any chance to mess around with this?
<v Speaker 1>Is this something that you're interested in? What like you're
<v Speaker 1>part of the younger crowd. Where do what's Mortal Kombat's
<v Speaker 1>standing among gamers of your ILK?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, so I talked about this a little bit on
<v Speaker 2>Blue Sky. It's less of moral combat thing for me
<v Speaker 2>and more just like I don't have the history with
<v Speaker 2>fighting games to be able to justify a fifty dollars
<v Speaker 2>collection of fighting games, and that's kind of a shame
<v Speaker 2>because I'm looking at like the video and documentary stuff
<v Speaker 2>around this, I'm like, this is fucking incredible, this is
<v Speaker 2>so good, and I love all that stuff, But then like,
<v Speaker 2>actually going to spend fifty dollars on what would essentially
<v Speaker 2>just be a documentary for me because I wouldn't be
<v Speaker 2>playing that much of the fighting games is like a
<v Speaker 2>very hard sell. I think Xbox Era in the chat
<v Speaker 2>dropped in some of the stuff around this being like
<v Speaker 2>hit pretty getting received pretty poorly by the community, and
<v Speaker 2>the input delay on the multiplayer game seems to be
<v Speaker 2>pretty rough. It's like twenty seconds on PC and then
<v Speaker 2>all the way up to one hundred milliseconds on PS five,
<v Speaker 2>which is not ideal. And it's one of those things
<v Speaker 2>where it's one of those things where reviews will kind
<v Speaker 2>of fail you in that regard because you just aren't
<v Speaker 2>going to be playing that many online multiplayer matches in
<v Speaker 2>a review period. You will maybe have a couple of
<v Speaker 2>sessions that they'll set up, especially for a game like
<v Speaker 2>this where there's so many games to look through and
<v Speaker 2>there's so many to test, but like, you're not actually
<v Speaker 2>going to get testing numbers on this until it's out
<v Speaker 2>to a wider audience and there's a player base to
<v Speaker 2>play against. So I think that, like, I kind of
<v Speaker 2>feel bad for the people who have viewed who are
<v Speaker 2>now getting people getting mad at them, being like this
<v Speaker 2>game is flawed. I was like, yeah, there was literally
<v Speaker 2>no way I could have known. But also this seems
<v Speaker 2>like the kind of thing that I bet like both
<v Speaker 2>netherelm and and the folks over at Digital Eclipse are
<v Speaker 2>like looking at and being like, we should make this rich.
<v Speaker 2>It's the kind of thing when this is this is
<v Speaker 2>a game that they're going to be selling for a
<v Speaker 2>long time and all have a long tail, and they
<v Speaker 2>want it to be rich, and so I can imagine
<v Speaker 2>that they're going to keep working on it for a while.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I was gonna say, we didn't notice the input
<v Speaker 1>delay when we were playing and like that could just
<v Speaker 1>be because the setting, because we're dopes, a bunch of reasons,
<v Speaker 1>but we had a bunch of us playing. I think
<v Speaker 1>someone would have mentioned something and it's like, oh, okay, well,
<v Speaker 1>we were playing on PC and twenty milliseconds is is
<v Speaker 1>nothing that would be one frame at sixty frames per second.
<v Speaker 1>I think one frame is fourteen milliseconds at sixty sixty
<v Speaker 1>frames per second. I'm just going off the top of
<v Speaker 1>my head. People, I might be.
<v Speaker 2>Read milliseconds is pretty common in an embulasia.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, in twenty milliseconds is just the you know what.
<v Speaker 1>The community that you were talking about, they will notice,
<v Speaker 1>probably a little bit, beause they're so used to frame
<v Speaker 1>perfect input. The vast majority of people are not going
<v Speaker 1>to notice at twenty milliseconds one hundred milliseconds, though everyone
<v Speaker 1>probably will notice something at that. So that's probably what
<v Speaker 1>we're getting here in that game is going to sell
<v Speaker 1>a lot on consoles, it's going to sell a lot
<v Speaker 1>on switch it's kind of being marketed as such. So yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I'm with anyone who's saying we need to fix that.
<v Speaker 1>But on PC, at least we had a really good time.
<v Speaker 1>It worked really well on there. I'm just I continue
<v Speaker 1>to be all for Digital Founder or Digital Foundry, Digital
<v Speaker 1>Eclips doing these sorts of projects. I've talked about them
<v Speaker 1>a bunch before. I think that this is we're just.
<v Speaker 2>Saying, as you're getting into the credits. Now you have
<v Speaker 2>a MOBI games page, and you're just like, you're just
<v Speaker 2>you'll say anything to get into more video game credits.
<v Speaker 1>I am a slut for my Mobi games page. That's
<v Speaker 1>absolutely correct. I I hope that this is the one
<v Speaker 1>that really breaks out for them though, because them being
<v Speaker 1>able to do this with a franchise as storied and
<v Speaker 1>high profiles Mortal Kombat really does feel like, Okay, this
<v Speaker 1>is going to open it up, to open them up
<v Speaker 1>to work with every other kind of partner short of
<v Speaker 1>probably Nintendo. But I think you know, Microsoft's got a
<v Speaker 1>bunch of these these studios. Now, uh, don't be it.
<v Speaker 1>Don't be dickheads and just let Digital Clips go in
<v Speaker 1>there and do this with Doom. That would just be phenomenal.
<v Speaker 2>At this point, I would I was not if you could,
<v Speaker 2>if you could like top your head, what would be
<v Speaker 2>the first franchise you would or franchise or like developer
<v Speaker 2>you would point to and be like, I want a
<v Speaker 2>Digital Clips treatment for them.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, you know, Masters of Doom is always playing
<v Speaker 1>repeat in my head after reading that, and it's like,
<v Speaker 1>I think that getting another fresh look and another like
<v Speaker 1>first hand accounting from all the people involved done with
<v Speaker 1>the sort of very journalistic eye that that Digital Clips has.
<v Speaker 1>You know, they have Chris Kohler working over there. That's
<v Speaker 1>that's that's real deal journalism. Guy's like gonna do his
<v Speaker 1>fact checking and stuff like that. I would love to
<v Speaker 1>have that done for them. But you know, Pine the
<v Speaker 1>Sky would be, Mario would be nineteen eighties and Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>stuff count counterpoint.
<v Speaker 2>What if instead of a Doom collection, you got a
<v Speaker 2>gold mass for series for John Romero and it was
<v Speaker 2>just Katana.
<v Speaker 1>I would love that. I would legitimately, I would completely
<v Speaker 1>lose my mind for that. I want the gre nitty
<v Speaker 1>gritty dirt about making Daikatana and having that. What it
<v Speaker 1>was that the penthouse in Dallas at the top of
<v Speaker 1>the skyscraper where they had skylights and they're like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>this is awesome, and then they brought the computers in
<v Speaker 1>there and then no one could fucking see their computer
<v Speaker 1>screens because it was too bright in there. And there,
<v Speaker 1>so they these guys.
<v Speaker 2>Built blaup you have to so that you can see.
<v Speaker 1>It's why that game looks so fucked up. That's right.
<v Speaker 1>The intensity slider was a feature. But yeah, we build
<v Speaker 1>these blackout tents so you'd go in there and be
<v Speaker 1>these goddamn nerds. And they're weird little tents in this
<v Speaker 1>penthouse suite. It's a I want to hear all about it,
<v Speaker 1>all right, let's keep going here. Grand Theft Auto Studio
<v Speaker 1>accused of union busting after firings Grand Theft, Grand Auto,
<v Speaker 1>the rock Star company that doesn't sound like them, tell
<v Speaker 1>us it. Jason Trier Bloomberger is reporting Take two Interactive
<v Speaker 1>Software incorporated Rockstar Games fired dozens of employees in a
<v Speaker 1>move that a British trade union said was designed to
<v Speaker 1>prevent the workers from unionizing. The company said they were
<v Speaker 1>fired for miss misconduct instead. The Grand Theft Auto maker
<v Speaker 1>terminated between thirty and forty staffers across multiple offices in
<v Speaker 1>the UK and Canada on According to a spokesperson for
<v Speaker 1>the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain, all of the
<v Speaker 1>employees were part of a private trade union chat group
<v Speaker 1>on discord and were either members of the union or
<v Speaker 1>attempting to organize at the company. The union spokesperson said
<v Speaker 1>Rockstar has just carried out one of the most blatant
<v Speaker 1>and ruthless acts of union busting in the history of
<v Speaker 1>the game's industry. Alex Marshall, president of IWGB, said in
<v Speaker 1>a statement, this flagrant contempt for the law and for
<v Speaker 1>the lives of the workers who bring in their billions
<v Speaker 1>is an insult to their fans in the global industry.
<v Speaker 1>Alan Lewis, a spokesman for Take two, said the firings
<v Speaker 1>were for gross misconduct and for no other reason, and
<v Speaker 1>that we fully support Rockstar's ambition and and approach. Okay, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>of course Rockstar has doubled down on security, fallowing massive
<v Speaker 1>leak blah blah blah, A little bit more details here.
<v Speaker 2>Conduct is really interesting to not elaborate on, because if
<v Speaker 2>someone's done something that is like grossly out of line,
<v Speaker 2>usually these companies our first and foremost to be like,
<v Speaker 2>and here's why we kick them out.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, or even say like, hey, we can't talk about
<v Speaker 1>it because there's an ongoing investigation. But there's an investigation
<v Speaker 1>and we are going to look into this and correct
<v Speaker 1>these issues that were so ingrained that thirty to forty
<v Speaker 1>people were responsible for it. That is a cultural issue.
<v Speaker 1>You would have to take responsibility for that if it
<v Speaker 1>were real. And you know, I let me just let
<v Speaker 1>me cover my butt because it's Rockstar. While these things
<v Speaker 1>are alleged, I'm allowed to believe them. I believe them.
<v Speaker 1>This sounds like they just fire people for organizing, and uh,
<v Speaker 1>of course they would, because it's still rock Star. But
<v Speaker 1>the story holds down that they turned the corner.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, old habits and that, Like, yeah, it's it's
<v Speaker 2>a real fucking bummer because you know that people who
<v Speaker 2>are working on that game were working on it for
<v Speaker 2>a long ass time. Like you think about how long
<v Speaker 2>that game has been in development, and like, what are
<v Speaker 2>the that they make it into the credits now at
<v Speaker 2>this point, what are the odds that they get their
<v Speaker 2>credit on mobile games and they get to be able
<v Speaker 2>to go around and say like, Hey, I worked on
<v Speaker 2>the biggest media franchise in the world and it's all
<v Speaker 2>because they were trying to make the workplace better and
<v Speaker 2>safer and more supportive for their co workers. Like that
<v Speaker 2>doesn't seem right, That really doesn't seem like consciousnessable. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>this sucks if it's true, I should also say, and yeah,
<v Speaker 2>like the Workers Union and Great Britain, they do pretty
<v Speaker 2>pretty good work. I've talked to people who work there
<v Speaker 2>and they would not come out swinging with the statement
<v Speaker 2>quite as strong as this unless they were very adamant
<v Speaker 2>that it was truly uncalled for. So yeah, this sucks.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, this is a company that has made a lot
<v Speaker 1>of money from Great Theft Auto. And you know, let's
<v Speaker 1>see this nextor because we can just kind of wrap
<v Speaker 1>it all in. Rockstar co founder shares thoughts on GTA six,
<v Speaker 1>abandoned GTA five DLC, a medieval game agent, and more.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Blair Marnell at GameSpot. Rockstar Games's former
<v Speaker 1>VP of Creative Dan Hauser, left the company in twenty twenty,
<v Speaker 1>but he's still a well spring of knowledge about Grand
<v Speaker 1>Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, both of which he
<v Speaker 1>was a lead writer on. Howser recently shared his insights
<v Speaker 1>into both games a game series I should say, as
<v Speaker 1>well as a few Rockstars unrealized projects during a nearly
<v Speaker 1>three hour interview with Lex Friedman on YouTube. Of course,
<v Speaker 1>Houser touched on GTA five's uncompleted DLC that would have
<v Speaker 1>featured Trevor as a secret agent. It never quite came
<v Speaker 1>together and it was never finished, recalled Hauser. It was
<v Speaker 1>about halfway done when it got abandoned. But I think
<v Speaker 1>if it had come out, we probably wouldn't have gotten
<v Speaker 1>to make Red Dead two, So there's always compromises. I
<v Speaker 1>like making the stories for me. I love the model
<v Speaker 1>of GTA four when you had extra stories coming after
<v Speaker 1>or Red Dead one where you had the zombie spack
<v Speaker 1>coming afterward. I like doing these extra things, so I
<v Speaker 1>would have personally liked to have done more for more
<v Speaker 1>of that for the company. Howser related that a James
<v Speaker 1>Bond style game, blah blah agent. He also mentioned that
<v Speaker 1>the big reason that they didn't do a lot of
<v Speaker 1>extra content for GTA five was because GT online took off,
<v Speaker 1>and like every dollar they spent making content for GT
<v Speaker 1>online would create a massive return, and any dollar they
<v Speaker 1>would have spent creating DLC would have been a greatly
<v Speaker 1>reduced return on that investment. So it was just a
<v Speaker 1>business decision, just mathematical equation of this is where we
<v Speaker 1>should be spending our time and our money, and that
<v Speaker 1>is I bet a surprise to almost nobody. It is
<v Speaker 1>the thing that we speculated on for forever. Everyone just
<v Speaker 1>kind of accepted that as Yeah, they've been making more
<v Speaker 1>money from this other thing, so of course they're going
<v Speaker 1>to do that. But it does sound like that they
<v Speaker 1>would have preferred to make DLC, because at least that's
<v Speaker 1>the way how makes it sound. I guess my question
<v Speaker 1>would be to you, it's like, when these guys leave
<v Speaker 1>to go start their own thing, do you think they're
<v Speaker 1>going to do things any differently or are they just
<v Speaker 1>going to try to emulate the GTA online model, Like
<v Speaker 1>do you think that they can go back to making
<v Speaker 1>DLC for these games? And is there any chance Rockstar
<v Speaker 1>ever makes DLC again?
<v Speaker 2>Does Rocks ever make delC again? I think they view
<v Speaker 2>DLC now as online support, Like right, that's what they
<v Speaker 2>view ongoing support. As you saw that with the Laisure
<v Speaker 2>GGA and online updates, they got very like story heavy.
<v Speaker 2>I'm not sure if you ever went back to them,
<v Speaker 2>but post the first set of heist ones was when
<v Speaker 2>they started adding it a bit more sorry, but by
<v Speaker 2>the end of it they were adding in like cut
<v Speaker 2>scenes and bringing back old characters, which was all very
<v Speaker 2>weird because apparently all of Grand Theft or Online is
<v Speaker 2>still set a year before GGA five, So it's been
<v Speaker 2>set a year before GGA five for the last like
<v Speaker 2>fifteen years almost now, which is really fucking hilarious. But yeah,
<v Speaker 2>apparently he's been getting out and doing this as part
<v Speaker 2>of his book tour, which is also part of his
<v Speaker 2>Absurd Ventures thing whatever that is, the multimedia project and
<v Speaker 2>that book. If you want to hear a little bit
<v Speaker 2>of what that book is about is it is the
<v Speaker 2>first The book is called Where Is It a Better Paradise?
<v Speaker 2>Volume one in Brackets and Aftermath, the first novel from
<v Speaker 2>Dan Houser RSHO Grand Theft Our Show and Red Dead
<v Speaker 2>Redemption series. Everyone tries to escape from Paradise. Mike Tyburn
<v Speaker 2>dreams of building a perfect video game. Kersh Fisher dreams
<v Speaker 2>of being rich and successful executive. Daisy Tyburn dreams of
<v Speaker 2>having the ideal father.
<v Speaker 1>Oh hell yeah, oh helly Okay, Yeah, let's fucking go.
<v Speaker 1>This is a video game writer's novel. I have to
<v Speaker 1>read this. I've I've read on two chapters of the
<v Speaker 1>Ball and wonder World novel, so I'll have to read this.
<v Speaker 2>Apparently Andrew Lincoln is doing the voice for the audiobook.
<v Speaker 2>Really yeah, so you know about there again money for this?
<v Speaker 1>Well, I yeah, hey, good luck on all that. I want.
<v Speaker 1>I want to see if his style translates to the
<v Speaker 1>written pros. But we will see either way. Grand Theft
<v Speaker 1>Auto Online made a lot of money, continues to make
<v Speaker 1>a lot of money, and what a union would eventually
<v Speaker 1>probably establish is some sort of revenue share, some sort
<v Speaker 1>of ongoing payment for the people who created that work.
<v Speaker 1>That would be the ideal. Long term goal is to
<v Speaker 1>get residuals. And so a company like rock Star even
<v Speaker 1>you know, actually I was gonna say, like, oh, even
<v Speaker 1>though they are they've made some changes, like they've improved
<v Speaker 1>their their working conditions. Well that's not an even though
<v Speaker 1>that is, Well, they do that so that they don't
<v Speaker 1>get a union. When I when I worked at.
<v Speaker 2>A put in the pool table, everybody exactly.
<v Speaker 1>When I worked at fed X, UPS was unionized. I'm
<v Speaker 1>sure I've told this story before as well, we would
<v Speaker 1>get all the benefits that that UPS got because fed
<v Speaker 1>X was scared of the union. So they're like, we'll
<v Speaker 1>just give you all the stuff that UPS drivers and
<v Speaker 1>and uh, you know factory workers are getting. And so
<v Speaker 1>it's like okay, yeah, Yeah, that's that's great. So they
<v Speaker 1>were making all those moves specifically to avoid getting union.
<v Speaker 1>This sounds like Rockstar recently was like, hey, we are
<v Speaker 1>putting our thumb into the wind where we're locking it.
<v Speaker 1>We're gonna see which way the wind is blowing. Feels
<v Speaker 1>like it's blowing toward unions. So with all those things
<v Speaker 1>that we were dragging our feet around, of dragging our
<v Speaker 1>feet about regarding being very strict about making sure that
<v Speaker 1>people stay here and do a lot of ser work
<v Speaker 1>to try to get these games done, we are going
<v Speaker 1>to be a little bit softer on that and treat
<v Speaker 1>people a little bit more fairly. And it's like, okay,
<v Speaker 1>well rock Star has changed its tune. It's like no,
<v Speaker 1>it's they've just recognized the reality of the situation. And
<v Speaker 1>then when they are faced with the prospect of a union,
<v Speaker 1>what it's like, No, that's the thing they're certainly trying
<v Speaker 1>to avoid. They do not want to share these profits. Ever,
<v Speaker 1>they go in there and allegedly fire every single person
<v Speaker 1>involved with that. It's or at least or at least
<v Speaker 1>every person they fired was involved with that. It's it's
<v Speaker 1>a bit much.
<v Speaker 2>It's really worth noting that like from everything I hear,
<v Speaker 2>the game development scene in Scotland is so massively shaped
<v Speaker 2>and parts of the UK surrounding that they have a
<v Speaker 2>London office as well, but especially Scotland and northern Scotland
<v Speaker 2>where Locksar North are based, and it is massively shaped
<v Speaker 2>by Lockstar in so far as you saw it with
<v Speaker 2>Mind's Eye, where if someone leaves ROXA and they say
<v Speaker 2>they're going staging a new thing, everyone is comparing it
<v Speaker 2>to GGA and there's an expectation that it will be
<v Speaker 2>the next GGA and that creates this unhealthy cycle instantly,
<v Speaker 2>and there's so much pressure. There's so few opportunities in
<v Speaker 2>Scotland now unless you are rocks Are affiliated. It's really
<v Speaker 2>hard to get a studio off the ground in Scotland
<v Speaker 2>because why would people invest in you when they could
<v Speaker 2>invest in a guy who's coming out of Rosa, or
<v Speaker 2>they could invest in themselves. So it's a really frustrating
<v Speaker 2>scene for the people up there to have one of
<v Speaker 2>what would have been a huge union effort step having
<v Speaker 2>a studio that size and that importance coming together. The
<v Speaker 2>idea of that no longer happening is very frustrating for
<v Speaker 2>people who might be working at other studios as well.
<v Speaker 1>GJ six is still going to come out, and a
<v Speaker 1>lot of the stuffs. We'll just get buried by the
<v Speaker 1>hype for that. But I hope these workers can continue
<v Speaker 1>to push against this, and I hope the IWGB is
<v Speaker 1>able to make some in roads here and punish Rockstar
<v Speaker 1>if this turns out to be the case what they're
<v Speaker 1>alleging here.
<v Speaker 2>Awry Dan, howauser's book has a pull quote from Ernest Klein.
<v Speaker 1>Of course it does. I'm gonna have to read this thing,
<v Speaker 1>all right. I'm gonna I'll dive in for everybody. Everyone,
<v Speaker 1>you just stand back. Let me handle this one, all right.
<v Speaker 1>We're gonna take a break. Plenty of more headlines to
<v Speaker 1>get to after we return from the break. If you
<v Speaker 1>want to skip out on these advertisements, you can go

<v Speaker 1>I want to teach you how to overcome your fear
<v Speaker 1>of saving money. No, I don't want to.
<v Speaker 3>I will only ever pay the manufactured suggested retail price.

<v Speaker 1>All Right, we're back. It's game Best Mornings. I'm Jeff
<v Speaker 1>Grubb lex Ludi LEXI. When I got to uh East
<v Speaker 1>Coast and uh got to the Airbnb, one of the
<v Speaker 1>first things that happened was Dan gave me this, uh,
<v Speaker 1>this is this nice photo here. Uh let me take
<v Speaker 1>a look at me, show it to everybody. Let's see.
<v Speaker 1>Oh my god, it's says I didn't forget on the
<v Speaker 1>back it's yeah, the moment where I shot him in
<v Speaker 1>the face with the the explosive at Summer game Fest.
<v Speaker 1>And on the back here apparently he's written I didn't forget,
<v Speaker 1>which an innominous handwriting, which might just be his handwriting,
<v Speaker 1>but it's I'm scared.
<v Speaker 2>This is some Chris fhan Nolan momental ship.
<v Speaker 1>Right, yeah, yep, there you go. Take a look everyone.
<v Speaker 1>That's the good stuff. All right, let's keep going with
<v Speaker 1>the headlines here.
<v Speaker 2>Life has been playing in the service since that moment.
<v Speaker 1>Oh yes, yeah, and it's uh he hasn't formed any
<v Speaker 1>new memories since then as well. That's weird, but to
<v Speaker 1>be fair, done hasn't do you know, and informed any
<v Speaker 1>new memberies before that as well, since like nineteen ninety seven.
<v Speaker 1>Very good point, all right, let's keep going here with
<v Speaker 1>the headlines. The next Mario Galaxy movie reveal is reportedly
<v Speaker 1>coming very soon. This is from Andy Robinson at VGC.
<v Speaker 1>The next reveal for Nintendo Super Mario Galaxy movie is
<v Speaker 1>reportedly dropping in the next few weeks. That's according to
<v Speaker 1>Movies Scoops outlet My Time to Shine, which claims the
<v Speaker 1>first trailer for the Super Mario Galaxy movie will be
<v Speaker 1>attached to Wicked for Good, which is due in cinemas
<v Speaker 1>on November twenty. First is Wicked for Good, the second
<v Speaker 1>part of the Wicked Yeah, okay, cool, that'll.
<v Speaker 2>Be Mike Manati is gonna crash through this discord call
<v Speaker 2>if you make another mistake like that.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that's fair. Well this sid we're just asking questions, Mike.
<v Speaker 1>You don't do anything rash, be careful if accurate. That
<v Speaker 1>that means that the Galaxy movie trailer will almost certainly
<v Speaker 1>be published online within the next few weeks. Say that
<v Speaker 1>movie's coming out in April. It's time for us to
<v Speaker 1>like see a real trailer. They told us the name
<v Speaker 1>Super Mario Galaxy. That was during a direct, right, that
<v Speaker 1>was the last direct They kind of confirm that, but
<v Speaker 1>we haven't seen anything from the movie itself.
<v Speaker 2>But we saw that teaser. We saw that teaser of
<v Speaker 2>that feels and then it looks like.
<v Speaker 1>Y, yeah, you're right. It was like just sort of
<v Speaker 1>establishing a setting and they like, right, yeah, it's.
<v Speaker 2>And they play the galaxy music they.
<v Speaker 1>Write and then said the name. Okay, So we're waiting
<v Speaker 1>for a real, like even a real teaser trailer because
<v Speaker 1>that was just like just a teaser teaser. It didn't
<v Speaker 1>show like, I don't think that scene is in the
<v Speaker 1>movie of them panning up to the title unless that's
<v Speaker 1>the title reveal the title card. So yeah, and now
<v Speaker 1>it's about time that we would get something like this.
<v Speaker 1>That's how movie trailers usually work. So yeah, I'm looking
<v Speaker 1>forward to this. Do you think that this second movie
<v Speaker 1>is gonna have as much juice as the first one
<v Speaker 1>did or already gone?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's going to do nuts numbers. That first movie
<v Speaker 2>did so well and this one will continue to do
<v Speaker 2>well because it's still the same overlap in a lot
<v Speaker 2>of ways of the parents who like the name Mario
<v Speaker 2>because they remember it from when they were young. And
<v Speaker 2>you have to remember that, like parents who remember the
<v Speaker 2>name Mario, you're now talking not just people, you know,
<v Speaker 2>in their fourties and fifties. You're talking about people who
<v Speaker 2>played the Wii and are now in their twenties and
<v Speaker 2>are like, I loved Mario Kart and I have a
<v Speaker 2>kid now I'll bring them to see this, So like
<v Speaker 2>it's a huge cohorsh of parents who are agreeable to
<v Speaker 2>an ip early on, which is kind of like one
<v Speaker 2>of the limiting factors to getting kids into a movie
<v Speaker 2>is are parents willing to bring them to see it
<v Speaker 2>in theaters. And like, the thing I'm most excited about
<v Speaker 2>this or for this is less than movie, because I'm
<v Speaker 2>pretty sure that movie will just be okay, similar to
<v Speaker 2>how the first one was, And it's more the stuff
<v Speaker 2>that they will do to tie in with it, the
<v Speaker 2>idea that Nintendo are like properly acknowledging Galaxy as a
<v Speaker 2>really important part of Mario history and being like, n
<v Speaker 2>this is like a tenth pole of the Mario franchise.
<v Speaker 2>Like whether that be that they do Mario Galaxy lego
<v Speaker 2>sets or they do you know, Mario Galaxy something or
<v Speaker 2>another like that stuff, I'm way more interested in.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, I'm I'm yeah, I'm curious to see how
<v Speaker 1>they set up continue to set up future movies and
<v Speaker 1>expanding the Nintendo films with illumination, like we know they're
<v Speaker 1>do we know where is that still rumored that they're
<v Speaker 1>doing a Donkey Kong movie. I think they've said that
<v Speaker 1>they're doing a Donkey Kong movie as well. Either way,
<v Speaker 1>it's like we can expect that. But each of these movies,
<v Speaker 1>or at least you know the way it works for
<v Speaker 1>like the Sonic films recently, it's been like every movie
<v Speaker 1>sets up the next movie with a big teaser at
<v Speaker 1>the end. They just want to keep this going and
<v Speaker 1>keep making it bigger, and like they have a spin
<v Speaker 1>off show, you know, on Paramount or whatever, and I
<v Speaker 1>expect them to do that. Here it's like okay, so
<v Speaker 1>do they like firmly establish like okay, now go see
<v Speaker 1>the Donkey Kong movie and here's the teaser for the
<v Speaker 1>next Mari movie at the end, and then like here's
<v Speaker 1>another new character that probably will get a movie as well.
<v Speaker 1>Do they keep trying to like make these movies advertisement
<v Speaker 1>for future movies, because that seems to be like what
<v Speaker 1>they really are gonna be as opposed to decent movies
<v Speaker 1>made with strong story, because that's just we didn't get
<v Speaker 1>there from the first one. I'm not gonna expect that
<v Speaker 1>from this one. So yeah, I want to see how
<v Speaker 1>aggressive they're going to get with setting up future projects.
<v Speaker 1>But we'll see.
<v Speaker 2>Grub. A late bit of breaking news, a new video
<v Speaker 2>game console has been announced. Yeah this is from soldier
<v Speaker 2>Boy dot nesh. Soldier Boy review reveals new gaming handheld
<v Speaker 2>that is just a clone of the Retroid Pocket Flip
<v Speaker 2>to slash Pocket five it is. It is four hundred
<v Speaker 2>and thirty six dollars or two hundred and seven dollars
<v Speaker 2>for the Pocket four version. And for Retroid's part, they
<v Speaker 2>have gotten out there with the quote saying I didn't
<v Speaker 2>know that any I didn't know about this. This is
<v Speaker 2>not any kind of official licensing deal. He does not
<v Speaker 2>have permission to rebrandle products and sell them as his own.
<v Speaker 2>The Retroid Pocket Flip two is patented by in the
<v Speaker 2>US Patent Office by ourselves.
<v Speaker 1>A video game console for people who like to drink
<v Speaker 1>to get drunk and smoke to get high. I'm in
<v Speaker 1>let's do it, especially if it's unofficial white label where
<v Speaker 1>they're just apparently just buying a bunch on Ali Baba
<v Speaker 1>and putting the soldier boys name on it, maybe not
<v Speaker 1>even doing that.
<v Speaker 2>It's straight up is that the screenshots that they are
<v Speaker 2>using on the website, they are the promotional screenshots that
<v Speaker 2>they use on the Retroid website. Because I've looked at
<v Speaker 2>those screenshots quite recently.
<v Speaker 1>Absolutely beautiful. I'm so glad he's still doing his insane things.
<v Speaker 1>I would have it no other way.
<v Speaker 2>He made a video of him pointing a camera at
<v Speaker 2>himself and holding one of the Retroid pocket flips while
<v Speaker 2>he wears a gold chain and talks about how great
<v Speaker 2>it is.
<v Speaker 1>All right, yeah, I mean, yeah, god, it's really he
<v Speaker 1>does it. He does it for the culture because when
<v Speaker 1>you in that, this culture specifically is YouTubers, because that
<v Speaker 1>last time that he did this stuff, there was like
<v Speaker 1>five hundred YouTube videos that I had like millions of views.
<v Speaker 1>He fed a lot of people with that with this behavior,
<v Speaker 1>and he's back. He's going to do it again. You
<v Speaker 1>can already hear them getting on their cameras and talking
<v Speaker 1>right into him about this.
<v Speaker 2>They live like, I don't think I can quite get
<v Speaker 2>this across. They literally just copied and pasted the images
<v Speaker 2>that are on the Retroid store when you go to
<v Speaker 2>their store and it's two hundred and thirty dollars more expensive.
<v Speaker 1>I hell, yeah, Oh my god. I hope, I hope
<v Speaker 1>he'd even copy and paste. I hope he just like
<v Speaker 1>did the image src equals and it's just linking back
<v Speaker 1>to the images actually just hosted on Ambernick's server or whatever.
<v Speaker 1>I hope he didn't even download them. That would be
<v Speaker 1>they do thirty dollars more expensive. Huh.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, they do seem to be slightly ed issued because
<v Speaker 2>now all of these images have Soldia game above them
<v Speaker 2>in big white text, so you know, someone then knows
<v Speaker 2>how to photoshop images.
<v Speaker 1>All right, Well, go get your Soldier game retroid pocket
<v Speaker 1>flip s right now at the low low price of
<v Speaker 1>four thousand dollars. Run, don't walk, all right, let's keep going.
<v Speaker 1>Consumer spent twice as much on video game REMAKEX than remasters,
<v Speaker 1>according to research. Headline is the story. Andy Robinson VGC
<v Speaker 1>kind of recapped it real quick. The research comes from
<v Speaker 1>Ampeer looked at a bunch of titles. How they exactly
<v Speaker 1>delineated between remake and remastered. They said stuff like remake
<v Speaker 1>is like Resident Evil and Arresting Evil two, and then
<v Speaker 1>Final Fantasy seven remake and then compared those two stuff
<v Speaker 1>like the Last of Us Part one remaster or maybe
<v Speaker 1>it was Part two remaster, and then Elder Scrolls four
<v Speaker 1>Oblivion Remastered, which I think is a special edition, so
<v Speaker 1>they kind of comparing compared to contrasted. It's like, I
<v Speaker 1>don't know, I think the results here are pretty clear
<v Speaker 1>and obvious that you put more work into a game,
<v Speaker 1>more people are going to pay attention to it, because,
<v Speaker 1>for the most part, a remaster is a game you've
<v Speaker 1>played before, where a remake is a whole new version
<v Speaker 1>of that game in many cases, and especially in the
<v Speaker 1>case of something like Resident and Evil two or Final
<v Speaker 1>Fantasy seven remake. So anything about this surprise you.
<v Speaker 2>It seems kind of fuzzy in some ways the actual
<v Speaker 2>research because you know, if you were to ask me,
<v Speaker 2>is Elder Scrolls for a remake or remaster, it's kind
<v Speaker 2>of more of a remake in a lot of ways,
<v Speaker 2>like it is ground up assets, It is a big
<v Speaker 2>old team working on it. It is not a Porsche
<v Speaker 2>got made running. It's not like you know, the Final
<v Speaker 2>Fantasy you know sixteen bit collection that they have where
<v Speaker 2>it is kind of just ports of the mobile games
<v Speaker 2>to consoles. So yeah, this is just a weird bit
<v Speaker 2>of research. I get what they're trying to prove with it,
<v Speaker 2>but also it just seems like they're choices of what
<v Speaker 2>counts as remake and a remaster. You could have just
<v Speaker 2>as easily counted stuff like Elder Skulls Oblivion remastered as
<v Speaker 2>a remake if you wanted to.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's and I think they do kind of know that.
<v Speaker 1>It's a little bit weird, and it's like, you know,
<v Speaker 1>whenever we try to define those things, I think we can,
<v Speaker 1>but once we start talking about it's like, Okay, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I think we've got to figure it out. But also
<v Speaker 1>a lot of times on shows like this, I'll use
<v Speaker 1>remastered and remake interchangeably these days, because mostly I don't care,
<v Speaker 1>Like I'll just look at the game and make my
<v Speaker 1>decision based on the game, and sort of putting these
<v Speaker 1>things in the categories that only helps so much. But yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I'll say that the idea that the more money and
<v Speaker 1>time put into a project nets greater returns, that seems
<v Speaker 1>to be pretty obvious here. And you know, at the
<v Speaker 1>same time, remasters are doing just fine when you compare
<v Speaker 1>the fact that they cost a lot less to produce,
<v Speaker 1>so It's like, there's reasons to do all these things,
<v Speaker 1>but if you do put in the extra effort, I'll
<v Speaker 1>say that to me, that sounds like a good thing.
<v Speaker 1>If you put an extra effort on the production side,
<v Speaker 1>you'll get rewarded with greater returns. I hope companies are
<v Speaker 1>noticing that and being like, I hope you know, maybe
<v Speaker 1>that carries over to original ideas as well, And maybe
<v Speaker 1>it doesn't as much these days, but I hope it does.
<v Speaker 1>Our Greater's peaks at over three hundred and fifty thousand
<v Speaker 1>players over the weekend. Game seems like it's really working.
<v Speaker 1>It's a forty dollars premium price game. I believe that's
<v Speaker 1>the right price. I'm pulling that off the top of
<v Speaker 1>my head as well. But yeah, it's it's competing with
<v Speaker 1>Battlefield and all these other games. It's people pointed out
<v Speaker 1>it is one of the top performing extraction shooters ever
<v Speaker 1>on Steam. Yeah, what do you think the difference is
<v Speaker 1>here for this game compared to stuff like the Test
<v Speaker 1>for Marathon or any other game in this of this
<v Speaker 1>kind that maybe hasn't taken off the way our creators has.
<v Speaker 2>I think some of this probably comes down to they
<v Speaker 2>did a really good job building their community. Early on,
<v Speaker 2>they were like and the community that they built was
<v Speaker 2>an interesting one in some ways. They were releasing like
<v Speaker 2>white papers on the technology that they were using very
<v Speaker 2>early on in development, and so you had people who
<v Speaker 2>were way into their like shit and knew their shit
<v Speaker 2>learning about this and getting interested in it, and then
<v Speaker 2>telling people who were slightly less interested or knew their shit,
<v Speaker 2>like in a less technical sense of like, no, trust me,
<v Speaker 2>this thing's probably going to be really cool. And it
<v Speaker 2>just proliferated really well for them. So I think they
<v Speaker 2>got like pretty lucky in that sense of building a community.
<v Speaker 2>And yeah, I think that they've been struggling with like
<v Speaker 2>their servers actually saying up. I know Christian was in
<v Speaker 2>super long serviocues and which again there's only like so
<v Speaker 2>much you can do to plan for that. But yeah,
<v Speaker 2>this I'm curious about this game. I haven't tried it
<v Speaker 2>out much yet beyond some of the beta tests, but yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I might jump in at some point.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna try to play it here
<v Speaker 1>this week on the website. Even I'm I'm curious about it.
<v Speaker 1>I think it's got a really great look. I want
<v Speaker 1>to kind of just see if it's gonna grab me.
<v Speaker 1>I think there's a chance that it will. I do.
<v Speaker 1>I have I've seen a lot of people playing by themselves.
<v Speaker 1>I do wonder if it's like, can you go in
<v Speaker 1>there in solo Q or or do you have to
<v Speaker 1>fillow up a team? So so someone asking that, it's like,
<v Speaker 1>I don't know, but I would like to just go
<v Speaker 1>in there by myself first and see if I could
<v Speaker 1>figure it out and go from there. Uh. Fortnite as
<v Speaker 1>a new season the Simpsons has speculated has arrived. They
<v Speaker 1>launched it and there it seems pretty cool. Chris calling
<v Speaker 1>at veg See has the story here. After much speculation,
<v Speaker 1>the Simpsons have finally arrived in Fortnite. A brand new
<v Speaker 1>island based on Springfield is available for the next month,
<v Speaker 1>offering what Epic Games calls a fast base back to
<v Speaker 1>basics Battle Royal experience for up to eighty players. The
<v Speaker 1>new map will be accompanied by a Springfield Battle Pass,
<v Speaker 1>which includes numerous rewards, including premium skins such as Homer, Marge, Flanders,
<v Speaker 1>Blinky fish Stick, and Springfield are puly according to Epic Games.
<v Speaker 2>Like the idea of like BacT to basics for the
<v Speaker 2>Simpson like boots on the ground, Simpsons on.
<v Speaker 1>The ground, Homer Simpsons got boots on the ground. No
<v Speaker 1>more wall running with weird Bart Simpson doing double jumps.
<v Speaker 1>We don't have any of that stuff. Modern movement is
<v Speaker 1>dead in Springfield. They've also sprinkled a bunch of locations
<v Speaker 1>throughout the map that you are going to be recognizable,
<v Speaker 1>like the Simpsons House, Moze, Tavern, Quickie Mark, Krusty Berger,
<v Speaker 1>the Android's Dungeon and baseball card shops, Springfield Nuclear power
<v Speaker 1>Plant and Burns Manor and all that stuff. Looks really good.
<v Speaker 1>They're going hard on this as well, Like I think
<v Speaker 1>they had at the Simpsons episode that might have aired
<v Speaker 1>last night. I think had an intro that was Fortnite related.
<v Speaker 1>There's commercials for this on television already, and I think it.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know, it looks pretty cool. I'm gonna I'm
<v Speaker 1>gonna install Fortnite on my switch to and play it
<v Speaker 1>on there because I want to see this stuff for myself,
<v Speaker 1>and I also don't think i'll play enough to be
<v Speaker 1>able to justify getting the battle pass.
<v Speaker 2>I'm installing it on my PS three right now.
<v Speaker 1>Oh okay, Well, that you know, seems like the smarter
<v Speaker 1>way to do it.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I'm really curious to see how this game is aged.
<v Speaker 2>How I'm holding up a copy of the Simpsons game.
<v Speaker 2>What's three?
<v Speaker 1>What kind of game is the Simpsons game?
<v Speaker 2>It's a platformer. It's like an action platformer. But the
<v Speaker 2>whole idea is like, Oh, they've been trapped in different
<v Speaker 2>video game worlds and it's basically an extended Simpsons episode
<v Speaker 2>making fun of different video game like archetypes and you know, gimmicks,
<v Speaker 2>and and it's pretty good. I played a bunch of
<v Speaker 2>the PS two version, which apparently I lost the disc
<v Speaker 2>for at some point, so I bought a PS three copy,
<v Speaker 2>and now I'm curious to check that out.
<v Speaker 1>Uh yeah, Fortnite, you know kind of getting really big
<v Speaker 1>makes really big. Yes. Partnering with millennial hits like like
<v Speaker 1>the Simpsons is something that of course works for them
<v Speaker 1>because that's the kind of game player that's spending money
<v Speaker 1>right now.
<v Speaker 2>It does really seem like they went like, yeah, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>we can get like the K Pop de even Hunters
<v Speaker 2>in quickly for the youths or whatever. We're actually going
<v Speaker 2>to spend all money over here.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, exactly, like and and you know, one, it's one
<v Speaker 1>thing to get parents to spend money for their kids stuff,
<v Speaker 1>which I did for the K Pop Demon Hunters. It's
<v Speaker 1>another thing to just get people that that, you know,
<v Speaker 1>my generation, to spend money on stuff that they like
<v Speaker 1>from their youth, and Simpsons is clearly that they do.
<v Speaker 1>You feel like Fortnite's at any risk of running out
<v Speaker 1>of this sort of fertile ground for partnerships. There's still
<v Speaker 1>obviously a ton left, but they have been hitting many
<v Speaker 1>of the big ones at this point, Star Wars and
<v Speaker 1>Simpsons and Marvel and all that stuff, Right.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I think they They definitely at some point are
<v Speaker 2>like we're doing you know, Marvel two point zero. We're
<v Speaker 2>bringing back the Marvel stuff, and that will kind of
<v Speaker 2>whether that still pops off, that will be interesting.
<v Speaker 1>You know.
<v Speaker 2>Once they are like we're bringing one of these seasons
<v Speaker 2>back in a big way, that's kind of when I'm
<v Speaker 2>curious how it will go. But they still have a
<v Speaker 2>bunch of shit that they can pull from. Like, there's
<v Speaker 2>a lot of fucking old people in the world who
<v Speaker 2>love dumb shit, and they love a lot of different
<v Speaker 2>dumb shit, so you know, they can mine a whole
<v Speaker 2>bunch of different stuff. I do want to note, apparently
<v Speaker 2>the current ongoing rumor and leak is that the next
<v Speaker 2>one is Harrie Potter and do that. Yeah, that sucks
<v Speaker 2>so much, Like on top of just being incredibly lame,
<v Speaker 2>fuck that fuck giving that person money. That's gonna that's
<v Speaker 2>so bad. It's gonna be a lot of money. But hey,
<v Speaker 2>that will be an unbearable discourse for another day.
<v Speaker 1>Yep. Oh I look forward to it. Oh absolutely. Uh
<v Speaker 1>it's like in you know, Disney's the one that's got
<v Speaker 1>all that investment into it to epic, It's like you
<v Speaker 1>just keep minding that stuff. But now everyone wants to
<v Speaker 1>work with Fortnite. It really is the McDonald's toy of
<v Speaker 1>the future. So they're gonna keep We're gonna keep just
<v Speaker 1>getting everything in there. I'll look, I'll look forward to it.
<v Speaker 1>When we eventually just get roadblocks in Fortnite, they'll just
<v Speaker 1>all just give up and start working with each other.
<v Speaker 1>All right, let's keep going here. A d ram prisis
<v Speaker 1>sore seventy this year this year, and increases are expected
<v Speaker 1>to continue into twenty twenty six. This is from Alex Hosodact.
<v Speaker 1>That's good.
<v Speaker 2>I don't own a house, I only buy avocado toast.
<v Speaker 2>That's that's good economic.
<v Speaker 1>Or better more, I think this is what we want.
<v Speaker 1>De Ram prices are reaching extraordinary highs, and while this
<v Speaker 1>might be due to mass industry demand, you can be
<v Speaker 1>sure this will be affecting consumers too. Manufacturers are starting
<v Speaker 1>to report inventory shortages as the demand for more memory
<v Speaker 1>from the AI sector continues to increase at a rapid rate.
<v Speaker 1>As reported by Digit Times and corroborated by WCCF Tech, Samsung,
<v Speaker 1>Micron and s Khinis are restructuring production allocations some Samsung
<v Speaker 1>has halted contract pricing for DDR five DRAM, and it's
<v Speaker 1>expected that other companies will follow suit. Prices for DRAM
<v Speaker 1>have risen by a shocking one hundred and seventy two
<v Speaker 1>percent this year alone, and this trend is expected to
<v Speaker 1>continue into next year as demand shows no sign of
<v Speaker 1>slowing down. On consumer sites like Corsair and a Data,
<v Speaker 1>we see prices rising by twenty to forty percent in
<v Speaker 1>the past few weeks alone. If you're selling DRAM, you're
<v Speaker 1>likely seeing your eyes replaced by big dollar signs. But
<v Speaker 1>if you're trying to buy a new PC or upgrade
<v Speaker 1>an old one or let's say spec out a next
<v Speaker 1>gen console. This is just going to cause increased prices.
<v Speaker 1>So d RAM uh is dynamic RAM. It's the stuff
<v Speaker 1>that is you put when you get the sticks and
<v Speaker 1>you put them on your computer. That's d RAM. A
<v Speaker 1>lot of devices come with us, and it's there's faster
<v Speaker 1>versions of it that are in GPUs. That is also uh,
<v Speaker 1>you know limited. Right now, a shortage of these sticks
<v Speaker 1>are out there, of these memory units modules, they are
<v Speaker 1>not necessarily the stuff that is actually being used in AI. Though.
<v Speaker 1>AI is using HVM high bandwidth memory and that's in
<v Speaker 1>some GPUs in the past, but for the most part
<v Speaker 1>we have not seen those in anything from I don't
<v Speaker 1>think in videos ever used it. AMD's put it in
<v Speaker 1>a few of their GPUs. So it's like, okay, well,
<v Speaker 1>AI is going after this other kind of memory. Why
<v Speaker 1>is it affecting g D d R or A D
<v Speaker 1>d R and gd d d R. And it's the
<v Speaker 1>reason for that is because these companies are getting just
<v Speaker 1>way much a lot more money when they focus on
<v Speaker 1>HBM for AI. So that side of the of the
<v Speaker 1>of the equation is just outbidding us as consumers and
<v Speaker 1>so for us to sort of get back in line.
<v Speaker 1>For these companies to care to put any of their
<v Speaker 1>high tech production facilities on making memory that we might
<v Speaker 1>actually use in our devices, they have to increase prices
<v Speaker 1>to justify it to themselves. And that sucks, and it
<v Speaker 1>really isn't It doesn't seem like it's going to change.
<v Speaker 1>AI is just going to keep like they're going to
<v Speaker 1>keep fundling money into that for the until it busts,
<v Speaker 1>until it really does go bust. But for now, the
<v Speaker 1>demand's just going to keep going higher, and it's not
<v Speaker 1>like it was slowing down even if you take AI
<v Speaker 1>out of the equation, Like there's only a handful of
<v Speaker 1>these manufacturers. So yeah, the expensive consoles might get even
<v Speaker 1>more expensive, and they still might have to raise the
<v Speaker 1>prices even further beyond that because they are going to
<v Speaker 1>want to make money on these systems still, and stuff
<v Speaker 1>like memory, which has always been one of the most
<v Speaker 1>expensive components in a system like this, is really going
<v Speaker 1>to gouge into their profit margins. So bad things get worse. FLEXI,
<v Speaker 1>welcome to Gameless Mornings.
<v Speaker 2>Suddenly we're not so smart for making fun of the
<v Speaker 2>Soldier Boy console. Suddenly crawling back to Soldier Boy it.
<v Speaker 1>Turns out that was a deal. Yeah, we didn't even
<v Speaker 1>realize it.
<v Speaker 2>Four hundred and thirty dollars is the cheapest next gen console. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>this fucking blows. Looking at the economics of it really
<v Speaker 2>makes you feel hollow inside the longer you look at it,
<v Speaker 2>because you feel so powerless looking at it. And then
<v Speaker 2>you find out like, oh, this is gonna go really
<v Speaker 2>really bad at some point, and a lot of people
<v Speaker 2>are gonna get hirsh and it's not gonna be any
<v Speaker 2>of the people who spent the money in the first place.
<v Speaker 2>And it's Yeah, it's infuriating looking at this shit and
<v Speaker 2>trying to untangle it. And then when you do start
<v Speaker 2>to entangle it, you're like, somebody should be doing something,
<v Speaker 2>and it turns out somebody is doing something, but they're
<v Speaker 2>doing it for themselves so that they can get rich.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, this feels really fucking bad. And it's going
<v Speaker 2>to applace more people out of this hobby. It's going
<v Speaker 2>to make this hobby more restrictive and hard to get into,
<v Speaker 2>and it's going to lead to less creativity and less
<v Speaker 2>like people playing games and that's just gonna suck.
<v Speaker 1>Yep. Yeah, And it's not like to be clear here,
<v Speaker 1>it's not like Micron or Samsung or s Khinnix. Again,
<v Speaker 1>the companies that produce the RAM, It's not like their
<v Speaker 1>costs have gone up dramatically. They have not gone up
<v Speaker 1>one hundred and seventy two percent. That's not what we're
<v Speaker 1>talking about here. That's not why they're raising prices. The
<v Speaker 1>raising prices just because demand has been increased, and so
<v Speaker 1>they are gonna make a lot of money from this.
<v Speaker 1>They are gonna be They're gonna be doing very well.
<v Speaker 1>Everyone else in the industry, everyone downstream from RAM. Like,
<v Speaker 1>if you need RAM in any way to power your hardware,
<v Speaker 1>you are going to get hurt, and your prices are
<v Speaker 1>going to be higher, and then you are definitely going
<v Speaker 1>to pass that on to the consumers who will be
<v Speaker 1>hurt the most, other than maybe employees, as these companies
<v Speaker 1>try to cut down on labor costs, so actually maybe
<v Speaker 1>they get hurt the most.
<v Speaker 2>It's been it's been a thing I've been thinking about
<v Speaker 2>a lot recently, and I've talked a little bit about
<v Speaker 2>arm bluster, is the economics of being in this business,
<v Speaker 2>like being someone who covers games, as someone who is
<v Speaker 2>kind of on the precipice of expected to know a
<v Speaker 2>lot about the latest releases, but also maybe not on
<v Speaker 2>a whole lot of you know, publishers, code lists and
<v Speaker 2>stuff like that. And when it comes to like the
<v Speaker 2>amount of money that you have to spend to geth
<v Speaker 2>into the business, because pretty much like if I'm recommending
<v Speaker 2>something to a new writer nowadays, I'm like, don't buy
<v Speaker 2>a console, buy get build a PC because getting Steam
<v Speaker 2>codes are so much easier than getting console codes, And
<v Speaker 2>the idea of PCs slowly getting more and more and
<v Speaker 2>more and more expensive, even for base models, is really
<v Speaker 2>fucking bad for like it, like it trickles down, is
<v Speaker 2>what I'm trying to say. You know, it's not just hey,
<v Speaker 2>this thing is more expensive and that sucks. It means
<v Speaker 2>that you're to get less people in the games media,
<v Speaker 2>which means you're going to get less people covering these issues.
<v Speaker 2>You're going to get these companies being held less accountable,
<v Speaker 2>and it all builds up, and yeah, it's it really
<v Speaker 2>sucks right now.
<v Speaker 1>Yep. The barrier to entry is higher than ever. The
<v Speaker 1>ability to put down the ladder is more difficult than ever.
<v Speaker 1>It's and it's by design, you know, like you look
<v Speaker 1>at it and if you move up the economic ladder
<v Speaker 1>and you look at it's like, oh, I see why
<v Speaker 1>these things are the way they are. Because people love
<v Speaker 1>the fact that there are so many poor people below them,
<v Speaker 1>because that makes the money they have feel more worthy of.
<v Speaker 1>It's worth more if there's a lot of people who
<v Speaker 1>don't have it, because you could afford stuff other people can't.
<v Speaker 1>And this is all by design, and they are not
<v Speaker 1>motivated to change it because the people that have the
<v Speaker 1>power and have the money, that citizens united at work
<v Speaker 1>are motivated and incentivized to keep things the way they
<v Speaker 1>are or to exacerbate it. And man, it just keeps
<v Speaker 1>getting worse. So here we are, all right, Nintendo. I
<v Speaker 1>just wanted to clue this story for one comment, but
<v Speaker 1>let's do it. Nintendo wins lawsuit against defiant pirate streamer
<v Speaker 1>every game Guru. This is from Ernesto vander Starr or Vandersar,
<v Speaker 1>i should say, from TorrentFreak dot com. They've been following this. Basically,
<v Speaker 1>this guy was very defiant against Nintendo after he was
<v Speaker 1>caught streaming pirated games early on Twitch. And he's basically like,
<v Speaker 1>you'll never take me alive, Copper, that kind of guy.
<v Speaker 1>And he lost the court case, he owes Nintendo seventeen
<v Speaker 1>five hundred dollars, which after many lawsuits have ended up
<v Speaker 1>with people owing like millions of dollars to Nintendo. Not
<v Speaker 1>so bad. But let's see here, the person who was
<v Speaker 1>going every game guru, who was standing to fine against
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo definitely might have drawn the ire of their legal
<v Speaker 1>team because he posted on Facebook before No what, No,
<v Speaker 1>you might run a corporation. I run the streets that
<v Speaker 1>on Facebook, and I love.
<v Speaker 2>This streets of Nintendo Alley.
<v Speaker 1>I run the streets and then.
<v Speaker 4>Kick Hickman marched my orders, the pied piper of them, Pickman,
<v Speaker 4>and then he went to the courtroom and found out
<v Speaker 4>who runs who runs the courtroom?
<v Speaker 1>But hey, seventeen thousand mined under could been a lot worse. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>to me, it's crazy to be like, I'm going to
<v Speaker 1>stream games that I illegally pirated early and all the
<v Speaker 1>companies to do that For Nintendo, I don't think you
<v Speaker 1>run the streets, sir. You would have maybe have been
<v Speaker 1>a little bit more smart about this. But whatever, Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>loves to sue people. Here we are, they're suing more
<v Speaker 1>people and continuing to win in court. Uh, you keep
<v Speaker 1>Running the Streets though bud uh and then Silent Hill
<v Speaker 1>too for Xbox Series X and S has been rated
<v Speaker 1>by the ESRB. We talked about this possibly happening, being like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>that exclusivity deal with PlayStation is going to end, and
<v Speaker 1>then that game is gonna end up on switch to
<v Speaker 1>and probably Xbox well switch to still probably and uh
<v Speaker 1>Xbox here is confirmed that game did did well. It
<v Speaker 1>probably should do well on these other systems.
<v Speaker 2>Did you play any of it over the Halloween break? No?
<v Speaker 1>This is Soulent Hill to Salent Hill.
<v Speaker 5>Fo sorry yes, sorry, yeah, yeah, Silent f I do
<v Speaker 5>still actually intend to play something I haven't had any time,
<v Speaker 5>but yeah, I've heard enough good things about that one.
<v Speaker 1>I have not played Center Hill Silent Hill to either.
<v Speaker 1>That's when I might actually just pick up I think.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I think you would really enjoy that. That was.
<v Speaker 2>The Silent Hill franchise is one that I've always dipped
<v Speaker 2>in and out of, but I never finished any of
<v Speaker 2>the games because I was mainly playing them, you know,
<v Speaker 2>to emulators, and it's so easy not to finish something
<v Speaker 2>when you started on an emulation and actually having the
<v Speaker 2>remake and being forced to sit down and play through
<v Speaker 2>the whole thing when it came out new that game
<v Speaker 2>is fantastic. So yeah, more people getting to play that
<v Speaker 2>is good and the idea of it like coming to
<v Speaker 2>more platforms. I know, it's weird Konami make video games again.
<v Speaker 2>They just started making video games again.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's it's good to like you know again, Like
<v Speaker 1>we've talked about Catcom sort of setting a path forward
<v Speaker 1>and these other companies following them, and it's working for everybody.
<v Speaker 1>I think. You know, that's a good sign that if
<v Speaker 1>you make games for us, we will spend money on
<v Speaker 1>your games. And that's a deal that I'm happy to
<v Speaker 1>continue living up to our side of the bargain on
<v Speaker 1>if you make games like this and you know it
<v Speaker 1>remakes whatever but new entries in these older franchises and
<v Speaker 1>you put in the effort to do a decent job
<v Speaker 1>at them, and a lot of these games that we're
<v Speaker 1>talking about here from Capcom and Konami are good to great.
<v Speaker 1>You keep delivering that stuff, we will continue to spend
<v Speaker 1>money on them. That it's like a safe investment from
<v Speaker 1>your perspective, Konami and Capcom and all these other companies.
<v Speaker 1>And I'm happy to see like one part of the
<v Speaker 1>industry continuing to work in a way that is predictable
<v Speaker 1>and seems sustainable, and I hope that doesn't change all right,
<v Speaker 1>this one.
<v Speaker 2>It feels weird when things make sense.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, right, when it's just like, oh, here's an easy
<v Speaker 1>to understand business model. Create good product, and good products sell,
<v Speaker 1>and then you can continue to make good products along
<v Speaker 1>that line and maybe even make them bigger and better,
<v Speaker 1>and we will spend more money on them, and your
<v Speaker 1>community and your audience will grow commiserate with the amount
<v Speaker 1>of effort you put into it. And the fact that
<v Speaker 1>you have established these franchises over a long period of
<v Speaker 1>time gives this cachet that you can trade on. And
<v Speaker 1>it's just like, oh, I understand every step of this process.
<v Speaker 1>It's unbelievable that it's working. It feels weird.
<v Speaker 2>You're waiting for the other shoe to drop of, like
<v Speaker 2>and we're actually harvesting your souls.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, we know the other shoe is like if
<v Speaker 1>they have a big prominent failure, they will freak out
<v Speaker 1>and lead and they'll be gone for another ten to
<v Speaker 1>fifteen years. That's it. And it's like, well, you know what,
<v Speaker 1>then just make do what it takes to make the
<v Speaker 1>good game. Hire the right people, take your time. We're
<v Speaker 1>not running out of games. We could be patient on
<v Speaker 1>our side, so as long as they can avoid any
<v Speaker 1>task trophees, I think we're gonna be good.
<v Speaker 2>I don't worry from everything I hear Konami still very
<v Speaker 2>happy to freak out when something unexpected happens with one
<v Speaker 2>of their games.
<v Speaker 1>Weird. All right, that does it for the headlines. Let's
<v Speaker 1>get to let's see here we would have done. I
<v Speaker 1>think at this point the Bomb twelve catch up. I'm
<v Speaker 1>still going to post the Bomb twelve from last week,
<v Speaker 1>even though we didn't have games mornings last week. I'll
<v Speaker 1>get that posted today. Also, we'll get the results on that.
<v Speaker 1>But we do have a new poll question to set
<v Speaker 1>up for Wednesday show. We'll get to that in a
<v Speaker 1>moment Before we do so, though, Lexi, why don't you
<v Speaker 1>tell people where they can find you on the internet
<v Speaker 1>what you have going on and all that good stuff.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, you can find me on Blue Sky at Lexi
<v Speaker 2>or lex Loti XYZ. I have mainly been working on
<v Speaker 2>a bunch of stuff for my website start menu, which
<v Speaker 2>I wanted for trying to help people break into the
<v Speaker 2>games media space. I have been kind of away from
<v Speaker 2>work between traveling to Japan and then having some personal
<v Speaker 2>stuff come up. But I am trying to get out
<v Speaker 2>there and find some more work now. So if you
<v Speaker 2>have any opportunities on reviews, previews, features, anything, let me know.
<v Speaker 2>And yeah, I'm out here, I'm working, I'm doing stuff.
<v Speaker 2>Gob I'm gonna drop some comparison pictures into the chat
<v Speaker 2>of the Soldier Boy flip console.
<v Speaker 1>Please.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, you're gonna love this.
<v Speaker 1>Let's take a look here, it's in the twitch chat. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I just clicked on it. These are these are different
<v Speaker 1>lifting Oh oh I just said Soldier Boy or Soldier
<v Speaker 1>game flip.
<v Speaker 2>Oh boy, hell fully photoshopped onto it.
<v Speaker 1>Oh that price is so much more than the other one.
<v Speaker 1>That's crazy, so much more, oh boy. Okay, Well, and
<v Speaker 1>it really is just the same console. He's not changing
<v Speaker 1>it exactly same. It's just arbitrage selling. And you know what,
<v Speaker 1>good for you, Soldier Boy. All right, Oh man, he's
<v Speaker 1>gonna he's just gonna really be the time I get
<v Speaker 1>have so many angry YouTubers and at this point I
<v Speaker 1>think he knows that and he welcomes it. Okay, new
<v Speaker 1>pole question have you played Our Creators, yes or no?
<v Speaker 1>The game's out now, kind of curious to see what
<v Speaker 1>this audience is doing with that game, seeing if anyone
<v Speaker 1>has any changed opinions on Extractor Shooters at this point.
<v Speaker 1>I'm certainly curious to see how people are feeling about it.
<v Speaker 1>I'm curious to see if I go in there and
<v Speaker 1>be like, oh, I get it now. We'll get the
<v Speaker 1>results of that, talk about it on Game mess Mornings
<v Speaker 1>here on Giant Bomb on Wednesday, speaking a Giant Bomb,
<v Speaker 1>there will probably be some stuff later today. We got
<v Speaker 1>to go to the meeting right after this and figure
<v Speaker 1>out exactly what the content is going to look like.
<v Speaker 1>Jan and Dan are out on assignment, so we do
<v Speaker 1>not think we're not going to be doing Monday Mornings
<v Speaker 1>missed with Mitch today, but we will probably do it
<v Speaker 1>this week. I don't know. Mike usually likes to stay
<v Speaker 1>on that. On top of that, again, we'll figure it
<v Speaker 1>all out this meeting and let you guys know exactly
<v Speaker 1>what's happening with that. You should expect, though, Blake Club
<v Speaker 1>to happen on Wednesday, although that might shift around in
<v Speaker 1>terms of timing, might happen a little bit earlier that day,
<v Speaker 1>maybe right after game mes mornings. Well, the BombCast tomorrow
<v Speaker 1>as usual. Yeah, we're gonna get back into the swing
<v Speaker 1>of things. We also have a bunch of new stuff
<v Speaker 1>we have to work on after the Bomitton because it
<v Speaker 1>went way better than we were expecting. Look forward to
<v Speaker 1>some of that stuff dropping here pretty soon, Pludy. I
<v Speaker 1>recorded a grub Snacks this morning. We're gonna we're bringing
<v Speaker 1>back grub Snacks in a small sort of premium way.
<v Speaker 1>It's gonna be once a week. I'm gonna record something. Likely,
<v Speaker 1>I'll try to get a question from you all and
<v Speaker 1>we'll kind of I'll just riff into the camera for
<v Speaker 1>a little bit talking about it, seeing what I can
<v Speaker 1>figure out, seeing what I know, and sharing that all
<v Speaker 1>with you. We'll try to get those out early in
<v Speaker 1>the week. But uh yeah, look out for that. And
<v Speaker 1>there's plenty more happening soon.
<v Speaker 2>And all right, Rick, shout out to Chuck, who, in
<v Speaker 2>between getting married, is also building a website. I managed
<v Speaker 2>to build a Mario sixty four torment nexus for Dan,
<v Speaker 2>which is a real good cutout if you haven't seen
<v Speaker 2>that section yet, because it was it was at an
<v Speaker 2>odd time for me so I only saw on YouTube
<v Speaker 2>later that Mario sixty four Dance supplies is pretty good.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, it's uh. That was excellent. When he's like he
<v Speaker 1>send that to my discord and I think he had
<v Speaker 1>built it a long time ago, and he's like, I
<v Speaker 1>have this thing. We should use that for the Bambathon,
<v Speaker 1>I was like, yes, one, not wonderful one. So we
<v Speaker 1>had to get Dan out of the room a couple
<v Speaker 1>of times to talk about it, and it worked out
<v Speaker 1>real well. All right, yeah, and yeah, Chuck's doing them
<v Speaker 1>a knowing other things. Shout out to Sean for producing
<v Speaker 1>the show today, and Sean and Chuck were just kind
<v Speaker 1>of picking up all of our slack at the Bambathon.
<v Speaker 1>It was excellent work. I thank you all once again
<v Speaker 1>for supporting us. It has meant the world. All Right,
<v Speaker 1>we're going to get out of here. Lex Lutti, thank
<v Speaker 1>you so much hanging out with me today and talk
<v Speaker 1>about video games. I really appreciate it.
<v Speaker 2>Anytime Globe always a pleasure.
<v Speaker 1>Thank you all for watching and listening. You are the
<v Speaker 1>best audience in gaming. Until next time, have a good one,
<v Speaker 1>take care of yourself and goodbye
