You'll be don't bear, it's the internet. You're busy. Let's do this for August thirty, twenty twenty three. For the next hour or so, let me help you sort through the world of gaming on Game Mess Mornings Live with me Jeff grub Today, we might get a new switch soon and three D Sonic is more timeless than two D Sonic. But first, please join me and welcome me today's co host the Game Mess Mornings. It's Lucy James. Everybody, Lucy, how are you doing? Hi? I have a cald but otherwise I'm okay. You You sound like you're getting better, but I bet it's but it doesn't feel that way. It's just still like kind of Oh yeah, I mean Monday morning in the meeting. You heard how bad it was. Yes, No, I feel much better than I did on Monday. And it's not Corona good, which which is good because I've been testing every day in prep for packs. It's not COVID. It's just a really miserable cold. So I got from games Calm. But honestly, if that's the only thing I got from games Calm, I'll take it. Yeah, I'll take it. Lucy, What do you mean by that isn't like COVID. Okay, COVID all right, I thought we established no COVID And then she like, that's the only thing I brought home, Like what would you like? You're bringing home a dark passenger, Like, what's going on here, dysenterry? I don't know that German dysenterry that hits different? For sure? Does tiny German beers hit different? Let me tell you, Oh that I totally believe. But yeah, game's gone. Was it a good time? It was a really fun time. I have missed games Calm. I haven't been since twenty eighteen. It's good to know that it is exactly the same and I uh yeah, like got to see all the usual suspects for being in time. It was really good to see all the folks of the UK and Europe who we used to kind of like pal around with. But honestly, like it was just a fun show we had. I thought our schedule was pretty light and then it was not. It was really busy, but good to see some really cool stuff. You know, got to see all the like I got to see that stuff and presentation. Good to see it. But the fall our TV show, the biggest highlight for me obviously was Alan Wake two. We went off site, which was even better. We got to we want to go down Sam Lake's Sam Lake? Did you have a lake that you went to that'd be good? At a little lake house? Now, they actually did it in a little theater that was not anywhere near games Calm. They made like posters like in Universe posters of like Alex Casey and Alan Wake's books and stuff, and then they showed all the game playing stuff. I guess pretty recorded demo, but they showed it all on like a big TV screen, a big cinema screen even, and which was a very awesome way to do a preview, and it was very chill. I was looking at my Fantasy Critic League that I do with my community on my discord, and uh I yeah, pick I counter picked Alan Wake two, which means that I was expecting it not to come out this year. This was at the beginning of the year I Wake, So there's no way that is actually going to come out this year, And now it's like the most anticipated game for so many people, and I'm so boned. I'm so sweet. So when you saw that they were delaying it, you were like yes, by ten days. No, no, there's no cheer. Yes, I absolutely, it was just like because there's no money involved or anything like that. But it's so it's just like for bragging rights. Oh yeah, absolutely, and it was just like the Honestly, now it looks like one of the worst picks. It's very frustrating because Mike manah, he has we have two leagues and he's on the other one. He spent all of his almost all of his budget drafting Final Fantasy seven Birth or whatever the second one is, and everyone comes like, that's not coming out till next year. What do you? Looks such a bad move. And now he's like projected to win his league. So it's like it's flipped. He looked like the bone head and now I look like the complete bone head. So oh well, you know what, I'm just gonna play our wig to and enjoy it. That's that's the solution, exactly. Just have a good time with your video games, etcetera, etcetera. One more question. You mentioned that like you're powering around with like old UK friends and stuff like that. Did you do you now in those situations bring that American air of superiority and arrogance to those situations or do you just slide right back into being you know, UK buds? Oh you go by k to being UK buds? Okay, okay immediately, But I did have right, Yes, I did see a couple of people go, uh, what happened to r accent? Don't no comment, no comments, We're sorry you're lucy everybody. Yeah, but also after a few tiny beers, none of that match. Yes, of course. All right, we got a lot to happen in today, so let's explain what we do here most weekdays, I, Jeff Greb, will help piece your gaming life back together. That includes breaking news and maybe even some of our own original reporting. For all these topics, I'll get the input of a bona fide expert who will make me look smart. If you were watching live on twitch, welcome. You can always listen to the show later on podcast feeds by searching for Game Mass Mornings, or find the RSS on GiantBomb dot com. You can also catch the show later with chapters and timestamps on YouTube. Hello YouTube. All right, we have a lot to get into, so let's start the morning mess with a Mario red edition switch oled has seemingly leaked. This comes from Chris Scullion at VGC. Nintendo is set to release an all red version of the switch Old, according to a reliable leaker, deal Labs user Bill bill Con, who has been consistently revealing unannounced products for years, says the product will be called Nintendo switch O led Model Mario Red. Addition, according to the report, the console will have two red Joycons and a red DOC that won't feature any other Mario branding. Of course, the two main models of the switch Oled are a version with two white Joycons and a white and a white DOC, and a version with a Neon blue Joycon and a Neon red Joycon and a black DOC. Bill boo Coon's report claims the Joycons and the docks for the new Mario Red edition will be the same shade as the standard Neon red Joycon. Lucy, this sounds like Nintendo. Hey, we got a big two de Mario game coming out that people are going to buy a lot of we and Mario's big obviously right now, you know it's always been big. But the movie people who are gonna be looking for Mario stuff, Let's do the bare minimum of what we can call something Mario and just paint something not even paint something red. Just take the red paint we already have for the Joycon, paint a dock that color and call it a day. It's uh, we're probably gonna get this at that Nintendo Direct tomorrow. But it's a bit underwhelming, but also it kind of feels like the kind of thing that would happen at the end of us a console generation, right, I mean at this point and I say, this is someone who got a switch oled last week, So I'm I'm really out of the times. Yeah, I got one. Thank you to rock Star. They sent me one for to play Red Dead on because of that whole weirdness where you have to have an old led to play. We call that the mic Manadio effect. Who I think, who we believe is responsible for that. Yes, yeah, so I only just said at my old ed like the other day while I was feeling sick, and I was like, damn, this is so much nicer than the other one than my day one launch switch. Oh, it's very nice compared to that. Yes, that's screen. It's so good. I'm actually kind of yeah, like kicking myself and not kind of going old a little bit. Sooner. But whatever, well, I mean, I don't think that's your fault because that Nintendo. Because it's like the only upgrade was the old ed screen, and it's very easy to be like do I really need all the time? Know? The buttons feel nice on the package, It's like they're the thing that they're selling it on. Like, yes, once you play it, it's like you do feel day difference. It's it's like the opposite of how it normally is with Nintendo stuff. We're like, oh the new three, yes, it's they're like they hype up all the other stuff. You're like, you're gonna love the analog nub that no game ever used, and I was excited about Kan was a fool, But it's like now, but this one, they're like, it's just the old screen. It's like, actually, it's nicer in a lot of other ways as well. But at this point in the life cycle, I feel as well, like just for Nintendo, it's just like screw it, yeah, throw it at the wall, whatever, do whatever, get get rid of these things that we've got lying around. I'm amazing amazed that it's like not as if it is just red. I'm kind of amazed that it's not as made up as the Animal Crossing one. Yeah, the Zelda one or the didn't like Splatoon Hard one and you know, like Original Switch, yes, and so was the Animal Crossing one. But yeah, in terms of the Olett, the Zelda one wasn't Olett, I think. So it's like they have done that a little bit. So yeah, I mean, they know how to make this console look nice when they are doing the branding. I suppose I like the red that they use on the Red Joy Con and I think it probably will look pretty nice. But I definitely wouldn't mind a little bit more Mario branding on there, especially if that's you know, if people are getting it with their Super Mario brothers, wonder that would be cool. But yeah, this is them just kind of doing a little bit of something to have a new system, you know, a new quote quote quote unquote new system for the holiday before we get into the next gen for them, which is going to be coming next year. And so the idea of them not going all out is just not surprising in the least. I guess maybe at this point, you know, of the previous console and portable generations, they were putting out stuff like Gameway micros and and and other like similar things like that, where it's like, oh, they were still making relatively big revisions. They were. They clearly decided not to do that with the Switch, and so this is what we're gonna get. And I mean, I'm very happy with Myolette. I wouldn't upgrade. But if people are coming to the Switch now for real stuff and like this holiday, they're looking to get something like this, or they're looking to finally hop on an old lad, this is going to be a fine option. Yeah, I think so. And I mean as well, I'm kind of I'm not amazed it's Nintendo, but the way that PlayStation and Xbox at this jen are recognized how much people will want to customize, and so you know, it got Xbox with wraps, PlayStation putting out the different shells show whatever the hell you call those shell Yeah, I'm kind of amazed that Nintendo's not really get doubling down on that stuff as much as possible and cutting out the third pie. Yeah, even when they have done that in the past, the three DS or the New three DS and the and the New three DS XL like we only got the XCEL and then Japan, they got the new three DS and it had all those awesome face plates and it's so well, we always miss out on that customization from Nintendo. It's frustrating. Yes, Gabway Micro had a bunch of face plates as well. I think they were swab. I like that a lot, but is it as good? And I've talked about this. I was on kind of funny before. I remember, did anyone else have the Xbox three sixty mass effect armor plate? And it was Commander Shepherd's chest armor and it was an Xbox three sixty cover and it basically like just yeah, it was a mistake. It was a misstake, and they don't make him like that anymore. They do not your your bosomy Xbox Systems or you're going to get that online from I will say it was it was. It was mail chep. What was still I want my Xbox three sixty face plate to be like the George Cooney bat nipples. That's what I need. That's yes, of course, agreed, agreed, all right, Sonic team head things, Sonic Superstars art is art style, excuse me, is future proof. This comes from my Nintendo News Games Radar sat down with Sonic team head Takashi Ayazuki to talk all things Sonic. The Hedgehog are Excuse me now, he's saying, Iazuka, I think it is. Iazuka says that when they looked at the various art styles they could implement in Sonic Superstars, they wanted something that would be future proof. He went on to say that the team didn't believe pixel art would be viable for Superstars, so they went with the current art style, which admittedly also looks good. Iazuka concluded by saying that they are constantly thinking about the future of the beloved Sonic franchise. Regarding both two D and three D Sonic games, who wanted to say when we talk about the brand, we definitely need to have a modern Sonic three D game, Iazuka said. We also feel we need to have classic Sonic two D games. Those are our fundamental pillars that we need to have. We're expanding into movies and TV, but we still need to have both three D and two D lineup for our gaming audience. Last year, we released Sonic Frontiers, and what Sonic Frontiers was doing is taking the open zone concept. Everyone drank because we said open zone to cement that the three D Sonic gameplay as something we can build on for the next ten to twenty years to continue bringing new gameplay experiences to players. It was really the evolution of where the three D Sonic space was going, and we feel very proud in what the team was able to deliver. He went on to talk about pixel art. He says, we look at the pixel art and it's great, but when we think about ten to twenty years in the future, we don't think it's going to be a viable art style or presentation for our players, And in order to advance and really step things up, we did want to make sure that we're presenting something that ten to twenty years down the road we're still evolving and creating new content for Essentially, what I think what he's saying here is that the reason like Super Sonic Superstars is a three D art style base instead of like Sonic Mania, which was pixel art, is that intend to twenty years, the pixel ar it's going to look out dated and the three D art is going to still look more timeless. And I couldn't disagree more. Lucy, I think that's crazy. I don't think that's how that works. Has it ever worked that way, can you think of an example. I can't Okami in terms of a three D art style that is still timeless, but that's because it was heavily Yeah, it's a heavily stylized. It had nothing to do with the PS two tech they were working on. It had everything to do with the auto direction cells shading in that game. And so saying out right, this three D is going to be timeless when two D is not is bizarre because it ultimately doesn't come down to that, It comes down to the direction. Yeah, and I listen, I think Sonic Superstars looks pretty good. It looks that's a pretty good good art style for three D. But I think Sonic Mania in ten to twenty years he is going to look more timeless than Sonic Superstars. Sonic Superstars will look like of its time, because I mean maybe maybe it's just the fact that, like three D art is more than likely going to change over time, and for two D pixel art, we sort of decided decided like, this is what we're going for, this is what we wanted to look like, and if you do more stuff with that, that's fine, But there is kind of an ideal like Sonic Form and it is that that two D sonic style. I wonder if the subtext here is kids like three D more than two D, which I also find it hard art. Again, think they think that kids Maybe maybe they do, yes, may maybe they just think kids don't know what's good. That's definitely true. The kids love trash. That's their motto on this show. You know, the Disney and dream Works and all these companies that make animated films have mostly stopped making two D animated pictures because kids, like kids get excited to go see three D films or you know, three D animated computer films more than two D, and even like, you know, I remember Jeffrey the quippy guy. Now I can't remember his name, Thank you, Katzenberger. Yeah, back he was like Kats, Yes, Jeffrey Katson. Yes. He he left Disney. There was a whole fall out there and we went to dream Works. He's like, listen, yeah, we're gonna work on computer animation, but I'm gonna beat them at two D animation. I think that's still like the Bread and Butter here. And they tried a bunch of stuff. They had prints of Egypt, and they did a handful of other things. And they just did not perform as well as they're as Shrek. And now you see everything dream Works makes is three DS. So I wonder if like Sega's kind of thinking along those lines, and and yes, like that younger audience that we need, that's who we actually care about ten to twenty years from now. And so I like, I'm not gonna sit here and say they shouldn't do this. But at the same time, I just don't agree with this idea that the Sonic Superstars or even Sonic Frontiers is gonna look better in ten to twenty years. That seems wild. All Right, we're gonna take a quick break, everybody. When we get back, we're gonna continue with the news, talk about a little bit of Starfield sweak it in all that right after this. All right, we're back, and we have some news about Starfield's sales so far, it's not even out yet, but Starfield is Steam's top game to the surprise of no one. This is from Andrew Heaton at Destructoid. The amount of out yet and I am exhausted by Oh boy, yes it is getting It's already rough. I'm not I'm so glad that I'm gonna be traveling tomorrow. That's what I'm so glad that I'm going to be on a twenty four hour train. The amount of hype that for Starfield easily rivals the biggest games of this year, which is really saying something. In fact, the anticipation is so enormous that Bethesda's upcoming sci fi RBG is already topping the Steam charts. If you head over to the website, you'll see that at the time of this writing, Starfield is currently at the number two spot on Steam's top sellers. The only thing being in it is Valve's own Steam Decks device, which means the upcoming sci Fi Opus number one in terms of actual games. You know, this puts it ahead of Boulter's Gate three, which is crushing it on Steam still, and we expect that, you know, sales will probably continue as it comes out, But the hype, the anticipation is there, and that I think that explains why there's so much anxiety out there, one way or the other for people who want this game to fail, for people who want this game to succeed, they are losing their minds Lucy, And it's been real dumb this week. It's been done for the past couple of weeks, but this week is really reaching its zenith. I mean, dude, dude. I first of all, let's even begin. Every single fucking take I see about Starfield from whoever is just absolutely ridiculous. I am so exhausted by it. And I've been doing this a long time. Okay, I've been in the industry for over ten years. I've been a game so I'll be ten years next year, and just like, nothing has exhausted me more than the Starfield a discourse and the game isn't even out yet. And the thing is, it's like Mitchell jam You're saying, like, don't read Twitter. That is absolutely correct. However, unfortunately part of my job, and it's just like everyone is Console wars are inherently very very stupid, and this one I don't know why, but the hackles are up about Starfield, and I'm like, I'm even exhausted, you know what, I'm just gonna say it publicly. I'm really exhausted by seeing everyone post like I've got the game and here is when my review will be. And it's like that felt really weird to see everyone kind of doing that about this game, and it's just like no one does that for anything else, Like if you have an embargo to say when you can say the embargo just post it from your outlet. Yeah. I think it's different if your content created and you could say, hey, like I have the game. But like seeing people post it with like pictures of staffield mugs and stuff, that was where I was like, it's weird, weird. Yeah, sure, yeah, definitely. I definitely seen people do that before with the other big games in the last couple of years, and it's it's strange because like the embargo has to be framed in a very specific way to enable that, where like they say, hey, you could say you have the game and you could say when the review review embargo is and they did that here and that's I've only seen that a couple of times before. But it's also from like big companies like Sony that have done that, and but yeah, rarely every time, it is always strange. It's like yeah, yeah, okay, what do we do with this information? But I guess people do want to say when the reviews are coming out? So but you're right post from your own and I get I get the nuance of like, you know, if you're a content creator and you're on the up and up and you're excited about getting a code for a big game. I completely understand and appreciate that, but like that just felt like I just loved those Twitter and every book I was posting the same thing and it was like posted from Igana and game spot on whoever like that is in news beat Yep, it's it. Just it just felt very weird. And then every like you can say shit about this game without PlayStation or Xbox people just getting all up in there, like I don't even want to post what I think about Staffield, Yeah I might. I might just talk about it on podcasts and that's it, Like, yes, definitely, you can conversation. And it's because you can already. I mean, it's already happening. Like the reason it is so frustrating out there is because things will leak or people will say one thing, or people discover something, and you can tell that one side is automatically going into defensive mode and the other side is like, how can I frame this in the worst possible way to make people feel as miserable about this game as possible? And it's like, why are these heathens out here? Trying to either like no one's playing games. They're just out here trying to ruin other people's time playing games one way or the other, and it's it's it's exhausting. And then I mean, and then this kind of mercury, it makes the pool murky for conversation because euro Gamer will be like, hey, we didn't get a code. We have we we got code and they told us we weren't allowed to have it. We had to give it the Digital Foundry, and no one from Digital Foundary could would allow us to play it. And it's like, okay, this is a conversation worth happening. And then then of course that just becomes more weapons in the console wars for these way like obviously this they're afraid of what euro Gamer's going to say about this game, as if it's like one outlet that it's gonna move things one or the other. Once you're Gamer posted like that story saying here's why we don't have it. A couple of hours later, they did get a code, and I fully one hundred percent believe the reason they didn't get the code is a grudge. I think that Potesta is a studio that had that is very good at holding grudges. I don't necessarily know where that comes from. I have my hunches, but they need to get over that. It is twenty twenty three. They need to stop. That is such a bad move these days because like every like, we got so many codes, and everyone else I know got so many codes. Everyone's playing this. So the idea that you're leaving out like one or two people, I think, skill up, right, he didn't get a code, right. Yeah, it's just like these big content creators are big sites getting out like it's like that just looks bad for your studio. No matter what the reasoning is, you shouldn't do it. It's a bad idea. So yeah, we're one day away. By this time tomorrow, we'll be there. We'll be past this and again I'll be traveling and I'm just going to talk about it. We got a quick look going up everybody. That was a fun experience trying to do that and bring it into spoilers that I couldn't avoid and stuff like that. But we're doing our best mixture that's going to be ready and edited in such a way that I won't ruin the game for anybody. But yeah, thats Starfield is like this big thing that's big, big and important and it just feels like people are losing their mind and it's so frustrating and we can move on after this, but like we're at the point where we have so many games coming out, like this is an incredible time to be like interested in video games, to play video games, and it's so sad to me that we can't as community celebrate that and we have to be me and you and not you. But like, the big thing in our community is that we just tear each other down based on something that we don't like, and it is exhausting and pointless and it's just so frustrating. And I think as well, we just haven't had one like Starfield come around in a while in terms of things that have got people really invested in the Console Wars Console Wars as well. Stupid temp for it of course. Yeah, you know, it's just it's just exhausted. And maybe it's because it's eight thirty on a Wednesday and I'm feeling ill. But I've had it. I've had it, Jeff had you losers, get a life, grow on it, and then grow up. The words of one who's sang grow up grow up anyway. Goodbye. Unami's Sweaking in one and two HD remaster have been delayed or has been delay because it's one product. This is from weam Dulan and Nintendo Life. If you were anticipating the return of the gr j RPG Classics Sweaking in one and two this year, you might want to read on. Konami has issued a new notice on sufficial website and via social media about a slight delay Sweaking in one and two HD remaster, gate Rooin and doing in Unification Wars, which is a name that they actually chose to call that thing. We'll require additional development time to deliver the experience fans expect. The aim is now to release the package as soon as possible, and they're going to kind of explain what's going on here. Hey, I think delay in a game like this is like right now, is a great idea, What a wonderful idea. Get out of this, get out of this time zone. I fail. I felt so bad for immortals of Avium. I feel so bad. I mean, see, if Star's got one hundred K in like a day, that's great. Goodbye Volcano High. Like this particular release window between Star of August to the end of the year, absolute Nima. If you're a delay in, that's probably the best bad for you right now. Yeah, there's there's a certain balance where when a lot of games are coming out and people are excited that, I think it can be good for other games because people are like, man, I'm just having so much fun playing games. I want to get my switch out or get my Steam deck out, or get on get on the computer, get on the console and just kind of pop on there and see what's available to play. Well, I wait for the next big thing I'm really excited about. This is like beyond that to the point where it's like, now people are completely strapped for time, so they are making some tough choices about what they're going to play, let alone what they're gonna buy. So yeah, I mean as well, like you can't even say, you can't even say that December is a viable release window anymore because the game Will. I mean, if you want to go in for game Will, it's like, because the cutoff is you've got to be in at least in November. Yeah, November, yes, you don't. You don't stand and then no one remember remember, And like I think even last year. And this is a testament to it is that I can't even remember what game it was. But something came out in like December last year or the efore, and we're like, okay, everyone remember this for game of what's next year? Ye No, I don't like that. It doesn't look like that anymore. Remember, we're like, Cyberpunk came out of December, like that'll be, That'll be for next year's awards, And that didn't worked out for that game. Not as a Cyberpunk defender. That's a good game. I like it. I like it too. I gave it three out of five because I like it. It's a good game, all right. See if Stars sold. That onefore mentioned one hundred thousand copies on release days comes from my Nintendo News. The long awaited Pixel Art Adventures Sea of Stars received some excellent review scores earlier this week, just before the game launched across multiple platforms, with critics critics comparing it to some of the strongest RPG entries in the sixteen bit era. The game finally released yesterday and sales have been tallied and it has already sold one hundred thousand copies across digital marketplaces, including the Nintendo E Shop. Developer Sabotage Studios thanked fans for the success. That's really good, and I expect the game to continue selling. It's probably, but next time we're gonna hear about it will be a couple of weeks, and I bet it's going to be about a million copies sold pretty easily. This feels like one of those games that, especially an indie R JRPG on the Switch. I mean, it's gonna sell well everywhere, but these games sell us special well on the Switch. I think it's gonna just be It's gonna be like the New Hades or the New Golf Story on that system. I think yeah, And I think as well, you know, Kenn of coming out, people are obviously very interested in it. Then Refus came out, tends across the board and yeah, folks in chat saying rightfully, So it's on PS day Pass and it's still selling one hundred thousand, that's awesome, Like good for them, yep, that's uh. And of course that mean that means people a lot of people on those systems are just going to play in the subscription service, but a lot of people are just still choosing to buy it, So yeah, it's all around. That's I mean, that's the ideal scenario is that you have a game that looks pretty good, you can, you get good review scores, you put it in these online services so you get money upfront, and then people discover it that way and they tell their friends, and then people start buying it as well, and it's like everything is hitting for Sea of Stars. So just a good thing for that game and another one that are like I'm eyeing, but I don't know if I'll ever really get around to it this year. I would love to, but I don't know. Have you played it in all? No, Gerard is completionist, is really big into it. He's been singing its praises for a few weeks now, kind of in the FPS chat. I it doesn't I never really grew up with those games, so maybe this is going to be the one that like gets me into it, But I just don't have time right now. Like im I'll be going from I'm still on Boulder's Gate Starfield going into the October craziness. I'm traveling a lot. Also, also A may have downloaded done Alan Wake, Quantum Break and Control. Oh my god, Lucy. I thought you were just going to say Alan Wake no, because I've replayed on the universe, right, you don't have to do this, okay, So right, Uh, Sean Ashmore is back. Ashmore is in Alan Wake too, So first of all, I don't want to throw people under the bus. But in the session that we were in, we saw him pop up on screen and me and Tam were like, oh, he's Jack Joyce Babies back. He's playing character called like Tim Tim Breaker or something breaker. Well well because anyway it's like me and Tim like And then there was like a group Q and a after and no one asked about him, and I was like, are we just gonna ignore the ice man in the rim anyway? Apparently? And I never I never played Quantum Break, so I and also remon' eve been saying like, you don't need to have played any of the other stuff before getting this. And as I was watching the Alam Bake two stuff, I was like, oh, there are so many Easter eggs just in this demo, Like I want to enjoy that, So I am gonna anyway, I put it on the rack. Ally, So that's mostly bad at you because I've been imagining doing the same thing at least with Control and now on Wake. Yeah. I did not enjoy Quantum Break, but I would go back and play some Control for sure. I would like to replay before this, but I'm not Control. So it's a good game. That's how much I love to control. I think about objects of power all the time. What a good concept, What a great all around, like well thought out world that they made there. Uh, Larry And says it's discussing potential Boulder's Gate three DLCs potential, they're discussing potential e these rumors. Is disgusted by Boulder's Gate three DLC. This is from Tom. I've been at VGC. Larry and Studios is discussing the possibility of expanding Balder's Gate three with DLC ex Senior product manager Tom Butler told IGN that the studio is currently focused on releasing the console version of Boulder's Gate three and that it will be occupied with it with patching the base game for the foreseable future. We'll talk about that patch here in a second, however, he said. He also said Larry and is thinking about ways in which it could potentially expand the game, which was released for PC on August third. We'll carry on patching for a while and then we're all going to take a holiday and then we'll figure out what we do x he said. But at the moment, we genuinely have discussions. We want to do more. We don't know what yet. Larry and released the first major Balder's Gate three patch last week, addressing over a thousand bugs and so on. A patch two's coming up again. I'll mention, we'll get to a story about patch two here in a second. What do you want from DLC? Where when do you expect it? I know you're super into Balder's Gate three. It seems to the kind of thing where if they were to drop DLC next holiday, like this game could have another surge of popularity, a lot of people would come back to it. Is that kind of the timeline that you're expecting. Oh yeah, dude, leave me alone. Hilarious, hilarion, Get out of here. I need to finish your game first. I'm still in Act two. I'm like fifty plus hours in. I'm still in Act two. I honestly, the main thing I want from them right now immediately is I wanted to run better. I'm at the kind of apex at the game where performance is definitely suffering, maybe because as well I have I'm switching between handheld and Yeah, it's apparently gets much worse even than Act three. So if you're an act you're probably gonna get probably gonna get even rougher as you go forward. Yeah, So I don't know. I just want them to keep like it's rating fixing on stuff DLC. Why, I don't know. I mean, I don't know where this story goes, so I don't even know where or what I could do with it. Like I mean, okay, let's say that this story wraps up in a very conclusive way, which I have no idea if it does, but let's just say it does. Do you think that they could just do a whole new campaign as DLC. Oh Probably, I mean not to speak for the devs, but not easily. I would love, I would love, genuinely like a mass effect citadel, just like like a like a one shop. Yeah, to use DNT, DND polance, something that doesn't really tie into the main story, but it could still be ideal. Oh my gangs. Ideally, I think that's exactly right, and in a perfect world where they're able to do those with, you know, in an affordable and quick way. I think it'd be really fun if they could do some like themed one shots, like a sort of a holiday themed one that they put out next Christmas and stuff like that, and I think a Halloween one. I think that could be really funny. Obviously it would be more D and D themed, but that could be a very fun thing to do. They probably won't have the resources to pull that off, because I'm sure they're going to do it. Do DLC their biggest prior priority going forward. It's going to be a sequel to this game. I mean, you don't put a game out that cells like this that then you don't follow up with relatively and then in the next four or five years and they're going to get to work on that. So yeah, but I think that the mass effects style is probably the right way, and there's a lot of good examples of that, the Citadel one obviously being the best. Just having the characters to be able to have like a party where like low stakes and everyone kind of getting together and having the characters interact with one another in that way, that could be really fun. Yeah, I mean, someone's going to do it because it doesn't look like by Aware of doing it. Yeah, how are you feeling about that news about what's happening over by Aware? I mean, I don't feel great about it. I was kind of cautiously optimistic about that game to talk about mass effect anyway, kind of cautiously optimistic about it. But like, yeah, it doesn't look good getting rid of all of the old veteran veteran writers. Not a great look. Game has been in development for a very long time. Same with Dragon Age. There's no way, e A, you're recouping those costs at this point. I'm I don't know. I think they're just gonna want to shove it out the door and say goodbye to it. Yeah, that's so I'll say that. I'll start off by saying internally at by Aware, they're still mostly very happy with Dragon Age dread wull. I know, I know all of the news surrounding it is pretty grim. And what I talked about last week with like, you know, the game keeps getting delayed internally and stuff like that. Yeah, that's happening, but that's like normal video games stuff. Like they haven't talked about it publicly for a reason, and so it like they haven't announced a delay. It's just internally they keep moving because they have they've been afforded the opportunity to keep moving it. But they when they talk about like how they feel about the game, they're pretty happy with it. So I like, I want to like give people some hope that like things could turn out well for Dragon Age dread Wolf. That said, you know that studio is definitely feeling the pressure to deliver, and they aren't feeling the pressure to cut costs, which is never a great thing. And the fact that that, I mean, I'm not going to ever get over lucy them. Basically the week or the month that Balder's Gate three comes out and destroys the world, firing the writer of Balder's Gate one or lay enough that that is kind of a crazy thing, and it shows that like, Okay, something went wrong here with eam BioWare right, Yeah, all right. That Balder's Gate three patch is coming soon. It will improve it will improve performance. The big thing that they're going to focus on this comes from Ali Welship Polygon. The second major patch, or balders Gate three, will improve the game performance, particularly in Act three where it often struggles, and it will begin a push to expand on the game's epilog, including freshening out freshening out the endings for the Carlack character, as many fans have requested. That's according to a new community update that that developer Larrying Studios, posted to Steam on Tuesday. The developer wasn't specific about the timing of patch two, but said it was just around the corner. Have you like as you encounter more of these performance problems as you get later in the game, and I don't know, maybe you've encuntered some bugs, Have you like slowed up in hopes for the patch, or you just playing as much as you can whenever you can. I have. I just haven't played for the last week. It just because I've been traveling, right. Yeah. I took my rage Ally too Geminy and back. However, I took a bunch of pills, legal pills, and so I passed out on the flight there and back because I didn't play anything. Sean quick, you get me an audio clip of that, real quick, Legal pills, legal bills. Actually they had controlled substances which I had to get my doctor to prescribe me. So no, I just haven't played in a while, and then I came back and I've been sick, man like I have just I've been I'm in a big movie phase right now watching Oh okay, so I love this. I love movie era, Lucy. I'm getting big on Letterbox as well. I don't know if I'm following you there. I will though, Lucy. This James Games everywhere. I watched The Prestige just before I left. I watched Sunshine last night. I watched Easton Promises the night before. I was going to watch Lady Vengeance, but then I was like, I'm two tied with the Prestige. I was thinking about the yesterday because kind of funny was doing that pizza thing where they're like Roger like boiled down mountain dew and put it on the pizza and it looked like pesto and then crushed up to RINOs and stuff on there, and I was looking at it and all I can think is that scene from the Prestige where the guy's like it's been a very long time since I've seen real magic, and it's like, I'm just completely I'm astonished at what you've accomplished here, Roger McCarney. So Prestige it's definitely want I always think about. But so I don't like foot double. I've just had five people following the letter box. Thank you. People love following up one letterbox. That's that's the real social media. That's where I'm gonna spend all my time when Starfield comes out is letterbox. Yeah, I'm going to review everything on on on the train. You should totally do that. Absolutely. I started watching Tenant the other day because I was at a big Nolan kick, I watched Interstellar. I'm sorry anyone who says Interstellar is a good story. Oh it's not a good story. It's a great stime. No, see you listen, Okay, no one storytelling it really does require you to They say it in Tenant, Uh feel don't think. You gotta feel it. You can't think about it. And that's definitely true for Tenant, but it's also true for Interstellar. Here's here's my recommendation. Actually, everyone's right. If you have kids, Interstellar becomes a great movie. It's it doesn't matter. You don't in a rational way, yes, you know, and I would just I and I was texting people yesterday when I was watching when I was watching Sunshine, and I was like, would you go into space? Would you go into space? You're asking me if I would go into space? I'm asking you, would you go ow in space? Yes? Space is like interstellar, if it's like sunshine, if it's like if I'm okay, I would hozon, I would go into orbit? For sure? Would I go? Would I travel near the speed of light to the point where then the relative time is changing so that I'm anging slower than my children? Almost? Certainly? Not? No, Well it's okay, because you love try and signs time in space. Well listen, I know that absolutely, But I don't know if I could t happened to it. I don't know if I have the bookshelf. I got a keya bookshelf. I don't have the Magical Time bookshelf. So I'm missing some features that he had. Yeah, yeah, I just I just don't understand people who want to go into space. I don't understand it. Why would you want to? You would die up there? You will die up there? Yeah, but we're gonna die down here. Yeah. But like my PC's here, Okay. I thought you were like, there's like trees here and it's nice outside, said and Lucy James but yes, hell, yes, here, these are very good arguments, and you're right. I don't know. I like space travel, I like the idea of it. But yes, Interstellar is kind of a horror film when you start actually thinking about the implication. Music. Music is great. I no, I think the setup for Interstellar is fantastic. I just think he loses it with all the black hole stuff. I definitely felt that way the first time, and then since we watching it a bunch of times, I'm like over it in very much. The emotions do work for me. But yeah, all right, you know what, let's take off the rails here. Uh, last couple of stories here. Excited By sixty four is now available for Switch Online Expansion Pack members. This is from my Nintendo News. You may recall that Less Than We Could Go Nintendo announced the Excite Like sixty four would be arriving on Nintendo Switch Online Plus Expansion Pack on August thirtieth. As usual, the date was actually referring to Japan's time zone, so August thirtieth in Japan would be late on August twenty ninth, in the middle of the night for the western regions, depending on your time zone. It's been out since last night people are playing it. One of my favorite in sixty four games, so it's an all time classic. I think most people are going to try it out and be like, this is weird because it's a bit more simi than you might be expecting. It's still an arcade racer, but they try to simulate a lot of like the power sliding and what you need to do to pull those that stuff off, and if there's kind of a high technical skill ceiling, and I love that stuff. But it's definitely a different game than just like Mario Kart. That said, I'm looking forward to them getting through the other two games they have for Nintendo sixty four Expansion Pack, which is Mario Party three and then ten eighty Snowboarding, and then we'll see what they put out after that. But yeah, excited back sixty four. I would not recommend playing this one on the train. You guys can skip this one. You guys have my permission. You guys can just help Jan play Tears of the Kingdom while he's watching. I was gonna say, we're gonna have multiple screens. I am. I'll be playing Pickman as well. I've got Red Dead Pickman and Baldest Gate and the aforementioned remedy connected universe. I'm sorry whenever someone says they're playing have you ever played a Pickman before? No, but I played Tiny Kin, which I understand is basically it's the platform. It's the platform version of Pickman. Definitely, Pickman four is? Is you kind of a perfect game? I want to over something. Boy was so good. No, everyone has been talking about it, like Mike has been. I've seen you and Mike post about it. Stella over Ign posted that she was playing it on the on the flight back. I'm just like, all right, alright, I'm very it's very very good. It's just got such a good loop and they really nailed it. So I'm very excited about that. Glad to hear it. I'm like, I was like, oh, that's gonna be the game that I'll be very excited about and come game of the year. Won't have a chance. Maybe we get enough people to play it and maybe we'll have a chance. We'll see or maybe you won't like it. We'll see, we'll see. The two on the UK Charts Armored Course six Fires of Rubicon dethroned Mario Kart eight Deluxe. This week. This comes from my Nintendo News. The latest box to video game software charts have come through from the largest video game market in Europe at the United Kingdom. This week's there's a new number one. It's the long awaited Armor Armored Course six Fires of Rubicon, which just just eked out Mario Kart eight Deluxe. That's not true, but Mario Kart eight Deluxe is number two on the chart. It was number one last week, which is just messed up that Mario Kart eight Deluxe was the number one best selling game in the UK at physical retailers last week. But Armor of Course six number one. That game is is absolutely demolishing everything. I finally started playing it, and I get it. It's un't I haven't played it yet, like it's it's really good on the Rodger, runs really good on the ally. Oh okay, I say, I limit the frame rate or the resolution to seven twenty, and I limit the system frame rate to forty five frames per second, and it runs kind of perfect in that in that scenario, it might work at ten eighty, but it works really well at seven twenty. That's all I've tried it at. But I really recommended playing playing it that way because it's I'm like having no issues, it's it's a great way. I've gotten through that first boss, well, the first like tutorial boss, the helicopter. But yeah, it's a beautiful game, and the action is as advertised where people are gay. You're like big mechs moving around fast and doing cool stuff and uh and or if you want them to feel big and lumbering, you're gonna get to that as well. But right now you start off with a mech that can you know, it can fire it's missiles and lock on all that stuff, and then if you can get close enough and do this big sword swipe, it just feels so good. It's a it's and we people go back and forth on this where it's like, oh, it's it's definitely not a so Souls Born game, but when you play it, it's one thousand percent of from software game where there's some like animation priority on things and and underneath everything. Yeah, they made it armor core, but it's with all the lessons learned from recent from software games, and that felt very good. Stop giving me more games, man, I know it's crazy. What are you gonna do? I mean, I'm in my film era pretend that you really gotta just not because they don't. You can't even hear what they're saying in that movie, so you just gotta just it's a vibe. I watched everything with subtitles. Oh yes, I'm also as I as I'm in my not because I'm in my film era, but because I'm also in my PC gaming era. I want to get an o led TV and that's like you do, maybe use that as like your PC monitor? No to replace that because I have a PC plugged in. Okay, okay, ok it's okay, same difference, No, no, januine it. I went to the Nvidio booth at Games Club. Yeah, what they have and they okay, first of all, the Nvidia aut x remix stuff that they made, the Half Life two stuff on unbelievable, the new technical ndia that these these could past few weeks that they' announced that DLSS three point five, I cannot get over it. Well yeah, so we saw that in Alan Wake and in Alan Wake too. I cannot wait till we fucking crush that with these forty nineties. Oh man, that is so exciting. I mean, Ray Tray seems been promised for years. It finally looks like it's delivering on that promise. I'm like, legit into it. It looked so good, and I was like, I have a twenty eighteen TV that like, I need a steak and no lad Man. Yeah, I mean, if you that's that would be my recommendation. If you're plugging it into a PC, get an LG LEAD because that's gonna have all the features that you want. I'm I'm using a Sony uh TV that's pretty good for my PC over there when I've been playing Starfield and it's it's good, but it doesn't it does have any support for any sort of GC like or free Sincy, and you know the old from LG just straight up has g sinc Support and all that stuff, And that would make a huge difference, especially in any game that has any performance issues. So yeah, yeah, god damn it. Yep yep. In a game like anything that's running Ray Tracy, youre probably gonna have variable frame, right, so that would be very helpful. Okay, all right, Well let's get out of our news and out of our film eras and talk about the poll from yesterday. Well, actually, while I get that up, Lucy, what do you have happening. What do you have going on that we want to tell people about? You got any game spot videos going up later this week while you're traveling. Yeah, So, I mean we have all this stuff from games come So Tam and I saw Alan Wake, We did Impressions on that one. We did spot On where we had an interview with Rott Ferguson and Chris from Blizzard about Diablo and how it's actually pretty difficult to fix a live service game. Who knew? And then we are shooting spot On today, so I think we'll get it. We'll probably end up doing a bloody episode about Staffield despite you know, refews don't coming out until tomorrow, but I'll be going up on Friday, and then tonight nine thirty pm, Tam Jam Jams the collective, the three of us, we are gonna we are going to be boarding the amtrack in Emeryville and it's gonna take us like twenty two hours to get up to Seattle. I'm so excited, so jealous. What what that's gotta I mean, just to be able to disconnect for that like continuous hours and like if you want to connect, you still can and do stuff, but like you have an excuse for everything. I'm traveling. I'm on a train. I can only do so much. I'm very yeah, I wanted to make that happen, but man, I'm happy you guys are gonna actually have that. We're going. Uh do you have like any I mean, listen you, I know you just talk about playing some games. Do you have multiple screens? Maybe some movies? Do you have like any other plans about like maybe like live streaming i RL or something like that. I mean, that's I I'm gonna leave that in Jan's hands. He's just posted that he's bringing Jenger, so I'm down. But also I'm train trainer. I'm gonna make Ia. I'm sorry. I'm gonna make Jan play Tears of the Kingdom to save those beautiful locks. But no, I mean, I'm I am genuinely the Kate of person. I must be a nightmare to travel with. Actually, tam Can. Tam Can attests I'm not a nightmare. I just don't like to talk to people. I every time, like every time I go back to the UK, I have to get the train between Newcastle and London, and I will just sit in silence. Even if I'm traveling with someone I'll go no, no, I will see you on the other side. Yeah, Tam. TAM's in twitch chat, he says, luck at him the same. Yeah, we just we could just we just sit in silence until we have to move to our gate or something. I'm just excited to, you know, obviously we'll hang out. There's going to be you know, restaurant and stuff. There's a bar on the train in and whatever. I'm just excited to not really do anything, well obviously be filming a lot of it, and just like chilling out because it's been such a busy couple of weeks, it's going to be a busy couple of months. I'm excited just to trains Like it feels like the end of the year and it's like, no, it's only September now, basically not even we're in August. Still. The thing is as well, like I feel I'm single, no kids, no other commitments really, and so I feel for everyone else who has like sicking for good others and kids and then everything else is going on and finding the time to balance all that. So that is Yeah, she had breakfast this morning, and then ten minutes later she asked for another breakfast. She wanted to. She's playing. Oh, it's good. Okay, she says, it's good. I heard that a little yeah, he had a little list. Yep. She's over there making it happen. She's been playing this NonStop. She's pretty good attitude. She's four years old and figuring out Pickman. It's I think that's impressive. That is awesome. All right. I got the poll from yesterday. Let's uh get yeah, well when was it? Yeah, yesterday, Monday. I don't remember. We'll go try Saints Row and PlayStation Plus. Twenty percent said yes, nine percent said I've already played it. Seventy one percent said no, no, thank you, I'm good. I announcing the price increase with Saints Row. Yep, it's a move. Yep. So that's that's right. We did that, actually did have let's talk. Let's talk about that real quick. That they'll be our last actual news story from Warrior sixty four. PlayStation Plus has increased its prices for twelve months. Essential is now eighty dollars a year, Extra is now one hundred and thirty five dollars a year, and Premium is one hundred and sixty dollars per year. This the details are up on the PlayStation blog. Let's see. I'm as see if there's got if they have the monthly pricing, if that's going up, I don't. I just I just buy yearly whenever I go back back to the UK, because I have a UK account. Annoyingly, all my shit's tied to that to make it difficult to upgrade your account here. You can't change the payment to be my American car. That's annoying. That's very frustrated. Yeah, okay, because I have it's my primary account, so anything I have, I can. My American account is on there. And because the English account is the primary account, I could play whatever on the same machine, which is fine. So my trophies are in the same place. But in terms of payments paying the art, I have to have two Nintendo accounts Xbox though. Steam thank you for making it easy for me. Yeah, an immigrant in a different Steam doesn't care. Absolutely. They will still I had whatever money you've got that you got bitcoin will take bitcoin. They actually don't take bitcoin anymore, but they did for a while, which was weird. It's a little strange. Yeah, okay, yeah, but I don't see any monthly in price increase here. I don't see the Canadian pricing, so pay shout outs to our Canadian friends who are probably gonna playing significantly more than that. The europric scene is yeah, kind of equivalent and stuff like that. It's gonna it's eighty dollars for twelve months of essential and it's a sixty great British pounds. Is that six sixty great British pounce a lot of money. That's nothing great about that anymore. I'm kidding. I'm sorry. I'm allowed to say, yeah, sixty quid for the years. It's actually not two terrible, but I mean I get I have the Premium, which I never use. I only got it because we were doing a bunch of videos on PS Plus and then I think I'm just gonna go back to regular. Maybe maybe the Middle Ones. I've got the game catalogs. The Middle Ones is the sweet spotted it is. It's weird, yes, because the older PlayStation classic games that they put on there just really haven't been worth it for the most part. Okay, New Paul four tomorrow, which I will be doing an episode. I'm traveling later in the day, so I'll have an episode tomorrow. I'm gonna have tom Caswell one. We're gonna go live right after the Starfield and Bargo basically is up, and actually after the Nintendo direct. Oh no, I'm sure this is the show will end, and then the starbott Field and Bargo will go up. So me and Tom we'll talk a little bit about it at that point, but our quick look will be up on all that stuff, so look out for that. In the meantime though, the poll for tomorrow which do you think will look better in ten to twenty years Sonic Mania, Pixel Art or Sonic Superstars three d Art. You can vote now go to YouTube dot com slash Giant Bomb and find it under the community tab there. Okay, Lucy, thank you so much for spending today talking with me about video games. I really appreciate it. Films and films of course, and yes in your film era and everybody, thank you for watching, Thank you for listening. You're the best audience in gaming. Until next time, have a good one, take care of yourself and goodbye.
