Episode 98 - World Eaters pt 2

The 40k Lorecast

On today’s cast we continue our coverage of the World Eaters with a deep dive into the legion post the events on Ghenna. We open with a deeper dive into the butcher’s nails with a focus on their affect on Angron himself. After that we go into Angron in effect purging his own legion of anyone not fully loyal to going ham on the crazy train. This then leads us into the confrontation between Angron and Leman, which results in Angron being sent to the other side of the galaxy to crusade solo, which just allows Khorne to get a better hold on the legion. We then move to Isstvan 3 and 5 and the actions of Angron there. We then close with Angron ascension to Daemon Prince of Khorne.

[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the Forty K-Lorecast.
[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Forty K-Lorecast with me, John Barsati and Brad Jester.
[SPEAKER_00]: On today's cast, we're going to continue our coverage of the world eaters from just before the start of the heresy to just after the start of the heresy.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's actually the world eaters are one of those want to have a ton of stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: really jammed into a small section in a gap and then another section.
[SPEAKER_02]: On more stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: First one of Armageddon.
[SPEAKER_02]: First one of this.
[SPEAKER_00]: I long though, candidly.
[SPEAKER_00]: First one, I actually think I, I'm going to argue and we'll get to it in our next cast after this one.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think the actions of a car in the warp are more interesting and have more detail than the first one of Armageddon.
[SPEAKER_02]: Hundred percent, because we talked about that in our last cast, which is, primarx weren't the movers and shakers because primarx weren't part of the game.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: The chosen of each one was the part of the game.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: As always, the Forty K. Lord cast a weekly show focused in the lore of the Forty K universe releasing every Monday at seven pm eastern time.
[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of you have been doing this incredible thing of following and commenting on Spotify.
[SPEAKER_00]: I cannot thank you enough.
[SPEAKER_00]: It is
[SPEAKER_00]: crushing our algorithm in a good way.
[SPEAKER_00]: We are now the number one ranked forty k podcast globally, which is kind of cool.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's countries we have listeners and we're doing really well.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so I thank you all for doing that.
[SPEAKER_00]: And if you do like the cast, it takes just a second or two.
[SPEAKER_00]: It really does help us a lot.
[SPEAKER_00]: And thank you so much.
[SPEAKER_00]: Additionally, if you want to help us out some more, you can always join our Patreon.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's available.
[SPEAKER_00]: You can link to it in the show notes.
[SPEAKER_00]: It'll give you the show ad free.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's only four dollars and ninety nine cents a month.
[SPEAKER_00]: Or if you're in New Zealand, eight dollars and four in New Zealand.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's just a currency conversion.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not the weird thing GW does when you guys try to buy models down there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Good God, how anyone in the southern hemisphere plays this game is mind-blowing to me for a financial standpoint.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because apparently they send them gold miniatures, because that's the only way I can figure out why they cost so much.
[SPEAKER_00]: It is just like, you guys don't know what I'm talking about going right at you can see people have shown the financial calculation of importing a GW model into Australia and New Zealand.
[SPEAKER_00]: They do the, it's currency conversion plus tip.
[SPEAKER_00]: Additionally, if you like the cast, you like Brad and I, who's a link to our YouTube page, you can come over there.
[SPEAKER_00]: YouTube's got a great spot for us now.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm taking our older cast and we've added video to them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, still imagery, subtitles, so you can see what we were saying.
[SPEAKER_00]: We also have our Q&A sessions that we do with them there, they're recorded, even some streaming games Brad and I have played on.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, we played a game.
[SPEAKER_00]: We played a game plus some others.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was interesting.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was fun.
[SPEAKER_00]: But it was a good time.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was a good time.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was a good time.
[SPEAKER_02]: If anything else, I do want to set up some more of those.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'd really like to see people choose our armies and stuff and do some historical.
[SPEAKER_02]: We could do some battles and whatnot.
[SPEAKER_00]: And not going to thank you play in parallel agents and I'm going to play something good.
[SPEAKER_00]: My God.
[SPEAKER_00]: She's spread let me help you out.
[SPEAKER_00]: If we had our listeners pick your army, they're just going to pick armies.
[SPEAKER_00]: You can't play.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just going to it's going to be all airplanes.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you're so mad just thinking about it.
[SPEAKER_00]: But also over there, we do have our other show, the history of Forty Kay, which is a every fortnight show and focus on the history of the table top game of Forty Kay.
[SPEAKER_00]: We have guests on and we discuss like second edition.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're now the third edition.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's up to think we'll be diving through quite a lot of stuff over there.
[SPEAKER_00]: I just think it's fun as hell.
[SPEAKER_00]: So I hope you guys like it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Lastly, in the show notes, our discord, please join our discord.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's completely free thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: The idea here is to build a community where people can come to ask questions, get help, really interact around the cast.
[SPEAKER_00]: You can see a bright nightbook pretty active in there, but even beyond us, you shouldn't join it for us.
[SPEAKER_00]: You should join it for the community.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because there's so much stuff because we talk about lore, we talk about theories, we talk about literature, we talk about movies.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a little bit of everything, video games, and it's a nice place to get
[SPEAKER_02]: Reference to two people are so quick.
[SPEAKER_02]: We've got so many active people and you're asking a question.
[SPEAKER_02]: You can immediately get.
[SPEAKER_02]: I've seen some stuff answered that was so obscure and I love it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, it is.
[SPEAKER_00]: And because the number one question that we see in there is, hey, I read this.
[SPEAKER_00]: What should I read next?
[SPEAKER_00]: And you don't get just, I mean, you should be Eisenhorn, but you're getting people like you really break now.
[SPEAKER_00]: What is you liked about this?
[SPEAKER_00]: What didn't you like about this real solid advice?
[SPEAKER_00]: So, cannot recommend enough.
[SPEAKER_00]: With that, let's talk about shoving nails in people's heads.
[SPEAKER_02]: Did I have that done this morning?
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it might be a step up from your current migraine level.
[SPEAKER_00]: What if I was put a railroad spike in here?
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, could it also?
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if I'd be any more mad than I am right now.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: Brad has a special place as hard for the butcher's nails because if they just cause migraines, he's like, oh, I know what anger and lives in every day.
[SPEAKER_02]: I also understand the world leaders.
[SPEAKER_02]: Which you can, my first army.
[SPEAKER_02]: But we left on, well, Karen had just been patient zero.
[SPEAKER_02]: And we have crapped on a world leaders with the butcher snails.
[SPEAKER_02]: Angron just kind of popped up after we got told to sleep.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Go to sleep.
[SPEAKER_02]: And he was unbelievably angry, but goes, oh, cool.
[SPEAKER_02]: This horrible thing that I want done is being done.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and let's talk about that horrible thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: I wanted to dive.
[SPEAKER_00]: I want to open this cast, talk about the Butcher's nails, because they really are.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to come up a lot more here.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the nails, the new serians placed in Angron were built for mortal men.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were not built for a primar.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is important because the new serians didn't really care if Angron lived or died to be honest, but the Emperor does.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so once Angron joined at the twelfth legion, the legion's tech marines and apothecaries began inspecting the nails.
[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, Malcolm or the sickleite was actually there as they were looking at it and along with a representative of the mechanicum.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this was for a couple of reasons.
[SPEAKER_00]: One, this is dark age of technology tech.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they wanted to understand it and probably take it.
[SPEAKER_00]: What they found was a huge problem.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, what in Angron is his own problem in this?
[SPEAKER_02]: Because all of the primarks have superhuman healing, and they can't figure out a way to take these out without killing them, basically, effectively.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, what happened with Angron is, so the Brad's is actually Brad's point, all of the primarks are can regenerate to a point, some of them more than others, Vulcan.
[SPEAKER_00]: And as a result, as these nails were in his skull, kind of destroying parts of his brain, his body began to regenerate around them.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they actually effectively bonded with the nails, but not in a good way.
[SPEAKER_00]: This process, the nails actually seem to also be triggered by this.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so as angriots bodies healing around the nails, the nails are digging deeper and deeper and doing more and more damage.
[SPEAKER_00]: Effectively angry.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's just as a clock.
[SPEAKER_00]: He will die.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's how they discover it is that these nails are going to either they won't kill him.
[SPEAKER_00]: They will drive him so insane that he will die effectively in combat.
[SPEAKER_00]: That was what was he will be completely.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he'll be lost.
[SPEAKER_00]: All he will do is fight and he will fight and fight and fight until he dies.
[SPEAKER_00]: That was it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And of course, they told us to the Emperor.
[SPEAKER_00]: Who read?
[SPEAKER_02]: Who read it?
[SPEAKER_02]: It did what he usually did and when I have other stuff to do couldn't you?
[SPEAKER_02]: Delegate this to somebody else?
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, probably, but I've got other stuff to do.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and this next bit actually does get a little bit rep con.
[SPEAKER_00]: So for over a decade plus, we were told that the apothecaries and what have you inspected him on board the ship of the Twelfth Legion.
[SPEAKER_00]: But then there was a book that came out, not like eight years ago, and now like in a two thousand sixteen year or so, where in fact, Angron was taken from that flagship all the way back to Tara,
[SPEAKER_00]: to a dormant.
[SPEAKER_02]: There we go, John.
[SPEAKER_02]: There we go.
[SPEAKER_02]: I was about to say, don't slide over where they took him.
[SPEAKER_00]: They took him to a secret laboratory inside a dormant volcano.
[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, we're a guy petting a white cat to hand some people.
[SPEAKER_02]: We're got him.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because they have to build all their super secret laboratory.
[SPEAKER_02]: It all does.
[SPEAKER_02]: It gets better though, because who's running the lab?
[SPEAKER_00]: a guy named Arkin Land, which is James Badd villain.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's also, by the way, fun side note in Arkin Land.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Land Raider is named after him, and it actually was originally called Lands Raider as in his name in the possessive, but everyone just took the S off.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he doesn't like that, by the way, that his invention, no one gave him full credit for.
[SPEAKER_00]: But that's unimportant.
[SPEAKER_00]: land at this point in this novel does give us a bit more information on the butcher's nails.
[SPEAKER_00]: And what he says is that the butcher's nails are actually a very crude version of something he's already seen.
[SPEAKER_00]: And what he's seen is they were actually originally designed to pacify and control a population.
[SPEAKER_00]: Again, controlling the endorphin release and this way forcing a population into compliance through a positive negative and positive positive reinforcement depending on how you want to release those endorphins.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the butcher's nails that were shoved into anger on are much less complicated.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were actually almost self-sufficient.
[SPEAKER_00]: They would, as we said before, when his adrenaline went up, it really seemed orphans.
[SPEAKER_00]: If there were, no adrenaline, no endorphans, so endless pain.
[SPEAKER_00]: But what was causing more of an issue is that it had actually eaten parts of his brain.
[SPEAKER_00]: There were sections of anger on the brain that were gone.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, and there's no way to regrow them.
[SPEAKER_00]: The butcher's nails are there.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, he tells us to the emperor, and what the emperor says is effectively, well, how much time is he have left?
[SPEAKER_00]: Because Angron is the nails of turning him into an actually a better warrior, and if deployed correctly, Angron could actually aid the war effort, not hamper it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so the Emperor's, I think the Emperor's thought process was always, I'll just kill him when he becomes a problem.
[SPEAKER_00]: But right now, he's not really a problem.
[SPEAKER_02]: That most of the legions were scheduled for exterminators at the end of the Emperor's plan.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's, that's a big debate all the time.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: With it.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what the chaos gods were definitely pitching to.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I'm saying.
[SPEAKER_02]: That's why it's such a big thing.
[SPEAKER_02]: And as soon as you're done fighting, he's got a pool acid ready, just ready for you.
[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly your size.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so it makes sense that the emperor being told that angron is a devolving warrior who is going to cause nothing but problems.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, all right, well, I'll just make sure I don't put him somewhere that you know who's not coming back to terror.
[SPEAKER_00]: That guy.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's on the outer rims going to hit exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: I would just leave him in the bad neighborhoods.
[SPEAKER_00]: So let's get back to Karn.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, Karn, hang Ron and get up.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the end of our last cast, as we said, and Ron had been put to sleep by the librarians because he was having a shouting fit.
[SPEAKER_02]: And he was murdering people.
[SPEAKER_02]: I never had anybody say a shouting fit while he was cutting people's heads off.
[SPEAKER_00]: He was probably also shouting.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just saying.
[SPEAKER_02]: You are technically correct.
[SPEAKER_02]: My bad.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, hundred percent.
[SPEAKER_00]: Technically correct.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like the neighbors banging on the ceiling, keep it down up there, but it's actually a murder happening.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: So back on Ghana, as we said, the world where the rulers were nowhere to be seen, this place had been long ravaged by the warped storms and so they engulfed the world.
[SPEAKER_00]: So these people were actually using sense to run, everyone has their, everyone, everything.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is where the Twelfth Legion of Pothachary Sirlock figured out how to make the Butchers Nails work.
[SPEAKER_00]: At some point, I'm going to explain when, after the world, the world leaders had gone down there and failed and come back, they must have brought some sense with them because Sirlock was able to look at how these sense functioned and realize that's what he was missing as far as placement of the Butchers Nails.
[SPEAKER_00]: And now, thanks to Karen volunteering, he's figured out how to get the Butchers Nails into their skulls.
[SPEAKER_00]: I should also point out butchers nails are external just we will understand when you see any pictures of angron or early pictures of car into them.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's weird because the game they describe it as dreadlocks but they look more like cornrows to me and call it out.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he was like, bring it up because that's why he went and ran wakes up and he's furious and he looks at Karn and he can immediately see the butcher's nails are in Karn's head.
[SPEAKER_00]: So that's just quick note.
[SPEAKER_00]: So you can tell, in my way, you can't hide them for that reason, too.
[SPEAKER_00]: So if anyone else was looking at the legion, they would see, hey, everyone here has things shoved in their skull, apparently.
[SPEAKER_00]: Karn wakes from a slumber as we just said, sees Karn there and there's thousands of these implanted legionnaires already to go.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they all want one thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: They want to go back down to Gena to go do the thirty one hour thing that they failed to do before.
[SPEAKER_00]: Ang runs up for a party.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he joins them.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Ang run in a couple thousand of these.
[SPEAKER_00]: I guess could we call them bizerkers at this point?
[SPEAKER_02]: I was just about to say that I think even though they're not corn bizerkers, they are bizerkers though.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that's probably.
[SPEAKER_00]: But call them.
[SPEAKER_00]: What are you?
[SPEAKER_00]: Bizerkers where they go down.
[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, they check that thirty one hour mark pretty well.
[SPEAKER_00]: They slaughter every single thing on the planet.
[SPEAKER_00]: Every single synth, whatever it is.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they eventually fight all the way to the head of Gena where the actually true genins are living.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they rip apart their life support pods.
[SPEAKER_00]: at which point it's actually corn is there and one of them pleads from mercy with corn who has butchers nails in his head now and you know car doesn't do provide mercy.
[SPEAKER_02]: I just assume that he did the roachack on that one.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he is so they slaughter all of them, but we're not done with get up.
[SPEAKER_02]: When we're quick on this, this is another thing that shows you again how the world leader's operate, though, because remember, they're slaughtering people in pods.
[SPEAKER_02]: These are guys that haven't moved in hundreds.
[SPEAKER_00]: We don't really know that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Could be thousands of years.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: They don't care that these aren't honorable combatants or anything.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're just people that need to be killed.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's how they have always operated, too, though.
[SPEAKER_00]: And just kind of shows you.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of how it allows you to work.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's a really good point.
[SPEAKER_02]: There's no fight here.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, by the way, the level of violence that occurs here, because even though they're since, they're not necessarily fully synthetic human beings, it's still created disturbance in the warp.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the disturbance in the warp was so grand from the slaughter that was occurring.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was so violent.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was so, it's probably more just a piece of corn so much.
[SPEAKER_00]: It actually blocked out the astronomical.
[SPEAKER_00]: There were astronauts who, to not say we could not see anymore.
[SPEAKER_00]: They couldn't communicate.
[SPEAKER_00]: It created almost like a warp storm.
[SPEAKER_00]: There was so much violence occurring over here.
[SPEAKER_00]: But after the battle, Magos, who's the guy we talked about last time, was a centurion who'd stood against Angron when he told them to decimate, has basically had enough.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's up on the ship and they looked down and they watched this.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, this is a big deal in this too, because this is my first big deal.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, count them out.
[SPEAKER_02]: At this point, I think that a corn is starting to really favorably look on anger on corn.
[SPEAKER_02]: One of the biggest things, he's anti-psychered, but he also provides protection against psychic powers.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I feel at this point in time, they go for round two.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that anger on is fortified by corn at this point.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, very much so.
[SPEAKER_00]: And after the battle, Magos goes down to the planet, along with a ton of other world leaders who all were saying, this is wrong.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like you guys, these no butchers nails, none of this stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're not, you're not doing this.
[SPEAKER_00]: And effectively, a mini civil war breaks out on the surface.
[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, and run doesn't take this well, by the way.
[SPEAKER_02]: And again, because he's juiced up by corn, there's no more sleepy night night time for anger out from these.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so these guys, the fight breaks out.
[SPEAKER_00]: It actually does end with Mago's gets actually killed because he had it by calling.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, not angry on and Karn is who Karn's having a party at this point.
[SPEAKER_00]: So at this moment, there, now we've got space marine on space marine murder.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how, but a message gets back to Terra about this.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Terra basically gets notified that they're putting butcher's nails in the heads of space marines, and B, they just had a little fight amongst themselves.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the Emperor is less than pleased, because don't forget, these are his space marines.
[SPEAKER_00]: These are not, you know, Emperor still views everyone here as his.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's the sides to send Lehman Russ to go bring Angron back to Tara to talk to him.
[SPEAKER_00]: And if I had a nickel for every time Lehman Russ was sent to bring a primarck back to Tara and had a fight, I'd have two nickels.
[SPEAKER_00]: Just in a lot of money, but it's weird that I would have two of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Before we dive into this confrontation with Lehman, I do want to spend a quick moment about Engron's overall view point of the other primarx.
[SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't a fan.
[SPEAKER_02]: Mom, it was not giving.
[SPEAKER_02]: Good, Uber is the yellow reviews on primarx, we're not high.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, to be fair, Angron was a really proud individual, and he'd immediately found himself in the back foot when compared to the primar.
[SPEAKER_00]: So first off, he's the only primar who didn't conquer his homeworld, partly because I don't think his homeworld actually existed.
[SPEAKER_00]: I guess technically Alpharius would also fall into that category too, wouldn't it?
[SPEAKER_00]: Because Alpharius never conquered his homeworld.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, he didn't have a homeworld to conquer, really.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so it's okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: So it's two of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: But Angron.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was already conquered.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was in the other zone.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but the difference is Angron's homeworld was not under imperial compliance and never came under imperial compliance because it's in the war.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's in the web way.
[SPEAKER_00]: You really stand on that one?
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't see.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a better story.
[SPEAKER_00]: candidly, if you take the whole story and you make it actually, it was a dark Eldar planet he landed on and the emperor wiped his mind that everyone's mind around him to make him think it was humans that Eldar is around.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a better story.
[SPEAKER_02]: But it makes more sense that he wasn't just getting chumped by idiots, but... Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: That being said, Angron is aware that other legions guys would look down on him, because he had to be rescued, whereas everyone else uplifted themselves.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so he needed to prove that he was better than everybody else, at least in combat.
[SPEAKER_00]: The rest is up to late, but he wants to be the best.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm late.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, not late.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I'm the best logistics have funded.
[SPEAKER_00]: But second off though, for anger, I was equally problematic, because his legion wasn't in very good shape when he took it over.
[SPEAKER_00]: He did actually interestingly, he's one of the only primarks who never had a shadow in other primarks.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think we all know why.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think they all just said no.
[SPEAKER_00]: No.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's like, you know, he'll figure it out.
[SPEAKER_00]: But that's what it was.
[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone else got shadowed and taught.
[SPEAKER_00]: Except for, even Horace was taught by the Emperor, anger and demon spend time with the Emperor.
[SPEAKER_00]: They just said, here's a Twelfth Legion, bye.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so he had to bring these guys up.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this was a fractured Legion that had been separated and now brought back together.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he's not like really in a great spot.
[SPEAKER_00]: While they'd had a lot of like battle for recognition, he had to form them into his own image and his own image was not ideal.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, let's go over a couple things real quick on this, which is one.
[SPEAKER_02]: They had a ton of victories there.
[SPEAKER_02]: They are W's, but they don't pacify things.
[SPEAKER_02]: They don't set things up.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're not fortifying.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're not helping logistics.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're just wrecking stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they weren't really good for the campaign.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're really good to wreck stuff.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they weren't really good.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that also means that they don't have worlds to point to.
[SPEAKER_00]: These are the worlds we brought into compliance.
[SPEAKER_00]: They brought no worlds into compliance.
[SPEAKER_00]: They destroyed them all.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the bigger thing is,
[SPEAKER_02]: Eggrod hates all of this.
[SPEAKER_02]: He hates the other primarx.
[SPEAKER_02]: He hates the Emperor.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: He hates everything that he's doing.
[SPEAKER_00]: He also hates his own legion.
[SPEAKER_00]: That we're at one point early on.
[SPEAKER_00]: Angron, by the way, left.
[SPEAKER_00]: He grabs a fricket and disappeared.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the world leaders couldn't tell anybody.
[SPEAKER_00]: But they spent two years looking for him.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it was, of course, was Karen that found him.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Angron had been, had found a ferro world that was loaded with monsters.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he was fighting waiting for something to kill him.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Karen, of course, yelled at him, and Angron came back.
[SPEAKER_00]: The reason why is, and Brad's is really well in our last cast, that Angron hated himself.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he more than almost he hated anybody else.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he saw in his legion all of his weaknesses.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're hated them.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're hated them.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're like, that's the way he hated them even more because they reminded him of all of his failures because they were, because they were worse than everything he was.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: He hates himself.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're all shittier versions of him.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they also have way, they're all, he feels that they're all cowards.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're all failures.
[SPEAKER_02]: They can't accomplish things.
[SPEAKER_02]: And it's just one of my, they're just shittier years.
[SPEAKER_02]: And a fun house mirror is of me making my life even suckier.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's so angry about all these things.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it doesn't make him that much fun to be around.
[SPEAKER_00]: So then he meets the other primarks and what I assume is mostly video calls.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they all were like, nope.
[SPEAKER_00]: But he hated them too.
[SPEAKER_00]: He saw all of them as weak.
[SPEAKER_00]: He would look at each of them and say, basically, because that's the only world this man has ever known is a world of combat.
[SPEAKER_00]: He looked at all of them and said, I could defeat all of you.
[SPEAKER_00]: You're all weak.
[SPEAKER_00]: All of you have flaws.
[SPEAKER_00]: You are nothing compared to me.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they really didn't like listening to that.
[SPEAKER_00]: So overall, no one really wanted to anger on around, which is fine because anger and also didn't want to be around.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that is important because usually when we're covering these casts, we'll talk about how the primar cad friends.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, full-groom was really good friends with Ferris Manis, till he cut his head off, but also Horace, even more Terian, Magnus, they all had friends.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not anger.
[SPEAKER_00]: And grom with a solo act.
[SPEAKER_00]: back to the world leaders.
[SPEAKER_00]: The history, by the way, we're going to cover here gets a little bit convoluted from timeline.
[SPEAKER_00]: Everything that occurs in the early part of the heresy, the timeline gets a little bit tricky.
[SPEAKER_02]: Just candidly, it's, yeah, the biggest thing is we don't know exactly when.
[SPEAKER_02]: But the world leaders were becoming more and more violent.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they were almost actually acting against the crusade sometimes.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because people would have to come back and do something.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because they never left anything.
[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't fortify anything.
[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't set up anything.
[SPEAKER_02]: They just wrecked worlds and moved on.
[SPEAKER_02]: And they kept getting reports of this.
[SPEAKER_02]: Also none of the other religions wanted to work with the world leaders.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and let's talk about that from it about how bad this was because the stories coming in from the other legions were really hard to ignore.
[SPEAKER_00]: A time and time again, there was barbarism is what they were doing.
[SPEAKER_00]: And this is beyond what the emperor wanted.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're destroying worlds that are meant for colonization.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like it was a full exterminatus.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, they're also, they're making, they're going to worlds that were supposed to be pacified.
[SPEAKER_02]: So they can use the populace to make things for the imperial time and instead, they're just killing everybody.
[SPEAKER_00]: My favorite example, and I think most people say, for example, is Arigata.
[SPEAKER_00]: Arigata is a world that was resisting compliance.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the Emperor said the world leaders and the ultra marines.
[SPEAKER_00]: tactically, really good combo.
[SPEAKER_00]: If you're playing on the table top and you were allowed to bring world leaders and ultra-marines, you're winning that game.
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, less, of course, one of your parties are, I mean, doesn't pay attention to the other side, which is what ends up happening.
[SPEAKER_00]: So at the center of Arragata, as this massive Citadel that was built during the Dark Age of Technology, and it's so powerful that a full orbital bombardment barely puts a dent in the walls.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the Ultramarines pull back into orbit to assess kind of the defenses because it's the Ultramarines.
[SPEAKER_00]: They know they can find a weak spot, but that's investigate.
[SPEAKER_00]: Think it right out and we're going to we'll get through this pretty easily.
[SPEAKER_00]: While they're doing that, the world leaders went yellow swagans freaking leeway Jenkins and went nope.
[SPEAKER_00]: And while the Ultramarines are planning their assault, they get notified that the world leaders have breached the walls.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the way they reach out, they've reached, they've reached, they don't, they, you're right, they're over.
[SPEAKER_00]: They can notify that the world leaders are inside the fortune.
[SPEAKER_00]: That is true.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they look down and they see that the world leaders have built a ramp to get up and over the wall.
[SPEAKER_00]: pretty clever idea.
[SPEAKER_00]: Question is what they build the ramp out of bread?
[SPEAKER_00]: Hands of thousands of courses.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[SPEAKER_00]: The world leaders deployed to the planet and all the people who are not inside the fortress, they killed them, carried their bodies to the wall of the fortress and built a ramp.
[SPEAKER_00]: Who knows how high does we say tens of thousands, it could have been hundreds of thousands, couldn't millions of bodies were piled up
[SPEAKER_00]: and then the world leaders ran up the ramp and jumped into the fortress.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the ultramarines see this and go, oh shit, and they rush down there to join in.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not necessarily on the fray, but let's go secure it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they go to secure a fortress.
[SPEAKER_00]: That is a nightmare zone.
[SPEAKER_02]: The murdered horribly every and again, everyone.
[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't matter if you're a defender or you were Ted that cleans the third floor, you all got killed.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and they pretty brutally do.
[SPEAKER_00]: They decorated the walls.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's that is what the Ultra means.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Ultra means got in there and they found bodies pinned to the walls pieces of bodies.
[SPEAKER_00]: The world leaders didn't just kill everybody.
[SPEAKER_00]: This was, they didn't know what corn was, but this was effectively what corn cultists would do.
[SPEAKER_00]: There is blood, there is gore, there is, it is just, this is evil.
[SPEAKER_00]: Gilliman finds out and freaks out.
[SPEAKER_00]: But as but the thing is the world leaders though,
[SPEAKER_00]: had already gone well, we killed everybody.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's all we came to go.
[SPEAKER_00]: They left system.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Gilliman calls back to the Emperor and you know, the difference is the Gilliman still carried a lot of weight at this point and he's pissed and he tells the Emperor like this is basically just not acceptable.
[SPEAKER_00]: So back to get it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, this is not, we don't really know how this happens so quickly.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the anchron has just killed all of Kenna, had a many civil war.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then in that period of time, the emperor gets a notification and sends Lehman Russ there.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he arrives quickly.
[SPEAKER_00]: So warp travel we talked up before, it shouldn't be this quick.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was going to point that out because we did a cast on work travel and it feels weird that Lehman Ross was able to like basically they got a note.
[SPEAKER_00]: He hopped in a ship with his whole legion and arrived that quickly.
[SPEAKER_00]: But that's the story.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he did.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, they leave and shows up.
[SPEAKER_02]: I love the fact that they make the quote of the blood is still fresh on hang grounds armor when they walk subject.
[SPEAKER_00]: Literally, like, he just finished doing a slaughter and laymen got there in a ten minutes from the other side of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_02]: So, Lehman, I'm assuming, said it very politely, but he says the Emperor has enough of this.
[SPEAKER_02]: Butcher's nails, nope, we're not doing that anymore.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the world leaders, hey, man, stop killing everyone.
[SPEAKER_02]: It sucks for our campaign.
[SPEAKER_02]: And Angra took this very well and said, I can, well, I, a hundred percent.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's one more piece.
[SPEAKER_00]: You, you miss the also says to him.
[SPEAKER_00]: I and my legion are here to escort you, anger on, and your legion back to Tara, where it's an important.
[SPEAKER_00]: They would remove the butcher's nails from your head.
[SPEAKER_02]: Not, I was going to leave that for the end because everything is going kind of whatever until he says this last part.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And then shit goes down.
[SPEAKER_02]: They instantly fight.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if he says they exactly be effectively says we're going to take the butcher's nails out of your head one way or another.
[SPEAKER_00]: And it's anger on immediately realizes that Lee managed to write him to kill him.
[SPEAKER_02]: And I guess I give the whole doc holiday given the quick wink over to really start the fight.
[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like they were at they were standing there at an impasse and then
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just going to talk a little extra shit to make sure this goes down.
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what goes down.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so they do with this.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's solid.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Star Wars who shot, who, the Greedo shot first, no one knows who shot first, but they start shooting and both legions start attacking each other.
[SPEAKER_00]: There are no records, all the records are expunged.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's been on how many died, but it's not a small amount.
[SPEAKER_00]: We are talking two very aggressive legions went right at each other, and the fighting only ends when Angron knocks Leeman Ross to the ground after shattering his own axe in the fight, an axe by the way he'd had since New Syria, and as he's about to kill Leeman, he realizes he's completely surrounded by space wolves who are about to murder him if he takes one more step.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Angron backs up, Leeman stands up, and Leeman turned to Angron, and he looked in and realized there's no redemption.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's nothing this cannot be solved.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he takes it leaves and leaves.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, this is a weird thing on this and the timelines weird on this because there's plenty of time for something to be done about this before the whole events of the Horacee take place now.
[SPEAKER_02]: because Lehman Russ just goes, man, I'm a pretty crazy dude that we all loved to battle.
[SPEAKER_02]: And this guy in all of his legion are, this is, yeah, that's right, but Lehman Russ.
[SPEAKER_02]: These guys are not usable.
[SPEAKER_02]: We can't be part of the, there's no glory, there's no honor, there's no heroic.
[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: Heroism, this is just trash.
[SPEAKER_02]: And he tells the emperor this.
[SPEAKER_02]: And we kind of, we don't know, I don't, between this and they stand at five, you know,
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, let's go into what the emperor does.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's actually, this is interesting.
[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be right back after a quick break.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the emperor decides he's in a bit of a bite.
[SPEAKER_00]: The great crusade is still going.
[SPEAKER_00]: The world leaders have performed the actions impeccably when the actions are murder everything.
[SPEAKER_00]: But the problem is that their actions are now starting to force his hand because the lords of terror, the other primarks, everyone saying this, this legion cannot be like this is horrible.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the emperor does somewhat of a clever move actually.
[SPEAKER_00]: because he realizes anger on is going to die eventually anyway, and just decides to say well I'd still need conquering, but I'm going to move him away to where his problems aren't mine.
[SPEAKER_00]: It sends them to the fringe of the galaxy.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think he sent him to the bad neighborhood.
[SPEAKER_00]: He just went, nope, you can go over there and I don't care what happens.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: He just said, no, over here, it's all Zenos.
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't care what you do with the Zenos.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And just goes and he's waters out there.
[SPEAKER_00]: The problem is that it also means he's far enough out.
[SPEAKER_00]: that the light of the emperor is not quite there.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the world leaders and nobody, no other Legion has this autonomy, none of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: They all are reporting back to terror.
[SPEAKER_00]: The world leaders are basically sent on his request.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, if you come back, cool, if you don't also cool, this puts him far enough out.
[SPEAKER_02]: Also, he's also sent there with not the regular support.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's just him.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's all, it's him and it's completely a world leaders and they're whatever supports that they have all out there.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is a John theory, but this one I'm pretty sure I'm right.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think him being this far out, allowed corn to be much more aggressive.
[SPEAKER_00]: Whereas if you look at the actions of all the chaos gods with Horace and everyone else and grim all the people through this, it was all very subtle things.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's like small insidious.
[SPEAKER_02]: This one was just, I'm jumping ahead.
[SPEAKER_00]: Barn gets fully converted while he's out there.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's, that's, it is the most.
[SPEAKER_00]: Angra is the only part of the Legion who's not officially a part of the chaos.
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he just, he starts, he's the eightfold path at that point in time.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Eight being the number of corn.
[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's yes, I think that he's also outside of the reach of the protection of the Emperor's psychic abilities.
[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's, I think what we're both saying the exact same thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: The Emperor was somewhat shielding the primarx from chaos.
[SPEAKER_00]: Remember, the Emperor when he was conscious could do this, he had, he was powering the astronomical while being like a two thousand light years away or two million light years away from it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe not two million.
[SPEAKER_02]: It's funny because we talk about the Emperor that we'll do another cast on that what he's now.
[SPEAKER_02]: ever before he was put in the golden throne was wildly multitasking powerful things from and just like he was the protecting and that is because he's the fifth cast guy we won't talk about that but
[SPEAKER_00]: But except and that's the point that he's all the way and that that's the more I think he's like he doesn't have that force field over angron or his legion and I and because in your reasons I say this is because they are very corrupted shortly thereafter and the shortly thereafter is horse
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the thing is that this is, I think this went to crap immediately to be honest with you, because they get out there, and they start slaughtering stuff.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the plan I'm doing while the air quotes by the way, is working for the emperor, but it's not because I think the Legion almost instantly, completely sold out to... Yeah, they've even been to, they just sold out to corn.
[SPEAKER_00]: They are killing Zenos, but they're doing it, basically, in corn's name, not the... Not a percent.
[SPEAKER_00]: So moving forward a little bit in the timeline, Horace now has undergone the serpent lodge conversion, and he has to start picking allies.
[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't take him long to pick one.
[SPEAKER_00]: Angron gets a phone call, and I think the phone call is, hey, want to kill the Emperor, and that was kind of the end of the pitch.
[SPEAKER_02]: Couldn't say yes fast enough.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think Angron screamed, and just all the ships started coming right back to where Horace was.
[SPEAKER_00]: literally the hardest part is going to be getting him to, I'm going to wait.
[SPEAKER_00]: I assume he's, I assume the phone call was, hey, what a kill the emperor.
[SPEAKER_00]: And angriots are going towards Tara and horses.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, come, come, come here first.
[SPEAKER_00]: Just come here first.
[SPEAKER_00]: So now we're going to move on to East Von III as one of the first converts in the heresy and round of courses with Horace on the flagship planning out East Von III.
[SPEAKER_00]: And these, by the way.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so by the way,
[SPEAKER_00]: This is another one of those ones that's been repconned because depending on which story you read, there were either half of the world leaders were still loyal to the Emperor.
[SPEAKER_00]: How that was possible, I don't know.
[SPEAKER_00]: Almost none of them were much more.
[SPEAKER_00]: much more likely, but I have to honor the fact that both have been written.
[SPEAKER_00]: So there you go.
[SPEAKER_00]: I just know obviously the ones of Butcher's nails in their head, not team member.
[SPEAKER_02]: In my mind, they're just a straight wearing, like, berserker hats and stuff at this point.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Is that a symbol of corn?
[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's something else.
[SPEAKER_00]: Something else.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, don't mind your business.
[SPEAKER_00]: So
[SPEAKER_00]: The planarist fund was for those who don't know about it, it was to place all of the space marines who their leaders felt wouldn't follow them against the emperor down on his fund, fighting a slanesh rebellion that was barely a rebellion if I'm being honest.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then while they were down there, they were going to bob them from the space with virus bombs, which kills at which hits the atmosphere.
[SPEAKER_00]: turns any organic material into basically methane and then lights it on fire.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the whole planet burns in an instant.
[SPEAKER_00]: Luckily for the loyalists, Salt Harvits, who actually was, and Perth's children.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
[SPEAKER_00]: Salt was the Emperor's children.
[SPEAKER_00]: Found out about it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Took a ship down and warned everybody.
[SPEAKER_00]: So about almost half of the soldiers.
[SPEAKER_02]: Super cool book, by the way.
[SPEAKER_00]: The flight, flight, ice, and things insanely good.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm just saying he just, he does a yellow swag drive maneuver.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: to get outside of the block.
[SPEAKER_02]: It would have, we've done this.
[SPEAKER_00]: We've done this cast.
[SPEAKER_00]: One small ship flew in front of multiple battleships who just didn't shoot at it because it's the Star Wars thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: It was a pod though, by the, there's no life forms in it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Why waste the shot?
[SPEAKER_01]: The bullet shot?
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.
[SPEAKER_00]: So because of this over half of the space marines out on the planet actually survived the initial bombardment and there's some, the problem being there was this kind of clouds that are formed by the virus bomb.
[SPEAKER_00]: Horace looks at this and says, OK, well, everyone down on that planet doesn't have a ship.
[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone not down on that planet does have a ship that has guns on it.
[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll wait for the clouds to clear.
[SPEAKER_00]: And when the clouds clear, we're just going to bomb them into oblivion with regular munitions.
[SPEAKER_00]: Angron heard none of that plan because he was in a drop pot heading down there to kill him one by one along with a bunch of his legions and his whole scene plays out in my head as a horse ordering a bunch of people to reload munitions get ready blah blah blah and then someone saying hey where's Angron and they need to see on the radar screen behind in this blip of a drop pot heading down towards the planet
[SPEAKER_00]: And all the clicks over to Angron and all you hear is this death metal blaring from the inside of a drop pod like we're doing this.
[SPEAKER_00]: But for whatever reason, Angron and his world leaders hit the planet and then just start slaughtering all the space marines there.
[SPEAKER_00]: At which point the other trader Legion's go, well, we got to help.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the deathguard, Nampur's children also fired down and
[SPEAKER_00]: They just start going this giant battle.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's an important thing on card here.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, they're just, I wanted to pull this.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is one of the first times you see the effects of the chosen thing of a good God, anger and slaughtered corn.
[SPEAKER_02]: The people behind anger on actually started fighting faster and stronger.
[SPEAKER_02]: because they're powered by the slaughter, and he's a living icon of chaos, even really, he becomes more of a winning becomes a demon primer, but even now you see the beginnings of this.
[SPEAKER_02]: Also, Carden gets smoked for the first time and first of all, like, what for?
[SPEAKER_00]: It's hard to gauge how many times Karn has died, because I would argue that Angron killed him.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I agree on that.
[SPEAKER_02]: I think that he actually did die.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Karn at this point, I don't think he fully understands that he's a chosen of Karn.
[SPEAKER_00]: I do believe Angron killed him.
[SPEAKER_00]: And when we talked about last time, I think he killed him and he had, and Karne just was kept in power back up and resurrected by corn.
[SPEAKER_00]: It happens again here.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Karne gets enough fight with Garvel Logan.
[SPEAKER_00]: And in the fight, Garvel basically just shoves him right in front of a tank that has doser blades on it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he gets him hailed, and on the other hand, pulled under the tank on this.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's dead in Garville leaves until later when some of the other world leaders walk over and they can't really pull himself off of the dozer blades and gets up really angry by the way really really angry
[SPEAKER_00]: And Karen and everyone around him thinks that, oh, he's just stubborn and super space marine healing.
[SPEAKER_00]: The truth is this is the powers of corn.
[SPEAKER_00]: Corn does not let his champions die.
[SPEAKER_00]: That is, actually all the chaos gods will seem just kind of a dick, but all the chaos gods.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you fail them, you'll let them die, but that's true.
[SPEAKER_00]: But if you are a good champion, they will keep resurrecting you.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so, Karen gets resurrected.
[SPEAKER_02]: So another reason to read the book fights actually really cool.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because the fight school, Garvey also realizes that there's a real chance that Garvey is going to be caught in a tiny little bit since, yeah, no.
[SPEAKER_00]: One of my favorite parts about this is that as the clouds above clear, Horace is kind of like, oh, guys, you've had your fun.
[SPEAKER_00]: Can I just kill them all now?
[SPEAKER_00]: And he radios down and afterwards hurts leaving.
[SPEAKER_00]: But he really is angry.
[SPEAKER_00]: I was like going anywhere.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he has to send more terian hologram over to basically grab Angron and bring him back to the ship.
[SPEAKER_02]: And he was not happy about it.
[SPEAKER_00]: He was not happy about it.
[SPEAKER_00]: But he only went back because he promised him he'd get to kill more in a week or so, which is exactly what happened.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the next thing that occurs is East Von V. And in East Von V, the angron actually is the beat.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because, you know, they told the loyalists, hey, look what angron just did.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Horace, go kill them.
[SPEAKER_00]: And angron is the beat.
[SPEAKER_00]: Loyalists employing the big ones who start hunting down Angron of the Ravenguard.
[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, Corex is really wants to kill him until they realize it's all a trap and Corex and his like band of merry men all like thirty of them have to flee.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, oh, all there was fifty.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, right.
[SPEAKER_00]: Fifty of them flee and
[SPEAKER_00]: This is a kind of a key part for Angron here.
[SPEAKER_00]: Angron in the earliest dark pursuing, and chasing, and chasing, and they eventually corner them.
[SPEAKER_00]: And just before Angron can leap forward to go kill, Corax all them, a Ravenguard ship appears, and Corax and his guys jump and bail, leaving Angron just screaming on the ground, because he was ready to kill this Primark, and it was his chance to show how he's the greatest Primark warrior.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm better than my brothers, I will kill them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I actually don't know if he knew at this point that Fulgram had killed Ferris Manus or not, but I can guarantee if he'd known he'd be even more angry that he'd think of the killer primaries.
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Luckily, Lorgar is about to get involved.
[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, Lorgar and Angron, this one's fun.
[SPEAKER_00]: Lorgar and his word bears were assigned by Horace to go and disrupt the ultramarids.
[SPEAKER_00]: And by disrupt, we mean, keep them to hell over there.
[SPEAKER_02]: I was about to say.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: This is a great plan, because I have to give it the Lord out of this, because this is his plan, making him come in.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because they had ingrown joint, not because he thought he'd be super effective at doing anything to the ultra-marines.
[SPEAKER_02]: He just knew that their rage, hatred, and basically their corn powers would draw the warp power over there.
[SPEAKER_02]: And what they wanted to do was make this a no travel zone for anybody that wasn't cast.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they, they achieved the shit out of it.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that was what this really was was, Lorgar wasn't going over there to defeat the Ultramarine.
[SPEAKER_00]: So there's no way he could have.
[SPEAKER_00]: Even if Lorgar was a better primark, the Ultramarine's with a largest legion, there was no chance.
[SPEAKER_00]: What they were going to do was create a warped arm centralized in Ultramar to just shut Ultramar down.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think they actually they damaged the sun there.
[SPEAKER_00]: But while they're traveling out there, Lordgar realizes something.
[SPEAKER_00]: He realizes that the butcher nails inside of Angron's head are killing him much faster than anyone thought.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like effectively on the trip out to Ultramar, Lordgar realizes Angron's got like weeks left at most.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, he's going into effectively what are seizures.
[SPEAKER_02]: because he's just completely losing control of himself.
[SPEAKER_02]: He just finds himself other places.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's raging out, but he's all sometimes he's doing nothing.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's just gone because the butcher's nails are murdering him and losing a track of his sanity.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Lorgar says something to Angron that is a theme among chaos.
[SPEAKER_00]: He says, the nails are killing you.
[SPEAKER_00]: You are going to die.
[SPEAKER_00]: However, I have a way to make it so you don't die.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not all cure you.
[SPEAKER_00]: I have a way to make it so you don't die.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's telling Angron actually is receptive to this.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he tells him, just come with me and we're going to do this.
[SPEAKER_00]: So the first thing he does is they complete this ritual that he's going to perform.
[SPEAKER_00]: which, to Bradsey's point, wasn't that much about helping Angron?
[SPEAKER_00]: It was just having Angron's work presence nearby while he created the warp storm.
[SPEAKER_00]: It completes the warp from the attorney's to Angron and says, the way we're going to cure you is we need to go back to New Syria.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, Angron, in all of this time, since then, has not returned to New Syria, which again is, because I don't think it's a real place and it's moving.
[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he knows how to get there unless it's on the web way or some part of the warp and Laura Garnell is how to get there.
[SPEAKER_00]: My theory, but whatever.
[SPEAKER_00]: Lorgar and Angron go back to New Syria.
[SPEAKER_00]: And what he's telling him on the trip out there is we're going to find the rulers of New Syria and we're going to force them to explain to us the secrets of these butcher's nails and with that knowledge and the aid of dark mechanical will be able to fix you effectively.
[SPEAKER_00]: But don't worry.
[SPEAKER_00]: But he also says don't worry.
[SPEAKER_00]: As soon as we get the information, you can kill all of them.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Angron's like, all right, I mean, this plan I'm in on.
[SPEAKER_00]: Mostly for the second part.
[SPEAKER_00]: The first part's cute, but I get to kill them all.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: The arrival on New Syria does not go great.
[SPEAKER_00]: It does go great, actually.
[SPEAKER_00]: It goes exactly the plan for Lord Garth.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm being honest.
[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's a hundred percent for Lord Garth.
[SPEAKER_00]: Perfect for Lord Garth.
[SPEAKER_00]: So they land and they land right at the site where Angron was teleported out of.
[SPEAKER_00]: You go on.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we got quantum leap to.
[SPEAKER_02]: For him, his biggest failure.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: And what he discovers is that the bodies of all of his soldiers, brothers, whatever you want to call them, had just been left out in the mountains.
[SPEAKER_00]: Like, no one had been buried, nothing.
[SPEAKER_00]: They're just to bleach in the sun.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the death that's reserved and there's Syria for a failure.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so they've marked effectively, everyone around him is a failure.
[SPEAKER_00]: So he gathers up by the way, some of the corpses and makes a bandalier of skulls that he starts wearing around of his form of brothers, whatever.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then he enters the stuff, whatever.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's got to come up a lot later.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's why I didn't bring that up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Angron then goes down to the local city.
[SPEAKER_00]: And effectively ask what the tells them what happened.
[SPEAKER_00]: Who's in charge?
[SPEAKER_00]: But tell you what happened here.
[SPEAKER_00]: And in the city, they'd give him the story.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the story is that there wasn't uprising out of the capital.
[SPEAKER_00]: They went and hidden in the mountain like cowards.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the rulers of Newsyria showed up.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the leader of the rebels ran away.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then as a result, these guys luckily, and then Newsyria was able to kill them all.
[SPEAKER_00]: Angron doesn't like this version of the story.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not well.
[SPEAKER_00]: So, Angron collects his entire legion and forms them to scour the entire planet, everything on the planet dies.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yep.
[SPEAKER_00]: Now, starting right now.
[SPEAKER_00]: as soon as this begins though, Gilliman shows up and the ultramarines.
[SPEAKER_00]: Because, Angron and Lorgar had just left really messing up McRag.
[SPEAKER_00]: and Gilman's a big fan of McCregn, doesn't like people messing up his McCregn.
[SPEAKER_00]: He and the Ultramarines arrive at Newsyria and begin the assault, at which point they immediately discover fighting world-eaters totally sucks hand-to-hand, so they kind of back it up a little bit and start shooting them from orbit.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's a whole, this book is involved, they end up
[SPEAKER_00]: crashing one of the main ships of the wordbearers.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a whole big thing back and forth.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's well written, go ahead and read it.
[SPEAKER_00]: The important thing is the alterments actually weren't here to go after the world leaders.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were going to do it no matter what, but they're real target was the wordbearers, because the wordbearers were the ones who were who wrecked the correct.
[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they've had them.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, they're enough.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so the issue is that when they came to fight the wordbearers, it was actually the world eaters they had to get through first.
[SPEAKER_00]: The wordbearers interestingly enough are kind of part of the combat, but not really.
[SPEAKER_00]: They are super down.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because the wordbearers are doing a lot of chanting and not a lot of fighting because they are doing
[SPEAKER_02]: At this point in time, I think the largest ritual that at least the Imperian people had ever known.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: They are full on.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're making themselves.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're putting on the ground.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're, they have themselves are making different shapes.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: The ritual.
[SPEAKER_02]: They're doing circles.
[SPEAKER_02]: They have different arcades and symbols.
[SPEAKER_00]: I, I will say it when you read the book.
[SPEAKER_00]: I know what they were trying to do.
[SPEAKER_00]: They were, they were, they were in formation.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, they,
[SPEAKER_00]: doing these rituals.
[SPEAKER_00]: And all I could think of was like, I got half time show at a college foot.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, man.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm a percent of that just playing this.
[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like in this.
[SPEAKER_01]: And Laura and Laura got out of the eyes.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that they formed an arrow when they shot the arrow.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's just that's where my brain went on it.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's again, ever.
[SPEAKER_00]: I always go bad with someone's writing something really serious and I just my brain goes, no, I'm going to be silly now.
[SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
[SPEAKER_02]: It is much as he socks at everything.
[SPEAKER_02]: He is an excellent skimmer and kind of a ritual magic user to be honest with you.
[SPEAKER_02]: If you give him enough time, he will get some shenanigans done.
[SPEAKER_02]: So with that being said, G-Man figures out kind of what's going on.
[SPEAKER_02]: And he runs to where Lord Garry is.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, go up to that mountain side where he's doing the final completion.
[SPEAKER_02]: And he does have a wild ritual circle at the top of this.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And Lord Garfite.
[SPEAKER_00]: I can't kill him in.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: But Bobby, change of the start is beating the boots off him.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's brutal.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is brutal.
[SPEAKER_00]: Bobby G just starts racking him.
[SPEAKER_00]: And as he's about to kill Lord Garf, a very loud noise erupts from behind him.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he just psychotic blood-raged anger on leaps at kill him.
[SPEAKER_00]: and they begin fighting.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the good news is, Gilliman again, can fight.
[SPEAKER_00]: And he's able to fend off this just psychotic rage coming out of Angron.
[SPEAKER_00]: And now, because Angron's viewpoint is, I didn't get the kill Correx.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm killing Gilliman.
[SPEAKER_00]: And Gilliman's on team, no, you're not killing me.
[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm going to kill you, and then I'm going to kill Lord Gar.
[SPEAKER_00]: while they're fighting, apparently neither them noticed that while angron and gillmen are fighting, lorgar is off to the side chanting, not helping by the way, and not helping anybody shape or performing.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, he's about to be heard in quite a bit.
[SPEAKER_02]: I hope he had heard it at the same time, because that's a good point.
[SPEAKER_02]: One of the skulls falls off angrons.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a glancing blow.
[SPEAKER_00]: So while the elements trying to hit him with a sword, it breaks the band a layer of skulls and it falls down.
[SPEAKER_00]: And then, I mean, this is, I like it because the way they write it in the novel is, and then Gilliman takes a step back, and he brushes the skull to dust under his boot.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, man.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's a three meter tall, three hundred kilogram being wearing power armor, stepping on a skull.
[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like it's not going to hold up.
[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, an egg run, an egg run to defense to that.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's not a Lego, you know?
[SPEAKER_02]: So he spinal tapped it.
[SPEAKER_02]: He just went into a berserker rage.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And was just overwhelming Bobby G, but Lordgar was about to reach the end of his ritual.
[SPEAKER_02]: And the sky parts, the sky started raining blood.
[SPEAKER_02]: All of a sudden, yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, all of a sudden, anger on the locked in place.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: And he's just, he's, so also just, he lets out this Pharaoh scream which I love because he feels like he's just about to kill Bobby G. Evan, he can't move.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's probably not, but not only can he not move, every sin you in his body catches his own fire.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly, his own fire.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not literally, but that's his feeling.
[SPEAKER_00]: And at the same time, all the librarians of the world eaters feel something.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they feel the scream and agony of their primarck.
[SPEAKER_00]: They know something is basically trying to pull his soul away from them.
[SPEAKER_00]: And they immediately begin chanting and using their work powers together to kind of channel and deceive him.
[SPEAKER_00]: And what ends up occurring is, Angron's soul is now in the immaterial being pulled between two directions.
[SPEAKER_00]: The material and corn for lack of a better phrase.
[SPEAKER_00]: And the tug of war is all of the librarians of the world leaders versus Lorgar.
[SPEAKER_00]: The problem is in the warp, Lorgar is insanely powerful.
[SPEAKER_00]: And as this one goes back and forth, Lorgar is eventually able to shift and ground soul to corn.
[SPEAKER_00]: Which is interesting, because I don't think Angra never officially gives himself over to Cornwallers.
[SPEAKER_00]: The authoritarian does, Magnus does.
[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone else gives themselves to corn.
[SPEAKER_00]: Angra is given to corn.
[SPEAKER_00]: Unless I read it wrong.
[SPEAKER_02]: No, but it's also that's how corn works.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's taken by corn and I've show a force.
[SPEAKER_02]: Not, not insidiously, not in a deal any of the ways that the other primarks infects of them.
[SPEAKER_02]: He is forced taken by power.
[SPEAKER_02]: Corn is more powerful than me.
[SPEAKER_00]: He has now taken my possession of me.
[SPEAKER_00]: And in this moment, this is where we get modern anger on.
[SPEAKER_00]: Angron's whole body that he was frozen in place.
[SPEAKER_00]: His body, Josh, starts to twist and turn and shift.
[SPEAKER_00]: Wings pop out of the back.
[SPEAKER_00]: He deforms and he becomes this like red dragon, ask demon blood thirster, whatever.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's a combo of a lot of things.
[SPEAKER_00]: He just becomes that standing there in front of Gilman.
[SPEAKER_00]: I might add.
[SPEAKER_02]: Which is actually super good for Gilliman because probably no one demon primers didn't exist.
[SPEAKER_02]: He was already.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is the first one.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: He's also getting the better of him before that happened.
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: So all of this happens.
[SPEAKER_02]: Angron is just went through his soul being ripped out of his body.
[SPEAKER_02]: Also his entire body being in dunked in molten lava.
[SPEAKER_02]: And well,
[SPEAKER_02]: Angra was now going to live from the butcher's nails, but also he no longer is super mad.
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, yes, he is super mad at Bobby J. But he decides that he doesn't need a kill Bobby J. He's got a new target because while his own psychers were trying to save him and I'm doing air quotes because they did a bad job of it.
[SPEAKER_02]: They have been ripping his soul part in a tug of war, which I'm assuming probably sucks a lot of having that a lot of soul damage done.
[SPEAKER_02]: So I can't tell you the effects of how that feel, but it doesn't sound pleasant.
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_02]: Besides everybody that was making me a tug of war doll,
[SPEAKER_02]: on my soul needs to die right now.
[SPEAKER_02]: So he goes also important.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's also important to point out that Angron wants to go kill all the librarians.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is something corn also was.
[SPEAKER_00]: And so it becomes, so this is why it's an odd story.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're thinking about he's standing in front of Gilliman now.
[SPEAKER_00]: two or three times a size he used to be fully infused with corn.
[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't even take one move at Gilmy.
[SPEAKER_00]: He spins around and flies off the O'Kill the librarians because and again, John theory.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's because the librarians are still a threat to him at this point.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think that
[SPEAKER_00]: Even though he'd been given over the librarians could have, he hasn't fully engaged, or ever term you want to have.
[SPEAKER_00]: So Gilliman is a later problem.
[SPEAKER_00]: The my own librarians are a now problem, and he goes off and purges the librarians, which is why world leaders can't have librarians.
[SPEAKER_00]: with your play pro leaders.
[SPEAKER_00]: Nope.
[SPEAKER_02]: Because he killed all of them and he will continue to kill all of them.
[SPEAKER_02]: Bobby G does take the head and say, yeah, this, that's that's messed up.
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go ahead and get out.
[SPEAKER_00]: I need to go.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I got to go think about what he is a planner and you know what a planner does when they first ever encounter a demon, they leave and go make a plan because that's not ideal.
[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, I went through the role of decks of things that I was able to fight against and I went
[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, if this isn't anything in here, yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go ask dad with a new book for sure.
[SPEAKER_00]: But my favorite part of this whole thing is, and run by like slaughter's all the librarians, doesn't say a word at anyone.
[SPEAKER_00]: His whole legion goes back up to his ship.
[SPEAKER_00]: He hasn't said a word.
[SPEAKER_00]: His legion assembles.
[SPEAKER_00]: There is a demon primarque, winged demon in front of all of them, and he looks up.
[SPEAKER_00]: He looks up, just heaving, just monstrous being, and turns the car and says, go down to the hold of our ship where they had slaves.
[SPEAKER_00]: Don't know why.
[SPEAKER_00]: They never explained where they came from, by the way, or what they were doing.
[SPEAKER_00]: There's no backstory on these slaves, just that there are slaves in the midship.
[SPEAKER_00]: He says, go down there.
[SPEAKER_00]: kill all of them and build me a thrown out of their skulls to which Karn goes high five.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, let's do this and head man.
[SPEAKER_02]: I was thinking about doing that anyway.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, this is the best idea ever.
[SPEAKER_00]: Seriously, these two, these guys are peanut butter and jelly or whatever people eat in the front of the world.
[SPEAKER_00]: These two.
[SPEAKER_00]: I got yelled at for that already, so we keep doing it.
[SPEAKER_00]: It's funny.
[SPEAKER_00]: These two are the best buds now.
[SPEAKER_00]: And from there.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're an opposite fish.
[SPEAKER_00]: What happens now is Angron and his legion are going to get to work, but not necessarily in the way everyone else wants them to.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is where we're going to break for next.
[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody wants them to.
[SPEAKER_00]: Next week, we're going to do this.
[SPEAKER_00]: What I'm going to call the side quests that the world leaders go on, but the difference is usually when you give a side quest to get your playing the game and you could do this optional side quest.
[SPEAKER_00]: This is more, I don't feel like playing the game anymore.
[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just going to do side quests.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's what Angron and team do.
[SPEAKER_00]: they go and do their own thing.
[SPEAKER_00]: And that's something that they're going to keep doing up to modern forty.
[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to cover a good amount of that.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to go all the way to modern forty cable and cover a good amount of that, especially, car post invasion post siege of Tara.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: I think you meant to say the betrayer.
[SPEAKER_00]: Not yet, it's when he, yeah, we're gonna come here.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna cover, we're gonna cover Karn earning the monocom of the betrayer.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna cover kind of angrons appearances appearance in the lesion.
[SPEAKER_00]: It just overall, how we got anger on back into the game a little bit of that too, about how he did disappear for a while.
[SPEAKER_00]: He appeared for a little bit and disappeared, but a lot of it, the next one's gonna be about Karn.
[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna spend a lot, those who are world eater fans, what about Karn?
[SPEAKER_00]: Literally, this is, he hasn't done that much up to this point.
[SPEAKER_00]: He's been a, he's a side character up till this point.
[SPEAKER_00]: And much like with Araman, Typhus and a lot of them have a done, their, their glow up happens, post siege of terror, where they basically, they take either a leadership role to the rest of them did, or in Karn, they take on a plot directing role.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's how I would describe it.
[SPEAKER_02]: So a lot directing.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's great.
[SPEAKER_00]: That's great.
[SPEAKER_01]: I do like it.
[SPEAKER_01]: I like it.
[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[SPEAKER_00]: Lot devices the better term, but I like plot direct because what he is, he drives this story hard.
[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, until then, though, this has been John Barsati and Brad Chessner.
[SPEAKER_00]: See you guys next week.
