People don't remember your cute graphics. They remember how you made them feel. Think about the last time you bought something big, right? Something where you really put some skin in the game, where you really spent some bigger dollars. You didn't choose the cheapest or the trendiest, right? I mean, you can do that with your shampoo or, you know, guys, maybe, I don't know, the newest tool for your toolbox or something, but when you want to make a big investment, you chose the person or the brand that you trusted. And that's exactly what your audience will do. They are going to do the same. Tired of showing up online, posting your heart out and still hearing crickets? Are you doing all the right things but wondering why your content isn't converting, your DMs are dry, and your audience isn't buying? You're not alone, and this podcast is exactly for you. Welcome to Social Media Marketing for Small Businesses, where strategy meets soul, and connection, well, that's the secret sauce. Hi, I'm Cheyanne Cleyman, a wife, proud mama of three, former actress and fitness trainer, turned serial entrepreneur and online relationship expert. Over the last decade, I've built my own brands, helped dozens of others grow theirs, and discovered one powerful truth: connection is the real currency. If you're a service-based business or high-ticket brand that wants more leads, trust, and sales from social media without the burnout or fake hype, you're in the right place. Each week, I'm bringing you short, powerful, and packed episodes that feel like a coffee date with a best friend and biz coach all in one. Let's turn your followers into clients and content into connection. This is Social Media Marketing for Small Businesses, and it's about to change how you show up online. Let's dive in, boss. All right, boss, let's zoom out for a second. Social media has gotten, well, loud. Everyone's shouting, everyone's pitching, and everyone's trying to automate everything. And for a lot of small business owners, especially you, especially heart-led ones, it can feel just exhausting. Because you don't want to shout, you don't want to sell out, right? You don't want to chase, you don't want to manipulate or pressure. What you want to do is you want to connect. You want to serve. You want to build something real. And here's the good news: that is exactly how selling works. Huh? Well, don't worry, if you're still wanting to see how I'm connecting the dots here, this is why I made this show today. We are going to dive into why relationship-based marketing works better than funnels alone. We're going to learn the simple human-first system to nurture leads naturally. How to make selling feel enjoyable, not stressful, and last but certainly not least, how to approach this, right? And how this approach creates repeat buyers and referrals, because that's ultimately what you want. Now, this isn't about DMs that feel slimy, right? We've got enough of those. Where probably, right now, if we both went on our phone and looked, we would see a bunch waiting for us. This for us as small business owners that have a heart behind our business, it's about conversations that feel like mentorship, guidance, and support. But there's an intentional way to do it so that you don't burn your ideal clients out, but that you don't burn yourself out, too. So, if you've been craving a more authentic way to grow your business online, you are in the right spot. Let's do this. I think we could all agree, right, that we are living in the most distracted era of, I want to say digital business, but honestly just life, right? People scroll fast. Attention spans are shrinking, and trust is harder to earn. We could say the same about just relationships, your in-person, your human relationships. So that doesn't just magically change when we get behind a screen, right? So what cuts through that noise? Well, it's something that we've had since the dawn of time: relationship. And here's what relationship-based marketing does: it shortens the sales cycle, it increases conversions, it raises lifetime value, and ultimately it builds loyalty and retention. Boom, and those are the ones that really matter. Before we dive into how to do that, right? Sometimes, I feel that one of the best ways to move forward is to take a step back and kind of understand the psychology behind all of this. But don't worry, you don't have to, you know, skip ahead now, because it is really important to know what sometimes the problems are so that we can see them clearly before we paint solutions. So, the problem with traditional lead gen, right? Traditional strategies say, "Hey, just post more, run ads, automate the DMs." I still hear it all the time when I talk to small business owners, when they tell me what they're doing for their lead generation. The problem is automation doesn't care about the nuances, right? Funnels don't understand emotion, and bots ultimately can't build with confidence. I was just experiencing this and feeling this yesterday when I was approaching a coach's DM, someone I'm really connecting with on Instagram, and I could instantly feel the moment that she had her automations on. It just lost the sparkle. And I could tell that the answers weren't genuine, and they weren't really quite hearing me, you know? The answers were pretty okay, like, they were kind of getting me towards where I want, but it all just felt shady, right? So, how do we get over that? Because automations, funnels, bots, they are necessary in today's business. And if anything, I would say, please get some of them, because they're going to buy you a lot more time back and less stress. But we have to also remember that people, our ideal clients, and we, buy with emotion, then justify with logic, which means, ultimately, if they don't feel safe, if they don't feel seen, if they don't feel guided, then they won't buy, no matter how many times that you post. All right, so now that we may understand why that is a bit of a problem, now we can start to figure out how to create the solution, right? How to build your own human-first lead generation pathway. Let's build your simple, repeatable, feel-good lead gen system. There are going to be four stages. All right, let's knock it out. First one, stage one is signal, right? So, this is when someone likes consistently, when they reply to your stories, comment thoughtfully, right? They take the time to actually write something and not just put an emoji. When you see and notice that they're showing up in your stories, like, they're watching your content often. These are warm signals. So, don't ignore them, right? These are the ones you want to track. They are showing you they're warmer than you think. Stage two is conversation. Send a human message. Basically, just meaning don't go into the whole, "Hey, girl, boss, want to buy my thing?" No, no, no, no, no, no, right? No one likes that. Try, "Hey, thanks for engaging. What part spoke to you the most?" Right? Your job here is to listen, not pitch them. So, make sure when you ask a question, it's not generic. It goes deep, and you're really ready to listen and help them feel seen. Stage three, clarity, baby. Clarity. Once you understand their struggle, offer clarity. This is where your expertise can really shine and show off. Try something like, "Yeah, I see this often. It often happens when [blank]. Want to help understand how to fix it?" There, you're supporting, right? You're supporting someone; you're not selling. And speaking of support, that's the stage four, support. Then you're going to pivot. You can simply keep it as just basic as, "Hey, if you want, I can share how we solve this inside my offer." So, then you're not doing any sneaky sales business. You're letting them know it's inside your offer, and it's also permission-based, right, versus pressure-based. So, you're not closing them; you're just opening a path for them to take that next step. So, remember, there's an energy shift that matters here, right? Pushy marketing says, "Buy now or else," right? That's where FOMO comes from, "Fear of Missing Out." And sometimes it works, but often you're going to convert someone probably one time. But human-first marketing says, "Hey, I'm ready when you're here." Desperate marketing says, "I need this sale. I need this sale right now." Confident marketing says, "I can help you when this matters." And clients can feel the difference. And especially if you work in an industry that's very high-touch, if you're a coach, a counselor, an advisor of some sort, a realtor, you're going to attract better, more aligned buyers and ideal clients when your posture is this, when you're calm, confident, curious, and kind. All of those things. And this is why relationship marketing also feels good, right? It feels much better to come at it at this approach and this way, because by doing it this way, you're not chasing strangers, you're guiding people you've already connected with. Let me paint the picture a little bit. I don't know about you, but I am quite the visual learner, so I love to paint the picture. So, when you sell, right, when you sell with relationship, relationship first—this is maybe for some of you are skeptical about what I'm saying—but think about this for a moment: clients stay longer, they refer their friends, and that's what you really want. They buy additional offers, they are easier, right, to upsell to, or people who've already bought from you already, and they talk about you publicly without getting paid for it. You're not just making a sale, in this way, you're growing a community. And funnels, they just can't create loyalty, right? Even the best ones, but relationships can. If your heart is lighting up right now thinking, "Oh my gosh, yes, finally someone speaking my language, this is how I want to sell," then you need to be inside the Turn Conversations into Clients Masterclass. I am breaking down inside there the entire human-first conversion system, the exact language we use in the DMs, and how to follow up without feeling annoying. And basically, the ultimate kicker is how to build this as a weekly rhythm for you that you can repeat and go on with your business. Join the waitlist in the show notes below, and I'll send you early access and bonuses. So, you know, if you've been listening to this podcast for some time, you know I'm all about action, right? I really, really, really want to leave you with some action steps. So, if you're somebody who's like, "Okay, this is all great, but how do I do this? Like, how do I do this on an average everyday week?" Now, I can't set your schedule for you. Each and every one of you that is listening has different open availability hours, right? But if I were you, this would be a really great opportunity to try to just write this simple down and see if it works for you. If we look at an average work week, Monday through Friday, it could go something like this. This is a very easy weekly routine that can really change everything for you. On Monday, engage with your warm leads, the ones that are doing the likes, the clicks, the intentional comments. Tuesday, respond to comments with deeper questions, right? Lead them in, pull them in by engaging and showing them that they matter. Wednesday, move conversations to the DMs. Time to get personal. Take it off just the Facebook feed or the Instagram comments that you've been leaving and take it somewhere more private. On Thursday, open clarity conversations. Remember above where we talked about clarity, asking things in clarity, especially showing yourself as the expert here. And then on Friday, follow up with permission-based language. Look at this, in five days, you've taken maybe a warm lead to a hot lead. This alone will convert more than any trending audio ever will. So, let's put this all into practice. I want to give you a quick action step so that you can move forward and accomplish more in your social and in your lead generation this week than you did last week. Your challenge this week is choose five people. Five people who are following you. And choose the people who are commenting often, replying to your stories, they watch frequently, and they send emoji reactions. Send them a human message. Something just saying, "Thanks for engaging lately. What's been the most helpful for you?" Then, psh, just stop. Listen. Listen to them with intention. This way is going to create conversation, and conversation will create context for you, and context creates clarity, and ultimately that clarity is what's going to bring you and create clients. I want to say thank you guys so much for hanging out with me on Social Media Marketing for Small Businesses. I love bringing to you all this different knowledge I've picked up along the way, and I've worked with clients on.
