But like Brent Rookers said Friend of the Show, he said, you know what, whoever wins, it's okay, Like you don't. It doesn't have to be East Coast bias. It doesn't have to be Aaron Judge fatigue. It can just be whoever wins. Let's look just at what they did because both guys. Whoever becomes an MVP, it's gonna be historical and we need to we need to celebrate it. And Brent Rooker let everybody know he's really good and letting everybody know. And I'm sure he got a lot of hate from Mariners fans, and I'm sure because he's in their division. And I'm sure he got a lot of hate from Yankees fans because he's not on their team.

Speaker 1: Yeah, Yankees fans love to just hate on anyone. Look, I covered both of them this year. I interviewed both of them. Aaron Judge Aaron Boone said, he plays in a different league. He's just that much better offensively than anyone else. He led all of baseball and average opp slugging, ops and war and a lot of the voters. The voters are writers, and what are the writers look at? The writers are going to look at stats. Judges wore nine point seven, Raleigh seven point three. But I think, like heart of heart, I'm with you, guys. Cal is a switch hitting catcher who had a season for the Ages sixty home runs while being behind the plate for almost every single game. I know he DHD some, but he leads that pitching staff, and that pitching staff is why the Mariners are in the postseason, right, It.

Speaker 2: Just doesn't matter. That's a matter of Heidi, because you know, the voters are like, oh, a Rod Wants won the MVP and the last place team, but he had the best stats. Like No, that's where that's where the value of MVP versus best player come into because for me, cal Rawley's MVP because he caught every day nothing against Aaron Judge. I love Aaron Judge. I think he's awesome, great for the game, and one of the best players in baseball, top three player in the game. But this year, one year, Aaron Judge, you can have it again next year, But for this one year, cal Rawly did things that we have never seen. He deserves.

Speaker 1: Yeah, And that's one of the things that you want to stay away from is the voter fatigue with Judge because he is still what he's doing is insane and that's why he's probably gonna win, and he's doing it in big market. But I just think you have to look at the entire position, right. Look, when you look at show Hey, you don't ignore the fact that he's hitting and he's pitching, and that's probably why he's going to win the National League. You can't just just glance over at the fact that he is the quarterback of that team.

Speaker 3: Right, Eric, one hundred percent. And you know what, if you go back and I think we've shifted through the years, like there was years where you know, they went back and created the war for players, and there's a lot of guys that didn't have even close to this war as the top war person who didn't even win MVP. So I think throughout the years will shift and everything will change. But I love that. I love that comparison that he just made Heidi with the fact that show hey incredible DH when he did last year just at DH. Yes, he earned the MVP because it was historic. The fact that he's pitching and hitting now, I don't see how anybody else could win it. The fact that cal Raley has to lead his team. I think he caught one hundred and twelve games this year and he played one hundred and fifty six total. Like the fact that he has to lead his team and be behind the dish and get no days off. DH is not a day off. DH is a day to just not catch, but he has to do it essentially on both sides of the ball, and it's taking nothing away from judges' outfield. Before his elbow got hurt, He's one of the best right fielders in the game, best arm, accurate, all that stuff. When he got hurt, he essentially gave some of his defense up, the same thing that happened to Cal. It would not have been like Cal couldn't have played behind a dish hurt, so he would have had a just DH and we wouldn't even be having this conversation, right.

Now, you take either one of those guys off their teams, they're not making the postseason, so they're obviously both very valuable. But you take the catcher that has guided that staff from the time that every single one of those guys came up, and you take him off the team. The Mariners aren't winning their first division title since two thousand and one. And Jose Ramirez the third guy in this debate. And Jose's like the bridesmaid, right, He like always the bridesmaid, never the bride. He's in the MVP conversation every years.

I think he'd be like, h whatever, MVP, it doesn't really matter. He loves being in everybody's wedding. He's the dude nothing is expected of and he's just he's there for the party, He's there for the for the Guardians. He keeps signing his extensions to stay with the Guardians, like, but he is, he's legitimately. I have to look at I thought he had something like six top ten finishes and MVP in his career already, like, and he just keeps he could be a forty forty guy. I think it will take a down year from other guys for him to finally win it and for him to get exactly to his forty forty without the last game of the season being canceled. Yeah.

The Padres have announced through a letter that the Seidler family is exploring their strategic options, which could result in the sale of part or all of the team. The announcement comes one day shi of exactly two years after Peter Seidler died. Peter Sidler was the heartbeat of this organization and the team so badly wanted to win the World so he's even go to the World Series for him. But it's been a tumultuous time with the ownership group since he died. I mean, he was the Padres. He's the reason that they had the Padres and we've heard a lot, We've heard a lot around the team recently, so they're going to evaluate the process and the Padres it looks like might be up for sale. Guys, what's your reaction to that?

Speaker 2: Aja, Okay, if they're not going to spend the way Peter Syler did, then yeah, sell the team. That's that's my reaction. That's totally my reactions. Peter Siler wanted the team to win. He wanted to bring a championship to San Diego.

But if the rest of the family doesn't want to do what he did and sell the team, because somebody else will do it and the Padres are bowling Hidi. I don't know when the last time you took Apple TV to San Diego, because last time I was there, I saw Apple TV, but it was the other crew. They sell out every game. The whole area is unbelievable. They got people up in the high rises, you got people at the gas loom, you got everybody wearing Padres here because it's the only team in town. They are behind this team. If you're not going to try and compete and spend money and do it right, then sell the team and move on and get your two billion, and someone else will take over and try.

Speaker 3: For this. I applaud him for saying, you know what we want to get out, not you know what, this is making us a lot of money. We'll just kind of do whatever we do and keep the money and keep the keep the team rolling. Hopefully it gets in an ownership group that wants to win a World Series for the city of San Diego just as bad as the late Peter Seiler did because he built that he built this team, He allowed the spending to go ham because he wanted to win a World Series. That is all we ever ask, all we ever ask of any owner is do whatever you could possibly do in your time as owner to win a World Series because your fans will forever be behind you. And look at what the Padre fans have done. Ever since twenty nineteen, when Fernando Tatist made his debut opening series of the year, that place has just continually gone up and up in in attendance, in popularity. They are the place to be for eighty one nights. And I think if you are looking to buy a team, why would you not want to buy this team? Why would you not want to continue the trend of a sold out stadium Because that is where your revenue is, That's where your local revenue is. I get it's TV too, but to me, if the Seidler family says, you know what, we don't want to be involved in this anymore, good for them. Time to get out. They'll get someone else in that wants to continue what Peter had been doing.

That's the only professional sports team in town, and that place is packed, and then they built the gas lamp around it, and it's got that beautiful stadium. They've got a dynamic roster tactiss in Jackson Merrill and Manny Machado, And I mean the rivalry with the Dodgers has become insane, one of the best in the sport right now. I mean that is it's it's rare to see a franchise decide that they're going to even explore selling a team when the franchise is doing so well. But I think you're right, Aja, and that that's the best way to honor Peter Seidler is if you don't have the heart in it, if you don't if you're not going to put the resources in it, that Peter did, or if whatever is going behind this going on behind the scenes with the family and with Peter's widow and the brothers, if whatever's going on is just too much and it's it's going to hurt the franchise, then yeah, explore selling it and let someone else take that the franchise that has become one of the better franchises in the sport with a roster loaded with talent, and take them into the future.

Speaker 1: Paul Skeens was named the cy Young Award winner, second pitcher to win the award the year after he was named the NL Rookie of the Year. That's duplicating Dwig Gooden's feed for the Mets in eighty four and eighty five and Frnanda Veltinzuela, of course, in eighty one won the MVP and the cy Young that year. Skeens though, the interesting thing about him and here you go unanimous. Speaker 3: I think that's fair. But I think Pittsburgh can look not too far to the north in Detroit and see that a team can win with a legit starting pitcher, and really they're not. You're not asking the Pirates to put to put Wan Soto in, Sho Heo Tani and Kyle Tucker all around him. You're just looking to surround Paul Skeens. And you know what, that starting rotation is pretty legit. And at the end of the season, I think they were like the sixth best defensive team. So maybe the Pirates aren't that far And maybe Paul Skeens is saying this just to say the right things because he was trained really well by his agent, by some media people, whatever it is. But you know what, if you're somewhere, you might as well want to win while you're there, and you might as well try to push other people around you, not just your not just your fellow players, maybe the front office, maybe ownership. You know, last year at the at the awards ceremony, when we had Paul Schemes on the show, Bob Nutting showed up, so he showed up so he knows that Paul is pitching really well for his team. Maybe this is Paul saying, you know what, I'll keep doing this for you. I get it. You might not resign me, but don't make me spend four years in purgatory here. Don't make me. Don't make me win another cy Young at ten to ten. Like I've had his historical start to my career, maybe you need to start doing something too. And maybe that's maybe, hopefully that's what some of these comments, which are not salacious at all, spurse something like get some kind of fire or spark or something for the Pirates front office.

I think it's one of the worst stats of all time because you could suck your way right up into a good catcher's vra if you're good at and I know some people that I played with that were good at it.
