Mmmm, two thousand and fifteen rolled around in your head a little bit chew
on it. Two thousand and fifteen. Twenty fifteen. We're in it,
we're living it. It's the future. We're here. Welcome back, Welcome
to it, Welcome to the future. Huh man, she's exciting. Machine,
the future, all three of them. It's a theme for this year.
Yeah, Welcome to the future, man machine, the Future, the
Future, the Fusion, the Fusion. I thought it was the fusion,
you know, like, oh, okay, Riles, I thought it was
future. It's welcome, Welcome to fututure, Man machine, the Fusion.
Yes, light years ahead, I think, and I can't be right.
Oh god, is that light years ahead of evil? Oh? I never
got that yet. That's pretty good. That's pretty good. Twenty fifteen is
shaping up to be an exciting year full of revelations. That's right. It's
the final year. That's why we're at revelations. Welcome to the giant bomb
cast in twenty and fifteen. I'm Brad Shoemaker. Jeff Kersman. No,
do you have powaw? Uh? Can you go on water? Yeah?
I mean was that a Yeah? I can do that? All right.
I've already. I've already metal helmet. I've already burned through our weekly allotment
of Back to the Future two jokes. Yeah, they didn't increase it for
twenty fifteen, which is weird. You would have thought that would have.
But yeah, here we are, here, we are scandling. Hey still
bearded. Yeah, still standing at the end of the table. Got this
coffee that tastes like burned popcorn. You drink coffee? I do? Now,
wait what I've been drinking? Maybe we should? Oh my god,
I got hooked on it in Nam. What was happening you guys? What?
Yeah, actual statement, It isn't actual true. State of the things
people have gotten hooked on in Vietnam, coffee is probably one of the more
insidious but less lethal options. Yeah. I always avoided coffee and strong caffeinated
things because they didn't want to become like dependent on them, right. I
didn't want to be one of those guys that rolled around and it's oh it's
three pm, I am tired, I am bad at my job. But
you know what that happened anyway, So getting old. Yeah, so I'm
just I'm gonna embrace the coffee. I like coffee. I actually just went
on Amazon and bought a whole bunch of Christmas gifts for myself. Nice.
It was not Search. It was coffee peripherals, like flavored coffee, because
it's all flavored. Now do you get like flavors? I haven't gotten the
beans yet, so if Search has coffee beans, you're getting beans. You're
grinding at yourself. Yeah. I got a grinder, not a manual one
because I'm not Will Smith. What no, Yeah, then you know,
like some weird upside down clear tube. It was a coffee bonga blade grinder
or a burg grinder blade. I told I told Will Thanksgiving. I told
Will that we were in the market for a better coffee pot, just like
a drip coffee maker, right, ye, like like we have a twenty
dollars one from Walgreen. Yeah yeah. I was like, yeah, we're
looking for something that's you know, a little better, maybe a little less
bitter. And the ones he recommended me were in the two to three hundred
dollars range, so I haven't haven't quite committed to any of those. It
was like fifteen bucks. Yeah, and then I got I didn't want to
have to deal with like you can buy it already browned. Man, I
know, but I don't know. I kind of I kind of like the
little taste here, Yeah, a little ritual to it. Yeah, coffee.
I like coffee because not only does it have the most caffeine, but
it's got no calories, so you can drink as much as you want and
you should. Yeah for your teeth though, isn't it. Dan Reicher,
Oh hey, hello, how's it going. You survived with heartland? I
did it. I did another trip back and visiting family members directly afterwards.
I can I can hear it and the flu. Yeah, voice a survivors.
I heard your voice this morning and I was like, he can get
sick. Oh yeah, yeah, he's not some weird superhuman anomaly that is
immune to a city. If it bleeds, we can kill it. It's
true. It's like it's like what is mortal. It's once a year,
usually right around New Year's I get the flu and that's pretty much it for
the extra annual tradition. He really is. It's like after systems, going
through New Year's, I'm usually pretty sick. Watch the twilights on marathon on
Sci Fi. Thing get drastically ill. I got, I got good news
for you. What's that now? You don't need a flu shot this year?
That's right. I heard you already had it. I heard the flu
shots this year. I didn't work that well though, because the flu virus
mutated and they didn't properly predict the strains. Yes, I would have got
it anyway, it was less effectively evolving. That's that's Jason A Striker.
Heyeah, they're going, Brad, how are you doing? I'm doing pretty
good man. Happy New Year. Yeah, you as well. Got the
entire San Francisco crew up here in the studio right now here, we be
uh hanging out, true true, true, hanging out talking about stuff.
Yeah, when we talk about on this podcast. I think it has been
it might have been five weeks since I did a podcast in this room.
I know you guys. Yeah, we did one that we did ended up
not using. Yeah, what happened, So I did the thing where you
don't. I didn't save all project when we started, so dumped all the
temp files in the temp file directory, and then when I opened up to
try to initiate automated recovery, the whole thing took a ship and could only
reassemble the first thirty seven minutes. So what happened to begin with Audacity crash?
Yes, it just locked up or something. Did you know that Adobe
Audition has been installed on this computer the entire time. It is a far
more robust, it's a better recording solution. O my god, Oh my
god. This is this is a version of Windows that doesn't even have a
searchable start menu. Yes, this computer here, this is not our gear.
We use it and it's when we we were appreciative of the ability to
use it. Yes, because there are a lot of rackmount of compressors and
a lot of cool stuff in here. But I guess the surface, the
control surface they have here does not necessarily work with the newer versions of Windows.
So they've got what is that do? Is that XP? I believe?
So are you talking about this TriCaster control surface? No? No,
this mixer mixer here? Okay, apparently that was the thing that just prevented
them from upgrade. Why they were still on XP is that the big expensive
surface does not work. Browser has not had its history flushed and some time
either It's some fun auto completes that can be had a lot of people tend
to leave their uh you know, their Gmail and or drop Box logged in
on this machine regular basis. Yeah, it's pretty crazy, a lot of
people in and out of the studio. Yeah, so I have a bunch
of six second files that I could reassemble into thirty seven minutes of audio manually
if I wanted to, but that's that's not something I really want to muck
around with. Might be what do command line style? Yeah, you could
cat them all, but I think it'll introduce some static because the files are
not pure anyway. Anyway, right at the end of it, like three
hours, like three and a half hours, it was pretty good. We
were wrapping up in it. It was it was a real fucking bummer.
Wow, it was a real fucking bummer. So then Rory and I ended
up sitting and so that was you know, that was Dan's last day in
the office, so he was taking off. These guys were working on video
stuff, so they were not available. So Rory and I kind of just
did like we were already thinking about trying to do some kind of live stream
for our last day in the office, so we rolled into part of that
a most of the same emails that we took uh and some other stuff kind
of did a live podcast. Yeah, I enjoyed. I enjoyed your live
ad production, which, oh yeah, for the people that I were asking
in the chat, that's not how we do ads here normally that was yours
was a little more off the cuff. Yeah no, but but they are
one take. Oh yeah, yeah, don't no mistake. That's not multiple
Like you're like, oh no, that one's not good. No, No,
the ads are one take. Well, we did we we did this
week. We did them all up front. Yeah, yeah, we do
them before the show. All the ads for this week already done. Yeah,
as of right now. And boy they're great. Oh yeah, top
shelf material. That's right, number one ads. I watched that stream,
Yeah, at my parents' house, sitting in front of a fire. You
did. Since it was four pm there, I decided to time to start
drinking. What could call the mood lighting? What's that? What do you
think of the mood lighting? Turn off the main lights and just yeah,
what was it? I guess I didn't think about it at the time,
but I guess you're right. Lasting impression apparent secus. You're right. It
was a little more moody, wasn't it done? That for a couple.
Okay, Yeah, it was fun. It was a good time. Little
a little more intimates. Yeah, all right, well it's a new year.
Who had a good holiday. I want to hear about a holiday.
We've got five people at holidays in this room, and for the next two
hours, you're going to sit here and put them in a ranked list.
Oh, I can go a term in our holiday of the year. I
just want to you know, I said my piece about my holiday. I
doesn't need to be on the list. I just wanted to know, just
just I just wanted to be. It's an honor for your holiday experience to
be nominated. Yeah, and that's fine. Can I put mine on then
take it off? Uh sure, but we'll get to you. Let's just
go around the table, Jeff. The destiny of holidays. No, I
got with some family, laid low. We we kind of we hold up
in the house and didn't didn't do that much. It sounds good, kind
of did some straighten it up, some kind of just the end of season
inventory cleaning type stuff that was there was long overdue. Made some coffee,
went shopping, did some stuff. All things you do on an extended break.
Yeah, exactly, and uh yeah, just that was that was good.
Got a got a tree. Had to dispose of a tree, a
live tree? Oh yeah, those are painting in the ass, you know
what would water it? Well, what am I going to get? Like
a fake one? And then well so the needles off the tree were not
that big of a deal. But the tree skirt we got, uh,
is covered in gold. Glitter came off so that it's Yeah, there's a
big pile of glitter where the tree was now, so went to vacuum that
up. Glitter on tree skirts, glitter on hats, glitter on greeting cards.
It's all the worst, but skin is the only but it's the only
place where it's appropriate. Yes, I could probably get behind that. Yeah,
yeah, so that was cool. We got a tree, put presence
under to open the presence as you do. Yeah, that's some stuff.
Watched some television, you know. I just kind of just kind of hung
around right through Baying at A two and one in that order? Did you
play the wu Virgin of Bean at two Verba at one? Rather? Yeah?
Uh, how was that? I So I only played the space Harrier
part, and that that part you don't really realize it at the time because
you're so excited that they made such an extended homage to Space Harrier with a
slight bit of afterburner thrown in. But that sequence goes on way too fucking
long. It's rediculous. Holy shit, Like does it just stop being fun
at a certain point. Yeah, you're like, I get it, it's
got it. It's fucking Space Harrier. Wait, but I mean, are
you saying that you wouldn't want to just play news bas Harrier. I would,
but they don't do anything. They don't do enough with it. You
know, it's they don't you know, it's just an extended sequence where you're
like, yeah, okay, I'm gonna fight this boss again, but now
there two of them, Okay, Like you find like three separate bosses in
the whole sequence, Like it's fucking crazy. That's like a good two minute
joke that just extends out to eight or nine, if not more. But
yeah, you know, we're playing this Princess Peach and it makes bowser hands
come out instead of the stuff. Was that in the new one or they
being out a one? Yeah, they would and added stuff to one.
Holy crab. That's that's that's intense. Yeah, you play with the pro
controller. No, what do you play with? Yeah? Campaign, really
the buttons and everything are all in the same exact position. It's just a
matter of like, why can you handle having Like it's not that it works.
Used to play pso on the GameCube. But that thing that had the
fucking keyboard in the middle of I think it's like a foot apart. Oh
wow, yeah, I don't know what it was the same. That was
totally thing. Yeah, it was great. It was pretty great. It
was real stupid but awesome that they made it. Yeah, you know,
just what else I don't know. So I I got into war Frame,
Yes, you did the hell So this will be the second time today that
we've had an extended conversation about war Frame. I got into war Frame over
the break. How did that happen? How did you get into war Frame?
Get back into war Well, so my girlfriend did most of the playing
on Bayoneta, so you know, she was playing on the TV, and
I was like, well, I'm gonna hang out over here and you know,
kind of watching play a little bit here, a little bit there,
and uh, you know, and then I ended up sitting there staring at
Steam and war Frame had come up a little bit in December. Uh,
you know, I kind of think I had messed with it a little bit
before the break and came to the realization that like, oh, it's like
in some ways, it's like a better game than Destiny, and it's extremely
similar in some notable ways. I seem to recall it's we did a quick
look of it waiting. We did yeah, twelve twenty we did it like
probably late twenty twelve, earlier twenty thirteen, I think it was, you
know, like our our date on the side is like March twenty thirteen for
I think that's for release. I didn't know it's around that though. It
was in Vada for that. I remember just like some space. It kind
of looked like dead space, but more of a faster shooter. So all
that shit is gone, really, all the dead space like dark corridor stuff.
Wait, what it is like that environment? I have not seen it
again. That was the entire game. Yeah, so now it's like planets
and running around and facilities. There are still ships, but the lighting is
much better, like the there's a Yeah, they have done a lot to
the environments and levels in that game. The core action is still very similar.
You're still running around two weapons in a melee attack third person came out.
Yeah yeah, yeah, so like that stuff is still in there,
still sharp. They've added a lot of content to it in terms of new
war frames, which are basically, you know their characters. You can equip
whatever weapons you want on each of them. But is a warframe a class
sport? Yeah? Basic equivalent to a class? Yeah, a warframe is
a character. It's it's an appearance and four abilities and some stats that are
associated with it as well. Wait, does that mean you can swap war
frames on the same character or are you locked to you equip warframes just like
you would equip a sword. There's nothing, There is nothing under the warframe.
You never see a human character that you are bolting the warframe too.
Okay, but the point is you can more or less change classes on the
same Yeah, okay, it's kind of cool, and you rank up each
piece of gear individually, like, there are definitely things about it you look
at very similar to Destiny, whereas as you're leveling up your gun, it's
you know, it's becoming more powerful, but also you know, you have
some customization options there too, where you're opening up more ability points that you
can use to equip mods that'll do things like okay, bigger magazine size,
you know, faster fire rate. You know, now it's doing ice damage
like, you know, like different sorts of things like that, and then
you can fuse the mods together to make them more powerful. So that system
is not is not particularly well explained, even though they have simplified it over
the last time we looked at it a couple of years ago, Like it's
that that part has been completely overhauled since then. But that's the thing is,
it's got to be a hard thing for digital extremes or any developer of
a game like this, I think, to manage is that balance between you
know, creating the new player experience in such a way that you're explaining all
these systems versus quickly bolting things on for your existing player base that already kind
of gets it. And so I think that that game is like Super Rough
or a new player coming in there's a threat on our boards for Giant bomb
heavy Industries, the Warframe clan and without without some folks in there, there
are aspects of that game that would not have made any sense to me at
all. But yeah, you're going on missions repeatable missions on you know,
planets in our Solar system. There's not a lot of story. They just
kind of yell about some factions here and there and some other fucking mystical bullshit.
Like it is a lot like Destiny, but better in a few ways.
For example, you don't have to sit there and wait through a loading
screen to go to town because all of the kiosks you would find in town
are part of your ship, so you're just loaded back into that. When
you're not in a mission. You can go at social hubs if you want,
and they're going to add reasons supposedly for you to go there and pick
up stuff, I guess, But generally speaking, it's a little more streamlined
than that experience. And also it's a free to play game. You know,
it's got its grind. You know, you can just go buy all
the weapons with real money if you want, or you can buy pass that.
Is there a way to just like pay a flat fee like fifty bucks
or something like that and get a pretty open experience. So yeah, pretty
much, But it depends on what you're looking for, because if you just
want to stick with one class and play it, you'll stop leveling up at
a certain point, and that may, you know, kind of prevent you
from seeing some of the end game stuff. But generally speaking, like you'll
be pretty fucking powerful, you won't be able to unlock all the additional webso
so they control they gate kind of access to some stuff, even purchasing.
You can't necessarily buy your way into some gear until you have achieved like certain
character like like account levels and account XP has earned by you leveling up unique
things. So there's a sword, there's also Wolverine Claus's axes. Each of
those has a level associated with them, and when you level those up,
it contributes to your main level. But if if all your gear is maxed,
you're not gaining anything for your main level. If you lose that bit
of gear, do you know your level stage lose gear, you can you
might be able to trade some stuff, I guess, actually, but it's
not like you lose four levels. I don't think that's the case, but
but I'm but I'm not sure. So it kind of inspires you to when
you hit kind of level thirty with your with your war frame, you're like,
Okay, well, I guess now I need to level up another like
character, basically another another class, and you can you can craft those things.
It seems like that's a real grind, but you can craft weapons,
you can craft all that, all that different stuff if you want. But
that's like you know, you have to get blueprints and then do this and
then do that, and like that's it's kind of an arduous process that then
you know, like the last thing I had to craft took thirty six hours
to craft. So they put big time or pay fifty platinum to rush to
construction, so they fill it full of that sort of stuff. But you
know, there's a lot to play there. They don't ever prevent you from
playing the video game unless you pay them money, so there is that aspect
to it. But like there's just shit in there. I didn't even realize
they'd put in, Like you know, the mission I finished yesterday is the
first arc Wing mission, which that was the whole thing, like you have
the big there was the thirty six hour thing was was building these parts which
I also had to craft, which took six hours a piece into the arc
Wing and then that gets deployed at the end of the mission and all of
a sudden, it is a space shooter. Yeah, like I'm flying around
open space with this thing strapped to me shooting things down like it's it's it's
pretty impressive. Like, you know, I don't, you know, I
don't know. I can't. I can't specifically say if the like price you
pay to get around some of the more bullshit humps that they put in there
is worth it because there are so many different ways to buy the plat platinum,
which is the paid currency. There's so many different ways to do that
sort of stuff that you might be able to find a way that works for
you and makes sense for you personally. But you know, there's a lot
of content there. It's it's definitely come a long way. It's it's it's
still a contender, Like it's still one of the more played games on Steam.
Yeah, that sounds like a completely different game than what I remember.
Mostly different games. Yeah, I mean the core of it is the same.
You know, you're still going to these missions doing this sort of stuff.
But it's just it's funny to me that like like looking back at it
now, uh, you know, years later, Like it's Destiny in a
lot of ways, sure, except it supports four players instead of three.
I've been playing on PC. But yeah, it's on PS four and Xbox
One now as well as up to date. It is slightly behind the PC
version on both consoles right now, I think, but it is close.
They used to have. There was one point, like like last August,
I think the versions lined up and they did migration. If you wanted to
migrate your PC character and copy it to the PS four you could. But
that's not available right now, and I don't know if it'll ever be available
again, if that was just something they were doing that one time. But
uh, yeah, I don't know. I'm a playing on PC. It
looks really nice, it looks really sharp, i'd like to say action.
I thought it looked really good, and when it came out, yeah,
yeah, so i'd be curious to see what the new levels and stuff looked
like. Yeah, it was fun to revisit it. And then I just
I don't know, It's just it's a game that I kind of fell into
and it was just sort of like, well, you know, I don't
know, I'm not really you know, I'm not on a holiday break.
I don't want to take anything too seriously. Fuck, I'll play some war
Frame. Man. It was fun. It was fun not taking things too
seriously. As how I managed to play several hours as far right four over
the Break and not advanced the storyline one iota. So yeah, I did
a fair amount of that as well. I've now taken over and you know,
I did a lot of this stuff when I reviewed it. But you
know, I have all the outposts, saw the towers. I have crafted
or I've crafted everything I had. Are you upgrading that a house? Yeah?
That is almost all the way upgraded. I keep pouring money into that.
And like outside of like, oh there's body armor in a fountain,
I haven't really seen a whole lot of like it's cool. Body armor in
the helicopter? Are the two things that are worth getting? How do you
get the helicopter? You know, a helipad, it's like four hundred thousand.
You just get that, and then there's always a helicopter there. Garden.
I'm only missing like two things, and I really need to get that.
The garden is also useful because it's got like like two or three of
all the different types of herbs just sitting right there. Yeah. Oh so
you can just load up on craft whatever syringe you want. Okay, when
does that Key to the North mission start, because I've done like eighteen out
of thirty two main missions, and I would have thought the Key to the
North thing had opened up probably getting there, okay, because I still have
four health slots and you can't get the six until you do that mission.
So I have got to stop being a perfectionist about the outpost in that game,
though, yep, because every time I get spotted, I just run
off and come back like thirty minutes later. There's one of the skills only
unlocks if you get through two outposts completely un undetected. So that's what I'm
trying to get right now. Oh, you haven't done two, you've done
one. Okay, we'll just go back and do Outpost Master on the very
first one. Oh it doesn't count. Yeah. Do you still get the
bonus and stuff to XP and all of it? What? Oh? Wow?
I thought that stuff was only a one time thing. Oh that's ridiculous.
Well, I don't know if you get the XP. I assume you
do, Okay, but you could at least for unlocking that at least unlock
that skill, and that's the only time you need the undetected stuff too.
Okay, Yeah, I should just go in there with the grenade launcher.
Yeah, they'd probably do it. Co op outposts elephants, Yeah, I
just send a fucking elephant. The elephant is so good in that game.
I like loading up elephants to a C four and then writing them in and
then blowing up the elephant in the middle of the base. That's pretty fun.
How's the elephant fair in that transaction? Oh? It dies and then
it's just a bunch of damage skin that you can't do anything with. Although
elephants you can't really do anything with anyway. Well, so the one of
the crafting one of the final like Rare Animals, is a crazed elephant that
you have to kill the flamethrower. Crap alright, it's pretty fucked up.
I just it is a very angry elephant. Angry. I just did the
Rare Rhino one last night, which, like the scenario they set up for
that, it's pretty awesome because you go pick up the like right shotgun they
want you to use, but then right down the road, the fucking rhino
is just rampaging up a bridge, knocking cars out of the car left and
right. Yeah. Yeah, people, people are going ape shit and this
rhino was just destroying like eight cars in its path. Does that happen in
Africa? Just like rhinos? Single rhino stampede? Oh yeah. Actually I
went and read the bio for that rhino and it's like it was some giant
rhino that they captured and tried to incorporate into some reality show. Because if
you look at the model, it's got like there's like ropes tied to it
and stuff where broke free of chers. Yeahs kind of an interesting is it
white? Are you guys using the grenade launchters the side arm? Yeah,
that's the best thing in the world. Best just have the grenade launchtery as
your side arm, because then when you're driving around, like you'll pass the
guy it's like, oh, here's the carrier or here's a convoy. It's
because I never used I've never used the signs specifically because it's considered one one
handed weapon. Is why it's so good, because that's because they let you
use it in vehicles as well. Yeah. I chased to hawk around for
like thirty minutes trying to like shoot it with a grenade launcher in mid air,
just for fun. It was great. And then I tried to chop
it up with my blades. When I ran out of grenades, No,
it got away. Yeah, Like, I'll take out those Pagans convoys the
procession of like three jeeps with Yeah, I'll just hop on a buzzer with
a grenade launcher and just like soar over him and just pop them off.
It's it's super fun. I'll give that a shot. I've just been using
the DARPG for my explosives. Takes too long to reload and everything, and
again it's it's the driving one hand, it's the best and it makes that
sound ef I did jump out of a buzzer and land on a guy like
did the stab animation and stuffy. Wow, it's pretty awesome. That's pretty
cool games. That's a good game. Yeah, it's a good game that
I can't seem to commit to or like do anything meaningful in. It's fun.
It's just fun to fuck with. You know, you're making progress all
every step of the way, doing little missions here and there, and then
you know it's there's a lot to get through. It's one of those is
where like the side stuff is fairly forgettable in that it is different variations of
the same mission over and over again. But you know, if you just
want to knock out some stuff, have a good time, like maybe you
have a good time along the way in that right, it reminds me a
shadow of Mortar in that the core gameplay loop, if you want to use
that phrase, like, is so satisfying that having that repeated over and over
kind of three dozen times for side content is not that big a deal to
me. Like taking taking on a handful of guys around the building is fun
in that game, so right if I if I do it in service of
rest going a hostage or like popping a balloon or whatever the fuck they want
me to do, like, it's still fun, you know. See,
I haven't gotten tired of those things. It's the Shanker law missions. I
don't really do it for me. Yeah, I did two of them and
I haven't done the rest that they're not required. Oh I thought those would
be all part of the story warriors journey or something. The first one is
and that's it. Oh wow. I mean they try to introduce new things
like the five arrow bow or whatever, but I don't know like that the
tiger thing isn't that much fun, and like the new from hot Chest part
two. Yeah, yeah, man, chicken, did you finish all I'm
wondering if you get something cool again, because I kind of want to finish
the thank on the wall in your house. I've got like three out of
the five or whatever done. That's all I've got. When you fill out
the whole left side of the skill tree, something pops up and it says
deal double damage permanently. Oh so you should fill out the left side of
the skills. Yeah. By the way, I was thinking all the way
back to the quick look, I play that game with headphones on a lot.
Yeah, there is a tiger roar when you highlight those skills. Yep.
Yeah, it's just very quiet. Yeah. Yeah, it's not as
loud as the out no, but it is. It is there. Yeah.
It's a good game. Yeah, yeah, that is a lot of
I did play some of that. I played some more Call of Duty.
I prestige. I did not want Iced Tea to think ill of me,
so so I reset. I'm back to about level seven. He out there
throwing shade on I. Just years ago. He had some very pointed things
to say about people that do not presstige. If he still plays, you
know, I haven't seen him talk about games and in quite some time.
I'm not currently following him. No, yeah, he used to do like
YouTube und boxings and stuff like Gre's a War three special edition, like yeah,
yeah, I haven't seen as much of that. I don't know he's
he has a podcast now that I subscribed to because he there's an episode where
he's interviewing Cool Keith and I really want to saw that. Yes, I
saw that. I wanted to hear Cool Keith speak, but I've not listened
to it yet. But yes, the Final Level podcast is out there.
How many how many Cool Keith person personas are there? I mean, if
you want to talk about ones that have been represented in album form, there's
a lot. But then there's another dozen or so that get rattled off in
a music video where he's just like orange Man, the kid from the video,
you know, like you know, just doesn't even get into rhythm X
and Tayshawn Dorsett, right, doctor doctor going and uh one Cliff yeah,
doctor doctor gone, doctor Doom Clift, Televasquez Clift or Clifton Santiago. No,
No, he's not Clifton Santiago. That's the other guy. Uh yeah,
there's a lot cool Keith and the Master of Hip Hop World. They're
all great names. Yes, she certainly are. Next tun of fifty one
game, Yeah, the smake Master Drew. Hey, Hello, I what
did you do the last two weeks? Oht of a lot of nothing,
A lot of hold up in a cabin and tahoe with my folks. Uh
and playing games. A lot of old games, not a lot of recent
stuff, those fancy electrical games about half half and half. Yeah, I
uh went so, like all my old consoles are up there. Uh So
whenever we go back, we always played old stuff. Me my brother went
through our Genesis Baseball games to see which one was the best. I don't
know yet ict no no verdict out on the list we went back. We
remember liking that one a lot, but it's also one of the first.
Yeah, that game was practically a launch game. I remember this. It
still looks really good, Like it's one of those games that like, uh,
it doesn't go outside of its capabilities in terms of graphics, and it
still looks pretty good. That game is hard, especially for the batter,
and that's where it kind of falls apart. So we played World Series Baseball
instead, which is it does not look nearly as good. Yeah, but
pitching and batting are a little evenly more evenly mashed there. Also, I
realized we played Gunstar Heroes, and I realized I had never actually beaten Gunstar
Heroes. It gets hard, it gets really hard, but like I loved
that game, and we kept like playing and playing and I was like,
I don't remember this level, and he's like, yeah, have you not
beaten Gunstar Heros? And I finally did. Now I've beaten Gunstar Heroes.
So that was New Year's resolution began and ended. It's gonna done. I
had an Xbox One up there, so we've played a lot of Jackbox Excellent.
Yeah. That was. If I had played more of that game by
the time I wrote my list, that would have been way up there.
Really. Oh yeah, yeah that was. That was a big hit at
my parents house. I ended up playing a little bit of it over Twitch
and it worked. I seen a lot of people talking about that, but
I thought that the delay on Twitch would cause it. It means that you
have to be faster on your ship than normal. But you know the phone
changes when it's ready to go regardless, so you know, you just see
the phone change to entering your answer. It puts the question there, so
you don't need to look at the stream to get what you need to get.
Did you just tweet out the room code and tell people like, hey
joined this, few want too? Or it was a random people? Was
no, no, it wasn't. But but you could theoretically do it with
random people. I think one of those games supports up to one hundred,
like hundred people. That's the lie Swatter one. I want to say.
It's not great. Yeah, no, we only played a fibbage and some
of that. The two Yeah, yep, yeah, you don't know Jack.
Still it's still is solid. It's the classic. Yeah, that's it's
it's real tough for the first game someone who's never played it before. This
is like a lot of like all right, this is what the screw is
and this is what the secret message is and blah blah blah blah. Yeah.
The people I was playing with pick that stuff up pretty fast. But
Brown three I ran every single round three. I think it's purely like a
reflex, just like hammer on the button thing. Yeah, like even like
they knew most of the answers they judge, they just weren't getting it.
In you know. Yeah, I mean you've also got to kind of understand
the writing a little bit. It's not you know, it's not Jeopardy.
It's not like sure super straightforward. But yeah, that was fun. Played
some Halo the master Chief Collection offline mode. Yeah, just the campaign stuff,
no, the local local multiplayer. So yeah, so my brother and
sister and I have a like custom game type that we always played together on
the original Xbox with Halo one, and so we recreated that and totally worked.
Yeah, it's fantastic master Chief Collection to doing. It's what it's supposed
to do. Yeah. I have not checked in since the break with the
multiplayer. I hear it's a little better, but I haven't Still, I
haven't seen a lot of complaints lately. So either they fixed it or people
gave up. I'm not sure. Yeah, they they gave some stuff away.
Yeah, that's that'll a lot to come up, man, A lot
of people get some stuff away recently. But the rest of it was was
board games or I guess non non video. We played some Resistance, which
was great. There's another family we know up there and we got together with
them and played like nine person Resistance. That was pretty fun or ten.
I think, wow, is that Avalon? Or they have several unders that
similar similar to Avalon, a little more basic, like Avalon has the rules
with like Merlin stuff. This is very much just like bad people knew who
they are, good people don't. That's it. But like by the time,
like Resistance, I think like Avalon feels very much like a sponsor to
the Resistance or like an updated version because like Resistance, you get into a
like a rut, like spies always win, uh with this many people,
and then with this many people the Resistance always win. So like by the
end of it, we were trying to figure out ways to like switch it
up a little bit. But I feel like maybe nine people I think we
were playing with we're playing with ten. I think nine people would probably be
best because it's like with ten, there's just way too many spies and it's
just a yeah, they just win all the time. But another game we
played a lot of was a Memoir forty four. It's a World War two
game Hexes. It's not don't freak out too late. It's pretty good.
It's like it's like x Com but with World War two and on a board
and one and the one that actually like caught our attention the most was Hanabi.
It's a it's a game where you're trying to assemble the world's best firework
display, but it's all with cards. So like you, you're dealt like
five cards each, but you don't look at them. You flip your hand
over and then show everybody else, and then everyone else goes around and tries
to determine one who to tell information and two what information that can be.
So, for example, if if it's my turn and I see that Dan
has like a really valuable card, I can say one of two things,
the color of the card or the numerical value of the card. That's it.
That's the only two things you can say, right, okay, And
then from there he can determine either to discard a card or play a card.
Basically, what you're trying to do is like make a solitaire board.
Like everyone it's cooperative games, so everyone together is making a solitaire board.
So you're not trying to get valuable cards away from other people or something.
No, no, no, it's cooperative. So Dan can either choose to
discard a card or play one. If he discards a card, it could
like he could be correct in assuming that it's discardable, and if he doesn't,
there are only a certain number of cards available, so he could discard
like a really rare card and we would be totally screwed. Or he can
decide, all right, I'm gonna play this card because I think it's a
three or whatever, and if he's wrong, you lose one of your lives
and you're going out like five lives or maybe four. So it's it's a
lot of like trying to remember what people have told you and trying to tell
people stuff, uh without really telling them. It's like, hey, this
one is a four because you can only you have very limited opportunities to tell
people information, so you've got to make account. It's it's it's a great
game. Complicated, It's it's not. Actually I'm yeah making it sound a
little more complicated, or it sounds like it requires a decent amount of like
focus, memory and information recall it's sorts of variety. Yeah, maybe probably
that it's it's it's basically it's basically UNO, but your hands are flipped around
and you're cooperating. When did the fireworks come out? Uh at theah?
Yeah, that's that's that's way better than the un but with your pants down
that I'm used to on Xbox Live. Oh yeah, I don I got
pretty far with that Xbox Live. Who knows? Gone? I like the
original Uno. That's crazy. I mean, you know, it's a type
of license they could run out. One of the first things I saw when
I bought the Vision Camera and played UNO on Xbox three sixty was a man
in a full Spider Man suit masturbating. Wow, that's pretty good. I
saw Canadians doing cocaine. It's also pretty good. Man, Who knows that?
Weird? I'm kind of sad. I actually actually don't have a great
like you know, with the Xbox camera story. Not really. They should
have put out a new UNO one, they really, they really. I
don't know that you could ever really recapture the magic. I mean, you
know, it's just fucking fun. You play on the internet. Sure,
oh sure with like friends. Sure, but I have like a camera view
here too, Sure, why not? But the novelty of having the view
and other people's room, Yeah has worn off at this point totally. That's
now now you just have whole products that are devoted to that. Yeah.
We don't get me wrong. I'll play Muno anytime, but that that certain
brand of absurdity that came along with that stuff is kind of everywhere now.
So I remember thinking the vision camera was going to be like a new standard
for like all multiplayer games, because like I remember Caman of Conquer three had
that so you and you can see the other person's face, and I remember,
cool, It's like, oh yeah, burned out. Just having great
use of that was maybe the best that nu. It was kind of cool
though, like if you send like a huge you know, rush to someone's
base and you see their reaction, like, oh crap, I gotta deal
with this, Like that was kind of a cool novelty. And I remember
thinking like, oh man, like Mortal Kombats and street Fighters are gonna use
this, and this is gonna be a new thing, and never really took
off. I did not want that, Oh god, no, I was
like an antisocial like online gamer, your game, guys, I don't want
turn off m M put an action figure there. Yeah, okay, I'm
batman. I pointed mind to the ceiling most of the time when I was
playing, you know, and stuff like that, because depending it just you
know, you gotta scope it out. See like, okay, are these
people like all right kind of all right, all right, here's my face.
Okay, all right, you guys get to see my face. But
I'm still not wearing a headset. Fuck you. I only ever played it
with people I knew, So solve that problem. That's how I like to
play games online, to get out there and you know, get out there
the esports uno. Yeah, you don't play ranked? Yep, get serious?
Yep. What's Roger Gotham deck? What's your MMR? Tell me twelve?
It is a very high school game that hundred okay, Jason, Yo,
Hello, I spent I spent my holiday depressed on my couch, also
freezing on my ouch. I used to mock people that so that they got
cold and like, you know, sub fifty degree weather, and I found
myself getting soft. Was that here? Man? It was like thirty four
degrees at night here? What it got down to? Yeah, that's right.
I think there were a couple of days when I was out there that
I was looking at the weather and it was colder here than it was out
there. Yeah, they were definitely like you know, like it'd get to
be about nine o'clock and you'd be like you. You'd look and be like,
oh, it's thirty five degrees. He's in dropping that's dangerous. Nobody
out here is equipped for it. You lived in Minnesota, Jason, I
know, I don't know what happened already, soft this quick, Dan,
What did I just say? What? Nobody out here is equipped for it?
Houses are drafty, the heating is not great, like it's just covers
and you put yeah, yeah, but dude, thirty five degrees. It's
three. So I put on layers right, and I'm like, I can't
I can't deal with it anymore. I'm gonna turn on the heat. I'm
gonna do it. I'm just gonna turn on the heat. Fired that thing
up, smell the burning, you know. Yeah. And then first time
of the year that you turned it on, like yeah, the first time
ever in our out of the year. Yeah. About a half hour later,
I'm like, I don't know if this is doing anything. It wasn't.
It was just blowing cold air, like right directly where I sit.
And then I'm like, well, I'll screw this and I'll put it in
a call to the maintenance or whatever, and I'll turn it off. I
want to go turn it off and it won't shut off. This is during
the holidays, so for three days cold, They're blowing right on my face
and I'm like, oh man, that's wretched. It was the worst.
There hasn't been a single day since I moved to San Francisco that I've slept
with the windows closed. I leave my windows open at night. Really,
yeah, it's great. I got over that real quick. Really, I'm
on the sunset. It's supposed to be colder out there. I don't know.
I don't know. I'm nice here, but uh yeah. Other than
that, I got some good Christmas presents stuff. It was. It was
depressing because we normally go uh down to Atlanta and Florida to visit family and
stuff, and we didn't this year. We're gonna do it in a couple
of weeks. So uh yeah, my holiday was spent drunk and freezing.
Yeah, you know, that's a good way to stay warm. When when
year my heater broke and I had I had a Christmas A lot like that,
had a December a lot like that. It was broken for a kind
of a while. Fuck no fun, right, no, no, there
was, yeah, there was that situation. Then I then one year,
like the power was out for two and a half days after a storm,
and you know, obviously the same situation. No beat. It's just like
holy shit, like I'm bundling up to go to bed and still shivering,
like this is it's no good. It's no good. That happened to be
at my parents house several I forget when several years ago they had a big
guy storm out there, no power five days plus they have a well.
So no power means no running water. Oh that's no heat, no power,
no running water for the better part of a week. I lived.
I lived on a farm North Branch, Minnesota, and I was probably like
eight years old or something like that, and my dad like moved us out
to the country because he fancied himself a farmer. He grew at like LFL
for or something. But this place was a dump, Like seriously, there
was no running water. There was an outhouse. We actually we we like
pissed in a bucket upstairs and we put a disco duck record over the top
of that. That that's my that's that's my one memory, like a couple
of years. That's maybe one of the few appropriate uses of disco duck.
Yeah, I think so I didn't know there was a disco duck before Disco
Inferno had that duck he carried around. Yeah, what's what's the older disco
duck? It's a song? Yeah, the radio DJ recorded as a novelty
hit, like a monster mash type thing. Yeah, ok, yeah,
were your fingers two? Frozen and gnar old? To play video games,
I did play some video games stuff. I tried like hell to play Guilty
Gear. Unfortunately I could only play it offline because PSN was down for entirety,
which sucks super bad. And like whenever i'd boot up Guilty Gear,
the game itself with freeze whenever we would try and like you know, pick
the network or whatever. So I did take the entire console offline to play
it. But other than that, man, we played actually a lot of
you don't know, jack, like a New Year's Eve. My wife had
never really played it that much, so we booted up New Year's Eve night
and you know, Cookie comes in. It's like, oh, you losers,
you're playing on New Year's Eve and she just lost her mind. Twenty
years It's like he's talking right to me. How did he know? But
that was fun. I was when we were playing. You know, they
rolled the credits after every game you play. Yeah, I forget what the
phrasing was, but there was a credit in there for something like announcer and
there was a name there that was not Cookie Masterson. Oh, And I
was like, I really hope I didn't just learn Cookie Masterson's real name.
The illusion was shattered. It's Cookie Masterson. It is Cookie Masterson. God
damn it. It's all He's on it and it always will be. Yeah,
I agree, Oh yeah, jack Box. I. You know,
it seemed like a lot of people raised their eyebrows a little bit at the
selection of that game as a local multiplayer Game of the Year awards. But
I feel like the value of that thing was truly proven over the holidays,
when you had a lot of people together and a lot of alcohol being consumed.
It's great and it's you know, it's the sort of thing that just
about anyone can play. Yeah, it's totally you know, like you know,
like every year I've I've been there with like seen at the movie,
trivia game and all this other shit, you know, or like guitar here
or whatever. Is always like they're like, oh, yeah, sure,
you're your video game that's that's great. You know, nobody wanted to mess
with it. But like the second I told everybody that was around that you
could just whip out your phone and play this game, like, people were
super stoked. Yeah, you know, it's a really easy sell. Like
that I learned is that heads up game on iPhone, the one I think
like Ellen like funded it or something. It's the thing where like you hold
the phone up your head. It's like the old game where you'd have a
thing written on an index card and you hold up to your head. The
person you're playing with, like your partner has to describe you is or it's
tarades or maybe it's a movie or whatever. Yeah, and it's it's on
iOS and it works so well, and they're like records it the whole time,
so if there's funny reactions or whatever, you can watch them. And
it's just an easy sell on a group of people who wouldn't normally play video
games, like yeah, two seconds tricks playing and people love. It's like
password or something. Yeah, and you buy different decks, so it's like
okay, now I'm gonna buy the deck of these you know, Hollywood classics.
Now IM gonna buy the Deck of the movie Trivia, So it's pretty
great. People like and are comfortable with their phones. Yeah, seriously,
Like, I'm gonna try to play some Jackbox stuff with my in laws I
when we go down to you to Florida, because they're like absolutely afraid of
anything technology based, but the phones they couldn't live without. So I think
if yeah, I think they might ease them into it a little bit more.
I ended up spending some time with phone games, yeah, a little
bit over the break, just kind of had some time here and there.
Did you play the Marvel I did. I was so, you know,
I spent time kind of making sure that the I think a few of us
probably spent time in the back end tools every day while Game of the Year
stuff was going up, just hammering in the last bits of it out or
making sure it was working properly. And I scrolled down to like what are
the top wiki objects right now? And there was just something that they said,
Marvel Contest of Champions, Like what the fuck is that? Click through
and see it's some fucking iPhone game. God great, a free to play
fighter. Yeah, and we have nothing at all on and on the side
except for like the images where ever, so I'm like, well, what
is this, went and downloaded. It's fighting game. They're like, okay,
all right, fighting games like fighting games them. I'm intrigued, yap
uh and and played a little bit of it. It's not it's quaint,
it's cute. How about that. Yeah, it's well made for like they
they know, you know, they found a way to make the touch controls
for a fighting game work on a phone by making your options extremely limited.
You know, you have like basically three different attacks and the supers you just
tap the meter to do a super No. No, no, it's a
real time action game. It more dive kicky. Then I mean, do
you move your character directly? No? No, you so basically like your
your movement and blocking is on the left side of the screen. So if
you hold on the left left side of blocks, swipe left, he'll back
dash, swipe forward you'll you'll dash in an attack, and the right side
basically you've got you know, tap for light, swipe for medium, hold
to charge up a heavy and then heavy's brick blocks. Okay, so there's
no like jumping in or anything. Nope, okay, and then when your
super meter fills up, you tap that to do a super It reminds me
of the Injustice Fighting game on Yeah, it was totally very simil Yeah,
yeah, very very similar. It's it's what I'm expecting that w W E.
Immortals to be like, since that's also on the other realm, so
I figured it'll be something like that. But then and then you unlocked your
level two Spider Man or whatever. Yeah, I got like found like a
level three Go Mora and like a level two Wolverine and and it's like,
all right, all three on three three person team and it's full of all
the most rotten free to play energy meters and all this other stuff along the
way and crystals and daily Crystal and come back for your daily crystal. Buy
a crystal and maybe you'll get a you know, roll the dice and maybe
you'll get something worth a ship and these the ISO eight Yeah, like Marvel
Universe brings your level up and you know, like all that stuff is pretty
rotten, but like the core of it, I was actually I thought it
looked really nice, yeah, for a for like a Nios game, like
just visually, I thought the animation there's character models and stuff look pretty good.
Made me want another Marvel Ultimate Alliance really bad, Like the models reminded
me of them, I think a little bit. Yeah, little side story,
sorry, we just think about that game though, is that as soon
as you log into it, it connects to a chat room and the bottom
two lines on the screen you're devoted to chat at all times. I'm sure
that goes well. And it's just this just spew of fucking trash of It's
like it it's this mix of just like racial epithets, various cursing, all
of them misspelled and stretched out to get around the you know, kind of
real basic word filter. It's it's it's like it seemed like it was maybe
sixty percent of that and forty percent people saying yeah I'm eleven, which I
feel like that's a really good winning combination there. What I find the reason
why would you have that in there? I don't know, like looking for
group or what. I don't know if you can directly it has multiplayer,
but I don't know if you can directly challenge someone from there, or if
just the quick match or is it business guy like, yeah, like we
need to make this hot and social. Kabayim all right? I find I
find when you're drinking from the hose of internet shit. Uh that it helps
to assume everyone is eleven. Yeah, and then it makes a lot more
sense. Yeah, I guess so. But then you realize they aren't and
you get sad. Yeah, yeah, it is what it is. Hey,
I got a new video card? Oh yeah, yes, did you
get I got a nine eight nice? Yeah, welcome to the nine eighty
clubs. I like it here. I've never had a top of the line
video card before, and now my world is jazz. I love I love
life. I'm jealous. Yeah. Quake three runs so good? Oh she
guys, I'm sure you guys saw that quake running on in a soloscope video?
Yeah, that looks so good that do you remember Memory of a Broken
Dimension? Yeah, that's what that same quake running on a soloscope remind me.
Uh so, I got all yeah, I want to play that game.
That that thing blew my mind. It looks so cool. Like watching
it, I immediately did you look at how he did it? Like basically
like because there's a but in the video where you see it running on a
computer, you know, it's like they're basically es basically like from what I
could tell, like sort of hashing the level geometry into like an audio stream.
It said like, yeah, geometry converted to ninety six killers. Yes,
right, white, and then the soul scope is basically drawing a way
form the corresponds to the audio generated from the three D space. Yeah,
I want to hear what quakes sounds? Yeah? Yeah, I think he
says on the how he did it page like that. You can listen to
it and it sounds like terrifying or nails, isn't it? Yeah? Something
sure, I mean it's the soundtrack that fits. Yeah, that will stand
of reasons right there. You know. Oh man, hey Dan, Hey
Brad, tell me about your holiday, Brad, I did a lot of
things. Yeah, this this is the first day since like the twenty second
of December that I haven't just been wall to wall doing something or completely bedridden
sick. So it's it's been a lot of eventful days. I don't even
really know where to start there. Does it feel like a vacation when you
do that? Not really, because that's kind of the vacation I had to
where it's like every single day you were busy with something, and no,
I feel like this is my vacation now to where I can actually relax and
get back into the swing of things. I'm not like drinking every night and
stuff and running around and flying. And yeah, this is me relaxing for
the first time in like two or three weeks. So yeah, it's been
good. I spent a week in Kansas. Actually just put up today on
the website a four hour podcast with my dad that that turned out to be
really fun. Premium content. Yes, premium content. The very first thing
on the site in twenty fifteen, Like it's my dad drinking whiskey and bullshitting
for four hours. This podcast is embossed and foil stamped. Is the most
premium thing on the website. Yes, ye did that? Did you do
that all in one shot or was that like collected over a course of several
days or something. No, we did one the first night or we just
sat on the floor and drank a bunch of whiskey and talked for two two
and a half hours, and then on Christmas night we kind of reflected on
Christmas and all other things and drink more. And I gotta hear that it
was I think it turned out really good, like Christmas in general, or
like you know, record Christmas that sounds that's kind of existential. We kind
of cover everything, and it's just kind of fun because I don't know,
Me and him have kind of a natural report because it turns out we've known
each other for a while. So yeah, it's just kind of cool to
have that stuff kind of recorded because we have some fun conversations. But yeah,
it's been a week there, got real sick near the end, which
carried over and to me coming back here. My sister visited for a week
and so we did like all the tourists the San Francisco stuff, most of
which I hadn't done yet since I still kind of conser myself new to the
city, Like did Alcatraz, Almatraz so cool. I loved. I was
really especially being a fan of the Rock. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
between watching The Rock and the Alcatraz Tony Hawk level, I had a
full time at Alcatraz. Yes, but it's actually done so well to where
it's so many like historical sites. When you do a tour of them,
it's some guys like all right, now we're gonna look at this, and
this happens. This happens now. If you'll follow me over here there you
get the audio tour thing, so you know, it says stand here in
press play, but at any point you can hit stop and you're just kind
of free to walk around the whole damn or island. You can go outside
and walk around and go up to the medical wing or like it's awesome,
like we did the whole audio tour, but then we just hung out for
a while and just walked around the cells. And you can go into the
solitary confinement cubes and stuff and read about the guys who you know, almost
escape or maybe did. Yeah, they were there. There were there was
this famous escape the three guys. Yeah that like, oh they don't know
if they drowned or whatever, but there was like some new study done on
that escape to like trying to pass a final verdict on whether they lived or
not. Oh wow, I forget what they said. I was pretty happy
that they also sold copies of the Rock and the gift shop, so that
was pretty nice, like especially embossed or something like I have two I have.
It's not like an Alcatraz special edition. I've got the Criterion Collection DVD
and I also just got them blue right there should there should be a special
version of the Rocks that you can sign by Alcatraz. Mister Alcatraz. Yeah,
No, it was great. Uh you know it's just ex Alcatraz.
She she's twenty one now, so this is like the first time we were
actually able to like go out to bars and stuff together. And so I
took her to hood Slam. That was a hood Slam sick. Uh.
Yeah, everyone goes to hood Slam sick, Brad, No one leaves well.
Yeah. On three separate occasions, Roseph Joe Brody brought his his whiskey
bottle over and poured it straight down me and my sister's face. Wait out
my nose. Whiskey went straight up my nose while I was sick. Which
if you want to feel great, have a bunch of mucus and whiskey all
three of your sinuses. So that's a real good feeling. I mean it
seems like it would clear him out. No, No, it just makes
it real gross and you blow your nose. What I want to know if
you know what mister brody Is preferred brand of crowd whiskey is, It's Jack
Daniels. But I think he puts some tape over it, like Seine filled
it up, so you can't out of the logo or whatever. Yeah,
that's the thing to worry about. The brand of They have a code word
for if the cops raid the place. Yeah, blueberry pancakes. Yes,
yeah, yeah, no, so isn't it also had actual Thanks too,
mister Brodie oh for helping with the Game of the Year Stiff. Yeah,
that was a lot of fun and it hurt a lot doing that. Wrestling
training legitimately hurt. Like all these like wrestling dorks like me like to think,
like because we always have to defend the industry and be like, no,
these guys are really getting hurt like that. That rings harder than you
think it is. And so like smarks as they call us, like to
think, we know how much it hurts. Then it's take an actual like
hiptoss or something, and that hurts. Yeah, two or three times worse
than you expected. So I thought the Matt itself was like a springboard or
something for rubber. It's no two by fours. It's two by fours.
It's it's not even like amateur wrestling like Matt. No, No, it's
it's wood with just a thin layer of canvas over it. And holy even
in the middle of where it's got the most give. It hurts, like
shit, wow, like just those hips. I was taking hiptosses. I
wasn't taking power bombs and shit. Uh man, So I mean those guys
must have some techniques down for kind of minimizing impact. Yeah, it's like,
you know how kind of like shock absorption or something. So you're like
back flat, back bump, so it would spread the impact out and you
slam your arms out to the side as otherwise Holy shit, how would you
walk away from that? Hey, I'm sure I wasn't taking those bumps,
right, because it's like landing on your side. Yeah. I landed on
a couple of them. You took it took a little rough, Yeah,
like brushing my teeth for the next like two weeks hurt every time I raised
my right arm. Mommy be like, oh shit, yeah wrestling. Uh
yeah, so that really sucked. But yeah, that was a blast and
uh thanks to Browse and hood Slam for the help of that. That was
fantastic. Special thanks to Troy Baker too. Yeah that was fun. Holy
crap. Yeah, he was at did not take long to convince him to
do that. Yeah, he literally came off the lobby We're like, hey,
I was holding a camera just so we didn't have to like waste any
time. You want to do this thing real quick upstairs? In the podcast,
rim, yeah, sure, let's do on the way. I had
to explain like an alligator in the elevator. Yeah, he flies airplanes.
You're gonna be that guy. He's like, okay, sure, let's do
it. That was all one take, just improv Yeah, he was.
He was fantastic. I want to see that uncut footage. We will we
have more of it, do something with that. I want to see the
stuff that didn't make it in. Yeah, I guess, I guess.
Man, he's a pro. Yeah, seriously, what a pro? Like
that slow motion voice? Yeah, it's scary, Yeah, incredible, hilarious.
I also rekindled a fire within me over this break. Oh all right,
So I've always always prided myself on accomplishing whatever I set my mind too.
But there's been one thing for twenty five years that's eluded me, okay,
and that's beating Mike Tyson. White Whale. It is beating Mike Tyson.
Jason knows very well because he recorded three hours of me trying to beat
Mike Tyson. At the Old Gig unsuccessfully. Yeah, that's all on YouTube.
Stress was Dan Reichertz. Yeah, I had a bunch of yeah who's
like heckling me and stuff too. So I'm thinking, I'm gonna do this
right, I'm trying to find an old CRT. I want to get an
any ass because I went to Soda Popinski's that bar with my sister twice and
she it was awesome because she's really good at video games and she takes to
him very quickly. She's got the reflexes of youth and everything, so she's
streams yeah yeah, Kayla, And so we she played through all the punch
Out like you know, got to Tyson and stuff, and like you know,
she was raised on like the sixty four era, and yet she picked
up punch Out and like immediately understood what was going on there, like the
patterns and everything. The star punches was two buttons. Yeah yeah, but
I mean a lot of times you hand the controller to someone with punch Out
and they just start mashing buttons and they don't understand it's so much a dodge
and counterattack type of game. Okay, but yes, at one point we
just it was two for ones and I just loaded up on a bunch of
whiskey, and I just sat there and I was like, I'm going to
keep fighting Mike Tyson over and over again, and several times I got two
round three and you know, I had like enough points to wherey if I
could just go the distance, I would beat him on points. We could
five thousand after round three and I couldn't. But yeah, I was consistently
getting better and better and getting past that ninety second hell period where you actually
out with one punch. But then I tweeted about it and I saw a
bunch of people saying that it's almost impossible on HDTVs, which I realize every
time I've tried to do this as an adult, I failed, and it's
been on an HDTV. So I want to try now that I know how
that fight is structured so well over and over again. I think if I
could get a CRT and play the game, I think I can beat Mike
Tyson. After twenty five years, and this is this seriously has been the
one thing that's eluded me in video games forever and twenty fifteen, like it's
my wallpaper on my phone until I beat him. I'm just start going to
stare at that that asshole every single time I turn it on. But yes,
I'm going to beat him, and I will. I will certainly be
pretty loud about that when I didn't and you tend to buckle under the pressure
though, like I've seen this firston. But again, it's the one game
that gives me legitimate like anxiety issues. And uh but I mean again,
you were there. It was with three people kind of giving me a ship
on an HDTV while being recorded for the Internet. We spent like an hour
trying to like build you up as well. Yeah, yeah, and I
still couldn't. But but no, this is the year. If twenty fifteen
ends and I have not beatn Mike Tyson in that game, I have failed.
So you can't do it that I'm going to do it. I am
one going to beat him. I've seen you fight, Tyson. This is
going to be a concentrated that terrible, doesn't a sporadic once every few months
things. I'm going to beat the shit out. Now're gonna get to the
point where you just go into that bar and do it on a on a
on a lark. Well, I yeah, like every every time, like
every time you saw her in there. It's like, oh yeah, pop
off a Tyson. One of the first nights that we were there, some
guy yeah walked in as Dan was trying it, and just like his point,
they put the polar d you up on the freezer door. If you
beat Tyson, they give you a bottle of champagne for free, and they
put a polar radio up there. And actually you can see me in the
polar at that guy that we watched from that day. I'm in the background.
Is like, that guy's better than how many of them are up there?
For that's it. There's four Holy crap in a bar that is themed
around Mike Tyson named after a punch Out characters. It's gotta be more than
four people in the city who can beat Tyson. Yeah. Those TVs are
super laggy though, Yeah are they? Are they going through like a projector
or something. It's just TV. It's just a TV. It's an nt
TV up on the ceiling, which makes you think if I can get to
round three on that thing, I should certainly be able to do it the
correct way. I admire your optimism. It's gonna happen. It's not gonna
happen. It's gonna happen. Put money on it. I'm not gonna put
money on it. One hundred dollars right now. You have land in England.
I don't have Dan record. Yeah. Sorry, I gotta eat subway
every freaking day. I'm sorry. I had subway today and gift my apologies
the Lord Reichord. I didn't realize that the Landed Gentry was joining us today.
I am officially based on that thing. I got airmail to me today.
It says I'm officially a Lord Lord Dan Reichord, and I've got I
don't have it with me, but I've got a space on a ninety acre
things south of a river in England. I guess I own I've got the
deed or something to this, some like one inch by one inch. I
assume it's like the yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't know what it
looks all official. I got a crest and everything. It's a big folder
thing. It was airmail. That's gotta like this nice embosson where it's like
you can buy space on the moon. Yeah yeah, but this is in
England. You can go there. I guess you can go to the moon
too, but I can. Yeah, So I'm a lord. I'm Lord
Dan Reicherd. Now wow, I'm a little jealous like Steve Regel. I'm
I'm never calling it that again, just so you know. Yeah, that
was it. No honorifics here. Play any other video games? A few,
but you care to discuss in depth. Pokemon Puzzle League for Nintendo sixty
four is surprisingly fun to player, even if you don't care about Pokemon.
Oh yeah, yeah, Me and my sister played a bunch of that.
That was fun totally. Also, I was watching TV when I was real
sick that day. I was bedridden. I didn't really have any games in
Kansas, and I just saw commercial for Boom Beach. It's this iOS game.
It's by super Cell, the guys that did Clash of Clans. But
I didn't know that when I downloaded. I've never played Clash of Clans or
any of those type of games, never really thought twice about them. But
I was just sick of ship and a commercial came on and I was like,
fuck it, I'm looking for stuff to do, and so I downloaded
it and h it's you know what, I'm not hating it. I don't
like the whole like for you to play like wait for a time you're like,
oh, I'm up grading my radar. It's you're building it like an
island base, so like you're getting radars and wood storage and gold storage and
a headquarters and stuff and building up like landing craft that you put soldiers and
you know, different units and stuff on. So I mean I kind of
like that, you know perspective. Why is it looks like a comand of
conquer type game, but it controls very easily. The actual battles are real
simple. You just like send your landing craft to another island and you like
send a flare, like oh, go attack that sniper tower first, but
then you can also shoot from your like battleship and it costs you, you
know, this weird little currency thing. It's all right. I can see
it being one of those things though that I played for like two weeks and
realized that, like, yeah, I'm really doing is waiting for timers to
render. I did that with like Simpsons tapped out. We're like, okay,
I'll give this a shot. I've never really tried the premium thing very
much, and I played it for like two weeks and I was like,
you know what, I don't feel like I'm playing a game here. I
don't feel like I'm doing anything. I'm unlocking stuff in a very strict order.
While you're doing that, I've got two Ultra Rare A j Lee's level
up and combine and then level up again. Oh I thought I thought she
left the organization. No, no, she's still There's still there, her
husband is, I know, but I thought she was going to follow suit.
That's the rumors about that for a while. But this who knows?
I mean that the WWE is a fairly h vindictive company, is not that
the impression you get like, has has Sam Punkman removed from that thing yet?
Yeah? Oh no, no, no, no, he was never
in it. Oh he was never in it. That came out after he
was already no longer with the company. Yeah, gotcha. Non issue.
Let's played a bunch of docy Kent Country Tropical Freeze, which I believe was
that number one on Giant Bombs Game of the Year. Believe that was let
me look here, I think it was right behind Destiny. That's okay,
was an honorable mention on Dan Records. There was games. Yeah, couldn't
been that kid. I didn't even make my own I sat, I sat
on that quick look and I played a two player with you. I had
no desire to ever go back to it again. But I feel like through
sheer force of will, so many people keep talking about it, but like
I'm just gonna find myself ordering a copy of it at some point without even
wanting it. Like everybody just keeps bringing it up. They were playing it
on Awesome Games Done Quick yesterday some of that. Yeah I didn't know that
they speed ran a lot of current games on that thing. Yeah they did,
Yeah they do here. Yeah, that's right. That was another one
I saw last night on Twitter. People were talking about that, like it
seems like usually they need, like they need the years and all the elbow
grease of breaking the games down and fully exploited. If you think of how
the runs that we're getting right now, you can assume that you know,
ten years down the line, how much faster those runs could be. But
still discovering things like they did a Steam Reader like an anniversary collection. They
had just discovered a brand new skip like three hours before this really fifteen minutes
off. Wow, So that's just like a guaranteed new world record right there,
right, Yeah, that's crazy the more I see the speed run community,
it's just it's amazing how into it these guys gets were like the games
they're doing. Like I watched a warrior Land four speed run on Awesome Games
Done Quick yesterday for a while, and like they're talking about like, oh,
this is the warrior Land speed run community. It's like there's a community
that's dedicated to speed running Warrio Land games. They know, like joke,
but what I never saw a warrior Land for I watched them, Yeah,
and like they knew like super specific way. It's like, okay, well
I can skip into this door if after I hit this thing I started,
it buffers like the a thing, and I like they really knew their ship
with warrior Land and we're flying through that. Yeah, it's absolutely amazing.
I watched the task block, the tool assisted speed run block yesterday. That
is always my favorite thing about speed runs. And there's a whole site devoted
to you know, emulator videos and sorts of that sort of stuff. But
seeing them play that stuff on real hardware, it was pretty awesome. Did
you catch that? So last year they glitched Total Control into Super Mario World
in a way that let them force new program code through the control reports and
then basically they programmed in Snake, the old like Nokia phone style game and
and like Pong and some other stuff like that. And one of them kind
of off hand said, like, originally we wanted to force the program code
for the original Super Mario Brothers down, but we just couldn't get it together.
So this year, that's exactly what they did. So they glitched the
memory in such a way that it is, you know, it's like,
guess, it's the same way that like, you know, you certain games
could be used to mod consoles, like Mecca Sault on the original Xbox,
like glitched says and that sort of stuff. It's like different ways to manipulate
things, except they're doing it all with a controller or in this case,
a robot is you know, through the controller ports, glitching it in such
a specific way that basically it opens the game up to be programmed, and
then they force Super Mario Brothers one through the fucking controller ports and play it
into into what game super Mario World? Oh geez, Is that the entirety
of the game they did, I assume. So, like it starts with
the title screen, like it looks like it had it had s Nest music
in it. What Yeah, they used the Nest audio banks. Yeah.
Do you think about their next trick? Though? It was fucking great?
It was the Again, it was the sort of thing that they foreshadowed it
a little bit like as they were doing it, and I was like,
oh, I totally know what they're doing right now, because you know,
there's another total control trick for is Pokemon Red. They did it with they
manipulate the memory in such a way I have to reset the game, manipulated
some more, same type deal where you're forcing program code through it. And
what they did is they they forced in a chat client and then they started
streaming in data from the internet and had a Twitch chat client. So Pokemon
played Twitch. So Pokemon a super game boy's through super games and onto the
screen. Yeah, emoticons and everything. That's pretty intense. Yeah, it's
pretty crazy. It's pretty intense. Yeah, those guys are super talent.
However, they get how are they getting the data in? Uh through the
control report the USB. Sure, so they had you know, there's a
computer side to this that was feeding the data. Because you can connect to
Twitch chat via I r C, so it's fairly standard protocol that is well
documented. So first talented as those guys are, you give them microphones to
put on their head and they just lose them. Yet they don't know what
to do. Yeah, it's the same ones that we use the armadanna of
mics, and they're just like putting them on upside down. And it takes
like five minutes for these guys to get there their mics on. It is
between every game, So having me crazy, I had to get that out.
I'm sorry. I wonder how many of those guys utilize those skills and
like, you know, a real like day job type thing, because they're
obviously extremely talented with this like coding type stuff, and I have to imagine
there's plenty of jobs where you could apply that. I mean, I can't
imagine those guys are working at Subway and then doing like super genious programming stuff
just for fun speed run stuff. Yeah, I mean, I don't know.
Maybe they're exploiting iPhones in their spare time. I mean finding those kinds
of exploits like is aided a lot by knowing how computers work. Like a
lot of the best testers that I worked with, like new understood like buffer
overruns so they new to anticipate, like if they if I do this a
billion times, it might break. Or if this is how seeming works in
geometry, if I go and jump over here, I might get through this
wall. Things like that. Yeah, and that's you know, the that's
the sort of thing that emulation has allowed. And emulation I think is a
key part to speed running in a lot of ways. But not just the
tool assisted stuff. But you can dump a lout of data from Yeah,
yeah, definitely, like they can. They can sit there and look at
program memory and know, like you know, if they're onto something or not,
and try to figure out things that way. In some games, I
don't think it always works that way, but but that's you know, when
you're looking for glitches and level skips and weird shit like that. Like you
know, I'm sure that that stuff is extremely valuable. I love this seriously.
Yeah, it's crazy. Watched it all day yesterday. I've been kind
of watching a little bit. It just started within the last on forty eight
hours. Yeah, start Sunday Sunday morning, for like four days from I
think the tenth is the last day, which is what's Saturday. I don't
even know the day. It is really seriously but yeah, six days long.
Yeah, that thing's exciting. I had fune with the summer when last
year it's it's a great thing to just throw on in the background and just
kind of keep an eye on. And they raise a shitload of money just
in like, you know, an hour I was watching that Warrior Land thing.
They went from like thirty three thousand to like fifty something. Yeah,
that's awesome. They do a lot with that thing. It's a it's a
neat event. Uh. Far Cry four is about the only game I played.
It wasn't Doda or Destiny over the Break. Uh what are you?
What are you playing on PC? Or PYS four? But which one?
Far Cry? Yeah? Uh? Ps four four? Yeah? Uh you
play your Doda on a game board these days? I do. Indeed.
Actually I tried to play Doda on my MacBook a Super game Boy at my
parents' house with a like, I shit, you not a fifteen year old
mouse, which is the only one in the house I could find. No,
it was a mouse. It was just an act super super old Microsoft
mouse. Uh like Intel a mouse era like original is Ship with the red
laser? I think so? I mean it was a laser mouse. Yeah,
what do you call them? Very old one? What do you call
the mice where it's the big stupid thing where it's got the actual like ball
on top of it, the most unwieldy stupid thing. But I mean that's
not a mouse, it's track ball. Okay, but I didn't it called
the track ball like a normal mouse too, like the thing you can take
out. Well yeah, humming back with the balls and mice. Does anyone
like those track ball things really? Carpal tunnel people, that sort of stuff.
Some people switched to track balls to get relief from that. Also,
I mean I think they have specific uses, right yeah, centipede yeah,
missile command yeah yeah, and sure you can like bolt it, say,
to the arm of your chair and not have to like move something around my
surface. You know that makes sense? Yeah, I imagine in space probo
probably be all right, we should. Yeah, you have think pads I
think up there, But the i SS with the little nubs they announced Lenovo
announced a new think pad, like a super ultra thin, like top of
the line, state of the art think pad at CS today, still with
a little racer nub in the middle. Still, No, there's going nowhere.
The nub is eternal. Yeah. I did not manage to play a
lot of video games over the break, uh, for reasons that we will
get into as we head into the news. The news. Somebody get excited
about the news, thank you, while I bring up my thing. Here's
the article we need to have like morning radio call in response. You know,
things built into this show. Hit a button or something whatever, he
says the news. You go, hey, you know, and then I
just need to do a better job of getting simple note up on my phone.
Before we get to the segment, did you guys try to play Xbox
or PlayStation four from let's say the morning of Christmas Day through about two days
later? Yes, boy, that didn't work. Was that a shit show?
Xbox seemed to come up quicker than PS four did for me. PS
four came up and then went down again and was just spotty like and basically
on PlayStation four, it was saying I was logged in, but no services
were available. I would try to play games and be like, nope,
can't you call duty? Profile doesn't exist, homes Yeah, seriously, everything
was locked out the P four one. I couldn't get a friends list up.
Yeah, that sort of, but it was still I was logged in
right, like yeah, Like you would boot to the main PS four interface
and it seemed like it was fine until you noticed there was no number next
to your friend's icon. Yeah, and you couldn't access messages and blah blah
blah or a digital game. I couldn't get into any of that if I
was offline. Yeah, yeah, yeah, so if you were on a
if you were on a console that was not your home console, which I
was, none of your digital games were played, of course. Yeah.
I couldn't get to the cloud saves for any of the disc games I had
brought with me. Does it just say you don't have the license if you
try to play the little lock icon is on there? And I'm sure you
know the Xbox would have the same problem if you were on a separate Xbox
from your home one. Yes, that is how that well, they both
have the same limitation. Uh, and you know, there's it's hard to
it's hard to think of a better way to get around that. You know,
if you can designate the console that is your console, but be on
that right, you have to be able to sell here's my second home console,
and I want to play offline here too. But well then you're getting
two copies of every game and other people can play. I mean, if
you remember, that's how the PS three started out. In fact, it
was I think five machines, and then that just led to the neo thread
of people buying games for each other and sharing them. Uh so you see
how that went. But yeah, it is almost inconceivable that anybody listening to
this doesn't know what happened, but just in case, because it was on
the front page of CNN, it was on the nightly news of every major
network that night, which is kind of crazy actually to see it's it's a
Christmas story. Well sure, it became it's like a human interest like a
look they ruined Christmas type thing. Yeah, yeah, but it was.
It was a distributed denial of service against both online services. Yeah, very
targeted, you know, set out to do exactly what it did, which
was bring both services down. Botts Man on the day it mattered most Botts
they stole Christmas. Yeah, you know, I was busy with family stuff
on Christmas Day, so I didn't mess with any ton. I did run
downstairs when I saw the news reports hitting and tried to access some stuff.
Yeah. PS four was already totally down at that point. Xbox was like
barely creeping along, but I could tell it was on the way out too.
Did you guys mess with it, like right in the middle of the
bullshit? Yeah, Like, I didn't actually experience any Xbox outage. Really,
I wasn't playing a ton of Xbox One stuff, but I played around
that time and never actually had a problem. I never saw it down,
but I was like you, I wasn't trying as much on that console,
and by the time I did try, like late the next day, it
seemed to be more or less working. Yeah, although it was pretty slow,
but it was functional. It was close to seventy two hours after the
initial attacks before PSN came back up for me, though. Yeah, I
was seeing you continuing to have PSN tribals, like I wasn't having trouble at
that point. Yeah, but yeah, you were still out. I think
I was super still out, super fucking bummed because that was like the three
day window that I had to like all the family stuff was over as at
the end of the twenty fifth, and I didn't have to start worrying about
her, you know. The rest of the game of the year stuff.
I had to get done for two or three more days and then fly back
here the exact time, I had to do nothing to play games for like
three days. I couldn't play any of the games. It was lousy.
I just said, fuck it, I'm gonna boot up Steam. See this
new video card runs, which is too video card. You know. I
saw I saw some people gloating over the fact that their PC games were working.
But I mean, like Steam got hit with dds uh you know,
yeah, like they're like, no network on Earth is completely invulnerable to this
type of thing. It's just you know, it's it's about how you react
to it, right, that was the bigger that sort of thing, And
that's the sort of stuff where you look at like Sony's response or lack thereof,
it's like what how did Yeah? Like really that was yeah, because
I mean you can you can exactly the attack, You can understand exactly,
Like that's that's like you give them a pass for for like kind of direct
malice. But yeah, once the attacks are over and it's another two days
before your thing comes back up, at that point you're like, Okay,
what the fuck is your network built? What is going on here. The
server just become a fucking smoking crater in the ground, and like what happened
along the way that that it took that long to get it back up.
Saw a story on the Kataku Today quoting an anonymous Sony employee saying that,
I mean whatever, like you didn't know this was already happening, but sounding
like they're having internal conversations about beefing that stuff the hell up? Weird?
I wonder why, Yeah, who would have thought? I wonder where all
the computers in the buttonet are? Like where are the more well? I
mean, oh, you mean, like are they mostly in X country?
Right? Like? Is it all just like went unprotected Windows XP terminals in
Yes, I want to say that in this case would sell process I read
I read in some article I can't remember where that in this case. That
was one of the reasons it was so hard to fight this one off was
because a lot of the queries were coming from computers in the US, oh
so or ips in the US, I should say, or at least they
were proxied to look like they were in the US. I don't know,
called zombies what individual computers? Old computers? Yeah, I don't know,
I didn't know that there were still a lot of those. I don't know,
Drew, why don't you tell us left in id a hacking phase in
high school college era. I didn't do anything. I didn't doing any I
was. I did install a packett sniffer on my We had an internal network
in our dorm room, like a router to split the the internet and have
WiFi. So I installed the packet sniffer on my computer and then got my
roommates Facebook password was sent in the clear. This is like back when,
yeah when when Facebook was brand new. Yeah yeah, I was scandal yes,
got it, black hat. Oh boy, that's rough stuff. I
cracked some wet passwords in my neighborhood. Yeah, some war running air crack
on a laptop driving around fucking yeah. Yeah, that's my most recent dumb
shit. Yeah. I just find that's so fascinating. Yeah yeah, I
don't know it was. That was a very weird couple of days. They
were watching this happen and just go like, my god, man, these
like multi billion dollars monolithic corporations are fucking powerless right now. They're like held
hostage by these kids you know, who are playing Marvel contest of champions,
right, that's where they coordinate. Yeah, that's where their command and control
was taking place, where they do anything to make it better. They are
I was getting to that. I was trying to think if I guess,
there's not much else to say other than fuck that sucked. It's you know,
it's one of those things that, like so many of our problems in
this digital age, the Internet was built in a specific way for a reason.
Yeah, and to to take away the anonymity that you know that built
the Internet in the first place. I think ruins too much of it.
But at the same time, the lack of accountability lets people do a lot
of really truly horrible ship, and that is the crossroads where we are at.
And the more of the people abuse the Internet to do this sort of
ship, the stronger case people will have to control it and destroy it ultimately,
So I guess, be careful. I don't know. I get it.
On one level, it's fun to fucking do, it's fun to fuck
shit up. It's fun to find an abandoned car and set it on fire.
But but what if that kid was going to get an abandoned car for
Christmas? Exactly if someone was getting an abandoned car Christmas and you set it
on fire, That jud be probably a bad person. What if what if
three billion people rely on that car to get to school? Yeah uh yeah,
Yeah, it's fun to lash out of the corporations, but they're not
the ones feeling the brunt of the hurt. Whatever. Yeah, it's it's
a fucked up situation. Yeah, I saw last night our Modern Times.
Yeah, one of one of the members of Lizard Squad has been arrested in
the UK for real this time, because I thought that was thear is out
on bail now, but that was the whole Does the charges are the way
the Finest Squad claimed that this whole thing wasn't gonna happen because everyone was getting
popped. I don't want to pay too much lip service stuff. It's hard
to know if any of that very possible, that the Finest Squad is just
Lizard Squad. Yeah, and then what's the deal too? Where what's that
guy's name, Kim dot com or whatever? So Kim So that was the
thing I was gonna get to with this, Did you see that? Yeah?
So Kim dot Com supposedly his one real name. Yeah, he changed
it years ago. Really, Oh yeah, it's like a warrior. Yeah.
No, no, it's his last name is dot Com. So the
guy's name is Kim dot Com. Yeah that's correct. Okay, Uh didn't
he you can't run kimball dot a work way back when I met him.
Yes, he is a highly hughes has been in the past, a highly
ranked Called of Duty players. Yes, that's right. Yeah. So apparently
he wanted to play Destiny so badly on Christmas Day that he paid these guys
off with. It's not Mega upload anymore, right, it's doesn't have a
Mega Is it the same site though? No, because Mega upload got shut
the foot That's what I mean, Like he's the government. It's a different
site. Now Mega is in New Zealand and it's different company. But yes,
same shift, same thing. Anyway, he paid these guys in vouchers
for that site that apparently at resale value, amounted to something like three hundred
thousand dollars. Yeah. They were like megap privacy vouchers that were like fifty
bucks a piece or something, and so I forget what the numbers were,
but I mean I remember seeing that three hundred k was what these guys could
claim to be able to sell them for Uh so some people. Some people
were talking like that's why Xbox came up faster than PS four, So now
we're ransoming. Kim dot com was playing Destiny on the Xbox. I'd find
that hard to believe. This is even scarier scenario. Well, so,
yeah, they weren't ransoming at per se. But when this guy came along
to try to pay them off. Uh, you know that is supposedly when
this stop or why and why it stopped the future, it's really weird unless
he did it from the get go, unless he is sponsoring the hackers from
the past. Oh, I don't know, he's got enough. He's got
enough heat on him already, exactly. He doesn't need it. Were not
negotiate, got this weird songs? The dude, The fucking cyberpunk dystopia is
creeping closer and closer every day, and it's not as fucked up. It's
not fucked up in the ways I own. It's not. It's kind of
insane. It's like, yeah, there's kind of sad, like you like
your cyborg I implants are nowhere to be seen and instead it's just like it's
just bullshit, like this and I don't know, everything's too pretty give a
time, all right, we'll get there. Yeah, okay, I'm confident.
Yeah. So uh, to their credit, Sony issued a make good
because their service was down for it seems like ballpark three days ish. That
sounds about right. That's definitely what I experienced. So the two things they
are doing are extending five days of bonus service to PlayStation Plus members, sure,
which you know is more than enough to cover the outage. Uh,
and also offering uh so it's a ten percent discount code, and I want
to make sure that I'm clear on who's getting it. Is it just PlayStation
Plus members? Sometime this month, we will announce that for a limited time,
we'll be offering a ten percent discount code good for a one time discount
off a total cart purchase in the PlayStation Store as a thank you to all
PSN members. So all PSN members probably means that anybody who created an account,
right, so you know that seems reasonable to me, you know,
purchase yea, yeah, more than enough service to cover the outage, and
a fairly decent discount on a purchase. Uh, it's not that bad feelings
were hurt. Brad yeah, I know, you'll never get those days back.
Uh. Microsoft did nothing, but then again, it seemed like their
stuff worked a lot faster, So yeah, I guess. And there's precedent
for them doing the same in the past. You know, what was it,
two thousand and eight or nine? They have definitely had rough Christmases Call
of Duty. You know, player load has fucking submerged that network before.
Yes, they've given out free games and stuff in the past. I guess
they just did not think that it was necessary in this case. But keeping
with the theme of free stuff for screwing up? Uh, did you guys
cover the The Master Chief Collection Make Good last week? I don't think that
happened. I don't think we covered anything. Okay. Also, that podcast
got eaten well, even on them, even even on the follow up stream.
I don't think this had happened until after all that. I might be
wrong, but there's still the podcast in the room. Wait where you are
they under the table? Just kick them, cops conceived, fucking just hold
them down and beat them mercilessly. Uh. Master Chief Collection still messed up,
or has been messed up for quite a while, to the point that
they have come out with some pretty serious stuff for people who have played it
up to now. Uh so, yeah, Bonnie Ross who runs three four
three, posted this letter, so see if I can get all this straight.
Anybody who has played to the master Chief collection between the launch date of
November eleventh and the day this was announced, which was the nineteenth of December,
that's me. We'll be getting one month of Xbox Live Gold, an
exclusive endgame name plate, and avatar. I was there when it was fucked.
You wouldn't believe the shit I've seen, but this is fucking crazy.
They are going to remaster Halo three ODST and give it free to anybody who
qualifies from that period, which, you know, knowing how these things come
about, I'm sure they were working. Well. The name of the game
was Halo three to ODSC. Oh I thought you said, And no,
no, no, no, Halo three is in the collection. Yeah,
that's just the full title. You know, it's ODST. But you know,
you have to imagine they were already working on that thing and we're going
to sell it as DSc. So they just you know, made the executive
decision at the top level. Let's let's just give it free to whoever deserves
it, you know that. I think that's fine. But at the same
time, it wasn't like the game was one hundred percent fixed as of the
nineteenth. You know, there are some people that are encountering that game for
the first time on the twentieth sure, Like are they expecting that that thing
that only works if you remove the game from shells right and say like,
you know, okay, well now we're not at least we're not selling a
broken product anymore. Yeah, I kind of maybe they feel like their patches
have been enough to get it working for most players. That's you know,
though I don't know. I haven't I haven't tried it for myself. I
mean, they're implicitly saying with that cutoff that hey, we think the game
is fixed now and works. You know, I can. I can kind
of also see it from their perspective though, because if they had announced this
and said like you know, oh yeah, we got now, it's just
like people go out and buy it just well also like oh boo who at
the same time, yea by the game, like like woe was you?
You just sold another like fifty thousand copies of this thing or something, but
this broken fucking game. But you know, yeah, it's it's kind of
a sticky situation. But but yeah, yeah, you were getting the You're
getting the entire ODST campaign remastered in the same way that the rest of that
thing was for free at some point, uh this year except high to launch
broken something God like they'll have fixed the core game and that'll come out and
be like, oh well, we'll definitely come out later than it was going
to who knows what segment of that game's development crew is responsible for. And
then lastly, you're getting the Relic Halo two Anniversary multiplayer map. Does that
mean anything to you, Drew, because my understanding, my understanding was that
all the maps were already into some of them, they remastered some of them,
they made changes to geometry and made maps that are are similar. Okay
they're doing Okay, that makes sense. Oh yeah, you're right. Okay,
Yeah, we will remap, we will reimagine the fan favorite map Relic
fully remastered and running it to ADP sixty frames a second. Yeah. Uh
so I'm happy free, Drew. Yeah, thanks, free free map,
free campaign, free month of Live, some other trinkets. That's you know,
that seems pretty significant. All better, It still doesn't excuse the way
things happened. No, but but at least they brought it. I guess.
I guess. I don't know. I don't think the PlayStation Plus version
of Drive Club made it out, but they are selling d LC now,
so oh that just started. Well, last time I put it in,
it seemed to be fully funny. Yeah, I've seen people saying that it's
basically up to par or now. Yeah. Last I checked, which is
not that long ago. It's like a few days ago, the PS plus
edition was still not up hopefully soon on that one. And then they even
though the yeah, well who knows the ub Soft the assass Creed Unity free
game thing has also begun. That's out there. Yeah, I got a
code for yeah for what uh? They It was basically they sent an email,
You click through some stuff and you select a game. I picked fark
Right four. I had all the games that they were offering, so I
picked far Right four and posted on on my blog on Giant Bonds. So
someone someone got it. They gave out Steam keys, not just you play
keys. Uh, all right, Well, onto less shitty news. I
guess ce yes is happening. I thought you said less shitty well, there's
nothing out of CES, so rest easy. All right, Okay, you
don't have to put up with any of that bullshit. I haven't seen any
real like true consumer electronic show news. Well it's not really hasn't even started
yet. I feel like I know, like the Nvidio keynote was Sunday night.
I mean I thought Monday was the first day, but the keynotes are
was the night before. Oh I heard from CES was that tested dot Com
went to Lotus of Siam. Yes, I saw their plate or their table
full of inflates Las Vegas restaurant. Have you been. Yes, it's so
good. Is it really that good? It's pretty good, like I love
Thai food. I mean it's great. But I don't know, I got
I have to take your word for it. Yeah, okay, I believe
you. Well, this came out along with CEES. I don't know if
they're announcing it there or what the deal is, but Son, you put
out a press least that they were finally launching a subscription service for PlayStation now
remember that thing. Yeah, so this means it's finally coming out of beta
and I'm just gonna be out for really, I feel like it was it
was open beta technically, yeah, I don't. I don't see the word
beta mentioned in here anywhere, or you know, they don't say anything about
the beta ending. But you know the biggest problem was that the game pricing
was just completely insane. Yeah, you know, like they had you,
They had you paying almost as much for like a ninety days worth of the
game rental as you could just go out and buy the game on the PS
three four or is renting the game over their guy Yeah, this is there.
This is their their streaming. They're on live their guy ki type thing.
You know, we did, we did a quick look of of what
that's like. You know, it works. It's not one hundred percent ideal.
You can tell that you're playing a game with some latency. But you
know, for for most games, you wouldn't want to try to beat Mike
Tyson that way. You wouldn't want to play probably like online shooters or fighting
games that way. But you know, if you're the Street Rid four is
on the service, yeah, well maybe you know it's a little laggy,
but you know, if you were to say play remastered Metal your solid games,
that would probably be fun. We played a little da and it was
okay, but man, the minute that it would start buffering or something like
that, or the resolution went, I just think I would know I'd be
done when ye when the graphics chunk up and you start seeing the artifacting or
whatever. It's not great, but anyway, like they you know, they
finally have seemed to have sort of figured out what pricing should be on that
thing or well, you know, you'd be the judge. They do have
a monthly subscription option now it is nineteen ninety nine per month, and that
opens up the whole library, not the entire library. I've got the list.
Uh, it's it's it seemed like most of it from what I could
tell. I didn't like put the list side. Most of that those consoles
live, but most of the games that are on the service, most of
what's currently available on PlayStation now. Just kind of eyeballing this list, I
would say, the subscription list is mmmm, I would can you play three
games? Four half to two thirds? Yeah, that's exactly what this is
for. Although although there are other Sony devices that support this, Like,
aren't there shipping some Sony TVs? Now that's the idea, just the Defeta
TV or PlayStation TV support this, I believe, so okay, not positive.
If not immediately, then it's sometimes that they I want to say they
said it would do. Yeah. Some of the big names on the subscription
list Alpha Protocol Okay, Batman, Arkin City, BioShock Infinite, a bunch
of Blaze Blue stuff, both Darksider's games, Dirt three, Jeff Loves Doing
three, You Go, Infamous, Chain, and Lynch two Kills on three.
I mean, it seems like Odd Kane and Lynch two already has a
bunch of video artifacting as it's the main fucking visual element, like run it
through one more generation of that ship, it's just gonna be a fucking giant
gray block that versus at you. Some some weird stuff on here, like
okay, it's the Saints Row four Saints or the third full package you Go,
Shout Out of the Clausus Sonic CD. Yeah, that was that was
rereleased as a Yeah, I know, as a PSN game. I know.
It's just kind of weird to see on this list. It's it's a
weird list. Like the last Evis is on here, which is great,
but then only the first Uncharted game is on here. Can you sign up
for just like a month or two at a time. So there's well,
yeah, so it's you can sign up for it's twenty bucks a month,
or you can get three months at a time for forty five, which makes
it fifteen a month. Oh okay, actually, but they also they have
a seven day free trial. You can pop and play anything on the service,
okay, one time thing. Yeah, and all games are rentals.
Yes, well, you have access to all of them on the subscription list
as long as you've got the subscription active in your saves stay in the cloud
in case, like your subscription lapses and you want to come back. I
think that's how they handled it. I forget, I believe that's the case.
Yeah, make sure go back and look at that quick look. But
I believe they do keep your save. Yeah that's twenty a month. That's
two hundred and forty eight years. Yeah, it gets a little pricey for
maybe what's on there. Yeah, but it's fifteen forty five for three months.
Yes, okay, that seems like the sort of thing that like if
you're a PlayStation Plus member, they should knock it down even more a month
or if you're already giving them, Yeah, totally money totally. But for
me, it's more like beefing up the lineup on that service, Like get
gets two games on there at least, if not PS two and PS one.
You know, like I would say, like flesh out that library dramatically,
and then all of a sudden that thing gets a lot more attractive.
You know, give me Sony image Soft, Sega c D games, yes,
exactly, service perfect, maybe not hook don't hold your breath a tiny
little window, but it's nice to you know, it's nice to see them
at least trying to figure that thing out. Not just half of me when
that, when that the head dub first started about the awful pricing on that
thing, half of me wondered if that was the last we'd ever hear from
PlayStation now. Yeah, like they would just never do anything else with this.
One of the things they recommend you. You know, he's like,
you need to have a wired connection to make this thing work for reels,
which I mean theoretically isn't like eight to two eleven AC just as fast.
There's always going to be as fast as your internet connections, Like you have
a pretty bad internet connection and wired, yeah, there's there's always there's always
gonna be some latency with wireless and you know, yeah and stuff like that.
It's not exactly apples to apples, But I don't know. I played
it wirelessly and it was usable. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah,
it's more about like a secure connection than anything like you got a constant right
right, right right ability? Uh, yeah, I don't know, Like
you know, I guess I'm in a situation where I already own a lot
of games for old platforms, So like, I don't think that's a great
deal. But I guess if you, if the PS four is your only
means of playing games, maybe you sign up for a month of this and
fun with it for a while. I don't know, I don't know.
Sure it's weird, sure, Uh And then you know, not a whole
lot else happened over the holidays, it being the holidays, Uh except this
destiny leakue. Okay, let's hear it. Was it a league where someone
finally came out and said, like, yeah, you're right, it's fucked.
I'm working on it. I don't think that required any inside knowledge to
come to that conclusion. But I'm sure you've seen this image floating around of
this kind of no Business E presentation showing what the roadmap is for Destiny content
over the next year. Apparently this image popped up in October and nobody actually
saw it. It came out of some Italian forum, supposedly. I don't
know if I don't know if the idea is that the presentation itself took place
in Italy or if that's just you know, where the forum was, that
it's a document in Italian. Not well, no, but it's It's all
that's really on the slide is just the names of these expansions and stuff,
which could probably be in English either way. But people picked up picked up
on it. And it's a photo taken in a theater. You know,
you can tell you're sitting in somebody sitting in rows of people looking at this
thing. So it looks reasonably legit. But what it does is breakdown.
Here here's the roadmap. I'll just tell you so you know, the game
came out in September. Jack got it the first. The first two expansions
were kind of detailed right up front, you know, Dark Below came out
in December, ye, and then House of Wolves is the next one,
which I thought he had said at one point was coming in February, but
this, according to this thing, House of Wolves will launch March tenth,
which is a Tuesday, for what that's worth. That is their server reset
day. Yes, yes, so that works out, and we kind of
already knew what was going to be in that from other leagues and stuff that
have happened. Then it gets kind of interesting, because interesting insofar as you
want to know what the hell are going to do with destiny? Okay,
yep, I do whether or not you want to play it or do you
think it's good? You got to know, right, Expansion three four planets,
Yes, five dollars? Oh god, no, So okay, So
the next expansion after House of Wolves is uh uh? Do they have a
date on this thing? Let's see, there's a lot to keep up with
here, I'm sorry. So in the slide they're referring to this thing as
a Comet Comet, which initially, yeah, in the slide, it's listed
as a bigger expansion after House of Wolves, and it's listed as Commet colin
Plague of Darkness. It sounds like a planet, which a lot of people
initially took to think that there took to mean that this expansion was somehow like
based on a Comet or revolve around one or something like that. But then
a bunch of people did some digging into like public documents relating to the activision
Bungee deal yeah, and determined that Comet is just sort of their code name
for big kind of milestone expansions to the game. So that makes it seem
like the name of this thing is just going to be Plague of Darkness,
and that that's just some kind of category that is currently listed for September of
this year. Thanks for the heads up, Yeah, buckle up. Yeah,
you got that much time to get to light level thirty four. So
here's here's what it is supposed to do. Uh. Two new weapon types,
which I assume means like you know, things like shotgun and auto rifle
and fusion rifle. It will be two more of those things. We're talking
about the third expansion now, yes, which is again like I said,
it's supposed to be. They're positioning it as a much bigger thing. Three
new subclasses, so that would be one per class, a new base level,
uh, which let's see. I don't know if this was in a
separate leak, but I think what that's referring to is they're talking about moving
the actual base level up to thirty. Yeah, so you would get regular
experience and level your character thirty and the light on top of that, the
light and stuff would come into play after thirty twelve new story missions, new
strikes. That doesn't say how many all. I think somewhere else, I
saw like four new strikes, new PV, new PvP maps, a new
raid presumably involving the Hive taking place on one of their Hive ships, because
because Hive ship is listed as a new like location in the same way that
Earth and the Moon and Mars and such are, so a lot of warframe
novels are set on enemies. Yep. Uh, yeah, it's kind of
weird to me that they would do that and not like, you know,
you could go to one of the moons of Mars or you know, there's
lots of other actual land masses that you could do, or even like another
Earth location. No whatever, man, you know that give me some Yeah,
a ship that sounds cool. Sure, a ship sounds cool, But
like I would be stoked to see something else on Earth. You know.
It's like, let's go fucking run around New York and see what that looks
like, or you know, there's a lot that crisis. There's a lot
that could have done if you want to see me anyway. Yeah. Also,
that September is when the PlayStation exclusive stuff is supposed to also kick over
to the Xbox. Sounds like they will be shipping a Game of the Year
version of the game with that thing and the previous two expansions all rolled in
number number ten Yeah bullet, Yeah, one of the ten best games twenty
fourteen. Ship. And then they're saying another expansion pass after that for two
more expansions of the size of like the one that just came out first of
which will be VEX themed. Uh. And then the last one is called
Forge of Gods, which you know, it doesn't say much about that,
but it sounds like it's based on the Cabal, which is the one race
that hasn't really been featured much in this stuff. And then you have to
wonder. Uh Okay, actually I don't have to wonder, because it says
right here after that, after that, fourth of the smaller expansions says late
twenty sixteen or early to mid twenty seventeen, as Activision's contract requires a sequel
to Destiny is released. Yeah, players can transfer characters over from Destiny one
to Destiny two Center, et c. So that if if that's how they
handle it, as a like a transfer characters over from two instead of it
being one cohesive universe. Yeah, I think it's really disappointing. Yeah,
I'm kind of with you, uh, although I don't know what I mean
to be seen, Like what they would even do with that old content if
it was all are you talking about, like you would buy Destiny two and
it would install under the banner of Destiny on your console. I think that's
exactly how this. I would like that too. I would prefer to have
like a World of Warcraft style thing that just builds on itself. Sure what
it sounded like, Yeah they were talking about. I mean it would be
nice to have access to aff I have to put in an old disc to
access old worlds and old story missions and stuff like that. I think they've
fucked up. Yeah, you're probably right, and you know, like yet
another way. Yeah, and you know, World Warcraft has gotten a lot
of mileage out of old content by giving you like the heroic versions of the
raids and stuff like that. You know, like you let people go back
and do those things again at a really high level, and it seems valuable
to people. I'm with you, it would be nice to see that happen.
But I don't know. Four small expansions and one big one and that's
the end of the story on Destiny. I think that it makes sense for
them to do, Like, you know, obviously they're not going to make
Destiny an annual game because Bungee is not an annual studio. Yeah, but
I think that having like a content drop at about the one year mark,
yeah, it makes perfect sense that is larger than an expansion, and then
provide two more expansions off the back of that as a kind of Destiny one
point five, I think is sensible for a game with the lifespan that they're
talking about. Like that all sounds plausible, I'll say that much. Sure,
and consistent with what they've done up to this point. Sure, but
I've not done much up to this point. No, you're right, so
it's kind of hard to you know. It kind of this kind of dashes
my hopes that this game would ever become like the kind of wider world that
you would want out of this style of you know, like a questing in
loot game like like Wow, or even Borderlands or something like. You want
to feel like there are a lot of different places you could go and a
lot of different things you could do at one time, right, like having
one zone that is connected to another one of this walk from one's own hip,
Like it would be nice if there were two raids at the same time
and you can kind of decide what you wanted to focus on, right sure,
Like wow does it you know? Whereas like this thing, it's like,
oh, it's one raid per expansion, so everybody's going to be doing
in the exact same thing at all times and have the same weapons at all
times. And you know, in a game that's not going to have the
player base is something like World of Warcraft, it probably makes sense for them
to focus characters players around the new ship. Yeah, and maybe that'll be
a case against keeping Destiny one content and Destiny two content separate, because you'll
get to a point where you go to match make for old strikes and not
find anyone. Sure, sure, yeah, I really do hope they find
a way to keep that stuff consistent. First of emails of twenty fifteen.
It's time to read them all right. Emails Emails bombcasttgibomb dot com is the
email address where you can send the emails in this brave new future of hours,
I love it where electronic communication has been enabled from place to place between
distant locations ones and zeros. You can send an electronic mail and it will
get here in seconds. It's incredible. Make sure you type mode binary,
otherwise you're downloading a text fu Yep, yep, all right. First email
comes from Brian and Indianapolis, who says was Vinny Wright. No, I
don't know, stay tuned. During the first BombCast of twenty fourteen, Vinny
said, you know, I don't want to be a bummer here, but
does anyone feel like twenty fourteen is just the holding pattern or excuse me,
the holding period for twenty fifteen? How fucking right was he says Marian.
Yeah, I guess I could kind of see that. A lot of games
got delayed. Yeah, a lot of just bullshit to wade through there,
you know, and a lot of just kind of delaying weird transitional period into
the next gen, a lot of a lot of general fuckery and strife that
feels like will come out the other end of better for in a weird way,
I think a lot of people expected this to be or twenty fourteen to
be the year that they got a lot of use out of their new consoles.
Though, because I remember twenty thirteen, it's like, yeah, the
libraries aren't great right now, there's not much to play. But next year,
next holiday, that's all the real stuff's gonna come out. And now
we are waiting for for another year. Yeah, I remember. I think
a year after the three sixty came out was like, all right, now
we're now, we're picking up speed. Here we go. I saw him.
But yeah, has not been the case a year after the three sixty,
I mean we already had oblivion and Gears of War was like several months
after. But yeah, like I know, I've I know, I've hammered
the Gears example ad nauseum. But like Gears in this example, Gears came
out six weeks ago. So think about that, Like, if we had
had our Gears of War moment on these machines, it would have happened already,
did we. I don't know. The sunset over drive your Gears of
War moment for the Xbox one, not not so much is drop keep it
coming? Yeah, keep it coming your Gears of War moment? For no,
all right, we'll take a third party. Is Destiny your Gears of
War moment? Nah? Nope, nope. Gears War was fulfilling and engaging.
Gear's War looked fucking amazing and it came out and I mean, yeah,
blah blah, kill switch or whatever, but like it was, you
know, yeah, it still felt fresh, like it was doing stuff that
you hadn't really seen the co op online like, yeah, like did it
better than any of us that proceeded it. It was this was this whole
marriage of like incredible graphics and like online features and new gameplay mechanics, and
it's just like, wow, video games are here, and it was not
an Unreal tournament game, which is scary and weird for a while, and
you're like, no, okay, all right, all right, these big,
thick, unreal looking dudes can told chains all guns. I guess that's
fine, let him talk, sure, give him a dog. I don't
know who knows what they should make a new Unreal Championship. I think did
you ever play on Real Championship too? As? Yeah? Played as rating?
What was weird? Oh? Yeah, he was in that. Yep,
yeah, that's pretty cool. He was blitz. He was Yes,
rating gets around. I don't know if you've heard cool dude. He's a
god of the thunder god. Yeah, he gets his he knows what to
do. I sort of felt like you know, Dan on twenty fourteen when
assembling my top ten Games of the Year list. But then once I had
written it all, I was like, all right, some good games came.
Yeah, there's like an individually some really good games. I just don't
feel like the overall it wasn't an embarrassment of riches like last a few years.
No, I didn't feel like there were a lot of standout classics.
Yeah, well you usually get all right, James from Gosport in the UK.
One wish for the New Year, If you guys could have one game
industry related wish come true starting from January first, twenty fifteen, what would
it be? I think mine would be for Valve to finally step up and
address the elephant in the room. They're awful worst in industry support infrastructure.
That's not what I thought he was gonna sit at all. What I thought
he was gonna say when I first read this Anyway, thanks for reading,
and hope you all have an amazing new year. I've never had to engage
team support, so I didn't know that it was thought to be that terrible.
I don't know, I don't know, and say that I have I
thor all right, well, hit me with your wishes. What what one
thing? I want a remastered version of WF WWF No Mercy and WrestleMania two
thousand. Still I don't know if you can have booth just one same thing
pretty much package deal. Alright, alright, I want the next big single
player Mario game, like the successor to Galaxy Too, like big, Like
I know three D World is awesome, but I want the next official Mario
games. Say, and you guys are thinking small, just want new games
like I want Middle of Your Solid five to come out, Like that's that's
hardly gonna happen this year. Yes, they said it would. I just
wanted to super happen and and sooner like like damn it, like next week.
What if you could wish for like I want Dan's wish, can't I
want to? I want to wish for unlimited game wishes. There you go,
that's a good idea. I've gone and done it. You know what
my wish is to never hear the words half Life three again until there's a
half Life three. It's not bad. Yeah. I wish for the bandwidth
infrastructure to grow at such a rate that are all digital nightmarish future can come
to pass. Yeah, that's a good one. And player counts can be
higher than sixteen yeah on consoles. Okay, that's a good one. Yeah.
I want robust multiplayer great experiences. Okay is that informed? Is that
informed by your recent hassles? Maybe? Yeah? Okay, Well some of
these wishes at some point, shouldn't we just settle for? Like it'd be
great if every game that ship this year I fucking worked as advertised? So
what I changed my mind? I'll sacrifice my wish on that altar. Yeah,
I wish that every game, that every product that ships this year works
as advertised. How about that? All right? Then I'll wish for halfway
through. Damn uh all right, I had somehow I have thumbed my way
out of the emails. Give me a second, Well, I find the
next one. Uh, here we go. What is ice climber? Says
Robert R. From Lah. Yeah, that's a great question. What is
Ice Climber? The characters were in that Smash Brothers game, so they must
be kind of popular, right, Yeah, how was the game received?
Was the game of critical or commercial success? Did it have any noteworthy mechanics?
It sold twenty seven million copies? And back in the eighties, do
you guys actually have an opinion about Ice Climber? Does anyone care about Ice
Climber? What is Ice Climber music? This play is the music, and
Ice Climber that plays when you're in the bonus stage is fantastic. That game
is not fun, though I liked it time. Man, I was a
sucker. I was an idiot kid that just liked every game I could play
back then, and even then, I remember thinking the kidd i Chris and
Ice Climber were the two like first party Nintendo games that, yeah, these
aren't that fun. Ice Climber was co op, you know, it was
better fucking Snow Brothers. Snow Brothers. Well, yeah, Prince Nick and
Tom the Snowbros. Yeah, of course, Ice Climber really hard. It's
not like known for being super harder. But the platforming is weird. It's
just the jazz fields jumping in the player movie Sword of Sucks. It's like
Ghosts and Goblin's Jumps where it feels so restrictive. And I think I was
getting get confused with Splunker in terms of difficulty. No, yeah, Splunkers
fucking hellish nightmare like Spelunky look easy. Yeah uh yeah. Ice Climber kind
of like came and Win, right they never made anything else? Oh yeah
yeah. Actually, to me, Ice Climber and Wrecking Crew are the two
games that are just like in and out Boom boom. Maybe maybe Urban Champion
and mock Rider are on that list too. Balloon Fight is just jousted and
it's great. Ye, How long until the Wrench from Wrecking Crew is have
a Smash Brothers game. I'm surprised they haven't. Great, that's the kind
of deep cut I want. Get a Smash Brothers game. Fucking Wrench,
that fucking thing you make your own levels, that's a great idea. And
Wrecking Crew and Iceland not a mock Rider. Mock Riders this piece of shit.
And mock Rider is the first game I returned out of it being garbage.
I got it as a gift and said, fuck, this can do
that. Back then, Yeah, yeah, yeah, before, Yeah,
because you could. It will take stuff back for any reason within thirty days.
It's like, why are you changed back? Because it sucks. Shit,
he's pretty awesome. Yeah, there's some good music in there, but
seriously, fuck mock ck Yeah that's pretty shitty. All right, Well it's
on the record now. They should have made a sequel to Ice Climber.
Also, the two characters didn't stick together like they do in Smash Brothers.
It was just a two player co op game, so they just have different
colored parks. Yeah, it's like a blue, like a pinkish reddish.
There's a big mean bird at the top of the level. Yeah, you
had to jump up and grab onto get the bonus. Most video game birds
are assholes. I mean this was established its well, you know what the
best name for a video game bird is, say, Mario Brothers too.
It's the albatross that throws bombs and his name is Albatass. Yeah, right,
name for that thing. Yeah, I think you've brought that up on
this podcast. I really like Alba. I'm not blaming you. I'm not
saying I'm just you know, I'm saying that's how I know you. Really,
that's a good name. I understand the full strength of your conviction on
this opinion that that's the best name for a bird that tosses in a video
game. Out with us and I have. I find it hard to disagree
with you. Burdo's pretty good, Burto Burgo's not even a bird? Yeah,
how did I think about it? Fry guy? Mouse is a mouse?
Isn't a fry guy that? It's a flame with sunglass? A living
flame? Is it fry guy or is it Flamer? I can't remember a
mouse her. It's an arcade game called pop Flamer, where you're a mouse
with a water tank on your back and you gotta go shoot at fires.
It's pretty good, Okay, it's fraga, Okay, Flamer. I'm pretty
sure I was wondering if fry Guy was the isn't at the McDonald's McDonaldland.
Okay, but then there's also shot guys. That's true. Although Flame with
Sunglasses is the coolest of all three though. It's pretty good. It's pretty
good, nothing shy about being on fire, and then it turns into four
little flames that chase your hand. It's a scary boss fight. It's fucked
up. Travis and Chicago shouldn't Warrio actually be Wa Mario? If we go
buy Wa Luigi being the evil version of of Luigi, please help. Warrio
was first and he just turned the W or the M upside down. Well,
then why isn't it just Wouigi? Because that sounds stupid? You sound
stupid? Take that got you there? I don't know. Wall Luigi sounds
much funnier and Warrio makes more sense. I think it's it's I think I
think Way Luigi is funnier. There's some Japanese pun with what is as bad
as the adjective bad bad or even so there is that. But also I
just like the I also just like the I like the really literal idea that
they couldn't think of anything other than to put Wa on the front of his
name to make him bad, and they just turned the L upside down because
they already had an upside down him. It's great. When are they gonna
have an evil princess Peach and an evil toad? Oo complete? What would
evil toad be like? Would he be like tall and lanky or would he
come on Peach? This is well established what toad. I think he'd just
be like the poisonous mushrooms the purple one. Yeah. Perfect, and he's
got a goatee and angry eyes. Yeah he's no captain, that's for sure.
No, he's not. I need to play more of that game.
Good. I want to see them like spin it back around again and have
ma Wario like the good version of Argo. Oh man Luigi m hm,
oh boy. Michael writes in about a feet of strength, Hey guys,
second, phone books is a trick. He just fucking you. Gotta prep
the phone books first. Next question, no, no hold on for this
one, hey guys, sending this on Christmas Eve. This question came up
while giving my wife a Footmos Christmas. If you had to, could you
pull off someone's finger or toe with your bare hands? I mean like,
I mean, like off bare handed. My wife and I both think yes,
yea toe. It's too short and you couldn't get a good grip on
it, right, yeah you I mean not in just one yank you would
have So I do a lot of back and forth, like God, I
don't I wish I hadn't brought this up. Now, really rerenched out of
there. Once you break the bone, you know the rest is coming.
Fashes. Yeah, now that I'm imagining the mechanics of this, like if
anything, if anything, you'd want to break the bones so savagely that you
could then use the point of the bone to kind of pierce the flesh.
Yeah. Yeah, because I don't know that you're just gonna rip the flesh
by you with the strength of your own You can't bite, no, okay,
he says, pull off someone's finger or toe with your bare hands.
Yeah, I don't think so. You're not getting a toe. I don't
think so either. Ducks, I can pull your favor of right now?
All right, I bet you can't. I don't think you can't. Well,
in uh, in the book that one hundred and twenty seven Hours is
based on, he has to like cut almost all the way through his arms.
Yeah, but it didn't he have like climbing gear or something. He
had a dull pocket knife. God's fun. Fuck would like human strength just
like me pulling Dan's finger. Yeah, do it. The book is called
Between a Rock and a Hard Place God, that's yep. Yeah. I
don't think it's possible. I don't either. I think it's only not possible
if you're putting like time limits on it or trying to get it all in
one one tug. Yeah, I give it a couple of days. You
can tug it as long as you want. You're eventually gonna get results.
I don't know potensil strength of skin. Yeah, I don't like this so
much. I'm getting light. Eventually you break the bones well enough that you
can just spin the whole thing around and keep spinning that skin. Eventually,
he's gonna break. Michael from Fuller to California writes in The Skin Spinner.
He's escaped from prison. He's on the loose the asylum. Michael as a
question about backwards compatibility and ripping human flesh. I mean, uh, he
asks, is the reason that we are seeing a lot of rereleases of season
of American Horror Stories weird? Uh? Yes. He wants to know if
the reason that we're seeing lots of rereleases of previous gen console games is due
to the fact that the systems aren't backwards compatible, so there's a market for
those games that would normally be filled by the backwards compatibility. I feel like
I'm sure that helps, yeah, but I feel like the primary impetus is
like, oh God, we gotta get some games out and make money.
Those are cheap projects. Yes, those are Yeah, like the old Man,
those consoles sold pretty well. Yeah, we should probably put some stuff
out so people buy games for it. Also, these new games were making
are taking way longer than we expected and cost a lot to make. We
should put some stuff out. I mean, they'd have a lot harder time
getting away with this stuff if the backwards compatibility, Like you know, a
lot of people would opts to just put in their old copy and play that
again. But but I don't think the primary motivation is there's no backwards compatibility,
so let's capitalize. It could be wrong, Jason, how many times
would you say you've bought some form of street Fighter two, some fourm of
street Fighter two, cross the board, downloadable cartridge, Super Nintendo remakes over
ten Yeah, yeah, okay, yeah yeah really yeah. I'm sitting here
and trying to think how many different versions there have been now, unless I
mean, are you counting like every iteration of Turbo and Super and Super Turbo
all street Fighter two? Yeah, anything in the separate products that have street
Fighter two every name. If we're talking about like street Fighter four or something
like that, that's like I've I've bought everything you know from you know,
PS three to Xbox three S and PC stuff, So all those iterations hundreds
thousands of dollars probably between what that game and like joysticks and ships thousands.
Yeah, holy moly, Yeah, there's been a lot of money invested.
You forgot some news, fer it's a lot of street fighter. Yeah,
what's that? You forgot some news? What news did I forget? Stern
announced that they're making a WrestleMania pinball machine. I didn't see that, but
please go on. Yeah, they're showing it at CES. Okay, it
is the one piece of CS news the matter see that they are making.
They have gotten the ww E license and they're making a pinball machine that has
John Sina brock Lessner at all on the backglass and it has a wrestling ring
in the on the playfield. Okay, how is it going to be just
focused on the current product, because I feel like there's so much you could
do if you can go back to the pro edition version of the so that
it's not only it's not enough that they're making a pinball machine that is expensive
on its own, they then go make a limited version of it. On
top of that. They do this with all their tables and they limited one
is signed by hul Cogan. Wow is he in the table anyway? I
don't know, he's not on the back. Is this the first? Like
this can't be the first wrestling thing? There's a royal rumball, pinball table
or something. People that like wrestling now like this wrestling the most. I
would say, children. Well, I mean they're kids, it's all they
know, those idiots. I don't Well, I mean, are you talking
about just WWE, because there's a lot all kind of popular wrestling, but
you know, mainly since it got really big in the eighties. I mean,
like, is that era you know, it is the kind of the
Hogan era. It's still looked back on as like the era No, no,
because it was just filled the giant idiots like Hercules Hernandez that couldn't move
around at all, and they just were big and that's the whole reason they
got hired. But match Man, oh yeah, that's you had the Macho
Man's and the rocky steamboats and the beginnings of Bret Harts and Sean Michael's Big
boss Man. Yeah, he's for a big guy. He could County Georgia.
Yeah, just officer that was kind of war police officers uniform he did.
Yeah, and then when he turned evil, he just had like a
black iron chic. Yeah. I think the in ring product, Roddy Roddy
Piper, those are those are fucking names. Okay, yes, you are
right, but also Stone Cold, Steve Austin and the Rock. Yeah,
I guess I don't know, you know, I feel like, you know,
and I'm not I'm the fairest of fair Weather Wrestling fans or whatever,
but I don't feel like I don't feel like a lot of the big names
have had the kind of over the top flamboyance that those guys had, you
know, like those were some real fucking characters. Well. Yeah, part
of the problem in like the two thousands was that like all the top guys
were just hey, here's a dude and underpands. That's yeah. Like the
current product is influenced by you know, mixed martial arts and that sort of
stuff to some extent where and also just like the general intelligence of the audience
to some extent, Like you can't put it over on the kids like you
used to be able to, where like you know, you probably had some
people thinking the Undertaker was real and and you know, like that because because
he was surrounded by a cast of increasingly insane characters that were also supernatural and
weird, Whereas now it's, yeah, you know, you got guys wrestling
under their real names because that's what UFC is, and that's you know,
like the other stuff is too far fetched to to that's just more down to
audience taste than like, you don't have to be fooled by something to be
able to enjoy it. And it's true occasional things they're like Bray Wyatt can
summon like Holly Graham ghosts with his magical There is so fucking weird dumb shit
in there still, but you know, generally speaking, Sergeant Slaughter, Yeah,
fucking drill instructor wrestles, Yeah no, And the was awesome, fucking
christ Man unbeatable and then he turned evil. Yeah, Iraqi sympathizer, Sergeant
Slaughter think about that. Yeah, what a great turn turn time for our
country. Oh man, I just this just makes me realize that more and
more that the focal point of all of my wrestling fandom comes down to playing
that fucking arcade game that was a Saturday night Slam Masters and a Pizza Hut.
Yeah, it's like that game is wrestling to me, Slam Masters,
Slam Slamsters, the Capcom Wrestle Fast Rustle, the Royal Rumble Game. I
think who made the Was there a Data East game? Yeah, Data Well
Technos made him, or maybe it was Technical I don't know. I forget
which one it was. But Russell Fast was along the big like super Beefy.
That might it was mister perfect holding put a hand on his when he
was hurt. That might have been the one. That's wrestling and Andre and
Virgil I remember, we're like the story focused like they did something evil and
you had to work your way up and beat them, like he put a
bounty out for you or something something like that. Wrestling, it's pretty cool,
is Don't worry. It's twenty fifteen and somewhere Jeff Jarrett is still recovering
after having hit someone in the head with a guitar Japan. In Japan at
this time, are you are you guys in on that now? I saw
Alex's subscribed, you know, so that this this thing that just happened in
Japan over the weekend Kingdom was Yeah, it was aired on on American pay
per view with English commentary Ross commentary, Yes, huh, that man's got
a bird spitting image of arn Anderson. He did say, yeah, oh
my god, it need d We'll have more to say about that show in
the power. I'm you didn't like we call that a frog splash. I
don't care what you call. Jesus, this guy looks like it, you
know, a young ricky steamboat. It's like you could hear Matt Striker rolled
like I felt bad for Matt Striker, which how often can you say that?
Anyway? Well, yeah, well all right, let's steer away from
this a whole separate podcast. We're talking about down fucking train wreck. All
right, all right, Adam writes in pretty short to the point subject line.
Also, all these all these sentences are ended with question marks subject line
sweary and Dan's mom, and then in the body they go on with like
success question marks after it, I'm driving, but the seems important. They
totally did it. There's they did? Wait did it? Did what?
I didn't hear about that one? My mom? We were trying to keep
it from you. Oh okay, no, it's it was just one of
those weird moments to where I was up here looking for apartments when I knew
I was going to be moving up here, and my mom came up to
help me look around, and I knew some folks that were out of the
bar, and I went up and met up with them, and swear He
was with them, and I just remember, like the idea of my mom
and Sweary being at a bar together drinking beers and like talking to each other.
It was just the weirdest, dumbest thing. And this like, you
know, my mom, who's a waitress in Kansas, the entire time I
grew up and then Sweary at a bar. I mean, there wasn't anything
super crazy that I happened. It's just one of those things, right to
stand back and look at and be like, so, this is what's going
on now the sides of the planet. Like the two most opposite people there
ever could be just drinking beers together in San Francisco, which was great.
Pretty there's a picture of them together together in San Francisco. That's me.
That's pretty great, short on short on insanity, but still nothing crazy,
but pretty, you know of pretty endearing. H Calum from Melbourne in Australia.
You know, Okay, I've heard of it Melbourne. They let him
write letters over there, I guess, so, all right, good behavior
and all that. Yeah, cautionary tale. I don't know how this will
play out in other regions. And I hadn't heard this, but it seems
crazy. New three DS does not come with a charger. What did we
know that Nintendo has done that before? But in this country? But yes,
they they there is a history, I believe. I want to say
that the history of Nintendo shipping a platform without the ac adapter doesn't seem like
something in the box get away with here necessarily, but that is not something
they could get them out. And then that thing, you know, for
people who don't know that thing is out in New Zealand and Australia. Really
yeah, it came out like a month ago. Oh yeah, for whatever
reason, that's the first territory outside Japan that it's shipped in. Why not
you know those guys something first for change, even if it's just the new
three DS. Yeah, sure, I'm gonna buy one of those. Well
yeah, of course, but like there's like a game announced for it,
right, I'll play old games on it. I don't know if you don't
play zena clash. But are you gonna play old games and go like this
still is in three D? Put it in a case and yeah, there
you think about it once in a while. That's what my current three DS
is doing. Yep, I'll read the email, even though I feel like
we've kind of covered it. This Christmas, I received a fancy new three
DS as a gift. Fortunately, it was a replacement for my launched three
DS, so I had power power cable I could use charge it up.
The new three DS does not come with an act a USB cable you could
plug into an adapter or any other equipment that could charge its battery. The
instruction manual recommends you purchase one with the console or use a cable from another
three DS. The console retails for two hundred and nineteen dollars here in Australia,
XL is two forty nine. However, the luxury of being able to
charge it will set you back another fifteen If you want one of those little
charging cradles that shipped with the Launch three DS, that's fifteen dollars. Again.
This is perhaps the sleaziest thing I have ever seen Nintendo do, and
I'm sure many people were caught out Christmas morning without a charger. Can you
think of any other game companies that have made similarly sleazy decision. I'm actually
surprised that it shipped like this in a territory outside Japan. Yeah, that's
interesting, right, I mean I'm crazy. You think the thinking is that,
at least in Japan, everybody already has a three DS. No,
I think that just in Japan, they're used to putting up with total bullshit
and this has happened before, so you just know to get one or they
Yet they have to put a sign up. I'd imagine, you know,
in any territory thing but a sign says, motherfucker you need power. Yeah,
yes, like they should make it very clear. Like it almost reminds
me of like what was the first console to ship without a pack end wasn't
he would be the PlayStation Saturn. I know the PlayStation didn't have one.
I think I had like a demo disca Saturday Saturn. I want to say
Saturn. I don't think it did. No, it's not Satura came with
Virtue. No, they eventually packed in remix. Yeah, I don't think
it can't we snass Genesis turmographics all head back ends. Yeah. I think
it came with Virtue of Fighter one. I think the Saturn launched with VF
one as a pack end. I could be fucking crazy. I don't know.
Could it have been virtual a cop Maybe Nope, because that requires like
it wasn't It wasn't virtual racing nope. Or Daytona or something, right,
wasn't They wouldn't pack in Daytona, would They don't think there was a pack
end? Maybe not anyway. I mean the point is it was around that
time when packend stopped and it was like the reck scrash moment of like,
wait, I gotta remember to buy a game. I gotta save up money
beyond the console so I actually have something to play on it. I played
a PlayStation demo disk for like two months, really actually had a game,
really, no shit. I selected Toshndon as my game purchase and ESPN Extreme
Games yep, yeah, Bridge Racer Man, come on right yeah? Because
techn was not a launched Yes, Techen was later, so I guess thank
you, Federal Trade Commission. Yeah, I don't. I don't know what's
up with this. This is weird. I wonder if it'll surely it'll ship
here with some kind of power. Yeah. Uh, although I'm almost surprised
they haven't started just shipping. Well, the Vita guests did more or less
exactly this, like just shipping USB cables for charging. I mean, granted
the Vita came with a brick, right yeah. Uh. In addition,
but you know the ubiquity of USB as such that you almost get away with
that. At this point, what are you looking up over there? I
was trying to look up at games. I can tell if something is happening.
I'm trying. I'm trying to look up packing games, but this page
is not. Do you think any packing has had the impact of WE Sports?
I mean, no, one's gonna doubt that, Like Mario World is
a billion times better as a game. You're talking and talking like cultural h
like kind of yeah, the cultural response and the ability to move more consoles,
getting the system into people's houses and demonstrating what's the pros of the system.
Yeah, we sports without a doubt. I think I don't think anything
touches that combat. I say, Tetris on Game Boy, Oh that was
that was up there? Yea, oh fuck, I forgot to buy Tetris
on the fucking shop before they delicted it. Anybody get it? Oh?
No, that the game the game Boy, the game Boy version of Tetris
was removed from the virtual console. I already have a copy of that.
I meant to buy it on three DS, just because I mean, why
wouldn't you? Yeah, touches, have you have you satisfied curiosity? Nope?
I have not found the answer, no question, specifically looking at multiple
database pages Saturn, specifically packing games and for the Saturn and did not.
I'm going I'm looking at my phone. So may if I opened up my
laptop and do some power users, I guess stuff. Sure, Dan might
be right because I remember like a white sleeved demo disc for Saturn, like
amoa, I remember a white sleeve, like a white sleeved Virtual Fighter one
or maybe that's Saturn. Are you sure VF wasn't after the fact, like
once they realized they're getting their asses handed to him by PlayStations and they had
to do something by Saturned before the PlayStation was available. Really, any of
you other guys get early Saturns? You never had a Saturn? Yeah,
I didn't get an early one. I was given one by a friend years
later, I had a I had a buddy that imported one. Yes,
I knew some Saturn importers. I didn't like that guy, but damn if
I didn't go to his ass every weekend, that's pretty good. He might
be listening right now. PlayStation first, Twisted Metal was that a that that
wasn't a launch game? Wasn't It might have been a launch game, but
yeah, I played it at a blockbuster after PlayStation A Destruction Derby or Demolition
Derby was a Destruction Derby or is Destruction Derby? That was a launch game?
Right? It was super early because I got mine early and the three
I got were Twisted Metal, the First tech In and Destruction Derby. Those
are the three games I got, and Destruction Derby was good and early.
Yea, uh yeah, there's a Jewel case version of Virtual Fighter on the
Saturn that was packed in with the system. I'm pretty sure that's what I
have, But at launch, I'm pretty sure that I have. Then later
they did a three free games promo once like shit was starting to get a
little hairy. Yes, did that have a stall in it? I don't
know what that end? That was a two D platform, Yeah, I
remember that who made that? That was? Ah? No? Or was
a clockwork night that was included? Oh it's like giving away a big let's
let's piece of garb. Yeah, poove on a disc. This is getting
silly, all right? Uh this comes from user name. The three pack
was VF two Virtual Cops and Daytona. That's a lineup. You want to
buy a thousand of them? This guy's selling them on eBay for five grand.
Thousand? Were they like the three three and they weren't three retail games?
Was it some kind of like you got the full size case everywhere like
three free games. No, you did not get a full size case of
the sleeve. Or but they were the full games not demo. Yeah you
know, but I mean you didn't get the retail packaging. And I'm saying
no, no, no, But this guy is a thousand of the East
fucking Maybe I should go on. No, you have to buy all thousand.
Oh it's a lot. Yeah, fuck five grand. You can get
a thousand. That seems steep, stocking stuffers for the rest of your life.
Five grand seems free. Sega Saturn Games is an outlandish for that three
great Sega Saturn Games, Like he should be paying you to get all that
shit out of his house. That's ridiculous. Five thousand dollars with the fuck
get a thousand of them? You really think those things are worth five bucks
a pop? No, come on, but you get a thousand of them
like sealed mint, like you know new Like, where the fuck are you
gonna get those? I mean, if you're gonna tell me that you're gonna
mail one to Dave Lang every day for the next what three years? I
mean, I'm not gonna do that, but someone probably should. I don't
know. Oh, you're probably right. Uh. User name Riven aka Defiant
with a pH. Just so he knows who he is. He included his
real name and occupation, which is really cool, but he asked not to
read it on the air. But thanks for writing in man. He wants
is he a phone freaker? Is that he's got the pH? And though
no, he's he's he's serving the nation by building red box yep. He
writes about ten you okay, Uh specifically want to consider himself dishonorably discharged,
specifically wanted to know where the hell it is? Uh? Ten You was
a game I love and I used to always look forward two. Where the
hell are the new Tensu games? Why did they stop getting made? Is
there a chance we might see one on the Xbox One? Or PS four
Assassin's Creed. Sorry, let's just finish the email. Slass Creed doesn't really
fill the gap, and neither due to the dark Souls sque games. Uh?
Come on, where are my deliberate ninja games like Tenshu not spastic games
like the Guidance series. They put out a shitty three sixty one. It
was a downloadable game. It's called like Tensu z X or something, and
I remember it really was disappointing good and prior to that, I don't know.
Yeah, Shadow tens You Shadow Assault I believe was the download the Did
we look at that? When did that? There's a Shadow Assault on the
x Yes, that's a downloadable Xbox game, Tensu Shadow Assault. And then
TENSI Shadow Assassins came to PSP and we in two thousand and eight. I
think I do remember that, and then that game I believe was the cord
of this was originally released. A Tensu four is the one called ZX or
something. I don't know why you're thinking of ninja guidance yabu no no,
and then specifically think that like maybe two thousand eight, two thousand and seven,
I could have sworn it was at Tension this Tenshu Z for the Xbox
three sixty's yeah, that's it. So the series has not been entirely dormant.
It hasn't. But yeah, you know, some stuff happened like it
wasn't really some weird ownership stuff. Who was like from Software owned it right,
Acquire developed those games. I believe Namco put out a game a few
years ago that was supposed to be like a spiritual successor. I think they
had a lot of the people that worked on Tenshu, but yeah, they
had to go under a different name because I remember a TGS twenty ten or
twenty eleven seeing it, and they were making a big deal out of this,
being like this is like the spiritual successor to Tenchu. But I don't
even remember what the hell that was called. Uh yeah, I seem to
remember that someone trying to market a game as the game from the Tenshu people,
and then like kind of way of the Samurai and those games were also
Acquire. I want to say that was kind of what they got into it,
sort of like a weird cult following around those games. Yes, and
I think I feel like I remember Joe Fielder being a big fan of the
samurai, always a huge tens You got too. Yes, Yeah it was
Okay, that's that. That checks out. Yeah, people, Yeah,
Acquired did the Way of the Samurai stuff and that sort of stuff as well,
so they kind of took that detour. And I believe that was where
it was one of those things where it was for a different publisher, so
they'd you know, it was no longer tens You, but it was still
sort of trying to satisfy some of those needs, but they were kind of
making a different thing on top of that. So I want to say that,
like, was it Activision published Tensu. That sounds weird and or at
least in this country, and something weird went down with Tenshu. Yeah,
if I remember right, I think I remember something. I don't remember what
it was, Yeah, but yeah, I think it's one of those things
where the name tens You got held up in some right stuff and that's why
you don't necessarily see a lot of them. But I also feel like that
series kind of ran its course in its time, and you know, yeah,
I think on some level it's probably due for like, yeah, someone
should make a good Ninja stealth game. Yeah, I mean there's been some
good interesting stuff happening in stealth, you know, Like granted, Market Ninja
was a two D game, but I thought that did some really smart stuff.
Uh you know, I mean, I know some of the more kind
of hardcore stealth purists probably feel like that stuff is getting deluded a little bit,
but absolutely, yeah. And I mean, but you know, that's
you could say that about all games, like they're they're trending towards accessibility,
sure to a wider audience. When it comes to your game is being put
out on disc. Yes, it's a smarter way to make money. M
I don't know that putting out games on disc is a smart way to make
period a wider audiences. I forgot to write, or to include rather the
name of the person who sent this email, and looking back on it,
I want to say they did not include a real name anyway, So that's
okay. But they offer a Noby Noby Boy annual updates, right, all
right, Hey, guys, just wanted to give you a check in for
Noby Noby Boy. Last year, Girl and Boy reached the furthest planet from
the Sun, Neptune. However, everyone's favorite non planet, Pluto, is
still the next goal of the Noby Noby boy community. After that, no
one is sure if Alpha Centauri is reachable or if our quest is over,
but we can all dream. For the record, we started this adventure to
the stars two thousand, one hundred and forty four days ago. As of
second January twenty fifteen, took voyager way longer. Yeah, girl is really
booking? Wait, yeah, refresh my memory. Girl is the thing that's
traveling right, Girl travels? And boy? Is what your boy? A
hanger on? You are boy passenger? No, you are just you.
His stretching out contributes two girls length. Yeah. So the more you stretch,
boy, the more girl grows. Boy. I wish I had somebody
had sat me down when I was like thirteen and giving me this talk and
happy pac Man, pac Man, and then watch the match happen. A
lot of things would have made a lot more sense back then. I bought
Noby Noby Boy back then, ever launched it nice? Is it like?
Could you go back to it? Obviously people are still messing Yeah, it's
a weird it's a weird thing. Something that's still going. Yeah, I
pulled some numbers. I ran the numbers. Okay on this all right,
finally some hard facts. I would love for somebody to check my math just
to make sure. And it's very fuzzy. But if it if it took
them this long, or if it took them as long as it did to
get to Neptune, by my calculations, it will take them another forty seven
thousand, seven hundred and seventy seven years to reach Outpha Centauri. Wow,
like actual Earth years. Yes, I'd probably die before that. Probably you
hand down your PSN accounts and yeah, I don't think the key would be
operable for that long. You could buy a backup, I guess, just
buy every PS three left and just keep it going PlayStation now. Uh yeah,
yeah, I I guess. I guess at some point we will hear
about them hitting Pluto and then curious to hear if the anything else after that?
Right? Yeah, fuck, maybe there's some big revelation. Yeah maybe
nobody nobody, Boy was the real cube all along. That's where the extra
mala new comes out. That's where that's where the eternal truth. Here is
the real curiosity. Yep, all right, last email I've got from Isybeth
von Doom and San Diego. Hey, you guys seem to know Stardust.
Next time you meet him, could you ask him if he knows and or
is related to Paul Stanley from Kiss. I have reason to believe he's my
dad. Thanks in advance. I'm pretty sure he is not related to Paul
Stanley from Kiss, despite the fact that they both paint stars on their face.
Okay, do you have any insight into whether either of them is this
person's father? Uh? Start us. Father is a man named Dusty Rhodes
the American Dream. Really yeah, Dusty Rhodes is his daddy Rhodes. He's
just a common man. Oh, I didn't know what his real name was,
but it's Cody Rerynolds. But you know, I mean Virjiel Reynolds.
Okay, all I know is star Dust. All I know is the guy
in the promo unit on the front page. Star Dust and gold Dust are
real life brothers. That is true. He's a cold Dust. He's the
guy who also dresses up in gold paint and has been for over a decade,
almost twenty years now. Yeah, yeah, but I tell you that
the late eighties is the last time I paid attention to wrestling. You have
to believe me, Ye, sons of the American Dream. You know,
I can't tell from the wording in this email whether this person thinks that start
Ust or Paul Stanley is their father. I would guess Paul Stanley probably not
star Dust. Yeah, sweet Sapphire, We all though, that's true.
Yeah, we all have to find our own cosmic key. You know.
Sure it sounds like good advice. Yeah, BombCast a giant bomb dot com.
Send your emails there. Maybe they'll get rid, maybe they'll get blue.
It's pretty happy, Yeah, it's possible. It's pretty happy with quality
of the emails. Yeah, maybe it's because we took a couple of weeks
off and they had time to accrue. Yeah. I feel like I feel
like some better ones came in. I think we were in a little bit
of an email right there, for a little bit, kicking the new year
off right at dumb stuff? All right, Well, how are we gonna
move forward in this glorious new future? What do we do? I'm gonna
stop pulling my fingers so much. What do we do? From here.
How's that working out? It's not working out? Really, we managed to
stop you gonna need some left for Yeah, have you managed to dislocate the
joint yet? No? Close? Like I got it to crack a couple
of times, but like it doesn't seem to budge. Really, I don't.
I don't think. I don't think any any rips in the skin,
No, nothing, nothing doing over there? Pretty good so far? All
right, Well, put it to ourselves. By the end of twenty fifteen,
pull somebody's finger off. Someone in this rooms listened a finger any as
Mike Tyson. Oh man, I'm gonna hold you to that. Not happen.
It happened, Dan Record, I'll bet anyone of you undreds, Okay,
you win, tell you guys, and he'll do it. Tell you
what burrito I don't know, burrito na, NA, five hundred dollars goes.
I mean, I think, I think a wager with you is just
way more extra motivation to get it done. Yeah, it's gonna happen.
It's gonna be constraints and rules. That's like, that's otherwise Dan's gonna be
sitting at home every fuck right, He's just gonna beat him. That's the
whole thing, is I beat him within the calendar year. He's just gonna
think he's gonna he's gonna little Mac training montage, his weight of victory.
That's been my entire life up at this point. It's a little Mack training
montage. I'm gonna pay off this here. All right, Well, you
go hit the gym, the rest of us go do something less active,
except maybe Drew. And we'll be back with more Ji bomb Cast next week.
Thanks for listening. M
