00:00:17 Speaker 1: Do you guys remember the summer between season three and season four, like the summer of nineteen ninety six, remember what you did? 00:00:24 Speaker 2: Absolutely it was. It was a fantastic summer. Yeah. It was one of the most memorable summers of my life. It was wow, just incredible. Yeah. I So when we finished our show, and I still was in school because we usually finished like in March, right right February, March somewhere around there, And so I ended up going to I was dating Rachel and she was doing a movie in Rome and her studio teacher was Wesley who we had on our show. Yeah, so I went to Rome. I ended up there for like six weeks with two different trips. I went there for like three weeks, and she had like she it was making this movie that it did come out, but it didn't. It wasn't a hit at all. It was called Eighteenth Angel and it was like a like a horror thriller religious thing set in Italy. Yeah, and so she was there for a whole this whole chunk of time. But they put her up, her and her mom and Wesley in this giant villa. So I got to hang out of this villa in Rome, and I spent like six weeks in Rome like just doing chemistry with Wesley, like I still had to do homework and stuff chemist school, but it was so oh my god, it was so much fun. Like I discovered, you know, like espresso, and I just I just fell in love with Italy and it was incredible. And then I also one of those trips, I flew back from Italy and it was traveling by myself too at sixteen, like I just loved it was like my you know, I'm I'm an adult now, which is crazy to think about. But I also flew to Scotland and met up with my dad and my grandfather who my grandfather must have been close to eighty at that point, and the three of us hiked all over Scotland. We drove around and we went to different day hikes, and our our main thing was like we would go to uh waterfalls, we'd find waterfalls and we do these day hikes and it was amazing, Like I look think back on it now, my my grandfather had never been to Scotland. We have, you know, we're our families from Scotland way back, and so like my grandfather always just one of the dippest toes in lock Loman. So we have like a photograph of us like taking our shoes off and dipping our toes in Loch Loman. And I love Scotland. And the best part is I took my dad and my grand my grandfather to see I had heard about this movie train Spot. It was only released in Scotland at that time, geez, so. 00:02:37 Speaker 3: I took the family movie. 00:02:39 Speaker 2: Oh my god. They could not have been more horrified, Like I think my dad was kind of like, you know, for my dad it was like the drug use. For my grandfather it was what are they saying? Because it couldn't understand a single word. And then also there was like literal uh smeared all over one of the characters in the you know, I mean, it's like one of the most in your face aggressive films. So we walked out of that theater and it was like the generational divide because for me, that movie changed my life. Like I was like, I don't I don't really love it now, but at the time, I was like, this is the greatest film ever made. This is the greatest film director ever. I will follow Ewin McGregor anywhere. I was just like I was changed forever from that I. 00:03:19 Speaker 1: Saw Trainspotting in the theater with you one of those times. 00:03:22 Speaker 2: Yeah, sure, yeah, because I was like I was a proselytizer for transport, like yeah, it was the ultimate nineties, like like oh, it was just perfect. And so it was so funny to like, you know, be in Scotland and be like, I've heard about it. And the reason I had heard about it is because I they had done a you know, obviously there was the book, but they had done a play of Trainspotting too, And David Combs had told me about it when we were in England whatever a year or two before this, and he was he we had tried to get tickets and couldn't and he had told me, he was like, this is this is a really important cultural thing, this this train Spotting, and he already knew like he was, so he had his finger on the pulse. And so that when I was in Scotland with my I was like, Trainspotting, I've heard about this, Let's go this movie. Oh biggest, Yeah. 00:04:02 Speaker 1: That's a that's a that's a rough one. Will What about you? What was the summer like for you? 00:04:06 Speaker 3: You know, I knew you were going to ask this question, and the years get a little muddled and jumbled, but I'm pretty sure this is the year that I filmed did a film called Trojan War with with Love Hewett before we were dating, and I'm pretty And it was like forty five straight nights of shooting because of the. 00:04:26 Speaker 2: Whole nights and so you had to wear the same wardrobe wardrobe and. 00:04:31 Speaker 3: Like in on the second day, you know, I my character is supposed to get soaking wet, like hit with with with a hose, a fire hose, and then have flower dumped on them. So they had to recreate that every night for you know, two weeks, where I'd have to get doused with water and then they'd put the flower back on me. This was just constant. So it was a rough shoot, but I had a ton a ton of fun. It was my first big, like you know, Warner Brothers movie. It was yeah, it was so it was a lot of fun just getting to experience that kind of level of being in a film. 00:05:03 Speaker 2: That was a big movie. 00:05:04 Speaker 3: Man. 00:05:04 Speaker 2: I remembered, like I wanted that part so bad. We all auditioned for it, remember, remember, and then we all met at that one party. It was. It was just the three of us, and we're like, one of us is going to get this movie, and you guys both ended. 00:05:16 Speaker 3: Up in it, right, Yeah, And then Jess and I were both in it. That was directed by George Wong, who did Swimming with Sharks with Frank Whalley, which is a brilliant film. And George is still a good friend of mine, talk to him all the time. So yeah, we have so many horrible Trojan War you know. They Warner Brothers finally decided to release it. They released it in like one theater for one weekend in Boulder, Colorado. George and I flew there to go see it. We're the only people in the theater for the first screening of it ever that the marquee was misspelled it says Trojan Wars. And then the second screening was that night at seven o'clock, three girls who were probably in their late teens early twenties walked in and sat down and we were like, oh, okay, perfect example to see if this is if anyone's gonna like this movie or not. So we went and sat right behind them in this empty theater. I think there was one couple that was way too old to be there. That obviously walked into the wrong theater. These three girls and then George and I behind them, they are silent the entire film. It ends nothing, and the one girl turns to her friends and says, I'm so sorry, I owe you five dollars. Oh, and that George and I we had the rest. We were supposed to say that the rest of the weekend and go to the rest of the screenings again by ourselves. We just found the closest bar and then flew home the next day. Yeah, So that that was my experience between. 00:06:34 Speaker 2: The glamorous Life of Holly. 00:06:37 Speaker 3: It was, but I really met Love. She and I had met before that, but we really got to spend a lot of time when we were doing the movie, and we fell for each other and we started dating shortly after that. So between my dating Love, who was like my first love of my life when I was seventeen eight whatever it was nineteen years old. Yeah, and meeting George, who was still a very good friend of mine, it was. It was a wonderful experience all the way around. 00:06:55 Speaker 2: Wow, that's incredible, Danielle. 00:06:56 Speaker 3: What'd you do? 00:06:57 Speaker 1: We went to Hawaii? Yeah, the you know, little Hawaiian family. We went to our Hawaii family drink and yeah, I got I got ten. I probably drank a lot of coffee beans. I went to the mall, the Topanga Mall a lot with my friends and yeah. 00:07:18 Speaker 3: Wait, you were going to the Tapanga mall even back in the day. Yeah, I guess that's right. That was your mall. 00:07:25 Speaker 1: That was my Mompanga mall. Is that the Tanga mall every weekend? Your mall still my mall. It's my mall. It's my mall. I own it and I love it. I've been going to the Topanga Mall for thirty thirty two years. 00:07:39 Speaker 2: That's amazing that you should be the. 00:07:41 Speaker 1: Like spokesperson face yeah how my face. 00:07:45 Speaker 2: Your face on a billboard and be like come on down. 00:07:47 Speaker 1: You know, listen Westfield, if you're listening, there's the mall, the Topanga Mall. I should be the pa. It's I go there all the time. Guys. We have a whole we have a whole new intro told intro let's but let's talk about it. Is when people think of the Boy Meets World intro, is this the one they think of? 00:08:06 Speaker 2: Oh God, I hope not. I hope not to No, no, because I think what happened when the aired on Disney Channel. They put they just put the final the final opening credits before every episode. 00:08:19 Speaker 3: Really like season one, it's it's the Dustle. 00:08:22 Speaker 2: They're pretty sure that they settled on what they perceived as the best. Maybe I'm wrong. I don't know. For some reason, I thought that this got edited out. No Jensen saying they use this one. 00:08:33 Speaker 1: Yeah, I think this is That's what I'm saying. I think this is the one most people think of when they think of Boy Meets World and they imagine the open, this is the one they think of. 00:08:43 Speaker 3: Do you remember this shoot, Danielle? Oh? Yeah, me too? 00:08:46 Speaker 2: Why did you have Danielle not me? 00:08:48 Speaker 3: Because A you left for part of it, which is why you're not in one of the scenes. 00:08:53 Speaker 2: But I remember it. 00:08:54 Speaker 3: And B because this is the first opening title sequence where Danielle is clearly now part of the shop. 00:09:00 Speaker 1: Of the show. Yeah. I remember this. Yeah, I remember this shoot. I remember Rider being miserable, miserable. 00:09:08 Speaker 3: I was miserable, yes, And you were miser and curious Ye? Why you were? 00:09:15 Speaker 2: It was a weekend, No, you know, I had something going on, and and and we they said I had to stay for it, and we like negotiated, Like I remember it was like, okay, I must have had something going on. I don't remember what it was like, either it was another job or something was happening that they were like, you have to be here for these hours off Saturday, and I was like, no, I have this other thing to do. What was it that's so interesting? 00:09:39 Speaker 3: Did McCracken shoot this? It was McCracken, wasn't It was McCracken, but it was. 00:09:43 Speaker 2: It was a nightmare. I remember it not being fun, but it was maybe just my attitude. 00:09:47 Speaker 3: I was gonna say it probably a lot more fun. If one of us wasn't miserable all day long, it probably would have been better shooting. 00:09:52 Speaker 1: I do remember it being an uncomfortable day and like everyone you know, in one of those days we've talked about it before, where these things that you think would be really fun, like we get to do this extra thing like do a Happy Holidays promo or shoot the new opening intros, and it sounds like great, this this where a well oiled machine of a cast. We've got established directors, we all like each other. It would be fun, but it's not for some reason, it feels very high pressure and the stakes feel very high, and everyone is stressed, and yet all you're really doing is sitting on a car and a green screen. 00:10:28 Speaker 3: We also knew it was lame, lame, we knew. 00:10:33 Speaker 2: I remember thinking like this, it doesn't make sense, and like no kracking bless him, trying to get us energetic and happy about doing what we thought was really stupid. Like, yeah, they should have asked us, like what would make cool opening credits or whatever. I bet you we would have pitched some things that would have been simpler, easier. It's also, you know, the transition from multi camera to single camera, like you're doing some camera shoots on these days, which we didn't realize like that takes more works. And so I think we felt put out because we're not doing what we normally do, which is shut up and we do a play and it's easy. They have to like do multiple passes from different angles, and I think we had a jib this day. That's how we get the car to make it look like it's moving, because they just brought the car to the stage, parked in front of a green screen and just move the camera around it. So it was more like a sing like it was just like a photo shoot. 00:11:23 Speaker 3: But they would always and they're always like I remember them being like, all right, now look in the rear view mirrors. Okay, now look look to the side. All right, now you're going to see the parents. 00:11:30 Speaker 1: And I'll do a mini recap of the new open. We see Corey running down the stairs and we've got a new theme song that somewhere it's like somewhere between the Beach Boys, like wipe Out and Fast Elevator music. Yes, it's terrible, So Cory, he's running down the stairs. He opens the door to see Tapega sitting on a convertible being driven by Eric, waving him over. And I think by that point you were gone, right, we had. 00:12:00 Speaker 2: You're not there? 00:12:01 Speaker 1: They Panga and Eric, and then Corey jumps into the car, and then we reveal that Sean is also sitting there, and you are sitting on the passenger door, which is wildly dangerous. 00:12:14 Speaker 2: No, this is safe, and we're moving like we're encouraging kids to This is really take their lives into their own hands. 00:12:21 Speaker 1: The gang then drives through a green screen of what could only be the Field of Dreams, while past scenes from previous episodes of the show appear on the car and in the sky. We see the Corey and Shawn handshake, the old cartoon where the Boy Meets the World, Morgan Matthew's laughing, a weird scene I do not remember at all, where Corey and Topanga and Sean are like in a band together. 00:12:47 Speaker 3: It was weird. 00:12:48 Speaker 1: I don't know. 00:12:49 Speaker 3: Yes, there's a weird shot. 00:12:52 Speaker 1: I'm in the middle, Corey's over here and you're here and it's like you're holding a guitar and we're all like dancing and singing together. That's from a scene that hasn't aired yet. 00:13:00 Speaker 2: I was gonna say, this is just coming up. 00:13:02 Speaker 1: Maybe it's a season four episode and they put it in there. I don't know, but I don't remember it at all. And Eric is driving the car and hardly looking at the road very so there's times. 00:13:12 Speaker 3: I'm not I'm just sitting on the back and it's like, who's steering the damn car? Terrible forget seat belts, at least sit in the car. 00:13:19 Speaker 1: We also see Amy and Allan hugging in the side view mirror, Corey and Sean doing the gasp, and finally, a new logo so that is our new opening. 00:13:31 Speaker 2: And do you guys remember I tweeted about this when it happened at the time. Do you guys remember the Rebecca Black Friday video? 00:13:39 Speaker 1: Of course I do. I remember that very well. 00:13:42 Speaker 4: It was this. 00:13:42 Speaker 2: It was basically looked like this. That's what I remember watching the Rebecca Black video and being like, why does this feel familiar? Oh, because it's the boy meets World opening. It's like that bad green screen. 00:13:52 Speaker 3: It's just like, is Rebecca Black a musician? 00:13:55 Speaker 1: Yes, she's a musician. She's had a resurgence. 00:13:59 Speaker 2: It was actually kind of crueled in retrospect, it was like, yeah, it was like this. It went viral because she had it used to be and there was there were companies that you could pay to have a music video made for you, basically like if you were an aspiring music person, okay, singer, and so her people or family or her I don't know herself had paid for her to be in this video. But they did is they shot like green screen stuff and then inserted a singer into the video and and hers went viral because it was just considered bad because it was so cheap. 00:14:31 Speaker 1: It was a song about Friday and being ready for the weekend. And I will tell you Rebecca Black is the reason Jensen and I are married. 00:14:37 Speaker 2: What huh? 00:14:38 Speaker 1: Yeah, So, Rebecca Black's mother was a vet and she since retired and she lives in Orange County. Rebecca, I think, is from Orange County. Her family is and her mother is the vet who put our dogs down. So she like, when Anna passed away, Rebecca bla Black's mother came to our home and put on a down for me. And it came up one night when she was at our house killing a dog that her daughter was Rebecca Black, and I was like, oh my gosh, yes and no, man, how what has that experience been like for her? So cut to years later, Jensen has Rebecca Black on his podcast to talk about her experience with the Friday Song and I see that, and Jensen and I have been friends since high school, but in and out of each other's life. So I messaged him and said, I know Rebecca's mom and that's how we started talking and dating and now are married. So I can thank Rebecca Black for my children. Anyway, Welcome to pod Meets World. I'm Danielle Fischel. 00:15:48 Speaker 3: I'm rather or strong, and I'm Wilfredell. 00:15:51 Speaker 1: Are you listening to our podcast right now and you live in Dallas or Austin, Texas, then do we have news for you. 00:15:58 Speaker 3: We are bringing pod Meats World Life to you to ring in the new year with many, many layers. 00:16:03 Speaker 2: We'll be at the Majestic Theater in Dallas on January eleventh and then the storied Paramount Theater in Austin on January twelfth, and tickets are still available. 00:16:11 Speaker 1: We'll be telling new stories, interacting with fans. 00:16:13 Speaker 2: Even meeting and greeting some of you, and judging a costume contest where the winner gets a legit nineties Boy meets World shooting script signed by us, So come dressed up. 00:16:23 Speaker 1: We're winding down the tour and we want. 00:16:25 Speaker 3: To see you again January eleventh at the Majestic in Dallas and January twelfth at the Paramount in Austin. Tickets are available now at Podmeets Worldshow dot com. 00:16:45 Speaker 1: So today we are recapping season four, episode one, You Can Go Home Again. It originally aired September twentieth, nineteen ninety six. The synopsis Corey is counting down the days until he gets home from the summer road trip with his brother, but Eric isn't quite as excited to return to Philadelphia. After meeting a girl at a diner, Eric thinks small town living might be more his speed. Directed by Jeff McCracken, It was written by Mark Bluttman and Howard Buskang. Right back for season four? Right were they left off in season three? Did these two ever get to sleep? No, my dear goodness. So guest starring Lindsay Ridgeway as Morgan Matthews. But this will be the last time I mentioned her here because I'm just consider her going to be considering her a part of the main cast from here on out. It also guest stars Dick Van Patten of eight Is Enough Fame. He appears as Amish farmer you may also recognize him from Spaceballs, and then Phil leads as Phil. This is so yes. This is one of three appearances for Phil on Boy Meets World, a very famous character actor best known for Rosemary's Baby, Beach's Ghost, Three's Company, The Larry Sanders Show, and two shows that will help you realize his connection to Boy Meets World, Happy Days and The Monkeys. Yeah So listen to this. Also, Leeds was blacklisted during the McCarthy era after pleading the fifth when examined by the house. 00:18:13 Speaker 3: Wow, I didn't know that. Yeah, I just know. He said the same joke every single time he came to the table read yeah or was that, Oh, you don't remember that. He'd stand up, we'd send and they go and Phil leads and he'd stand up and go, thank you. I just like to say, of all the shows I've been on, this is by far the most recent. And then he'd sit down. He did it every time, and every time. 00:18:35 Speaker 2: He was so funny. 00:18:36 Speaker 1: My gosh. Guest starring Marissa Ryan as Irene, who you might recognize as Elizabeth from the TV show Major Dad, or as Abby in the two thousand and one cult classic comedy Wet Hot American Summer, and then Matt Landers as Graham, another character actor who's run in the eighties includes roles in Diehard, Brewsters, Millions, forty eight Hours, Commando, and Jumping Back. 00:19:00 Speaker 3: I knew I recognize him everything fun. 00:19:02 Speaker 2: Yeah, one of those faces. You look at it, you're like, oh, yeah, that guy. 00:19:05 Speaker 3: Both those guys were in everything. 00:19:07 Speaker 2: Yes. 00:19:07 Speaker 1: He unfortunately passed away in twenty fifteen at the age of sixty two. And then we have Charles Noland as Garrett who has an unforgettable face that you have to remember as Ron Paxton in Wayne's World, but he's also been in many movies and TV shows including Old School, Bubble Boy, Blow, a dozen Er episodes and forty three episodes of The West Wing. And then we have Joe Toppy Tppe as German tourist Number one. Couldn't find any information about him and also worth noting here, no mister Turner in this episode. No the tides they are a changing. 00:19:46 Speaker 2: So yeah, so now they've reduced Tony two a handsol episode reoccurring. 00:19:51 Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess. 00:19:52 Speaker 1: So, so do you guys want to talk about your overall feelings of the episode? 00:19:57 Speaker 2: This was a weird one to see because I had never seen any of the yogurt cup stuff. Like, even though I've never seen any of the other episodes, I had seen rehearsals throughout the ape for everything, so there's like some sort of memory, but this is like there's no visual memory at all of the sad of these yogurt stuff. So that was it was so weird. It just felt weird, like it felt it was jarring. I mean, it's it's a great rusty episode and a great deal episode. I love that entire storyline, and I love the way it comes around. I don't love the a storyline at all, but you know, but. 00:20:30 Speaker 3: I disagree entirely. I loved everything about this episode. I think it's a great way to start season four. It's by far the best performance I've had in the entire run of Boybet's World. I loved this episode all the way. Wow yep wow. I loved everything about it. I love how they're setting up Eric and Alan both going like trying to find themselves. They their they're lost there. I love Corey kind of being the brother trying to get I love being afraid to go home. I loved everything about this episode. I love the guest stars, I love the weirdness. 00:21:02 Speaker 2: But you're saying that this is your your best performance. 00:21:04 Speaker 3: By far, by far, the best performance I've had. 00:21:07 Speaker 2: That's so interesting because to me, it's good, but it's it's less comedic, right, like right, that's what I funny. 00:21:12 Speaker 3: I felt I was more natural in this. I didn't feel like I was pushing anything. I felt like I was actually acting. I loved everything. I felt that I was playing layers like. I loved everything. 00:21:22 Speaker 2: That's so funny, man, because I guarantee you, if you most of your fans or are fans of the show, would would never rank this as what you're talking maybe because because you're so you know, because they come to love you for your comedy. Sure, that's like what you're known for, especially as Eric is like the like the the huge amount of laughs that you can get out of like a scene, like a single scene, like you just cram so many laughs in. And this is not one of those episodes. So I bet you this ranks. I don't think this is like top five for most of your. 00:21:50 Speaker 3: Fans, and I think a lot of that. I think that's why I'm pretty sure I did Trojan War because Trojan War had a lot of dramatic moments in it, and I think I was coming off of that and so it was, yeah, that kind of bled into it. But I loved it myself. I did. I loved shooting it. Ben and I had a ton of fun shooting it. I thought the guest stars were great. Marissa Ryan, she and I got along really really well. I thought she was fantastic. Phil leads again seeing himping Daniel. 00:22:17 Speaker 1: I really I really liked it. I liked a lot about it. I will say I I actually didn't love the way Alan's storyline tied into Eric's storyline, and will and we'll talk about why. Okay, yeah, and I have like and I haven't, and I just I think for me, I think there could have been one tiny, little tweak that would have made me like it a little bit more. But I did overall love the episode, and I liked that again, this was this was very much Eric meets World. We had a full season three where Sean was really the driving force. I'm thrilled that we got an Eric's storyline that's the a storyline. I do agree with writer that I wish when we get these storylines for Eric, I feel like there has to be a better happy medium between him having some more serious stuff and him still being able to use those incredible comedy chops that he had. I feel like they gave the comedy to others about to Ben, which is great too, but you know, he he also still had to play it a little more dramatic because it was more more about note like him being upset and feeling like he had to talk you back into going instead of just being nervous Cory. But overall I loved the episode. I love the guest stars. I think it went really I think the props are the set design like so much of it so fun. 00:23:37 Speaker 2: A lot of money on this episode. I started season four with a bang, or. 00:23:41 Speaker 3: Like, let's go Griffith Park. So that's the park, Griffith Park. 00:23:47 Speaker 2: Even just looking out the window, I knew it was Grindth Park because you guys keep going on the same road that all the time. 00:23:56 Speaker 1: So to jump into our recap, we are in Eric's car, which is filled with junk. Corey is recording a message for Tapanga's. He and Eric are finishing up their summer road trip. Corey states he's making his last entry to the travelog because my road buddy is becoming ornery. Eric swipes the tape recorder out of Corey's hand and says he's happy now because he doesn't have to listen to corey yammer about life on the road anymore. And here's the road now. He throws the tape recorder out the window. Corey pulls out tape recorder seventeen and says, the golden rays of the sunset remind me of the golden highlights in your beautiful hair. Eric yells at Corey, telling him he's insane for comparing everything they've seen to Tapanga. You've tapeged me to death man, which should I thought sounded like a Feenie line they would. Corey is sad to see this trip end, but Eric says it's far from ending, even though they are only three hours from home. They're entering Pottstown, home of the world's largest yogurt cup. And that is one of my favorite like props I've ever seen. I love it. I love the logo killer billboard. Eric screeches and whips right into town and we see maybe boy meets world's first ever action movie sequence, that little stunt. 00:25:10 Speaker 2: Driving yet but then it cuts back into the car and you're on the exact same stretch of road you were, totally car like, no one's moved in the car, like it hasn't been a shock to skid out like that. 00:25:21 Speaker 3: Something also obviously happened with my sound, because from this point on, I'm dubbed Ben wasn't but I'm dumb. Yes, yes, dubbed Danielle, but uh yeah, so Ben's Ben's audio is fine, but mine is completely yep. 00:25:39 Speaker 1: I didn't notice it either. I also didn't notice the being on the same stretch of road, so I was the perfect audience for this. So Corey tells Eric they have to go home because he's run out of clean underwear. Eric admits he's also ran out of clean underwear about a week ago, and Corey points out that he's also run out of pants. Corey els I want to go home, and Eric looks down at Corey's bear legs and screams, I want you in pants and pants. I feel like this was kind of an adult, an adult opening for season four. If there's still on. 00:26:10 Speaker 3: The on the road of adult about what. 00:26:14 Speaker 1: He's pantsless and Eric's looking down at his sprots. 00:26:18 Speaker 2: That's that's that's like a It felt very Looney tunesy gaggy like. It felt like childish gag like under pants. You know, it's like he's wearing underpants. 00:26:28 Speaker 3: But he's not. Apparently he's not. 00:26:31 Speaker 1: He's naked. It's what he said, that's my point. He ran out of underwear, and he said. You may have also read. 00:26:38 Speaker 2: Underwear and Will says, I'm wearing dirty underwear and it's I'm sitting pretty or no. I guess the idea is that Will's going commando. 00:26:45 Speaker 1: Will's going commando, I don't think Ben. Ben then says, I've also you may have also noticed I've run out of pants, so. 00:26:53 Speaker 3: He's he's got the junk out. That's what I think it is. 00:26:56 Speaker 2: I was like, oh, that's okay, fine, I don't want to think about that in your head now, my friend. 00:27:01 Speaker 1: I was like, this is an interesting open for seasons. 00:27:04 Speaker 2: I totally just sue. I just was imagining like polka dot underpants, you know, like really cartoony. I think, yeah, so, and then you're right, that is kind of weird. 00:27:14 Speaker 1: We're in Potstown. Eric and Corey arrive at the world's largest yogurt cup. I mean, this large yogurt cup is now my new favorite prop. It just they keep popping themselves. 00:27:24 Speaker 2: So how did they do this? Like they do build I mean that spoon alone is like. 00:27:29 Speaker 3: The giant pink spoon. 00:27:30 Speaker 2: It's so much work. Yeah, I mean, and you know that this like Michael and Bloodman and buskeg just being like, well, what do the giant yogurt cup? It's like the most boy meets World like joke, and then like, well we have to build it. Oh my god, so great. 00:27:47 Speaker 1: I mean, what a step up from the shady melon, you know. 00:27:50 Speaker 3: Yeah, really, now we've got the giant thing. Yeah, yeah, awesome. 00:27:56 Speaker 2: But this is a classic situation where the A storyline is you know, pushing the limits of the sitcom form, like in terms of the the props and the sets and the we're gonna leave that, and then the B storyline is such a straight play, like it's literally like Alan and Amy sitting on couches, sitting on the outside. It's like very much like no bells and whistles, no frills, it's just like straight up play theatrical sitcoms form. And it's you know, it's usually you have to balance those things because you put so much production energy and time into doing all the single camera work and night shoot. We have an exterior night shoot, might Yeah. 00:28:35 Speaker 1: So Corey has bought some new pants with yogurt logos on them, and he says, let me tell you, one size does not fit all, but they actually look like pretty. 00:28:45 Speaker 3: Well perfectly perfectly. 00:28:47 Speaker 1: Also, I did the research. Potstown is a real city, it's a real place, but they are not the home of the world's largest yogurt cup. Unfortunately. 00:28:56 Speaker 2: No, that's the world's largest yogurt cut because. 00:28:58 Speaker 3: No, I'm kidding. Punk Satani is the the groundhog. 00:29:00 Speaker 2: Yes, maybe we should make the world's largest yogurt cup. 00:29:03 Speaker 1: Well, I do think we should make the world's largest yogurt cup. 00:29:08 Speaker 2: I mean like by building this, did we actually make the world's largest actually make the world? Like why didn't we call the Guinness Book a world rid its? 00:29:17 Speaker 3: Like my question would be what would what would make it a yogurt cup which you actually have to Yeah, I think you have to fill. 00:29:24 Speaker 2: It to do like a giant foil opening and. 00:29:28 Speaker 3: Then when what do you really sat peel giant and it just says to the bottom, sorry, this cup is not a winner. Like wait a minute, we were doing a contest too. 00:29:36 Speaker 2: What the helicopter to like hook into this foil and. 00:29:42 Speaker 1: Then a thousand people have to lick the foil? 00:29:44 Speaker 3: List Yes, can you imagine the fruit at the bottom trying to turn that from the bottom of the butt? Hold on? 00:29:48 Speaker 2: But then there's sprinkles, So is it like frozen sprinkles? Maybe they don't put sprinkles on regular yogurt, so maybe it wouldn't have can would just be. 00:29:58 Speaker 1: Like fun fact I put sprinkles on my my kids yogurt every single morning. Well on outhers. Keaton doesn't like sprinkles. 00:30:05 Speaker 3: But sprinkles, multi colored sprinkles. 00:30:07 Speaker 1: Well, right now we have Christmas sprinkles. 00:30:10 Speaker 3: Okay, did you grow up calling them sprinkles by the way, yes, of course, because that's a regional thing. Well, growing up in back East are called Jimmy's or shots. 00:30:18 Speaker 1: Oh right, Well to Pega calls hers jimmy's. 00:30:20 Speaker 3: See there you go. 00:30:22 Speaker 2: That's okay, Wow, Connecticut, what did they call them? 00:30:26 Speaker 3: You have to like there are shots or Jimmy's exactly. It's like what you call a sandwich? 00:30:30 Speaker 2: Did you grow wasn't just thrown onto your what was it? 00:30:33 Speaker 3: Big? What did you call sandwiches where you were growing up? Big long sandwiches? Here we're called what oes just sandwich? 00:30:44 Speaker 2: That's it? 00:30:45 Speaker 3: You call them? No hogies. Is in the middle of the country, we call them grinders. 00:30:49 Speaker 1: Oh we call or subs a sub sandwich. 00:30:51 Speaker 3: It's a sub here, yes, I think, yeah, they're grinders. 00:30:54 Speaker 1: Back subway or gotcha dan? 00:30:57 Speaker 2: That makes no sense to me. 00:30:59 Speaker 1: Grinders in line making. 00:31:00 Speaker 3: It still can't. 00:31:02 Speaker 4: Stop olviuson grinders, polcus grinders, Navy. 00:31:16 Speaker 1: Corey wants to go home, but Eric points out that there's a whole schedule of events. Corey pleads with Eric that he doesn't want to be there after dark. Eric takes out his camera and makes Corey pose say big pink spoon, and then we start a bunch of very quick scenes, So many very quick scenes in this episode. 00:31:34 Speaker 2: There were a lot of very weird transitions. 00:31:36 Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, the transitions weren't great. 00:31:38 Speaker 2: That's that's true, And like, I also just don't Yeah, we'll get to like some of the word. But but the next scene is Matthews or Matthews right, Yes, did you guys notice the music? No, Like, oh, I think it's our I think that. I don't know. The music seemed really intense to me, and I'm not sure if it was just loud or different, like they've taken basically the the theme music for the new season, but it was like some rock and guitar like very well. I was like, Jesuz, calm down. 00:32:05 Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think it's a I think it's a riff on the theme. I think they're playing with the US there. So then we're in the Matthew's house. Alan and Amy are dressed up for Alan to receive the Grocery Store Manager of the Year award. Amy is proud of him, and Alan is underplaying the achievement to Panga, my hair is so long and the wrong. The Great Bang grow out is almost complete. You can tell they're off to the side. They're pushed out of the way. 00:32:31 Speaker 3: You always say this about or you have said this about us, and it doesn't sound creepy, So hopefully it doesn't sound creepy when I say it back. But smoke showed to Panga. 00:32:39 Speaker 1: Right, I know, very good. We're entering the season of Danielle is peaked. 00:32:49 Speaker 3: Okay, Season four is. 00:32:51 Speaker 1: The just it doesn't get any better than this. Sixteen year old Danielle fifteen fifteen, sixteen year old Danielle is just peaked here. It's all after this. So and Sean, who's dressed very swingers. Yeah, he's barging through the front door asking yep, asking if Corey is coming back yet. He is, He's not there yet. So Tpang asks if they can wait, and mister Matthew says, well, they're on their way out. Sean ignores him and says he's going to take a bath. Alan prefers that his friend's son that his son's friends don't bathe in his home while he's not there or ever. Sean asks, still in a bad mood, mister m and Amy asks what he's talking about, mister m what is happening? 00:33:31 Speaker 2: The second that came out of my mouth, I was. 00:33:33 Speaker 3: Like, what, that's not even happy days? That's even more leave it to beaver. 00:33:36 Speaker 5: That's wing on the show yet, So I don't. 00:33:40 Speaker 2: It just felt weird like hearing it, it was. 00:33:42 Speaker 3: Like, what, No, you also have your your high earring earring thing a cartilage pierce yep, which which I had never noticed before. 00:33:54 Speaker 2: It's like I got a car, I was got an apartment, and I got an ear pier sing here yeah, big season, I'm a full on grass. You're looking at grown up rider. 00:34:07 Speaker 1: This is. 00:34:09 Speaker 2: The most mature I've ever been. 00:34:10 Speaker 1: Did you not have to ask permission? 00:34:12 Speaker 4: Like? 00:34:12 Speaker 1: Were you just did you just get a piercing and no one mentioned it to you? 00:34:16 Speaker 2: Or yeah, yeah I did it multiple times because it filled in, like I had to take it out for something for a job, I guess, and then it filled in, So I definitely had it pierced like two or three times? Is it I tak it the first time, I just did it the mall with a well, I'm I think I don't know if I could still get something through it. The last time I did it was for a movie I did in two thousand and like four or five. I put something through and it's still I still had a hold. 00:34:40 Speaker 1: I'll bring an airing for you to put through. 00:34:42 Speaker 2: We're going to try that. 00:34:43 Speaker 1: Yeah, to try that right at a live show or something. 00:34:47 Speaker 3: So Amy scream it closed, it closed, Danie'll be like that. We'll get it through. 00:34:56 Speaker 2: Don't worry, but pierce me on stage. We'll just get I'll do it, bars, I'll. 00:35:02 Speaker 3: Get one done. There you go. 00:35:03 Speaker 1: So Sean begins to tell the story of when he and his father were getting their samples at the grocery store and Alan cuts them off sticking toothpicks and our sausages does not make them free samples. That Sean is offended and says, we'll just take our business elsewhere. So funny, you're great, And that is weird a little bit, but yeah, yeah, it's cute. 00:35:24 Speaker 2: I want I'm wearing in the next scene, I know. 00:35:27 Speaker 6: Yeah. 00:35:28 Speaker 1: So then we're in the gift store for the world's largest yogurt cup, Corey is trying on a huge red hat with yogurt cups around the brim, and wow, the prop department was. 00:35:36 Speaker 3: Busy this week, a budget already this season. 00:35:40 Speaker 1: I mean, some really good work. 00:35:41 Speaker 2: The whole glasses that Ben's wearing, like, we are so many prop guys, so many. 00:35:47 Speaker 1: And the whole gift shop is filled with stuff so like they filled it with something. 00:35:51 Speaker 3: So. 00:35:52 Speaker 1: Eric is flirting with the young female cashier, and she asks why a young man who's crossed state lines would be keen to chat up a small town girl like her. Eric says his experience on the road doesn't make him any better than her. His friends would say he's simple. Corey nearby jumps in like string. The clerk says she collects. 00:36:09 Speaker 3: Strings, He collects string. 00:36:10 Speaker 1: So funny, and Corey says, well, then you guys are perfect for each other. She says, if he doesn't have to take hitchhiker boy home, which I thought was a funny little thing to call him, But also I guess we missed the whole back story of him telling. 00:36:23 Speaker 3: Her so he was a hitchhiker something. Yeah, I thought the same thing. 00:36:26 Speaker 1: They must have cut some scene so if she doesn't have to take hitch if he doesn't have to take Hitchhiker boy home, they should drive five minutes up to Berlick, Pennsylvania. When Eric asks to hear more about this new town, Corey and her jack's let me guess it's home of the and he's expecting to hear about this this town's dumb claim to fame, but she finishes his sentence with world's largest yogurt cup. Cory says, wait a second. Realizing this is a con Eric turns around, leave my girlfriend alone. Corey announces he's going to the Parade of Sprinkles while Eric and the clerk set their date for eight pm. These are all very fast scenes, Yeah they are. 00:37:03 Speaker 2: Would you guys notice the like southern accent that she's doing. Yeah, it doesn't make sense like her and the guys do slip into it too, And I'm like, are we still Pennsylvania? This doesn't this doesn't seem right. 00:37:18 Speaker 3: It can sound Brooklyn, Pennsylvania can sound southern. 00:37:21 Speaker 2: But I think that that points to, you know, one of my problems with this episode, which is that that cartoonish, I would say, kind of condescending uh representation of these characters in this town. Like it's really weird, Like it's I under I like the arc, like I like the idea, like oh, Eric wants to avoid going home, and like if I abstract the story, I love it. And but they're like the characterization is like really really superficial and like cranked up, and like I don't know, it would have been better to be more subtle. Like it's like, yeah, it's just just so dismissive of these three characters, you know, her and the two guys. I don't know, I'm s bum me out. I was like, could have been a more clever version of this, Like there's a there's a good version of that story, but like like there're just some hicks out here in the you're so smart Eric, like just stop, Like no. 00:38:13 Speaker 3: I like that. I thought that was the point. Is it's kind of like any town, USA that's been forgotten by everything, and you get that kind of the everything else was so subtle that it is kind of nice to just kind of have the cartooninis. Frankly, I thought that the phil Leads, I mean, it's like one crazy character in a small town. 00:38:31 Speaker 2: Next time you see like phil Leads is funny, Like that's a good bit like he's stuck there because he's like that's and he's he himself is kind of funny and smart and witty, like the other characters are reduced to stereotypes, right. 00:38:45 Speaker 1: I do agree that her when she said, let me introduce you to her friends, I would have loved for her friends to have been just as interesting as she was like that, you know, she could have had kind of normal friends. I do agree that the oh, Eric, you talk so smart, it is like, oh my god, what. 00:39:04 Speaker 2: That would be. 00:39:05 Speaker 1: It's twice. 00:39:06 Speaker 3: It's those two guys at the bar. There's the two guys from groundhog Day. Those are the two guys he gets into the car within groundhog Day. The same two characters, that's all. They're the two guys that are always at the bar, but they can't show that they're at the bar drinking obviously, so they're the two guys that are there at the pie bar. It's exactly the same characters there. 00:39:24 Speaker 2: But the whole point of Groundhog's Day is that he judges those people and then comes around. 00:39:30 Speaker 3: Them over a thousand of course, but that's not what the story is about. The story isn't about learning the value of the town. The story is about wanting to be anywhere but home. So it's not about these characters. But that's the point. Is the superficiality, I think is the point is he doesn't want to get It's not about it's like I'm gonna stay here because these are my people. It's like, well, you don't know these people at all. So it's just about being too scared to go home and be with the people that you're supposed to be with, right, So I don't think they're supposed to remain problem. 00:39:59 Speaker 2: And that's what I'm say is not great. Like again, if you're going to introduce and use stereotypes, I think there's a way to again with them. 00:40:06 Speaker 3: Well and stereotype you're talking about just the dumb hmall. 00:40:09 Speaker 2: Town hicks yea, like the whole like the country bumpkin hick who doesn't understand like that is a stereotype and they lean into. 00:40:16 Speaker 3: I don't think they make them a great way that stupid. I think it's just the idea of it's like we've got to I mean. 00:40:23 Speaker 2: Your voice and it makes me feel smart? 00:40:25 Speaker 3: Well yeah, what does that mean? I gets the best line is she developed like why what? Like she the guess they're very quick guest cast that did three scenes. They're not overly developed characters. It's not and they never will be. They're characters that Eric drives into town meet superficially says, I'm not even going to get to know these people, but if I stay, I'll get to know them because I'm too scared to go home. And it's their funny, random bar characters that you again, it's it's the character that Tapanga met in the pool bar with the big hair, in the fight that that she she had with the girl you were there. You can't get in depth with these characters. They're there for nine lines. 00:41:04 Speaker 1: One of my one of my issues with the episode was just that I actually felt bad when Eric had to leave at the end. There was a part of me that was, like, I like her, she actually really seems connected to him, and he could actually really like like living here, he could he could maybe the maybe and and And that's me feeling bad with them having zero character development and only stereotypes. If they did make it more subtle, I feel like the audience would have been like Alan's in the wrong, you know what I mean. And they didn't want that. They want the audience to feel like, no, Eric, don't stay, go back home, and I, even with very little character development, kind of was like, maybe he should stay. 00:41:51 Speaker 2: So I wonder how we're supposed to laugh at these people like we're not supposed to take them seriously. 00:41:57 Speaker 3: That's the points. 00:41:59 Speaker 2: Were supposed to laugh at them like that is. And that's like, to me a little bit of a bummer, you know. I was also thinking this episode is echoed so much like in three Seasons or whenever, when I go on a road trip, we do almost the exact same thing where you meet, where you meet the band, right, I believe that. I think the whole storyline there is that Corey's trying to get me to leave. It's so funny. I never knew that we had like basically done the same storyline twice. We do this a lot. 00:42:25 Speaker 1: I mean again, I have an episode about a towny. 00:42:29 Speaker 3: We also have an episode about Eric with a little kid before the whole Tommy thing. I mean, there's a whole they you know, there's another little kid, the kid who started liar liar. We did an episode or two with that kid. If Eric's gonna be his older brother, and then they do a whole Tommy thing too, so they started to really repeat storylines quite a bit. 00:42:47 Speaker 2: Yeah, well, yeah, sense I mean I think that there's ways in which Echoeight is really good story you know, foreshadow something and then you develop it later. 00:42:55 Speaker 1: But yeah, So then we're in Pottstown. Corey shuffles through a crowd of spectators, including our stand in, Matt Kirkwood. Did you guys see he was it? Matt? 00:43:05 Speaker 3: I couldn't tell, was it Matt? 00:43:06 Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, they're all wearing goggles. The host announces men and women in multiple different languages, welcome to the internationally renowned Parade of Sprinkles. One man with an accent yells, oh they are beautiful. Looking into the sky, Corey asks why everyone is wearing goggles, and then tons of sprinkles drop from the sky. 00:43:25 Speaker 2: Art department working so hard, so hard to clean this up, Like, how many takes did they do? I want to know. 00:43:30 Speaker 3: It's probably they just dropped it all in the grass, exactly. 00:43:33 Speaker 1: They didn't do anything. 00:43:36 Speaker 2: We can go park. 00:43:40 Speaker 1: Yeah, if there were ever tons of dead birds in Griffith Park, check the Sprinkle episode. 00:43:45 Speaker 3: Of John Sprinkle episode of the Boy Meets World. 00:43:49 Speaker 2: So really, this what you're saying is that they should have been called Jimmy's in this because that's what they called them. Yea in Pennsylvania. 00:43:54 Speaker 3: I don't know what they are in Pennsylvania, but I guess. 00:44:00 Speaker 1: For Jimmy's shots. 00:44:01 Speaker 2: Ye So Jimmy's perod Yeah, it doesn't have the same ring, doesn't. 00:44:04 Speaker 3: It doesn't know the sprinkle dash, spring dust Jimmy doesn't sound as good. 00:44:09 Speaker 1: Parade of Jimmy's. Corey covers his eyes as they fall while screaming my eyes. How so this parade happens once a day? 00:44:17 Speaker 3: Is? 00:44:17 Speaker 2: Why is this fus on people? And what are they looking at? I want to see what is throwing? Areaking it? 00:44:23 Speaker 3: Do they just come from the sky? 00:44:25 Speaker 2: Like what happens? 00:44:26 Speaker 3: So random clouds is over once a day? 00:44:30 Speaker 2: This is one of those things that like if I was directing, I would have a really hard time. 00:44:34 Speaker 1: I don't under none of this mast coming from How can they're above the camera? Who's dropping them? 00:44:39 Speaker 2: These are the conversations I would have on gold Meats World all the time. 00:44:42 Speaker 3: And Michael would be like, would be like it happened, just do it. 00:44:45 Speaker 2: It's funny. 00:44:45 Speaker 1: See what do you see? What's on the baby? 00:44:47 Speaker 3: Right. 00:44:47 Speaker 2: Ma'm not saying he's right, he's wrong, but I couldn't do it. I am not the director who can handle that, Like I have to wrap my Like, what is there a magical sprinkles cloud? Is there some dude with a sack? Like what am I looking at? If I don't see it, I don't like it. I want explanation, I want logic. Oh my god, it. 00:45:03 Speaker 3: Should have been a Dosh sprinkle cannon where it's just fired into the crowd. 00:45:07 Speaker 2: That's funny. 00:45:08 Speaker 1: That's funny and and would work for writers. So then he can figure out the best way to shoot the sprinkles coming out of the cannon. 00:45:15 Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, my god. 00:45:17 Speaker 1: So then we're back in the Matthews home. Alan and Amy walk into their living room with Alan carrying his grocery award, which is a gold shopping cart which. 00:45:25 Speaker 2: Production design is awesome. Somebody had made like they had to build this thing, and I was like, I want that, I want that. 00:45:32 Speaker 1: I want got our department maybe they were all summer, they worked all summer for the most. 00:45:39 Speaker 2: We have to get somebody from our art department on the podcast because it was so good, like, especially now that we've seen this episode, like let's find one of those guys. I mean Mark Papson, but he was props and it was David Glazer, right, was he it was Glazers or did he come? I think he was. I think I think Glazers all set in your Yeah, yeah, but I don't think he was just props. I think he was our wasn't he? I think he was our production? 00:46:07 Speaker 4: Yeah? 00:46:07 Speaker 1: Okay, Well I'll find out. So Amy repeats how proud she is. She walks over to the fireplace and puts the award on the shelf, and she says, kind of whispery, Alan doesn't seem. 00:46:29 Speaker 3: Did you see what they did? What they obviously didn't want to reshoot the family photo, so they just moved the plant in front of Lily. 00:46:37 Speaker 1: Oh, there's a plant. 00:46:39 Speaker 2: You could see the whole. 00:46:40 Speaker 3: Family, and then there's just a plant in front of Lily's face because they obviously didn't want to shoot it. 00:46:45 Speaker 2: Was hystericals like oh man, and yet we made mill cartons it said missing her picture. So the art depardmer took the time to have an ind joke just for us, but not the time to redo the photo shoot. 00:46:56 Speaker 3: Well, they just I've heard her face with a plant and kept the saying talking to me. 00:47:02 Speaker 1: About a photo shoot. They very easily on a tape night, when everyone's already in hair and makeup and you have a green screen just like. 00:47:10 Speaker 3: A family photo. 00:47:11 Speaker 1: Sure I have a new family photo and say they had a new photo shoot done it. It seems pretty funny locked her with a plant anyway. Alan doesn't seem so celebratory. He grabs the little shopping cart and size He's been in the grocery business for twenty years. He's reached the pinnacle of his profession. He walks over to the couch and sits down, and Amy sits next to him and questions why he isn't happy tonight. Alan explains how he got a job in the grocery store to figure out what he really wanted to do in his life, and now, twenty seven years later, he's won the realization that he is Alan Matthews forty two years old, and. 00:47:42 Speaker 3: He is a forty two forty two He's had forty two my age, my age five years younger than me. 00:47:50 Speaker 1: Yep, I've got a four year old and a two year old. And Alan Matthews has Eric, who's graduated from high school and has taken the summer to maybe move to a small town. 00:47:59 Speaker 3: So two that I felt that when he said it, that hurt me. 00:48:04 Speaker 1: Amy asks Alan if he wants to quit his job, and he responds with I just want to take a hot bath, and then Sean struts down the stingers in a robe and says, you don't want to go in there, it's disgusting, and he heads toward the front door. Alan asks if he can at least have his robe back, but Sean says he's naked under there, which is like the third. 00:48:24 Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, naked under the naked underneath the cloath, but it's also you're naked underneath the clothes you're wearing. 00:48:29 Speaker 1: Who isn't Yeah, if that's a joke from remember Ingrid, I when we did the Ingrid, it was like, yeah, I think it's a funny joke. 00:48:40 Speaker 2: It's weird that the audience wants to see an under I don't get I. 00:48:43 Speaker 1: Don't love it. 00:48:44 Speaker 3: Well, it's also fifteen year old girls that I'll want to see you. 00:48:47 Speaker 1: I guess they just I guess they're just reacting with the word sex. That's weird. 00:48:52 Speaker 3: Of course I did not. 00:48:53 Speaker 1: Enjoy it, So Alan tells him he can keep the robe and Sean leaves. Then we're in the in a motel room in the middle of nowhere, corn. 00:49:01 Speaker 2: Everywhere. 00:49:02 Speaker 1: Budget Baby season four. They gave us some funny yeah. Uh so they are still three hours from home so far. The set designers are Season four's MVP. Cory is laying on one of the yellow beds, complaining about the state of this dirty hotel room, wearing pink sunglasses made of yogurt spoons, and he doesn't want to be there. It's gross. Eric presses a button which makes the bed vibrating. Corey says he feels a little better now, Yeah, that's. 00:49:29 Speaker 3: Have you ever Have you guys ever done that? Have you ever been in a motel room with the vibrating bed? And I don't know why I have the same thing of the same thing. I know I've done it, and I don't know why. 00:49:38 Speaker 1: And I don't know why. I feel like maybe we used to do family reunions in San Luis Obispo because I had family in San Francisco and we were in a lot of us were in Orange County, so we used to meet halfway. And I feel like in one of those the hotel rooms, I mean, we passed the Madonna in which is incredible, but uh, we never stayed there. So yeah, I don't know I have but I don't know why. 00:49:58 Speaker 2: I guess I have two. I definitely have a memory of being like, what's the point of this, Like being on a bed vibrating and being like okay, okay, right, okay, but so how do you think our team did it? Did they actually have a vibrating bed or do you think there's like people behind it pushing Corey around on the bed. 00:50:14 Speaker 1: I think they probably hooked it up to something that's making it vibrate, you. 00:50:17 Speaker 2: Think, but when, but that's the sounder. 00:50:22 Speaker 3: So I have a feeling they must sticks under the bed and they're probably doing like yeah, but that you. 00:50:26 Speaker 2: Have to figure that out. Maybe through the wall underneath Ben there's like because you know that. 00:50:30 Speaker 3: I'll bet you what it is. He's backed up against the wall. I bet you there's like a thing of paddle through the back of the wall, and they like yeah, on the back of that, like jumping up and down. I'll bet you're right. 00:50:39 Speaker 1: That's how he also probably learned how to scuba and learned how to talk to the dolphins and really, yeah, I bet they spent I bet they spent some time. 00:50:47 Speaker 3: Really, we're coming back to this, really, I want to tell the real story about why you're in the motel with the shaking bed Danielle. 00:50:54 Speaker 1: Corey explains he's been a good brother on this rip. He doesn't know why Eric is doing this. Eric says he isn't ready for the summer to and I noticed here that Will has his shirt only buttoned the very bottom. 00:51:04 Speaker 3: Just one, just one, I want the big V. 00:51:08 Speaker 1: Cory says he has a girlfriend, his best friend in school, waiting for him back at home, and Eric says, yeah, you do, must be nice. Eric admits he has nothing to go back home to. Then there's a knock at the door and it's Eric's date. Corey asks Eric, so what are you saying, and Eric replies he isn't going home. Eric turns around and leaves the room with Irene. 00:51:26 Speaker 2: And do you guys notice like how awkward it is that she like immediately enters the room she just walks. It was because there's no like it was clearly just an issue, like she would have been too deep in the set. 00:51:38 Speaker 1: It was like there's just walking nothing behind it. No human does that, No there's nothing behind it, so they couldn't shoot out the hallway because there is no hallway there, so they were just there. 00:51:47 Speaker 2: Is I notice in the next scene. No, I noticed in the next scene there is a little bit of depth. I think it's just so awkward. It's only like one foot that if you if she was standing there, it would have been weird. Weird that. Yeah, so they went with the option of just and you know that was like mccrackenba like, just just walk in. Yeah, it feels so awkward. 00:52:04 Speaker 3: One thing I did like about the dynamic that they're doing with Eric and Corey is this easily could have slipped into Corey saying something like you know, I've got a girlfriend to go home, and then Eric being like, yeah, it must be not and them getting into a fight right, like something where it's like a little snippy, But instead he's like, I didn't mean it. He's like, no, I know, you didn't mean it, like it was I know. It wasn't about them fighting at all, which you could easily slip into. And I like that it was like, no, it's not your fault. 00:52:25 Speaker 2: Man. 00:52:25 Speaker 1: It does seem like they did a really nice job of showing that this these two months you guys have spent together have actually made you bloser. 00:52:33 Speaker 3: I like that too. 00:52:35 Speaker 1: There was a there was a real relationship there now where there's apologies exchanged and there are less little jabs and more real dialogue. 00:52:44 Speaker 3: Yes, I liked that a lot. 00:52:45 Speaker 2: Transition between these scenes is one of the weirdest things. 00:52:47 Speaker 1: Okay, you come in with your red shirt and you change your sweater, so what have very real? 00:52:52 Speaker 2: You stayed the night? You stay the night with the scroll. 00:52:55 Speaker 1: I think it's you've been out all night because Ben is brushing his teeth, and. 00:53:00 Speaker 2: So you change and leave again exactly. 00:53:02 Speaker 3: So like I think they're saying in a way, Eric's Eric. 00:53:07 Speaker 2: Eric slept with her at her house? 00:53:08 Speaker 3: Yes, right, I think that's what it's saying, is Eric slept with her, right, Yeah, I think that's I think they did that on purpose to kind of allude to the fact that he spent the night and they were intimate. 00:53:21 Speaker 2: That would be mine, right, because then you're referring to her as your girlfriend. Like the next scene. Yeah, and I remember, but. 00:53:25 Speaker 1: She doesn't change her clothes. I guess because she doesn't. She didn't go back to her house. She just went out with you, well, no, I guess where you spent the night there. Why is she in the same outfit? 00:53:34 Speaker 3: Is it her work outfit or is she in the regular outfit? 00:53:36 Speaker 2: I don't know. 00:53:36 Speaker 1: I'm not sure I should have paid more attention, but I don't know. So Eric arrives, I was. 00:53:42 Speaker 3: I was looking at your shirt, my one button shirt. 00:53:44 Speaker 1: Eric arrives back in his room and Corey is hoping he has come to his senses. Eric says he has, and that this place is great. It's got irene, it's got soup, it's got pie. Why would I ever leave? Corey says this isn't his home. Eric says he's found happiness here, and Corey says, no, you just pulled off the road. Corey reminded his brother that their parents are waiting and they owe it to them for at least one of them to make it back home. Eric tells Corey he can take the bus. Cory says he's taking the car, and he lunges for the keys and he runs out of the motel room. Eric chases after him again. Fast little scene. Then we're into the gift shop, which is also now revealed to be a full diner with seating yeah, Eric is yelling at him, saying he can't drive. Cory says, what's the worst that could happen? I crash into the world's largest slurpy. Irene arrives and is surprised to see Eric is still there. She figured she wasn't going to see him again because he would have found someone more interesting. Eric says he finds her very interesting, and she thinks, m the. 00:54:37 Speaker 3: Night with that, And I think that's you do. I think that's exactly the point. Like I've slept with guys before and they just take off. 00:54:45 Speaker 1: I think that's exactly what they were saying exactly, especially in her So don't keep living with guys. 00:54:49 Speaker 2: I read, gosh, don't do it, don't fall prey to this. 00:54:53 Speaker 3: Trap has a very colorful past. We're not going to get into it. 00:54:57 Speaker 1: But let's say, Irene, I want to go to Pop's town and she's. 00:55:03 Speaker 3: A great actor. 00:55:03 Speaker 1: Yeah, So Eric says he finds her very interesting, and she thanks him and says that makes her happy. She asks Eric if he wants to say hi to her friends, and she says the little hitchhiker boy is more than welcome to join us, while pointing at Corey. But Corey says, this is where the little hitchhiker boy says goodbye, and he says he'll be the one driving through the cornfield. Eric asks to at least check if Corey has the right keys. So Corey holds out the keys to show him and Eric easily grabs them to shove him in his pocket. Eric says, what a moron, with an absolutely incredible read. 00:55:33 Speaker 3: Thank you. I also going back to the motel room scene, did you notice that when I get dressed, for some reason, I put on which I can only describe as a pair of tap shoes really like these black patent leather shiny shoes that it looked like that shoes maybe, but. 00:55:54 Speaker 2: They're all black. I think Sarah putting us in like bollet shoes, something. 00:55:58 Speaker 3: Like hipster, but it did it looked like I was like, well, I'm going out for tap tonight. 00:56:01 Speaker 2: So actually, was Sarah still the Sarah still wardrobe designer? 00:56:06 Speaker 3: I don't think so season four with Yang by this point or did we have a transitional one? 00:56:11 Speaker 4: Oh? 00:56:12 Speaker 3: No, remember we had who was the guy who did? We always talked to him because he was in the rock. He was he was Sean, he was he was he was okay, So did he work with with her? Then he might have been Sarah's assistant, Hans Hans because his lines in the Rock is the guy he steals the this is and he dinks, thanks the scratches and I have your ass. Yeah that was that was Yeah, Yeah, it was Hans. 00:56:47 Speaker 2: And he had just been he had been Shawn who he had been Sean Connery's like costumer. 00:56:51 Speaker 3: Yeah, he was like his and so they put him in the movie. He was He was the one who dressed Jan Connory. Yeah. I can't think his name was Hans, and so. 00:56:59 Speaker 2: His name and he Yeah, I don't know what he was at KTLA, So it might have been this season, but I don't think he was the head of wardrobe and somebody else. There was a woman and him, but I don't remember who it was. I don't Maybe in my mind it's still Sarah, but maybe not. I don't know. We should look at it. 00:57:14 Speaker 3: You're right, yeah, figure out you're right, Yeah, you're right, Like damn, we'll never knows. 00:57:21 Speaker 1: If only there was a database, only there was an internet movie and. 00:57:27 Speaker 2: Ye yeah, yeah, a place. 00:57:30 Speaker 3: It's a good idea to put it, put a mark on that we can. 00:57:32 Speaker 1: Rank and when we invent the time machine starter. 00:57:37 Speaker 2: Great idea. 00:57:38 Speaker 1: So Corey says he can take the keys, but you can't take my freedom, just like Brave Heart. 00:57:43 Speaker 2: Brave Heart was big, big Scotland was big, guys. 00:57:47 Speaker 1: Yeah, ninety six and he runs out the door. 00:57:49 Speaker 2: We quoted Braveheart all all the time time. 00:57:54 Speaker 1: And I never have seen it and was like, oh gosh. Irene tells Eric not to worry. No one in town will pick him up. Eric asks why, and she tells them everyone in town is right here. Irene looks at Eric and leans in to kiss him. He asks what that was for, and she replies that he treats her like no one has before. He looks into her eyes. She tells Eric his voice sounds really smart, which makes her feel special. 00:58:18 Speaker 6: What. I don't know what that is the craziest line I've ever heard. And I can see the like the pretzeling that our writers are trying to eat her like, well, the point she has to like him because he's smart, right right, So we're just gonna say, but he's not actually saying anything smart. So you just sound of your voice makes me feel smart. 00:58:38 Speaker 1: I'm like, what, yeah, No, that's not what She says, your voice sounds smart, and that makes me feel special. 00:58:45 Speaker 2: Gotcha? 00:58:46 Speaker 1: Okay, she says, Okay, that's what she says. Because a smart voice, she is special, right because he likes her, it sounds okay. Here we go. Here were the costume designers. Tom Brown did twenty two episodes from ninety three to ninety four, Sarah Markowitz and Julie Yang. So Julie So that's all. That's that's all that's listed. 00:59:11 Speaker 2: All right, So it must have been either still Sarah. It's probably still Sarah. 00:59:15 Speaker 3: She must think Sarah only did two or three two and three. Yeah, she's what she said, she only did two seasons. 00:59:21 Speaker 1: Yeah, and and she did not come back for the beginning of a season. Yeah. I think we're into Julie. Okay. So, but she kisses him again. They seem happy. I ship them. Eric and Irene belong together. 00:59:35 Speaker 2: I think there's chemistry between these two actors for sure. 00:59:38 Speaker 4: Yeah. 00:59:39 Speaker 2: I do not think that there is any character given to Irene at all. 00:59:43 Speaker 1: Yeah. 00:59:44 Speaker 2: Could have. They could have been smart, and I look up to Eric as smart, like that's the the extent of her character. 00:59:50 Speaker 3: They could have. They could have, but Eric decided to go to Pembroke instead of staying with her. 00:59:55 Speaker 1: So yeah, Sad said, okay, so okay, there are lots of okay, so much information here. Hans George Struhar was the key costumer, it says in only one episode in nineteen ninety six, okay. And then there's Anna or Anna Shaeffer who was a key costumer for it says only one episode in nineteen ninety seven, so that would be around this time. Okay, Yeah, remember Anna or Anna Shaeffer. And then Deborah Curtis a set costumer unknown episodes. Elaine Down I know Elaine Victoria Skinner was a costumer unknown episodes. Ellen Allen a costume manufacturing four person who was in forty forty two episodes nineteen ninety six to nineteen ninety eight. 01:00:46 Speaker 2: She would have been like seamstress, like making exactly justin. 01:00:51 Speaker 1: And then Genie Sturgeon additional costumer and she was in one episode for nineteen ninety six. 01:00:57 Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it could have one episode. They just didn't get credit for a lot. They were probably hired on like a freelance basis. Yeah, because you'd need customers, which are the people like just helping organize where the clothes are and like getting them into the right actors. Dressing rooms are on the set, those quick change rooms. 01:01:13 Speaker 1: And I've definitely noticed that on IMDb, number of episodes is oftentimes wrong. It'll it'll be wrong for the amount of episodes I've directed as well, So I don't think we pay any attention to that. So it could have been Anna or Anna. It could have been Hans, it could have been Deborah Curtis, could have been any of those people. So then we're back at the Matthew's house. Amy and Allan are sitting on the couch outside. So nice to see them somewhere else other than the kitchen yep Alan tells him she is ready to listen whenever he wants to open up, and he abruptly says, I blame you. Amy is surprised what he says. He only kept the job to take her of the care of her and the and the and the She finishes his sentences the kids. Alan says he was just a bag boy who didn't have sense enough to leave, and now that's what he is for the rest of his life. Amy tells him that what he does for a living isn't mostly what he is. Alan asks what he is? Mostly then she says Alan is a person. 01:02:13 Speaker 2: She just take yeah a moment like, first of all, I just love this scene. I love au sceing too, like great actors do a great world placing and Bill coming in, and then the payoff with with Rusty with Will later is just spectacular. The writing is so good and the acting is top notch and pinpoint. I want to pinpoint that line that you just reference where he says what am I? Mostly because Rusty's performance is so layered. He's doing this like, well then what am I? Mostly like asking this rhetorical question with this like exaggerated, exasperated performance, and then you look at his eyes and he looks at her and you can see vulnerability and he actually needs the answer, and it's like, oh God. The layers to like he's trying to be like he doesn't care, and then he just gives this look and you're like, oh god, this is like killing him and he needs her to actually answer. It is good. It's just so such solid, subtle acting, still funny, still like obvious in the way that you know television and comedy needs to be obvious, but then subtle and layered and just real God. 01:03:22 Speaker 1: So good, really really beautiful. I did too, and I could. I saw those tears in his eyes too. 01:03:27 Speaker 3: Feeni being Feenie, but still with adults like he's not he's he's not being. 01:03:33 Speaker 2: When we get to Bill, I can. 01:03:36 Speaker 3: Get it. 01:03:37 Speaker 1: Alan asks what he is Mostly then she says Alan is the person she loves a whole lot, and she wants him to be happy. She rests her head on his shoulder as Alan says he is not happy for settling for what he is. And then Feenie walks outside from his house and admires the same sky they're looking at. He opens the gate, walks through their yard and sits on the couch right next to them. 01:03:57 Speaker 2: Gets like three laughs with no line. Yep, this is Bill's. This is probably Bill's greatest like theater moment on Boyman's World so far Ya, he just gets to own the stage, play the physical, and he plays it real. He makes it real. You're like, you believe every one of these beats, but it's it's hysterical. And then he's great so himself. 01:04:19 Speaker 1: To the sea so it's down, and then says, what the hell are we looking at? 01:04:23 Speaker 3: Oh? 01:04:24 Speaker 1: Look, I thought very edgy use of the word hell on boy. 01:04:27 Speaker 2: So we've have two naked jokes, two pantless kids jokes. 01:04:30 Speaker 3: Yeah, hell hell are we looking at Yeah? 01:04:33 Speaker 1: And then Alan asks George, do you hate your job or what? George says no, The only job he ever hated was that horrible job he had being a bad boy at the supermarket, and thank god he got out of that. Amy figures out that Phoenie has been listening to their conversation. Phoene says voices Carrie. Alan asks him more seriously if he enjoys getting up every morning as a teacher. Phoene says that it would be easy to say that over the last thirty eight years he's loved molding thousands of young minds. The truth is he teaches because he likes it and it's fun for him. Alan wants to know what he would do if it stopped being fun, and Poenie says he would look to his family and friends for support to find something new. 01:05:11 Speaker 2: So before right before this, Bill gets up and walks around. Yeah, and this is one of those moments that I watched, and that is that is to me classic sitcom and or theater blocking, which is an insanely unnatural move for a human to make, Like nobody in the right mind would get up, walk around where two other people are sitting, come stand next to them and face outward. And Bill makes it effortless, and people don't understand, Like when you talk about like technical acting, like physical blocking, the ability to do a move, it's like dancing. It's like, this is a very unusual inhuman way to move that Bill does this, He transitions all that, and yet you believe it. There's no doubt in your mind that it feels natural. He owns it. And it's like, oh, I just watched that move and I was like, how is he pulling this off? This is because otherwise the three of them were just sitting on the chair, it wouldn't have a dynamic. It would just the whole energy of the scene would sit. But instead, you know, and that's one of those things like when you're directing actors, you'd be like, we got to break this up, We got to, you know, create a new beat here do some actors will often not be able to do what Bill does because but he just does it, and you know, he just naturally did it. Nobody even had to direct him, I'm sure, but like, it's that kind of acting beat that Bill Daniel's just had his. 01:06:30 Speaker 3: But it's also getting Feenie up. It was once again two children sitting up in depth. 01:06:37 Speaker 2: In the sense of authority. I mean, he was the teacher. 01:06:40 Speaker 3: It was just so good. 01:06:42 Speaker 2: And he's still able to face the camera right because because of course the natural thing to do would be to stand up and turn it five people, but then his back would be the camera. So there's a lot of artificiality to what he has to do in that beat, and Bill just nails. Yeah. 01:06:56 Speaker 1: So Alan thanks him and tells Foenie that he taught him something tonight. George excitedly replies, and it was fun for me. Alan and Amy snuggle on the couch and it's so nice again to see them out of the kitchen doing exactly what we love to see them do, which is just have real conversation about their nights. 01:07:12 Speaker 2: And I'm glad that I feel like they probably the writers realized like they hadn't serviced Alan and Amy for most of season three, so this is nice to return to season four with, like, let's give them their own storyline and their own beats. 01:07:24 Speaker 5: I love it. 01:07:25 Speaker 1: Yeah, very cool. 01:07:26 Speaker 3: Back to parents being parents, I'm sorry, and the vulnerability of adults, and it was all just so good. I love that. 01:07:34 Speaker 1: And then we're on the side of the road. Corey is frustrated and walking alongside the side of the road, questioning who would possibly pick him up in rural Pennsylvania, And just then a horse carriage pulls up and an Amish man asks where he is going. It is so so strange, Corey. 01:07:51 Speaker 3: The how much part makes sense because of rural Pennsylvania. 01:07:54 Speaker 1: Yeah, but why do you need it? 01:07:57 Speaker 3: It's like, just just thought it was fun in there. It was so random. 01:08:01 Speaker 2: I wonder if there was some connection to him that they wanted to get him on our show, or they just were like or if they wrote the scene just a meeting comic relief. I don't know. 01:08:11 Speaker 4: Was hard like that. 01:08:12 Speaker 2: It doesn't play, It doesn't carry through in any way. I'm not for sure Corey was going to get on the thing or And then there's a scene was his Decision. 01:08:20 Speaker 3: Season seven where Jack and Eric are Amish and dressed like people, and the thing so again, another one that they repeat again. 01:08:27 Speaker 1: So Corey says he's going to Philadelphia. The man on the horse played by famous person Dick van Patten says he is going to that farmhouse there, and he points down the road. Corey again says he is going to Philadelphia. The man responds again saying he is going to that farmhouse there. This exchange happens maybe three more times. I have decided to condense it because I do not want to bore you. In the end, Corey says he would rather wait for someone else, someone with a mode of transportation that has combustion. The Amish farmer explains that his intent was just and his heart was pure, and as he leaves, Cory says, that also does. 01:09:02 Speaker 2: Be no good. It's a good line. 01:09:04 Speaker 1: I mean, it's funny, very funny, weird, and I actually think they the runner of that farmhouse there. It's funny. I just don't know. I don't It's very random. 01:09:17 Speaker 2: Yep, it's yeah, it's I I wonder if there was a draft of the script where this affected Corey or Eric in some way, where there was a decision made. But as it is, like, this is the thing you cut, Like when you're writing a script, if it doesn't propel the story for it, if it doesn't change any of the characters, you cut it. Even if it has some funny bits. 01:09:37 Speaker 1: But they kept it in so when Corey does come back, he very Eric very easily could have been like, what are you doing back here? And Corey could have said the only person who tried you know, a horror an almish man on it. 01:09:47 Speaker 3: Yeah, that's it, that's it, you explained, or just a line. 01:09:50 Speaker 2: Like like you know what if the guy had said, like, you know you you walk that way and then you always end up back where you start, some sort of like line that isn't wise. But then Corey aches as wisdom and becomes like a fortune cookie, like I am going to go back and get my brother back, you know something, somehow to propel it change. Yes, it's so. And to be fair, like, you know, Woman's World is great specifically because we never have a scene that's just for jokes. We usually we always propel our story. Our writers are so good at knowing that you always have a scene propeller story forward. So this is like kind of the only time I've seen like just for jokes, no plot change, no character change, and it's you know, that's fine. I guess there must have. 01:10:33 Speaker 1: I bet I would be shocked if there's not some Dick Van Patten connection and some of the there was a different version of this script where these people came in more and and it tied in somehow I don't know, but we're back at the diners slash wait. 01:10:48 Speaker 3: I have a I have a quick question. Do you think other than Florida, where it was obviously travel, do you think this is to date the most expensive episode of Boy Meets World that we'd ever done. We've got whole new sets, Dick van Patten shooting outside the giant yogurt cup. 01:11:05 Speaker 2: The only other one would be the Thrilla and Philip just because of the sheer number of guest stars, right, you writ everybody there, But even this one has a whole bunch of guests like has Yes, this one has like eight guest stars speaking roles, and then three new sets exteriors. 01:11:21 Speaker 3: You're right, Sprinkles falling car. 01:11:24 Speaker 2: The priciest episode. This is the most. 01:11:27 Speaker 3: Expensive episode we've done so far. I have to imagine except for everyone. 01:11:31 Speaker 1: To Florida, everyone except you save network by not flying you. 01:11:36 Speaker 2: True, but the network was basically like your numbers have earned like a splashy episode. 01:11:42 Speaker 3: Right, so this has to be the best. So I was thinking the whole time, I was like, this has got to be the most expensive episode we've done. 01:11:48 Speaker 1: So Eric is sitting at a table with Irene and her old slightly red neck friends while eating a bowl of soup. He looks up and says, that is the best piece soup he has ever had. Irene reaches behind the counter and pulls out a slice of She says, the soup draws you in, but the pie is what keeps you here forever. And just then we reveal a very old man. Phil leads. He says, it's true, I was only three hours from home. Very funny joke. I laughed very hard and loud when that joke came out. When it was like Eric sitting next to this guy and they were in the exact same situation. Here's Phil and here's Eric. You could see his future yep, just he. 01:12:27 Speaker 2: Know, he's just he's just such such a old guy. Looks like it's just like that, you know. The joke is that there is an old man here. Yeah, he has been here since he was IC's age. It's so it's just a visual joke and he doesn't have to Oh, I love it. 01:12:44 Speaker 1: It's so good. 01:12:45 Speaker 2: He's great and then him and Ben later at the giant Pie. 01:12:48 Speaker 1: Oh, the giant pie don't even get started. So funny. So Eric takes a bite and he's blown away. It's delicious. What kind is this? A friend of Irene responds with pie. Says, with pie like this, people must be lining up. Another friend reveals that actually they might have to close up. Eric is shocked, and he asks Irene if this is true. Irene says, ever since they built, ever since they built the new highway, people just pass by town. Eric tells her they wouldn't if they knew about their pie and soup. He comes up with a plan to get people to come in by putting up signs on the highway advertising their pie, updating drivers every mile on how close they are, hundred miles away, ninety eight miles away, et cetera. A friend is confused, it's pie because you're talking about Chili. Irene loves the idea. Irene's friend stands up and tells Eric that even though a smart man like himself probably feels more at home in the big city, a guy like you would do pretty well in a town like ours. And this is where especially the double top, the double time of being like, hey, you're a smart guy. To me, the whole thing, that part does feel like we don't have many smart people here. Yeah, whereas like you got it, they it could have because it is true that Eric could be a great marketing guy. So it could have been that. It's like, wow, you know what, we've never thought about that. We've only relied on our small town keeping us afloat. But if we could draw people in, that would help. You know, Eric, you could open a marketing firm here instead of it being like you know. 01:14:14 Speaker 2: Or you could be our guy. You could be our pitch guy exactly. Could totally fits Eric. Yeah, her personality is so engaging, it's exciting to be around. 01:14:21 Speaker 3: Yeah. Whatever, Here's the thing I didn't get that that made me think about it was for a small town, the giant yogurt cup, there was like thirty people outside of the yogurt cut there. There's a lot of people there. 01:14:33 Speaker 2: I mean, sprinkle parades every day. 01:14:35 Speaker 3: The sprinkle parades every day, you've got the you know, it's the Obviously the diner wasn't packed, but for a small town, that sprinkle parade, right there was pretty good revenue. Right, Bringing the Germans in, bringing money exactly. 01:14:48 Speaker 1: So Eric responds by saying maybe he will stay for a while, And just as he figures this out, Corey walks into the diner behind him, Ory calls Eric over in questions if he could really be happy here. Eric says he already is. People here make him feel really important. Back home, he's just a loser who didn't get into college, and here, he whispers, he could be king. 01:15:08 Speaker 2: Be king of that line, I love, and I love. What I liked about that is that there's an awareness of like Eric, there's the only line that does it where Eric is maybe kind of manipulated in this situation. Yeah, I think that's a more clever way to go, where Eric's like, Okay, okay, I'm going to like insert myself into a position where I have authority or knowledge that you know. 01:15:29 Speaker 4: Uh, but. 01:15:32 Speaker 2: Does it make sense that Ben would be Prince No? No, of course no, I thought. I thought, of course, not Duke of Sprinkles would have been better. Yeah, or like, but Prince. I immediately was like, but you're not his, You're not his son. 01:15:47 Speaker 3: I know the lineage is off. 01:15:52 Speaker 1: Monarchy works, Although hold on a second. If let's say, with uh, Prince William and harre right, if he would be a brother, still would be a prince, right, So is he still a prince? 01:16:04 Speaker 3: He's no, he's duke. He's Duke of York, isn't he? 01:16:07 Speaker 2: I think? 01:16:08 Speaker 3: The Duke of the King, and then that he has a son, he becomes the Duke of Wales and the next son becomes the Duke of York. 01:16:15 Speaker 1: Duke would have been I literally. 01:16:16 Speaker 3: Just watched King's speech last night and I think that's what they were was. 01:16:19 Speaker 2: But so the idea is that like you and Corey would have both been princes, that he would have been named king and he would still be. 01:16:26 Speaker 1: Still currently a prince because his brother isn't currently king. 01:16:31 Speaker 3: Or we're just thinking too much. 01:16:33 Speaker 2: The second joke, okay, the second Eric does become king. 01:16:38 Speaker 1: Right, then Corey, he would no longer be prince, right, He'd be. 01:16:41 Speaker 2: D Duke of Sles, which is funny. 01:16:44 Speaker 3: Yeah, if not funnier. Dukea Sprinkles. 01:16:48 Speaker 1: Sounds everyone knows it. Cory says he will tell Mom and Dad about Eric and knows they will be so proud. Cory says, he is the Prince of sprinkle Land, but we now know would be funnier if he was actually the duke, and he picks up the payphone to dial home while Eric announces soup and pie for everyone on him the new guy. And then we're still in the diner and Potstown. Corey is seated at the counter trying the pie. He's got a giant napkin in his shirt. He's also impressed. This is good pie. Phil leads. The old man next to him says, I was three hours from home. 01:17:19 Speaker 2: Now. 01:17:19 Speaker 1: We have seen this before on Boy Meets World. If a joke works once and it's funny, just the same joke. 01:17:26 Speaker 3: In that farmhouse over there, see. 01:17:30 Speaker 1: If you can kill it, So this time I think it's still funny. Alan shows up to the diner and Corey says, don't eat the pie. You will never leave. Alan asks where Eric is, and Corey points in the direction of his Royal Highness he's holding court over there. Alan walks up to Eric seated at a table with Irene and her friends. They're still eating pie at this diner. Again. How many pies? How many pieces of pie? Is okay in one day? Because is this Thanksgiving? 01:17:57 Speaker 2: I usually, sir Yogurt. 01:18:01 Speaker 3: This is a yogurt town. 01:18:02 Speaker 2: This is you are just like this is the town. 01:18:06 Speaker 1: Is this for sprinkles? Is it for yogurt? Is it for pie? Or soup? 01:18:10 Speaker 3: Soup? 01:18:11 Speaker 1: Is what are you known for? 01:18:13 Speaker 3: That's your problem is you're not known for one thing. Oh, oh my god, this is this is a yogurt town. 01:18:23 Speaker 2: This is the episode. I'll never forget Michael coming up to me one time telling me a joke. It's just like, did you hear about the the old man who went to Vegas Like no, like I prostitute came up to him and said, Hey, do you want some super sex? And he said soup. That's a Michael Jacob's joke. 01:18:44 Speaker 1: Michael Jacobs jokes, Wow, I don't think that joke does him any justice. So Eric is surprised to love love soup. Who So Eric is surprised to see his dad and he introduces him to his new friends and Irene. Alan is disappointed in what's going on here. Eric says he was gonna call him in the morning to inform them of his plans. Alan tells Eric he will be getting in his car and following him home. Eric says he would rather stay. Alan says they should probably talk in private, so they move to a booth three feet away directly behind them, and notice what Phoene said earlier in this episode, voices Carrie, m m, but the camera pans to Corey and the old man sharing a huge hie. Corey, in between bites, asks if a guy like him could have a lot of opportunity in this town, and the man thinks about it and says, wow, I could use a nurse. 01:19:48 Speaker 3: Oh, Phil, I love it. 01:19:50 Speaker 1: I love it. You want me to tell my phil Leads joke, I mean, not my phill Leads joke, my phill lead story. 01:19:55 Speaker 3: What's your phill lead story? 01:19:56 Speaker 2: You have another one. 01:19:57 Speaker 1: It's the only one. It's not from this episode. It's from another episode that Phil does. I think this Joe episode. He didn't say it to me. He said it's to Ben, but he said it right in front of me. Oh that's a way in a way that like I just heard it. But he's standing there next to Ben and he's looking at me, and he goes, wah, look at her. I'd like to gnash on her broccoli, just the most disgusting. Like I was maybe sixteen, maybe seventeen, and Jeff, he's a hundred and like. 01:20:41 Speaker 3: Ill, I'm sorry, instantly goes to in his head. What's your broccoli? That's what. I don't know where it is. I don't know where we're going with this. 01:20:53 Speaker 1: I don't know, but it's like, it's so gross. The broccoli is such a gross analogy for whatever he's thinking of. 01:21:02 Speaker 2: This goes so well with the old man's super sex joke. 01:21:04 Speaker 1: I mean, we had to keep it together. It's all there. 01:21:09 Speaker 3: Exactly did you, Danielle? I was just watching your face. Did you throw up in your mouth a little bit? 01:21:13 Speaker 1: I did? 01:21:15 Speaker 2: I mean you weren't proud. You were like, oh, now I know you wants to. 01:21:22 Speaker 3: It's a notch. 01:21:26 Speaker 1: So yeah. Back at the booth, Alan and Eric, Alan asks Eric to tell him what this is really about. Eric thinks he won't understand, but Alan says try him. Eric sees no point in going back home. He's been going to school his whole life, and yet he didn't get into college. Everything he has done up until now has been a waste, and it's too late to change who he is. And this is actually something Alan understands very well. It's very easy to find someplace that's comfortable and just stay there. Eric says he could settle into a place like this, and Alan interrupts to say, that's all he will be doing, just settling. He'll spend years trying to convince him self he loves it, and eventually he'll realize all he did was settle, and you will not like yourself. Eric says, I don't like myself now, Dad, Alan says he can come home to the support of his family and friends and they will help him find what he really wants. 01:22:14 Speaker 2: Eric. This the transmission from Foene to to Eric. 01:22:19 Speaker 3: Love it. 01:22:19 Speaker 2: I love that the audience is in on it in a way that like now that Alan's the authority. He obviously wasn't the authority, you know, ten minutes ago. And I just love that that we have an insight into that and so we get to sort of feel like we're I don't it's so it's so such good writing. This scene just makes me so happy. 01:22:38 Speaker 3: Also, the perfect just it so shows and lays out one generation teaching the next generation teaching the next generation. 01:22:46 Speaker 2: Yeah, it's so good. 01:22:48 Speaker 3: Great, Oh, I love it. 01:22:49 Speaker 2: Love it everything about the scene except the fact that the female character gets absolutely nothing right. 01:22:54 Speaker 4: She got. 01:22:58 Speaker 2: For Eric. Eric's change just that's that's her job. I got it. 01:23:03 Speaker 3: She got a wave. 01:23:05 Speaker 1: Eric admits he's afraid to go home, and Alan says, you never have to be afraid to go home. Eric asks how he's so sure, and Corey walks up to say because he's dad. Alan takes a moment and says, yeah, that's mostly what I am and I and I cried, I did I cried. Alan says, let's go. Cory and Eric make their way to the door, but before he walks out, Eric looks over his shoulder to see his pie making love. 01:23:29 Speaker 2: And fight for him, marine, fight for him to stay. 01:23:33 Speaker 1: She's legend in her own time. She knows this. She knows this, This has happened to her before she meets these smart driving through Pottstown guys. She waves, he waves, and she knows that yet another man has left her to die on the side of the road with Phil Leeds, who was begging for a nurse. Eric smiles back and maybe he tells her, Oh. 01:24:01 Speaker 2: The Ballad of Irene, what's happening? 01:24:04 Speaker 1: Let's I love the scene, and I love the beat with Eric, and I love Alan, and I love the transference of Feenie knowledge. But also there is truth to the fact that Eric doesn't have a whole lot to go back to and when he was there, no one was doing anything to help guide him or support him in any way. There As a matter of fact, when he fell into something he loved, like the Internship, his dad also had a huge thing to say about that. And there is also sometimes a negative like parents stopping you from making the same mistake I made for myself. That becomes me like a parent living vicariously through their kid. And maybe this wouldn't have been such a horrible thing for Eric, So I was left with a little bit of sadness. 01:25:01 Speaker 3: Like. 01:25:03 Speaker 1: I don't know, I both want. I both loved the way it worked out and also was a little sad for what could have been had Eric trusted his instinct a little more. 01:25:13 Speaker 3: Looking back, I would love, as much as I would love loved to Panga to go to Yale instead of being with Corey. I would also love Eric not getting into college and doing something else with his life to show that you don't need to go to a four year school totally to have a decent life like you could have. You could have easily made him something a plumber and electrician, whatever you wanted to where he was thriving. 01:25:38 Speaker 2: I think our show has a college bias. It like our show. I think boy Me's world is very which you know, I think I think maybe America had a college bias and then. 01:25:48 Speaker 3: Totally not just the nineties, it was for years before that that was go. 01:25:53 Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's it's less so now though I think people recognize, yes, but. 01:25:56 Speaker 3: Which is good because it's not necessary. 01:25:58 Speaker 4: But it was. 01:25:59 Speaker 3: I remember that was in my family where I was gonna, you know, I'm like, I'm on the show, I'm doing all this stuff. I'm not going to college, and my mom to this day is st lucky you going back to college. Like, Mom, I'm fifty, I'm good at this point. 01:26:10 Speaker 2: You can get your degree. 01:26:11 Speaker 3: It's a you'll be. 01:26:24 Speaker 1: And we're in the tag in the Matthews living room to Panga, it was very tan from my Hawaiian secation. Yeah, I also love the little like sixties number I've got going on, like the orange dress and the white platform shoes and I don't know, it's such a cool look. 01:26:40 Speaker 2: Yeah, you do look good, but I don't. I wouldn't on your broccoli. 01:26:45 Speaker 1: No one invited you to, No one invited. 01:26:51 Speaker 3: Not. I don't know why this would matter, but broccoli makes me gassy. 01:26:56 Speaker 2: Right, another reason to not. I'm just saying. 01:26:58 Speaker 5: I'm just saying we're gonna becasting will Phil leeds face and poor young Danielle looking around being flaps. 01:27:11 Speaker 1: I want to stund talking about it. 01:27:12 Speaker 3: Forget. 01:27:12 Speaker 1: I told the story to keep that in. 01:27:15 Speaker 2: It's too good. 01:27:16 Speaker 1: I'm gotting it. 01:27:17 Speaker 2: There's no reason to cut it, he said, I don't ever. 01:27:20 Speaker 1: Want to hear it again. He's dead. Maybe it. 01:27:23 Speaker 2: Well he said it. He can should live by his own actions and his own words and die by them too. 01:27:29 Speaker 3: You know what. 01:27:30 Speaker 1: He probably said it because he was like, I'm a hundred what are they gonna do? 01:27:33 Speaker 2: It comes down to I'm gonna talk about this after I'm gone, and I don't. 01:27:35 Speaker 1: Get and I don't give a crap. 01:27:38 Speaker 2: You two earn down to should p l is d t in. 01:27:56 Speaker 3: I think we've gone off the rail now. 01:27:58 Speaker 2: We can't cut it because it's it's too damn funny. It's too damn funny. There's no way you're cutting. 01:28:03 Speaker 1: This, okay. So Topanga and Sean are seen in the kitchen. Morgan walks down the stairs saying she told Corey that Amy made blueberry pancakes. Amy says she didn't make blueberry pancakes, and Morgan says, whatever, he should be happy. We let him live here. It's a funny line. H Morgan looks at Topanga and asks, are you and Corey going to kiss? And Tapega says that's very personal. We shouldn't talk about it. Morgan says, come on, we're girls, which makes Tapanga immediately say right on the lips. Sean says Corey isn't gonna have time for that. He isn't gonna even gonna know that Topanga exists. He's been gone for two months. They have a lot to catch up on his best friends. Corey walks down the stairs, throws his hands up and yells Sean's name. Shawn is thrilled to see his pal and also throws his arms up to embrace, but Corey ducks under him and grabs Tapanga. They immediately start to make out a lot. Corey asks questions to Sean while also kissing Topanga, and Sean answers him. He says he had a great summer, confirming they're still best friends, and Sean says, see, I told you, acting like this was the catching up he said was so important to Corey than Sean yells, hey, I'm talking to you and slaps Topanga on the arm, And that's our episode. 01:29:09 Speaker 2: Good start to season four. I'm sorry, is this the first, like Corey choosing between Sewan and Tapanga moment? We're gonna do a lot of this. 01:29:17 Speaker 1: It becomes a whole show thing. Yeah, this might be the first one. 01:29:21 Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, wow, that's interesting. That's and and he chooses to Panga, which is interesting. I feel like on Girl Meets World, the big joke was that he always chooses Sean, right right, that's fine. 01:29:31 Speaker 1: We'll see so. And you know, we've talked about wanting there to be more of a camaraderie between Shawn and Tapanga. And even though this is about which one of us is more important, us being there together and it feeling like we had had a part of our summer together while waiting for Corey and you hitting me on the arm playfully made me feel a little like the way the montage did about Corey and Tapanga. It was almost like a little mini montage for Topanga and Sean were I was like, they are friends. They they have some sort of of base friendship, which which I enjoyed. 01:30:05 Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think they had to because you are now a regular and you're gonna be every episode. So I think they're starting the season strong by being like, this is a this is our our trio, this is our team group. 01:30:15 Speaker 1: You know, yeah exactly. So thank you all for joining us. Please join us for our next recap, which will be episode season four, episode two, Wait till you Hear it, guys, air Today, Goon Tomorrow. 01:30:29 Speaker 3: Hairpisode Ready to cut you were? 01:30:33 Speaker 1: I was ready to comele that was the summer then that I kept asking and Michael said, let me write an episode about it. So I had to wait my whole summer. Yeah, so there we go. It originally aired September twenty seventh, nineteen ninety six. Uh, thank you all for joining us.
