<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, welcome to Game This Mornings with Me Jeff Greb, <v Speaker 1>your host from giant bomb dot com. Thank you for <v Speaker 1>tuning in. In this episode, we're going to be talking <v Speaker 1>about reviews for a much anticipated RPG reimagination and did <v Speaker 1>Sony just patent its next gin controller. It's gonna be <v Speaker 1>a good one because we have lex Selati on the show. LEXI, <v Speaker 1>how are you doing well? <v Speaker 2>Before we talk about how I'm doing, Let's take a <v Speaker 2>second to celebrate y'all. What a weekend? <v Speaker 3>What thank you? <v Speaker 2>What a level stream? And I had one of those <v Speaker 2>nights where I just wasn't able to sleep. I've been <v Speaker 2>having a lot of like sleeping stuff recently, and I <v Speaker 2>wound up just having that stream open most of the night. <v Speaker 2>And boy, the vibes were really good. And you ate <v Speaker 2>so much money for such a good cause, and Dan <v Speaker 2>looked like a bit of a fool, which was also. <v Speaker 3>Just the joy. Yeah. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, and I have good news for you. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. <v Speaker 2>Then the Perfect Weapon or whatever the name of that <v Speaker 2>game was is ongog. <v Speaker 1>I think I've decided I will find some way to <v Speaker 1>actually play through that game on content. Yeah, yes, I <v Speaker 1>want to see it through. It is way longer than <v Speaker 1>our friend Ben Hansen thought. But that's ain't that the <v Speaker 1>way with Blake Club game. <v Speaker 2>You know that game is good because trying to find <v Speaker 2>any reviews for it is near impossible. Because I was <v Speaker 2>trying to send stuff to Dan over discord that you <v Speaker 2>could like read out to annoy you. And I was <v Speaker 2>trying to find clips of like reviews or stuff from <v Speaker 2>the time, and they were pretty much only in European magazines, <v Speaker 2>so most of them were like French or German. <v Speaker 1>I was like, it is really difficult to play, Like <v Speaker 1>just getting that character to move around is. It's not <v Speaker 1>just frustrating, it is truly infuriating, especially when everyone's watching, <v Speaker 1>like why don't you just go do that? <v Speaker 3>It's at The controls are bad. They change. <v Speaker 1>From tank controls to something else when you're in combat, <v Speaker 1>and it's not like it's locked on and suddenly it's <v Speaker 1>direct controls. <v Speaker 3>It just doesn't make any sense. <v Speaker 1>So I think I need quite a bit more time <v Speaker 1>to actually get used to that whole thing, and really <v Speaker 1>I don't think I'll ever get. <v Speaker 3>Used to it. <v Speaker 1>But yeah, that was the really bad game I played. <v Speaker 1>Ben Hansen selected for selected at it for me to <v Speaker 1>play as the Blake club that we did during the <v Speaker 1>men Max Giant Bomb ice out stream. Oh yeah, we <v Speaker 1>ended up raising a little over two hundred and sixty <v Speaker 1>thousand dollars. That link is still live if anyone missed it. <v Speaker 1>If you want to go back and watch it, and <v Speaker 1>then you want to contribute still, you go to Bitley <v Speaker 1>Slash Ice out Minneapolis Now Minnesota, Minneapolis, you can donate <v Speaker 1>and keep inflating that number. It's all going to an <v Speaker 1>organization called Veep Veap in Minneapolis that is helping to <v Speaker 1>feed people who are afraid to leave their houses, but <v Speaker 1>also providing rent assistance for people that, like are afraid <v Speaker 1>to go to their jobs. So it's going to make <v Speaker 1>a huge difference. We're really proud of it, and we're <v Speaker 1>really proud of the communities coming through. And I got <v Speaker 1>to say, Lexie, I'm I'm of the suspicion that it <v Speaker 1>was the community coming out and the video game industry. <v Speaker 2>I think there's a lot of I saw a lot <v Speaker 2>of people outside of the usual Giant Bomb family resharing <v Speaker 2>those posts. <v Speaker 1>Yes, and yeah, I think there's a lot of will <v Speaker 1>and desire in video games the people who make video <v Speaker 1>games to do more, and they are locked down in <v Speaker 1>a bunch of ways so when they see something like this, <v Speaker 1>they can feel comfortable coming to support through us. And <v Speaker 1>we're just glad we can kind of be a little <v Speaker 1>sign post and point people in the right direction. <v Speaker 3>And get something done there. <v Speaker 1>So just yeah, in love with everyone who who contributed, <v Speaker 1>everyone who watched, everyone who shared. <v Speaker 3>So thank you for saying that. I really appreciate it. <v Speaker 2>I will also say that my rabbit hole of research <v Speaker 2>led me to another PS one game that I sent <v Speaker 2>on to Mike Manari. But I'm going to send on <v Speaker 2>to you too because I I think it might be <v Speaker 2>like kryptonite for a certain Dan leikush So and this <v Speaker 2>game has even less coverage of it online. <v Speaker 3>Okay, all right there. <v Speaker 1>I have been getting a lot of people being like, <v Speaker 1>here's something that will hurt Dan, and I welcome it. <v Speaker 3>Everybody keep sending it my way. <v Speaker 2>I mean, let's be real, he's due, he's do one. <v Speaker 3>Oh yes, exactly, Yeah, yeah, that's what Mike. He said. <v Speaker 1>We should both be punished. It's a two person job <v Speaker 1>picking the game. Oh whatever, I think I can handle it. <v Speaker 1>I've been able to handle it before, so we'll see. <v Speaker 1>All right, we should get on with this show. And <v Speaker 1>explain ourselves. We're giant Bomb, a small team of independent <v Speaker 1>video game dophasis, independent out here on our own. Please, <v Speaker 1>we need your support to continue doing what we're doing. <v Speaker 1>We want to be that signpost of like good in <v Speaker 1>the video game industry and we can only keep being <v Speaker 1>here if you all come through and make sure that <v Speaker 1>we can have a solid foundation in the future. So <v Speaker 1>to do that, giant bomb dot com slash join become <v Speaker 1>a premium member. It goes a every long way toward <v Speaker 1>ensuring that we can keep this whole thing up and <v Speaker 1>going and vibrant and alive. As far as this show goes, <v Speaker 1>most weekdays, I Jeff Grubb, will help piece your gaming <v Speaker 1>life back together. That includes breaking news and maybe even <v Speaker 1>some of our own original reporting. For all these topics, <v Speaker 1>I'll get the input of a bona fide expert who <v Speaker 1>will make me look smart. If you were watching live <v Speaker 1>on twitch, welcome. You can always listen to the show <v Speaker 1>later on podcast feeds by searching for Games Mornings, or <v Speaker 1>find the RSS feed on giant bomb dot com. You <v Speaker 1>can also catch the show later with chapters and timestamps <v Speaker 1>on YouTube. <v Speaker 3>Hello YouTube. All right, we have a lot to. <v Speaker 1>Get into, so let's start the morning mess with dragon <v Speaker 1>Quest seven Reimagined reviews. <v Speaker 3>I believe they started to hit this morning. <v Speaker 1>It has an eighty six out of one hundred on <v Speaker 1>Open Critic. I want to say I didn't write that down, <v Speaker 1>but that's what it was this morning. Pretty sure it <v Speaker 1>is still there. Got a seven out of ten from <v Speaker 1>Ali barter At, who's a contributor at Forbes, who said, overall, <v Speaker 1>dragon Quest seven Reimagined is a stunning rebuild of a <v Speaker 1>classic PlayStation role playing game. The stop start aspect of <v Speaker 1>the short story structure is still there, but definitely improved. However, <v Speaker 1>despite its technical brilliance, it feels a little solace at <v Speaker 1>times and doesn't hit you the way most dragon Quest <v Speaker 1>games do, so I can only really recommend this to <v Speaker 1>diehard fans of the original game, who will no doubt <v Speaker 1>love it. Got a nine out of ten from Nick <v Speaker 1>Buntz at The six Axis, who said Dragon Quests seven <v Speaker 1>Reimagined is a very very impressive remake. Twenty six years <v Speaker 1>after its original release, This modernized edition of the game <v Speaker 1>is everything I want from an RPG, and I can <v Speaker 1>tell and I can imagine it landing very well with <v Speaker 1>people who grew up partying with Kiefer and Marabell. It's <v Speaker 1>held back from a perfect score by only the smallest <v Speaker 1>of gripes around pacing, and then eight out of ten <v Speaker 1>from Robert Ramsey at Push Square. <v Speaker 3>Dragon Quest seven. <v Speaker 1>Reimagined is a very high quality remake and a potent <v Speaker 1>reminder of just how endlessly charming the long standing series <v Speaker 1>can be. Well, the story does still drag. It drag, <v Speaker 1>its feats, its feats its feet at times. Sweeping gameplay <v Speaker 1>improvements and some welcome streamlining make Reimagined a must for <v Speaker 1>anyone with a hankering for old school JRPGs. Yeah, I've <v Speaker 1>talked to a few people have played it. I played <v Speaker 1>a little bit of the final version. I enjoyed it <v Speaker 1>so far. I continue to think it looks really stunning, <v Speaker 1>and I early on was not being put off by <v Speaker 1>the pacing too much, but I could see it like, Okay, <v Speaker 1>I was kind of expecting things to pick up at <v Speaker 1>a certain point, and if it doesn't, then I could <v Speaker 1>see that still being a problem. That was always the <v Speaker 1>original complaint with this, right, right, let's see is that <v Speaker 1>it just really dragged on in its original iteration and <v Speaker 1>even in the previous re release, where they edited it <v Speaker 1>down somewhat. This one did a lot more, and yet <v Speaker 1>that's still kind of fundamental to what this game is. <v Speaker 2>Right, Yeah, I'm playing another game at the moment where <v Speaker 2>the pacing is kind of a divisive topic, and I <v Speaker 2>think that with this game, one of the few negatives <v Speaker 2>I have heard coming out of people is less that <v Speaker 2>like like, oh, they you know, they really slim down <v Speaker 2>the pacing and maybe it lost some of its charm <v Speaker 2>in that regard, Like they seem to have done very <v Speaker 2>well with that. The stuff that I've seen a little <v Speaker 2>bit about is like, hey, maybe these quality of life <v Speaker 2>improvements are sound like standing off edges that gave these <v Speaker 2>games personality to begin with, because I know the two <v Speaker 2>and three and or the three and the one and <v Speaker 2>two remakes both kind of had a lot of quality <v Speaker 2>of life things, but it seems like a lot of <v Speaker 2>those are on by default in this and so yeah, <v Speaker 2>I'm curious to see how people wind up feeling about <v Speaker 2>the difficulty of this game when it comes down to us. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I you know, it's a concept I always go <v Speaker 1>back to and discussing this sort of idea, But like <v Speaker 1>the Pepsi challenge of is this game that like, initially <v Speaker 1>just hits really hard for people, and it's like, oh, <v Speaker 1>this is sweet and easy to go back to and <v Speaker 1>kind of makes things a lot more friendly, and then <v Speaker 1>in the long term it doesn't quite like you don't <v Speaker 1>like it as much because it doesn't have that same <v Speaker 1>character to it. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, I could see that happening here. <v Speaker 1>Although it does sound like you know, in eighty six <v Speaker 1>is hard to get on open critic. People who showed <v Speaker 1>up to review this game certainly knew what they were <v Speaker 1>getting into. I do wonder, hey, can new people come <v Speaker 1>to this, and and the reviewers themselves are saying that <v Speaker 1>they can't really tell this is going to be the <v Speaker 1>Dragon Quest seven that people will be able to go <v Speaker 1>back to and be like, oh no, now I like <v Speaker 1>this game when I never even tried it before. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I'm also you know, I'm curious to see how <v Speaker 2>it does sales wise, just because it is in a <v Speaker 2>lot of ways the like the Dragon Quest one in <v Speaker 2>two and three remakes are still ultimately, you know, very <v Speaker 2>eight bit looking games, whereas this is the first modern <v Speaker 2>looking dragon Quest or turn based wall PG since eleven <v Speaker 2>and eleven kind of wants the big breakout outside of Japan. <v Speaker 2>And I've interviewed a few Dragon Quests people over the <v Speaker 2>last few years and certainly have high hopes for expanding <v Speaker 2>the franchise and continuing to push it outside of Japan. <v Speaker 2>But like it's it's worth noting this is the first <v Speaker 2>time that Dragon Quest seven has like officially released in Europe, <v Speaker 2>which is wild to think about. So all the previous <v Speaker 2>versions never got power releases at the time, So yeah, <v Speaker 2>it's it's definitely a game that's going to be played <v Speaker 2>by people for the first time as well, which is <v Speaker 2>worth bearing in mind. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, you're right that they definitely saw the response through <v Speaker 1>Dragon Quest eleven and that sort of shifted their thinking <v Speaker 1>about what the ceiling globally for this franchise could be. <v Speaker 1>And and you know, I think they have plans to <v Speaker 1>do something like this or the one, two three remakes, <v Speaker 1>remasters whatever in it for all of the games eventually, <v Speaker 1>and it will be like interesting to see how they <v Speaker 1>take this going forward. I bet everything after seven gets <v Speaker 1>something along the lines of these, Although I don't know. <v Speaker 2>What long this game did come out in Europe. It <v Speaker 2>was Dragon Quest two that never came out or dragon <v Speaker 2>that never came out on you up. Sorry, I mixed <v Speaker 2>up who I interviewed. I interviewed like three Dragon Quest <v Speaker 2>people at games Calm last year, and I felt very confusing. <v Speaker 3>Yes, yeah, don't I get that, But yeah, I am. <v Speaker 1>I think that they will continue to figure out this <v Speaker 1>this series in terms of how to make it as <v Speaker 1>widely appealing, and then hopefully the like going forward Dragon <v Speaker 1>Quest twelve, which they which they've talked about saying that <v Speaker 1>that would be the most welcoming or kind of the <v Speaker 1>having the least rough edges of any dragon Quest, and <v Speaker 1>it's like, oh, I wonder what that means. <v Speaker 3>And they kind of even even talked about maybe limiting <v Speaker 3>the turn. <v Speaker 1>Based battle a little bit. So I don't really know <v Speaker 1>what any of that's going to mean. We haven't seen <v Speaker 1>that game in any real way. So I just hope <v Speaker 1>this game, this series can maintain its character while also <v Speaker 1>growing like a resident Evil has which kind of goes <v Speaker 1>back and forth on maintaining its character versus kind of <v Speaker 1>being big and bombastic. <v Speaker 3>But yeah, we'll see, all right. <v Speaker 1>Numerous video game companies share prices dropped following Google's Project <v Speaker 1>Genie AI rollout because investors are just goofballs, goofballs. <v Speaker 3>Dumb, just dead rat dumb. <v Speaker 1>Just dumb as a hat that's been run over on <v Speaker 1>the road that's sitting in a mud puddle. <v Speaker 3>That's what their brains are. Just nothing. This is from <v Speaker 3>Chris Calling at VGC. <v Speaker 1>A number of video game companies have seen their share <v Speaker 1>prices fall in the wake of Google's rollout of Project Genie. <v Speaker 1>The company announced last week that it had started rolling <v Speaker 1>out a prototype version of Project Genie, an AI tool <v Speaker 1>that lets users generate their own playable worlds. According to Google, <v Speaker 1>users can create worlds by either typing imprompts or uploading <v Speaker 1>images they can. They then create their character in a <v Speaker 1>similar way. Users can also define certain other properties, such <v Speaker 1>as how the characters. <v Speaker 3>Move or whether the world is explored in first person <v Speaker 3>or third person. <v Speaker 1>As players explore the world, the tool generates it generates <v Speaker 1>it in real time depending on the actions the players <v Speaker 1>makes and where they move the camera. People did this <v Speaker 1>said what the results weren't very fun? Look whatever? Cool <v Speaker 1>magic trick the idea that investors saw this lexi and <v Speaker 1>then that day Take two, the publisher of Grand Theft <v Speaker 1>Auto six, their stock price dropped ten percent. As if <v Speaker 1>this is a threat to Grand Theft Auto six is <v Speaker 1>a joke. These people don't know they controlled trillions of dollars. <v Speaker 1>They don't know what they're they don't know their ass <v Speaker 1>from a rat hole, what is happening? <v Speaker 2>And so I wound up with like something of a <v Speaker 2>populos skiche where I reposted Shnobi's reporter or like just <v Speaker 2>run down of this, saying like when I explain to <v Speaker 2>people that like investors are really really stupid, this is <v Speaker 2>what I mean. And then I had a load of <v Speaker 2>people in the applies being like, but now it's a <v Speaker 2>great time to buy low, and I had this moment <v Speaker 2>to like, no, you've missed the point here. I don't <v Speaker 2>want to play the game. I'm not here because I'm <v Speaker 2>looking for a good in I'm here to tell you <v Speaker 2>the game fucking sucks. This game like it's like when <v Speaker 2>you're halfway through a Mario party and someone's like anyone <v Speaker 2>could win, Yeah, anyone could win. I don't want to <v Speaker 2>fucking be here. I'm done, Like what are you talking about? <v Speaker 2>This is ah Jesus Christ. This is so frustrating as <v Speaker 2>anyone even if you know the if you know anything <v Speaker 2>about like what AI is capable of, if you even <v Speaker 2>use this Gemini demo, or you looked at someone use it, <v Speaker 2>you could instantly go like, well, we can't sell that <v Speaker 2>because like it's fourteen seconds, it doesn't last long enough <v Speaker 2>to be a viable product. It is, like you said, <v Speaker 2>a magic trick and nothing more. And the idea of <v Speaker 2>people being like, well this is a sign of the times. <v Speaker 2>Everything's gonna be gone for the games industry is like, <v Speaker 2>oh honey. But the thing that really concerns me is <v Speaker 2>that when the market shifts like this by idiots and <v Speaker 2>being idiots with their money, does it is it a <v Speaker 2>self fulfilling prophecy Because we've seen that before. We've seen <v Speaker 2>as one Dan like it would say, people work themselves <v Speaker 2>into a shoesh where they're like, well, if I believe <v Speaker 2>this hard enough, then it has to be what the <v Speaker 2>future is. I hope not AI reminds me a lot <v Speaker 2>of I had a conversation with someone who was a <v Speaker 2>very early developer in the vir space and kind of <v Speaker 2>when it was like before the Oculus Swift came out, <v Speaker 2>when it was still like dev tools were the only <v Speaker 2>versions of your that you would be seeing, and they <v Speaker 2>described me how easy it was to get investor money <v Speaker 2>at the time, which was basically if you booked a <v Speaker 2>meeting with a venture capital guy, and you put them <v Speaker 2>in a room and you said, okay, here's a VI <v Speaker 2>your head set, And the demo was just a your <v Speaker 2>headset where there was a ball in an empty room <v Speaker 2>and you could bounce the ball in view. They would <v Speaker 2>open their check book and give you whatever you wanted <v Speaker 2>because they were just so dumbfounded by the thing in <v Speaker 2>front of them, because on paper they were like, they're <v Speaker 2>investors' imaginations must be fucking magical because they are just like, well, <v Speaker 2>this could be fucking anything. This could be like revolutionary <v Speaker 2>for fucking anything. So yeah, obviously not financial advice, but <v Speaker 2>I guess a bunch of video games soccer is cheaper <v Speaker 2>than it is usually, so you know, maybe bare that <v Speaker 2>in mine at the moment. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, exactly, not investment advice, talk to an expert. But uh, <v Speaker 1>it seems like take twos on discount and if Grand <v Speaker 1>Theft Thought of six comes. <v Speaker 3>Out later this year, I bet that will reverse. But <v Speaker 3>that's just a guess. I don't know. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I was joking with someone and glub you my <v Speaker 2>enjoy this. You know the guy the two guys in <v Speaker 2>the big short who are kind of like the nerdy <v Speaker 2>kids who work with bad Kit Pitt's character. <v Speaker 3>Huh. <v Speaker 2>The thing about The Big Short is that that movie <v Speaker 2>is about how the system is rigged and you can't <v Speaker 2>actually winish and they're a large parts of like, hey, <v Speaker 2>there's only so much they could actually win because they <v Speaker 2>were outsiders and they were basically told like, hey, you're <v Speaker 2>not alout play the game. But the problem is everyone <v Speaker 2>watched The Big Short and they thought that if they <v Speaker 2>set up an e Toro account, they could be the <v Speaker 2>next Michael Bowie. And it's so fucking miserable. I hate <v Speaker 2>it so fucking much. <v Speaker 3>So yeah, yep, that's what that's the that it was. <v Speaker 1>The story that we took away from all this was <v Speaker 1>that a, instead of changing the system, you can just <v Speaker 1>go in there. Maybe maybe you should be winning it <v Speaker 1>instead of the people who always win it. And it's like, oh, <v Speaker 1>that's I don't think that's gonna work out in the end. <v Speaker 1>It might, you might get the game Stop story out <v Speaker 1>of it, and they'll make a movie about that as well. <v Speaker 3>But I tell you what's probably. <v Speaker 1>Gonna happen in the end is things we'll return to the <v Speaker 1>status quo and the people who always win will win <v Speaker 1>in the long run. Yeah, it's like I get the <v Speaker 1>idea of being mesmerized by new technology whatever. Like if <v Speaker 1>you're if you're dumb and you don't understand that you're <v Speaker 1>dumb and you don't understand it to then be like, well, <v Speaker 1>this means that Grand Theft Auto six is screwed. Is <v Speaker 1>just a leap in logic that can only happen if <v Speaker 1>you are like your brain is completely focused on just <v Speaker 1>making sure you take your next breath, like ninety nine <v Speaker 1>percent of your brain powers. <v Speaker 3>Just like, don't forget to breathe. <v Speaker 1>Don't forget to breathe, because like all you have to <v Speaker 1>do is talk to your nephew and be like, hey, <v Speaker 1>what do you how do you feel about Ubisoft games? <v Speaker 1>And it's like, well, I mean they used to be <v Speaker 1>pretty cool, but then they kind of follow a cookie <v Speaker 1>color formula. <v Speaker 3>They all start to feel the same. <v Speaker 1>I know, they go on sale because they're just following <v Speaker 1>that formula, and that formula includes their business model. So <v Speaker 1>I'll just show up a few weeks later, get it <v Speaker 1>for cheap, and then I'm probably not even gonna like <v Speaker 1>it that much, and I'll move on, and then I <v Speaker 1>won't even buy the next game because it's gonna be <v Speaker 1>the same thing again, and we're expecting, like the only <v Speaker 1>thing best case scenario this genie AI does turn into <v Speaker 1>something that can create a full game. The best case <v Speaker 1>scenario is it can make something akin to like a <v Speaker 1>Ubisoft game, and probably the worst version of one of those, <v Speaker 1>because it's just like, build me a side quest, build <v Speaker 1>me this where I do this, and the people look <v Speaker 1>like that, and it's going on like this particularly listed. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's pretty much like it's really good if you <v Speaker 2>wanted to play a version of like Claire Obscure, but <v Speaker 2>all the characters were anime wife who's with big boobs <v Speaker 2>and you didn't have the brain power to like insall <v Speaker 2>some mods. That's about it. <v Speaker 3>It is for real and it's oh man. <v Speaker 1>And like the other side of this is that these <v Speaker 1>video game companies that have been investing in AI also <v Speaker 1>look like dipshits because of this, because look, the second <v Speaker 1>that these investors thought they wouldn't need you anymore, they <v Speaker 1>devalued your devalid your your stock immediately, like they were <v Speaker 1>just like, oh we can we don't need the people <v Speaker 1>who make the game games at all, like and the <v Speaker 1>people that own the games, we don't need them. <v Speaker 3>Anymore because we couldn't. <v Speaker 2>It's not even we don't need the workers, we don't <v Speaker 2>need the publishers. We could do it. We could make <v Speaker 2>a fucking game, mean you, we could just make a game. <v Speaker 1>We could win, We could win, we could be the winners, right, <v Speaker 1>That's what they held themselves. <v Speaker 3>It's like this, like and. <v Speaker 1>If the way that these people were talking about AI, <v Speaker 1>It's like, well, wasn't that, of course the end goal <v Speaker 1>that someone could just say to the machine, make this <v Speaker 1>for me, and they'll and they'll do it. <v Speaker 3>Why do you think we need you? You be soft? <v Speaker 3>Why do you think we need you? Ea? <v Speaker 1>And it's like they don't have an answer to that question. <v Speaker 1>It's just they assume they would be the winners because <v Speaker 1>they always have been. Yeah, maybe it'll work for us. <v Speaker 1>Is a strategy that these companies just keep going back to. <v Speaker 3>And good luck with that. Uh. <v Speaker 1>The company's stock prices are already rebounding today. I think <v Speaker 1>Nintendo is up like five percent and Take two is <v Speaker 1>up at like three percent and growing fast here. <v Speaker 3>So uh yeah, that discount of isn't going to last. <v Speaker 3>All right, let's take a break. <v Speaker 1>When we come back, let's talk about Sony has a <v Speaker 1>new patent for a touch screen controller. We'll talk about <v Speaker 1>that after some messages. If you want to skip out <v Speaker 1>on the ads, we put out ad free versions of <v Speaker 1>the audio and video show. You can get those by <v Speaker 1>going to giant bomb dot com slash join. We will <v Speaker 1>be right back. All right, we are back. It's Game <v Speaker 1>mess Mornings, Lex Luddy, Jeff Grubb, Lexy. Let's get to <v Speaker 1>this next one. Sony has patent and it did. I <v Speaker 1>can never say that word. A touch screen PlayStation controller <v Speaker 1>that lets players choose where to put the buttons. This <v Speaker 1>comes from Chris Scullion at BGC. Sony has obtained a <v Speaker 1>patent for special controller with a touch screen that lets <v Speaker 1>players choose where the buttons should go. The patent was <v Speaker 1>filed back in February twenty twenty three, but was issued <v Speaker 1>last week and it's described as designs and Methods for <v Speaker 1>a game controller. According to the patents description for accompanying images, <v Speaker 1>the controller would have a large touch screen covering most <v Speaker 1>of the top surface where the buttons usually go. The <v Speaker 1>idea is that players would be able to customize where <v Speaker 1>the dpad sticks or action buttons should be positioned on <v Speaker 1>the controller to best suit their personal tastes, accessibility needs, <v Speaker 1>or what best suits each specific game. It appears that <v Speaker 1>players can also choose to resize the buttons, or even <v Speaker 1>remove some buttons altogether for certain games. I don't want <v Speaker 1>to immediately fall into the brunt of a person on <v Speaker 1>podcasts without imagination who can't imagine the use case or <v Speaker 1>something like this, So it's like, Okay, yeah, I could <v Speaker 1>see accessibility. There's probably some potential there. I would imagine <v Speaker 1>in most cases accessibility, probably it's desirable to have tactile buttons, <v Speaker 1>buttons that you can feel out, but maybe that's not <v Speaker 1>every case. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, you know, I could certainly imagine accessibility cases where <v Speaker 2>you don't want someone to have to put a lot <v Speaker 2>of force on physical things. So like that, in that case, <v Speaker 2>I totally see it. In every other case, I'm. <v Speaker 3>Like, I don't know. <v Speaker 2>I think the booming aftermarket for controller grips for phones <v Speaker 2>is a pretty good like signal that people don't love <v Speaker 2>using buttons on that or don't love using you know, <v Speaker 2>buttons that aren't there on their phone. And I was <v Speaker 2>gonna say digital buttons, but that's a different thing. But like, yeah, <v Speaker 2>I could. I think what we're gonna we might see <v Speaker 2>more of is did you see all the stuff around <v Speaker 2>the Retroid Pocket six. <v Speaker 3>I know, I don't know if I saw it specifically <v Speaker 3>what you're talking about. <v Speaker 2>Basically, they released like, hey, this is what the RETROI <v Speaker 2>Pocket six is gonna look like. And people were like <v Speaker 2>really upset because the two sticks were on the bottom <v Speaker 2>like a jewel sense and they were like, we want <v Speaker 2>the stick where the dpad is. And they're also annoyed <v Speaker 2>because they had a bit of a bezel, and that <v Speaker 2>bezel actually made sense because it was where they were <v Speaker 2>going to put the speakers, so the speakers would be <v Speaker 2>in a better spot. But it was a whole thing. <v Speaker 2>But basically they got out there and they were like, okay, <v Speaker 2>well in that case, we'll let you buy one of <v Speaker 2>two models, one that is a Xbox configuration and one <v Speaker 2>that's a PlayStation configuration. I could see within the next <v Speaker 2>couple of years Sony being like, we understand that there <v Speaker 2>are people who do just prefer the Xbox button placement, <v Speaker 2>and we're going to put out a controller that is <v Speaker 2>like flash. I could see that, but I digital like <v Speaker 2>touchscreen buttons. I know the feedback on them is so <v Speaker 2>bad for the majority of players that people just don't <v Speaker 2>like them. I could see it maybe as a replacement <v Speaker 2>for the touchpad on the Jewel Sense itself, but also <v Speaker 2>Sonya probably at a point where they're like, these controllers <v Speaker 2>are fucking expensive as is. We don't want to be <v Speaker 2>pushing like this anymore because people will stop buying them <v Speaker 2>at a certain point, like they are a luxury item. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, and you know, I screens cost how much these days? <v Speaker 3>I don't know. <v Speaker 1>Maybe this wouldn't add too much to the cost or whatever, <v Speaker 1>but maybe it will, I will say, I don't I <v Speaker 1>don't know. This doesn't feel like it makes a lot <v Speaker 1>of sense. If you do want to use a touch <v Speaker 1>screen controller, doesn't everyone already own one and it's a phone. <v Speaker 1>I guess what's the benefit. I guess the benefit is <v Speaker 1>you add some handles to something and make it a <v Speaker 1>dedicated touch screen controller. <v Speaker 3>At that point I have begin. <v Speaker 2>To lose I mean, using a phone as a controller <v Speaker 2>works so well for everybody's one to switch, so I <v Speaker 2>can see why more companies would want. <v Speaker 3>To do it. <v Speaker 1>They want to be like, we're gonna put a patent <v Speaker 1>on this, We own that idea now because everybody's want <v Speaker 1>to switch is the future? Uh Yeah, I am. I'm <v Speaker 1>skeptical we'll ever really see anything with this. This always <v Speaker 1>feels like, oh yeah, it's Sony. They have a massive <v Speaker 1>research and development team. They're always constantly looking at ideas. <v Speaker 1>This is something that they saw through to the end. <v Speaker 1>They spotted the opportunity for some patents and now they're <v Speaker 1>protecting themselves and they don't actually intend to ever turn <v Speaker 1>this into a product like this certainly is not the <v Speaker 1>controller for the PS six, right, that doesn't make any sense. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I will say that having now picked up I <v Speaker 2>picked up a Jewel Sense Edge, the like fancy one <v Speaker 2>and having the four extra buttons, the buttons on the <v Speaker 2>back that you can rebind and the ones on the front, <v Speaker 2>it's going to be hard to go back to controllers <v Speaker 2>that don't have just a couple of extra buttons that <v Speaker 2>you can rebind to off especially in my use case <v Speaker 2>of playing things on PC and having a button that <v Speaker 2>I can just bind to screenshop for the viewing things <v Speaker 2>or guiding things. It makes life so much easier. It's <v Speaker 2>it's real nice. <v Speaker 3>Yep. <v Speaker 1>I've become a big fan of the back paddles on <v Speaker 1>the switch to pro controller. Those are the very well <v Speaker 1>placed the buttons feel good depressed, and they're very very <v Speaker 1>easy to program so well that you know, even I <v Speaker 1>will do it. I don't do it for just about <v Speaker 1>any other controller. About do it for that one because <v Speaker 1>the US makes it so simple. <v Speaker 2>And yeah, when you're playing something on PC, do you <v Speaker 2>use Bluetooth or do you just keep your controller plugged in? <v Speaker 2>Because I just keep mine plugged in. Why because I'm <v Speaker 2>so close to the computer that. <v Speaker 1>Anyway, Yeah, I use wireless, but it's not Bluetooth. <v Speaker 3>It's a two point four giga Hurtz dongle. <v Speaker 1>Okay, yeah, almost always, because it's just you know, Bluetooth <v Speaker 1>is fine if you're close and you don't have a <v Speaker 1>ton of controllers connected, you're not doing audio and all <v Speaker 1>that stuff, you know, But if you sit far away, ever, <v Speaker 1>Bluetooth is always well, it's becoming more un reallyble in <v Speaker 1>my experience, maybe that's my personal case. Maybe other people <v Speaker 1>having better experiences, I don't know. Yeah, probably not the <v Speaker 1>PS six controller. I could see them doing something with this, <v Speaker 1>maybe some sort of hybrid controller that has dedicated buttons <v Speaker 1>or maybe modular buttons, and then the screen around it <v Speaker 1>can have like modifying effects, or there's a big screen <v Speaker 1>in the middle, Like, replace that touch bad with the <v Speaker 1>screen straight up and have that be programmable. <v Speaker 3>You can put buttons on there depending on what you're hitting. <v Speaker 1>Something like that could happen eventually, but I doubt they <v Speaker 1>will have a dedicated touchscreen only controller. All right, let's <v Speaker 1>see here Nintendo's Virtual Boy accessory sells out ahead of <v Speaker 1>twenty twenty six releases. From Brandon Key at Men's Journal. <v Speaker 1>Nintendo is one of the juggernauts of the video game industry. <v Speaker 1>The company this is so ai written, isn't it a <v Speaker 1>company with the company. With the release of Nintendo Switch Too, <v Speaker 1>dominated a lot of sales charts and casual conversations. Blah <v Speaker 1>blah blah. Cording to Nintendo's website, the Virtual Boy for <v Speaker 1>Nintendo Switch and Switch to is currently sold out. Experienced <v Speaker 1>Virtual Boy blah blah blah. They talked about the description here, <v Speaker 1>but yeah, you can't get this thing at the moment. Uh, <v Speaker 1>and so people are taking this to eBay and selling <v Speaker 1>it on there for a big markup. I think they're <v Speaker 1>also doing that with the the cardboard, because the cardboard <v Speaker 1>is also sold out. <v Speaker 3>Uh. <v Speaker 1>That's a weird thing that Nintendo ran out of cardboard <v Speaker 1>LEXI can. <v Speaker 2>You imagine like, don't pay your coy. God bless his soul. <v Speaker 2>Imagine telling him after his biggest failure and like partially <v Speaker 2>why he, you know, stopped doing hardware stuff. Like imagine <v Speaker 2>being like, listen, in year's time, there's gonna be this <v Speaker 2>thing called eBay and people are gonna be fucking losing <v Speaker 2>their minds for your shit on there. Mm hmm replications <v Speaker 2>of your shit. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, He's like from his great joke to you, like <v Speaker 3>what like what is this? Yeah? <v Speaker 1>Yeah, a little bit like this has always been kind <v Speaker 1>of a meme. <v Speaker 3>Now and we are about. <v Speaker 1>To see, like if this thing is really going to <v Speaker 1>pick up any sort of attention from anyone who's not <v Speaker 1>a boomer. <v Speaker 3>When the virtual voice service goes live. <v Speaker 1>I imagine some kids are going to be curious, but not <v Speaker 1>so curious to get that one hundred dollars one. It's <v Speaker 1>odd that Nintendo doesn't have enough cardboard to satisfy the demand. <v Speaker 3>Because it's like just overpaid. Use it all on Labo. <v Speaker 3>They use it all on Labbo, so you know they <v Speaker 3>just ran out. <v Speaker 1>I guess so they like they buy cardboard once every <v Speaker 1>ten years, and that was it. <v Speaker 3>That was the end of their stock. <v Speaker 2>I will say I I was in Japan at the time, <v Speaker 2>and I was like, I should find a real virtual <v Speaker 2>boy instead. <v Speaker 3>When they announced this. <v Speaker 2>I was like, I should go out and find a <v Speaker 2>real fucking virtual boy. <v Speaker 3>Any idea how much they go for in Japan? <v Speaker 2>No idea. Honestly, I didn't even see one. It was <v Speaker 2>one of the few bits of hard Way that I <v Speaker 2>didn't see because we went to a lot of like <v Speaker 2>retro stores while I was there. But this is this <v Speaker 2>is cheaper everywhere else in the world other than the US. <v Speaker 2>In the so the world, it's like seventy EULO on <v Speaker 2>sixty pounds, I want to say, So it is like <v Speaker 2>definitely noticeably cheaper outside of the US. <v Speaker 1>That's right, Yeah, we get this is like one of <v Speaker 1>those things that happened right in the tariff times when <v Speaker 1>Nintendo wasn't exactly sure how much it would cost to <v Speaker 1>bring this to the United States. So yeah, we're paying <v Speaker 1>more on that and the cardboard is sold out. People <v Speaker 1>are asking, do you is this stuff required to play <v Speaker 1>the Virtual Boy stuff? Yes, according to Nintendo, there's probably <v Speaker 1>gonna be some third party thing that makes it possible. <v Speaker 1>People will find out whatever the the near field communication <v Speaker 1>stuff is in there that like tells it like okay, <v Speaker 1>it's okay to play the Virtual Boy games, and people <v Speaker 1>will be able to figure that out. <v Speaker 2>I want to see the fucking Mad Cat's Virtual Boy. <v Speaker 2>That sounds fucking cursed as shit. <v Speaker 1>That's that is actually what makes your brain begin to <v Speaker 1>vibrate with the rhythms of the universe and then explode. <v Speaker 3>It's the Mad Cat's Virtual Boy a third party helmet. <v Speaker 2>You know, you know the movie Scanners. Oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah, <v Speaker 2>that's what happens if you use that. <v Speaker 3>That's what happened to the guy mad catch Virtual Boy helmet. <v Speaker 1>Yeah all right, yeah, February sixteenth. This is all happening, <v Speaker 1>so a couple of weeks, not even uh and if <v Speaker 1>you want to get in on it, and you're gonna <v Speaker 1>have to either build your own or wait, we I think. <v Speaker 3>Thank me, Van and Mike all ordered one so we'll <v Speaker 3>have coverage. <v Speaker 1>It doesn't sound like you at all, I know, right, <v Speaker 1>it was different for us to drop money on piece <v Speaker 1>of plastic from Nintendo. <v Speaker 2>Did you buy the Talking Flower? <v Speaker 3>Not yet? <v Speaker 1>I'm going to though, Yeah, absolutely will yeah, don't worry. <v Speaker 2>And I geting shot almost instantly. I absolutely did, thank you, Yes, <v Speaker 2>of course we did. <v Speaker 3>Uh. <v Speaker 1>Okay, let's see here. Rumor a Metroid movie is in development. <v Speaker 1>This is from Ryan Parento at Game Ranks. Daniel Rickman <v Speaker 1>has reportedly revealed on his latest Patreon post that a <v Speaker 1>Metroid movie is in development. No further details were revealed, <v Speaker 1>but there's already a lot of talk about talk about it. <v Speaker 1>Brie Larson, who voices Roselina in the Super Mario Galaxy movie, <v Speaker 1>once said in an interview that she would love to <v Speaker 1>play met Metroid. Samus Aran. Uh so you can already <v Speaker 1>expect fast a fascinating role. <v Speaker 3>I don't know. <v Speaker 1>They didn't finish their sentence here. People will be trying <v Speaker 1>to guess who's gonna be Samos. <v Speaker 3>Of course. <v Speaker 1>I saw a really great post someone saying it should <v Speaker 1>be Ria Seahorn from Pluribus and from Bob. <v Speaker 2>That would be good. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, I would be a. <v Speaker 1>Better call, Saul. I think she would be fantastic. Oh <v Speaker 1>my god, that would rule. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. How are you feeling about this? <v Speaker 2>I love Brie Larsen. Short Term twelve is one of <v Speaker 2>my favorite movies of all time. I think Bree's fantastic actor. <v Speaker 2>I really like the idea that like John Cena when <v Speaker 2>he was in the desert and bre Larson doing voice recordings, <v Speaker 2>both kept on just trying to find people from Nintendo <v Speaker 2>and be like, hey, can come back Metroid and the <v Speaker 2>Nintendo people are like, who what back on your cube? <v Speaker 3>Yeah? <v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, that's that's funny. I don't I don't see <v Speaker 2>this happening. Maybe at one point, maybe some point last year, <v Speaker 2>this was an ideana drawing board and now it's making <v Speaker 2>its way out there, and I don't. <v Speaker 3>I don't see that happening now. <v Speaker 1>It's definitely less likely, although you know, I wouldn't be <v Speaker 1>surprised if it's like, you know, the tail wagging the <v Speaker 1>dog a little bit where Nintendo's like, no, we think <v Speaker 1>Metroid is one of the franchises, the ip that we <v Speaker 1>own that we want to bring to Hollywood and have <v Speaker 1>a movie made, and therefore we're going to keep making <v Speaker 1>Metroid games. I could see that happening a little bit, <v Speaker 1>just because the way Nintendo's been behaving recently. It's definitely <v Speaker 1>less likely now. And real quick, yeah, okay. <v Speaker 3>It's ray Seahorn, Ray ray Sehorn. Okay, good to know. Also, <v Speaker 3>so it's like the lady in her mid fifties. <v Speaker 1>Yes, that would own she's she's studdying, yeah and like badass. <v Speaker 3>Yes, the lady in her mid fifties Gramus. <v Speaker 2>Grant NP and chat says Joe Latrugio. Please, I'm not <v Speaker 2>too but sure. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. <v Speaker 2>No, maybe Joeltruo could be Silux. <v Speaker 1>Uh no, I want Joe's as Samus. Yes, that's a <v Speaker 1>funny guy. <v Speaker 3>Okay. <v Speaker 1>Anyway, sorry to get to shoo high about Seahorn, but <v Speaker 1>that's what we do around here. <v Speaker 3>Uh yeah, if they look. <v Speaker 1>I think if they took this concept to enough studios, <v Speaker 1>they would find someone in Hollywood that would definitely want <v Speaker 1>to work on this because it's a recognizable sci fi brand. <v Speaker 1>And I think big companies are always looking for something <v Speaker 1>to do with or looking for something like that, because <v Speaker 1>they've mined you know, Aliens to Death and all these <v Speaker 1>other franchises Predator over and over again, and someone's like, <v Speaker 1>can we get a new one of these that has <v Speaker 1>some recognition that would be nice to have? So it <v Speaker 1>will really come down to is Nintendo like curious enough <v Speaker 1>to see this through? And right now does seem like <v Speaker 1>they are looking for the next thing outside of Mario. <v Speaker 3>Maybe Donkey Kong? <v Speaker 1>Really the Mario Universe and then Zelda to turn into <v Speaker 1>a movie to see if that can work. I think <v Speaker 1>Metro would would be a good testing ground to be like, <v Speaker 1>can something beyond Mario and Zelda succeed as a Hollywood <v Speaker 1>movie or maybe maybe the sense up as like a <v Speaker 1>Netflix like eight episode show or something like that. <v Speaker 2>I was gonna say, yeah, I think they might be <v Speaker 2>waiting until they get dailies back on the live action <v Speaker 2>Zelda to see how much this makes sense. But Dan <v Speaker 2>could and shot makes a really good point. They need <v Speaker 2>to capitalize on all the game of the year stuff <v Speaker 2>that Metroid Prime four one, so they might not be waiting. <v Speaker 1>Some were saying a perfect game out there is what <v Speaker 1>some are saying. So that's what five stars means. They <v Speaker 1>were very very serious about that. Okay, let's see here. <v Speaker 1>Next story, Xbox. This new dashboard is going down well <v Speaker 1>and some people want it on console and PC. From <v Speaker 1>Fraser Gilbert at Pure Xbox. Earlier this week, Xbox unveiled <v Speaker 1>a new dashboard for Xbox Cloud gaming on the web, <v Speaker 1>and it quickly attracted a bunch of attention, not only <v Speaker 1>because it includes an achievement redesign, but because some people <v Speaker 1>really like the UI in general. The likes of the <v Speaker 1>Verge and Window Central have been highlighting this dashboard further <v Speaker 1>over the past few days, as you could see in <v Speaker 1>the video above. The comments for that video are full <v Speaker 1>of people suggesting the same design should apply to console, <v Speaker 1>PC or both. Basically, it does look like a sleeker <v Speaker 1>design kind of just puts everything more cleaner up front. <v Speaker 3>It's hard to describe. You kind of have to see <v Speaker 3>it for yourselves. <v Speaker 1>I will say, I think one of the reasons people <v Speaker 1>like it so much Lexi is something that will It <v Speaker 1>doesn't have ads. <v Speaker 3>There are no ads right now. <v Speaker 1>Like there's no like thing where it's like, oh, yeah, <v Speaker 1>here's your games, your own and here's a game you <v Speaker 1>should own. <v Speaker 3>If you were a real gamer, you would buy this. <v Speaker 3>There's none of that so far. <v Speaker 1>So I bet once that shows up, people will go <v Speaker 1>back to feeling pretty similar to how. <v Speaker 3>They felt before. <v Speaker 1>I don't know, they're probably testing this for that next <v Speaker 1>gen Xbox cause it's going to be more of a <v Speaker 1>device that handles PC launchers as well. <v Speaker 2>Right yeah, I will say, like I haven't booted up <v Speaker 2>my last time I booted up my Xbox was to <v Speaker 2>play Lost Artistsey via backwards compatability, and then before that <v Speaker 2>it was to play fifty cent Blood on the Sand <v Speaker 2>and yeah, so you know, I'm not exactly entrenched in <v Speaker 2>the Xbox ecosystem at the moment, but I will say <v Speaker 2>those dashboards always pretty Yeah, I've like, I get that <v Speaker 2>some people were like, oh, this is the series X <v Speaker 2>one is like utilitarian and easy to use. M I <v Speaker 2>found some of the menus kind of like you had <v Speaker 2>to go pretty deep into them to find what you <v Speaker 2>were looking for sometimes, and the pop up quick menu <v Speaker 2>was like not the best. But yeah, like fine, maybe <v Speaker 2>I know they make such a big deal of unifying <v Speaker 2>the experience and then it's different on every single platform still, <v Speaker 2>and I'm like, I don't know, It's it's hard to <v Speaker 2>be enthusiastic about them at the moment for many reasons. <v Speaker 2>Let's say, yep exactly. <v Speaker 1>And you know, there was a time where it's like <v Speaker 1>a big O U exchange would have been a much <v Speaker 1>bigger deal. And there is no confirmation that this is <v Speaker 1>coming to console yet or PC yet. It is just <v Speaker 1>in the cloud version, but it does seem like they're <v Speaker 1>probably testing it there and yeah, they can try to <v Speaker 1>figure that out. I just don't it's hard to have <v Speaker 1>any sort of desire to turn on an Xbox let alone. <v Speaker 1>I gotta imagine show up to purchase an Xbox and <v Speaker 1>a new UX is not going to be the thing there. <v Speaker 2>That's remember when they released the Xbox log ally with <v Speaker 2>two launchers, like two UI launchers, right, they were like, <v Speaker 2>you can use the Asis fucking mouth, you can Armori Krash, <v Speaker 2>or you can use Xbox Thing, which is somehow worse <v Speaker 2>than Amori Krash and something I didn't think was possible. <v Speaker 1>Now you can log into Xbox Cloud Gaming and use <v Speaker 1>a third different launcher. <v Speaker 3>There you go. So they just keep piling them on <v Speaker 3>over there. <v Speaker 1>I will be curious to see how this plays out <v Speaker 1>for whatever device they have coming down the line. But <v Speaker 1>in this time, it's like, okay, yeah, update the UX. <v Speaker 1>I'm not really turning on my consoles at all. I'm <v Speaker 1>on switch to console, I guess, and then PC gaming <v Speaker 1>almost exclusively these days. <v Speaker 3>All right, Xbox, this new dashboard, I just read that one. <v Speaker 1>Sega talks Sonic Racing Crossworld sales, says initial performance it <v Speaker 1>didn't meet expectations. <v Speaker 3>This is from Nintendo Everything. <v Speaker 1>Sega shared a few words about the sales of Sonic <v Speaker 1>Racing Crossworlds. This comes as part of the comp of <v Speaker 1>the company's latest financial results presentation toward the end of <v Speaker 1>last year, but it's making. <v Speaker 3>The rounds just now. <v Speaker 1>It was previously announced that the game had sold over <v Speaker 1>one million copies worldwide. Although that's an important milestone, this <v Speaker 1>isn't enough for Sega. Executive Koichi Fukuzawa said that the <v Speaker 1>initial performance did not meet our expectations. Sega intends to <v Speaker 1>give the title further support, including additional DLC to a <v Speaker 1>whole to sell another million copies within the fiscal year. <v Speaker 3>That's the goal. Anyhow, Yeah, it's the game did alright <v Speaker 3>with critics. He pointed. <v Speaker 1>Points that out actually and says, hey, yeah, we were <v Speaker 1>happy with that, and then this is not meeting sales expectations. <v Speaker 3>What do you think happened here? <v Speaker 1>You think it was too close to Mario Kart if <v Speaker 1>it's still still not capturing the excitement that people had <v Speaker 1>for Sonic All Stars Racing Transform back in the day, <v Speaker 1>like what it went down. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I think some of it is close to Mario Kart, definitely. <v Speaker 2>I also think that some of it is probably that <v Speaker 2>thing like listen not to shit on Sonic Team because <v Speaker 2>That's not something I'd ever do. But I think those <v Speaker 2>Sumo games were just felt better. Like I've played both <v Speaker 2>of them, those Sumo games feel a lot sharper to play. <v Speaker 2>And Ali Miracle is going to be really pissed off <v Speaker 2>with me for saying that, because she's played like three <v Speaker 2>thousand hours of that game. But yeah, I don't know <v Speaker 2>that game pretty good. It's okay, But in a world <v Speaker 2>where there's so many great games to play, pretty good <v Speaker 2>and okay is hard to hang your hat on. I <v Speaker 2>think Sega had a real resurgence over the last like, <v Speaker 2>let's say seven years, and probably a bit more going <v Speaker 2>back to like twenty seventeen. If you think about twenty seventeen, <v Speaker 2>when Yakuza Zero came out, things really swung in a <v Speaker 2>different direction. They struggled on the three sixty, and they <v Speaker 2>were struggling out the blocks on the new consoles, and <v Speaker 2>then Yakuza Zero started to gain momentum, and then Sonic <v Speaker 2>Mania came out and suddenly Sega could do no wrong. <v Speaker 2>And I'm not sure how much longer that's going to last. <v Speaker 2>I think they've been out there saying some real questionable stuff. <v Speaker 2>There was a rumor late last year that they wanted <v Speaker 2>both Persona and Like a Dragon to be a yearly franchise, <v Speaker 2>which is something that as a fan of both those franchises, <v Speaker 2>I would not like them to be yearly franchises because <v Speaker 2>I know people have talked a lot about, you know, <v Speaker 2>the accuses the games being able to get out games <v Speaker 2>in quick succession by reusing assets, and that only goes <v Speaker 2>so far, and at some point you do start to <v Speaker 2>lose quality. And yeah, I don't know. I worry a <v Speaker 2>bit about Sega that they have kind of lost track <v Speaker 2>of the quality that got them back to where they were. <v Speaker 2>But I guess that's the eternal plight to Sega is <v Speaker 2>that you have these cycles of great success followed by hubers, <v Speaker 2>followed by great success followed by hubers, and so we'll see. <v Speaker 3>Yep. <v Speaker 1>I hope that this doesn't necessarily turn them off of <v Speaker 1>like continuing down this path of of Sega or Sonic spinoffs, <v Speaker 1>like like racing Crossworlds and like putting a lot of <v Speaker 1>effort into it. They seem like they put a lot <v Speaker 1>of time, effort and money into this game, and I <v Speaker 1>think it paid off in terms of making a quality product. <v Speaker 1>But they just need to I don't know, I'm not <v Speaker 1>exactly sure what the solution is, Like, do you kind <v Speaker 1>of make it more like an All Star transformed? Do <v Speaker 1>I bring in even more Yakus's stuff and persona stuff <v Speaker 1>and the classic Sega stuff, Like, Yeah. <v Speaker 2>There's been a real sense of recent Saga games of <v Speaker 2>like cheapness about them. I think you saw that a <v Speaker 2>lot in Cross Worlds, where like none of the crossover <v Speaker 2>characters are voiced, that totally silent. That might be an <v Speaker 2>ongoing trend. Yeah, just the thought. <v Speaker 3>Oh, now, well, we'll see what happens with Sega going forward. <v Speaker 3>I'm sure it all be all right. I'm sure it will. <v Speaker 1>The Switch version of Apex Legends will shut down this summer. <v Speaker 1>This is from Chris Culling into VGC. I'm surprised this <v Speaker 1>game was even still going LEXI. I thought it shut <v Speaker 1>down on Switch a long time ago. But the game <v Speaker 1>originally launched on PS four, Xbox one, and PC in <v Speaker 1>twenty nineteen before being important to Switch in twenty twenty one. <v Speaker 1>It might have done all right for a very little bit, <v Speaker 1>but it never really made any money on the Switch. <v Speaker 1>I think a big reason for that is it ran <v Speaker 1>like garbage on the Switch one yeah. <v Speaker 2>I remember hearing it did well out the gates, like <v Speaker 2>it got a lot of downloads, and then people played <v Speaker 2>it and they were like, oh, this is very aspirational, <v Speaker 2>thirst y fps. <v Speaker 1>Yes, okay, so okay, Like it's interesting maybe because they <v Speaker 1>do seem like they want to keep Apex Legends going <v Speaker 1>for even longer than they were thinking maybe a couple <v Speaker 1>of years ago, and that that is not turning into <v Speaker 1>them being like, Okay, let's get this spruced up for <v Speaker 1>Switch two. It's instead it's let's get this shut down <v Speaker 1>Switch one. We are going to be going into what <v Speaker 1>is rumored to be a Nintendo partner direct this week, Lexi, <v Speaker 1>where you know it really should be this should be <v Speaker 1>the partner direct that sets the tone for what kind <v Speaker 1>of third party support Nintendo Switch two is going to have, <v Speaker 1>probably in like the first half of its life. Like <v Speaker 1>this is the director where we'll kind of know what <v Speaker 1>that's going to look like. This is a sign that <v Speaker 1>like EA is not like trying to like burst through <v Speaker 1>a wall to like figure out the Switch ecosystem. But <v Speaker 1>do you expect like that third parties will be showing <v Speaker 1>up in droves or what for this thing coming out <v Speaker 1>of this next direct. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's been interesting. The it's an overuse phrase, but <v Speaker 2>like the the third party support on't switched to has <v Speaker 2>been like the epishame of mixed back. We have seen <v Speaker 2>some incredible ports, we've seen some really impressive ones, and <v Speaker 2>we've seen someones where you're like, fucking Skyrim has like <v Speaker 2>two hundred milliseconds of input delay, what the fuck is <v Speaker 2>going on? And you know, I think some of that <v Speaker 2>is like people getting up to speed with maybe a <v Speaker 2>hardware that they haven't used before, especially switched. <v Speaker 3>To his arm as well, right, or switch to his <v Speaker 3>arm YEP. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, so you know, there's probably plenty of developers who <v Speaker 2>haven't worked a whole lot on arm compared to X <v Speaker 2>eighty six. But yeah, I think that Nintendo were very <v Speaker 2>smart to get panic botun involved in their in house <v Speaker 2>stuff because panic bohun did some real good switch two <v Speaker 2>ports or some real impressive switch two ports. A lot <v Speaker 2>of those ports are still like this isn't how I <v Speaker 2>play the game, but they definitely showed a lot of like, <v Speaker 2>oh no, we're squeezing a lot out of this in <v Speaker 2>a way that seemed like a very moneyball partnership. And <v Speaker 2>so I think that when it comes to like the <v Speaker 2>companies that we're gonna see partnering with Nintendo going forward. <v Speaker 2>And yeah, already have the switch to version of APEX <v Speaker 2>and I played a little bit of that and it <v Speaker 2>looks okay. It's like a locked thirty FPS, which is good, <v Speaker 2>and it looks sharper. And the main problem with getting <v Speaker 2>back into that game now is that it's so different <v Speaker 2>to when I played one hundred hours of it, like <v Speaker 2>back in twenty nineteen twenty eight or twenty twenty and <v Speaker 2>so yeah, and the other challenge it was just mentioned <v Speaker 2>in chat there, like the storage space will be an <v Speaker 2>ongoing challenge for the switch. Some of these games like <v Speaker 2>use Out with Final Fantasy remake, they are just very big, <v Speaker 2>and how do you get that onto a console that <v Speaker 2>its internal storage is pretty small? And then the external <v Speaker 2>storage or the you know, SD cards that you buy <v Speaker 2>for it are still pretty expensive. They're not going down <v Speaker 2>in price like people are kind of expecting, and they <v Speaker 2>probably won't if trends continue. So it's gonna be an <v Speaker 2>interesting thing where like suddenly, I think you're gonna see <v Speaker 2>this across the games industry is a reevaluation on what <v Speaker 2>like optimization looks like optimization is going to start, meaning <v Speaker 2>stuff like how much space does it take up in <v Speaker 2>a way that we haven't really had to deal with, <v Speaker 2>you know, since the cartridge days, or since the PS <v Speaker 2>two days, or since well online downloads for patches became <v Speaker 2>a thing. So yeah, it's gonna be an interesting couple <v Speaker 2>of years when it comes to that stuff. I'm very <v Speaker 2>curious to see what does show up with that partner <v Speaker 2>direct and I'm pretty hopeful that will be some interesting Yeah. <v Speaker 1>I think I think, you know, people in CHET Expedition <v Speaker 1>thirty three, you can easily show up at this thing. <v Speaker 1>I think we'll get the update on like, hey, what's <v Speaker 1>going on with elden Ring, a bunch of games that <v Speaker 1>have been on you know, Steam deck in one way <v Speaker 1>or the other. <v Speaker 3>We'll certainly have to come to switch here. <v Speaker 1>The question will be, okay, does EA put like NHL, <v Speaker 1>not just FIFA, and not just Madden at least for now, <v Speaker 1>but do just like n CUAA Football come to the <v Speaker 1>switch too? And then do they like they're like, okay, <v Speaker 1>do we start like bringing some of these other games <v Speaker 1>we've released released recently, like Star Wars Jedi Survivor that <v Speaker 1>got downpoorded to Xbox one and PlayStation four. Why did <v Speaker 1>they do that if not to put it on switch <v Speaker 1>to Well, let's see that that should probably show up <v Speaker 1>here at this then. So I'm curious about that level <v Speaker 1>of third party support, and I expect some of it. <v Speaker 1>I'm not expecting all of it, but we'll see. All right, <v Speaker 1>that does it for the headlines. Last Friday was the <v Speaker 1>bomb twelve, so of course we don't have a pull question, right, right, <v Speaker 1>Jan Mike Vanatti would not have just gone off the <v Speaker 1>rails and done his own thing when he hosted the <v Speaker 1>show on Friday. Rights, Sorry, grub. <v Speaker 3>I asked you to rain him in to control that boy, <v Speaker 3>all right? <v Speaker 1>His poll question from Friday, are you excited about Nintendo's <v Speaker 1>twenty twenty six lineup so far? Seventy eight percent said no, <v Speaker 1>twenty two percent said yes. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. <v Speaker 1>I think Nintendo's got a lot of work to do <v Speaker 1>to kind of convince people that that five hundred dollars <v Speaker 1>purchase was worth it, and it'll start here with this direct. <v Speaker 3>But a partner direct is only going to go so far. <v Speaker 1>Like it's important, it's still important early on to show <v Speaker 1>the third party sport is going to be there, But <v Speaker 1>the reason there's a reason people bought this thing. <v Speaker 3>It was to play Nintendo games. <v Speaker 1>There's like early rumors that there's going to be yet <v Speaker 1>another direct soon that will be a regular direct. <v Speaker 3>And I'm like, I don't think they're going to do <v Speaker 3>a what they had. <v Speaker 1>They had the Tomadacci Life Direct last week, this rumored <v Speaker 1>partner Direct this week, and then next week or the <v Speaker 1>week after they're going to have another. <v Speaker 3>Like, I don't know. <v Speaker 1>That seems like a bit much, but it's Nintendo. They <v Speaker 1>could be weird. All right, we have a new poll question. <v Speaker 1>We'll get to here in a second. But before we <v Speaker 1>do that, Lexie, why don't you tell people where they <v Speaker 1>can find you on the internet what you have going <v Speaker 1>on and all that good stuff. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, you can find me on Blue Sky at Lexlody <v Speaker 2>dot xyz. I'm currently reviewing a bunch of games for <v Speaker 2>Game of Guides. My most recent review is a review <v Speaker 2>of Karen, Karen, Karen and You're Getna Write with Karen, Yeah, <v Speaker 2>which I gave a ninety five too. I really really <v Speaker 2>liked that game. I was very impressed by it and <v Speaker 2>that game Yeah, that game is worth playing. Real interesting. <v Speaker 2>Go check out my review of it. And I'm reviewing <v Speaker 2>two other games for them at the moment, which should <v Speaker 2>be sometime next week in bargos for those And yeah, <v Speaker 2>you can catch me around here every now and again, <v Speaker 2>and I'm doing my thing excellent. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, we'll get back on the show again real soon. <v Speaker 1>In the meantime, new poll question, did you get Sonic <v Speaker 1>Racing Cross Worlds? <v Speaker 3>Yes? No, not yet but soon. Those are your three options. <v Speaker 1>We will get the results of this poll all rounded <v Speaker 1>up on YouTube dot com slash at Giant Bomb. <v Speaker 3>If you go to the posts tab there you can <v Speaker 3>find it and. <v Speaker 1>We will report the results on Wednesday's show of Game <v Speaker 1>Mest Mornings here on Giant Bomb. <v Speaker 3>Speaking to Giant. <v Speaker 1>Bomb, we are going to determine what's happening for the <v Speaker 1>rest of the week. But you know, tomorrow's the BombCast. <v Speaker 1>Wednesday will have a Blake Club. <v Speaker 3>It is still Mike's turn. It might be for quite <v Speaker 3>some time. He's playing Virtuo So why that doesn't make sense. <v Speaker 2>It's it's a blightening round. <v Speaker 3>Blake and you'll miss it, everybody. <v Speaker 1>It's yeah, Virtuoso is looking like it's going to be <v Speaker 1>here to stay for quite some time. And then it'll <v Speaker 1>be Dan's turn and I've I've given. I'm like handing <v Speaker 1>it over to my like I I will support Mike. <v Speaker 1>I'm not gonna be like Mike, you're on your own, <v Speaker 1>But I'm leeving it up to Mike. <v Speaker 3>About whether or not now is the time to punish Dan. <v Speaker 1>Like there's one he could do that would be Oh, <v Speaker 1>you know, here's a long play of it on the <v Speaker 1>internet where someone finished it in an hour. <v Speaker 3>I don't think Dan would finish this game in an hour. <v Speaker 1>But this look, I'm not gonna say anything else. It's <v Speaker 1>up to Mike. We'll see what he thinks. Everyone, there's <v Speaker 1>still time to change up Dan's game. In the meantime, though, <v Speaker 1>the rest of this week on Jibob's gonna be great. <v Speaker 1>Be sure to turn out once again. Thank you to <v Speaker 1>everybody who helped us out with my ice out Minneapolis. <v Speaker 3>The stream was so much fun. It was absolutely worth <v Speaker 3>it to get out there. <v Speaker 1>I was telling Dan it's actually kind of a breeze <v Speaker 1>to get out to Minneapolis, and I was happy to <v Speaker 1>show up and support that town and support the immigrant <v Speaker 1>community there that it's just wonderful. Every time I've been there, <v Speaker 1>it is. They're always so warm and so welcoming. It <v Speaker 1>is hard not to interact with them. They make that <v Speaker 1>city work, and it works. It's a beautiful place, and <v Speaker 1>I just you all know that now, obviously you do. <v Speaker 1>And thanks to everybody from the game's industry that that <v Speaker 1>did show up. <v Speaker 2>And a shout out to the community for like doing <v Speaker 2>crazy shit like donating twenty five thousand dollars anonymously on <v Speaker 2>the person who donated ten thousand dollars just to make <v Speaker 2>Jacob play The Jump a video game, which I am <v Speaker 2>very excited for. <v Speaker 3>Yep, that's right. <v Speaker 1>So that is a special Blake Club coming up soon. <v Speaker 1>We're figuring out the details. Surprisingly, Ben Hanson is very <v Speaker 1>good at a lot of things. Details sometimes a little <v Speaker 1>bit difficult. We're probably going to get that in after <v Speaker 1>the Blightning round, but it'll depend on Jacob's schedule. <v Speaker 3>We're gonna have. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, I'm going to be honest, as someone who's like <v Speaker 2>a really big fan of Jacob, he should have to <v Speaker 2>write a video essay on this. <v Speaker 1>I mean, I'm assuming that he won't be able to <v Speaker 1>help himself, right, They just fall out of him at <v Speaker 1>a certain point. So yeah, he'll play that game and <v Speaker 1>next thing you know, he's going to be a Jumperhead <v Speaker 1>and it's jumper Griffin's story. Please no hat in Christians. <v Speaker 2>Right sorry? <v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, all right, excuse me. We did the poll question, <v Speaker 1>we talked about what's coming up. I think what I <v Speaker 1>should do now is say LEXI, thank you so much <v Speaker 1>for hanging out with me today and talk about video games. Man. <v Speaker 3>I really appreciate it. <v Speaker 2>Anytime Globe always a pleasure. <v Speaker 3>And thank you all for watching and listening. You are <v Speaker 3>the best audience in gaming. <v Speaker 1>Until next time, have a good one, take care of <v Speaker 1>yourself and goodbye.
