So let's go over some of the various news and actually let's start with guys who used to play here and what they're going to do. Mo Diabat is this week getting on? I would assume a playing to Queens and he's going to Saint John's where he's visiting Rick Patino and Saint John's. As soon as I heard this, Ryan, I thought, Mo Diabat, you you draw him up in a book to play for Rick Patino, like he is the perfect Rick Patino player. I actually think he I don't know what the financial situation, but I think he couldn't from a basketball stand, will point ended up in a better play.

He's more toughness, get to the glass defense, and I think Diabate is perfect for that.

He is transferring Old Miss has essentially lost their whole team, and a lot of people think it's because they're not investing any money at all in basketball, and so they're all we have two teams in the SEC that seem to be just punting basketball, which is Old Miss in South Carolina. Travis Perry, what do you think about, let's just say, at an extreme discount, Mark Pope wanted to bring him back to be backup or maybe even third string point guard, eleventh twelfth man on the team. You're already saying no, do you think that that is would be a good idea or do you think you say, look, we love you, Travis, good luck on whatever's next. Man.

He could probably get some decent money, maybe not as much as he'd make it, oh miss, but he makes some decent money and have a good two year career down there.

I remember when he went to Old Miss, he had committed to Vanderbilt first and then switch back to Ole Miss. I'm still I don't don't know anything, but I'm still watching Vandy because I knew they were really high on him. And I know he didn't have the best year at Old Miss. But if you're paying attention to Nashville, he finished really strong. He was a big part of He.

I mean, if you go to vander you're still playing the same guys you were playing at Kentucky and Old Miss. Now, you're right, he did finish the season strong, and that game they played where they won, and then that they almost came back. Yeah, he had he played really well in those games. All right, So let's go to the Kentucky side. We have our first visit scheduled and it is occurring today. Zoom Diallo a point guard from Washington UH is going to be at Kentucky today.

Speaker 2: For people who haven't seen him, he's a he's probably the fifth, sixth, seventh best point guard in the in the portal. Very good. Probably kind of would remind you in terms of how he's ranked at like what Butler was when he amen also friends with and former teammate of Tyron Stokes, which I think is not a small part of all this. What do you think about zoom Diallo if they if he ended up being the point guard right now? The two main guys it looks like Kentucky They've talked to a lot of people, but the two they're most associated with are him and then the BYU point guard, who is considered one of the best five or six players in the portal. What would you do if you reremark, Pope, I like zoom Diallo a lot.

Speaker 5: He's probably if I'm ranking the guys I want a point guard, he might be number two behind Rob right from BYUH. He's got a good game, score a lot of points at Washington, can go get his own bucket. But I'm also, as someone who's not giving up on Stokes, love that that's one more things to put to put on the list for Stokes to consider. Same with you know, ad Moo Williams. I think is a big part in that. I think if you go get zoom Diallo, it's just another thing where you can show Stokes you can be comfortable here.

Speaker 2: Do you think this is a Stokes play? I mean, I you know, because they've got a decent shot at the rob right BYU kid. They talked to Daydon Thomas that lsu. I mean they have a lot of point guard potential options. Bringing zoom Diallo first, is that like a we are trying to get tiring Stokes and we will. This guy could be the point guard with it.

I think just the fact that Mark has had no commitments all year in the recruiting class, people just want to get something. I do think it's important. Remember there's a hunt. The top one hundred players ranked in the portal, ninety two still have not committed somewhere, so sometimes it can feel like guys are committing. There's still ninety two of the top hundred. But I will say, Drew, for this fan base, if they could get a boom this weekend and have their point guard and it be a solid guy, I do think that would be helpful.

It's hard to ask for much more than Zoom Diallo of rights off the board, and they're not really involved with some of the other top names. So yeah, I would consider him of the star category, and I assume he'd take another big leap forward, hopefully and be playing around guys that'll make him better.

Speaker 2: We had two Kentucky guys that they had talked to both commit yesterday. Dink Pate, the g leaguer that we talked about a lot, and uh Miles Bird from San Diego State. Both those guys committed yesterday and both committed to Providence, which means which is not a school anyone would ever think about anybody committing to. So what that tells me is Providence boosters decided we are gonna be good at basketball, and so we are going to spend a lot of money to be good at basketball. They have a new coach, Brian Hodgson, who came from South Florida. I have to tell you. I thought dink Pate would be nice to have because he could score a lot, but there's still it's not clear whether he'll be eligible. I didn't understand really to hype on Miles Bird as much as a lot of people thought, although he is highly ranked in the portal. Uh doesn't bother me. We lost those guys, but it does show Providence Drew trying to be good. Yeah, I was more.

They probably overpaid both those guys quite a bit of money to come. That's kind of Providence saying we're gonna take basketball seriously and we want to do it early so we get publicity. There's this perception out there that that Mark Pope whiffs and it's hard, you know, I know that people sort of people have heard me say this a lot, and then there'll be a there will be criticisms of people say, Matt, you're just complaining because they know the staff doesn't talk to you. I promise that's not it. I mean, I'd love to have a better relationship to where they commute, but they don't communicate with anyone. And part of that problem is we don't really know who Kentucky wants. So anytime a kid associates his name with Kentucky, which every kid does because they think it jacks up their worth and because they get to put Kentucky on their list, it looks like he whiffs Drew. Whether he whiffs or not, we don't really know who they're what they're doing. And because no one knows, I think there's this perception Mark Pope can't get guys. But they kind of feed into it by not sort of letting the fans know who they even want.

Speaker 5: And with pet especially, I mean Kentucky, first we heard of him, Kentucky was recruiting him early. Kentucky was really the only school having contact KA talk to. And then When Kentucky gets knocked out of the tournament, Mark Pope and his family hop on a plane and they're in New York recruiting him right away. So I mean that one does honestly look like a whiff. I'm not gonna get into the whiff culture because I think that's a little overblown, but I mean it's very clearly he was pursuing him hard and Peyton ends up going another direction.

My worry was if we took him, you commit this money to him, you build your team around him, and then he all of a sudden he gets ruled ineligible, and you go, well, what do we do now. I mean, that was my worry because I think it's un I think he ends up very likely getting to play. But there's a world where Congress passes legislation. We're gonna talk a little bit later. I spoke to someone yesterday that's one of the main people working with Congress on the legislation, So I feel like I actually now know what's going on. You know, they want to keep guys like that from playing. We'll see if it ends up happening.

Somebody wrote me yesterday and it was a long email, but it basically said this, since Kentucky's been a program, if you look at our history of coaches, we have had, with the exception of maybe two years, one of the best coaches in college basketball as our coach. We'll talk in a minute about they kind of ranked them in tears, but really, no matter what, we've always had one of the best college basketball coaches as our coach. Their question was do you think we have that now? And I want you to think about that question when we come back, and then I want to talk about some goofy stuff. We'll be right back. They basically said, Matt, I want you to think about since UK basketball became UK basketball post World War Two. They basically said, with the exception of the two Billy Clive years, we have always had a coach that was at least considered in the coaching world top ten at worst Top twelve. Point being that when we had rup Patino and Cal. Everyone would have agreed that we had one of the top five coaches in college basketball. Maybe towards the end and Cal slipped off that list, but for the most part, people would have always said, you've got one of the best five coaches. And if you had the Rup Beatino and Cal years, that's like forty plus years, forty five years of Kentucky history. Then in the tubby Joby Hall and even Eddie Sutton years, people would have said, okay, well you at least have one of the top ten or top twelve coaches during those years, even if not top five. So the point was sent, you know, for seventy five years we have had top ten to top twelve coaches here, with the exception of two years and with Billy Glasbie. So the question was, Matt, do you think Mark Pope is a top ten or twelve coach? And I don't know the answer to that question. I mean, I think he's not today. But the question would be this person's email point was in determining in the future Mark Pope's fate here, don't you have to ask is he a top ten or twelve coach? Because with the exception of Billy Gillespie. That's what we've always had here. What are your thoughts on that question?

For him to take that ragtag group of guys at the last minute, throwing staff together at the last minute, have a pretty good season, get to sweet sixteen.
