You know, I was flying back yesterday from New York and I'd often consider myself the chumba oneba of books, the one hit and I was, I can't do that anymore. I know I have two hits, and so I started thinking about two hit wonders, something I really they hadn't thought about much, the two hit wonder. I've thought about the one hit wonder a lot, because it's something that people talk about a lot. And you know, the original definition of the one hit wonders a Top forty Billboards song meaning Garth Brooks is actually a one hit wonder because he's only had one song ever hit the big chart in the top forty, and do you know what that was? Uh, it's a Chris Gaines song. Yeah. So with that definition, you know, that's kind of where I come into. This is the universal definition of one hit wonder is the main chart, not to us Garth Brooks is to me. He's the best at all time. And he actually is the biggest seller of all time of all formats, period records, which is crazy to think about it. Wrote that in my book, like he sells he seld more than Elvis. He's sold more than the Beatles. Now I take that back, not the Beatles. He's the biggest selling solo artists of all time, heess what it is, but more so than Elvis, more so than any other, you know, mainstream artist. But so, the one hit wonder is anyone that's had a hit in the top forty and then they go away forever. And then I thought, well, the two hit wonder, because I now I'm the two hit wonder, And so I was looking up two hit Wonders and people like ol City, and so I thought, you know what they we're just talking about this on the podcast. I was flying back from New York. By the way, I went to watch Hamilton's I Gotta hook up, and they're, okay, we have we have your ticket to Hamilton's. And I'm not one that knows anything about Broadway. The most Broadway I know is that Broadway in Nashville where aybody peas in the street and gets drunk. You know, that's Broadway where all the bars are. I think I've been maybe two plays before our musicals. I don't even know if one of them was off Broadway or not. But so I go because I have a theory that most things in popular culture, if light minded people like them, you'll also like them. And so I went to see what it was. Now, I didn't know that it is all music. There's never a talking part in the movie, in the musical, so I didn't anything about it. I didn't so when it starts and it's all it's ninety hip hop and a little bit of singing, I didn't know that they never stopped. I thought they would. They would talk for a bit, and like a musical, it's like today, I'm out here looking at the tree. Can you believe how beautiful it is? And music comes in right? But no, no, no, it just the music doesn't stop. And I didn't know that. So I'm sitting in my seat. Got they get hooked up with great seats too. I'm like fourth row, right in the middle. I mean, I can see the sweat coming down their faces. Actually the microphones they wear, you know, the little clear microphones like the ones that I wear when I do stand up, um a bit smaller, but had great seats. Places packed, everybody's super excited and they come out and they start this song and I'm like, wow, that was pretty crazy. But then they go right in to a second song and I'm like, whoa, here we go all right when we're gonna Because I didn't I wasn't really keeping up. I was just like Okay. About the fourth song, I realized, oh, they're not stopping. No, no one had told me, and some people would say, hey, you should check out the music before you go in. I thought, why would I do that. I want to go experience it. But if you don't check the music out, befo, because that's touring now. And I only tell this story because if it comes to a town near you and you go to it, listen to the music first, because you at least know what's happening a bit, because just like in any hip hop song, sometimes you missed the references because it's so fast. Is I excuse it? And you're like, what what? Huh? And so I I bought a third of the way through the play, I was dialed in, and I really started to enjoy it and really appreciated the writing of it because it's two hours and forty minutes of just hip hop, and it's also teaching your history because what I learned also is Alexander Hamilton' was probably and not just to display, but he was probably the most influential American of all time ever. And you you learn about these things debatable, you know, I probably listened to three pots cast right, uh, seven different essays. I mean, others than breaking out the book. I've spent the last couple of days doing my research on what Alexander Hamilton's did which and I won't get into the weeds too much, but the thing that I find most interesting about him was that he understood the value of debt. And this is a hundred and fifty years before this was the thing. But he took all of the colony slash states debt combined them, said we'll take that as the national debt now once we became this sovereign country, and then said we want to owe more people. We don't owe other countries even more money. Because what he realized was that when you owed someone money, they needed you to stay alive. And so if he we let's say we borrowed some money from France, I was just as an example, we borrowed a dollar from France. Well, France, if we went bankrupt and died in the country with France, never got paid again. So France needed us to stay alive, so they helped us. And so he realized this, and I was like, no, the national debts a great thing. First of all, it makes us legit. We've taken all the state's debt and combined in one federal debt. That could be a little bit off here. Again, I've only spent two days actually studying this, but but this is one of the concepts where I go, oh, this is what our entire country is built on. But he realized that debt actually was a positive because if someone owed you money, that person needed you to stay alive. And yeah, I listen, I thought the play was was really just like nothing I've ever seen. I don't e want to say really good because I feel like that's an insult to it, because it was like nothing I've ever seen. And but I can see where playing the soundtrack to a kid or someone, let's say a ten year old to like ship Off, they could actually learn something because I did. Again, I didn't know, And I'll play some of this. What's this track called again? This is like something from school. This is a and it's gonna sound very Broadway a bit. But this is about the election of eighteen hundred. Literally, it's about the election of eighteen hundred. You can go into a social studies class here you go listen to some of that. Can we get back to politics, please? Yo. Every action has the equal opposite reaction. John Adams, that's the band. I love the guy, but he's in traction. Or Alexander Hamilton, he is missing in action. So now I'm facing Aaron with his own faction. So this is Thomas Jefferson rappings, basically Thomas Jefferson telling a story and you turned it up again, but it is him. And they say I'm a Francophile. At least they know I know where France is Thomas. That's the problem. See they see and for three hours it's like a DJ and music down there, just switching up beats and and what they do at times is they turn it into a rat battle. So they would go into uh, like in the chamber and they would go, you know this is where they just say, like this where Jefferson and Hambleton's debated, but instead it's a rap bout on like throw the two microphones and it's like here, I mean, it's cool, it really is. It's like nothing I've seen, so for me to compare to something would be I feel like I've been insulting. But again, you can turn it down. But yeah, it was cool. I think you'd like it because you learn the music is really good, and then it actually stimulates you to go and learn more. Because I did, I was like, wow, I needn't know more about this. So, yeah, does did it sound appealing to you? Before I talked about it at all? Oh? Did you? So? I never took it? I said, my Broadway and I kind of go and then it's not for me. I'm not cool enough. I'm not cultured enough. But to you it did seem cool something I would never get to do though, UM, yeah, I guess me too. And then I said my agent it was like, hey, we like we can get tickets the third and um, I would have thought it would have been slammed because you really can't get it anyway. But but my agent in New York, who does like my TV deals, American Idol and um other stuff, she was like, hey, we have like ten tickets a show. You have to pay for them, but you can't even get from the normal price. Now you have to get them all jacked up on the internet. But she's like, normal price if you want to come. And I was like, all right, cool, So I did. It was good, you'd like it, and it's touring now. To is my point, it's in all the because I posted the booklet, people like, oh are you in Chicago? Are you and wherever? There's like a something going on the country. So if you get a chance to see it, it's obviously gonna be cheaper when it comes around. Not to say it, but it's good. And I didn't think that I would like it. I didn't really what it was. I just I knew Hamilton was a big thing for same people talk about on TV. I knew it was about Alexander Hamilton's I really didn't know much about him except for he was George Washingtons, right, hey man, that's really all I knew about it from history, and he got put into the most influential cabinet spot as soon as Washington took over, which was the head of Treasury again. And I don't have any facts in front of me. I'm just going from what I saw, but so much more I wanted to go read because I knew I missed a lot of it because I was just like, when are they gonna talk? And they never talk? But it was cool. The DJ we just like switch up beats and that going, and I was good. This good. It's good because I did that. It's kind of really the only thing that I've done over the past few days. We've been on vacation. I have Miked hasn't been on vacation. He doesn't get as much vacation yet, he doesn't have as much seniority as a few of us on the show do. But um, I did that. I watched Coco last night. Have you seen Cocoa? It's freaking good. I mean it's really good. I only watched it because I have a friend in she's very dark, since the humor she's very nothing makes her sad or it just He's like, you should watch Cocoa because she said it made me feel a certain way. And I was like, all right, So I was like, how I watched? Is they gonna be Coco or The Greatest Showman, which I've been. I'm gonna watch that. Amy and I had a thing on the air about that, which is a musical too, and that's a real life thing about Pete Barnum. So I feel like I'm going to learn about this and then go down the wormhole of Pete Barnum, like I know what's gonna happen. But I watched Coco and I just kind of felt my it's it's streaming on Netflix right now too, so I have to buy it. Didn't run it, and I loved it in this song here at the end, remember me, remember so it's so it's so good. Yeah, time you sad your job? No with you the only way that can mean until your and my kid remember. So. I didn't think that I would like it. Straight up. I thought that I might like it, as is that a Pixar movie. I thought I might love it, but well, you know what for kids movies. I mean, I just liked it. It was just good. Aside from liking it for a kids movie, I just liked it. I thought it was really good. So yeah, I mean that's really what I did. Watch some Glow, like that show on Netflix. You know, I watched the first season. I gets I like things that have a bit of true history in them, which is why I got into the first season, and they're only thirty minutes each. And then I watched the real documentary on Netflix of the Women of Glow, which is a female wrestling gorgeous ladies of wrestling. It's what it stands for. And I did that, and now I'm watching the second season. Is what this is. Someone was done with it. But are you watching that? It's pretty good. I think I'm a little more than halfway through. I think I'm on nine of ten. So and then I I've dabbled on the staircase a little bit. Okay, you have to get to the first episode, because the first I was terrible. Okay, I couldn't. I couldn't either, and I kept drifting away from it and I would just get on Twitter or got this book I'm reading I'll be like, ah, but I kept it on. I got into the second said I'm gonna give the secondpisode a shot because a lot of people were tweeting me saying give it a shot, give it a shot, and you know my theory that if a lot of people that are like minded like something in popular culture, it's probably good. I'll watched second episode. I was like, oh, is that or so I'm not told listen, I'm not an advocate for the Staircase yet because it's a lot of episodes. But I started to feel a bit of that pivot where I go, oh, now we're talking about second level stuff. So yeah, let me encourage you because I'm only an episode ahead of you. So I it's not like I can tell you to invest a lot of your time into it. But the Staircase, I'm going to watch episode three if that says anything to you. And I could barely get through episode one, but the episode two it turns you a bit. But I'll leave it at that. Maybe in a later edition the podcast will come back and catch up on that. But all of the stuff going through my head is I it's flying back from New York, and you know what's funny too about flying is that there's really no stress on me. When I was I flew like a southwest of eleven AM to New York and then stayed there for about twenty hours and got saw this flight and flew back. When you don't have to do it for work, it's kind of just chill. You just go to the airport like I just don't. I don't hate flying as much whenever I'm traving to get somewhere. No, no, the time. Well, it's not a just in case scenario all the time. And I'm not really juggling sleep because that's been the biggest part of my life for the past fifteen years and trying to figure out what I'm gonna sleep so I can, I think clearly be effective. It'd be healthy. I just went to the airport out if I got like twenty minutes once and I was like, fine, I'm good, you have me. I had some grapes and some grapes, read a magazine. I didn't even know who I was pretty nice. So I flew up when the one thing I wanted to do in New York's going to the freaking shoe store and it was closed. It was July fourth, and I thought, maybe they'll be open in the daytime. It's New York, Downtown New York pretty progressive when it comes to keeping things open all time. I know it's a holiday, but and it's not firework time till nighttime, so I would be close in daytime. But really I knew but but a lot of things were open um but now it was closed. It's the one thing I wanted to do. I know, sad get on the fly to fly back home, and I tweeted out, because you know, the book's done well. I said, hey, I'm no longer the Chumba Wamba of books. I said, I'm not to hit wonder and so I started to write out little things on Twitter. I was like that the tone look of literature. And then I just started the al City of riding witty and I just started making up these things. And so then I I had sent Mike. I sent you a text message. I was like, hey, we should do a a whole podcast on two hit wonders, because that's kind of a thing people that have had two hits and then faded away. And so I've made a top ten list here and I kind of felt bad sending you all these clops, but then you sent me another list of clips. It's like a hundred more clips, and I was like, oh, I don't even feel that bad then anymore. How but how hard is it for you to put in a clip when we do this show. I don't know. All these clips maybe take me thirty minutes. It's like, okay, well even to send you these at my top ten list of two hit wonders, so it's twenty clips. I thought, I feel bad about that, but I guess I don't, okay, Number ten of two hit wonders. The Bloodhound Gang. Now they had two hits. You may know this was their first song that actually didn't because you'll see the trajectory of most of these. They have a big smash hit it first, and their second hit kind of crawls up and barely gets into the top forty. But this was different because Firewater Burned from the Bloodhound Gang was their first one. And you'll know the hook is for sure. Here's the song the room the roof is on fire. I say you know that, You know that? Okay. I think a lot of people will know this. They don't know who it is here, so fire we don't need no burn. Motherfucker's a bad word any um. So there's that. And then so that was a song and it was kind of novel. And then they had the Bad Touch, which I remember playing on the radio with me baby ain't nothing but man. Also, let's do it like they do, want to discover Rea channel? Do it again? Now do you know who the song? Yeah? Yeah too, like kind adobe white dudes, that kind of rap. Yeah, there you go. That's number ten, favor two it wonders. Now I have at number nine Rachel Platton, who's still a current artist and will probably have another hit. And she's really the only one that's still someone who has a shot to put a song in the Billboard top forty. So you fight song, everybody fights on this gigantic and also stand you from Michel Patton because I think she's the one of these two hit wonders that has a chance to jump out of this. He's the only one and probably you know, as a matter of fact, she probably will have another hit, but right now she's a two hit wonder. And number eight Katie Tunstall. You remember a black horse in the cherry Tree. Here's the night here, No no, no, no no. And then suddenly I same, remember that one, Remember that you ember the other one? I remember, really Black Horse in the Cherry Tree was so big. It was on American Idol back end the day when American I was like, I think everybody watched and I remember it. That's number eight talked to two hit wonders. Remember, I'm just using the Billboard chart. That's my the main Billboard chart. So if you have any issue, I don't care like you can say, well, this chart in the rock chart, the modern rock the album I didn't matter. I'm just using the main basically what they call the top forty chart, the Billboard Top forty, which is really hard to get into, by the way, it's the top forty songs. Airplay excuse me, streaming, Uh, I don't know, whistling, I don't know what you do. It's so hot up period' druing drink water as I as I do this in my house, I don't know. I can't keep it cool. I don't my bedrooms like eighty degrees. I'm calling the air conditioner guy just to teach me how to use my air conditioner. It may be broken, I don't know, but I'm calling my a C guy and you can't come until next week obviously it's the holiday. And I just like, teach me how to use this thing. It's not even a new kind of air conditioner. I feel like there's something we're missing. Yeah, I do too, for some reason. Would just hold a temperature either. You gotta constantly be like, give me thirty more minutes. It's like putting money into one of those air hoses at the gas station. We're like, oh, it's my I gotta it's putting thirty more cents. It's like hold into it, like no, no, no, just just he put at seventy three. Yeah, I know. So it's so hot apper. So I haven't a bird, but number seven on the two hit wonder List, the Spin Doctors. You'll probably know two princes from them. Their biggest song back, that's what down jacket minute. Fun fact. I went on a couple of days with a girl that used to be married to a lead singer that man. Wow, I know it's fun back. How about how fund is that bag? I didn't even know that either, And now we're out into Yeah, it's like married. It's like, yeah, what did you was a deal? It's like, yeah, he used to be the lead singer of Spin Doctors, and I was like to get if you prefer to call me baby, just go ahead now? And yeah, she was nice. A little miss can't be Wrong? Is another song? Here you go? Miss kid out? Okay, let me know if you don't know of them. I'm curious because again you're younger than I am. Okay, I think the one is coming up, baby, I don't Paula Cole So Where Have All the Cowboys Gone? Was such a big jam? Did you know this one? Did not know this one? Wow? Where where have you know this song? Give? Yeah? I mean I was a teenager in radio playing this song. I think here turning up just a TV and you heard of that? Did you know? You had to know the other one? Though? I don't want to wait from Dawson's Creek though, right, she had two heads, and if I remember correctly, she had Aren't it here in the video for Where Have All the Cowboys Gone? I think maybe one of the video she raised a wrong up aren't be here? It's like, oh, function, look there write that. That's how Polic called him six number five to it wonder vertical Horrizon. This is my list, by the way, this is nothing except the people that I loved the most. They had to It's Vertical Horizon. Everything you Want was such a massive song. Here you Go said everything you Want YEA couldn't have named the band zone really. The second one barely made it and I remember it because I used to play it. But She's a God was vertical Horizon. The second song from them God nah, yeah nah you know that song? Oh you have? Wow? This is the one I thought you wouldn't have known just because it's yeah it. I had to see it to remember it. Once I heard the hook, I was like, Okay, I really it. So there's number five two hit Wonders, number four Eve six, which holy crap. When they put out inside Out, I mean this song was a jam. I had to be a teenager hearing the song. I don't remember this one nothing Wow, but the tender heart and a blender want today around to a beautiful of living in Rondabout and I'm through with you. You don't from the beginning, So when you heard that first thing that damn, I would swallow them up prod you didn't know that? Huh? Wow? Did you know the other one? Here to the Night. I remember the music video. Really, this song wasn't near as big as Inside Out I thought was bigger. No, I don't something, what do I know? What do I know? I remember the album cover? Yeah, turn it stop before I mean I I don't have any data in front of me, so you could you absolutely could be right about that. I remember inside Out just changing the eve stick was like boom, here they are ten thousand pounds weight that song when it just fell into radio number three. Uh, tone Look, which, by the way, I've had a couple of fun experiences of the tone Look, including him passing out of the concert. But he had two hits and two massive hits, and I was young, young, young. There's no way you remember these from them being real songs. You've only had to hear them in past tense, right, Uh Funky cole Medina as the Funky I used to do record play pause on the radio because I was a young kid. And what you do to record it on tape because I wish that the stupid DJO was stopped talking. I hate him when you talk over the intros because I wanted to record him on a cassette tape. So you pushed record play and pause, and that holds the recording. Then when you let off pause, it records it because did the push record and play together to pause, and stupid DJ would talk over to the front of the song. And because you'd record a mixtape literally from the radio. This is how old school it is. And that was one and then he had a wild Thing to him basically the same song pretty much. Yeah, I remember it more than actor Wow tone. Look. Yeah. He was in like a couple of Naggies movies, Blank Kick, I still Rock where I'm not happy. I don't know. He was in a sick on. I think he had one off on a couple of sitcoms hits one sitcom I remember the name of it, The Family, and the next one River was Jimmy who worked a security guard. That does matter. He was also in Surf Ninja's she said that's my number three on my best to hit wonder m h. It's probably been seven years or so now. We paid him five thousand dollars as a radio station to come to a concert. We did the old school like flashback prom where it was like, hey, if you want to real live prom, get dressed up, let's have a big party. And we hired him and Young MC, and he got through one song, he started holding his heart and passed out, and we thought he died. I was like, oh my god, we just killed tone. Look he's sweating. I mean he he didn't look like he's in the best of shape anyway. But then I he came back out, did a couple of songs, and he were kind of retired for the night, and I remember feeling grateful that he came back out to do two more songs. I was like, man, that guy really gave it the old college. Try that Tone. Look he shows up and yeah, it really gets things done. You know, he couldn't have to do any more songs. He wasn't feeling great, but he did it. And then I'm on and some listeners send me an article and he sent to my Twitter. They're like, hey, um, he just did the same thing two nights later at a different show. Apparently that was his thing. Yeah, yeah, I don't know if he just didn't want to do a whole set or what, but he came back out. Let's just say he did one of those two songs. So he did funky cole Medina grabbed his heart. It was out for like forty minutes. Then it came back out and did fund comedy again Wild Thinking something else and pieced out. You have to really commit to it. You have to really commit to that. I'm almost gonna die. I wish I could remember that sitcom that Tone Lake was in, because there was this whole arc where because again Jimmy was a security guard that lived next door and I believe they lived up in the northeast or maybe California, which is nothing to do with each other. How old was it. It's probably early to late nineties, early two thousand's. It was un syndication, and Tone Look played that there was this bar in a part of Talent that they didn't go into very often, and they went to it. Tone Look played like this this guy who was supposedly kind of, you know, like a hardened criminal, but he really wasn't. But if he'sai the name of it, I'll remember rude Awakening District Steeves. You said, I'm gonna remember, but that's all right, it's gonna tip of my tongue. I don't want to sit here and wait you get Let's see. Let's move on to number two of two hit Wonders. It was a sea Baron Jamal hm okay Lfo, and they had a Their big one was a summer girls, Here you Go this one, This one was so good, so good. Yeah, I shouldn't want all the Grammy schools makes me sick, and I think it's y wasn't gonna start by for the summer. For the summer. I like girls that were a crime being fish good. She's being gone since that summer the summer, Cherry Pets Cool Crush rocks to the school had to play being here to the B boy style. Don't add mom, make a girl smile? So you were this she didn't. That song Girl, I don't believe was supposed to even be a radio song. If I remember my facts right again, I have no I think I guess a radio station in Memphis started playing it much like I'll just play a song and go, oh, this is good. It's different because this wasn't a national show. And then people started to pick it up and play it, and it then became like a massive hit for them. But then they had Girl on TV. This is their second song and two hit wonders, Here you Go. They all believe sign and cheese. I think the sad story with this group. Though you followed the group, you know what happened. The lead singer ended up. I believe, I know he died of I knew he died. Yeah, right within the last five years, and it's right now. It's he had h kind of cancer. But yeah, I died away young. And then they had issues because of the guy that put them together with the lou Perlman guy who also put together all the other bands, and lou Pearlman apparently did some really bad stuff to them. But yeah, you got it. Thirty six kimi lu kimi is what it was. Yeah, crazy, thirty six years old. Yeah, but this is you know, there were three people in LF I believe that this is for light funky ones. I didn't know that. Again, I have no dad in front of me. I'm just going so far. If I miss any of this up on this one, you can't really hold it against me, because some of them you can not. This one. Um, yeah, that's a good one. That's a good one. I like that as a boy band. That was kind of my jam LFO. And here's why. Because it didn't just sing. They kind of wrapped they had like the rapper, you know, the main guy was kind of like the rapper and he sing a little bit. They had the singer, which is the guy with dark here, and they had like them, the utility player who could do a little bit of both. So they kind of had you in all of it. If you like hello, little dorky white boy rap, he's got you. If you want somebody can just sing his brains out, he's got you. And if you want someone that kind of does a little bit of both, you know it's good. So yeah, I liked LFO that. There are a number two on my Best two Hit Wonders and finally in my Best two Hit Wonders. It's actually a band in my heart they have like a hundred hits because I love them so much and I bought all the records back in the day and I just that they're fantastic. And it's the presidents of the United States of America. They came onto the scene with the song a Lump as far as on the radio and here is Lump and from the President's United States of America. She's in my head, she's up, she's she's she might bigs. That is the jam. It's not even gonna lie. I loved it, and you probably more so than Wan't know. Their biggest song, which is Peaches, which was awesome. It's come on away Peaches severing day in the shap move into the country, man a lot of peaches and moving into that dream. It's all about right there, the peaches, moving too the country, gonna eating lot of peaches. I found the tone look show. It's called yes Dear, Yeah, yeah, yes dear, two thousand five. There you go tone look yes dear. I gotta email about it just now. No, I did, because I'm not live. No one can hear this until it comes out. Yeah, that's my number one. But instead of just reading the list of all the list that you sent me, which ones did you find? Oh? Iy only had two hits? How about that? Probably when we talked about earlier Markey Mark, we didn't talk about Marky Mark. We did not Mark Wahlberg, who was a rapper. Marky Mark, who was in the early incarnation of New Kids on the Block, left early early and it was his own thing. While Donnie stayed in New Kids on the blog. So this is a good vibration of big song. Barely remember. There's no way you remember the actual song because I remember it later. I don't. I really don't know if I remember it. But then the song called wild side he did. Yeah, I had no idea why this thing. I don't know if I know this. I don't know the song. Oh it's this is uh there sampling take a Walk on a wild Side, which is a different song. I've never heard this before. Yeah, yeah, so this is a sample sort of by lou read Rowan had enough of being broke every day, sing to himself. That's interesting. But listen type in lou read over there walk on the wild side. It's like, uh yeah, baby, take a walk on the wild side. Dude, dude, that's old school that Loue reads ups, probably from like the early seventies, way before, way before we were born. But you'll hear that. That's what that other song is. I've never heard that Marky Mark song though, So this is the original. He has an original. You've heard this, No, listen to a lot of classic rocks. So that's kind of where I have it from. Holly came from mimil A. It chocked away across. Yeah, that's where that comes from. I learned something here and new clocked her eyebrows on the way, shaved their legs and then he was She says, hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side. Say hey, mom, honey, take the um. That was one al City. I mentioned that in my tweets. They had firefly in good Time good I forgot that's pretty good one. Yeah. Al City did a show for us once when I was like kiss FM and peculiar guy, but like you could tell as a total artist. And I respect that because I mean he was dialed into the ark here like lay on the ground and kick in the air, and he was just into it. Weird but into it. I respect anybody just into it. Um. Speaking of good time, Carly ray Jepson had a song called good Time. He's on the song do you not in it? It's not the song, it's the same song. I'm reading this list here. I didn't. I was gonna say, I don't know the song. Saying doesn't counts for whose song is it? Okay? Then no it doesn't. And it's like artists now in country music, like UM. For example, Caine Brown and Lauren Alena. They had the song what ifs that's a Caine Brown song. That's not a Lauren Alena song. She's in the feature um and again Laurence a very close friend of mine. But that should not be a hit for I don't know if it's even considered a hit. But like Christian Cassidy Pope, they did uh whatever that song was they did, it was, Yeah, that's not a Cassidy Pope song. Now, if they win the award for like Best Musical Event or something, that's a that's an award. But that's a Chris Young song with someone on it. If it's a feature, it's a feature because that for artist didn't pick the song and put it on the record, and I didn't pick the person to be on you know. It's that who cares? Really? And the real part of life, like who really cares? It doesn't bother me anyway, But no, no, that's not a Carly ray Jepson song. She's the one hit Oh call Me maybe yes. And by the way, it was I was the very first person in America to play that song her first radio interview and her first radio interview ever. Yeah, I forget about that. Do you know who else I did that with? Because the thing about me and music is I've never done it to be the guy, even if pop I was doing it, but I never did it because it was my thing where I was like check me out as that break up. I just loved music so much. I would take gamble on these artists and go, hey, I'm gonna play your song, don't you come down and play? And but Carly ray Jepson, we had her fly from Canada. She was in Canada at the time, and her very first ever radio interview was on My show, and obviously she had the song called Me Maybe, which was a freaking jam and you can play it because I just like it somewhere. The first time I heard, I was like, oh, we gotta, we gotta get the song. And then she put out the video that was liming a video. It was a video of like her. It was like like people like Justin Bieber was even in it, like a home footage. Yeah, i'd say a feather in the old cap. I forgot about that. There are a few of those pop points. The other one I was talking about was hey, ho the Luminears. I was their first ever performance. They were They were like, what you want us to complain on pop station. I was like, absolutely because I love that song so much. And they came up. And here's the funny part about the Luminears. Is there a there a big deal now in the world of they could sell out? Hey, listen, it's all based on what you can sell at this point. Never look at spins on on Spotify or YouTube views or even radio charts stuff, because I know people who have had top five radio songs that can't sell a hundred tickets. Really, you're as good as the venue you can sell out. That's what you are. That you can sell, you know, seventy percent capacity, and they can sell they play Bridge down these guys in because they just did. And so I'm a fan of their music, and I don't remember. I don't. I don't think of them as somebody that I was like, Oh, but I forgot that I was. I was their first ever interview, and they came. Did you see the record they left me? Oh? Yeah they did. They did. They came and I wasn't in town and they came by and and we're like, hey, I don't think we forgot about you. You know, you're a country now. But they wanted to come play on the show, and I was like, how cool that the Luminaars even remember that, because then it kind of put me back to my head that oh yeah, I was the first one to put them on the air ever. And now it's being the guy that plays new artists has put me in a kind of a pecurious situation where I don't like that. I talked about some in the Ryan Herd podcast. I don't like the place where it's put me because it's an arms race. Now. I feel like whever he's trying to break all these artists. And I didn't do it for any sort of look at me. I'm the artist breaker. I just do it because I love the music and I'm like, oh let me again. I think the people that listen to me and listen to us have we have like minds. And if I can hit them sixty of the time, right, that's people going, oh, Bobby likes it. He kind of represents me in the music front. I like what he likes. Let me see what this is. And so that's why I started putting all these artists on New and but now it's all these different we'll just call them services are taking personally, and they're competing and going, well, if Bobby breaks them, we're just gonna stay away from him. And that's kind of counter productive as to why do it, And so now it's making me go, I don't even if I want to put new artists on anymore, which is not what I want to do it. I just like the music. I'm not trying to get into a penis measuring contest with these other servants, like I'm really not, and I could, I really could rattle off ten instances right now of them penalizing artists because I jumped on him early, and that bothers me to the point where I go, man, maybe I shouldn't do it. But then I don't do it for that. I'm not the guy that my company brought in to break new music. I just do it because I like to do it. Um. But then I go and I tell artists off the record here too, because some artists will play these other guys and go, Bubba doesn't like me, I tell him say that, I'll go to him, just tell him I hate you, And if they know they know they think I hate you, they'll be like, oh, then let let me play, you know, and uh yeah, they'll they'll report back sometimes with some interesting stories. But it makes me. I don't like that. I don't like that an environment of people are competing now to break artists like cool. I mean, I didn't break Carly Pierce and it's and you know, um the dude who like was playing her first I called. I was like, hey, I'm gonna take Cardy on. I know, there's a good thing. It really shouldn't be I should never have to make that call. Hey, but I'm gonna take her on on tour and I'm actually gonna pay her money to open up for a stand up tour. Carl Peer, I say, carp in car Piers, Okay, Carl Piers, that's Carl Tapper. All the car is all the Morgan number two and Morgan number eight. But yeah, it's just not an environment that I I enjoy being a part of. Um, I don't know, what do you think about that? Because I can just stop. I mean, if you like the music, that's the thing. I just like the music. It's not do you see, do you it's all that makes all that makes sense to you? It sucks, But I do tell artists a lot. I say, hey, listen, if you can get uh, we'll just use Apple Music as an example. This is not a thing with Apple Music, so not yet. I don't know that Apple Music has anyone running country yet in a major way. If you can get one of the entities to support you, who cares about the rest? It'll come along if they need to. But it's so hard to just get one of the top five or six to put some full support behind you. Take it and run with it and embrace it. And if you get Apple Music or a serious or a Spotify like and they want to be first on you and they want to champion you, great. Don't worry about what anybody else is doing. Like you be friends with everybody, don't blow them off, but you don't worry about that anyone else is gonna punish you, because it's so hard to get somebody to stand for you that you can't worry about if anybody else is gonna punish you. So that's the advice. And then I say here's how to play. The other guys go to and be like, oh, we haven't given this the bobby yet, and whatever. It's a weird place. Let's see we're rout through some more in these real quick Fun, which I loved as a band. I loved him here as we Are, Young we Are and some Nights. I loved Fun. A cool sound, cool sound. They looked dopey. I like that. It's kind of like a bad version of Weezer. Visually he was small. But now Jack the guys that he's bleachers, They're never gonna get back together. Why would they? Bleacher? Is the thing now? I don't know why they broke up. Natasha, Natasha Beddingfield, Uh man, that's little jam unwritten. She was so nice. Pocket full of Sunshine? Do you know this one? Yeah? I gotta fu a full of full of Sunshine? Yeah like it that. Then I got in a little deep into the artist thing there for a second. But as I was, I didn't even think about that. But I hear something. You know who else I was able to play early before anybody was playing was Megan Trainer. Oh yeah. Her YouTube video had like a thousand views on it of um all about that base Yeah, and I had the reason I knew of but she wrote in town for a long time and a friend was like, hey this uh friend of on Megan, she got this song out. It's got a pretty funny video, and I was like, oh my god, this song is really good. So I started playing on the country station. I got so much heat for it by radio pedes or like this song sucks. I'll never be hit. I don't play on country. It's not country. It wasn't country, it was never meant to be country. I don't think we've talked one country song on this podcast, like I you know, we all have interests outside of country. Um. And then she ended up performing it on I think the c m AS or a c M S and then it turned into a monster smash and I remember her coming up to me going, hey, that was crazy that you played that because nobody was playing that and my mom would listen to it all the time. You play because my mom, I think, was living here at the time. There was a yeah, that was a good one too, man. I like it. See that's pure because I don't even think about those. That's just me going love it, play it, move on in life. Now I have to be somewhat strategic about it, I don't I bet. I guess that comes with when your platform is bigger. But I'm such a fan of the artist and the writer that like this that bothers me, and also I'm better at it than the other guys because I don't it's not my theme. I mean, if there is another service that exists, they've come to me and said, will you take over this? And I've said no because I don't want to be a programmer. If I wanted to be a programmer, I would have started programming radio stations when I was twenty five years old. I wanna be able to do this. I want to talk to people. I want to share thoughts and feelings. I don't even want to pick playlists. I don't want that sounds terrible to me, Like nothing about that sounds fun now for me to go, oh, that's a good song that people will like, ill resonate. I'm gonna play that for people as I'm doing everything else, and that's fun to me. But yeah, there you go. Well that was fun. That's a good one. I like this one. How long has this episode been? Almost fifty minutes? Yeah, it's been a pretty fun one. Anything you'd like to say, uh, I mean a lot of these I knew. I didn't know the artist names and I didn't know the song titles. But once I heard it over yea. Well, let's get an update on the Charlie Worsham Show. I think the last time we were here, I did the talked about the nineties songs. Um I did. Ended up not singing that Summer from Garth Brooks because it was just too much I want to can't sing. And then two it was just you think you know every bit of the words until you have to actually sing it without someone singing behind you, like on radio, not as easy. And I just didn't want to mess it. U. I don't want to disrespect that song or Garth in a setting with her a lot of people and their phones. I never was recording everything I did, you know, pretentious that sounds, but and they were because I started posting it online immediately. Yeah, so uh, I don't say that in a douchey way, and maybe douche I don't care. I am who I am. But I knew they would be recording it and they put it up. So I didn't want to mess that song up because I enjoyed Guarths so much. And but I did prought me up beside the jukebox. Joe Diffy nailed it and I did Alan Jackson Mercury Blues, and I had it. I started to think at one point that I was gonna mess up the word, so I had my phone because it's three verses and like three solos, and I wasn't committed having it right. So I pulled out my phone to do the Instagram and shoot the audience. But I said, I pulled the words up and act like I was shooting the audience, and I was right, thank god. But I did pull it up and I you know, there's some videos up on YouTube or and on Twitter and stuff, and that wasn't half bad. I was. I was a quarterbad, but I had a lot of energy. It was fun. And what I've learned is just go up and have fun like a really nobody cares that much. Go up and half if you it's not about how would you sound, It's about how you make them feel. Now, if you sound so bad, you make them feel bad. That's the thing too, It is that you can't sound so bad. But I went to watch I've seen the Google dolls oddly twice in the past year. They don't sound that good, but they don't sound bad. They do that great. It's it sound fine, but it made me feel good because I like the Google dolls about when I was, and so I think of that when I go up to perform, because if you have, If the Raging Idiots ever get back together, and I don't think we will, we're doing two shows this year and those those were set so long ago that if it came back now, I don't know that I would do them. We have to rehearse the next few weeks and we're But my point is, even looking at that those shows, my band, The Raging Idiots, My goals just to make people feel fun, have feel good, and now I think we do. I think we do. So there's that. Well, well, well, as we come to the end, and let me encourage you to to check out. There's been a couple of really good Bobby cast lately. The Bret Eldridge Bobby Cast was fantastic for a couple of reasons. One, you know, I really hadn't said I've had a long human conversation with Brett Eldridge ever, and I felt like that was pretty good. And both of us kind of shared some things we've never shared before, and that one is being downloaded like crazy, and maybe they want quickest to ever get to a quarter million plays that Jagan was pretty big one though we'll get to a fight, but check out the Brett Eldridge one. And Ryan heard was just in and if There's a High Valley was good. Yeah. That once they came in and I knew those guys a bit because I've been on the road with them, meaning we played festivals together and you're all the busses are just parked in the back and you'd have hanging around each other because of proximity. I knew they were nice guys. But after that Bobbycast we stayed and walked out back and just talked like twenty or thirty minutes, and yeah, I thought, you know, I knew Brad a bit more than it did Curtis. Brad's the lead singer and he's more the straightforward, guying. Curtis is kind of the smart I like one, and I never really hit it off with Curtis. He was all because he's always like, who the hell with the smart remarks? It's all. It was just like one smart remark after another. That being said that Bobby Cast, I kind of changed my feel on him. And then afterward I was like, Oh, I like this guy. A lot. I like them both, but I never really had good time with Curtis, but uh yeah it was good. So you know, another one because I was with Brandon Lancaster from Lanco at this event that's wanted to listen back to. It's pretty good back in the day. Yeah, maybe we should do uh rewind on that one. We don't rewind on that one. We have. Well, that's one to go back and listen to too. Hey, listen. I like to bring in songwriters and there are some people that like to have back a second time that we've done two years ago. But I don't you know, I don't know it. Things have changed so much for a lot of these people in the past couple of years. Well that's it. It is July five as we record this and put it up.
