00:00:06 Speaker 1: NFL Cover zero with Matt Jones and Drew Franklin is a production of the NFL and iHeart Podcast. Welcome everybody in his NFL Cover zero and we are live from Radio Row at the super Bowl super Bowl sixty in San Francisco. 00:00:33 Speaker 2: And I have to tell you I never thought that I would be at the super. 00:00:38 Speaker 1: Bowl and now only are we here, we are here with the NFL, and it is a surreal scene. If you've never been to Radio Row, Basically every media outlet you can think of is here with the biggest names in the sport, all over the country, all over the world. I'm looking right now. It's something called the Irish NFL Show, which is a group of people from Ireland that do a show nice every major network, every major person. And Drew me, you and Billy as well. What a cool day and really looking forward to what's to go. 00:01:16 Speaker 3: Yeah, we're just getting started and I've already had the time of my life. 00:01:19 Speaker 2: I mean we haven't even been here twenty four hours. And if we just. 00:01:21 Speaker 3: Got on a plane right now and went home, I would be like that trip was amazing, That was awesome, and we haven't even scratched the surface of what. 00:01:27 Speaker 2: We're gonna be doing yet we haven't even been in the building that long. 00:01:30 Speaker 1: Yes, it has been. Well, let's just start with when we walked in the door. We walked in the door immediately and you said, I almost knocked into Joe Flacka. See, you were looking right, Joe was looking left. Neither one of you saw. 00:01:45 Speaker 3: Each other, and before we were ten steps in the building, we almost had a collision with you and Joe Flacco. But it set the tone for the celebrity sidings we'd see every couple. 00:01:54 Speaker 2: Joe needs to watch himself. You were lost. He was a lot taller than I. I mean, I knew he was a lot tall. That's a big dude, nice handsome jawline. 00:02:02 Speaker 1: His kids with him, so he almost trampled one of them, the kids. But Joe black Hole has to learn this is NFL Cover zero, right, Yes, you're locked in. He may be a super Bowl champion. But we are on the podcast walking around. Have you seen a Joe Flacco set? No, but I've seen a Cover zero set. So you're at our world, Joe exactly. Now we're sitting here and we're kind of looking out onto the to the world. You just said just to give an example of what you might see here. Like you were just saying, that was Sean Merriman. 00:02:33 Speaker 2: This I hit him with the dance. There's a Buffalo Bills. 00:02:36 Speaker 1: That's probably a Bills player out with Stevie Johnson. 00:02:39 Speaker 2: Steve got loose. Stevie got loose in the building. He's there, he got loose. Can you gotta pop off for a second, Stevie? 00:02:51 Speaker 1: Wildcats go to Cats one joining us out of nowhere. The man, the myth, the Kentucky and the Buffalo Bills legend, Stevie Johnson, my man, Stevie got loose? 00:03:04 Speaker 2: How you doing that? Hey? I love it. 00:03:07 Speaker 4: I love I saw the wings up, I saw the blue cap and I was like, nah, it's got to be family. So I love it that we got to connect right here. 00:03:14 Speaker 2: You have to understand Drew, Drew knows this, this dude. 00:03:17 Speaker 1: Is it the most famous catching modern UK football history? 00:03:21 Speaker 2: Stevie. 00:03:21 Speaker 3: Just twenty four hours ago, someone asked me what's your favorite UK game of all time? They didn't say basketball, football, he said game, and I replied, Stevie got Loose as my number one. 00:03:30 Speaker 2: I think it's the best. 00:03:32 Speaker 1: I think it's the most exciting UK football moment of my lifetime. 00:03:36 Speaker 2: And the mine is also. 00:03:38 Speaker 4: I mean that sparked everything, you know, that sparked everything for the Lexington community, I would say, because as you know, the year before we got dominated by Louisville. Yes, they dominated, and they were big favorites coming into that game. Yeah, h favorite, So we had a chip on our shoulder, you know, we had the community and commonwealth at our back, and yeah we Stevie got loose. How did you get loose? Well, actually seen it the play before. So the play before that, it was a penalty, I believe, and the guys wasn't covering me. The safety stayed on Jacob Tammy and we ran four verts and I went back to said, Dre, it's there. Just look at me. I'm telling you it's there. So we got the penalty. Nobody was worried about penalty was on uh Jarmon, No, not Jeremy Scott. 00:04:22 Speaker 2: Scott Scott. 00:04:23 Speaker 4: Yeah, and nobody was up was upset at Eastcott either because he was protecting Drake. I was upset yea, yeah, I know everybody else, but I mean like us on the team and we knew. We was like, oh it's all good and the playmakers. We knew so then I like I told you, I told Dre. We went back out there and they did the exact same coverage and it was it was money. 00:04:41 Speaker 1: That is the loudest I ever remember CommonWell Stadium being was shaken. 00:04:47 Speaker 2: I felt like it was. It was shaken. 00:04:48 Speaker 4: And the only time I felt that was my first hundred yard game against Arkansas Women Fatten and that was a great game too. 00:04:54 Speaker 1: That was a great game. Now when you scored, uh, we win the game, and then it has become like your thing. In Lexington, stevee got loose. It started from us because one of my drunk friends was in the parking lot and he goes Man. 00:05:10 Speaker 2: Jones, Stevie got loose and then we just went with it. 00:05:14 Speaker 1: Yo. 00:05:14 Speaker 4: That's that's amazing to hear that story and to be here with you all today. 00:05:19 Speaker 3: You know, special, there's one more thing you left behind. It likes and not just Stevie gotta lose before big games. I still turn on the locker room rap. It's about it's the hard power. Respect is hustling, heart, dedication is a must. If you ain't got that part, then your soul is weak. Meat for wildcats were about to get it popping. Like joking from way back. 00:05:38 Speaker 4: It's way more than touchdown sacks and field ghost y'all. We gotta study, do our work and live strong. UK will live on. But yeah we here, it's our turn. We about to take over for this year. Yeah, we got the whole town yelling big Blue. 00:05:52 Speaker 2: It's true. 00:05:52 Speaker 4: I've heard baby, oh boy UK. Let's make some noise. Let's break these boys and have our crowd jump for joy. It ain't just about putting on this white and blue. If one fight did, we all start fighting too. We like a crew better yet call us the fam. There's no eyes on this team because all the man let's go. It's grain before you. 00:06:23 Speaker 1: Get out of here. I know you gotta go. I gotta say you got the ball to catch in the l shoe game too. 00:06:28 Speaker 4: Yeah, we won't even think about that number one team overtime yea. 00:06:32 Speaker 2: And there's something interesting about that. 00:06:34 Speaker 4: So I had that same play the year before again in Death Valley, and Xenon stopped it and he said, you ain't getting it and I couldn't say nothing. I can't say nothing like respect y'all blowing us out? Ball thrown out of bounds A year after. I remember that maybe got. 00:06:51 Speaker 2: That game he knocked Sticky said hello to his friend. Shout out to twelve. That's my guy. I'll be seeing him in a couple of weeks. 00:06:58 Speaker 4: It's coming out to San Diego and I'm gonna let him hear this, man. 00:07:01 Speaker 2: Big shout out to see you. Man, It's great to see you. You're looking great. 00:07:06 Speaker 1: Stevie Johnson just randomly popping in wings up, STEEVEE, got loose. 00:07:12 Speaker 2: Bb in for light. 00:07:13 Speaker 4: Hey, shout out Ray Davis, Dion one and mad Max out there on the Buffalo Bills. 00:07:16 Speaker 2: Let's go, let's go. Well that was completely very amazing. See that's what happens on radio row. 00:07:23 Speaker 1: You can just see Stevie Johnson and he can rap like it was two thousand and seven. For those of you that are not Kentucky fans, you're gonna be like, what in the world was that? Who cares that I am. 00:07:33 Speaker 3: I'm not gonna have a bucket list after this. We're just checking stuff off doing that halftime rap with Stevie Johnson. That that's how you remember those I sing it regularly, like to this day, I still sing it. That's why that was so cool him doing it also not to be weird. I have a frame picture of him in my office, you know, just a big stev Johnson fan. 00:07:53 Speaker 2: Let me leave picture of him off. 00:07:55 Speaker 3: That game is number one on my every They played at night Saturday night. I started tailgating Friday at noon in the parking lot and went straight through tailgating. 00:08:04 Speaker 2: All the way to that game. 00:08:05 Speaker 3: We get the ending we got against Louisville for a Kentucky fan, Stevie getting loose, and it doesn't get. 00:08:10 Speaker 2: Better than that. 00:08:10 Speaker 1: I hope people who are not UK fans enjoyed that, But if you didn't, I'm sorry, I don't care because that made me so happy to see Steve. But our point was what radio row is. That's it right there. You got to hear it naturally. 00:08:24 Speaker 2: Yeah, Bill's legend. 00:08:25 Speaker 3: I'm sure a lot of NFL people know him, but we know him too fold with the Kentucky connection. You're wearing the UK hat and from a distance I saw him kind of glancing and I hit him with his touchdown celebration and he just sprinted over here. 00:08:36 Speaker 2: He knew we were legitimate. I don't think. I don't think I had to Billy to be here, but it didn't matter. He did it anymore. 00:08:41 Speaker 5: He ripped off the Buffalo hat and then he had a Kentucky State hat like a ready to ready to go. 00:08:47 Speaker 2: That was great. 00:08:47 Speaker 1: So this is an awesome, awesome environment, awesome place. There are literally everyone's there, Steven A. Smith doing his radio show right down there where we should probably pop in and say hello to him. 00:08:59 Speaker 2: I'm sure he'd want that. 00:09:00 Speaker 3: Well, I think he's waiting for us to get up there. We'll get there in a minute. Steven Aste. 00:09:04 Speaker 1: We had the other Stevie. He's a lot no offense to you, Stevin Ay. So so we're here for the next three days. We're going to be doing a super Bowl preview. 00:09:16 Speaker 2: Kind of. 00:09:17 Speaker 1: I mean, we're we we're excited about the super Bowl, but we're gonna be talking to people today just today on the show. 00:09:24 Speaker 2: We have a massive list of superstars coming on. Incredible. 00:09:28 Speaker 3: The fact that we're leading off with a two time Super Bowl winner with it, a Super Bowl MVP, a Hall of Famer. 00:09:34 Speaker 1: Gold Jacket Davis, then Mike Golick Senior, and then Sean Alexander all joining the show today. 00:09:42 Speaker 2: That's a pretty good guest. Small Tom names. 00:09:44 Speaker 3: I thought us being new kind of not kind of the rookies around here still getting our feet underneath this. I thought they would just send us like the third stream kicker from the Vikings. 00:09:53 Speaker 2: Yeah, no. 00:09:56 Speaker 1: Time players Terrell Davis, Mike Golick, and Seawan Alexander, And so people understand they come through. Now you're gonna hear because we're gonna leave this set we're on, and by this set, this table that we're sitting. 00:10:09 Speaker 2: At the Billy put together. Billy, did you put this table together? 00:10:12 Speaker 5: I got the equipment working on the table. 00:10:14 Speaker 1: And this equipment Billy has is from I think two thousand and six. Okay, so you're gonna hear this and you're gonna be like that sounds like two thousand and six. But then we're going to be moving here in just a moment to another set, which is the official NFL set, where I'm going to guess the microphones sound better and the interviews sound crisper. 00:10:36 Speaker 2: But just so you know, it's. 00:10:37 Speaker 1: Almost like a metaphorical transition in life from US as podcasters, of US as NFL hosts, and. 00:10:46 Speaker 3: The emails we've been getting they mentioned a set. One even said the chairs are comfy. I didn't know what it's gonna be branded with our names on this stage. 00:10:53 Speaker 1: I don't know that Adam Levine was gonna be sitting over there. 00:10:56 Speaker 2: That's that's Kelvin Jimstone. They got two sets, Divius. Adam Levine is moreon five. Great, did I say Adam Levine? 00:11:04 Speaker 1: Yeah, we could be here Adam Devine, right, And that's kind of like Adam Levine. 00:11:10 Speaker 2: Maybe Adam Levine's here too. Call him Kelvin jim Stone. Yeah, well, let's call him Israelian Kelvin. 00:11:15 Speaker 1: I do think when I walked up to him and started talking and I said, I love your show, is my favorite show, I'm not sure he thought knew. 00:11:21 Speaker 2: I think he thought I meant you work. 00:11:24 Speaker 1: I was talking about the Righteous Jimstones because then I said, you know, Keith, and he looked. 00:11:29 Speaker 2: At me like but he still took a nice picture with us. 00:11:33 Speaker 3: I thought for sure you were going to sing a baby Billy verse to him, and. 00:11:37 Speaker 2: I was so excited. I didn't know in that moment if you were ready. 00:11:40 Speaker 1: I will tell you if Walton Goggins walked up here, we'd be misbehaving. 00:11:44 Speaker 2: I'd be running around, I'd be run around the house with a pickle in my mouth. 00:11:49 Speaker 1: We will get us kicks out of here. What Terrell Davis and I are going to run around with a pickle in our mouth? But so we are gonna We're gonna do these interviews and then we will come back and start of talk about the latest news and all that. So get ready, Terrell. There's Shawn Alexander. He's gonna be coming back with us in just a few minutes. Terrell Davis, Mike Goick, and Shawn Alexander and then more as we are live here in San Francisco, live to us, not to you listening. 00:12:19 Speaker 2: This is the NFL Cover zero. Let's go ahead. Let's get started with t d. 00:12:44 Speaker 1: All right, our first big guest of our week, Drew. We're ready to go. And how about starting with a Hall of Famer and a Super Bowl champion, Terrell Davis. When I watched you run, I used to think football seems to hurt. I don't want to play because if I had to hit that man, I would not be able to walk after. 00:13:01 Speaker 6: It is an honor to have you sitting here with it. I appreciate it. I don't know what I did. Football does hurt? 00:13:06 Speaker 2: Does it hurt? 00:13:06 Speaker 1: Now? 00:13:08 Speaker 2: Well? 00:13:08 Speaker 6: I am feeling a little, a little bit a lot of the uh, the impact. I am paying my dues now, but you look like am I still play? I have to say no, I appreciate that, thank you very much. And did you intentionally match Billy there with the. 00:13:24 Speaker 2: My man? 00:13:25 Speaker 6: But I think he's got a nice he has a nicer zipper on his well his is reverse reversible. 00:13:32 Speaker 2: Well, it's kind of blame. Do you like the reversible thing? Terrell? You can decide, you can say no, it's all right. I mean I like the two for one brother, I like it. I like it. Shoot, I mean you think about his packing, right, his pack is a little lighter man, that's exactly for one. I like that. 00:13:49 Speaker 6: That's exactly what he thought will even you know, buying clothes anyways, he has a waste of money, man, waste of money close closes the number one food and clothes of the two biggest waste of money. Food is a waste of big time. What wait, what would you use money for? Not food? 00:14:06 Speaker 2: In clothes? What a travel? Okay? Right, but when you get there, you're not gonna eat golf. You're going naked, not eating No Terrell Davis travels naked. 00:14:17 Speaker 6: The problem with eating is you eat, so you eat right now in two hours, you're gonna be what you're gonna. 00:14:22 Speaker 2: Have to eat a year exactly. So what you do just wage four hundred dollars on some on some on a steak. 00:14:28 Speaker 6: That's an interesting theory. I mean, that's how you always have to keep feeding it. I know there is no content. It's like that is kind of how so you look up and you're like, man, I just spend six thousand dollars, I'm still hungry. But that's kind of how all. 00:14:41 Speaker 2: Forms of life have sustained themselves over this year. 00:14:43 Speaker 6: I'm just saying, man, like you really think about it, food is the biggest waste of a buddy. 00:14:48 Speaker 3: Hey, I didn't have him go with the fasting take, but you know I support it. 00:14:52 Speaker 2: Terrell. 00:14:53 Speaker 1: It's great to see you here. Uh do you what do you think of I mean, you played in these Super Bowls? When you see something like this, what do you think of this entire media radio row experience? 00:15:04 Speaker 2: I love it. I love it, man. 00:15:05 Speaker 6: I see the Super Bowl thirty two banner right there on the side. That brings back memories. I'm from San Diego in the plan my first Super Bowl in San Diego. So that was that was an experience that I just couldn't have dreamed of and we won the game. 00:15:20 Speaker 1: Which field for that first game, I mean, there has to be a moment. Are are you sitting there thinking about all the things that got you there? Or are you just locked in totally on the game. 00:15:31 Speaker 6: You try, all right, they tell you that it's a normal game, or you try to. You try to convince yourself it's a normal game. But the minute you go out on pregame, you realize quickly this is not a normal game, and so you're what you try to do is is try to look for familiar things to bring your breathing down and. 00:15:49 Speaker 2: Just trying to make yourself comfortable. 00:15:50 Speaker 6: So I was able to go out there and just like, hey man, the field is still one hundred yards, Like start looking for things that I was familiar with. You know, they only have eleven guys on defense. Nothing's different about those things. Once it starts, are you able to block all that out there? 00:16:05 Speaker 2: Yeah? 00:16:05 Speaker 6: Yeah, one starts, But it's the pregame because you see all the media credential you see, you know, the blamp you see like I mean, the colors, the different I mean, the sidelines are packed with like forty to fifty different national you know, nations and TVs. So it's it's it's and then celebrities all over the place. 00:16:22 Speaker 2: You see it. 00:16:23 Speaker 6: And so then once you come between the lines, you try to remind yourself, all right, man, we've done this for I don't know what eighteen weeks. Man, it's the same thing. Let's just let's just stay let's just stay in the moment and just look at this thing played by playing and they worry about situations as they come up. 00:16:40 Speaker 3: Well, that moment worked out for you twice, and once you were the MVP. How much now further on in life, just being a super Bowl champion, in that honor kind of take on your identity and really be who you are. Is that carry with you being the Super Bowl champion? Nobody had another another layer? Nobody cares. My kids don't care. 00:16:58 Speaker 6: So here's still a lame day exact. So here's what I realized that none of that stuff even matters. 00:17:04 Speaker 2: Man. 00:17:04 Speaker 6: When you have kids and they get older, yeah, and they don't respect you. They don't do things in the house that you asked them to do. They don't care that you have a gold jacket. 00:17:12 Speaker 2: They don't care. 00:17:12 Speaker 1: So if they don't clean up after themselves, you're not like, look, I won a Super Bowl MVP. 00:17:17 Speaker 2: I play with John Lay and I won the MVP. They don't get they don't they they don't care. 00:17:23 Speaker 6: You're still they don't care. I leave the house, man, I got people that hey, great super Bowl MVP TV. 00:17:30 Speaker 2: Can we do this? 00:17:31 Speaker 6: I walk in them doors, and it's like I have to try to establish myself as as you know, I have to build some credibility amongst them in the house, which is weird and so and so. The other thing, too, is like this time of the year, which is cool and so, like when they put a stat on TV. We're watching the Super Bowl or something, they might put up a stat that says, hey, you know, most rushing yards since Terrol Daves or they're a short chart. And that's when I get a chance to be like, see, I told you guys, you see that right there. 00:17:58 Speaker 2: I was. I will pause it. 00:18:00 Speaker 6: You know, take a picture of it, start saluting them, teaching them to salute, and then they go like, Dad, well you were no Derrick Henry. 00:18:08 Speaker 2: You know what Derrick Henry would have kicked. Yeah, Like when Saku broke my record last year. Yeah, they were giving me some trouble. 00:18:16 Speaker 1: NFL's changed since you were in the league, just in terms of our offensives offensive run right, I mean it is a lot more fast paced, a lot more throwt What do you think a player like you, if you played today, how. 00:18:27 Speaker 2: Does that go? 00:18:27 Speaker 6: It wouldn't have benefited me today, It would not. No, I wouldn't have had I wouldn't have had an opportunity really to carve my niche in today's football. And let me explain, they don't. The run game is Is that a very is It is a very expensive thing to have time wise, you know, committment, you know resources to the running game. And you don't you need to hit. You needed you need to physically go out there and hit. You need to be able to see timing and mesh points and stuff. The league only you have a limited amount of practices, a limited amount of padded practices. 00:19:02 Speaker 2: You have to assimilate things you have to. 00:19:04 Speaker 6: Do walk through when you have a run game, and that's not how we built a running game. 00:19:10 Speaker 1: I like that you though, I appreciate that about you, that you're actually like honest and going, look my style was for my era and this is a different area. I feel like you would have found a way to get yourself on the field though it contribute. Yeah, I'm a football player, Yeah you were you. 00:19:24 Speaker 6: I'm gonna find a way to But it wouldn't have been as a scatback. I might have been a I don't know, safety default be Derek Kiddery. Now let me ask you about the other TV dot com. Yeah, you always when you were playing, people say TV touchdown, Yl Davis, what about this TV? This is a sort of a disorder, an issue that you have strong feelings about. I do, man, It's uh, it's called tart of dysconnesia, and what it is. It's it's basically a chronic condition that is caused by taking certain prescription mental health medications and so normally it's like an antipsychiical antidepressant that can cause really uncontrol. 00:20:07 Speaker 2: Movements and your face. 00:20:09 Speaker 6: Your hands, your toes and your torso and so you're trying to treat one thing and you're getting this sort of you know, condition that's coming and a lot of people don't even know it. And so for me, I've experienced my own mental health and chronic conditions I know for me, medication was an option, and so I can imagine being there and having these movements and not knowing what to do. So I just want to raise awareness, use my platform or raise awareness to people who are out there who are experiencing this condition while taking certain prescription mental health medication. And if that's the case, please go to theother TV dot com or consult your healthcare health care professional. How do I pronounce the TD tardiff tardif tardiff disconesia discanesia. 00:20:57 Speaker 2: This well done? 00:20:58 Speaker 1: Yeah, Terrelle, You've been a lot of fun and I have to tell you you're the first person I've ever met to take the position of I want no food. 00:21:05 Speaker 2: I don't think we need it. 00:21:07 Speaker 6: Hey, you don't want to set out wort food. I want food. You want to pay for it today? No, no, no, that's not true. What I'm saying is I'll take it all right. For example, I'll go to Chipotle, yes, and get a thirteen dollars bowl, while you go across the street and pay two hundred dollars for a meal. 00:21:23 Speaker 2: So you want to Chapa. 00:21:24 Speaker 6: We are both gonna be full, and in two hours, we both are gonna be hungry, right, okay, and it's two hundred bucks. 00:21:31 Speaker 2: I'll spend thirteen dollars, so you're gonna spend the thirteen you damn right. That's my man spending the thirteen dollars. Torell Davis, thank you very much. All right. 00:21:57 Speaker 1: I'm a sucker for people who know radio. And when you think radio, this man is it. Mike Golick does shows as doesn't show for years and is a radio pro. 00:22:08 Speaker 7: Mike, thank you very much for joining us. Oh my pleasure. It's a is that a nice way of saying I'm old? No, Well, let me tell you and I have a history. So I've worked at ESPN Radio for eight years. First day they flew me up to Bristol. I did I do Sunday mornings? 00:22:23 Speaker 2: Right, Dan? I used to do it with my I do with Myern Metcalf used to do it, Dan or Lovsky. Oh okay. They would put us in your old Mike and Mike's okay. 00:22:31 Speaker 1: First day I get there, I sit down and look and uh, as soon as I sit there, the chair brakes, like as soon as I sit down, and it's the chair you usually would sit in. 00:22:40 Speaker 7: I thought you were gonna say there was like a half eating doughnut there or something. 00:22:43 Speaker 2: No, although I did sometimes see your leftover food. 00:22:46 Speaker 1: Yeah, but I would sit in your chair on Sunday mornings and when that chair kind of broke, they were like, Mike's not gonna like that, and I was, I. 00:22:53 Speaker 2: Go, well, do you want me to? 00:22:54 Speaker 1: I got freaked out because it was my first day at ESPN. I was like, I know what up said Mike, go what are they praying to put the fear God? 00:23:00 Speaker 2: I think they were. 00:23:01 Speaker 1: I think they were messing with me. So I've always had that. I broke Mike Golick's chair on the mic, and. 00:23:07 Speaker 7: Mic I wondered why it never really worked after you can break that chair right there on the ground. 00:23:13 Speaker 2: Uh huh. 00:23:13 Speaker 1: We were talking about this the other day. You did morning radio six to ten? 00:23:18 Speaker 2: Is that right? How did you get up like that every day? 00:23:22 Speaker 7: I swore every morning the alarm went off at four fifteen and I said a bad word, and then I would I would get to work by five, and you know, as you guys know, the day just starts. You know, You're you're looking at notes, You're you're going over highlights, you're you're getting ready for the especially when the show went on TV as well, and you had to deal with highlights as well. You just start to get caught up in it. And the great thing was was I was done it. The show was done at ten. I was done for the day at eleven o'clock. What times you have to go to bed though, and you had to go to bed early, and watching Monday night football was tough. I would get up the next morning and watch the compressed highlights of it to try and get caught up because you'd have to go to bed early. But it did give me the opportunity to be a lunch dad at my kids school and coach them and all their little league stuff, which was like in the late afternoon, and I was I was home by eleven o'clock every day. So there were some pros, but the cons is I lost out on about ten. 00:24:21 Speaker 2: Years of sleep. 00:24:22 Speaker 1: I think we get this list, Mike, of all the people that are going to be here that we're going to be interviewing, and our man Billy next there. He got the most excited when he saw Mike go. He really did. He was like, if was it me or for my son? 00:24:34 Speaker 2: Mike? No, No, for you, Ah, for you? 00:24:36 Speaker 7: It was you I was listening to in the mornings I was working at when you were a kid. 00:24:40 Speaker 2: Yeah, when I was a kid. Yeah, you're doing Mike and Mine. 00:24:43 Speaker 1: I wasn't going to do that to you. He's doing it to you. How you were like you were like seven, right? 00:24:48 Speaker 2: No? No, I was like fifteen. Sixteen is my first job. 00:24:51 Speaker 5: I was mowing rough at a golf course, and I'd listened to Mike and Mike because it was an early job, so you had to get up. 00:24:55 Speaker 2: So it's a pinch me moment to be here with you, Mike. I appreciate that, but I want to ask you how rewarding was it to be to do this with your son for him to get in the industry. I mean mean a lot to you. 00:25:05 Speaker 7: It's very Yes, Yeah, I probably would not be doing the show every day unless it was with my son. I'd probably doing be more more part time stuff calling games for Westwood One, which I've been doing for a few years. But I try not to take it for granted that when the mic goes on, it's my kid there and we're doing the show together. 00:25:24 Speaker 1: I would like him to respect me a little more and bend at the knee. 00:25:28 Speaker 7: But but we disagree more than I thought he has. Oddly enough, he has his own thoughts and he expresses them well. 00:25:38 Speaker 2: I mean you're used to that. 00:25:39 Speaker 1: I am you and Greenberg sometimes did that as well, and it's and I live by the same credo I did with Greeney. 00:25:46 Speaker 7: And actually Tony Bruno was the first a co host I had is if you disagree with something on air, you never take it off air, Okay, And that's the same thing with my son. We could disagree with things on air, but there's no reason to take it off air. 00:25:59 Speaker 2: I didn't know you worked with Tony Bruno. 00:26:00 Speaker 7: Tony Bruno was actually the first one at the ESPN radio. You should tell that guy to have an opinion now ruggles doesn't he. I was working with him for a year. I show it up one day and he was gone, and I'm like, oh my god, what do I do now? 00:26:14 Speaker 2: He was just gone. He was gone, and they didn't tell you. No. Oh, he didn't tell ESPN. Oh, he he just left. He was gone. 00:26:24 Speaker 7: And that was in October of ninety nine. It took three months of me working with potential new co host before it was Greenie. Yeah, all right, so let's talk about this football game. You got Seahawks Patriots. 00:26:38 Speaker 1: I've said that you don't see stories like Sam Darnold in football. I wonder if Sam Darnald's story says, hey, there's a lot of guys that could be good if they got with the right team out of Kyle and. 00:26:53 Speaker 2: If they got a chance. 00:26:55 Speaker 7: One of the reasons he is where he is because he was the number three pick. Overall, you're always going to get a chance somewhere you're the number. 00:27:02 Speaker 2: If he was a fifth rounder, he'd have been done. He'd have been out of the league. 00:27:06 Speaker 7: Went once he failed at a couple of spots, he'd have been he'd have had to have another job. But when you're a high pick, because that money was invested in you, you're going to get a chance somewhere. And to his credit, he is. He has overcome and he is playing extremely good ball. And on the other side of New England, there's another throwaway. I'm a Titans fan and seeing Mike Rabel's success is killing me. How bad did we mess up in Tennessee? 00:27:28 Speaker 2: Oh you messed up there? Yeah, I know. I'm wearing Titan shirt right now. It hurts me. 00:27:32 Speaker 3: Just uh, Mike Rabel is my Piloton name It's Bike Rabel. I love Mike Rabel so much. Name is Bikebel. I'm so conflicted, all right, I'm at his happiness and my my titan sadness because I mean, I'm I want him to do well, but I know we we messed up back. 00:27:48 Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, there's you know, there's I know I'm a little worried. 00:27:51 Speaker 2: About it, all right. People think i'm him. Actually he's got terrible stats on there. Yeah, a four minute rode. 00:27:58 Speaker 7: I'm amazed at the lack of patience. Obviously, not like a Pittsburgh Steelers or Baltimore with the two coaches a law in nineteen and eighteen years. But it does amaze me how quickly you give up and think the grass is going to be green or somewhere else. 00:28:13 Speaker 2: Sometimes it is right. 00:28:14 Speaker 7: Sometimes guys get a head coaching job and they're not supposed to be head coaches. 00:28:17 Speaker 2: But he clearly is a head coach with this game. 00:28:21 Speaker 1: I mean, it seems like most people just assume the Seahawks are going to win. 00:28:26 Speaker 2: You know, the Patriots. 00:28:27 Speaker 1: I think they have a very good shot, and I think Drake may it does not played well in the playoffs, but it had such a great season, I could totally see. 00:28:36 Speaker 7: I think people are too quick to dismiss their chances. I mean, he just has to hang on the ball. Too many fumbles. He had fumbles in the regular season as well. He runs the ball well. I called the Denver New England game where the second half became a muted offense because of the snow, and he basically won it with his legs. Was very impressive with his legs as far as throwing the ball. He's got obviously Stefan Diggs, Hunter Henry, but I don't worry as much about him as I praise the Seattle defense. The Seattle defense is stifling. They are they but now remember this New England offense average about twenty nine points a game during the regular season. They have the ability to score, but they need a rock fight here. They need it to be a low scoring game and their defense needs to step up as well, which is a very good defense. By the way, in New England. 00:29:30 Speaker 1: They get short changed a little bit in the postseason because New England faced some more some of the top defenses in the postseason. We're obviously air on podcast, but I do want you to talk for a second about doing live radio four hours a day. In my opinion, that's the hardest thing to do in sports to sit there because you can't like hide, no you know what I mean, You can't like throw the graphics. No, like it is. You just have to go and if there's nothing to talk about, you gotta talk anyway. 00:29:59 Speaker 7: Yeah, oh yeah, there are especially out of the football season, as you guys would know, it gets a little more difficult. June July can be a little difficult. That's when you start to do Mount Rushmore lists. 00:30:14 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:30:14 Speaker 1: Yeah, but miss Bristol. Uh No, I don't really miss Bristol. I miss ESPN and and and the setup there, but I don't really miss Bristol. But uh, to your point it it can be damning when you when you have a guest in the guest flakes on you, or when you have a guest know anything to say and they have nothing to say. It's exactly right. It could get it can, especially for four hours. You're looking there are days. 00:30:39 Speaker 7: There are many days listen, I did it for so long where you look at your watch and you're going, oh my god, I got three and a half. 00:30:45 Speaker 1: Is doing a show with one person four hours a day. Is it like a marriage. Well, I mean you have to have a connection. You have to have chemistry. And Greeny and I had it right out right out of the gate. We had really good chemistry. 00:30:58 Speaker 7: Yeah, there has to be that there, There has to be It's kind of like it's kind of like in the booth doing do a game TV or radio. You got to kind of have chemistry with the play by play guy. 00:31:09 Speaker 1: Uh. 00:31:09 Speaker 7: And to make it more conversationalike, and not just you talk, U talk, you talk, you talk. 00:31:14 Speaker 2: Same in radio. 00:31:15 Speaker 7: It can't just be the one person talking then the next person talk. 00:31:18 Speaker 1: You have to be enough to be I did my first play by play game this year for ESPN Radio. 00:31:24 Speaker 2: Dude, it's hard, isn't it. Oh yeah, I thought you all. 00:31:27 Speaker 1: I thought all you all were idiots that did it these Oh man, that's the hardest thing. Yeah, you're here on behalf of Stello. 00:31:33 Speaker 2: Tell me about that. Yeah. 00:31:34 Speaker 7: So, I was diagnosed with type two diabetes twenty years ago. And back then you basically ate your meal, prick your finger with a blood test and decide to saw what your numbers were and tried to go from there. Now it's modern technology. Stello is a glucose bio sensor that you put on your arm. You can get it over the counter, you don't need a prescription for it, and get it off Amazon, and you have an app with it and it gives you real time numbers of how you're doing. You know, how sleep affects your glucose levels, how workouts to how food does. And now in a couple of months they're coming up with a smart food logging. 00:32:13 Speaker 2: You're gonna be able to. 00:32:14 Speaker 7: Take a picture of your meal and it will give you all the info on your meal, so you know how many carbs you have, how many Sure take take a picture and. 00:32:22 Speaker 2: You'll tell you how good or bad it is. 00:32:23 Speaker 1: For it'll tell you give you that that would make me say, I know, but for I know, But it also help you eat right, that's right now. 00:32:32 Speaker 7: So again stello is for type two diabetics, pre diabetes and just those that are in the wellness center want to know, I feel want to know what their numbers are. And now you get up to the up to the date number, you look great. I feel great. 00:32:45 Speaker 2: I know. 00:32:45 Speaker 1: For football players sometimes it's hard because when you get done, you're used to all that working out. 00:32:50 Speaker 2: You can't eat the same, and I did eat. 00:32:52 Speaker 7: The same for a while, and I ballooned up to almost three twenty. 00:32:55 Speaker 2: I looked like a vanilla milkshake. 00:32:57 Speaker 7: It was horrible. And then a few years after I was done playing, I was diagnosed with Type two and I knew I had to change my ways my eating and and stello and uh. 00:33:07 Speaker 1: And now he's like, walk around with your shirt off, like you look at me. Not not yet. 00:33:12 Speaker 7: I would love to be able to walk around with no shirt on, but I can't do that just yet. 00:33:16 Speaker 2: I don't know if I'll. 00:33:17 Speaker 1: Ever be able to do that. Billy just did it around here. If you have next year Super Bowl sixty one, we'll be looking for it. Thank you very much for my time, and we appreciate you got it. So there you go, three Big Time interviews. Drew. I'm kind of surprised, like how easy it is to talk to those guys. We're off the main set now they've they've they've kicked us off for another show. 00:33:57 Speaker 2: We're back to Billy set that you're back. 00:33:58 Speaker 1: To, Billy said, I don't know what the sound differentially is, but you can you can tell. We're now back to two thousand and six. And uh, I enjoyed it. I really like Sean Axandra a lot. 00:34:10 Speaker 3: Yeah, he was great really, not that I expect anyone to be jerks, but everyone of us is like so nice. Like I didn't think anyone were gonna be rude, but they're over the top nice. Like even one of them we're done. 00:34:20 Speaker 2: They don't just run off and go to the next one. You know, they have a busy day. 00:34:22 Speaker 3: Everyone has stayed around chat a little bit. Uh, even starting with t TD in the beginning, I'll call him. I'm I had a blast talk at all of them. Wish we could have more time. 00:34:30 Speaker 2: TD and the QZ. I mean that was the best way to start it for me. TD and the what the QZ, the quarters it don't try to be I will say, it was pretty funny that we don't try. Don't try to start, don't try to start slowly? Are you serious? 00:34:45 Speaker 1: Saren Is, don't try to start Slogan's billy like TD with the QZ. 00:34:50 Speaker 5: I need to know what happened with TD, Tony Dungee and Drew Franklin. 00:34:53 Speaker 2: Well there now, okay, so there's a couple of interactions we need to go over. First of all, I had too that I'll remember forever. Let's start with Let's start with Drew and Tony Dungee. 00:35:02 Speaker 1: So Tony Dungee grabbed you buy the jacket and pulled on you and seemed to want your attention. 00:35:12 Speaker 2: Huh. 00:35:12 Speaker 1: And I watched this happen and I thought, why does Tony Dungee want to talk to Drew? 00:35:17 Speaker 2: And I was on an elevated surface, I was up on the stage. 00:35:20 Speaker 1: He pulled in his jacket like a little child asking for candy. He pulled in his jacket and was like, and then he didn't know who you were because when. 00:35:30 Speaker 2: You turned around, the look of disappointment on his face. Party that had to hurt. 00:35:35 Speaker 3: Yeah, Well, I was actually talking to Uh, who's that person right there? 00:35:39 Speaker 2: He's famous, the guy with the face face right there? Yeah, I think he's a reporter. But what's his name? He's famous? I need to stop looking at you. Go ahead. Well, I was, I was talking. 00:35:53 Speaker 3: I was already in a celebrity interaction with Will Compton, and he goes, Tony Dungee wants your attention, and I was like, Tony. 00:36:00 Speaker 2: Said that, Yeah, Tony, Tony dunt is pulling on my shirt. 00:36:04 Speaker 3: And when I turned around, Tony's face mortified, like I do not know this human. 00:36:08 Speaker 1: Yeah, it was clear he thought you were someone else. And then he was like, but I've been tugging on this stranger. She committed Tony. Tony Dungeon was was shirt committed at that point. I was like, get off me, Tony. 00:36:20 Speaker 3: What can we possibly talk about it? And then when we made eye contact, you've seen it go. 00:36:24 Speaker 2: He's tugging Tony. 00:36:25 Speaker 3: He's never He's like, I've never seen this human ever, and I have nothing to say to him. 00:36:29 Speaker 1: Tugging Tony will forever be noticed. The guy who tugged on Drew hoping to get his attention. 00:36:34 Speaker 2: You know what, you probably thought I was Jeff Saturday. I get it a lot, former player, I should know it. He did that. You know what, that's what Jeff Saturday. 00:36:43 Speaker 3: But you're not Jeff Well no, no, not Lineman big. But I was on an elevated surface. He thought you were Jeff Saturday. That was exactly who he thought. He was tugging Tony thought you were Jeff Saturday. The only thing I can come up with, because he was definitely wanting to have a conversation. 00:36:59 Speaker 2: Then the next thing that happened I was there for this as well. 00:37:01 Speaker 1: We went to the restroom as people do break here and uh, Drew Drew, I saw Derrick Henry walk to the restaurant. So the only three people at the urinals were me, Drew, and Derek Hiley. And I could see on Drew's face that he wanted to talk to Derek Kinton. Derrick Henry is like his Yeah, is he your favorite player of all time? 00:37:27 Speaker 2: Nar than him? Right? And yeah, that'd probably be it. And I knew he was in the building, so I've been since we've walked in. I've been looking everywhere. 00:37:34 Speaker 3: I did not think we would be touching elbows at the urinal would be the moment. 00:37:40 Speaker 1: Face him being like, I want to talk to Derrick Henry, but I'm not sure I can with urinal things happening. 00:37:48 Speaker 2: That's the one. 00:37:49 Speaker 3: And you didn't, do you regret it? First of all, I got to paint the scene. There were seven eight urinals, most of them open. I still don't know why he was directly next to me in hindsight, what made him walk to the one? I mean, he wanted you to talk to but there wasn't a gap urinal between us. I mean we are basically just stating, well, jar Hendry one, didn't you. 00:38:10 Speaker 2: He was hoping to have a conversation. 00:38:12 Speaker 3: I wish there had been a reaction camera on me because at first I was like, why is this guy up on me? 00:38:17 Speaker 2: And I kind of just glanced on my left and it was like, oh, crimp, just one second. Who are these two gentlemen in Bounty sweaters? 00:38:24 Speaker 5: That is I believe Almon Ros Saint Brown and Pine School. 00:38:27 Speaker 1: Yeah, why are they wearing Bounty mister Rogers sweaters? 00:38:32 Speaker 3: Because when Bounty says wear this and pay you, I'm sure they'd wear whatever. 00:38:37 Speaker 2: So that's a mind. Saint Brown and uh pin Soool, definitely Saint Brown. I believe it's Pine. How do you recognize Pine Soola? Yeah? How many offensive linemen do you recognize by face? Not a lot? 00:38:49 Speaker 5: But he's a very I mean he's he was taking I mean they took Jamar Chase and ahead of him. 00:38:53 Speaker 2: So it was like a big thing, wasn't it? And they're Bounty wing man. 00:38:56 Speaker 1: By the way, Bounty is the biggest sponsor here. The Bounty is the number one sponsor. I didn't know toilet paper had this level of sponsorship, but they do. For bounty by the way. 00:39:07 Speaker 3: I thought the NFL and Bounties were past that, but they're brought him back, cleaning up their image. 00:39:11 Speaker 2: Stop all right, So back to back to the urinal. 00:39:15 Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it was really a moment where I'm like, why is this guy up on me? This is an empty bathroom, and his like elbow is hitting my elbow, and. 00:39:22 Speaker 2: You know, I kind of just looked to my left, not down at. 00:39:26 Speaker 3: An angle, up at an angle, I'd say, oh my god, this is Derrick Henry, and just straight downstair at the wall. 00:39:32 Speaker 2: Don't move. I cannot have a conversation in that moment, you understand. I think I think this was the chance. 00:39:37 Speaker 1: It would have been weird, But I think it's sad that this is like your favorite player. 00:39:41 Speaker 2: And you did not speak to him when you had a chance. 00:39:44 Speaker 1: But granted it would have been weird, it is weird to have conversations in that come. 00:39:48 Speaker 3: This is a gigantic convention center. There's about five feet of area where I cannot speak to Derrick Henry, and that's where we met. I can't change that. You could talk to him anywhere except the urinal. I just stared at the brick wall. Wondering what life your point, that's a really good point. That's probably the only place you can't talk to him. 00:40:04 Speaker 1: But this has been U lots of celebrity interaction. Who do you think has been the most random person you've run into here? 00:40:15 Speaker 2: You know? 00:40:15 Speaker 3: I like seeing the because it's mostly athletes. I'm not used to it yet because I'm still wide out looking around. But I like seeing some of the celebrities that I didn't expect, like the Workaholics crew that's across from us. So not that I'm not enjoying the athletes, but the random celebrities that I didn't expect to run into. 00:40:29 Speaker 2: It's been neat seeing them. 00:40:30 Speaker 1: I also enjoy, and I'm not gonna mention them. I enjoy Billy the people that are walking around hoping someone will ask them to come for an interview and then and people don't. I get a little bit of I find that interesting as well. 00:40:45 Speaker 2: Like you feel bad for them. 00:40:48 Speaker 1: I mean I don't feel bad, it's just like I don't know. There are levels of media, so we're on the outside. This is like the national media, then there's local media. I feel like a lot of them should go in there because there are some people here. There are people from all over the country. There's like radio stations. I'm amazed how many people make the trip and. 00:41:07 Speaker 2: Come out here. 00:41:07 Speaker 3: Well, that sets up another story. We have to tell your board Bill over here. Oh yeah, Bill went and met the Bucks guy, well. 00:41:13 Speaker 2: One of them. 00:41:15 Speaker 5: My hometown station w DAE is here, and so I went and said, Hi, did you go ask for a job? I did not, because even better though, So I was like, yeah, let's exchange contact big fan, you know whatever. And he pulled out his own digital card. 00:41:30 Speaker 1: For people who are cover zero listeners. Only you don't know that Billy has decided to be create a digital business card for this trip because I think he's trying to get other jobs. 00:41:43 Speaker 2: And he gave you a digital business No, we both had one. He reverse who knowed you with your with your. 00:41:48 Speaker 5: Visits, had his own, and I mean he works for iHeart and he was like, yeah, I heeart's just been everybody has to have their own digital business card. I was like, that is not my Heart requires that, That's what he was saying. 00:41:57 Speaker 3: Well, they never going up to somebody since Sanna's QR code, there's so many creepy. 00:42:01 Speaker 2: Things that could be done with that. So did you all share in fun? We did? Yes, I thought you said it didn't work. It didn't work. I had to go back over there. You went back. I went back. 00:42:10 Speaker 5: You went back for a second, like dude, it didn't work, which is funny because they've been dogging me. 00:42:15 Speaker 2: You went back for a second, scand yeah, and this time it worked. It worked. This stuff, well, good for you, Billy. 00:42:20 Speaker 5: So we're gonna, you know, go meet some more people after this. I mean, I don't who knows who we're going to see. 00:42:25 Speaker 2: I'm with you. 00:42:25 Speaker 3: I'm starting to see a lot of media faces that I know, but I can't put a name. 00:42:30 Speaker 1: I'm staring at that game now, this one with the glasses in the in the I mean the see, yeah, that's that's. That's a person too. 00:42:36 Speaker 5: Oh that's Andrew from the Nean Patrick Show. 00:42:38 Speaker 2: He's he's gone on. 00:42:39 Speaker 5: And done his own and it's uh Andrew and a chick I forget her name. 00:42:42 Speaker 2: I couldn't have produced that. But Andrew what pearl and off pearlof? What does he do? 00:42:49 Speaker 5: He was on the Dan Patrick Show. He's one of the Danettes, and now he's got his own show. 00:42:53 Speaker 2: Oh, now he has his own show. Billy's dream right there, that's who he needs to go to. Yeh, go get me go, get me a QR code. 00:43:00 Speaker 1: That's his id The guy who leaves the day man and does his own show. 00:43:07 Speaker 2: That's Billy's idol. You need to go medium over there. Actually think I followed that guy twist. I see his face. I don't know why, but I think I do. Well.
