Speaker 2: This is Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

00:00:33
Speaker 3: Now here's Matt Jones.

00:00:35
Speaker 4: Well, welcome everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Friday, August twenty ninth. I'm Matt Jones. We are live and it is time for football. Tomorrow Kentucky and Toledo start at twelve forty five the UK football season begins. You can give Sewn the Clark's Puppy Shop phone line. We are in studio eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. A Vision Auto glass text machine is seven seven two four five two five four in this dish sponsored by TJ Smith Office. You call TJL make them pay. We were originally supposed to be in a cornbread Hemp hemp field, but that's gotten postponed for a few days.

00:01:11
Speaker 5: So we are in studio.

00:01:13
Speaker 4: Uh here in Lexington, and I have a great idea that's coming in the second hour. Of course it will almost certainly fail, but I've got Ryan Lemon, Drew Franklin, and Shannon the dude guys. Football starts tomorrow.

00:01:24
Speaker 6: Yeah, this time tomorrow we're in didn't deepen our pregame show for the first game of the year. Man, I'm excited about it.

00:01:29
Speaker 7: It will almost be over. We'll be making our picks about right now tomorrow. But it does feel good that it's finally here. It's fun watching the Thursday games, even though we got.

00:01:37
Speaker 5: A stamp and watched those last night.

00:01:39
Speaker 7: I'll admit I fell asleep. I was watching it, but I fell asleep while watching Nebraska Cincinnati. But I watched Rutgers. I watch East Carolina if it was on, I checking on it.

00:01:47
Speaker 4: No offense to Dame Kei Shannon. I was pulling for Cincinnati at the end. Yeah, I like watching I like watching Nebraska bomb so I was like, come on, beat them, but dank you. He got a touchdown so a lot of Kentucky fans, we're all very happy about that.

00:02:03
Speaker 5: Congrats today.

00:02:04
Speaker 6: I may got a little misty eyed. Last night I was watching again. I was husking my corn just to see him. He had a great game, just see him kind of succeed and he wanted to stay here.

00:02:16
Speaker 4: He just okay, you got stop that he did. He wanted to stay here. There was a way to do it.

00:02:21
Speaker 8: Well, no, I'm not happy with the way things that's fine.

00:02:25
Speaker 4: But then he didn't want to stay, like you know, you can't. They're both of those things are not true. He wanted to stay and he wasn't happy. If he wasn't happy, totally fine, But that means he didn't want to stay. I love dan Key, but but like he left. I'm cheering for him, although I want Nebraska to lose. But we're also not gonna say he wanted to stay, because if he wanted to stay, he would have stayed.

00:02:46
Speaker 5: He chose not to stay, which is his right. But he didn't want to stay. He would have well he did, okay, but he didn't.

00:02:54
Speaker 4: But he did.

00:02:56
Speaker 5: That's what I'm saying.

00:02:57
Speaker 4: At the end of the day, there came a time for a car to leave Shannon and he got in a right yeah.

00:03:02
Speaker 6: And he still got some messages from UK fans though, talking smack about him, like.

00:03:06
Speaker 4: Well, you're gonna get that. I mean, you're gonna get that more. I mean, people did that to you unfortunately even when he was here. Yes, so I mean you're gonna get that. But uh yeah, how about you know, who would have thought the first time you'd see Travis and Taylor in public it would be in a Cincinnati football game when.

00:03:21
Speaker 7: They pan up to the to the booth and they were there right away. I was like, oh, okay, didn't he consider that they could be here at this game? Makes sense?

00:03:27
Speaker 5: But he played there?

00:03:28
Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I'm sure TMZ was outside the stadium looking for him. I saw you know, uh, Nebraska's quarterback ro Well. He thinks he's Mahomes.

00:03:36
Speaker 5: Okay, so is that weird. That's weird.

00:03:37
Speaker 7: It's very weird. It's one of the weirdest things in sports. And he denies it. It's like, dude, you're wearing the same sun did the little thing Shannon?

00:03:43
Speaker 5: So he does.

00:03:44
Speaker 4: Yeah, Patrick Mahomes takes his fingers and like, does the hey come here on.

00:03:48
Speaker 5: A play or whatever? Yeah, he does. The same thing, same Johod he does all.

00:03:53
Speaker 4: He's got to stop acting like he's not trying, because he's clearly trying.

00:03:56
Speaker 7: But he's in a bad place today because he led a game winning drive and they showed my home was leaving the stadium before he got the ball to do it.

00:04:02
Speaker 4: So well he boy wasn't there that dude's got to stop acting like he is trying to do it.

00:04:07
Speaker 7: He's trying to do it, which is fine. They mentioned on the broadcast maybe this was public. Maybe you knew it, Ryan, but I didn't know Dane's rumin with him.

00:04:14
Speaker 5: I did see that.

00:04:15
Speaker 4: Yeah, hotel, Yeah, yeah, okay, in the hotel they're rooming together. But but Channing, he did want to leave just for the.

00:04:25
Speaker 8: I don't know why you gotta be so combat about that.

00:04:27
Speaker 6: He wanted to stay, but man, things here here didn't go, you know, the culture changing, like the way things were headed.

00:04:33
Speaker 7: But that would mean he wanted to leave, right.

00:04:35
Speaker 8: So he wanted to do have a better opportunity.

00:04:38
Speaker 3: He couldn't stay. Nobody kicked him out the door.

00:04:40
Speaker 6: Plays in the game tomorrow may get like three targets, Well he got five targets and five catches.

00:04:43
Speaker 7: In a touchdown, which, to be honest, I'm a little worried about that nebrass offense.

00:04:47
Speaker 4: Yeah, off does not look I mean it looks maybe a little better than ours, but I don't know.

00:04:52
Speaker 5: But he got a score touchdown. I was very happy for.

00:04:54
Speaker 6: I was very first game. It's like he did the first game of Kentucky in the ends, right in that end zone. Put you the poster up in our casts bar, putting his hand up after he caught the touchdown.

00:05:03
Speaker 7: I missed him. He's he like fidgets with his gloves when he gets up. He's done that forever, and as soon as the first catch he started doing it again. It felt weird see him in red, but he still looked just exactly like like Dane at Kentucky.

00:05:14
Speaker 5: So it was a good night at college football.

00:05:16
Speaker 4: Uh, Shannon and I called the South Florida over Boise stayed up, sat big fist up, Shannon.

00:05:22
Speaker 5: There we go. Look at that.

00:05:23
Speaker 8: They destroyed him.

00:05:24
Speaker 7: What that was my guarantee yesterday on the show, you guarantee they covered? Did you pick him to West all right? In South Florida? Well, Ryan, I picked Boise State.

00:05:34
Speaker 5: Hamden's Ryan's the loser in the group.

00:05:37
Speaker 4: But Shannon, you also you were gonna call the one a couple of weeks ago with Idaho State, and we talked you out of it and they almost won.

00:05:44
Speaker 5: I don't think.

00:05:44
Speaker 3: I don't know why I listened to you guys like you guys than you.

00:05:48
Speaker 5: Know what you're doing, all right, so you can in Toledo. So here's what we're gonna do.

00:05:51
Speaker 4: Normally, I think every first football game that we've had, you know, we're out in the crowd and we tried to get everybody pumped up, et cetera. But because the thing got changed, there was a miscommunication to where it was et cetera, it was it was it was our fault. So we're gonna get with them later on. But that means we're here in studio, and we were gonna do it in the restaurant. I didn't want Ryan like getting his pre energy while people are trying to eat eat, you know, like where he's like knocking tables down. We're there tomorrow. We were there the last few days. By the way, thank you all the folks who's come out. We've got it. Feels like people have really enjoyed it, gotten really good reviews. Nice crowd and those of you write me that say like, hey, I did this, I liked it. That that's good, that's helpful. We're trying to continue. But anyway, point being so, I was like, we still have to kind of get that energy. So right now Billy and Mario are efferting and we'll see if this works. To try to make it where we can do our number two of this show out on the street'd be fun.

00:06:54
Speaker 8: In downtown downtown Lexington.

00:06:56
Speaker 4: Just out on the street right stand out there, uh and and and give a show probably to no one, but you could potentially drive by and see us out on the street. Now it's not too hot. This is the perfectday. It's like ninety five degrees. Do you like the idea of going out on the street.

00:07:15
Speaker 7: I love the idea. I just sometimes just walk around downtown Lehington after the show, really enjoy it. Love the idea of doing a show there. Years ago, we did one in the pavilion, had a blast right.

00:07:24
Speaker 5: During COVID, but you know, people were a little hast to.

00:07:26
Speaker 7: Tell, but just being outdoors and being downtown doing the show was a lot of fun.

00:07:30
Speaker 4: Now, Shannon, it's almost certain this won't work, So I hope you are ready.

00:07:35
Speaker 3: I've got all the hot takes for the for the series.

00:07:37
Speaker 5: You're ready in pay.

00:07:39
Speaker 4: Something happens and we get disconnected until we can get back up in this building.

00:07:43
Speaker 5: You might have to do your shanded thing. A lot of people, you know, do what.

00:07:47
Speaker 2: You got to put on stone tuple pilots and walk out of here. That's what I'll do.

00:07:52
Speaker 4: Well, Im glad you appreciate the craft, all right? So u K Toledo lines back up to nine. So it was all the way down to seven. Now it's back up to nine. Some places you find nine and a half. So fans seem to be, you know better, seem to be back on UK. It feels like three weeks ago everybody thought we were gonna lose. Now everybody's like, this is a good bet for Kentucky to win. I don't think one thing has changed during that. Are you feeling good?

00:08:24
Speaker 5: I am.

00:08:25
Speaker 7: I bought the dip. I'm in at nine and a half for plus money. I actually saw it. It's up to ten on DraftKings this morning, so it's really starting. The Kentucky's really starting to come in. It's one of those things. It was a trendy pick podcast for picking it. I saw Barstool it's one of their picks this week. It's an easy one to pick. But if you look at what Kentucky they're picking Toledo. Yeah, not to win, to cover, but if you look at what Kentucky did to the MAC last year in Ohio, which was the champion and in the opening game was Southern miss they destroyed them before the lightning delay. And I think we all agree that this team's gonna be better than the last team no matter how this the record looks. It just I feel like they're in a good spot to open the season. They should dominate them in the trenches.

00:09:05
Speaker 4: MAC has started well though Ohio played Rutgers right to the end last night. Yeah, Buffalo played Minnesota pretty well for a little bit there.

00:09:13
Speaker 5: And the Mac as well.

00:09:14
Speaker 4: So I mean, you know, it's very not a lot of sample size, but the MAC has held itself okay so far.

00:09:20
Speaker 6: Man, I don't care if they win by one point. I just want to They just have to win this game. They cannot lose.

00:09:26
Speaker 8: They just need to win.

00:09:26
Speaker 2: I don't understand where all the Toledo hype was coming from over the summer. Do they have a top thirty raw talent. I mean, like Kentucky does no. Do they have a seven year quarterback? Like Kentucky does no. Kentucky's gonna run them.

00:09:39
Speaker 5: Well, remember Ryan declared they have a Heisman candidate quarterback.

00:09:45
Speaker 3: I might have said that too, But you know what doesn't matter. It's not true.

00:09:48
Speaker 8: That was a video game.

00:09:48
Speaker 2: We found out. We don't have to talk about that. This is real life and Kentucky's gonna beat them.

00:09:54
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I feel pretty good about it. I think it's gonna be I think it's gonna be nerve wracking for no reason.

00:10:02
Speaker 5: It'll probably be close for a while.

00:10:03
Speaker 4: It'll be a three point game at halftime, We'll all be stressing out, and then I think in the second half they'll they they'll pull away.

00:10:13
Speaker 5: But I do think.

00:10:13
Speaker 4: It'll be I think it'll be a stressful game. I mean, so I'm one of these people for big games. And while I don't consider this a big game, I consider it kind of a big game because of what all is at stake. I sit there and think often, okay, what happens with each result. So I remember when we played Oakland and basketball, I sit there and thought before the game, right, what happens if we lose? And I played out what I was gonna say, et cetera, and then it happened. So I have been thinking about what happens if we lose. If we win, we just say okay, ole miss next week can get as ramped up we go. But if we lose, you know, then you have to sit there and think about what's happened.

00:10:57
Speaker 8: What's you think about the whole season as a whole.

00:10:59
Speaker 4: I think if you lose it, I think you got to think about the whole Stoops era, which is a lot of pressure to put on one game.

00:11:06
Speaker 5: But I also don't think Drew that that's ridiculous to you.

00:11:11
Speaker 7: Oh not at all. He's gone back a little bit. I think Mitch call it a one year blip. It's a little bigger than a one year blip. He's backpedaling. But if you lose your home opener to a to a Mac team, even if it is the Mac favorite this year, yeah, that's a horrible look. And I mean, I'm thinking they've rebuilt this offensive line and we're here and it's supposed to be the big Blue wall again. They have a significant size advantage tomorrow if they don't dominate Toledo. We got big problems all the year, I think, so, I think losing there are.

00:11:38
Speaker 4: Times though, I mean, we can't lose, yeah, but there are times where teams can struggle in the first game.

00:11:45
Speaker 5: Yeah, but they've got to win.

00:11:47
Speaker 7: I mean, if you turn it over six times or something crazy, maybe it's a fluky game. But Kentucky, especially up front, should be able to push them around. And if they don't, that's going to be a big problem.

00:11:57
Speaker 8: What happened when Chip Training scores a touchdown in the.

00:11:59
Speaker 5: Game, I will that's kind of irrelevant to me.

00:12:04
Speaker 4: I mean, now if he scores three touchdowns, we can't stop him and they win by ten, yeah, then that matters. But I think if we lose, it's not gonna because of Chip Train them, right, It's gonna be because of bigger issue.

00:12:15
Speaker 8: Yeah. I think people just be upsetically. Never got to see him do his thing here last year.

00:12:20
Speaker 5: Yeah.

00:12:21
Speaker 4: Now if he's Ashton genty and he never did it last year, Shannon, then that would be frustrating.

00:12:27
Speaker 2: Yeah, he's going to have a touchdown more than likely, but we're gonna have three or four.

00:12:31
Speaker 3: So what's the matter, right.

00:12:33
Speaker 7: Well, they came here five or six years ago after our big Citrus Bowl win. His first season opener, Stoops even admitted this week he's like, I thought I had a great team and we went down seven o to Toledo, than fourteen to seven to Toledo, and at halftime it was todt and that what Toledo team wasn't even really where this team was. So it's possible and they've seen it happen before, but maybe that's helping be a wake up call on this one. Well, they went on to win that one fourteen.

00:12:56
Speaker 4: Quite a strategy this summer. Say nothing, do nothing, have fans know nothing?

00:13:03
Speaker 8: Yeah, no promotion.

00:13:04
Speaker 5: So this is it.

00:13:05
Speaker 4: I mean, this is like we're the everyone's impression is coming tomorrow, and if it's a good impression, I think it buys you, you know, a week. I don't think people will let's say we win forty to nothing. I don't think people are gonna be like, all right, we're great. The decision will be made next week. A gets a bit, but it can go in the wrong direction if things don't work. I'm still excited. I love football season. I'm excited for UK. I said this, I've said this. We like if you are not using your tickets, send them to Matt dot Jones at Kentucky Sports Radio dot com. I'll give them away. We'll have people. I'll give them away on the pregame show. I'll give them away to listeners whatever. We need to have as many people in that stadium as we can have. Yes, if you don't, if you it's Labor Day weekend, I understand if you can't go, but don't let them go unused. Like, let's let's let's pay it forward.

00:13:54
Speaker 5: I think I don't remember who. Who was it that won it? Steve? Was it Steve?

00:13:57
Speaker 4: That was I was giving the ticket. Somebody sent me a ticket for him, guy that wanted to go that had won.

00:14:01
Speaker 8: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:14:02
Speaker 7: Nobody else right call unless I ask. It's in Bonn that bridge. We'll look it up. Who needed it?

00:14:07
Speaker 5: Whoever is to rite your ticket?

00:14:09
Speaker 4: Sir? Just so you know, somebody said if I'm nine two a twenty two eighty seven, uh, text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four. It is game day eve right here at Kentucky Sports Radio. See I can see that look on Shannon's face. He's not He's not on his face y'all can't y'all can't see right, I can see a look on you.

00:14:32
Speaker 5: He's got that smirk like all right, Shannon, Shannon sees a weakness and seize it.

00:14:40
Speaker 4: Just po Shannon is like all right, he sees okay, this a little jab Yeah, I know, I I know you like I.

00:14:47
Speaker 3: Have a lot of enjoyments during the pot.

00:14:51
Speaker 5: Shannon slow down.

00:14:54
Speaker 4: So I got people predicting scores here. I'd like to know what do you think is gonna happen to UK Toledo. I'd like to get a synth where the fan base is seven seven two seven seven four five two five for. Just give me the score and there'll be something ridiculous, like what you actually think. I'd like to see where fans are and take a little seven seven two sem seven four five two five for. While you're doing that, one person rides matt Uh. My dad really wanted to stay with his my mom, but then the young hot blonde came around and he left. But he did really want to stay with her, and it made my mom feel a lot better when I said his intentions for there.

00:15:31
Speaker 2: Look at I can say the s anything about my parents that they wanted to stay together.

00:15:39
Speaker 4: You could, but this was a rite and this was a text. But Chan, it's like, I know that relate to that, But Shannon, they really want to stay.

00:15:48
Speaker 3: I mean they wanted to.

00:15:50
Speaker 2: They didn't, but they didn't they wanted to.

00:15:55
Speaker 4: Two eight twenty two eighty seven one person rights. Give me one fact as to why Toledo even has a shot. We all act like it's a given. But I haven't heard one fact that would make me care. They came in sixth in the MAC last year. Why does everyone act like Toledo is good?

00:16:14
Speaker 5: What's the answer to that?

00:16:16
Speaker 7: Well, Toledo and Alabama have the two longest streaks without a losing season. Rich Brooks was the coach the last time at Kentucky, the last time Toledo had a losing season. Just consistent, consistently good. They played two Power four teams last year, beat both of them. Okay, that's a big one. Went to start, actually beat them had it wasn't like a fluke. They handled them pretty well. Beat Pitt. I mean, their starting running back was just supposed to be your starting running back. You know, he's up to SEC caliber. He was punching in touchdowns for Ohio State. Their quarterback, although not a Heisman candidate, has said on some shows, been their long time, played a lot of football. Their biggest weakness that I've heard is going to be their defense. And then what I said in the first segment, just naturally inside Kentucky just has huge size advantage on both on offensive and defensive lines.

00:17:04
Speaker 4: All right, let's go to Uh. I can't lead with him because he'll be negative. Let's go to Tim, go ahead of Tim.

00:17:12
Speaker 9: Who Uh?

00:17:13
Speaker 7: Which one of you guys called the dang key anytime touchdowns score history?

00:17:19
Speaker 5: Drew did?

00:17:20
Speaker 10: It was me?

00:17:20
Speaker 5: I think it was Drew.

00:17:21
Speaker 11: Yeah, shut up to you, my man.

00:17:24
Speaker 7: Yeah. Plus you're welcome.

00:17:28
Speaker 9: Yeah.

00:17:30
Speaker 11: In my opinion on the score, I think it'll be a little bit close, nothing, nothing crazy.

00:17:37
Speaker 9: I say we win by.

00:17:40
Speaker 11: Thirteen thirteen points.

00:17:42
Speaker 5: That's just all right. Well, there you go.

00:17:45
Speaker 4: Drew's given free draft kings wins with his dang key anytime touchdown.

00:17:49
Speaker 5: But it paid well, it did.

00:17:51
Speaker 7: But I got greedy, and I also bet two touchdowns, so I made a little bit, but a lot of my earnings went to that.

00:17:56
Speaker 4: If I'm nine two eight twenty two eighty seven, remember it touched me seven seven four five to two, five, four, what's the what's the score going to be?

00:18:03
Speaker 5: I'm kind of trying to get a sense of where the fans are. Let's go to Jay and Lyndon. Go Jay.

00:18:08
Speaker 9: Hey, I got two quick things first. And I would not ask this if Ryan didn't bring it up. But I want him to answer this after I ask you a question. Matt, Okay, game key leaving cause a lot of pessimism among the fan base. Does Ryan want to make me feel better bad about that? After I ask you your question? Matt, you always have good betting angles first couple of weeks, Yes, do you have any? And I will say this, here's the angle for everybody. The first quarter under last night always been Eleven of the thirteen teams were under their first quarter total.

00:18:43
Speaker 4: I think that's actually a great one. So here's my thing. I usually stay away from week one heavy. I mean, we're gonna do we have to do a draft kings parley, which we're gonna do. I stay away from week one heavy. I go heavy on week two. I go heavy on the overreaction on week one because people put way too much stock. So for instance, just looking at the games last night, I will bet Rutgers against whoever they play next week against the spread because people will think they're no good because they only won by three points. Right, I'll probably bet again Cincinnati because they played that game close. But I'm not sure that team is any good, but people go, oh, they were close to Nebraska, so they must. People overreact to week one. So that's that's my biggest one, and I appreciate the call. I it's very hard in week one. The one thing that rarely happens, though, is there are rarely upsets, major upsets in Week one sometimes, but it's rare for a major one. So I'll just take a lot of moneyline favorites, turn it into a parlay and win drew because I think it's very hard for a team to in week one. Now, week two and week three, you do sometimes see upsets, but you don't see them a ton in Week one historically.

00:19:55
Speaker 7: Yeah, I probably shouldn't give advice for week one because if it's on my TV, I'm betting it.

00:19:59
Speaker 5: I don't.

00:20:00
Speaker 7: I mean there again, like last night, I don't know anything about Rutgers, but yeah, I'm live betting Rutgers while that game's going on. So uh, I'm more of a spray of the board type of guy. But in Week one I do go for a lot of underdogs to cover the spread. There's games like at fourteen to twenty type spread, a.

00:20:14
Speaker 5: Lot of games that happened last night. Is what happens in week one.

00:20:16
Speaker 4: You get a team and you go, oh no, Ohio might lose, or excuse me, Rutgers might lose and then they win. Oh no, Central Florida's down ten to three, but then they come back and win.

00:20:25
Speaker 9: That.

00:20:25
Speaker 4: That happens a lot in week one. The upsets you do sometimes get is like a top twenty five team that's overrated and they go on the road. Boise State is an example of.

00:20:36
Speaker 7: That, but they were a seven point favorite and lost bytle I just thirty.

00:20:39
Speaker 4: The week I've always said the week to make money in sports gambling for me in college football is week two. That's the week where you go okay because a perfect example, let's say we beat Toledo by forty.

00:20:51
Speaker 5: Old this game will.

00:20:52
Speaker 4: Get a lot of credit. Let's counter that, Let's say we beat Toledo by three. Then you play Old Miss. We might be a two touchdown underdog going into that game, and that we you know what, I mean, so that's the kind of stuff I talk about.

00:21:05
Speaker 8: You mean, answer each other question, Yeah, go ahead.

00:21:09
Speaker 6: I think people that got pessimistic after Dany left because you know, he's a local kid. He grew up here, his dad played here, he wanted to stay here. So I think him leaving did send shockwaves on think people are like, what is wrong If Dane Key's leaving, what is wrong?

00:21:24
Speaker 5: I think that was a big part of it.

00:21:26
Speaker 4: But I will say this, you know, I read Mark's story had an interesting thing in the Herald. He took all the players who left us last year and went somewhere else. And there's a really good argument that only like two of them are even gonna.

00:21:41
Speaker 5: Go to regularly see the field, Dane Key and then the dude.

00:21:45
Speaker 4: Who went to like barry On Brown at Lshit, but he's second string, first.

00:21:49
Speaker 8: String punt returner.

00:21:50
Speaker 4: Okay, fine, But I mean I'm talking about in regular offense.

00:21:53
Speaker 7: He was the go to guy.

00:21:54
Speaker 4: Here's the go to guy, and he's like gonna he's second string. And then I think a guy that went to USC may be playing a lot. Uh, but like he listed he went, most of these guys are playing at schools. You haven't heard of or aren't even on the depth charts early on. So the transfers out I think felt really bad. But it'll interesting. It'll be interesting to see how many of them even mattered. Dane will matter. It would be better to have Dane than to not. You know, I'd love to have Barry on. Yeah, but but you know we I think we all kind of like, well everyone's leaving. Story's point was a lot of these guys just may not have been very good, you know.

00:22:33
Speaker 7: That, and specific to last season, a lot of them needed to go, not just because performance on the field, and maybe their new schools are learning that they got a few bad apples in the locker room too, and that's why they're not going to advance at their next because it's.

00:22:45
Speaker 5: More culture went to where they were. Their own work ethic ands up. HEARDing us.

00:22:51
Speaker 4: We'll take a break. I want to talk about the guy driving around Lexton in a couch.

00:22:55
Speaker 5: Have you. We'll be right back. Ksorry TJ. Smith Personal injury at Herney Call TJ. He'll make him pay.

00:23:02
Speaker 2: No more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

00:23:06
Speaker 3: Here's Matt Jones.

00:23:07
Speaker 4: This is not what Ryan was singing. It's a great song. John Wait John Waite, I mean you get to the chorus. I mean, I'm not gonna do it here because you.

00:23:17
Speaker 8: Know might as well else we get a taste of it.

00:23:19
Speaker 4: I mean, but when you when you get the chorus here and he gets into it, and he and like that last verse and if I'm in the car, just be ready to hear all set.

00:23:27
Speaker 5: Oh belted out.

00:23:29
Speaker 3: Let it roll. Yeah, you're gonna be gone for Bourbon and beyond fast.

00:23:32
Speaker 2: I was gonna invite he's playing there, I was gonna invite you.

00:23:35
Speaker 5: I would.

00:23:36
Speaker 4: I would go just to hear that song and then leave. I would because I don't know what else he plays. Does he play anything else that matters?

00:23:44
Speaker 2: No, he's just gonna be sitting there and going, come on, man, just play this song.

00:23:47
Speaker 5: Just just let's go. We all know why we're here.

00:23:50
Speaker 3: Come on, But not just tell him there's some there's a ton of other bands.

00:23:53
Speaker 4: No, I know, I'm just saying, but like he for his set, I'm just gonna be here and just be saying, I'm ready ready to miss you.

00:23:59
Speaker 5: Turn up.

00:24:06
Speaker 4: See that's the that's the key, the way they go, the way it's so enunciate since you've been gone, and.

00:24:11
Speaker 5: Then pause, Uh oh way, like that's why the.

00:24:14
Speaker 4: Sawn works, don't you agree, Shan, I don't know how they came up, but that's why it's good. And on podcasts you're just hearing silence and me saying that's why it's good. But you know what, what do you want? I can't have to listen to it live or play it in the background and then you'll you'll do it. I'm not gonna dwell on this because it's the day before the game, but the athletic interviewed fan bases of every Power five team and they said, are you optimistic about your football team's future? Some teams, including Louisville, one hundred percent of the fans said yes. They could not find one Louisville fan that says that we did not say they were optimistic about the future. Kentucky eleven percent, last place amongst all four teams. Now that stat stops mattering tomorrow at twelve forty five. Tomorrow at twelve forty five game start, So whatever you think of that stat, it now is irrelevant. But I will note for UK football it was a huge failure of your off season that you have your fan base going in with eleven percent. That's on you all again, starting tomorrow, doesn't matter. But that's a huge mistake. When Minnesota's fan base is more excited than ours, that's a problem. When Vandy's is more excited than ours, that's a problem. Eleven percent, Louisville's is one hundred percent, Tennessee's is ninety four percent. Cincinnati that played last night that has Scott's Tots as their coach is forty five percent. Our fan base is eleven that's on y'all. You guys did that, and so now hopefully we change it back. But I've never seen I've done this a long time, been on radio fifteen years. Never been a time that talking football has been worse to get the fans motivate. I mean, the games tomorrow and we're talking about it and even predicting scores, which in basketball, my phone breaks so many people predict scores. I mean, we've got a bunch, but not like we usually would have. It's just a failure of motivation. It is for a motivated program. It's a failure of motivation. Again, starting tomorrow, it doesn't matter. That's why I'm dropping this and going on. But when I saw that number, I literal least when I saw the headline of the story, thought, I wonder where Kentucky is. Bet it's towards the bottom. I didn't think it would be last, Shannon in the entire Big Four. Last.

00:26:38
Speaker 2: Yeah, I wonder exactly who they're finding to interview and to talk to for these.

00:26:42
Speaker 5: But I mean, do you in our conversations.

00:26:45
Speaker 3: It doesn't feel like our fan base is that pessimistic. I mean they are, but eight nine.

00:26:49
Speaker 5: I think eighty nine. You see it, Shannon, when we open, when we tough football, the phones closed.

00:26:55
Speaker 4: Now I'm going to talk about couch guy, and the phones will get fulled. Like that's just I can look at the text machine. A football segment is the deadest thing I can talk about.

00:27:07
Speaker 5: And it wasn't always like that. Three years ago.

00:27:10
Speaker 4: Football talk would move the needle more than basketball talk.

00:27:16
Speaker 3: Just we can do our own pole here with callers and disaster.

00:27:20
Speaker 5: You.

00:27:20
Speaker 4: All I do have to do is look at this line, and I can sit here and see it and I talk about football, and it's like, you know, Jerry, And by the way, Jerry, you didn't have to I was going to go to you right here, but you know, so I'll drop it because like starting tomorrow, it doesn't matter. But I didn't. I was not surprised to see that stat. Now let's move to the guy who's driving around Lexington in a couch. Okay, this video went viral yesterday. A guy set up what would you call it, ryan a living room on a So I don't know anything about cars, but he's driving around and instead of a body of a car, it's a couch with he and his wak right yep.

00:28:01
Speaker 6: It's like he took the base of like a golf cart or something and modified it and put a big couch on it.

00:28:06
Speaker 8: Made it like he was driving around town.

00:28:07
Speaker 12: Like you said, it's a three wheeler, but it also has a steering wheel. Huh like the the oh yeah, the end the table is a steering wheel. Yeah, and he's driving it around. I saw two videos. You posted one and then I saw one on Instagram. He was next to Trancey at one of them, and he was like right down here. He was right there at uh, you know, next to Triangle Park and another one and he calls it couch car and he and his wife are just sitting on a couch driving through downtown.

00:28:37
Speaker 5: It's awesome.

00:28:38
Speaker 7: They have a rug under their feet, behind their heads, there's lamps and plants on like a little table they I mean it is their whole living room on what looks like a three wheeler.

00:28:47
Speaker 5: He may have lamps.

00:28:48
Speaker 7: There's a picture of like a police officer sitting on it with them. So Instagram is up to forty five thousand followers for couch car for couch car.

00:28:57
Speaker 8: Wow.

00:28:57
Speaker 5: Now a couple of things. How's that street legal?

00:29:00
Speaker 4: I'm not asking people to arrest them, Shannon, but that can't be legal?

00:29:05
Speaker 3: Does have a license plate on the back of it if you look closely.

00:29:07
Speaker 4: So you think they went to the to the office and we have a couch.

00:29:12
Speaker 7: They go, what model is you can call? You can drive a three wheeler? The Netflix SEC documentary shows Dion driving around in one, so maybe they just took that they have seat belts on. Is there a law that your seat can't be a couch?

00:29:26
Speaker 5: I mean if you.

00:29:26
Speaker 7: Got a seat belt on it and a license plate and it's registered, I guess you.

00:29:30
Speaker 4: Can have a three wheeler. So that doesn't have a covered top. I don't know that people making the rules found that, like.

00:29:36
Speaker 5: Thought about a couch. I agree, as a car.

00:29:40
Speaker 6: You know, maybe they're supposed to have a little inspection. Maybe they just didn't do the inspection that day and they go back home and he puts the couch on the car.

00:29:46
Speaker 5: You can't get on the interstate.

00:29:47
Speaker 7: Probably not interstate, but in the video I'm watching it again, it has break lights, tail lights.

00:29:52
Speaker 5: Are there different laws? Again, I don't know the answer to this.

00:29:54
Speaker 4: Maybe I should Are there different laws for driving on on city streets and on the interstate?

00:30:00
Speaker 6: Oh yeah, yeah, And like this guy used to just be doing his neighborhood streets over there in Kenwick neighborhood just kind of drive around on it. I think, like Drew said, he modified it, got break lights, got license plates.

00:30:09
Speaker 5: And he said, oh yeah, do you know that's true?

00:30:12
Speaker 8: Yeah?

00:30:12
Speaker 5: Yeah.

00:30:12
Speaker 6: You can't drive a tractor like on an interstate and things like that. There are different rules you can't do in the interstate.

00:30:18
Speaker 5: You know that.

00:30:18
Speaker 4: Yeah, Okay, I mean there should be. Yeah, well I didn't know. But like people can ride motorcycles on the interstate.

00:30:25
Speaker 8: Right, I can ride these three wheelers on the interstate.

00:30:27
Speaker 5: You can ride we three wheelers on the interstate.

00:30:29
Speaker 8: Like these what do they what do they call? I can't think what the Yeah, the polarist.

00:30:33
Speaker 5: You can't drive like a TV on these these are built like vehicles.

00:30:37
Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, just don't take couch car down to State Street after a big winner or they'll burn it.

00:30:44
Speaker 4: So this is like gone crazy viral in two days. So would we say couch car like? He's now famous, right, famous? So how can he make money from it? That's the question.

00:30:55
Speaker 6: Well, he should be able to drive around Kroger Field tomorrow with his Venmo on the back of his big sign.

00:31:01
Speaker 5: She give rides, Yeah, he'll take it. Give a ride. Yes, your couch pulls up. Dude, there you go. You could ride on the couch people. Perfect, that's right, you do that.

00:31:18
Speaker 4: Ye oh that's genius. Come like sit at ks Bar parking lot. Drive people to Commonwealth Stadium on a couch.

00:31:25
Speaker 7: They'll put your feet on his table though, be respectful of his living room.

00:31:27
Speaker 5: Yeah, take shoes off your shoes. Does the lamp work?

00:31:30
Speaker 7: It looks like.

00:31:33
Speaker 5: Yeah, the lamp is lit up.

00:31:35
Speaker 3: Yeah, now that's kind of he's at a leg lamp.

00:31:38
Speaker 5: So do you know this person?

00:31:39
Speaker 9: No?

00:31:39
Speaker 8: I don't know him.

00:31:40
Speaker 7: One of my good friends just said he lives on a street that he's been seeing. It kind of come together for fifteen years. Yeah around wow, neighborhood for years. Yeah, he just told me the street, so you knew about that? Oh yeah, So what made it just go off?

00:31:56
Speaker 5: Like just random?

00:31:58
Speaker 8: One thing on Drew said.

00:31:58
Speaker 6: I think he finally modified it where he could ride on the city streets, not just his neighborhood streets.

00:32:03
Speaker 5: Wow.

00:32:03
Speaker 4: Well, couch car is now becoming one of the more famous things in Kentucky, at least in Lexington.

00:32:10
Speaker 5: Everybody's talking about couch car.

00:32:12
Speaker 8: Maybe we should do our show on it one day.

00:32:13
Speaker 5: I bet he would do it.

00:32:14
Speaker 4: Yeah, although you know how it is when we try to get drive around, it doesn't work.

00:32:17
Speaker 7: Adams, stay away from State Street if we beat Texas.

00:32:19
Speaker 5: That's what Shandon just said. Adam, go ahead, Adam.

00:32:26
Speaker 11: I feel like a lot of the hype from Toledo is coming from Yes, they won at Mississippi State last year. Do you all know how bad Missippi.

00:32:34
Speaker 9: State was off?

00:32:35
Speaker 11: And let me give you a hint. They were worse than Kentucky.

00:32:38
Speaker 5: They were awful. And by the way, their fans are one of the like two or three that were just above us. In the optimistic right now, But yes they were awful last.

00:32:46
Speaker 11: Year Missippi State's two wins first game against Eastern Kentucky and they lost every other game until they beat U mass So.

00:32:57
Speaker 5: Who was the right right?

00:33:01
Speaker 11: So you know, looking at I know we lost Key and Brown, but just looking at SATs, Maclin led us in two games, receiving, Willie Rodriguez letting let us in the game, receiving hardly, Gilmore let us in the game, receiving all players that are still on the team, and you know Kem Brown as good as they were, we only had two one hundred yard receiving games and only two one hundred yard rushing games for Wilcox. So I think the stable of the skill players is much better with the depth perspect Again.

00:33:37
Speaker 5: I appreciate the call.

00:33:38
Speaker 4: Do you think it's possible that the receivers could get more production overall than they did last year?

00:33:44
Speaker 7: Yes, we don't have to say his name, but he's at LSU. We're forcing it him way too much. Kind of wanted him gone the year before. To be honest, that room needed a reset. I love Dane. I think it just needed a reset across the board. I know Macklin's back, Gilmore's backs and freshmen are back. But that I think that wide receiver room was severe mismanaged last year and they just needed a just a fresh start. Yes, Macklin probably should have gotten a lot more targets. We saw when they started going to him at the end of the year. He looked like one of the better guys. Now he'll have that opportunity from the beginning. And then when you go to the running backs, that's where's the biggest for me. Will Cox was the leading rusher and he is barely going to see the field as it stands right now. He's down to running back four when he was the guy fans wanted on the field and he had close to six hundred yards last year. That's your running backs have to be better.

00:34:27
Speaker 4: Yeah, if your guys starting last year is now four string, that's probably a good thing for all you. And know there are some wild myths floating around about UK Credit Union, these myth makers.

00:34:38
Speaker 5: Let's go out and bust a myth. One. Do you have to be part of UK to join? No myth too.

00:34:43
Speaker 4: Joining is an ordeal stop and truth is a lot of Kentuckians are missing out on great rates and real benefits. Seven local branches are online and under three minutes. Where you're blue and white or not, you can still do UK Federal Credit Union. We're not just for some where, for everyone. Membership eligabilla required, really insured by n c UA. We'll take a break, We'll be right back.

00:35:04
Speaker 5: This is KSR Quarterback.

00:35:07
Speaker 4: Tell you sports radio E if I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five for That's why I like the text machine. Sometimes you get good information. Sometimes you get people who say, this is back to back text shit. Text one, Ryan is incorrect about driving on the interstate. Why does he say things with such confidence when they're clearly wrong?

00:35:26
Speaker 5: That's text one?

00:35:27
Speaker 4: Yeah, text two, Ryan is right about the interstate. You ought to listen to him more on some things. He has good information.

00:35:35
Speaker 3: Okay, Well, somebody is wrong here.

00:35:36
Speaker 10: So they're back to back to back. Both people were outraiged. One was outraised at Ryan for being so wrong. One's outraised at me for not believing Ryan and their contract. They're like contrad I don't know which one's correct. There's usually a sign on.

00:35:49
Speaker 4: The interstate, though I remember the it's like a little white sign that will say something like no, you know, grasshoppers and no like thing, no pads and all that.

00:36:00
Speaker 5: I would assume. I would assume that would include couch cars.

00:36:03
Speaker 7: But if they don't specify it, can you just take it on out there?

00:36:07
Speaker 5: Yeah?

00:36:07
Speaker 4: I mean we probably have more open rules than some places about it. Okay, so we need to do our We need to pick. We've got to pick a moneyline, parlay for DraftKings. Okay, everything's gotta be so get get on your little app there, look at the games tomorrow.

00:36:26
Speaker 5: What are you? Why are you staring at me?

00:36:28
Speaker 8: I left my phone at home. I can't get on my app.

00:36:32
Speaker 5: What do you mean you left your phone?

00:36:33
Speaker 8: I was so excited to come in here today. I got to left.

00:36:36
Speaker 4: The hell he just had a look at me, Shanon like like I.

00:36:40
Speaker 8: Can't get on my phone, but he didn't.

00:36:42
Speaker 5: He just was staring at me, mouth agape.

00:36:44
Speaker 3: When how do you leave with your phone?

00:36:48
Speaker 4: Okay, so you can't. You're basically saying you can't protect this game. Okay, all right, well we'll probably we'll deal with you during the break. Okay, we'll try to. Uh, well, actually, everybody's gonna pick one. I'll tell you what I will. I will go first. Okay, since since uh I'm gonna pick hmm, I'm gonna pick Virginia to win at home against Coastal Caroline. I feel like I'm getting better odds because people think Coastal Caroline is good Virginia at home. Actually, you know, I don't want that one who wants to root for Virginia.

00:37:29
Speaker 8: Football wisconsinplazing night.

00:37:30
Speaker 5: I think, yeah, well, we gotta do. We have to do Saturday it is. We'll figure it out a minute. Let's go to Logan. Go ahead, Logan, who wants to pick Virginia.

00:37:38
Speaker 13: Hey, guys, I'm so tired about hearing about so tired of hearing about Toledo and how they're supposed to be. We're gonna run the damn ball. McGowan and Dowdell are gonna have two hundred combined rushing yards. We're gonna kick their ass. Bring it on this next week.

00:37:55
Speaker 4: Go CAATs, appreciate it. That is that where our advantage is is just kind of running it down their throat.

00:38:00
Speaker 7: Run run, run. Hey, look we're gonna pass. No, just kidding, We're gonna run again. That's gonna be the offense tomorrow.

00:38:06
Speaker 4: And that's so we won't have an idea of probably a lot of these receivers, et cetera.

00:38:11
Speaker 5: We won't really.

00:38:12
Speaker 7: I mean they'll they'll take a few shots just to get them going.

00:38:15
Speaker 1: Uh.

00:38:15
Speaker 7: But I think this is a game and probably a season where Stoops is gonna get back to his old ways and then, you know, we were blessed with Benny and c Rod there for a while. But hopefully this tandem McGowan and dal Dell and the rest of them can can be something similar. Yeah, I've got mine, by the way, I'm ready got mine too. I'm gonna go Northern Illinois beats holy.

00:38:33
Speaker 8: Cross, Illinois had the big win last year.

00:38:36
Speaker 5: Yes, and Holy crosses they're holy. Well that's not a negative, that's a positive.

00:38:44
Speaker 8: Yeah, they're very holy.

00:38:45
Speaker 5: All right, So I'm gonna take Northern and who you got.

00:38:47
Speaker 3: Give me L s U plus four Clemson. I like L s U on the road.

00:38:53
Speaker 5: You're giving a plus four on our money line?

00:38:56
Speaker 3: Can I not do that?

00:38:57
Speaker 5: Or yeah? No, sorry? Sorry? You pick an LSU to win or the plus four plus four plus four l S Okay, you're gonna take the L s U plus.

00:39:04
Speaker 3: Four okay, minus one ten odds?

00:39:07
Speaker 4: Okay, well then I guess you're not doing a money line. That's fine though, all right, you go ahead, what you got.

00:39:11
Speaker 7: I will do the two lane money line. They are playing Northwestern in the Louisiana Heat, and I will got a couple former Cats on there, including the coach we all know. So I will ride with Tulane two lane to win. Yeah, yes, so they're four point favorite. But I'll just do the money line.

00:39:25
Speaker 5: Okay, all right, right figure this out.

00:39:28
Speaker 8: I can't play. I don't have a phone.

00:39:31
Speaker 3: What about Texas Ohio State?

00:39:33
Speaker 11: You'd like?

00:39:33
Speaker 5: What about Texas Ohio State?

00:39:35
Speaker 6: There's no way Ohio State loses that first game in their own.

00:39:38
Speaker 8: Stadium, no way.

00:39:39
Speaker 5: All right, see you take Ohio stateles State. So you got Ohio State. Yeah, you got two.

00:39:44
Speaker 4: Lane, a couple of Northern Illinois, and he's got l s U. So that will be our with the winner. That's that's that's a winning ticket right there. The one that's gonna lose. This is at noon when Texas meets Ohio State.

00:39:57
Speaker 7: Night when the other two or day other three, or day agains.

00:39:58
Speaker 5: Other three your day? All right?

00:39:59

00:41:07
Speaker 7: Yeah, and then you got Catus and Rodriguez sharing tight end duties in the running back rooms. A bit of a committee too.

00:41:12
Speaker 4: Yeah, who knows? I think that's uh. I think your guess is as good as mine. I'm switching, by the way, because Northern Illinoise odds are not good enough. I want to keep it close, like y'all, so we get a good payout. I'll take Tulsa over Abilene Christian. They're only a five point favorite. That way, we can actually get a payout when we do this.

00:41:28
Speaker 7: Abilene lost its coordinator and it's star quarter.

00:41:30
Speaker 4: Exactly's what I'm saying. I've been scouting him during the off season. Scored a lot last year. Now they're hilltoppers. But did you know now Tulsa tubby.
