Hello, everybody, Welcome on into a brand new nice Round seventy five episode
of the Non Tendo Podcast. I am Woody Waterson and this is my co
host, Bob Wolf. I hate I hate that I do it. You
know, it's been seventy five weeks and we never found any kind of consistent
well like, yeah, this is the Non Tendo Podcast and your non welcome
to be and you're not welcome to be here. You're non welcome to be
here. Hi, everybody welcome. You saw your video today, that's that's
a direct reference to your video today, yesterday? Yesterday? What was was?
I deleted yesterday from existence? It didn't count for me. That's fine,
that was too great yesterday. I want to talk about my yesterday.
Oh okay at some point, wait, what was what was the reference to
my uh? Your you did like like a sponsorship and it was like it
was like a news thing. Oh and you literally said I'm happy to be
here. You literally said that in the video. Did you like that?
Did you? Yeah? It was good. It was my second time watching
it because you sent it to me because that's how proud you were of that
part. Yeah, it worked out really well. Yeah, I did just
to catch up people that didn't see. I did a sponsor spot for Pokemon
in my last vlog video on YouTube, and I did two of me.
It was very Bob inspired, but I actually used a teleprompter for it,
which is the first time I did that, which is why it worked so
seamlessly because it was the same script on the teleprompter for both characters, so
I knew where the other one was going to talk exactly, and it made
it so easy. I'm actually excited to try and do that again. Where's
my teleprompter? You told me that? And then I was like, wait,
I ordered a teleprompter on Kickstarter, where is it? And then it
turns out you're using the one that I pre ordered and still don't have name
one. I just bought it off Amazon or something. But it's really cool
for anyone that cares about this stuff. I've I've always wanted to use a
teleprompter, but I was worried it would feel stiff. For that my eyes
weren't looking right in the camera lens. But I got this really cool thing.
What's it called again, like the rabbit or something, the bottle?
What is it? It's like pot parrot, parrot parrot, right right,
rabbit, bonny parrot. You can eat them all. So you put this
teleprompter on your camera lens, and then you slot your phone in underneath it,
so your phone and the teleprompter is on your camera lens and it's a
one way mirror where it reflects your phone screen. And then you put your
script on your phone, so it shows the whole script in front of the
camera lens, and you look directly into the camera lens while you're reading the
script because it's in front of it, but you don't see it the other
way. It records it and you don't see the scripts. It's crazy,
it's so cool. It's so cool. I've pre ordered it off Kickstarter.
I think it's a newer version. And when you said that, I realized
I never responded to any of the kickstartering messages, so that's why I never
got it. And I just now went to go to Kickstarter and I accidentally
went to kick dot com. Oh it's one I don't know, sop that.
Please hope I get mine. I'd like to check it out soon.
You should go ahead and make a kick account while you're there. Oh,
you don't think I have one? What are we talking about today? Oh,
we're talking about so many things like my awesome day yesterday, can't wait.
But on top of that, we almost we almost titled and themed this
episode Mario again because we want to actually go like do our reviews, Like
I've didn't make a YouTube video I haven't seen you really break it down and
review it. We want to. We want to review our experience with Mario
Wonder, but I didn't want to for a third time in a row,
put Mario Wonder in the title and thumbnail. So we're also going to be
Lee talking about this big mega interview thread that that inverse I guess is the
name of the place did with Doug Bowser talking about the future of Nintendo Switch
but also Nintendo the company. And there's a lot of good stuff in here
to go through. Well you never heard of inverse. Nope, inverse they
do good articles like like uh, like this one that they have here talking
about a new Sega Sega inspired emulator that's coming out where they directly reference me.
They say, they say tech they're a very reputable news organization. How
can we not know? In versus, where the hell were they a year
ago when you were trying to get a check mark. That's a good point.
That's a good point. I didn't know it was the same place.
Yeah, that interview will get into it more. But they interviewed Doug Bowser,
and he let loose a lot more than Nintendo normally does. But I
mean, yeah, that's not saying too much. Yeah, I mean he
was also tight lipped on a lot of things, of course, but we'll
they called him tight lipped. They called him the tight lip Bowser. That's
what they call tight, tight lipped Doug, Dougie boy. Yep, hmmm.
Ah. There's also some PlayStation five controversy that's making this whole slim PlayStation
not slim situation even worse. And then also Nintendo was apparently privating videos on
YouTube of Oh, let's look about that. We were supposed to talk about
that last week, and then and then we got to car had so much
fun last week. Since I was kind of old news, we'll save it
to the very end, and then if we don't get to it, we'll
just talk about it in the bar. I have more things to say about
that then, and then hopefully we get to it, Okay, well get
it. I hope we get to all of them. Baboo, son Yankee,
car hit a duckumss it ted what are we eating? What are you
eating? We're eating up good because we're sponsored by skill Share. Baby,
yeah baby, how you doing? We could see her skill share brand new
skill share deal to offer you, guys never before seen, once in a
lifetime offer the first five hundred people to use our link this time not only
get thirty three days, but also forty percent off their first year of skill
share, which, holy Toledo, They're just given skill share away. It's
like one of those like ads they've gone in, say these prices so long,
they're gonna have to be committed. Well, let's tell let's tell them
why they should even think it can get better than thirty days. But off,
I mean that is pretty good. That's thirty days and almost have price.
Bob, Yeah, you made no skill share for that. Classes and
photography, film and video editing, and illustration, which, to be fair,
is the only courses that I personally am interested in. But there is
more, no different. You're dumb, You're stupid. You know what I
did before this? While I was eating, I walked me finally watched I
finally watched Matsusama's classes on Japanese grammar. Oh did you now if you learn
it's a lot of basic stuff. It's a lot of basic stuff. But
honestly, it's good to have a refresher every once in a while, so
you know about all of those courses. But you know, the skill shat
also has hundreds of career focused classes too. Uh, to go back to
video editing, but to help me with my career, which is my point
of reference here because I do YouTube. We always talk about Jordie's classes.
Jordie vander Pump. It's not his name, but that's what I think of
because of the no it's like vander Poult or Pelta or something van de de
Putt. It's very close Vanda put He does courses on all of Adobe sweet
style stuff. So if you want to learn more about photoshop or premiere or
after effects. Me personally, I go for some premiere, but I'm pretty
skilled there. I think it's after effects that I need him for because I
am useless there and I have learned, so I've pretty much learned the basics
of how to use that software through Jordy through skill Share. Being your own
boss could come with hurdles to navigate, where skill share has extensive class library.
You can learn freelance tips, start a new side project to attract the
right clients, or even start a business. And if you're not ready to
launch your own YouTube channel, that's fine because skill share believes no goal is
too small. Maybe you just want to learn some productivity tips to power more
me time. Maybe the goal is to start building a personal brand style.
Whatever your career goes are, skill share has classes to help you along the
way. I love skills Share. Thank you, I actually do. It's
actually such a great resource, So you want to try it the Nintendo listeners
get Honestly, I've worked with skills share a lot, and this is the
best deal I've seen them offer. The first five hundred people get thirty days
free and forty percent off your first skill share year membership. So click the
link and if you're lucky, we might put the right link in the description.
Yeah, we put the wrong one before, so we go down there
and click it, make sure it's the right one. So the first five
hundred people and then the link goes Vanda put could put could put that knot?
I didn't really track it. He one bye I am so happy to
be. We were having an intense conversation while you guys were watching that pre
or all of a sponsorship. We were yelling at each other because we have
plans this weekend and we just realized that both of us were not on the
same page for the clown. We'll figure that out later. We got we
got a lot going on. Yeah, there's a lot. There's a lot
happening. Thanks for joining us, everybody. I want to quickly touch on
the fact and I I hate that I call awareness to this every time and
people hate when I do. But we haven't been in person in a hot
minute. This podcast is not going all remote, I swear to God.
We just keep having things fall through randomly last second or being really busy.
On the Thursday, we lost access to the studio because he went to twitch
Con last weekend, so we couldn't get together. He went to where you
were when we were young fest. Oh yeah, but it was it was
in the same place it was in Vegas. I get confused. And then
this weekend we've got a wedding to go to together, so I couldn't be
doing like all this traveling last weekend was Mario other people are getting married,
not us yet. Well, we're going to see the others, see,
I mean were the while we're there. But anyway, it's not going all
remote. I look forward to finally making them in person again. Can I
quickly talk about my weekend or is that like two off topics? Should I
save it for the bonus or the end? You can tell you this is
you could do whatever you want. Okay, I don't Actually I didn't mean
to say the I just meant last night I do it real quickly. Can
you pull up the picture I put it in I discorch chat. So last
night I made my aw In ring debut. Just zoom out a little bit.
It's a little close. I mean, I don't want to mess with
it. They're okay, I'll mess with it just for you. Yeah,
you go HBK Junior over here. I as you can see, I fully
packed out the stadium. Ah. I just want to quickly talk about it
because it was so cool. But last night I went to aw You guys
know I'm a big wrestling fan. Will Is gonna love this story, so
I'll send it to him. This is the stories for Will. I always
go to the shows. Kim and I go when they come into town and
to PA and I have a a at this point, a really good friend
that works there, and every time I go, he's more than happy to
come yank me out of my seat and pull me behind the curtain to come
meet everybody. This time, I was like, let me just watch the
show. I just want to watch the show. I was hoping that Edge
would come out at some point. Turns out he wasn't there. But I
watched the show, had a great time, and then at the end he
was like, you have to you have to come down and meet everybody again.
And I was like, okay. So he took me down. He
put me in the ring. He was trying to get me to take a
bump where you like jump off your feet and land on your back. Oh
no, no, no, no, not that kind of whoa hey,
now you're gonna tell everybody you do that in public. Bump is where you
hit the mat. You take a bump, you hit the mat and it
knocks the wind out of you, and like you have to like build up
a resistance to it. I'm like, no, I'm not. I'm not
falling for this hazing. So we just jumped around the ring a little bit.
He took us behind and I got to tell you it was crazy for
any fans. I'm going to keep this short, but I had a long
conversation with Kip, Sabium and Penelope. They're so hecking nice. I met
Santana and or Tease. I met Tony Kahan for a brief second. The
if you don't know who Tony Khan is, he's essentially the Vince McMahon of
a W and he probably hates that comparison. I'm sorry. I met John
Morrison, who I've been a huge fan of ever since I was a kid,
and that was crazy. Uh we will We all walked out together with
John Morrison and my friend and John looked at me because I live here,
and he's like, hey, how do I get an uber here? And
I was like, I'm pretty sure you just used the app like anyway,
and he was like, oh okay, And then we walked off and I
said, I said to my friend, he asked me how to get an
uber And my friend goes, yeah, he's not the smartest guy. Did
he think you were the guy that gets the ubers? Maybe? Is that
no? He's like, I mean, I maybe, who are you go,
get go, get me an uber. He was so nice though,
because we walked out the exit and I guess fans wait there to see if
anyone comes out, and they saw him and all started yelling his name,
and so he looked over it at me and Kim specifically and went, I'll
see you later, and then he walked over to the fans and I was
like, oh, that's so cool, like uh but yeah, anyway,
that was all. But it was just a great night and man, I
really love a w oh and Rick Flair was there, which I actually knew.
Apparently only two people in the whole company knew that he was going to
be them, and my friend was like, hey, guess what. I
guess what? I just found out. So I knew it was going to
happen, but that was crazy seeing him and Sting in the ring. Sting,
Sting, you're gonna make the joke fan, I'm a big fan of
Sting. Mm hmm, you want to finish the joke? No, what
joke we talked. We talked about that's nice coffee. Why don't I have
a coffee? I don't know, but it's listen to police all the time,
like base work, that Sting. All right, sorry's indulging me.
Chat. Uh, let's black. When Sting beat up that kid in that
commercial there was like a video game commerciale we beat the ship out of a
kid out of a child, the restless thing. Yeah, oh, I'm
gonna have to look that Uping's a legend. I love it breaks into a
house and throws a kid like through the wall and stuff. It's just with
a beats of My friend that works there. His name is Charlie. He
is actually really good friends with Sting, like him, Sting and Daby like
always hanging out. And he was in Sting's locker room for the hour leading
up to Sting coming out, and he kept messaging me like, I can
bring you in here if you want to meet Sting, Like he said it
multiple times, and I was like, I don't know what I would say,
so I'm I'm good, Just let me watch the show. I was
so nervous about that. I would have done it if you brought me back
there. But I was like, I'm I don't know what I would say.
Yeah, there's nothing, there's not You've got nothing to talk about with
the Sting. Well that's like he kept trying to get me to meet wrestlers,
and every time I'm like, dude, I don't know what to say,
and I don't want to be the guy that's like, hey, I'm
a big fan. But so every wrestler I was meeting, I was like,
hey, hawaiya, Hey, how are you. I didn't I didn't
want to say great match. And then we met Kip and Enelope, and
I didn't know what to say, and like we were standing there so long.
I just pointed at Penelope and I was like, I watch your twitch
stream. I was like, I thought that would be a nice little in,
and then she started talking about the SIMS, which she plays, and
Kim loves the SIMS, so her and Kim suddenly started talking about the SIMS.
So I looked at Kip and I was like, do you stream?
And he's like, yeah, I stream games sometimes. I like Modern Warfare
and Fortnite and all of that, and I was like, we start talking
about that, and he's like yeah, but really I like Spider Man and
Alan Wake, but I can't play those on stream because I like to play
them on my couch and get engrossed. And I'm like, oh my god,
I'm one hundred percent there and we had this like hat doing the same
thing about video games. Yeah. I was like, man, you have
no idea how much I'm relating. And he thought it was so cool that
I play video games for a living. He was like, man, you
have the coolest job. I'm like, you're on TV. Yeah, wrestling
every what are you talking about? Uh? Fallse Spark in the chat said
it's a Sprite commercial where a sting beats up the kid. Okay, I'm
gonna have to look that. It also biscuses in the chat. Also,
people don't think we're live. We're live. We're in the chat high chat.
Okay. Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. It was so fun
overwhelming. I love wrestling. I am gushing. But let's get on topic.
I want to know what you think about Mario. That's all right,
okay, so let's move on. No, it's great. We actually finally
got a chance to play it. But it's a little weird for us to
talk about now because we played it the night we finished recording the last podcast.
It feels like it feels like it's been a week since we've talked about
Mario, but we actually it's been a week since we played the game.
But this time we actually played it, so we're actually able to talk about
Yeah, not talking about ten minutes at target or everybody else's reviews. This
is actually our take on it. And I know we we already talked a
little bit about it. I know, Yeah, I have some more to
say, though. A week on the internet is as a lifetime, So
bed with us while we rehashed this retro game with you guys. But I
really want to know above things because I haven't heard you like fully break it
down. So the first stream that I did with it, I tried to
beat it as fast as possible. I said, I was just going to
speed run it, and that took four and a half hours for me.
The game is eight and a half hours on how long to beat, so
it shouldn't take that. It shouldn't be that quick, but I purposely tried
to make it as quick as possible. Eight and a half is like a
rough average of people that finished the game. Okay, how long did it
take you? I'm like six maybe six hours, that's it, six six
seven. Like at first I was trying to do everything like the first like
three words, I did every level, which was like three hours, and
then I was like let's just finish this bad boy. And I think it
took me another like three hours to like rush through it. It took biscuits,
I think six and change. And he was he was Russia the whole
time from the calle. It up on my streams, but yeah, I
don't I think it was probably about six hours seven at most. So the
game is what fifteen if you try to do a complete if you try to
do everything, I'm currently trying to do everything now. So I plus I
plowed through the game, and then I was dancing between either starting a whole
new file or just going back and getting the stuff that I needed. Uh
And I decided to just go back because I was like, what am I
missing? Story I don't need there's like one cut see in the beginning.
Uh. So I just went back and got all the seeds that I missed,
and I missed so much, especially in the beginning of the game because
my original strat, which was wrong, was to try to avoid the wonderflowers.
Oh yeah, that's a first strat. Yeah, why did you have
that in your head? Because I wanted to beat it as fast as possible
and I know that the first one or two from the target play through that
we did the first one or two makes the level an auto scroller, so
you can't beat the level as fast. Yeah, but sometimes you'd beat it
way faster, like sometimes. Sure. The way I thought about it was
if I get the Wonderflower, it's gonna be it's gonna take longer. But
what I realized later is that you just want to get as many seeds as
possible, and when you get the Wonderflower, you get two seeds. So
yeah, that was a major mistake on my part. So when I went
back to get all of the Wonderflower seeds in the first world, and I'll
be doing it with some of the other stuff too, there was so much
cool shit that I just blew right through. It was a completely different game.
Just being able to take my time to have Mario transform into some weird
bullshit was awesome. It was It was sick, So it's when you're taking
your time with it, it's a lot to I had a lot of fun
speed running it, but I'm also having a lot of fun going back and
finding all the little cute secrets because there is a lot. Yeah, there
actually is a lot of secrets. So my experience was different but similar I
was trying to do everything and get every seed. I was streaming it,
and the first stream was fine, but near the end, I was getting
kind of bored and I was like, I need a break from this.
The second time, I was like, I'm just going to try and rush
through to the end, Like I finished World three, Let's just get to
the end of this game as quick as we can and just knock it out
so I don't have to play it again. And that was horrible. I
was having a horrible time just trying to rush through it. I kept looking
at the time I'd been streaming for three more hours. I'm like, man,
this is still going. And I didn't know. I thought it was
the game. I thought like I was getting really bummed out because I wasn't
enjoying the game. But I think it was just the fact that I was
streaming and I was working and I wasn't really enjoying it, and I was
just trying to rush through it, and I thought I was done with the
game. But then I streamed it a third time to finally finish the last
hour, and I was just like, it's only an hour. We'll just
play the game till it ends. Have a good time. I had a
much better time playing the game. I enjoyed every level, and I realized
it was just the stress of streaming. I think that was kind of ruining
the experience for me. And then this goes back to my wrestling story.
But my friend Charlie, who was I was hanging out with at the show,
he actually came over my house the night before to just hang out and
chill. And he's a gamer, but he he's like more of a retro
gamer, and he wanted to check out the new Mario Wonder. And apparently
you can't make a new save file. I don't know what I was doing
wrong, Like every loaded up my profile into my game and I went new
save, but it would make you create a new user for that. Yeah,
That's what I'm worried about because I'm gonna have to do that. I'm
gonna have to create a new safe. It was so weird. It was
like create a new safe. So I was like no, I was just
I'll load the game on one of my other profiles because that's usually how you
play a second game. But that was making me sign up for a Nintendo
subscription. It was like, you can't access this media unless you. I
don't know. I don't know what was happening. Like it was in the
heat of the moment, and I was just trying to get in the freaking
game. So I was like, you know what, fine, we'll just
load up my game and I would just go back to the start and we'll
just play through my levels that I've already played through. And it was me,
him and Kim, and it was my first time doing multiplayer, and
you know what, I'm shocked by this because I thought I would hate the
multiplayer so much it would make it so much worse. It actually made it
so much better. We're playing through, Kim and my friend Charlie are like
laughing and like having such a great time, and it's making me realize that
I'm not appreciating some of these moments, and I'm like, oh, that
is actually pretty cool, and yeah, I like this. And then there's
this one moment that really changed my mindset of the whole thing where there's a
pipe that when you stand on it, it starts to go down, and
the little flower guy is like, it can't stand the weight of us.
And it's such a random little pipe and it looks like you're just supposed to
jump off of it really quickly, but they were taking forever and I didn't
realize that I was standing on the pipe for a long time and you have
to wait quite a while for it to go off screen, and I realized
I wasn't dying, And then all of a sudden, it changed screens and
we were in a bonus area that I had no idea and the flower and
you're falling and the flower's going I told you, and there was like this
whole area down there that it was like a secret. I was like,
oh my god, this is so cool. And we found so many more
because there were so many of us. Yeah, we found so many more
secrets in those early levels that I just didn't even I thought I'd done everything,
I'd got the Wonderflower, I'd finished the level, and now we're finding
all these secrets together, and I was like, man, this is like
actually fun to explore more of So I have come around on the game quite
a lot, and I want to keep playing it with Kim and see what
else we can find. There's a lot to discover For a two D game,
there's a lot you feel like you're sucked into the world and there's like
something hiding in every little corner, which is a all the other two D
Marrio games we've seen created. They seem very every flat and boring. Every
single level has a wonderflower, which is wild to me because Donkey actually said
this in his review, but I was already thinking it, and I agree,
do they lounderflower? Because I did hear him say that, and I
was like, do they? I'm pretty sure like most of them do.
I mean, there are some levels of a challenge levels that you go in
to do a badge or something, but if it's a level level, it'll
have two wonderflowers you can find sometimes three, and the second one is always
a wonder you mean seeds. You mean seeds, seeds, two seeds.
I know, it's weird, just make them stars. It is a wonder
seeds you get, but it's a wonder flower that activates. Yeah, there's
one wonderful flower in every level, is what yah. Dunkey was saying.
Yeah, yeah, that's what I That's what I meant, And that's crazy,
Like, yeah, they could have just done a lot of the levels
have wonderful but like every single level and every time it's a different thing completely.
It's completely yeah and blacky. Sometimes it turns it into a different type
of game. Sometimes it's like, uh, there's one where it's a top
down all of a sudden, there might be more than one that's like that.
There's a couple that's a top down. There's a couple where you randomly
become a blob of goo. There's one where you become a goomba. There's
one where you yeah and it turns to a stealth mission. I didn't even
know about that until Donkey's video. I actually didn't Yeah, I know about
that either until I saw it in his video. And that's the thing.
You can play the whole game, and who knows what else we've missed.
The colors are crazy. I'm out saying its beautiful. It's it is beautiful.
It's still I'm still not like it's not my favorite genre, you know,
and I'm not like the biggest fan of this. But this game is
exactly what I wanted it to be and what I was asking it to be
when I was like, I just hope they do different stuff. I the
other those new Soup games recently, every level was the same thing. You
could look at any level and it just be like it could be any of
the world's like it's all the same. I wanted every level to be different.
I wanted every level to have a new surprise. I wanted to be
constant changes throughout the world and different things to do, and they really delivered
on that. The badges make it so you can interact with the levels in
such different ways, which I was saying, I really wanted that, and
they did that. It's exactly what I was hoping. It's exactly what Nintendo
needed to do with Mario. I think it's the best Mario ever. Like
two D two D two D. I think it's the best two D Mario
ever. I can acknowledge it's better than Super Mario. Brothers three taught me
to let go of that nostalgia, but I honestly think that it is.
I think it's the best Mario we've seen. Uh. Yeah, it's hard
for me to put it up against the retro stuff because it's so different.
That's I know, they hold such a place in my heart. Yeah,
but yeah, I mean I do that with Zelda all the time. I
just I'm just like, yeah, I know, the new stuff's better.
You don't need to go back and play the old stuff. So I need
to put myself in that perspective with the Mario games, I need to kind
of go back and play like Mario World and because those are in my mind,
the best two D Mario games. But this is definitely up there with
them. It definitely goes tote to dellt with them, for sure. I'm
looking with those. I'm looking up now how well it's sold. Apparently I
saw this morning it was like the fastest selling Mario game in Europe or something.
Yeah. I wanted to see if it was fastest selling Mario game or
fastest selling two D Mario game. Yeah. Well, Nintendo Europe tweeted.
You can see what they said in their tweet. Okay, I think those
earlier games to go back to that they they're a different experience. I think
for tight controls and fun games to speed run and pixel perfect platforming and all
of that, I think they those are still champion. I mean, it's
gonna be hard to beat. I mean, this is so wacky now and
just so all over the place, but it makes it so much more fun
and different and exciting to play that I think it just takes a life of
its own tell me about the multiplayer, Like, it's completely different now than
it used to be in the previous games, where like, yeah, so
you can hit the other players that you're playing with that they can cuck your
jump, so if you like do a jump, they could hit you in
the head and you can fall into a p and the once. Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, That's why I thought I would hate it, because I
remember anytime I tried playing the older New Soup games in multiplayer, it was
terrible. Like I think you could pick each other up as well, right
did you say that games? Yeah, you'd be like running and then all
of a sudden you'd accidentally pick someone up or they'd accidentally pick you. The
whole thing was a mess. I hated it. I hate it. I
still hate and I do hate when like and then this is no offense to
I mean, Kim's the main person I play multiplayer with, but when I'm
trying to play a game and she's kind of like falling behind and then either
she or eyes going off screen, I feel bad for her having to be
zipped to me. I hate being zipped to somebody like I wish that it
became a split screen. I know that might be horrible for some people.
But I kind of wish if he fell behind, it just becomes split screen
shway. Yeah, and that would be better. I would like that more.
Yeah, it'd be way better. But this fixed a lot of those
issues. You don't have collision. You just phase right through each other.
You can't interact with each other or pick each other up. You're just playing
the levels together. You're sharing coins, you're sharing items, and it's just
fun to explore together. You still have the falling behind thing, but it
didn't feel nearly as much as of a hindrance. I was having to play
a little slower for my friends, mostly because I'd already played it and I
wanted them to experience it. I didn't want to like blash through it so
they couldn't have a good time. But yeah, I had. I had
literally no issues whether I mean, they were just exploring the world and I
was kind of just there with them and telling them what to do. But
it was, I don't know. I had my wife and my friend and
they were both just in awe of this game, and I was just kind
of picking off the vibe of them really enjoying it. Kim famously loves Yoshi's
Island, and so she's been really excited to have a chance to play this
game, and she was having a great time. Did she play Yoshi?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I am I'm pretty Did you try to ride
her every day? Baby? The kid the game you could ride? I
actually don't think she did play Yoshi. I think we did. I think
we did Peach. I think she did Tod. I think we did Teach
Total and I did I did Daisy. I wanted to try Daisy Sweet and
it was the same as Luigi. There was no difference. Yeah, but
we did Daisy Mario and she was told so yeah, it was funny every
time you hit a block to get the elephant and we all become elephants and
all three of them are going wowcho chaos. So uh, it was nintended
Europe, they tweeted that it is the fastest selling Super Mario game ever in
Europe. That's crazy Super Mario period, which, yeah, it must be
the three DS and everything too. I mean it's gotta be because every everybody's
got switches. Now, yeah, nobody had a switch. It was the
f I don't say nobody, but it was the first year. It was
much less people by like half. Yeah, everyone has a more than half.
There was less than like ten million. I think out in the wild
by the time Super Mario honestly came out, and now there's one hundred and
thirty million. And also like it's you think about it, like you would
think a three D Mario like Mariotosty would sell better. It's the bigger,
more triple A one. But you got to really put yourself in a general
consumer vibe. The two D Mario is so easy for kids, like kid
friendly. Adults have nostalgia. It's it's not it's everything. It's everything.
I mean like it's like parents can buy it for their kids. Parents are
buying it for themselves because of nostalgia. I mean parents, like, we
love it as much as kids, but it's so much more transferable to everybody.
I don't think this will sell as much as Odyssey. I think it's
the fastest selling because nobody had a switch back then, and you think you
came out it would do way. Yes, absolutely, I think a three
D Mario would blow two D out of the water. I just think I
think it's literally the install base that is the reason why everybody's picking this one.
Up. Also the fact that it's two D Mario that everybody's familiar with
and they completely changed it, so that does help for sure. But yeah,
it was if it was three D, people would want to buy it
more. Not to say that it's not gonna do good. It's gonna do
good. It's and it's getting glowing reviews. You Right. I played through
the first run of it without the online multiplayer on, and then when I
went to go play it again, I hit the you can turn like the
like the online on, and and all of a sudden you get these like
dark soul style like ghost characters of other players in your world, and they're
like live playing the game in front of you. They can't really do anything
except when you die, you turn into a ghost all of a sudden,
and you can touch them to get a revive, which is like so overpowered.
Yeah, yeah, it made it way easier. It makes it into
like a little baby game. Yeah, but that makes it for some fun
interactions though, because everybody's trying to help each other out. No, it
does make it more baby game because you get that free revive essentially. But
I gotta be honest, the game at no point was like crazy hard,
Like, yeah, you might die because you don't realize you can't stand on
a certain thing. But once you kind of figured out, oh I can't
do this, Okay, the next time it doesn't happen again. Like,
it's not like it's hard to avoid a lot of those deaths. So getting
that free revive is kind of just like not having to reset on a death.
You don't have to go all the way back to the start to avoid
the thing that killed you because you didn't expect it. If you do it
a certain way, you can use the ghost ability to go through parts of
the level. You have five seconds to touch somebody. Yeah they're ahead of
you. You can just ghost and you can go really quickly and just get
ahead. And also, I'm pretty sure this happened once one of the other
players dropped a standy and I just made it to their standy and that gave
me a revive. Yeah, you can touch the standy in that way.
So if they dropped a standy anywhere ahead of you, you can get a
revive as well. Yeah, yeah, they It breaks the game a little
bit, but it does lead to some fun interactions. Like you were streaming
it's fun. Someone was it looked like someone in your chat was in your
game. Yeah, so I was. So the way it works you might
have said this already. The way it works is the ghosts just kind of
like randomly populate players in your game, So like you'll you'll log in,
you'd go online, your start a level, and then if there's any players
somewhere in the world that happened to be at the same place as you,
it'll just throw them in your game. I don't even know how that works.
It just really seamless and cool. So it's always random people and you
can't pick to play with anybody. And I realized this one character had been
following me around for a while, going to every level with me and then
waiting for me or like trying to keep up with me. And I was
like, man, this person's like following me around. What if they know
me? Hey, crouch right now if you're watching my stream, And there
was like a slight delay and they started crach. I was like, I'm
being stream sniped and Mario brothers, Yeah, so that was that was a
cool moment. Yeah, that's cool. I should have tweeted that moment or
tiktokd it or something that was such a cool moment, and I completely that's
cool. Back to talking about how hard the game is, it is.
It's pretty easy. It gets harder towards the end, but it's you know,
it's not something that it would be difficult for some ready to go through.
It was harder than I expected. It was hard to the point where
I did have to try, not very hard, but I didn't have to,
like Kirby's Star, ally turn my brain off and just go through the
motions like I did, legitimately have to try not to die. It wasn't
It wasn't hard not to but if I had, if I wasn't trying,
I'd be dying a lot more so in previous In previous Mario games, there's
like some endgame stuff that can get pretty brutal, and I heard that there
is some really hard stuff in this game. I personally haven't gotten to it
yet. I think it's like way later in the game after you've beaten it,
and like there's like special stages and stuff that you that you can get
to that I'm excited to check out. But it's probably only like a handful
of stages that are any difficult. But if you want to make the game
hard. Just try to play it really fast. That's another reason why I
decided I wanted to do that. When I first played it was because I
wanted the game to have a little bit of difficulty. So when you have
to play it as fast as possible, it makes it a little harder for
you. I looked up. I was actually curious. I've been looking this
up while you've been talking. The sales of the last Mario, which I
believe was Mario Brothers You and combined, across the WU and the Switch,
it's sold twenty two million copies. I think most of that is on the
switch too. Oh yes, it looks like on the WIU it sold.
Uh. I think it was like a like five million or something. I
think, yeah, that's a lot for you. It was. It was
one of the best selling games on we U. It was five point eight
million. But now with the Deluxe version it sold another fifteen almost seventeen million,
so twenty two million total. So we can expect one to pass that,
I would say pretty comfortably. Maybe, Yeah, I mean we're pretty
late, right, you think it will pass that? It will pass that,
right, I mean that's absolutely that'll be crazy numbers though, because I
mean, like, we're getting up there into what was Breath of the Wild
thirty million, Breath of the Wild thirty million total? Yeah, maybe maybe
that's maybe that's yeah, thirty million, thirty million. Oh, so like
we're getting up there into Breath of the Wild category these these as much as
that's that's a lot, let's me think about it. The Kingdom though,
the Kingdom woe. Let me look, as much as I dragged these new
soup games through the mud, they sell so well even though they were rins
and repeating as of June thirty so we're pretty behind on this stat but this
is the most recent one. Tis of the Kingdom had sold nineteen million,
just shy of nineteen million, holy shit. So eventually Tears of the Kingdom
will pass Breath of the Wild, if not already getting somewhat close to it.
I think I think Mario will have a fine time beating Mario. You,
I think it'll I think the Wonder will have a fine time beating the
Thes. Yeah, no, I agree. Nintendo's in such a good spot
right now. Their console is one of the best selling of all time,
about to be the best selling of all time, and all mostly all of
their first party bigger games are selling numbers that other companies could only dream of.
My god, how could they for mess that up? Well, let's
talk about the future. I'm sure they will. I'm sure they will mess
it up. So Yeah. We have an interview with Doug Bowser from Inverse
magazine where they go on to there's a lot of really good questions in this
interview. One of them is what do you what are you doing to help
Nintendo employees unionize? Oh? I thought, was like such a good question,
and he answered it very well. He's like, we're trying to He's
like, we're giving them everything that they need. If they want to unionize,
they can unionize, But we're trying to give them everything up front so
that hopefully they don't want to unionize. We're trying to treat them right so
that that's not necessary. But if they want to do that, they can
do that. That's the short answer of what he said. That's why was
that question asked? Is that something that's been coming up lately? I don't
know, Honestly, I don't know. Random question. You don't really hear
a lot about the ins and outs of Nintendo as a company. I don't
really hear much about like you hear across the whole games industry. You hear
about game companies treating their workers very poorly and about people staying on their rough
working conditions. You never really hear anything about Nintendo, whether it being good
or bad. You never hear anything. Yeah, I mean, I feel
like for a lot of Japanese developers and publishers and companies. Unless I'm wrong,
I mean you could probably pull one for me. I don't think you
really hear about any of them going through stuff like this or even talking about
it. And I think it might be and again I could just be wrong.
Just the culture in Japan of they work themselves to death over there.
In every job, they work long hours. They're not supposed to complain about
it. The whole culture is about like work, work, work for as
much as you can, don't complain to a point where it's like depressing for
a lot of people. And I don't want to get to that conversation,
but you know, yeah, well it gets tough over there with people how
much they have to work. It's definitely that I don't hear it much with
the Japanese companies. I do hear about crunch a lot with Japanese companies,
and we don't hear about it that much with Nintendo. But Nintendo has US
offices, so you would expect to hear something. I mean, we do
complain a lot about work here in America, so yeah, yeah, I
mean you and I saw do when we barely work. Here's an interesting question
that was asked Maria. Wander is the first two D platform this series in
over a decade, receiving widespread acclaim. The return to roots approach has also
worked with Metroid Dread. Is this something that Nintendo would consider doing with their
franchises such as Zelder? I want to Reaswer I was gonna ask, I
was gonna ask you about this? Yeah, well I was gonna. I'll
read his answer because he goes off on a different thing a little bit.
But I find it interesting they specified Zelder because I feel like Zelder is often
pulled back to its roots. We often get the big three D new adventure,
and then in between we're tied over with a with a two D counterpart.
I mean, link between worlds isn't that old? I mean, maybe
maybe we're getting close to what five six years on it's pretty old. That
it's pretty old. We only have one top down Zelder game on the Switch
and it's a remake. Yeah, we're just which is relatively new. So
like, I don't think we're that far away from Zelda being reimagined or having
a a an old school version of it, Like I don't. Of all
the franchises, I don't think that was the one to highlight because I think
that could just happen. I wouldn't be surprised if in the next few years,
as we wait for the new reinvention of whatever Zelda becomes after Taste of
the Kingdom, that we do get a two D top down But that's me.
But that's exciting because that normally only happens on like the three ds.
Uh. Yeah, I mean that is true. That's true. I mean
I guess, yeah, that's why, because if you're going to do it
again, you got to make it a big thing because it's going to be
on a home console now, so you got to do like what you did
with Wonder But for Zelda, that's what I said. I guess for me,
I just kind of expect that I would be I would be surprised if
they don't do that with Zelder, but here was his answer. I think
what's most important for the development teams have the opportunity to really understand what they
want to build and the type of games they want to create, whether it's
a reinvention of a classic game or going a whole new direction. We give
our dev teams a lot of leeway to decide where they're going with future game
development. And I absolutely adore that. It's not really an answer, but
it's it's nice to hear a big company like Nintendo say that they give their
teams just the ability to go whatever direction they want to go in, because
I think when you have companies like maybe Xbox that hire a lot of these
teams and then kind of want them to be doing certain things, or maybe
a better comparison is like Activision or whoever's doing call it division, it's Activision.
So Microsoft, I don't think tells them like you have to do this,
because I think that was a bad comparison. I think, yeah,
because red Fall. Red Fall, that company was like, we want to
make a different game than we normally do. An Xbox is like, okay,
go ahead, Yeah, that's true. That's true. That was a
bad that was a bad example. A better example is Activision where they buy
out all these companies, a lot of indie companies. They buy out these
indie companies that have done a really cool game or a couple of cool games.
They get them on board. Maybe they get to release a game,
it doesn't sell that well, and they go, we're just going to move
you over to cooler duty. How about you just make some Call of Duty
skins for us? And now they're forced to make call of Duty and they
don't get to make these cool experiences that they became known for and why they
were bought out in the first place. So it's nice to hear Nintendo or
still giving their team's the ability to make whatever they want. And that's how
we end up with something like Mario Wonder because no offense to Nintendo. But
if they were to spearhead at another Mario game, we probably just would have
got new Mario Brothers switch and they would have been more of the same old
born. There is another question here talking about how Mario Wonder didn't have a
deadline, so they got to spend as long as they wanted on it.
And another thing I love about Nintendo. I was gonna bring that up when
we were talking about the work culture inside of Nintendo. That's why they don't
have crunch at least most of the time, because they they're not opposed to
delaying something if they don't think it's gonna work, or if they want more
time to work on it. Cause you know why too, what they've realized
about delaying something, It just builds the hype. Yeah, it builds the
hype and it ends up a better product. It'll sell way better they I
mean, it's nice, I guess for them to know that more than likely,
even if the game is bad, like Mario Brothers, you, it's
still gonna sell twenty million. So like, it doesn't matter, like it
can come out kind of average, it can come out fantastic. Just don't
come out bad. That's the one thing they're trying to avoid as that.
That's the Meomodo quote. Yeah, bad game, a delayed game is eventually
good, but a bad game is bad forever. So yeah, I know
it's such a cringey thing to repeat because people meme on it all the time,
but I really do feel like it's their whole motto and it's what works
for them, and as long as it doesn't come out bad. It's gonna
sell twenty million, so just take your time. It's a it's a great
spot for them to be in. But yeah, it also builds hype because
I really hope the new Metroid Prime is gonna be a banger at least like
an eight out of ten or up, like just something good. But no
matter what it is, it's gonna come out with more hype than most other
video games get because it's had this insane build up of secrecy and delays and
just everything, and all they've really done is show a title for it six
years ago, and it's the most hyped up game because of how delayed it
is. Now, if only they can apply the same mentality to Pokemon.
Oh my god, dude, it's so crazy. It's so crazy that it's
the same console. Yes, and I know we've had this conversation before,
but it's crazy to me that Nintendo can't step in and tell them to do
something, change it or delay it or something. But it all goes down
to Pokemon Company being this giant machine that needs to release video game cards or
sorry, trading cards and animes and plushies, and they're on a schedule to
launch the new thing every year, and the games just they can't be late.
They can't be delayed. Nintendo, I mean Pokemon Company is in a
position where they cannot delay their games because it delays everything. They're screwed.
They need to plan way more in advance. They need to be like,
this stuff will come out, you know, a few years from now,
that's when all the other shit will come out. They they should, but
you have to you have to think about it in the sense that if they
delay the game, they have to delay the anime and the trading cards and
everything. And you're talking about millions and billions of dollars. I mean,
back in the day, the game would come out and then the anime would
be way behind. You know, do that, just do that? Things
Today things are like this man, and the game might be a dud or
even average, but it will still sell stupid amounts. And it's it's the
money they make from the trading cards and everything that really that keep it afloat.
Like they don't. It doesn't the games don't matter. The games don't
matter, and the games are The games matter because it's where they get the
ideas from. And it's if the games start being bad. People are going
to associate Pokemon with bad games, and they're gonna think it's a bad franchise
eventually, Like they can't ride the high off of the original one p.
Fifty one anymore. Really, because we went to Universal Studios and saw DJ
peak to breaking that house down. Its pretty good. That has nothing to
do with Scarlet and Violet and people were still there in droves. He couldn't
save Detective Pikachu. That is true, That is very true. That one's
a rough one. There's one, ye. Can I read the question about
the next switch? The one everybody's watching this whole podcast? Were? Yeah?
Yeah? In Verse asked, there have been reports that Nintendo showed off
a successor to the Switch behind closed doors during Games Come. As we have
discussed, the Switch has had a long lifespan and a huge install base.
How when, how when you consider the idea of a successor to the Switch,
do you think about helping those people who are on the console transfer to
the next platform while reassuring them that the content and investment in the Switch will
somehow transfer to its successor. This is something we've heard about before. It's
crazy that they were just straight up like, hey, we heard your showing
the new console at games Come. Yeah, that's that's a great question,
and they are essentially asking will there be backwards compatibility or is the accounts in
some way going to link and transfer over to give plays some reason to keep
playing on these consoles, So he asked him. So the inverse guy asked
Doug Bowser a question he knows that he can't answer, and then hit him
with something Nintendo has talked about before. So I give him something to bounce
off of, you know, and it worked. Doug Bowser said, well,
first, I can't comment or I won't comment, so there is stuff
I could say, but I won't on the rumors that are out there.
But one thing we've done with the switch to help with that communication and transition
is the formation of the Nintendo Account. In the past, every device we
transitioned to had a whole new account system, creating the Nintendo account. I
hate that they're calling it the Nintendo account because they're all they've all been Nintendo
acos. You get what he's saying, though, Yeah, creating a Nintendo
account will allow us to communicate with our players if and when we make a
transition to a new platform. To help ease that process or transition. Our
goal is to minimize the dip you typically see in the year and in the
last year of one cycle and the beginning of another. I can't speak to
the possible features of a new platform, but the Nintendo account is a strong
basis for having that communication as we make the transition. That's another very interesting
thing because we're seeing this now with also Xbox and Sony, where this new
generation it's not a hard cutoff anymore. It's they're trying to trickle it out.
Instead of having this like huge dip in the last year of a console
cycle and a slow rise in the next console generation, Nintendo's thinking about how
they could make it bleed together more. Yeah, I think other companies have
turned that too. Exciting prospers and statement for everyone that's wanted backwards compatibility,
but also just things to continue and transfer over to the new switch. That
literally it makes it seem like they don't want people. I saw it in
chat today, someone said, I want to grab Mario Brothers or whatever and
a switch, but I'm worried that I'll do that and then the new thing
will be announced immediately. They're trying to minimize that from happening. So if
you grab the new game and the new switch gets revealed around the corner,
it's that makes it seem like, don't worry, you can play that game
on the new thing, or if you have an Nintendo account, that you'll
find a way to play that on the new thing, or everything's going to
work together in some way. So I mean, it's definitely I mean,
all the conversations we've had about it, I know this isn't really even talking
about backwards compatibility, but just the idea of Anintendo account that's merging over to
the new thing and everything's going to transfer. I mean, this just to
me sounds like word wordage that les and so well into everything from switch is
going to move and be playable on the new switch. Transferring your stuff over
from the last gen to the new gen for a Nintendo has been historically a
nightmare, and it's gotten a very little bit better, marginally better, but
still pretty terrible. Even just transferring your stuff between switches is a pretty miserable
experience. And that's the newest generation we could do is switch to switch,
and it's still miserable. You can't even play your games on a different switch.
It's like a nightmare to do that. So I think that they're gonna
make a lot of leaps in this next generation to make the transition a lot
better. But I think it's still going to be some weird Nintendo bullshit that
we're going to have to deal with. Whether there's definitely gonna be some forward
compatibility issues, like if you're going to need the new switch to play some
newer games, that's for sure. Oh, I mean I hope that's the
case. I really don't want like an Xbox one and Series X situation.
I want that to be games on the new switch that can only be played
on the new switch utilizing the hardware. Well, the Xbox I think did
it good. I think I like the way Xbox did it because it was
at least for first party Xbox games. Uh, you buy whatever version you
want, and you just you just get this this the new version. If
you put it in a new system, you just get that version of the
game. I think that's awesome. I like the idea. I don't like
the idea of newer experiences being what's what I'm looking for, just just worse
because of the Yeah, because of the weaker hardware. Yeah, but that
that it shouldn't happen like that. That just shouldn't be the case. It
should just be better on the newer consoles. I yeah, I think,
Okay, I still I still hope if we get a new, more powerful
switch, that we have games utilizing that specifically, whatever that means, whatever
that means, as long as it's utilized to its full capacity. I don't
care. If there's another version for the old switch that's worse, that's fine.
But if it's if it's in any way developed with that old switch in
mind, and like, oh, it'd be great if we could do this,
but there's no way we can get that to work on the old switch
too, So let's just find a workaround. That's where I don't I don't
want that position for any console. The series s kerfuffle. Yes, that's
right, we'll call that. Yeah, Yes, it's complicated. The whole
Xbox transition from one to series was muddied by third party developers starting to charge
for the upgrade and doing all this weird, wacky shit, and like Xbox's
plans all like came crumbling down around them because everybody you did their all ended
up doing their own weird bullshit, But you know, I agree. I
think if they come out with a new system, they got to utilize the
hardware to the best of its ability. But I like the idea of being
able to play the game wherever you want to play it, even if it's
just a little shittier, you know, like a Steam deck. Like sometimes
playing the game on the Steam deck isn't the best way to play it.
It might be like twenty frames a second, but at least I can do
it. Yeah, I think that way too, And then I don't do
it because I'm like, well, it is twenty frames. You know.
One thing I wanted from this generation of Switch family of consoles, which I
think is just a huge missed opportunity, and you kind of touched on it,
is not being able to just play my games anywhere, you know it.
What would have been really cool? And I set this as the Switch
Light was coming out, but to have an active primary Nintendo Switch O Lead
for example, and an active primary Nintendo Switch Light. Yeah, so that
when I'm at home and I'm playing my O Lead and I'm ducking it and
I'm doing all of that stuff at home, But then I want to go,
like catch a train or something. I can just take my little compact
switch light or put my game cartridge in it, take it out my ol
lied to put my game or even digital and load it up and the cloud
goes okay, syncing to your last save, and then you're often running on
the light and you can run two consoles at once, and they never let
me do that. So my switch light has just been a in a glass
case on display ever since I bought it because I have no reason to play
it. But yeah, they really mess that up. Yeah, outside of
me being a collector and buying every single switch, I literally have every switch.
There is no reason for people to have two switches where that is a
huge marketing campaign to be like, hey, why have one switch when you
can have two everything works on both of them, And then people are doubling
down on buying switches. That's huge. That's so much extra people buy just
a switch light. It's just the idea of the switch light. It's so
cheap, you don't really care like it like it's cheaper. So like there's
a three hundred and fifty dollars oled with a really nice screen in it and
stuff that's nice to have around the house. What about a nice, little,
smaller guy that's only two hundred dollars. If it gets bumped and scratched,
who cares. That's the one I want to be able to carry around,
that's got a deep at it. But also you could give that to
another question in the house. It could be like the kids switch, your
girlfriend, switch your boyfriend, switch whatever, and that's why they want you
to make a second account on it. Yeah, and that's fine, but
they'd be more incentive to be like, hey, I'm going to take that
switch with me today and keep playing my sex. Well, just use my
account. That's the feature that they fucked up is that, Yeah, I
want a home switch, and I want one that I can take with me,
and they made it so that the switch like cannot do that. So
yeah, so silly. That's That's the one thing I really wanted out of
this family of consoles, and I hope moving into that next generation, if
they're looking at making a Nintendo account and everything seamless, let me have two
primaries, just just or or why does it have to be like that?
Why does it have to be primaries? I don't know, I'm just I'm
thinking, And the chat says Steam does Cloud say, really, well,
yes, yeah, I have one of my devices that has Steam on it.
I just pick it up and play the fucking game is on there.
I'm just thinking in terms of Nintendo and their wordage and the way things work
right now in baby steps, like I would I and this is again baby
steps, and it shouldn't have to be this way, But I'd even pay
an extra like couple of dollars on my Nintendo membership to activate a second primary,
kind of like how with Netflix you're gonna pay a little more to get
multiple accounts. So the way it works on Xbox is also fine. So
the reason why there's primaries is because if you buy a game digitally, other
people on that console can also play that game. Uh, but only if
it's the primary, only if it's the one you're like household switch or whatever.
Same thing happens with an Xbox. If you buy a game, other
people on that account can somebody correct me if I'm wrong here. Other people
can play it. If you have another Xbox somewhere else, they don't want
you to because then you just give your account to everybody and then everybody can
play all of your games, you know, with a different accounts account.
So I understand that an Xbox has a primary Xbox and secondary xboxes, but
you can get all if you're logging into your account. You can do whatever
you want on those other xboxes. On a switch, you can't. You
have to always constantly check for the internet connection to play all of your digital
purchases on your secondary switch. Yeah, which is ridiculous. Because it's a
mobile platform. You need to have Wi Fi to play your switch light.
That's ridiculous. The biggest time I got screw I've been screwed by that a
lot, like taking flights and then I guess my switch wasn't my primary switch,
and I didn't know, and I was on a flight and I took
a bunch of games and I was trying to play them, and everyone was
like, need an Internet connection, and I'm like stuck on this flight,
and I'm like, oh my god, i can't play my physical switch and
physical Switch games because I'm on the wrong account with Starfield. But that was
just because Starfield needed an inner. It happened with Starfield too. But that
one time that really screwed me is when I was making my Tears of the
Kingdom review. I wanted to take the new Tiers of the Kingdom Switch into
the cave that I was in and film b roll of me playing the game
in the actual cave. But I took the new O lead that I hadn't
set up yet and didn't think about it. I went down there in the
cave and it was like, you can't play this game without an Internet connection,
and I was like, oh my god, and I'm like in a
cave. I'm like, what can I do? False Spark again in the
chat, says on Xbox you can play your games anywhere your account is on
anywhere your account is as long as you're online. If you're offline, you
have to be on your primary Xbox, which is kind of the exact same
thing as I switch. So maybe I'm completely wrong. You're never wrong.
You're very thank you intelligent. I need that. Ah, do you want
to go for any of these other ones? I mean, there were some
good questions in here, but that's mostly like, yeah, we got to
all the good stuff. I think if you guys want to read the article,
he also asked questions about the Nintendo Museum and what's the Nintendo's plan on
preservation of video games and history, which is a great question with things like
all these e shops and stuff going down, like what is their plan for
that? They also asked about the Nintendo's long lifespan and do you think Nintendo's
methods of having more distinct art styles as a better approach to enhance graphics becoming
less and less possible. There are some really great questions in here that,
you know what, maybe we could even take a look at some of these
more offshoot ones in the bonus episode today, because I wouldn't mind reading some
more of this while you were I don't know. Earlier in the podcast,
I broke down my switch because I wanted to see about making a new uh
save in Mario Wonder and no, no, you've pressed the plus and it
just straight up is like make a new user. Yeah, so you get
one save file per user. It's so strange. I don't know how many
people have multiple profiles on their switch, but this is how games usually work.
Right. Let's say you have one profile, your profile, you load
into a game, you'll have multiple save spots. You can just make new
saves. For some reason, Mario Wonder, if you try hitting a new
save, it'll make you make a new account for that save, and I
don't know if I mean, it's so annoying to make a new account.
So I don't know if you bothered trying, but I tried to do it
quickly just to play a new save, and it wanted me to connect to
the Nintendo Online whole infrastrum. I'm like, I'm not doing all of this
right now. Yeah, Usually if you have multiple accounts already, you can
just load one of those accounts up and then that could be a new save
instead, because it just acts like you're playing on a different profile. But
it was still though my other accounts don't have online accounts because I only pay
for one, and it was yelling at me with those accounts you have to
make. So I don't know what the deal is with Wonder and why they're
doing that, because you can play the game without a Nintendo subscription. Surely
they do that with a lot of Nintendo's stuff, A lot of Nintendo's stuff,
a lot of Nintendo stuff. For some reason, they don't have like
save files some of them. Like you load the game up and it just
starts, you know, because you pick your profile before you even load the
game, so you don't even get a chance to have a save file,
which is ridiculous. There should be like a tag that's like, hey,
I'm picking this user. Here's all the save files for this user. I
don't like that. That doesn't make any sense. So I also just to
check. I used Hannah's account to play a game that I know she doesn't
have Dog or Eye. This is a game Boy inspired a game where you're
a dog Samurai. I just loaded this up and yeah, she can play
it, and it's not her primary switch, so she can play my digital
purchases. And I'm pretty sure it works that way with Xbox. It's on
your switch. Hannah's logged in with her account. Oh that's interesting, and
it's not her primary but she can play. She can play my digital purchases.
Yeah. So usually what I do with my switch, because my main
account talked about this before. My my main account I've been using for years
is Australian, and I have that account on my switches to my main one.
But if I try loading up the e Shop on that account, it
will load up the Australian e Shop and all the prices are way higher,
and I have to deal with transversion rates and everything. So what I've always
done is I have a second account that doesn't have a Nintendo Online subscription or
anything like that. It's just a US account I made on the switch.
I go to that account. I buy all my games on that account,
like I've never I barely ever. The only time I buy games on the
Australian account is when I want to buy them a day early, because literally
works like that. It's crazy. But all my games on the US account,
I download them, I switch back to my Australian account and I load
up the game. So that works fine. That's always worked fine. Interesting
that Anna's actual account is logged in on your switch. I've never thought about
doing that. All my other accounts are or dummy accounts. I don't remember
why that is. I think you know what it is. I remember why
it is, Hey, I remember why it is. She wanted to play
Good Job. She was like, I want to buy this game, and
I was like, I have it, just play it on here, and
then I gave I gave her my switch light to play it, so and
she played it on her account. Actually, no, on the switch light.
That's not my primary So I don't think she she couldn't do it.
She had to use my account to play it on the switch light. I
was going to say, so, like, if she looked at it,
if she looked into your switch and used her profile, would that cloud save
to the point where she could take that back to her switch. Yes,
because she has cloud saves, and she has cloud saves because she's on my
family plant cloud. So that makes it a little different of a connection there.
Cloud saves, cloud saves. We didn't talk about this, but it
was a very awesome thing that then Tender implemented, and that alone, I'm
sure is how they're going to transfer everything over to the now. Yeah,
it's just all your cloud saves. Cloud saves are a wonder in modern technology.
It is all the cloud saves are awesome because I've changed switches a bunch,
as you know, and I get the new like the new Zelda one
and everything, and yeah, literally just lug into your account, you stick
in the game, or you re download the game from your account, and
then when you go to load it up, it'll be like, hey,
we've detected a cloud save or this isn't like backed up, and you press
start on the game, you download the cloud save, and you're back up
and running where you were. There's more conflicts than there should be. I
think there is. And then there's like the Animal Crossing save, which is
like a whole you have to download an app. Yeah, somebody to switch.
Somebody in the chat said that Animal Crossing also does not have save files,
and you know you have to use one use it gets one say file,
and it's much worse than that. Yeah, it's brutal. So if
you want to transfer your Animal Crossing island and save to another switch, you
have to download from the e shop and app that's like Transfer Animal Crossing,
and then you back everything up to that app. I can't remember exactly how
it works. And then on the new switch you download that app too,
and you connect to the app on the other switch and then it manually transfers
everything. The save file for Animal Crossing is not just tied to your account,
it's tied to the switch itself. Yeah, and it's also sketchy because
there's multiple reports and there's a chance that in this process you can lose everything.
There is a process. There's a chance that it messes up and it's
gone and you've lost it, which is brutal. Oh god, all right,
anything else? What have we got here. We're talking about the coffee
I'm going to make right now before the bonus episode. This we're talking about
of a nurse in mind. I think as a way just to wrap up
the conversation. Things are looking very good. It is complicated, but things
are looking very good for this new switch. It looks like everything's going to
be able to transfer over. I'm really excited to see what the switch looks
like. But I think we're in a really cool position. And now that
I've let go of all of my preconceived notions of like, hmm, if
it's backwards compatible, what if it doesn't see well all of that. I'm
looking at this library of games behind me, and I'm like, I get
to play all of this on the switch too when it comes out. I
hope they get enhanced in some way. What if it doesn't have a game
cartridge slot? I'm as I'm saying, I'm letting go of any of those
preconceived notions, and I'm just assuming that all of these will work. It'll
be really cool if they're enhanced in some way, and that'll be really exciting.
I'll tease what we're talking about in the bonus episode. A little bit
besides the coffee I'm about to make. They took down the trailer for the
original Switch reveal trailer, and some people think that that is because there's a
new announcement coming, and I think that's a little ridiculous, but that's what
people are saying. We'll talk about that in the bonus. I'll save my
thoughts for the bonus, and we'll also go over some more with this article
and the interesting things that they talked about. So, if you're a Patreon
for a Lolo price of four ninety nine a month's actually five even, but
let's say four ninety nine a month, you'll get seventy five bonus episodes,
including the new one that we're about to do live right now, so hurry
