Speaker 1: You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio.

00:00:04
Speaker 2: NBA playoffs are underway. My magic beat the Pistons. Pistons can't win in the playoffs. That's eleven consecutive losses for the Pistons. I believe Wemby drops Portland all by himself. It was Wemby versus Portland, Caves, Nuggets, Nicks, Lakers, Celtics and the thunder all lose. The Mets have lost eleven in a row. You know what, You can lose eleven in a row at some point in a season. It's not preferable, but not in April, because in April it's like, oh my god, what's wrong with this? And you know, is it too early to panic? It feels like the Mets fans are because their owners said, hey, there's weather conditions, free tickets to people, and then I guess half the people picked up the tickets to go see the Mets.

00:00:55
Speaker 3: Yes, Marvin, I don't think you can lose eleven in a row with that payroll.

00:00:59
Speaker 4: No can't.

00:01:01
Speaker 2: What do you got three hundred million dollars payroll there for Steve Cohen.

00:01:05
Speaker 5: Three hundred million plus another eighty one million. Dan oh second in the league.

00:01:09
Speaker 2: All right, well, congratulations, the Mets have dropped eleven in a row. I think the stat is there's no team, maybe in baseball history who's had a twelve game losing streak and made the playoffs. I believe that is the stat. I don't know if that's a stat of the day, Marvin, but it might be. By the way, the Oklahoma City Thunder have another lottery pick. The Clippers lost their playing the game. Yes, okay see, and you know it's getting to the point with their bench, their team, I don't know if there's any room for anybody on that team. They may be sending players overseas or to the G League because you know, how much talent can we put on our bench. But the Clippers, you know, that's the Paul George trade, the gift that keeps on giving?

00:01:58
Speaker 1: Is that?

00:01:58
Speaker 2: Is that going to be the Herschel Walker of NBA trades? Now, it's not the worst trade because you know, if you look at maybe Kareem going from the Bucks to the Lakers. Now, Milwaukee got some quality players, but you still traded away Kareem abdul Jabbar. Will Chamberlain got traded the Saint Louis Hawks traded the rights to Bill Russell to the Celtics. I believe there's also Kevin McHale and Robert Parrish going to the Celtics. They were with Paris was with Golden State, and Golden State I think had the second pick overall and the Celtics ended up taking Kevin McHale. So there's trades in NBA history. But the Paul George one, and you know, Shay Gilgess Alexander, You're like, okay, good player. So I'm at Kentucky now he's going to win another MVP year and they may win another title.

00:02:56
Speaker 5: Yes, PAULI, this trade, like you said, goes back to twenty nineteen Clippers. Okay, see they got SGA who was not hot at the time. They used one of the draft picks in twenty twenty two to get Jalen Williams, a core player, and now this is a lottery pick that's unprotected.

00:03:11
Speaker 2: Yeah, they got a lot of draft picks there, but maybe can you package those and maybe move up and try to get somebody who could you know, have an impact on your lineup here and that's a young lineup anyways, that's a young team.

00:03:25
Speaker 6: Yes, Marvin, I.

00:03:26
Speaker 3: Was watching Oklahoma City Thunder game yesterday. So Cason Wallace, one of their bench players, had a great allue dunk, and they were like, oh man, what a great player off the bench.

00:03:35
Speaker 4: He's twenty two.

00:03:35
Speaker 6: I'm sorry, what you know?

00:03:37
Speaker 3: Yeah, all these guys are like Shay's twenty seven, Jalen Williams the other Jalen Williams. They're both twenty four, twenty five years old. So you have another probably four years of these guys as championship contenders.

00:03:51
Speaker 2: Because you got Williams under contract, you got Shay under contract. Chad hombreun Is he under contract as well? Did he get a contract extension? So if you got that core there, and you got all those draft picks and they are the overwhelming favorite, I got draft kings. Here it says Thunder plus one hundred for the title, second favorite, Spurs plus five fifty, the Celtics plus five fifty. Then it's Nuggets, Calves, Nicks, and the Pistons. Chad Holmgren got a five year contract extension, Paul, Yeah, he has.

00:04:25
Speaker 5: A five year deal. He's all set through twenty thirty one. If you were the Thunder, would you take that pick? Let's say it's the ninth pick of the draft and just trade it to someone like Washington for a pick next year or the year after, which could end up being a top two pick.

00:04:40
Speaker 4: Yeah.

00:04:40
Speaker 2: I mean, but I think it's going to be either eleven or twelve depending on the lottery. I don't know if it can be better than that, Marvin, Do you know if that's true that is there a certain window that the thunder that it can only be like the tenth or eleventh pick.

00:04:59
Speaker 3: I don't. I know, it's unprotected, so they can get it no matter what. But I think right now they're projected to be either the eleventh or twelve. But I'm not sure if you can go any higher.

00:05:07
Speaker 6: Okay, can it go? Hire Pauling?

00:05:09
Speaker 5: Yeah, they had the number twelve pick as of now. They have an eighty six percent chance to keep that pick, but obviously they have a fourteen percent chance just did the math to go up to the top four.

00:05:19
Speaker 2: Oh okay, so you're saying there's a chance. By the way, Wemby was a lot of fun to watch last night. Let me say I went well just about nine minutes before I went a little bit further on Wemby at thirty five Spurs had to win against the Blazers, so the thirty five the most ever buys Spur making his postseason debut, topping the previous record at thirty two that was set by Tim Duncan, who was in attendance last night. It's Cole seeing Timmy and David Robinson sitting next to one another and watching them watching Wemby and watching them be amazed because those are two of the best big men of all time and they're watching somebody doing things that they have they had no chance of doing. I mean, David Robinson was a great athlete, but Wemby is a great athlete who is very, very artistic in what he does and how he does it. And watching that last night through their eyes was a lot of fun. All Righty Dylan who showed up late for his first day, What is the poll question today? I did dress up nice, though, Dad, Oh that's nice. Yeah, okay, got a blazer.

00:06:28
Speaker 5: I kind of look more like Simon Bob than anything, but okay, I tried.

00:06:32
Speaker 6: Okay, hat backwards, not big on that.

00:06:35
Speaker 2: Well the balding thing, Oh that's right? Oh is the back row? Is it the bolding row?

00:06:41
Speaker 4: Okay?

00:06:42
Speaker 2: This is the in need of neutrifoil here, I keep telling you, why don't you try neutrifil.

00:06:48
Speaker 6: I can hook you up.

00:06:49
Speaker 5: I will happily take you up on that.

00:06:51
Speaker 2: Okay, but you should yeah yeah, I mean, Dylan goes. You know, I was going to get a haircut, and but I'm afraid it won't grow back. But if it doesn't, then we got nutrafil. Or you just fit in with Todd in the back round.

00:07:05
Speaker 6: It'd be a nutral fool or not said? All right, never mind, all right, okay, what do you have for us? Pole question?

00:07:12
Speaker 4: Dent?

00:07:12
Speaker 5: Well, obviously, we got a couple of big trades.

00:07:14
Speaker 6: Who won the Paul George trade.

00:07:16
Speaker 5: Ok see, you're the Clippers, you soon, or who won the Dexter Lawrence trade.

00:07:22
Speaker 4: Giants of the Bengals.

00:07:23
Speaker 2: Okay, I'm going to talk about that coming up in a couple of minutes here after the commercial break, so we'll dive into the Dexter Lawrence trade. The Bengals, top heavy with contracts with their quarterback and two wide receivers, are now an interior defensive line lineman. But the draft coming up later on this week, of course, and I think the Bengals have had a first round pick every year since nineteen eighty nine, and unless something changes, this would be the first year that they might not have a first round pick.

00:07:56
Speaker 7: Who stand to day Stata day stout out to day scout outa day.

00:08:05
Speaker 6: This is the Stele of the Day, brought.

00:08:09
Speaker 2: To you by Panini America. And we'll also get to your phone calls. Is always best and worst of the weekend. By the way, Will Anderson is now the first non quarterback to reach fifty million dollars a year, and that's a one hundred and thirty four million dollar guarantee. With that contract, Danielle Hunter will make just over forty million. And we don't know what's gonna happen with CJ.

00:08:34
Speaker 6: Stroud.

00:08:35
Speaker 2: So imagine you've got two defensive players combined making ninety million dollars and you're not quite sure what's going to happen with CJ.

00:08:42
Speaker 6: Stroud.

00:08:43
Speaker 2: Now, this drives the Texan fans crazy whenever I bring this up. Uh oh, they're going to extend him. They're not going to trade him. I didn't say they were going to trade him. I just said I would wait another year. And it looks like that's probably what they're doing going to wait another year. Let's see J. Stroud prove everybody wrong. He can bet on himself or you know, I can't give him full price here, like I'm not giving him sixty million dollars, not with what I saw, and it seems like he's regressing.

00:09:13
Speaker 4: Now.

00:09:13
Speaker 2: You can say offensive line, you can say injuries to wide receiver, and I understand all of that, but we can't look at him in a vacuum and say that doesn't affect other players on other teams, other quarterbacks, because how many teams have great offensive lines?

00:09:32
Speaker 6: Great offensive lines?

00:09:33
Speaker 2: Very few five So everybody can say, oh, you know, the offensive line's not that good, or we got an injury to one of our weapons. Okay, that happens with every team to a certain degree. But this is where I want to see if C. J. Stroud is going to be have a contract commensurate to the other players that he was drafted with.

00:09:55
Speaker 6: I want to see another year.

00:09:58
Speaker 2: I know that we look at it. Oh that's a slack in the face. You know they extend you normally after three years. Yes, yes you can, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, you can do that. In this particular instance, I'm not doing it I got to see something more, Yes, PAULI.

00:10:16
Speaker 5: If he go back to his rookie year, he could have got the contract extension then, but it's not available. His rookie year forty one hundred yards, twenty three touchdowns, only five picks. He was eighth in the MVP voting, eighth, but last year three thousand yards, nineteen touchdowns, eight picks. And like you said, this is the spring where it's either you extend them a year early, like Mahomes or Burrow or Josh Allen, or you wait for that fourth year and let it play out.

00:10:43
Speaker 2: And if he happens to play great and you extend him, good for him. But what did I say about Tua don't do it? How did that work out? What did I say about Kyler Murray, don't do it? How did that work out? What did I say about Daniel Jones, Don't do it? How did that work out? Patients at that position? Patients, Yes, Mark and Troy Aikman.

00:11:06
Speaker 3: During the broadcast of the Patriots Texans game, he even talked about they have real questions about whether or not to extend CJ.

00:11:12
Speaker 4: Stroud.

00:11:12
Speaker 3: So its not just you saying that I.

00:11:14
Speaker 2: Know, but whenever I would hear Texan fans will call up, what do you got against CJ?

00:11:18
Speaker 6: You know they had injury.

00:11:20
Speaker 2: I understand all of that, but when you fumble as many times he fumbled that I have to do with injuries, that's just you and some of those passes against the Patriots, where you're going, what are you doing? And I'll go back to when he was in college and look, I co signed on it and said, man, that guy is a great player, the potential to be a great player, and I think it's still there. But you just saw Will Anderson get extended, and I wonder what CJ. Stroud and his agent their angle is going to be. Would you sign for something a little less if they're willing to give you that, or do you bet on yourself?

00:12:40
Speaker 2: Let's bringing Albert Breer, the Monday Morning quarterback senior NFL reporter. Let's break down that deal, the Bengals giving up that tenth pick getting Dexter Lawrence. And let's start with the Giants side of this.

00:12:55
Speaker 6: What do you like not like?

00:12:57
Speaker 8: Well, I mean I like that they got the tenth pick. I went back and look this up.

00:13:01
Speaker 9: The last time a team got a top ten pick for a veteran non quarterback clean was twenty one years ago and that was the Vikings trading Randy Moss to the to the Vikings for the seventh pick of seventh round in Napoleon Harris. So they got really good value here. I do know that they wanted to hold on to him Dan, so I know this does hurt for them and that you know, really it goes back to the Combine in twenty twenty five, after you know, having a really great year in twenty four Lawrence wanted to market correction on his contract because it was three years early.

00:13:40
Speaker 8: The Giants didn't want to say that.

00:13:41
Speaker 9: President months later they agreed to an incentive package and then they circle back this year and you know, really they couldn't ever come to an agreement on the structure of the guarantees that sort of stuff, and so, you know, the Adam Schefter tweet on him him putting on a trade request. I think was April sixth. The Bengals called them on April seventh, and they talked for the remainder of that week, and by the end of that week, the tenth pick was on the table. And so it's just to illustrate to you, like how hard this was for the Giants despite the great return. They tried for another week after that to get something done with Dexter Lawrence, and ultimately they couldn't come to an agreement. So for the Giants, it's an opportunity to reset. You know, now, I think you're in a position where, you know, you get a player who wasn't happy with this situation out the door as you're trying to build a new program. Program is gonna be really demanding under John Harbaugh, and you have two of the top ten picks in the draft and a chance to reset with your types of guys.

00:14:45
Speaker 2: The Bengals situation here and the Jet Burrow factor because it yeah, it is felt like for the last year there has been like this undercurrent of he.

00:14:56
Speaker 6: Wants helped, needs help, feels like I don't know, discouraged.

00:15:01
Speaker 2: Yeah, so I don't know. And once again this is my source saying you got to do something here.

00:15:06
Speaker 9: Yeah, I had, I had someone, I had a GM and another team say to me yesterday and this is like verpaid him.

00:15:13
Speaker 8: Duke had to do this for Joe.

00:15:15
Speaker 9: Duke is their their vice president, player of personnel, basically their GM, Duke Tobin, right, And so you know, like I think there was there is that urgency like we have to compete in the here and the now. But this wasn't haphazard for them either. You know, this is something that it was. It was looking at the draft class, it was looking at the value of the pick, and I think they were looking at what might be available to them there at ten. It probably would have been a kale of Downs or a man Seward Layne. And you know what they found was, you know, as they did their simulations. The guys they were picking at ten for them at least had mid to late first round grades.

00:15:52
Speaker 8: That's the sort of draft it is, so yeah.

00:15:54
Speaker 9: You're trading the tenth pick, but they didn't really value it that way this year, and it was an opportunity to get a guy who can be a true difference maker for them and a force multiplier. And so, you know, like they effectively have taken a room, the defensive tackle room that was a weakness last year and turned it into one of the strongest in the NFL.

00:16:14
Speaker 8: They got Jonathan Allen, who's.

00:16:15
Speaker 9: Coming over from Minnesota, is a great player for a lot of years in Washington.

00:16:20
Speaker 8: You know, they've got TJ. Slayton, who's a good depth piece.

00:16:22
Speaker 9: BJ Hill has been a really good player for them, former teammate of Lawrence is from New York, and then Chris Jenkins, who is the second round pick for them a couple of years ago. They go five deep at that position now and the hope is that that's going to make everyone better.

00:16:35
Speaker 8: And the way they viewed it was there's no.

00:16:37
Speaker 9: One like Dexter Lawrence in this year's draft. The other thing that I think is sort of interesting here is you know, the contract they signed him to a deal that's effectively a three or seventy million dollar contract that's less than twenty four million.

00:16:50
Speaker 8: Dollars a year, which you know, in an environment where.

00:16:53
Speaker 9: Micah Parsons is getting forty six, Aiden Hutchinson's getting forty five, Will Anderson's now getting fifty, that's a real to bargain and recent history shows that guys at that position do last. Chris Jones is still somebody team's game plan around. He's going to be thirty two years old this summer. Aaron Donald was dominant until you know, he retired at thirty two. So this is a guy they feel like they can get three or four really good years out of that's going to be better than what they would have gotten a ten. And you know somebody that offenses have to worry about the minute they break the huddle and have to game plan for the week ahead.

00:17:27
Speaker 2: Can you see a market correction for Miles Garrett if he looks around and he's like, wait a minute, I set the sack record and Will Anderson's getting fifty million dollars.

00:17:35
Speaker 8: Yeah, I think so sure.

00:17:38
Speaker 9: I mean, you know, the crazy thing is that that Miles Garrett deal was done. I think it's now would be thirteen months ago. He was the first guy to break forty, first non quarterback to break forty. They are now seven over that mark. You know, it just gives you an idea of how these things are inflating now.

00:17:53
Speaker 8: And so, you know, I.

00:17:55
Speaker 9: Think for Miles Garrett, it's you know, you're sitting back and you're saying, I could ask the Bunce for that if I'm ever traded, you know, if they were looking at trading me at some point, which I would actually advocate for the Browns looking at that.

00:18:06
Speaker 8: At some point.

00:18:08
Speaker 9: But if the Browns were ever to trade him going to a new team, that would probably be part of your ask. He's certainly within his rights to ask for it. Whether or not he actually does that, I think, you know, maybe we're the point in the calendar where the ship has sailed a little.

00:18:24
Speaker 8: Bit on that.

00:18:25
Speaker 9: But you know, I don't think the idea of him asking for something with a with a five at the front of it is too far off in the horizon.

00:18:33
Speaker 2: So Ca and Albert Breer, the Monday Morning quarterback senior NFL reporter, Let's look at the Patriots situation I don't want to do it in a sensationalistic approach or titillating approach, but I do want to look at this from the football aspect of what has happened. The New York Post, you know, they report that Robert Kraft tried to.

00:18:56
Speaker 6: Kill the story.

00:18:58
Speaker 2: Moving forward, there's the age a Brown potential trade that we've been talking about for quite some time. So how do you how do you cover the Patriots in a grown up manner?

00:19:11
Speaker 9: I think you just kind of consider the people involved, and you consider, you know, the situation that they're all in. And it made me look like I think, you know, it's something that Mike has to address with his players, and probably today, like those players are returning for the off season program today, my guess would be be one of the first things that he says. And I don't think that he's gonna, you know, go chapter and verse through what happened, but they have a sign up in every meeting room in that building. This has make good decisions on and off the field, and I think Mike can very easily address this and say, look like, I'm always asking you guys to be accountable. I'm always asking you guys to make good decisions on and off the field, regardless of how you see what has been in the news over the last two weeks. Obviously I made some mistakes, and you know, I'm standing in front of you willing to admit it to you. And you know, I think the thing about it is like, to me, those guys are twenty three, twenty four, twenty five, twenty.

00:20:06
Speaker 8: Six year old guys.

00:20:08
Speaker 9: You think they might be texting about this with people amongst each other, you know, and so like, if you don't.

00:20:14
Speaker 8: Address it, it kind of becomes the elephant in the room.

00:20:17
Speaker 9: And you know, Mike is one thing that Mike has an abundance of is is emotional intelligence, and he understands. I think he's you know, really good understanding what makes people tick and understanding, you know, the ebbs and flows the players go through. And so my guess would be he'll address it right away. He'll you know, take care of it that way. Now, the front of the front facing part of this, the public part of it, I'm I'm interested in too, because the longer you let this go, the more it leaves open the conversation. And I mean, if the first time he's going to be available is after the draft on Thursday night, like they're going to be welcoming a first round pick into the building, and is every question now going to be about know what happened in Arizona? I you know, I think you I think you probably want to say something before then, So like I just say, like, you know, the way.

00:21:11
Speaker 8: I've handled it is, you know, I you know.

00:21:14
Speaker 9: I try to I try to be professional in the way that I talk about it. You know, as many jokes are out there and everything else on social media, and you know, and and and and and how and how it relates to to football obviously, is is the primary thing that that that I would be looking at, and how it relates to my job, and then the aj Brown thing. I think I think we all have an idea of where this is going. I think we've all had an idea of where this is going, you know for some time now.

00:21:41
Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, you're trying to deal with this. And I've been on vacation for the last week. But when I was on vacation, people wanted to know, you know, do you know Diana Roussini, she's been on the show. I don't know her, but you know, she was always a delight when she was on the show and had information and energy veryble. I don't know, Mike, but you you're you're looking at this in a couple of different ways, and I'm trying to look at this football wise, but then you've got to look at this. How does this affect NFL media moving forward? Does this have an impact in any way?

00:22:17
Speaker 6: Yeah?

00:22:17
Speaker 9: I mean, well, first of all, I covered Mike as a player, so I've known Mike for a long long time.

00:22:22
Speaker 8: And Diana. I first met Diana.

00:22:24
Speaker 9: I was around you know, the Redskins a lot and the Mike Shanahan and Jay Gruden days and she was a local TV reporter and I got to know her then, So I know, and like both people involved, you know, I think what it does is it puts more scrutiny on our relationships, you know, and it just puts more scrutiny on how we handle and manage our relationships, regardless of what actually happened in Arizona. I'm not saying one way or the other, but you know, I've thought about this a lot and how and this is before any of this happened, Like you know, I've always sort of felt like, you know, I could be seen at a bar with a head coach or a general manager of whatever team, and nobody would really think that was weird. Right, the two of us, by ourselves, like women in our business, may not have that luxury, you know, And this probably puts even more scrutiny on those sorts of things that I view as necessary to me doing my job, you know. And I tell all the people I cover like I view these as thirty year relationships.

00:23:23
Speaker 8: That doesn't mean we're not going to have ups and downs.

00:23:25
Speaker 9: That doesn't mean I'm not going to have to report on stuff that's uncomfortable for you.

00:23:29
Speaker 8: I've had to report.

00:23:30
Speaker 9: On guys I really like being fired. I've had to report on things that have happened within the teams where I know the decision makers really well, and it's not going to bode well for them that I'm reporting those things.

00:23:43
Speaker 8: And you try to be as respectful as you can.

00:23:45
Speaker 9: And like my guiding light on it has always been I'm treating these like relationships that I'm going to have after all of that, you know, and to build those relationships, Dan, And this is where I'm gonna bring it back around. You know, you have to get to know these people as you would anyone else in your life, you know, and so we all find ways to build relationships with these people.

00:24:05
Speaker 8: And you know, it's funny. I've used this with it.

00:24:08
Speaker 9: I don't want to be crass about it, but I've used this line with journalism classes before because I think, you know, college kids relate to this. I mean, it's it's sort of like hitting on a girl like build source. Building in the NFL is sort of like hitting on a girl in the bar, you know what I mean like, And here's why, because there's a little awkwardness to it, and the other.

00:24:28
Speaker 8: Party knows exactly what you want from them, and.

00:24:30
Speaker 9: So you know, you know, so you but you have to build trust with those as barriers, you know what I mean like, And so.

00:24:39
Speaker 8: You know, you do you do your best to do that.

00:24:41
Speaker 9: And I do think like the result of this, again, regardless of what actually happened here is is there's more scrutiny on these sorts of relationships for sure.

00:24:50
Speaker 4: Yeah.

00:24:50
Speaker 2: I've mentioned this before that I got close to Mark McGuire and Jason Joumby and then I had to report on Mark McGuire and Jason Joumby, and and I think they had a problem. I think it hurt them that I was saying things. I had to do my job, and it's it's something that gave me, you know, a real awakening of you can get close, but you have to let them know that there's a line of demarcation. And I don't know if I did that very well because now I'm reporting on Mark Maguire in front of Congress and Jason Jealmbie with steroids, and it affected our relationship from then on.

00:25:35
Speaker 9: And there's a job to do, and I've had this. I've had to explain this to some guys, you know. I remember, like in two thousand and twenty and sixteen, I reported on what was happening in the Rams building and it was a mess.

00:25:51
Speaker 8: It was, you know, their first year in LA and the thing was crumbling.

00:25:54
Speaker 9: And I remember like one of the things that kind of came out of that was the people in the building were referring to it as Rams Junior High, which was what everybody plucked from that story. And Jeff Pesher wound up getting fired, you know, two or three days later. And I had a good relationship with Jeff and a ton of other people in that building, and I had to make those phone calls ahead of publishing it, like hey, here's what I have, and there'd be like kind of the awkward oh okay, you know, and you go through that and.

00:26:21
Speaker 8: Like you you you know, you know, you know, it's your job to do these things.

00:26:25
Speaker 9: And what I what I try to tell them Dan, like a lot of times, you know, in the aftermath and sometimes even ahead of time, is like, look, I know it sucks that this is going to be out there, but you would rather have me reporting this story, you know, in full and responsibly than it getting out there in some other way. And you know, like I think that that's the thing that you try to get people to understand is you do have a job to do. But if there's something that's going to get out there that's not great, and it's going to get out there regardless, the relationship that you have with the reporter can actually help you as a subject, because now that it's not that that that story is going to be whitewashed, is that that story is going to get out there in a more responsible way than it might otherwise. And you know, I think that that's again like part of the give and take when it comes to all of.

00:27:16
Speaker 2: This stuff, anything happening prior to Thursday.

00:27:23
Speaker 9: I mean, I think if there are trade up situations, a lot of them are going to happen on the clock. You know, there are some veteran names floating around out there that I think could be moved. We talked about the AJA thing. That's not going to happen until after June first.

00:27:43
Speaker 6: But if you were going to bet what the Steelers are going to do.

00:27:49
Speaker 9: You know, as far as like who that what, like whether they take a quarterback on Thursday.

00:27:53
Speaker 6: Aaron Rodgers situation, right, So.

00:27:56
Speaker 9: I think Aaron Rodgers is going to come back, but I don't think they have assurances of it. And I think one thing that helps is last year's situation. They were in the same spot. I mean, you know, in May, the quarterback room was Will Howard and Mason Rudolph. Once again, the quarterback room is Will Howard and Mason Rudolph. So, like, I think the one thing that people don't know about this is like Aaron has been really respectful about communicating with people, and last year from March until he signed in June, he was on the phone with Mike Tomlin every week and he was talking with Arthur Smith, who was the offensive coordinator at the time, periodically and like he was respectful of what they had to do, and I would be surprised if he's not doing the same thing, which is why I think the Steelers have been relatively.

00:28:50
Speaker 8: Content and calm about this whole thing.

00:28:53
Speaker 9: And so for Mike McCarthy, I think, you know, keeping those conversations private. We all know how Aaron can be keeping those conversations privates the most important thing, and the same way it was for Mike Tomlin. And you know, my guess would be we get Aaron Rodgers back in twenty twenty six, and to me, like the tell here and maybe we don't.

00:29:12
Speaker 8: I don't think any final decision has been made, But to me, the tell is how they.

00:29:16
Speaker 9: Doubled down on on on the older core again, like this looked on paper like the year that maybe you would you know, you would hit a hard reset instead.

00:29:26
Speaker 8: You know with the older guys, they have.

00:29:27
Speaker 9: Your TJ watch or Cam Hayward's even DK metcalf is getting a little bit older, you know, Jalen Ramsey, you're they they they brought in guys like Rico Dwell, who's going into his eighth year at running back. They brought in Jamel Deane, a thirty year old corner. They brought in Michael Pittman, who is you know, on the at the very end of his twenties.

00:29:50
Speaker 8: From the Colts.

00:29:50
Speaker 9: So they've done things to double down on the existing core, which at least makes it looks like they're like they're like they're planning to.

00:29:58
Speaker 8: Have a veteran quarterback at the trigger.

00:30:00
Speaker 2: If I sent the over under on quarterbacks taken in the first round at one and a half, I'd go under.

00:30:07
Speaker 9: I think it's Mendoza and Simpson in the second round, and then maybe not another one until.

00:30:11
Speaker 8: The fourth round.

00:30:12
Speaker 6: Oh okay, I think something Simpson.

00:30:15
Speaker 9: I think here's the interesting thing with Simpson. So like I think that there's a there's an optics thing for the Jets and Cardinals here, like say, like the Jets and Cardinals like them, right, And like I think you have to consider if you trade up to twenty five or twenty four, twenty whatever it is to get them, now, does that take you off the market for a quarterback in twenty seven? Whereas if you just take them in the second round, you can double back and take another swing next year, you know, Like I think there's there's a lot of history of that, Like if you look, you know, in twenty seventeen, the Browns took the shan Kaiser from Notre Dame in the second round, came back the next year and took Baker Mayfield first overall. Same thing for the Panthers in twenty ten. They took Jimmy Classan in this around, came back and took Cam Newton first overall the next year. So I think ty Simpson for someone could be a swing where it's let's get him in the building, see what he is for a year, and maybe it works, and then great, we've got our quarterback.

00:31:14
Speaker 8: Or you know, he isn't.

00:31:17
Speaker 9: Quite what we want long term, and now we've got a guy who can be a long term backup for him for us, and we take our quarterback next year.

00:31:26
Speaker 2: Good stuff, Albert, thanks for joining us. Talk to you soon. Thanks Dan, Albert Breer. Monday Morning, Quarterback your phone calls an our best and worst of the weekend.

00:31:36
Speaker 1: After this, Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at foxsports radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app. Search FSR to listen live. The NFL Draft is where it all starts.

00:31:51
Speaker 8: This is crazy.

00:31:52
Speaker 4: I can't believe it.

00:31:53
Speaker 1: From the picks to the breakdowns. Weird covering all of it because.

00:31:57
Speaker 8: In the NFL, I'll put myself in a position to be.

00:32:00
Speaker 6: One pick can change everything.

00:32:02
Speaker 1: It's Drapped night Lock joined Jenny Tapped, Jay Lazer, LeVar Arrington and former Falcons GM Terry Bombo April twenty third and by Emisiffic and it's brought to you by Express Bros.

00:32:14
Speaker 6: And we will Fox Sports.

00:32:17
Speaker 2: Radio Reggie Miller with Mike Tariko, Jamal Crawford, Zora Stevenson calling Victor Wembanyama's first career playoff game on Sunday against the Blazers. He went for thirty five. Game two of that series will be Tuesday night at eight Eastern on NBC and Peacock. I thought it was pretty cool, Reds that you had Tim Duncan and David Robinson there watching Victor Wembanyama, and you guys had the camera on those guys watching wem ben Yama doing things that those Hall of famers couldn't do.

00:32:50
Speaker 4: Yeah, it was almost it's already been a passing of the guard rush, just a passing of the center. But I said on air that the Spurs fans the luxury that they had starting with David Robinson and then getting Tim Duncan and now the next level type center in a Victor and some of the things that he did last night, like running to the corner on a broken play, knocking down a three the behind the back on Denny odvia a six eight, you know, prototype guard, and then finishing at the rim. Those guys were just shaking their head and a plotting like, hey, it was almost at one time David Robinson's like turned to Tim and was like, could you do that? And Tim looked back at him like, no, I couldn't do that. So it was a kind of a cool moment to have all three of those guys in a frame.

00:33:48
Speaker 2: How many teams can win legitimately, how many teams can win? Let's start in the West. How many teams can go to the finals?

00:33:57
Speaker 4: Okay, see Denver as San Antonio.

00:34:03
Speaker 6: Three, Okay, how many in the East.

00:34:08
Speaker 4: Boston? It will take a lot for the Knicks. I do like the Knicks because I will always trust it in Jalen Brunson. If Kat plays like he did, in game one and be consistent throughout the playoffs. The Knicks have a legitimate shot. And then after Detroit, what the hell? Detroit? You know, I was shocked, But again, this is playoff and you don't get too high and you can't get too though it's one game. You don't win sixty plus games without being able to go on the road and win a game. So it's no time to panic in Detroit. But it's very head scratching.

00:34:52
Speaker 2: The NBA Awards, so this is kind of like the Heisman. You have the top three in each category? Is that what they're okay? So MVP, you got Shay, you got Joker, and you got Victor. Probably going to end in that order, right that Shaye will win the MVP, and then it'll be Joker and Wemby.

00:35:12
Speaker 4: I'm going with Shae. Yeah. Look, and you could make a case for all three guys and you wouldn't be wrong. I can make a case for Wemby and certainly for Jokic. Averaging a triple double to lead the league and assist in rebounds and then average twenty seven to twenty eight points. It's ridiculous any other year, in my opinion, Yokic would win it. But just what Shay has done in back to back years and the long playoff run, and then you come in with two of your best players. Remember Jalen Williams miss fifty games. Yeah, and then Isaiah Hartenstein missed forty something games as well and still be this productive. That's why I'm going.

00:35:52
Speaker 6: With Shae Paulie. Would you check?

00:35:54
Speaker 2: This is some random stat just came into my head. Did John Stockton have sixteen years where he played eighty two games in the regular season that it might be?

00:36:02
Speaker 6: Does that sound about right?

00:36:04
Speaker 4: And it sounds about right.

00:36:06
Speaker 6: I think it's sixteen years.

00:36:08
Speaker 2: It might have been sixteen consecutive years that he played eighty two eighty two games in the regular season.

00:36:15
Speaker 6: Rookie of the Year.

00:36:18
Speaker 4: Two weeks ago. I would have had Con, but after all what I saw down the stretch, and from what I understand, the ballots didn't go out because of that arbitration that was going on with Luca and Cad. So ballots came after that playing game with Con and the struggles that he had in that game, and then obviously just you know, he played better the next sign out against Orlando, but they still got like walloped I'm going with Cooper flag PAULI, do you have it?

00:36:54
Speaker 5: John Stockton started eighty two games fifteen out of seventeen seasons for his first couple where they ease him in fifteen.

00:37:04
Speaker 4: A point guard, by the way, a smaller point guard like you know, five eleven six feet point guard.

00:37:10
Speaker 2: His last four seasons after he was thirty five, he played all eighty two games regular season, no load management, no, no NFL or the NBA Defensive Player of the Year.

00:37:22
Speaker 6: Well that's that's four guys.

00:37:23
Speaker 4: That's the big thing is will it be unanimous?

00:37:28
Speaker 6: It should be? Yeah, it should it should be.

00:37:30
Speaker 4: It should be.

00:37:31
Speaker 6: He should have been Defensive Player of the year last year.

00:37:35
Speaker 4: Play in the sixty five game rules, remember the last thirty plus.

00:37:39
Speaker 2: Because of the Yeah, you're right with the blood plumb boy clo uh. Most improved player.

00:37:47
Speaker 4: Now that he is interesting, Okay, then you've got Jalen Durham, Yeah right, yeah, any odd from Portland and ni kill Alexander or Walker right?

00:37:58
Speaker 6: Yeah?

00:38:01
Speaker 4: To me, most improved a guy that goes from averaging nine points to twenty one, that's most improved. Those other two guys were all stars and lottery picks. If I remember right, Jalen Durham and Denny Denny with a lottery pick in Washington. To me, I'm going with Alexander Walker.

00:38:21
Speaker 2: I'd go with Denny just because when he first came out, I said he was going to be great, and Marvin Marvin would remind me that he was waiting for him to be great. And then he got traded to Portland and I go, oh my god, and now he became great.

00:38:37
Speaker 5: I know.

00:38:37
Speaker 6: Sixth Man of the Year.

00:38:41
Speaker 4: Very very difficult one to pick here, Keldon Johnson here the Spurs, Jimi Hawkes with Miami, and who's.

00:38:50
Speaker 6: The third, Tim Hardaway Junior? The third Tim Hardaway Junior.

00:38:53
Speaker 4: I'm going I'm gonna be a little bit of a homer here. I'm going with Hymi Hawckets.

00:39:00
Speaker 2: I figured you're doing that Coach of the Year. You got Bickerstaff with the Pistons, Mitch Johnson with the Spurs, and Joe Missoula with the Celtics.

00:39:09
Speaker 4: Can make a case for all three. I'm going with Joe Missoula because before the season started everyone thought it was going to be a gap year, not Tatum, and the projected wins was like around forty two or forty three and they were going to be battling in the plane to get the number two seed. Obviously, Tatum came back and they're the favorites to win the East. Joel Missoula and what he's done.

00:39:35
Speaker 2: I agree Steve Kerr feels like he's done in Golden State, right, you kind.

00:39:44
Speaker 4: Of sense that, like when he pulled Draymond and yet it and thanked them and it was almost like the writing was on them all.

00:39:51
Speaker 6: I hope not his choice. Reg do you think it's his choice.

00:39:57
Speaker 4: I think he has earned the right for it to be his choice.

00:40:01
Speaker 6: Yes, yeah, I agree.

00:40:04
Speaker 4: It'll come out. It'll come out that way.

00:40:06
Speaker 6: Okay, how much longer is Steph?

00:40:09
Speaker 2: I mean this might this is Steph like Kobe when Kobe ended his career and you're winning fifteen games. They're now they're a little more threatening. I don't know what happens with Jimmy Butler and Draymond, and but how much longer do you think Steph wants to play where you're not playing in real meaningful games?

00:40:30
Speaker 4: Uh wants to play. I can see him playing two to three more years, you know what. And the way science is and the way these guys take care of their bodies.

00:40:40
Speaker 6: But with Golden State.

00:40:42
Speaker 4: With Golden State, I cannot see him in AKA. I cannot see him in the uniform. And again, he's a he's a player that's earned the right to go to management and say, I want to finish my career rich, You've make it happen Steph. How many times? How many more games are we gonna be able to see Steph like that? And I still think he has games like that left in him. But you're gonna have to build the roster around him, bringing some younger guns, some hired help. Can you do it eighty two times? No? Can he do it sixty to sixty five times? Yes? But you've got to build the roster around him. He's earned that right.

00:41:33
Speaker 6: Does Lebron play another season?

00:41:37
Speaker 4: Yes, you say, I think he's gonna. I think he's gonna return to the Lakers. I really do. I think I just can't see him anywhere else unless unless there's gonna be some kind of Beatles reunion tour him Katie Steph, they all go to the Bay Area, because Stephan is not leaving the Bay If those guys want to go on up there, maybe I don't know, but I just can't see Lebron leaving the Lakers with Luca and Aarre. I think they'll resign Ar and he'll take a hometown discount.

00:42:17
Speaker 6: I think how much longer does KD play?

00:42:21
Speaker 4: Again? All these guys are knocking on the door, but they're also efficient. Katie's going to be an All NBA first, second or third teamer. No, he won't be first team, but he can certainly be second or third.

00:42:35
Speaker 6: He feels like he's gonna play somewhere.

00:42:37
Speaker 2: He's going to be a guy we see and like you know, when White Chocolate is playing in those pickup games or Jamal Crawford, it just feels like Kati is a basketball lifer.

00:42:48
Speaker 4: He is, he is. And again the way these guys take care of their bodies, again, science is on their side in terms of recovery. You know, all of them aren't really night owls, so their body is intact. Why not well? And Lebron has proved again with no Luca, no Ar, and the last two weeks he's in that first game of Game one versus Houston. It's Labron of Old. So let's see.

00:43:21
Speaker 2: I wonder about this European league that's happening. If we could see older players go over there, the way soccer players from over over here have come over here with MLS that we might see somebody late late in their career go over there and play in Rome or you know, they're they're going to be setting up these you know, different cities are going to be hosting NBA Europe, and you know, maybe we maybe we export as we've imported with soccer.

00:43:54
Speaker 4: It would be smart. You have a built in fan base. I assume they'll probably play less games. They won't play a rigorous like NBA schedule, or there's eighty two games and there's back to backs over there in Europe, there's days in between. You might play two games a week, so it'd be less taxing on your body. And again you have that built in fan base. Because obviously n NYAY is a global game. I think it'd be a smart move. You can probably get the bag going over there as well because of that.

00:44:24
Speaker 6: You remember your first playoff game.

00:44:29
Speaker 4: It was against the Bad Boys, I believe, yeah, in Detroit. Yeah, yeah, you say it like that, like you know my numbers. I think we were on the road and I do. The one memory I do remember is so coming to me. It was like, hey, you know he knew it was my first game and two congratulations to the playoffs. Is you know they were the bad boys at the time, they were fighting for a championship. He's like, I'm just going to give you some words of advice. Try to stay on the perimeter. If you get by me, if you get buy me, all hell's gonna break loose in my painting. And I was like, Joe, I appreciate that. I'm going to do my game, but I mean I did take my licking in that first game, but I came back for more.

00:45:14
Speaker 2: I got you was seventeen and a loss to the Pistons.

00:45:19
Speaker 4: How bad was the loss?

00:45:21
Speaker 6: You lost by twelve?

00:45:23
Speaker 4: Okay, not too bad.

00:45:24
Speaker 6: But did Rodman ever guard you.

00:45:27
Speaker 4: At some point? Yeah? But not We're like he got for long stretches.

00:45:31
Speaker 6: Nod Mars was guarding you.

00:45:33
Speaker 4: D Mars the whole time.

00:45:35
Speaker 6: He was great, the.

00:45:36
Speaker 4: Best defender him and Michael Cooper, maybe because I was younger and they were so much older, and with Michael Cooper, like he really brought me under his wing those UCLA runs during the summer. But Michael Cooper and Joe Dumars, I tell people all the time the best defender I ever I ever went against.

00:45:56
Speaker 6: Well except for Jordan. No, No, Jordan wasn't a great defender.

00:46:07
Speaker 4: He's a good defender, but I didn't. Wow, it was a good defender.

00:46:11
Speaker 6: Okay, all right, not great, But.

00:46:15
Speaker 4: I will say this. They were switching Scotty onto me.

00:46:20
Speaker 6: Scotty a better defender than Mike.

00:46:23
Speaker 4: It's different. They're different.

00:46:26
Speaker 2: I think Scotty is a better defender than Mike, more, more versatile, longer.

00:46:33
Speaker 4: Both were great. That's what made the Bulls great was both of them. And Rodman.

00:46:37
Speaker 6: Okay, but Gary Peyton or Michael Jordan better defender. Different, Okay, all right.

00:46:45
Speaker 4: On the ball, Gary's on the ball, picking you up full. Mike shooting gaps, uh hand quickness. It's just different. They're different.

00:46:58
Speaker 6: So Mike on the ball was and as dangerous as off the ball.

00:47:01
Speaker 4: I knew I could move my I knew Mike was always going to shoot the gaps and go over top. So if he had a good point guard, which we did Mark Jackson, they knew to move the screen. So I had great screeners and my Davis boys, and I said, go tag them twenty three, Go get them right there, the black Cat, Go get them.

00:47:24
Speaker 6: You know, Bart, he wasn't.

00:47:26
Speaker 4: He wasn't disciplined. He wasn't disciplined enough to lock and load, lock and follow. So I knew he would always shoot gaps. So if I could fade, stop, go, and once I got the ball a couple of dribbles left or right, I could get it now when he trailed all the time because of his strength, but I knew he wasn't going to be disciplined enough because he was trying to get the steel to go down and stick out his tongue and dunk all over us. But he did a few times.

00:47:55
Speaker 2: I saw where Barkley and Michael might be mending their Oh.

00:48:00
Speaker 4: Isn't that.

00:48:03
Speaker 6: They're gonna play go.

00:48:05
Speaker 2: Look, so you don't care about your relationship with Mike Rank, you don't have.

00:48:11
Speaker 4: I respect the hell of him. He's the great he's the greatest.

00:48:15
Speaker 6: You don't need him to be a friend.

00:48:16
Speaker 4: I do not need him to be the back. I do not need that.

00:48:20
Speaker 2: And Michael agrees, wholeheartedly, wholeheartedly, wholeheartedly. Does Mike dislike anybody more than you? Well, Isaiah, Isaiah, right, Isaiah, I take off the board man.

00:48:40
Speaker 4: I would love to get those two in a room. Oh, I would love to see that.

00:48:46
Speaker 6: Who throws the first punch? Zeke, Reggie.

00:48:53
Speaker 2: There's a video of Isaiah Thomas punching Rick Mahorn, and Mahorne turns and at Isaiah Grick Horns like you gotta be.

00:49:06
Speaker 6: I know.

00:49:08
Speaker 2: Oh good stuff. Uh, we'll talk to you next week, alright, Reggie Alowish Miller Junior, the third
