What up, boys, how we feeling? Good morning guys? What up fellas? There he is a good, good buddy of mine. There he is Big Brady Quinn, Big Brady. Let me tell him a great friend, great dad. Wait, wait to raise your kids, good guy, right s. 00:01:20 Speaker 3: It's been one hell of a morning for us so far. I've got one one child as the I've been telling you guys, the flu is running rampant throughout our house and one woke up with it coming out both ends and that was followed up by our three year old. I'm not sure what my wife was doing, but somehow he fell near her and he's now at the er getting stitches in the back of his head. So really, yeah, it has been quite the adventure for us this morning. 00:01:49 Speaker 1: So that's man, well, I hope. 00:01:52 Speaker 3: Meanwhile, that's not where it stops. Meanwhile, the old meat wagon had a hip replacement yesterday, so of course, trying to be a good friend. When I go to pick him up, they said he'll be staying with you right for the next twenty four to forty eight hours. Go excuse me, They're like, no, he he needs someone to like make sure he's good helping with his mets making he doesn't fall because so now he's even bunking up here for the next I guess one more day, all right at this point, so it's. 00:02:25 Speaker 4: A it is what's going on over there? Get your hip right, trust me? No, no good deed goes unpublished. 00:02:35 Speaker 1: We gotta we got a kid in the er, which is which is uh scary in itself, and then you got the wagon with a bump. 00:02:44 Speaker 3: Fine, it's just he's got a decent cash in the back of his head. Fortunately, we had a good friend down the street as a doctor. He came by before he went to the hospital. I said, yeah, he goes. Honestly, he goes, I think it'll need stitches, but uh, he goes, they could glue it, but he's like, they'll probably use stitches. 00:02:57 Speaker 5: So mane shorter, right, you know, you gotta make sure they're straight. You don't want them, you don't want Was it the girl? Is it a girl? 00:03:06 Speaker 1: Was it a girl? One of the boys? 00:03:09 Speaker 5: I guess it might not be that bad because I was about they called him Cabina at the hospital and rich no, no, no, no, no. 00:03:18 Speaker 1: I thought that was both his kids. 00:03:20 Speaker 5: Just a mix up. Oh, Okay, it's a fun story. That was that was you took us off the red No, it wasn't off the rails. It's a true story. So so uh yeah, you just gotta make sure that the stitches are as straight as they can possibly beat. You gotta think about them like into the future. Like I'm an expert on stitches for your kids, you know what I mean. So you just got to make sure that like the one kid, it was a boy, he split his forehead open and Trisha had a plastic surgeon come to the hospital and do it just so it would be a straight line and it didn't have like the whole tremendous zipper look to it on there. So anyway, yeah, stitches, what it was, it was he went to a skull too, he. 00:04:05 Speaker 1: Did it. I don't know, it's too long ago. 00:04:08 Speaker 5: But then Penn kicked through a window like she used to lay on she had this like little play area she lay on her back. 00:04:15 Speaker 1: Well that happened recent too, I remember, yeah, not too long ago. 00:04:18 Speaker 5: So and and we have to go back and get that revised. At some point she did a job on that one. So yeah, man, kids, man, we were just talking about this off the air. 00:04:30 Speaker 1: I mean, who needs sports? You got kids? That's true. 00:04:38 Speaker 3: We were the one guy who might not be coaching sports anymore, is Steve Kerr? 00:04:41 Speaker 1: Right? Yeah, that's uh way to get us back. Look, man, Uh, Steve Kerr has pretty much had the Warriors in hospice for the entire season. I mean, like, just listen to him talk whenever he's talking in interviews. It's true. It's true, whenever he's talking in interviews. This year he declined an extension because he wanted to see where things were at and whatnot. But you hear him talk during the course of the year and he says, well, you know, we're a dynasty that's ending. Okay, Well, way to provide optimism. Jimmy Butler gets hurt. You know. Draymond Green even said it. Anything that could go wrong has gone wrong. This year. They were a thirty seven win team. Steph came back for the postseason, but he wasn't really healthy and so he's just sort of had this doom and gloom fatal reality to what the Warriors are nowadays. And so Draymond Green spoke on his podcast yesterday about the potential of Steve Kerr walking away and had this to say, I've never. 00:05:42 Speaker 6: Been so uncertain since early in my career on what happens next. But I'm truly at a loss now because you just don't know what direction will be. What Steph, myself Steve shared a moment and what could be our last time playing with Steve as our coach. I'm happy we got to share that moment and like he didn't miss the moment. 00:06:02 Speaker 1: It was a big deal. 00:06:03 Speaker 6: I hope he's our coach next year, go in my opinion, and I think nah, just because it just feels like that, It felt like that was it. Also, hope I'm on this team next year. We also don't know that. And man, if it was, what a run It's been so lucky to have had for twelve years. Steve as my coach. We shall see. 00:06:20 Speaker 3: I don't know. 00:06:21 Speaker 6: She's gotta stay ready for whatever it is and roll with the punches. 00:06:25 Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a wrap. He's Yeah, he's not coming back. And there was a report that came out from ESPN where it talked about controlling owner Joe Lacob and apparently team sources indicated that Lacob wanted to hear Kerr express a hunger to continue executing the nitty gritty, detailed daily job, not a reluctant acceptance that he should continue coaching purely out of loyalty for Green and Curry. And that's sentimentally of riding out this era. That's why if Kurr decides he wants to return, there's a desire for management for him to sign a multi year deal. Team sources said, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. It just it just feels like he knew it, he had it, He probably felt it before the season started, and the way the season played out, you know, it's an end of the end of the road, end of the era, end of a dynasty for the Golden State Warriors. 00:07:17 Speaker 3: I mean, I think the dynasty feels like it's been over for a little bit. Now, is that fair to say? 00:07:22 Speaker 1: Yes on his career, but this was like the Yeah. 00:07:27 Speaker 3: They've been competitive, but they haven't been how most people look at defining a dynasty. 00:07:31 Speaker 1: I mean, if if you look at, for example. 00:07:33 Speaker 3: The accolades of Steve Kerr, the first coach in NBA history to lead his team to sixty seven or more wins in three consecutive seasons, right, obviously, he's won multiple championships and he's got the most wins in franchise history for Golden State. I look at this and I go, you know, in your minds, what has happened of late? Because early on it felt like they kind of had their Big three with Steph, Clay and Raymond, and then they added KD at one point two and it feels like, well, that's an easy situation to win in. But where is this kind of falling apart from him? I mean, is this a situation where you feel like he's done done or he's just done with Golden State, they need to do a revamp, and he moves on to coach elsewhere. 00:08:16 Speaker 1: I've seen that he has said that he does not want to coach anywhere other than Golden State. If he does coach, and you know, before he took the job, he was a great broadcaster on TNT. He was awesome, and so I wonder if maybe he just looks at this and says, why go back to the grind of that in an unfamiliar place when I can you know, go broadcast or just walk away for good, or who knows, maybe take a front office role. I mean, we've seen coaches do that before. 00:08:42 Speaker 3: Pat Riley think he initially he initially had a front office role. Yeah, when he first retired and got into I guess post career or afterlife of basketball. 00:08:54 Speaker 5: I'd say media probably is the natural progression for Steve Kerr. It sounds like he's just worn down and worn out. I mean, this team went thirty seven and forty five this year. To your point, Q, they weren't very competitive this year. They have a lot of storylines, as you mentioned, Jonas playing out with injuries and things that could go wrong for them go wrong. Yes, what's changed. I mean, I just think that they've gotten to a point of where it's been a run and it's probably looking as though it's run its course. Whatever it is that they were doing early on, the vibrance of it, the newness of it, the uncertainties of it. You know, they say, when you're looking up at the top of the mountain, it looks way different than when you're looking down. I personally don't want to come down off of a mountain. If I'm able to get to the top of it. They've climbed to the top of it. They did create a dynasty. They do have four titles. I mean, he's done just as well as as a head coach as he even did as well, probably did better as a head coach than he even did as a player on one of the greatest basketball teams ever, you know. Assembled I mean he's made what six finals in eight years at one point. 00:10:17 Speaker 3: Well he went to five in a row. 00:10:19 Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean that's pretty pretty phenomenal run for him. But sometimes things just you know, it's like once you lose it, sometimes it's just it's just gone. And and I think that that's what you're seeing with you know, with this Golden State team. I think you also got to look at the idea that other teams catch up. I mean, hello, everybody's not going to just sit there and just keep kissing the ring like other teams catch up. And they're in the West, They're not in the easiest of conferences to maintain a level of dominance there in the West, and that's where where all the juggernuts are. So I mean, you know, teams have caught up and they it's kind of run its course. 00:11:06 Speaker 1: It's also why that last title they got against Boston and twenty two was pretty important, especially for Steph Curry, because there was a thought. You know, they won the first one, but while the Warrior or the Cavs were banged up because Kyrie was hurt and everything that was going on there, and then Kevin Durant got there. They won the other ones. But in twenty two, Steph was the guy who rallied them when they were trailing in a game in Boston that would have put the Celtics up three to one, and then he iced it and won that and it just felt like that was really, that was it, and that was the last one to conclude what's been an incredible run that changed the NBA. It changed the way people play basketball. I thank you guys. 00:11:48 Speaker 5: Here's the question, right because I think there was a definitive moment at the end of this season. Obviously they all hugged Steve Curses. I don't know what's going to happen now. Actually got Draymond weighing in on his podcast. He says, this is the most uncertainty he's felt. The question has to become one. I think we all would agree that the window, the proverbial window is closed. Oh yeah, for this Olden State team, it's been closed. It's been closed for about four years. Okay, so for four years up, if we're going to say boarded up four years it's closed, then this has to be a rebuilt, right, So what does a rebuild look like? That's what I would ask, What does that look like? Do you keep Draymond? Do you keep Steph Curry? 00:12:36 Speaker 1: Like? What is it a total blow up? 00:12:39 Speaker 5: It sounds like if you're bored and shut a window, then everything in there has been condemned, right, So why not just do a total rebuild? 00:12:47 Speaker 3: And let me be specific, I'm saying it's been over because if you look at the way they started off, it's their own standard. When you go to five straight NBA finals, when you win three of those five, like, to me, that's the standard that you've left for yourself. And that's what we consider a dynasty. That's what Steve Kerr, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and even kad like, that's what they're going to be known for, like that series of it. To Jonas's point about twenty twenty one, twenty twenty two, that's kind of been the outlier. Like if you go back to the year before the Bubble Boys season and really since then, they've either missed the playoffs or they've struggled to even get to the conference finals. So you know, it's kind of it's kind of been over with the exception of that one year. And so to answer your question, you know, is it a rebuild yet it's a rebuild, But I think the hard thing for Golden State fans is it feels like they've been trying to get that back. They've been trying to rebuild, and I don't know if you'd say it's a lack of development, if they've just missed on how they've gone about constructing the roster to be able to get the most out of them. If you want to give credits everyone else and say yeah, they've caught up, They've they've mimicked what we started doing back in twenty fourteen and through that twenty eighteen, you know, series of time or span of time, and that's what they've we've gotten to and now it's it's more difficult. We've got to find a different way of winning. Maybe you chalk it up to that, But if I was being critical, I would say that I don't know that they've ever been able to reclaim a lot of the magic they found in first constructing the roster that led them to that early success with Steve Kerr, and I think they've he struggled to find that and then struggling to find that. It feels like at times, you know, injuries have played a Porsche a part of it, obviously, but also you know, not having the same piece as they once had. You know, I don't think they've ever really been able to replace Klay Thompson. And I don't know that you can find, you know, other guys that can really do what Kadi was able to do during that series. So it's going to be a rebuild. In my mind, it's just a Steph and Draymond want to be a part of it. 00:14:53 Speaker 1: Why don't we just do this full circle and bring back Mark Jackson, you know what I mean, Like he was there when they first got there, trying to get this thing going. 00:15:00 Speaker 5: I mean he put the foundational pieces in place. While you're being funny, I. 00:15:05 Speaker 3: Mean all seriousness. Yeah, and that's the team he kind of built. He just took it over. 00:15:09 Speaker 1: Yeah. 00:15:11 Speaker 5: Yeah, and that's that's cat what you just did, Jonas. 00:15:15 Speaker 1: But I will say. 00:15:17 Speaker 5: About that, I think there's well because Mark jacksonly ain't coming back I hear that the idea would what would possibly be to bring in who the coach from Florida if if they didn't bring her back. 00:15:35 Speaker 1: That's the Yeah, that's why I heard some of the reports. Yeah, that's what I heard. Man. 00:15:40 Speaker 3: Can you imagine him in the Bay area? 00:15:42 Speaker 1: Man, that's what I heard. That's that's the rumor. That's that's so distracted. Stay out of those d ms. Man. 00:15:49 Speaker 3: That was gonna say, nobody safe, nobody safe. 00:15:54 Speaker 1: You be careful out there. 00:15:57 Speaker 5: You can coach some basketball, all right, if you had to put money on it. 00:16:02 Speaker 3: It's Steve Cora done. Oh yeah see you okay, so not in gold Stid, but like done done. 00:16:07 Speaker 1: This is it. 00:16:08 Speaker 5: He's not coaching anymore. No, he won't go I don't know that he won't coach you. I mean because you can change your mind. It's no, predicting people is not an exact science. 00:16:17 Speaker 3: So no, but that's what I'm saying, like you change, Jonas would go all in on the one direction he's done, right. 00:16:25 Speaker 5: Yeah, Well, because Jonas is like negative. You know, that was just doom and gloom. 00:16:32 Speaker 1: That was uncalled for. That was just very doom and gloom. What do you mean you came in here, right, you came. It's not comfortable up there? Pick aside, how do you know that it's not comfortable riding of fence? Tried it, it's not comfortable. So I pick aside. He's done, gone, man up and vanish like a fart in the wind. It's over, Steve. 00:16:56 Speaker 7: Win. 00:16:56 Speaker 1: Let me tell you something for those of you, for those of you Yahoo's out there that are like, well, well, hold on to this. So this is a freezing cold take. If he does join a team to coach a team, this will be deleted from the podcast. He dies, I mean he dies. 00:17:12 Speaker 3: It's not like Jonas has made any grand proclamations before about Tony Romo's broadcasting. 00:17:16 Speaker 1: Credits right by him, right, This audience does need to hear the you know, I think they did, jails. 00:17:21 Speaker 3: I'm not sure Mark can find it, but I think they did. 00:17:25 Speaker 1: Mark. Do you have the Jonas Knox he left that. 00:17:29 Speaker 3: It was something about if Tony Romo is more than ten million dollars a year and his in his new contract, something along those lines, Jonas. 00:17:37 Speaker 1: You know what, and based on the current climate, I would say, I'm I was out of my time. So instead of criticizing. Maybe we should give credit where credit is due. 00:17:47 Speaker 3: I don't know what you were head of your time for you said he wouldn't make more than that. He almost made double that a real trend center. 00:17:53 Speaker 5: Yeah, well, let's hear him from him, like, let's get the words from him. 00:17:58 Speaker 1: You got it. Mark. By the way, if Tony Roma gets ten million dollars a year, I'm getting a sex change all right, now, full disclosure. That sounds just like you. That's not even full disclosure. You weren't riding the fencil all then. Let me be clear on this. 00:18:12 Speaker 3: Maybe you were before your time in the sex change department, not after that. 00:18:16 Speaker 1: Maybe you were when. But I would say this because I didn't think that Tony Romo was going to get the deal he got from CBS on his second time around to be a broadcaster. And I was wrong, And as it turns out, Tony Romo reset the market. And so now everybody thanks Tony Romo for that deal. So but look, that's completely taken out of context. And what we're not going to let some you know, some passing comment on a on a Sunday night radio show infiltrate this here professional broadcast to where you guys try and get me to go down a lane I don't want to go. 00:18:49 Speaker 5: That was a rehearsed bit. It was not a rehearse pit. That was what you're saying. We rehearsed, not a rehearse bit. You looked in your mirror before you came in to do the show. You you rehearsed it, not like this is what I'm going to hit him with when Brady. 00:19:01 Speaker 1: Hits me with it. For anybody that recalled, it was good. For anybody that recalls that Sunday night show, there was not a lot of rehearsal done. It was a wild well it's supposed to be well, you know, I mean we would have people call in who were just butchered listening all over the country trying to avoid having to wake up for work the next day. Uh. Just it was a mess. Man. 00:19:24 Speaker 3: I fell out of my chair on the the It was the Viking Saints in Minnesota stuff. 00:19:30 Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, we caught the uh that that uh it was Mark Marcus Williams who uh tackled a ghost and then Stefan Diggs ran and scored and we're on there. Brady lost. 00:19:42 Speaker 3: I literally leaned back because I like I grabbed, I fell back out and and suddenly I choked on a cigarette. 00:19:47 Speaker 1: Kind of laughing. It was so bad. Yeah, there's a lot going on during that time slot. But you know, here we are, and let me tell you something about what's what's going to be happening here on this network because there's a lot going on Thursday night because it's the Draft, the NFL Draft, and Fox Sports Radio's Draft Night Live is this Thursday at eight pm Eastern Time throughout the first round of the Draft. Hey, apparently we could have ourselves a reunion in the world of football. The Giants apparently worked out Odell Beckham Junior, and so there's a thought that they might go ahead and rekindle this old flame and bring back Obj to the Giants to start maybe catching touchdown passes from Jackson Dart there at MetLife Stadium and be fired up and ready to go. Who says you can't go back to an old friend. And apparently Obj and the Giants might actually this might actually happen again. Who to thunk it? 00:23:41 Speaker 3: Did Giants fans want this? I mean, I'd look at this and I say, all right, how does this make sense? I don't believe he started a game in three years. He set out last season right, and then the season before he caught with nine balls for like fifty five yards of Miami. I just I feel like the version of him that he once was for the Giants is a long time ago, and this is a young team, new coach. I'm just trying to figure out how this makes sense. Now, Maybe you want a veteran guy who works his tail off. I mean, that's the one thing about Obj no one will ever question. He's got an incredible work ethic. I think, for you know, a lot of people out there, he does the right things when he's in the facility, and I think a lot of the drama maybe outside of it. Maybe I've missed some stuff, but it feels like it's not as much there anymore. So maybe that's why it makes some sense, or it's at least worth kicking the tires on. But again, he's a long long ways from what he once was, back when he was at his pride for this organization. 00:24:49 Speaker 5: I don't I think it's a I think it's a conversation because OBJ was such a a gravitation pool for the sport for a moment in time. His catch in prime time against Dallas, right, I mean, it couldn't have been a better setup to become a megastar. We talked about Steph Curry earlier on in the show. I don't know at this point now the relevance of OBJ probably has has subsided so much, but he changed the way receivers play receiver like he Oh my god, if I had to tell you how many times I had to tell a guy stop trying to catch the ball with one hand, If I could tell you the amount of times I heard coaches say the same exact thing. It would blow your mind. He totally revolutionized which, by the way, Chris Carter was doing it for a long time, Randy Mods was doing There's a few guys that were doing it. 00:26:02 Speaker 1: But OBJ made it a. 00:26:05 Speaker 5: It was a movement like it turned, it turned into its own thing, and now nobody has a problem. It's actually celebrated, like look at him. 00:26:16 Speaker 1: He caught it. 00:26:17 Speaker 5: Like it's almost even common now to see guys catch the ball with one hand. Now it's like, how do you catch the ball? As if you could imagine you could outdo Obj's one hand to catch has been outdone by other one hand to catches since that's happened. So I think the relevance of OBJ is connected to him having a moment in time that that kind of crystallized how we viewed OBJ. He became a larger than life figure. His brand was larger than football. It went beyond the parameters of football. But in terms of football wise fellas looking at it where it's at now, that's more sentimental value more than anything else, because I think at this point, I mean, he didn't even play a snap of football last year and if you guys recall, I believe he has a situation with PDS. 00:27:10 Speaker 1: So he you know, he's trying to to capture was he on the gas? Let's see he did. Let's see O B J P E D S. All right, let me look at that. Listen. 00:27:23 Speaker 5: All I'm saying is is that he's trying to capture a fountain that you probably still loves playing the game. I got six games, doesn't want to stop playing the game, and and I. 00:27:32 Speaker 1: Just elevated testosterone levels. 00:27:36 Speaker 3: Speculate, Jonas, what do you think it was? Come on this stuff? 00:27:40 Speaker 1: No one? 00:27:40 Speaker 3: No one loves when guys test positive for PDS. 00:27:43 Speaker 1: Oh yeah, because I'm I just harkened back to the old days, the good old days when you would just meet up with some random guy who had a brown paper bag with the goods in it. You give him some cash, and next thing you know, you got a need on your ASSA literally gassed to the gills. 00:27:57 Speaker 3: Jonas also believes that the oil old change they did in the movie The Program, if you recall, yeah, he still thinks that goes on. So I mean, like, actually, was a Bill Romanowski room they're giving an oil change? 00:28:12 Speaker 1: That did say Bill suitcase. 00:28:15 Speaker 3: That's that's what Jonas thinks that you were doing the night before game. 00:28:19 Speaker 1: Never, it's like never used. 00:28:22 Speaker 5: Yeah, look, although I feel like I rethink it, like if I could have done it all over again, maybe I should have. Man, you know, you start to hear things after you've retired, You start to learn about what what people's habits were. 00:28:34 Speaker 1: Can you use peptides in the NFL? Is that is that banned there as well too? I'm pretty sure. I'm pretty I think I think it is. I think it's banned. But there's a lot of people who look at it and go, why it's a big thing right now? Pepe anyways, and and even getting off on talking about this at this point, no offense to to him, but as it applies to being a relevant I mean, you just on him a drug addict. No, I didn't. 00:29:02 Speaker 5: I was just I was just stating factual information of the fact that he didn't play last year. 00:29:10 Speaker 1: And he was using pds. I mean, he popped for PDS. 00:29:14 Speaker 5: I wasn't you know, if you ain't ain't trying. I mean, that's what they say was that when he got kicked off the flight, I mean that flight there, that that happened. 00:29:26 Speaker 1: What was this? He was just tired. He didn't want to wait, well, they was trying to wake him up. He didn't want to be bothered. 00:29:31 Speaker 5: You know, you put your headphones on, you go under your your deal and they're like, listen, we got to be able to see your your seatbelt, and you have to be responsive when we need you to be responsive. 00:29:42 Speaker 3: So in his defense, by the way, if someone takes like an ambient or something, I feel like I've never done that, but I feel like you'd be pretty songs. 00:29:50 Speaker 5: I had because I have a horrible back, And yes, you are sleep. You are sleep, and you might not even realize somebody's trying to wake you up, but yes, be into which is that's a great point because they were putting it on the fact that they thought that he had a substance and this, that and the other and bla, and that's. 00:30:08 Speaker 1: Why he was Maybe he stacked the ambience or whatever you call it. What test I mean, that's what you tripped out. Man. I hope it works out for him if he gets the opportunity. 00:30:17 Speaker 5: To retire as as a giant, like that'd be cool because that's where it all started for him. Like I said, he is one of the more polarizing figures that has played in the National Football League. 00:30:30 Speaker 1: Got his super Bowl. You know, he was able to get a super Bowl. 00:30:34 Speaker 3: You just you hope he's not getting in a fight with a kicking net some of the things. 00:30:38 Speaker 1: That we saw in He's probably beyond that, you know. 00:30:42 Speaker 3: I hope. I mean, I don't think we need that for a young quarterback. With Jackson Dart. 00:30:46 Speaker 5: Yeah, that there was some classic battles between him and Josh Norman great and then sometimes they carried over to the kicking net and the kicking Yeah, I mean, he wanted that smoke with everybody. But you know, he's probably older, wiser now obviously it's fighting to keep that that testosterone level up so that he can actually get after that kicking net if he wanted to. 00:31:13 Speaker 1: Now, I think this also shows that there was some real value in that flag football game. You know, I think, oh, that's your that's your angle. That's interesting. Yeah, that's where that's where they really figured out that hey, this guy still got it. And and by the way, if you didn't see it, don't worry. You were just filled to the brim on social media with OBJ highlights. They made a concerted effort to try and get that out there and pump highlights from that game out and his highlight was one of the ones that made the rounds. There also Tom Brady's elusiveness in that flag football game, and I think it speaks volumes to the value of flag football and why I think that it's a key member of the football discussion. 00:31:53 Speaker 5: You know, can I throw this one out at you guys? He is and I've talked about how influential he is. He's super influential. Do who are they trying to reel in and get the most out of on that Giants team at the receiver's position, Neighbors, right, So is that an angle? You know, Malik Neighbors is an LSU alum and star receiver. From there, they consider themselves DBU and white receiver. You maybe maybe the idea is you kill two birds with one stone. You're able to bring OBJ back home to finish out his career, and you talked about how hard he works and how good of an influence he could be. I mean, maybe the idea of it is is you bring them in to make sure that Malik Neighbors is getting that guidance and maybe is getting that help. You got a new head coach and Harball there, Maybe Harball like seeing what we saw is Zay Flowers kind of throw him under the bus a little bit. Maybe maybe he's looking at it from the perspective of, you know, having player leaders and that con minimize what he has to do. Maybe that could be the potential of what what the idea of thinking this could possibly work would be. But I don't see him coming in and being, you know, a guy that's going to change the fortunes of your offense or of your team at this point. 00:33:14 Speaker 1: I mean, with the way he plays offense, gonna have a lot of swag though. Yeah, they'd have that with him and Scataboo and Jackson Dart. They have that going on there now. 00:33:25 Speaker 3: Scataboo could be at the front of the line bopping right absolutely. 00:33:29 Speaker 5: Scataboo was walking up hitting his head off of the wall when he was in college. 00:33:34 Speaker 1: They showed a video of that. 00:33:35 Speaker 3: He just he Yeah, he might be listening to like heavy metal, though he might be more in like Jonas's genre music. I don't know that he'd be bopping to like. 00:33:43 Speaker 5: You know, I don't know what he would be listening to he just a little fear Factory or Pantera. He just wanted them dudes, man, Mara hate Breed. You just love to love him because he has that heat, puts that Yeah, it's a real band. He fits that profile, like he fits the profile. 00:34:05 Speaker 3: How do you if you listen to a band named hate Breed, how do you justify that to yourself? Yeah, that's a great quob I mean, you know, like it kind of starts with a what's the name of this band? 00:34:17 Speaker 1: Hate Breed? I'm out. Well, it's like one of those things you just say back to yourself out loud and go really like, I remember, what was that HBO show, the one with the vampires, True Blood or that show I never watched. I never watched either, but I had my roommates try and convince me at the time to watch it, and I was like, so, let me get this straight. This is about some vampires and some not vampires who take over a diner in Louisiana. Like, yeah, I'm good, I'm not interested in that. So, yeah, it's one of those band names where you look at and you got yeah, I don't know. 00:34:52 Speaker 5: But but the fact that you just pulled it right out like off the top of your head, like is kind of band. 00:34:57 Speaker 1: I think Jamie Josto was the lead singer. You hosted a show on MTV for a while. 00:35:02 Speaker 5: And that's your thing. Clear, I just know that. But no, you don't just know that that's your thing. It's got to be your thing. Well, I mean they're not my favorite band, but that's your genre. 00:35:13 Speaker 1: That's what you like. No, I like all sorts of stuff, everything from Ramstein to Beethoven. 00:35:19 Speaker 5: You know you name it all right, Name another composer other than Beethoven, Mozart outside of those two exactly like you was running off like every heavy metal band ever to play. 00:35:35 Speaker 1: I mean, look, you know it's where we're talking about music here. I mean, hate Breed, hate Breed, Beethoven. What do you want? It's the same thing. It's a difference. Johnny Cash. Johnny Cash. By the way, Brady used to call me back when I was winning a bunch of bets on DraftKings. 00:35:53 Speaker 3: He used to call me never won any any bets. 00:35:57 Speaker 1: Brady used to be if you Knoxtra Damis. 00:36:02 Speaker 3: You'd be better off just donating all your have, every opportunity or every time you think yourself I should bet on this. You should just donate that money. You would do a lot of good in the world. 00:36:11 Speaker 1: Jonas. 00:36:12 Speaker 3: Yeah, well, look, if I mean Draftking gets it instead of them, why don't you figure out some charities or something. 00:36:18 Speaker 1: And we're working on it. You know, you know, drop because you're not gonna win any money with it. Drop a few pass in the donation. Why are you going to man, what do you want? It's a home game for me. They're lying around everything you really has. Uh, there's somewhere yeah, what hey, man, you tripped out. As we are waxing poetically here on this Tuesday morning talking all things NBA with the playoffs and Steve Kerr and what the hell is going to happen there. Billy Donovan just walked away from the Bulls job. He has resigned as head coach. So now we continue the journey on. We're going to hopefully catch up with our guy Bruce Feldman here who does a deep dive before the draft to get the feedback from scouts executives about what the feeling is on some of these prospects with the NFL Draft coming up, and Bruce really connected and does a really good job of gathering this information, a true deep dive if you're a football nerd and you want to find out the ins and outs of this draft, like he's broken down just about every angle and every position there is, so look for. 00:40:10 Speaker 3: One of the coolest things Bruce does is he's got the Freaks List that usually comes out before every college football season, and it's basically he kind of paints out a light on just the freaky athleticism you'll see from a lot of the different players. Could be strength, it could be a movement, could be explosion, whatever it is. He finds a way of tapping into that talking to a lot of the different college coaching staves, et cetera. But this time of year, what's need is he then applies that same approach talking to a lot of the NFL teams and some of the coaching stabs and some of the front office folks about what they see in these players and so a lot of that stuff. You know, if you follow them for the college game, you'll see some of those same names pop up too, that are that freaky athleticism that you're looking for at the next level. 00:40:52 Speaker 1: So let's welcome in. He is Bruce Feldman. You see him on Fox, you can read him at the Athletic best Selling Author, and you can get him on X at Bruce Feldman CFB. Bruce, thanks so much for the time. How are we doing doing great? 00:41:06 Speaker 8: Good to be hon with you guys. 00:41:07 Speaker 1: Thanks for having me absolutely all right, So what goes into the anonymous NFL draft intel? So, like, tell when does the process start for you and how long does it take you to gather this information to put this together? Because it's awesome, Yeah, thank you. 00:41:22 Speaker 8: It really starts at the Combine. I go every year. I love going to it, and you know, as you guys know, it's like a lot of college coaches are now coaching in the NFL. Wasn't that long ago, like Mike McDonald was, you know, I think Brady and hour around him when he was when he was Michigan's defensive coordinator, you know, and it's like, so you see a lot of that. So it's helped me where, you know, I know, it's a ton of guys now who are working in the NFL, and so I start really just kind of talking to different people at the Combine, but really it rams up over the last two weeks because at the Combine, honestly, at that point, unless you're unless they're the scouts, that they're the really the position coaches. I'm not sure how much digging they've done some interviews, but that's you know, like it really picks up over the really in the last two weeks. And so you know, one of the best guys I talked to for this, it's a dB coach. I didn't get. We didn't end up sinking up till Sunday morning, and by that point a lot of the piece was written but I was like, all right, we got to make room for this guy, because it's just there's just a ton of great insight that these guys have on things. And it's interesting because like there'll be more than a handful of guys like Keldrick Fauchus certainly won fits in this category where their twenty twenty four film is better than the twenty twenty five film. You know, it's just how guys are used. There's just a lot that goes into it. It's not you know, they're not always going to be right, but their perspective is really fascinating to hear about Bruce. 00:42:51 Speaker 3: Who are you most curious or maybe even excited to see where he gets drafted coming up starting Thursday. 00:43:00 Speaker 8: You know, I'm interested to see what where Jeremiah Love goes. You know, I'm not just saying it because obviously he's another name guy now, but like, to me, he is so much better than anybody else at this position. You look at what you know, he had less carries in the last two years combined than Ashton Genty did in his last year at Boise State. You know, there's a fair one of the personnel directors I talked to in the NFL. Was like, man, I didn't think he was jan but then you look he runs, you know, with more violence. He is that explosive. He's a he's a great pass protector, he could be a receiver. Like I just think he's he's a phenomenal player. It's not to say there aren't going to be other good running backs in the draft, but I just think, I know running backs typically are not going in the top five range unless people think they're really special. I think he's really special, and I don't think this is a you know, I'd say there was like three guys outside of him that I feel like, really really confident in rbl Reeves from Ohio State. I like David Bailey, you know, but then it's really really on on love. I just think he's going to be such a fun player to watch in the NFL. 00:44:12 Speaker 5: I think it's a great segue to the LB position. Rbs are not generally very highly valued. We had this conversation on the show maybe I don't know, not maybe yesterday, maybe last week, Bruce, but I'm curious, is the linebacker position off the ball linebacker position, because I know you're high on on Lorenzo Styles is is that a position that's becoming a luxury pick versus being a priority pick and in the early round. 00:44:47 Speaker 8: Yeah, I just think we're not seeing as many guys like the LeVar, so like the game has changed a lot. But then you talk to coaches in the NFL and they're like, you know, and this comes up a lot when we're talking about edge rushers too, where it's like now guys are running the football to run the football. They're not just running to set up the run. So it's like, as you know, it's like it's it's pretty cyclical. But like Sunny Styles, I mean when you see him, he looks just way different. I mean he was actually a safety for a little while in Ohio State, but just you know, crazy range and athleticism, like he was as much of a freakless guy as I've had really good player has grown into the position. You know, I don't want to say like some of the thundersman was stolen by r bell Reese because he's just had such a spectacular first season as a starter. But then you talk to coaches and they're like, you know, there are other good off ball linebackers in there, right, it's just his traits are crazy, you know, to see what he can do, and you start to sit back and wonder, Okay, how does this guy, you know, how will he be utilized? But then there's you know, there's guys that I've talked to are like, you know, there's probably it's not a bad draft for linebackers. Yes, he is the headliner, but then you get some really other, you know, good guys. Jacob Rodriguez was the guy a Texas Tech had a fantastic twenty twenty five season. They spent a lot of money on the d line. He was able to roam the ball like finds him or he finds it at an incredibly high rate. You know, it's just it's it's very I think there's gonna be guys you can get in there. Jake Goldey started his career out at Central Arkansas, went to Cincinnati. Really high level guy c Allen from Georgia, really productive player who ran better than people thought. Like it's a I think it's a it's a pretty good draft. But you have one guy who I think people look at and go, oh, he's really intriguing, just because the length and the athleticism is off the charts. 00:46:46 Speaker 1: Bruce Feldman, reporter for the Athletic Fox College Football Insider with us here on the Dan Patrick Show. It is two pros and a cup of Joe filling and for Dan and the guys here on FSR, I'm curious. So Fernando Mendoz, Obviously it's a foe gone inclusion at this point, he's going to go number one over all of the Raiders. Have you in talking to anybody, was there pushback on Yeah, we're not sold on him because of this. It seems like he says all the right things, you know, last year when as well as could possibly go. But what sort of flaws have people discussed with you in Fernando and potentially his fit at the NFL. 00:47:24 Speaker 8: I think he's going to be a little bit of you know, it's going to be a learning curve. 00:47:28 Speaker 1: Now. 00:47:28 Speaker 8: It's fortunate they signed Kirk Cousins, but I think one of the coaches I talked to said, you know, he really only threw from under center like three snaps, so the footwork will will be an adjustment. But we've heard great things about his work ethic and his intelligence. The other things that I think bothe really well for him is he He's incredibly resilient and you see them as like he threw a pick against Iowa late in the game, tough place to play, bounce back immediately throws you know, leads him on a touchdown draft throws a pick six at Oregon next series, comes back, leads him on a touchdown drive. We remember the great you know, play to beat Penn State at the end when they were look like they were going to lose that game. Take some take some big shots against Miami and finds a way to you know, run the ball in from ten yards out when uh, you know Signette was thinking of of kicking a field goal. I just think that that the toughness, because nobody doubts that he will stand in the pocket and take big shots. I think from a the one the maybe the biggest pause. I think people look at it's the first pick of the draft, and typically I think people are saying there's some elite, wow trait. And I don't know if people like his arm. I don't know if they you know, it's not Josh Allen's arm, but there's only a few of those out there. It's like justin Herbert and uh and you know, Mahomes and I don't know how much deeper the list goes. But like I had one personnel director who's pretty eye up who was like, you know, because I asked him. I was like, if he's in the same draft with Caleb and Drake May And he was like, you know, Drake May is you know, really talented. Drake May had you know, some growing to do when he got there. He said, I feel more confident about Fernando coming out than I did about Drake. 00:49:13 Speaker 1: That's it. 00:49:13 Speaker 8: I didn't like Drake, but I really like Fernando. The more he's seen, the more he's heard. But again, you know, the offense is a little different and there's going to be some learning curve, but he's got time and we know he's a really good, you know, good student. We'll see, you know. It's quarterbacks are the hardest thing to evaluate coming out of college for NFL teams, and I can see why, you know, it's like it's not a good draft, but I can see why the why the Raiders have. 00:49:39 Speaker 1: To take them. Do you have horror feelings towards Mendoza? 00:49:43 Speaker 8: Do I know. 00:49:46 Speaker 1: You didn't make it personal? No personal for me, I. 00:49:50 Speaker 5: Mean for those who don't know you. You are a hurricane, right, you are? 00:49:54 Speaker 1: You guy? 00:49:55 Speaker 8: I went to Miami, but I you know, okay. 00:49:59 Speaker 5: I was just making sure, you know, you might have it might have hurt you. 00:50:04 Speaker 3: He's giggling now. But there was no one worse than Bear and Bruce out the course of the season. As things went on, obviously, Chris Felika the Bear and Bruce to Miami guys. I want to ask you this, Bruce, where would you put Mendoza? Knowing what we know now about the quarterbacks who are draft eligible for next year, where'd you rank him among that group? 00:50:25 Speaker 8: A good question, you know, because we that like I feel like, we get to this time of the year and it's always like, wait till you see who's going to be next year? Well, the next year class turned out to not be very strong right now. The guys we thought might be good weren't. But this is a going to feel like it's a deep group, you know, like Dante more a lot. I think he made a smart move by staying at Oregon to get more time on task and more reps and physically developed. Very intrigued by arch I think he grew a lot as the year went on. I remember there was a lot of you know, inexperience around him, and I think that was a smart move by him. Leonoris Sellers, this is year three of it's you know, Leonoris is really big, really fast, strong arm, really smart, love all that. But it's the third year in a new system, you know, now so and we'll see how it works with Kendall Briles there at South Carolina. But he's really talented, you know. I think there's a bunch of dudes, you know, like Brady. I don't know how you feel about this, but like see get car I think we all love them. I mean, and think there's a ton of talent. Is if they have a really big year. Does he leave already? You know, I mean it's two. 00:51:33 Speaker 3: Years of starting and I would go and say his tape is better than anyone else that I would. I mean, I know people think it's biased because I'm notre Dame. It's just I've watched all these kids. There's no one in my mind who translates better than him based on what I've seen as far as the ability to make all the throws, to layer throws, to drive throws, but also to create. Like if you just think he's a pocket passer. That's where he's gonna get you because he's gonna create, he's gonna try to find ways of his scaping and then hitting you downfield. And that's why if they have the season I think they're going to have this year, he'd be hard pressed not to. But I can understand why you'd want to stay back again as well. But he's in that category of guys, like I'm running down names, well, Trinidad Chamlas. You didn't mention him yet, Brent Soresby. I know he was part of the article. We haven't mentioned him yet. I mean when you go to Jade Mayavk. 00:52:23 Speaker 8: You see physical trades. Yeah, it's Trinidad is a little smaller. I think he's smaller than people see, you know. 00:52:29 Speaker 3: Like and he plays bigger than his size though. 00:52:32 Speaker 8: Yeah, and he just almost plays like a like a basketball player. He's like kind of just smooth, he moves and he's really accurate. I mean, I don't know. 00:52:42 Speaker 3: I mean, he's Josh Indiana. He got paid a lot of money. Yeah, Like I probably have twelve guys that I think it have huge years that we're talking about consideration for like the first couple rounds. 00:52:56 Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean look, the CJ to me is a wild card because he's still twenty and he's going to turn twenty one soon. You just because he feels like he you know, it's a first year as a starter, but two years especially, you know, if they go into the playoffs, then you're playing fourteen games, you know, like that's whatever, twenty seven twenty you know, twenty six twenty seven games as a starter. Like, I definitely think he's a first round guy. Whenever he goes it's just like, does he go in this well, you know, it's it's it's a crystal ball kind of thing. But there are so many guys we didn't even mention Keller goes to LSU, Well, he'd be a guy who ends up flashing. You know, he led Arizona State to the playoff. Sorsby's a trades guy, like I think, physically, there's a lot to like we'll see how he you know, picks up the offense and and cleans up. But he's he's very talented. Every everybody I know who watched him, they go ooh, he's really intriguing because he's he's bigger than you think, he's probably faster than you think, and his arm has got plenty of horsepower. So let's see what he does at Texas Tech. I mean, you know, we didn't a suit in Mayava, Mayava from Yes, he's got some ability to so take. 00:54:03 Speaker 3: Into account that, like all the guys that you've seen this far, like how does that factor in the Mendoza and like what he would look like, because that's what teams have to figure out. That not necessary for him because Las Vegas is going in that direction, but every single year teams have to figure that out for teams that are looking at ty Simpson or looking at whoever else would be considered for that next quarterback in this year's draft. 00:54:22 Speaker 8: Yeah, I think that, man, unless you talked yourself into Ty Simpson one year as a starter, they didn't really have a run game and it kind of showed like Ty Simpson Garrett Nussmeyer, I think those guys, they're both coaches kids, coaches who worked up at a high level who I think will be on NFL rosters for a long time. I just don't know if you would sit there and go, oh, we're gonna put the chips in the table now to take to trade back into the first round, to take him before somebody else might when you know there's a big haul coming next year. Because even if like sixty percent of those guys that we just mentioned either don't get in the draft or don't like look really good in twenty twenty six, the odds are that like four of them will because we just mentioned like twelve, and you know, unless there's a big injury with CJ. Carr, unless there's an injury with Dante More or an injury with arch, I don't think people are gonna go, Yeah, I don't feel as good about him as I do about Ty Simpson as one year starter. 00:55:30 Speaker 5: I gotta ask this, just listening to the way you guys interacted on this topic in particular, guys, are I mean you covered pre nil era, Now you're in the nil era. Guys are not only being looked at as top prospects to go into the draft, they're being looked at as top prospects by other schools. So I'm curious for you where you're at now in your coverage and how you see things kind of unfolding. How much of a factor does that play into, you know, all of these conversations, like we might not see one of these guys go into the draft next year because they might feel like there's a better opportunity to potentially I don't know what it is. Maybe it's win a national title. Uh, maybe it's the amount of money that they would get versus going into the league. I'm not sure, but that's where this is all going. How are you you know, how's that impacted the conversations that you had with this changing landscape of college football? 00:56:32 Speaker 8: Well, it's a real it's a real thing now, right So now, Ty Simpson sounds like he did turn down considerable amount of money from Miami to put his name in the draft. Darian Mensa took the money. Darian mens is a guy we haven't mentioned yet, you know, being down in Miami like a week ago watching practice. You know, they feel like he's like a cross between Carson Beck and cam Ward and with the positives of both, which I think he's another guy in the discussion. But if you're getting four million dollars, you know for a year to be a college football player, there's not a lot of guys who are going to get that. I mean, like look at Sam Hartman. Sam Hartman probably got a lot more money and opportunity because he went to Notre Dame and then all of a sudden, people you know, like, I don't know if anybody realized Sam Hartman was a good looking guy. He was when he was in the ACC, but when he got the Notre Dame and he became a huge, high profile program. I think there's a lot of other opportunities to come with it, right, So it's not just the NIL where oh, some big bunny boosters are funneling money to the starting quarterback now all of a sudden, It's like when when Caleb was at USC when Bryce Young was at Alabama. I think from what I heard, the big money they were getting was corporate, right. It was one of them had like United, another one had you know, that's the Doctor Pepper money. I'm guessing you know, dj U, who started out his career Clemson form five star, probably ended up with a lot more money from from Doctor Pepper than he did, you know, in professional football at this point. And so I think there's going to be those guys who are like, oh, I might be a fourth or fifth round pick. The other thing to keep in mind, and obviously you guys played football, you know, played in the NFL, was when they're doing these nil deals. Some of these agents, the nil agents, they're taking twenty percent as opposed to what you were getting. You know what, you guys were probably paying your agents when you were in the NFL. So think about the what the conversations and how they're being told about, like oh, why you should come back? You know, well there's a if I'm an agent and I'm getting this, you know, like my client is getting the same amount of money, but I'm getting twenty percent of it as opposed to three. Like where's their self interest going to be to try to motivate you to go play college football for one more year? You know they're going to shop you around, And so I think that factors. I don't think it factors into it with all the kids, but I do think it factors into it with some of the kids because I've heard enough stories of that happening. 00:59:07 Speaker 1: He is Bruce Feldman college football reporter for The Athletic and you see him on Fox as well too. So he's going to Chicago, que Sedona. 01:00:43 Speaker 2: I had to. 01:00:44 Speaker 1: I had to do it too soon.
