What about Max Crosby and who's going to be the second pick in the draft with the Jets on the clock eight seven to seven three, DP Show Email address DP at Danpatrick dot com, Twitter handle at DP show. Good morning if you're watching on Peacock or the NBC Sports Network and download the app if you haven't done so, to watch on Peacock. We say good morning to our radio affiliates, including iHeartRadio, and Fox Sports Radio Seaton Poll question from our one final results. 00:01:13 Speaker 4: Yeah, we got three of them right now, Which are you more looking forward to from this year's combine? 00:01:18 Speaker 5: Hand size or arm length? Hand size? 00:01:19 Speaker 4: At sixty one percent of that vote, do you know the length of your arms? Eighty two percent say no? And would you rather have small hands or short arms? Small hands? 00:01:30 Speaker 5: Right now? Fifty two percent of that vote, people would rather have small hands. 00:01:33 Speaker 2: All right. These are the kind of questions you expect here on the Dan Patricks. 00:01:37 Speaker 4: We cover things like this better than anybody. I could say that confidently. I don't think there are too many shows stealing this stuff. You know, they wish they could, but you can't. Yeah, you can't do it this good? 00:01:48 Speaker 2: Yeah, you know. We just come in with a great script, we follow the script, and we do it for three hours. I'm still amazed that people think that this is scripted. When I was at the Mothership, you could say that it was scripted because I had to check the boxes every day when we were doing radio, and I vowed that I wouldn't do that again. I'm very appreciative of having that platform at ESPN for all those years to do radio. 00:02:16 Speaker 3: But when I left. 00:02:17 Speaker 2: I said, I'm going to do a show the way I want to do a show and having fun, still covering sports, but do it in a way that is more reflective of my personality instead of the personality of my bosses. 00:02:31 Speaker 6: Yes, Paul, we have a light plan of topics. But for example, yesterday, a minute before the show starts, you're walking into the room and you go, you watched that Texas Tech game last night? 00:02:41 Speaker 7: Do you hear the rims? Like, yeah, I did hear the rims? 00:02:43 Speaker 6: And then you started there, yes, and it went and that's the flexibility we had. 00:02:48 Speaker 2: And then it kind of morphed into the worst sounds in sports and then best sounds in sports. But it's fun. I mean, I got to admit. There are days when we come in and we go, what are we going to talk about? And I go, I have no idea, and all of a sudden, music starts, the bells, and then here we go. You got to fill up three hours every single day. But you know, you walk into a bar and you see your friends and you have a good time. It's kind of the filling. 00:03:15 Speaker 8: How do you talk sports at three hours every day? That's ridiculous. 00:03:18 Speaker 2: Thank you, Tod all right, Uh, do we want to update the poll? 00:03:22 Speaker 9: One rockets? 00:03:24 Speaker 7: Move on. 00:03:27 Speaker 4: That's just sort of back to that Jeopardy question that we had. Whereas like we do well in one category, they do well in all of those. 00:03:33 Speaker 2: Yes, Todd, did you ever correspond with those two girls that you met in Santa Monica? 00:03:40 Speaker 9: I did. With the younger one. She wanted to send ssaki. 00:03:42 Speaker 8: I don't know if she. I think they did they started their own socks. 00:03:45 Speaker 3: I don't know the younger one. They both looked young. 00:03:48 Speaker 5: Which is the one that liked you? Which is the one that didn't like you? 00:03:50 Speaker 10: The older one didn't care for me. Here's the one that said, how could you talk about sports? 00:03:54 Speaker 9: And who's the one? 00:03:55 Speaker 10: Why did they have your picture on this girl's shirt? The younger one that I was talking to more seem to have more of a personality and less of the valley girl thing. Sorry, just called it as they see it. She's the one that like, they started a saki company and she wanted to send some to the studio. She seemed more like chatty and fun. Okay, I like chatty fun people. 00:04:12 Speaker 4: What type of pun did you reply with when you heard how it was a saki company, did you say, Oh. 00:04:19 Speaker 10: Yeah, she was talking about it at length and was pitching it too much. I think I said, put Asaki in. 00:04:22 Speaker 5: It, and. 00:04:24 Speaker 8: She liked that sound. I'm just joking and she walked away rightfully. 00:04:27 Speaker 2: So, well, that's your charm though, you know you, I can just see once you know that somebody wants to talk to you, and then it's on. 00:04:34 Speaker 10: But the problem is I don't pick up those social cues when they go anyway, and I'm like, and then I start continuing to talk like that could mean that they want to move on to somebody else. 00:04:42 Speaker 2: We were leaving the bar Big Deans in Santa Monica. We were leaving a couple of times, and you just chatting away. 00:04:49 Speaker 10: And she said, well, it's nice to meet you. When she's getting up and I'm following her to the next part of the bar, what are you doing? 00:04:54 Speaker 8: What am I doing? 00:04:55 Speaker 3: And you don't even drink, You're just sitting there. 00:04:57 Speaker 2: And you found somebody who had a sympathetic ear and was familiar with the show. 00:05:03 Speaker 10: Trying out my dad material oh my god, uncomfortably laughing to try to make me feel better. 00:05:07 Speaker 3: And then her sister was just not having it. 00:05:10 Speaker 8: Four two reds what not that you're talking about that it's crazy. 00:05:15 Speaker 2: Pistons beat the thunder Okay see without five of its top six scorers and their sixth highest score left at halftime. He got hurt. Spurs beat the Raptors San Antonio, first double digit winning streak since twenty fifteen. They won ten in a row, and DeMar DeRozan he had fifteen points in the King's loss against the Rockets. The reason why I bring it up he is now twentieth on the all time scoring list. Stat of the day, sat of the day, stead of the day, stat of the day? 00:05:55 Speaker 8: Here comes that? 00:05:56 Speaker 3: What stat of the day? All right? Paul say it? 00:06:02 Speaker 7: Okay, you and I have talked about this. 00:06:04 Speaker 6: DeMar derozen is a very good basketball player, has been for a long time. I'm assuming he's going to the Hall of Fame someday based off his career. 00:06:12 Speaker 2: I think if you got twenty six thousand points, you're in. I'm gonna guess he moved past John Hablchek and Paul Pierce. 00:06:19 Speaker 6: Is there a less exciting game of a surefire Hall of Famer or a guy going to the Hall of Fame? 00:06:26 Speaker 3: Joe Johnson didn't go into the Hall of Fame. 00:06:30 Speaker 6: In our Hall of Fame, he would be. 00:06:31 Speaker 9: I don't know. 00:06:32 Speaker 3: Do you think he's going to the Hall of Fame mark the one in Springfield? Yeah, for sure. 00:06:37 Speaker 1: You know. 00:06:37 Speaker 11: Do you know who's been in the Hall of Fame recently? And I do not want to do this because it's not nice. But there's some guys with no All Star appearances that are in Springfield. 00:06:45 Speaker 9: Who Michael Cooper. 00:06:49 Speaker 3: But he played for the Lakers, but he won championships. 00:06:53 Speaker 2: Oh, I'm with you. So I mean that's Draymond Green. That that's an ensemble induction. That's where you go. It's not just McCartney and Lennon, it's also Ringo and George Harrison. 00:07:06 Speaker 7: Ringo, is Michael Cooper? 00:07:07 Speaker 9: That's new? 00:07:08 Speaker 6: Yes, Joe Johnson quickly he went to six straight All Star Games, seven total. 00:07:15 Speaker 9: That's a nice number. 00:07:17 Speaker 6: But again, his game, like when they showed the highlight package in Springfield, Yeah. 00:07:22 Speaker 2: Nobody's gonna go, oh my god, ooh, it's gonna be mid range jumper, mid range jumper, mid range jumper. 00:07:33 Speaker 3: Yes, Marvin Yeah. 00:07:34 Speaker 11: A basketball Hall of Fame. Sorry to go offrom a little tangent. Iconic players, iconic teams, that's what it is. If you are a part of the eighty three six ers, if you're Mo Cheeks and Bobby Jones, you're in. If you're Casey Jones, Sam Jones, Tommy Hinsen on the sixty Celtics, you're in. 00:07:48 Speaker 3: I'm okay with it. Yeah, same, I mean I. 00:07:52 Speaker 2: Now, Demarty Rosen is not an exciting player. But young Damar, Young Damar. He had a few years. 00:07:59 Speaker 6: He went to three straight All Star Games in Toronto and twenty three points, twenty seven points, twenty three points, and he did it all without shooting threes. 00:08:07 Speaker 3: Based Well, I know that's mid range jumper. 00:08:10 Speaker 6: Is he SGA before SGA? 00:08:14 Speaker 2: Marvin SGA? 00:08:16 Speaker 12: Light? 00:08:17 Speaker 9: What aout? The athleticism, no offense? 00:08:20 Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, Todd. 00:08:21 Speaker 10: Why do we think there is such a generosity or lack of angst around who to put into the Basketball Hall of Fame. 00:08:26 Speaker 8: There's no shortage of candidates. It's like we only have eleven people over the lest twenty years in the Hall of Fame. We better stop putting people in that may not deserve it. 00:08:33 Speaker 2: Okay, you know where I stand with this. Christian Letner is probably one of the top five college basketball players decorated college basketball players of all time, he's not in. And then a friend of mine goes, you know, you keep talking about people who aren't in the Hall of Fame. You know your boy, Digger Phelps is not in the Hall of Fame. And I go, Digger Phelps is not in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Can we check and see if that's true. Digger Phelps, Notre Dame, still alive, not the Basketball Hall of Fame. 00:09:08 Speaker 7: Wow? 00:09:10 Speaker 6: Checking, there's mixed reports here. 00:09:13 Speaker 11: Yes, Marvin, as far as the Basketball Hall of Fame, Sonny Vacaro and La and later, those are your two guys that you need to get in. 00:09:20 Speaker 2: But I would want Digger Phelps in. And you know what's going to hurt him is he actually sent me a recruiting letter when I was in high school. And they'll go, how much did he know about basket? Yes, that's a meeting. Yes, But a couple of weeks later, they then told me that they were not recruiting me, so he knew talent. 00:09:38 Speaker 3: I didn't show that. 00:09:39 Speaker 2: I didn't show my friends, my teammates the second letter I got. I just showed them the first letter. Hey, we're interested, and alumni are alumnus in the area is recommending you. I don't think Digger Phelps is in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Yes to everything I'm looking at suggest he is not. 00:09:58 Speaker 10: He was honored by Notre Dame in their Ring of Honor or whatever, but nothing suggests that year in the Basketball of Fame at all. 00:10:03 Speaker 2: Why is it so tough for college guys to get into the Basketball Hall of Fame? 00:10:08 Speaker 9: Yeah, Marvin, is it the combo Grant Hill's in? 00:10:13 Speaker 11: Yeah, because Grant Hill had a really good start to his NBA career as well as a great year, great career Duke. Yeah, So I think it was the lack of success that Laytner had in the NBA that hurts him. If he had gotten hurt in year three in the NBA, he would have been in the Hall of Fame fifteen years ago. 00:10:31 Speaker 9: Yes, that Ralph Sampson effect. 00:10:32 Speaker 3: Yeah, but he played like thirteen years in the NBA, but not at I know. 00:10:38 Speaker 9: That's what I'm saying. 00:10:39 Speaker 3: Played in the NBA for thirteen years. 00:10:42 Speaker 11: But not everyone that plays in the NBA for thirteen years goes to the Hall of Fame. 00:10:44 Speaker 3: Ralph Samson's in the Basketball Hall of Fame. 00:10:47 Speaker 11: Correct, But Like I said before, it was because of the injuries. If he had played fifteen years of just average level basketball, I don't think he'd be in. 00:10:59 Speaker 6: Okay, Yeah, Paul, here's another name that I think has bothered you in the past. 00:11:04 Speaker 7: No offense. 00:11:05 Speaker 6: Ben Wallace, former defensive player for the Pistons. He was the DePoy four times. 00:11:11 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:11:12 Speaker 6: Yeah, that award got him in because his stats are Rudy Gobert is. 00:11:17 Speaker 3: Going to be a Hall of Famer. 00:11:19 Speaker 7: H he is? 00:11:22 Speaker 5: That is wow, so interesting. 00:11:25 Speaker 2: But Ben did win an NBA championship, right he did. Okay, Rudy Gobert is going to be a Hall of Famer. 00:11:33 Speaker 6: He is probably. He has three All Star appearances, but he's got four Defensive Player of the Year awards, just like Ben Wallace. 00:11:40 Speaker 2: And look, I hate doing this because we do this when we are like Ben Wallace to me, is not a Hall of Famer. He's not very very very limited offensively. Defensively, yes, weak side help, he was wonderful. Just if they don't win a championship, is he. 00:12:02 Speaker 3: In the Hall of Fame? 00:12:03 Speaker 2: I don't think so. 00:12:04 Speaker 3: But that's what you know. 00:12:07 Speaker 2: Okay, you're part of this group and ensemble. Okay, well, Latner was part of an ensemble at Duke, if you want to look at it that way. 00:12:16 Speaker 11: Yes, Mark, Yeah, going back to Ben Wallas, this might be the Eli Manning effect who the Pistons beat. They beat the Shaq and Kobe Lakers in the NBA Finals, So I think that helped him get into the Hall of Fame as well. 00:12:26 Speaker 2: Yeah, Michael Cooper won titles. I mean he's in because it's an ensemble, yes, Mark. 00:12:34 Speaker 11: Yeah, he was on all five Showtime Lakers teams. Yes, yeah, yeah, a lot of those guys somewhere on three, somewhere on two. He was on all five. 00:12:41 Speaker 2: If Draymond Green plays for the Hawks, he's not in the Hall of Fame. He's part of the ensemble with Golden State. He's going to be a Hall of Famer. 00:12:47 Speaker 6: Heyes, Paul, here's another guy that I don't think anyone questioned when he was up for the Hall of Fame. Managed Genobi of the Spurs. He started three hundred and fifty games out of eleven hundred. He was not even a starter for most of his career. Time All Star and nope. But what he did in the playoffs, Yeah, no problem. 00:13:04 Speaker 2: Putting on international player yeah as well. Yes, Todd not exactly a consolation prize. But Digger Phelps Ryder Athletics. 00:13:11 Speaker 10: Hall of Fame, playing a couple of years at Ryder, not exactly getting into the spring per. 00:13:17 Speaker 3: First ballot. Here's a Hall of Fame brust ballot. Ryder College reserve. 00:13:21 Speaker 8: Hoops the three seasons at Rider, then became a graduate assistant. 00:13:24 Speaker 2: Yeah. Man, Digger's not in the Hall of Fame. He's tough standards there, tough standards. I'd like to be on the board there, to be on the committee. Rider University, no Basketball Hall of Fame. 00:13:38 Speaker 5: Pride of Lawrenceville. If I'm not mistaken that Rid. 00:13:41 Speaker 3: I don't know. 00:13:45 Speaker 10: The Rider Bronx. By the way, are they curious b r o Ncs not Broncos the. 00:13:49 Speaker 3: Rider Broronx. 00:13:52 Speaker 2: Shout out In New Jersey, Jack Hughes gave a shout out the gold medal winning star and they played last night the Devils, and here's Jack Hughes. 00:14:03 Speaker 13: Hughes, I'm so proud and I'm so happy that the men's and women's USA hockey teams brought gold medals back to the United States of America. 00:14:18 Speaker 9: You guys are making me emotional. 00:14:20 Speaker 13: But I'm so proud to represent the New Jersey Devils organization, and I'm so so proud to represent the great state in New Jersey. 00:14:33 Speaker 7: So proud. 00:14:35 Speaker 4: Oh come on, now, that's a guy who gets it right now. 00:14:40 Speaker 3: Every state, not every state is the great state. New Jersey is one of them. 00:14:45 Speaker 7: Really? 00:14:46 Speaker 3: Hell yeah, they are? They all great? 00:14:50 Speaker 10: He's so emotional. Jack, Here's that he can't see straight. They used to be an old skip from Joe Piscopos. I love you used to go, I'm from Jersey, You're from Jersey? 00:14:58 Speaker 8: What state? 00:14:59 Speaker 3: What exit? 00:14:59 Speaker 8: That's what he would That's how he would do a little stick. 00:15:01 Speaker 3: I don't think every state is great. So you're saying Jersey is not great. I'm said I would make. 00:15:06 Speaker 10: An analogous to someone that would say, like if they were talking about the boroughs of New York from the great borough of Staten Island. 00:15:11 Speaker 8: I don't think anyone's going to say that. 00:15:12 Speaker 3: My wife would. 00:15:14 Speaker 8: That's because she grew up there. 00:15:15 Speaker 3: Rich Eisenwood grew up there. Yeah, soon to. 00:15:19 Speaker 4: Be Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's Wu Tang clan would certainly appreciate Statton Island. 00:15:23 Speaker 3: Yea, is New York a great state. 00:15:27 Speaker 10: I would say, so, they have their problems like any other. Stay a rat population. 00:15:31 Speaker 3: But is every state a great great stand? I don't think it is. 00:15:37 Speaker 2: Those that live there. They might say that, okay, we'll seat's from Jersey. I wouldn't say New Jersey was a great state. 00:15:45 Speaker 5: You we're having a good day. Why are you picking fights? 00:15:49 Speaker 2: I don't know. 00:15:51 Speaker 9: I don't know. 00:15:51 Speaker 5: If Jack makes it's pork roller Taylor Ham, that's really what. 00:15:53 Speaker 2: I haven't been told to stay in my lane, and you know we're an hour and a half into the show. 00:15:58 Speaker 5: I don't feel like I could tell you to stay in your lane. In terms of New Jersey. 00:16:02 Speaker 4: I've lived in Jersey, and then that would actually lead to us some type of what's exit joke? 00:16:06 Speaker 5: From? Which exit? From? 00:16:07 Speaker 14: Todd? 00:16:08 Speaker 2: Yeah, I lived in Jersey, so I can I can speak on behalf. 00:16:12 Speaker 4: I never understood though, like, oh which exit thing, as if every state doesn't have exits off of their highways. 00:16:19 Speaker 5: I don't understand that. 00:16:21 Speaker 2: Well, maybe people from New Jersey they always bring up the exit where they're from. Then they're saying, oh, where are you from? Oh blah blah blah, oh that's exit ninety. 00:16:31 Speaker 5: I've never thought, I never I don't know that I've ever done that. 00:16:33 Speaker 2: I've never given the exit of where I live. But I've never heard any any other state residence where they go, ye oh, yeah, you know, I'm exit, you know, I'm off the five and then you take the you know, exit nine. 00:16:45 Speaker 5: See, I don't, I don't hear. 00:16:47 Speaker 4: I've lived in New Jersey a long time and no one ever said, like, where are you from, like sarahl Oh, exit eighteen off the turnpike. 00:16:52 Speaker 2: I don't. 00:16:53 Speaker 5: I don't know that people from out of state always do the what's exit which exit joke? 00:16:58 Speaker 6: Yes, we are we gonna rank states? Will we go forward in rank states? Like what state is the one seed? What state is let Todd? 00:17:06 Speaker 3: Let Todd. 00:17:06 Speaker 2: He's the one that came in this morning and said, you know, when you heard Jack Hughes, he goes, is is it really you know in great state. 00:17:12 Speaker 9: I'll just say this, Jack. 00:17:13 Speaker 10: Hughes wasn't desperate for cheers or applause. He got the gold medal winning goal. He didn't need to say, you know, like a Communian say how are we doing Pittsburgh just to get some cheap applause. We know he did a great thing, and they were gonna cheer for him. He didn't need to add and represent the great state of New Jersey. Of course they're gonna cheer for that, but it seemed like an unnecessarily desperate move to get the crowd extra yid Marvin. 00:17:33 Speaker 11: Do you judge the state off of the people that it's produced. If that's the case, in Jersey's up there. Look at all the rest stops. 00:17:42 Speaker 3: And who names their rest stops? 00:17:45 Speaker 5: Geniuses, people who get it. 00:17:48 Speaker 2: Bon Jovi has a restaurant that's my rest stopjo what exit seat? 00:17:57 Speaker 10: But we also say, like to compare New York and New Jersey, like I grew up in New York, al I live in New York. People just say Jersey and they drop the news. So maybe there's something not so new about it. Why do we just call it Jersey? A lot of people kind of flippantly refer to New Jersey as Jersey, which to me means maybe it's not a great state. 00:18:12 Speaker 4: Well it's not called great Jersey. Yeah, every state has those recent regionalisms, though, Like if you talk to Ross Tucker, be like, where are you from Hershey, Pa? He always says, p a uh, I don't know that, Paul, you've never described yourself as being from Illinois. You're a Chicago guy. Nobody's from Chicago. They're Chicago guys. I'm a Chicago guy. Oh that means you're from Chicago, but nobody just says. 00:18:35 Speaker 3: Where are you from? 00:18:35 Speaker 5: Chicago? 00:18:36 Speaker 2: Yeah, but I'm from Cincinnati. I don't say Cincinnati, Ohio. That's because nobody wants to admit they're from. 00:18:44 Speaker 1: Take that. 00:18:45 Speaker 9: Wow, Ohio not a great state? 00:18:48 Speaker 1: That? 00:18:49 Speaker 3: What's with the chili? 00:18:50 Speaker 2: Oh mash in personal? 00:18:55 Speaker 10: Right now? 00:18:56 Speaker 2: How about we take a break here back after this from The Dan Patrick Show. 00:19:02 Speaker 1: Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app. 00:19:12 Speaker 15: Hey is Covino and Rich from Fox Sports Radio Now. Matt, good to have you with us. Hand size seems like it was so three years ago. Now it's arm length. When did this happen? Why did this happen? 00:20:24 Speaker 16: Well, it happened because this is the one quarterback draft, so we don't have the quarterbacks to obsess over. But I'll tell you this, if Ty Simpson from Alabama comes in at six' to one with a nine inch, hand we're probably. 00:20:34 Speaker 7: Gonna be talking about it. 00:20:35 Speaker 16: Again but because we know That Fernanda mendoza is six foot four two or d twenty five, pounds we don't have to have the panic this year about hand size because he's we, know we know he's big enough in terms of THE nfl. Standard what we do gets obsessed about is Does Ruben bain have. 00:20:51 Speaker 7: Thirty two inch arms or? 00:20:52 Speaker 16: Not forget what he did in the college football, playoffs forget that he was the most dominant defensive player in college football for most of last. Year we got to worry about that quarter of an inch and how much of a difference it actually. Makes and is that time of year Like i've, been this is my fifteenth, COMBINE i still don't know that arm length matters unless you have context to that that shows you on tape that a player's short arms or small hands are an. Issue but it is one of those things that we get pretty bored in Late february and needs something to talk. 00:21:19 Speaker 2: About, okay if you were going to have long, arms do you want it for your tackle or your edge? 00:21:26 Speaker 3: Rusher? 00:21:28 Speaker 16: Both in a perfect, world, Right AND i will say, this If Will campbell hadn't struggled in The Super bowl with short, arms with sub you, know standard arm, LENGTH i also don't know that we'd be talking about it as much as we. Are but in a perfect, world you want long arms because that allows me to get to you. Faster you can make up for that by having faster, hands a faster. Punch you can make up for it by having better, power which Ruben bain. 00:21:50 Speaker 7: DOES i was talking to someone at dinner last. 00:21:52 Speaker 16: Night Ruben bain is like a, Boxer so he might have short, arms but once he gets inside your arm, length he has so much power in his, hand in his arms and his hips that he's going to just roll over you like a dump truck once he gets. There, so, yes there are times where you would prefer AN edg dresher to have longer. ARMS i would rather an ed dresser have power instead of relying on arm. LENGTH i think at a perfect, tril do you want your tackles offensive tackles to have that reach because it does allow them to be late at, times which is exactly what we saw in the Super bowl Where Will campbell was late and didn't have the link to make up for. 00:22:25 Speaker 2: It, yeah but, ALSO i don't know how you know injured he was with his knee in fairness to, him AND i mean he got exposed into. Playoffs it wasn't just the Super, bowl but he's going against guys who will expose. YOU i Mean Will anderson is a great edge, rusher BUT i don't do The patriots have a problem at left. 00:22:44 Speaker 16: Tackle, NO i don't think. SO i think everything's. Fixable and that's, like that's the key to remember with these. Guys we're going to pick apart their measurements this week and their traits this. Week but the idea is that these are not finished products that you're not coming into THE. Nfl we, Say, okay this is as good as you, are should never get. Better Will campbell can JUST i think there's some footwork stuff that could be cleaned up in terms of his, posture and THEN i think there's some timing things that could be cleaned. Up and to your, Point, dan which is a great one that got lost in the, playoffs he was playing hurt throughout the later part of the, season so that's going to also allow, him you would, think better timing as he goes to cut off those edge. Rushers but Also Will anderson's going to beat. You i'm sure you've heard this saying they get paid. To it doesn't Mean Will campbell's bad just Because Will anderson's a little bit. Better Will anderson's one of the best pass rushers in, football and The Seattle seahawks had one of the best schemes in. Football SO i don't think The patriots have a. PROBLEM i think they have a player who remember one year, Ago Will campbell had just played a, season and then he's in draft pre combined. Training then you're In Pro day, training then you're in rookie mini, camp then you're in training, camp then you're. 00:23:50 Speaker 7: Playing a seventeen game. 00:23:51 Speaker 16: Season this dude hasn't had a break in a year and a, half and SO i think it's also a matter of give him an offseason to get, healthy to get right to work with his offensive line. Coach most of these guys have a private offensive line coach they'll go work, with AND i bet we see an improved player next. 00:24:04 Speaker 3: Year the best player in the, draft regardless of. 00:24:07 Speaker 7: Position jeremiah loves running Back Notre. 00:24:10 Speaker 16: DAME i don't think it's particularly, close and you, KNOW i don't think it's close to what he did the last years At Notre dame was. PHENOMENAL i, mean he has The Notre dame record for most touchdown runs over ninety. Yards he had a ninety eight yard touchdow run Against indiana a year. Ago he had a ninety four yard touchdown run this year and he's two hundred and fourteen. 00:24:29 Speaker 7: Pounds but let's catching, No. 00:24:31 Speaker 2: Matt If i'm going to compare him To Sakuon barkley coming out Of Penn, state he'd be. 00:24:36 Speaker 7: Close they would Be they would be ONE, a ONE vi as. 00:24:40 Speaker 16: PROSPECTS i THINK i think he's right there With Jean robinson AT saque as the best running back prospects of the last ten. Years dang better Than jens because he catches the. Ball better to watch Himgast. Arkansas he catches two touchdown passes like one is a legitimate. Route these are not swing. Passes he's he's flexing out and running undouts and catching touchdown. Passes so this is just so easy to see exactly how he'll fit into AN nfl. 00:25:04 Speaker 2: Offense we're talking To Matt MILLER ESPN nfl draft analysts who should Take Jeremiah. 00:25:09 Speaker 16: LOVE i, MEAN i think the conversation starts with The cardinals at. THREE i, mean obviously The raider should Take fernandaman. doesA he's a, winner he's, poised he's. Accurate he's everything you want in a quarterback prospect outside of maybe some better. 00:25:22 Speaker 7: MOBILITY i think. 00:25:23 Speaker 16: The, jets with the trade this, morning Trading Jeremia, johnson they're going to GO Edg dresher at, Two so the conversation For love probably starts at. 00:25:29 Speaker 7: Three that's where The cardinals. Are The titans are at. 00:25:31 Speaker 16: Four they just added AN Edg dresher And Jermaine, johnson which was one of their biggest. Needs The giants at five probably not because we Love Cam. Scattabo but then, YOU i think the floor Is Kansas city at, Nine so three to three to nine is probably where he's. At and being here for two days, NOW i can tell you one THING i hear from everyone else in THE nfl is please do not Let Jeremiah love fall To Kansas. 00:25:53 Speaker 7: City don't let that. 00:25:55 Speaker 16: Happen do not Give Patrick Mahomes Jeremiah, love, which in, fairness we heard the same thing About. 00:25:59 Speaker 7: Zaber you're worthy and really hasn't made that much of a. 00:26:02 Speaker 16: Difference SO i Think Kansas city has bigger issues than, just you, know Giving Patrick mahomes a generational running back. 00:26:09 Speaker 2: Talent, YEAH i Had love second on My heisman. BALLOT i thought that he was he was a difference maker of all the players THAT i saw he was the one that you you had to account for every single, game every single play that he was in. There it was and to have that where he can take it ninety, yards there aren't many players who can do, that and that's WHY i, mean he's a top ten. Pick but when as soon as you brought up where you think he's going to, GO i immediately, went he'll fall To Kansas city at? 00:26:40 Speaker 3: Nine you? 00:26:41 Speaker 16: Know but can they draft a running back when they have no pass? Rush their best corner is one year or left on us. Contract he could be. Traded the right tackles, Terrible their tight ends about to. Retire but let me throw receiver may be, Suspended, like can you take a running? 00:26:55 Speaker 2: Back But, matt they're over under his ten and a? Half, yeah how do you explain The chiefs are at ten and a half according. 00:27:04 Speaker 3: To Draftking. 00:27:06 Speaker 7: Patrick? Mahomes so that. 00:27:08 Speaker 16: Simple it's that they have homes and that will win you a lot of. 00:27:13 Speaker 7: Ballgames that doesn't start week? 00:27:15 Speaker 3: One is he going to be there week? 00:27:17 Speaker 7: One DraftKings might know more than we do about his. 00:27:21 Speaker 16: Rehab they've got people In texas right now watching them work. Out, PROBABLY i Think mahomes covers up a. LOT i fear The chiefs are getting to that point where they, say we Have, mahomes we can almost throw anything out there and win and be. Successful and you also Have Andy, reid who's one of the GREATEST nfl coaches of all, time but is a roster that needs a lot of, work and they only have six draft picks and they're eleven million dollars over the cap right, now which they. 00:27:44 Speaker 7: Can the CAP's kind of, fake you can make that. Up but that's a roster that. 00:27:47 Speaker 16: Has a lot more holes then people realize Because andy. 00:27:51 Speaker 7: And pat have covered a lot. 00:27:52 Speaker 2: Up i'm a Big Malik willis fan AND i have been AND i could See, Minnesota, Arizona miami going. Up we'll give you three, years one hundred million. Dollars i'm curious how you Viewed Malik willis when he first came. 00:28:08 Speaker 3: Out, YEAH i liked. 00:28:10 Speaker 16: Him he was my number two quarterback that year and it was it was tight between he And Kenny. Pickett SO i, mean we're not really talking about the nineteen eighty THREE nfl draft in. 00:28:17 Speaker 7: Terms of talent that. 00:28:18 Speaker 3: Year BUT i liked. 00:28:20 Speaker 7: HIM i thought he was just really inexperienced playing At. 00:28:22 Speaker 16: Liberty he hadn't gone against a lot of elite, talent and WHAT i felt was he needed to. 00:28:26 Speaker 7: Play either go out and play with a team that was going. 00:28:29 Speaker 16: To develop him and give him a long, leash or he needed to go somewhere where he could sit behind an established veteran and. Learn it's weird is he really never got either of. Those he never got the long leash In. Tennessee and then you go To Green bay And Jordan love is an established, starter but Not this Isn't Matthew stafford that you're learning. 00:28:45 Speaker 7: Behind this isn't some of that's been in the league first fifteen. Years but he's played so well in. Spots i'm a fan of his as. 00:28:50 Speaker 16: WELL i think when you have a quarterback that has been thrown into situations and, SUCCEEDED i think a quarterback that's battled adversity and not given, up that has really doubled down and made himself into a better. Player those are the things THAT i would be encouraged. By AND i could take connecting the. DOTS a lot of people think killing up In miami as long as they can figure that out cap. Wise With tua moving on doing a different. Direction but when you have a head coach and a general manager coming from one place to, another it does make sense that they. 00:29:17 Speaker 7: Would you remember the movie Maybe Any gain Of. 00:29:19 Speaker 16: Sunday it's like when Al pacino goes to the expansion team and he Takes Willy beaming with. Him it almost feels like that's what the packers are. About you, know the guys are going To miami and they're, like and we're Taking Malik willis with us as. 00:29:29 Speaker 2: WELL i always hear From michigan fans When i'm critical OF jj. McCarthy i just didn't see it when he was in college because the Way jim, coaches you, know it's you've got to be able to run the ball and play. Defense AND i don't think they relied ON. Jj now he did have a couple of games where they did rely on, him BUT i know he's been banged, up maybe thrown in too. Soon BUT i, mean what's missing? Here what AM i missing WITH jj. 00:29:56 Speaker 16: McCarthy i THINK i missed it too BECAUSE i liked him coming out AND i had the same. 00:30:01 Speaker 7: Concerns you. 00:30:01 Speaker 16: KNOW i went to The michigan prote and talked to the coaches about like why why did you hide your quarterback at? Times and their answer, was, well we. Didn't we didn't hide our. Quarterback we just didn't have to use. 00:30:09 Speaker 9: Him you. 00:30:10 Speaker 16: Know our run game was so, good our offensive line was so. Good why throw the ball if running's. Working that was really their. Answer and it's, like, okay, well maybe there's some truth to. That and it seems like THE nfl agreed because he was a high first round. Pick BUT i think right now he looks to me like a player where the game is just way too fast for. Him and it's like With Malik, willis how do you fix? That you either go play a hell of a lot of football and you're giving a long leash to make, mistakes or you sit and learn behind someone that knows what they're. Doing AND i think that's why we Saw minnesota try to bring In daniel or Keep Daniel, jones you, know after they traded for. HIM i think it's why we'll See minnesota go after A Geno smith or A Kirk cousins in this, offseason just so that maybe they're not giving up all, McCarthy but they're, Saying, okay why don't you sit and watch somebody that knows what they're, doing and to be able to do that while not, injured because you, know When Sam donald was, there McCarthy was. Hurt so he's not in the building taking those same reps that he would if he was the number two. Quarterback he's still twenty two years old and there's still a ton of time left FOR. J. J. 00:31:07 Speaker 7: McCarthy i think. 00:31:08 Speaker 16: Now it's kind of that moment of are you willing to admit that it's not working and do the work where guys like you, know we Have Baker, Mayfield Sam, darnold so many examples of quarterbacks that had this same moment and bounce. 00:31:20 Speaker 2: BACK i think we're close to having that conversation with. McCarthy Fernando mendoza's first quarterback. Taken give me the next three. 00:31:27 Speaker 16: Quarterbacks Ty simpson will be the second, one and after that it is a, mess AND i think this week will actually. Matter and NORMALLY i think we come into the combine and we kind of know the quarterback Or mendoza will go. 00:31:40 Speaker 7: First Ty simpson probably goes back into round. 00:31:42 Speaker 16: One THEN i think it could Be Drew aller From Penn, state who's A traits first quarterback that was injured this past year In, october didn't really get a chance to have that resume year that we would have liked to have seen from. Him Carson, beck on the other, hand comes into the year off THAT ucl injury and played really well down the stretch From. Miami even if there were times they hit him a little, bit but he played well for. Them and then you Have Garrett, nessmeyer whose dad is an offensive coordinator In Orleans. 00:32:07 Speaker 7: Saints he had kind of an. 00:32:09 Speaker 16: Up and down two years as a STARTER, lsu but he has the FOOTBALL, iq the, accuracy he kind of has a little bit of a gunslinger. Mentality it's one one of those guys is, next AND i think those would be the next, three and it will probably come down to what teams are looking. For you, know if you're THE La, rams maybe you go After Drew aller Because stafford's getting close to retirement. Age you've proven that you want a quarterback that can make all the, throws that can push the ball down the. Field that's not really Nus, Meyer so it's you kind of start to eliminate who the guy could be based on. 00:32:40 Speaker 7: Traits that, way. 00:32:42 Speaker 2: IF i Put mendoza in the draft a couple of years ago the quarterback heavy. 00:32:46 Speaker 3: Draft where does he go in your opinion in twenty. 00:32:49 Speaker 7: Four with Like caleb And jayden and those, GUYS i think he goes. 00:32:53 Speaker 16: Fourth Caleb williams IS i will maintain the best quarterback Prospect i've. 00:32:58 Speaker 7: Seen is he And joe are up there as the two best in the last ten. 00:33:01 Speaker 16: YEARS i do Think Jayde daniels coming off that year AT lsu still goes. Second drake may still goes, third just on who he, is the, person the physical, traits the upside as such a young player At mendoza is, fourth AND i bet you right now The falcons would rather Have Fernanda mendoza The Michael. PENNINGS i don't think that's even a, conversation Right they. Would they would be very happy With mendoza right. 00:33:23 Speaker 2: Now if You're, houston do you EXTEND C. J? 00:33:26 Speaker 3: Stroud? 00:33:27 Speaker 16: NOW i, would just BECAUSE i think the number is only going to go. Up but it has to be a common sense. Extension it should not be one of these it's your turn as a free, agent let's reset the market with, you because we've seen so much of that and it hasn't worked. Out you, know these teams that extended. Early really outside Of Kansas. City the early extensions where contracts were bloated and ballooned didn't work, out so many of those guys ended up being. Cut SO i think you do it early if it can make sense. FINANCIALLY i don't think you GIVE. Cj stroud million dollars a, year sixty million dollars a, year some of the numbers that quarterbacks are expected to make in this next. 00:34:04 Speaker 7: Cycle BUT i do THINK i THINK. 00:34:07 Speaker 16: Cj struggles have been a little bit overstated because you, know he's a third year. 00:34:11 Speaker 7: Quarterback we expect these guys to make. 00:34:13 Speaker 16: JUMPS i would look At houston's offensive line and say that offensive line has completely got reworked last, year and they wiped the sleep clean and started. OVER i still Think cjstrack could be a really good quarterback in this. 00:34:24 Speaker 3: League thank, You. Matt we'll be checking in with. You appreciate, You. 00:34:28 Speaker 2: Dan Thanks Matt, MILLER, ESPN Nfl Draft, ANALYST Nfl draft daily weekdays at three ON espn, TWO espn App Disney. Nfl but being able to catch the ball is really, important you know when you're watching The Super. Bowl and this was pointed out By chris Collins. Worth he, Said, Hey Kenneth walker is great, runner he just can't. 00:35:09 Speaker 3: Catch not good at catching. 00:35:11 Speaker 2: Passes AND i think That Jamiir gibbs kind of, hybrid Even Bjean. ROBINSON i don't know how many catches he, had BUT i want him to have at least sixty every. YEAR i just want the ball in his hands and get him out in. Space you, know the The niners do a great job with, McCaffrey who might be more valuable as a wide receiver than he is a running. 00:35:33 Speaker 3: Back, Yeah Pauli. 00:35:34 Speaker 6: Bijon this year in seventeen, games fifteen hundred yards, rushing he had eighty receptions this. 00:35:40 Speaker 2: Year, YEAH i MEAN i got to get him the ball at all, costs at any. COST i got to get him out in. Space but today's running back is not Necessarily Kenneth. Walker it's More Jamir, gibbs AND i think that's Where Jeremiah love and he's got that extra. 00:35:56 Speaker 3: Gear and the. 00:35:58 Speaker 2: Fact That Matt miller was, saying, Hey Saquon barkley And Jamir gibbs Or Jeremiah love very very similar grades coming out of. 00:36:07 Speaker 3: College, Yeah, PAULINE. 00:36:09 Speaker 6: I have a comp On jamir On Jeremiah love Of Notre, dame a, bigger Stronger Robert smith Of Ohio. State he has that track speed at the end runs kind of, upright but he has a lot more to inside the. 00:36:23 Speaker 2: TACKLES i thought he was going to be a star then he when he drafted By.
