This week Heartland Steak Company sent us some treats here. We have pulled port smoke, sausages, mac and cheese, brisket, baked beans, and coleslaw. Who has it better than we do? 00:00:54 Speaker 4: No? 00:00:56 Speaker 2: Absolutely, okay? Pull question here and then we'll bring in Bo Jackson. 00:01:00 Speaker 5: Arguably one of the craziest poll questions we've ever had. But who should Tom Brady be rooting for in the Super Bowl? New England, Seattle or neither? 00:01:08 Speaker 3: Okay? Right now? 00:01:10 Speaker 5: Fifty two percent of the audience say New England, forty percent say neither. 00:01:16 Speaker 2: Well, he's he's going to be rooting for the Patriots. I would hope, but I don't know like he put himself in this position that he didn't need to put himself in you could. No one's gonna care if he said, you know, my heart's always with New England. Great memories, and mister Craps is a Hall of Fame owner. Belichick's gone, So why wouldn't you root for a former teammate Mike Vrabel And you can root for Seattle because you're hiring their offensive coordinators your next head coach. 00:01:43 Speaker 3: Not a big deal. 00:01:44 Speaker 2: But a Sante Samuel is not pleased as he's put Tom Brady on the clock. 00:01:49 Speaker 3: Is that right, Seaton? 00:01:51 Speaker 5: Yeah, according to a Santa Samuel, tom Brady, you have twenty three hours to respond to where it's up. I'm going eight bleep about who you are. He is not happy about tom Brady's comments. 00:02:01 Speaker 2: Pat We'll keep an eye on that story here when Sante Samuel is going to reveal who Tom Brady. 00:02:06 Speaker 5: Really is, Apparently he's about to go eight leap in about twelve hours. 00:02:10 Speaker 3: What if Tom. 00:02:10 Speaker 2: Says, Hey, Asante, if you would made that interception on Eli Manning, I'd have another Super Bowl. Fair point d. Bo Jackson the nineteen eighty five Heisman Trophy winner, and he has a weekly podcast dedicated to men's health, It's bow Nos Health. We'll talk about that as we make way for Bo Jackson on the program. 00:02:41 Speaker 6: How good, I. 00:02:41 Speaker 3: Don't how you doing? 00:02:47 Speaker 4: Yeah? 00:02:48 Speaker 3: You want to bring that microphone a little bit closer to you. There you go. 00:02:51 Speaker 2: I'm happy you are okay, very happy. Although when we played golf you weren't happy that day. 00:02:59 Speaker 7: I'm well, I'm not gonna curse, but I'm gonna crafty golf. I know my weaknesses, yeah, and I know my strengths. 00:03:08 Speaker 3: Golf isn't one of them, but you still play it. 00:03:12 Speaker 7: I love the sport for this simple reason. Everything else I do I conquer, Golf kicks my ass. 00:03:25 Speaker 3: And we played with Jim McMahon that day. 00:03:27 Speaker 6: Yep, barefoot Jim. 00:03:28 Speaker 2: Yeah, had all of his beers. I felt bad for his caddy because he's carrying around a twelve pack. 00:03:32 Speaker 7: Yeah, he's carrying a twelve with eyes his golf bag. Yeah, his shoes because he takes his shoes off. No strange, it's it's but hey, golf does that to people. 00:03:42 Speaker 2: Well, okay, you say you conquer everything. What is it about golf though that frustrates? I mean it's a mental guy. 00:03:49 Speaker 7: I would rather have that ball coming at me ninety five miles an hour then have it sitting on that tee because it's intimidating his health period. 00:03:58 Speaker 3: I know. 00:03:59 Speaker 2: Yeah, And athletes talk about that that you want. You want movement, and you're not allowed to talk when people are ready to swing. You know, if you're playing football or baseball, people are yelling and. 00:04:10 Speaker 7: Strang yeah, talk, cuss me out, do whatever. But when you're on the tee with people watching you, your sphincter is. 00:04:17 Speaker 2: Okays sphincter yes, by any way, I still. 00:04:26 Speaker 6: Have this Oh wow, yes, white, Yes. 00:04:30 Speaker 2: Nike sent this to me. The boos just do it all and I kept it. 00:04:35 Speaker 7: Listen, do you want to sell it to who me? 00:04:40 Speaker 3: I'll give it to you. 00:04:42 Speaker 6: Do you put it in my grandkids? 00:04:44 Speaker 7: I have two grandsons two and four, and know they will not play football. 00:04:50 Speaker 3: Really baseball. What was your best sport? 00:04:54 Speaker 6: My best sport? 00:04:57 Speaker 7: My best sport was on the first in fifteen, picking up my pitcheck. 00:05:04 Speaker 6: Yes, very good, very good. 00:05:07 Speaker 3: Okay, but be honest, which one were you better at? 00:05:11 Speaker 6: It's I I can't say. 00:05:13 Speaker 7: And I'm being totally honest with you because because both of them, because both sports, they are so different in the way you approach football. You're tight, intense twenty four to seven. Baseball you got one hundred and sixty two games. So you can't be that way for one hundred and six two game you lose your mind. Baseball is relaxed to where we have to have fun while we're working, crack jokes, makes fun of somebody in the stands, do whatever we can to keep ourselves loose, because that's how we play baseball. 00:05:54 Speaker 3: Growing up. 00:05:54 Speaker 2: What was your first sport that you played, Oh, track and feel. Did you race against Herschel? 00:06:01 Speaker 6: I think we raced against Herschel. 00:06:02 Speaker 7: I think I raced against Herschel once in the pen relays in the sixties. 00:06:06 Speaker 3: And how'd you do? 00:06:07 Speaker 7: I think I came in second or third because what somebody jumped the gun the first time and it was and I was nervous I was going to jump the gun and I was probably the next to the last person to get out of the blox and I think I still. 00:06:19 Speaker 6: Came in third. 00:06:20 Speaker 3: Did you race Dion? 00:06:21 Speaker 7: No, Dion and I have never raised I just heard the thing about him in his fresh ones. 00:06:27 Speaker 3: What did you what did you did you? Did you know that story with Dion Tels? 00:06:30 Speaker 6: Yes, yes, visual. 00:06:32 Speaker 2: But you remember putting your hand on his helmet, almost as if to bless him, and then. 00:06:36 Speaker 7: But as Deontay, I put my hand on and I prayed for him and went to the end and just went on about my business. But yes, I remember that. I remember then was seventeen years old. He weighed about a buck twenty with all his pads on, but he could fly. 00:06:52 Speaker 3: Was he faster than you? 00:06:53 Speaker 7: And he came across. He was quicker than me from point A to point B. 00:06:57 Speaker 3: But I straight straight speed. Yeah. Do you ever meet talk to Brian Bosworth about that goal line? 00:07:05 Speaker 7: I see Bosworth all the time and we talk about everything, but that not saying that in a disrespectful way, but people talk about it when we're there, And. 00:07:19 Speaker 3: Yeah, you went right into his chest that on the goal line, right. 00:07:23 Speaker 7: As I say, with no disrespect to Brian, because Brian is a good guy. At that point in time, Bosworth was probably the smartest athlete playing professional sports because the way he marketed himself, Yeah, and his Bosworth image. Nobody else did that but him. So he started that the bad guy image to where he would follow Dan Marino out of bounds. 00:07:48 Speaker 6: And push him over the water cooler. Yeah, push him over Tate. 00:07:50 Speaker 7: But that was his bad boy image which made him a lot of money. 00:07:55 Speaker 3: What was the you're welcome to the NFL moment? 00:07:58 Speaker 7: My welcome to the NFL moment was. I don't know if it was my freshman year or my I don't know if it was my first year or second year, but I got hit from behind, got hit right here in the short circuit it everything. The ball came loose. I fell on the ball, and I can't remember who we were playing. I don't know if it was Cincinnati or somebody, but the ball came loose, and I'm like, get on the ball, don't let the ball go. I fell on the ball, which made me cradle the ball. Don't let him get the ball. So I had to tell myself, get up, get to the sideline and clear your head. Get up. So I got up. I'm fascion, your chin strapped, Get to the sideline. Just sit down. I make my way through the crowd, and as I sat on the bench, as soon as my butt touches the bench, somebody grabs my arm and say you on the other side, email and push sneth out on the field. 00:08:56 Speaker 6: Wow. 00:08:56 Speaker 3: Yes, so you went to the wrong sideline. 00:08:58 Speaker 7: I went to the wrong sideline, and I got to the sideline and they got Steve Berline, Steve Smith, who God rest his soul because he's no longer with the see of my block and fullback from Penn State. It was their job to ask me questions because we didn't have this concussion protocol back then. The concussion protocol back then was if you could tell us what you do on this play, then you're good. And I didn't know that. And this happened the end of the first quarter. I didn't play the whole second quarter because they were asking me questions. I didn't know that I was married. I didn't know that I had three kids. I didn't know what day it was. And Steve Berline asked me. This what got me back on track? He said, when's pay day? I said Monday? 00:09:42 Speaker 6: And so that brought me back. 00:09:48 Speaker 7: And I'm watching the police this in Raider Stadium, and this is in the coliseues. So I'm watching these police officers and they're all running. I'm like, where the hell are all these cops going Raider Stadium? If you come there as as a visitor for the other team and if you say something that you know what happened. Yeah, So the cops are running trying to break up fights, and all of a sudden, I hear a gunshot bow and everybody duck, and I see my teammates running, and Steve Smith gets up and I'm like, smittye, where is everybody going? 00:10:22 Speaker 6: He said, it's halftime food. 00:10:23 Speaker 3: Follow me. 00:10:25 Speaker 7: So I grabbed the back of his jersey and he took me to the locker room. 00:10:31 Speaker 2: Wow, what was your welcome to Major League Baseball moment? 00:10:35 Speaker 7: Welcome to major league Baseball moment? I don't think I have. I don't think I had one. My welcome to the Major League Baseball moment was the first batter O phase was Hall of Famous Steve Calton. 00:10:49 Speaker 6: He was playing for the White Sox. 00:10:50 Speaker 3: Okay, so tail end of his career. 00:10:52 Speaker 7: Tail end of his career, and he hung me a slider and I put it almost on the concourse in that field. But they said it was foul, but the left fielder said that ball was fair. So I end up hitting a two hot second base and beating it out for my first hit. 00:11:09 Speaker 2: Well that and people made a big deal of that, of your speed with a routine grounder, and it was one of those like you were not taking it for granted that I'm gonna, you know, ground out second base. 00:11:20 Speaker 3: No, you didn't stop running. 00:11:22 Speaker 7: But I tell all the kids because I because I'm an ambacheldor for the white sock and the role. So I go to spring training and I tell all the young kids. I go and speak to the young kids in the minor leagues. I said, you have one goal, and that's to get out of here and make it to the big leagues. And I say, your only goal when you make it to the big leagues is to take somebody's job. I said, That's how I went at it. That's how you should look at it. You're there to take somebody's job, because if you can't, you're gonna get sit right back down and you're gonna be on the bus. 00:11:55 Speaker 3: BO know's mental health? How this come about? 00:11:57 Speaker 6: BO knows men's health. 00:11:59 Speaker 7: Oh, men's both knows men's own And the way that comes up, I will ask you this question, just for all the men on the stage, how often do you sit up with your buddies or anybody and talk about you went and got your prostate checked or went to get a colonoscopy or ps say, we don't talk about that as men as men for this reason, we think that it makes us less of a man. 00:12:30 Speaker 6: Period. 00:12:31 Speaker 7: The only time we talk about that is when we're behind closed doors with our doctors. 00:12:37 Speaker 6: Period. 00:12:37 Speaker 7: We don't talk about that. I announce her for the first time. I'm a cancer survivor. I had my prostate taken out. And this is coming from somebody that a lot of men from around the. 00:12:54 Speaker 6: Country look up to them. 00:12:57 Speaker 7: And if I can talk about it, we should talk about it as men. Because if you watch women on National TV, on any TV show, they. 00:13:07 Speaker 3: Talk about everything everything. 00:13:09 Speaker 7: Yeah, we keep all this balled up inside of us, which messages with us from a mental standpoint, keeps us cranky, and so forth and so on. If you mentioned your prostate first, thing a God's gonna talk about because this is how we think it's guys, all my sex life is growing. 00:13:29 Speaker 6: That's not true. That's not true. 00:13:31 Speaker 7: And I say this to all of the men in your lists listening audience, don't be afraid to go see your doctor, prostate, get your PSA. 00:13:43 Speaker 6: Check, colonoscopy. 00:13:46 Speaker 7: And I would say this when I was a sophomore at Auburn, woke up one morning, go used to bathroom to get ready for class. A used bathroom, gets a plusure toilet. That's blood in my stool, Go see my trainer. If I had to ignore that, like young people do, I know, I wouldn't be here right now because colon because colon cancer runs in my family. 00:14:10 Speaker 6: Prostate cancer runs in my family, and so forth and so on. 00:14:13 Speaker 7: So most guys, even though when we're out here we're big and tough, manly and everything, but you know something, you're scared shitless to go talk to your doctor because you're afraid of what he's gonna tell you. 00:14:28 Speaker 2: Well, I tell people, don't wait till your fifty to have your first colon on skip here. Absolutely, you should do it when you're thirty, Like there's no just because they say, oh, when you get to be fifty, And I say, don't wait. 00:14:39 Speaker 3: Prostate. 00:14:41 Speaker 2: I had my blood taken earlier this week testing for that because I had I had levels that were a little higher, and they were nervous, and I had my blood taken on Monday. 00:14:54 Speaker 3: Here in San Francisco. 00:14:56 Speaker 7: You get your blood tests done and then they combine it with your glease some score, and if that comes out in the high sixes, sevens or above, you need to get something done. And I can't tell you what to do sources men out here in the country. But the reason, the reason I have my prostate removed three months ago and I'm doing fine, I'm doing great. The reason I have my prostate you now, is because I get emotional when I say this. 00:15:30 Speaker 6: I have two grandsons who. 00:15:35 Speaker 7: I have more fun with them two than any football game baseball game I've ever played. And my job as a papa is a spoil like shit period period. He has so many battery powered vehicles that I have to park my truck outside and keep all his vehicles in the space. 00:16:00 Speaker 6: So that's that's, that's it. 00:16:03 Speaker 7: I want to be around to help raise my grandkids, not only that, to be here for my family. 00:16:09 Speaker 6: Now. 00:16:10 Speaker 7: I'm not seeing a lot on this scene sports world because it was my job. Not saying that I don't like or love what I used to do, but I found something better I think the best gift God can give us. 00:16:26 Speaker 6: As grandkids and I love that. 00:16:28 Speaker 7: So I want to be around to help raise them, you know, to see them growing. They are the best, aren't they. But you can bring them over to your house, spoil the crap out of them, jack jack them up on as they said, skittles, skittles, and come and send them home at the end of the day. 00:16:46 Speaker 3: Uh. 00:16:46 Speaker 2: It's Bo Knows Health, a weekly podcast dedicated to men's health, and uh, thank you for sharing. Thank you Dan, and you know that the message is a powerful one. We did a p s A for Stake Cancer yesterday. All of my guys yes and sending the message out. 00:17:04 Speaker 7: So get the message out. But the thing that I want to do is, yes, I'm Bo Jackson, I did this, I did that. But I'm vulnerable just like you. I want guys to start talking about this. I'm even thinking about taking this on the road to cities because I want to help raise funds to help guys who don't have the proper funds to go get a PSA test, to get a colonoscopy. 00:17:29 Speaker 6: Because it's needed. We don't talk about it. 00:17:32 Speaker 7: And I'm starting my podcast just so I can peel the layers off of that on you so we can. 00:17:37 Speaker 6: Talk about it. 00:17:38 Speaker 3: Bow knows health, men's health. Bo knows men's health. 00:17:42 Speaker 6: Thank you, Dan. 00:17:43 Speaker 3: Great to see it again. 00:17:44 Speaker 6: Thank you and God blessed. Thank you all. 00:17:46 Speaker 2: We'll take a break, kerk Kurbain Street. It'll least Seattle and New England and it'll be on NBC in Peacock. I've known Beau a long time. I interviewed him in nineteen eighty five after he won the Heisman Trophy. I was working as a reporter at CNN in New York, and you know, he said, you know, when you're from fifteen to thirty, those are fifteen of the dumbest years. You say stupid things. 00:19:33 Speaker 6: And so he just. 00:19:34 Speaker 3: Talked about his maturity. But I appreciated him sharing. 00:19:38 Speaker 2: That's the important part because with bo Jackson, you think, you know, that's a living legend, and here he is saying he had prostate cancer and willing to share that with his podcast. All righty, By the way, we'll talk to Melissa Stark and Kaylee Harttung. They're the sideline reporters. They'll join us in an hour from now. Andrew Luck is going to join us at the time up of the hour. I got Kirk curb Street and his dog. 00:20:05 Speaker 3: Herbie. 00:20:05 Speaker 2: Wants you to come on out since your dog is kind of taken over. Kirk curb Street and his dog pet My buddy. 00:20:12 Speaker 9: What's up? 00:20:13 Speaker 7: Man? 00:20:15 Speaker 6: Hey guys? 00:20:15 Speaker 3: How are you? 00:20:17 Speaker 9: He just kind of walk around? Yeah, hey, Peter, Hey buddy, he'll probably sit over here. 00:20:22 Speaker 3: Does he want the chair? 00:20:24 Speaker 9: Came here, Ben, He's checking for these other dogs right now. 00:20:27 Speaker 3: Hey, come here? Is he getting jaded because he's a celebrity. 00:20:33 Speaker 9: I mean, you know what he's handling. He's handled it pretty well. He's handled pretty well. He's uh, he's had a long year of travel and he's a character. Two years old Golden Retriever. 00:20:44 Speaker 2: And how does your wife feel that she's got competition for you? 00:20:48 Speaker 6: Oh? 00:20:49 Speaker 9: Why four goldens? So yeah, yeah, I have an eight year old Pete. Come here, buddy, gim come up here. 00:20:59 Speaker 4: All right. 00:21:01 Speaker 2: You can bring the microphone if he wants to talk. Oh is he going to get in your lap? 00:21:06 Speaker 9: Oh no, he'll just kind of hang but uh yeah, we got a uh four of them and my wife, you know, she loves them, so it makes it. They're just like family for us. Four sons and four male dogs. 00:21:19 Speaker 3: So you're joining us on behalf of spruce. 00:21:22 Speaker 6: Yeah. 00:21:23 Speaker 9: So uh that's what he's got here. 00:21:24 Speaker 3: Okay, Yeah, got his little locked decker chip. Yeah he is locked in. 00:21:29 Speaker 9: Yeah, you've been doing you having a good week? 00:21:32 Speaker 3: Yeah, it's been fun. 00:21:33 Speaker 6: Good. 00:21:33 Speaker 2: Like when you get to talk to Bo Jackson and he relates to everybody by talking about prostate cancer that he just over came. And you know, we did a p s A yesterday to have awareness to that getting tested and colon. You know, guys don't want to talk about that stuff. No you don't, No, no, wait, which one is the the finger test and well that's prostrate yeah. 00:21:57 Speaker 9: Yeah, but important stuff and getting all a bow. You know, great that he's healthy and feeling good, but great that he can shed some light on it with his own experience. 00:22:05 Speaker 2: And that's one of those guys like the greatest athlete who was never a Hall of Famer, right, Like he didn't play long enough in either, but I. 00:22:12 Speaker 9: Think it was the Cincinnati game right then he got hit where he got the hip. 00:22:17 Speaker 2: Oh that was in Oakland. When he got to Oakland, Yeah, yes, and then that was it. 00:22:21 Speaker 9: Yeah, never never the same. 00:22:22 Speaker 3: He was done. 00:22:23 Speaker 6: Yeah. 00:22:24 Speaker 9: People, our generation appreciates him, but I don't know. You know, I try to tell my kids about him. My son ties here right now. He's not in his head like I know all about it. I brainwashed him properly, but I uh man, remember when he climbed that wall, just got full speed, just ran up along the wall. 00:22:40 Speaker 3: It was all Star game, I think it was the Star Game and. 00:22:43 Speaker 9: Hit when the center field hit a bomb. He was just he was one on one. 00:22:47 Speaker 2: And then when he had that I think ninety three yard run where he ran through the tunnel. 00:22:51 Speaker 9: Yeah, remember that showdown with him and Boz at the goal line. 00:22:54 Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, it didn't go well. It did not go well. 00:22:59 Speaker 9: But that was a great era. 00:23:01 Speaker 3: You want to talk super Bowl, if you want to talk college football. 00:23:05 Speaker 9: Talk anything you want to talk about. 00:23:08 Speaker 2: Trying to figure out where we're headed in five years with college football because it feels like it is fluid. 00:23:14 Speaker 3: Yeah, and now college football was kind. 00:23:17 Speaker 2: Of saying hey to Congress, hey can you help us clean up our sport? 00:23:21 Speaker 9: Which is never a good thing. 00:23:23 Speaker 2: No, but it feels like that's their cop out that we can't handle this. Can you get a commissioner for college football? 00:23:32 Speaker 9: I love the idea because I think right now we're still legislating the sport as if it were the nineteen eighties, where it's a regional sport. You know where we grow up. If Whatdy Hayes or Earl Bruce was a coach at Ohio State, the only thing that mattered was the Rose Bull and if you were down where Bear Bryant was, it was all about getting to the Sugar Bowl. And that's now. Unfortunately, that's now in the past for college football. Now it's all about the CFP. And yet we're we're governing this sport with conference commissioners that are worried about their constituents and their region. No one's looking at the entire country what's best and here's what we're going to do. I'm the bizarre and I'm taking in all this information. This is what we need to do. Nobody's doing that right now. My only hope is Nick Saban truly, and people can say, well, he's got an Alabama twist. If you really know Nick Saban, he's got a college football twist. He cares about the players. He cares about the sport, and I think him being involved with Congress him and being involved with the President, He's got a lot of people's ears and I really think he has good intentions. So I'm hopeful that he'll be able to help out. But right now, it's just so impossible to predict where we'll be with this sport. Yet, popularity has never been bigger. You know, people still go to these games, people still tune in. I mean, what a thirty I think for the national title? People love it. It's just it's frustrating to see what's going on on the off the field. 00:24:58 Speaker 2: I'm talking to kirkarb Street and is all, well, we're not talking to Peter. He's not paying attention here. Does he get along with his brothers and sis? 00:25:06 Speaker 3: Oh yeah yeah? But the other ones are they jealous that. 00:25:10 Speaker 9: He's When the bags start to get zipped and packed up, oh they know, he totally knows that he's going. And the other three just shame me. They're just like, I can't believe. I can't believe you're doing it again. 00:25:25 Speaker 3: So tell me what you're doing with Spruce. 00:25:27 Speaker 9: Well, I lost Ben, my other dog, last year, and I've lost a lot of dogs at young ages, and I've always been concerned and wondered why that might be. And so I'm very careful with what I have my dogs around, what I feed them, what's going on in the yard. And for me, Spruce is a very young company. They're actually just in their second year, only ten ingredients in their product, and it's pet friendly, and so that was something that was important to me to if I'm going to use something on my property, I want to try to make I'm giving. 00:26:00 Speaker 3: These guys, so this is weed control. 00:26:02 Speaker 9: Weed control. Yeah, yeah, it's not for the lawn. It's something you would use in a in a bed or on a sidewalk. But the fact that it's pet friendly and weed deadly is something that I was excited about. 00:26:13 Speaker 3: Good good. 00:26:16 Speaker 9: I want this guy to stay around as long as as long as possible. 00:26:21 Speaker 2: I've talked about Fernando Mendoza that, okay, he's the best quarterback this year, and I know it sounds like a slight I don't know how good he is to go into the NFL, because you know, there there's only a couple can't miss guys that have come out of college. You know, Andrew Lucker is going to join us. He was a can't miss lay, can't miss. How many guys would you say you can recall can't miss going into the NFL? 00:26:49 Speaker 9: Oh Man, I I mean you've named You've named a few over the last ten years. They're always it's always debatable, right. 00:26:55 Speaker 3: But it's not like it was. 00:26:56 Speaker 2: Marino wasn't a can't miss because you know there were whispers at the draft right and fell in the draft. Peyton was, I think for the Florida thing he couldn't win. 00:27:09 Speaker 9: The felt like I still felt like he was a can't miss luck for sure. 00:27:13 Speaker 3: But Steve Young wasn't, Montana wasn't. 00:27:16 Speaker 9: Brady was obviously no. 00:27:17 Speaker 3: Even Mahomes no. 00:27:19 Speaker 9: No, I Mahomes was not at all. 00:27:21 Speaker 2: I think the mart Lawrence has been labeled that he was. And now maybe we're starting to start. 00:27:28 Speaker 9: Just kind of see that. I'm you know, nobody's figured out high school to college who's going to be that five star that hits There are a lot of them that don't. Nobody's figured out who's going to be the first pick, and at this position into the draft, who's going to hit one thing. I think I'm starting to take more and more into consideration is just how many reps these guys get in college, because I think it's not about how big he is, how strong his arm is. To me, it's about it's about the ability to process, and it's they're fewer and fewer that have the ability that guys in the nineties early two thousands when they put the offense on their back and they said, hey, you see the safeties, you understand the why. And I think because of that, offensive coordinators in the NFL have had to kind of tweak how they manage the scheme. I think from what I've seen from Fernando Mendoza, and there's still a lot to be seen if you can go to that next level. He's not the guy that you put the offense on his back and you say you're that guy you're gonna make it doesn't matter who's at receiver and running back. He is the guy that if you've got a really good offensive line, you got to back you got a few receivers. He is a guy that you could put in charge of the offense and is not going to get you in trouble, and he's going to make really good decisions and is a lot better I think skill wise, then maybe people right now are willing to give him. 00:28:53 Speaker 2: Yeah, but I worry about the offensive line because you get a first year coach, you get a first year quarter I'm saying, and a bad offensive line, and you got a David Carr situation in Texans. 00:29:03 Speaker 3: Exactly fair, and that's that's what would worry me. 00:29:06 Speaker 9: Yeah, it just depends on who's going to pull the trigger. I think they got to think about what's around that position, especially if you want immediate results. But if you if you're good in a lot of spots and you put him as your quarterback, then then I think that's going to work out pretty good. 00:29:19 Speaker 2: And you know, when I had you on, I said, you know a lot of times we forget when somebody says something correct, and you're the You're the first guy I heard who said, you know, Indiana getting Fernando Mendoza, Hey keep an eye on this guy. And he was playing at cow right And you know that's why I wanted to have you on to acknowledge that and the other thing. I've said this before, I don't know if anybody is better at telling me what. 00:29:44 Speaker 3: Just happened on a play. Ven you, thank you. 00:29:46 Speaker 2: I think it's and I don't know if it's it's something that's in you, it's it's learned. But when you get to that telestrator right after the play, you know, balls down handed the official boom. 00:30:00 Speaker 9: So how do you want to say that? 00:30:02 Speaker 2: But how do you see it that when you're watching a play, because you're going to go, look at this this chip block here and then this back gets out but he misses his block, bah blah blah, and it happens so quickly. Yeah, I got the answers to the test. 00:30:17 Speaker 9: I've tried as I've come up. I started with Mike Turko, you know, years ago at ESPN on Thursday Night. Then I went to Brent Musburger. 00:30:26 Speaker 6: Mike. 00:30:26 Speaker 9: I just felt like with Tim Corgan as the producer, I was like getting a master's class without understanding it. And I really try to pride myself on the why a play just developed and how it developed, and then putting it in terms that the broader audience can appreciate. I tried never to talk down to an audience. I try to talk with an audience, and I just feel that I I always talk to my producer about trying to see that next level analysis. I don't want to just say Wow, that was a great throw or what a great route. I want to I want to try to tell the viewer at home, who maybe doesn't have the perspective and I just did watching it, how that play just unfolded. So challenging part. As you said, it happens at six to eight seconds, you're communicating with the truck, you're listening to the play by play guy, and you want to try to tell them it's important to you show me this because I want to show that guard did a great job. I really love talking about line play and how the guard got up to the linebacker after he helped on the double team and climbed up. So probably a lot of reps, but I just I really work at trying to do the next level analysis in real time, not next week in a studio show, but doing it immediately and not even after a commercial break. I like to try to do it right now, just to try to show you know, we're tuned in what's going on. 00:31:50 Speaker 2: But I don't know if and playing quarterback, I don't know if you can see it through that lens that Okay, I know what this play, I know this formation, I know what they might be doing on this. I'm assuming that that's your homework, but to be able to do it and diagram too, Yeah, it's I mean it's I don't know what kind of student you were at Ohio State, but but you're Assuma cum Lada when it comes to this. Yeah, I mean I can check the record, you can check that Centerville High School, high school. But remember, sees get degrees. 00:32:25 Speaker 3: That's why. 00:32:26 Speaker 9: That's our the gym city, that's our, that's our that's our philosophy. 00:32:30 Speaker 3: Are you rooting for Anyboddy Well? 00:32:33 Speaker 9: I did both these teams on Thursday night with Al and I remember when we did the Rams Seahawks game late. I really thought both those teams were two of the best teams I saw all year. But I thought Seattle's defense man, they're so good and if Sam plays with Sam's capable plan. I just that I'm talking that night, I was like, I think nobody's gonna beat these guys. If they get home field, they're gonna win it all. And now that we're here, I just think I think it's all. If you're looking at a I think it's a low scoring game. I think both these defenses are outstanding. What Vrabel's been able to do in one year incredible. Another example of his leadership and how he creates that culture. I think Seattle's gonna win a three point game. I think it's going to be a back and forth game, like typical NFL game goes into the fourth quarter, that one possession is going to be critical late. I think Seattle went a twenty four to twenty one kind of game. 00:33:27 Speaker 3: Did you think May would be this good this fest? 00:33:29 Speaker 9: No? No, how could you? 00:33:32 Speaker 2: The number of analysts who were like, well, he played in North Carolina, there. 00:33:36 Speaker 9: Was that, and it was the system that he was coming out of. He showed moments that you're just like this kid, this kid's special, and then you talk with him, and then he goes to a whole other level because he's so impressive. Having three older brothers getting roughed up playing golf, playing basketball, I really think all of that developed him into becoming the player. 00:33:59 Speaker 6: That he is. 00:33:59 Speaker 9: He has all shucks about him. His defensive players love him, his offensive lineman love him. He's that guy like everybody wants to win for him. There's no resentment with this guy because he's genuinely humble. And then you throw on top of it, what Josh McDaniels is doing with him. We had him in a preseason against the Giants, and I remember talking to Josh McDaniels about him and he just at that point he didn't know that they were gonna go to the super Bowl, but you could tell there was a lot there that he loved. And combine that with Trevion Henderson in the running game. But I think Josh McDaniels deserves a ton of credit for what he's done with men. 00:34:38 Speaker 3: He's Kirk kurb Street and his dog Peter. 00:34:41 Speaker 9: He's locked in there. 00:34:42 Speaker 3: You go, maybe he can stay if he wants. 00:34:46 Speaker 9: He's got a calming. 00:34:47 Speaker 3: Good before. 00:34:49 Speaker 2: Bruce is the worry free weed killer pet friendly and safe for people pets bees used as directed. Great to see you, hurt me to see Brats on your success. You and Pete, thanks for joining us back after this and the Dan Patrick Show. 00:35:08 Speaker 1: Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our shows at Foxsports Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app search FSR to listen live. 00:35:28 Speaker 2: Sunrise here in San Francisco. Another beautiful day. Weather's been great. You know, people are curious that there was going to be rain or overcast. It's been sunny and temperatures in the mid sixties. Should be close to that on Super Bowl Sunday. I know initially they talked about some rain maybe thirty five percent. I think that's down to maybe about fifteen percent, So hopefully there's no rain in the forecast there. 00:35:52 Speaker 3: That was fun. 00:35:53 Speaker 2: You know, you have Herbie in, you bring his dog in, Bo Jackson comes in. It's like that Super Bowl week and when people talk about, oh, you know, interviewing, and you do a good job interviewing, I can do. I can ask the best questions. If somebody doesn't want to share their answers, it's not a great interview. The interview is that person trusting me, like Bo Jackson sharing what he was sharing about prostate cancer and getting emotional talking about that. Having two grandkids you want to see grow up. And he had prostate cancer surgery three months ago. So that's where you have a good interview that has to be reciprocated. And I've known Belle a long time and for him to trust me, I mean that's the ultimate compliment. Let me see Lucas in Texas. Hi, Luke, welcome back. What do you have for me today? Hey day, good morning, good morning. 00:36:49 Speaker 10: I just want to say, first off, the green screen looks great. It almost looks like you guys are really out there in San Francisco. 00:36:57 Speaker 3: Thank you, Lucas, thank you. 00:36:59 Speaker 10: But now you know what I wanted to call him. It's the Tom Brady stuff. I called him probably six or seven weeks ago and said there was a moment on the NFL Game of the Week broadcast where Kevin Burkhart gave Tom a layup kind of comment of hey, look at your pat so that you know they were looking the playoffs rankings and look how they're doing. 00:37:20 Speaker 3: They're doing pretty well. 00:37:21 Speaker 10: And there was a twenty five second awkward silence where it feels like his brain just says, I cannot give them credit. It just felt so weird, and if anything, say I have two dogs in the fight. I've got my future coach or I've got my teammate that I won Super Bowls with. So it just feels odd. And I think that's the one thing that's kind of off putting with Brady and the average fan. 00:37:42 Speaker 3: All right, thank you, Luke. 00:37:44 Speaker 2: I mean we already know you have a bias towards the Raiders, and it's okay to have a bias towards the Patriots. And you can have a bias towards Clint Kubiak, who's going to be your next head coach. It's okay. But you know, if you say, does he have too many bias? This is I guess you know. The Raiders thing is always tricky. The Patriots everybody knows you know, your legacy there and you got a statue there nothing, you know, nobody's gonna be like, I can't believe Tom said he's pulling for the Patriots. 00:38:15 Speaker 3: Nobody's gonna have a problem with that. 00:38:18 Speaker 7: Yes, Mart, And he's got twelve hours until the Sante Samuel go score stir throwing him. 00:38:22 Speaker 2: Yeah, any other word from a Sante Samuel's teammates Seaton. 00:38:26 Speaker 5: Uh, you know, let me say, I'll have to check. In the meantime, I could tell you poll question results if you'd like, Lauren, who should Tom Brady root for in this Super Bowl? New England, Seattle or neither? Right now, fifty five percent of the audience have neither. Excuse me, have New England? And then the biggest dog on today's show, Bo Jackson, Gerald McCoy Andrew luck or Peter Herbstreet. Right now, Bo Jackson has seventy four percent of the vote. Peter herb Street coming in second place, though, with a very respectable seventeen percent. 00:38:55 Speaker 3: PD was great. Yeah, PD was. 00:38:57 Speaker 5: Gross disrespect here for Jerald McCoy, who's it has three point five percent of that vote. 00:39:02 Speaker 3: People sleeping on that John in California. Hi, John, Hey Dan. 00:39:08 Speaker 4: You got two things. Oh yeah, I happened to be in the audience right behind you. 00:39:15 Speaker 3: Okay, John with the T shirt on? But oh, okay, Yeah, this is. 00:39:20 Speaker 4: The one year anniversary. I had a heart attack a year ago, and paying attention to your health is very important. And I drove myself right to the emergency room and survived through your show and watching my health. 00:39:37 Speaker 2: Well, congratulations. And we didn't play a role in you having the heart attack, did we? 00:39:43 Speaker 3: No? 00:39:45 Speaker 2: Okay, I just wanted to make sure I didn't know. If you came out here and there's a lawsuit, you're gonna blame us, you know, for the lack of entertainment. They gave you a heart attack there. Maybe Fritzy said something that was actually funny. Wow, Thank you, John, thank you, thank you for joining us in our audience there, Mike and Virginia, Hi Mike, what's on your mind? 00:40:09 Speaker 3: Want? 00:40:09 Speaker 11: And Dan five eleven fluctuating one seventy five. Just a quick poll question suggestion for the last hour, if you could see one athlete play their whole career no injuries, Bo Jackson, Tiger Woods and Griffy or Grant Hill and a quick shout out to Amy Lixen's Kin's no how I suck at your wits and Clinting Massy all. 00:40:30 Speaker 3: Right, thank you, Mike. 00:40:32 Speaker 2: I would say Bo Jackson because if I had him healthy and he wanted to play both sports, would we have had something that was even bigger than show he Tani. I mean it was a small window, but it was a powerful and pactful window for both. And you know, Tiger might be the greatest golfer of all time. Grant Hill went through a lot. Grant Hill was an incredible player, and then they never got surgery correct. I'd like to go back and find out how many times he had successful surgery, because I don't think it worked for Grant Hill, who was the other player that he said he still had a great that first half at first ten Bow didn't have that It felt like Bo had four years and four years, but if you could have had him play ten and ten, I mean, wow, yeah, paulin. 00:41:28 Speaker 1: Yeah, Bo Jackson didn't have a ton of carries and a ton of games. 00:41:31 Speaker 9: He averaged five point five yards per carry when he did play in the NFL. 00:41:35 Speaker 3: That is a yard better than a Pro Bowl running back has. 00:41:38 Speaker 2: And he talked about speed, straight ahead speed. He said he was faster than Dion, but Dion had side to side speed. Wait forty year, Oh my god, all right, two hours in the books on this Thursday, Andrew Luck will join us, Paul. 00:41:55 Speaker 3: He's excited. I'm very excited to have Luck on the show. 00:41:58 Speaker 6: Oh. 00:41:58 Speaker 3: I thought you were gonna do your Andrew Luck. 00:42:01 Speaker 2: Okay, not doing the Andrew lunk impersonation in front of him, Okay, all right, final hour right after this
