<v Speaker 3>both very tame movies. I mean you've got I mean,
<v Speaker 3>the the most risk scene that you have in Better
<v Speaker 3>Off Dead is when he falls and pulls the cheerleader's
<v Speaker 3>cheerleading uniform off Christians.
<v Speaker 4>She dates the entire basketball team Lane, not one member
<v Speaker 4>of the team, the whole team.
<v Speaker 3>Yes, and she was beautiful, but I mean they kept
<v Speaker 3>her in the bron panties. I mean for the eighties,
<v Speaker 3>that's very tame. And then I think you pointed out
<v Speaker 3>the most risk scene in One Crazy Summer is like
<v Speaker 3>cartoons with the Little Slutty. The drawings are so fuzzy, bunny.

<v Speaker 4>this is interesting. So One Crazy Summer is released August
<v Speaker 4>ninth of nineteen eighty six. Okay, it was shot in

<v Speaker 3>This is before Demi Moore blew up right, sorry, mom

<v Speaker 4>say that About Last Night fascinated a thirteen year old Jason.
<v Speaker 3>There's a couple of scenes that are a little bit
<v Speaker 3>fuzzy on the VCR copy from overplay, Demmy was captivating.

<v Speaker 3>That's all I'm gonnay Bruce Willis with that scene. I
<v Speaker 3>think that's all I'm gonna say about that. Yeah.
<v Speaker 4>One Crazy Stummer starts off with a graduation scene, which
<v Speaker 4>I mentioned before, Say Anything starts off with a graduation
<v Speaker 4>scene three years later, right, and John Kyussack maintains the
<v Speaker 4>same age.
<v Speaker 3>Which is cool.
<v Speaker 4>But the high school, I don't know if you knows
<v Speaker 4>you notice the name of the high school, no generic
<v Speaker 4>high school, Nantucket. But that was funny, hilarious, right, another
<v Speaker 4>funny scene before we get into casting. There's lots of
<v Speaker 4>little cute stuff. Sure, I thought, first of all, this
<v Speaker 4>movie really captures that sort of innocent time of I'm
<v Speaker 4>out of school.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know what I'm going to do.
<v Speaker 4>I don't really have anything going on, so I have
<v Speaker 4>nothing better to do than just hang out with my
<v Speaker 4>buddies and do.
<v Speaker 3>Whatever we're doing. Go to the beach, Go to the beach.
<v Speaker 4>Right, and in fact, some people have called One Crazy
<v Speaker 4>Summer Better off Dead goes to the beach.
<v Speaker 3>I mean, it's the same thing, right, John Cusack obsessed
<v Speaker 3>with the blonde girl when really it's the brunette he
<v Speaker 3>should be after. Right, that's exactly it. Right.
<v Speaker 4>There's one really funny moment in the very first of
<v Speaker 4>this movie. He's talking to Dami Moore. You can tell
<v Speaker 4>that they're kind of cozying up to each other. They
<v Speaker 4>got something blossoming possibly, and he's like, I just love
<v Speaker 4>the smell of the air the summer area.
<v Speaker 3>But big boy, if you're putting, I can see the land.
<v Speaker 1>Clean fresh air.
<v Speaker 3>And Risey does that.
<v Speaker 4>The guy shoves a chili dog is like chili dog, right,
<v Speaker 4>It's just cute humor like that.
<v Speaker 3>It's sort of Nickelodeon humor if you you know. Yeah, Well,
<v Speaker 3>and then this one, you know, we're gonna talk casting
<v Speaker 3>here in a second, but that's some of the most
<v Speaker 3>interesting stuff is the veriest cast and how it came
<v Speaker 3>to be on this thing. So let's get into it.

<v Speaker 3>Twenty minutes into watching Better Off Dad, he walked out
<v Speaker 3>and then bald Savage Steve Holland out, saying he tricked
<v Speaker 3>him and ruined his career.

<v Speaker 4>Summer, the Nipplely Fuzzy Bunnies.
<v Speaker 3>The fuzzy Bunnies and there's a couple extra special, funny
<v Speaker 3>but fuzzy bunnies that we're going to talk about, right right.
<v Speaker 3>Bill copp is the guy who's doing that animation. He
<v Speaker 3>would go on just three years later to do animation
<v Speaker 3>on The Tracy Ullman Show of a new little bit
<v Speaker 3>called the Simpsonzimpson. It's incredible. And then he and then
<v Speaker 3>of course they worked together again when they did Eke
<v Speaker 3>the Cat. But yeah, Bill Copp was same guy who
<v Speaker 3>did the animation on that did the original animation on
<v Speaker 3>The Simpsons. Fantastic, yep, fantastic.
<v Speaker 4>Demi Moore plays Cassandra Eldridge in this movie. Yes, okay,
<v Speaker 4>Demi Moore had a fantastic late eighties and nineties. Yes,
<v Speaker 4>this is pre mega hot demy. Yeah, but she's I

<v Speaker 3>when it's such a wonderful little it's so s eighties

<v Speaker 4>It's funny, it's absurd, it's sweet as genuine, both of
<v Speaker 4>these movies and so savage. Steve Holland responded by having
<v Speaker 4>a couple of the fuzzy bunnies.
<v Speaker 3>Look exactly well, look very similar to well, one is
<v Speaker 3>kind of heavy and has glasses and the other one
<v Speaker 3>is tall and thin and get massacred or.

<v Speaker 3>Right, so funny because he's not bitter. Yeah, that's great. Yeah,

<v Speaker 3>movie number two, even though John Cusack you know, obviously
<v Speaker 3>hated it. I thought that he brought his his botheredness
<v Speaker 3>that he had with Savage Steve Holland or whatever, it
<v Speaker 3>translated well into his character of Hoops. And then you
<v Speaker 3>increased the cast. In my opinion, I love Diane Franklin,
<v Speaker 3>but Demmy Moore better. And you've got bobcat Goldthwaite, funnier,
<v Speaker 3>you've got Joel Murray funnier.
<v Speaker 2>You bring Curtis Armstrong.
<v Speaker 3>Back in an entirely different part, which is a nice
<v Speaker 3>juxtaposition with the crazy people that are there. I mean,
<v Speaker 3>in my humble opinion, I think that One Crazy Summer
<v Speaker 3>is more underappreciated than Better Off Dead. And so I'm
<v Speaker 3>saying my pick of these two is One Crazy Summer. Wow.
<v Speaker 4>All I have to say to that is okay. Let
<v Speaker 4>me just tell you I'm shocked at that. I think
<v Speaker 4>Better Off That is clearly the funnier movie. I think
<v Speaker 4>it's more genuine. I think the love story works better.
<v Speaker 4>I think Monique and Lane fit better than the nineteen
<v Speaker 4>eighty six version of Demi Moore and Jack Cusack. So
<v Speaker 4>for me, that story just works a little bit better.
<v Speaker 4>I just but I do love both of these movies.
<v Speaker 4>I think One Crazy Summer is a little bit more absurd,
<v Speaker 4>but it's it's so fun and funny.
