It was the hottest February third in one hundred and thirty five years.

00:01:00
Speaker 3: I turned my air conditioner on the car I was driving around and got so hot. Yesterday got little little stuff that I turned my air conditioner on in February.

00:01:08
Speaker 4: I turned my house air conditioning on.

00:01:10
Speaker 3: Did you really?

00:01:11
Speaker 4: Yeah?

00:01:12
Speaker 2: You you you guys are I don't know, you're not used to seventy one degrees?

00:01:17
Speaker 5: Is not that hot? Isn't that what your house is just normally?

00:01:20
Speaker 3: Maybe it just feels extra hot because it's been twenty degrees for so long.

00:01:23
Speaker 2: They are said, they did say that in like two weeks it'll be like that. Mid February to mid March is supposed to be awful with Yeah, like we may get we may get like snow and all that stuff.

00:01:34
Speaker 3: Again, So there's always a week in February that gets nasty cold.

00:01:38
Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you're gonna get some of that. Drew Kentucky and old Miss tonight. We'll get to but you know, we got other things to discuss.

00:01:46
Speaker 4: Yeah, first, all right.

00:01:47
Speaker 5: So two pieces of show.

00:01:50
Speaker 3: News, all right?

00:01:50
Speaker 5: Are you ready?

00:01:51
Speaker 3: Ready?

00:01:51
Speaker 5: All right?

00:01:51
Speaker 2: Piece one we got yesterday the ratings for Lexington, Yes, and you know we have I don't we haven't talked about ratings on here in a long while because we come in first every time.

00:02:04
Speaker 5: So what is there really to talk about? You know?

00:02:06
Speaker 2: I mean, that's it's very nice, super nice, but it starts to become like what are you gonna say? But I do have to bring these up, okay, because I want to give you the numbers for KSR.

00:02:17
Speaker 3: This past fall in like in Lexington.

00:02:19
Speaker 2: In Lexington men twenty five to fifty four, a twenty six point eight rating.

00:02:26
Speaker 5: That's up seventy three percent.

00:02:28
Speaker 3: From last year twenty six.

00:02:31
Speaker 5: Twenty six. I don't remember it every.

00:02:33
Speaker 3: Oh my goodness, So people in context, it would normally be like a three or of four. No, well not us, not for us, but like talking about a normal show.

00:02:41
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I would say, and this is not to be disrespectful, but if there were other talk shows on other stations, if they got like a three or four, they'd be.

00:02:52
Speaker 3: Pretty happy, be very happy.

00:02:53
Speaker 5: And we got a twenty six.

00:02:55
Speaker 3: Point goodness the people eighteen.

00:02:58
Speaker 2: To forty nine, okay, so this is men and women, okay, eighteen to forty nine a demographic that sports radio does not touch. Women eighteen to forty nine. Well, Ryan, it's just like women to eighteen to forty nine with you in general, like they stay in it way.

00:03:16
Speaker 3: I want nothing to do with that.

00:03:19
Speaker 2: Up sixteen point nine, up one hundred and forty nine percent from the year before. It means over double just what it was the year before, which also was number one. And then finally, people twelve plus. This season includes children, and it includes ninety plus year old senior citizens. Yeah, fourteen point six. That's up fifty five percent from last year. These are I believe the highest ratings we've ever gotten. I can't remember any that were that close. So you might say, well, why do you think they've risen so much? This is gonna be my take, can you tell me?

00:04:00
Speaker 3: Right?

00:04:00
Speaker 2: I think Number one the mood postcal to Pope because this is during the football season, which wasn't very good, right, but basketball was rolling. I think this included during the Duke game and after the Duke game. But then I also think just the overall positivity of everything post me coming back from my hiatus, right, I probably wasn't quite as grumpy. And then the second thing I would say is having Mario Yes to put clips out. I mean, I think that's how you explain so many more young people like they. You know, they don't always think about turning on their radio. Past Paul Harvey, a lot of them may forget they had a radio. And then he kind of reminds everybody, Hey, whatever.

00:04:51
Speaker 5: So those are the things I'm going to give credit to.

00:04:54
Speaker 2: But I want to thank you guys on the show and also the people listening, like that's insane. Those are I can say definitively, those are the highest sports rating any sports show in the United States.

00:05:08
Speaker 6: Yes.

00:05:08
Speaker 5: I remember hearing a show in Nashville once say they got.

00:05:11
Speaker 2: In ten and we're celebrated, and they said, this has to be the highest rating in America.

00:05:17
Speaker 5: Well this was a twenty six. So uh, I just wanted to.

00:05:22
Speaker 2: To share that because that's that is extremely good positive, I mean more than positive, but I did thought you would like that.

00:05:30
Speaker 3: It's awesome, man, and thank you for everybody that helped you.

00:05:33
Speaker 2: Even know, if you're supposed to say that shit. As a matter of fact, I don't think you are.

00:05:36
Speaker 6: You're not supposed to that. You know what, you know, what there? What are you gonna do?

00:05:39
Speaker 5: I mean, Elon Musk got something else to do President now. I don't think he's gonna worry about this. It is pretty exciting.

00:05:47
Speaker 4: So people like the show. We say things we're not supposed to do.

00:05:49
Speaker 3: We're talking ratings, and I think you know, like you said, it is a reflection of the attitude of the fan base. Like even during football season when things weren't going well, there were still monster, great crowds at every game in here at the restaurant before every game. Yeah, people were so excited. And then when basketball started, it just went to a different level.

00:06:05
Speaker 2: Yes, so again, thank you to the audience. I've kind of felt that like that there was sort of a second energy and birth around the show. It kind of reminds me I sort of picked little times. I think the show takes a bounce and I think we had taken one at COVID and now I think that happened again, I agree with that.

00:06:24
Speaker 5: I think it happened this fault.

00:06:26
Speaker 2: Then the second thing is they put out the ratings for the rankings for what are the best shows, you know, the top sports shows across the country. Yes, and we won our demo. The last two years it was like mid Market Morning, you know, mid day shows, a lot of mids right right. This year it came out and they had us third, and I first of all, third is still still awesome. But I you know, the competitor in me, Drew is like, who do those top two people think they are. First of all, they didn't get those numbers. And secondly, yeah, I don't like it.

00:07:13
Speaker 5: I did.

00:07:13
Speaker 7: I felt a little ungrateful when I saw tweets eighteen.

00:07:17
Speaker 2: Yeah, I appreciate our company congratulating this, But Shannon, they never congratulates when we came in first.

00:07:23
Speaker 5: They tweet out when we came in third. But nevertheless, are.

00:07:26
Speaker 4: They celebrating our third? I agree with you, they well, do you.

00:07:29
Speaker 5: Celebrate That's that's my question. Do you celebrate third? I'll be honest. Do you celebrate a bronze in the Olympics.

00:07:35
Speaker 7: I'll be honest. The first time I saw it, I didn't retweet it. Second time I didn't reach to it. A third time I was like whatever. But I you know, I'm not not to be ungrateful for being third, but I wanted to be first.

00:07:44
Speaker 4: We're competitive, we like being on top.

00:07:46
Speaker 2: But I figured out what our problem is, Shitton, for this ranking system, our names are not cool enough.

00:07:54
Speaker 3: You gotta have a cool name.

00:07:56
Speaker 5: Well, you have to have a sports radio name. Okay, we do well.

00:08:00
Speaker 6: Kentucky Sports Radio.

00:08:03
Speaker 5: I think that's a great name. I would agree with you, Kentucky Sports Radio. It seems to like.

00:08:06
Speaker 2: Literally it describes what it is. It is Kentucky sports on the radio. What more could you ask from a name?

00:08:15
Speaker 5: Perfect?

00:08:16
Speaker 2: However, in first place is a show called Ice and Rothman.

00:08:22
Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that's a sexy name. Ice and Rothman. It's a what name sexy?

00:08:28
Speaker 5: You think that's sexy?

00:08:29
Speaker 3: Do you think Ice?

00:08:32
Speaker 5: Ice?

00:08:33
Speaker 6: If you think that's sexy? White too? You hear number two?

00:08:35
Speaker 5: Yeah? Ice? Yeah?

00:08:38
Speaker 2: If fri I's excited about number one, wait till he gets to number two.

00:08:42
Speaker 5: You're gonna have to strap him down.

00:08:45
Speaker 2: Ice and Rothman Now Columbus, Ohio. First of all, good luck to mister Ice and uh and roth Man.

00:08:54
Speaker 5: I don't know who those people are.

00:08:55
Speaker 3: I don't either, but I you know, they.

00:08:58
Speaker 4: Sounds like a tag team hit their music. Here comes Icy.

00:09:01
Speaker 5: I think it sounds like DJ's you go see in Miami. You know what he does? Hey? Girls, where we going to? Not?

00:09:07
Speaker 2: I Roman playing like that's and I just don't feel like that's a sports thing.

00:09:12
Speaker 5: Number two though, hold Ryan back buck Rising.

00:09:18
Speaker 6: Oh wow, that's super sexy, isn't it, Ryan Buck Rising?

00:09:23
Speaker 5: Buck Rising.

00:09:23
Speaker 3: It's like a porn star name.

00:09:25
Speaker 5: You see again, Just leave it out there. You don't have to say this is why we come in third.

00:09:29
Speaker 2: You can't just have to That's what it is. Why can't you just leave it out there? My mom who loves you? Wait, my mom who loves you?

00:09:41
Speaker 5: Goes? Can Ryan not just leave a joke? Okay?

00:09:45
Speaker 2: Look what everybody knows what it sounds like. Just leave it right there. You don't have to say the punchline. Yes, okay?

00:09:53
Speaker 5: Anyway, Buck Rising who last year came in second?

00:09:57
Speaker 3: Second again?

00:09:58
Speaker 5: Second again?

00:09:58
Speaker 3: Where's he from?

00:09:59
Speaker 5: Now?

00:10:01
Speaker 2: He got moved to a different timeslot, so we won't ever, he won't be in our thing anymore.

00:10:06
Speaker 4: That's his real name too, That's not that's.

00:10:08
Speaker 5: That's his real name. You think that's ICE's real name.

00:10:12
Speaker 4: I don't think Ice and Rothman that's their real name.

00:10:14
Speaker 2: Now here's my question. Back to Ice for a second. What grown man has people call him Ice? And how does it happen? Like Shannon, if you came in tomorrow and you said call me Ice, I'd go, Shannon, I already call you the dude.

00:10:32
Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying.

00:10:33
Speaker 5: I mean, way I can call you. I didn't want to call you the dude, but it came with you.

00:10:41
Speaker 2: I demanded, said, what are the scenarios where you just start going by Ice.

00:10:47
Speaker 3: Maybe he was the fighter pilot like top Gun. They had Iceman and top Gun. Maybe that's he's that's his.

00:10:52
Speaker 5: Former Do you think he's a former fighter maybe?

00:10:55
Speaker 3: Or just a fighter period. You know if your if your name's Ice and you're a fighter, I'd be scared of you.

00:11:01
Speaker 4: Is he a former American gladiator?

00:11:03
Speaker 5: That's how you could do it?

00:11:05
Speaker 3: Glad.

00:11:05
Speaker 7: I've seen a picture of him, so I'm pictured muscles he's got.

00:11:11
Speaker 6: Yeah, that's it. Like the blonde tips.

00:11:13
Speaker 7: He does not have blonde he gets off here he goes.

00:11:17
Speaker 2: He does not have have blonde tips?

00:11:21
Speaker 5: Does he roth Man?

00:11:23
Speaker 2: Alright, I'm looking first of all, just right here. Yeah, this is why they shouldn't be number one. I googled up Ice and Rothman. You want to know the first thing that came up the roth Man Orthopedic skating rink.

00:11:38
Speaker 3: That's not gonna help.

00:11:39
Speaker 5: That should not be the first thing that comes.

00:11:41
Speaker 6: Up Ice and rotten egg on my search. That's what can.

00:11:44
Speaker 2: Here is Ice. It's actually roth Man and Eyes. First of all, they should change the day I should be. Man is better than roth Man and Eyes. There you go, short silver first, does have blonde hair.

00:11:54
Speaker 3: That's Ice right there.

00:11:55
Speaker 5: I say, I don't know which one's eyes.

00:11:57
Speaker 4: Neither of them looked like gladiators. So I'm let down.

00:11:59
Speaker 2: So anyway, thank you, uh for we we You know, I feel like when you go to the Oscars and you lose and you go honor to be nominated. But congrats to Ice and roth Man and and Buck Rising, and thank you all for the the record ratings and unbelievable performances.

00:12:18
Speaker 3: That is pretty incredible, and I think Shanon hit on something. The reason we went from one to three is my consistence.

00:12:23
Speaker 5: Why I think.

00:12:24
Speaker 2: The reason we did the reason we did go is because I was told by the person that runs it is that I was off during the This was all of twenty twenty, okay, but nevertheless, I'm still I'm still upset, well, still being inconsistent.

00:12:37
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I always.

00:12:38
Speaker 8: Want to say a big congratulations to you, Matt, Ryan and Drew.

00:12:43
Speaker 6: If you look at the you.

00:12:45
Speaker 8: Want to think that I was even a part of the show, then why weren't you. Here's my favorite part about that picture, Like it's fine, you guys are obviously the show, but like they even cut off my head in the background.

00:12:56
Speaker 6: Like I could even a part of the picture as a.

00:12:58
Speaker 2: Cartoon for people who don't the picture, there's a they have a picture here at the bar, and if you come to the bar, there's a cartoon picture of all four of us.

00:13:06
Speaker 5: Yeah, they they knew it. I don't know who submitted the picture, Shannon. It was not me, by the way.

00:13:11
Speaker 2: What happened is, if you remember the last couple of years, it would only be me. And I said to them, can you put us all in the picture and not just me? And they picked one that's the three of us, and they take the cartoon and they put the three of us and they just cut Shandon's head off the top of the car tooon either Shannon, they did you wrong.

00:13:29
Speaker 6: At least have my cartoon in the your cartoon. Oh my gosh, there's always next year.

00:13:36
Speaker 5: There is always next year. A fun nine two eight twenty two eighty.

00:13:39
Speaker 6: Seven knowledge me the text machine.

00:13:42
Speaker 2: Is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four. I'm glad it gave me a chance to once again say, don't say the punchline.

00:13:49
Speaker 5: Just leave it sitting there. We'll take a break and be right back. This is Chas.

00:13:56
Speaker 3: Walking back.

00:13:57
Speaker 2: It is Kentucky sports Radio. Ice was a female gladiators Shannon.

00:14:01
Speaker 8: Oh, okay, I don't know the reason, though, I think I think they'll spiked frosted tips.

00:14:07
Speaker 5: Yeah, I do too. Like you're thinking of like Mark Maggart.

00:14:09
Speaker 6: Right, yeah, that's yeah.

00:14:11
Speaker 5: There's a name from the past, you know, you know that.

00:14:13
Speaker 2: I mean, if you're looking at like the history of UK lore on the internet, that story cannot be told without Mark Baggard.

00:14:22
Speaker 5: I mean that dude was the original.

00:14:25
Speaker 2: Uh, I don't know. It's hard to describe what he was. He was everything though, I mean he was like he was, It's hard to describe. How would you describe Mark Maggart. He invented the lifetime membership, he did, he invented he charged a lifetime membership and then close the site. Now, wow, that's what happened, isn't it. He started a lifetime and he started a website. It was relatively popular. I don't remember the name of it. He knew an assistant coach around the Yeah, no, he was around the Gillespie era. And then Shannon, he like charged I don't know what it was, but he's like, join for a lot for life, and he did, and then like the site just shut down.

00:15:02
Speaker 6: Unfortunately.

00:15:03
Speaker 5: Well, I have this life, but he didn't say how long in the life is.

00:15:06
Speaker 6: The life of the website? Not not your lifetime, the life of the website.

00:15:10
Speaker 5: Time web is the lifetime of this site, not you.

00:15:15
Speaker 6: It's on life support right now.

00:15:19
Speaker 5: Eight five two eight twenty two eighty seven.

00:15:22
Speaker 2: One person writes, Matt, how can you all have the best writings if they beat you in the other Well, this isn't that's not right.

00:15:29
Speaker 5: It's just like.

00:15:29
Speaker 2: People's opinion, Yeah, right, Like who what they think we talk about during the I don't know how anybody can know.

00:15:34
Speaker 5: I've said that for years, even when we how do you know, Like who's listening to all this?

00:15:37
Speaker 3: They can't be listening to every mid major mid day sports show across the country to you know, be able to vote on this appropriately.

00:15:45
Speaker 5: Yeah.

00:15:46
Speaker 2: I don't think they can't either, Right, you can't o miss tonight in uh what's the name of that place, pavilion, the pavilion.

00:15:54
Speaker 5: It's a business state.

00:15:55
Speaker 2: It's relatively new, very nice. It's like very nice. They decided to make a small arena and make it nice.

00:16:02
Speaker 7: Remember years ago Cal went there and there was like a leak and then a squirrel running around, and they were like, all right, it used to be the.

00:16:08
Speaker 3: Tadpole ers at Smith Arena. That's right now.

00:16:11
Speaker 2: They open this sometimes Morgan Freeman comes yes, Yes, in the front row.

00:16:15
Speaker 5: Yes, So this says, Uh.

00:16:17
Speaker 2: They played Auburn at home this weekend and lost, but I think it was a close game.

00:16:25
Speaker 4: I watched it all as a two point game. Late they pulled away and.

00:16:28
Speaker 5: Pulled away at the end.

00:16:30
Speaker 2: You know, I don't have a ton of confidence in this game. But then again, I didn't have any confidence in the Tennessee game and we won, So I I have no idea.

00:16:40
Speaker 5: Lamtt Butler is out for the game.

00:16:45
Speaker 2: You know, Kentucky's lost three of the last four, so we're gonna have to So what do you think?

00:16:51
Speaker 3: This is one of the games we say every year the schedule comes out, they'll drop a game on a Tuesday night in Oxford, you know, or a Tuesday night in Startfeller, this is just one of those games. He was like in the midweek in the conference. But on this one though, we're four and four. I mean you're talking about when we would go fourteen and four. This is actually like we're four and four.

00:17:09
Speaker 2: We can drop any game. This is not a mid week They're good. They're better than not. So I mean this is good. This is not, at least record wise like, this is not a we might slip.

00:17:19
Speaker 5: We're the underdog in this game. I mean, do you feel like we we?

00:17:23
Speaker 4: I don't feel great.

00:17:24
Speaker 7: I do feel a responsibility to Big Blue Nation, though I'm zero for five picking our last games, so I think I need to go all in on on Old Miss regardless. Yeah, I mean, I had us to go through it. I'm over five. That's it's all matter, So I'm gonna try to be wrong again. I do worry about this game though. They have a couple of guards that are really quick and speedy. They do a lot of pick and roll. One of them just got twenty seven at Auburn. It's the first time i'd really watched them, and he looked awesome.

00:17:48
Speaker 2: So theolation so like and we this is something we struggled to guard early in the year. We've been better and teams have gone away from it, but early in the year we really struggled on the high pick and roll to figure out what to do.

00:18:02
Speaker 5: They're gonna do that.

00:18:03
Speaker 2: That's the only offense they run I mean they kinda they run like an NBA offense in some ways. You know, we don't have Lamont Butler who is our best defender like that. We do have a Mari who's been pretty good at guarding that. How do you think we're gonna do against that tonight?

00:18:20
Speaker 3: I think it's gonna be a struggle.

00:18:21
Speaker 5: Man.

00:18:22
Speaker 3: Yeah, Like Drew said, their perimeter players are their best players. So do you feel confident with Jackson, Bray and Otega out there trying to take care of I.

00:18:29
Speaker 2: Feel confident with Jackson and Otaga. I don't feel confident with Bray at guarding anybody really, but I but I think this has got to be a moment for Mark Pope where he says, look, we're riding these guys like this is a to me, this is a game, Drew, where you just got to take your horses and say we're winning or losing with these guys like we can't.

00:18:53
Speaker 5: I know, I can't see fifteen.

00:18:55
Speaker 2: Minutes of Chandler tonight or like that's just not it's not gonna work.

00:19:01
Speaker 5: We just we have to. I can't believe I'm saying this. We have to do what cal did?

00:19:05
Speaker 2: We have to play guys thirty six thirty seven minutes if we want to win games like this, In.

00:19:10
Speaker 7: My opinion, yeah, Tomri especially, I think he needs to play more minutes, stay out of foul trouble. They're not a great defensive rebounding team like a ranked two hundred and fifty there, so maybe Amari can clean up some glass, but he needs to play well. And it's such a lazy way to look at basketball, but for me going into every game, is Kobe were gonna show up and hit three or four threes or not? Because if you just look at if they're winning and if they're losing, you can almost go to his stat line and he play well offensively. So to win down there, it's gonna be have to be one of those games. Robinson's been in threes since SEC started, But they're gonna need Kobe to get hot tonight because they're.

00:19:41
Speaker 5: Just I want to say about Robinson.

00:19:44
Speaker 2: You know, we early in the year there were a lot of fans hard on Robinson. He's been our most consistent player of SEC play. He has scored sixteen to twenty pretty much every game in the SEC.

00:19:58
Speaker 5: You know, maybe we wish he scored.

00:20:00
Speaker 2: Twenty five sometimes but he's putting up sixteen to twenty every game consistently, and he's basically coming to play every game. He gives you one half every game where he's rolling. But there's gotta be somebody else. I think one of the things that's been difficult is otega Oway doesn't seem to want to shoot anymore, and without Butler, he has to shoot and it needs to go in some but he also has to take them. I feel like he doesn't. I feel like he only wants to go to the basket.

00:20:29
Speaker 5: Now.

00:20:29
Speaker 7: I've been watching Olways threes closer than anyone because of DraftKings, and he does not. I mean, they'll leave him open and doesn't even think about it anymore. Earlier in the season, those non conference games, he was making them. Now they can sag Way off him and he doesn't even consist.

00:20:42
Speaker 2: After like five or six games, he his percentage was fifty percent, and then I think he had a bad stretch of games and now Ranie won't even take them.

00:20:51
Speaker 3: Yeah, that bad stretch. I think I think he's lost he's confidence in his jumper, you know, now he just looks just to drive only. But you talk about Jackson, I want him to be more selfish. I want him to take more. I want Braya to take more shots. They're gonna have to if they have to continue to play without Butler, they're gonna need those two guys.

00:21:06
Speaker 5: Yeah.

00:21:06
Speaker 2: Well, I we've got to get uh, we gotta get more from from In terms of time, I just don't think our reserves.

00:21:16
Speaker 5: I mean, I.

00:21:17
Speaker 2: Think probably in each game one of them, but we can't. We just can't put them in a mass of those three guys, have them play together, Drew and expect work.

00:21:26
Speaker 5: When that happens, we don't stop anybody.

00:21:28
Speaker 2: When we do the massive reserves, we just get scored on every play.

00:21:34
Speaker 7: Yeah, and the point guard defense was supposed to be one of the strengths of the team. Remember Pope said last summer, I don't lose any sleep about guarding sec guards. And it kind of looked that way when they had Butler. But I mean, and it would happen any team. When you lose your two point guards, you're in trouble. And we're fortunately down to just freshmen that are trying to fill in that role against guards who can take you off the dribble and go straight to the room.

00:21:54
Speaker 5: With all that said, we can win.

00:21:55
Speaker 3: Oh yeah, definitely, Oh yeah. I wonder though, with the strength of the perimeter, is this is a game you just may need Chandler defensively, some not a lot, but some.

00:22:04
Speaker 2: I don't just slow under down to play reserves a little bit.

00:22:11
Speaker 3: But you can't play all of them at once at the same time.

00:22:15
Speaker 2: And there might be games that are Noah games, there might be games that are Chandler games, there might be games that are Perry games. But you can't put them all like we just you know, you just can't. We can't we play Chandler fifteen minutes in the second half again. Talk it's like, it's just not that's not gonna work.

00:22:30
Speaker 7: No, yeah, not that it's a big deal, but this was at school Perry was considering. So if he gets some extra minutes that that's a little more maybe pressure on him or or a reason to play well with all.

00:22:39
Speaker 5: That's it. We can win.

00:22:42
Speaker 2: I mean we've beaten we've lost three or four. Yeah, we can beat any of these that This is a huge game for both teams. Both teens have lost three or four coming in tonight eight five nine, twenty two eighty seven.

00:22:52
Speaker 5: We'll take your calls, be right, back. It's KSR. TJ.

00:22:56
Speaker 6: Smith, personal injury attorney called TJ.

00:22:59
Speaker 5: He'll make them pay.

00:23:00
Speaker 8: Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.

00:23:04
Speaker 6: Here's Matt Jones.

00:23:06
Speaker 5: Welcome back Kentucky Sports Radio.

00:23:08
Speaker 2: If I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven, we'll go the phones right here. One person rights on the text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five four. Matt, what do you think we get Butler back? I do now. I think he'll play. I think he'll probably come back. If I were to guess, let's see what are our games here, I think he'll come back. We play at we play Tennis's home, South Carolina home Tennessee.

00:23:34
Speaker 5: I don't think he'll be back for that one. At Texas.

00:23:37
Speaker 2: I would say at Alabama February twenty second. That's I think probably about when they're targeting him playing now. If things fall apart, then maybe her They tried to bring him back earlier. But that's kind of what I think you know right now. The key is they got to grind some victories out here. I mean, they gotta win Saturday against South Carolina. They're probab probably looking at it and saying tonight at Old Men's Tuesday. Next Tuesday against Tennessee, we got to find a way to win one of those.

00:24:07
Speaker 5: I mean, you know, we're adding up losses here.

00:24:11
Speaker 2: We have six and we have more coming, so you know, we gotta make sure we get some wins. I think the Arkansas game. Put the cow part aside. It's a bad loss because they're terrible. Yeah, you know, and we lost at home.

00:24:27
Speaker 7: Ken Palm has Kentucky going three and seven, but the seven losses are all by three points or less. That's how close the analytics produce.

00:24:35
Speaker 2: I mean, if we were to go three and seven, I mean that's seven. That's what seven and eleven in conference. I mean, that's not good, and it's very possible. I mean, the reality is we're probably gonna be an underdog in seven of the next ten games. I don't know if people really process that that we're probably going to be an underdog in seven of the next ten games.

00:25:00
Speaker 3: If you go into the next couple of weeks without Butler, we saw the different team not having him did against Arkansas. You have him against Arkansas, maybe he slows down DJ Wagner a little bit. They're gonna need it they would need him tonight, So huge games on the road without your your leading point guard.

00:25:15
Speaker 2: Mark's story said, you don't be Mark Story wrote in The Hair Leader, you don't become the coach at Kentucky until you have your first really bad loss.

00:25:27
Speaker 5: Do you agree with that?

00:25:28
Speaker 2: And if so, does that mean Mark Pope is now feeling the coach of Kentucky waite.

00:25:34
Speaker 4: I can see that a little bit.

00:25:35
Speaker 7: I feel like he's already got a couple losses, not necessarily bad, but he should have won. And he felt that a little bit, like they should have beaten Vanderbilt at Vand even though it was on the road, he did seem very very confused and lost in his comments after Arkansas though. That was the first time Pope really didn't seem to have any answers or know what to say after a game.

00:25:53
Speaker 5: Yeah, well, big game tonight. Who's at first?

00:25:57
Speaker 6: Shit, let's go to Lloyd.

00:26:00
Speaker 5: Lloyd, go ahead, Lloyd.

00:26:02
Speaker 9: Hey, I was going thank you guys real quick before I get into my vents. Twenty years ago, I was a freshman at UK rightly ks so I was in I guess you could see and y'all were talking about the ready it's just great to see how far you guys have come in twenty years. And to think it's been twenty years is wild.

00:26:21
Speaker 5: It is wild twenty gulation.

00:26:23
Speaker 2: So the first post went up, I believe, I want to say November maybe twenty two thousand and five, so we will have the twentieth anniversary this fall, which that is really crazy to me, but I appreciate you saying that twentieth anniversary of the website and fifteenth anniversary either show or all come in this fall, but go ahead.

00:26:48
Speaker 9: Wow, yeah, that's realazes. So, like I said, UK alone and I remember my first semented as a UK fan was in ninety six. I was watching Action the Mark Pope team win that championship alone in the living room, and that's kind of where it all started. But it's it's this Calipari loss. It's I like to say, Caliperry wins the ego game, right, he wins the games that stroke the ego, but you know, when it matters, he loses them at least of late the last five or six years. So that one hurts, but I'm trying not to let it hurt so bad. But we just need remember DeAndre leggins Man when he was just a dog on d And it's like to see this team is so amazing on offense, they're just so good to have this lacking defense is just heartbreaking, right Yeah.

00:27:41
Speaker 2: But I mean we don't have that, and that's not coming, you know what I mean. I mean, that guy doesn't exist. That guy's not on the roster. Like they're gonna have to win the way they are, you know, Lloyd. I mean, like they're gonna have to find a way to outscore people. That's why you know, you don't hear me talk about like really improving on defense, because it's not to happen.

00:28:00
Speaker 5: These dudes are twenty three years old.

00:28:02
Speaker 2: If they're not good yet on defense, it ain't gonna happen in the next ten games.

00:28:07
Speaker 9: Man. That's just I don't know. It's it's crazy. I played ball and I wasn't great offensively, but I focused on rebounding and playing defense. And it's like, I guess as a new parent, you kind of see your kid you want to it's like you see and you know what they need to do, but you're right, they just can't.

00:28:22
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, this is a different group. I appreciate to call Lloyd. I mean Unlike a lot of teams, Drew, this is a different group in the sense, you know, one thing during the Cali era is you could always tell yourself these are freshmen by March, they'll do this.

00:28:37
Speaker 5: Now, whether they did it or not is a different point.

00:28:40
Speaker 2: I mean, we still are waiting on Justin Edwards to to you know, come around and Chris Livingston, right, but with this group, you I mean, they are what they are, like the you know, these are like fifth and six year seniors, like they are what they are, and so well, it's up to Pope to just say, this is what it is. How do I make it the best that I can? Because it is what it is. This is the group.

00:29:08
Speaker 7: Yeah, And for a couple of guys, that's just how they're built. I mean, they can't learn anymore, they can't develop anymore. Andrew Carr is not gonna get lateral quickness overnight. I mean when we watched him against Grant Nelson at Alabama, you just Grant Nelson had a different set of legs. And Andrew Carr has Kobe brea. His knees are about to fall off. He's giving it all he can. But guys are just gonna blow by Kobe Brea. So Pope has to scheme up ways to play better defense. I wish they'd done a little zone against Arca.

00:29:32
Speaker 5: What did you think about his answer on that?

00:29:34
Speaker 2: So he was asked about the zone and Pope said something like, you know, they get point one five points per possession more by against zone than man, which I get, but like, maybe this is the time you try something else because they're scoring with their on our man as well.

00:29:51
Speaker 3: Yeah, I think he had it when he was talking about that. I think he admitted I wish I'd done some different things defensively. Maybe he took some chances defensively. I think they're gonna have have to. I think they're so weak defensively in certain spots they're going to have to take some chances. You know what's crazy, what three of these guys coming in were defensive players of the year in their conference. Right coming in, I didn't think they would be.

00:30:12
Speaker 2: Well, who's been I think pretty good? Yeah, absent the hands staying on the side, Butler.

00:30:20
Speaker 3: Who's not playing.

00:30:22
Speaker 4: They were better when Butler was there, obviously.

00:30:24
Speaker 3: So who's the third one? What there are three guys?

00:30:28
Speaker 5: I mean you're the one that said there was three those three. Who's up next?

00:30:33
Speaker 6: Let's go to Matt.

00:30:35
Speaker 5: Matt, what's up Matt?

00:30:38
Speaker 9: Yeah?

00:30:40
Speaker 10: I was thinking, am I the only person that thinks Cal's postgame comments actually made it a little bit easier? Everything he said was pretty pretty well true. It was hard to even look at his face immediately afterwards, but once you kind of thick it in, I got my back. This is one game, like where you guys are in your first year.

00:31:01
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, he's always been good at that.

00:31:04
Speaker 5: Like, he's always been good.

00:31:05
Speaker 2: I mean, remember he used to say about our now assistant coach Mark Fox after every game he was one of the best coaches in the country. But he said it after he beat him by twenty, right, Like, I mean that he's always been a gracious winner. I think that's one of his better traits. I don't know, I mean, but what does that change? I mean, I look, I still think long term the trajectory is very positive for this program, But in terms of this year and in terms of like, well, you know, this year, I don't really know that it changes anything for me. He does it for you.

00:31:42
Speaker 11: I think I was more so expecting him to go pull an Auburn stunt and just go bang on his chest and just further infuriate me. But to kind of see him take a breath and phrase it that way and do it with grace, Yeah.

00:31:57
Speaker 5: I appreciate the call.

00:31:58
Speaker 2: I mean part of that is he wants to them back here one day, and if you burn it to the ground on your way out, that's not gonna happen. I mean, he won the game, so it's easy for him to kind of you know, it's well not easy, but he could have been forgiven if he came out there and said, yeah, y'all booed me and but that's the equivalent of a winning version of when Rick flipped us off, and I think that would have made it a lot harder.

00:32:24
Speaker 5: He handled it the right way.

00:32:26
Speaker 7: I really think, whether you think he's genuine or not, an all season when he's given an opportunity, he's been saying the right things. I a little part of me thought there might be a little dig here there. I don't think that I've seen one, but the cal comments really them being so bad is what I think helped everyone with Saturday. The fact what you just said, would anyone really trade places with them if they came in and we had the same record and you had to go watch colgo and all that.

00:32:50
Speaker 4: That's different.

00:32:51
Speaker 7: But all of us in the back of our minds, no, we would not trade places, which is what made that easier.

00:32:55
Speaker 5: It was it was the only time I've heard Mark Pope though Flumi.

00:33:00
Speaker 3: Yeah, he was totally a lot of loss for words on his postgame show.

00:33:03
Speaker 2: It was the only that's the only time I've seen him flummixed and I.

00:33:08
Speaker 3: May may my heart go out to him too.

00:33:10
Speaker 5: Yeah, made me wonder if he was really shocked by what happened.

00:33:13
Speaker 2: Maybe they thought, look, this is gonna be a game we win, and then when we just not only lost, I mean Arkansas led the whole second half and some of the first.

00:33:22
Speaker 7: So he didn't even stick around afterwards. I know it's late and I don't have if he don't have to do that every night, But he did that show and got on out.

00:33:27
Speaker 4: You could tell he was really bothered and shook.

00:33:29
Speaker 5: Yeah.

00:33:29

Oh boy, there now because it's in the afternoon, I can.

00:34:33
Speaker 6: Take my afternoon show there. Then if you want to.

00:34:35
Speaker 5: Take your afternoon show there, you can. I mean, I think it's up to them. Reaction, rapid reaction.

00:34:43
Speaker 2: But he's like talking about how miserable it's gonna be. And I don't know why you're doing that.

00:34:48
Speaker 3: You you're thinking you can do the show Thursday morning before you're a procedure at.

00:34:51
Speaker 2: The third features at twelve thirty on Thursday. So you don't think I can do the show from ten to twelve on Thursday.

00:34:58
Speaker 3: You can do it, but we better put stuff back there by the bathroom set up.

00:35:02
Speaker 2: So you're saying, like you up until the moment it starts, things are happened.

00:35:07
Speaker 3: There's a lot of stuff happening now pleasant.

00:35:09
Speaker 6: This could be really good radio, really good radio.

00:35:12
Speaker 2: No. I mean I'm gonna be on here Thursday, so like if it's happening, it's happening.

00:35:17
Speaker 3: Yeah, there'll be a commercial break.

00:35:19
Speaker 2: But we have a bathroom in the KSR office. That's what I'll use. I probably won't use the the you know, tilted kilt bathroom back there. I'll probably go ahead and use the.

00:35:29
Speaker 5: The one in the in the office. We should I think it's gonna be fights all. It'll be out there.

00:35:35
Speaker 3: Well, that stuff seems to that's why you can do it twenty four hours?

00:35:38
Speaker 5: Now, what is it?

00:35:39
Speaker 2: You can I have to call them today to get the instructions. But you can only have what water and black coffee?

00:35:44
Speaker 5: Is that right?

00:35:45
Speaker 3: You can have chicken of sup bral chicken noodle, soup broth.

00:35:48
Speaker 5: I don't think they told me that. I think I.

00:35:50
Speaker 3: Had that, and I had the maybe jello jello, Yeah, I think you can have jel o.

00:35:55
Speaker 5: You can. Where does one even get jello anymore?

00:35:58
Speaker 3: Stroger a little jelly.

00:36:01
Speaker 5: Car the way I was at Kroger yesterday. Yeah, it was nice. I haven't been to one of those in a while.

00:36:06
Speaker 2: Wow, starting to cook. Well, I mean there's a lot of stuff minie aisles. I went to the one there that's next to campus.

00:36:14
Speaker 4: I got a rooftop.

00:36:16
Speaker 5: Yeah, they got a lot of stuff going on in there, right. Uh, you know it's nice. Asparagus.

00:36:22
Speaker 3: You got some asparagus?

00:36:24
Speaker 5: No, I saw it. I didn't didn't get any of those things.

00:36:27
Speaker 3: So what was in your basket when you checked out?

00:36:28
Speaker 2: I was just looking around, I mean I was I was looking for something specific, but in general, but I just wanted to kind of get a lay of the land before I start really, you know, making it my own.

00:36:38
Speaker 3: Here soon that one's got like its own little soup and salad bar, a little lunch counter in.

00:36:41
Speaker 5: There, and see a salad bar. I wanted to say.

00:36:43
Speaker 3: They've taken it out.

00:36:44
Speaker 2: Since I was looking around for the salad bar. I was gonna eat eat salad for dinner, but I didn't see it.

00:36:49
Speaker 3: I don't think I've been since COVID, so it probably took it out.

00:36:52
Speaker 5: Yeah, but it's it was nice to read to go in a place like.

00:36:55
Speaker 3: That, introduce yourself to a grocery store.

00:36:58
Speaker 6: Where do you find Joe?

00:37:03
Speaker 2: I just I mean, I just don't see it out a lot anymore, like you don't see people when you.

00:37:07
Speaker 4: Don't go to Kroger.

00:37:09
Speaker 2: You saw somebody eating jello, like for real, like, when's last time you had? Besides, like, when's when's last time you had jello?

00:37:15
Speaker 7: I have a Jello brand pudding cups at home.

00:37:19
Speaker 5: When have you eaten jello?

00:37:21
Speaker 4: Jello shots? Probably within the last month?

00:37:23
Speaker 5: Okay, So besides I did jello shots in Nashville. Did you eat no last time?

00:37:30
Speaker 6: It was probably jells like Drews talking about it exactly.

00:37:33
Speaker 5: So that was so you all are making my point.

00:37:35
Speaker 2: But anyway, so I have this colonoscopy Thursday, and it can't I'll just say this.

00:37:40
Speaker 5: I'm not I'm not trying to be like, we don't have to go into details.

00:37:43
Speaker 2: It can't be any more unpleasant than my sickness was last week. I mean, that was the most unpleasant I've felt in a long time. It can't be worse than that.

00:37:53
Speaker 3: Well, I gave you the best advice I can give you.

00:37:55
Speaker 5: Oka, I don't just remember there people, but go ahead.

00:37:58
Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, you can't eat for twenty four hours when people think I'm gonna eat a lot right before my twenty four hour clock starts. Big mistake, big, big mistake.

00:38:07
Speaker 5: Don't do that.

00:38:08
Speaker 4: A lot of people think that that or did you think that a lot of.

00:38:10
Speaker 3: People then they realize that.

00:38:12
Speaker 5: I think it's probably more you thought.

00:38:14
Speaker 3: Admit it, you thought that I did the first time.

00:38:17
Speaker 2: Shandon, do you have the drop of when Randon Raydon when Ryan got his colonoscopy on the air?

00:38:23
Speaker 5: Do you have that drip?

00:38:24
Speaker 3: Yes?

00:38:25
Speaker 6: I do here it.

00:38:25
Speaker 3: Is immediately when we leave here when you had to go get a cheat burger.

00:38:35
Speaker 5: That was a great show.

00:38:37
Speaker 2: I mean, we did a show from the colonoscopy office and you came in and you looked you were so hot, and and the doc I was like, I said to the doctor, like is he good to go on the air?

00:38:48
Speaker 5: And He's like, I think so. And that was what we got.

00:38:52
Speaker 3: We got this Shanta immediately we leave here when you had to go get a cheated burger. I remember the next day sitting and re listening to that show, and I have no memory of any of that. I mean absolutely, it's probably been five years. Do you need to do it again? I just did one a couple years ago. We did a second show there after my second colonoscopy. I didn't want to, that's right.

00:39:14
Speaker 5: You didn't come on the air though on briefly.

00:39:16
Speaker 3: Briefly, and then I think I even fell asleep during.

00:39:18
Speaker 4: Teddy Fells over the head set on.

00:39:19
Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I can't believe you agree to that.

00:39:21
Speaker 7: That stuff gives me anxiety, Like when I gave my wisdom to you thinking out got him taken out and people were telling me what I was saying.

00:39:27
Speaker 4: That still haunts me.

00:39:28
Speaker 5: I don't like Yeah, I would never like you.
