<v Speaker 1>You can also catch the show later with chapters and
<v Speaker 1>timestamps on YouTube.
<v Speaker 3>Hello YouTube. All right, we have a lot to.
<v Speaker 1>Get into, so let's start the morning mess with those
<v Speaker 1>Resident Evil previews. They are popping off right now. They
<v Speaker 1>kind of like are mostly covering what we saw in
<v Speaker 1>that Resident Evil event because you've got to play a
<v Speaker 1>lot of what was in there. But there were a
<v Speaker 1>few key pieces that I took away from my conversation
<v Speaker 1>with you, which again people can watch that. We have
<v Speaker 1>a video up basically a quick look of what you
<v Speaker 1>had a chance to play. And I was very intrigued
<v Speaker 1>by the idea that like the chainsaw kept working after
<v Speaker 1>it dropped, and it had that had ramifications, like physical ramifications.
<v Speaker 1>Can you go over some of the stuff that was
<v Speaker 1>surprising to you.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, grub. I think during the showcase, they showed us
<v Speaker 2>the scene where a zombified doctor starts swinging at Leon
<v Speaker 2>with a chainsaw. In my time with a demo, I
<v Speaker 2>shot the doctor that was wielding the chainsaw and the
<v Speaker 2>chainsaw continued to still be whirring in the background and
<v Speaker 2>just like circling around the floor, and it actually damaged
<v Speaker 2>me because the blade had hit Leon's ankles. Ye, so
<v Speaker 2>I just backed off. Another zombie picks it up, and
<v Speaker 2>then that zombie as she's starting to swing at Leon,
<v Speaker 2>as she like arcs back, the chainsaw lodges itself into
<v Speaker 2>another zombie and gets stuck. So the level of interactivity
<v Speaker 2>I feel like has amped up, and you can specific
<v Speaker 2>this a lot with Leon, where some of the combat
<v Speaker 2>is very situational and depending on the environment. I think
<v Speaker 2>the environment with Leon specifically plays a lot into how
<v Speaker 2>you take care of zombies because in the showcase, we
<v Speaker 2>were seeing that Leon is shooting out zombies' legs. In
<v Speaker 2>the an actual quick look that we posted today, there's
<v Speaker 2>a lot of that, like staggering a zombie, but also
<v Speaker 2>kind of doing like a finishing move style kill with
<v Speaker 2>like a shotgun or a pistol. There's a moment with
<v Speaker 2>one of the bigger enemies because Leon shoots him off
<v Speaker 2>of a ledge that the enemy was trying to climb.
<v Speaker 2>Leon then jumps down in from the top rope grub
<v Speaker 2>with a hatchet to do a final blow onto this
<v Speaker 2>big boy on his head, and it's just whacking away
<v Speaker 2>the combat with Leon. I feel like they've learned everything
<v Speaker 2>from Ari four or five, even parts of six and
<v Speaker 2>the remake of four, that they've just amped it up
<v Speaker 2>in such a fun and exciting way that it does
<v Speaker 2>feel like an action movie.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's uh like again that the kind of going
<v Speaker 1>back and forth between the two styles, I think it's
<v Speaker 1>only going to make that when they when they kind
<v Speaker 1>of hit the high points of each style, they're gonna
<v Speaker 1>hit even harder because you've gone from one valley to
<v Speaker 1>a different mountain.
<v Speaker 3>And uh yeah, I'm excited about that.
<v Speaker 1>You know, it does seem like this is not just
<v Speaker 1>best of both styles.
<v Speaker 3>They are making extreme like.
<v Speaker 1>Improvements to it to to like how Leon Kennedy interacts
<v Speaker 1>with the world. That'll like, that's new. That's a mostly
<v Speaker 1>new system of what you're describing there. It's okay, and
<v Speaker 1>they you know, they definitely showed off the environmental sort
<v Speaker 1>of context sensitive kills of a zombie's head up against
<v Speaker 1>the wall.
<v Speaker 3>Leon's going to smush it. That's what he does.
<v Speaker 1>Lots of smushing heads, and it's like, okay, it sounds
<v Speaker 1>like that system could be even deeper and has the
<v Speaker 1>potential to make each play through or everyone's play through
<v Speaker 1>maybe feel a little bit more unique, which you know,
<v Speaker 1>these are games people will play over and over again.
<v Speaker 1>That'll be great for people who do it that way
<v Speaker 1>as well.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, another thing that we show off in the video
<v Speaker 2>grub is that at least in this segment that Capcom
<v Speaker 2>has presented to us, this psych word or this hospital,
<v Speaker 2>this mansion, it is a shared environment that Grace and
<v Speaker 2>Leon will traverse through. So whatever you don't take care
<v Speaker 2>of as Grace, because the perspective shifts to Grace after
<v Speaker 2>a little bit of Leon time, whatever she doesn't pick up,
<v Speaker 2>whether that's AMMO, whether that's herbs, whether that's killing specific zombies,
<v Speaker 2>those will still be there when your perspective shifts to Leon.
<v Speaker 2>So any potential doors, also, any potential other things you
<v Speaker 2>haven't solved that isn't critical to progressing through the story,
<v Speaker 2>those will still be there for Leon to take care of.
<v Speaker 2>So I could see players also kind of doing an
<v Speaker 2>internal inventory management of like, well Grace is doing okay
<v Speaker 2>on her health on her AMMO because I've managed to
<v Speaker 2>sneak past all these dudes, Let me save this for
<v Speaker 2>Leon further down the line.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that's just like you can already see how you
<v Speaker 1>can start thinking about trying to plan ahead, Yeah, making
<v Speaker 1>sure that you kind of save some stuff for the
<v Speaker 1>other character, or you know, I don't know. It just
<v Speaker 1>feels like Resident Evil zero kind of amped up as well,
<v Speaker 1>a game I never played a lot of, but it
<v Speaker 1>definitely seems like they were trying to go for some ideas.
<v Speaker 1>They're swapping between characters and having an effect on each other,
<v Speaker 1>and they probably have a better idea of how to
<v Speaker 1>do that now with this game.
<v Speaker 2>And I think they're handling the mashing or melding of
<v Speaker 2>the two styles of Resident Evil that we have now
<v Speaker 2>very well, because, as we mentioned, the Leon segments feel
<v Speaker 2>ripped straight out of like a horror action movie, while
<v Speaker 2>the Grace segments still feel very akin to Ari seven
<v Speaker 2>Ari Village, because it is still very pulse pounding and
<v Speaker 2>intense right in your encounters, because Grace just isn't as
<v Speaker 2>combat ready as Leon is. Not to say that she
<v Speaker 2>can't handle herself in a combat situation. She still has
<v Speaker 2>access to guns and everything, but it is definitely not
<v Speaker 2>how you want to approach those situations and Also, I
<v Speaker 2>think folks should know you can play both characters first
<v Speaker 2>or third person. So if you wanted to play Leon
<v Speaker 2>his first person, you can. If you want to play
<v Speaker 2>Grace in third person, that's what I chose to do
<v Speaker 2>during my demo, you absolutely can. I don't think that
<v Speaker 2>takes away from any of the horror.
<v Speaker 3>Though, No.
<v Speaker 1>I mean it might help some people with certain aspects
<v Speaker 1>of it, but yeah, it's still going to be that game.
<v Speaker 1>Did you try Leon in first person? I can't remember
<v Speaker 1>what you said when.
<v Speaker 2>We I did, but it felt wrong.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I was gonna ask. I mean, I bet some
<v Speaker 1>people are just going to want to play it that way. Sure,
<v Speaker 1>I bet more people are going to want to play
<v Speaker 1>Grace in third person actually then want to play Leon
<v Speaker 1>in first But did it do it does the thing
<v Speaker 1>right in first or it's like maybe you do one
<v Speaker 1>of those execution style kills where it pulls the camera
<v Speaker 1>out the third person?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, okay, it it did do that, like one
<v Speaker 2>of the contact sensitive kills, or like you know, when
<v Speaker 2>you stagger a zombie you can melee them, so it
<v Speaker 2>pulled back for Leon's roundhouse. Yeah, grub It's it's just
<v Speaker 2>such a wild and fun time, and I'm not one
<v Speaker 2>to handle horror games particularly well, but I was just
<v Speaker 2>so juiced after playing this. Another part of Grace's gameplay
<v Speaker 2>specifically is that she has these blood syringes I forget
<v Speaker 2>what they're specifically called, but right with their different pools
<v Speaker 2>or from specific enemies, Grace can collect blood samples, and
<v Speaker 2>from the blood samples, she can go and craft items,
<v Speaker 2>so she can craft I don't know how you craft
<v Speaker 2>bullets with blood, but I guess you can in Resident Evil.
<v Speaker 2>But she can also craft health items. But the specific
<v Speaker 2>thing that she can and craft are these other I
<v Speaker 2>forget what they're called, but these other stealth weapons where
<v Speaker 2>if she jabs zombie with them, if the zombie hasn't
<v Speaker 2>seen her, it's like an instant death.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>They like explode, They just explode, like you just zap
<v Speaker 1>them in a microwave.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's it's just really freaking cool. And unfortunately we
<v Speaker 2>didn't have enough time allotted to show off the puzzles
<v Speaker 2>in the demo, but it is your regular decular Resident
<v Speaker 2>Evil style puzzles where you have to find like a
<v Speaker 2>sequence of symbols. You have to kind of like backtrack,
<v Speaker 2>go back to point A point B back to point
<v Speaker 2>A and then oh wait, we gotta go to point
<v Speaker 2>C to find this specific key. And I don't. I
<v Speaker 2>didn't find any of the puzzles to like be too
<v Speaker 2>time intensive or to insult my intelligence. I felt smart
<v Speaker 2>playing through them. And there are going to be a
<v Speaker 2>bunch of like little secrets throughout your your playthroughs to find,
<v Speaker 2>and I don't want to spoil any of that. But
<v Speaker 2>I was having a lot of time, and then I
<v Speaker 2>was just mentally logging when I have to go play
<v Speaker 2>through this game actually.
<v Speaker 1>Be like okay, yeah, that's where that is.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, cool, cool, cool, cool cool cool.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I'm getting pretty excited for this game, which is due
<v Speaker 1>out February twenty seventh. Yes, so we're be a matter
<v Speaker 1>of weeks. Honestly, it's like a month exactly from today,
<v Speaker 1>so I can look forward to.
<v Speaker 2>If folks have any questions, go throw them in the
<v Speaker 2>comments of the YouTube video and I'll try and pop
<v Speaker 2>in and answer them as best as I can, at
<v Speaker 2>least what I'm allowed to within the embargo. It's gang.
<v Speaker 2>It's just very very fun, and there are other twists
<v Speaker 2>and surprises that I'm curious as to how people will feel.
<v Speaker 2>But the game is coming out in just mere weeks away.
<v Speaker 3>Yep.
<v Speaker 1>I think it's going to be a good one. I'm
<v Speaker 1>looking forward to it. You talked a lot about context
<v Speaker 1>sensitive buttons. It took me back to like reading up
<v Speaker 1>on Ockeren of Time as that was coming out, and
<v Speaker 1>help big of a deal they made about that game
<v Speaker 1>having content text sensitive buttons. It's like, Okay, I feel
<v Speaker 1>like we had that before, but now they should have
<v Speaker 1>a prompt on the screen.
<v Speaker 2>Who knows, oh, one more thing before we move on. Grub.
<v Speaker 2>I mentioned this in our quick look or a preview.
<v Speaker 2>I was the first person amongst twelve other games media
<v Speaker 2>people to finish the demo.
<v Speaker 1>I just look, you're we were all a rising tide
<v Speaker 1>at Giant Bomb Lifts all boats. We're all better gamers
<v Speaker 1>because of each other.
<v Speaker 2>I think we are, because, like I knew a bunch
<v Speaker 2>of people in the room. I'm like, oh man, I'm
<v Speaker 2>gonna be stuck here forever because I'm a scaredy cat
<v Speaker 2>or blah blah blah blah. But I should you not Grub.
<v Speaker 2>The Mistbusters saved me.
<v Speaker 3>The Misbusters. Yeah there it is. Yeah, it's got your
<v Speaker 3>mind sharp, Jan, Yes it has.
<v Speaker 2>You sharp the cap cup. People were like, oh, you're
<v Speaker 2>done already. Oh h yeah, shit, Hell yeah, dude, sick great,
<v Speaker 2>great time.
<v Speaker 3>I'm proud of you. Jan.
<v Speaker 1>We know this doesn't matter. It absolutely matters, absolutely.
<v Speaker 2>Because I know everyone else in that room also thought
<v Speaker 2>about it. Yeah, I thought, wait, he's done.
<v Speaker 1>What I'm still figuring out the buttons? All right, let's
<v Speaker 1>go ahead and get on with the rest of the headlines.
<v Speaker 3>Here.
<v Speaker 1>Let's go here. The Nintendo Direct is happening, but it's
<v Speaker 1>a Tomadaci Life Living the Dream Nintendo Direct and it's
<v Speaker 1>happening this week on Thursday for my Nintendo News. The
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo Direct presentation for Thursday, it's for the upcoming Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>Switch game Tomodacci Life Living the Dream that's coming to
<v Speaker 1>both Switch one and Switch to Let's see here. It
<v Speaker 1>will be at six am Pacific time. Jan, I can
<v Speaker 1>handle this one, Okay, you can just stand bad.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Absolutely. It will be approximately twenty minutes long. Hey cool,
<v Speaker 1>I love Tomadaci Life. I want to see more of.
<v Speaker 1>This game is like one of their next big upcoming games.
<v Speaker 1>They did talk about Mario Tennis Fever, which is another
<v Speaker 1>game that's coming up quick for them quite a bit
<v Speaker 1>in their last directs, so they're probably like, Okay, let's
<v Speaker 1>go focus on this switch one game here. Ever, really,
<v Speaker 1>what I'm getting at is do they still have a
<v Speaker 1>big regular Nintendo direct in February or something like that?
<v Speaker 1>And they could, but I guess let's start with Tomadaci
<v Speaker 1>Life twenty minutes.
<v Speaker 3>I'm ready to see more? Are you? Jan?
<v Speaker 2>Yes? As someone that has recently become immersed with the
<v Speaker 2>original Tomadaci Life for reasons that will be revealed soon,
<v Speaker 2>it is such an interesting game that Nintendo put out,
<v Speaker 2>and yeah, the audience that really really likes Tomodacci Life
<v Speaker 2>really really likes Tomataci Life, and it just seems like
<v Speaker 2>such a skewed different audience than that that likes Animal
<v Speaker 2>Crossing or the Sims, because it's it's kind of like
<v Speaker 2>those games, but it's radically different because you're kind of
<v Speaker 2>crafting many episodic encounters.
<v Speaker 1>So I'm curious, do you know when like PBS has
<v Speaker 1>like a a host like Rick Steves or whatever, and
<v Speaker 1>he does like a travel show, but it's a PBS
<v Speaker 1>style travel show. Yeah, and he's he's got it's got
<v Speaker 1>a certain like calmness to it, and that's Animal crossing.
<v Speaker 1>Tomodachi Life is for the reality TV sichos, the people
<v Speaker 1>that want to like see some like overly produced this
<v Speaker 1>didn't just happen, just dirty scenes happening between human beings.
<v Speaker 3>That's Tomodaci Life.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, which I think is going to be very interesting
<v Speaker 2>based off of how when the original Tomadaci Life came out,
<v Speaker 2>we were in a different place than we are now
<v Speaker 2>with reality TV where that's true. Yeah, reality TV has
<v Speaker 2>just proliferated popular culture in such a profound and terrible
<v Speaker 2>disgusting way that is setting us back so many years.
<v Speaker 2>But we can't turn back now.
<v Speaker 1>Grub and we still look, we have Japanese and Korean
<v Speaker 1>competition shows, so we're gonna be fine.
<v Speaker 3>Those are the that's the real reality TV right there.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah yeah, all right, so tobabout your life twenty minutes.
<v Speaker 1>There will be a lot to talk about, like how
<v Speaker 1>you just do basic stuff in this game, Like a
<v Speaker 1>big part of the three DS game was you would
<v Speaker 1>bring in a DS three DS three, you would just
<v Speaker 1>bring in your characters, your mes, And that's not something
<v Speaker 1>that is much of a going concern for them right now.
<v Speaker 1>So I wonder if they have like a whole process
<v Speaker 1>or you'll be able to use your old mes hopefully,
<v Speaker 1>because there's just so many resources to go get famous
<v Speaker 1>people online, and that's part of the fun of this game.
<v Speaker 1>And then I'll just want I want to see new features.
<v Speaker 1>I want to see them like increase the possibilities for
<v Speaker 1>these characters to interact with one another, for their relationships
<v Speaker 1>to get weird, and all these funny things to happen.
<v Speaker 1>But we'll find out here on Thursday and we will
<v Speaker 1>do a talk over of that. As far as you know,
<v Speaker 1>a full Nintendo direct yet to come, it seems like
<v Speaker 1>they probably will still do something. This does feel like
<v Speaker 1>let's focus on that switch one game separately and then
<v Speaker 1>the switch to direct and have a different tone and
<v Speaker 1>have a different focus.
<v Speaker 3>Right.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, Nintendo has an interesting cadence with this as of late.
<v Speaker 2>I mean this past Sunday, they had that specific direct
<v Speaker 2>for the Mario movie. Now they're having this Tolmadaci life.
<v Speaker 2>I could see them spinning up another general direct soon
<v Speaker 2>to promote like the rest of this calendar year for
<v Speaker 2>them and maybe tease like the big thing of the
<v Speaker 2>year for them.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, I hope so, and I think so the
<v Speaker 1>very least s theyill have like one of their in
<v Speaker 1>NINDI Direct things here pretty soon to talk about the
<v Speaker 1>Indie World showcase. Yeah, probably around the time of GDC.
<v Speaker 1>That's usually what happens. So that's, you know, in March,
<v Speaker 1>and then they try to do an Nintendo Direct a
<v Speaker 1>general one before that. Well, we just had a one
<v Speaker 1>for the Mario movie.
<v Speaker 3>We're having this.
<v Speaker 1>I bet we still get one in February, but.
<v Speaker 3>I do not know.
<v Speaker 1>We'll see, but I do know something about this next one.
<v Speaker 1>Sony has a PlayStation stream planned for next month. This
<v Speaker 1>is from Jonas Mackett Game Reactor. Microsoft had their developer direct.
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo's doing the Tomadaci Life thing. So this's got people
<v Speaker 1>to go ask Nate they hate, hey, is they're going
<v Speaker 1>to be a PlayStation state of play in February?
<v Speaker 3>We've heard that? Is that true?
<v Speaker 1>And he says, yes it is. Yeah, I agree, it is.
<v Speaker 1>It's happening on February twelfth, So there you go. I
<v Speaker 1>guess it's probably always safe to say the week of
<v Speaker 1>February twelfth.
<v Speaker 3>Yes, that's right.
<v Speaker 1>The week of February twelfth is what I should say,
<v Speaker 1>because it could that's a Monday, could happen on any
<v Speaker 1>of the days there, But yes, and it sounds like
<v Speaker 1>it's going to be a pretty sizable one, is probably
<v Speaker 1>how I would describe it. Don't expect like the world
<v Speaker 1>because it's a state of play and not a PlayStation showcase.
<v Speaker 3>And the difference, Jan.
<v Speaker 1>Is always this is a little bit more like a
<v Speaker 1>lighter Nintendo Direct versus the showcases from PlayStation, which could
<v Speaker 1>be like their big E three showcases that have all
<v Speaker 1>of these amazing games in them, and they feel like
<v Speaker 1>a responsibility to get those to be as exciting as possible.
<v Speaker 1>These state of plays, it's always worth pointing out, can
<v Speaker 1>often be obligatory. They do them as part of marketing
<v Speaker 1>deals with their partners, like, hey, first party is going
<v Speaker 1>to help market your game, and we're going to pay
<v Speaker 1>for a certain amount. Well, a slot in state in
<v Speaker 1>the state of play is worth a certain dollar amount
<v Speaker 1>and they can put that towards that goal, and so
<v Speaker 1>sometimes you get a state of play that's a little
<v Speaker 1>bit disappointing. I think this one will be somewhere in
<v Speaker 1>the middle. Jan that they got to start setting up
<v Speaker 1>some games for this year beyond Wolverine, although Wolverine can
<v Speaker 1>easily carry it.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, do you expect Marathon to have like a significant
<v Speaker 2>presence during this I forget when Marathon is like scheduled
<v Speaker 2>to come out this year.
<v Speaker 3>I do not know about Marathon. Marathon.
<v Speaker 1>Marathon's out soonish, right, so they probably do focus on
<v Speaker 1>a little bit.
<v Speaker 3>But that is a game that is Marathon in March.
<v Speaker 3>Oh yes, mathon Marathons in March.
<v Speaker 1>Bungeee was supposed to be separate, so I wonder if
<v Speaker 1>they have and they like to communicate separately like they
<v Speaker 1>weren't in several recent State of plays.
<v Speaker 3>They did their own thing.
<v Speaker 1>The game is also coming to Xbox, so maybe they
<v Speaker 1>want to keep the state of play more pure than that.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know, so we'll have to see, But yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I don't.
<v Speaker 2>I honestly don't have any idea of what else PlayStation
<v Speaker 2>has in their back pocket for games or for unannounced games.
<v Speaker 2>At least we could see more what is the not
<v Speaker 2>returnal sequel.
<v Speaker 3>Soros.
<v Speaker 2>We could see more Soros Sorrows. Yeah, yeah, Sorrows. Potentially
<v Speaker 2>you're right about Wolverine, yeah, Greb, I honestly have no
<v Speaker 2>idea what they could be pulling out. Maybe maybe some
<v Speaker 2>like partnered things. I think it'd be absolutely wild if
<v Speaker 2>we see forts Horizon six at a PlayStation showcase, right,
<v Speaker 2>not that they would feature that, but it is a
<v Speaker 2>made a.
<v Speaker 1>Lot of money for everyone involved, so yeah, maybe they would,
<v Speaker 1>but they just had that the developer directs. It probably
<v Speaker 1>doesn't show up here as well, but I could see
<v Speaker 1>it showing up in one of their things later, at
<v Speaker 1>least in a sizzle reel, because it did so well
<v Speaker 1>on PlayStation.
<v Speaker 2>Do you potentially see I see some folks in the
<v Speaker 2>YouTube chat rumbling about that metroid Vania God of War game.
<v Speaker 2>Is there any traction to that being a tangible thing
<v Speaker 2>or is that kind of yeah still out there?
<v Speaker 3>No, No, that's I think that's very tangible.
<v Speaker 1>I think that's actually extremely tangible in terms of like,
<v Speaker 1>should you expect it in twenty twenty six? I would
<v Speaker 1>say absolutely, based on like you know, when I was
<v Speaker 1>tracking it last year and kind of looking at it,
<v Speaker 1>it's like they were thinking twenty twenty five, and it's like, no,
<v Speaker 1>no one making the game actually thought twenty twenty five.
<v Speaker 1>It was some people on the corporate side at Sony
<v Speaker 1>that were like, that would be nice if it was
<v Speaker 1>about in twenty twenty five, and the reality was it
<v Speaker 1>was kind of always aiming for twenty twenty six, so yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I wouldn't be surprised if that shows up in that showcase.
<v Speaker 2>Greb. I'm just gonna say this because I always want
<v Speaker 2>it to happen. Kingdom Heart's four update.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, why when does that happen that you have to
<v Speaker 1>talk about that this year? And if they don't, then
<v Speaker 1>that game is still like ten years away. Yeah, I
<v Speaker 1>think it's well one or the other.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, No, Mura is waiting for a Disney property. He's
<v Speaker 2>waiting for Frozen three to come out, so that's what
<v Speaker 2>he needs. He can talk about whatever characters are in
<v Speaker 2>Frozen three and Moana five. I know we're only on
<v Speaker 2>Moana two right now, but we're also going to get
<v Speaker 2>live action to Moana. Ooh maybe we'll get to Moanas.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Any news on Intergalactic possibly, I would say probably not.
<v Speaker 1>That still feels like it's pretty far away before we
<v Speaker 1>hear about that again.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, like they did.
<v Speaker 1>They spent their money on that big reveal initially making
<v Speaker 1>that you know, that asset, and that was like a
<v Speaker 1>distraction from the development times. So now they're just like,
<v Speaker 1>let's get it done and then at that point we
<v Speaker 1>can have a quick Sprint to launch with a bunch
<v Speaker 1>of new assets at that moment.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, we could potentially get a release date for Marvel
<v Speaker 2>TOCN right, I don't know if you have a data
<v Speaker 2>already action Yeah, I.
<v Speaker 1>Think do we not get a date recently? Can't remember
<v Speaker 1>that that would be possible. They're publishing that game, so yes,
<v Speaker 1>I would expect to hear about that.
<v Speaker 3>In one way or the other.
<v Speaker 1>And if a date, if we don't have it, no date, okay,
<v Speaker 1>so then yeah, that wouldn't be surprising.
<v Speaker 2>Some more character reveals at the very least.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I yes, character reveals, although it's not at EVO
<v Speaker 1>this year. Okay, so maybe or bet some people are
<v Speaker 1>saying they bet they save it for EVO. That is
<v Speaker 1>always an option, but State of Play is also a
<v Speaker 1>very good place or something like that. That game has
<v Speaker 1>a broad enough appeal that they would probably want to
<v Speaker 1>do it for that wider audience. We'll see either way.
<v Speaker 1>Expect that the week of February twelfth. There you go
<v Speaker 1>that kind of I'm not surprised to start seeing like
<v Speaker 1>the headlines about that on Monday.
<v Speaker 3>The news about that did.
<v Speaker 1>Start to go pretty wide over the weekends. So here
<v Speaker 1>we are, all right, jan let's go ahead and take
<v Speaker 1>a break. When we come back. Plenty of more headlines
<v Speaker 1>to get into. If people want to skip out on
<v Speaker 1>these ad messages, you can do so by going to
<v Speaker 1>GiantBomb dot com Last Joint become.
<v Speaker 3>A Premium member.
<v Speaker 1>We put out adre versions of the audio and video
<v Speaker 1>shows that you can get there.
<v Speaker 3>We will be right back. We are back.
<v Speaker 1>It's Game mess Mornings Jeff Grubb, Janachoa, let's get back
<v Speaker 1>into it. PlayStation six release date is likely to be
<v Speaker 1>delayed longer than forecasts suggest. Analyst says that's the correct
<v Speaker 1>reaction to hearing that word PlayStation six. This is from
<v Speaker 1>Chris Sculling at VGC. The release date of PlayStation six
<v Speaker 1>is likely to come later than most forecasts have suggested,
<v Speaker 1>according to a data analyst, David Gibson, senior analyst at
<v Speaker 1>MST Financial who follows this this space pretty closely, posted
<v Speaker 1>a report on his insights on Sony Group's performance and
<v Speaker 1>likely future decisions via its member company, Sandstone Insights Japan.
<v Speaker 1>According to Gibson's report, Sony's sales and Q three of
<v Speaker 1>its financial year for the entire Sony Group, not just
<v Speaker 1>its game division, are projected to be one point eight
<v Speaker 1>trillion yen, which is about eleven point six seven billion dollars,
<v Speaker 1>with operating profit of one point zero four billion dollars.
<v Speaker 1>In terms of the game's division, Gibson wrote that he
<v Speaker 1>believes strong sales of first party and third party game
<v Speaker 1>software supported the company's third party performance, and that as
<v Speaker 1>a result, it's Games and Networks Services segment remains strong
<v Speaker 1>for the quarter. As a result, he said it's third
<v Speaker 1>quarter results are expected to beat market expectations, and then
<v Speaker 1>he goes on to say crucially, Gibson also stated that
<v Speaker 1>he believes PlayStation five successor isn't likely to release any
<v Speaker 1>time soon, and that previous forecast on its release window.
<v Speaker 3>May not be accurate. I think he goes on to actually.
<v Speaker 1>Explain himself, Sony expects the PS five's life cycle to
<v Speaker 1>be extended, and the PS six is release is likely
<v Speaker 1>to be delayed longer than many expected. He claimed, Sony
<v Speaker 1>has yet to give any indication on when players can
<v Speaker 1>expect to PlayStation six. They've never This is not one
<v Speaker 1>where it's like they've even gestured toward it to investors
<v Speaker 1>or anything like that. I think that's smart, Jam, because
<v Speaker 1>as soon as you mentioned that thing. There are going
<v Speaker 1>to be a lot of questions about it, and you know,
<v Speaker 1>first and foremost right now, the burning question is how
<v Speaker 1>do you deal with rising RAM costs? But I think
<v Speaker 1>take everything about the world, you know, like the supply
<v Speaker 1>constraints and the world economy, throw all of that out
<v Speaker 1>like they have a like just a foundational problem. How
<v Speaker 1>do you make the PlayStation six feel exciting compared to
<v Speaker 1>the PlayStation five, because we're already at a point where
<v Speaker 1>the PlayStation four continues to run around and that system
<v Speaker 1>is no good Like the PlayStation four Xbox one X,
<v Speaker 1>these were consoles that that were just slapped together. The
<v Speaker 1>one X is pretty good, but the launch consoles were bad.
<v Speaker 1>But people are still playing on those things. When we
<v Speaker 1>get to a world where it's like the PS five
<v Speaker 1>is being treated that way, the PS five is going
<v Speaker 1>to be good enough for so so, so much longer
<v Speaker 1>that most developers are just going to make games for
<v Speaker 1>the PlayStation five. How do you make the play PlayStation six,
<v Speaker 1>which is probably going to be more expensive than ever before,
<v Speaker 1>feel like something people have to have.
<v Speaker 3>I just don't know, Jan.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I don't know either, Grub. I can imagine there's
<v Speaker 2>a lot of folks out there that are having some
<v Speaker 2>type of buyer's remorse over maybe getting the PS five
<v Speaker 2>Pro or even just the PS five scut please, just
<v Speaker 2>because they haven't had a lot of new games to
<v Speaker 2>play on it versus just going back to play something
<v Speaker 2>like Fortnite or war Zone or whatever other free to
<v Speaker 2>play game, and that there hasn't been too many of
<v Speaker 2>those killer apps to play through. I don't know how
<v Speaker 2>you make a PS six enticing, because then are we
<v Speaker 2>going to go down the rabbit hole or the trail
<v Speaker 2>again of remakes or remasters of these older games that
<v Speaker 2>have that just came out, or these remasters of remasters.
<v Speaker 2>At this point, are we gonna get the last of
<v Speaker 2>us won into re remastered or remade? And you can
<v Speaker 2>only squeeze the juice out of that for so long
<v Speaker 2>until the audience gets absolutely tired and bored. I feel
<v Speaker 2>like we haven't even reached like the full potential of
<v Speaker 2>the PS five yet, and it not claims me inside
<v Speaker 2>to even think about a PS six. And that's that's
<v Speaker 2>before even factoring in any of like supply constraints and
<v Speaker 2>how much that thing is going to cost.
<v Speaker 1>YEP, it's uh, you know, we talked about like will
<v Speaker 1>will they get or will we get a ton more
<v Speaker 1>remasters and remakes?
<v Speaker 3>Probably, But one thing I think is unlikely.
<v Speaker 1>Is a deluge of big triple you know, quad A
<v Speaker 1>games that make these things feel like, oh, this could
<v Speaker 1>only possibly run on this device. They could never make
<v Speaker 1>something comparable on the last generation. And that's already going
<v Speaker 1>away a little bit. But it's not It hasn't gone away.
<v Speaker 1>There's still plenty of stuff we can do on this
<v Speaker 1>hardware the developers are taking advantage of that couldn't really
<v Speaker 1>be done on the PS four in any way that
<v Speaker 1>would have felt good.
<v Speaker 3>But that is going to drastically decline because.
<v Speaker 1>One thing people just aren't, you know, big publishers, big
<v Speaker 1>corporations aren't really making a ton of games like that.
<v Speaker 3>There are the GTA sixes.
<v Speaker 2>Of the world.
<v Speaker 1>There are not many of them, and I think we're
<v Speaker 1>at a point where most publishers don't see that as
<v Speaker 1>the future of putting a ton like hundreds and hundreds
<v Speaker 1>and hundreds of million dollars into a game that can
<v Speaker 1>only be played on a system that someone has to
<v Speaker 1>pay eight hundred dollars for.
<v Speaker 3>That's not a way to live.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, the other part of that grub is I hung
<v Speaker 2>out with some friends that aren't super tuned into gaming
<v Speaker 2>over the weekend, and a lot of them didn't even
<v Speaker 2>talk about owning or PlayStation five. When we were talking
<v Speaker 2>about video games, a lot of it was centered around
<v Speaker 2>the switch and the switch toy because the PS five
<v Speaker 2>at this point, getting one of those and then buying
<v Speaker 2>a game for it or games is just such a
<v Speaker 2>hard ask in terms of your wallet and your finances.
<v Speaker 2>Not saying that which two games are any cheaper, they're not.
<v Speaker 2>But the justification that my friends are having is that
<v Speaker 2>they're playing these smaller games, right, They're playing something like
<v Speaker 2>a eighties two for hours on end because there is
<v Speaker 2>a lot of return for them from their initial financial
<v Speaker 2>investment versus I don't know, firing up their PS five
<v Speaker 2>for whatever game someone plays on a PS five that
<v Speaker 2>isn't a Fortnite yep.
<v Speaker 1>It's you know, when you describe those those friends, that
<v Speaker 1>does make me think, okay, so then what is the
<v Speaker 1>solution for the PlayStation six or the next generation of
<v Speaker 1>PlayStation And they've hinted at it, they are you know,
<v Speaker 1>there's some talk of a handheld, and I think what
<v Speaker 1>they what really needs to happen, is like they need
<v Speaker 1>just to halt the progression a little bit of game
<v Speaker 1>visuals and then the amount of money it requires that is
<v Speaker 1>required to make a game. Yeah, and they don't want
<v Speaker 1>really and do they need to be the ones pushing
<v Speaker 1>hardware forward because they've kind of become the default other
<v Speaker 1>and really the default high end console. So they could
<v Speaker 1>probably just come in and be like, look, we do
<v Speaker 1>have a PlayStation six. We are not getting rid of
<v Speaker 1>the PlayStation five. So if you're happy with that, stick
<v Speaker 1>with it. That's fine, keep subscribing to PlayStation Plus. But
<v Speaker 1>if you want to buy something new, which a lot
<v Speaker 1>of you do, because this is a fun space to get,
<v Speaker 1>you know, fun new toys, we have a handheld that
<v Speaker 1>can play a lot of your PlayStation five games. You
<v Speaker 1>could do it natively, and it's like it's it's not
<v Speaker 1>gonna get any exclusives, it's not gonna be a Vita,
<v Speaker 1>but can play your PlayStation five games.
<v Speaker 3>Can that work?
<v Speaker 2>I think it could. I mean, you and I have
<v Speaker 2>had conversations over the past months of like, what if
<v Speaker 2>we get a PS portal, fully knowing you could just
<v Speaker 2>do the same thing on a Steam deck, but and
<v Speaker 2>I do.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, what if you have a PlayStation portal and what
<v Speaker 1>if I got a new thing?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, exactly. Grab. An interesting thing that I noticed from
<v Speaker 2>talking to my normy friends over the weekend is a
<v Speaker 2>trend of like wanting to play something cute or with
<v Speaker 2>like like characters that are animated or drawn in such
<v Speaker 2>a way that is so different than the hyper realistic
<v Speaker 2>military style shooters or first person shooters. And again, you
<v Speaker 2>know this is this is pulling a very specific audience
<v Speaker 2>of normy people. But I think that's something that PlayStation
<v Speaker 2>has definitely been lacking over the last couple of years.
<v Speaker 2>Is kind of like that mascot to rally behind that
<v Speaker 2>isn't a person. Yeah, and like we've had Astrobot like
<v Speaker 2>two years ago, but ever since Astrobat came out, PlayStation
<v Speaker 2>Sony hasn't really like done anything to support that other
<v Speaker 2>than like DLC a couple months after the initial release.
<v Speaker 2>But like I would, I guess position Astrobot to be
<v Speaker 2>like that Pixar lamp in front of every single state
<v Speaker 2>of play.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah it was Astrobot the way that like did really
<v Speaker 1>well in China or something like that. That's always encouraging
<v Speaker 1>when something like that happens, because it's like, Okay, they
<v Speaker 1>can now use that as a justification to like throw
<v Speaker 1>all in on that and do a ton of merchandise
<v Speaker 1>and all that stuff. And I think that stuff's great
<v Speaker 1>and fun and would love more of it. And if
<v Speaker 1>they have some financial excuse to make it all happen,
<v Speaker 1>I hope they pull the trigger on it. The other
<v Speaker 1>thing is I think they would look at that and go,
<v Speaker 1>we will not be able to figure out how to
<v Speaker 1>like compete with the Nintendo in that space. So why
<v Speaker 1>don't we use all of the anime that we now own?
<v Speaker 1>Because we own all of anime and they're gonna do
<v Speaker 1>a lot of like I think they're gonna do a
<v Speaker 1>lot more anime games here in this next generation.
<v Speaker 2>All right, my dress up Darling Farm simulator coming to
<v Speaker 2>PlayStation six.
<v Speaker 1>It's a beautiful thing. We're finally getting it.
<v Speaker 3>Everybody, it's a show. I'm sorry, that's it, PlayStation six.
<v Speaker 1>I don't need that thing anytime soon, and really I
<v Speaker 1>don't like hopefully we can avoid talking about it too much,
<v Speaker 1>because even that is too much like grub.
<v Speaker 2>What would what would you guess, Tomate given the current
<v Speaker 2>conditions if this thing were to come out in two
<v Speaker 2>years time. How much do you think it would cost?
<v Speaker 1>I mean, I think it would be hard for it
<v Speaker 1>to be less than the PS five Pro. Yeah, and
<v Speaker 1>the PS five Pro is what starting at eight fifty
<v Speaker 1>at this point, so at nine hundred dollars I think.
<v Speaker 1>And then really the one that most people the skew
<v Speaker 1>that most people get is probably a thousand.
<v Speaker 2>It's I think it'd be a thousand with like some
<v Speaker 2>type of pack in. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, they'll find some way to make you feel like
<v Speaker 1>you're getting value.
<v Speaker 3>But yes, brother, uh that's right. Uh okay.
<v Speaker 1>High Guard global release times confirmed ahead of launch showcase.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Vicky Blake at IGN, debuting at the
<v Speaker 1>Game Awards twenty twenty five, with an end of show
<v Speaker 1>revealed trailer. High Guard is a new free to play
<v Speaker 1>PvP raid shooter handling from some of the creators of
<v Speaker 1>Response Apex, Legends and Titan Fall. It is out today
<v Speaker 1>in like a couple of hours, I think.
<v Speaker 3>Let's see here.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, it's out at one pm Eastern time, and that
<v Speaker 1>means ten am Pacific time, and.
<v Speaker 2>That means it's High Guard Day.
<v Speaker 1>It's High Guard Day. Here at Giant Bomb we are
<v Speaker 1>not being paid to play this game. We might be
<v Speaker 1>the only ones on the internet today not being paid
<v Speaker 1>to play this game, but we're not. We were just
<v Speaker 1>doing our jobs and covering video games. I there was
<v Speaker 1>a lot of previews, a lot of people other than
<v Speaker 1>and they're gonna have an event and then the game
<v Speaker 1>is just available. People seem to like it.
<v Speaker 3>I don't know. I need to try it for myself.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I'm not gonna lie. The one thing I'm worried
<v Speaker 2>about is team cooperation when we play it today, and
<v Speaker 2>people playing to specific roles and everything and properly using abilities.
<v Speaker 2>That's all I'm worried about today in High Guard.
<v Speaker 1>You know, I hope it's just early days for everybody.
<v Speaker 1>So if we play a little bit unpredictable, that'll be
<v Speaker 1>to our.
<v Speaker 2>Benefits, right, Well, we will make the meta.
<v Speaker 1>Grub, Yes, we are establishing the meta Giant Bomb. Giant
<v Speaker 1>Bomb Meta is going to be the early one that
<v Speaker 1>everyone's gonna remember when they were like, oh remember the
<v Speaker 1>Giant Bomb meta days.
<v Speaker 3>I was when the game was best, all right, So yeah,
<v Speaker 3>that's out later today, we'll play it.
<v Speaker 1>We'll check us out on the site here in a
<v Speaker 1>little bit that that does mean Monday Mornings Missed with
<v Speaker 1>Mitch is going to happen on Tuesday, right, Jan, we
<v Speaker 1>said that after the BombCast.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, maybe like half an hour after the BombCast tomorrow. Yes,
<v Speaker 2>all right, sounds good.
<v Speaker 3>I just.
<v Speaker 1>Pulled a muscle in my abdomen trying to hit the
<v Speaker 1>mute button on Mike Goxler, So I think I needed
<v Speaker 1>to do some more stretches before the show.
<v Speaker 3>Jan, I think that's where I'm at.
<v Speaker 1>Banjo Kazuoi's native PC port is here and it's fantastic
<v Speaker 1>on the Steam Deck. This is from steam Deck HQ.
<v Speaker 1>Over the past few years, we've been seeing more and
<v Speaker 1>more games from Nintendo sixty four Eric getting decompiled and
<v Speaker 1>then later turned into native PC ports. We've seen this
<v Speaker 1>with Majora's Mask and ow Karina Time, Super Mario sixty
<v Speaker 1>four and Been Perfect Dark, which have all had ports,
<v Speaker 1>and those ports were enhanced with higher frame rate support,
<v Speaker 1>better resolutions support, higher visual quality and more.
<v Speaker 3>And now Bansho Kazui is getting the same thing.
<v Speaker 1>As always with these things, you're like, oh my god,
<v Speaker 1>you can't well, Nintendo's gonna shoot these people and take
<v Speaker 1>this down. They do have a layer of protection against
<v Speaker 1>them or for them here and that. This is how
<v Speaker 1>these decapiles work. You need to provide the copyright and
<v Speaker 1>material yourself. You need to provide your own video game
<v Speaker 1>backup file, your own ROM that you got from your library,
<v Speaker 1>and you put it in the little device and you
<v Speaker 1>get the BROM file and then you insert that, you
<v Speaker 1>inject that into their stuff here, and then the game
<v Speaker 1>works and that.
<v Speaker 3>I always think.
<v Speaker 2>That's like Papa John's right.
<v Speaker 3>It's it's like Papa John's.
<v Speaker 1>Wait, how is it like Papa John's there injecting the
<v Speaker 1>cheese in there or something?
<v Speaker 2>What isn't Papa John's the place you take?
<v Speaker 1>I think your Mama Murphy's. I think is what that like?
<v Speaker 1>I get confusion? Papa Papa Murphy's, Okay, Papa Murphy's. They're
<v Speaker 1>both papas. So yeah, I am a big fan of
<v Speaker 1>Banjo Kazui. This is one of those ones where it's like, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>this one's worth going back to. In sixty four is
<v Speaker 1>hard for some people to go back to. This should
<v Speaker 1>solve a lot of that. This is gonna look really good,
<v Speaker 1>play really nice.
<v Speaker 2>Never played any of the banjos grub so I might
<v Speaker 2>try and pick this up. Check it out.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, and you know, this is the situation where we
<v Speaker 1>did that Mario sixty four stream, and that was using
<v Speaker 1>the decompiled and PC ported version of the game. That's
<v Speaker 1>been just people are doing all kinds of crazy stuff
<v Speaker 1>to it, including building this co op mode for Mario
<v Speaker 1>sixty four, and then there's a list of mods that
<v Speaker 1>work for that co op game. And I would expect
<v Speaker 1>Banjo Kazui to get a lot of the same treatment.
<v Speaker 1>So maybe a multiplayer Banjo stream would be a lot
<v Speaker 1>of fun. I would I would look forward to that.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, after seeing that recreation of Banjo KAZUOI and Dreams
<v Speaker 2>a couple weeks ago, that's right. Yeah, I've been intrigued
<v Speaker 2>by the baron with the backpack.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that's one of those franchises that, like, over the
<v Speaker 1>last couple of years, it was like, no Xbox is
<v Speaker 1>doing that. They're green lighting a Banjo Kazui three D
<v Speaker 1>platform or sequel, they're making it, and who's making it,
<v Speaker 1>we don't know, And that's gotten quiet. I wonder if
<v Speaker 1>that's one of those projects that just got canceled or
<v Speaker 1>never really got off the ground. But I would not
<v Speaker 1>expect them to do anything with Banjo anymore. I just
<v Speaker 1>don't have faith in Microsoft to pull that off, So
<v Speaker 1>the community community's going to do cool stuff with it instead.
<v Speaker 3>That's great.
<v Speaker 1>Yoshi and Birdo arrive in new trailer for the Super
<v Speaker 1>Mario Galaxy Movie, along with an earlier release date. This
<v Speaker 1>is from Cheyenne MacDonald at ngadget. There's a new trailer
<v Speaker 1>for the upcoming Super Mario movie, the Super Mario Galaxy Movie,
<v Speaker 1>and it confirms some beloved characters are joining the crew
<v Speaker 1>for its latest adventure. The trailer provides our first look
<v Speaker 1>at look at Yoshi in the new movie, whose appearance
<v Speaker 1>was leaked back in the fall by a pills very
<v Speaker 1>cookie box design, and just as exciting, we also see
<v Speaker 1>Burdo in the mix. The trailer was released during Nintendo's
<v Speaker 1>The Super Mario Galaxy Movie direct The short event also
<v Speaker 1>confirmed that the movie is now in post production. While
<v Speaker 1>a previous trailer set the release date at April third,
<v Speaker 1>the movie is now scheduled to come out two days earlier,
<v Speaker 1>on April first. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie stars Chris
<v Speaker 1>Pratt as Mario, a bunch of others and Benny Safty
<v Speaker 1>as Bowser Junior. Still don't forget that very important.
<v Speaker 2>Folks are pointing out that Mauser was also there. Really, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>apparently I see that.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, all right, I'm googling. I gotta see this for myself.
<v Speaker 1>Let's go to google Mouser Super Mario Galaxy movie.
<v Speaker 3>That would be very very cool because.
<v Speaker 1>That is a character that I was like, Oh, if
<v Speaker 1>they were to pull any character, put Mouser in there,
<v Speaker 1>and oh my god, that's Mouser. That's a little mouse
<v Speaker 1>with cool dude sunglasses. He's a mouse threw bombs at
<v Speaker 1>you and Super Mario Brothers to everybody. Now, most people
<v Speaker 1>would not remember him because the way you play Super
<v Speaker 1>Mario Brothers two is in that one stage on World
<v Speaker 1>two you get the magic potion, you take it through
<v Speaker 1>the whole stage, you drop it, you go through the door,
<v Speaker 1>and then you go down the pipe in the negative
<v Speaker 1>world and then or in subcon actually I think it's
<v Speaker 1>what it's called short for subconscious Jan, And that takes
<v Speaker 1>you later into the game and you skip a bunch
<v Speaker 1>of levels, and so you don't see.
<v Speaker 3>Mouser, who's just very cool.
<v Speaker 1>It took me a long time to go back to
<v Speaker 1>those Mario games Jan and play them level by level
<v Speaker 1>as a kid. It never occurred to me. I'm like,
<v Speaker 1>I'm supposed to beat the game. I'm just gonna do
<v Speaker 1>this thing to skip most of the game, And then
<v Speaker 1>later I played through the actual levels and turned out
<v Speaker 1>those games were very, very good.
<v Speaker 3>It turns out.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, sorry, Greg, I'm watching the trailer as we're talking here.
<v Speaker 2>Please movie look good, Yoshi.
<v Speaker 3>It looks really pretty.
<v Speaker 2>Birdos just like dumping on Peach with some eggs. I
<v Speaker 2>think we're gonna get a Frog Mario for a second
<v Speaker 2>at least.
<v Speaker 3>That's that's yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, there's a Frog Luigi suit here there in this okay,
<v Speaker 1>yeah yeah, and then a lot of fun stuff.
<v Speaker 2>At the very end of the trailer, it looks like
<v Speaker 2>we see baby Mario and Baby Luigi.
<v Speaker 1>That feels like they are just going and picking things
<v Speaker 1>from a bunch of different games.
<v Speaker 3>Like that's so this is the Super Mario Galaxy movie.
<v Speaker 1>But there is already a ton of references to Super
<v Speaker 1>Mario Odissey, the Toronto source Rex from Super Mario Odyssey
<v Speaker 1>is in this movie trailer, like has a big, like
<v Speaker 1>a role in here where he just is part of
<v Speaker 1>the joke. I was not expecting them to also go
<v Speaker 1>back and do Super Mario Brothers three and especially Super
<v Speaker 1>Mario Brothers two.
<v Speaker 3>But why not?
<v Speaker 1>I think that is like one of the fun things
<v Speaker 1>of that that that movie. Honestly, the funnest thing were
<v Speaker 1>the references, because it's kind of like an okay movie
<v Speaker 1>otherwise pretty forgettable, but as a sort of vehicle for nostalgia,
<v Speaker 1>it actually did a pretty good job at that.
<v Speaker 3>And if you're going to take that.
<v Speaker 1>Route still, why not get a little bit deeper with
<v Speaker 1>it because the audience clearly knows how to appreciate it.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I feel like there is also for as much
<v Speaker 2>as we don't really talk about Mario lore, there is
<v Speaker 2>a lot of like different references and an obscene amount
<v Speaker 2>of games to pull through. They haven't even pulled the
<v Speaker 2>Warrio lever yet.
<v Speaker 1>No, right, I feel like Warrio is a post credits
<v Speaker 1>reveal in this movie. You know, there's always a chance,
<v Speaker 1>like he's like pulling the lever behind Bowser Junior. I
<v Speaker 1>think they might. I'm getting the sense based on some
<v Speaker 1>of these characters here, then maybe that's gonna be Wart.
<v Speaker 1>If there's another big bad that shows up, it would
<v Speaker 1>probably be Wart from Super Marito Brothers too, And then
<v Speaker 1>you have Warrio as sort of the The thing is
<v Speaker 1>the problem for is those references in those sort of
<v Speaker 1>like teases. Even Warrio you drop that, and I think
<v Speaker 1>there's a lot of grown men like me, you go yeah,
<v Speaker 1>And it doesn't have the same effect as Amy popping
<v Speaker 1>up at the end of a Sonic movie in the
<v Speaker 1>post credit scene, sure, where there's a bunch of kids
<v Speaker 1>who are just like, well, this is the most important
<v Speaker 1>thing that's ever happened to me, and I have to
<v Speaker 1>be there for the next movie.
<v Speaker 3>It's like Mario's a big star.
<v Speaker 1>The rest of the cast doesn't have the same effect
<v Speaker 1>on its audience as I think the Sonic cast.
<v Speaker 2>Sure, Like, I don't know if Princess Daisy showing up
<v Speaker 2>would have as much fanfare as Amy.
<v Speaker 1>Rose, right, I agree, Yeah, So we'll see that works.
<v Speaker 1>If that works with them. I kind of hope they
<v Speaker 1>still go that route because that would be fun for me.
<v Speaker 1>But I don't know if that if that's necessarily necessarily
<v Speaker 1>going to serve their purposes of being able to set
<v Speaker 1>up these billion dollar movies going forward. All right, ray
<v Speaker 1>Man thirtieth Anniversary edition rated in Australia. This is from
<v Speaker 1>sal Remont at Gematz, who Australian classification has rated the
<v Speaker 1>unannounced ray Men thirtieth Anniversary edition for PlayStation five and Switch.
<v Speaker 1>The developer and publisher are both listed as Atari, and
<v Speaker 1>people are like, that's weird because this is a Ubisoft thing.
<v Speaker 1>To me, that just says, oh, this is a Digital
<v Speaker 1>Eclipse sort of deal, or like, does Atari own any
<v Speaker 1>of they owned some of these other ones. They own
<v Speaker 1>night Dive, but that wouldn't be Night Dive. This would
<v Speaker 1>be Digital Eclipse, that is them. This is probably a
<v Speaker 1>collection of older two D, maybe some early three D
<v Speaker 1>ray Man games, And I think that's great because Digital
<v Speaker 1>Clips would be very good at that, but I wouldn't.
<v Speaker 3>Expect too much more.
<v Speaker 1>Although man a Rayman sort of gold Gold edition one
<v Speaker 1>of those things they've done for Atari in general and
<v Speaker 1>for like Jordan Meckner where it's like, let's look at
<v Speaker 1>one of these games and do a whole in game
<v Speaker 1>documentary like Tetris fifty or whatever it is, that would
<v Speaker 1>be awesome for Rayman. I really, any of those mascot
<v Speaker 1>platformers would be ideal, but this one especially, I think
<v Speaker 1>there's so much cool stuff that they could pull on
<v Speaker 1>to tell cool stories about how this got made, and
<v Speaker 1>you know, just making games back then. That's me getting
<v Speaker 1>my hopes up. If it's just a collection, Jen, that
<v Speaker 1>would be pretty cool. And this is in addition to
<v Speaker 1>I guess they are also going to re release the
<v Speaker 1>more modern ray Man platformer games, so that's happening in
<v Speaker 1>addition to this.
<v Speaker 2>Those modern Rayman games, those were like four players, right, yes,
<v Speaker 2>they were, like that was the big hook is that
<v Speaker 2>they were like four player cooperative ones and they did
<v Speaker 2>it a lot like smarter than Mario, where there was less.
<v Speaker 3>Collision, if no collision, so.
<v Speaker 1>It was like you could actually cooperate and the jumping
<v Speaker 1>was floating and that actually helped because it made it
<v Speaker 1>easier to sort of spot your landing when all the
<v Speaker 1>chaos was happening around you. And the Mario games, like
<v Speaker 1>on WE, the four player Mario New Super Mario Brothers,
<v Speaker 1>WE was kind of unplayable as a multiplayer game, right,
<v Speaker 1>You just were bouncing off each other and it was chaos.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I hey, I'm always down for more ray Man.
<v Speaker 2>I'm I'm I'm glad that we can even get this
<v Speaker 2>remaster because Ubisoft doesn't know what the fuck they're doing
<v Speaker 2>at all, So I'm glad that someone can step in
<v Speaker 2>and get this out there. Grab another breaking news story
<v Speaker 2>that folks have been dropping in the chat o hit.
<v Speaker 2>This comes from Chris Scullion reading off of Video Games
<v Speaker 2>Chronicle here. GTA six may not have a physical version
<v Speaker 2>on day one to avoid leaks, according to reports, that's
<v Speaker 2>most of the story. But wild, I get it, grub,
<v Speaker 2>because we've seen games get delivered early, mom and pop
<v Speaker 2>shops releasing a game before release date just so that
<v Speaker 2>the game is on the street. We could have seen theft,
<v Speaker 2>actual theft, grand theft a grub trucks.
<v Speaker 3>Yes, that's actually not a bad point.
<v Speaker 1>But I think that this, uh, this says it all
<v Speaker 1>right here, uh, that this is the future. They do
<v Speaker 1>not see physical game sales as the future, uh, because
<v Speaker 1>you know this would be something that would be impossible
<v Speaker 1>a few years ago, where it's like, well, we can't
<v Speaker 1>miss out on those physical sales.
<v Speaker 3>That would be that would hurt the bottom line too much.
<v Speaker 1>And now we've clearly crossed over the line on the
<v Speaker 1>spreadsheet on the other side where it's like, yeah, no,
<v Speaker 1>we'll notice a hit, but the amount of headaches it
<v Speaker 1>might save us from the game not leaking early would
<v Speaker 1>is we think that's worth the cost. And you know
<v Speaker 1>the other thing here is like they're they believe they
<v Speaker 1>that grand Theft Auto six is their opportunity to get
<v Speaker 1>away with whatever they want to try to get away with.
<v Speaker 2>So this game labor practices union but one yes, like
<v Speaker 2>the yes, God that story.
<v Speaker 1>People should go watch all those people make make games
<v Speaker 1>of videos. He's been doing excellent reporting. He was already
<v Speaker 1>embedded with those people before this happened. He was going
<v Speaker 1>to do a story about unionization at Rockstar and then
<v Speaker 1>they fired them all. He was in a perfect position
<v Speaker 1>and he's been doing excellent work. It is a baffling
<v Speaker 1>that that company thought they're going to be able to
<v Speaker 1>get away with this. That tells you actually the whole
<v Speaker 1>story is right there. This game is certainly going going
<v Speaker 1>to be one hundred dollars, like it is going to
<v Speaker 1>be one hundred dollars at least because they think they
<v Speaker 1>can get away with anything with this one.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah yeah, And just think about how big that download
<v Speaker 2>is going to be.
<v Speaker 3>Grub.
<v Speaker 2>They're going to be poor folks waiting all day that
<v Speaker 2>took the day off to play GTA six and they're
<v Speaker 2>gonna depending on internet connections and server stability, they just
<v Speaker 2>may be sitting there wasting the day off that they
<v Speaker 2>took trying to download this game.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, it's I mean, there'll be like pre downloads and
<v Speaker 1>stuff like that, but you know that also locks people in,
<v Speaker 1>right that The other thing here, I bet they look
<v Speaker 1>at the numbers and the probably the biggest number of
<v Speaker 1>people who trade in the game are the people who
<v Speaker 1>bought it on day one.
<v Speaker 3>Like that.
<v Speaker 1>I bet that's what they are looking at, Like we
<v Speaker 1>can maybe mitigate that as well. This is, uh, this
<v Speaker 1>is gonna be an interesting year because called Duty Grand
<v Speaker 1>Theft Auto is still going to dictate so much of
<v Speaker 1>the conversation, and I think that conversation is going to
<v Speaker 1>continuously be this is their biggest golden goose and they
<v Speaker 1>are They're gonna like get every possible golden egg out of.
<v Speaker 3>The thing that they fucking can. And it's gonna be
<v Speaker 3>kind of.
<v Speaker 1>It's got I can imagine it getting pretty miserable pretty
<v Speaker 1>quick over here.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, And I am not excited for the world we
<v Speaker 2>will live in post GTA six, where other publishers will
<v Speaker 2>be trying to push their game for one hundred dollars
<v Speaker 2>if not more, and trying to justify that like who's
<v Speaker 2>to say the next call of duty that they're just
<v Speaker 2>gonna market the shit out of that, Like this is
<v Speaker 2>the ultimate call of duty. We heard you from blop seven.
<v Speaker 2>This one is one hundred dollars and not even having
<v Speaker 2>that like that wind that preview window of like pre
<v Speaker 2>orders get it a week ahead or a couple of
<v Speaker 2>days ahead. This is just one hundred dollars right out
<v Speaker 2>the gate for everyone, no extra bonuses.
<v Speaker 3>Yep. It's yeah.
<v Speaker 1>This thing can get away with anything, and it's going
<v Speaker 1>to sell as much as it possibly can kind of
<v Speaker 1>no matter what. So I think it's hard for them
<v Speaker 1>to put themselves in that position and not take advantage
<v Speaker 1>of it.
<v Speaker 3>And so here we are.
<v Speaker 1>It could be there could be no physical copy at
<v Speaker 1>launch for Grand Theft Auto six, And if that's the case,
<v Speaker 1>I still think the thing just sells like it normally
<v Speaker 1>would for the most part, and maybe there's a small dent.
<v Speaker 1>Otherwise they're still gonna make all the money in the world.
<v Speaker 3>All right, That does it.
<v Speaker 1>We do not have a poll question from Friday because
<v Speaker 1>we did the Bomb twelve, but we do have the
<v Speaker 1>updated Bomb twelve upon giant bomb dot com. If you
<v Speaker 1>scroll down just a little bit. By going to giant
<v Speaker 1>bomb dot com, you will find the most recent Bomb
<v Speaker 1>twelve the games have updated there. There's also a link
<v Speaker 1>on the left hand side. You can click there and
<v Speaker 1>submit your game for whatever you're playing this week, and
<v Speaker 1>that will have an impact on the Bomb twelve we
<v Speaker 1>do on Friday to end out to end out our
<v Speaker 1>week here at Giant Bomb. So with all that out
<v Speaker 1>of the way, let's talk about what we have happening
<v Speaker 1>on the website.
<v Speaker 3>Jan We are playing High Guard.
<v Speaker 2>Right, Yes, We're gonna do our best to play High
<v Speaker 2>Guard today. We moved Monday Morningsmissed with Mitch to Tuesday.
<v Speaker 2>I think Mike still might have a Mega Man planned
<v Speaker 2>for later today, but depending on how long we go
<v Speaker 2>for High Guard, that may affect that. We have a
<v Speaker 2>from the Top quick Look dropping tomorrow. Greb and I
<v Speaker 2>recorded that before last weekend. As Greub mentioned to the
<v Speaker 2>tippy Top, we have a film in forties that just
<v Speaker 2>got to edit together. We did it of over Ricky
<v Speaker 2>Oh and then game BombCast tomorrow. Game this Morning's Wednesday,
<v Speaker 2>Thursday Friday, as per usual, also another new game for
<v Speaker 2>the Blightening Round, grub Grub Price survived being underwater and
<v Speaker 2>now Mike has emerged from the depths to finally play
<v Speaker 2>another game on blike Club.
<v Speaker 1>I know he's slacking. Days are finally over. I am
<v Speaker 1>looking forward to whatever he's playing. And it looks so
<v Speaker 1>cool Jay, you saw it now. I saw He's gonna
<v Speaker 1>look so fucking cool dump Truck as well.
<v Speaker 2>UPF. We haven't figured out UPF yet, but we will
<v Speaker 2>get in there.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, we'll get to figuring it out.
<v Speaker 2>I kind of want to play Deadlock.
<v Speaker 3>No, I would do that. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I enjoyed myself when I was playing Deadlock.
<v Speaker 3>But who knows.
<v Speaker 1>Maybe we'll be so obsessed with High Guard. Yeah, and
<v Speaker 1>I we'll just have to go back to that over
<v Speaker 1>and over for the rest of the week.
<v Speaker 3>We'll see. I hope High Guard is great. I really do.
<v Speaker 1>I can't imagine a world where it's like a game
<v Speaker 1>that could be a Game of the year something like that, right,
<v Speaker 1>not that it needs to be, of course, Just like
<v Speaker 1>there was a time where Overwatch came out and it
<v Speaker 1>was like the consensus game of the year for a
<v Speaker 1>lot of people. That world is like if Overwatch came
<v Speaker 1>out today, you know, you know, if that if you
<v Speaker 1>could make the timeline work in such a way it
<v Speaker 1>would not be able to win Game of Year because
<v Speaker 1>people are just done with those games.
<v Speaker 3>But I think it could still succeed.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean I could have seen a world where
<v Speaker 2>something like Arc Raiders one Game of the Year or
<v Speaker 2>maybe Hell Divers two could get close to the top,
<v Speaker 2>but at least in the way that our staff is skewed.
<v Speaker 2>I just don't see it getting that far. But I
<v Speaker 2>hope it's fun. I hope it's a hope it's a
<v Speaker 2>good time.
<v Speaker 1>Absolutely all right. I think that's gonna do it for us. Chan,
<v Speaker 1>thank you so much for hanging out with me today
<v Speaker 1>and talk about video games. Were telling me all about
<v Speaker 1>Resident Evil Man once again. People can find that on
<v Speaker 1>the site.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, if you have any questions on anything in that preview,
<v Speaker 2>go drop those in the comments and I'll sort through
<v Speaker 2>the comments and try and answer any miscllaneous questions there.
<v Speaker 2>But thank you for having me on Monday Grub.
<v Speaker 3>Of course, use anytime.
<v Speaker 1>Thank you all for watching and listening. You are the
<v Speaker 1>best audience in gaming. Until next time, have a good one,
<v Speaker 1>take care of yourself and goodbye.
