Speaker 1: M hm. Welcome to episode to fifty two. We're gonna talk about a few things. First thing is always we'll talk about new music coming out this week. I guess our style now is to put these out on Friday, yep, which I think works except for Mike and are both on vacation today. But to be fair, we came in and did some stuff when Chartered Daniels passed away. So yeah, but we definitely woke up earlier than normal. See this is how much we care. We came in on vacation. Vacation. Yeah, well, I've actually had a pretty good one. We went to big cedar um like near Branson that I have, you know, a couple of deals, not personally, but the show has a deal with Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's. It's one of our big sponsors. And then the opera show that I do and produce, that's one of our big sponsors. So you know, I've gotten to know Johnny Morris, the guy who owns and runs Bass Pro Shop, owns is Worth. I googled it just because I was curious. He worth four billion dollars. Wow. Yeah, but he owns all that up there, and you know he's he loves his home, he loves where he's from. I was talking to him when we're up there, and he said, because I think he's seventy four years old now, but he said, you know table wrong lake when the water first went over the damn. He was there first fishing tournament ever he was in, and so he just wanted me to come up and kind of see it. And you know, for me, I grew up in the woods, and so I don't that's not really where I go now, Like I spent a lot of time there. I will, I'm comfortable there. But Caitlin still loves it, Like she grew up in a really small town um right outside of Tulsa, and so she's total nature girl, like woods girl. And so we went and met her parents and her sister and her sister's boyfriend. We staid up there for four days and it was actually awesome. Like so, I don't know what I expected. I thought it would just be a cabin in the woods, and it was so much more than that. We got into pickleball, which we now play outside. You know, I got a little tennis court here, but it's not a much smaller court you ever played pickleball. It looked fun. Yeah, it's like the rackets are they're they're not like tennis rackets, like if you had a racket and there was some kind of hard cardboard in the middle, and then the ball was a whiffleball. It's a big whiffle ball, so there's no like smashing through like you can actually play because you can't really hit the ball that hard. Um, I think old people play, but it's a lot of fun. We had I think five or six people over here yesterday. Uh, and we were playing pickleball again, not the exact size court because we kind of cut the tennis court down and the nets a little too high. But we did that, and we drove down to Arkansas for a little bit and fishing there, and then we drove back. But it became in a night early when Charlie Daniel passed awaycause and I met here at the house and you know, did some of that because even though we had a couple of new shows that were running. One of the things we do on vacation now is we can't do new shows the whole time, but we'll put on a couple of new shows because I think are audience I would like to hear a couple of new shows rather than some old stuff. Is it as good as shows when we're alive and going No? Is it better than reruns? Yes? So what we do much to the chagrin of other radio shows who have reached out to me my friends and gone, hey man, before you leave, and you're doing full new shows. That puts the pressure on us to do that, and we just like to go on vacation. Much of the chagrin of these shows. We do them because we care about you, but because we had a new show running. We came in talked about Charlie Daniels. It's crazy too when someone dies, you are kind of inspired to go back through their music, Like if you pull up Charlie Daniels that obviously everybody knows The Devil Went Down to Georgia. I know every word to the Devil Went Down to Georgia. I was talking about this on Twitter that I was nine and learned every word to it and went to school and would look for reasons to play it so I could sing every word and have people notice I knew every word to it. So this was a big one. It was a big story song. It was a story song with the hook, which was cool, but it came out nineteen seventy nine, so it came out, you know, but the year before I was born, and I didn't get into it until, you know, it was nine or ten. But that's when I really started getting in the country music anyway, like contemporary ish country music, because when the nineties hit, and it was you know, Garth and McGraw and the Clinton Blacks of the world. But that's, you know, kind of when I discovered that Charlie Daniel song. But it wasn't that. But if you'll play it longer, country Boy, the whole song from the beginning. I went back and listen to this, and I was like, I think this is my favorite Charlie Daniel song. And I know everywhere did this too, but not because I memorized it, because I kind of felt like this as a kid out of Mullet for a lot of my childhood. I sambre the words people say, I'm no good and crazy as a loon because I get stoned in the morning, I get drunk in the ye afternoon. Yeah, I know at all. Kind of like my old Bluetick Hound a lock lay around in the shade, I got no money, but dang, sure got it made a night asked, yeah, that's my favorite song. But he dies and then I'm listening and I was like, dang, I kind of forgot about this song and how much it reminded me of being a kid. And his funeral was today as we're recording this, do you see it this morning on TV? Well, they were running a lot of this stuff on on Twitter getting ready for the procession, and I think the funeral was going to be at eleventh Central, which it's almost ten Central recording this, but yeah, rest in peace. Um, I'm not going to the funeral. I didn't know Charlie Daniels, which is kind of weird because at this point I feel like I've either met her no, most folks around here, especially the ones that I thought were great as a kid, because I've made a point to reach out to them, I think we've just missed each other. I do, though, have Charlie Daniels fiddle, so mind and when I moved, it's it's over that other room because we're in a new place. But yeah, I have a signed Charlie Daniels fiddle that I bought at a charity auction. I didn't even get it signed from it. Again, with a lot of these artists, I have cool stories for me getting to live out my childhood dreams of getting to meet them. Like one of the cooler things for me was kind of having a relationship with Joe Diffy. It was like, holy crap, that's Joe Diffy from when I was a kid. Clinton Black and I are a bit friendly now. That's crazy to me because and that those are cooler to me than whenever I have a friend who's cool now, like Luke Brian or even Jake who Jake and I are but we're talking about playing pickleball this morning. But those are just like normal peers to me who I'm like, you know, ebbs and flows. Our careers are gonna do good, not do good. Hopefully we'll always be buds. But but like these artists when I was a kid, they just are always that person to me. Um so yeah, rested Charlie Daniels. I've been listening to a lot of his music. I gotta say though, too, after about five songs, I don't have a big Charlie Daniels catalog of songs that we're big to me. Devil went down to Georgia obviously and long Hair Country Boy, but I think and I went down I think about five of them. I was pretty good on and then I started to kind of lose it. Um, But yeah, I wonder if that funeral is like invite. There hasn't really been a massive country funeral in Nashville in the past few years. Were they like, wait, maybe there were? What was the last thing they did at the Opery? Oh? You know, I didn't, but I wasn't friends. I didn't know him that well. Was um Troy Gentry? I think that was what the Opery wasn't it? And I didn't know Troy that well from Montgomery Gentry, I don't. Yeah, I mean, I don't think they ever did the show, and we never And most people I meet by I there. They come into the show and that's the meeting place. But most people I know, it's because somehow we end up touring together, either at a festival and we hang out. Because when you get to know someone is not when they're doing a radio interview. You would think it'd be the oposite, because I'm asking them all these questions about their life. But when you get to know somebody is mostly when you have a real life circumstance. Well, when they come to the house, that is a big opener, because they'll come to the house and we'll do this. And you know, we started doing these early episodes before Corona. We would sit here for an hour and talk with folks. And I don't think that's the goal from here out. I do think, you know, Gary Levox was just and we talked like thirty minutes. It was great. I think that's a good spot. I think these the show is kind of found its spot. A good interview minutes in person longer if it's freaking killing, we're gonna have like a new artist or something in the news, and we do new music. I think that's kind of I think we've kind of found our spot here. Um, but people come up for an hour and but then they would hang out a lot of times too. That's how Brandon from Lanco and I became butts. That's a I mean, Brett Elders and I are really good friends. Now. He was over here yesterday, we were just hanging out. He's got I think he's got a new I know he has a new record out. Today. I was trying to listen to it this morning, um, and not because it's Brett Eldredge the artist, because I don't jump into a bunch of full album because he's my friend and I wanted to kind of just hear what it is. But we can start with it with that and we'll get to him in a second. New music out today, it'd be on Friday, we gotta I went on a whole little talk to But Rascal Flats released a new song. It's called quick Fast and in a Hurry. It features Rachel Walmack. It's from the utcoming EP that Gary talked about, which comes out July thirty one. But here you go. And number three on the listening to Music out Today, Jimmy Allen has a new EP called Betty James Really cool concept he has a bunch of awesome artists on this thing with him. The title is a combination of his late father and grandmother's first names. It's a whole bunch of folks. Brad Paisley, Charlie Pride, Darius Rutger, Tim McGraw. I saw Oakridge Boys, I saw Nellie on a track. Here's a song called why Things Happen with Darius and Charlie Pride. It's hard luck to question circumstances that maybe you wouldn't nothing to say? Read about Charlie Pride, I mean basically got his first song played because he didn't put himself on the cover and sent out singles. Because he's a black guy, and he knew that somebody knew. He knew that if the country radio just heard it and didn't base it on his skin color, they would play. And obviously they did. You know, Charlie Pride, massive star, but also just you know how good of a ball player he would like he could have done many many things real treasure and country music world. I did a part of the PBS documentary on Charlie Pride. My grandmother was a big Charlie Pride fand I'm not gonna act like that. I was Mr Charlie Pride most of my early country music, the especially the Johnny Cash gospel stuff which turned into the country stuff, or the John Denver's who they didn't consider country then. But his song is called thank God I'm a Country boy Charlie Pride. That was from my girandmother. That's the number three. Jimmy Allen's got a new EP out. Tim mcgirl has a new song called Here on Earth. It's the title track. His record comes out August twenty one, called Here on Earth. It's his first record in five years. Did you know that? I didn't know that I put out songs. I guess the last time he did the records when he came to the studio right before he put out that uh damn country music, and that was the record the Humble and Kind was on. Yeah, it just constantly putting out song. Here is the song here on Earth exactly where, and then the New Music Top five number one is gonna be Brett Eldredge. He has a new album out called Sunday Drive. This is this fifth album, and here's a new song called Paris, Illinois. Being the morning would fill my heart with you see the cooling hid feel the sunshine down in pat I'm a couple of songs in because I was listening to it before you came over, and um, it's this is way more my type album so far, because I like sad or slow or lov e. I just like sad, slow stuff. I like my tempo to be about three. I don't even know what that means. I like my tempo to so yeah. Brett has a new record out called Sunday Drive. It's out today. You know one of those songs, know if we talked about it here? Yeah, I think I brought it up on He the song Sunday Drive. He actually was working in the mail room at a record company found this song because in the room the mail room kind of a universal term. But he was taking tapes and turning him over or or CDs and make them into m p three's of songs that the songwriters have written, and he found this song and nobody ever cut it, and he finally got to go back and take it. And this is it. That's wide open to the picture. Show that much new stuff out too. They didn't make the top five. I can kind of roll through some of it. Josh Turner put out a cover. He's doing a whole cover record. But this is, uh, I don't know this is I'm no Stranger to the rain. Um but not have to play that? You have it up? Okay. Margot Price has a new album called That's How Rumors Get Started. Aubrey Sellers has a new song out called Wicked Game. Is that the Chris Isaac Wicked game? Say? Or? Is it a whole new song with the exact same title of a very famous song? Because if people are gonna do this, I got a whole idea for a song called Stairway to Heaven. And so I was listening to it, and you know, I was kind of playing and that song I hang out my Wife's Calling and the first time I'm gonna play a little bit of that rock back, here you go, we goes about to throw it back. I feel a buzz in my bucket. Well, I hang on with my wife's Calling. And about the third time you did that, I was like, okay, I thought you were just doing that once. But that's the whole, the whole idea for the song. I thought it was pretty original. Hey tell me about the song. Yeah, man, I I saw three guys and one day do it. And of course that you see it throughout your life. And I just got engaged to my lovely fiance, you know, Elis, and I was like, man, I want to write this song where you know, we just it's the guy's anthem basically of like when you're out with the boys and the girl calls, It's like you immediately know, like the hand goes up, they're taking the call, and it's like, hang on, my wife's calling, and it's like no one even questions if they just walk away to take the call. No one even says anything. So it's like I just wanted to write that song and just have fun with it. You know. What's funny was that was the song. Where I finished listening to it, I texted Mike, who produces this, and I was like, hey, let's get Nick on because I want to ask him about the project and the song. We met them. I think the first time we met was when you came in to do the show, right yeah, man, if the World was Ending that cover? Yeah. So I had a friend that was like, hey, check out this cover and now here's a clip of you and Hannah doing if the World was Ending, If the World and I had heard the original that I heard this song and so, and I don't know, maybe I maybe have tagged you guys, and and next thing you know, you guys are up here for That was all pre Corona though, right right, yeah, yeah, it's like January eleven. Dang, wasn't really that long ago. It sounds like I feel like a whole other lifetime ago. So you guys come up. That was a kind of a semi viral thing for you guys, right, Yeah, I mean it was insane. It was it's just like literally Christmas, even Christmas, I think it got like four thousand YouTube us and like kind of just it was even further than the original. So it was like we get tagged on like tick talk videos all the time being like they're using your song, and I'm like, yeah, that's JP Saxon, Julia Michaels, that's their songs. We're using their song. It was just like, dude, as it came out. As soon as it came out, we kind of started the process. We've never really done a cover before, and it was just you know, we talked about on your show about how it all came together, but yeah, it was just literally twenty days after the original song came out. So it was just so beautiful. The reaction has just been so cool. Yeah, that's pretty cool. And you and Hannah been together for how long? Six years? Wow? That long? Huh man. We we live across the hall from one another. That's how we met in this department here downtown and uh so we've We've kept the same set up for six years and it's just been a blast. Do you still live across from each other? Now? Yeah? Yeah, we got so she's got six hundred fifty square feet. I've got six hundred fifty square feet. Were like used her place for dinner and are are kind of a hangs And then my place like the night the Netflix, the the calf there and and I got a fool table in there, so it's like it's just a fun spot. The fog is rising now. And so I listened to these three songs and I got on my phone again and there was another song out. Did you release another song after this or before this I Love You More song? Oh? That was right before. So I released that on Valentine's Day. Okay, this song. I love this song. Here's I Love You. I'm gonna go through all your music real quick and then we'll talk again. Here's I Love You More. Here you go. You said I you, I said I love you, And it's just as true. I mean, that's my vibe, the slow, sappy or like I love, I love like you know. All of it's me, and all of it is is the you know, just parts of me. But like this EP, the whole idea behind American Originals was. I went to Stagecoach last April. I was opening for Devin Dustin on his California Smoke tour, and about halfway through was Stagecoach weekend and he was kicking off the big stage at like seven pm on Friday. So I got to be a part of all that and just see it and being the crowd and just we had the most fun, you know, that whole atmosphere right there, those grounds, all the people. Country fans are just so supportive and everything was just so beautiful that day. And uh, I was like watching like came Brown and Luke Bryant just moved the crowd, you know, just having so much fun. And we were having so much fun. But as an artist, you can't help but imagine you're yourself like behind the microphone in that moment. And I was like, man if I was behind the mic right and out in this atmosphere, like what would I say? And so as soon as I got back to Nashville, it's like, I am writing it that whatever that feeling was, that's what I'm doing. And so we got these three. It was supposed to be a summer kickoff. Obviously things changed this year, but you know, maybe we'll get to the summer at some point. Here's my question for you. Whose hair takes longer in the morning, You or Hannah's mine. Well, that's so Hannah has the thickest hair. I mean, it is like she has so much hair it's crazy. So I actually don't know the answer that mine is like so delicate and like fine, where if it breaks the part, I gotta start all over. So it's like I'm kind of like sitting basically like still until it dries and holds together. She's there working at like flat ironing and trying to get it to lay down. So she's got she's got more effort. I've got more like downtime. Would you cut it? Are you leaving it long? You're gonna stay Nick Nick long hair? Nick gosh at some point, at some point it will go. Ryan heard when I met When I met Ryan, he had long hair. He had to make that decision. Yeah. Yeah, I wasn't ready to do that. I had some I had a little bit of like pressure when I was starting, when I was releasing two sides and all that kind of stuff, and I was like, no, I'm not doing that whole thing where you dropped me you said cut your hair, Like no, it's me, Like this is me and then we'll figure it out later on maybe the Dirk the Dirk five, you know where he like cut his hair, like two albums in. You used to valet here in town, right, yeah, Low's Vanderbilt anywhere anybody cool ever come through And you're like dang, I got the valley their car, Dirk's all, but we did. They still do the Grammy celebratory thing. They're the nominees party, and so I would always do that. And Dirk's was always my favorite, coming in that nine four white uh G and C. You know that truck that him and his dad drove down in and what is that song? I can't remember what the title is, but he's always been that one with those like thirty four it's Nickey Thompsons on it. Stuff always left him. Uh the Let's see who else was there? All Terry Underwood, they all came through, all the country girls, oh uh, Lionel Ritchie and then um Um the guy that just died. Um. It's like the king of rock and roll. Little Richard, a little Richard, a little Richard come in all the time. Really always, yeah, he came in all the time. He would live at the Hilton, like months at a time by Bridge Stone, Little Richie would live there. I mean like that was like his home in Nashville. Anybody ever give you a big old tip. BB King was the best. Really, He'd roll in and his assistant would just be dropping a hundred, would be like minutes. Holy craft man, that's awesome. Yeah, b BB King and then the owner for the Colts he would come in and paly Yeah, er State would come in and give us like geez, would you guys ever fight about who would get the big fancy cars coming in or did all the tips? Yeah, so you didn't pull the tips. You know exactly the Colts weekend, you know when bb King is coming in, you know when actually this is something too. Uh. When UK basketball would roll in for FBC tournaments when we would be hosting here, they would always be Now, they were like twenty at a time because it was just fans and like you know, people like that. But they just always always would come in with just a roll of twenties and they would just be twenty here there. So you always love when UK came to down And that's the kind of life I need. Did yelling during the day. I was doing carpet for my mom and we did like like at night. So I would get off at like eleven o'clock e m. Sometimes at the valet stand because I would do the three to eleven shifts and then I would go straight to the DNA Airport and lay carpet piles for my mom. You know that crazy carpet you laid some of that carpet in the airport, that the BNA carpet. Yeah, they still do it. That's funny. Your parents. Your mom does Yeah, yeah, my mom's got a company called custom Rugs and uh and they still do it. They split it with like four or five different other people or whatever businesses. But yeah, we would allays do it if I would have known that it was going to be so cool, Like you know me, like I'm trying to be an artist and all this kind of stuff. So I'm seeing people in the airport, I'm like hiding away from them because they're coming in on the late flights because I'm like in their laying carpet. Now it's like so cool. It's like the being the DNA Instagram and down and all that kind of stuff. So I was like, man, I wish we would have filmed and took photos and stuff. Maybe I'll go in there work a shift again or something. Yea. For those who don't know, the carpet's pretty legendary around here. That has its own Instagram account too, because it's so so wild and some people say beautiful. Some people don't. But well, listen, Nick, it's been good to talk to you. You know, there was an update in the lady A name change this week. Lady A formerly lady Annabellum is now I believe countersuing Lady A the Blue singer Um. They couldn't reach an agreement the Seattle based blue singer Anita White, who has been using this the same name. Um. The country group is suing her apparently, you know, I think, because she demanded ten million dollars and they're like, I don't know what else we can do. Lady A the band owns Lady A, like, let's not let that be free. They didn't just go we're gonna be lady and will take it. They actually owned it and have owned it for a long time, and they were using it a bit. And what's gonna benefit them is that they were using Lady A, not just Lady Ann Abellum. So they're there. What there's a lot of documentation and pictures and tours and of them using Lady A. So from what I know, and it's tough for me because I am biased here because I just know, I just know them, that there was an offer of some money. I didn't hear this from them, and and a duet even but then from what I hear from my sources, they were shocked when she came back and said no, we demanded ten million dollar payment. And they're like, well, we own the name already. We're not going to pay you ten million, so we have to now legally go in this direction to settle it. They don't want to sue it, Nope, they don't want to be a part of any of this. And if they didn't already own the Lady A name, I don't think they would have ever even tried to get lady A. I think they felt like we've been going by lady A. Some we own it. I think she mostly has been a local singer up in the area. I was looking under streams something rega hardless. I think in the end, which I predicted from the very beginning, then you have to pay her something. I did predict to do that thing too. But I don't think it's gonna happen. Maybe not. I don't think that. Yeah, um, and I think this will be resolved. I think she probably has an attorney. This is all me speculating, going demand the world and we'll settle for you know, a country, you know, reach for the stars and be happy when you land in the clouds kind of thing. I know they're taking it on the chin a little bit, the band member, But when someone demands ten million dollars what he's supposed to do do you don't give them ten million dollars if you don't think it's worth it. It's not worth it. And they owned it already, But she's also been beforing buying it for a long time, so there's some weird thing. Maybe they both go buy it. I would assume that they'll pay her something, probably I'm just gonna throw a number right here, four dollars. I would assume that's kind of where it's settled. This will be old. I went to law school for a long kind of zero days. The band has been using the name Lady A along with their original band name since two thousands six so fourteen years. So again, it's not like they're just going we now want to take all over all rights to lady They've been going by Lady A already. I guess maybe if they had known about her, they could they would have stopped her a lot earlier. You know. Um, I don't think anyone is right or wrong. I think they both. But she's been using the name for a long time. She definitely has an argument. They both do. But the ten million dollar thing just seems a little aggressive. But I also understand, let's just go in because I've done it in contract negotiations. Let me just ask for everything. And I don't want to be called I. I want to be called Ibobby Media, and of course we're gonna say no to that. But then, yes, I'm not inside. I haven't I'll say this. I haven't spoken to either three of the band members in the past week. And this has all happened in the past week. Lady A became an official trademark for the band after two thousand eleven. No one filed in opposition to that name. Prior to she did not challenge in any way. So now it's a chancel. So legally they've had it. But I do think that she's been performing. There's just something. There's just gotta be a middle ground. There's got a mr compromise I always am, don't you think. So they're gonna have to go out of pocket a little bit, but they're not gonna go The lawsuit does note that White has identified as Lady A since two thousand ten, but the suit pointed out that White's artist page at the time of the court filing had a hundred sixty six monthly listeners compared to the band's more than seven million. You know, they owned it, and they had the consciousness of it. Who knows. There may be eight other people going by Lydier in other other areas. I don't know, but she did have music on Spotify. She absolutely has a case. I'm not saying she doesn't have a case. Uh, the name of the band is obviously extremely valuable. Two two things. Wanted to lose a name and start over horribly hard to do. Or two to go solo or change a band, Like start a new band, you can have the same lead singer. I mean rarely could does that happen? I mean the first one that passed to my mind is like Bleachers. You know, that's the the guitar player basis from Fun. You know, but you don't go Bleachers featuring the guy from Fun. You just gotta put a new name out there and hope that some people start to connect. And you know, see interviews, it's tough. That drop off is crazy when you just go solo, here's a new project, yea, and even just the solo, even your full name difference in the band. Like when Gary Lavox was talking about him going solo in lasting podcast. That's gonna be tough for him because he's not Rascal Flats. And I don't think most people that aren't medium country music fans are gonna know who Gary Levox is. They're not gonna know he's the lead singer. Um So, Dixie Chicks are not Dixie Chicks anymore. They changed their name. They're just going by the chicks. Do you know that They finally said something about that right. What they say basically that they came up with it when they were so young, and it was dumb then, and they had no problem changing it. Quote. We were literally teenagers when we picked that stupid name. They explained. The band name was a subtle reference to the Little Feet song Dixie Chicken. You pull it up and find it. I bet you I know it, but I can't act like I'm too cool right now. However, by two thousand three, they had already soured to the name. We wanted to change it years and years ago. I just wanted to separate myself. There we go. Let me hear this. So if I don't have it, do you know, can you go to the hook? Just just scroll fast a little bit. I would like to act cool because I used to listen to a lot of classic rock. I don't know, man, I'm not that cool. Hate me right now. Uh So they said, hey, we want to meet the moment, so they changed their name. How about Prince Whenever, he wasn't Prince anymore. He was that weird symbol. He was the artist formerly known as Prince, but that wasn't even his name. That's just what you had to say because it was that weird symbol and you couldn't say the weird symbol in words announce he would no longer go by the name Prince, but rather buy that weird symbol with It was like a circle had a stick coming out of it. There was like a hook at the end. It was a whole thing. The name change was a rebellion against his record label at the time, Warner Brothers. When he signed back in nineteen seventy seven, he was a teenager, nailed some songs Purple Rain, and they owned Prince and all the music, so he was like, I don't want to be part of the record indu jour anymore. So he was then that symbol and that was it. He then changed back. Finally he was Prince again. He definitely was Prince again before he died. Pearl Jim used to be Mookie Blaylock, who was a basketball player who's a NBA star. Pearl jam once played music under the same name as basketball loll star Mookie Blaylock, even naming their debut album ten after his jersey number. Is that true? I knew the Mookie Blaylock. I didn't know ten was named after his basketball jersey number. But when you use a name him that already exists, you can't really trade market or sell merchandise because he kind of owns it. You know, there have been cases to where because they can't stop you from using your real name. For example, I think I've sided this before, and that's what I'm gonna do politically, or if I have to change radio stations ever, and if because I think I may own Bobby Bones at this point, probably do at this point. That's what I used to think I was gonna do. In wrestling in the WWF at the time, the Ultimate Warrior wanted to change and go to the w CW, but they owned Ultimate Warriors, so it changed his Nambulti Warrior. And you can't keep someone from using their real name. So I was like, okay, well that's just my real name now, so it changed it. That's its name. And I always thought, and I guess now I haven't thought about this in radio and so long because I think I own Bobby Bones, that I would just change my name to Bobby Bones and I go wherever I want and use the name without anybody's going out. You can't we own that. But I also think politically. If I run, I have to put bones in or it's gonna be like one of these stories we're talking about here, we change your name? Who is that? Yeah? Same guy? Is that? The artist formerly known as Yea? So it's gonna be my middle name. Probably I'm gonna switch out my middle name. Uh, but yeah. So they were Mookie Blaylock. Oh, let's see who else do we have here? Simon and garf Uncle used to be Tom and Jerry. They were fifteen years old when they started back in the fifties, and just because they didn't have the most marketable names in the world. So Simon and garf Uncle, we used to be Tom and Jerry. The the verb used to be just verve, and they added the to the front after a jazz label. I was like, hey, we're gonna sue you. I don't know the was that much of a changer did you change? I mean, if you're gonna like file copyright over it, if you had a v it's different because they were just Verve Records. And I guess because it wasn't a band, because I don't think you could do that with a band if one if one band wanted to just add the like, for example, Rascal Flats aren't the Rascal Flats. I couldn't go, well, I got you boys, I'm gonna be the Rascal Flats or I'm gonna be the Pearl Jam. It had to be because they were doing slightly different things. But yeah, uh, verbs had to be the verb in septem Verb signed to Hut Records and within a year I had three number one singles on a UK chart. They put out the record, they got a visit from American jazz label and they were like, you gotta change. So then the birth to be like that's all You're gonna change it too, but bitter sweet symphony, like as a emo nineties kid, this was my jam. It's the baitst sweet and then they played this at the end of them Sarah Michelle Geller Cruel Intentions, That's what it was. The other song from Cool Intentions. It was pretty good. But I'm a Counting Crows fan. Was I am color blind? Coffee black tongue tiede like for a second, County Crows was cool to everybody, not just to me because I love. One of my favorite bands ever is Counting Crows. Because again, there bpms like one slow songs. I am color blind. He shaved his head. I saw a picture recently he didn't. I think he's wearing a wig anyway, Adam Durrett's do you know what his hair looks like? Yeah, I haven't seen him recently. Sugar Ray used to be Shrinky Dinks. They originally called themselves the Shrinky Dinks and later Shrinky Dinks with an X after the oven heated Children's Arts and Crafts kit. I don't know the Shrinky Dinks. Do you remember this? You were like, it's kind of like Plato, but like thinner, and then you would put them in the oven and they would like shrink and make these little like creature things. Then were they stuck shrunk? Yeah. Once the group got popular, they gotta deal with landed records of the band name obviously got the attention of Milton Bradley, who owned Shrinky Dinks, and they're like, hey, we're gonna sue. So then they renamed themselves for the boxer Sugaratte Robinson, who at that point was dead. Do you know, Uh, probably not gonna make the list because they weren't that famous. But Green Jello the punk band, not Green Jelly, do you know about them. We may have searched that out and throw up some I guess I'll punk you here. Huh. Well, it used to be their name Green Jello, but then they got sued by Jello. Now they're Green Jelly. Do you see Green Jelly through Little Pigs? Yeah? This is a big song way back on the day. Why so sue say right breast and I I may tell you a tale, A tale of three little pigs and b whoa. This was like their one Mainstreamish song hit, another one like a random one. There's the beer song. Okay, it's got a little more of a plunk ye the other one does. Okay. This was in Dumber, Dumb and Dumber. I remember what was it? Glad to changed their name. They were Green Jello and then Jello sude, so now they're a Green Jelly. Blink one A two used to be Blink. The name Blink was thought out by Tom DeLong when the band consisted of Tom Mark and their friends Scott, which before Blink they called himself a duct tape. They were forced to change it because an Irish electronica artist was already in the name, so they just added one eighty two to the end. Why want any two is because that's how many times al Pacino says the effort and scarface. The weekend used to be the weekend. Now what I mean by that is now he's the weekend with no E and end. It's the weekend, but he uhould be the weekend, but he had to lose the E due to possible legal trouble from another band called the Weekend. Again. I don't think that's enough of a movement just pulling one letter out of it. Do you like the weekend? I? Do you like the weekend? I like the new stuff too. The members of the Beach Boys once sued former Beach Boy al Jardina to stop using the Beach Boy's name. They also sued him for using the names al Jardina, the Beach Boys, the Beach Boys family and friends, Beach Boys family and friends, the Beach Boys family and friends, the Beach Boys family. They basically said, hey, dude, stop saying the Beach Boys. The court held that he could use his former band's name, and mostly it was that he used to be a part of it, right, not that he's still the main beach Boy. Is that kind of where it settled now? Some of his promotional materials just played the Beach Boys more prominently than family and friends, and they said, hey, like this is how people know him. And so they also said, hey, people can't differentiate between Mike Love, who was the lead singer, and Al Jardine, Like there's not one guy who people just see as the beach boy. That all of them are kind of the beach boys, and I think most people want to know the difference. You just go and if one of them you just you don't even know which one. It was just four old dudes, and you'd be like one of them used to be a beach boy, but I'm gonna listen to surf Safari. I watched The Temptations like a like a biopic, and that happened a lot with them too, because they just split off and we're all doing different versions of the Temptations, so they like weren't didn't really know what version they're gonna go. See. Yeah, I think there are a few different beach Boys. I think one of them played the rhyme and recently before Corona, and I think it was the MIKEL. Love version. I think Eddie went was like, you know, I wasn't sure who was you don't know Google Dolls changed from the sex maggots man. I used to love the Google Dolls, and you know I still do. I watched them in concert a year ago. They went and they played with collective soul. I guess that that makes me what they say, basic, basic white boy, that's me. Bear Naked Ladies, who I love, used to be free Beer. This was another they had one week and this was another song that I learned everywhere to I was pretty proud of, much like Charlie Daniel we talked about earlier in the podcast. Uh. They originally called free Beer because it helped them draw crowds when playing the bar scene hilarious. The bar owners forced them to change their name because customers were getting angry because they thought it was free beer. So again, Bear Naked Ladies. Still a bit of false advertising. Isn't that funny? Free Beer? Once when Eddie and I did our first comedy record, which is just okay, not even that good. We had some songs that did okay, but overall wasn't that good. Um it was called the critics give it five stars because I wanted people to see that and think that it was such a good record, and uh yeah, I thought that pretty money whatever because like the Adam Sandler thing too, what was comedy special fresh? What? What fresh? Yeah? He saw that from me. Randy Travis used to be Randy trey Wick. People said a hard time spelling trey Wick. Billy Ray Cyrus was set to become just Cyrus in um. He said, hey, I'll be just the artist formerly known as Billy Ray. So I don't see, isn't is he Cyrus? Though now he still has like Billy Ray Cyrus and all this stuff, but like on his albums, he'll put Cyrus bigger and then Billy Ray really small. Guns and Rose was put together from two bands l A Guns and Hollywood. Rose and Guns was kind of famous though. Katy Perry used to be Katherine Hudson as a Christian artist. She was born October Catherine Elizabeth Hudson, and then the Kate Hudson thing got her. She was like, I think people are gonna think I'm Kate Hudson, so she was Katie Perry. She was Catherine Perry than Katy Perry, which was her mother's maiden name, So all those folks had to change.
