00:00:00 Speaker 1: You are listening to The Dan Patrick Show on Fox Sports Radio. Crisis averted. We had a fire in here last hour, in fact, fifteen minutes ago. Everybody is safe. Everybody was running to the fire, except for Fritzy, who ran for the exit. 00:00:17 Speaker 2: I am extra safe. 00:00:18 Speaker 3: But the big german came in, and he is a firefighter and ems by trade by day, and he came in, went right to the fire and helped put out what could have been a disaster. Fire alarm went off. Everybody is safe, We're good, and we'll proceed with caution. I don't know what this means for a Sports Emmy, but maybe we submit. Oh no, it's too late. We already submitted for this year. 00:00:45 Speaker 4: This would be for next year. 00:00:46 Speaker 3: Yeah, well, who knows what could happen in the interim here? Marvin, okay, no, I'm still basking in. Oh the long arms, no, thirty one inches long? 00:01:00 Speaker 5: Yes? 00:01:00 Speaker 2: Yeah, I did it? You did so? Proud of you? Did you call your mom? 00:01:05 Speaker 5: I did? 00:01:06 Speaker 3: He's like congract stat of the Day brought to you by Pennine America, the official trading cards for The Dan Patrick Show. Lewis Riddick for the Mothership recapping the combine and Jeremiah Love, who was my second pick for the Heisman Trophy. He looked great as far as speed goes. There was nothing that he was going to do with the combine that was going to change my opinion. 00:01:31 Speaker 2: Unless he ran. 00:01:33 Speaker 3: Maybe a four four or five or something, then I'd go wow. But you can watch him on the football field and he was the fastest guy on the field. You're not breaking ninety yard touchdown runs unless you're really fast. But the fact that he got has great hands catch the ball of the backfield. 00:01:52 Speaker 2: And the Jets are on the clocket too. 00:01:54 Speaker 3: I want to ask Lewis Riddick, could the Jets take him even though you know they have Breis Hall? And my thought is why not have two of those guys who were great, you know, difference makers. Now I'm going to put the pressure on the defense here. Now the Jets aren't going to take him. Jeremiah Love is probably going to be out of the top five. But if you want a difference maker on offense, like how many of those guys are in this draft, and that's where you have to look at it differently. I know you don't want to take a running back that high because this is what's going to happen. 00:02:27 Speaker 2: I'm going to draft him high. 00:02:30 Speaker 3: I hope that he gets a second contract because then that validates me taking him with one of those top ten picks, and then you're going to have to pay him commensurate to that second contract. But if he's that great, then I'm going to invest eight years of pay with Jeremiah Love, because that's what it's going to come down to. You'll get four years and then you'll skip the fifth year. You'll sign him up, and then you'll kind of have a Saquon Barkley situation, except for you don't let sa Kwon Barkley go if you're team taking Jeremiah Love. 00:03:04 Speaker 2: Yes, Ton, I think. 00:03:05 Speaker 6: You take Love just for marketing reasons, because they could be Jet Mariah Love and you could have all kinds of fun with Jet Mariah instead of Jeremiah Love. Jet Mariah Love. Oh no, get rid of Breesea altogether if you have to. 00:03:17 Speaker 2: You're pretty quiet in the first hour where you get it goin. 00:03:21 Speaker 3: Yeah, I think the fire in my office had a better hour than you. 00:03:25 Speaker 7: Yeah. 00:03:26 Speaker 2: Yeah, more much more content. Yeah, there's more content with the fire, all. 00:03:29 Speaker 3: Right, Seaton Pole, question, I don't even know what we put up. In the first hour of the program, there was so much happening. My life flashed before my eyes, flames, smoke, alarm, big german. 00:03:42 Speaker 8: And now here we are our two Yes, just trying to piece it all back together. Yeah, somehow we power on. We had two pole quests best month of the year for sports, October running away with that one at fifty four percent, March having a very respectable twenty six percent in the second place. However, if you add up March and April together, they still don't match it. October all right, dominant jen no love for January, only about five percent. Then we got one here from Paul the combine drill. I would do the worst in forty bench, Vertical or wonder Lick. 00:04:14 Speaker 3: Well, you guys did the wonder Lick a couple of years ago. That's when McLevin was here. 00:04:19 Speaker 2: Yeah he did well. 00:04:21 Speaker 3: Yeah, that's why he wanted to do the wonder Lick. Yeah, you know Ivy League education with McLevin. 00:04:27 Speaker 8: The results on this one. Vertical has about forty percent, followed by bench at thirty seven percent. People very confident in their wonder lick ability. 00:04:35 Speaker 3: I would fail miserably in all of them, especially the bench press. I mean I carry it, I carry a network, but I can't bench press. 00:04:44 Speaker 9: You know two. 00:04:45 Speaker 8: Upper body strength can be tricky if you unless you really work on it a. 00:04:48 Speaker 2: Lot, right, Yeah, I you know what. 00:04:51 Speaker 3: I was out getting chicks, so I wouldn't like Todd, who just don't triceps and by sez. 00:04:56 Speaker 6: That's early. 00:04:56 Speaker 5: Yeah. 00:04:57 Speaker 2: No legs, no legs, thank you? Wait business, you never did leg day. 00:05:01 Speaker 6: I did it once in a while. I got such a horrible crimp from not doing it regularly that I could barely get off the machine. I'm like, I'm not doing this anymore. 00:05:07 Speaker 2: Yes see. 00:05:08 Speaker 8: The crazy part, too, is that Todd still on the rare like every once in a while he'll run over there and grab like dumbbell. Yeah, and he still only does the same curls that he probably did when he was seventeen. He doesn't change up anything at all. 00:05:20 Speaker 7: Now. 00:05:21 Speaker 6: I use literally on the rare occasion that I go to the gym these days, I think I used four, maybe five machines, and then I'll go on the treadmill for twenty minutes, and uh, you know, once I get the first beat of sweat, I'm out of there. 00:05:32 Speaker 2: Do we have a poll question for hour two? 00:05:34 Speaker 5: See? 00:05:35 Speaker 2: Yeah, we're gonna stick with these. 00:05:36 Speaker 8: I just put up the one from Paul about which one the uh, which combine event you would do worse? 00:05:42 Speaker 3: Okay, I can improve in the wonder lick, I'm not going to I can improve in the forty. I probably would take a long time to improve in the bench press vert those days are done. 00:05:59 Speaker 8: So Yeah, it is weird when you like sort of crouch down to get into that vertical position and you go to jump and that spring, even what limited spring may have had, isn't there anymore at all, not even close. That's upsetting. 00:06:15 Speaker 3: I I remember somebody saying, hey, Marcus Johnson just dunked and he's seventy. You're turning seventy, And I go, no, no, I wouldn't even want to try. Something's going to fall out, something's going to blow out. That would be horrible. 00:06:33 Speaker 4: Yes, Paul, going back to the combine, I don't think you can improve your speed you're jumping, or even your wonder lick at this point in our lives. Like, I think our speed is our speed, But I think strength and the bench could be dealt with and could. 00:06:46 Speaker 3: I think you could improve your speed lightly. Yes, there's techniques that I think you could. 00:06:51 Speaker 8: I think all of those things can be improved. You know, we had Michael Vick on years ago and he said and that we were talking about preparing for the forty and he said, squats. Just have to do a ton of squats and you'll improve your forty. 00:07:02 Speaker 2: Oh anything else, Yeah, the wonder lick. 00:07:08 Speaker 3: I think I could prepare for it knowing the question, knowing the type of questions. Not knowing the questions that would help too. But I would be coy and say that I didn't want to appear too smart because teams might not want you. 00:07:24 Speaker 2: Hey, you're too smart. 00:07:27 Speaker 3: Not that that would ever happen, but it'd be good to use that as an excuse and todd while you're smart. 00:07:35 Speaker 6: I was very average with that score. I don't know whatever I got. It was either average or beloverdge. I overthink questions a lot. When I was a little kid, there was a question about the bakery and what you can get at a bikery, and I picked beans because I thought it baked beans. It's got to be bakery baked beans. So I remember that back in third grade I overthink I was the only when they get that wrong out of the whole class. And that's tests. There was cookies, and there was like normal answers, and I'm like, Oh, they're trying to trick me. I'm gonna be the only one to get this right. Baked beans, that's what you find. 00:07:59 Speaker 2: So what's the question? So we have our pole question for hour two? 00:08:03 Speaker 3: No, Todd, I gave you the time to explain and then I have to move on that. 00:08:08 Speaker 6: That was a cute little story, very great answer to that. 00:08:11 Speaker 2: I know, bakery and big beans. Okay, it was very cute, Todd. 00:08:14 Speaker 4: Very Have you noticed that in the past maybe two years, three years of doing this show, the wonder Lick is kind of dead as far as things being released, notes, stats, numbers kind of gone away. I don't know if fewer guys are taking them or they're not being leaked. 00:08:31 Speaker 3: What was was it, Vince Young? Was that the last time that you had numbers released? 00:08:38 Speaker 4: No, I've got numbers from three or four years ago. 00:08:40 Speaker 2: No, but you know, embarrassed, Yeah, embarrassing. Yeah, Vince Young was publicly embarrassed. Yeah. 00:08:48 Speaker 8: Yes, I think I think people have really come around to the idea that standardized tests are kind of nonsense. 00:08:54 Speaker 3: Yes, I agree, So that might impact the wonder Like I was saying that in high school. You know these stand tests, that they're not accurate, they're not real. Yeah, after I did poorly on them accurate Yeah, same same yeah. 00:09:07 Speaker 10: No. 00:09:08 Speaker 3: My mom was like, didn't you prepare? I go, no, I didn't. How am I preparing? We didn't have tutors back then? And she goes, you're gonna have a hard time getting into college. I said, not with this jumper. Yes, Mormon, I can already see, Mom. Come on, this jumper is money, that's all I Yeah, school, this is Suma, Suma score a lot. A Hey, that's not bad. Right off the cough Todd, I. 00:09:39 Speaker 2: Would have said, Daddy, I would have got so crushed. 00:09:41 Speaker 6: We all know that. 00:09:44 Speaker 2: Do I grade? You want to curve? I wish you would g. 00:09:49 Speaker 6: Anyway, Salie, what do you got? 00:09:52 Speaker 2: I'm gonna pretend that he didn't say that. Mike in New Jersey, Hey Mike, what's on your mind today? 00:09:58 Speaker 10: Oh? 00:09:59 Speaker 9: Everything's good. Big week in Florida. 00:10:01 Speaker 5: I got my three grandchildren, leam Leylan, and Sloan coming down for a week of fun with Grandpa. So it's going to be a blast, best and worse for the weekend. I think the worst would have to be that quarterback Ponder from Colorado get killed in the auto accident. Oh and uh, the best of the weekend, which could lead into stat of today, would be Michael Jordan making history with NASCAR and his driver Reddick winning the third race in a row, only time that's ever been done in the history in NASCAR. 00:10:35 Speaker 3: Yeah, Mike's having a good month here. Mike's having a good life here now, winning Daytona, a couple of races after that, got his fishing boat there, making hundreds of millions of dollars, getting away from basketball, and he's been really successful. 00:10:54 Speaker 2: Yes, Marvin, is he still a. 00:10:56 Speaker 11: Part of the NBC family or was what Tariko? Was that just the one time he might be getting paid by NBC. I don't think I would consider part of him part of the NBC family. So he's still winning. 00:11:07 Speaker 3: Yeah, you know that was that was not good. It's not good at all. You do one interview and whatever you got twenty million dollars. 00:11:17 Speaker 2: I think I've done that. Yeah. 00:11:18 Speaker 3: Oh, because what we want is the relevancy of Mike talking about the NBA not. You know, Tarico's got to go in and go all right. I got all of these questions, these topics, and hopefully they're evergreen, that they'll last throughout the year. You would have thought, Okay, every six weeks, you're able to go and have Mike sit down. I don't and I don't know what he got paid, but let's say twenty million dollars. I would hope twenty million would would go a little further. 00:11:48 Speaker 4: Yes, Paul, the estimates are between twenty and thirty seven million dollars for a less than three hour interview. 00:11:54 Speaker 2: No, it's it's not good. I mean it's good. That's not good, yeah, Marvin. 00:12:01 Speaker 11: Yeah, the part that was getting me was he was just talking very general. Yeah, he didn't say anything about like specific players. I want to hear you talk about the current guys, the SGA's, the Jokers, the Aunt Edwards. But it was just very I don't like load management. 00:12:13 Speaker 2: Great, yeah, Paully. 00:12:15 Speaker 4: I think though NBC got what they wanted out of it. They wanted to be the big splash six you know, eight months ago. 00:12:21 Speaker 3: I think you got thirty seven million dollars worth of coverage publicity. 00:12:26 Speaker 4: Weirdly, yeah, because what. NBC knew what they were buying, and they knew the limited access they would have. But when they announced that we're getting the NBA and guess who's joining us, Michael Jordan. No one else got them for decades, and they got the buzz to lead off their new era of NBC's NBA coverage. It's not long lasting, but I think that it felt big right off the bat. 00:12:48 Speaker 3: Yeah, but I think it worked against them because yeah, oh you got oh that's it. Oh he's wearing the same clothes that uh oh okay, it was Peyton switch. I thought, you know, because initially it was like, all right, Mike's going to contribute. But if you really want to spice it up, that's where you have well, he and Charles are not seeing eye to eye. But if you add Barkley and then you had Reggie Miller, if you had a couple of different former players, you were able to do, you know, with players that are current, you know, currently under the UH or on the payroll at NBC, maybe you could do something fun like that. Maybe you could do sort of a town hall with five NBA players and Mike. But I got to get more out of it than what I got because it it didn't you know, the opinions were kind of loose, you know, I wanted I wanted it direct, I wanted Sharper and uh you didn't get that. Uh, thank you, Mike though. Uh Aiden in Utah, Hi Aiden, what's on your mind? 00:13:55 Speaker 12: Ad Pig? Good morning, Good morning, Good be back on the show. Hey, I got to quit something. Mendoza did an interview with I Forget the Lady. She's out of Amyanda local Sports network, and she asked her what was the She asked him what was the wildest thing she had been asked by one of the teams, And he said one of the teams asked him to get arrested. So he was fault in the draft. Yeah, that's how badly people want this guy. 00:14:23 Speaker 3: Well, I would say they're just having fun with him. I just I just hope he goes, you know, to a team that's ready to bring him in. I don't think he's going to play right away. I hope he doesn't play right away, but I mean they may say see something different where they go, we have to play. But I just hope that they bolster the offensive line. You do have Gentee and Bowers and if they do that. Great because you can't help, but like the kid and root for him. Great story. But I just want to make sure, and the Raiders know this, We're going to make sure that we have a semblance of an offensive line here just to protect him. 00:15:05 Speaker 2: Yes, Mark, do you think. 00:15:06 Speaker 11: There's ever a chance in today's NFL that the number one pick in the NFL draft wouldn't play Week one? 00:15:14 Speaker 3: I would say yes, yes. 00:15:20 Speaker 11: Who's their other option safest the Raiders? 00:15:24 Speaker 3: Well, Gino's not there or is he still? Maybe he's not under contract, but I would have somebody who I just don't want him to walk in there and all of a sudden people are gonna go, okay, save us. Is Kenny Pickett still there with the Raiders? He's on the depth chart? 00:15:45 Speaker 2: Okay? 00:15:47 Speaker 3: How deep is he on the What depth is he at second string? Forty kilometers deep? But you look, he might surprise people. That happened with Justin Herbert. All of a sudden, coaching staff goes, oh my god, because he blew everybody away when you showed up for cam. All right, we'll talk to Lewis Riddick in the mothership. He'll join us next. More of your phone calls as well. We're back after this. 00:16:14 Speaker 1: Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio App. 00:16:24 Speaker 11: Hey, it's Rob Parker and Kelvin Washington from The Odd Couple on Fox Sports Radio. 00:16:29 Speaker 7: And in addition to hearing us live weeknights from seven to ten pm Eastern on Fox Sports Radio, we are excited to announce brand new YouTube channel. 00:16:38 Speaker 2: For the show. 00:16:38 Speaker 3: That's right, you can now watch The Odd Couple live on YouTube every day. 00:16:44 Speaker 7: All you gotta do search Odd Couple FSR on YouTube. Again YouTube, Just search Odd Couple FSR. Check us out on YouTube and subscribe. 00:16:54 Speaker 3: Lewis Riddick of the Mothership great contributor throughout the entire football season and of course in the off season ESPN, NFL College Football Analyst, and you could tune in for NFL Draft Daily three eastern weekdays on ESPN two, ESPN app and also Disney Plus. All right, give me the most important drill at the combine and you, as a former front office guy, would say that will equate to success on Sundays. 00:17:25 Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, it's different for each for each position, group. So when you're looking at obviously, when you look at the forty, which is always the marquee event, you know, it's different for the DB's as opposed offense alignment. You hear all the time of OFFENSI alignment, it's about ten yard split for DB's, like corners in particular, it's about ten yard split. The forty is more heavily weighted for corners because look, if you're sub if you're not sub four or five in the forty at corner, you're probably gonna have to be like ridiculously proficient as far as your instincts and route recognition, because you just need raw speed. 00:17:59 Speaker 2: You just do. 00:18:01 Speaker 10: I think, for like wide receivers, I love to watch the three cone drill and in the twenty yards short shuttle because obviously a lot of their their movements lower body explosiveness, being able to change direction, moving to serpentine, that's all important. So like right now, when everybody's like up in arms about Carnel Tate's forty yard time being, you know four or five to one four five two is agents saying it's lower, blah blah. Look it really, if if we really judge wide receivers, by forties, Jerry Rice would have went undrafted. So I mean, it's just like you know there, it's always different from position group to position group. I think across all position groups, everyone likes to see what a guy's vertical jump is because that is really just about raw physical explosion. And there were some dudes this year who was like, I mean, I was telling my son about some of these guys in and their vertical jumps, and he's like forty three and a half inches from standing two point, Like, yeah, man, these dudes are jumping out the gym. So it's it moves based on position, but I think forty ten it's three cone. Those are the ones that you really want to kind of pay attention to from a measurement standpoint. 00:19:05 Speaker 2: You know what caught my attention. 00:19:06 Speaker 3: A couple of guys had a better vertical than Vince Carter, and I go, I don't know what it means, but that's pretty damn impressive there. 00:19:15 Speaker 2: I don't know. 00:19:17 Speaker 3: I mean, there's certain positions where I could see where you would say, oh, you know, this guy, if an edge rusher, somebody can block field goals, maybe vertical comes in. But these guys are preparing for the combine. So that's the tricky part is you know how good are they or how good will they be as football players? I still maintain what I see on tape on Saturday is now your medicals. The interview process like those are important. You know, are you the height that they say, the weight you say? Other than that, I just don't it's a and teams do this though, Lewis. Every year somebody's going to go, oh my god, like Anthony Richardson, somebody's gonna go by what they saw this week in Indianapolis and change what they probably saw for three months in the college football season. 00:20:14 Speaker 10: Yeah, And usually what that is is then at this point in time is where a lot of other people come into the evaluation process, namely coaches, namely administrators, you know, whether it be a team president and owner, whoever it is. They haven't been out on the road since August and September October and I've ever they have been watching tape. They've been doing their own thing. I mean, coaches have been coaching their teams. So what winds up happening is sometimes they can come in and they can Now it's important for a general manager in particular to not let this happen, but they can kind of blow up all the work that's been done all day, and next thing you know, it like everything is in chaos, when really you want to just keep the train on the tracks and keep it moving down the road. It's just another piece. It's confirmation a lot of times for what you've seen on tape. 00:21:00 Speaker 2: Yeah, or it's. 00:21:03 Speaker 10: The reason why you go back and maybe evaluate a little bit more, especially if a guy isn't as athletic in the testing numbers as you thought he looked on tape, or if a guy's a lot more athletic looking than you thought he was in the tape, then you need to go back and research was he hurt during the season, what kind of scheme was he dealing with during the season, what kind of coaching was he getting during the season. So or you know, you don't want to miss on somebody who maybe just had who dealt with an injury, dealt with a bad situation during the fall. But he is a great athlete, and quite honestly, he does have football instincts, and maybe you could wind up catching someone whose values a little depressed and wind up really hitting on him once he gets to your place. It's another it's just another data point. But I'm with you. There's no games being played right now, no guys who were catching passes, intercepting passes, rushing the passer, So let's not make crazy, wild changes on people's evaluations. Although there were some guys who really did confirm what you saw on tape. And the cool part about it, it's all the top players that were doing it and they blew it up as far as they're testing, which right now is going to make Night one of the drafts super, super exciting. 00:22:09 Speaker 3: Lewis Riddick of The Mothership, former NFL defensive back and pro personnel director with the Eagles, also was in the front office with Washington. You can see him on NFL Draft Daily three eastern weekdays on ESPN two, ESPN, APP and Disney Plus. It's weird to say, hey, is the best player, the most talented player going to be taken number one overall and the answer is no. In basketball, if the Portland Trailblazers had taken the best player in the draft, they would have taken Michael Jordan, but they at the time, you had to have a big man, so you pass, you know, a keen goes one, then you got Sam Buie. But the NFL do they do that as well. It's position you're not going to take Jeremiah Loved number one and he could be the best player in the draft, or Sony Styles or whoever you want to throw in there is it's it's the person in front of you. Aside from quarterback, it's it's need. There could be a defensive back who's the best player in the draft. He ain't gone number one, but yeah, so how do you justify when you take somebody even if you know the guy who's going to go four picks later is the best player and and you know could be a Hall of Famer, Because. 00:23:30 Speaker 10: It's it's it's always well, there's there's really there's two things. It's always like a there's always a battle between best player available and best player available at the position that you do need because you are actually trying to build a football team and you're not just collecting talent. So it's like like, look, let's just say, for instance, if somehow, some way, which it won't happen, let's just say Fernando Mendoza's slid down the board to number, you know, to number nine in Kansas City's there on the board. They're not going to take Fernando Mendoza, even if he was the best player on the board at that time, because it just doesn't make sense, right, So you're always trying to balance those two. 00:24:05 Speaker 2: Yeah, but take quarterback out of the equation. 00:24:07 Speaker 10: True, Okay, true? So I think what winds up happening is, and I remember being taught this a long time ago, you need to come up with a way in which you prioritize the positions in terms of importance one through twenty two on a football team, obviously, Okay, we'll take quarterback out at the top. So the other twenty one positions, what exactly how do you prioritize them? So you know that, Okay, when you're looking at your board like you have typically if you can picture a board, a physical board up in the draft room, you have all the positions across the top of the board horizontally, and then everybody stacked vertically within those positions, and you kind of and then you have like a grading scale on the far left and you kind of slot them in vertically a cross positions like this. So what winds up happening is depending upon how you you know, stack positions. So let's say that your top five positions are cornerback, pass rusher, defensive corner, offensive tackle, wide receiver. Let's see that those are your top five positions in that order. Most teams are going to have those five positions in some kind of order outside of quarterback. Okay, And you come up and you're and you're up on the you're on the clock, and say you're at pick five, right, and you're looking across the board and you have three guys at premium positions who are all literally, as you look horizontally across the board, on the same plane, you haven't graded exactly the same. Now is when you go to how you prioritize building a football team? Yeah, okay, and how you prioritize building a football team sometimes it's like philosophically, how you believe, you know, teams should be built. There's obviously salary cap ramifications that are involved here. So you know, a guy who winds up, you know, positions that carry a higher value in the NFL when you're talking about you know what the franchise tag would be with the average year, average salue per year would be. You want to kind of get those guys when they're younger on a rookie contract. You don't want to have to be in free agency having to find those kind of people, so you wind up prioritizing those. Number One, they have high positional value on a football team anyway, as far as how you play the game. And number two, that's usually gonna come with a higher salary, So you want as much cheap, affordable labor as you can possibly get, so you're gonna prioritize those guys higher. That's why running back, that's why it slides down the board, and that's why pass rushers, corners, offensive tackles are always gonna go higher. And there may be guys who go higher even if they are on your board. Jeremiah Love is sticking out. He's above everyone, but you're gonna but you need an offensive tackle. You may take CC mauioa from Miami, even if he is a notch below Jeremiah Love simply because of the positional value to your football team. 00:26:48 Speaker 3: But if you take Jeremiah Love in the top ten, which he probably will, which yeah, so you're gonna double down on that, you're gonna have to pay him as a top ten pick. 00:26:59 Speaker 2: Yep. 00:26:59 Speaker 3: And then if if he works out, you're gonna have to pay him again yep. Correct, Like if you draft him and he turns out to be great, then you get to that fourth year. Well, now you're doubling down on that position. So now you get into that Zeke Elliott situation, and then you go how much gas does he have left? Can I get eight years out of Jeremiah Love? And that's why teams I didn't get nervous with that top ten pick on a running back. 00:27:27 Speaker 10: You know what's also interesting about that though, See I do think traditionally, like back in the two thousand's, early twenty tens, late nineties, Yeah, you used to. You always thought about can I get how much runway can I get with a player? Can I get two contracts out of him? Can I get a decade? Can I get ten years? You see how fast the league changes now? 00:27:49 Speaker 11: How much? 00:27:49 Speaker 10: I mean coaches get two three years and they're blown up out of there. I do think the mentality has changed some, meaning, look, we got to win now. Otherwise we see how impatient owners get right now. Yeah, I think a little bit of that calculus has changed. Like I don't know if you worry about that so much as you look with Jeremiah, I wouldn't be worried about that about Dublin down and trying to figure out, you know what am I gonna do with his second contract? I just want to get through his first contract. I want to win some games. I want to be able to go worse to first like some of these teams are doing, because if I don't, I may be out of here. And the way in which he is able to help you win football games with his explosive playmaking ability, which is priority number one for every general manager and head coach right now. 00:28:31 Speaker 2: But why do did just take him at two? 00:28:34 Speaker 9: You know what? 00:28:35 Speaker 10: Probably because they're thinking this, Look, they're gonna believe at some point here. I think they're gonna franchise Breese Hall. They really do like breast ball, and Breece is a good player, and I just don't think that makes sense for them. But I think, look, could Tennessee wind up taking him, Could Arizona wind up taking him? Could the Giants at five for sure wind up taking him? I absolutely think so. I absolutely think that he may not get past the Giants at five. He's look, they saw what they gave up, and I understand why they thought they maybe needed to give this up, meaning let Sae Kwon go. But they saw the difference that he can make. They saw the difference that he can make. Now, obviously you need to make sure your sae Quon went to the perfect place with the perfect offensive line at that time. But Jeremiah is different. And I know for a fact as I hear it all the time. It's what every head coach is after. We need guys who can win games on one play. It's too hard to try and go ten to fifteen plays, and Jeremiah can do. I end up running back. Coach told me this, tell me this, Dan, He said, you know who he reminds me of. He goes don't, don't, don't. I'm not saying this is the one to one comparison, but he moves with the ease and fluidity of Eric Dickerson. That's what reminds me of. And I haven't heard anybody in my entire time of scouting since I got done playing compare anybody to Eric Dickerson. Nobody, No, but not a single runner. That was pretty high praise. And I respect the hell out of this guy who told me that. 00:29:58 Speaker 2: You're in love with love. 00:30:00 Speaker 10: Yeah, I'm not the only one. 00:30:02 Speaker 2: Yeah, everybody. Yeah he's a special Yeah. But see then I go back to the Jets. Why not have another playmaker? 00:30:09 Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, I have Breeze Hall, I get another playmaker. I want to put pressure on you on the defensive side. Yeah, now, now deal with this, we'll we'll incorporate these guys in the offense. If he's the second best, most valuable player, difference maker, I have a hard time passing. 00:30:28 Speaker 10: The only problem is, like they were, they were like epically historically bad on defense, Like they have no playmakers onside, they gave all of them away. 00:30:39 Speaker 2: We're just gonna score more points. We don't have to score one more point, Lewis. 00:30:44 Speaker 10: I mean what you're looking at is can we address it somewhere later on down the you know, down the line. I know they're gonna get a quarterback too, so that that's the other thing too, Dan, I mean, what are they gonna do with sixteen? What are they gonna do? I mean, are they gonna wind up taking a guy? And I'm sitting here looking at my board, I'm going, hey man, they got to get somebody. They gotta get somebody to pull the trigger. I know they've got so many different things going on there, but yet Jeremiah's got a lot of people right now in personnel departments sitting there going should we We saw what Jamiir Gibbs did. We know what Bjon Robinson can do. We saw what Saquan can do when he's at the right spot. Are we set up to where we can get that kind of return on investment if he's ours? And I think that's This is the fun time of year. It's a fun time of year for us. I don't know how fun it is for the teams, and you know, we're actually trying to make these decisions. But there's some dudes, man, there are some guys right now who just showed over the week, over the past week, that the athletic component of the game is skyrocketing. These athletes are insanely, insanely talented and skilled and trained, and the game has never been more more specialized and more athletic than it will be in twenty twenty six. 00:31:56 Speaker 3: That's for sure, great to talk to you as always, of course, thank you about it. Alrighty Lewis Riddick of the Mothership. Here are the updated odds DraftKings the NFL Draft. Who will be the number two overall pick after Fernando Mendoza. Rvel Reese is your favorite, then David Bailey. Baaley's out of Texas Tech is that the edge rusher all right, Ruben Bain Junior, the third, Caleb Downs, Sonny Styles, Ohio State, Ty Simpson, and then Jeremiah Love. But Jeremiah Love is plus forty five hundred, whereas rvel Reese is minus one forty. The Jets are not going to take Jeremiah Love. They're not going to take a quarterback Ty Simpson either. But Sonny Styles had a great combine, and I'm not sure what happened. Was it Carnell Tait, the Ohio State wide receiver, and he ran a pedestrian four to five, which is average, Actually it's below average. And then all of a sudden, Adam Schefter tweeted out that there were other people at the combine handheld who had him in. 00:33:11 Speaker 2: The four fours. 00:33:13 Speaker 3: Now, I don't know if Adam has mentioned this, that there are other players handheld times that would be better than the actual official time at the combine, but it certainly sounded suspicious and Drew Rosenhaus is Carnel Tate's agent. 00:33:31 Speaker 2: Now, I'm not saying that. 00:33:34 Speaker 3: Drew Rosenhaus asked Adam Schefter to Hey, there's some hand timed So wait a minute, I'm going to take a hand timed forty over the actual system that they've been using for years. What if the hand time was worse than the actual combine? 00:33:54 Speaker 2: Would he have reported that? 00:33:57 Speaker 11: Yes, yes, Marvin, But I'm going to give Tate the benefit of the out because he's an Ohio state wide receiver. I think I'll take my chances with him four five, four, six, whatever, just because of the lineage that the guys that they've produced as of lead. 00:34:10 Speaker 3: Okay, but why do we need to maybe adjust his time so you know it passes the eye test? 00:34:16 Speaker 2: Here? No clue? 00:34:17 Speaker 11: Okay, because it said I went to Ohio State as a wide receivers period. 00:34:21 Speaker 3: Yes, I went to Ohio State. I don't have to run the forty yard dash. He could have done that. But if you run a four or five whatever and then all of a sudden they're hand timed four fours. I just want to know if Adam has reported on any other players that had hand times that might have been better than their forty yard dash. I'm not saying, but I'm just saying. Then we'll go around the infield here for best and worst. 00:35:32 Speaker 2: Yeah, we got two of them up there. 00:35:33 Speaker 8: One of them we just sort of took part in, not really which combine event do you think you would do worse than forty bench vertical or wonder like? The vertical is followed very closely by a bench press. People very competent in their wonder likabilities and the best month of the year for Sports. October obviously the huge winner, but March is coming in a very respectable second. 00:35:56 Speaker 2: Yes, Paul. 00:35:57 Speaker 4: Two years ago, the NFL made it optional to take the Wonderlick. No longer mandatory as of the twenty twenty three combine. 00:36:05 Speaker 9: Yeah. 00:36:05 Speaker 2: I remember talking to somebody at the players Association. 00:36:07 Speaker 3: They said, we don't want to have our players take it if you're going to reveal the results. But they were going to get out because all it takes is one person to tell one person, and then you know, one of these NFL insiders has that information, and then you're, uh, you're gonna reveal it. Todd, I'll start with you best and worst of the weekend. 00:36:27 Speaker 6: My best of the weekend the Nuggets thunder game. Very entertaining Friday night thunder. It took it one twenty seven in overtime. Sga scored thirty six, and his return from a strained abdomen okase able to pull away with this star on the bench during the overtime period. Worst fourteenth rank Kansas lost with a third time in their last five games, falling to number two Arizona. 00:36:45 Speaker 2: No shame in losing to number two, but. 00:36:47 Speaker 6: Three out of five losses they lose by twenty three points in Tucson Seaton. 00:36:52 Speaker 8: My best of the weekend, I'm going Kenyon Sadik. That dude had a monster combine. He ran a sub for four, he jumped, He had a forty plus inch vertical and he jumped over eleven feet at two hundred and twenty pounds. 00:37:08 Speaker 2: That's crazy. That kid's a thing. 00:37:12 Speaker 8: My worst of the weekend actually the Ohio State Buckeyes. If you're watching the Combine and you see one after the other, absolute superstar player Rvel Reese, you have, oh, look Sunny Styles, Look Caleb Downs didn't he barely even mentioned him, Caden McDonald. They had all of these players showcased at the Combine this week. It's like, man, how did they not win a national championship? How did they not win a Big ten championship? 00:37:34 Speaker 2: Yeah? 00:37:35 Speaker 3: The Kenyan Sadik. I remember they were playing Indiana and I saw him on the field and I go, oh, be damn, Who's who's going to try to guard him? But a tight end. He's six three two forty uh and he ran a four to three nine forty yard dash, forty three and a half vertical. 00:37:53 Speaker 2: Man. 00:37:53 Speaker 8: For some reason, he reminds me of like different positions, but just the way like he looks when he plays and the way he plays. He reminds me of like an kum Bolden or somebody. Yeah, he has like this sort of shape about him and the way that he just looks out there. 00:38:06 Speaker 2: He's like the second coming Marvin. Best and worst of the weekend, Best. 00:38:10 Speaker 11: Of the weekend, nobody's here. You come forward. Alice Caraban scoring twenty three points and it went over Seaton Hall. And before the game he was adducted into the Huskies of honor. Sorry seating about Seaton Hall? What what? What should have been? What should have been my best? 00:38:25 Speaker 8: Beating an unranked team at home? 00:38:27 Speaker 2: It doesn't really seem like that much. The biggest it's the Big East. No, No, Seaton Hall is not the Big East. 00:38:32 Speaker 8: Whoa whoa Okay, now that is unnecessary. 00:38:36 Speaker 2: You take that back another fire. How damny Hall is East? Whoas of the East? Are you kidding me? What the hell? What else? Marvin? 00:38:46 Speaker 11: Worse than the weekend twentieth rank Arkansas getting molly wopped by thirty four points and losing to Florida. 00:38:53 Speaker 3: I didn't want to reach out to John Caliperry after that one. You know, sometimes if they play well, I'll send him a text, Paul, Best and worst of the week. 00:39:01 Speaker 4: Best of the weekend watching the combine offensive tackle from Bama Caden Proctor six seven three fifty two. He dropped fifteen pounds for the combine. He ran a five two one forty, which is actually great. His vertical is thirty three inches at six seven three fifty two. What an unbelievable prospect. And then, uh, the worst of the weekend usc basketball one of their leading scorers, Chad Baker Mazara. He came out of the game and he couldn't tup. He has hurt or not. And then when he said he couldn't go back in, he went and sat in the stands next to the fans and doesn't look like he's going to continue with the team. 00:39:37 Speaker 2: Very awkward story. Hmm. 00:39:40 Speaker 4: Okay, he's no longer a member of the men's basketball team, the school announced on Sunday. Dang awkward moments. 00:39:46 Speaker 11: Yeah, Mark, he's also twenty six years old. Legit, he's twenty six. 00:39:51 Speaker 3: Yeah. I was a completely different player at twenty five than I was at eighteen or nineteen. And you see some of the like Greg Golden. When I saw Greg Oden when he was a freshman at Ohio State, I go, he ain't eighteen, he ain't nineteen e Look, he was about thirty seven. Jeffrey in Michigan, Hi, jeff. 00:40:16 Speaker 9: Good morning, guys, Good morning. I got a T shirt idea. And the best and the worst of the weekend a T shirt idea. I survived the great Dan Patrick fire of twenty six. Wow, that's great. I would totally buy. 00:40:26 Speaker 10: One of those. 00:40:28 Speaker 9: Best of the weekend was the Michigan State University Ohio State hockey game. That fourteen round overtime shootout was insane. And then the worst of the weekend are these rumors about David Montgomery wanting out of Detroit. We can't break up Sonic and knuckles Man. 00:40:46 Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, he wants to be the featured back. I'm not going to be that with Jamir Gibbs. But that was a great two headed monster. All right, two hours in the books, one more to go. We'll talk to Jeremy Fowler. He's an NFL reporter for the Mother's and just the quarterback situation going on, and you know, something as simple as Mendoza goes so the Raiders, is he going to go in as a starter, who's the backup? Kyler Murray to Minnesota? What about two to Minnesota? Anybody going to the Jets, anybody anybody, So we'll talk about the quarterback carousel. March is here, Combine is over moving towards the draft.
