00:01:13
Speaker 3: Seven yes, thirty something thirty something. I don't have it.

00:01:17
Speaker 2: What is it? Five oh two seven because five plus two equals seven? Huh thirty five thirty six eighty? This rolls off the tone.

00:01:26
Speaker 3: How could I possibly forget that?

00:01:28
Speaker 2: Five O two seven three five three six eighty. The Avision Glass tech machine is back in hand because Matt is not with us this week. He's off. Matter of fact, Drew Matt is off, Shannon is off, Billy r Sports is off, and Mario is off.

00:01:43
Speaker 3: How does this keep happening when I'm working? I distinctly remember a meeting where we all can't leave at the same time, And now this is twice in one calendar year where everyone's just just left and left me behind. At least I have you this time. Earlier you were part of the group that left me too.

00:01:57
Speaker 2: Well. They put all this on your shoulders because they know you could handle it, okay, And that's why we had Drew week. We had did we tell it Drew Palooza all week. You know, with all your special guests. You hosted the show and did a great job. That's why we had total faith and confidence in you.

00:02:10
Speaker 3: Wasn't Shannon on vacation last week?

00:02:12
Speaker 2: I think?

00:02:12
Speaker 3: And he gets a vacation this week.

00:02:13
Speaker 2: I texted him last night. I said, Shannon, I, so are you back in Kentucky yet? He said no, I said, when you're coming back January second?

00:02:20
Speaker 3: Unbelievable. Well, I feel like it's been a vacation.

00:02:23
Speaker 2: I don't think.

00:02:24
Speaker 3: Have we had a morning show since last Tuesday. No, it's been quite the gap here.

00:02:29
Speaker 2: Tuesday before Christmas development game, we did the thirty minute KSR with Jack Pilgrim and me, then we did the pregame show, had the game, did the postgame show. We've not had a live show since. Not even the pre show was live this morning, so we are first. This our first time back. So let's just kind of recap. How is your Christmas?

00:02:46
Speaker 3: Oh, it's a great Christmas. Also great to be here at Legs and Catholic High School.

00:02:48
Speaker 2: We yo the Lexi Catholic Christmas Holiday Classic they've had for over thirty years is going on this week and they're down to the final four. We we'll tell you about who's playing today and what's coming up. But they were nice enough to invite us to come out today. So I'm like, well, yeah, yeah, we'll do it. Come out here, want to do the show during the little basketball.

00:03:06
Speaker 3: We've done this many times. I remember one year we got some Ben Johnson t shirts when you scoring a million points. This one feels a little awkward. I don't remember an active practice. You know, Brandon Salzman's down there trying to coach him up and we're up here yapping about KSR. I feel like we're disturbing him a little bit. It's kind of quiet down there.

00:03:22
Speaker 2: And that's that's the Lex cath varsity team. And they played tonight in the final four at six thirty. So I guess this is their shoot around walk through shooting around.

00:03:29
Speaker 3: It's a big hank wood All down there, Hank.

00:03:31
Speaker 2: Woodall who wears number forty one. Well, Pope, the mark Pope forty one is back at Lexton Catholic. So uh so, yeah, So how was your Christmas? What'd you get? What was under your tree?

00:03:42
Speaker 1: Uh?

00:03:42
Speaker 3: Whatn't a normal Christmas? We didn't do a lot of a gifting. You know, Abby and I are expecting, so all the gifts we got our baby clothes and baby things.

00:03:51
Speaker 2: The days of you getting something are over.

00:03:53
Speaker 3: Those are long, Agne. I'm fine with that. A little bit of unique circumstances. We have some some health problems going around the family. My mom is in the hospital. She had surgery last week. It went well, so we're happy there, but she's still recovering. So it was a unique Christmas. I spent time in the hospital. We'd even get our decorations up, so didn't feel like Christmas, but we still enjoyed the time away. Outside of the circumstances, made up to Ohio for a night to check in on Abby's family. They were going through stuff too, so the Frankls. We have a lot on our plate, but we still managed to get through the holiday and have a good one.

00:04:23
Speaker 2: I'm glad you said that about your mom because at the end of the post game show, trying to give a shout out to get a prayer chain going for our family, got a little emotional because your mom means a lot to us. Matt's dad, Larry going through some stuff and just kind of hit me all at one time. But I'm glad you said that your mom was doing Oh, she went through the surgery fine, and she's doing it a little better.

00:04:41
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's why I was gone Tuesday, mister Bellerman game too. She was in surgery during the game, but she's over UK. It went well, so thank you to the team. She's still recovering. Hopefully get her out soon. But it was a different last week for us. But all things considered, it went well and we're pushing forward, very ready for twenty twenty six though, right I got a met The list of things we've gone through this year is a bit much for one one family to take. So we're very excited about New Year's Eve coming up. But we're doing well overall.

00:05:08
Speaker 2: The Franklin family is way overdue for some good news happened in that family.

00:05:12
Speaker 3: Yeah, but we still enjoyed Christmas had some time away. As I said, I didn't get see Bellerman, but I tried to stay in touch throughout that wild day. I heard before I had to go over to the hospital on Tuesday, I did hear your I don't want to call it awkward because it wasn't awkward, but it was like a weird You all did a morning show then flipped a switch. I don't even think there was a commercial break, but I heard you and Jack the last time KSR was live on Tuesday, So thank you Jack for filling in, and you did a good job. And those unique circumstances. Before the the rare one pm weekday.

00:05:41
Speaker 2: Game, yeah, the ten thirty am basketball pregame show started, we had to we had to fill thirty minutes of KSR, so we tried to do a little bit. Also, I wanted to say that Matt's dad, Larry, also doing better. He's home recovering, so, you know, if life Dore was a couple of curve balls, but we're getting through it. My dad's going through some stuff right now. So everybody's kind of on the jury list, on the disabled list right now.

00:06:01
Speaker 3: Yeah, we appreciate all the prayers from the listeners and everyone I know. Matt posted some selfies with his parents. They were all smiles. They're doing well. We won't hear from him for a while, but they're doing as good as can be too.

00:06:13
Speaker 2: So he mentioned the Bellman game. That's obviously the biggest event that's happened since we've been gone. There's only really two storylines I want to get your take on both of them. We won the emergence of Cam Williams eight three pointers. Matter of fact, he was eight of ten. He only took ten shots three all of them were three pointers, and he hit eight of them. That's the Cam Willias we've been waiting to see since he signed, as he committed during March Madness last year.

00:06:36
Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, I'll take my victory lap. He was my MVP pick. The MVP run that I'm on this season is truly history.

00:06:41
Speaker 2: It is unbelieving.

00:06:41
Speaker 3: I'm not great at picking the outcome of the games or the scores of games, but I'm close to bat in a thousand on MVP picks. I and others have been saying here recently, more Cam Williams and more Cam Williams. Whatever it takes, give him an opportunity. I didn't foresee him to go off quite like he did, but I did know there was a lot more he was ready to unleash. And I'm glad he had a breakout game. You know, I know it's Bellerman. Leave the opponent acide. He needed to see some shots go in and having a career day like that. It just gets me excited about what he can do next when we finally get back to playing basketball here on Saturday.

00:07:13
Speaker 2: The guys that go to practice, they just say he just doesn't miss in practice. Well, that hadn't translated it into the games. Okay, we saw it against Bellavan. What they're talking about now?

00:07:21
Speaker 3: Yeah, and he and Noah are considered the two shooters who have shot so well in practice. But Williams just has another level to his game that Noah can't reach. Defensively, he's been pretty solid all year. There's a point where he had the highest plus minus on the team. He's been rebounding well when he's in. He's just his opportunities have been limited. But here lately just keeps getting better and better and stacking those games. Is now he's made it to where Pope has to have him in the main rotation. Maybe not a starter, but he's gonna have to play a lot of minutes.

00:07:48
Speaker 2: That's going to say do you start him now? Because they seem to play better when you when you got somebody on the can spread the floor, they can knock down shots like that. That just opens up things for Otega, who almost had a triple double. That's crazy point ten rebounds Otega almost a triple double. Good for him.

00:08:03
Speaker 3: And then another guy who Cam would you know he's got to take somebody's minutes. I mean, Diabotte had a great game. He did quite as filling up the box score as those other guys, but he showed how valuable he is. All three of them were great. I will say since I wasn't watching, there was a moment where I looked at my phone early in the game, but it was like Bellerman was winning, like fifteen to fourteen, and I put my phone back in my pocket. I was like, I can't go through this today. But what happened in the beginning. I know it got better and it turned into a beautiful, incredible, extraordinary win. But why why was it close in the beginning?

00:08:33
Speaker 2: Well, that gets us to the other side, the other talking point. Bellerman did whatever they wanted to do on offense. They executed their offense and did whatever they wanted and Kentucky could not stop them. Kentucky's defense had problems the entire game.

00:08:48
Speaker 3: Bellerman, the Knights from the City of Level.

00:08:51
Speaker 2: That's them, Okay, okay, yeah, that the team used to be Division two in the same commerce with Kentucky Wesleyan, bitter rival for Kentucky. Wesleyan just did wherever they wanted against Kentucky. So the alarm bells were sounding during the post game show, like because look, you know against against Indiana, they held Indiana and Saint John's both under seventy two powers teams, and you let Bellerman do whatever they wanted. So where are we on the defense?

00:09:16
Speaker 3: We got to get better than these first halfs. I mean we I've enjoyed our our comebacks against Saint John's and our our comeback against Indiana. I think are down seven at halftime in Bath. The games you know last year there was this issue I mean Bellerman. I know it was only for a few minutes. You go on to win by ten and guys had great games. But whatever is happening in the early on in these games, we gotta get that fixed.

00:09:37
Speaker 2: So are you all leaning more towards they're a good defensive team like they were against Indiana Saint John's and just kind of took it easy against Bellerman or are we really kind of a bad defensive team at times this?

00:09:49
Speaker 3: I mean, I still worry about defense. This one I will chalk up to these holiday games. There if you go back in time, there's a lot of them that have been from the team.

00:09:57
Speaker 2: Very true, at one.

00:09:57
Speaker 3: O'clock they had just gotten their their big a little bit of a win streak they needed before Christmas. I'll chalk that one up to just weird circumstances. I know Quittons didn't play much, Load didn't play at all. I think, well, they'll get better now the schedule gets much harder. But I mean, we'll get back to that full strength that we saw in the second half of Saint John's. Well we'll throw away Bellerman say. It was just a good game to get some guys going, like Cam Williams and your boy Jasper with a big game.

00:10:22
Speaker 2: Played well, had seven assists. You know, he still maybe takes some bad shots once in a while, but as a point guard, I think he had seven assists and one turnover.

00:10:30
Speaker 3: And we're at the point, you know, there's been a debate where they look for someone looks like they won't somebody have to step up. Yeah, behind Low and hopefully not in place of Low, but that will be a concern all year. And you know, in the last non conference you know, team not ranked in the top whatever. You know, Jasper made the most of that opportunity to tell Pope he wants a little more, a little more minutes there.

00:10:50
Speaker 2: So load didn't play. That was the right move, right, Yeah.

00:10:52
Speaker 3: That was definitely the right move. I think everybody was in on that. I mean, you could give him this is such a long break between games. If you just take him out like they I mean, that's that's pretty unique middle of the year to be able to rest the shoulder from thost two weeks like that.

00:11:04
Speaker 2: And as you said, Quainton's had limited minutes. Didn't play it all the second half, play a little bit in the first half, didn't really need him, but yet kind of get throw him out there enough just to kind of continue to get that rust knocked off a little bit, getting ready for sec place coming up next.

00:11:16
Speaker 3: I like the clip again. He just had the guy with the by Cameramber, the players name for Bella mamb He was just in hell. He couldn't dribble, he couldn't pass, he couldn't turn around. Quaints just kind of got his belly out and his massive wingspan out. He was doing that. It's a Saint John's big guy too. I just ye so excited for what he brings defensively, especially in those one on one matchups.

00:11:35
Speaker 2: Now you know it's a long break between the Bellman game and the Alabama game coming up on Saturday. I'm not so sure I like that long break. You know, you've played these played what eleven games, and you're kind of getting yourself fine, fine tune. We got Low back and you've got Quayton's back. Now you gotta take a long break. But you play Alabama the lead off your SEC schedule.

00:11:55
Speaker 3: It's it's good for Low, but as a fan in stinks. We just got a sting Quentin's and then big win, I mean rich and to see more basketball. I guess we'll get a few. Pope will break the silence. We have his call in show tonight and maybe a press conference tomorrow, so at least get some updates. But that's nothing like real basketball. I can't wait. Even though I don't feel great about the trip to Alabama, that's a heck of an opener for SEC play. I'm excited to just get back to basketball.

00:12:19
Speaker 2: It's too long of a lull that we're in here, so one more thankful. We put it to the Beller in game to bed after the game was over mark, Pope does his press conference with the media and he comes out and talks to Tom Leach and the fans, and then he rewarded the fans that's stuck around after the game by going to one of the big suitees down there at Reparena and had an autograph session. All the guys were there. They would sign whatever they want for as long as they want. Make sure everybody got an autograph. Little Christmas gift for the folks that stayed around in Reparena after the game.

00:12:48
Speaker 3: And that was awesome. Another win for Pope with the fan base and in that game especially. You know, it's a lot of people that aren't normally there. They're getting end me down tickets for season ticket holders don't feel like going. Maybe you're in visiting family for the holidays. You get to go ticket. It's a lot cheaper, so people can buy them secondary market. It's just a it's a different crowd at these December games when school's out, and you know, everybody appreciates it, but if all of all home games people that would appreciate it the most, that was probably the one. So I think it was cool Pope did it there, and you know, being at games over at three you have so much time and players aren't rushing out of there. It's not Christmas hit. So it's very cool for them to do that, and looks like they had a huge turnout after the game, taking it very cool.

00:13:29
Speaker 2: Like you said, these are a lot of new faces. People that come into the holidays out of town, get those tickets in their stocking. Here is early Christmas present, go to the game.

00:13:35
Speaker 3: Yeah, there's just a different excitement for these games. You can tell it's people that aren't normally there or not that you know, everybody's excited to go to Rapperina, but this is more of a once in a lifetime or once a season crowd.

00:13:47
Speaker 2: So take our break, we'll come back. Go to the phone lines eight five nine two O two two eight seven. We got Rick the Writer in the studio in the booth answering your phone calls today all week with us, all week with Rick, You and me and Rick the Writer, and we've got the APIs and glass tech machine and the number is.

00:14:01
Speaker 3: Drew eight five nine, So no, no fao two seven thirty eight thirty five thirty five thirty six five two seven thirty five thirty six eighty.

00:14:12
Speaker 2: There you go, just rolls off the tongue. We'll right back right, Andrew. This is Kentucky's Port Radio. All right, welcome back right and Drew. Here on Kentucky's Ports Radio. We are live today at Lexton Catholic High School. We'll talk more a little more about that in a minute. But who's this segment sponsored by Andrew?

00:14:26
Speaker 3: How about p Rats? How about p rat, it locally owned and operated appliance, furniture and mattress store that has served the area for over seventy five years. Even after seventy five years, p rats keeps getting better with age, being voted the best appliance retailer in the Bluegrass the last six straight years. Unlike the big box stores, our p rats team are experts at helping make your house a home can with convenient locations, amazing prices and service after the sale. Visit p rats in Lexington and Richmond or at p rats dot com.

00:14:56
Speaker 2: We are at Lexi Catholic High School. That we'd said is the lectioning their annual holiday classic, which usually between the week between Christmas and New Year's Fright. Greer and Maggert the sponsored this year it's been had a lot of different names, but it's been around Drew for like over thirty years, and they've had some monster players to play in this over the years. I know a lot of guys that played in the NBA. Elton Brand played in this tournament.

00:15:18
Speaker 3: Brand played in the Okay.

00:15:20
Speaker 2: Of course, Reed Shepherd played in this tournament many many times. Scotty Hopson from over in Uha played here. Darius Miller, Shelvin Mack, A lot of these guys that go and played in the NBA, they've all played in this turnament. Raijon Rondo played in this tournament. Forgot about him. But there's been some great stories. One is the Brandon Stockton story where Tubby just came here just to watch a couple of basketball games. Just so happens Brandon Stockton and Glasgow's playing. Brandon lit him up for like who they were playing, like fifty points. Tubby offening a scholarship from watching him just in the right here in this game this in this event. And of course Chris Lofton had like eighty one game. I mean he was he was shooting him from he'd keep step across half court and just start bombing him and just kept hitting him, So a lot of good stories they are generated out of this Lexton Catholic Holiday Classic.

00:16:09
Speaker 3: Yeah, probably a lot of guys have earned scholarships to different schools over the years from this, Stockton being a headliner. I think my guy Aaron Fleeener was on his team that year. That might be the one where he always says he and Stockton combined for fifty one. And I think throw my Madisonville Maroons.

00:16:25
Speaker 2: Have been this in a few times.

00:16:27
Speaker 3: You know, we don't have the names of Elton brand, but we've had some good teams show up. Anytime Madisonville's played in this, I've made it over to catch all their games. Was Malcolm Reno in this last week? I remember watching that game here too, So yeah, it's always a fun event. Like I said, it's been a tradition here in Lexington for uh seems like forever.

00:16:44
Speaker 2: Travis Perry and Lyon County were here the last couple of years as well.

00:16:47
Speaker 3: He did he play reading this, I know they had a big showdown. It might have been in this class.

00:16:51
Speaker 2: It may have been one year. I believe it was not.

00:16:54
Speaker 3: We'll just say it is and go with it.

00:16:55
Speaker 2: So coming up at noon, McCracken County's gonna play Woodford County and that's the team. That's the game that'll be warming up probably towards the end of our show. Second game today is Great Crossing versus Marshall. But the final four tonight Lexton Catholic versus Boyd County and then Davis County versus North Laurel, North Worl Cayanna upset last night. They beat Brian Station last night. So the final fourth set, yeah, is the DraftKings points Bread out yet?

00:17:18
Speaker 3: No, but we can picked the final four here.

00:17:19
Speaker 2: Okay, through the final four? First got the first game is Lexon Catholic Boyd County.

00:17:23
Speaker 3: Well, I mean, since I'm watching in lex and Catholic right now, have a little bit of advantage. I like what they're running. I'm not gonna give it away what Brandon Salizman has been telling them, but I like the size with number forty one, Hank Woodall, number twenty four, whose name is Escaping, means yeah, he's he's he's their best player, right He's.

00:17:39
Speaker 2: He's been that size since he was in middle school. Well he was Duncan in middle school.

00:17:43
Speaker 3: So I will take lex Catholic here great coaching to well.

00:17:46
Speaker 2: Brandon Salizman is the dean of coaches around the area here. He's been here at Lexton Callock since you were a baby, right here for so long. Second game tonight? Then is Davis County in North Laurel. North Worrel's got the Davidson kid, rehese Davidson, who's really really good. County's got a kid too. Gosh, of course I can't think of his name right now. He's really good. Also, they both had Division one offers. Who you like, Davis County from the third region or North Laurel from the thirteenth region.

00:18:10
Speaker 3: I know Davidson's one of the top players in the state. I think he's ranked second and on three. But I gotta go with your hometown of Owensborough and Davids County here shine a little light on my side of the state.

00:18:20
Speaker 2: You know. Once it's one of my hometown I know.

00:18:23
Speaker 3: That's why I picked him.

00:18:24
Speaker 2: To Davis County. All right, So there's your Draft Kings segment. I don't know if we can have a high school tournament.

00:18:29
Speaker 3: In draft Yeah, probably not. Oh, it can still be our segment. You mentioned Woodford's here, isn't that where my guy mellow Boone went Or am I get my schools wrong?

00:18:38
Speaker 2: Say again, mellow Boone didn't he go to Woodford. He went to Whippard his senior year.

00:18:42
Speaker 3: That's right. I have to bring him up. Did you have you kept up with how well he's playing at Western?

00:18:46
Speaker 2: Yes?

00:18:47
Speaker 3: You remember I saw him at Douglas. Yes, and he was a freshman. Yes, And we used to have our KSR recruits. I think Matt had one football player he named a four star five years ago. It ended up being awesome, And I said, I don't know anything about this freshman, but he's my favorite player in the state. That was when he was just a little bitty baby at Douglas, little baby. Now he has won Conference USA Freshman of the Year four times already four times. Only December he had a nasty dunk against Vanderbilt. They played them close at Western having some great games. But you mentioned Woodford and he came to mind. I hated that he left Douglas to go play there, but uh, we got to shout him out. He's having a great freshman season in bowling Greek.

00:19:23
Speaker 2: Yeah, I grew up here in next didn't play his first three years at Douglas transferred to Woodford free senior year to play with Jasper. Still mad about it, but Jasper then left to play an overtime elite. So they that could have been a super team with those two guys would have been together.

00:19:34
Speaker 3: Yeah, they went to create a duo and Jasper left him hanging and stepped away. But still a good good for Mellow having a great freshman season at Western so far.

00:19:41
Speaker 2: So the Davis County player's name is Jonathan Moss okay, and he already has an offer from Maryland and he's a mister basketball cannon.

00:19:48
Speaker 3: I like my pick even more. Go Davis count.

00:19:50
Speaker 2: All right, eight five nine two eight two two eight seven. That's a Clark's publish out phone number. We'll get some calls with promised to day, but we got so many things that gotta catch up.

00:19:57
Speaker 3: One been so long I haven't seen you, So let's talk.

00:19:59
Speaker 2: We did some basketball talk, let's do some football talk.

00:20:02
Speaker 3: Okay.

00:20:02
Speaker 2: The biggest news from UK football I think was that Ty Bryant decided to stay. Schools were coming after him hard for obvious reasons. You know, he's gonna be one of the top safeties in the conference next year. There were some big name schools throwing some big time money at him. He decides to stay for his senior year at Kentucky. I think that's huge.

00:20:23
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean he you know, the year didn't go as well as we wanted as Kentucky fans, but tied. It led to sec and interceptions led Kentucky and tackles. I think he's the only All conference player Kentucky had this year. So if you're gonna bring somebody back, he was already a leader in the locker room. He's played every game since he's been at UK as a true freshman. We're excited for Stein to go out and bring in new players, new locker room, but you want to keep a little continenty, and I can't think of a better guy to keep than ty Bryant in the back of that defense. With how well he's played and how many games he's played.

00:20:54
Speaker 2: It sounds like the reports to coach Stein and the defensive coordinator of Shackelford, the new defensive win what's his name, Bateman till Shackle, those two guys convinced Tye to stick around be our leader that we need on defense. And you know Cisco's been on our show. His dad, Ciskel's been on our show many times. He's a good friend of mine, so I was excited to see that Ty decided to kind of be a part of something new. It's gonna happen here at.

00:21:19
Speaker 3: Kentucky and we lean with the local kids. You know, we just mentioned Douglas Avella, but me Todd Bryant growing up in Les didn't connection to Cisco. We've been watching forever. It's good for him to hang around. You mentioned another offers he got. People were watching Florida with with some raw and just and Brad White following that operation.

00:21:36
Speaker 2: I mean, that'd be.

00:21:37
Speaker 3: Hard to turn down a team of that caliber in the conference, even though Florida's been down lately. But it's good Tom made the decision to stay. I think that'll be a big help in the locker room as everything becomes new again, having having to hang around to bridge the gap.

00:21:49
Speaker 2: And also, Coach Stein added a lot of fans were happy to see a special teams coach. Parker Fleming comes with Stein on his staff at Oregon right like offense analyst or something in Oregon brings him here to be a special teams coach and inside receivers coach at Kentucky.

00:22:07
Speaker 3: Yeah, he was the coordinator at special teams coordinator Ohio State for several years too. But now there Raush and lucktter As saying he still might be in an analyst role in that actual true assistant recruiting spot still might be open. So Parker Fleming is on the staff, but it's unclear if he's actually gonna be a true assistant, so that might still be open. But bringing him over to help with special teams guy that's been at Oregon Ohio State, then hob my goodness, Yeah, we'll take the help. Getting a lot of coaches just from winning cultures, even though the team wasn't good in the last year. You getting lsu aam Oregon bringing in a lot of guys from winning places.

00:22:41
Speaker 2: Great point. All right, we'll take our break, come back. We'll go to the phone calls eight five nine two whitto two two eight seven at the Clark's Publish out phone number eight five nine twito cats, Ryan and Drew, this is Kentucky's Ports Radio. All right, welcome back, Ryan Leman, Drew Franklin here Kentucky Sports Radio. Matt Shannon, Billy Mario, All off, this holiday week. So Ryan and Drew are gonna hold on the FOURT with Rick Rick the Rider in the studio. We're at Lexton Callock High School today. We've got some holiday classic facts you want to share with us.

00:23:07
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's gotten quiet. They're really doing a lot of instruction. I feel like we're interrupting. Yeah, but right about where Brandon Salzman standing, No one can see that. But last night Cooper Elsa from North Laurel hit a full court shot in that game against Brin's Station.

00:23:21
Speaker 2: Right, oh yeah, they beat Brian Station last year.

00:23:23
Speaker 3: But a full court shot for Cooper Elsa's shout out to him. Have a few comments from the.

00:23:28
Speaker 2: Board also, okay, all right, let's do it.

00:23:30
Speaker 3: People are enjoying the shoes squeaks. They said, it's like CBS in the background, kind of like we're pumping in bird noises on at the Masters. We got a little little basketball break.

00:23:39
Speaker 2: Earlier they were doing their practice and now they're doing like their breakdown their scout on the team. They got to play tonight, Davis. No, they played Boyd County. Who I did hear him say? Average is thirty four to threes a game. Don't be giving away the game plan. This is this secret, this is stat is facts. Okay, Boyd County averages thirty four to threes a game, and they hit seventeen the night against GRC. I just heard him say that.

00:24:01
Speaker 3: Okay, Well tell them what we just heard about the plumbing because the invite is in their private practice. It's like that time we're at the SEC tournament and we weren't supposed to be in practice and Tom Hart walked over, He's like, what.

00:24:11
Speaker 2: Are you all doing? Here? Was it in Texas A and M we watch we were.

00:24:14
Speaker 3: Getting all kinds of the inside baseball we weren't supposed to get. I kind of feel like that's happening again. Also from the board though, doing our show from Boyd County, James W. Nineteen eighty eight on KS Board says, watch out, one of the most underrated players in the state is Jacob Spurlock. Oh boycounting. Okay, maybe I should go down and tell them. If they don't already know.

00:24:33
Speaker 2: I bet they've already talked about him on the scout. Right now, they're breaking they're breaking down what they're gonna do against Boyd County to night.

00:24:38
Speaker 3: Well, that comes from James W. Nineteen eighty eight, and I trust him.

00:24:41
Speaker 2: I do too. You know Raijon Rondo, we mentioned him. His son is in this tournament right now, Pierre as the point guard for North Oldham as an eighth grader.

00:24:51
Speaker 3: That's crazy.

00:24:51
Speaker 2: That's crazy. And I think he's averaging like close to twenty a game already as an eighth grader.

00:24:55
Speaker 3: I'm torn on all this. Like player as I grew up watching, now having kids that are playing, Yes, on one hand, it's cool and I'm happy for them. On the other hand, I just want to go getting bet at the nursing home and go to sleep. It makes me feel so old, even though it is exciting that, you know, Rondo is one of a million examples, but the fact that he has a kid, even though he is only in middle school, that is already playing and we're talking about and watching, that's it's it's kind of there's two sides to that. I don't like how old it makes me feel.

00:25:23
Speaker 2: So north Oldham lost to Boyd County last night, and I'm not sure who they play next in the loser's bracket, but the game that's coming up is Woodford County McCracken County. That's our game. We got cut.

00:25:34
Speaker 3: Well, I have your full schedule if you'd want to. Okay, well, what would you like to know?

00:25:37
Speaker 2: Where does North Oldham play in Pierre Rondo? When is his next game?

00:25:42
Speaker 3: They play Lion County at four thirty today.

00:25:44
Speaker 2: At four to thirty today, Yes, all right, how.

00:25:45
Speaker 3: About you want we just run through it twelve o'clock, twelve o'clock right here, right as the show ends, We'll hand it off right to Woodford County versus McCracken. Yeah, at one thirty little Marshall County, great crossing, two thirty West Jestsman versus Paintsville. I skipped over one o'clock Colin versus Taylor County. Then you got a little boyd Lexton Catholic in North Laurel Davis County tonight.

00:26:05
Speaker 2: Those are the final four in the championship. But basketball all day here, all day County White gra Why Magnet Holiday Classic kind of non basketball, nonsports related. Do you know there was like an earthquake just down the road in Garrett County yesterday?

00:26:18
Speaker 3: Yeah, Lancaster. I'm not great at scales, but a three point one seen.

00:26:23
Speaker 2: It feels like it's kind of big.

00:26:24
Speaker 3: Yeah. The stories I was reading said it could be felt in Danville and Richmond. Oh really, yeah, I don't know if everyone felt it, but yeah, it at least registered that far away.

00:26:34
Speaker 2: I felt like that got underreported. The earthquake's a big deal, right, I think it's a big deal, and why is it happening in Garrett County.

00:26:40
Speaker 3: And just had you know. Luckily it wasn't too bad, no big damage or anything, but it's just more of the weather stuff happened around katalking.

00:26:47
Speaker 2: I'm tired of it well, especially since it was seventy one degrees yesterday. I'm outside working around my pool yesterday seventy one and today driving to work it was forty five degrees cooler twenty six.

00:27:00
Speaker 3: Last night I did cover zero with Matt. I've checked in with Matt.

00:27:03
Speaker 2: How's he doing.

00:27:04
Speaker 3: He's doing well. I can share matt scoop later if you'd like. But we did it a little after midnight. It's pretty late and I have the window to my room wide open, letting the airhead as it cover zero. Just a little quick nap and I get up later. It's snowing and I'm freezing just trying to get to my car. Crazy turned around from open window to blizzard in just a few hours.

00:27:24
Speaker 2: What in the name of Bill Mack is going on?

00:27:26
Speaker 3: I don't know.

00:27:26
Speaker 2: I dropped forty five degrees overnight.

00:27:29
Speaker 3: Is the earthquake related?

00:27:31
Speaker 2: Maybe?

00:27:32
Speaker 3: Have you ever been in an earthquake?

00:27:34
Speaker 2: I think I've been in two. I was in a summer school class in Jasper, Indiana, and it was a chemistry class and the beakers started shaking. You know when the room place starts saying the beakers were all show. We're like, we didn't know what was going on. That's only one of you.

00:27:48
Speaker 3: Yeah, Matt and together we were with the Tennis channel at Indian Wells out there in California. We just checked in the hotel. We're like dropping bags. And then there was one while we were at the hotel together. It, I mean, everything was moving. I don't know how would it register on the scale, but it felt like I was on a ride in the room was on the ride with me because everything was moving around. It was quick, didn't last more than five to ten seconds. But I've never experienced a thing like it.

00:28:14
Speaker 2: But no one, no damage in Garrett County though right hopefully not.

00:28:17
Speaker 3: No, they're not in Richmond, Daniel, but also felt it, but we need to figure out our weather.

00:28:20
Speaker 2: Here eight five nine two two two eight seven. Rick, who's our first caller? Since we're get minniacin for most of the show? Roy of first? Roy, go ahead, Roy.

00:28:30
Speaker 4: Yeah, how you guys doing? I want to make two comments and see what you think about them. I watched the Oregon football game last Saturday, and the second quarter all they talked about was will Stein going to Kentucky. We got more pub on that show than you would have paid three million dollars for in the Super Bowl. Uh. I wish somebody would tell Mark Pope he needs to get another point guard because if Jalen Low goes down, that's it, you know, all right? I know, but I don't think he can be I appreciate it.

00:29:08
Speaker 2: Let's take the two the two points that Roy brought up, the fact that Oregon is still alive and will Stein is staying with Oregon to be their offensive coordinator. It is giving Kentucky a lot of publicity, but even the boat that he needs to be here in Lexington, boots on the ground getting a transfer portal, people lined up to come in. Yeah.

00:29:25
Speaker 3: Selfishly, I had one up here getting his job done. But it is exciting to see him staying in it. Scored a lot of points in the first round. Even ESPN dot com this morning, the main picture on the college football page is Will Stein.

00:29:37
Speaker 2: Uh.

00:29:37
Speaker 3: Someone wrote a story. It's about more than Stein, but it's all these coaches that have taken other jobs and are finishing the playoffs. And he's a big part of it. Obviously, going from Oregon to an SEC school his first getting gig. But he is the header image on ESPN dot com kind of talking about how he's going through it, and it's got a lot of quotes from him about how he couldn't leave Oregon, but you know, it's keeping him busy, says a lot of coffee caffeine relying. You know, kind of got to delegate some of your jobs right now. But he and many others are wearing two hats as they finished the playoff here.

00:30:07
Speaker 2: And as long the more Oregon succeeds and scores points, it's gonna make it look more and more like that's a great hire that Kentucky got him to come here in the next season.

00:30:16
Speaker 3: Yeah, it was pretty cool. You know, they're cutting to as the caller said, they're cutting to him on the sideline, even though he's still in the Ducks gear. You know, if we're looking at our head coach being a part of the playoff as the as the sports want and down right now him being in the mix, maybe they win again and keep it going at this point.

00:30:31
Speaker 2: So they played Texas Tech correct on New Year's Day.

00:30:35
Speaker 3: Yeah, but there's one New Year's Eve game that's.

00:30:37
Speaker 2: Georgia Ohio State and Miami.

00:30:39
Speaker 3: Meis Ohio State Miami. Then you get Georgia Ole Miss and Alabama Indiana and Oregon Texas Tech on on what is.

00:30:45
Speaker 2: It, Thursday? Yeah, Thursday, Yeah, Tuesday. So I suspect a lot of Kentucky fans are gonna still be watching and following Oregon because that's our guy, you know we I'm kind of like you. I wish he was here, but I sure do want him to succeed and win. They kind of put him in the spotlight a little bit more.

00:31:00
Speaker 3: Can help recruiting, and just for his happiness. Truth, I want him to be happy riding that momentum as he moves to accident. I just wish maybe he could throw on like a little pin or maybe a little UK emblem on his hat. I mean we already know it's him, but just a little something extra on the sideline when they're showing him during the TV broadcast, a little tip of the cap to the Cats would be nice to.

00:31:18
Speaker 2: At Roy's other point, and his other question was about the UK point guard. You know, as we said, Jalen Low did not play against Bellerman, so Aberdeen got to start and he hit four three pointers and nobody even realized it because Cam Williams is throwing him from all over the place. Williams hits eight, Aberdeen did hit four to three pointers, and Jasper did have seven assists in just one turnover. Those two guys combined filled the point guard spot pretty well, I thought, at least in that game.

00:31:43
Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure, in that game they passed the test. I still I need to see more of doing it against a better opponent. That's where having all these Squad four games, it's just so hard to learn. It's fun, it's fun watching Cam Williams go off, Asper hitting step back threes and then playing well, but you just can't really get a great anything where they're playing these teams. They're ain't Quad three games, they're Quad four games. Because Tuck hadn't played a quad three yet it's either been a marquee game or the bottom of the barrel. But at least in the opportunity, they showed they can do it, and that's a step forward out. I worry long term about Lowe's back up. Doesn't look like Pope's gonna add anyone. But you know, they passed the test last Tuesday, and that's all you can ask of.

00:32:21
Speaker 2: Them, because that the last time we were lied to a live show, that was a strong possibility they were gonna go out and try to find somebody overseas or in the G League or something to bring up as a backup one guard. I was against it. I just think that's a bad idea to bring somebody in the middle of the season like that.

00:32:34
Speaker 3: And now there's no rules. I mean, it was reported yesterday this Trenton Flowers, Kentucky's not in the mix, but he's considering going back to college. He has played in an NBA game this year and they're talking about him potentially going back to college.

00:32:46
Speaker 2: It just makes how can that be possible?

00:32:48
Speaker 3: Baylor added the guy the draft pick from a couple of years ago. This sport is out of control, but it doesn't look like Kentucky's gonna take advantage of it and try to bring in anyone in at this point.

00:32:58
Speaker 2: So they're seven and four going SEC play. Before the season started, most people probably had them eight and three, maybe nine to two. I had one loss, yet one loss. You had ten and one.

00:33:11
Speaker 4: Yeah.

00:33:12
Speaker 3: I did the video and filled out my prediction the day after the Purdue game. I think it's a little unfair. My emotions were riding high. Georgetown hadn't happened yet. Yeah, so all I knew in that moment was one to zero against the number one team of the country. But yeah, I had Saint John's as my only loss. Shows how good I am. That's one of the wins, well only wins we got, Yes, me and several others. I'd say, a little below expectations at the stage.

00:33:35
Speaker 2: So are do you feel good though about going into conference playing now where they are?

00:33:40
Speaker 3: I won't say I feel good. I mean they were picked second to win the league. If you were to re rank the teams right now, I would not have them second, maybe like fourth or fifth. But what we saw of Quaintance and Low in the second half of that game and then to diabate, just getting back to one hundred percent health. I am a lot more hopeful than I was when I was sitting in Bridgestone Arena in the first half of that Gonzaga game, where I truly wondered if this team could even make the tournament or beat anyone. I have completely flipped on that and found some optimism with the health, but I still worry about things like three point shooting and staying healthy in a backup point guard.

00:34:16
Speaker 2: If Cam Williams can shoot like that, that definitely helps him offensively.

00:34:20
Speaker 3: Definitely helps I mean, you gotta add shooting Chandler. He was great start of the year. He was shooting number fifty through like six seven games, and he's even like quiet since North Carolina. I think he's twenty percent lost his confidence. He'll have a wide open shot and pump fake and step into a contested one, or turn down open shot to drive into traffic and throw something up. Williams is turning a corner. But we got to get back to the confident Chandler that started the season because he'll be a big part of whatever they're gonna do. They'll they'll need him and in some form of a role, especially as a shooter.

00:34:51
Speaker 2: Chandler or Noah. One of those two guys needs to get back on track, because I don't think we can count on Aberdeen hitting four three pointers a game.

00:34:58
Speaker 3: And I just think nothing against Noa Williams channel. I just think these guys have a little bit of a higher ceiling when everything else they can do. Yeah, but I mean if Noah wants to get hot and you got to keep making threes, they'll find some minutes for him.

00:35:08
Speaker 2: You got Ryan and Drew. We are Lexon Catholic for the Holiday Classic. We got McCracken County and Woodford County coming up in the first game today. We'll talk more about that. 00:36:32
Speaker 3: Well, of course I can do this. Happy birthday, Rory, Happy third birthday, and thanks for listening. To KSR and texting in to me and Ryan today. I hope you have the best third birthday of all time.

00:36:43
Speaker 2: So do you think Rory actually texted in at three years old? Or do you think maybe Dad had to help her a little bit?

00:36:48
Speaker 3: Probably not.

00:36:49
Speaker 4: Bet, it doesn't matter.

00:36:49
Speaker 3: She's busy celebrating her birthday. She doesn't need to be wasting her time texting us. She needs to be celebrating being three. You know, at great age you remember being three?

00:36:57
Speaker 2: Oh, of course not. But I'm sure we had a good time.

00:37:02
Speaker 3: Uh.

00:37:03
Speaker 2: You know, she'll get a lot of good ease for a birthday, but uh, we have some good ease for Christmas.

00:37:07
Speaker 3: Yeah.

00:37:08
Speaker 2: Did you see what Pat Kelsey's family gave him for Christmas? Was this?

00:37:12
Speaker 3: The h the license plate cover? A little prank there.

00:37:15
Speaker 2: His daughter not only gave him a UK license plate cover, she put it on his truck. That's a good so he was driving around with it before I think he found out what was going on.

00:37:26
Speaker 3: I don't like. I don't like when the Louisville you know, does something cool that I that I like. It's a nice sprink by his daughter. I have to commend uh Kelsey daughter for what she pulled on her old dad, and then he.

00:37:36
Speaker 2: Just chucked it in the space and threw it into.

00:37:40
Speaker 3: By the way. I hope he went and found that and picked that up out of the dirt and got it. And it's proper uh, proper trash.

00:37:45
Speaker 2: Ben Well, I don't know his daughter, but I like her already. That's a that's a pretty good prank to put that on his truck without him even knowing it, and then he ripped it off.

00:37:52
Speaker 3: Now, Oh sorry, I was gonna add more to the Christmas gift.

00:37:54
Speaker 2: Second, go ahead.

00:37:55
Speaker 3: Well, I meant to bring this up on Cover zero, but we didn't get to it, so I don't. I'm gonna use my cover zero research. Now I have all the gifts that the quarterbacks gave their offensive line.

00:38:06
Speaker 2: Oh that's kind of a good idea.

00:38:07
Speaker 3: Did you see a lot of these?

00:38:08
Speaker 2: No, I didn't see.

00:38:09
Speaker 3: I won't read over all of them one by one. But there were some people that went a little cheap, some that went a little over the top. Aaron Rodgers got his offensive line off road vehicles valued at twenty thousand dollars.

00:38:22
Speaker 2: My goodness, would you be.

00:38:24
Speaker 3: Pleased if you just showed up to practice one day and your quarterback had a twenty thousand dollars can m Maverick X three off road just waiting for you.

00:38:32
Speaker 2: For sure. I've been driving around the Masterson Station neighborhood, do a little off roading out there, of course, So you approve that one. I approved that.

00:38:38
Speaker 3: How about Pat Mahomes, he's hurt right now, down in the dumps. Teams out of the playoffs, chiefs. I mean, they're moving to Kansas. Everything's changing around him. But it didn't stop the Christmas spirit. He got his line, his offensive line, watches valued at twenty four thousand each, meta aiglasses, golf simulator, monitors, and elect bike, and these fancy expensive suitcases, probably forty thousand dollars worth of stuff for each member of his offensive line.

00:39:06
Speaker 2: I thought you're gonna stop at watches. He gave them all watches with kind of a standard I think quarterbacks give their line. He gave him everything else.

00:39:12
Speaker 3: Jared Goff his offensive line, brand new golf carts, got these monitors on him, got the seat in the back. It's top line state of the golf cart. I didn't have a price on it, but you can only imagine how expensive, very expensive. All right, then, Dak Prescott got his offensive line made a glasses value to five hundred dollars.

00:39:30
Speaker 2: Well, that's kind of cheap compared to everybody else.

00:39:33
Speaker 3: So would you be disappointed if you're in Dallas and all you get is meda glasses and you're looking around the league and you're getting golf carts twenty five thousand dollars watches, off road Vehicles's Dak going a little cheap down there in Dallas. That hipped one of the highest contracts in league history.

00:39:49
Speaker 2: Yes, that's why I kept waiting for what else did he add to that list? If that was it? When everybody else was giving him these we said the Patrick Mahomes give up to like forty thousand dollars worth of gifts, and Dak Prescott gives the five hundred dollars meta.

00:40:00
Speaker 3: Even Josh Allen, he's got a baby on the way, newly married, he's got a lot going on, busy missing wide open receivers in the end zone to win games. He got everyone on his line a quarter of a cow and a brand new grill to cook on.

00:40:15
Speaker 2: Well, that's something kind of different, probably not really expensive, but something different.

00:40:19
Speaker 3: Of all those I listed, I won't go through anymore. There's some other ones like Joe Burrow got dinosaur fossils for his line. Did you see that one? Would you appreciate a dinosaur fossil? No?

00:40:29
Speaker 2: Why would I want a dinosaur fossil unless it's worth millions of dollars?

00:40:32
Speaker 3: So you're in. I'm gonna guess you would pick the Pat Mahomes absolutely everything, not the Dak Prescott.

00:40:38
Speaker 2: Well even who is they gave the customized golf cart.

00:40:42
Speaker 3: Oh that was Jared Goff in Detroit.

00:40:43
Speaker 2: See that's kind of cool. You know, all these guys are golfers in the offseason and stuff.

00:40:48
Speaker 3: Even my guy cam Ward, a rookie for one of the worst teams in the history of football. Although we're getting better down there and we're turning a corner. He got his his offensive line each one thousand dollars airline voucher go go travel as far as.

00:41:01
Speaker 2: Take a trap after the season.

00:41:03
Speaker 3: I don't know if it was committed to a lot, I could go a long way on Frontier Spirit true. Uh, Louis Vaton wallet and a Nintendo Switch. So there you go. That's me, uh doing cover zero here on KSR.

00:41:13
Speaker 2: Because we didn't get to us that's a young quarterback knowing what the younger guys want the Nintendo switch.

00:41:17
Speaker 3: Dak's got to figure it out though.

00:41:19
