<v Speaker 1>Hey, everybody, welcome to Game Best Mornings with Me Jeff Grubb,
<v Speaker 1>your host from GiantBomb dot com. Thank you for tuning in.
<v Speaker 1>In this episode, we're gonna be talking about the Holy
<v Speaker 1>Spirit of Nintendo and what he would think about the
<v Speaker 1>switch to and what's this a terrible sonic game? No,
<v Speaker 1>couldn't be. It's gonna be a good one because we
<v Speaker 1>have Jana Chowa on the show. Jan how are you doing?
<v Speaker 2>I am doing pretty okay, grub not gonna lie. Still
<v Speaker 2>a little tie.
<v Speaker 1>Ti, Yeah, yeah, I like, I don't want to keep
<v Speaker 1>using our marathon as an excuse. It's probably something else
<v Speaker 1>at this point. You know, I did. I get home
<v Speaker 1>and I got a little I got a little sick,
<v Speaker 1>so I got a little bit of a cold, and
<v Speaker 1>I bet that's still lingering back there a little bit,
<v Speaker 1>and that's what's doing me in. But yeah, you know what,
<v Speaker 1>I'm kind of mostly trying to take it easy this
<v Speaker 1>week and do our fun stuff and not getting the

<v Speaker 2>or not.
<v Speaker 1>You would think it's a fun dilemma to not know
<v Speaker 1>a week out. I uh, one day, I'm gonna ask
<v Speaker 1>you the story about that. That's that's fun. Yeah yeah. Hey.
<v Speaker 2>Also I was gonna say the excuse is theater people,
<v Speaker 2>but sure with theater people involve, it involves a lot
<v Speaker 2>of rehearsal time, so planning, So maybe it's not.
<v Speaker 1>An excuse that.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, they're so flighty about whether or not it's going
<v Speaker 2>to happen or not because it seems like a lot
<v Speaker 2>of money either way.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean, is it like a real wedding, like
<v Speaker 1>a real it's not? Are they going to city Hall break?
<v Speaker 1>You don't know? You don't know, Okay, okay, okay, all right,

<v Speaker 1>chapters and timestamps on YouTube. Hello YouTube. All right, we're
<v Speaker 1>presented by dekou Deals and it's time to get into
<v Speaker 1>the headlines. I'll starting with sorry, Nintendo says, no, it's perfect.
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo says they will start acquiring new development companies. This
<v Speaker 1>comes from Jonas Mackie at Game Reactor. For a while,
<v Speaker 1>it felt like there was There were spectacular acquisitions every month,
<v Speaker 1>mainly from Embracer and Microsoft, but in recent years things
<v Speaker 1>have calmed down considerably on that front. Now, however, another
<v Speaker 1>company seems keen to grow a little, namely Nintendo. And
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo's latest financial report, on page fifty four, CEO Shuntaro
<v Speaker 1>for Akawa states that they are planning initiatives such as
<v Speaker 1>acquiring development companies to make them subsidiaries and augmenting our
<v Speaker 1>development facilities and the construction of a corporate headquarters development
<v Speaker 1>center building number two. This leaves a little room for
<v Speaker 1>interpretation as to what they mean. I think that's fair.
<v Speaker 1>The reason they mentioned this jan is Nintendo has a
<v Speaker 1>lot of money. They have like a lot of like
<v Speaker 1>just straight up cash in the bank, and when they
<v Speaker 1>go to do these financial reportings to their investors and
<v Speaker 1>they're like, here's how we're doing. Here's like the future outlook.
<v Speaker 1>You know, we thought we're going to sell fifteen million
<v Speaker 1>switch toes. Now it's nineteen million switch tos. Things are
<v Speaker 1>going really well. They also have to say what they're
<v Speaker 1>going to do with this huge war chest of cash,
<v Speaker 1>and Nintendo's usually like, we're saving that in case things
<v Speaker 1>go sideways. But investors don't necessarily like to hear that.
<v Speaker 1>They want to hear use that money to make me
<v Speaker 1>more money. And so I think this is Yeah, I
<v Speaker 1>bet that Nintendo is going to make more acquisitions similar
<v Speaker 1>to the ones they've done previously, which is like Next
<v Speaker 1>Level Games. There's that studio Shiver, I think it was
<v Speaker 1>called that, like helped out on a couple other games,
<v Speaker 1>and then Nintendo Pitchers was previously a different like a
<v Speaker 1>three D animation studio, and now they're under Nintendo's wings.
<v Speaker 1>Then to to acquire them, it'll be things along those lines.
<v Speaker 1>Don't expect anything like Activision, right, that's this is not
<v Speaker 1>Microsoft acquiring Activision. Even though Nintendo does have a lot
<v Speaker 1>of money, they're gonna do small things, and they even
<v Speaker 1>said it's going to like all these deals will have
<v Speaker 1>to like fit the Nintendo DNA and things like that.
<v Speaker 1>You're not expecting them to come in here and like
<v Speaker 1>really just start throwing that cash around like crazy, right.
<v Speaker 2>No, not at all, Grub. I feel like if it
<v Speaker 2>wouldn't make sense for Nintendo to start acquiring any big studios,
<v Speaker 2>any like supplemental like support studios, one hundred percent makes
<v Speaker 2>sense for them. I couldn't even see them picking up
<v Speaker 2>like a a significant indie studio either. I feel like,
<v Speaker 2>if anything, they're fleshing out their support ranks. Hopefully this
<v Speaker 2>means that Nintendo will understand that folks want to play
<v Speaker 2>their older games in an easier way and maybe they
<v Speaker 2>can get some companies to help out with porting older
<v Speaker 2>titles to the switch to or something similar to that. Brub,
<v Speaker 2>forgive my ignorance. They don't own game Freak, do they?
<v Speaker 1>So they do not own game Freak, Game Freak, Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>and is It Creatures are those of the three entities that
<v Speaker 1>own Pokemon Company together they each own a third or
<v Speaker 1>something like that. So they're close business partners that didn't
<v Speaker 1>might have some investment in game Freak honestly that I'm
<v Speaker 1>just not aware of, But no, that's mostly an external company.
<v Speaker 1>You know, they don't even own stuff like Intelligent Systems,
<v Speaker 1>a studio they've worked with on Fire Emblem and a
<v Speaker 1>bunch of other stuff for literally decades. You know, those
<v Speaker 1>studios that are third party companies produce these Nintendo first
<v Speaker 1>party games. But those deals have seemingly worked out well
<v Speaker 1>for everyone involved because they keep doing it. So I
<v Speaker 1>guess they likely wouldn't want to change the status quo
<v Speaker 1>unless something, you know, I think what happened with Next
<v Speaker 1>Level was and I think this was Next Level could
<v Speaker 1>have been another studio, but I'm pretty sure it was
<v Speaker 1>Next Level, where they're like, hey, we just had a
<v Speaker 1>lot of success with Luigi's Mansion three, Like this game
<v Speaker 1>is a platinum seller. It's more than ten million copies
<v Speaker 1>sold at the time, and we want to sell We
<v Speaker 1>want someone to buy us because we think we're worth
<v Speaker 1>a lot. And Nintendo goes, well, well, okay, all right,
<v Speaker 1>all right, we'll buy you then, and so they were
<v Speaker 1>kind of forced into that situation. I think Nintenda would
<v Speaker 1>protect some of these studios that they know they can
<v Speaker 1>rely on by purchasing them if it came to that,
<v Speaker 1>and then I think they are going to make just
<v Speaker 1>small strategic purchases here and there. But they make it
<v Speaker 1>clear that their overall strategy is about continuing to support
<v Speaker 1>their core business model, which I think no one listening
<v Speaker 1>to this is going to be too surprised by. But
<v Speaker 1>they describe their core business model as dedicated video game
<v Speaker 1>platforms like the console. And they yes, they have an
<v Speaker 1>image here of the things orbiting that that's in the center,
<v Speaker 1>and then on the orbit is movie. On the orbit
<v Speaker 1>is movies and videos. Mobile apps. They did launch a
<v Speaker 1>new mobile app. We'll talk about that in a little bit.
<v Speaker 1>Character merchandise, and real world experiences being the theme parks
<v Speaker 1>and the museums, so all these things sort of support
<v Speaker 1>the central business. So if they are going to spend
<v Speaker 1>their money, I do expect it to be to the
<v Speaker 1>ends of mostly feeding into that core business of making
<v Speaker 1>consoles and making console video games. So I don't think
<v Speaker 1>this is like them saying we have all this money
<v Speaker 1>and we're going to try something wildly different. It's not
<v Speaker 1>that doesn't seem to be on the table.
<v Speaker 2>I could actually see them expanding in a significant way
<v Speaker 2>grub in if if the story is also meant to
<v Speaker 2>include perhaps support studios in terms of other media, because
<v Speaker 2>Miamoto has made like a significant jump and all of
<v Speaker 2>them in a Nintendo want to make that ploy to
<v Speaker 2>get into Hollywood and a more significant way. I could
<v Speaker 2>see them getting into animation, perhaps like another supplemental supper
<v Speaker 2>studio for film perhaps. And I think it was during
<v Speaker 2>the BombCast we read the story about them wanting to
<v Speaker 2>expand with like the Tears of the Kingdom vinyl set.
<v Speaker 2>Maybe they want to get into music to maybe Mario's
<v Speaker 2>going to drop a hot ep for the Holos.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it definitely seems like they are reconsidering all of
<v Speaker 1>their old positions on all this stuff. Right, They reconsidered
<v Speaker 1>their relationship with Hollywood and movies and that has only
<v Speaker 1>paid off. And the way that they felt comfortable doing
<v Speaker 1>that was getting deeply involved, in fact, letting me Amoto
<v Speaker 1>kind of take it under his wing and saying it
<v Speaker 1>meets his level of quality, his bar. And they're doing
<v Speaker 1>the same thing for the theme parks, and I imagine
<v Speaker 1>that like that is that's gonna be stuff that they
<v Speaker 1>feel like they are internalizing and learning, and if it's
<v Speaker 1>important to supporting that core business, they will only grow
<v Speaker 1>in that and take on more of it on their
<v Speaker 1>own and maybe even work even more if they work
<v Speaker 1>more with partners, they will probably match that with their
<v Speaker 1>own internal work as well. I mean overall, though the
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo way of doing things is working for Nintendo. I
<v Speaker 1>would probably continue to describe them as a unicorn though
<v Speaker 1>right where it's like no other company could sort of
<v Speaker 1>replicate this. This is not a model that everyone else
<v Speaker 1>should be like, Oh, we'll just do it like Nintendo does.
<v Speaker 2>Right, No, one hundred percent nacru because unicorn is a
<v Speaker 2>perfect way to describe them, because Xbox PlayStation could not
<v Speaker 2>support opening up an additional land or part.
<v Speaker 1>Of a theme park, right yeah, probably not.
<v Speaker 2>There is the brand recognition with some ip that are
<v Speaker 2>related to those the big two. There, But when Nintendo.
<v Speaker 1>Credos having a night at Universal Studios, right, Creatos has
<v Speaker 1>like a show or something like that.
<v Speaker 2>But you're right, yeah, maybe like a ratchet and Clank
<v Speaker 2>sponge esque forty ride.
<v Speaker 1>Could be cool, sounds fun, It could be fun.
<v Speaker 2>Astrobot. Just give Astrobot to the minionize Astrobot we all, yes,
<v Speaker 2>just let's just welcome it already. But Nintendo is in
<v Speaker 2>that special case where not only are they now expanding
<v Speaker 2>into movies in a significant significant way video games they've
<v Speaker 2>been able to do their own thing for so long now,
<v Speaker 2>but also with the real world experiences that are in
<v Speaker 2>this graphic that you talked about, Grub, I could easily
<v Speaker 2>see them opening up several more locations for a Nintendo museum,
<v Speaker 2>like Nintendo stores. There's we have one in New York,
<v Speaker 2>we have one in San Francisco. Now I could uh
<v Speaker 2>is there one in Washington? Like where there?
<v Speaker 1>I don't think so. So you know, there's just the
<v Speaker 1>one in New York, in the one in uh in
<v Speaker 1>in San Francisco.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I could easily see them like opening up more
<v Speaker 2>and more locations. There's the expansion of the theme parks
<v Speaker 2>in Florida and Los Angeles. It just seems like they
<v Speaker 2>aren't a steady, slow, weird climb towards whatever they are approaching.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's I think a big part of it for
<v Speaker 1>me when I look at like, Okay, well why is
<v Speaker 1>it working for Nintendo? And they don't seem to panic,
<v Speaker 1>and they do seem to like just kind of take
<v Speaker 1>a careful step.
<v Speaker 2>Forward because they're not online grub.
<v Speaker 1>They are not online. They're very much not online, right,
<v Speaker 1>and they don't I don't think they treat the latest
<v Speaker 1>bit of information as like a truism that that excludes
<v Speaker 1>all other possible explanations of what could happen next. And
<v Speaker 1>I think like when Sony took the PlayStation headquarters and
<v Speaker 1>moved it from Japan to Los Angeles to America, that
<v Speaker 1>was this is years and years and years ago. Now
<v Speaker 1>it was like, oh, this is signifying that this company
<v Speaker 1>believes that they need their games to be globally appealing
<v Speaker 1>and that does start in the United States. And that
<v Speaker 1>has clearly worked to a certain extent, but it came
<v Speaker 1>at a cost that the PlayStation is less less relevant
<v Speaker 1>in Japan, and Japan's a smaller market overall, but it's
<v Speaker 1>not a small market. And in the meantime, Nintendo has
<v Speaker 1>only grown in Japan and gain more not just more
<v Speaker 1>market share, but created more gamers and more people who
<v Speaker 1>are interested in their stuff, and not just by going
<v Speaker 1>back to the well with Mario. It's turning Pickman into
<v Speaker 1>a massive success in Japan, crossing an across the school
<v Speaker 1>success bigger than ever, and Splatoon a cultural phenomenon in Japan,
<v Speaker 1>and so it's like, Okay, they are building on their
<v Speaker 1>strengths and building out from there instead of like abandoning
<v Speaker 1>their post to go to the next strength. It works.
<v Speaker 1>It that's this is not that Sony's making a lot
<v Speaker 1>of money, but I just think they feel like they
<v Speaker 1>didn't necessarily have to leave one to do the next thing,
<v Speaker 1>but they did. And here we are.
<v Speaker 2>And I don't want people to think that we are
<v Speaker 2>just constantly glazing Nintendo. There are plenty of decisions that
<v Speaker 2>are are boneheaded.
<v Speaker 1>Decisions, weirdest fucking company alive.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, absolutely, But if anyone's growth I am more interested in,
<v Speaker 2>it is definitely Nintendo. Because Nintendo, I guess, continues to
<v Speaker 2>operate under whatever core tenants they had set out a
<v Speaker 2>couple of years ago, versus like we mentioned, Grubb, PlayStation
<v Speaker 2>Xbox that are constantly stepping on rakes with like these
<v Speaker 2>big decisions, Like it actually feels like a conflict for
<v Speaker 2>Nintendo that they will potentially have to raise the price
<v Speaker 2>of the switch to It felt like a big conflict
<v Speaker 2>around launch versus Xbox and PlayStation where it's like, now,
<v Speaker 2>drive that shit up Doug.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, they don't hesitate. They kind of just tell people
<v Speaker 1>how it is. And that includes the people who buy
<v Speaker 1>their games. So now this is just gonna cost more
<v Speaker 1>and deal with it, and so well why and it's
<v Speaker 1>like because there's more Mario card and said, no, there isn't.
<v Speaker 1>But all right, we get it. Uh, all right, keep
<v Speaker 1>going here. GGA six dev says it fired workers for
<v Speaker 1>leaking secrets, not for trying to unionize. Okay, we'll see.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Eddie McCoo at game Spot. Rockstar Games
<v Speaker 1>has pushed back against the claims that a group of
<v Speaker 1>recently laid off developers were removed for trying to unionize. Instead,
<v Speaker 1>these people were leaking company secrets, Rockstar said. A spokesperson
<v Speaker 1>for Rockstar told Bloomberg that the staffers were distributing and
<v Speaker 1>discussing confidential information in a public form, violated Rockstars policies.
<v Speaker 1>The company said this was in no way related to
<v Speaker 1>people's right to join a union or engage in union activities.
<v Speaker 1>Between thirty and forty people were fired from Rockstar's offices
<v Speaker 1>in Canada and the UK related to what the developers
<v Speaker 1>labeled as gross misconduct. A spokesperson for IWUGB or sorry IWGB,
<v Speaker 1>which is the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain, said
<v Speaker 1>the affected staffers were involved in unionizing efforts and said
<v Speaker 1>Rockstar is guilty of one of the most blatant and
<v Speaker 1>ruthless acts of union busting and the history of the
<v Speaker 1>games industry. That boy, I don't know if that passes
<v Speaker 1>the sniff test for me. Jan Thirty to forty people
<v Speaker 1>were leaking information across the UK and Canada and you
<v Speaker 1>fired all of them. But what are you pressing charges?
<v Speaker 1>Are you going to sue them for breach of contract?
<v Speaker 1>As certainly they assigned NDAs. Is that happening next? Because
<v Speaker 1>you haven't said anything about that, so you're I mean, listen,
<v Speaker 1>firing them is a punishment for sure? Is that enough
<v Speaker 1>of a punishment? This is a mass conspiracy to leak
<v Speaker 1>your game information. Thirty to forty people were doing this,
<v Speaker 1>they were were they talking to each other? That is? Yes?
<v Speaker 2>Was this a grub? I mean, you deal with leaks,
<v Speaker 2>you're the leakman, patching up, listening and stuff. I'm under
<v Speaker 2>the assumption that those leaks come from a singular if
<v Speaker 2>not maybe two people, not thirty to forty people trying
<v Speaker 2>to do a coordinated strike against Yeah, we develop where
<v Speaker 2>they work at.
<v Speaker 1>When you do talk to like sixteen sixteen people for
<v Speaker 1>the story, it's a lot of times it's current and
<v Speaker 1>former development. It's a mix. It's so you get a
<v Speaker 1>lot of former developers who could sort of point you
<v Speaker 1>in the right direction. Uh. In most cases it is
<v Speaker 1>one or two people, and they don't talk to each
<v Speaker 1>other because that's how you get in trouble and get fired.
<v Speaker 1>So I suppose if they were all talking to each other,
<v Speaker 1>it explains why they got fired. But it is also
<v Speaker 1>a bit strange for these companies to just straight up
<v Speaker 1>fire one fire someone for leaks, because it's you have
<v Speaker 1>to prove it otherwise you could get sued. So and
<v Speaker 1>then they come out and state publicly that they did this.
<v Speaker 1>Now you have to you're gonna have to, Like, these
<v Speaker 1>people could sue them if they didn't do this right
<v Speaker 1>or or or if one of them didn't do it,
<v Speaker 1>they could sue for defamation and say that now this
<v Speaker 1>company is slandering me and hurting my prospects to get
<v Speaker 1>another job because all these companies won't hire me because
<v Speaker 1>they think I'll leak their information. So, yeah, I don't
<v Speaker 1>know this was This is a very strange one, But
<v Speaker 1>I don't know. I also think that like Rockstar probably
<v Speaker 1>wouldn't go out there and say this unless they had
<v Speaker 1>some sort of evidence to back it up. But I
<v Speaker 1>don't know, unless they were just straight up union busting
<v Speaker 1>and they're trying to dangle the keys in front of us,
<v Speaker 1>which seems possible. I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, Greb, like you said, this doesn't pass the sniff test.
<v Speaker 2>I think this is way too many people to lump
<v Speaker 2>into one group of trying to hurt rock Star. And
<v Speaker 2>as they mentioned gross misconduct, there's probably a lot more
<v Speaker 2>misconduct happening at Rockstar and all these other big develop
<v Speaker 2>developers that aren't that they aren't seeing the light that
<v Speaker 2>probably they should get let go. But because these people
<v Speaker 2>perhaps were seeking to unionize, they instead got let go
<v Speaker 2>and they're just being slapped with this label of like
<v Speaker 2>leakers at leaves a very poor, poor taste in my mouth,
<v Speaker 2>and I already have complicated feelings around GTA and this
<v Speaker 2>definitely is not helping.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think that's that's right. Where it's like, uh,
<v Speaker 1>it just feels a bit like if they were leaking stuff,
<v Speaker 1>isn't there a quiet quieter way to handle this, uh,
<v Speaker 1>like internal discipline, ask them to resign so that they
<v Speaker 1>hey resign so that we don't sue you for breach
<v Speaker 1>of contract. I just the order of operations here of
<v Speaker 1>we're going to fire dozens of people and then come
<v Speaker 1>up with an explanation later feels very bizarre because it's
<v Speaker 1>like this would only draw attention to this, and now
<v Speaker 1>it's like, Okay, so wait, are there a bunch of
<v Speaker 1>leaks out there that we're missing? Who are they talking to?
<v Speaker 1>Is it a possibility here that they're like, you leak
<v Speaker 1>this to the union organizing groups? You were talking about
<v Speaker 1>internal business to the unions. I don't know, they're definitely
<v Speaker 1>they definitely seem like they're trying to talk around something here.
<v Speaker 2>Uh.
<v Speaker 1>If they if this is true, though, I would I
<v Speaker 1>would ask them to prove it.
<v Speaker 2>I prove it in some way, right grub because I
<v Speaker 2>feel like the in verse of this has to be
<v Speaker 2>there has to be a breadcrumb trail then, right, if
<v Speaker 2>they have enough proof to let go of these thirty
<v Speaker 2>to forty people, that means these thirty to forty people
<v Speaker 2>were talking to someone, some people, some groups, some outlets.
<v Speaker 2>So show me the receipts Rockstar, and if it turns
<v Speaker 2>out that they were just talking to a union in leaking,
<v Speaker 2>I don't feel like leaking work culture and possible work
<v Speaker 2>abuse is the same as leaking details about GTA six.
<v Speaker 1>There was a tweet from or escape from Jason Schreyer
<v Speaker 1>last night that I missed here it is Rockstar statement
<v Speaker 1>is quite vague, but they are referring to people talking
<v Speaker 1>about work in a union discord, not big leaks about
<v Speaker 1>GTA six. This will likely come come down to a
<v Speaker 1>legal battle, and Rockstar's argument maybe that the workers involved
<v Speaker 1>were sharing confidential work information in that chat. So it's like, hey,
<v Speaker 1>you technically violated in DA by being in that chat
<v Speaker 1>and talking about stuff in a way that we said
<v Speaker 1>you could not no matter what, even if you are
<v Speaker 1>trying to unionize. And I think these people would be like,
<v Speaker 1>you know, we are going to be allowed to talk
<v Speaker 1>about our work with our union and that would still
<v Speaker 1>be considered protected. We didn't leak this stuff publicly. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>thirty to forty people now are going to probably have
<v Speaker 1>to go sue Rockstar and suss this all out, So
<v Speaker 1>good luck with that. I if I'm one of these companies,
<v Speaker 1>I can't imagine being like more, I guess more afraid
<v Speaker 1>of a union. Then maybe that speaks to the strength
<v Speaker 1>of unions, that you are more afraid of your employees
<v Speaker 1>unionizing than against the backlash that you might get for
<v Speaker 1>doing this. And they're like, well, the backlash doesn't have
<v Speaker 1>any real financial consequences. People are going to buy GTA
<v Speaker 1>six anyhow, And it's like, oh, that's that's a bummer.
<v Speaker 1>That should be why these people should be able to unionize,
<v Speaker 1>so they could stand up to a company like this.
<v Speaker 1>Hearing Rockstar might be kind of shitty, still not surprising, Yeah, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>all right, Uh you know what, Jan, let's take that break.
<v Speaker 1>Let's take a break. We are gonna be back with
<v Speaker 1>more headlines after this. If you want to skip out
<v Speaker 1>on this, there's a premium version of the video show
<v Speaker 1>and the audio show doesn't have ads in it. But
<v Speaker 1>we're listening here now, so let's go to the break.
<v Speaker 1>We'll be right back. Jan. You taught me to overcome
<v Speaker 1>my fear of sharp objects. I want to teach you
<v Speaker 1>how to overcome your fear of saving money. No, I
<v Speaker 1>don't want to.
<v Speaker 2>I will only ever pay the manufactured suggested retail price.
<v Speaker 1>Stop you don't have to live this way because now
<v Speaker 1>there's Deco Deals the double date. That's right, Deco Deals
<v Speaker 1>is the best way to find deals on any major
<v Speaker 1>gaming platform or store.
<v Speaker 2>I don't want no bunk out of date coupon code grub.
<v Speaker 1>It's nothing like that. Deco Deals has both the hottest
<v Speaker 1>and the freshest deals updated constantly. It's also just added
<v Speaker 1>Steam support with a super simple page to find bundles
<v Speaker 1>for Steam code.
<v Speaker 2>Ooh, I just found the Missed and Riven Complete collection
<v Speaker 2>for eight dollars on Humble using Deco deals right now.
<v Speaker 1>I also use Dago Deals to build an ad and
<v Speaker 1>share wish list. You can even use it to keep
<v Speaker 1>track of your collection.
<v Speaker 2>You know what, I think we should all build some
<v Speaker 2>lists and host them on Deco deals dot com slash
<v Speaker 2>giant bomb.
<v Speaker 1>And if listeners go to Dego deals dot com slash
<v Speaker 1>giant bomb, they can vote to make us play a
<v Speaker 1>game on the November twenty first episode of Unprofessional Fridays.
<v Speaker 2>Learn more at Deko deals dot com, slash giant bomb.
<v Speaker 1>The double D all Right game. As mornings, we're back
<v Speaker 1>Janicho at jeff Grub and we have more headlines including
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo has been keeping a record of all your gaming
<v Speaker 1>sends and will now share it with you. This comes
<v Speaker 1>from Kenneth Shepherd at Kotaku. But uh a short version
<v Speaker 1>of the story Jamie is, there's a new app from
<v Speaker 1>Nintendo for your mobile phone. It's the Nintendo Store app.
<v Speaker 1>I think it's just like e Shop stuff. You can
<v Speaker 1>go buy stuff on your phone.
<v Speaker 2>Now.
<v Speaker 1>I didn't look too closely to that at that stuff.
<v Speaker 1>I looked at like this feature, which is you go
<v Speaker 1>sign in on the Nintendo Store app, you click on
<v Speaker 1>your profile. You can now get your gaming history, like
<v Speaker 1>all the way back to the three DS and we
<v Speaker 1>you Oh, and it has more detailed information about like
<v Speaker 1>your gaming sessions than the systems ever gave you. So
<v Speaker 1>you check your play history on a switch, it'll be like, hey,
<v Speaker 1>you've played more than ten hours of this game, or
<v Speaker 1>you played more than twenty hours of this game. This
<v Speaker 1>feature shows every time you turned on any game and
<v Speaker 1>how long you played during that session, and you could
<v Speaker 1>go back and check all of your sessions for each
<v Speaker 1>and every game. I was like, I was like, oh, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>you know what. I felt like. I didn't I didn't
<v Speaker 1>spend fifty hours on Silk song. That's weird. And I'm like,
<v Speaker 1>I went and looked and it's like, oh, yeah, there's
<v Speaker 1>a couple of sessions where I left the system on
<v Speaker 1>for twelve hours. There it is. I'm like, oh, okay, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I typically wasn't playing for twelve hours, So there we go.
<v Speaker 1>And it's like I was able to find that information
<v Speaker 1>really quickly. It's bizarre that after all these years, Nintendo's like, here,
<v Speaker 1>we've had this information. But of course they track this stuff.
<v Speaker 1>All these companies like just loved this these the telemetry
<v Speaker 1>data and love to use that to figure out how
<v Speaker 1>to sell you more video games. It's odd now that
<v Speaker 1>they are finally sharing it with us, though, I.
<v Speaker 2>Is it odd Grub that I'm surprised that they knew
<v Speaker 2>how to do this.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean there's probably always someone at the company
<v Speaker 1>that knows how to do this, and then there's gonna
<v Speaker 1>be those people above them that either doesn't know what
<v Speaker 1>to do with that or how to then relay that
<v Speaker 1>to the end user, or thinks it's not important, like hey,
<v Speaker 1>that's weird nerd shit, don't bother the customer with that.
<v Speaker 1>They're afraid of the Internet, like I am. That's like, Okay, well,
<v Speaker 1>they just don't know that most people are way more
<v Speaker 1>online than Nintendo is. Yeah, I mean Nintendo's a traditional
<v Speaker 1>Japanese company and that does mean like they were using
<v Speaker 1>fax machines a lot longer than a lot of other
<v Speaker 1>companies you might think of and things like that. But
<v Speaker 1>there are also some tech savvy people in there that
<v Speaker 1>are like, hey, we need this data. So if I'm building,
<v Speaker 1>if I'm gonna do all the work to build all
<v Speaker 1>this shit, I'm also gonna build the tools that we
<v Speaker 1>need to figure stuff out because I'm just a professional,
<v Speaker 1>and well end up doing that. It's it's strange though
<v Speaker 1>again that it's just in this one app on mobile
<v Speaker 1>phones off to the side, kind of buried under some menus,
<v Speaker 1>and it's like way more data than you would think.
<v Speaker 1>I think it's more than you get from anyone else. Now.
<v Speaker 1>I don't think like Steam tells you like how you like,
<v Speaker 1>how many sessions you had in each game and stuff
<v Speaker 1>like that.
<v Speaker 2>It's bizarre. I'm uh, I don't want to look at
<v Speaker 2>the data grub. I don't want to know how much
<v Speaker 2>time I've spent in various games like Pokemon, And yeah, I.
<v Speaker 1>Was gonna ask it would be a Pokemon. That would
<v Speaker 1>be the scariest one to know about.
<v Speaker 2>Maybe Hades. Honestly, Hades are dead cells.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, dead Cells probably just gonna be up there for me.
<v Speaker 1>You're gonna be up there.
<v Speaker 2>I don't want to know the amount of times I
<v Speaker 2>possibly have saved scummed or my switch account has been
<v Speaker 2>used to save scum in Animal Crossing.
<v Speaker 1>So look I did.
<v Speaker 2>Ah.
<v Speaker 1>Let's see, here's ten hours worth of sessions of Into
<v Speaker 1>the Breach and that's after I played that game for
<v Speaker 1>like many more hours than that on PC. Dead Cells Okay,
<v Speaker 1>Dead Cells over one hundred hours, fifty nine days played.
<v Speaker 1>We played for fifty nine separate days. Yep, there's a
<v Speaker 1>session that's four hours. Yeah, man, I played this game
<v Speaker 1>a lot. Man, that's a good game.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I like this stuff. I think it's cool, Like at
<v Speaker 1>the end of the year when all these different companies,
<v Speaker 1>like we knew Nintendo was tracking this stuff, right because
<v Speaker 1>they have like the year end breakdown of your gaming
<v Speaker 1>habits that they send down in the fun chart format
<v Speaker 1>of the format. And I like that stuff, but I
<v Speaker 1>kind of want to have more control over it. So
<v Speaker 1>this is this is cool. I'm gonna like use this
<v Speaker 1>and like, go see if I could find a game
<v Speaker 1>that I started and didn't finish, or something I could
<v Speaker 1>pick up. I'm trying to see like the oldest stuff
<v Speaker 1>I have on here. It is so yeah, this goes
<v Speaker 1>back to twenty eleven for me. Metroid Samus returns. Oh boy,
<v Speaker 1>it's the oldest thing I see on here. So that's
<v Speaker 1>almost fifteen years ago. Oh my god, that's almost fifteen
<v Speaker 1>years ago. Okay, let's see here, passage of time. Grub No,
<v Speaker 1>I know, I can't. It gets bad real fast, real fast.
<v Speaker 1>Pokemon Legends Z A Mega Dimension DLC is launching in December.
<v Speaker 1>This is from my Nintendo News. Today, the Pokemon Company
<v Speaker 1>International announced that the Pokemon Legends ZA Mega Dimension DLC
<v Speaker 1>will launch on December tenth, twenty twenty five, for Switch
<v Speaker 1>to and Switch. The Pokemon Company also revealed that a
<v Speaker 1>new side mission featuring mythical Pokemon dance Dancey Yancey Dancey
<v Speaker 1>is now available in Pokemon Legends z A Mega Dimensions
<v Speaker 1>introduces hyper Space Illumios, a mysterious alternate version of Lumios
<v Speaker 1>City shaped by spatial distortions guided by Donut chef Ansha
<v Speaker 1>and mythical Pokemon Hoopa. Trainers will explore the new dimension
<v Speaker 1>where powerful Pokemon await, including the debated the debut of
<v Speaker 1>Mega chemech Cho Checho.
<v Speaker 2>I know how to say these, but when you say them,
<v Speaker 2>U mispronounced the grub. I agree it also, yeah yeahchchchi oh.
<v Speaker 1>Chim echo duh and Mega Beck's caliber.
<v Speaker 2>That's got to be right, that's actually back shots oker.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, there we go. Of course, trainers can now claim
<v Speaker 1>a Dance or Dance Site Stone through the Mystery Gift
<v Speaker 1>feature in Pokemon Legend ZA. This unlocks a new side mission,
<v Speaker 1>shine Bright like a Gemstone, where traders can encounter and
<v Speaker 1>catch mythical Pokemon Dancy. Completing the missions allows trainers to
<v Speaker 1>mego evolve Dancy into Mega Dancy and experience its radiant
<v Speaker 1>power in battle. Jane, you've been enjoying the ZA. Is
<v Speaker 1>there a chance that you are down for the DLC
<v Speaker 1>as well? Yeah? I I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>I I keep having this feeling that I'm waiting for
<v Speaker 2>the shoot to drop and for me to like want
<v Speaker 2>to throw this game into the bin, But I have
<v Speaker 2>continued to enjoy my time. I still haven't finished it,
<v Speaker 2>just because there's a bunch of other miscellaneous things happening around.
<v Speaker 2>But I have been enjoying taking it at the pay
<v Speaker 2>it is and talking with other friends that are also
<v Speaker 2>into Pokemon. It's interesting to see the difference of opinions
<v Speaker 2>because I personally enjoy that it is just set in
<v Speaker 2>one city. I like that contained environment. I'm cool just
<v Speaker 2>getting to know the terrain of Lumio City and all
<v Speaker 2>the random miscellaneous scaffolding that the French people or the
<v Speaker 2>French Pokemon people are setting around. Because when I think
<v Speaker 2>about a grub in the mainline Pokemon games, those routes
<v Speaker 2>don't quite matter, right, the path to get from one
<v Speaker 2>city to another city. It's just the road, and most
<v Speaker 2>of the time they don't even really matter other than
<v Speaker 2>like the Pokemon that will spawn there.
<v Speaker 1>Sure, and I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>I hope that game freak Nintendo continue to take lessons
<v Speaker 2>and innovate in the Pokemon legends off skew of the
<v Speaker 2>poet COmON games, because the most exciting stuff is happening here.
<v Speaker 1>I've yet to check out.
<v Speaker 2>The like, uh, the Pokemon Online Pokemon battling in this,
<v Speaker 2>I got a round up Sean and Mike, perhaps Chuck
<v Speaker 2>if he is down as well, or we'll just squat
<v Speaker 2>up against the internet.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that'd be It could be a fun like Thursday
<v Speaker 1>Night Throwdown or something like that. We can figure something
<v Speaker 1>out there. Uh yeah, it sounds like this DLC is
<v Speaker 1>going to be for people who really like battling. You know,
<v Speaker 1>I'm trying to suss it out. I'm not super familiar
<v Speaker 1>with what that would mean, but that's kind of what
<v Speaker 1>I'm reading here. There's nine rogue Mega battles that are
<v Speaker 1>gonna happen between or against different Mega evolutions. There's Mega Maostick,
<v Speaker 1>Megastar raptor Mega Tatsugiri. I don't know, there's a whole
<v Speaker 1>bunch in there. And then apparently it's gonna have all
<v Speaker 1>Mega evolutions from the series. We'll be in this game
<v Speaker 1>in one form or another, nineteen new forms, so mega
<v Speaker 1>evolution is important to battle. And yes, yeah it sounds
<v Speaker 1>like hard on That is freaking huge grub. Yeah, it's funny.
<v Speaker 2>When we were all in New York, Seawan and I
<v Speaker 2>were talking about Obviously, Pokemonday Night Combat is on its
<v Speaker 2>way back to gb folks. Don't worry, we're dusting off
<v Speaker 2>the gym. Sean is getting the electrics sorted out, and
<v Speaker 2>we're going to figure out the plumbing. But the thing
<v Speaker 2>that I'm most excited about with all of these Mega
<v Speaker 2>Pokemon being revealed in Legend z A is how they're
<v Speaker 2>going All of that is going to transfer over to
<v Speaker 2>Pokemon Champions eventually. Also, Mega Halucha sick as hell. That's right, Scout.
<v Speaker 1>I saw a mad Halucha on top of the building
<v Speaker 1>once and I thought that was pretty cool, but he
<v Speaker 1>wasn't Mega. Yeah. I think I'm right at the point
<v Speaker 1>where Mega evolution rogue Mega Evolution battles or whatever you have,
<v Speaker 1>Rogue Mega evolution. Yeah, I think that's the next thing
<v Speaker 1>I'm doing. They kind of started talking about that, so
<v Speaker 1>I'm still pretty early in that game. Start playing Mortal
<v Speaker 1>Kombat instead, all right, so let's keep going here. I
<v Speaker 1>gotta close this, get it out of the way. Sonic's
<v Speaker 1>latest outing is a Grim Fall Guys knockoff with sixty
<v Speaker 1>dollars skins. Jan I'm very excited about this. This is
<v Speaker 1>from John Walker at Kotaku. It looks like a ripoff
<v Speaker 1>of Fall Guys, but Sonic, said my eleven year old
<v Speaker 1>as I clicked on the Steam page for Sonic Rumble Seriously,
<v Speaker 1>if you told me that that was a new Fall
<v Speaker 1>Guys skin, I'd believe you. When's the court case? Man,
<v Speaker 1>This eleven year old's spitting my tween ager's SaaS acide.
<v Speaker 1>It seems he's not the only one receiving the latest
<v Speaker 1>outing from Sega. Rather disapprovingly, Steam players are slamming the
<v Speaker 1>game as incredibly predatory and describing it as a micro
<v Speaker 1>transaction slop filled nightmare. We gotta play this. I gotta
<v Speaker 1>see this for myself. After a while with the game,
<v Speaker 1>I could confirm all of the above and most of
<v Speaker 1>all my boys prescient comments. Good grief, this is the
<v Speaker 1>most blatant Fall Guys knockoff, from the randomized round selection
<v Speaker 1>for each of the three knockout events to the mixture
<v Speaker 1>of round styles. I'm still gonna say the most blatant
<v Speaker 1>Fall Guys knockoff is the Stumble Guy's mobile game that
<v Speaker 1>became really popular. But okay, this could be a close
<v Speaker 1>second after that. Yeah, this is a weird one because
<v Speaker 1>it was like supposed to come out a long time ago.
<v Speaker 1>They kept delaying it. It's it's here, and now it's
<v Speaker 1>on Steam and Mobile. I think maybe Steam an Apple
<v Speaker 1>something like that, and it does just look like Fall Guys.
<v Speaker 1>I need to play it, though, Jam, because the thing
<v Speaker 1>with Fall Guys is it has kind of purposefully i'll
<v Speaker 1>call him, like translated controls. They're not supposed to be like,
<v Speaker 1>you're not supposed to feel like you have perfect one
<v Speaker 1>to one control over these little wobbly guys. Yeah, you're
<v Speaker 1>kind of suggesting a director a direction for the character
<v Speaker 1>to move and hoping for the best, and that is
<v Speaker 1>a great equalizer for everyone playing the game. Yes, Sonic
<v Speaker 1>doesn't move like that. Sonic shouldn't move like that is,
<v Speaker 1>but I think he does move a little bit like
<v Speaker 1>that in this game, and I think that is really
<v Speaker 1>a weird choice. Kind of felt like, hey, we should
<v Speaker 1>do one of these Fall Guys with Sonic, and they
<v Speaker 1>didn't think too much about it beyond that.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I again, this just feels like a fundamental misunderstanding
<v Speaker 2>of their primary mascot and character, grub.
<v Speaker 1>I Forge.
<v Speaker 2>The last time I saw this game was like super
<v Speaker 2>duper early leaks of what it was supposed to look like.
<v Speaker 2>Do they look Fall Guy adjacent or do they look
<v Speaker 2>like how they normally look in a Sonic game, Because
<v Speaker 2>if they look like a jelly Bean version of Shadow
<v Speaker 2>the Hedgehog or Sonic the Hedgehog. And I could see
<v Speaker 2>them getting away with the clumsy controls. But if they
<v Speaker 2>just look how they normally look, then that's kind of
<v Speaker 2>a bummer.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. I think they kind of look mostly normal, like
<v Speaker 1>maybe a little cheeby, but that's it, Like they don't.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, yeah, they certainly don't look like full on
<v Speaker 1>beans from Fall guys. That's yeah. So it's gonna I
<v Speaker 1>think it's gonna have a weird sort of a wave,
<v Speaker 1>like the visual conveyance of its information of like you
<v Speaker 1>feel like you should move like Sonic, but you don't.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>They are GB and I hate that they're cute grub.
<v Speaker 1>Oh it's super cute. Actually, Oh, Shadow.
<v Speaker 2>Of the Head, look at you, little boy, you got
<v Speaker 2>so many feelings inside. Don't pick up the.
<v Speaker 1>Gun rush still hot though, So we got that.
<v Speaker 2>That's kind of fucked up, let's see.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, this is also a micro transaction game because it's
<v Speaker 1>free to play. Uh and y'all read this right here,
<v Speaker 1>because I think this is important before we get onto
<v Speaker 1>just how much this free to play game wants you
<v Speaker 1>to spin your cash. I do want to dispel one
<v Speaker 1>myth that is spreading throughout the Steam reviews. There are
<v Speaker 1>a lot of people claiming that the game is pay
<v Speaker 1>to win, and this is absolutely and this absolutely isn't
<v Speaker 1>the case. It's confusing because it certainly implies that that,
<v Speaker 1>and it's very poor communication about what various add ons
<v Speaker 1>do provide, only talking about how they can improve your score,
<v Speaker 1>and given that you know rounds are scored, people's inaccurate
<v Speaker 1>reaction is perfectly understandable. Store descriptions typically typically read allow
<v Speaker 1>you to level up your buddies in skins, enhancing them.
<v Speaker 1>It increases your score bonus, making it easier to get
<v Speaker 1>higher scores during battles. What it actually impacts is how
<v Speaker 1>many rings you win after you've taken part in an event,
<v Speaker 1>which are then spent on more skins, poses, emojis, trails,
<v Speaker 1>and most excitingly of all background colors for your name.
<v Speaker 1>So it gets you on the upgrade for the cosmetics faster,
<v Speaker 1>but it does not improve your ability to actually win
<v Speaker 1>any of the rounds against other players. It sounds like,
<v Speaker 1>but let's get to the pricing here, you know again,
<v Speaker 1>I'll just read with John writes, Oh my god, the
<v Speaker 1>prices for these skins. I genuinely had to check twice
<v Speaker 1>because I was sure I'd made a mistake, but no.
<v Speaker 1>Most skins cost nine hundred and ninety nine red rings
<v Speaker 1>currently discount and discounted to seven hundred and twenty nine
<v Speaker 1>for the first month of the game, and seven hundred
<v Speaker 1>and seventy rings will cost you prepare yourself forty six
<v Speaker 1>dollars right now. To get nine and ninety nine red
<v Speaker 1>rings would require it buying the forty six dollars collection
<v Speaker 1>of seven hundred and seventy and then the twenty dollars
<v Speaker 1>pack of three hundred and thirty rings, meaning a regular
<v Speaker 1>skin price is a gobsmacking sixty dollars. That's why they
<v Speaker 1>do it, because they could charge the price of a
<v Speaker 1>game for one skin, although I don't know if that's
<v Speaker 1>gonna work. In the case of Sonic Rumble, I every
<v Speaker 1>time it feels like Sega's got it together, they still
<v Speaker 1>remind us that they're Sega, right, Yeah, And how come
<v Speaker 1>it always happens with Sonic. They treat Sonic like a
<v Speaker 1>garbage can, like they just throw everything in that dude.
<v Speaker 2>They build up such like good momentum with a Sonic
<v Speaker 2>Movies grub sonic mania, and then they're like, hey, you
<v Speaker 2>know what, he's durable enough. Let's throw him in the
<v Speaker 2>fucking mud. Yes, like you know what, a sonic is
<v Speaker 2>living the peak millennial experience of having very good highs
<v Speaker 2>and then fucking cratering of the goddamn.
<v Speaker 1>Bottom, absolute crashouts left and right. Hey, yeah, I still
<v Speaker 1>want to try this. I got to see for myself
<v Speaker 1>if it's especially if it's grim. Describing any Sonic game
<v Speaker 1>as grim that peaks by curiosity, So we'll make an
<v Speaker 1>excuse to do that, all right. Ignore the rumors World
<v Speaker 1>of Warcraft is not coming to consoles. This is from
<v Speaker 1>John Walker as well at Kotaku. Early next year, the
<v Speaker 1>twenty one year old MMO World of Warcraft is releasing
<v Speaker 1>its eleventh expansion Midnight, alongside new zones in the Blood
<v Speaker 1>Elf Homelands, player housing, and a wealth of new content.
<v Speaker 1>The expansion is also going to see yet another revision
<v Speaker 1>of the games UI, focused on implementing the features most
<v Speaker 1>players currently have to mod in, and this has caused
<v Speaker 1>people to suggest such streamlining could be part of preparing
<v Speaker 1>Wow for its debut on consoles. However, according to director
<v Speaker 1>and Greek Shipping magnate ion jsakostis, that's absolutely not happening.
<v Speaker 1>If we were actively were working towards bringing Wow to
<v Speaker 1>consoles or a bunch of other platforms, says the games
<v Speaker 1>current lead, we'd be sane we're actively working towards it,
<v Speaker 1>or we would actually say that we're actively working towards it.
<v Speaker 1>We know we have a lot of work to do,
<v Speaker 1>but it's a place where we want to land. But
<v Speaker 1>they're not doing that apparently, and they're being very clear
<v Speaker 1>and upfront about that not happening. World of Warcraft on
<v Speaker 1>console is something that's always been talked about. Jen I
<v Speaker 1>think that it seems like it should eventually happen, But
<v Speaker 1>at the same time, PC's only growing and people are
<v Speaker 1>like finding more ways to get into PC, and World
<v Speaker 1>of Warcraft is like one of those games. It's if
<v Speaker 1>you wanted to try it by now, you would have
<v Speaker 1>just like made it happen. And at the same time,
<v Speaker 1>I think if it just showed up on console, it
<v Speaker 1>would probably do very well, but it's not necessarily an
<v Speaker 1>easy game to translate to console. They'd have to do
<v Speaker 1>even more work than whatever streamlining they're doing for these updates.
<v Speaker 2>Like that being said, though, Greb. I feel like there's
<v Speaker 2>a significant install base with Final Fantasy four team that
<v Speaker 2>plays on their consoles, and that also is just it
<v Speaker 2>feels like it continues to grow. I actually don't know
<v Speaker 2>about the state of f F fourteen and like its growth,
<v Speaker 2>but it's been very hot and it's been like that
<v Speaker 2>for a long time. It just feels like a wasted
<v Speaker 2>opportunity to not try and poort it over to consoles.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, there's been so much quality of life stuff,
<v Speaker 2>people modding the game in some way to make it
<v Speaker 2>playable on like smaller form factors in terms of like
<v Speaker 2>the UI and everything, making control schemes for consoles. Also,
<v Speaker 2>I don't know, after a while, it feels like an
<v Speaker 2>issue with accessibility grub where I feel like with a
<v Speaker 2>game as big as World of Warcraft, and I know
<v Speaker 2>it's not as big as it used to be, but
<v Speaker 2>it's still significant in terms of like MMOs, I think
<v Speaker 2>you would want to reach the most amount of people
<v Speaker 2>in the most places that they're in, and there's a
<v Speaker 2>lot of people on consoles that might want to try
<v Speaker 2>and check out World of Warcraft, perhaps even in a
<v Speaker 2>mobile sphere as well. So I I just don't know
<v Speaker 2>why they're just being so feet in the dirt about
<v Speaker 2>it to say like we're not going.
<v Speaker 1>To go to consoles. Yeah, and I do. I bet
<v Speaker 1>there's always a debate internally about it. I bet they
<v Speaker 1>discuss it, and I bet there's people on both sides
<v Speaker 1>of it. I bet they have like a very specific reason,
<v Speaker 1>but not one that is like prime primed for public relations,
<v Speaker 1>for why they don't do this of the you know,
<v Speaker 1>along the lines of it's it's maybe just not worth
<v Speaker 1>it or yeah. I don't know, but I bet they
<v Speaker 1>have their reasons. And I because you're right, like everything
<v Speaker 1>you listed there is like, well, if they did it,
<v Speaker 1>it would just lead to this and that and all
<v Speaker 1>that seems like more money. But I don't know. They
<v Speaker 1>also seem to be happy with World of Warcraft staying
<v Speaker 1>on the trajectory it's been on. It is a regular
<v Speaker 1>money maker for them. It's I don't think it's growing
<v Speaker 1>in any real way, but it's also not shrinking, and
<v Speaker 1>so that means when they do have new content, it
<v Speaker 1>does stand to make a lot more money. And maybe
<v Speaker 1>they just don't want to rock the cradle at all.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know. Maybe they don't want an influx of
<v Speaker 1>a ton of new players that could like offset the
<v Speaker 1>balance of how people feel about their game, because they're like, no,
<v Speaker 1>these old players are worth so much and we don't
<v Speaker 1>want we want to cater to them. It's odd. But
<v Speaker 1>whenever I thought to Mike, who's played a lot of
<v Speaker 1>Word of Warcraft, He's like, I just kind of can't
<v Speaker 1>see it working on console. And then there's people in
<v Speaker 1>Champion like, oh, there's all kinds of mods that make
<v Speaker 1>it work with controllers. So I don't know. I still
<v Speaker 1>think there's a day where we end up seeing this happen,
<v Speaker 1>but maybe it's no time soon.
<v Speaker 2>I'm jammer, and the YouTube chat does bring up a
<v Speaker 2>good point of no, I'll just read their comment here.
<v Speaker 2>They don't want they were a user base to move
<v Speaker 2>to PlayStation and have to give thirty percent of their
<v Speaker 2>subscription fee to Sony.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that's that's a good point. That's a really good point.
<v Speaker 1>If people would move, that would be something that they
<v Speaker 1>would be a little scared of, because again, they're just
<v Speaker 1>happy with the way things are working. Although I just
<v Speaker 1>can't imagine how many people would move from one platform
<v Speaker 1>to the other. But maybe they don't even want those
<v Speaker 1>new players to have to give thirty.
<v Speaker 2>No is f F fourteen Mobile really on the way.
<v Speaker 2>I know that, that's sure.
<v Speaker 1>I'm sure that's happening. Yeah, oh okay, all right, all right,
<v Speaker 1>that seems like something they that that company would eventually
<v Speaker 1>want to get to. It's already that. It's a right
<v Speaker 1>kind of funns to fourteen Mobile is already out. Jesus. Okay, well, uh,
<v Speaker 1>I don't be on switch to.
<v Speaker 2>Then at some point I bet China, I gotta go.
<v Speaker 1>Oh, don't don't play fourteen Mobile. It's a separate game.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, interesting, Okay, thank you, Sean, Thank you, Sean, John
<v Speaker 2>d from going to China.
<v Speaker 1>Sorry, she always yes, it's no, It's okay. We got
<v Speaker 1>to have someone on top of that, otherwise we'll lose
<v Speaker 1>you to Macau. Terminator two D no Fate delayed for
<v Speaker 1>a third time to December twenty twenty five. This is
<v Speaker 1>from Sophie McAvoy at Games Industry. Doti is Terminator two
<v Speaker 1>D no Fate, which is that super Nintendo Arcade style
<v Speaker 1>Terminator two game that looks shit hot. This is the
<v Speaker 1>third delay. They're moving into December. The game had previously
<v Speaker 1>previously been delayed to November due to ongoing trade and
<v Speaker 1>tariff changes which affected shipments of physical components. The physical
<v Speaker 1>components for all additions have now finally arrived following the
<v Speaker 1>ongoing delays that pushed us off our previous schedule. But
<v Speaker 1>now they have to actually assemble the physical additions, which
<v Speaker 1>we need time to do, they said. So the game
<v Speaker 1>is still getting delayed because of the physical version, which
<v Speaker 1>is a little annoying because you know, I'm not going
<v Speaker 1>to get the physical version. But this is I think
<v Speaker 1>who's doing this, is this limited run games? It's maybe not,
<v Speaker 1>but if you have a physical version and that's like
<v Speaker 1>a big part of your business model of like, hey,
<v Speaker 1>one of the reasons we're going to make money on
<v Speaker 1>this is people are excited about that physical version, maybe
<v Speaker 1>you want to make sure that that launch us at
<v Speaker 1>the same time. I could see that, I understand it.
<v Speaker 1>But I think this game looks really good and I'm
<v Speaker 1>very curious to see it, So I hope it makes
<v Speaker 1>that this December date, especially after being promised to come
<v Speaker 1>out quite some time ago.
<v Speaker 2>Now I feel like crub that folks that would be
<v Speaker 2>interested in wanting to get the physical edition would just
<v Speaker 2>be fine waiting for the physical edition.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean, I would have guessed at this point,
<v Speaker 1>g In that they're used to it, right, because a
<v Speaker 1>lot of physical editions come out not just sometimes later,
<v Speaker 1>but much later after the digital version. But you know, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>because and I think that they wouldn't want to be
<v Speaker 1>the reason people don't get to play the digital version,
<v Speaker 1>because there's some people who are like, I'm getting the
<v Speaker 1>physical version, so I'm not going to play the digital
<v Speaker 1>version because I'm not going to pay for the game twice.
<v Speaker 1>I'm still I'm not completely irresponsible with my money, but
<v Speaker 1>i want to have the physical version and I'll play
<v Speaker 1>that version. And so they have ended up waiting a
<v Speaker 1>lot in the past. I don't know. Maybe the studio
<v Speaker 1>just doesn't want to treat them that way. They want
<v Speaker 1>to say, hey, physical people are just as important to us,
<v Speaker 1>and I wonder if that strikes a chord for that audience.
<v Speaker 1>I'm not in that audience, so I don't know.
<v Speaker 2>But that being said, Grub, I feel like sometimes the
<v Speaker 2>collectors out there are fine double dipping yeah, because they
<v Speaker 2>would guess so they will want to play the game,
<v Speaker 2>or appreciate the game, or maybe the game just whether
<v Speaker 2>or not it's good means something to them where they
<v Speaker 2>also want to play it early digital and then they'll
<v Speaker 2>have such a good time or just want to collect
<v Speaker 2>that they eventually swoop up the physical edition later when
<v Speaker 2>that eventually releases. Someone pointed out that eighties two physical
<v Speaker 2>isn't even out yet. It would seem insane to delay
<v Speaker 2>Hades to just to launch Dan date with a physical addition.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, anything anything that has is an indie game or
<v Speaker 1>has that indie game vibe. I would I wouldn't ever
<v Speaker 1>delay it for the physical version. The physical version can
<v Speaker 1>come later. Could be a special thing for super fans.
<v Speaker 1>But again, maybe that's just not how they want people
<v Speaker 1>to think about this particular product. Someone said it was
<v Speaker 1>Reef Entertainment was the publisher. I think that's right, And
<v Speaker 1>no Crafty. I don't think they used will be back
<v Speaker 1>and for this delay. They might have used it for
<v Speaker 1>the second Yeah, the second delay or the first delay.
<v Speaker 1>You can't use it for delay number three. At that point,
<v Speaker 1>you can't be cute anymore. You gotta just be like, look,
<v Speaker 1>we're taking care of the ship. We're sorry, no more jokes.
<v Speaker 2>What they did, what they should have done, is like
<v Speaker 2>instead of the thumbs up, sinking into like the Magma
<v Speaker 2>just a physical copy of the game sinking into the perfect.
<v Speaker 1>The Legend of Zelda Movie is now in production in
<v Speaker 1>New Zealand. This is from Jim Norman at Nintendo Life.
<v Speaker 1>Thanks appear to be chugging along nicely for Nintendo and
<v Speaker 1>Sony's live action The Legend of Zelda Movie, as the
<v Speaker 1>film has officially started shooting this week thanks of the
<v Speaker 1>heads up my Nintendo News. The film's listing on the
<v Speaker 1>Film and Television Industry Alliance website has seen a status
<v Speaker 1>update this week, with the former pre production stamp changing
<v Speaker 1>to the much more promising in production that's what we
<v Speaker 1>like to see. The main filming location is listed on
<v Speaker 1>the site as willing to New Zealand, a common spot
<v Speaker 1>for bringing fantasy Lands to the big screen, has previously
<v Speaker 1>used for the Lord of the Rings trilogy Avatar in
<v Speaker 1>King Kong. Also, apparently, New Zealand is where all those
<v Speaker 1>billionaires are building their bunkers for when the world goes
<v Speaker 1>the shit and they leave us all behind. That's a
<v Speaker 1>fun time. I I guess this movie's gonna happen jan
<v Speaker 1>This one feels like they're really gonna make this a
<v Speaker 1>live action Zelda movie. From the director of was it
<v Speaker 1>the Maze Runner movies? I think West Ball. He also
<v Speaker 1>did that fourth Planet of the Apes movie, which is
<v Speaker 1>like the you know, the twelfth one if you're counting
<v Speaker 1>from the beginning. And yeah, I'm I don't know, am
<v Speaker 1>I excited? I'm very curious to see what this thing's
<v Speaker 1>going to look like and sound like grub I'm curious.
<v Speaker 2>Why do why do you people think this wouldn't have
<v Speaker 2>actually happened?
<v Speaker 1>I feel like, just yeah, just because video game movies mostly,
<v Speaker 1>and this one feels like a complicated one to figure out.
<v Speaker 1>And it's like, you know, you know, these like the
<v Speaker 1>Halo movie took forever and then that never ended up happening.
<v Speaker 1>It turned into a TV show, And in my mind,
<v Speaker 1>that's you know, middle Gear solid same thing, and to me,
<v Speaker 1>Zelda's right there in there. What's like, Yeah, that could
<v Speaker 1>be a great movie, says an executive, And then some
<v Speaker 1>creatives have to figure it out and no one's happy
<v Speaker 1>with what they end up with. Now, obviously this is
<v Speaker 1>a little bit different because Nintendo is super involved and
<v Speaker 1>everyone that wants to work with Nintendo on these projects
<v Speaker 1>sort of has to agree to their terms, and Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>is serious about getting these things made, but old habits
<v Speaker 1>and expectations die hard for me, and it's like, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>this is going to end up like the Metal Gear
<v Speaker 1>Solid movies, where I won't believe it until I actually
<v Speaker 1>see something.
<v Speaker 2>Sure, I feel like I was approaching this from a
<v Speaker 2>very different mindset, where I think Nintendo saw the dollar
<v Speaker 2>signs and the success of the Mario movie, the animated one,
<v Speaker 2>not the Bob Hoskins John Leguzamo classic, and I feel
<v Speaker 2>like they see the value in a pe to people
<v Speaker 2>in Hollywood because now not only are they in rotation
<v Speaker 2>for the parents playing Nintendo games, but now the Mario movie,
<v Speaker 2>I am sure has gotten an obscene amount of replayability
<v Speaker 2>in houses since it's come out. And also, I don't know,
<v Speaker 2>I think Wes Ball can probably direct a good Legend
<v Speaker 2>of Zelda movie. It remains to be seen what the
<v Speaker 2>script is going to look like. And I hope there's
<v Speaker 2>not a lot of studio meddling from people. But I
<v Speaker 2>think Miyamoto saw how to make a movie and I
<v Speaker 2>was like, Hey, this is fun. Let's go make more
<v Speaker 2>of these.
<v Speaker 1>Yep. Yeah, you know, I will, like I said, be
<v Speaker 1>very curious to see how it ends up, and I'm
<v Speaker 1>gonna let myself start getting a little excited. I would
<v Speaker 1>like to see a very good Zelda movie. I think
<v Speaker 1>we'll probably end up with something that is relatively mediocre,
<v Speaker 1>just because that's the safe bet with a Hollywood movie,
<v Speaker 1>especially one based on a video game property. But maybe
<v Speaker 1>they'll get this one right, and it'd be cool to
<v Speaker 1>see if they could set it up as major franchise
<v Speaker 1>long term and we get like five of these movies,
<v Speaker 1>that would be cool.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, based off of the cast grub, I feel
<v Speaker 2>like it is not gonna be quite like y a Dystopian,
<v Speaker 2>but maybe hopefully like, let's just go for ghibli vibes, you.
<v Speaker 1>Know, yeah, I think live Actionibli Jhibli vibes. If they
<v Speaker 1>could pull that off, that would be that would be awesome.
<v Speaker 1>I would love to see that, all right. Then, last
<v Speaker 1>one here, this is a silly one. Miamoto was asked
<v Speaker 1>what former Nintendo president Hiroshi yama Uchi ya yama Chi
<v Speaker 1>A you're not supposed to pronounce to you. I don't
<v Speaker 1>know how to say it. Would think up switch to sales.
<v Speaker 1>This is from my Nintendo News. Legendary video game designer
<v Speaker 1>Skiro Miyamoto was asked randomly by an investor what the
<v Speaker 1>former Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamachi would think of the company's
<v Speaker 1>impressive Nintendo switch to sales. Miyamoto replied by saying that
<v Speaker 1>he would be a little jealous that they've had that
<v Speaker 1>they've achieved so much success, but he would also advise
<v Speaker 1>them not to get too cocky and keep their heads
<v Speaker 1>down the Kyoto business ways kind of how Miamoto ended
<v Speaker 1>up describing it. I love though that the first thing
<v Speaker 1>he said was he would be jealous because he's incredibly
<v Speaker 1>ruthless and once all the success to be his, which
<v Speaker 1>is apparently very true of Yumachi. He was famously ruthless.
<v Speaker 1>All those stories of those other publishers feeling like Nintendo
<v Speaker 1>had an iring grip around their throats, that was Yamachi.
<v Speaker 1>That was him, sort of just like being like, you
<v Speaker 1>sign here and you agree to our terms or else
<v Speaker 1>you're not going to be able to be in video games.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, I believe Miyamoto probably knew him well and
<v Speaker 1>would know that His first inclination to be like, how
<v Speaker 1>dare you succeed all this without me?
<v Speaker 2>That's what an odd story to pop up, Like why
<v Speaker 2>it's like asking it's like asking someone like, hey, what
<v Speaker 2>do you think, like, congrats on getting married?
<v Speaker 1>How do you think your ex would feel?
<v Speaker 2>And I mean your ex from the fifth grade?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah right, yes, exactly. Yeah. This is the guy that
<v Speaker 1>like turned Nintendo into a big video game empire. Before that,
<v Speaker 1>they were this toy company and card company, and certainly
<v Speaker 1>like his he looms large over Nintendo still, but at
<v Speaker 1>this point, it's like most people think of a Wata first,
<v Speaker 1>and maybe rightfully so, because he was the one that
<v Speaker 1>fully embodied what Nintendo was and kind of set them
<v Speaker 1>up for future success in a lot of ways.
<v Speaker 2>Also a Wanta just like low key swaggy.
<v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, yeah, absolutely. He went up there and he
<v Speaker 1>did it. He gave a speech in English at the
<v Speaker 1>Game Developer Conference and just everyone was so moved by
<v Speaker 1>it became like one of the most memorable moments from
<v Speaker 1>the g from GDC conferences ever. Yeah, and it's like
<v Speaker 1>he only does that because he's got that charisma.
<v Speaker 2>I only think of certain public figures in game development
<v Speaker 2>and game publishing as a based crub. I feel like
<v Speaker 2>the term based is thrown around too often.
<v Speaker 1>A lot of loose loose out there with the based based,
<v Speaker 1>agreed based, a watum. All right, that does it for
<v Speaker 1>the headlines. Let's get to the pull question from yesterday.
<v Speaker 1>I have it over here. In fact, I'm going to
<v Speaker 1>actually just type it in here. There we go, jib
<v Speaker 1>bomb slash post on YouTube. Do you have a PlayStation portal?
<v Speaker 1>Yes or no? I do not, so so does eighty
<v Speaker 1>five percent also does not have a PlayStation portal. Fifteen
<v Speaker 1>percent does own one, though that's a pretty significant number,
<v Speaker 1>I think because this is like it's a peripheral, right,
<v Speaker 1>it's an add on, it's a nice to have, And
<v Speaker 1>I think that's the kind of thing where Sony sees that,
<v Speaker 1>and it's like this thing that had limited functionality is
<v Speaker 1>serving a very specific purpose for a lot of people,
<v Speaker 1>and people showed up for it. And now they've improved
<v Speaker 1>the abilities of that system, the capabilities of that system
<v Speaker 1>in introducing more robust cloud streaming for games that people
<v Speaker 1>even own, so you don't even have Like normally, if
<v Speaker 1>you own a game and it's on your PlayStation five
<v Speaker 1>at home, you could stream a game from your PlayStation five.
<v Speaker 1>Now you can stream a game you own digitally from
<v Speaker 1>the cloud without your without having to worry about your
<v Speaker 1>PlayStation five or maybe without even owning a PlayStation five,
<v Speaker 1>although Jan in that case, I think the person would
<v Speaker 1>have to pay for PlayStation plus premium, And so without
<v Speaker 1>owning a PlayStation five, only owning a portal, you'd still
<v Speaker 1>have to pay one hundred and eighty dollars a year
<v Speaker 1>or something like that to use the cloud streaming specifically,
<v Speaker 1>So it's it's still a little weird, still a little
<v Speaker 1>odd there.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I you and I grub are the same where
<v Speaker 2>we have flirted with the idea of picking up a
<v Speaker 2>portal for what seems like forever now, and I think
<v Speaker 2>I am just happy that people that have picked it
<v Speaker 2>up enjoy it, and I think I'm finally over the
<v Speaker 2>hump of not wanting one, but I now want that
<v Speaker 2>stupid little DS handheld the ay and thor that Dan
<v Speaker 2>showed off.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, yep, it's not one thing, it's the other. Absolutely,
<v Speaker 1>And people pointed out PlayStation's cloud streaming though, is good.
<v Speaker 1>It is good. It much better than xboxes for sure,
<v Speaker 1>So the very least you're gonna get good quality and
<v Speaker 1>a good experience using the cloud gaming that you're paying for.
<v Speaker 1>Over there. New poll question, would you check out World
<v Speaker 1>of Warcraft if it ever came to console, yes or no, Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>just answer the question how you feel like we'll get
<v Speaker 1>the results talk about it on Game Mess Mornings here
<v Speaker 1>on Giant Bomb tomorrow. Speaking of Giant Bomb, say we're
<v Speaker 1>gonna do voicemail dumb truck not too long for now, right.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I think we're doing it an hour from the
<v Speaker 2>time that Gamess Mornings wraps. If you're watching live doing
<v Speaker 2>a scoch early. I appreciate everyone for sending their voicemails
<v Speaker 2>in game Miss Mornings popping off again tomorrow, Grub as
<v Speaker 2>well as unprofessional fox Hunt. At least we're gonna try
<v Speaker 2>and make it happen. And oh, Grub, Grub, I gotta say,
<v Speaker 2>I went all the way in on dispatch.
<v Speaker 1>I saw did you like catch all the way up?
<v Speaker 1>Are you like all the way through? Okay?
<v Speaker 2>Hell yeah, I caught all the way up. I love
<v Speaker 2>everything about it. It's I don't I hate when because
<v Speaker 2>I hate the thought of recency bias when it comes
<v Speaker 2>to Game of the Year Grub and I think if
<v Speaker 2>they managed to stick the learnder with like the last
<v Speaker 2>two episodes coming out and I think they're coming out
<v Speaker 2>next week.
<v Speaker 1>I think so.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I think it's a lock for my top five.
<v Speaker 1>Wow, okay, let's just let's go.
<v Speaker 2>Then, a lot of a lot of a lot of
<v Speaker 2>a lot of fun, good stuff in that game.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>I I know that Dan had a bit of friction
<v Speaker 2>when talking about the Walking Dead Telltale games, but I
<v Speaker 2>really like them a bunch.
<v Speaker 1>Oh yeah, I did.
<v Speaker 2>And I'm glad to see that that genre of game
<v Speaker 2>has is being preserved and is being done well.
<v Speaker 1>Especially Yeah, I'm kind of being set up for the future, right.
<v Speaker 1>This feels like, Oh, this technology is clearly improved from
<v Speaker 1>where it was before, and if this is what they
<v Speaker 1>could do with this now, hopefully that sets them up
<v Speaker 1>to really nail this stuff going forward. So again, it's
<v Speaker 1>ad Hoc, but it's a lot of former Telltale people
<v Speaker 1>apparently there.
<v Speaker 2>And also I'm such a mark for superhero content grub
<v Speaker 2>as we all know. And I would absolutely love for
<v Speaker 2>a big studio or a smaller studio like ad Hoc
<v Speaker 2>to maybe partner up with Marvel's probably too big, but
<v Speaker 2>I could see this working so well in like the
<v Speaker 2>Invincible Universe. I could see this working incredibly well in
<v Speaker 2>like a different ip even telling a side story.
<v Speaker 1>Give me more of this. I like reading and watching. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I think they should do it with Cormack McCarthy novels.
<v Speaker 1>Do a telltale version of the road. Hey, where'd they
<v Speaker 1>get that baby from? Who could say?
<v Speaker 2>Do a telltale game like this with animorphs? Hell yeah, yes,
<v Speaker 2>Pete like Gang. I know that y'all have heard me
<v Speaker 2>talk about this, but the whole is so goddamn deep
<v Speaker 2>in terms of lore.
<v Speaker 1>Better be it better than Mike situation for sure? Uh oh,
<v Speaker 1>all right, we'll get that pull question wrapped up. We
<v Speaker 1>got all that stuff coming. What else do we gotta do?
<v Speaker 1>We talked about a voicemail dump truck today. Jan Thank
<v Speaker 1>you so much for hanging out with me today and
<v Speaker 1>talk about video games. Man, I really appreciate it. It's
<v Speaker 1>my favorite way to start a Thursday. Greb mine too.
<v Speaker 1>Thank you all for watching and listening. You are the
<v Speaker 1>best audience in gaming. Until next time, have a good one,
<v Speaker 1>take care of yourself and goodbye and thank you.
