Speaker 2: Welcome everyone. It is Kentucky Sports Radio Wednesday, October twenty ninth. I am Matt Jones here on a rainy kind of nasty day in Lexington, Kentucky. But you can give Seant Clark's pumping shop phone line. That's a five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. A Vision Auto Glass text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four in this a edition sponsored by the TJ. Smith Office. If you call TJ, he'll make them pay. It is Wings Day here at Ksbar dollar Wings all day for lunch and dinner can come by you know what, even with rain, you need food to eat. Right, we are here, Matt, Ryan, and Drew, got some folks here joining us. And Ryan, nice to see you this morning. I'm sure last night you ate with a lot of people to get yourself mentally ready for next week and all your solo adventures. I ate out in your honor last night by myself.

00:01:20
Speaker 3: That's what it kind of hit home with me. You tweeted out that picture of you by yourself in a restaurant with a lot of empty seats. I thought, Oh, but did I look sad? Well, I couldn't see your face.

00:01:30
Speaker 2: It's because there was a big smile on the other side of it, and enjoying myself.

00:01:35
Speaker 3: I'm mapping out my strategy, but you know there's a couple of well, there's gonna.

00:01:39
Speaker 2: Be some things thrown. You can have all the strategy you want, but this is a game by game. This is a day by day decision. So just so you know you can have all your strategy, there are a couple of games. Yeah, doesn't change anything.

00:01:51
Speaker 3: Dog, Do I move it to lunch that day?

00:01:53
Speaker 4: No?

00:01:54
Speaker 2: You just you eat and the gate. You could pick somewhere where the game's on. But you can't pick somewhere where we're like, we'll pick. We got it right, Drew, We're gonna make this. We're gonna make this.

00:02:06
Speaker 3: You say we're gonna pick.

00:02:07
Speaker 4: Yeah, it sounded like a Weekise, Louise, me and Drew. Yeah, we're the committee. Drew and I are taking the lead on this. It still blows my mind how this is so complicated you're gonna get through it. I think you're actually gonna enjoy it.

00:02:20
Speaker 2: Normally, when when we do these things and we make Ryan do stuff, if you read the text machine, there's like half the people are saying, you know, go for it, and then half the people are like, Matt, why don't you and Drew ever do any challenges? You always make Ryan do this, you know, blah blah blah blah blah. On this one, it's like ninety eight percent. What is wrong with Ryan? Why does he not want? You get free food for a week, you get to eat. I'm gonna send you to play. I'm not gonna send you to dumps. I'm gonna send you a nice place. They're gonna get h they're gonna get an advertising. So people don't understand this one, Drew, Why this would be so hard.

00:02:54
Speaker 4: Yeah, And I genuinely think he's gonna get there and say I could have been doing this all along. Everybody needs a little me time every once in a while, like you said yesterday, being lonely all the time, that's not different. But every once in a while you need to just take a deep breath and have a little quiet time, have a little meal. And I think you're get enjoyed this. This is exciting.

00:03:11
Speaker 3: I talked to my brother last night. He travels a lot, so he has to eat a lot by himself. He was giving me some a pointer, some advice.

00:03:17
Speaker 4: What you're getting coaching is what are the pointers?

00:03:20
Speaker 3: He said, get you a table right in front of a big screen TV. And he said, you won't even notice the factor by yourself if you're watching a game, watching the.

00:03:26
Speaker 2: One first of all, I mean you're going to restaurant. Not all of them have a big screen TV. Like, this is not your list.

00:03:31
Speaker 3: That's why I was gonna pick. I didn't know you and Brew were gonna pick.

00:03:35
Speaker 2: We're gonna pick.

00:03:35
Speaker 4: Actually, you're kind of dressed up today for you.

00:03:38
Speaker 3: We got that media basketball price.

00:03:40
Speaker 4: So you decided to wear a shirt with sleeves.

00:03:42
Speaker 3: I couldn't wear you know, slobby clothes.

00:03:46
Speaker 4: Yeah, so well you look you look good. Last press conference, you're gonna ask a question. You're gonna get back into reporter mode. Point, are you gonna ask a question? Scoop Scoop living w l A X sixteen.

00:03:57
Speaker 3: I can't remember the last time I went to a press conference as a member of the media where I will ask a question?

00:04:03
Speaker 2: Did you even go to a cow one? You've been to some NCAA tournament? One ask a question? When's Yeah? When's last time you asked a question?

00:04:12
Speaker 3: Tubby? So is Robbie gonna get in the game tonight? Maybe you don't think you asked call any questions? Oh no, I didn't, absolutely all right, So he.

00:04:18
Speaker 2: Asked to ask a question right like like you, you need to ask a question today. You're a little rusty, ain't he used to work with him. He'll appreciate it. It's he'll he likes you. It'll be it'll been seventeen years.

00:04:30
Speaker 3: So will you ask a question? I'll work on it.

00:04:32
Speaker 2: Oh no, no, will you ask a question? This is this is gonna be great. This is a great chance you can be the voice of the fans.

00:04:38
Speaker 3: Coach Pope. Do you ever go out and eat by yourself and you do.

00:04:40
Speaker 5: What you do?

00:04:41
Speaker 2: Question? Either we want I want you to I'll tell you what can we ask the fans if they what question you perfect?

00:04:46
Speaker 4: Perfect seven seven two seven seven four five two PC.

00:04:49
Speaker 2: How are you gonna introduce yourself?

00:04:51
Speaker 4: Coach?

00:04:52
Speaker 3: Hey, Ryan Levan, Remember we used to work together, hang out and drink beers together.

00:04:55
Speaker 2: No, no, I mean, stop the jokes. How are you going to introduce yourself?

00:04:58
Speaker 3: I say, hey, coach and kr boom boom.

00:05:03
Speaker 4: I like it when Color asked the question at the big press conference and Pope recognized him from your eighteen days, he's now his like his intro. I'm just saying it was like a big moment for him. He's gonna know it.

00:05:12
Speaker 2: He Mark really likes him, likely because you all legitimately did work together.

00:05:17
Speaker 3: Yeah, when you interviewed Coach Pope in that in that room over the Craft Center, we talked for a little bit, you know, talk about old times and kind of hun Remember the first said the first thing he hid to me because I'm just glad that you have your hurt your shirt on. It's like that's what he knows me for the idiot that takes it. It takes his shirt off.

00:05:33
Speaker 2: Well, I'm looking forward today Today will be fun watching. You ask the question, are they going to stream that press conference? People can watch Ryan in reporter mode.

00:05:40
Speaker 4: I don't know if they've been streaming him this year. You know, there's apps and different things, so I don't know. They normally do stream them, but I don't know if they're doing it this year.

00:05:48
Speaker 2: It's kind of new. Well, all right, if I'm not two eight twenty two eighty seven, I right for the show got off the air with I was on with Greg McElroy and Cole Qbuck. I do that before every time Kentucky plays Alabama or Auburn. They of course play Auburn Saturday, which is easy to forget because we haven't really talked about that game at all, even though it's arguably Kentucky's best chance at an SEC game all year is is Saturday. I think it's a loser leaves town matchup. I think whoever loses this I think is fired, maybe both fired anyway, but I think there's whoever loses this may not I don't know. I mean, they may not make it out of.

00:06:33
Speaker 3: The next week.

00:06:33
Speaker 2: We'll see do you think we have a chance of winning the game.

00:06:39
Speaker 3: I actually thought we had a pretty good chance until this last weekend and Auburn changed quarterbacks and they won that game at Arkansas on the road, came from behind to do it. So makes me a little scared that maybe they have found theirselves a little bit.

00:06:50
Speaker 2: They are Their offense, Cole said when I was on the air, is not anything like Tennessee's. Basically, it's a lot it's short passes, runs, it's essentially he said, the problems Kentucky had against Tennessee they won't have against Auburn. So it's kind of a game. They're not like a ground and pound like, they're not like Texas. But it's probably a game that sets up for us a little bit better than timon Deef.

00:07:13
Speaker 4: I mean, as much as I want to beat the Falls, with that matchup, you said, Brad White just has no answer for Josh Hipel. We've seen it five years now. Kind of felt like never we're going to be in that game. But Auburn you can, even though you're a ten and a half point underdog.

00:07:26
Speaker 2: Now what it is? Yeah, well that's it now. See that feels high. I thought Tennessee was way low ten and half feels hot.

00:07:34
Speaker 4: I thought the Tennessee line was a huge overreaction to Texas, But anyway, they have a good running back. He's I think second in the conference. But I mean they're not putting up a lot of points. The games they've lost have been close, but they've all been pretty low scoring. So I think you can be in it, especially with the way the offense just keeps taking a step forward each game.

00:07:50
Speaker 2: I think you could make an argument the Tennessee line was the worst line of the year.

00:07:54
Speaker 4: I was shocked when I opened DraftKings on Sunday and saw that it wasn't like fourteen.

00:07:59
Speaker 3: We all said we don't bet on Kentucky, but I bet Tennessee dislike everybody else.

00:08:03
Speaker 4: Do you both did that?

00:08:04
Speaker 5: Yeah?

00:08:05
Speaker 2: Too easy, Ryan? How much did you bet?

00:08:07
Speaker 3: I bet a whole five dollars on Tennessee. I think I won like nine dollars.

00:08:12
Speaker 4: Well, that's a.

00:08:13
Speaker 2: Big bet for you.

00:08:14
Speaker 4: Is it's usually like a fifty cent punt?

00:08:15
Speaker 3: Yeah, one dollar, two dollar bets. I saw Nick Rouse dub this the hot seat Bowl. Like you said, los loser leaves town.

00:08:22
Speaker 2: Yeah, loser leaves Town's a better name, Yeah, than the hot seat Bowl. I think we can win. I was yesterday, I was out and I was asked by someone, Matt, what percentage of the fan base do you think wants a change to be made? And it's a good question. What percentage of the Well, what's I mean? We've got some folks here, I promise I won't take your picture. How many of you raise your hand would like to see a change made?

00:08:53
Speaker 4: So you two would not you two would like to see Stoops to be the coach here next year?

00:08:59
Speaker 2: Give him another It's okay. So that would mean if you were to just use this place, it would probably be you know, eighty percent of the fan base.

00:09:07
Speaker 4: Now, these are two very sweet ladies. We've seen them over the years.

00:09:10
Speaker 2: That they they might be a little nicer than the average UK fan.

00:09:15
Speaker 4: I don't think they had the brown bag over their head or maam, you didn't.

00:09:19
Speaker 2: Have a brown bag over your head?

00:09:21
Speaker 3: Okay, but you know what, you could almost make an argument that they're Mitch Barnhart. Mitch Barnhart's the sweet old lady sitting in the corner.

00:09:27
Speaker 2: You're saying, Mitch Barnhart's a sweet old lady. I think he might be all, how are you gonna look at these women in columns old.

00:09:34
Speaker 3: Grandma's right, go in the wrong direction.

00:09:38
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's why not just say these sweet ladies, right, we don't know that their grandma's. Yes, we don't know their grandma's.

00:09:45
Speaker 2: Do you just find a way, don't you? But you think this is Mitch Barnes Heart's constituent.

00:09:51
Speaker 3: I think Mitch Barnhart. I don't know this. I'm just saying I think he's the type of guy that is gonna give Mark Stoops every single possible chance to pull this out.

00:10:00
Speaker 2: All right, So so this this room is eighty percent. What do you think the fan base as a whole is true?

00:10:07
Speaker 4: I was gonna say, I don't know a person that once in back until these two beautiful women here, So I would have gone a lot higher, probably in the ninety percent of you said, is there any.

00:10:17
Speaker 2: Chance though our view is skewed by the online Absolutely, fan base is much more just in general, is much more negative than than the regular fans.

00:10:28
Speaker 4: Completely acknowledge that. Especially I'm on chaos board. Your message boards just naturally, uh kind of lean that way. I'm on that all day. So yeah, most of the people I'm interacting with are among the most unhappy right now, but you'd still say nine.

00:10:41
Speaker 3: You know, the postgame show at the Tennessee game, the fans that called in weren't really mad or angry. They sounded broken.

00:10:47
Speaker 2: But I listened to half that none of those people probably would have voted to bringing back agreed, So like, they weren't angry, but they were still like.

00:10:55
Speaker 3: They're they're broken.

00:10:56
Speaker 2: I think you need to change.

00:10:57
Speaker 3: That's almost worse. Yeah, we get that point where we need this choice on that.

00:11:01
Speaker 4: I noticed, and I even wrote a little bit of this on the website. Saturday night after the Texas game. I was in the parking lot when people were leaving and they're just mad, yelling, bleep this, get them out of here. Tennessee game, everybody was leaving early, just silent. Do you think got it down? Whatever? Let's gone?

00:11:17
Speaker 2: Well, So Cole asked me, what's the moment that broke it for the fan base, And it's an interesting question. What is the moment that just made most fans go time to move on? Is there a game? Is there?

00:11:33
Speaker 4: What I said to him was I thought it slowly started.

00:11:36
Speaker 2: Happening last year during the season, and then Vince was a big one, and then I thought Texas was the final straw. Do you agree with that? Yeah?

00:11:48
Speaker 4: And how you lost Texas, I mean, Mitch bart Mitch Barnhardt said on Wednesday of that week, sometimes you work hard in your yard short. He said that before the Texas.

00:11:57
Speaker 2: Game, like he saw it.

00:11:58
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, And I think also the Texas game, a lot of people went in and think we're gonna get killed. They convinced themselves we could win, only to get hurt one last time when they weren't gonna let themselves get hurt again.

00:12:09
Speaker 2: And I also don't think you can overlook the conglomeration of factors of Indiana, Vanderbilt, Good, Louisville Rising, Liam Cohen's coaching with the Jaguars. We got all these dudes. I mean, I saw Carrington Valentine was making big plays the other night for the Packers. Like, we got all these guys succeeding. You're like, why haven't we won more? What about you? What do you think was the moment?

00:12:33
Speaker 3: I'm kind of with you, you know, since the season that last game against Louisville, they just got embarrassed and they kind of caught.

00:12:40
Speaker 2: That's a big one too. I think getting embarrassed by Louisville and people quitting, I think that's a big one.

00:12:44
Speaker 3: And then immediately, you know, Dane left, Baryon left, he gave Wolford another contract, Vince left. But man, when they're first and goal from the three of the chance to beat Texas and you can't punch it in from there, that was one. I think it was over for me.

00:12:57
Speaker 4: Yeah, And I don't mean to beat the dead pr horse, but a lot of people that were on the fence, just your quiet spring and summer did not help keep anybody on board.

00:13:05
Speaker 2: I agree.

00:13:06
Speaker 4: I mean, I like it's almost like, well, if you're not interested in anything.

00:13:10
Speaker 2: I think whatever decision you could make in the last year and a half, they've made the wrong one, all right. So I mean, I'm I'm seeing you know, sometimes you just like there's an old skit on Saturday Night Live, bad bad idea jeans, like you put them on in every single decision you make is bad. I think they the football programs had bad idea jeans on for the last time.

00:13:33
Speaker 3: What I haven't seen that skip that's kind of funny, it is, I look it up.

00:13:37
Speaker 4: It's called bad idea, all right. So this this restaurant is eighty percent go.

00:13:43
Speaker 3: What do you think it's gonna be on your Well, let's.

00:13:45
Speaker 2: Do the text with she I'm gonna give you all you just so, here's the thing. I don't want to write fire or not fire? So right, Yes, change needs to be made. No, it doesn't. Okay, just yes or no, and let's do a text miss. This will be more positive than like message boards twitters twitters twitters are But what is it?

00:14:08
Speaker 4: Yes, No, let's let's do that and we'll see what it is.

00:14:12
Speaker 2: What do you think it's gonna be.

00:14:13
Speaker 3: I think it's gonna be up there eighty ninety percent.

00:14:15
Speaker 2: All right, we'll find out. We'll take a break A five nine twenty two eighty seven. We're gonna talk about a lot of the Brian Kelly situation affects us, but it's also crazy as the stories come out about what really happened. By the way, that's gonna happen here too, if it happened, the what happened, what really happened? Those are coming. We'll take a break and be right back. KOSR warnerback it is, can tuck you Sports Radio here at ks Bar, Dollar Wings, try the burgers tater Kegs now our third biggest seller. I'm I'm a huge tater Keg advocat there awesome. The problem is when I order him during the pregame show, Ryan sneaks and eats half of them when I'm not looking. Hey literally waits till I turn my head and then grabs one, and I'll look and he'll be like a little child with a big piece of food in his mouth.

00:14:59
Speaker 3: Drew sees me. You get up and do use your manager of stuff, and I come sneak over there and eat a couple of.

00:15:03
Speaker 4: It's a Ryan text. It's a Ryan text.

00:15:06
Speaker 2: Okay. First of all, I thought it would be a lot of yeses. I did not think it would be this much.

00:15:17
Speaker 3: As you scroll with you look at it nothing but look at this.

00:15:19
Speaker 2: Find me a no wow? I mean that's I mean, find me and know like you two might be the only two in the entire fan But no, there's one. Okay, there's a no.

00:15:30
Speaker 4: She said she's a season ticket holder since seventy five, so she's seen some bad football.

00:15:35
Speaker 2: Literally, this would be and this is not an exaggeration. I know we do these polls and like I try to there probably has never been a question I've asked that's had more universal yes. It's got to be ninety eight percent, there's no. I mean I'm sitting here looking at hundreds of yeses.

00:15:55
Speaker 3: I think that's a fair indication of where our fan base is right now. Though.

00:15:59
Speaker 2: Yeah, but I didn't realize it was this.

00:16:01
Speaker 4: What do you think Mitch's emails like Okay, I mean again, like look at that.

00:16:05
Speaker 2: I mean, this is crazy. I almost want to I almost want to get Mario just to film this. I mean, I've never seen anything like that. I've never asked anything on this show and seen a universal answer. There's no. But I'm seeing like dozens of yes is before I come to a no, Like Mitch cannot bring you back. You can't like there's this is there's no question you can ask humanity and get this many yeses. Right, I'm a Seriously when I said, only question you could ask the general public where you could get ninety eight percent yes, I mean there's not a question. I can't think about a poll. What is a poll you could take in America that would get ninety eight percent yes?

00:16:48
Speaker 3: Do you need air to breathe?

00:16:50
Speaker 4: No?

00:16:50
Speaker 2: There are three percent of Americans that would say no, they did their own research.

00:16:58
Speaker 4: I think that could go all day and it wouldn't change. I think that you're.

00:17:01
Speaker 3: Gonna get yes is yes all day long with people listening to the podcast.

00:17:05
Speaker 2: When I did this with Cal, just to give an example, when I did this with Cal after the Oakland game, but before he left for Arkansas, it was probably seventy five eighty percent yes. But there was a definite even listeners of this show, there was a definite twenty to twenty five percent Cal group, and in the fan base as a whole, there might have even been more because some of his strong supporters didn't like.

00:17:28
Speaker 4: Me because I was doing so.

00:17:30
Speaker 2: But it was this, I mean, this is the I'm really shocked. I thought it was gonna be eighty five ninety eight. I would have never played.

00:17:40
Speaker 4: I always say football is harder because there's not an obvious upset, like you don't get a tournament situation. You kind of have to form your opinion on your record. Yeah, but when you've lost eleven straight at home against teams that mattered, that's about as close as you can get to one of those upsets. You shouldn't have.

00:17:55
Speaker 2: I don't think the national the national media realizes this, right, Like I I don't think they get it. Like when I said on McElroy and Cole's show, I said, yeah, he's probably not gonna be the coach. McElroy was like, really is that? I mean, like, I don't think they get it. I don't think the rest of the country realizes we feel like this.

00:18:13
Speaker 3: Like I said, it's the apathy has been growing for a couple of years and it is just at his all time high right now. Is there anything at all that would change your mind this weekend other than a win.

00:18:22
Speaker 2: See, here's what I think. Said. I think they could win and go to a bowl and this number would still be the same. I don't think it would be one hundred, but I don't think it'd be ninety seven percent. But it would still be Ah So that's a problem. I want to note something here because this is I think is kind of cool. First of all, your birthday today, right.

00:18:38
Speaker 3: Miss Jennifer.

00:18:39
Speaker 2: Jennifer's birthday? How old are you? Forty nine? Happy birthday. Second, so we have a one of my friends here works next door. He's but he's helped us for a long time. He works at the Kilt next door. He had said you know, it was his parents' birthday and their cubs fans whatever. So I gave him tickets to Reds and Cups. He said he had a present for me to thank me. This is like an actual, amazingly thoughtful present, I thought, he who knew. I don't know what I thought he'd give me. But he got me a bag of stuff that is survival gear. He said he heard that I didn't know how that I didn't know how to do anything.

00:19:21
Speaker 4: Fair, which, by the way, is correct.

00:19:24
Speaker 2: And it has like a flashlight oka, it has like a radio, right, It has a survival bag. It has a book called Survival Handbook. It even has this thing which he said is like a filter system.

00:19:41
Speaker 4: So if I needed water, I could drink out of a lake and it would filter. Wow.

00:19:48
Speaker 3: Wow. So the apocalypse comes, you are ready.

00:19:51
Speaker 2: So I think because of CB, I could survive in something nice.

00:19:55
Speaker 4: I mean, I have to learn how to use all this stuff, but I have a book now. It's very thoughtful of CV.

00:20:01
Speaker 2: It's actually extremely thoughtful. And an Atlas.

00:20:07
Speaker 3: Oh wow, he knows how to get to your heart.

00:20:10
Speaker 4: You know how much I love Atlases, and they still make him it says twenty twenty six Newts six.

00:20:16
Speaker 2: So Mario, you've never been on atlas trip with me? As we travel the country in our southern southeastern part of the United States, I have an Atlas to help us get around.

00:20:28
Speaker 3: I'll never forget. I think we were in like New Mexico somewhere, and we didn't have good sell signals.

00:20:32
Speaker 2: And what were we able to do?

00:20:34
Speaker 3: You got your Atlas out of the back of the car, opened it up, and got us out of where we were going.

00:20:39
Speaker 2: I I love atlases because here's the thing about atlases. Don't let all these people poo poo atlases. It gives you a big perspective of where things are. See on your phone, you can only see like and you got a scan half scanning, and on this I can kind of look and go, oh, we could go this way, or we could go this way, drewe. It gives you a lot bigger picture as.

00:20:57
Speaker 4: To what's happening. Does the new one have trapped updates?

00:21:01
Speaker 2: Says we have traffic updates, but you know what traffic is up. But in survival mode, we're just trying to survive.

00:21:06
Speaker 4: Yeah, And traffic's subjective and we can pull over and drink out of the lake. Look, it's a water filter straw. Apparently if you drink.

00:21:16
Speaker 3: Out of this it filters out all the stuff I'm.

00:21:19
Speaker 2: Gonna have to read. But as I understand it, you just I can just go to the to the lake with a straw, start drinking, and all the bad stuff has gone.

00:21:28
Speaker 4: You're all set. Part of me does wonder does CB know that something's coming.

00:21:33
Speaker 2: Well, he's to a lot of those podcasts, so I'm sure that's uh, you know, that might be part of it. Brian Kelly gets fired at LSU, and now the last week has just been a not like stories trashing you. One player said he's the least likable person anyone has ever met. There's a story that came out that he knew he wasn't getting along well with the fans, so he went to an image consultant in DC to work on his image. Let me just say, if you're having trouble relating to people in Louisiana, don't go to d C. Go to somebody in Louisiana. There are all these turns out. When Kyraen Lacey died, he didn't even reach out to the family, which is probably a mistake. Like just all of this stuff with Brian Kelly, and now a lot of LSU fans they want John some raw. So now we have two big fan bases, Auburn and LSU that kind of want some row. Hard to see him turning both those down to come here.

00:22:32
Speaker 4: He's the betting favorite if you follow that, to have that job. But Kelly, that was just insane. He was braiding his coaches in the last game, knowing he was on camera, so it kind of intentionally puts it on them, gives them a little bit of an out.

00:22:44
Speaker 2: And then apparently the athletic director said, hey, we want you to make a change to play calling, and he just went no, and so then he got fired. Seems like not a fun Remember he had some stuff. It wasn't like he was innocent. There. We'll take a break, very bad. KSR. Water back of This is Kentucky Sports Radio eight from nine two twenty two eighty seven.

00:23:04
Speaker 4: Got big news. We're back to plastic straws.

00:23:06
Speaker 3: Yeah, breaking news.

00:23:08
Speaker 4: Yes, sorry to the turtles, I love you in theory, but.

00:23:13
Speaker 2: We're back to the plastic straws because we got rid of the paper the Texas game took them out and now we have plastic ones.

00:23:20
Speaker 4: I love turtles too, I wish them the best. But this is America and we drink from plastic.

00:23:24
Speaker 2: Were we do do that. One person writes Matt, I love you, but even with that survival kit, you'll still be one of the first ones to die in apocalypse. That's not very nice.

00:23:35
Speaker 3: We hold out small hope for you to survive.

00:23:39
Speaker 2: You don't need to. One person says, Matt. It's too bad. Survival kits could be buried under pickles and keys to the cities, never to be seen again.

00:23:47
Speaker 3: That's true.

00:23:49
Speaker 2: I'm getting a new car in the next few weeks. I think, Oh, I like the car that I have. With all that stuff, I might just leave it somewhere or just so I don't have to deal with it. You know me, Miles, that car has about weirdness do you like?

00:24:02
Speaker 4: Seriously? I think this is pretty amazing. Over two hundred thousand, two hundred and thirty eight thousand miles or on that leg, on that leg for how many two oil changes?

00:24:11
Speaker 2: I've increased the oil changes a little bit and that's the two Yeah, you're up to were up before.

00:24:17
Speaker 4: I don't know.

00:24:17
Speaker 2: I'm not sure. I don't It's been a lot of years, but too, I mean that you got to give the Lexus's credit to go two hundred and thirty eight thousand miles, not with elite caretaking.

00:24:28
Speaker 4: I can't. I will acknowledge is a pretty impressive feat. I think you should park it right next to the ultimobile in the backyard and let it be a music video in thirty years.

00:24:36
Speaker 2: Top about that that that car is in immaculate chape.

00:24:38
Speaker 4: But just start the start the museum.

00:24:40
Speaker 3: What were you saying? I remember you got that car when your previous car broke down on the Mountain Parkway going to that show in Babyville.

00:24:46
Speaker 4: Yeah, that was the Caatellog. It didn't last as well.

00:24:49
Speaker 2: The Lexus held up a lot better than the cat had a long time. If I'm nine twenty two eighty seven, who's up first?

00:24:55
Speaker 3: Got Richard up first?

00:24:56
Speaker 2: Richard? Go ahead?

00:24:57
Speaker 6: Richard only concerned Matt with getting rid of stooped because I'm afraid we will lose all these sophomorees and that seems to be the backbone of this team.

00:25:09
Speaker 2: You could, you could, Richard, but I would say I would say, yes, are there gonna be people on the team that you would lose if he leaves certainly. However, there're gonna be people that you'll lose even if he stays. And in the transfer portal era, replacing players is easier than it's ever been, you know, if somebody leaves.

00:25:34
Speaker 7: And my other thing is I'm looking to go forward to this basketball team. The last time we had this kind of muscle all the teams was and size and guard play was nineteen ninety five, I mean nineteen seventy five and nineteen ninety six. You see what happened with.

00:25:55
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, let's slow okay, let's let's slow down saying I mean, I I think you could say this is the deepest team. I do think, and I appreciate the call as good as I think this team's gonna be this year, and we do have a lot of guys. The difference between this team and even like twenty fifteen, twenty twelve, twenty ten, go ninety six whatever is I don't know that we have until we see what quaintance is. I don't know that we have like elite star power. I think we have a lot of great college players. I think this could be a team that's that is a version of say Drew of the two thousand and three team where Kentucky went eight or nine deep with a lot of really good players, but maybe no star, you know what I mean. I mean Keith Bogan's was what second team All American? Maybe that's a way, you know, something like that, but there wasn't. But I don't want to say this in ninety six. I mean we produced top pros in ninety six. Twenty fifteen is gonna have at least two Hall of Famers on that team, so that's a little different.

00:27:02
Speaker 4: I mean, Josha Hopkins asses on Monday, will anyone start in the NBA? Quaintans will leave aside because he could be be that, But otherwise I don't think anybody would when at least ninety six had several guys that had long NBA careers with a couple starters. Now, don't get it.

00:27:17
Speaker 2: This is a Final four level team.

00:27:19
Speaker 4: I mean, there are lots of people that are now putting this team as a final four team.

00:27:25
Speaker 2: I'm one of them. They're good enough to go to the Final four. But I also want everybody to slow down about the talent. You know, even though it made people mad all year last year, I said all year, there's no NBA players on this team, and right now there's.

00:27:40
Speaker 4: No NBA player Kobe Bray.

00:27:42
Speaker 2: I think he might be on the Suns roster, but he's not playing, and all the other guys are not in the NBA. Like that's we just need to know that. Now. This team I think has the NBA dudes. But I don't want to sit here and say this is like the twenty twenty. You know, ninety sixteen. It's not that. Yeah.

00:28:00
Speaker 3: Right, You've talked about your theory and I think you get you and Jay Billis said you gotta have three stars to win it.

00:28:06
Speaker 2: I think they have two. I think this My view is Jaalen Lowe and otego O Wayer stars, not NBA stars, but their college stars. If Quaintens gets here, he could be the third. If he doesn't, then I just want to see one of these other guys become the third Ryan. The good thing is, I think we have a lot of options for who that third guy could be.

00:28:26
Speaker 3: Who's the most likely candidate to step up?

00:28:29
Speaker 2: Okay, let's say Quaintin's didn't play, who would be the most likely candid You're gonna say Colin Chandler.

00:28:37
Speaker 4: I won't say Colin Chandler, just to not be repetitive over here. I still think there's a world where we have a Yellovich breakout. Oh you think he could be Yelloviant?

00:28:46
Speaker 3: Yep.

00:28:46
Speaker 4: Interesting. Now you would not have been one of my top choices. But okay, what about you.

00:28:51
Speaker 3: I fell in love with Denzel Aberdeen. He's a dog man. He's just gonna be our lockdown defender guy. And I think he could be maybe that third one of emerging.

00:29:01
Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know that. I think Quaintin's has got to be the third one.

00:29:05
Speaker 4: But I think you have a lot of like fourth ones, you know, like a diabate could be a fourth one. Yeah, depending what Jasper turns into. He goes, well, see, now, Jasper could be the third one.

00:29:17
Speaker 2: He's got that talent.

00:29:18
Speaker 4: We only have a very small sample size, but it was a fun sample all last Friday.

00:29:22
Speaker 2: But to me, when you're sitting there and going, okay, Cam Williams, you're the eleventh man and he's on and he's on NBA draft boards, then I'm not I just think it's a different kind of thing. It reminds me of three in the sense, you know, think about three. Eric Daniels, Jerald Fitch Chuck Hayes. I know Chuck played in the NBA, but he was kind of a role player for many years. Uh, Cliff Hawkins. Those that's the kind of guys I feel like we're loaded up on this year, do you agree?

00:29:52
Speaker 3: Yeah? Very just strong, smart basketball player that can go out and win you a lot of college games.

00:29:58
Speaker 4: Mark CUIs Estell was one of those.

00:30:00
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's how that's This team played so together against one game. I'm trying to remind myself. But we're gonna play tomorrow night. We play tomorrow night. Yeah, I mean we're playing tomorrow night against Georgetown. We're playing a good team tomorrow.

00:30:17
Speaker 4: I you know.

00:30:17
Speaker 3: And we didn't even shoot the ball very well then three We were a nine of twenty nine. I think that's another thing.

00:30:22
Speaker 2: Man, what if we start shooting the ball, Like, what if that nine of twenty nine was twelve or thirteen of twenty nine, which is like the percentage Pope wants to shoot. You add twelve points. We win that game by twenty three. I mean, you know, then you're starting to go how many news? I was homy you doing all night Friday? We keep naming individual players, but I was most impressed of just how advanced they were as a team on October whatever that was produce very experience. Have two of the best players in the country once againsts it's all American. One might even be on some preseason lists, and the way they were guarding them that you just don't see that or we have it in Lexington and a long time to be that far along in your system, both offense and defense, rotating it out pieces in mid October. And I've watched a lot of these other teams play their preseason games. I watched Duke Tennessee, I watched Louisville, Kansas, I watched a little bit of Arkansas, Memphis. These other teams look a lot more disjointed than we do. I mean, these other teams don't look I'm not saying they don't look good like Duke. Like Cameron Boozer looks like a star, you know, Darren Peterson looks like a star. Actually, Arkansas looked pretty good, but they didn't look like we did. Like we look better than all of them. Now, I know it's one game, I get it, but I'm not saying I'm just saying, who's up next? Super Dave is up there super Dave.

00:31:42
Speaker 5: How are you, hey, guys, Hope you all are doing well today, doing good. I got a couple of things that's great. I got a couple of things about football. The guy stoops over there on the sideline. If you watch him now, that guy that's that ref that's over there with him, I would demand double pay because he is wearing the referee.

00:32:08
Speaker 2: A dude, nobody. I mean, I mean, stoop stays on the referee. Now, part of that is they only show him stoops during the game when he's yelling at the referee, but he does give the referee an earfull.

00:32:21
Speaker 5: Yeah, And I mean it's just I mean I think he's more on the referee than he is into the game sometimes. And I mean I'm not saying all the time, but I mean I was. I was basically checked out last year. You know, I'm not a season ticket holder or anything, but I went to watching place South Carolina because I had that opportunity. I was real excited about it. And I mean they just laid an egg and I mean it just happened too much. And it's just it's just to a point where I mean I also heard that if he if he lasts through the year is boy out is only seventeen million.

00:32:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's not true. No, it goes down. I appreciate the call does go down. I want to say from thirty eight maybe to twenty nine or something, but it's not until what's what's the date I need to look, But it doesn't. It doesn't change the overall math a whole lot. Maybe it's thirty eight to thirty one. I can't remember, but it's not seventeen.

00:33:18
Speaker 4: And I figer at this point where numbers don't matter. You just can't if he doesn't turn it on, and I still know you can have any impressive wins at this point. It's it just needs to end.

00:33:28
Speaker 2: Well, I mean, if you're getting I mean from now on, I'll remember looking at that text machine because that's that is. I don't mean to just keep harping on it. But that was an amazing amount of votes. Overwhelming overwhelming for one thing. By the way, UK has put on sale Ryan for big spenders like you.

00:33:47
Speaker 4: Yeah, there are a handful of games this year where you can buy seats with your feet on the floor. The first four rows are for sale for a handful of games.

00:33:58
Speaker 2: They just went on sale this morning.

00:34:00
Speaker 3: Think you'd want that this year. You don't want to be a part of what this excitement that's building this basketball team.

00:34:05
Speaker 4: But I mean, you want to spend that kind of money.

00:34:07
Speaker 3: Well, you know, I don't think my dollar twenty five I got my wallet right now is going to cover that.

00:34:11
Speaker 4: But you won the bat the other day, so you could use that.

00:34:13
Speaker 3: That's sure. It did win nine dollars on DraftKings. Think you DraftKings or do?

00:34:17
Speaker 2: I wonder what that costs? What do you think it cost to sit the first four rows? But they're doing it for a handful. Normally you can't even buy those, so like it is kind of for people who could afford it a cool thing.

00:34:28
Speaker 4: I mean, yeah, you think it is. I guess it's not reselling. It's coming straight from UK, so they can't rob you too much, but it'll still be hot. I'll say, uh, fifteen hundred.

00:34:38
Speaker 3: That's exactly what I was going to say, exactly fifteen hundred.

00:34:41
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's higher than I would have thought.

00:34:43
Speaker 3: Sit down there by the hammer.

00:34:44
Speaker 4: I'm just thinking it's something like you said, you've never even been able to have access to buy No.

00:34:48
Speaker 2: They normally don't sell them. I don't know how they're doing it this year, but I guess they are. I guess when you got to raise money, you do it. Stop overpaying for sunglasses. It is wings day here at Ksbar and Grills, Kentucky Sports Radio. Welcome back at this Kentucky Sports Radio EF. I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five four. We're opening here in ten minutes. Come on out and join us. We've got let's talk for a second about Georgetown that we played tomorrow. What you know UK has not have we played Georgetown since eighty four is that the last time we played them.

00:35:44
Speaker 4: I was actually gonna work on my Georgetown history post today, but I can pull up the all time series.

00:35:49
Speaker 3: Can't remember a recent game since I've been around.

00:35:51
Speaker 4: Eighty four is a very painful game. More people a little bit older than me.

00:35:56
Speaker 2: I don't really remember it, but uh, eighty four we played in the final four in Seattle. What did we shoot in the second half? It was like some crazy low number.

00:36:04
Speaker 3: Three of twenty nine or something. I three of thirty three.

00:36:08
Speaker 4: Three of thirty three, and we ended up losing in Seattle, I believe, is that right?

00:36:12
Speaker 5: Yeah?

00:36:13
Speaker 3: I remember watching that game as a kid and just it became such a story that they had these wide open shots and the ball just would not go in the basket.

00:36:20
Speaker 4: It was against Patrick Ewing and all those guys.

00:36:23
Speaker 3: Right, James Blackman I know was on that Kentucky team and he did because he was from Indiana. Was watching him and he just could They just couldn't score man Kinny Walker.

00:36:30
Speaker 4: Sam Booi had ten points. That was the leading score. It's not strong in a tournament game. But I don't think we've played them since then. We've played them twice. That game and in nineteen twenty two he was lost twenty eight twenty three. So we've never beaten Georgetown ever. Oh and twuy never beaten Georgetown. I mean Basil Hayden scored scored eight in that game. Basil Hayden, Yeah, like the Bourbons. Yep, he had eight points.

00:36:55
Speaker 3: He's Kentucky's first All American.

00:36:56
Speaker 4: But Johnny Flavin, man, he was on fire for Georgetown. It's hard to stop Johnny Flavor at Ryan Gymnasium wherever.

00:37:04
Speaker 2: That is, all right, So what would you say? Five most famous Georgetown players? Ewing Mourning, Iverson, Othella Harrington.

00:37:14
Speaker 3: Goodwin and grand Brown. Reggie Lewis.

00:37:18
Speaker 4: Who's the guy Lewis played there?

00:37:20
Speaker 2: No, he was Providence.

00:37:21
Speaker 3: He's Providence, I think so.

00:37:24
Speaker 2: Now Fred Brown was the guy that threw the ball to the to the North Carolina player where they lost ends up crying in John Thompson's Uh.

00:37:32
Speaker 4: They just had a high drivet pick like in the last ten years.

00:37:34
Speaker 2: Have they? Yeah?

00:37:35
Speaker 4: I was gonna Sado Porter Porter Okay, but I.

00:37:39
Speaker 2: Mean not too many schools have you in morning Iverson. That's a pretty big that's a pretty good group. They're cool.

00:37:46
Speaker 4: Tumbo.

00:37:47
Speaker 2: How did I forget my Tumbo? Yeah? That's I mean, that's that's a big mount Rushmore it is. Those four would be a heck of a mount Rushmore and for.

00:37:55
Speaker 4: The longest time they were kind of the coolest school at Auverson helped with that. They were the long George.

00:38:00
Speaker 2: George I mean, I mean they were.

00:38:02
Speaker 4: Yeah, they're like a villain team, but they had a little bit of swag.

00:38:05
Speaker 2: You get old UK fans, some of whom probably passed, and you were to say, who do you hate? Like Georgetown John Thompson. They just think with his towel. People just did not did not like them. But I was a big John Thompson fan. I like John Thompson.

00:38:21
Speaker 4: They have not been good in a long long time. They're missing all their seven footers and keep going Roy Hibbert. Yeah, they're just full of centers.

00:38:31
Speaker 2: So their coach now is Ed Cooley. They spent a lot of money to bring him from Providence. He hasn't had a lot of success. What are you looking for tomorrow?

00:38:40
Speaker 4: Right?

00:38:40
Speaker 2: I mean, I uh, Mark Pope says, we're playing to win, but we also want to get some stuff ready for the season. The season starts next week, like for real, I don't know if I mean, I I don't think I process that the season starts next week.

00:38:54
Speaker 4: We're now less than week away because it's Tuesday.

00:38:55
Speaker 3: Right, yeah, Tuesday, Tuesday. I just want to see him and just piggyback what we saw against do probably shoot malt like seeing maybe shoot the ball a little bit. If there's something i'd want him.

00:39:03
Speaker 4: Is there anybody you'd like to see play? I play a little better? I'd like to see. I'd like to see a little more from Cam Williams.

00:39:09
Speaker 2: That's probably That's probably my thing that I'd like to see a little more, because really in everything I've seen, he hasn't been.

00:39:16
Speaker 4: He wasn't great at the Pro Day, wasn't great in the Blue White, wasn't great. And I want to see him do what I think I hope he can do. I agree, he's the one I've wondered about since he since the summer. When you're hearing practice, his name didn't come up much, a lot of potential, And then I think even asked who I'm watching the Blue White game, he was my answer. It's just so far been a very quiet first debut few weeks for him, but we know he has it. We just need him to turn it on.

00:39:40
Speaker 3: I think in the front court, i'd like to see Brandon Garrison play better. You know, Malachi kind of really.

00:39:45
Speaker 4: Yeah.

00:39:45
Speaker 2: I mean, Brandon Garrison's been interesting because he's another one that really we haven't talked a lot about me, whether it was pro day or Brandon Garrison's kind of been really quiet. But he's still starting, so I i'd want I want to see him too as well.

00:40:00
Speaker 4: He had a moment against Purdue. I was sitting in the end zone facing him. I could see his eyes and he was dialing up BG time. Remember he brought it up the court. He almost took a three in transition, but you could just tell he wanted he wanted to remember. I don't know if other people like this. Every time he brings it up.

00:40:16
Speaker 2: To court, I'm like, give it up, give it up, give it give it up, fast, fast, fast fast. But I could see it.

00:40:22
Speaker 4: He thought he thought he was on the N one tour.

00:40:25
Speaker 2: I really am. I'm I'm I'm very much asking him to pass.

00:40:28
Speaker 3: What about you?

00:40:30
Speaker 2: Well, for me, it's King Williams. But I also you know, I just I have to tell you. I just enjoy watching them period. I just think they're fun to watch. They're exciting, you know. I'm excited to be here for the basketball pregame show. I wasn't here for Purdue, So I'm excited to be around fans in a basketball environment. This is gonna be a fun year. This is going to be fun, Like, this is gonna be the most fun basketball years.

00:40:57
Speaker 4: You know.

00:40:57
Speaker 2: The Dillingham Read had moments it's fun, but there was a lot of like why are we losing these games? But then besides that, we really haven't had a lot of fun, like just pure fun since before.

00:41:11
Speaker 4: I mean since before. COVID Leicester was fun, but you knew there was a ceiling, right and you got to SEC and start taking some some losses.

00:41:20
Speaker 2: This is gonna be fun this year. This is gonna be fun, exciting every game people. I think it's gonna build all year. I think it's gonna build and all year. People can get more and more excited as the year goes on, and I'm already thinking about the SEC Tournament, like it's gonna be this is gonna be a blast. So I just want to enjoy it while it's going on because I think it's gonna be. I think it's gonna be a great year. I think it's gonna be a big few months, by the way, just for Kentucky fans, because we have a coaching search. You know, people get into that December. December is gonna be one of the more exciting Decembers if you look at who we play and what's gonna be going on with football, Like this is gonna be an exciting December coming up.

00:42:03
Speaker 4: We're less than two weeks from the Louisville game.

00:42:06
Speaker 2: That's crazy.

00:42:06
Speaker 3: Wow, Louisville.

00:42:07
Speaker 4: I don't love it in that spot, but it's here. Two weeks, thirteen days.

00:42:11
Speaker 2: Awe. We'll take a break, come back, have number two Kentucky Sports Radio
