<v Speaker 1>Don't be bad. It's the Internet. You're busy. Let's do
<v Speaker 1>this for September twenty fifth, twenty twenty four. For the
<v Speaker 1>next hour or so, let me help you sort through
<v Speaker 1>the world of gaming on Game Mess Mornings Live with
<v Speaker 1>me Jeff Grubb. Today, the state of play happened, and
<v Speaker 1>Sony actually announced some games this time. But first please
<v Speaker 1>join me and welcoming today's co host to Game Mess Mornings.
<v Speaker 1>It's Tom Caswell. Tom, how are you doing.
<v Speaker 2>I'm doing great. Excited to finally see some fusz body.
<v Speaker 1>Came a couple of years, but we got there.
<v Speaker 2>We're getting that, We're getting there.
<v Speaker 1>That's unfair. Astrobot obviously bigger deal to me than anything
<v Speaker 1>they could have announced, so bye.
<v Speaker 2>That's true.
<v Speaker 1>But hey, they it's like these big studios that we've
<v Speaker 1>kind of been waiting for them to do their follow up.
<v Speaker 1>This feels like the first in a series of what
<v Speaker 1>should be several years of pretty big announcements. But yeah, yes,
<v Speaker 1>we'll get into all that pretty soon. How you've been otherwise.
<v Speaker 2>Doing good, playing some games, getting stuck in with Astrobot,
<v Speaker 2>spent a lot of time. I probably like ninety five
<v Speaker 2>percent of the way to doing everything in that game. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>so I've been enjoying that a lot. Still doing the
<v Speaker 2>Destiny to Grind. So I've been doing that and honestly
<v Speaker 2>actually the Fortnight Grind as well. Get my dailies in
<v Speaker 2>every day, yeah, just because you know, it's Marvel season
<v Speaker 2>so and lots of good skins, like there's a mysterious
<v Speaker 2>skin that I just got on the battle Pass. So yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I've been playing a lot of life service stuff, which
<v Speaker 2>is you know, clearly my my behaviors have changed over
<v Speaker 2>the years, but yeah, it's been it's been a fun
<v Speaker 2>gaming time.
<v Speaker 1>Well look at those games are surely give me plenty
<v Speaker 1>to do. Yeah, the I I haven't ever really fallen
<v Speaker 1>to the daily sort of thing with the with any
<v Speaker 1>of these games. Uh, it's it's I was like, I
<v Speaker 1>definitely consider that, but by the time, like a lot
<v Speaker 1>of those games were the kind of games that were
<v Speaker 1>that was interested and we're doing that, I was just
<v Speaker 1>too busy with life to be able to make that,
<v Speaker 1>makes sense, and it was very easy to start putting
<v Speaker 1>that stuff aside.
<v Speaker 2>Uh, it's.
<v Speaker 1>Go ahead.
<v Speaker 2>Well, it's the appeal is is that you can do
<v Speaker 2>the dailies pretty like Fortnite is good because it's the
<v Speaker 2>you can like get one match in and if you're
<v Speaker 2>specifically targeting the daily challenges, like you can potentially get
<v Speaker 2>them all done in just like one match. So it's
<v Speaker 2>relatively quick and it's a big boost for like your
<v Speaker 2>XP for the Battle Pass. So I'm almost done the
<v Speaker 2>Battle Pass with like a month still to spat on it,
<v Speaker 2>and it's mainly just been from doing daily Sometimes I
<v Speaker 2>play for a bit longer, but yeah, it's just been like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>it's been a great excuse because I like how the
<v Speaker 2>game plays. I really think that Fortnite has feels fantastic
<v Speaker 2>to appreciate and which was not the case when it
<v Speaker 2>first launched, and so it just it just gives me,
<v Speaker 2>like it scratches that itch of like third person shoot
<v Speaker 2>a like competitive thing. So I'm always like, oh, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I've got to do my dailies. Like let me get
<v Speaker 2>in like twenty minutes of Fortnite and then I'm done.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, it's I think I think some games don't
<v Speaker 2>do it as well, but I think that's one game
<v Speaker 2>that doesn't work pretty well.
<v Speaker 1>And I'm sure they've dattled it in over there. Uh,
<v Speaker 1>let's explain what we do here most weekday's I Jeff
<v Speaker 1>Grub will help piece your gaming life back together. That
<v Speaker 1>includes breaking news and maybe even some of our own
<v Speaker 1>original reporting. For all these topics, I'll get the input
<v Speaker 1>of a bona fide expert who will make me look smart.
<v Speaker 1>If you are watching live on twitch welcome. You can
<v Speaker 1>always listen to the show later on podcast feeds by
<v Speaker 1>searching for game Mas Mornings, or find the RSS on
<v Speaker 1>giant bomb dot com. We can. You can also catch
<v Speaker 1>the show later with chapters and timestamps on YouTube. Hello YouTube.
<v Speaker 1>All right, we have a lot to get into, so
<v Speaker 1>let's start the morning mess with every big announcement from
<v Speaker 1>PlayStation's New State of Play. This is from Michael mcworder
<v Speaker 1>at Polygon. Of course, Sony's latest State of Play live
<v Speaker 1>stream was full of game announcements and updates for all
<v Speaker 1>thanks PlayStation five and even PlayStation VR two. PlayStation Van's
<v Speaker 1>got a look at multiple new remasters, including updated versions
<v Speaker 1>of Horizon Zero Down and a pair of Soul Reaver games.
<v Speaker 1>And there was a new content in there too, including
<v Speaker 1>a sequel to Ghost of Sushima and lots of DLC
<v Speaker 1>for already released PlayStation favorites. Let's start off with that.
<v Speaker 1>The biggest one that did cap off the show, Ghost
<v Speaker 1>of Yota from Insomniac No wait, I'm sorry, Sucker Punch
<v Speaker 1>from Sucker Punch, Yeah got. I always complete those two
<v Speaker 1>studios in my head. Yeah. From Sucker Punch follow up
<v Speaker 1>to Ghost of Sushimo. Obviously, Yes, it looked really good.
<v Speaker 1>It looked you know. Obviously, Ghost Ssushima is a very
<v Speaker 1>very pretty looking game. This even more pretty, and it
<v Speaker 1>seems like they're going to do a lot of extra
<v Speaker 1>fun stuff in here. The game takes place hundreds of
<v Speaker 1>years later in a very different Japan. I'm excited to
<v Speaker 1>see what they do with it. Even if someone who
<v Speaker 1>never fully got on Ghost of Sushima's wavelength. When I
<v Speaker 1>was playing it, I was always enjoying myself. It was
<v Speaker 1>never like, oh this is a bad time, just not
<v Speaker 1>in the mood for it either of the times. I
<v Speaker 1>really give it a chance. How about you, I am?
<v Speaker 2>This is probably my most anticipated Sony first party title
<v Speaker 2>at this point. I loved Ghost of Sushima. It is
<v Speaker 2>the one. It is one of the few, i'll say,
<v Speaker 2>big kind of open world upg games that I have
<v Speaker 2>continued to plug away at over the years. I still
<v Speaker 2>pick it up every couple of months because it is
<v Speaker 2>so beautiful, because I think it's so compelling to be
<v Speaker 2>in that world that when I started it, I was like,
<v Speaker 2>I'm going to do everything in this game, Like I'm
<v Speaker 2>going to do all the outpost wists and all the
<v Speaker 2>little puzzles and all this stuff. And so it's I mean,
<v Speaker 2>it's been four years of me kind of chipping away
<v Speaker 2>at it. I am toward the end of the game now,
<v Speaker 2>but now I have kind of a deadline, I guess,
<v Speaker 2>or a rough deadline of next year to get the
<v Speaker 2>game finished before this next one. Yeah, because it is
<v Speaker 2>just one of the most I mean, it's still one
<v Speaker 2>of the most beautiful games ever made. I think it
<v Speaker 2>is kind of unparalleled in many ways, and this one
<v Speaker 2>looks too enhance that What I found interesting is that actually,
<v Speaker 2>you know, they have little caption at the beginning of
<v Speaker 2>each trailer saying, you know, captured on and it said
<v Speaker 2>captured on PS five and not PS five pro. So
<v Speaker 2>I mean, you made a very.
<v Speaker 1>Good looking game on PS four. They are not going
<v Speaker 1>to struggle with PS five, and they'll be able to
<v Speaker 1>do with PS five pro. It's just interesting because I
<v Speaker 1>remember when the PS four Pro was announced. Pretty much
<v Speaker 1>every time after that we saw a PlayStation game, it
<v Speaker 1>would say PS four Pro because the PS four and
<v Speaker 1>especially the Xbox One. But no, the PS four you've
<v Speaker 1>been the very poor consoles actually all things could say,
<v Speaker 1>like in terms of their abilities, you needed the PS
<v Speaker 1>four of pro pretty bad at that time, So yeah,
<v Speaker 1>that makes sense. Yeah, five definitely still good enough for
<v Speaker 1>a lot of these games. Uh, and for a game
<v Speaker 1>that is so driven by its visual style and its art. Uh,
<v Speaker 1>you could show off Ghost of Yota on the PS
<v Speaker 1>five without any issues, I bet, And then you know
<v Speaker 1>clearly there weren't. No, there are no complaints speakin of complaints.
<v Speaker 1>It starts a woman, a new ghost names at Sue.
<v Speaker 1>That's a uh, yeah, Sue she is, Uh, I don't know,
<v Speaker 1>looks pretty tough, pretty cool, I am. I'm excited about
<v Speaker 1>that as well. I bet the complaints actually won't even
<v Speaker 1>be that bad because I think people won this game
<v Speaker 1>so badly that they're like, hey, let's whatever, give me this.
<v Speaker 1>But again, like I said, I'm excited. Uh, what do
<v Speaker 1>you think they're they're setting up here for for a
<v Speaker 1>story will be very similar with they did last time?
<v Speaker 1>Do you think they'll take some risks on that side
<v Speaker 1>of things.
<v Speaker 2>I think it'll actually be very different, especially not only
<v Speaker 2>because we're jumping three hundred years into the future. You know,
<v Speaker 2>we see at the very end Atsu wielding a rifle,
<v Speaker 2>so that you know, we're technology has advanced in many
<v Speaker 2>ways and has become more bohemian, you know, like and
<v Speaker 2>you know, the interesting thing about Atsu that we've been teased.
<v Speaker 2>New York Times actually had a piece go out. They
<v Speaker 2>got kind of an inside look at the game, and
<v Speaker 2>they describe Suger Punch describes it as an underdog revenge story. Now,
<v Speaker 2>of of course Sushima, which featured Gin, was a revenge
<v Speaker 2>tale as well. But the interesting thing there is Jin
<v Speaker 2>came from a renowned clan. He came from wealth, he
<v Speaker 2>came from you know, and obviously, like at the beginning
<v Speaker 2>of the game, he kind of loses all of that,
<v Speaker 2>but he still has resources and connections that help him
<v Speaker 2>move through the game and get him from point A
<v Speaker 2>to point be as he kind of wages this war
<v Speaker 2>against the Mongol army. It seems like from what we're
<v Speaker 2>hearing and what we're honestly seeing from Artsukause, a lot
<v Speaker 2>of her like her straw hat is damaged. I think
<v Speaker 2>she's going to come from not that kind of background.
<v Speaker 2>I think it is going to be we're actually going
<v Speaker 2>to be posting this is a great plug later today,
<v Speaker 2>me and Davante, who is one of game spots other
<v Speaker 2>video producers, we're going to do a breakdown of the trailer.
<v Speaker 2>There's lots of interesting details in there, and obviously we
<v Speaker 2>know the time period and where it happens. It's a
<v Speaker 2>very interesting time in Japan. But the Yeah, I think
<v Speaker 2>that we're going to get a very different story. It's
<v Speaker 2>going to allow for maybe different gameplay options. Yeah, there's
<v Speaker 2>a lot I think. I think it will enhance and
<v Speaker 2>build upon what was built in Sushima, but I think
<v Speaker 2>it's going to have a number of surprises gameplay wise
<v Speaker 2>for us.
<v Speaker 1>Of course, there is also Astrobot dl SE talked about.
<v Speaker 1>Of course, the game came out recently. They have said
<v Speaker 1>they told me in person when I was at Summer
<v Speaker 1>Game Fest. Yeah, we'll have speed run levels coming later.
<v Speaker 1>We didn't get exact date for when that later is,
<v Speaker 1>but they did confirm before the end of the year
<v Speaker 1>fall the fall period, so it could be you know,
<v Speaker 1>like a week from now, could be about a month
<v Speaker 1>from now. I expect it pretty soon, though, and I
<v Speaker 1>was glad. I was just kind of glad to see
<v Speaker 1>Astrobot in the in the state of play as, like, Hey, no,
<v Speaker 1>this is a big deal and we have more content
<v Speaker 1>coming your way. That was exciting to see. I think
<v Speaker 1>they're feeling pretty good about about where Astrobot is, and
<v Speaker 1>the levels looked new like they are they they take
<v Speaker 1>chunks from some of the other levels in terms of
<v Speaker 1>like the kinds of mechanics you're engaging with, but looks
<v Speaker 1>like they are piecing them together into new obstacle courses
<v Speaker 1>or abby's as the roadblocks kids call them. I believe,
<v Speaker 1>yeah that I was excited about that. Did you you
<v Speaker 1>in the mood for some speed running in Astrobot?
<v Speaker 2>Absolutely? I was missing it in the base game. For
<v Speaker 2>as great as the base game is and how much
<v Speaker 2>I love it, I loved the speed running of Playroom,
<v Speaker 2>and obviously knew it was going to come down the line,
<v Speaker 2>but I'm glad it's coming sooner rather than later. Can't
<v Speaker 2>wait to smoke you in the time trials there that Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I mean you are, I mean I was. I saw
<v Speaker 2>your times in Playroom. It was definitely definitely a challenge
<v Speaker 2>that stuff. Yeah, I mean, you know, I think that
<v Speaker 2>I think that what they're doing with Astrobot is really smart,
<v Speaker 2>and I think that compared to what they're trying to
<v Speaker 2>pull off with their live service stuff, is a great alternative.
<v Speaker 2>I think, you know, have a full priced game that
<v Speaker 2>is the bass version is fantastic, but keep supporting it
<v Speaker 2>to incentivize people to pick it up. And you know,
<v Speaker 2>there's a ton of stuff that Tima Sobey can do
<v Speaker 2>with this game, you know, just simply adding more levels,
<v Speaker 2>had more thoughts to find, you know that clearly making
<v Speaker 2>that you know a t you know, like oh, which
<v Speaker 2>character is going to show up?
<v Speaker 1>Right?
<v Speaker 2>So I think I think they're playing it really smart
<v Speaker 2>and hopefully, and I mean clearly as you said, Sony,
<v Speaker 2>it seems to be very happy with that game, and
<v Speaker 2>so hopefully it just means more initiatives I guess like
<v Speaker 2>that in the future.
<v Speaker 1>Then we got a little bit from Horizon Horizon zero
<v Speaker 1>Don remastered. It is coming October thirty first, and if
<v Speaker 1>you already own it, you can get the upgraded version
<v Speaker 1>for ten dollars. And now they are able to also
<v Speaker 1>put a new version out on shelves that says PS
<v Speaker 1>five and remastered and all that stuff. So they are
<v Speaker 1>still playing on a TV show. I think, who knows
<v Speaker 1>that ever actually comes out? Yeah, I know, but they
<v Speaker 1>want to have a game there just in case. And
<v Speaker 1>obviously Horizon is one of their big tent poles now
<v Speaker 1>and their opinion and their estimation, and so having the
<v Speaker 1>first game that isn't all that old but has now
<v Speaker 1>in its best version ever knew on the shelf that'll
<v Speaker 1>help them kind of keep that thing very relevant going forward.
<v Speaker 1>And then the other side of keeping it relevant, Lego
<v Speaker 1>Horizon Adventures. We got to see a little bit more
<v Speaker 1>of that. I played this summer game fest. I continue
<v Speaker 1>to continue to think it looks really fun they I'm
<v Speaker 1>a big fan of the Star Wars, the Lego Star
<v Speaker 1>Wars humor, but Lego humor, the way they adapt things
<v Speaker 1>and those Lego Star Wars TV shows, some of the
<v Speaker 1>specials as well, but especially the TV shows that they
<v Speaker 1>did kind of in between time really really funny. They
<v Speaker 1>have a really good sense of humor, and a lot
<v Speaker 1>of that is happening here as well. And it turns
<v Speaker 1>out like that kind of serious story of Horizon pretty
<v Speaker 1>ripe for ribbing with that where you know, something tragic
<v Speaker 1>is getting referenced, but they're doing it in a fun
<v Speaker 1>way and and in a way that makes it feel like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>they know how how kind of serious they take themselves.
<v Speaker 1>And now the fact that they're couching it in all
<v Speaker 1>this nonsense makes it a good time. So, yeah, I
<v Speaker 1>don't know, what did you think of the remaster and
<v Speaker 1>Lego Horizon and Adventures?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean the remaster, You know, I think that
<v Speaker 2>it's tough with it, right, Like I think I always
<v Speaker 2>just come back to Last of Us, the first one
<v Speaker 2>when it got remastered for PS four, which made a
<v Speaker 2>ton of sense. I think because the PS four you know,
<v Speaker 2>that game came right at the end of the PS
<v Speaker 2>three life cycle, and so you know, I don't necessarily
<v Speaker 2>fault them for thinking like, oh, let's do another zero
<v Speaker 2>Don remaster. And clearly they're trying to do, as you said,
<v Speaker 2>this thing where they're trying to make these franchises just
<v Speaker 2>have constant content, whether it's remasters, spinoffs, TV shows, movies,
<v Speaker 2>you know. The New York Times interview goes into that
<v Speaker 2>about Ghosts of Sushimoe, which is getting a movie adaptation
<v Speaker 2>from uh, Chad Stahelski who did John Wick. So they're
<v Speaker 2>really it makes sense for their business, I think, and
<v Speaker 2>I think people will pick it up. And the fact
<v Speaker 2>that this tend to upgrade, Like I might put the
<v Speaker 2>ten dollars down to upgrade my PS four version of
<v Speaker 2>that game, although I think I have it on disc
<v Speaker 2>and I don't know where that is, so it.
<v Speaker 1>Should maybe yeah, yeah, but I don't know where the
<v Speaker 1>I don't know what is screwed up there. I occasionally
<v Speaker 1>run across my disc of that because I think they
<v Speaker 1>were sending that as a disc for review, and I
<v Speaker 1>stumble across that like every couple of in that era,
<v Speaker 1>So I think that's what.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, so yeah, and I think I think also, you know,
<v Speaker 2>PlayStation clearly has a desire to create visual parody across
<v Speaker 2>its franchises. That's why they keep doing upgrades for Last
<v Speaker 2>of Us, right, They just want the franchise to feel cohesive. Uh,
<v Speaker 2>And when new people are coming to it, they're not
<v Speaker 2>having to think, Okay, well I need the PS four
<v Speaker 2>version of Zero Dawn, and then I need and then
<v Speaker 2>there's the PS five version. Like they clearly are trying
<v Speaker 2>to expand their business to more laymans. And more casual
<v Speaker 2>gamers and people that might not even be gamers who
<v Speaker 2>are going to come see these TV shows, spinoffs, whatever.
<v Speaker 2>Play Lego Horizon Adventures on Switch and be like I
<v Speaker 2>loved that. Where can I play the main game?
<v Speaker 1>Okay?
<v Speaker 2>PS five, Okay, Boom Zero Dawn remaster Forbin and West.
<v Speaker 2>Those are the two games. They look the same, they play,
<v Speaker 2>they play very similar. Not that those two games had
<v Speaker 2>a ton of In fact, my biggest critique about Forbin
<v Speaker 2>and West is that it didn't innovate on Zero Dawn
<v Speaker 2>enough beyond what that game was doing. So it's not
<v Speaker 2>like there was a big separation, but they just want
<v Speaker 2>parody across their big Temple franchises and so from a
<v Speaker 2>business standpoint, and it probably doesn't you know, I'm assuming
<v Speaker 2>it probably didn't cost a ton of money, right rec game.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah for sure. Yeah, rising's clearly going to continue to
<v Speaker 1>be a main thrust for PlayStation studios and yeah, and
<v Speaker 1>that's gonna work. I think it's earned it at this point.
<v Speaker 1>All Right, I'm gonna pick up the pace. Still plenty
<v Speaker 1>of games here. Monster Hunter Wilds did get its release
<v Speaker 1>date February twenty eighth, twenty twenty five. Continues to look fantastic.
<v Speaker 1>Dynasty Warriors Origins also got its release date. It is
<v Speaker 1>coming January seventeenth, twenty twenty five. Yes, and it's coming
<v Speaker 1>to PS five. Yeah, that's right there. Oh, it should
<v Speaker 1>also be coming to PC and Xbox Series X as well.
<v Speaker 1>The Midnight Walk, which was sort of a stop motion
<v Speaker 1>clamation looking thing, looked very good from the people that
<v Speaker 1>made Lost in Random. It's coming to PS five and
<v Speaker 1>PSVR two in spring of twenty twenty five. Hell is
<v Speaker 1>Us our first look at gameplay footage from this game.
<v Speaker 1>It is coming to PS five and twenty twenty five.
<v Speaker 1>It's a dark action adventure game set in a war
<v Speaker 1>torn country. Power World is now on PS five in
<v Speaker 1>most places. It's not available in Japan actually because because
<v Speaker 1>of the lawsuit there. We'll talk maybe a little bit
<v Speaker 1>more about that. Alan Wake to the Lake House looked
<v Speaker 1>very good for a really good look at this.
<v Speaker 2>Would you think I'm so stoked? I love Remedy one
<v Speaker 2>of my now one of my favorite videos. I am
<v Speaker 2>highly anticipating what that putting out next to control to
<v Speaker 2>all of that, to see the Alan weak to DLC
<v Speaker 2>kind of be the invest of what one of the
<v Speaker 2>controlled DLCs was where it was you had control and
<v Speaker 2>then I had an Alan week spin off. This seems
<v Speaker 2>to be the Control DLC for Alan Week two. So
<v Speaker 2>this is exactly what I want and I cann't wait
<v Speaker 2>to play it.
<v Speaker 1>U all right, Yeah, and that's coming October. They didn't
<v Speaker 1>give an exact date though, so October we'll see here
<v Speaker 1>pretty soon. They will probably have their own time to
<v Speaker 1>talk about the exact date, probably mid to late October though,
<v Speaker 1>if they're not talking about it quite yet. The last
<v Speaker 1>was Part one is now on PS plus Legacy of Kane.
<v Speaker 1>I think led Omen is also on there. Then Legacy
<v Speaker 1>of Kine Soulary for one and two remastered got confirmed. Finally,
<v Speaker 1>this is from Crystal Dynamics and Aspire Legacy of Kane.
<v Speaker 1>Uh it is. It looks really good. It is coming
<v Speaker 1>in December, Yes, in December. No mention of Working Designs,
<v Speaker 1>which is one of the teams that did also work
<v Speaker 1>on this, but they I think they did a lot
<v Speaker 1>of the the writing and the voice acting, so they
<v Speaker 1>might be re recording that stuff, so could could be
<v Speaker 1>could feel like a pretty new game for a lot
<v Speaker 1>of people. Yeah, I'll be ready to see more about that.
<v Speaker 1>Stellar Blade.
<v Speaker 2>I know about legacy of kine as time on, shut
<v Speaker 2>up about it.
<v Speaker 1>That is definitely what we all know at this point. Uh,
<v Speaker 1>we're getting more Stellar Blade, a new photo mode, and
<v Speaker 1>they confirmed DLC for the game and a PC port.
<v Speaker 1>It will be all will also be coming. They are
<v Speaker 1>also including to be from near Automata. Yes, so of
<v Speaker 1>course they are. They have been that those two were
<v Speaker 1>Yokotaro and the people responsible Stellar Blade. We're kind of
<v Speaker 1>having bromance before the game came out, so not surprised
<v Speaker 1>also to be I think Marino mentioned it has been
<v Speaker 1>in something like nineteen games or something like that. It's
<v Speaker 1>kind of wild out there. Lunar Yeah, Lunar Remastered Collection
<v Speaker 1>Classic role playing Games, Lunar Silver Store, Silver Star Story Complete,
<v Speaker 1>and Lunar two Eternal Blue Complete are coming to PlayStation
<v Speaker 1>with enhanced graphics, audio and quality quality of life improvements.
<v Speaker 1>That's happening in spring. Classic JRPG franchise. A line of
<v Speaker 1>a lot of friends who are big fans of this series,
<v Speaker 1>and then now a lot of people are going to
<v Speaker 1>get a chance to play it. The anime cut scenes
<v Speaker 1>that were kind of a big deal on Sega CD.
<v Speaker 1>There they've even like improved those and those look kind
<v Speaker 1>of modern as well. It's pretty impressive. Teenage Mutant Ninja, Turtles,
<v Speaker 1>Shredder's Revenge, more DLC coming for that, and then Metro
<v Speaker 1>Awakening is a PSVR two game coming November seventh. Are
<v Speaker 1>you surprised that they still are showing off games for
<v Speaker 1>PSVR two or is it kind of like, well, they
<v Speaker 1>gotta no.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean it's it's a catch twenty two with
<v Speaker 2>the PSVR two because so many they probably these games
<v Speaker 2>have probably been development since before the PSVR two was released,
<v Speaker 2>so they've got to keep showing games that people are
<v Speaker 2>making for the platform. I think in a couple of
<v Speaker 2>years we probably won't hear nearly as much, even though
<v Speaker 2>we're not even hearing that much right now about PSVR two.
<v Speaker 2>But you know, I'm sure this Metro Awakening game has
<v Speaker 2>been in development for a little bit, and so they've
<v Speaker 2>got to keep marketing them. I will say the games
<v Speaker 2>that they showed off for PSVR two in this state
<v Speaker 2>of play were some of the more interesting ones that
<v Speaker 2>made me think, Okay, I actually play PSVR two a lot.
<v Speaker 2>But for one game, it's called walk About Mini Golf.
<v Speaker 2>It is phenomenal. It is the killer app. I think
<v Speaker 2>we've talked about it before, but I don't pick it
<v Speaker 2>up other than that. So but I want to try
<v Speaker 2>that Midnight Walk in va off for sure, and the
<v Speaker 2>metro game looks really, really good. So I think that
<v Speaker 2>this was probably their best showing of PSVL two games,
<v Speaker 2>despite where that hardware might be in terms of the
<v Speaker 2>minds of the people. But yeah, I think in a
<v Speaker 2>couple of years, once, once we're out of the initial
<v Speaker 2>wave of developed games, we're not going to hear about it, right.
<v Speaker 1>I think you're right that a lot of these feel
<v Speaker 1>like projects that got started alongside the PSR two And
<v Speaker 1>the reason it feels like it's like trickling and slowly
<v Speaker 1>waning is there are fewer and fewer of those projects
<v Speaker 1>going forward real quick. Sean linked me to this from
<v Speaker 1>the Near Game Twitter account. It is them quote tweeting
<v Speaker 1>the announcement of the Stellar Blake Cross Near Automata project,
<v Speaker 1>and they said we will gladly say yes to anything
<v Speaker 1>for money, which just.
<v Speaker 2>Rules very I mean, I will do that as well. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>of course I'm.
<v Speaker 1>Glad, But it's like none of this bullshit of like
<v Speaker 1>we just love partnering with our friends in the game,
<v Speaker 1>can now give us some money. Cut that Chims, as
<v Speaker 1>a poet would want to say, Fantasian neo dimension fantasyation.
<v Speaker 1>Of course. Miss Walker's very cool looking role playing game
<v Speaker 1>is Breaking Free of its Apple Arcade confines, coming to
<v Speaker 1>PS four and PS five on December fifth. Continue So
<v Speaker 1>this is the one that had the like model backdrops,
<v Speaker 1>right they like?
<v Speaker 2>Yes, such a cool idea. It's a good game. It's
<v Speaker 2>a It's actually a very good game. It was one
<v Speaker 2>of the launch touched Apple Arcade. I played. I played
<v Speaker 2>a ton of pot one and they actually released it
<v Speaker 2>in two parts. This is the complete story, complete game.
<v Speaker 2>It's an excellent game. It is very much built for touch,
<v Speaker 2>so I am curious as to see how it is
<v Speaker 2>implemented in for consoles and stuff. But I mean, I
<v Speaker 2>would recommend, honestly, if you want to play it, the
<v Speaker 2>ideal way might honestly still be your phone because of
<v Speaker 2>how mobile for what the game is. But yeah, definitely
<v Speaker 2>if you're if you're even casually interested in this is
<v Speaker 2>definitely keeping on your radar. It's a very very cool game.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I bet that you know all these games. I
<v Speaker 1>think they make with the thought in the back of
<v Speaker 1>their head like in a year, we're going to port
<v Speaker 1>this to this console and that console, so should we
<v Speaker 1>should be ready? So I bet the port would be
<v Speaker 1>pretty good.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, it'd be good.
<v Speaker 1>I have a Mac so I could play it on
<v Speaker 1>my MacBook Air, but I don't have an iPhone, so
<v Speaker 1>it's like, I don't want to play it on that computer.
<v Speaker 1>I think I'll just be happy to have it on
<v Speaker 1>a Steam Deck or a switch or something. I fear
<v Speaker 1>the Spotlight. That really cool looking retro game that is
<v Speaker 1>being published by Blumhouse Games is coming in October. It's
<v Speaker 1>like basically it's also getting re released on PC. What
<v Speaker 1>that means is it once was released and then Blumhouse
<v Speaker 1>came in. It's like, hey, we want to like like
<v Speaker 1>help out and like make this a bigger deal. And
<v Speaker 1>then the studio says, okay, what if we took it
<v Speaker 1>down and re released it at some point once we
<v Speaker 1>do make it a bigger deal. They had a really
<v Speaker 1>good showing at Summer Game Infest. A lot of people
<v Speaker 1>pretty excited about that. Arcage Chronicles is a It's coming
<v Speaker 1>to PS five and twenty twenty five. It's a new
<v Speaker 1>online original RPG set fifty years after the original game.
<v Speaker 1>All right, no, it's it's this is a single player
<v Speaker 1>RPG set fifty years after the original online RPG. Arc
<v Speaker 1>Age is when I've heard this is from Cacao Games,
<v Speaker 1>publisher that does work do a lot of online games.
<v Speaker 1>But there's been this trend recently of publishers and studios
<v Speaker 1>like that being like, let's get into this space of
<v Speaker 1>making more traditional style games as we might call them here,
<v Speaker 1>and this one looks pretty good. What do you think
<v Speaker 1>of arc Age?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I mean it looked. I think it had a
<v Speaker 2>good showing. I have never heard of this despite them
<v Speaker 2>being like the critically acclaimed Arcage, and I'm like, what
<v Speaker 2>are you talking about? Like, it just shows goes to
<v Speaker 2>show the breadth of I would say, I'm pretty plugged
<v Speaker 2>in and there's some stuff that I'm I guess I'm
<v Speaker 2>just missing. But yeah, no, I mean, the only which
<v Speaker 2>I would say with this one is like, there's a
<v Speaker 2>lot of games that kind of starting to look like
<v Speaker 2>this now. I think the biggest comparison is Crimson Desert,
<v Speaker 2>which is the solo spin off of the critically acclaimed
<v Speaker 2>MMO APG Black Desert Online. This just seems to be
<v Speaker 2>something equivalent to that. Yeah, so you know, it's I
<v Speaker 2>think it's a competitive space clearly, and so we'll see.
<v Speaker 2>But I thought that trailer and that gameplay showing looked
<v Speaker 2>pretty cool.
<v Speaker 1>And it's better than some of the other kinds of
<v Speaker 1>games of maybe this ilk that PlayStations had in their
<v Speaker 1>state of place before where it really felt like, what
<v Speaker 1>is this cheap looking shit doing here? This did not
<v Speaker 1>look cheap, This did not look out of place, and
<v Speaker 1>it's okay that maybe maybe multiple things are happening here
<v Speaker 1>maybe soon as reason it's standards, But I think a
<v Speaker 1>lot of these studious publishers are just getting better at
<v Speaker 1>targeting the kinds of games that they're putting them here
<v Speaker 1>because they want to show us, and they're making the
<v Speaker 1>kinds of games that I kind of want to see.
<v Speaker 1>So maybe good news there. Dragon Age the Vailguard got
<v Speaker 1>a really good a sort of just gameplay trailer the
<v Speaker 1>coming October, yes long October thirty first, but it did
<v Speaker 1>look like they're showing off the stuff that like, Okay,
<v Speaker 1>that looks like a real Dragon Age game, and I
<v Speaker 1>bet people are going to be pretty into it. I
<v Speaker 1>don't know what's your sort of like putting your finger
<v Speaker 1>on the pulse of Dragon Age and how you feel,
<v Speaker 1>how you think you're gonna feel when the game's actually here.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, I think I'm personally going to enjoy it
<v Speaker 2>a lot. It seems to be doing everything that I
<v Speaker 2>would want for a Dragon Age game, because I felt
<v Speaker 2>like in previous incarnations, like a lot of people did
<v Speaker 2>the like the combat, and like they were just like
<v Speaker 2>things about it, Like I'm way more into the fast paced,
<v Speaker 2>like twitchy kind of combat, and this is playing to that.
<v Speaker 2>I think it was weird to have, like I said,
<v Speaker 2>to have such a long demo, especially when we've now
<v Speaker 2>seen so much of this game people just had previews
<v Speaker 2>come out. I also think it's weird to like have
<v Speaker 2>this big trailer for a game that is probably going
<v Speaker 2>to sell way more copies than The Horizons or a
<v Speaker 2>Dawn remaster which comes out on the same day, although
<v Speaker 2>PlayStation's initiative with that is very different, right, Like they're
<v Speaker 2>just like, here it is the remaster, to pick it
<v Speaker 2>up when you want it. They're probably not thinking, oh,
<v Speaker 2>it's going to be a sell millions of copies in
<v Speaker 2>the same day as Dragon Age. But yeah, I thought
<v Speaker 2>I just it was a bizarre showing. Honestly, as cool
<v Speaker 2>as it looked, I'm personally very excited for it. I
<v Speaker 2>think the game that previewed very well, A lot of
<v Speaker 2>people very excited for it. I know Dragon Age fans,
<v Speaker 2>and there's a bunch of lack of a better word
<v Speaker 2>politics around this game, But I think it's going to
<v Speaker 2>be a banger, and I think it could, potentially, if
<v Speaker 2>it's living up to the what people are saying in previews,
<v Speaker 2>could be a Game of the Year contender. So very excited.
<v Speaker 1>Yep, I'm right there with you. It looks very promising.
<v Speaker 1>Towers of Agaspa Agaspa Uh Towers Vagasba, the action adventure
<v Speaker 1>builder fantasy game challenges players to rebuild their civilization and
<v Speaker 1>the ecosystem while maintaining a balance between the two, launches
<v Speaker 1>in Early Access in November. Interesting that more early access
<v Speaker 1>games launching on PlayStation something that they have done and
<v Speaker 1>you know, fits and starts here and there. Hit Man
<v Speaker 1>World of Assassion Assassination VR finally coming to the World
<v Speaker 1>of Assessions Assassination update for everything in compatible with PSVR
<v Speaker 1>two this December. That's always a fun, silly time, mostly
<v Speaker 1>that I like watching someone else do. And so Dan's
<v Speaker 1>got the PSVR two. Maybe we'll have them going there
<v Speaker 1>and just do some dumb stuff. It'll be a good time.
<v Speaker 2>Another example of a great reason to pick up the
<v Speaker 2>PSVR two in this presentation. Yeah, excited for that.
<v Speaker 1>And then PS five Chroma Collection. They showed off a
<v Speaker 1>bunch of new shells and controllers that are very shiny
<v Speaker 1>and sparkly and purple, and I thought they looked mostly
<v Speaker 1>very handsome. Uh not that like I'm I'm no longer
<v Speaker 1>in the like, oh I should get maybe you should
<v Speaker 1>get another controller. I've got four dual senses now, and
<v Speaker 1>I am probably gonna end up here with five or
<v Speaker 1>six as this pro stuff happens and the thirtieth anniversary
<v Speaker 1>stuff happens. So when I see these, it's no longer like,
<v Speaker 1>oh maybe this is one I should get? Is my
<v Speaker 1>fourth one? It's like, well, no, I'm good now. But
<v Speaker 1>I did think they looked pretty good, would you think?
<v Speaker 2>I mean? They looked fine. They looked very similar to
<v Speaker 2>the collection or whatever. The the one they showed off
<v Speaker 2>last year was it didn't it didn't. It didn't look
<v Speaker 2>you show me the thirty the beautiful placed og PlayStation
<v Speaker 2>Grade thirtieth anniversary collection, and then you come out with this.
<v Speaker 2>I'm like, well, I'm good.
<v Speaker 1>I will pay a premium for gray. What is this
<v Speaker 1>beautiful horseshit?
<v Speaker 2>Get it out of this beautiful teal.
<v Speaker 1>We all know gray is the most expensive color.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, so yeah, go ahead.
<v Speaker 1>Tom, My favorite color is gray? What does that make
<v Speaker 1>you feel? People get mad at me when I say that,
<v Speaker 1>but it's true. My favorite color is gray.
<v Speaker 2>I think it's an interesting pick.
<v Speaker 1>I think not even I don't want that to be
<v Speaker 1>a response either, because that makes it all we look
<v Speaker 1>look at this pick me girl over here. I just
<v Speaker 1>like gray. But people be like, that's not a color,
<v Speaker 1>it's a shade. It's a shade of a color. Like yeah,
<v Speaker 1>let's just look.
<v Speaker 2>It's clearly the best looking PlayStation five like exactly, and
<v Speaker 2>I'm with you. I'm with you. It's a great color.
<v Speaker 1>I think.
<v Speaker 2>I don't think it's technically a color, but we're not
<v Speaker 2>going to get it.
<v Speaker 1>It is definitely a color.
<v Speaker 2>It's just also a shade.
<v Speaker 1>Come on, it's color now?
<v Speaker 2>Is that the pole for this week? Is great?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, we could do that. That's a good idea, and
<v Speaker 1>that'll be a lot of fun. I'll love the response
<v Speaker 1>to that. All right, So let's uh, you know what,
<v Speaker 1>Let's take a break when we get back. Let's get
<v Speaker 1>into all the other headlines we had for today right
<v Speaker 1>after this.
<v Speaker 2>Are we actually pousing fad or? Is it?
<v Speaker 1>It's just a yeah, We'll just come right back into it.
<v Speaker 2>Gotcha? Cool?
<v Speaker 1>All Right, we're back. Rock Steady is reportedly working on
<v Speaker 1>a new Batman game. We'll see, but I mean, God,
<v Speaker 1>if I were them, I would too. This is from
<v Speaker 1>Zuhad Ali at the Game Post. Could the Dark Knight
<v Speaker 1>be returning? Rumor has it that rock Steady is working
<v Speaker 1>on a new Batman game, with Sony potentially looking to
<v Speaker 1>secure exclusivity. It's been over nine years since Batman took
<v Speaker 1>his last flight in rock Steady's iconic Batman Arkham series.
<v Speaker 1>The studio set a new standard for superhero games with
<v Speaker 1>Batman Arkham Asylum back in two thousand and nine, delivering
<v Speaker 1>a unique blend of mercy, of storytelling, blah blah blah.
<v Speaker 1>But there's this rumor came from special Nick on Twitter,
<v Speaker 1>Nick Baker from Xbox Era, and he's like, I've heard
<v Speaker 1>that that's what they're working on. And Sony's going to
<v Speaker 1>try to get the exclusivity rights. It is. If that's happening,
<v Speaker 1>it's like so early, like so very early, that we
<v Speaker 1>are probably five years away from even maybe seen it.
<v Speaker 1>And then of course a lot of things can change
<v Speaker 1>between now and then, but let's set all that aside.
<v Speaker 1>This is the right move, right.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, I would have said a couple of years ago
<v Speaker 2>that it wasn't, but after the suicide score blunder, it
<v Speaker 2>absolutely is just go back to what you do well.
<v Speaker 1>I think the answer is give people what they want,
<v Speaker 1>but in a way that surprises them, which is kind
<v Speaker 1>of how you have to operate in fandoms. And when
<v Speaker 1>you have a niche that you've established for yourself, So
<v Speaker 1>do Batman, but maybe not necessarily Arkham right.
<v Speaker 2>Maybe Batman beyond and everyone will forget that suicide the
<v Speaker 2>suicide Squad debacle that that that that game I think
<v Speaker 2>would single handedly almost write this ship for that studio.
<v Speaker 2>And it's unfortunate because I man, it's just heartbreaking all around,
<v Speaker 2>and it's it's not even like a rock Steady exclusive
<v Speaker 2>problem that they found themselves in. But yeah, unfortunately they're
<v Speaker 2>in this position that it is. Yeah, like you said,
<v Speaker 2>take it in it doesn't have to beat and beyond.
<v Speaker 2>But that's the if they're in a if they're in
<v Speaker 2>a position where they like, we have to do a
<v Speaker 2>slam dunk Batman game, like that's the pick.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, I think it is, like you said that
<v Speaker 1>Median Chat. Even before they like that that it registered
<v Speaker 1>on the video live, people in chat were like, Batman beyond,
<v Speaker 1>Batman Beyond, and then you said it, and Ward's like,
<v Speaker 1>I would buy that in an instant. I think it
<v Speaker 1>is like you said, the slam dunk and why. I mean,
<v Speaker 1>it's a slam dunk because it's something that people want.
<v Speaker 1>But it would be more Batman but different, and you
<v Speaker 1>could do a bunch of very different You could do
<v Speaker 1>a bunch of fun new stuff playing around in that space.
<v Speaker 1>Gotham can look very different. You can reset the world.
<v Speaker 1>It could be a new timeline.
<v Speaker 2>Obviously, a new art style like plays into the look
<v Speaker 2>of the show, like it doesn't have to look like
<v Speaker 2>the previous Aukham games. So you know, I think I
<v Speaker 2>think that just having that be so separated from what
<v Speaker 2>the Aukham series is is a great way to like,
<v Speaker 2>it would probably be exciting for them because it would
<v Speaker 2>be like, oh, We're not just going back to make
<v Speaker 2>another Batman game, but we are changing the game. And
<v Speaker 2>I mean, look, I think it's slam Dune, slam dunk
<v Speaker 2>Idea Rocksteady if you want it. Ten percent royalties on
<v Speaker 2>all sales of the Batman Baron game, which Grevi and
<v Speaker 2>I will split. We're not gonna get greeting.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, we understand grubby. You know, yeah, we're not. Heyway,
<v Speaker 1>I'm allowed to say that we're not gonna get grubby.
<v Speaker 1>There you go, there you go. Yeah, Hey, I I
<v Speaker 1>want rock Steady to return at a studio. I've definitely
<v Speaker 1>cooled on my like, oh man, I just can't wait
<v Speaker 1>to see what they're gonna do next overtime personally even
<v Speaker 1>before Suicide Squad, but Arkam Asylum is like an all
<v Speaker 1>time great game for me. Metroid Vanya that I the Door,
<v Speaker 1>and then Arkham City I also obviously a very good
<v Speaker 1>game a lot of people for the first city. I
<v Speaker 1>just Asylum was the special one to me. I think
<v Speaker 1>that they can definitely recapture that magic, and part of
<v Speaker 1>that would just be if you make us forget about
<v Speaker 1>Suicide Squad, that'll be a big win. And they can
<v Speaker 1>do that here pretty easily. Now easily and then five
<v Speaker 1>six years evan hundreds of millions of dollars in development,
<v Speaker 1>but easy enough compared to like maybe trying to make
<v Speaker 1>force it some other new thing to work. That's not
<v Speaker 1>the path here. You can deviate and try something else
<v Speaker 1>after Batman Beyond, Just do Batman Beyond. Let's just I'm
<v Speaker 1>confirming right now. It's got a big Batman Beyond. All right.
<v Speaker 1>We had highlights from the Sonic Central broadcast. This is
<v Speaker 1>from my Nintendo News. Here's just a couple of like tedbits.
<v Speaker 1>Sonics Cross Shadow Generations got a new story trailer and
<v Speaker 1>revealed that Adam builded a feature a feature new look
<v Speaker 1>at the story of Shadows standalone campaign. So we just
<v Speaker 1>saw more from Shadow a standalone campaign. Sonic Rumble, that
<v Speaker 1>mobile game that got announced a while back. That's a
<v Speaker 1>party game kind of maybe a little bit like Fall guys.
<v Speaker 1>It is now it's still coming to mobile, but now
<v Speaker 1>it's also coming to PC. So that's pretty cool, and
<v Speaker 1>they're both coming this winter. I'm like kind of a
<v Speaker 1>little bit more excited than I was before. I'm glad
<v Speaker 1>they're making that move. Sonic dream Team is getting a
<v Speaker 1>new playable character that will be arriving in the mobile
<v Speaker 1>game later this year. That's the one that is currently
<v Speaker 1>still I think locked to Apple Arcade. Chow is just one.
<v Speaker 2>That one, Yeah, that's you.
<v Speaker 1>Did you try because I haven't tried it yet, but
<v Speaker 1>I haven't book.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's it's uh, I mean that's maybe coming out
<v Speaker 2>with Sonic Mobile Games left and right, Right, that that
<v Speaker 2>one is genuinely very good. Didn't play a ton, but
<v Speaker 2>definitely messed around with it.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, Chow Tales. Sonic Team announced a new animated web series,
<v Speaker 1>chow Tales. It is Chow right because It's I think so,
<v Speaker 1>which will include eight episodes of whimsical shorts featuring the
<v Speaker 1>adorable fan favorite show UH, Sonic The Hedgehog, DC, and
<v Speaker 1>Warner Brothers.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, huh, you could forget everyone's favorite characters of course,
<v Speaker 2>the fan favorite chows uh Sonic the Head.
<v Speaker 1>Have you heard about this one? Though? Sonic The Hedgehog, DC,
<v Speaker 1>and Warner Brothers. Kicking off in twenty twenty five, the
<v Speaker 1>d C Cross Sonic merchandise collaboration uh It launches with
<v Speaker 1>an all new five issue comics series published by d
<v Speaker 1>C Comics. The merchandise will be developed by Sega and
<v Speaker 1>w b uh I Love A spanning numerous categories including apparel, toy,
<v Speaker 1>and more will follow in late twenty twenty five. Basically,
<v Speaker 1>I think it's like Sonic is Batman or a shadows
<v Speaker 1>Batman and Sonic is Superman. Like that's what they're doing here.
<v Speaker 2>I mean great.
<v Speaker 1>I think I think it's horseshit because if I want,
<v Speaker 1>if I want a T shirt that's like says Superman
<v Speaker 1>and then has a picture of Sonic and then uh
<v Speaker 1>it like has some quote from Lord of the Rings,
<v Speaker 1>I want to get it from a knockoff off T
<v Speaker 1>short stand T shirt stand animal, yes, or in the
<v Speaker 1>streets of Los Angeles when we're there for Summer game
<v Speaker 1>Fest and I go over to skid Row. That's what
<v Speaker 1>I want. Don't don't make this official?
<v Speaker 2>Come on, yeah, I agree.
<v Speaker 1>Uh what I'll see here? Oh. Partnerships. Sego revealed a
<v Speaker 1>variety of partnerships they they will be collaborating with this
<v Speaker 1>to hear and to create a wide range of all
<v Speaker 1>new Sonic theme products and experiences, including Lego Top golf Jack,
<v Speaker 1>specific PDP first four figures, HGC helmets, Luis de Guzman,
<v Speaker 1>and a Bouche Road creative Top Golf. What the am
<v Speaker 1>I gonna go hit Sonic well, Sonic spinball themed golf
<v Speaker 1>balls at Top Golf. I'll do that, I guess. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>There was also a little bit more Keanu Reeves joining
<v Speaker 1>Sonic Cross Shadows Generations. This is from Nintendo Everything. Keanu
<v Speaker 1>Reeves is coming to Sonic Across Shadow Generations. It's been
<v Speaker 1>announced this is part of a newly revealed Sonic the
<v Speaker 1>Hedgehog three Movie Pack DLC. The new DLC will let
<v Speaker 1>players experience levels inspired by the upcoming film. The Sonic
<v Speaker 1>the Hedgehog three Movie Pack for Sonic Cross Shadow Generations
<v Speaker 1>launches on December twelfth, twenty twenty four. I love this.
<v Speaker 1>I love a movie pack DLC inspired by stuff from
<v Speaker 1>the movie that you're putting in the game. That's sekas
<v Speaker 1>ahead of the curve here, Like Nintendo could never do this.
<v Speaker 1>They wouldn't. They wouldn't. They probably feel like there's no
<v Speaker 1>need to do it, but they should, uh. I yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I think like if they imagine if there was a
<v Speaker 1>Super Mario Brothers the movie Kingdom game in honesty as DLC,
<v Speaker 1>like that would have been that would have that would
<v Speaker 1>have ruled. But I don't know, what do you think?
<v Speaker 2>No, I mean, I think it's it's what the Sonic
<v Speaker 2>fans wanted right at the dumb shit since ever since
<v Speaker 2>you know we'd use Shadow is gonna be in this movie.
<v Speaker 2>They announced Sonic X Shadow Generations, and they were kind of,
<v Speaker 2>you know, very much lining up with the release dates.
<v Speaker 2>I think people thought like, oh, wouldn't it be great
<v Speaker 2>if that was some crossover content then? And there is
<v Speaker 2>and is and Keanu is voicing I'm assuming it's new
<v Speaker 2>lines or I don't know how that necessarily works, whether
<v Speaker 2>they're just pulling stuff from the movie and saying like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>Keanu is voicing Shadow in Shadow Sonic X Shadow Generations.
<v Speaker 2>I'm I'm I'm stupidly kind of in a weird way
<v Speaker 2>excited this game. I think is gonna be fun. I
<v Speaker 2>did not man. Sonic Frontiers was a tough pill to swallow.
<v Speaker 2>I'm not even a huge Sonic fan, but like, I
<v Speaker 2>booted that game up and I was like, oh, this
<v Speaker 2>is rough.
<v Speaker 1>It feels like an unreal that you see on YouTube,
<v Speaker 1>for sure. But my kids liked it and I thought
<v Speaker 1>it was I had a fine time with it. But
<v Speaker 1>I just have a lot of expectations for Sonic. But yeah,
<v Speaker 1>real quick, I'm gonna read this from the Jim Carrey Wikipedia.
<v Speaker 1>It's it's serious. It's a serious thing, So I'll start here.
<v Speaker 1>In April twenty twenty two, Carrie announced that he was
<v Speaker 1>considering retirement, saying I have enough, I've done enough, I
<v Speaker 1>am enough. This is a shoot everybody. He said that
<v Speaker 1>he would return if he were offered a script that
<v Speaker 1>he felt would be really important for people to see,
<v Speaker 1>like if it was written in gold inc. In February
<v Speaker 1>twenty twenty four, it was announced that Carrie would reprise
<v Speaker 1>his role as Doctor Robotnik and Sonic the Hedgehog.
<v Speaker 2>Three, playing his dad as well.
<v Speaker 1>There you go. So there is the movie that's really
<v Speaker 1>important for people to see that's written in gold ink.
<v Speaker 2>Everyone's always mad that superhero movie is aren't represented at
<v Speaker 2>the Oscars, and if Sonic three the movie is not
<v Speaker 2>represented the Oscars next year, that will be riots in
<v Speaker 2>the streets. The script best adaptation at the Oscars.
<v Speaker 1>Streets WI a bullet yep absolutely. Ubisoft cancels press previews
<v Speaker 1>of Assassin's Creed Shadows some weird stuff happening here. Earlier today,
<v Speaker 1>Ubisoft and canceled its online appearance at the Tokyo Game
<v Speaker 1>Show due to what it said were various circumstances. However,
<v Speaker 1>Insider Gaming has learned that Ubisoft has also canceled its
<v Speaker 1>press previews of Assassin's Creed Shadows. Already the various sources,
<v Speaker 1>the Assassin's Creed Shadows press previews were scheduled to take
<v Speaker 1>place next week and the embargo date for the previews
<v Speaker 1>would be announced. It then at the time of writing,
<v Speaker 1>Assassin's Creed Shadows is still scheduled to release on November twelfth,
<v Speaker 1>twenty twenty four, but maybe that is now in doubt.
<v Speaker 1>Tom Caswell, what do you think is happening here?
<v Speaker 2>This is kind of wild because to my recollection, an
<v Speaker 2>Assassin's Creed game has never been delayed.
<v Speaker 1>It's not something that comes to mind.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, and you know, from personally it's late.
<v Speaker 1>This is crazy.
<v Speaker 2>It is kind of wild. Uh, you know, I from
<v Speaker 2>personal experience and personal experiences with Ubisoft. This happened to me,
<v Speaker 2>and granted it was scullum bones right, but then to
<v Speaker 2>have a preview of that point and then very similar
<v Speaker 2>to that, it got canceled, and then a couple of
<v Speaker 2>weeks later they announced that they were delaying skullm Bones again,
<v Speaker 2>and so it does give hints of that it would be,
<v Speaker 2>but own Bones getting a delay was more expected than not.
<v Speaker 1>Right, Sure, but you're right, there's the timeline, the way
<v Speaker 1>that it came about the last minute, like hey, we're
<v Speaker 1>doing a preview period. Hey, get ready for that. We're
<v Speaker 1>going to tell you the embargo then and then it
<v Speaker 1>getting canceled and it getting delayed. All that has happened
<v Speaker 1>here in this situation as well, except for the delay happening,
<v Speaker 1>which we're now that's why we're expecting it. So I
<v Speaker 1>think that's a good analogy here.
<v Speaker 2>We know that they had to implement some changes because
<v Speaker 2>they included, uh, there was I think it was like
<v Speaker 2>an icon that was actually attributed to uh, like a
<v Speaker 2>group that did like reconstruction, you know, like what is
<v Speaker 2>it like, you know when when people in America like
<v Speaker 2>do Civil War battles and stuff like that, reenactment re
<v Speaker 2>reenactment group. Yeah, I think it was a reenactment group.
<v Speaker 2>And they I guess they thought, you know, the artist
<v Speaker 2>or whatever thought like, oh, this is a historically accurate logo,
<v Speaker 2>but it's actually like club's logo, so they, I know,
<v Speaker 2>and then there's things like, uh, I think like Tory
<v Speaker 2>Gates where they shouldn't like there was a couple of
<v Speaker 2>things that like people wouldn't you know, nitpicking and saying
<v Speaker 2>like this isn't his story historically accurate. So potentially I
<v Speaker 2>think there could be like more things that they you know,
<v Speaker 2>they went back to look at everything and maybe realized
<v Speaker 2>like and you know, wait to look.
<v Speaker 1>At everything this artist touched like that sort of thing.
<v Speaker 2>Like maybe yeah, like the whole game, Like I'm not
<v Speaker 2>sure like that that's the only thing that I could
<v Speaker 2>think would delay a game, because again, it's unprecedented really
<v Speaker 2>for Assassin's s Creed games to be delayed. That being said,
<v Speaker 2>I still believe that it's more likely than not it
<v Speaker 2>does come out when it's meant to come out. I
<v Speaker 2>think there's a big possibility that I don't know, if
<v Speaker 2>there's something wrong with the builds. I don't know why
<v Speaker 2>the previous got canceled. I don't necessarily think that this means, oh,
<v Speaker 2>it's definitely going to be like that scullum Bone situation,
<v Speaker 2>but there is a possibility that that's the case. And
<v Speaker 2>my question is if you delay this game, where does
<v Speaker 2>it go? Yeah, I mean so later, is it just
<v Speaker 2>like a month delayed?
<v Speaker 1>And I think they've released games in December before now
<v Speaker 1>that I don't know if they've done that with Assassin's Creed.
<v Speaker 1>I think they very specifically have not, But uh, I
<v Speaker 1>think games can do just fine in December these days.
<v Speaker 2>Do you think it would be a month's delay or
<v Speaker 2>do you think it's a twenty twenty five?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, it could ease. I mean it could be more
<v Speaker 1>than that, for sure. It's just uh, it's hard to
<v Speaker 1>say because they were just about to do previews, so
<v Speaker 1>you assume like they thought this game was ready to go.
<v Speaker 1>There is the other side of like, when I first
<v Speaker 1>heard this, I'm like, oh, when they were pulling out
<v Speaker 1>a Tokyo game show, I'm like, were they doing that?
<v Speaker 1>Because they were getting threats that were stiffly a lot
<v Speaker 1>of weirdos on the internet who are like, how dare
<v Speaker 1>you not put a Japanese person in this game set
<v Speaker 1>in Japan? Even though there's a Japanese woman in there,
<v Speaker 1>and for some reason they don't see her, and so
<v Speaker 1>they keep yelling at it. You'd be soft, and it
<v Speaker 1>kind of did. It seemed like it was escalating, and
<v Speaker 1>I'm like, oh, are they are they kind of getting
<v Speaker 1>shy about that, trying to avoid some sort of bad situation.
<v Speaker 1>Is that is that what various circumstances is referring to.
<v Speaker 1>But this once they were like, we're seeing press previews
<v Speaker 1>that had nothing to do with Tokyo Game Show a
<v Speaker 1>least to my eye, it's what it seemed like. It's okay,
<v Speaker 1>there's probably should be more happening here and the Okham's racer.
<v Speaker 1>It's a delay is coming is what that really means
<v Speaker 1>to be right. I don't know where they put this game.
<v Speaker 2>I think that you know, the backlash and all of that.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, it makes sense for things where it's like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>we we were misrepresenting. You know that there's there's things
<v Speaker 2>that are being misrepresented in the game. We need to
<v Speaker 2>go look at the art again. I understand that there
<v Speaker 2>is no way on this earth that Ubisoft is delaying
<v Speaker 2>this game because of the backlash against the characters. This
<v Speaker 2>is this is Ubi's golden goose. It is the thing
<v Speaker 2>carrying the studio and it is it is that coal
<v Speaker 2>of duty for all intents and purposes, and so yeah,
<v Speaker 2>there's no way it's getting delayed for that. If if
<v Speaker 2>it is getting delayed at all. That yeah, they're not
<v Speaker 2>going to move the game for the but that that
<v Speaker 2>could be some of that other element that I mentioned.
<v Speaker 2>But it's well, I guess we'll see. It'll be very interesting.
<v Speaker 1>Yep. I'm uh. I'm looking forward to actually playing that game.
<v Speaker 1>I was. I thought the early trailer was like looked
<v Speaker 1>really promising.
<v Speaker 2>Although now the ghost of Yota is on the horizon,
<v Speaker 2>a little bit of the wind is taken out of
<v Speaker 2>the stem. That is. The thing is like, well, if
<v Speaker 2>it gets delayed and we you know Yota has a
<v Speaker 2>twenty twenty five release date, you got it, you got
<v Speaker 2>its games.
<v Speaker 1>We got if they're delaying it that long because I'm
<v Speaker 1>expecting Yoka and like late next year or mid next year, maybe, Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>you can't be delaying that long. That's crazy because there's
<v Speaker 1>a stack of other Assassin's Creed projects always in the works.
<v Speaker 1>In fact that they've talked about how they have exactly
<v Speaker 1>some of those TV shows and or not maybe two shows,
<v Speaker 1>but like a bunch of different things. So yeah, they
<v Speaker 1>got to get this thing out sooner rather than later.
<v Speaker 1>Uh see here last news story, I think Tactical RPG
<v Speaker 1>GM you Nicorn Overlord smashes past one million in sales.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Alena Haggs at Nintendo Life. Vanilla Ware's
<v Speaker 1>outstanding tactical RPG, Unicorn Overlord, has reached yet another sales milestone.
<v Speaker 1>Publisher Atlas has announced in a blog post shared on
<v Speaker 1>the official Atlas Japan website. The company thanked fans for
<v Speaker 1>supporting the game and shared that there are discounts for
<v Speaker 1>the game on PSN and switchy Shop, but only in
<v Speaker 1>Japan right now. Atlas also shared some brand new artwork
<v Speaker 1>both the game blah blah blah. They mentioned it has
<v Speaker 1>now reached one million in sales total. Yeah, that's pretty good.
<v Speaker 1>I you know, you never know with these games, especially
<v Speaker 1>it's like, oh, Vanilla Ware has done this kind of game,
<v Speaker 1>and now they're doing a what kind of weird tactical
<v Speaker 1>grouping game where you position little platoons on the battlefield
<v Speaker 1>and you had the makeup of the platoon really matters
<v Speaker 1>all this really interesting tactical decisions. Is that going to
<v Speaker 1>match up with what their audience wants? And clearly yes,
<v Speaker 1>I think a big part of it is it still
<v Speaker 1>looks gorgeous, still has the waifus so people showed up,
<v Speaker 1>but then turns out it's a game though many people
<v Speaker 1>did really cool, like quite a lot. I keep meaning
<v Speaker 1>to get back to it, but yeah, million copies sold.
<v Speaker 1>That's just an unmitigated success, right, that's just so without
<v Speaker 1>any caveats.
<v Speaker 2>I mean it. I'd be curious to see what agus
<v Speaker 2>Rim sold, because I know that that had quite a number.
<v Speaker 1>I think they mentioned that ages Rim had reached a
<v Speaker 1>one million in sales as well, but that was almost
<v Speaker 1>four years after its original Japanese release.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, so this is about pop for the course. I
<v Speaker 2>mean it's great. I think that. You know, again, it
<v Speaker 2>depends on how much the game costs to make. That's
<v Speaker 2>going to factor into whether this is a success or not.
<v Speaker 1>Considering that it's not on Steam yet either though, so
<v Speaker 1>it's it's console only that pretty good.
<v Speaker 2>That's an important element. Yeah, I think that. I think
<v Speaker 2>that the future of the gaming industry is going to
<v Speaker 2>be kind of uh, it's going to be these kind
<v Speaker 2>of not indie releases, but like more on the indie
<v Speaker 2>side that that cost a substanti flamount less than the
<v Speaker 2>Triple A stuff and they sell a modest amount of
<v Speaker 2>unit's like one million, Like if Horizon Zero don remaster
<v Speaker 2>only sells one million units, that's probably going to be
<v Speaker 2>a disappointment. Persony, if Ghost of Yote only sells that,
<v Speaker 2>that's going to be disappointment. But I'm sure for Vanilla
<v Speaker 2>Ware that this I mean clearly they see this as
<v Speaker 2>a success. Yeah. I think that it's a good barometer
<v Speaker 2>for where a lot of studios should be thinking about
<v Speaker 2>what success look like and what you know, resource management
<v Speaker 2>that goes into games and things of that nature. I
<v Speaker 2>didn't get around to checking it out because it just
<v Speaker 2>there's a million games. I don't know if I ever will, but.
<v Speaker 1>On Switch is very robust, so if you ever do
<v Speaker 1>get the bug to try it out, it's right there.
<v Speaker 2>They clearly know how to make a good game. So yeah,
<v Speaker 2>kudos to them.
<v Speaker 1>Excellent. All right, let me get to the pole question.
<v Speaker 1>I'll get that set up very quickly, fresh to make
<v Speaker 1>sure it's as recent as possible. Did you buy Space
<v Speaker 1>Marine two? I'm gonna sick click yes here. Twenty two
<v Speaker 1>percent said yes, thirty five percent said not yet, but
<v Speaker 1>I will or not or yet because we wouldn't are
<v Speaker 1>in there, and then forty three percent said no. The
<v Speaker 1>game seems to be doing kind of smash hit numbers. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>but I think it's it's finding its audience, which is
<v Speaker 1>maybe not necessarily like oh every gamer. It's like, no
<v Speaker 1>kind of a casual audience has shown up for Space
<v Speaker 1>Marine two and a uh and obviously the Warhammer forty
<v Speaker 1>k people, but they were going to show up no
<v Speaker 1>matter what. I did. See on Instagram Henry cavill uh
<v Speaker 1>talking about playing the game a bunch of times, he's
<v Speaker 1>like I am. He's like, I can't beat it on
<v Speaker 1>the highest difficulty, but I'm I'm still loving it. But
<v Speaker 1>he's yeah, he's treating like research for his roles. Eventually,
<v Speaker 1>I think, yeah, the game very successful. Have you been
<v Speaker 1>spending any time with Space Marine two?
<v Speaker 2>Yeah? I have haven't. I've been playing in chunks. Have
<v Speaker 2>just been like doing a mission at a time. Again,
<v Speaker 2>it's just like a little morsel game like it really
<v Speaker 2>just is like again scratching the itch of like really
<v Speaker 2>solid third person action adventure game. More games I think
<v Speaker 2>need to be like this that just do a couple
<v Speaker 2>of things very well and don't don't try and pack
<v Speaker 2>in a bunch of ideas. I think the game just
<v Speaker 2>does what it does extremely well. And I'm not surprised
<v Speaker 2>honestly that it's broken out of the mold of just
<v Speaker 2>Warhammer forty k freaks checking it out. There is so
<v Speaker 2>much to that game that I think just speaks to
<v Speaker 2>blanket gamer audiences. Yep, you fight aliens. It feels good
<v Speaker 2>to fight the aliens, and.
<v Speaker 1>You hang out with your space bros.
<v Speaker 2>And you can get the campaign done and not touch
<v Speaker 2>it ever again and feel satisfied. Or there is that.
<v Speaker 1>And like like missions you can run.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, and that clearly has become you know, people, the
<v Speaker 2>campaign I think got hooks and people and people like,
<v Speaker 2>oh I want more. This feels so good. Here are
<v Speaker 2>these op mission you know, these spec ops missions what
<v Speaker 2>I called. So yeah, I'm really happy. I'm really happy
<v Speaker 2>because again it's another example of the kind of games
<v Speaker 2>that I think are emblematic of what the future. If
<v Speaker 2>we're going to create a sustainable future for the industry,
<v Speaker 2>more games need to kind of I think, take some
<v Speaker 2>of that ethos that Space Marine two has.
<v Speaker 1>Absolutely we got a new pole question. We'll get to
<v Speaker 1>that here in a second. Before we do, though, Tom castwell,
<v Speaker 1>why don't you tell people where they can find you
<v Speaker 1>on the internet what you have going on? All that
<v Speaker 1>good stuff.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, you can find me at Great brit Tom like
<v Speaker 2>Great Britain, but Tom at the end if you want. However,
<v Speaker 2>I'll push people to go check out my new podcast
<v Speaker 2>slash a network that I put together. It's called the
<v Speaker 2>Limit Break Network and the main podcast called Hit the
<v Speaker 2>Limit Break. You can find it everywhere on the internet
<v Speaker 2>at Limit Break Net. I think anyone that's listening to
<v Speaker 2>the show who's interested in the video game industry should
<v Speaker 2>check it out. It's essentially an Hit the Limit Break
<v Speaker 2>is essentially an interview show. We try and not get
<v Speaker 2>caught up in the news cycle. We try and look
<v Speaker 2>at the future and the bigger picture. We've spoken to
<v Speaker 2>game developers. I interviewed fergus Urquerhart of Obsidian. We have
<v Speaker 2>an interview coming out next week with Jason Schreier about
<v Speaker 2>his new book. There is a quote from did you
<v Speaker 2>read Jason's book? Did you get a chance to time?
<v Speaker 1>No, I'm not yet. I think he asked me if
<v Speaker 1>I wanted to copy, and I just never got around
<v Speaker 1>to get one.
<v Speaker 2>There is a quote from Bobby Kodik in that book
<v Speaker 2>that is going to blow people's minds, and we talk
<v Speaker 2>about it extensively in the interview, So if you want
<v Speaker 2>to sneak peek at the book and what it's about,
<v Speaker 2>that interview with Jason is going up next week. So yeah,
<v Speaker 2>you can find Hit the Limit Break on YouTube. You
<v Speaker 2>can find it on whatever podcast service you listen to
<v Speaker 2>as well, and if you want to follow us on
<v Speaker 2>social media, Limit Break net is the handle everywhere, so
<v Speaker 2>please go check that out.
<v Speaker 1>Awesome and thank you again for coming on today. Was
<v Speaker 1>the last minute thing. I always appreciate you being there,
<v Speaker 1>all right, of course, three tidbits. Let's see, I guess
<v Speaker 1>Bilatro Mobile is happening tomorrow and then I've.
<v Speaker 2>Been playing it. Actually, yes, access it is. This is
<v Speaker 2>a good game. Don't know if you know that.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, A lot of people who got it been like, man,
<v Speaker 1>I've been playing a lot more Bilatro. I'm like, I
<v Speaker 1>can't have that in my life. Metaphor Refuntasio. The prologue
<v Speaker 1>demo is up and now your progress carries over. It's
<v Speaker 1>definitely out on Xbox Live. I don't know if it's
<v Speaker 1>out on Steam.
<v Speaker 2>Is it available in the West, because I read that
<v Speaker 2>it was.
<v Speaker 1>Let's see. WARREO sixty four says it's up on Xbox Live.
<v Speaker 1>Metaphor from move allows users to play the opening section
<v Speaker 1>of the game. Yeah, seems like it's all good and
<v Speaker 1>then let's see here. News from you be Soft Assassin's
<v Speaker 1>Creed Shadows is delayed to February fourteenth, twenty twenty five.
<v Speaker 1>No way, it's going right into that monster Hunter zone.
<v Speaker 1>So good luck with Oh my god, that's crazy.
<v Speaker 2>That is that? Wow, the cracks and Ubusoft man over
<v Speaker 2>the last few years, Holy canoli. That is mental.
<v Speaker 1>It's gonna be tough. And they added here we are
<v Speaker 1>departing from the traditional season pass model. All players will
<v Speaker 1>be able to enjoy the game at the same time
<v Speaker 1>on February fourteenth, and those who pre ordered the game
<v Speaker 1>will be granted the first expansion for free. So I man,
<v Speaker 1>it just sounds like they are constantly rethinking everything over there,
<v Speaker 1>like they're just looking for something that's gonna work, and
<v Speaker 1>this is like is this what you want? Is this okay?
<v Speaker 2>I I think what has happened, and not to get
<v Speaker 2>too deep in, I think what's happened is Ubersoft has
<v Speaker 2>lost their footing. And Ubersoft was more one of the
<v Speaker 2>more stable studios. You know, they had their yearly releases,
<v Speaker 2>they had their additional content, they had their Rabbits.
<v Speaker 1>Much the Rabbits Empire, please, Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>The Rabbits Empire, and they have faulted in the last
<v Speaker 2>few years and they don't know what the fuck to do.
<v Speaker 2>And I don't think this is the end of man.
<v Speaker 1>I wonder if, like, yeah, I wonder if like the
<v Speaker 1>case started coming in and it was like, uh oh,
<v Speaker 1>I just don't know.
<v Speaker 2>I guess. I guess we'll have to wait for Jason
<v Speaker 2>trying to write a report about what the fuck's going
<v Speaker 2>on with Chat.
<v Speaker 1>I can't wait to see it and read it myself.
<v Speaker 1>I think that's going to do it for the show, though,
<v Speaker 1>Tom as well, thank you so much for hanging out
<v Speaker 1>with me today and talking about video games.
<v Speaker 2>Man. I super appreciate it, of course always, and.
<v Speaker 1>Thank you all for listening and watching. You are the
<v Speaker 1>best audience in gaming. We got plenty more coming your
<v Speaker 1>way this week on Giant Bomb. We'll be doing some
<v Speaker 1>streaming today. We'll have a kind of maybe a fun
<v Speaker 1>grabby bag. We will I think I'm gonna play frost
<v Speaker 1>Punk two tomorrow on the website, a lot voicemail, dumb Truck,
<v Speaker 1>and then on Friday, You're like Hey, wait, he didn't
<v Speaker 1>mention Blake club. Dan is out of town. He's out
<v Speaker 1>on assignment. When he returns should be Thursday ish, and
<v Speaker 1>so we're planning to do a Blake club on Friday.
<v Speaker 1>Even though Mike says we could skip a week, we
<v Speaker 1>just think it'd be nice we let him get back
<v Speaker 1>in there and really get to work on alone in
<v Speaker 1>the dark. So tune in up, tune in well, let
<v Speaker 1>you know the exact time, but that'll be Friday, and
<v Speaker 1>then that probably means that we'll be doing that after
<v Speaker 1>GMM and a BCR that we probably should be having
<v Speaker 1>coming later this week, and then unprofessional Fridays, or maybe
<v Speaker 1>that just is unprofessional Fridays. We'll see. All Right, we
<v Speaker 1>can get out of here. Thank you once again, everybody.
<v Speaker 1>Until next time, have a good one, take care of yourself,
<v Speaker 1>and goodbye. Wait I do the poll question create the
<v Speaker 1>state of play A, B, C, D or F. Bye everybody,
