I'm Matt Jones here in Louisville, Kentucky, where I'm in a studio by myself. I've got Shannon in the studio next to me, Ryan and Lexing. Ryan and Drew are in Lexington. Hello, fellas, how are you morning? 00:00:55 Speaker 6: How are you sir? 00:00:56 Speaker 4: Welcome? 00:00:56 Speaker 5: I'm lonely. I may I come in here? Just I have to look at Mario and his cream sweater and then that's really it eight five nine two eighth, twenty two eighty seven, It's Clark's Poppins up phone nine uh Av's not auto glass text machine is seven seven two four five two five four In this edition sponsored by the TJ. Smith Law Office. If you call TJ, He'll make them pay. It is the final road game of the season for the Cats. They are going to be in College Station where I went to a game. I guess it was four years ago when it was awesome and we came back and won, And now Kentucky has a chance to continue their hot winning streak and win game at seven o'clock tonight before they play Florida on the weekend. Ryan, this is a game at the beginning beginning of SC play looked like oh no, but A and M, like a lot of teams we've played, is on a long losing streak coming into us, not playing well. Chance to steal one this evening, even though we didn't against Auburn and Georgia. 00:01:56 Speaker 6: Yeah. 00:01:56 Speaker 7: A and MS lost six of the last eight. But back in January they were like they were the team to beat. They were in first place. They started so hot start conference play, high in the rankings, now they kind of just turned Bucky Ball has kind of hit a brick wall, it seems like here late in the season. 00:02:10 Speaker 5: Yeah, I Drew, I think we got a real shot to win this. A and M has kind of played itself, if not on the bubble, at least one of the lower seeds. They kind of need this game. But I feel like we have a shot. I would say again guessing spreads, you may know is A and M like two and a half points. 00:02:31 Speaker 4: Nailed it, nailed it, two and a half point spread. Look at this. 00:02:34 Speaker 5: I didn't do well with the spread against Vandy, but otherwise been pretty good at those this year. I like our chances tonight, Drew, What about you? 00:02:41 Speaker 4: I do too. They're in desperation mode. 00:02:44 Speaker 8: I think in the last bracketology they have one of the last buys, so they're in, but they still would like to get a few more wins. And it's their senior night down there in College Station. 00:02:53 Speaker 4: Oh wow. 00:02:54 Speaker 8: But otherwise they've lost six out of eight. They play that Bucky Ball style, but if you can get them away from they don't have much of a half court defense whatsoever. 00:03:02 Speaker 4: Some teams have. So what is what is Bucky Ball style? People? Will say that all the time. 00:03:07 Speaker 2: What does it mean to a lot of threes, a lot of layups, a lot like Alabama? 00:03:10 Speaker 4: Basically okay, that's what they call bucket ball press. 00:03:14 Speaker 6: Press, Yeah, press and shoot threes. 00:03:17 Speaker 4: Shut overs with the story tonight. 00:03:19 Speaker 5: Now we like that in terms of we like getting in transition, which can happen? Do you how do you think we handle the press? That's not something we've seen a lot this year. 00:03:29 Speaker 7: Well, now that we have AOC, I'm not too concerned about it anymore. Aberdeen's been a great job at point guard. I mean, he's what was your stat you said yesterday? Last four games, he's got. 00:03:37 Speaker 4: Sixteen sixteen assis one turn up. 00:03:40 Speaker 7: That's amazing for a guy that is really a two guard and had to develop into this point guard. 00:03:44 Speaker 6: So yeah, bring all the smoke. I like my AOC back court. 00:03:49 Speaker 5: Bring all the smoke, even in Texas, AMC in Texas. That's that's probably that's her stomping grounds AOC shining for people who miss the show yesterday, that's Aberdeen, Oway and Chandler. I'm not making them political. So it's Aberdeen, Oway and Chandler the three headed goat AOC. So that game is at seven o'clock. Our pregame show will start at four thirty. There's a lot going on, so let's talk. Let's start with the piece of if not concrete news, at least reported news. 00:04:23 Speaker 4: Drew. 00:04:24 Speaker 5: Jack Pilgrim Yesday reported Jaden Quaintance is back working with the team with the goal of playing in the postseason, which of course will be next week. He says he didn't say he would play, but that is the goal. This comes after yesterday where I think we all dismissed the idea that he would play. So what do you think about that, Drew? You think there's a chance he plays or is it like he's trying, He's gonna work out but probably not gonna play. 00:04:54 Speaker 4: What do you think? 00:04:56 Speaker 8: I'm still pretty skeptical, just because the calendar haven't started practicing yet. He's close to starting practice, and I mean they're gonna be going to Nashville a week from today, so how many really practices are left in the season. So I like that he's trying. I like the attitude, and if he can give him some minutes, I think that will be great. I know some minutes I would like for some people to take, but it just mathematically if you haven't practiced yet. I mean, the postseason starts next week. I just wonder how how conditioning wise and how ready can he can be when we only saw four games of him. 00:05:28 Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I'm I'm not skeptical of the report. I think that's what they what people want to be out there. I just I guess let's just let's just be very simple about it. Will he play a game at Kentucky again? 00:05:44 Speaker 4: Ryan? 00:05:45 Speaker 5: Did anything change yesterday? You said no? Does anything change your mind to today to yes? 00:05:51 Speaker 7: I still feel like it's no. Okay, Jack Pigman wouldn't have put it that out there without good information. Man, Like Drew said, We're in March, March, Madison start. Don't just kind of run some experiments here in March. You gotta go out and win the game. So my vote would be probably maybe get back on the court to do some drills, but he's not gonna play. 00:06:08 Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I tend to think no, But I also think that there is a they want people to think that he's trying, and I understand that. I think probably there might have been a little internal regret Drew about the Dad post this weekend, And you think that's maybe part of it. 00:06:28 Speaker 8: That if you want to have a conspiracy theory. Some mock drafts came out yesterday and in twenty ninth he had gone down quite a bit. I thought he's had the right attitude all year. Now I think when he came back and swelling came up and he wasn't used a way he kind of wanted to probably shutting it down. But if he's gonna try, I completely support it. I just think you're at the end of the year where it just seems impossible for him to make. 00:06:53 Speaker 4: You think it would have much of an impact. 00:06:55 Speaker 5: Like I feel like Cam Williams can come back and it would be an impact Jadan Quainton's I mean, certainly, okay, But I don't think that's really the issue for Kentucky going into the postseason. Like if I were to say to you, you could snap your fingers magically and get someone back, wouldn't you take Cam Williams. 00:07:17 Speaker 7: I think you would because Jaden quaints would probably just give you maybe what five six minutes a game, how much impact you'll be able to make in that short of run out there. 00:07:25 Speaker 5: Whereas but Cam Williams has something that we do not have the wing drew for me. 00:07:33 Speaker 4: I think Cam Williams would have a bigger impact. 00:07:36 Speaker 8: And even if Williams didn't even have much of an impact, that's just a position where you need more bodies, where if he gave you any minutes, yes, it could help out overall where I still want more minutes for yellow bit. There's bigs I want more minutes from right now, so I think they're more desperate to loot. 00:07:51 Speaker 4: Cam Williams can help, all right. 00:07:52 Speaker 5: So then the other thing is, I, you know, I don't know how you do this. How you I think there's a decent chance that there could be some big Kentucky athletics news today. If we followed the script of what always happens, it would be announced at like. 00:08:14 Speaker 6: Twelve oh five, yep, right for the show ends. 00:08:17 Speaker 5: That's generally speaking what happens. I like how Mario turned around and looked at the clock. Still the first segment, We're not to twelve oh five. First segments always tend to tend to ten twenty. Let me ask you, I mean I put out we have not as a group talked. I put out the thing last night on a KSR plus that I was hearing something would happen. Have you guys heard anything. We haven't talked about it, so let's see on your own. Have you heard anything? 00:08:52 Speaker 6: I have not. 00:08:53 Speaker 7: I've kind of hoped maybe you tease us a little bit about what you think might Actually I'm not. 00:08:56 Speaker 4: I don't like teasing you like you're not. 00:08:59 Speaker 3: That's weird. Don't ask me. 00:09:00 Speaker 5: Yeah, please don't ask me. I'm not gonna. I have no interest in teasing you. Right, No, so you have everything? What about you, Drew? 00:09:12 Speaker 8: I have heard something that would be on this timeline, but I did not hear it as recent as like yesterday to be on high alert. But I haven't been anticipating something yeah, some reasonably soon. 00:09:25 Speaker 5: So you know I mean the question, well, I mean, I think it's an important conversation, and since I think it's gonna come out at twelve oh five, but I also want the person to be able to make his own timeline. So I'll just say I think that there's likely to be an important transition coming and I'll just leave it at that. And if it does, I think it's I actually think it's the right time for it to happen, and I think it would be. 00:10:00 Speaker 4: Big deal for Kentucky Athletics. 00:10:02 Speaker 5: So I'll just leave it at that because you know, it is what it is, and I and I can't. I think I think I was gonna say it Channon, and then Ryan used. 00:10:11 Speaker 4: The word tease. 00:10:12 Speaker 5: Yeah, then it got weird and then it felt like it got weird and I just need to change the subject. 00:10:18 Speaker 7: Maybe we should go on extra coverage like we did with the Julius Randall. Wasn't Julius Randall, No. 00:10:22 Speaker 4: Harris Harrison Twins. 00:10:24 Speaker 5: We went, uh no, Actually, you're right, it was Julius Randall. We went long Harrison Twins. We came back on the air in the after we did a special episode where we said, first they split the Zygoat and now they're splitting defenders. The Harrison Twins are back. So so we'll leave it at that. I would just say, uh, I think there could. I do think there's gonna be news this week, and it could happen as soon as as today and in this afternoon. 00:10:51 Speaker 4: Let's go back to Texas. A and M Drew. 00:10:53 Speaker 9: Do you. 00:10:55 Speaker 5: Tell people, you know, the Bucky ball thing, why is it stopped working? You think my general view that when you're a pressing team like that, the novelty just wears off and people figure you out. 00:11:06 Speaker 8: That and their top twenty and a bunch of stats like threes, threes attempted, uh force and turnovers. But I think they padded their stats a lot earlier in the year. They're ranked high in scoring offense, but they had like four games in the non conference where they scored like around one hundred and twenty points. 00:11:24 Speaker 4: And they didn't play a great non conference yea, yeah, and which which was easier too, So I think they're getting into the tougher competition. Yeah. And that's also why they're on the. 00:11:35 Speaker 5: Bubble line and the Bible is because they have these they don't have a ton of losses, but they didn't really play a ton of good teams in the non conference. 00:11:43 Speaker 8: They opened the SEC with like lsu Ole miss Mississippi State, so they were seven and one and in first place for a long time. But even kind of with the non conference, I think they were doing a lot of their work early and now they ran into all the buzz sauce. 00:11:56 Speaker 5: Yeah, all right, so let's talk about what happens if we win. Okay, if Kentucky were to win, we are now ten and six in conference let's say we go to eleven and six. All right, If you're eleven and six in the conference, you have a chance to not only be a six seed, but I think you have a chance if you were to upset Florida, to be like a five seed, which really would be amazing when I thought if we lost a couple of games, like three games ago, we'd be on the bubble. You win tonight, you're probably going to be a five six seed in the SEC Tournament, which gives you a path potentially to make a run. You win tonight, you're guaranteed that twenty win season that we've talked a lot about over the years. You win tonight, you go into this game against Florida with some momentum, a chance to pull off an upset, a chance to maybe even depending on what happens in the Arkansas games, if you were to beat Florida, you could get all the way up to a three seed in the SEC Tournament, which is crazy if you think about it. This is a game with a potential to really like you've kind of made it to where you've got a puncher's chance in March, but now you have a chance to have a puncher's chance after having a good seed, Ryan, this could be a huge victory for Kentucky if they could get. 00:13:29 Speaker 7: It, which is just crazy. It's been such a topsy turvy season this time. Last week, we're talking about trying not to play on Wednesday in the first round of the SEC Tournament. Now we got a puncher's chance to maybe getting up with a three seed in the SEC Tournament if they can pull off these two wins. I worry that the game is almost bigger for Texas A and M though. Isn't it like they need it for their own. 00:13:47 Speaker 5: It is, But you know what, people can get nervous sometimes, Drew. They stand up for their big shot and then we can, you know, we can come in and they play nervous and next thing, you know, we win the game. 00:14:00 Speaker 8: Yeah, you could say the same thing. Last Saturday, they were at home playing Texas. Yeah a team they should be. I don't remember the point spread. I assumed they were slightly favored, and you know, you lose that one. So they've already had their back against the wall a little bit. They've lost six out of eight games here recently, so I still like Kentucky coming into this, especially as hot as Kentucky played last Saturday, and they've played well on the road a lot of times this year too. 00:14:23 Speaker 4: Yeah. 00:14:23 Speaker 5: Well eight five, nine, two eighth, twenty two eighty seven. We'll get you ready for Kentucky A and M. We will take your calls. I'm in studio so I can see the names, Shannon, so I can pick people that look like they would be fun to talk to, and then save Bob and Jamestown for a time at the very end or now, yes. 00:14:43 Speaker 3: Poor Bob, Yes, leave a lot hol over two hours. 00:14:46 Speaker 4: Yeah. 00:14:46 Speaker 5: Let me also say this, by the way, on my my scuttle. But if it's not today, that's okay. But I I'm hearing could be today, but I do think this week. 00:14:57 Speaker 3: Stop teasing Ryan, will you. 00:14:59 Speaker 4: It's it's just what we do. He's just over here, up here. 00:15:03 Speaker 5: It's just it's it's just it's uh, it's just he's right here and I can't help it. We'll take a break, be right back, kiss, welcome back. Take you sports radio. If I'm nine two eight twenty two eighty seven. Text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five four person Rights Mad is the announcement that Amy McGrath is a mother, a fighter pilot and running for senate. Now that wrote that's that's that announcement's been made many times every time, although you. 00:15:29 Speaker 4: Don't see as many commercials. No now now I used to now, Nate Morris. 00:15:34 Speaker 3: I know that name. I didn't know who that was six weeks. 00:15:37 Speaker 5: Well, that's why they do it. I would, But like I said yesterday, Nate, calm him down. Just I'm trying to watch the game. 00:15:45 Speaker 6: And we have the commercials him or Andy Barr back to back. 00:15:47 Speaker 3: Sometimes even on YouTube, you get on. I'm just trying to watch the music video. 00:15:51 Speaker 5: I I would vote against both of them, just on principle. 00:15:55 Speaker 4: Leave me alone. 00:15:56 Speaker 8: See, I'm that those people exist, and I'm one of them. The more you bother me, I don't. You could be the perfect candidate. If I get tired of seeing you during my games, You're out. I'm going to the next person on the ballot. 00:16:06 Speaker 4: You're out. That's right. You can have too much of you on my television, and Nate is already there. 00:16:12 Speaker 5: Nate uh text machine seven seven two seven seven four five two five for it. One person writes, Matt, if you're not gonna say what the news is, why do you even talk about it because that is what content is. You talk about something and then let people, you know, let people uh know something could be happening. Listen, Like, if you want just the facts, sir, then go read the newspaper. And there's not a lot of you that do that, like unfortunately. So that's that's just conversation. I'm just you know, it's and there's also when it happens, I'll tell you as well, why why that's the case. 00:16:50 Speaker 4: So that's that's why. 00:16:51 Speaker 5: And like I and as I, as I said online last night when I wrote it, you know, Ryan, you and I come from an era like speculation is part of what's being fun about sports, right is who's going to be the coach? What is the time with the most listeners to KSR. Mostly our listeners stay the same during the year, but the one thing that will always spike it is a coaching search. Absolutely, that's the thing that people care about the most. And now portal season is becoming like that, are we going to get this guy? Who's Ryan going to guarantee that we're getting that we don't get because people, I think, like Drew, speculation and what's going to happen. 00:17:32 Speaker 4: That's part of being a fan. 00:17:33 Speaker 8: It wouldn't be that fun if we just all turned off the TV when the game's were over and just waited until the next. 00:17:39 Speaker 5: Time again that but I don't think that's as much fun. Now, before we go to the phones, Mark Stoops has a new job. I saw that Mark Stoops is going to become the new special assistant at Texas. He will, it's hard. He will be I guess a consultant, which is what they're kind of doing now for former coaches as they kind of have a stop off in between their jobs. Texas has a bunch of those guys. Ryan, what do you think about Stoops in Texas? By the way, does not get rid of any of the salary obligation we have towards I know people ask that question. I don't know if he's getting paid or not, but I've been told doesn't change the amount. 00:18:21 Speaker 7: Uk Wallawick, Yeah, that's the first question I had. Is an effective buy out for Kentucky? But apparently it doesn't. But it tells me he's not done with coaching. I mean, I really thought maybe he may write off in the sunset and have his bourbon business, but he's obviously kind of still as hard as still maybe being even a head coach again someday, I think, and. 00:18:38 Speaker 5: Those jobs drew, they can be very different. It can be a job where you're there full time, you're essentially a member of the staff. He can also be a job where you're there during the season and you're just doing game prep. Like every consultant job is different. Some of them are intense and some of them are less intense. And I don't know which one this will be, so I don't know what type of consultant it is. 00:19:02 Speaker 4: But I'm happy for Mark. 00:19:05 Speaker 5: We play them this year, so that'll be kind of weird seeing him on the other side of the field, but I'm happy for him that that will help him get towards, uh, you know, getting back into the business. 00:19:15 Speaker 8: Yeah, we won't have to. I don't think we play him till next year. So he didn't go to a direct. 00:19:20 Speaker 4: We don't play him this we play Oklahoma. 00:19:23 Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I figured he might do this. I was actually looking for him to do Georgia, being so close he is to Kirby. But I think Texas is a good fit. On Texas's end, I completely know why they went and got stoops. They're zero and three against Georgia. Since being in the SEC and stoops even though he never got him, his defense has played Kirby pretty well most years, and then even played Texas over time last year. So you bring him in to self scout your own team and to help maybe get you over the hump if you happen to run into Georgia again. 00:19:53 Speaker 5: I mean, it's funny how different the world would be if they had just converted that one of the touchdown against Texas. 00:19:59 Speaker 7: No doubt could I might still be here, might still be the coach here if they had scored right there. 00:20:06 Speaker 4: So, uh, were you surprised that he took this position? Not really? 00:20:09 Speaker 5: I mean I don't think he's like I don't think he's like permanently moving from Lexington still now. If I hear he's moving to Austin, he's like full time joining the staff all that all the time, then then. 00:20:23 Speaker 4: That might surprise me a little bit. 00:20:24 Speaker 5: But I think he'll do the job where he's there during the season and practice. And but I would I think his bass Ryan is still going to be here. 00:20:33 Speaker 7: Well, like I said, just keep his fingers out there. Maybe he you know, next year he'll be a head coach where he'll be a head coach again, I do. I don't know when, but I think he will and I hope he is. I'll root for his team wherever he goes. Isaiah, what's up, Isaiah? 00:20:49 Speaker 10: Hey man, listen. I just want to quote Mark Polk and say, I am mother believe being excited. I'm so optimistic right now with the news of Cam and JQ possibly returning. 00:20:58 Speaker 4: Do you think they will? 00:20:59 Speaker 5: I mean you're optimistic, Like, do you feel like that could happen or do you think it's just chat. 00:21:05 Speaker 10: I think it's I think it could because and and and maybe he's not like super impactful, but on a game to game situation, matchups and everything, if you asked Jake to go get a stop, I mean, he's a defensive monster. I think I just think he could help us in that sense. 00:21:22 Speaker 11: Uh. 00:21:22 Speaker 10: Jack Cobram Uh talked to Malaka's brother last night on sources say, uh, and and I thought it was a really good piece. I encourage everybody to listen to it was going to come back. 00:21:32 Speaker 4: That's what I want to know. 00:21:35 Speaker 10: Uh. I think I think it's possible. 00:21:38 Speaker 4: But what I thought it was very poss not an answer. What did he say, I didn't hear it. 00:21:47 Speaker 10: Well, basically with with j Q, he's just saying, you know, every. 00:21:50 Speaker 4: Game it's his malaka sorry, and then of course we lose him. 00:22:00 Speaker 6: I wish, Wow, what a cliffhanger going on there. 00:22:03 Speaker 3: I learned nothing from that. 00:22:05 Speaker 4: His phone didn't work. I got excited. 00:22:07 Speaker 5: What did Michael Moreno say, Because, by the way, I think Drew, that's the most important thing for next year? Are you getting Malachi Moreno back? Moreno and Chandler promised me they come back, and that's a great head start for next year. 00:22:21 Speaker 8: And Moreno, well both of them, but Moreno especially his phone's gonna be ringing a lot because there's not a lot of those guys that'll be coming back to college basketball. So I don't know. They've already been having these conversations behind the scenes. If you haven't got it done, lock it up soon, so there's no temptation once the season. 00:22:36 Speaker 6: Is kind of underpaid for him last year, they don't have to overpay this year. 00:22:39 Speaker 4: They did under That's fine, though, do it. 00:22:42 Speaker 6: Yep. 00:22:42 Speaker 5: You can't let a kid from Scott County get out of the state and go somewhere else. 00:22:48 Speaker 4: If he goes to draft. That's one thing. But he can't. 00:22:51 Speaker 5: You can't have him go to another college. We'll take a break. Be right back. 00:22:55 Speaker 4: It's KSR TJ. Smith Personal injury attorney call. He'll make them pay. 00:23:01 Speaker 2: Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio present it by Stockton Mortgage. 00:23:05 Speaker 3: Here's Matt Jones. 00:23:06 Speaker 4: Welcome back. 00:23:09 Speaker 5: Yeah, we're not going to Austin, but we're going close. Well stoops, is that's true? 00:23:15 Speaker 3: Yeah? 00:23:15 Speaker 4: This is you know what? 00:23:16 Speaker 3: This isn't for you? 00:23:17 Speaker 4: Why do I? 00:23:18 Speaker 3: Why do I? 00:23:18 Speaker 4: Why do I? Why do I question? You're right? 00:23:21 Speaker 5: I should have should have known. Shannon knows eighty seven. All right, So tomorrow we're gonna have on Cash Daniel for a little bit. He's got wrestling on Friday. Ovw is in Lexington Friday. Shannon, are you wrestling? 00:23:39 Speaker 3: I have no idea, but if Cash wants to rumble, I'll get in there. 00:23:43 Speaker 4: Way I'm here. I'd heard it might be Cash versus Shannon. 00:23:46 Speaker 3: If he wants something, he can bring it. I know every I know every trick in the book. 00:23:52 Speaker 5: He's probably weighs one hundred and twenty five pounds more than. 00:23:56 Speaker 3: Yeah, but it doesn't have much between the ears. He's a little dull takes three seconds to win. 00:24:02 Speaker 6: Oh no, yeah, we're gonna throw Saltney's eyes behind. 00:24:06 Speaker 5: All right, so we have so but it's not just Shannon and Cash. I believe Ryan, Willie Cauley Stein is gonna be there. 00:24:14 Speaker 6: Yes, yeah, who else? 00:24:17 Speaker 5: Khalil Whitney. Khalil Whitney is gonna be there. 00:24:20 Speaker 7: There's a chance gonna be several former UK football and basketball players there for like meet and greets. 00:24:26 Speaker 5: So, uh, that's Friday night. Where is it Friday? I should know this the Alumni Center. So Friday night at the Alumni Center ov w good chance to bring out your family and there will be lots of former UK players there. Cash will be wrestling, Shannon is gonna get beat up, and then there's gonna be Willie and other people there and they may even be involved in somehow I I uh, I don't know. Do you know how happy Ryan's gonna be that Jasper is there? 00:25:30 Speaker 6: Both my both my boys are there and sons. 00:25:33 Speaker 5: So Jasper and Malachi will be at the at the remote Friday. So a lot going on in Lexington on Friday, Jasper, Malachi during the day, Willie Cash, Shannon at night. 00:25:45 Speaker 4: I would love to see that poster. Just see those guys and then they're Shannon one. 00:25:51 Speaker 6: Plays. 00:25:52 Speaker 7: Yeah, Blue Ground plays in Saturday night in Lexington, Lexington Saturday. 00:25:57 Speaker 4: You're at ten Roof Saturday night. 00:25:58 Speaker 3: I want to stay in Lexington all weekend. 00:26:00 Speaker 4: Yeah, oh I may. I may make a Tin Roof appearance. 00:26:03 Speaker 3: What time do you play seven? Seven? Until about ten thirty? 00:26:06 Speaker 5: I think, oh, the game's at four though, right, I could do the postgame show though. 00:26:11 Speaker 4: Come on, let's go, you know, if we win. I might go do the postgame show outside too. 00:26:18 Speaker 5: Wow, you should do that if we if we lose, I'll come after it. 00:26:22 Speaker 4: But that would be funny. All right. 00:26:24 Speaker 5: Well that's that is an exciting weekend. Might be social for the first time in a long time. The high school regionals start, well they I think one of them. Sorry, but a lot are tonight, Ryan, games all over the place. You and I are gonna go with Mario Drew. I don't you haven't heard if you're going yet? Are you going to the I'm unable. I'm unable to go. I'll go to Middlesborough, but can't make the game. All right, so that was supposed to be a surprise show. 00:26:48 Speaker 4: But well done. Yes, drop it? Okay, Oh my bad, there we go. Did you get it? Yeah? 00:26:55 Speaker 3: Okay, remind me to take it out of the podcast. 00:26:58 Speaker 5: And take it out of the podcast, all right, Ryan and I are going to the thirteenth Region tournament on Wednesday night to see to see thirteenth Region games. 00:27:09 Speaker 4: You excited about that? Ryan? 00:27:11 Speaker 7: We fell in love with the thirteenth three tournament a couple years ago and they let us do some color commentary and play by play down there. 00:27:16 Speaker 6: I love it. 00:27:17 Speaker 7: I love the fact where it is at the arena, the Corbyn Arena. You told me that Pineville even won the district the first I. 00:27:22 Speaker 5: Haven't played in the regional tournament since, like who knows, they're in it in Bell County and we're going to go both. 00:27:28 Speaker 6: How about that? 00:27:28 Speaker 4: So we will be in Corbin Wednesday night. 00:27:30 Speaker 8: So I like how they bring those big coal trucks out at the entrance for the players for Region thirteen. Remember they'd run through those with the r they run through the cold picks setup. Yeah, so we will be there Wednesday night. Let's go to Todd. Go ahead, Todd. 00:27:44 Speaker 12: Hey man, I was just touching up on what you and you were talking about having JQ back or Cam Williams, And I mean if I when they would come back, it'd be the lottery pick. Jaden Quainton's I mean, uham Way. I mean, our guards are playing so good right now. It'd be nice to have more, but. 00:28:05 Speaker 4: But we have four bigs. 00:28:07 Speaker 5: We have four bigs for two positions, and we really have three guards for three positions. 00:28:14 Speaker 12: I get that, but I mean the less I see you, Brandon Garrison, the better. 00:28:18 Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I know what you mean. 00:28:19 Speaker 5: But like, we have really no consistent reserves in the backcourt. Don't you think having one would be helpful? 00:28:28 Speaker 10: You're yeah, You're right. 00:28:29 Speaker 12: I mean, let's just give him both back. 00:28:31 Speaker 4: All right? Did that? 00:28:32 Speaker 5: Shannon tells me that you call with fake names, Todd, that he's accusing you of that. 00:28:38 Speaker 11: Is that true the first time I called? 00:28:41 Speaker 12: The first time I called was the postgame of Texas and there was like three Michaels and I was like, well, I'm just going to say my middle name, so, uh, that's what I did. 00:28:51 Speaker 4: All right? Does that? Does that satisfy your question? Shannon? 00:28:54 Speaker 3: Well, I mean he's not the only one. 00:28:56 Speaker 2: A lot of people will seem to have identity crisis when they call in. 00:28:59 Speaker 5: I mean, was the thing is when people call, we can see we can see your. 00:29:03 Speaker 3: Name, Yeah, And I ask you what your name is and it's. 00:29:05 Speaker 4: Like, but we can see it. Yeah, Like it comes up. 00:29:08 Speaker 3: I'm Fred, and then the names that comes up as Mike. I'm like, well, did you used to be Mike? Or you Fred? Or who are you? Do you know who you are? 00:29:15 Speaker 10: Yes? 00:29:15 Speaker 11: I do. 00:29:15 Speaker 12: I'm putting one hundred on cash Daniels on Friday. 00:29:20 Speaker 4: I like that, now you tied I'm on your side. 00:29:23 Speaker 3: I'll just come out and say my name is Todd. I'm not really saying him. 00:29:26 Speaker 4: Let's go to Howie Howie, go ahead, Dowie. 00:29:30 Speaker 11: Yes, sir man, I just wondering if you had any thoughts or ideas when Mitch Barnhart might retire. 00:29:38 Speaker 4: I mean, things can happen. 00:29:45 Speaker 11: Maybe here's the week or next week. 00:29:47 Speaker 5: So eight five, nine, eight, twenty two eighty seven text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four. I think what will be interesting whenever it is that Mitch Barnhardt were to make a decision to leave. I think, Ryan, the real question is what comes next? 00:30:04 Speaker 4: Right? I mean to me, that's the question. 00:30:07 Speaker 5: Do you hire within that would they already know who the person's gonna be? Do you do a search around the country? To me, the day Mitch Barnhart leaves, and I think Mitch Barnhart has done an amazing job at Kentucky over. 00:30:21 Speaker 4: The course of his career. 00:30:22 Speaker 5: But the day he leaves, the main question to me is Okay, what's next? I think the day he leaves, you take a minute to celebrate what has been the longest serving ad in UK's history and a very successful one and then you go okay, but what's next? That to me is the most important question. 00:30:42 Speaker 7: Yeah, not just the longest ad in UK history. He's the longest ad currently in the Southeastern Conference. He's had unbelievable success. That's a big chair to fill. Whoever they go out and hire. You know, when Siam Newton left they did hire with them and the Larry Ivy, and then when Larry Ivy left they had they went outside and got mitched. So it's it seems like almost need to bring somebody from the outside for a breath the fresh air. 00:31:00 Speaker 6: A lot of times, but not this time. He's done a great job, get set in the table. 00:31:04 Speaker 4: What do you mean not this time? 00:31:06 Speaker 7: I think this time he's got he's done such a great job setting the table. Maybe one of his people within would just be able to step in and continue what he's What you would do, That's probably what I would do. 00:31:15 Speaker 5: Yeah, Well, when that conversation comes, we'll talk about who's let's go to Derek. 00:31:20 Speaker 13: Go ahead, Derek, Hey, Matt, just calling with the fast related to that thing last week with the Scotus dot net guy or whatever in the poker games. Yes, there's a movie called Molly's Game. 00:31:35 Speaker 4: I've seen it. I've seen it. 00:31:37 Speaker 13: Yeah, and Peter Parker, I guess, Toby Maguire, I guess he's one of the main characters they're referencing in that movie, so I wonder if this guy played a new role in that. But secondly, I was just gonna ask, you're gonna watch the World Baseball Classic. 00:31:51 Speaker 4: I think I will. 00:31:52 Speaker 5: I mean, I appreciate the call. I never totally understand what the World Baseball Classic like. 00:31:57 Speaker 4: Some of the guys play some of them. 00:32:00 Speaker 5: But I do think when you get a big game, when you get like Japan versus the United States or the Dominican Republic versus the United States, I do find it very entertaining and uh so. 00:32:11 Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll probably probably watch it. 00:32:13 Speaker 5: I don't think any of the Reds are playing, But Drew, will you watch the World Baseball Classic? 00:32:18 Speaker 10: Yeah? 00:32:18 Speaker 4: If the Americans getting a big game, O will. 00:32:20 Speaker 10: Uh. 00:32:20 Speaker 8: Sometimes I come off as a baseball hater, but it's just the length of the season. Any you know, playoffs or any meaningful game, Olympics, something like the World Baseball Classic. I'll absolutely tune in. 00:32:29 Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm uh. 00:32:32 Speaker 5: Send, And I've already looked like the Reds are probably winning one hundred and. 00:32:36 Speaker 3: Ten games really based off what. 00:32:41 Speaker 4: Well, I mean the line up. Oh, I mean they're hitting, are they? Matt McClain had two mic bags like yesterday. He needs to. 00:32:49 Speaker 6: Have have a re game. 00:32:51 Speaker 3: Yeah, you're basing this off spring training. 00:32:54 Speaker 4: Oh so spring training is crucial. Yeah. 00:32:56 Speaker 3: So he probably got those hits off a guy that was in double A ball. 00:32:58 Speaker 4: Yeah, but he hit it so hard. 00:33:03 Speaker 5: Well, you know it's this is the summer of Alley, Yeah, leading into the to the uh, the rise of sal Do. 00:33:11 Speaker 8: You know what they're do you know what their wind total is on DraftKings and eighth No, you should definitely better If you think it's gonna be hundred and eight, it's eighty one. 00:33:20 Speaker 4: So I mean you got a cushion there. That's five hundred over. We're winning. 00:33:27 Speaker 5: Dodgers need to watch out there's they's got all kinds of guys, and they got Brady Singer. 00:33:33 Speaker 3: You gotta watch out for him. 00:33:36 Speaker 5: I've got all the Bobblehead days. They're having a Harry Potter day. I'm skipping that one. 00:33:40 Speaker 3: Yeah. 00:33:41 Speaker 4: Stop over paying for sunglasses. 00:33:42 Speaker 5: If you're tired of buying expensive sunglasses only to lose or break them, or where you don't even wear them. Shady Rays, independent American owned company, start right here in Kentucky, premium polarized shades for every activity. Every member of the family can find their perfect pair. It is Shady Rays or Shady Rays. Go to check it out. Kentucky company with the best sunglasses, Shady Race. We'll take a break right back, KSI, welcome back. Excuse me, it is Kentucky Sports Radio. If I'm nine two eight twenty two eighty seven. We have some breaking news. 00:34:20 Speaker 4: Running. No there we go. Took a minute, Yes it did. 00:34:24 Speaker 5: John Pelfrey has been dismissed as the coach of the Tennessee Tech basketball team. They are the first team to make a change here in the college basketball season. They will not be their last. Sad to see that, Ryan, He's not done very well there. That is a very difficult job. But Pelfrey is out at Tennessee Tech. 00:34:44 Speaker 7: I haven't followed Tennessee Tech. I guess I assume they must have had a bad season. But you know, when he was a South Alabama he was as hot as name as anybody. 00:34:51 Speaker 6: Then he goes to Arkansas, didn't have any success. 00:34:55 Speaker 7: Assistant coach again for a long time, got this second chance to be ahead coaching job. So he's running out of option, I think, right out of trying to maybe finally win a good head coaching job. 00:35:03 Speaker 5: Yeah, sorry to see that. I like John, but uh, you know, you gotta win. And you're right. He did a great job to start his career, but drew since then. It really hasn't gone very well. You know, Kentucky beat them by fifty this year. Maybe some responsibility, maybe a little bit on UK I doubt, but that was really the game that did him in. But yeah, guess it was cool he got that moment to come back here. You can't have that even though the season didn't going well for him. That's too bad. One person rights, Matt. You and Shannon should know that. You guys were the top topic of the Southland group text yesterday. Oh really someone admitted to listening although everyone else said they didn't, And so everyone is wondering what you said, even though they can't turn it on. Yeah, we may need to do you know how in uh you know how, Shannon, they in when we're in war in places back in the Cold War, we would like send radio signals into Russia with our propaganda. 00:36:08 Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that to the church, you're saying. 00:36:10 Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know how you do that though. How do we send like morse code to the Southland church members about what's going on? 00:36:17 Speaker 2: Yeah, they could read the transcript of the show. 00:36:20 Speaker 3: That wouldn't be the same, would it. There's listening. 00:36:23 Speaker 4: Oh that's interesting. It's not because everything on there said listen. Yeah. 00:36:27 Speaker 2: If you go to the iHeart app and go on there, you can read the transcript of the show. 00:36:31 Speaker 4: That's interesting loophole. 00:36:33 Speaker 5: I also heard through the grape vine the Southland minister is the U of l fan. 00:36:40 Speaker 3: I've never a boot A minister, but I think we should boove them now. 00:36:43 Speaker 5: I'm sure he's a wonderful guy, but do you think that you think that could have something to do with it? 00:36:49 Speaker 8: Drew going into March. Yeah, I gotta be careful here. I don't want to say anything inappropriate, but that does raise some concerns. Also tuning out a Kentucky show this time of year. Yes, with your Louisville leader Fishy. 00:37:04 Speaker 5: I'm just saying, speaking of Fishy during lymp I walked by like five Catholic churches on my walk Friday night. You want to talk about something. They love their fish fries on Fridays during Lent. 00:37:19 Speaker 4: Those are parties in Louisville. 00:37:23 Speaker 5: I walked by literally maybe not five, but three or four, and they were shinning. 00:37:27 Speaker 4: There were people everywhere. 00:37:28 Speaker 3: I'm not even Catholic. I go to the fish fries just to party with them during Lent. 00:37:32 Speaker 4: Yeah, did you go this week? 00:37:34 Speaker 3: No? 00:37:34 Speaker 2: But I have in the past, pull tabs and beer and fish. 00:37:38 Speaker 3: Come on, man, it's fun. 00:37:40 Speaker 4: I've ever been. But they talk about it like it's spring break. 00:37:43 Speaker 5: Yes they did, but what what like is that? I'm for it, like have a good reason to have fun. But is that? Does that Easter related? It's like, let's do pull tabs? 00:37:54 Speaker 4: Like jack? Was that in? Was that in Isaiah? Did I not read that verse? 00:37:59 Speaker 2: Jesus was big on the lottery. I love the lottery gambler. 00:38:04 Speaker 5: Yeah, well, anyway, I look official, look good. I almost went and like. 00:38:08 Speaker 3: It's in the New Testament. You should look it up. 00:38:10 Speaker 4: Well, I don't have that one Testament. Okay, Austin, go ahead, Austin. 00:38:17 Speaker 11: Hey, Matt, can you hear me? 00:38:19 Speaker 4: Yes? 00:38:21 Speaker 11: Hey, I wanted to comment on the jquh potential return, and I just I have a quick you know, a couple of points I wanted to. 00:38:30 Speaker 4: Hit quickly, quickly, Yeah, number one. 00:38:34 Speaker 11: So, like, you got a guy, and listen, I'm all for it. If he wants to come in and contribute and help the team win, I'm all for it. But you got a guy who theoretically hasn't done anything in what month and a half, two months, and then he comes into a game just out of nowhere, and he's expected to. 00:38:56 Speaker 5: Perform, and and it's going to be against a really good teams. Like, I'm with you. That's why I don't think. That's why I don't think it's going to be that big thing. What's your second thing? Real quick? 00:39:07 Speaker 11: Yeah, so like you know, within that rotation, like you put him in, and really it's just it just needs to be for Balaki to get like a little break and then put him back in because in the reality, he's just not going to be used to the defensive rotations. 00:39:22 Speaker 4: I agree with you. I appreciate the call. 00:39:24 Speaker 5: That's why for me, Cam's a bigger deal because what he does is not as easily replicated. Let's go to Ben, go ahead. 00:39:32 Speaker 9: Ben, Hey, Matt, So I just want to say, with all the Jade Quainton's talk. I agree with the Cam Williams idea, but I'm my question is, what's the chance that Jadan Quaintons could return next season for a while. 00:39:47 Speaker 5: I would think Zra. I would think Zerra, really he will get picked in the first round. And if he's already been injured once Drew, I just don't know that you can you can risk it again, would you? 00:40:00 Speaker 2: No? 00:40:00 Speaker 8: No, no, And he slipped a little bit on like a mock draft maybe two yesterday. But he's still in that lottery conversation. Even if he's sliding a little bit. I mean, someone will definitely take him in the first round. He had a chance to go fourth or fifth. 00:40:15 Speaker 5: Now he might go tenth through fifteenth, but I would be shocked if he got taken after that. 00:40:23 Speaker 7: You still take it, Yeah, if you're Jaden Quainton, you still go. If you're ten to fifteen, you slept a little bit, but you're still gonna take that. 00:40:29 Speaker 4: That's what I would do. Let's go to Matt. 00:40:31 Speaker 14: Go ahead, Matt, Hey, guys, yes, first time caller. 00:40:38 Speaker 4: Who ah. 00:40:40 Speaker 14: I live in Louisiana and I've got some friends that I worked with or heading over to college Station the night, and I wondered if you got there taking their son for a birthday. Yes, I believe he's twelve or thirteen. And I wonder if you guys had any advice for some first time fans going to their first game at College Station. 00:40:54 Speaker 5: First of all, first time a road game is the most fun if you win. And remember if we win, if you go down to the next to the UK bench, usually the team and the players will come out and greet the fans and you actually can get some pretty good access. 00:41:09 Speaker 4: So if we win, do that. 00:41:11 Speaker 5: As far as College Station, it is hard to park there, so make sure they get there early. And there is a there's a place that everybody goes, and you probably need to go early to get there. It's like burgers and barbecue. It's like the campus spot, probably four or five blocks from the arena. It'll be a lot of people, but the food is really good and it goes quick. And I wish I could give you the name. Somebody will give it to me on the text machine. But somebody told me that place, and I highly recommend it. I can't somebody will write it for me, but but it is. I appreciate the call. It can be hard to park there because it's on campus and it's kind of like hidden, well not hidden, but it's just it's not an easy place to get in and out of. 00:41:53 Speaker 4: So just be prepared to get there early and probably walk. 00:41:57 Speaker 7: People who've gone down there said Texas A and M fans are the best in the SEC, So. 00:42:01 Speaker 5: Yeah, they were good when I was there, and I was there, like I said twenty twenty two, I think, and it was a blast eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. We will take a break, come back our number two. A lot to uh to get to, including what's the SEC tournament looked like for Kentucky. 00:42:18 Speaker 4: Be right back
