Thursday, January the twenty third. I'm Matt Jones on like our twenty fifth consecutive frigid day here in Kentucky. It's I think's supposed to get a little bit warmer over the next couple of days, but it's, uh, it's a little you know, I think I think I'm over it now. You know. I enjoyed the snow, enjoyed the ice, but like there comes a point that's enough. 00:01:00 Speaker 5: Heat way right now, we've gone from one to twenty one. I mean it's a big jump. 00:01:03 Speaker 4: It snowed. Uh, it's so nine inches in New Orleans. That has to feel like say that can't be right. Clark's Pumping Shop full line A five nine two eighth twenty two eighty seven A Vision Auto Glass text machine is seven seven two seven seven four five two five four. In the audition sponsor about TJ Smith Office, you called TJ. He'll make them pay. We'll be taking your calls all day. Shannon, I want to thank you yesterday got a lot of compliments about you and that co host Row. You were rocking and rolling there. 00:01:31 Speaker 3: Well, that was a lot of fun. 00:01:33 Speaker 2: But you know, your interview with Jay I think just was the best part about it. 00:01:37 Speaker 3: No doubt the interview. 00:01:38 Speaker 4: It was certainly the most talked about part about it. But you, I thought you did great. I went back. I don't know, I don't usually go back and listen to the show, but I had to drive to Louisville, so I did, and I thought you did a great job. And we missed you. Two who are back? Ryan was on a campus visit to Hanover. Uh did you feel like you were back in college? 00:01:57 Speaker 5: I we ate in the college cafeteria. I was there with all the students eat lunch. 00:02:01 Speaker 4: It's so much better than when we were in school. 00:02:03 Speaker 5: Well, they had a buffets, they had a salad bar. I can't remember the last time I even saw a salad bar. 00:02:08 Speaker 4: So, yeah, I love a good sound. I know, what's the place over here, Jason's del He's like the last place I think of where you can get COVID. They've all gone. Yeah, the when I sometimes, you know, Georgetown, my class was at one thirty. It's got moved up to once so it's hard for me to get there now to eat. But when it was at one thirty, I'd go in their cafeteria and eat. And it's crazy how good it is these kids today. They have it so good and they don't even know it. 00:02:33 Speaker 5: Yeah, they had, and all the different choices, different lines to get in. It was amazing. So thank you Drew. 00:02:39 Speaker 4: You were in Nashville, Yes, everything solid with the ON three World. 00:02:43 Speaker 6: Saw lots of power points, lots of spreadsheets, met people from other fan sites. You know, I've been doing this job over fifteen years, but we never interact. So I actually felt like I was part of a big, bigger company. 00:02:55 Speaker 4: But were you like you were kind of the king though, because like KSR just we dwarf. 00:02:59 Speaker 6: Fall up, I mean look down on all of them. Yeah, no, no, it was really fun. We had lots of fun, but it was a lot of like being a part of a business. Look at this presentation session three, we're going to talk about this. 00:03:09 Speaker 4: Yeah, when I owned it, it wasn't but I did. We didn't do any spreadsheets. It was like, hey, the site has crashed again. Can we call them again and see if we can fix it? So, uh, we got in here. We're at KOs bar and Grill. We got Letcher County, we got Barberville, and we got Everts. Look at this. How about that? This is Eastern Kentucky in the house. 00:03:32 Speaker 5: Here, and we're supposed to get more Eastern Kentucky people here later this morning. 00:03:35 Speaker 4: Yeah, the South Laurel KSR Club is coming, which we'll see. Are they big KSR fans or did they just the bus or did they just want out of school? Hello there, Laurel County. It's a big bus for this, it's a big bus. I think it'd be funny if they have that big bus and like three kids. But nevertheless, it were excited to have them here. Uh as Shannon mentioned yesterday had Jay Williams that seemed to be the talk of the internet yesterday sort of, Well, first of all, you guys weren't here, Uh what was your take on it? From afar? 00:04:11 Speaker 5: I really liked Jason Williams start with, because j Yeah. 00:04:16 Speaker 4: Yeah, Jason was. He hasn't been that in twenty years. 00:04:19 Speaker 7: There were too many of those in basketball. 00:04:20 Speaker 4: Yeah, there was too many, and one of them like got charged with murder. So I think he changed his ess. I think he changed his name to Jay after that. 00:04:26 Speaker 5: I've always liked him since he found my wallet at Repperina and gave it to you at the cow camp like five. 00:04:30 Speaker 4: Or six years ago. So I forgot about that. Yeah, that's right, he did. He did find you. Yeah, so I respect. 00:04:35 Speaker 5: Him because he knew coming on MJ was going to do MJ and MJ was going to come after. 00:04:40 Speaker 4: It seemed to be really focused on him calling me MJ. I've never heard anybody call you MJ. But you guys are boys, you good boys, so you're MJ. He had to know you're gonna come out there. 00:04:49 Speaker 5: And there were times like I felt like he was a suspect on the witness stand and you were giving him a cross examination at all. That's where I, one PC would have been underneath this table if I was sitting there beside you. 00:04:58 Speaker 4: Yes, and for. 00:04:59 Speaker 5: Him, he act like I felt like he was kind of Shannon said this talking in circles, trying to defend himself, but never really we're saying the right things. But the way it ended made me feel pretty good about it. 00:05:09 Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought he did himself Like it seemed like people's reaction for the most part was positive towards him. At the end. I think he did himself a favor. He did coming on. You know, he's used to this whole like first take world, so like he loved it. When it was over, he was sitting in me like fire emojis like that was great. Like he I mean, I think he's just kind of used to that whole thing, and so he was. He was, he was loving it. What did you think about it, Drew? Yeah, here they come. Boy, Now there's a lot. Wow, this is quite a group. Okay, there's a big power. Are you all? Yes, just have a seat wherever you got you all could take those Yeah, there's all those tables over there. Yeah, but go ahead. 00:05:51 Speaker 6: I'm with Ryan, not to take away from the content. I couldn't believe how many times he called you in jail. 00:05:55 Speaker 7: And I have been texted someone. 00:05:57 Speaker 6: I was like, I can't pay attention because he just keeps saying him J Jay Billis was JB. Yeah, I guess that's just what he does. But that was throwing me off. I'm with I saw most of the online reaction. I think everyone kind of on the same page. It was good he did if I have a J JW complaint. He acted like he wasn't insinuating that Kentucky was in a bad spot when Cal left. 00:06:18 Speaker 7: He was definitely on that. 00:06:19 Speaker 4: He was definitely. He was like, no, I was just saying he was definitely in that part. 00:06:24 Speaker 7: He was twisting his words a little bit. We weren't falling for it. 00:06:26 Speaker 6: We all know he was saying, who you gonna get like Cal's leaving, and then yesterday he was like. 00:06:31 Speaker 7: No, I was just asking who's the list. I was just saying, who could it possibly be? 00:06:34 Speaker 4: That was? 00:06:34 Speaker 7: I didn't fall for that. 00:06:35 Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, it's just that's not true. He but with that said, I wanted to you know, I went back and listened, and when I went back and listened. I was like, yeah, I wish I had not wish I had not interrupted him as much as I did, because, like, you're right, I kind of had him on the witness stand, but you know that was probably slightly too much. I do want to thank the nine hundred of you who felt like you needed to write me to say something like that. I don't understand the people who are fans of this show who think it's somehow productive to tell me when you like, think something was really like, I get it. I said out a tweet that I thought I was a little but it is amazing how people who claim to like the show can be so like nasty in their responses and then go, hey, but hey man, still love you. Yeah, I'm gonna go to their job and go, you know what, the way you the way you did that plumbing was just but you know what, I still love your pipes. Still a huge fan of of all your pipes. So but thank you very much. 00:07:41 Speaker 6: My other big takeaway and until later I thought this was Shannon. The heavily edited clip that had like dramatic music behind it when you played Jay's back through it. 00:07:50 Speaker 4: That was awkward because it did look like Shannon had made that somebody online online. 00:07:57 Speaker 3: I thought that last time I had heard that clip too. 00:08:00 Speaker 4: It was a little it was a little it was a little much b W promo for but it was I really enjoyed having him again. He he and I go way back, but we really haven't spent a lot of time together in recent years. So it was nice to talk with him. And I thought, like I said, I think in the long run, he actually did himself. I did too a service with the UK fans. I think people were more positive about him after than they were before. 00:08:30 Speaker 5: I think it's because how they ended it, you know. He finally like, hey man, look I probably shouldn't have said that. I'm sorry, but I'm on live TV for four hours I'm gonna say some things that aren't right sometimes, you know. 00:08:38 Speaker 4: I get that. You can't anybody whose job it is to sit and talk all the time. You're gonna say something that people are going to disagree with, Like you just you just are. What My overall point in that conversation, though, still is the same, which is these dudes that have close relationships with coaches, they're just they're even Like yesterday he was like, well, I'm not gonna say he can't turn it around. I mean, I get that, but then you guys are fine, he said, I criticized mc cronin, Well, you're not friends with Mick cronin, right, right, Like it's easy to criticize people you're not friends with. I just think that makes it tough. I also think, you know, I watched the col game last night. They came back and won. He had a little bit of a flurry, But I just wish Here's the bottom line is that caller called and said after if Kentucky stunk this year and Arkansas was good, all those guys would be throwing it in our fight. Sure they would all us, Sure they would. I don't know why they get angry or whatever. If you do the opposite back and they're just they're they're low. They're not going to say Col. You know, they're not gonna criticize CAU. They're just they're just not And so that's it. That's that. Yeah. 00:09:54 Speaker 6: I mean, game day is about to ramp up now that football is over. It starts this weekend. And if Pope had their record, there be a graphic with a Pope with a frown on his face, and it would say zero and five B being in trouble, should they've split away with cal and that would be the number one segment. So since it's the other way, we're allowed to have that segment on our jack. 00:10:11 Speaker 4: So let's say that I think they're going to Auburn, Tennessee this weekend for game day. If you look at the schedule, the smart thing for them to do probably next week would be going to Kentucky Yark. Sure it is, I mean that's the smart thing to do. They haven't announced it. If they came in, what do you think the reaction would be to at least the Seth and Jay part of it? Or first of all, you know, the last few times they've come to rupt, we haven't really gotten great crowds for that. Do you think people would come for this one? Because the game's not un till nine and that shows at eleven am. 00:10:43 Speaker 5: I think we've seen how our fan base is around this team and around Pope. 00:10:46 Speaker 7: I think they. 00:10:47 Speaker 5: Absolutely would show up for it and fill it. I think Jay Willims would probably get applause. I think Seth Greenberg probably won't get applause. 00:10:54 Speaker 4: I think Exeth would get booed. 00:10:55 Speaker 5: I think he would there's part of the people that will be there that will definitely boo him. 00:10:59 Speaker 4: I think think he would get angry if he get booed. I think, unlike some of those people who would play along with the crowd seth might try to argue with everyone in the crowd about why he's getting booed. 00:11:08 Speaker 7: So that would definitely get booed. It would be Digger Phelips all over again. 00:11:11 Speaker 6: Yeah, then try to tell the crowd why they shouldn't boo him because he's right about this, and then he would get further booed. We have a hiccup though, that's Duke North Carolina and that game's on. 00:11:20 Speaker 4: Oh that's Duke North Carolina. Okay, so yeah, don't go to that one. They'll go to the. 00:11:24 Speaker 7: Flag and it's at Duke six o'clock on never. 00:11:28 Speaker 4: Mind, I thought that game. Okay, So we. 00:11:30 Speaker 7: Needed Arkansas to be a little better for it to come here. 00:11:31 Speaker 4: Heah, they're going to Duke North Carolina then, So I mean, I'm trying to think, is there a game where we will get game day. We played Tennessee on a Tuesday. I guess that Auburn game. If we were good going into that Auburn game, then maybe maybe it would happen. 00:11:45 Speaker 6: Yeah, unless big Blue history, he tells me I'm wrong. We were looking through this. I don't think game day's been here since before COVID, Like, has it been that long. Nineteen was the last year we've been at Kansas in game Day was there and at another SEC school, but they haven't brought the production to election. 00:11:59 Speaker 4: Ye, that Auburn game is probably our chance to have it because it's a Saturday. They could be number one or two in the country at the time. Ryan, if we're gonna do it, that would probably be the time. 00:12:10 Speaker 5: And I think they would want to do that. You know, Kentucky's such a you know, hot button topic on the success that Mark Pop's having his first year. I think they'd want to come and capitalize on that. 00:12:18 Speaker 4: All right, So let's talk about just real quick. Arkansas got their first win. Did you watch the game? 00:12:23 Speaker 5: Watched almost every second of it. 00:12:24 Speaker 4: I'll tell you this, The Arkansas games are a brutal watch, man, I mean, they're just a brutal They're a brutal watch. But they got hot in the second half. They get a win. Be Honestrue, were you pulling for him? In the last couple of minutes. 00:12:37 Speaker 7: Well, I didn't watch it. That was my thing. 00:12:39 Speaker 6: I've done this three times now. I watched the whole first half, and I said, I cannot keep giving my weekday nights to bad basketball in John Caliperry and I turned it off and watched Severance get text that the dudes at the free throw line and catch the last second. But I was in and it was just so hard to watch. I quit watching, and then I missed their comeback. 00:12:55 Speaker 4: Well, they had a dude played well. 00:12:58 Speaker 6: I turned it off the minute Big Z hit the beater to go into halftime, and I was like, that would be a good big. 00:13:02 Speaker 4: Bigxie made made a couple of shots. You know, they just they Georgia was brutal down the stretch. I mean just like three you know you saw it, throwing the ball out of bounds. Just they they were Why couldn't they have done that against us down the stretch? But they got to win. It was nice to see a dude and Z happy. You know, they've lost boogy planing. Maybe that'll make them better. I didn't want them coming in here oh and seven though, because the idea that they would be oh and seven and then maybe get a win with something that would was worrying me a little bit. 00:13:33 Speaker 5: If if you're asking to be honest, I absolutely was pulling for them at the end of the game. I don't know why, but I found myself wanting that moment for those guys, and I guess for Caln. 00:13:42 Speaker 4: That's to say, after. 00:13:43 Speaker 5: The game, I stayed up just to see cal On what he was gonna say, and he was col was being cal you know, we hung around, you know, doing stuff like that. 00:13:52 Speaker 4: Is that your person? Yeah? Yeah, I don't. I don't know that that really sounds like cal Perry Shannon. Does that sound like cal No? 00:13:59 Speaker 3: Not really, but I worked with it. 00:14:02 Speaker 4: I think he's gonna have to work on that one over time. 00:14:04 Speaker 7: So I have a Georgia question about the ending. 00:14:06 Speaker 6: And I had money on Arkansas at minus one, so I'm not mad about it. But on that do free throw, not that they would have won at the end, why did they just watch him get it and lay it in. 00:14:15 Speaker 4: I don't know. It made arkisas company, But no idea what Georgia was doing at the end of any of that game. Like everything they did at the end of the game, the last five minutes of the game. They looked like they had never played basketball before. It was crazy for a team that's pretty good, just how they just completely collapsed down the stretch. 00:14:33 Speaker 6: I saw a clip where I was catching up Mike White was losing his mind. They dribbled it down and just passed it straight to Arkansas, almost like they got their jerseys confused. 00:14:41 Speaker 4: It was crazy. I thought Mike White was gonna like go insane. So AF nine eight twenty two eighty seven. South Laurel is in the house. Nice to see all of you, folks. There's a lot of you. Hello to South Laurel. So we will take a break and be right back. This is Kentucky Sports Radio running back. It is Kentucky Sports Radio. Sou South Laurel is here. There's a guy here on the basketball team. And you said, who who's the favorites in the thirteenth region, and he said, we are. 00:15:13 Speaker 5: That's Colton Rawlings. 00:15:14 Speaker 4: Man. 00:15:14 Speaker 5: He's been around a long time. He's he's a good player. 00:15:16 Speaker 4: He's been allowed a long time. He's in high school. It's not like he's twenty eight. 00:15:20 Speaker 5: But he's been playing varsity I think since he was a freshman. I mean he's a good player. Yeah, we're good. 00:15:24 Speaker 4: Nice to see all these all these young kids here from the thirteenth region. 00:15:29 Speaker 7: Thirteenth region people. 00:15:30 Speaker 5: Yeah, we had to ask him, how's Middlesborough doing. Apparently it's a rebuilding year. 00:15:34 Speaker 4: You know what, It's been a rebuilding year for a while, but we're gonna turn it back around one day. I'm not worried about it speaking of that, you know what, I'll go ahead and do this now. I was gonna save it, but I like playing this game today. Is the all a classic starts? It is? 00:15:47 Speaker 7: Oh? 00:15:47 Speaker 4: Yeah, all the first round games, Shannoner today. I don't know anything about any of these teams that so of course that means we should pick the game. Of course, all right, I don't know anything about These are small. 00:15:59 Speaker 5: Schools on the state, and it's in Owensboro this year. 00:16:01 Speaker 4: And it's in Owensborough, So let's go quick. Lion County, Martin County. Who you got, oh, Lion County. I mean that's Travis Perry, but he's not there anymore. 00:16:09 Speaker 5: I saw him playing in Alex Catholic tournament. They're still pretty good. I go Lion County. 00:16:12 Speaker 7: They've loaded up. 00:16:13 Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll go Lion County. I think they're I think they're paying players. 00:16:18 Speaker 3: Give me Martin County. 00:16:20 Speaker 4: You're taking Martin County, All right, that's good. 00:16:22 Speaker 8: Uh. 00:16:22 Speaker 4: Bishop Brossert against Pineville. 00:16:26 Speaker 7: I go Pinevale here, sorry, Northern Kentucky. 00:16:29 Speaker 5: Saw your Thompson? Russ Thompson's kid plays for Pineville. 00:16:32 Speaker 4: Pineval. Pineville has been keeping the rock out of the town so they could play bass. 00:16:38 Speaker 3: What's their name? 00:16:39 Speaker 4: Saw your Thompson? Oh? 00:16:40 Speaker 2: Saw your Thompson. Have you ever seen sawr Thompson play basketball? You've seen his crossover? Give me Sawyer Thompson. 00:16:46 Speaker 4: Well that's Pineville. So we're all picking pielin Owensboro Catholic against beech Wood. That sounds like a football game. That would be bad. What you got. 00:16:54 Speaker 7: Owensboro is gonna have the home crowd, this slight edge there. 00:16:57 Speaker 5: Yeah, I think the fact that it's at Sports Center, we gotta give the Owensborough. 00:17:00 Speaker 4: Yeah. O One's World Catholic has there. It's a home. That's not fair. It's right across the street. I'll take Owen's World Catholic. What do you got? 00:17:07 Speaker 3: You give me the Catholics. 00:17:09 Speaker 4: Louisville Holy Cross against Sayre two more private schools going at it. Who you got I'm a little worried. 00:17:14 Speaker 6: I saw Sarah had a team dinner at Moodlight, so that's all sitting heavy on there. Oh, but I'm still gonna take the Spartans, all right. 00:17:21 Speaker 5: Sayah's really good. They got a couple of really good players. 00:17:22 Speaker 7: They got a great head coach. 00:17:24 Speaker 5: They do have a really good head coach, Rob Goodman. So I'm gonna go with Sarah. 00:17:28 Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm gonna go with Sayer. Josh Hopkins got a new part in the second season of Shrinking, so that's gonna make Sayer play better. I'll take Sarah. What do you Who you got, chick? 00:17:36 Speaker 3: Give me Holy Cross? 00:17:37 Speaker 4: Holy Hazzard plays Green County down by the Green River where Paradise lay. What do you got? 00:17:43 Speaker 6: Give me a slow burger for ozen a bottle of ski. I'll go Green County. 00:17:46 Speaker 5: Yeah, I know nothing about either one, So since you said Green County, I'll go Hazzard. 00:17:49 Speaker 4: Generally I would go with Eastern Kentucky and pick Hazard, but Green County does have that burger place that I like to stop at all the way down there, So I'm gonna take Green County. 00:17:58 Speaker 2: What you got it's gonna be a hazard for Green County. I'm gonna go with hazard. 00:18:02 Speaker 4: Clinton County against Whitefield Academy. I didn't even know there was a school called Whitefield Academy. No clue where it is. It could be literally anywhere in the state. I'm gonna take Clinton County, Clinton County twenty and oh, by the way, this year. 00:18:18 Speaker 6: I'm gonna take Whitefield. Clearly, we've all been sleeping on them since we were underware. 00:18:22 Speaker 4: So you're gonna take eight and thirteen Whitefield over twenty and oh, Clinton County. 00:18:27 Speaker 7: Breakout high school of the year in Kentucky. 00:18:30 Speaker 4: I'm with you. 00:18:30 Speaker 5: I've never heard of Whitefield Academy ever until you just said it. Clinton County, though, was good. We did a showdown there and they were telling it they were gonna have a good year this year. 00:18:37 Speaker 4: Clinton County has more churches per capita than any than any school or in any county in America. In America, so they're gonna pray their way to a victory today. 00:18:48 Speaker 2: Who you got, Clinton County's gonna send Whitefield Academy back into obscurity. 00:18:52 Speaker 3: We're never gonna talk about him again. 00:18:55 Speaker 4: Dambull Christian Academy didn't know Dan Bull had a Christian Academy. They play County Rocky Atkins Territory. 00:19:03 Speaker 5: When you put it like that, Elliott County Devil Christian Academy is good. They won the eleventh region last year. Oh did they not just all a eleventh region? 00:19:11 Speaker 7: Playing this year? 00:19:12 Speaker 4: I'm gonna I'll have to take them, now that you talk me into it. Who you got you. 00:19:16 Speaker 3: Any the Danvil Larry Vance's. 00:19:18 Speaker 4: Finally Ballard Memorial that hit a half court shot at the buzzer to get out of the semi finals of the region. They ended up winning the finals. They play Walton Verona. Who you got, Drew, It's. 00:19:31 Speaker 7: Just Walton Verona. It's it's the two from one. 00:19:33 Speaker 4: You get to the exit, you get Walton or Verona. 00:19:36 Speaker 7: Mismatch. I'm going Walden Verona. 00:19:38 Speaker 5: I'm going to Ballard County Bombers. They're on a roll after hitting that half court shot. 00:19:41 Speaker 4: They hit a half court shot. I mean like, if you hit a half court shot, you know you've got the karma on your side. So I'm gonna take Ballard Memorial. The first region all the way out at the farthest end of the state. Eight by nine twenty two eighty seven. Kentucky and Vandy are Saturday. How you feeling about the game on the road in Nashville? Tickets, by the way, are insane. If you go look at stub ub, these are the most expensive Kentucky Bandy tickets I've seen in forever. 00:20:12 Speaker 5: Heard Mark Pope saying that they're practicing this week with him still standing on the baseline, you know, just another thing he's trying to do to kind of get his team ready for the game because it's kind a quirky place to play for the first time, you guys ever played there. 00:20:22 Speaker 3: He does realize you can go on the sideline though, right. 00:20:25 Speaker 4: Like, but you know what, don't tell him he's cooking shit. Don't worry. Don't worry about it. How do you feel about the game? Due they just beat Tennessee on their home court by like ten I actually think. 00:20:35 Speaker 6: That helps us a little bit. They got their big win out of the way, those emotions. Having just been in Nashville. I think Kentucky fans are already there for Saturday's game. It's gonna be a blue crowd. I like Kentucky to win. 00:20:44 Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I'm amazed at the at the ticket situation. Not only is it sold out, like you go, try to find tickets right now, the prices are crazy. I have to think that's Kentucky fans in western Kentucky going, don't. 00:20:59 Speaker 6: You, And we very very rarely go to Nashville on a Saturday. 00:21:04 Speaker 7: No, we know you're right, and it's at two thirty. 00:21:07 Speaker 6: So I mean, if you like Nashville, that's a Friday night, a Saturday night with a Kentucky basketball game for lunch on Saturday, that's pretty perfect. 00:21:14 Speaker 4: I was singing about that. We are never at Vandy on a Saturday. It's always midweek nine o'clock, like like you know, the arena's dark and feels like they're vampires in there this time. To get it on a Saturday, it must I think it's gonna be a huge Kentucky contingent. But I'll say this, I was looking at the tickets just like, hey, maybe I'll go down there and watch, like you gotta want. 00:21:38 Speaker 5: It, which is no doubt. Like you said, it's Kentucky people. They're trying to you know, gonna fill up that place. But yet Vandy, you know their student body will be right there. They'll pack that you know, they'll be it'll be at a rowdy crowd both ways. 00:21:49 Speaker 4: I think you you know Vandy better than anybody, Shannon, Do they have any chance of pulling off the upset? 00:21:54 Speaker 2: They cannot match Kentucky's shot for shot. They can run with them, but they're gonna have to create turnovers if Andy has any shot. 00:22:00 Speaker 4: So we Vandy's one of those teams. Arkansas will be like this as well, that if we're playing well, they just can't score enough, right, Like the reason they beat Tennessee is Tennessee's offense is not great and Tennessee wasn't hitting shots. If we're hitting shots, they just there's no way they can score enough. Now, if we're cold like we were at Georgia or Clemson then Drew, that's how it ends up being a game. 00:22:23 Speaker 6: And that is a funky place for shooters. Well, we don't know how that'll turn out. And even the setup, you know, Pope's first time down there. You can walk around a little bit now, but anytime playing there the first time, that has to be a little bit of it feels like. 00:22:34 Speaker 4: It feels like when we've played Vandy in recent years, we've either like at Vandy, we've either blown them out or it comes down to the final position. Like it's like like we've we've run them off the court a few times in recent years, but then we also have had these games that are grinded out down to the last play. 00:22:51 Speaker 5: I think that's the magic of that building sometimes. Man, it's just you know, they'll end up pulling off an upset. They've already got Tennessee. I'm sure they're probably thinking they can pull this one off. 00:22:58 Speaker 7: George Burke's had the big game. 00:22:59 Speaker 4: We're gonna take all eight five, nine, two, eight oh twenty two eighty seven. We are here. It's Kosbar, Gil's Kentucky Sports Radio. 00:23:06 Speaker 3: TJ Smith personal injury attorney, call TJ. He'll make them. 00:23:10 Speaker 2: Pay No more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage. 00:23:14 Speaker 3: Here's Matt Jones work. 00:23:16 Speaker 4: A back Tucky Sports Radio here at KS Bar and Grill. You know, when I was in high school, if I had gotten to travel to go to a sports radio show at a sports bar and eat lunch there, like that's the best that Like what else could you do that would be better on a school day than that? Rather than sit inside a building, you get to go, like that would be the best. Oh yeah, I mean we went to a coal camp and I thought that was great, and I was just walking around the coal camp. 00:23:43 Speaker 6: I would have absolutely signed up for the KSR Club. I might go back to school and try to you should. 00:23:48 Speaker 5: Yes, I still want to know exactly what they do at the KSR Club. They just break down each show. They listen to a show and break it down and they talk. 00:23:55 Speaker 4: About yes, yeah, they talk about how I shouldn't interrupt Jay Williams so much. They talk about how you are inconsistent, how Shannon hangs up on people too quickly. Like there's a lot of things that I think they probably did. 00:24:07 Speaker 5: I will admit this. There is a one hundred chance I definitely would have been under the table when you and Jay started going back and forth. 00:24:13 Speaker 4: Yes, y oh, that's why I was good with Shannon. I looked at Shannon through the little monitor. He's just smiling the whole time, Like he on the monitor. Shannon just had a look on his face like keep going, just keep going. That's that's that's what Jorn. Yes, that's exactly right. Caleb Wilson is gonna make his college basketball decision tonight. This is a top ten kid. One of the best players in America. He's going to decide between Kentucky and North Carolina tonight after the Lakers Celtics game, which means it'll be announced at like twelve thirty at night on Inside the NBA with Barkley Shack and Kenny Smith. Now, on the one hand, that's cool for that kid. That'll be a highly watched show with the Lakers and Celtics having just ended, and then you get this high school commit so he's gonna get a lot of attention. On the other hand, I'm on be in bed. I don't know if other people are, do you. It's looking like the internet buzz seemed to suggest he may go to Carolina. What do you think is gonna happen tonight? And will you stay up to watch it? 00:25:16 Speaker 5: Unfortunately, I don't have a chance staying up that late to watch it. But you know, there are some people I think still here in town that think that they've got a real good shot at here and they're in a good position with him. 00:25:24 Speaker 4: Have you talked to them like recently? Uh? No, okay, all. 00:25:28 Speaker 7: Right, well when you have been some change. 00:25:30 Speaker 4: There have been some changes in the last couple of days. Yeah, I think. So do you wanna do you wanna text your sources before the end of the show. 00:25:36 Speaker 5: Yeah, let's do that. Let's see if there's any upcoming news. 00:25:39 Speaker 4: Why don't you get to it, pH Yes, go for it, get to it. 00:25:45 Speaker 6: A few weeks ago, I was very confident, but the tides have seen to turn. Any name in recruiting is picking North Carolina. Now I would have bet money on Kentucky just a few weeks ago, but now I've completely flipped just following the news. I don't know anything myself, but I mean, you've got Joe Tipton on three truly, Donovan, all the big names that cover this are picking you in. 00:26:03 Speaker 4: See. Here's the thing, this is a good lesson for the future. Whenever a recruit, whenever we hear people say about a recruit, he's definitely coming to Kentucky, He's definitely coming to Kentucky, definitely coming, and then he just keeps putting off his announcement. That makes me skeptical, Like, if you're definitely coming, then why aren't you coming? Like why are we why are we going? Okay, the announcement will be in November. Now it's in December. Now it's in January. Like, when that happens, that means to me the definitely is not so definitely, So I think he goes to North Carolina. It's a bummer. I wish I wish Pope had gotten him, assuming we don't get him. But I also think, if you know, nowadays with the portal, you missing on somebody is not the end of the world. I mean, you could even argue this year Fred, this year there's been a rebirth. Drew a freshmen right, like Cooper Flag's been really good. The kid at Illinois is really good. The two kids at Rutgers are good. Like freshmen have kind of re emerged. But last year, in the final four of the twenty starters, only one of them was a freshman. Like there is a sense in which getting those freshmen is not quite what it was a while back. 00:27:15 Speaker 6: Yeah, that's why not to, you know, try to change the narrative. I really wanted Caleb Wilson. I think it would have been a good good for Pope to get someone outside of Kentucky that's a top ten player. So I'm bummed that it's looking like it's gonna be Carolina. But at the same time, it is different and we're still training our brains on so many things that are different from how it was for so long. And in this scenario, he was going to command a lot of money. They were willing to pay it, and that's good. We wanted him. But I now also trust Pope to take that money that they were going to spend and go to the portal and find maybe more than one piece there is also gonna be very good. So it is a loss and it stinks, but it's not like crap, that was our one target. It's like, okay, well let's go find something a little older and fill that hole. 00:27:50 Speaker 4: Yeah. I kind of agree with you about that. Who's up? First? Shit? Dan? Dan? Go ahead? Dan? 00:27:59 Speaker 8: Sorry? I was Matt long time? First time? 00:28:01 Speaker 4: Who are What's up? Not much? 00:28:05 Speaker 8: But I had two quick points. I don't want to take as long as the first one because I want to talk to you more on the second one, but the first and the officiating at Georgia just seems like they're not quite as good on the road, are they. They got a lot of good home cooking going on. They're at home, and I understand what you look at. 00:28:19 Speaker 4: The SEC this year, you're gonna get teams that can beat anybody at home and lose to anybody on the road. We might be one of those teams. Like I think that's just kind of how the SEC is this year. I mean, South Carolina should have beat Florida the other night. They lost it at the last second, so I mean it happens. 00:28:40 Speaker 8: I'm just saying though, that it's not so much then the number of foils, because I know they only call it like five more thousand on men, And look, if we shot better, if we've made more free throws we don't want. I'm not blaming the rest, but the timing of the fowls, the fact that they were in the bonus a lot earlier in each half than us. The timing of the fowls affects the flow of. 00:28:59 Speaker 4: Remember j in Arkansas play physically, They're gonna go to the line more than we do. They That's just how it's gonna be unless we do the things Pope is talking about doing. What's your second thing. 00:29:12 Speaker 8: Yeah, we gotta get more aggressive, taking it to the whole and trying to get those fails. On my second point, now, I just want to say I'm a Trump supporter. I always listen to your show. I think people should be able to have discussions civilly and just agree to disagree, And there's nothing wrong with that, right like you and Jay Williams. So the only issue I have with what you said about the pardons. 00:29:36 Speaker 4: What we're not talking about. Look, I gave my opinion on that, but I hope you understand if I let you go back on it, then the whole show becomes people arguing back and forth. So it's not that I don't want to hear your position, but if I get your position on pardons, then somebody's gonna counter you. That's why I don't open the pardon open the political stuff up for discussion. 00:29:59 Speaker 8: I don't have a position on pardons. All I was going to study is that you had mentioned that he pardoned somebody that had hit policeman. 00:30:05 Speaker 4: I appreciate it, sir, I just I don't want to do that. I appreciate the call. I'm not trying to be rude to you. It's not that I don't think you have a vowed opinion, but I don't when it's probably not fair. But you know, if you want to hear people take the opposite view than me on politics, as a show that comes on right after this, and you'll get three straight hours of it, and they'll give the opposite position and you can get everything you want there. 00:30:30 Speaker 7: Yeah, we got lots of a lot more fun Vandy takes ahead. 00:30:32 Speaker 6: We've talked about the pile of coats that ron you always get so excited about when we go to Nashville. 00:30:36 Speaker 4: We can't let yeah tell people what your pile of coats thing is. You always bring that up when we go to Nashville. 00:30:40 Speaker 5: Well, I think they've they've changed. But the people that used to sit in the end zone a Memorial Coliseum, there's no coat racked, there's no place to, you know, really sit on your coat. So they would pile them. They would stock them in a pile right behind the basketball goal in the end zone and it would be like three feet four feet high as pile. 00:30:56 Speaker 4: You always say, you don't think no if they do it anymore. But I've watched ten games since the last time you've broughted this, and I've never seen any coats. Is this like something from the sixties that you're still continuing to bring up. 00:31:09 Speaker 5: I know they were doing it when I was still at Channel eighteen. We shot some video of it. 00:31:13 Speaker 4: I couldn't a lot of games there, you know, I don't. I think the pile of coats is something that is in your imagination, created out of nowhere. Why would everyone just put a pile of coats on the floor, because when the game is over, that would be a madhouse. 00:31:30 Speaker 5: Yeah, you gotta go find your coat. Yeah, maybe it was part of the fun, part of the game. 00:31:34 Speaker 4: Part of the fun is throwing your coat in a pile with one hundred of other people's coat. 00:31:39 Speaker 5: You know, watching Vanderbilt basketball a lot of time is pretty tough and struggling struggling to watch it. So now you've got a chance to have some fun. Go find your coat at the end of the game. 00:31:47 Speaker 4: I'm throwing the challenge. I just I don't believe that's true. I don't believe that's true. Who's next. 00:31:52 Speaker 3: Let's go to Kentucky surveyor Kentucky. 00:31:55 Speaker 4: Survey or how are you. 00:31:58 Speaker 8: Hey, guys? 00:31:59 Speaker 4: Good, how y'all doing good? What's up? Oh? 00:32:03 Speaker 8: Not much. I just had a couple of quick comments thoughts. So I liked the back and forth with Jay william yesterday, and I really liked Jay Williams, but he was absolutely backpeddling from the comments that he made and just didn't want to own up to it, I don't think. And then the other thing is I've always hated coach k and now knowing that just because they was hard on him and his handling of of what's his name, dude, I can't stand about. 00:32:30 Speaker 4: Yeah, so I appreciate the call. That was a piece of news yesterday, Drew. I don't think it's ever been told Jay Williams saying that he got kicked out of Duke practices for criticizing the Grayson Allen thing. I don't know that that's ever been news. You guys need to write that story up on KSR so maybe we could get some traction on it, because I don't know that I've ever heard that before. 00:32:52 Speaker 6: He kind of just took that one in there. I mean, we were obviously listening to interview for other reasons. But you think about that, that's not just a former player, that's that's a Duke legend there. That is the biggest mouthpiece for Duke on TV outside of Jay Villis, and he wasn't allowed to go to practice. 00:33:04 Speaker 4: Yeah, that's probably one of coach Mike Krzyzewski's top three players. He's ever had. I mean it's probably like Laightner. I mean I would put him second to Lightner. I mean, you're if you look at Coach K's best players, it's probably Latner, Danny Ferry, Bobby Hurley, Grant Hill, Reddick him and Zion Brand. I mean there's not in Elton Brand. But like I would, I might put Uh, I might put Jason Williams second. 00:33:30 Speaker 5: He said yesterday his jersey hangs in that arena, and yet he was forbidden to come to practice. That was kind of shocking news when he said that yesterday. I thought the other thing was he's definitely got something with Rashad Kruth. He didn't want to talk about Rashad Kruth yesterday. 00:33:44 Speaker 4: That's true, he didn't, which is weird, Like, why would you don't know about I don't know? It is Kentucky Sports Radio here at Kasbar. I was just talking to these kids here. I was like, how long do you all think you could go without being on your phone? And one of them looked at me with pride, Brian and goes, I think I could do two hours? 00:35:52 Speaker 5: Wow, two hours. 00:35:53 Speaker 4: I mean that's not that long, but like he was like two hours and then the teacher's like, nope, no, you can't. It's amazing now, how much like if you look at the great span of human history, we humans have acted the same way for like thousands of years, and then starting fifteen years ago, now we spend half of our time looking at a screen yep, and like it was never like that the rest of the time. And I'm guilty as anybody. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying, but it's amazing how that's changed. 00:36:30 Speaker 5: I don't know what the rules are in South Laurel, but I know a lot of schools now are giving up to the teachers that they can like implement put your phones away as soon as you. 00:36:37 Speaker 4: Walk to Kentucky legislature has a bill this session to ban the use of cell phones in class. Ban them. It's Republicans are for it, but on this one, I'll make it bipartisan. Ban it like I do it in my class at Georgetown. No, you can't be on your phone. They don't like it, but like you can't have their attention otherwise if they have a phone and you know they're not paying attention totally. 00:37:02 Speaker 6: That and I genuinely don't know this ran you can answer, how do kids just not look up everything on their phone? 00:37:07 Speaker 4: That's it. 00:37:08 Speaker 6: When I was in high school, I had to type the entire periodic periodic table into a T I eighty three calculator. 00:37:14 Speaker 7: It took like six nights to get it all in there. So I get you on my. 00:37:17 Speaker 4: Final exam, I make them turn their phones off. No Internet. They can bring in anything they want from out. They can bring in their notes, they can bring in their books, they can bring in whatever but they have no electronic thing, and to me, that's the only way you can do it, because if you give them access to the internet, forget it, like they're gonna have AI and it's gonna be you know, it's gonna be whatever. I know. 00:37:38 Speaker 5: There was one class that the teachers was okay with them looking it up on their phone because even by doing that, they're learning it. 00:37:46 Speaker 4: No. I agree with that, but you can't do it on a test. Yeah, then they're just regurgitating what they're selling it. All right. I have something that a story that I think is gonna be a big story in the next twenty four hours, but that I don't think people know yet. And we'll give it here. Okay, Shannon, I feel like this is gonna involve you a lot. Did you see what happened last night with Bill Burr and Billy Corgan? No, okay. Bill Burr is a comedian. Billy Corgan is the lead singer of the Smashing Pumpkins. All right, Howie Mandell, I just keep throwing names. Howie Mandel has a podcast. He decides to have those two guys on. Now here's something I didn't know. Bill Burr, the comedian and Billy Corgan, the singer have the same father. What they have the same father with two different mothers. I think the father was not involved in either of the kid's life. And apparently Bill Burr and Billy Corgan are not that far off in age, and the dad named both kids Bill Weird. But here's the crazy part. Bill Burr and Billy Corgan had never talked to each other about it. They were aware, but had never talked to each other about it. And for Bill Burr at least, it was kind of a sore subject. He didn't like his dad and he didn't really want to talk about this kid, etc. Howie Mandell makes the decision to invite them both on to reunite, but doesn't tell Bill Burr. So Bill Burr is on the show as a guest and he brings Billy Corgan out. He had told Billy Corgan that Bill Burr was cool with it. He wasn't. And he sits down and says, here you go. And the video is as cringe a worthy thing as you'll ever see. Bill Burr is clearly mad, like, not kind of mad, really mad. He even says, can we cut this out of the podcast? And then they're sitting there and the tension is so awkward. He's not mad a Billy Corgan, but he also really doesn't want to talk to him because he doesn't want to think about his dad. Billy Corgan thought Bill Burr was gonna be cool with it and now realizes it's not. And the two of them are sitting there. It's awful to watch. It's like ten minutes. I'm telling you, look it up later. It's the worst thing I've ever seen. And then at the end they almost kind of unify in thinking how he is a jerk, yeah for having done this. They're both kind of like, I can't believe you did this to us? 00:40:32 Speaker 5: Yeah, how And Mandel's had fault here he ambushed ambushed him? 00:40:35 Speaker 4: Was but is that not? Wild? Like this has got to be a huge story today because once people see the video, these are two very famous people. Once people see the video, it's awful. And the dad named them both. 00:40:47 Speaker 2: Bill that Billy Corgan wasn't upset about it as Bill Burr was. 00:40:52 Speaker 4: Well. Billy Corgan had been told that Bill Burr wanted to unify like one in to like unite wow, And then Bill Burr looked at Billy Corgan and said, Hey, in interviews you said you were my stepbrother. I wish you hadn't done that. You didn't ask me if that was okay. 00:41:08 Speaker 5: So it was like, that's stuff that doesn't need to be talked about on the public airwaves. 00:41:13 Speaker 4: I mean, it is as tense a thing as you will ever see. I felt really sorry for Bill Burr. Yeah, I also felt sorry for Billy Corgan. Howie Mandale, who I thought always seemed like everybody thought he was like a nice guy, kind of comes off right and drew as a huge jerk in the whole thing. 00:41:30 Speaker 6: Heck, yeah, I get Howie having this idea it would be good. 00:41:34 Speaker 7: You cannot surprise someone. 00:41:36 Speaker 4: You have to ask them, you can't. You can't just surprise them. 00:41:41 Speaker 6: I Bill Burr's gotta be in his fifties, and that's probably something that you know, he's dealt with his whole life, something in the back of his head, and you're just gonna throw a microphone and say let's talk about this for the. 00:41:50 Speaker 4: First So then Howie Mandel looks at Bill Burr and goes, so, what do you think about him? Me and Billy Corgan. He was like, well, I wish you hadn't said that we were brothers without asking me, and I, I mean, your music's good, I guess. And that was their beautiful moment of reconciliation. 00:42:05 Speaker 3: So was the Dada no Name? 00:42:07 Speaker 4: I mean, what kind of that was just a random guy response? How about just a random guy just had two kids and then they both end up being huge superstars in completely different fields. Wow, isn't that crazy? I'm telling you, when you watch this video, it is hard to watch, Like, it is really hard to watch. We'll take a break and be right back. It's Kentucky Sports Radio.
