00:00:04 Speaker 1: Pete Abraham follow him at Pete abe Globe on Blue Sky and you can. 00:00:13 Speaker 2: His work in the Boston Globe. Pete, great to have you on. 00:00:18 Speaker 3: Hello. 00:00:18 Speaker 1: Are the Boston Red Sox participating in the trade deadline today? 00:00:23 Speaker 4: Doesn't look like it's so far, and I'm shocked, to be honest with you, because they have some very clearly identified needs that can help this team. They're in the playoffs as of today, they were a game behind the Yankees. I thought for sure you'd see them at a starting pitcher, perhaps somebody who could play first base. They did add Steven Match to their bollpen, but their needs are a lot more. This has been a big surprise that the deadline hasn't hit yet. We'll see what happens, but so far it's been a disappointing day for Red Sox fans. 00:00:52 Speaker 5: I'm Bloom got absolutely eviscerated for the guy who never made the move. He never made the move. All of a sudden, you bring in Craig Bresl. It's not Heim Bloom. Maybe it's the puppeteer that's above hem Bloom and Craig Breslo that are saying, well, go make the moves. But make sure they're just as cheap as Roman Anthony, Marcelo Meyer, Sedey and Rafaela. So go ahead and make those moves, but don't expect any extra money. 00:01:21 Speaker 6: You know. 00:01:21 Speaker 4: The Red Sox like to say they're championship driven, but the last few years they haven't demonstrated that when the time has come to do that, and this team has done a good job since they traded Raphael Devers, they've got themselves back into contention. Really, I think against all odds, a lot of people thought, well, they made that trade, that was going to be the end of the season for them. They've played better than the Giants since the Giants acquired Devers, and Craig Breslow flew out the Seattle the day after the trade to meet with the team and say, this is not a white flag. We're not giving up on you. We still feel like this is a good team. He made a statement to us saying, in the end, we're gonna win more games than we would have won if we had kept Evers. 00:01:55 Speaker 7: To this point, that's all been true. 00:01:57 Speaker 4: But if you don't go supplement the rotation, if you don't add something, I think a first base obviously, how those are just something words if they don't do something to back that up, Pete. 00:02:10 Speaker 1: Yes, but does this current group understand how important it is to strike at the trade deadline? It sounds like a silly question, but I'm being serious. I mean, hey, they picked up Alex Bregman laighton'sprick training. 00:02:22 Speaker 2: That was a big boom. 00:02:22 Speaker 1: I think that probably led to a lot better you know, TV numbers, attendance, the whole deal, which they had been super concerned about, right, And like you mentioned, this team's generally played well since the Dever's move, which was negative pr for them. But I'm just curious because there's been some botched trade deadlines with multiple groups. Now, I'm like, do they understand the importance of this? Of course to the fan base, of course, to the players who want to know that you believe in them for the rest of the year. 00:02:51 Speaker 2: Do you think they understand that well. 00:02:54 Speaker 4: Craig Breslo is a member of the twenty thirteen Red Sox who had a very clear defined need at the trade. They needed another starter at the time. They went out and got Jake started ten games down the stretch. They won six of those games. He pitched very well in the two games he pitched in the playoffs, they won the World Series, so it's really not that hard. You know, Breslo lived it as a player. You go back to twenty and eighteen, Dave Dombrowski obtained Steve Pierce close to the deadline. He was the MVP of the World Series. So yeah, the Red Sox understand what deadline moves can do for a team. And now granted both of those, you know, especially the twenty and eighteen team, that was a team that was clearly headed for the playoffs and could do big things, but they still went out and added to that team to make sure everything worked right. Ian Kinsler, who seemed like an extra guy, ended up starting a bunch of games in the postseason. So yeah, I think the Red Sox clearly understand what needs to be done at the deadline, but so far they haven't done it today. 00:03:48 Speaker 7: Okay, so my question is Breslo came what organization? Did he come from? 00:03:53 Speaker 8: The Cubs? What have the Cubs done today? They've been off they quiet too, So is Breslo just following the lead. He was up by Jed Hoyer, but I thought THEO was there now back with the Red Sox and John Henry's here saying, oh, we need to do this. 00:04:05 Speaker 9: And that. 00:04:07 Speaker 4: Theo's here, no doubt about that. I mean, I don't know that he's working, you know, I don't know that he's in the war room trying to tell them what traits to make I think he's a little further removed than that. But again, Breslo is a guy who played in the Red Sox organization. He understands what they used to do as a team. There were always a very aggressive team at the deadline. And again this team, it's not you need to try to figure out what they need to do. You know what they need to do right now? They have four starters on their major league roster. They need to add another starter of some kind. And there's there were guys out there that they don't have a first baseman. They need to add a first baseman. It seemed pretty obvious what they needed to do, and so far they haven't done it. 00:04:45 Speaker 5: Is there a the move that they do make makes Red Sox fans mad? Obviously, nothing's going to be as mad as you know when they got rid of Dever as a whole Dever situation. But is there a move that's made that they that they say, wait, man, why didn't we just not make a move? 00:05:06 Speaker 10: Yeah? 00:05:06 Speaker 4: I I don't know with that what that what that would be? I think a Red Sox fans have been excited about this team since they devonstrate because they've played pretty well. 00:05:15 Speaker 10: Well. 00:05:15 Speaker 4: He's hurt now, but he's played well when he came up. Roman Anthony has been great over the last three weeks. He's practically put himself in consideration for American League Rookie of the Year. I think, you know, this the momentum that they've built over the last few weeks, and you know, winning two out of three in Minnesota with some difficult circumstances, you know, they've kind of put themselves in position. I mean, if the season ended right now, they're in the playoffs and and I don't see how you don't do something to help a team like that. 00:05:44 Speaker 7: Or what did they do? You said they need a starter? Who is it, Pete? 00:05:47 Speaker 2: Give me, give me what from what's left now? 00:05:50 Speaker 7: Give me Zach Allen? 00:05:52 Speaker 4: I mean yeah, I mean probably maybe it's Charlie. I mean you would like to think, you know, no offense to Charlie Morton. They could do better than that. But maybe it's Charlie Morton. Alex Glora likes him from their days in Houston. Zach Gallon seemed to make sense if Arizona's gonna trade him too after trading Merril Kelly. So we're not Maybe there'll be a last second move, but you know, I mean, as where we are right now, they do not have a starter for their fifth turn in the rotation. 00:06:19 Speaker 1: All right, so last one for you. We'll get some instant reaction by no means done. But John Hayman and Joel Sherman said that they're talking to the Dodgers about Dustin May, who I do think will be moved. I know Dustin May wants to be a starter, and if the injured guys come back, he's going to be booted from that. 00:06:38 Speaker 7: Right Red he breaking news Dustin made of the Reds. 00:06:42 Speaker 2: They got Okay, okay, so thoughts back together again? 00:06:49 Speaker 1: Yeah we will, Red Sox fans be pleased with this being the move. So it's it's Dustin May and Steven Matts and that's the trade deadline. 00:06:58 Speaker 2: What do you think? Great? 00:06:59 Speaker 4: It well sounder for a spaceman, So you can't say it's been a big success. Dustin May is a guy who would have been out of a rotation of the team that a lot of people think is going to win the World Series. So it's hard to get overly excited about that, but you know, it is an improvement on what they have. I'd say C plus if if I had to give a grade. 00:07:18 Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's fair. 00:07:19 Speaker 1: You guys agree C plus ish See Yeah, Pete, thank you so much for the time, and we'll look out for your article on. 00:07:28 Speaker 7: These two moves. 00:07:29 Speaker 1: All right, thanks Bello, thank you, pet Abraham Boston Globe check them out. 00:07:37 Speaker 6: Ft fan. 00:07:37 Speaker 1: We have a special offer for you if you go to surf shark dot com slash foul or use the code fo u l at checkout, get yourself four extra months of surf Shark VPN. The star of the Philly Show, Rubin and Mara Junior joining us right now. Ruben, great to have you on. Let's get your big picture take on the damage the Phillies have done so far in the past week. We'll include Robertson. So Robertson, Duran and Bader to make this team grate it. 00:09:01 Speaker 11: Yeah, well, I think more than anything else, the Robertson and the h and the Duran moves were huge. I you know, they really needed both have the best starting pitching in baseball. I believe as far as depth is concerned, the first three or four they really needed to add a bullpen piece or two. 00:09:21 Speaker 3: They did that. 00:09:23 Speaker 11: Robertson didn't cost him any real talent capital, which was huge, just money and a lot of it now that they're in a one hundred percent tax bracket. But a veteran guy that they know and has been there and done it. And again, Duran maybe one of the best arms as far as the closers are concerned. Hopefully he can perform in Philadelphia. He's pitched in playoff situations before and had success. 00:09:45 Speaker 3: I talked to some scouts about him. 00:09:47 Speaker 11: They really liked the way he threw the ball when it was most important, and uh, you know, as far as bater is concerned, to me, he's a gamer, he plays hard, good defender. I think that they really felt like they needed somebody who they who can swing the bat against left handers. And I think the numbers there are pretty good. Again, another guy that's sort of been there and done that. And you know, he's sort of a Philadelphia type attitude guy, right He's he's one of those guys that plays hard, likes to play plays for the moment, and uh, you know, I I know it's not Stephen Kwan, but it is someone that you know will add a little right handed you know, a little bit right right handed hitting to to a very left handed lineup. 00:10:34 Speaker 8: Rubin, What kind of gam were you? You were a jam of this team. You went for it, didn't you? You always seem to go for it. I remember looking up all the time. It's like Ruben's traded for Cliff Lee and Roy Holliday and this guy and that guy and all these guys. Right, Yeah, that's awesome. As a player, I respect that and love that. Why why why do those gyms not want to give away prospects, their nineteenth ranked prospect for a proven big league guy. David Browski's not afraid. Prowler is not afraid, Right, the Poto's not afraid. You weren't afraid. Why are some gms just averse to trading their nineteenth rank prospect? 00:11:13 Speaker 11: Well, I think it's not necessarily for some gms, and this is sort of sad. I don't think it's necessarily about winning. 00:11:20 Speaker 3: For some gms. 00:11:21 Speaker 11: It's about preservation and long term, you know, sort of consistency. I my job as a GM, as when I was a GM, was at all costs win. 00:11:34 Speaker 3: I think the fans deserved it. 00:11:35 Speaker 11: I think that's something that's really important in baseball, is to make sure that a fan base has actual hope when they start a season and when they finish the season. Now you have to be realistic too, and at some point you got to you know, cash your chips in and move forward. But you know, if you have a chance, especially in this environment, there's so much parody. 00:11:58 Speaker 3: There's no super teams. 00:12:00 Speaker 11: There's no team that you can look at and say, this is a this is going this is a team that's gonna win the World Series. 00:12:05 Speaker 3: None not one in all Baseball. 00:12:08 Speaker 11: And you know, I like the fact that there is you know, ten, eight, ten, twelve teams that can win the World Series. 00:12:14 Speaker 3: So why not go for it? 00:12:17 Speaker 5: All right, let's talk about Harrison Bader. They went for it with Harrison Bader. Earlier in the show, they asked, guys asked me, they go. Are Philly fans happy? I said, they like the moves, but Philly fans want the moon. You know, you heard it. You heard Howard Eskin barking down your door. Proven you're not gonna make the move for the Actually, Howard Eskin's an Eagles fans, so nobody really cares. But is this Harrison Bader move the coop to Gracie for the team? 00:12:49 Speaker 3: I mean, listen, if it's I always to this. If there is a. 00:12:55 Speaker 11: Marginal difference between where you were on you know, the thirtieth and where you are on the first, or the thirty first and where you are on the first, then. 00:13:03 Speaker 3: I think it's a positive. I think their big move was Durant. 00:13:07 Speaker 11: That was a huge move because you got to share you're supposed to win. Is it, you know, the move that the end all be all? Is it the hundred pence? Is it the huge bat? Not necessarily, but if it makes the team better and it gives the team a little bit more depth and marginally. 00:13:30 Speaker 3: Makes it better, I think it's helpful. 00:13:32 Speaker 11: I'd like to see that offense just in general be a little bit more consistent. 00:13:36 Speaker 3: It has been. 00:13:37 Speaker 11: It has underachieved this year so far, and that that's been a concern. 00:13:42 Speaker 3: But you know, hopefully they can. 00:13:44 Speaker 11: They can get hot when it's when it's important to get hot, and getting hot is in September October. 00:13:52 Speaker 8: Are they done? That's all I want to know. Are the Phillies done? Are your Phillies done with this trade deadline? 00:13:59 Speaker 3: I think that they are. 00:14:00 Speaker 11: But again, Dave Dobrawski and John Middleton, I mean there's sort of help Ben on winning and I honestly, wouldn't be surprised if something else comes down the pike. 00:14:12 Speaker 3: I know that they're all the chips are in. 00:14:14 Speaker 11: When you get a guy like Duran and you give up an able and a tie for him, you're you're basically not just dipping your toe in, You're putting your whole body in. And I would not be surprised if something else happens really late. I don't think it will happen, but nothing surprises me because Dave Debrowski and you know that whole front office is pretty hell ben on winning and that that window may be closing a little bit. 00:14:44 Speaker 8: Sorry, Ruben, Sorry, I have to ask you this because I'm a white Sux's I'm a white Sux fan. 00:14:49 Speaker 7: Would you trade with Luis Robert Jr. 00:14:51 Speaker 8: Or would you do what they're saying to do, which is pick up a twenty million dollar option for next year and maybe try to move him next year. Or would you have said, hey, guys, he's out there, he has the great potential if you get him in the right place, let's ship him out. 00:15:05 Speaker 1: Can I give context here, Rubin real quick, like just an added layer for a GM their thought process. According to many insiders, is that right now, they're like a tenth best prospect on the team and they think they should be getting a top five prospect on a team. The rest of the league's laughing at them based on his performance so far this year. 00:15:22 Speaker 2: So like, fine, we'll take the lottery risk, We'll pick up the twenty mil. 00:15:26 Speaker 1: He's having a bad year up until the last few weeks, and we'll try this again next year and see if we can get that prospect. 00:15:34 Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean, I don't like working on if ads or butts. I mean, this is a guy doesn't really necessarily listen. 00:15:41 Speaker 3: I would take the player. 00:15:43 Speaker 11: I would take the player because he would improve the team for the Philly situation, but I would view him as a complete rental. I would not view him as a guy that I'd put twenty million dollars up and try to trade him, because he hasn't proven to me, that to anybody that he's worth that kind of dollars. He has the ability to do that, he has the talent to do it, but that's totally different from actually, you know, he's on the comp but he still hasn't made it. 00:16:09 Speaker 3: And so if I'm viewing him from. 00:16:13 Speaker 11: The outside, in my view, is this, I'll take this guy as a rental, probably won't pick up his option. If he plays his rear end off for me and I consider picking up one of the options, then then that's then then I've taken the risk. And honestly, I don't know that that he has performed enough and had been healthy enough to be able to give up the kind of quality that maybe they won. 00:16:40 Speaker 1: Rubin last one for you and cited for the Phillies. We were debating this earlier. Do you think that their current bullpen on paper is better than their bullpen last year for the postseason? Because I know Alvarado is going to come back and then he's not going to be allowed to pitch in October. So with Roberts in with Duran, is this a better bullpen than last year? And if it was you running the team right now, would you try and get one more piece? Like there's some super bullpen for Padre's bullpen is insane? Dodgers always have a great bullpen. Mett's have done a really nice job at their bullpen. Have they done enough there? 00:17:13 Speaker 6: Well? 00:17:13 Speaker 11: I think they've done enough in the bullpen because when you start thinking about what they're going to have in the postseason. Now you're talking about Lozardo maybe sliding back into that bullpen. You're talking about the possibility of having Painter sliding back into that bullpen. 00:17:27 Speaker 3: Now, think about how you line up. 00:17:28 Speaker 11: Now, you got Duran, You've got Kirkering, You've got Strom Robertson, Painter Lozardo. I'll take my chances with that bullpen. That's some thunder coming out of there. So I'm okay with that. And you just got to hope the guy's performed. Now, I know Lozardo hasn't done a whole lot in the back end of a bullpen, but he's been there, done it. He's got unbelievable stuff. But I mean that's when you start and Painter hasn't done it, and you have to see him play pitching in the big leagues once, you know, and let him. 00:18:01 Speaker 3: Figure that out. 00:18:02 Speaker 11: But you're talking about the possibility of having some real thunder out of there. 00:18:06 Speaker 3: Would I try to make them another move. I wouldn't stop. 00:18:09 Speaker 11: Until the thirty until a six o'clock hour, my brother, That's how I love that. 00:18:14 Speaker 3: I mean, that's how I would work. I would be held bent on trying to make a move. 00:18:18 Speaker 11: I know that they've held some of their talent capital and some of it's close to the big leagues. 00:18:24 Speaker 3: If they're still a move to be made. You never know. 00:18:27 Speaker 11: You never know when a team will come back. There's so many ebbs and flows. I mean, I think Dave Dombrowski said that they thought that this Duran thing was dead about it, you know, a day ago, but it revived itself somehow, some way because they realized, hey, this is the best offer we're going to get. At some point, some of these sellers they're gonna have to make their move, and so even though they're not getting exactly what they want, they may have to come back and eat a little crow and get it to get a deal. 00:18:55 Speaker 1: Done to move forward, no doubt. Merrill, Kelly's, Ryan O'Hearn, like, there's still names here. Mullin's just got moved to the Mets. Ruben, you're the man. Thank you so much for joining us. They'll recap everything on the Philly Show. They've been doing that all week long, and you should follow them. If you're a Philly Span or if you hate the Phills and you're in the NL East with another team, go for it. 00:19:13 Speaker 2: Thank you, Rubin, You got it, guys, We'll talk to you, okay. 00:19:18 Speaker 1: The Philly Show is part of the Ft network. There it is, It's Salisbury, It's a Lucky and it's Ruben Tomorrow. And actually that's a little look at when they spoke with Jazuslizardo not long ago. You can find that one krats. If I'm new to card collecting and I'm looking for the safest, most trusted way in the game to acquire cards or to buy a card, but not go through a ton of work where I'm going to the shows, I'm going online doing auctions. 00:19:46 Speaker 2: I want it all in one place. I'm going to Arena Club. 00:19:50 Speaker 5: It's all one place. You know you're getting a good price, whether you're buying it or you're selling cards. You can start your collection and if you get them on Arina Club, your collection will look a balseh. 00:20:06 Speaker 1: That's right, And may I mention they also have Pokemon cards and those slab packs that we talk about every week. 00:20:12 Speaker 2: You can rip a pack for. 00:20:13 Speaker 1: As low as twenty five dollars and hit on a card that's worth tens of thousands of dollars because every pack has grails that are at least twenty x the price of the pack. So get involved at arenaclub dot com slash foul. Use the code foul to get twenty percent off your first slab pack or card purchase. Here we go, Adam Jude joining us right now live on FT to talk about the Seattle Mariners. 00:20:36 Speaker 2: Adam, great to have you on the show. 00:20:37 Speaker 1: Obviously, I have to imagine Seattle is freaking out in what they've done here. This is a franchise that hasn't really pushed chips in in my mind until now. You can catch Adams coverage in the Seattle Times. But what are you going to write about in the Times with the hall that they've put together over the past week. 00:20:56 Speaker 12: Yeah, I think the big question that was, you know, do the Mariners maybe have the best and deepest lineup in the American League and are they now potentially the favorites in the in the Al West. 00:21:05 Speaker 13: Obviously, Uh, they. 00:21:06 Speaker 12: Need to play a little better and need to play a little more consistently. And it starts this weekend a huge series. The Mariners are hosting the Texas Rangers. Uh, the Rangers are surging. Uh, they sound like they're active here in the last few hours before the deadline too. But the Mariners recognized that the American League is is wide open, maybe as wide open as it's ever been, as the and as the only franchise that's never been to the World Series. I think it was the Mariners. They were incumbent on, you know, doing everything they could to to add to this team, to to bring back a Gino Suarez, one of the most popular players in recent history for the Manners. He was only here two years, but it felt like a decade, just the impact he had both in the lineup and the clubhouse and with the fan base. So there was a perfect move at the perfect time for the Mariners. And and they might not be done yet. 00:21:56 Speaker 8: Hey Jude, they should make a song. I mean, that's a great name for a song. But I love what the Mirriors have done. Love I absolutely love the moves that they've made. But why haven't they been winning? Because yes, I know Naylor and Suarez are just getting there. But Scott's like, this is a World Series team that can win the World Series, And I get that, but why haven't they been winning consistently. 00:22:17 Speaker 7: They're five games over their five games back. 00:22:20 Speaker 8: Yes, these guys are great moves, but is it enough because there's something not working there so far. Raley's sitting forty plus homers. Billio has been hot, you know, like, what's the problem here? 00:22:32 Speaker 12: Yeah, you're throwing Randy rose Reine there too, who's having the best season of his career. They just haven't been able to put it all together. At the same time. It feels like the offense gets going and then the starting pitching. Starting pitching is kind of down a little bit. Starting pitching picks up. Also on the offenses is slowing down a little bit here too. The bullpen has been up and down a little bit, which is why they're still here in the last few yards for the deadline, trying to add one more. 00:22:57 Speaker 13: High leverage arm into the bullpen. 00:22:59 Speaker 12: I'm not sure they're gonna be able to push anything across the finish line necessarily, but they're trying here. So it's a great question. Aj I've been able to put my finger on it entirely. Obviously, the injuries they're starting rotation in the first half of the season was one of the biggest storylines, probably the biggest storyline after cal Ralely and all he's done. But they're trying to get Logan Gilbert right, They're trying to get George Kirby right. Brian wu has been excellent, Luis Castillo has having one of the best seasons of his career quietly, so if they can get all those things clicking at the same time, they get those starting pitchers consistently. Going six innings into the seventh obviously takes a ton of pressure off that bullpen. But they've just been so streaky. That's kind of who they've been in the past few years. When you're a team like the Mariners who rely so much on the home run ball, you're gonna have some ups and downs. They still have quite a bit of swing and miss in their lineup, so we're seeing some of those just high peaks and low valleys, low low valleys, and obviously as they turn the page here to August, they're hoping to sort of iron some of that out, And you know, they're thinking Geno's could kind of be that guy. He's the good vibes guy, and maybe he'll bring a little more consistency as well. 00:24:05 Speaker 5: Couldn't They have had Josh Naylor and Hieo Suarez at the beginning of the year, when they were coming off a season when all five starters stayed healthy and they weren't scratching and clawing with their bullpen. They're like, they were primed this offseason to go and get a Pete Alonso, and now it's like, oh, great, yeah. 00:24:25 Speaker 10: We're gonna kind of go for it. 00:24:27 Speaker 5: Even though it looks like great moves they could have done this early and they did. 00:24:33 Speaker 13: It right, it's a fair counterpoint. 00:24:36 Speaker 12: And you know, you if they had done this, you know, six months ago, you're looking at a team that's maybe ten games over five hundred and instead of five and just cleaning to that last wild card spot. Right now, I don't have a great answer for it other than this is who the Mariners are. They had only fifteen million dollars to spend in the offseason. That's one Geno Suarez, and so that would have been their only move in the offseason if he was even conceivably available. But when you're operating on a fairly limited budget at times, you've got to take what you can get. Your Mariners front office, and again that's been an ongoing conversation with the fan base here in Seattle, Why isn't the ownership kind of pushing all in doing that one move, those two moves that seems so obvious to everyone else, just to put them over the top. But here they are, you know, they felt like their prospects, we're gonna be a little more valuable here in the summertime. I think that's turned out to be true. Tyler Locklear. It was a big piece in the return for Gino. He really built up his value this year. He's been one of the biggest best sluggers and in the minor leagues at first base here, particularly. 00:25:36 Speaker 13: Over the last month or so. 00:25:37 Speaker 12: But yeah, the Mariners, you know, it was obviously a huge talking point all winter here. Trust me, I heard from the fan base every day all the time. Again, it just seems so obvious to the rest of us outside the organization, and the Mariners knew that too. But the ownership is just now willing to pay retail price or not willing to pay sticker price for free agents, and they feel like they get a bargain here with two months left in the season. Instead of paying fifteen million dollars for Gino Suarez, you're paying less than five for yes, two months of service. 00:26:07 Speaker 13: But they feel like they still. 00:26:08 Speaker 12: Have enough time left here to maybe make a push, and if they get in the postseason, the Marions have a chance to be one of the toughest outs in the playoffs. 00:26:16 Speaker 7: All right, I love these moves. I I want to make this one hundred percent obvious. 00:26:19 Speaker 2: But we have one minute until we got to hit a turn break so quick. 00:26:22 Speaker 10: No real quick. 00:26:23 Speaker 7: Genos Warez was let go because he swung and miss too much. They wanted to get away from that. Now they brought him back. Why why if this was their guy, they should have just kept him. 00:26:31 Speaker 12: Right, Well, he's never been this good. Of course, he's been one of the best sluggers in baseball over the last. 00:26:36 Speaker 8: He was good, but Seattle. He's always been good, but Seattle. Remember he can't hit bad batters, idold you whatever. The other crowd almost. 00:26:44 Speaker 13: He lost his starting job in Arizona fourteen months ago. 00:26:47 Speaker 12: He was he was really scuffling there too, So all credits to Gino for really turning it around and figuring it out. He's thirty four years old now, having a career year, and obviously he's setting himself up for a really nice payday as a free agent, this. 00:26:58 Speaker 13: Winner, and it couldn't happen to a better guy. 00:26:59 Speaker 12: I think that's why the Mariners and their players, and their fan base and their front offers are so excited to get him, because he's the perfect fit, perfect guy, a great guy at the right time. 00:27:08 Speaker 1: Adam, great stuff, Thank you for joining us. And last thing, just thumbs up or thumbs down? Do we have one move left for Seattle? Thumbs up or down? 00:27:16 Speaker 9: To it? 00:27:16 Speaker 2: Do they get a bullpen. 00:27:17 Speaker 13: Arm putting me on the ste here? 00:27:20 Speaker 14: I'm gonna have down. 00:27:21 Speaker 13: They're running out of time here? Yeah, probably they're trying. 00:27:25 Speaker 1: They're trying, but okay, yeah, hey, world, serious contender in my mind, I don't know if I can convince these guys yet, but I'll work on it. Make sure you check out all of Adam's work in Seattle Times. Adam, thanks so much for hopping on with us last minute. 00:27:37 Speaker 2: Appreciate you guys. 00:27:38 Speaker 1: Let's talk to Faby and Ardy right now from the Athletic about the less great to have you on. Thank you for the time. You can check out all of his work in the Athletic. What what do you have for us on the Dodgers. I mean, they pick up rock Stewart, They did a lot of their work in the offseason. Krats is snoozing about it. I think he'll be good. I mean he's been good for the twin this year. But what do you think so far? 00:28:02 Speaker 15: Yeah, I think the Dodgers spent this much of this offseason because they wanted to avoid having much to do this deadline. I don't think they expected this deadline though, going into this week coming in. I obviously they've gone on their targets. Then sort of the name's flown out there, and I think brox Stewart's the guy that kind of made a lot of sense, especially at that price. They only had to give up James Outman, who really wasn't playing. They haven't given up anyone really from their farm system yet, neither of these deals. And they managed to get at least a couple of interesting arms in rox Stewart and Paul Travasse. But there's still a lot of work to do, and obviously there's the big fish out there still with Stephen quant So we'll see what happens there. 00:28:40 Speaker 5: I know it's a right, it's not a rivalry. We asked Max Muntsey the Padres and not a rivalry, it's the Giants and Dodgers. 00:28:47 Speaker 10: But are they looking down? 00:28:51 Speaker 5: Are they looking down the coast in San Diego and going that team is getting a little too close for comfort? 00:28:59 Speaker 15: I think they did last year during the DS Like, I think they kind of acknowledged that that was a team that was probably the best team that they faced during that run. And I think Kei and Fernanson kind of told me, like that team was better than last year's Dodgers team. 00:29:10 Speaker 14: Obviously Dodgers were not. 00:29:11 Speaker 15: Winning that series, but like that was a team that pushed the Dodgers, and they pushed the Dodgers, especially with their bullpen. I you've seen that now with that, that just kind of reinforces that, and the lineup is even deeper now. That was maybe the one thing you can have to point out is like, all right, maybe the bench is a little bit thin, but yeah, that Padres team they're threatening to push the Dodgers. Who and the division leads only three games at this point. I think you kind of look at it like the Dodgers had to cushion here for a while, but that cushion's not as big as it used to be, so Obviously, the Dodgers have a lot of faith in what they have coming back and what they already have on the roster, But Padres don't look like they're going anyway anywhere anytime soon the Dodgers. 00:29:47 Speaker 8: We keep hearing about Russia and all these guys that the Dodgers might trade. 00:29:51 Speaker 7: They're not trading any of those guys, are they. Why would they trade those guys? I don't I don't see them. They have to have other guys they could trade, but those two guys to me seem like two guys that they wouldn't want to try unless it would be for something huge. 00:30:02 Speaker 15: Yeah, Basically every education I've gotten for like the last week and a half has been like, they're not moving Dalton Rushing or Alex Freeland. Like Dave Roberts even said on record, I don't see Dalton Rushing moving, which is not something you hear on the record at least. So, Yeah, I just don't see how they do that unless it's for something huge. But I don't think the Doctors necessarily can do anything huge at this point. 00:30:22 Speaker 14: We'll see. 00:30:22 Speaker 15: Obviously, there's still a little bit more than an hour until the deadline. Could be the surprise. But yeah, I think they have enough depth in the lower levels of the miners guys like that, and some interesting arms that would make some sense. 00:30:32 Speaker 14: And then we've already seen a couple. 00:30:34 Speaker 15: Of moves off the big league ross, at least the big league depth, trading away James Outman and Hunter Producia to help address some other. 00:30:41 Speaker 5: Needs, and James Outman was pinch run like that's a guy that needs to play, in my opinion, every day in the big leagues. 00:30:49 Speaker 10: He showed it is. 00:30:51 Speaker 5: There a need that if they're going to address it would be like, Wow, that's the number one need that will not only just like be a stop gap till this person gets healthy, that starting rotation guy gets healthy. 00:31:05 Speaker 10: Is there what is that need specifically? 00:31:09 Speaker 15: Yeah, I don't think necessarily they're gonna shoot for another believer, but if for some reason they go out land like another high leverage reliever and then all of a sudden, you get okay, that bullpen question is kind of solved, or if they go out and add a bat because that that was sort of the thinking this winner and signing Micha All right, even if you have some pitching questions and questions about healthy, this is gonna be a lineup that's going to bang enough to sort of make up for it, and obviously hasn't quite fully played out, especially the last couple of months when you've seen the guys like Oskar, guys like Freddie Freeman will keep that struggling. But if you can get a lineup that's kind of doesn't have any holes in it, that's really tough to face in October, especially if you can get one or two of those guys going. So if they can find a bat here in this next hour or so, that makes sense, or if they sprobably someone and just add another impact arm. 00:31:55 Speaker 7: Don't they have that coming though? 00:31:57 Speaker 8: Here's when all these guys come back now and Sazaki who knows when he's coming back, but when they get on and this like another trade deadline because Snow isn't still supposed to start this weekend, and then if Sazaki comes back, and Kopek comes back and this guy comes back, I mean, they have a long list of guys that could come back. Isn't that just like the Dodgers will make our trade when our injuries get better? 00:32:16 Speaker 14: No, I mean that's what we're what they're saying. 00:32:18 Speaker 15: Obviously, like, you don't know exactly what guys are gonna look like once they come back. Obviously they're confident Tanner Scott's cann come back, but you don't know what he's gonna look like. 00:32:24 Speaker 14: You don't know. 00:32:26 Speaker 15: Still it to have Blake trying and sort of get back into form. Michael Kopek, Bruce dark Graderol, it's just a lot of questions and having a certified answer at least makes it a lot easier. But yeah, like I could definitely see the bullpen improving just by proxy up guys get pushed out of the rotation and having guys like Emma she and maybe be an interesting guy out of the pen in October as opposed to well being essentially if fit started the rest of the way right now? 00:32:51 Speaker 5: Is this a Dodgers team that has to win the division because the Padres all the upgrade everything everybody's until they start playing games, everybody the Padres are gonna make a run at the division? Does it do the Dodgers based on the fact that they have guys that just have extra injury risk, you want to give that time to be able to recoup at the end of the season. Do you say they have to win the division to have a successful postseason run or can they be a wild card and still make a good run. 00:33:21 Speaker 15: Mean, I think the talent, you can't rule them on at any point, but like their team that especially the last year, Like if they didn't have the first round by last year, I don't know where they would be just because they were. Remember last year, Freddy Freeman had just gotten hurt. This is an older veteran ball club. I think it's the oldest position player group. 00:33:37 Speaker 14: In the majors. 00:33:37 Speaker 15: Like, so, yeah, I think any time off definitely helps and allows the Dodgers to set up their pitching when you're looking at the guy like a Yamamoto or Otani where you kind of really want to be diligent about giving them days off, even during October. 00:33:49 Speaker 14: So yeah, I do think it helps. It helps to get the buye helps to get to win the division. Obviously, the Padres aren't going to make it easy this year. 00:33:57 Speaker 2: So we appreciate the time. 00:34:02 Speaker 8: It's fascinating, especially with the Dodgers kind of sitting on the sidelines. Remember they were all in on everybody. It's kind of it's fascinating, especially with the team in their division literally throwing everything out there. 00:34:13 Speaker 2: Yeah, they had a banger trade last year the Dodgers. 00:34:15 Speaker 7: Here's the thing, so did the Padres when they got Scott? Remember Adam like the news lost? True. Yeah, here's my thing though. 00:34:21 Speaker 8: The reason that the Padres and these other teams are doing this because the Dodgers aren't invincible and they smell it. They smell blood in the water and they are like, we might be able to actually take these guys down and we're not afraid of them, and so teams are going for it and I love it. Kind of thank you to the Dodgers for not being as great as we thought they might be. 00:34:42 Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not a one hundred and thirty win team. 00:34:44 Speaker 7: I never thought they would never lose a game now they are. 00:34:47 Speaker 14: Yeah, hey, well they haven't broken baseball. 00:34:49 Speaker 2: Yeah exactly. Thanks for the. 00:34:51 Speaker 14: Time, all right, thanks for having guys. 00:34:53 Speaker 2: So let's ask former front office executive Sack Scott. Is he ready to go? 00:35:00 Speaker 1: Great to have you on. We're hot on the meta topic. And obviously you are dialed in on this team. You know them well and you talk about them on S and Y all the time. 00:35:06 Speaker 2: What do you think? Great, they're trade deadline? If this is it. 00:35:11 Speaker 9: You know, there's so many prospects, so like to put an actual grade on it, It's tough because I don't there's eleven guys. 00:35:17 Speaker 6: They move so far, I believe, which is but. 00:35:20 Speaker 9: As you guys were talking to you, I don't think any of them are going to really burn them. But I've done trades before where I thought that the kay burns you, So you never know. Yeah, there's I love that they filled their needs and we're aggressive doing it. I mean, I do think when you have a chance to win it, and I think in their circumstances, it's more about they should. 00:35:42 Speaker 6: Feel confident they're going to get there. 00:35:43 Speaker 9: So this is more about what you do when you get there, and to acquire three high leverage believers to bring in a good, complimentary center fielder to what they already have. 00:35:53 Speaker 6: I think they filled their needs in a really good way. 00:35:57 Speaker 1: Well let's go down the line here and let's start with the bullpen. I mean, how do you stack up this bullpen now with the rest of baseball? How October is it? And you know how important is it to kind of fill the needs up. They've got the guys to get out lefties, including the ones in their own division like Harper and Schwarber. They've got the uniqueness of a Rogers and then they've got two closers. 00:36:20 Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean I think they are set up as well as anyone else. They may have the best bullpen in the game. I mean, it's really hard to find flaws in their pen. They got a lot of options. The key is just going to obviously is for everyone's health, and in particular with the Mets. You know their starters don't go deep into games, or at least haven't. You know what's going to happen these last couple of months with play homes. Those are kind of the question marks that could have some impact on their bullpen if they have to be overused. But you know, on paper, the talent they have is just as good as anyone's. 00:36:54 Speaker 10: That bullpen is going to have to. 00:36:58 Speaker 5: Unless they get a star because of exactly what you said. When you go through all their starters, who's getting them even if it's a foreig inning game, some of these guys are coming up against it. Sean and Ia didn't start the season, Frankie Montas, you know, it's always you know, where's he gonna be? How how long is he gonna go. Do they have enough in that bullpen? I get their bullpen's awesome, the guys they have, but do they have enough to get all nine innings all twenty seven outs? 00:37:29 Speaker 9: Well, I think that's the key is that you know, they've gotten some guys that shorten the game for them, but they're also not you know, you also need some long relievers in today's game, especially when your starters are going, you know, two times through the lineup and getting pulled for whatever reason, whether that's their actual limit or philosophically. So yeah, it's that's the question. I mean, they're every team is going to have a flaw. There's no perfect team, and I think that's probably the question mark around this team is what are you getting out. 00:37:55 Speaker 6: Of your starters. 00:37:56 Speaker 9: You don't want to tax your bullpen to the point where you get in October. You're gonna have to lean on them even more heavily than typically. You don't want them. You want them to be ready to go for a long, a deep run. 00:38:08 Speaker 8: We just had this conversation with with said Mullins going over to the to the Mets. How much does he improve their outfield in general, not defensively, but also offensively, Taylor struggled Tyrone, Taylor struggled here last month or so, McNeil's been playing center field. How big of an impact does this have? And in cityfield is a big outfield compared to camp yards, it is a much larger outfield to cover. 00:38:31 Speaker 9: Yeah, you want to have good outfield defense in that ballpark. I think he's a good Like I said before, I think he's a good complimentary piece. Obviously, the offense hasn't been there. You know, the speeds doubt. You know, he's got elite speed. Defense can be end of time. But you know, he saw him make a great athletic play the other night. I mean, he has the ability. But I think what it does is it gives them options. Right, You've got Taylor's a really good defender. I mean you can, I know, they McNeil out there, so you can kind of you know, you only have one shot at this deadline. 00:39:04 Speaker 6: There's no August Waivers anymore. 00:39:05 Speaker 10: Right, So. 00:39:07 Speaker 9: As many quality pieces as you can and then put the puzzle together as you go. Because you have no injuries, You're gonna happen, you just don't know where necessarily, And so this is a good thing. 00:39:21 Speaker 1: Hey, bring on let's four box this crats are there. I'm here, I'm texting you, and you're not responding to me. Bring your tryout question to him. See what he says. 00:39:32 Speaker 5: He didn't text me I said, I said, it's a try out between I said, it's a try out between Taylor Tyrone. Taylor and Cedric Muhens both have zero at bats right now. Whoever plays the best the rest of the way gets the job. 00:39:49 Speaker 6: Yeah, I think that's fair. 00:39:51 Speaker 9: I mean, you start breaking the season down into these smaller periods of time. 00:39:56 Speaker 6: I mean, that's basically how it is. 00:39:58 Speaker 10: Is. 00:39:58 Speaker 9: No one could, no team is gonna accurately predict who is gonna be the best over the next two months of these guys that you know are solid but flawed players, and so it's a competition. And they also can match guys up a little bit differently with this, with these two guys on the roster. So yeah, I think that's absolutely right. You're gonna pick your spots with matchups. Mendoza is gonna have to do that, and you know, probably ride the hot hand if a guy seems like he's locked in. I mean I just think, yeah, that's exactly when you're talking about players of this calendarer where there's no no one's clearly should have the job handed to them. 00:40:34 Speaker 6: They're gonna have to earn it. 00:40:36 Speaker 8: Okay, hold up, agree before well crowds is like I was, right, Jack, Let me ask, Let me let me rephrase the question into a real question, not like it's a tryout. They just traded for Cedric Mullins. He's gonna get the majority of the playing time unless he absolutely crashes. He's gonna not lose his job right away. No, but he'd have to absolutely because when they trade for this guy, he's going to get the majority of the time, at least for a little bit, right until they say, all right, well man, maybe Tyrone Taylor is the answer. 00:41:09 Speaker 3: Yeah. 00:41:09 Speaker 9: Like I said, I think they'll be you know, I remember Alex Cora telling me in twenty eighteen. It's really all about matchups, you know, putting guys in the position where they can succeed against all this information they're using to figure out what's the best matchup for these guys when you're trying to share playing time. This is going to get the first opportunity for sure. My point, I guess is just if he doesn't do much with that opportunity, there may be a quicker hook. It depends on what's going on. There's a lot of different circumstances at play, and maybe McNeil gets back in the picture if Cedric really struggles. But yes, absolutely he's going to get the first crack at it, and ideally they're hoping that he's the guy for the rest of the way, at least against Righty's Zach. 00:41:53 Speaker 1: One more Matt's question, and then we'll finish speaking news that I know many of our fans are excited to hear about. But also apparently we're talking to the White Sox about Luis Robert. So the two part question here is would you rather have Cedric Mullins or Luis Robert? And do you agree with the White Sox reported decision that they're likely going to hang on to Robert, pay him twenty million dollars to be part of next year's team, hope that he looks like the twenty three version, and try to get the upper echelon prospect that they're seeking that no one wants to give them. 00:42:28 Speaker 9: I would have preferred Robert just because I actually think he's a little better defensively, and you know, there's upside in the bat, but honestly, I'm not. I mean, he's had his last seven hundred and fifty plate appearances or so have been pretty bad, so it's hard to really that he's going to bounce back to his previous version of himself. He just maybe kind of where he is now. I mean, obviously you're going to try everything you can to get the most out of him. So, you know, from the Met's perspective, I think I would have preferred him, but I don't know what the cost was. This may have been more cost efficient. Owns may fit a little bit better in some ways with who they already have. As far as the White Sox perspective, yeah, I don't really understand why they're holding on to him that set. They know the market, they know what they've been offered. I don't know what they've been offered, so you know, maybe they've seen enough there's enough of a market that they think it'll be there in the off season, but I don't really see it, or maybe they just feel like the offers are just not meeting the bar. I mean, I don't like to just dump players for the best deal if the best deal isn't something you like, so you know, hold on to him hope you know, there's a price where it's low enough that you just hold onto him and hope he performs and you can trade him next. 00:43:39 Speaker 6: Year at the deadline or maybe in the off season. 00:43:42 Speaker 9: But yeah, that the price would have to be the offers would have to be pretty poor for me to want. 00:43:48 Speaker 10: To do that. 00:43:49 Speaker 3: Yeah. 00:43:49 Speaker 1: The crazy thing to me is I think agin after this year and is bat continues to look the way it does not the last few weeks, but the last ten to fifty played appearances. I don't think he gets twenty million dollars in the off season if he was a free agent. So they're basically so stubborn that they're going to hold onto him, overpay him and see if they can get something else for him in the future. It just doesn't make sense. But anyway, last one for you, Carlos Correa just got traded back to the Houston Astros that had been talked about the last twenty four hours or so. We don't know all the details about the money everything else, but just wanted to get your reaction to the news there. Correa, you know, has had a really interesting ride through At one point signing with the Giants the Mets, the physical didn't pass for him, ends back up with the Twins. They told him they were going to add. Then they go through the sale process right now, so the Twins are in cell mode. Add this all up, and what do you think? 00:44:38 Speaker 2: And do you think that Correa still has it because he's had a down year. 00:44:44 Speaker 9: So you know, I don't know the details of his medical history. I wasn't with the Mets when they signed him. I know, when there were rumors coming out about this possibly happening, I thought that's a lot of sense, especially for the Twins. I think they need a little bit of a reset in some ways. I think he's a risky player as he ages and given some of the health issues of the past, so moving on from him makes some sense for them given where they're at, you know. And I think that's a questionable acquisition for youson. Again, I don't know all the details. We don't know all the details. Will see what the money looks like, what the p you know, prospect package if there is one going back to the Twins. We'll see what that all looks like. To really make a final determination on how fair that deal is. But I didn't love that for the Astros when I heard the rumor, but I did like it for the Twins. 00:45:33 Speaker 1: Wow, Okay, well, Zach, thanks for joining us. A lot happening during the ten minutes that we talk. Appreciate the time. Zach's a great follow on Twitter. He breaks down a lot of moves and a lot of player evaluation talk and then also you can catch him on SNY as well as Zach Thank you for the time. Thanks guys, trade deadline winners and losers or losers and winners. 00:45:53 Speaker 2: So losers Cubs didn't get a starter. 00:45:57 Speaker 7: Cubs were just name me one team. Are we gonna keep going? Now? 00:46:01 Speaker 2: You could do one. That's a big loser, right. 00:46:03 Speaker 8: Cubs, because because they didn't get I don't I don't feel like they needed. 00:46:07 Speaker 7: A start and they didn't get it. 00:46:08 Speaker 1: They're gonna say we picked up Mike's Soroka. That's a starter, and you're gonna say not for me in the playoffs, Yep, they're gonna say we picked up Andrew Kittridge for the bullpen. They're gonna say we picked up Willie Castro for and the grade for them is. 00:46:34 Speaker 7: I'm throwing the Brewers in there. 00:46:35 Speaker 10: Too. 00:46:36 Speaker 7: So the national central to me is weird. 00:46:39 Speaker 2: How about the Reds to that? And no Central had a weird death. 00:46:42 Speaker 8: The Brewers did nothing, the Cubs did minimal, The Reds did crazy moves and the other two teams and the Pirates were the Pirates. 00:46:51 Speaker 7: They didn't but they why did not trade Andrew? 00:46:54 Speaker 8: Yes, they traded Bednar, but he he's a free agent, he's having a great year. 00:46:57 Speaker 7: Trade him. 00:46:58 Speaker 8: They got rid of Brian Hayes with Chelps. But like Santana, if you could have got something for him, there's a lot of moves there that could have been made that they didn't make. 00:47:05 Speaker 2: I would have sold high on Tantana. 00:47:07 Speaker 10: I don't know. 00:47:08 Speaker 7: It's it's it's it's I don't know. They're not central to me? Is interesting. 00:47:13 Speaker 1: And the Cubs did get Taylor Rodgers from the Pirates, two bullpen pieces, Rogers and Kittridge. 00:47:21 Speaker 7: The Pirates, I don't think so. 00:47:22 Speaker 2: But he could get cut and then picked up. 00:47:24 Speaker 1: You would think, yeah, okay, so they're your losers, Air Kraft, are you ready for your loser? 00:47:32 Speaker 5: Besides the entire minor league system of the Padres and the Twins because they lost all their players, they couldn't be bigger losers, more losers. To me, the Red Sox are one and a half games up in the wild part. They're not even the last wild card team right now. Young team that is all piss and ventner. They want to go out and win. They play seem like they play hard. They seem like they had a lot of places they could have really upgraded to make this team what it could be another run in the playoffs, and the rest of the American League East was really pushing hard. You kind of have to keep up with them. But the biggest reason why did they get rid of Rafael Devers Because they felt like it was going to be an upgrade by subtraction. Oh and they saved a lot of money. They could have made a big splash because there was people moving, There was players moving that were not just rentals. They could have gotten into some of that money, and to me, they didn't. They got some nice pieces. I think they're one of the other big losers. 00:48:39 Speaker 2: Okay, I thought the Tigers should have done more. 00:48:44 Speaker 7: Yeah, they did some stuff. Dodgers didn't do much. 00:48:48 Speaker 1: Now I'm gonna put the Tigers on the loser board. Charlie Moore in Paul se Waald, Kyle Finnegain, Cody Heuer, Rafael Montero. I mean some of these guys are flyers that might not be on the team in a month. Like Rafael Montero needs to turn it around. It's got a five and. 00:49:07 Speaker 7: A half ra he's been bad for years. That's why he's. 00:49:11 Speaker 2: Gotten bounced around. 00:49:11 Speaker 1: Oh, the Astros couldn't wait to cut Baid then he wasn't good on the Braves either. 00:49:16 Speaker 2: Expected Era is good. He's got a good splitter. Yeah, Fineganel help, but he hasn't had a good year either. 00:49:23 Speaker 6: I don't know. 00:49:23 Speaker 2: Just none of those guys to me, look like they're going to. 00:49:30 Speaker 5: I think they're in the men. I think they're in the met category, not loser met category. 00:49:35 Speaker 1: Yeah, but if you're the Tigers and you've been building up for a while, right, they went through a rebuild. Wasn't this the year to strike? American League's kind of weird, just like last year. I mean, look what they did last year. 00:49:48 Speaker 3: I agree. 00:49:49 Speaker 2: I wanted them to get Gino. Yeah, they went for Bregman in the offseason. You got a chance to get Gino. For some reason, it wasn't for them. 00:50:02 Speaker 1: So I put them there. Okay, okay, ready, let's hit trade deadline winners. 00:50:09 Speaker 10: Pew. 00:50:11 Speaker 1: I think we should let Crats go first because he knew they were gonna win and wore their hat. 00:50:19 Speaker 10: I mean that was my that was my all in moment. 00:50:21 Speaker 5: I was going all in saying, yeah, it was cool that the Mason Miller stuff JP sears. 00:50:28 Speaker 10: I didn't know they were going to do what they've done. 00:50:31 Speaker 5: I mean, they have just absolutely shredded everybody at this trade deadline going to pan out. I don't think they're all going to pan out, no, but it doesn't matter. They don't have to all pan out. They addressed every area of need. Did they get there because I'm forgetting now, did they get their left fielder that they needed? 00:50:54 Speaker 10: The bat? 00:50:54 Speaker 2: Yes, I know it's here. Let me help you. So there. The Padres are complicated. We can't go over trade by trade. 00:51:00 Speaker 1: I think we need to just like look at their roster and go, let's just go position by a position really quick. Let's start a catcher. They needed a catcher. Freddy fer Meed got it boom from the Royals. Good defender can swing it a little bit offensive upgrade boom. 00:51:14 Speaker 2: There you go. Okay, they needed to fix a DH slash. 00:51:21 Speaker 7: And another bullpen on They got Mason Miller. 00:51:23 Speaker 2: Right, but for DH outfield, they got Ryan O'Hearn and Loreo and Ramon Loriano great okay, now starting pitcher JP Sears added to the mix, and Michael King he's gonna come back soon. 00:51:39 Speaker 10: And Nestor and they kept Dylan ceas everyone was talking about Dylan. They got them all. 00:51:46 Speaker 2: Yeah, because aj Preller picked up a bunch of guys that don't cost anything. He didn't take on massive money. 00:51:52 Speaker 1: That was like the big oh, how are they going to navigate this deadline? And he's like, I'm just gonna pick up all league minimum guys and get rid of of my entire minor league system and to start fresh next year. So that's what he did. And that bullpen has five eighth ninth inning guys. On most teams, they've got five guys who pitch in the eighth or ninth Estrata is an eighth or ninth inning guy, Jason Adam is an eighth or ninth inning guy, Morey Jane has emerged into an eighth or ninth inning guy. And then you have Suarez and Mason Miller who was picked up as a big. 00:52:33 Speaker 7: I'm gonna watch make another move. 00:52:36 Speaker 5: I'm gonna watch Padres games every night. 00:52:40 Speaker 13: Mhm. 00:52:42 Speaker 1: It's gonna be really fun. So they're the winners, but we're doing the segment to pick three. 00:52:48 Speaker 7: I think the Phillies did a nice job. Yankees did a good job. Reloaded their bullpen, not only for this year but possibly for years to come. 00:52:54 Speaker 2: Who's your second highest winner to the Padres. 00:52:59 Speaker 7: I'm gonna Yankees. 00:53:00 Speaker 14: People aren't like that Yankees, I. 00:53:02 Speaker 7: Think because they did a nice job. I think they filled some needs. 00:53:04 Speaker 8: They got Caby hero who can cover for him for Volpi if he goes bad, can steal. 00:53:08 Speaker 7: Your base, you know important stolen bases are in the World Series in playoffs. Dave Roberts, Oh yeah, they reloaded their bullpen. They made their bullpen better with Bednar and uh and three three, and they covered for next year. Williams and Williams and Weaverley. 00:53:25 Speaker 1: Also work, including the whole trade month. So Ryan mcmannon Austin Slater and Amed Rosario to hit lefties. 00:53:34 Speaker 7: Yes, they did a nice job. 00:53:35 Speaker 2: It's pretty good work, all right. I'm gonna get you. 00:53:40 Speaker 7: Royals got Mica Strimsky. 00:53:43 Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I'm gonna give you my winner, okay, mm hmm. Minnesota Twins fans, they're winners. 00:53:53 Speaker 1: Yeah, because this team completely cleared up their books, including a big contract in Carlos And I know they're covering a lot of it, but not actually as much as you think. Bob Nightingale, Bob by Nightingale, who covers the Twins's They're putting in thirty three million dollars to cover the remaining contract of one oh four over the next three and a half seasons. 00:54:19 Speaker 10: Who so Correa is cost them like twenty million a year basically. 00:54:24 Speaker 1: Okay, so one oh four, right, But so they owed one oh four left? Okay, they cleared seventy one million dollars on the Korea deal alone. So let me tell you why Twins fans win. This team's gonna get sold. They just made it easier to sell the team. I know it's a ridiculous thing, but the best thing that can happen to this team is someone else taking over. 00:54:51 Speaker 2: They desperately need that. 00:54:54 Speaker 7: I played there, Bro. 00:54:55 Speaker 2: I know, but it's gonna happen. 00:54:56 Speaker 7: Plus years ago, they still have them. They remember they were going working at We're gonna, oh, We're gonna sum is. 00:55:02 Speaker 8: Oh boy, you have to have uncle, you know, little grandson Joe be part of the ownership. 00:55:05 Speaker 7: They're like, no, we. 00:55:06 Speaker 6: Want our own team. 00:55:07 Speaker 2: Yeah, it's gonna happen. 00:55:09 Speaker 10: Yeah, but what we just traded away everybody? They were pissed going into the year. 00:55:14 Speaker 1: If you told Twins fans, hey, you need to shed your whole roster, but you'll get a new owner, ten would say where do I sign new roster? 00:55:24 Speaker 2: New owner? 00:55:24 Speaker 1: Ten out of ten, I'll sign anywhere? Where do you want me to sign? I'll sign on your but cheet. I don't give a shit. They need a new owner. This is the way to do it. I know it sounds painful, but I think they're actually going to get sold this year. 00:55:40 Speaker 7: I hope so. 00:55:42 Speaker 2: Because wait, just to the quick timelines. 00:55:44 Speaker 7: Fans don't listen to them. 00:55:45 Speaker 2: Wait, quick timeline, you're not you're not. 00:55:48 Speaker 7: You should be pissed. 00:55:49 Speaker 1: Quick timeline twenty twenty three, make the playoffs. Nice year, win a playoff series, a wild card series, and had a. 00:55:56 Speaker 2: Fun divisional series. Right, that's what happened two years ago. 00:56:01 Speaker 10: Yeah. 00:56:02 Speaker 2: I don't think I've ever seen a team go from that to this. The next year they start dumping players in payroll, right, I feel like it's a little different. 00:56:14 Speaker 7: When he talks twenty one three dumping people. 00:56:16 Speaker 1: Yeah, but the Pirate the White Sox first started falling apart, the Twins weren't falling apart. They just decided to scale back from what they had, and Twins fans were losing their mind, like, what is this. 00:56:27 Speaker 2: We've been waiting for this moment. You even got a new ballpark to do this. 00:56:32 Speaker 1: And they went the other way because the pull out idiot was like, oh, it's not matching up with my revenue whatever, And I think he got enough public pressure. 00:56:40 Speaker 2: That he was like, all right, I'm done with this. My legacy's smashed. Let's sell the team. So all right, I just wanted to give you guys a curveball. 00:56:46 Speaker 1: Really, the padres onres won the trade deadline, Yankeys, Philly. 00:56:54 Speaker 2: As you said, Mets, what about the Metsts Yes, Mullins. 00:56:58 Speaker 5: I was gonna say that would have been after you drop, I would say the Mets. I would say, well, I didn't meet myself, if that's the case, but not muted. 00:57:10 Speaker 2: Oh my commuting my pack died. What are you talking about? 00:57:15 Speaker 10: That's okay? 00:57:16 Speaker 5: But no, I think the Mets reshaped their bullpen in the sense that they got so many different looks now and they have I mean, you look at what they. 00:57:26 Speaker 10: Have on paper and you're like, yeah. 00:57:29 Speaker 5: Obviously, there's always the question of how's this person going to pitch in New York? How is Ryan Helsley going to pitch as not a closer? How is you know, how are transitions for guys gonna work? Obviously that can be said about anybody's transition to any new team. But I really think that they the upgrades that they made were very significant. 00:57:52 Speaker 10: I would say they would be third. 00:57:55 Speaker 8: You can't disagree, yep. 00:58:00 Speaker 7: Ch
