<v Speaker 1>He'll be don't be bad. It's the Internet. You're busy.
<v Speaker 2>Let's do this for August fifth, twenty twenty four. For
<v Speaker 2>the next hour or so, let me help you sort
<v Speaker 2>through the world of gaming on Game Mess Mornings Live
<v Speaker 2>with Me Jeff Grubb. Today, a global market crash is happening.
<v Speaker 2>But that is okay because Zelda rides a cute horse.
<v Speaker 2>But first, please join me and welcome me. Today's co
<v Speaker 2>host the Game Mess Mornings. It's Sean Turbo, Sean McDowell. Sean,
<v Speaker 2>how are you doing.
<v Speaker 3>Being exposed to too much natural light? Here?
<v Speaker 1>I gotta figure out yea with all that curtains back
<v Speaker 1>up there, Yeah, pale over here and then so yeah,
<v Speaker 1>it's backwards.
<v Speaker 2>I lived in a a not an apartment townhouse sort
<v Speaker 2>of thing, but either way, I was renting there and
<v Speaker 2>I had my room was too bright, so I put
<v Speaker 2>up like tied die like blankets and it was up
<v Speaker 2>for a day before the landlord was like, no way,
<v Speaker 2>you can't have that, really okay, I mean.
<v Speaker 3>You can't project to the world that you're a stoner exactly.
<v Speaker 1>You can't just let them know, just let them know
<v Speaker 1>about it. Yeah. I was like, all right, whatever, I'll
<v Speaker 1>take him down. Yeah, how you doing, Sean.
<v Speaker 2>I had a good weekend of Summer Slam, But I'm
<v Speaker 2>more curious about what you did.
<v Speaker 1>How how was your stuff? Dick Hall Just yea, get
<v Speaker 1>caught up on short too.
<v Speaker 3>It's it's the thing where, you know, my little trip
<v Speaker 3>a few weeks back then set me back for the
<v Speaker 3>following week, which we had a busy week here at
<v Speaker 3>GB and then you know, send me back the following
<v Speaker 3>week and so yeah, I'm still kind of just getting
<v Speaker 3>caught up on all that. So very uneventful weekend. But
<v Speaker 3>I had tacos last night, and that's always good time.
<v Speaker 1>That's a good time.
<v Speaker 2>That's absolutely I Yeah, when we were at SummerSlam, actually
<v Speaker 2>a steph and my mother in law took some took
<v Speaker 2>the kids to like go do some back to school shopping,
<v Speaker 2>and then they went to our little like the closest
<v Speaker 2>restaurant is a restaurant to us is a really nice
<v Speaker 2>little Mexican restaurant.
<v Speaker 1>They went there and had a good time. I'm like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>I'm jealous. I would have liked that. Uh yeah, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>Summerslim was fun.
<v Speaker 2>Well, we'll find a place to talk about it on
<v Speaker 2>on the website somewhere, but.
<v Speaker 3>Show about wrestling.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I don't know what.
<v Speaker 2>To look into that see if it's even possible. I
<v Speaker 2>don't know if they allow that on the internet, FCC
<v Speaker 2>rules and all that.
<v Speaker 1>Uh.
<v Speaker 2>We do by Dan in my basement. He stayed here
<v Speaker 2>all weekend. That was actually it was nice. He was
<v Speaker 2>a good guest. He mostly. I'll say two things. Apparently,
<v Speaker 2>while I was doing something Mike and Dan I had
<v Speaker 2>had like measured their heads and like had Steph like
<v Speaker 2>way in on it. And She's like, what is this
<v Speaker 2>what you guys do? And I'm like, yeah, pretty much,
<v Speaker 2>this is pretty much what we do. And then she
<v Speaker 2>saw Mike's toothbrush in the bathroom. She's like, what is
<v Speaker 2>wrong with that thing? It is so beaten up. It's
<v Speaker 2>like so, I'm like, yeah, I.
<v Speaker 1>Think he said that. I don't think he's ever replaced it.
<v Speaker 1>I'm gonna have to buy him a new toothbrush.
<v Speaker 3>Is the head measuring thing? How Dan got's on your
<v Speaker 3>atari hat.
<v Speaker 2>Listen, we don't talk about how he got chiari hat.
<v Speaker 2>Uh That that was a Papa John Ranch cup that
<v Speaker 2>just exploded when he opened it. Now, that's what Dan said.
<v Speaker 2>Mike says, No, Dan just did a bad job. He
<v Speaker 2>just did a bad job. And that's what happened there.
<v Speaker 1>I was up there.
<v Speaker 2>Skidding paper plates, I think, and I came back down
<v Speaker 2>and my Atari speaker hat was defiled.
<v Speaker 3>It was yeah, Chad, if you haven't seen that picture
<v Speaker 3>from I think it was Mike who posted on Twitter.
<v Speaker 3>It's just like a no context. Yeah, Dan got some stuff.
<v Speaker 3>I'm Jeff's hat.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, it's like I should saying, hey, do a thorough
<v Speaker 2>and examination. Dan could have left something. Yeah, I think
<v Speaker 2>he was mostly trying to be a good guess because
<v Speaker 2>like he knows like steffs here and stuff like that.
<v Speaker 2>You didn't want to like overstep any bounds like that way.
<v Speaker 2>We did try a couple things with Mike. He bought
<v Speaker 2>like a pile of really crappy DVDs for a dollar each,
<v Speaker 2>and when we went to the exchange, and so I
<v Speaker 2>got the Duck Dynasty, the Duck Dynasty, I was one
<v Speaker 2>of them, Yes exactly. We were gonna sneak those into
<v Speaker 2>his car, but we didn't take his car so instance
<v Speaker 2>that we had to hand it to him, and then
<v Speaker 2>we did. We did talk briefly. It's like it's kind
<v Speaker 2>of far away. Maybe we could talk about going over
<v Speaker 2>to Mike's house and leaving UH with the smell of
<v Speaker 2>vision the game scent.
<v Speaker 1>UH in his house.
<v Speaker 2>But we haven't made that happen yet, but we're getting
<v Speaker 2>closer plans for We also did pick Mike's Blake club games,
<v Speaker 2>So if I if I beat a Dai Katana this week,
<v Speaker 2>we will very quickly hop into that pretty soon.
<v Speaker 1>Maybe not right away.
<v Speaker 2>We might do a Delight club in between real quick,
<v Speaker 2>just to have a little bit of a buffer depending
<v Speaker 2>on when things arrive for Mike.
<v Speaker 3>But you think they deserve that job.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah? Wait, what the hell? Wait?
<v Speaker 3>Did I plug the did you? You fool? You absolute fool.
<v Speaker 3>You needed to put that in the garage. You need
<v Speaker 3>to bury it, You need to exercise it roub your house.
<v Speaker 1>Why, I was like, did I plug it in? Oh wait,
<v Speaker 1>maybe some of us here I plugged in game?
<v Speaker 3>Said ed, Yes, that was gonna be my question. When
<v Speaker 3>you talked about It's like, are you sure he didn't
<v Speaker 3>like mess with the game?
<v Speaker 2>Second, it's right there, Hey, they're all going on, Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>good morning, Dan. Absolutely, I don't know how that didn't
<v Speaker 2>even occur to me. There went again, it didn't even
<v Speaker 2>occur to me that that would happen. All right, well, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I'm gonna go get a fucking gun and shoot this thing.
<v Speaker 2>We should explain what we do here most weekdays, I,
<v Speaker 2>Jeff Grubb, will help piece your gaming life back together
<v Speaker 2>while just completely basking incense that includes breaking news and
<v Speaker 2>maybe even some of our own original reporting.
<v Speaker 1>For all these topics, I'll get.
<v Speaker 2>The input of a bona fide expert who will make
<v Speaker 2>me look smart. If you were watching live on Twitch Welcome,
<v Speaker 2>you could always listen to the show later on podcast
<v Speaker 2>feeds by searching for Game Mess Mornings, or find the
<v Speaker 2>RSS on giant bomb dot com. You can also catch
<v Speaker 2>the show later with chapters and timestamps on YouTube.
<v Speaker 1>Hello YouTube.
<v Speaker 2>All right, we have plenty to get into, so let's
<v Speaker 2>start the Morning Mess with quick catch up from last week.
<v Speaker 2>I was out on Friday, like a lot happened. There
<v Speaker 2>was the Sircana report, and there was a Nintendo's earnings.
<v Speaker 2>Just a quick like touch in on those things.
<v Speaker 1>I looked.
<v Speaker 2>I glanced at the Circana report. Hardware sales kind of
<v Speaker 2>down the way they have been, where we're like down
<v Speaker 2>thirty seven percent overall. Mostly that's the switch but all
<v Speaker 2>three systems once again are down year over year in
<v Speaker 2>the United States, with actually the PlayStation five being the
<v Speaker 2>second most.
<v Speaker 1>And then I think the Xbox.
<v Speaker 2>Was down like eighteen percent or something like that. But
<v Speaker 2>and then elder Ring topped the software charts and then
<v Speaker 2>like something like Luigi's Mansion two HD was like number
<v Speaker 2>eight on there or something like that. This is a
<v Speaker 2>slightly delayed Circana report, so this I think these results
<v Speaker 2>are mostly from June in a little bit of early July,
<v Speaker 2>so it doesn't have stuff like college football in there
<v Speaker 2>or anything like that.
<v Speaker 1>I was like, Okay, we should kind of expect things
<v Speaker 1>to really pick up here.
<v Speaker 2>But now the like with the report of like, hey,
<v Speaker 2>the stock market is kind of collapsing a little bit
<v Speaker 2>right now, down in a big way across the board.
<v Speaker 2>People could get spooked and stop spending as much money
<v Speaker 2>on games once again. So I don't know, kind of
<v Speaker 2>coming out of June into July and then into August,
<v Speaker 2>and now we're at a point where it's like Madden's
<v Speaker 2>going to be here, a bunch of games are going
<v Speaker 2>to start coming out. There's no guarantee that suddenly things
<v Speaker 2>are going to be great across the board.
<v Speaker 3>Well, with hardware specifically, I was actually going to say
<v Speaker 3>that we are approaching. We're not necessarily there with the
<v Speaker 3>switch especially, we are rapidly approaching, but we're approaching the
<v Speaker 3>point of saturation with all those systems. Yes, And I
<v Speaker 3>think even we've talked about this on this show before
<v Speaker 3>of just you can only sell so many consoles, you know,
<v Speaker 3>and so just you know, it tapers off over time.
<v Speaker 3>And if if Dan is having some fun over there, oh.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah he is.
<v Speaker 2>And also the ghost of Jason Fonelli is back as well.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, so.
<v Speaker 1>We're getting from all sides over here, right, Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>So anyways, yeah, leading into the switch too, and then
<v Speaker 3>you know, we still got the rumor it's a PS
<v Speaker 3>five pro coming up here. Yeah, it makes sense for
<v Speaker 3>hardware if you don't least yeah exactly.
<v Speaker 2>I think what happens, or what is happening a little
<v Speaker 2>bit is, you know, traditionally for a console generation, I
<v Speaker 2>think the expectation for this point is, no, they should
<v Speaker 2>still be growing, they should still be selling faster. But
<v Speaker 2>I think we're not taking into account that these things
<v Speaker 2>launched in twenty twenty and they had three years of
<v Speaker 2>people spending more on games than they normally would have
<v Speaker 2>people rushing out to get consoles a little bit quicker
<v Speaker 2>than they would have. So it just feels like it
<v Speaker 2>might be like if you average it out the same
<v Speaker 2>bell curve, but it might have just shifted a little
<v Speaker 2>bit earlier into the generation.
<v Speaker 1>Is kind of the sense I'm getting.
<v Speaker 2>And you know, this could also just be a hiccup
<v Speaker 2>in that bell curve where once we do get to
<v Speaker 2>next year and we do get the stuff like GTA six,
<v Speaker 2>people are like, Okay.
<v Speaker 1>I'm back in, I'm spending money on games.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, that's probably gonna be the one. And it's not
<v Speaker 3>just because, you know, because it's GTA. It's to know
<v Speaker 3>what all that means for the people who are still
<v Speaker 3>playing GT online on their PS four. You know, we
<v Speaker 3>what was the note we got some number recently that
<v Speaker 3>you report on whether.
<v Speaker 2>Like the majority of people apparently or close to it,
<v Speaker 2>are still playing ute GT online on PS four.
<v Speaker 3>Still, yes, And that's still the case with all these
<v Speaker 3>last errors games, you know, Fortnite, Call of Duty, all
<v Speaker 3>these big games. People are still just playing them on
<v Speaker 3>the hardware. That just works because if that's all you're playing,
<v Speaker 3>you don't spend five hundred dollars to upgrade to a
<v Speaker 3>new system that will basically just enhance your load times.
<v Speaker 1>Yep.
<v Speaker 3>Because for those people, they might even still be playing
<v Speaker 3>a ten APTV for all we know, Like yep, so
<v Speaker 3>it hasn't been worth it for them to upgrade. But yeah,
<v Speaker 3>GT SEX is gonna be the one that gets those
<v Speaker 3>people in the door with these new consoles, so they'll
<v Speaker 3>probably see a bump there as well.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I think I mentioned that on one of these shows,
<v Speaker 1>might have been on one of ours on game mess
<v Speaker 1>or something like that. But it's like, yeah, people when
<v Speaker 1>they see a new console, what they they want new games.
<v Speaker 2>They're not going to buy new hardware for the same
<v Speaker 2>game running better than is and not how them how
<v Speaker 2>the vast majority of normal gamers operate. They expect there
<v Speaker 2>to be like new games you can't get anywhere else
<v Speaker 2>and h and when they're happy with the game they're playing.
<v Speaker 2>That's going to make it even harder to sort of
<v Speaker 2>make that argument.
<v Speaker 3>But or even with new games, someone just mentioned in
<v Speaker 3>chat about Black Ops six something happened with that over
<v Speaker 3>the weekend, and hey, that's gonna be on PS four.
<v Speaker 2>Yep, that's exactly. Yeah, it's still going to be on
<v Speaker 2>PS four. War Zone is still on PS four.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, so if you can keep selling millions and millions
<v Speaker 3>of copies on those systems, that's, uh, you know why
<v Speaker 3>why you keep them wrong?
<v Speaker 2>And it feels like Call of Duty is kind of
<v Speaker 2>even waiting for Grand Theft Auto for that same brace.
<v Speaker 2>They're like, yeah, once a game like that comes out
<v Speaker 2>and everyone does upgrade, then yeah, we'll make a game
<v Speaker 2>that's just on these new systems. But we're looking at
<v Speaker 2>the numbers and we know that we can't do that
<v Speaker 2>to just this massive behemoth exactly. And then like, there
<v Speaker 2>are other games doing that. College football was actually surprisingly
<v Speaker 2>one of them. It got a lot of people who
<v Speaker 2>were on the sidelines anecdotally, I guess, but but you know,
<v Speaker 2>I hear this it frequently is I've got a couple
<v Speaker 2>of friends.
<v Speaker 1>We're saying, what do I need to play this game?
<v Speaker 1>And they went out and got an Xbox, they got
<v Speaker 1>a PS five.
<v Speaker 2>So there are gonna be other games like that, but
<v Speaker 2>Grand Theft Auto six will be orders of magnitude bigger,
<v Speaker 2>and then it's no missed earnings. It was not too surprising.
<v Speaker 2>Now A big part of like missing earnings versus like
<v Speaker 2>being down year over yere two different things. There was
<v Speaker 2>a certain level of a pace of sales that Nintendo
<v Speaker 2>told inmesters that they should expect.
<v Speaker 1>They didn't hit those, but also they.
<v Speaker 2>Were down year over year because the year previous had
<v Speaker 2>Zelda and the Mario movie and that stuff was generating
<v Speaker 2>a lot of revenue for Nintendo.
<v Speaker 1>So they're also down year over year.
<v Speaker 2>But I think the kind of like more pointed issue
<v Speaker 2>is that it doesn't seem like they're necessarily going to
<v Speaker 2>hit their targets for selling as many switch hardware units
<v Speaker 2>as they said they were going to. And I think
<v Speaker 2>people were like from the beginning, You're like, well, they're
<v Speaker 2>going to have to either have some games that we
<v Speaker 2>don't know about, and now it feels like we mostly
<v Speaker 2>do know about the games. And I think you and
<v Speaker 2>I both don't think they're necessarily Metrocrime for even if
<v Speaker 2>we were to come out in early twenty twenty five,
<v Speaker 2>be part of that this fiscal year somehow that that
<v Speaker 2>would be the thing that is going to get them
<v Speaker 2>over the top. Probably not. So what's left for them
<v Speaker 2>to do? I mean price cuts? I'm like, I'm still
<v Speaker 2>split on that.
<v Speaker 1>What do you think.
<v Speaker 3>I really don't know, because I'm curious how much of
<v Speaker 3>what we know about Nintendo leaks out into the more
<v Speaker 3>mainstream audience, because we know at this point you don't
<v Speaker 3>buy switch hardware because something new is on the horizon,
<v Speaker 3>and so that's why you know, people like us, And
<v Speaker 3>I was trying to remind the audience like, hey, if
<v Speaker 3>you're listening to this right now, you're not the person
<v Speaker 3>I'm talking about here. Just really reminded me clearly, But like, yeah,
<v Speaker 3>I'm curious, like how many of those people, you know,
<v Speaker 3>the normy friends we all have, are aware that this
<v Speaker 3>new console is coming, and so they don't buy that
<v Speaker 3>switch light for their kids or whatever their second console
<v Speaker 3>or whatever. When it comes to software, on the other hand,
<v Speaker 3>I don't know. It's just you know, we're hitting the
<v Speaker 3>end of the switch's lifespan, so we only have so
<v Speaker 3>many games left in the tank. They only have so
<v Speaker 3>many games. Let it take there's a lot of juice
<v Speaker 3>left in the tank over there at the game set. Yeah, standing, sorry,
<v Speaker 3>I stop because I've never seen you make that face
<v Speaker 3>beat because it's terrifying.
<v Speaker 2>It used to be like he could do like one
<v Speaker 2>and then you have to wait for a little bit.
<v Speaker 2>All of them are going off.
<v Speaker 1>Back to back. He fixed instantly. I don't.
<v Speaker 2>He apparently says they removed the cool down on the
<v Speaker 2>game set.
<v Speaker 3>This is my god. Who did he talk to?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah? He sooned up.
<v Speaker 2>I need to talk to the manager. Uh yeah, this
<v Speaker 2>is terrifying, Dan. It is not stopping. It is just
<v Speaker 2>going off consistently. Every single one is like spout it
<v Speaker 2>like they're not all all six going off at the
<v Speaker 2>same time, but they were going off back to back
<v Speaker 2>without missing a beat.
<v Speaker 3>The audience can't see it. There's a bottle of prime
<v Speaker 3>just outside of frame, and I'm wondering now if that's
<v Speaker 3>yours or if that's his calling card.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know anymore, but anyways, Yeah.
<v Speaker 3>It's only so much left to the switch, so it
<v Speaker 3>makes sense that you know.
<v Speaker 2>I'm the frame and put it right in my faith, Dan,
<v Speaker 2>I'm about to unplug it, like I'll I'm this close.
<v Speaker 1>We'll see you better playing.
<v Speaker 3>With Maybe you should you ever thought about the unplugging it.
<v Speaker 1>It's kind of incredible now watching it just go off
<v Speaker 1>without stopping. I'm kind of right.
<v Speaker 2>I feel like there was some other stuff I missed
<v Speaker 2>on Friday, but those are the big things.
<v Speaker 1>I don't know anything else stick out.
<v Speaker 3>The games media news kind of on Friday.
<v Speaker 2>Of course, Yes, Game Informer closed down just out of nowhere,
<v Speaker 2>devastating stuff. Yeah, AI wrote that goodbye message clearly just
<v Speaker 2>non stop or shit, game stop being shitty as hell,
<v Speaker 2>big surprise.
<v Speaker 3>With bad company. Yeah, just a bad.
<v Speaker 1>Company doing bad stuff.
<v Speaker 2>It's really frustrating, especially because I did just subscribe when
<v Speaker 2>they opened up subscriptions the first time, and it's like,
<v Speaker 2>clear game stops not even looking at that stuff they
<v Speaker 2>But at the same time, it's like, I think they
<v Speaker 2>made enough money from that last like jump in their
<v Speaker 2>sales or their stock price when they sold a bunch
<v Speaker 2>of shares to pay for Game Informer to run for
<v Speaker 2>the rest of time. So it's very frustrating. It's like, well, no,
<v Speaker 2>we need to use that to shore up this failing business.
<v Speaker 2>In every other way, it's like, man, you have one
<v Speaker 2>thing that people feel good about Game Informer, this one
<v Speaker 2>thing that's like here's a magazine that's still going in
<v Speaker 2>the United States, and just got to kick a bunch
<v Speaker 2>of awesome people out on the street, and they were
<v Speaker 2>they are awesome people. I really liked everyone from Game Informed.
<v Speaker 2>We would always have them over GB at night. I
<v Speaker 2>interact with them all the time on Twitter because I
<v Speaker 2>really like them a lot. I hope they're all able
<v Speaker 2>to stay in the industry because I think it's better
<v Speaker 2>with them.
<v Speaker 1>It sucks.
<v Speaker 3>They're all very talented people. Yes, if anyone missed it,
<v Speaker 3>cass the BombCast revengece that we did on Friday because
<v Speaker 3>me and Jan since everyone else was out.
<v Speaker 2>All right, it's unplugged, Okay, this this room is more
<v Speaker 2>game sent now than oxygen.
<v Speaker 1>So if I pass out, sorry, Oh we know why.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah. The revengeance that me and Jack I can't imagine
<v Speaker 3>why is smart. Yeah, the revengeance we did on Friday.
<v Speaker 3>Me and Jan talked all about this, just me and
<v Speaker 3>him because everyone else was out. We had nice little
<v Speaker 3>one on one conversation. It was a delightful little time
<v Speaker 3>where we talked about this and just how much gaming
<v Speaker 3>magazines meant to us coming from you know, similar backgrounds
<v Speaker 3>where that's maybe sometimes all you had. I definitely recommend
<v Speaker 3>that people go listen to that. It was a fun time.
<v Speaker 1>I'm glad you were able to do that. That was really nice.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, it was nice. Also, I just saw this here
<v Speaker 3>at some point in chat that apparently a little big.
<v Speaker 3>The Game Informer's staff put out their own goodbye on
<v Speaker 3>the Twitter account, so good.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, they can't put it on the website because Game Stop.
<v Speaker 1>Immediately shut that down and turn it into a landing
<v Speaker 1>page instead.
<v Speaker 3>Just I was gonna say, if in lots of things
<v Speaker 3>have changed, you need to manually reach out the games
<v Speaker 3>top for a refund, boy, if you have an ongoing
<v Speaker 3>subscription by way, which is all kinds of fucked. They
<v Speaker 3>should just automate that.
<v Speaker 2>But that is that feels like they don't care about
<v Speaker 2>like getting in trouble even because that feels like something
<v Speaker 2>where a lot of people could you could get like
<v Speaker 2>sued for something like that. That feels like I just
<v Speaker 2>don't care because it's a really shitty company.
<v Speaker 1>Game Stop.
<v Speaker 2>All right, let's get into some of these headlines then here,
<v Speaker 2>let's start here. About has been delayed until early twenty
<v Speaker 2>twenty five. This is from Chris Scullion at VGC. Microsoft
<v Speaker 2>has announced that the Xbox console exclusive About has been
<v Speaker 2>delayed until early next year, although an official release date
<v Speaker 2>had yet to be confirmed. Xbox had planned a twenty
<v Speaker 2>twenty four release for the game, With a blog post
<v Speaker 2>by developer Obsidian, seemingly accidentally confirming and November twelfth release
<v Speaker 2>before it was removed. However, a message posted by the
<v Speaker 2>official Xbox account on Twitter has confirmed that the game
<v Speaker 2>will now release on February eighteenth, twenty twenty five, accompanied
<v Speaker 2>with an image showing that the upcoming first party Xbox games.
<v Speaker 2>The message read, so many games coming as such, we're
<v Speaker 2>moving about to February eighteenth, twenty twenty five to get
<v Speaker 2>players backlogs, some breathing room. There's more of the message,
<v Speaker 2>but let's stop there, kind of talk about a little bit. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I mean, listen to I think the Fall was getting
<v Speaker 2>a little bit crowded, but I wouldn't assume that, like
<v Speaker 2>February is going to be some easy going time for
<v Speaker 2>some games. So the game probably needed more time, right,
<v Speaker 2>that's what's really happening here.
<v Speaker 3>Almost certainly probably, Yeah, I mean, granted, it does seem
<v Speaker 3>like it's gonna be a busy fall, so I wouldn't
<v Speaker 3>be surprised if that truly did play a factor into everything.
<v Speaker 3>Of them saying, look, we're launching a new ip into
<v Speaker 3>this fall. Maybe, yeah, maybe we do give a little
<v Speaker 3>room to breeze. Since the beginning of the years. Tends
<v Speaker 3>to be a better time for that right now. I
<v Speaker 3>was just looking. I was like, okay, cool, Mike has
<v Speaker 3>a vout and Fantasy cricks, so get fucked.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, let's go.
<v Speaker 3>That's another thing that we did on Friday. It was
<v Speaker 3>we checked in on Fancy creiks. I have all this.
<v Speaker 2>Uh on my mind right yeah, I'm like I planned
<v Speaker 2>to listen to because I want to see how things
<v Speaker 2>are going and hear what you hear your guys's insights
<v Speaker 2>into it.
<v Speaker 3>Oh yeah, that that was a fun time too.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. Good.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, Well we gotta get a got to remind Bacalar
<v Speaker 2>and Lucy to check in on that so they don't
<v Speaker 2>get completely creamed.
<v Speaker 3>Oh and well, Baklar has been making moves. He got
<v Speaker 3>thank goodness for your hair. Yeah, he beat me and
<v Speaker 3>jan I got like.
<v Speaker 1>Eighteen points off of that or something like that. Man,
<v Speaker 1>not bad, all right. Well yeah, as for avowed, I
<v Speaker 1>don't know.
<v Speaker 2>This is one where I'm like, I was never quite
<v Speaker 2>as concerned as some people seem to be, and I
<v Speaker 2>was never as high as like, I know, Mike's like,
<v Speaker 2>I think it's pretty good, and I'm like, I'm not
<v Speaker 2>sure yet. It's not like I think it's gonna be
<v Speaker 2>one or the other. I'm just like trying to get
<v Speaker 2>gauge something from the trailers, and this is one. Like
<v Speaker 2>a lot of games, Sean, this is one I'm like,
<v Speaker 2>I don't think I need to play it before I
<v Speaker 2>really know anything, which, of course that's how it works
<v Speaker 2>ninety five percent of the time. But sometimes so I
<v Speaker 2>got that game just looks amazing and I no'minal love it.
<v Speaker 2>Avoud was not one of those, but I didn't necessarily
<v Speaker 2>think it was a fire waiting, you know, to start,
<v Speaker 2>or something like that.
<v Speaker 1>But Xbox is kind of in.
<v Speaker 2>A situation where I feel like they need to get
<v Speaker 2>these games from you know, maybe low eighties to mid
<v Speaker 2>eighties on that metacritic if you can have a couple
<v Speaker 2>that are like eighty six eighty seven instead of like,
<v Speaker 2>you know, seventy nine to eighty three.
<v Speaker 1>Now, what do those numbers really mean? Whatever?
<v Speaker 2>People know what we're trying to get at when we
<v Speaker 2>say that kind of thing. They need that they and
<v Speaker 2>they want to get a couple like a string of hits,
<v Speaker 2>a string of successful games to justify the console game pass.
<v Speaker 2>People caring about what Xbox says about other games going forward.
<v Speaker 2>It all comes down to delivering the games at this point.
<v Speaker 2>And if Avout's close, you should be. I mean, I
<v Speaker 2>think what happened with like help by two is they're like,
<v Speaker 2>this game is not like close to being the thing
<v Speaker 2>for everybody, so let's put it out admit what it is.
<v Speaker 2>This is fine, But they have.
<v Speaker 3>Realized while they were building the plane maybe like they
<v Speaker 3>weirdly sort of misunderstood what that game was. I think
<v Speaker 3>all of us who played the original new what would
<v Speaker 3>be and they were just like, oh, you know, it's
<v Speaker 3>it's a beautiful game. Therefore we can push it as
<v Speaker 3>this type of game, And then they really quickly had
<v Speaker 3>to be oh no, no, it's not that kind of game.
<v Speaker 3>Shoot right then, Yeah, something like about has a better
<v Speaker 3>chance of doing that exactly.
<v Speaker 1>So I hope this turns into that.
<v Speaker 2>And at the same time, Yeah, there are a lot
<v Speaker 2>of games coming up this fall, and it is.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, like, just give stuff room to breathe if that
<v Speaker 3>means better polish. That's what every game needs right now,
<v Speaker 3>because these games are so big and so hard to
<v Speaker 3>make that yeah, anytime they can get Uh, the Pokemon
<v Speaker 3>World Championships are coming up here, and so some people
<v Speaker 3>are like, are we gonna get Legends Za news because
<v Speaker 3>they haven't been talking about ZA at all, and normally
<v Speaker 3>by this time in the cycle they.
<v Speaker 1>Want to talk about it.
<v Speaker 3>Uh, it's just twenty twenty five, Okay, Yeah, we're assuming
<v Speaker 3>it's early because that's when Archaios came that house.
<v Speaker 2>But that come again, we were talking about Nintendo in
<v Speaker 2>that first little catchup segment. If that comes out in
<v Speaker 2>the first quarter and that's part of this fiscal year,
<v Speaker 2>that could that would still help because Pokemon I'm like,
<v Speaker 2>I was thinking, like, no Pokemon, but maybe that could help.
<v Speaker 3>But but yeah, they're going to polish that, so that'll be money.
<v Speaker 3>But what I was getting at there is that there's
<v Speaker 3>like discourse over all, we haven't heard anything about it,
<v Speaker 3>and it took someone saying, y'all think about it. The
<v Speaker 3>Pokemon Company game freak going radio silent on a game
<v Speaker 3>is the best possible thing for this franchise right now.
<v Speaker 3>Did you see scarletand Violet? So yeah, that's what for
<v Speaker 3>I'm sort of getting at here with the stay of
<v Speaker 3>the industry right now is just that every game could
<v Speaker 3>use a little more time, a little more polish and
<v Speaker 3>if your reasoning is, we're just not going to send
<v Speaker 3>out to die. We're not going to have a Titan
<v Speaker 3>Fall two situation. Then yeah, let's do that. Let's get
<v Speaker 3>some debrias and get some polish in there too.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, that sounds just right to me.
<v Speaker 2>Nikki, who's also in the league, was wondering what the
<v Speaker 2>rules are on dropping games, and they asked if we
<v Speaker 2>could turn on dropping games. We have that to a
<v Speaker 2>certain extent, but it's.
<v Speaker 3>Like, oh no, no, no, it's it's if your game
<v Speaker 3>will not come out right now? Yes, right, yeah, so Nikki,
<v Speaker 3>you're stuck a lot of those games. But yeah, there's
<v Speaker 3>there's an option in there somewhere for your drop a
<v Speaker 3>za I believe, yes, yes, yea.
<v Speaker 1>Y get rid of uh okay, let's see here.
<v Speaker 2>Sega trademarks Yakuza Wars Yakuzu Wars in Japan.
<v Speaker 1>This is from sal Ramono Gamatsu who spotted this.
<v Speaker 2>Sega filed a trademark for Yakuzu Wars on July twenty
<v Speaker 2>sixth in Japan, which was made public.
<v Speaker 1>Today and that was probably yesterday. Well.
<v Speaker 2>Sega has yet to announce a game with this title
<v Speaker 2>or subtitle. It could be related to the upcoming like
<v Speaker 2>a Dragon game. They like a Dragon series was previously
<v Speaker 2>known as Yakuz in the West. Also, I can't remember
<v Speaker 2>where it was Sean now, but they were talking. Maybe
<v Speaker 2>it was China Enjoy even I don't know. The team
<v Speaker 2>was talking, say, hey, we have something coming up, and
<v Speaker 2>it's not what you expect.
<v Speaker 1>Well, I was not expecting, right.
<v Speaker 2>Maybe a I'm assuming based on this title, a strategy
<v Speaker 2>RPG tiles based tactical game.
<v Speaker 1>I was not expecting that. And now that I have
<v Speaker 1>it in my.
<v Speaker 2>Head, God, I hope this is exactly that, and it's
<v Speaker 2>everything I want, because that sounds.
<v Speaker 1>Like a really good idea.
<v Speaker 2>I love like just positioning pieces on a board and
<v Speaker 2>having that stuff matter, and I think that this franchise
<v Speaker 2>has enough enough silliness to like make that really fun.
<v Speaker 2>Now my question, do you think it would be you
<v Speaker 2>You play like a Dragon, right, and you played Infinite Wealth?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah?
<v Speaker 3>Right, yeah, I played both of them fish either.
<v Speaker 1>In Infinite Wealth and and Yakuza. They have like the
<v Speaker 1>Pokemon battles, they'll creep battles and stuff like that.
<v Speaker 2>I think there's a chance, maybe, yes, there's a chance
<v Speaker 2>maybe this is that, but I kind of hope it,
<v Speaker 2>like actually just deals with the characters and tells us
<v Speaker 2>strategy RPG story with them or something like that. But
<v Speaker 2>right now we don't really know at all what this is,
<v Speaker 2>and who knows when we'll find out. I guess there's
<v Speaker 2>probably a chance Tokyo Game show stuff like that is
<v Speaker 2>happening soon. Do you think we'll probably hear about it there?
<v Speaker 1>I don't know.
<v Speaker 3>I'm kind of curious what the whole project is in general.
<v Speaker 3>I think that would dictate when they choose to show it.
<v Speaker 3>I mean, frankly, what you know I'm looking forward to
<v Speaker 3>is Iachi Bankaska Soccer I'm a Mia meet Soccer Awards
<v Speaker 3>cross that's like a dragon.
<v Speaker 1>Okay, that would be incredible. Yeah, sure, I just do
<v Speaker 1>stupid crossover Sega.
<v Speaker 3>That's what we want to see.
<v Speaker 2>Soccer Awars, that's the you guys all like that because
<v Speaker 2>the story or because the tactics are fun.
<v Speaker 1>Yes, Eliah, okay, I'll play.
<v Speaker 3>It's fire Emblem. You know you like fire Arm.
<v Speaker 2>I do know, and I've I've been meaning to play
<v Speaker 2>just because everyone I've ever talked to about that game
<v Speaker 2>seems to really like it.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah. Probably, Yeah, probably some kind of strategy game this year,
<v Speaker 3>like a Dragon has gotten weird enough. You know, they
<v Speaker 3>completely changed the genre of the series midway through, so like, yeah,
<v Speaker 3>I would.
<v Speaker 1>Not be surprised that they branched onto strategy in some way.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, And I think that this is a good sort
<v Speaker 2>of between game they've had. This is a series that's
<v Speaker 2>long had a lot of in between games between the
<v Speaker 2>main entries, and some have been successful like these. The
<v Speaker 2>side stories are the ones where like, let's take these
<v Speaker 2>characters and put them in ancient Japan, and there's one
<v Speaker 2>right here and now these guys are dealing with zombies,
<v Speaker 2>and that one was less successful. I think that what
<v Speaker 2>they could do is going through these other genres, maybe
<v Speaker 2>make these things even like a little bit smaller in scope,
<v Speaker 2>but you can change up the genre even more so
<v Speaker 2>it feels even further afield and feels even more special
<v Speaker 2>because of that. This feels like a good idea to me,
<v Speaker 2>So I hope it is all the things we're talking about.
<v Speaker 2>But either way, I'm kind of trusting this team right now.
<v Speaker 2>They're firing on all cylinders and delivering games at a
<v Speaker 2>rapid pace. Definitely, all right, there was a five minute
<v Speaker 2>legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom trailers that shows new
<v Speaker 2>locations and abilities.
<v Speaker 1>This is from Chris going at VGC. Shout out to
<v Speaker 1>Chris a lot of stories from him.
<v Speaker 2>Today, Nintendo has released a new trailer for the Legend
<v Speaker 2>of Zelda, Echoes of Wisdom. The trailer opens by showing
<v Speaker 2>some of the game's locations, including Gurrido Desert, Jabble Waters,
<v Speaker 2>Elden Volcano, and fair and wetlands, and it then shows
<v Speaker 2>off the game's adventure log and how the main and
<v Speaker 2>side quests are saved to it as they're encountered. Other
<v Speaker 2>features shown in the trailer include quick travel waypoints, and.
<v Speaker 1>The ability to ride a very cute horse.
<v Speaker 2>The trailer also introduces smoothie shops, which are run by
<v Speaker 2>business scrubs and that's not me this time. Zelda can
<v Speaker 2>use these to blend collected ingredients into drinks that that
<v Speaker 2>have different effects. Zelda can also equip different outfits and
<v Speaker 2>accessories to change your abilities. These changes are also reflected
<v Speaker 2>in Zelda's on screen appearance. They also showed off like
<v Speaker 2>new abilities like bind where you can connect yourself to
<v Speaker 2>like a giant boulder and move it, and then there's
<v Speaker 2>reverse bound or something like that, something like reverse bond
<v Speaker 2>where you can connect yourself to like a creature and
<v Speaker 2>instead of you moving it, it moves you. And so
<v Speaker 2>there's a bird flying around, you connect yourself to that
<v Speaker 2>and the bird will like take you to place you
<v Speaker 2>couldn't otherwise get to.
<v Speaker 1>Things like that.
<v Speaker 2>So just more layers on top of the puzzle solving
<v Speaker 2>than just using the wand to copy objects in the
<v Speaker 2>world and you and use those. Some of these objects
<v Speaker 2>you won't be able to copy, and instead maybe you
<v Speaker 2>need to use one of these features on. It just
<v Speaker 2>sounds like, okay, a lot of possibility for very cool puzzles.
<v Speaker 2>So I'm excited about this. It looks pretty promising.
<v Speaker 3>You. Yeah, I'm I'm scrubbing through the trailer here because
<v Speaker 3>I didn't catch this way and went live. First of all,
<v Speaker 3>this game looks gorgeous.
<v Speaker 2>I think, really, Nail, I think Grez was doing a
<v Speaker 2>very good job. It's exactly kind of what I want
<v Speaker 2>from it.
<v Speaker 3>I because this is just the links Awakening art style,
<v Speaker 3>and I did not like that applied to links Awakening
<v Speaker 3>because you know, there's that dissonance in my head of like,
<v Speaker 3>I know what links Awakening is supposed to look like.
<v Speaker 3>I have for the past thirty years longer than I've
<v Speaker 3>been alive, that game has been out, and I know
<v Speaker 3>how I expect that game to look, and so having
<v Speaker 3>that toy like art style didn't really do it for me.
<v Speaker 3>But this game being made from the ground up, man,
<v Speaker 3>that our style looks so good in everything I'm seeing
<v Speaker 3>right now. But yeah, all the new abilities that they're revealing,
<v Speaker 3>that's good because that's what a Zelda game is is
<v Speaker 3>using all these different powers, these different abilities to solve
<v Speaker 3>puzzles in unique and interesting ways. We thought that, you know,
<v Speaker 3>just the the item duplication would be enough to represent
<v Speaker 3>all the different things he can do in Zelda. But
<v Speaker 3>seeing that there's you know, almost like modern Zelda physics
<v Speaker 3>e sort of stuff going on too, that's really cool.
<v Speaker 2>Yep, it's it's just like there's a lot happening in
<v Speaker 2>the game, and I am very very excited. Yeah, Dan Record,
<v Speaker 2>who was famously trold me about links Awake, and he
<v Speaker 2>did say it's it's one of the best game Boy games.
<v Speaker 1>He gave me that now he hates the game Boy,
<v Speaker 1>so I needed.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, it's one of it's one of the greatest games
<v Speaker 3>that are made.
<v Speaker 1>It absolutely is.
<v Speaker 3>It's Oh what did, He's I was listening to fire
<v Speaker 3>Escape and he said something that was just bonkers. It
<v Speaker 3>was another like it was an our Hollow Nights situation,
<v Speaker 3>and I got so irrad mad just walking back from
<v Speaker 3>Taco Bell.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, I definitely remember kind of feeling similar about something
<v Speaker 2>recently that he said. But I what can we do
<v Speaker 2>about it at this point?
<v Speaker 3>No, not Kirby, Dan, I'm I'm I'm slightly with you
<v Speaker 3>on Kirby. I don't like Kirby that much. Yeah, I
<v Speaker 3>don't think he's it's bad like he does, but I
<v Speaker 3>just don't like Kirby.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. I got the game. Really, I hope you don't.
<v Speaker 2>Performance Wise, it is like I hope it's better than
<v Speaker 2>Link's Awakening, where that still has a few issues. Seems
<v Speaker 2>like streaming in the world because the game the game
<v Speaker 2>doesn't have the cells like Link's Awakening did. It was
<v Speaker 2>all one stitch together world, and it felt like it
<v Speaker 2>was like getting ready for you to go to this
<v Speaker 2>other part. So it starts streaming it in, then you
<v Speaker 2>get some frame drops. Yeah, they if that's happening. I
<v Speaker 2>don't think we've seen a ton of that in these trailers.
<v Speaker 1>But they also probably would show that so right.
<v Speaker 2>But yeah, God, I can't wait to get back into
<v Speaker 2>this world and play as as Zelda. Actually it's looking
<v Speaker 2>very promising. And this game is out in September. September
<v Speaker 2>twenty six. One say, but maybe that's not right.
<v Speaker 1>Ay, that sounds right. It should be in my calendar
<v Speaker 1>here yet, nail it September twenty six, Okay, doesn't it.
<v Speaker 1>They don't have an August game. I know they we had.
<v Speaker 3>I don't have anything written down, okay, because.
<v Speaker 1>At Mario Party Jamboree is is later? Is that October?
<v Speaker 3>I think so? Yeah? I think I think we noted
<v Speaker 3>that there was one month where they didn't have anything.
<v Speaker 3>That's one point during the year. I think it was
<v Speaker 3>August and they haven't added anything to fill in that gap.
<v Speaker 1>Okay. Well, still looking forward to this game quite a bit.
<v Speaker 1>Can't wait for it, all right.
<v Speaker 2>Bungee layoffs include senior execs Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy.
<v Speaker 2>Is from t Moore husseining at Game Spot Luke Smith
<v Speaker 2>and Mark Noseworthy to senior executives at Bungie. We're both
<v Speaker 2>part of the recent round of layoffs. According to a
<v Speaker 2>new report, Speaking on his game mess to Sides podcast,
<v Speaker 2>Jeff Grubb confirmed that the duo we're working on Payback,
<v Speaker 2>a new game set in the Destiny universe, but we're
<v Speaker 2>let go as part of sweeping job losses at the
<v Speaker 2>NOW PlayStation owned studio. Yeah, Payback was closed a few
<v Speaker 2>weeks back basically, and then they were like, it's pretty
<v Speaker 2>well understood. It seems to me that they were looking
<v Speaker 2>around like there is nothing left for Luke and Mark
<v Speaker 2>to work on. They were that they're you know, job
<v Speaker 2>titles were you know, the executive vice president, creative director
<v Speaker 2>blah blah blah, Comma Payback, and then when that went away,
<v Speaker 2>it's like, well, they're not going to go take the
<v Speaker 2>job back that other people are working on Destiny now.
<v Speaker 1>And it's one of those.
<v Speaker 2>Situations where I think technically they left, but if you
<v Speaker 2>want to say they're fired or even laid off, it's
<v Speaker 2>a kind of all the same thing at a certain
<v Speaker 2>point where it's like, hey, you signed this pack, sign
<v Speaker 2>this this a piece of paper, and you get this
<v Speaker 2>package if you leave and all that stuff, but we
<v Speaker 2>need to get rid of you essentially. So it feels
<v Speaker 2>rough because to a lot of people that follow Destiny,
<v Speaker 2>you know, Luke Smith is the on the like got
<v Speaker 2>got that game to where they wanted it originally or
<v Speaker 2>is a big part of that obviously, And it just
<v Speaker 2>feels wild to think of a future of Destiny without
<v Speaker 2>someone like that, But but yeah, it is. It continues
<v Speaker 2>to be a mess over there. Bungeie hasn't really said much,
<v Speaker 2>Luke Smith hasn't said much. Martin Hosworth, he's not out
<v Speaker 2>there saying much. Now people are wondering, like, what does
<v Speaker 2>Destiny to look like? There is uh uh, you know,
<v Speaker 2>there's some details about that that we talked about on
<v Speaker 2>that show, where it's gonna be smaller content packs, not
<v Speaker 2>not expansion packs anymore, smaller experience packs, I think is
<v Speaker 2>what they're gonna call them, something along those lines.
<v Speaker 1>Two a year.
<v Speaker 2>They won't have the introductory single player like tutorial sequence
<v Speaker 2>that like introduces you to all the new new stuff,
<v Speaker 2>and that's like, you know, the a brunt of the
<v Speaker 2>of the content that had happened before when you were
<v Speaker 2>paying for these things. So it's gonna be smaller things instead.
<v Speaker 2>And then they're also gonna have they're gonna keep having raids,
<v Speaker 2>like they'll still have that and they'll of course they
<v Speaker 2>need that, But I don't know. Destiny two is in
<v Speaker 2>a weird spot and there trying to thread this needle,
<v Speaker 2>and it feels like it's going to be very difficult
<v Speaker 2>to pull off.
<v Speaker 1>Sean, what do you think?
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, I mean when I was on the call with you,
<v Speaker 3>when you broke this news the other night, our other
<v Speaker 3>friend Christian, who was on a call, noted, oh boy,
<v Speaker 3>scaling back Destiny to content, that's what that audience loves.
<v Speaker 1>Yep.
<v Speaker 2>Right, They're just not gonna want to hear that in
<v Speaker 2>any way. And that's that's what makes this so challenging, right,
<v Speaker 2>because they need they think they need to do this
<v Speaker 2>because they got to make Destiny to a more affordable
<v Speaker 2>game to produce on an ongoing way, in an ongoing way,
<v Speaker 2>and at the same time, they got to keep fans
<v Speaker 2>spending money on that stuff. So you got to give
<v Speaker 2>them something that they want. But clearly when they're like,
<v Speaker 2>when they're looking at that spectrum, they are leaning towards
<v Speaker 2>the side of let's save money on how much this
<v Speaker 2>costs to produce. And at the same time, their their
<v Speaker 2>major next project, Marathon is apparently supposed to still come
<v Speaker 2>out next year twenty twenty five, and so they and
<v Speaker 2>they're not working on Destiny three. They had not and
<v Speaker 2>working on Destiny three. They were working on Payback. That's
<v Speaker 2>no longer happening. But so their main things are Destiny two,
<v Speaker 2>the new version of Destiny two going forward with these
<v Speaker 2>experience packs in Frontiers or whatever whatever that's called, and
<v Speaker 2>then Marathon, and basically both of those things have to
<v Speaker 2>hit perfectly before they'll revisit like what the future of
<v Speaker 2>Destiny looks like. And if both those things hit, Destiny
<v Speaker 2>three or follow up or something like that could happen,
<v Speaker 2>but who knows.
<v Speaker 3>Okay, Yeah, I'm trying to keep all this straight because
<v Speaker 3>I'm just very much not in this scene at all.
<v Speaker 3>So I'm trying to like a lot of this news
<v Speaker 3>people are like, oh, yeah, we already knew about this thing.
<v Speaker 3>I'm like, I'm here about this for the first time,
<v Speaker 3>so oh yeah, what what was payback?
<v Speaker 2>So Payback was going to be a the next big
<v Speaker 2>thing for Destiny is how I would describe it, but
<v Speaker 2>not Destiny three. And it's clear now and this is
<v Speaker 2>stuff that I couldn't really talk about, but now that
<v Speaker 2>Jason Tretreiro wrote history, it's a little bit more easy.
<v Speaker 1>To talk about it.
<v Speaker 2>Public publicly, but it is a Genschin impact inspired anything
<v Speaker 2>where it was going to be third person and you're
<v Speaker 2>going to be doing You're going to be doing similar
<v Speaker 2>kind of things, but with characters maybe a little bit
<v Speaker 2>more actiony of things like that. I know, hey, I
<v Speaker 2>made the same face. I don't know, but they were
<v Speaker 2>like this, you know, this was the Luke Smith game, like,
<v Speaker 2>this was the thing he was working on. So clearly
<v Speaker 2>they had big visions of this is going to be
<v Speaker 2>the thing that is going to take Destiny to, maybe
<v Speaker 2>not the next level, but the next step in the
<v Speaker 2>future evolution.
<v Speaker 3>Of it, because as of the final shape, we are
<v Speaker 3>at the end of the promised ten year Destiny plan.
<v Speaker 1>Correct basically, yes, effectively, yes, that is correct.
<v Speaker 3>Okay, Well out in my head, I'm trying to think
<v Speaker 3>of like, did people expect more? Did people expect them
<v Speaker 3>to keep going beyond this?
<v Speaker 2>I think a lot of fans were surprised to hear
<v Speaker 2>that Destiny three was never in development, and then I
<v Speaker 2>think that fans were expecting, listen, if they are going
<v Speaker 2>to stick with Destiny too.
<v Speaker 1>We do expect a certain level to continue to happen.
<v Speaker 1>Maybe not more, but we do.
<v Speaker 2>Expect a certain level of content to keep coming at us.
<v Speaker 2>And what they're hearing is you should expect less, okay.
<v Speaker 3>Because from where I'm sitting, and it's just because this
<v Speaker 3>is in our situation, Like we talked about this more
<v Speaker 3>at being like two plugged in, knowing that this was
<v Speaker 3>the long term plan for Destiny, and now it's you know,
<v Speaker 3>well we're coasting now because that's what we promised, This
<v Speaker 3>was a plan for Destiny. We wrapped it up. You know,
<v Speaker 3>we're moving on to something else here. I mean, I
<v Speaker 3>guess it. Do people like who are just coming to
<v Speaker 3>the game now like seeing as a bit of a
<v Speaker 3>rug pull that like, oh, this Live Stars game is
<v Speaker 3>winding down, and I didn't expect that.
<v Speaker 2>I mean I think that people were like, well, we
<v Speaker 2>know Luke Smith's not working on this anymore, so we're
<v Speaker 2>we expect him to be working on something, probably Destiny three.
<v Speaker 2>So they were definitely everyone who's a Destiny fan was
<v Speaker 2>expecting something to be replacing sort of the like within
<v Speaker 2>the Destiny, I within the Destiny I P At the
<v Speaker 2>very least, I don't know. I don't know how fans
<v Speaker 2>were viewing what was coming next. I don't know if
<v Speaker 2>they were necessarily thinking it would be Destiny three or
<v Speaker 2>something else like this game that is described by you know.
<v Speaker 1>That that payback is. But they were definitely expecting something.
<v Speaker 2>And now it's like, uh, no, you need you better
<v Speaker 2>buy a Marathon because if that doesn't go well, sh
<v Speaker 2>it's going to go real bad.
<v Speaker 3>For yeah, Because to me, Marathon was a sign that
<v Speaker 3>the studio as a whole was looking to hard pivot,
<v Speaker 3>like maybe it was they.
<v Speaker 2>Were not going to have it was not a hard pivot.
<v Speaker 2>It was in addition to it was a thing that
<v Speaker 2>was going to addition to yes, in addition to always yes. Absolutely,
<v Speaker 2>And now it it's it needs to stand us on
<v Speaker 2>its own and be a whole other pillar and it
<v Speaker 2>needed to succeed from the beginning. And now expectations are
<v Speaker 2>even higher, like it needs to do a lot. But
<v Speaker 2>that's where sort of bunch has been since the Sony
<v Speaker 2>acquisition of Boy, Expectations are very high. And all that
<v Speaker 2>is due to as I've heard it, Pete Parson's basically
<v Speaker 2>telling Tails to Sony to inflate the price so he
<v Speaker 2>can get a lot of money at.
<v Speaker 1>It when the thing is sold. Yep.
<v Speaker 2>And it's affected everybody and of course all those layoffs
<v Speaker 2>is we reported last week. It's it's a real mess
<v Speaker 2>open there. Yeah, and there was more details on payback.
<v Speaker 1>Uh this, you know it.
<v Speaker 2>We'll just kind of hit this one real quick, then
<v Speaker 2>we'll go to the next one because it is effectively
<v Speaker 2>what we said that.
<v Speaker 1>It was like kind of we're gonna be against an
<v Speaker 1>impact sort of thing.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, let's see what it would allow players to use
<v Speaker 2>the franchise's characters to explore a large world while cooperating
<v Speaker 2>to battle monsters and soft puzzles that sort of thing.
<v Speaker 3>So, oh yeah, you keep okay, you keep saying Gensen Impact,
<v Speaker 3>and I think this is reasonable for me to think,
<v Speaker 3>like Destiny, waifus, what do you just mean gameplay wise?
<v Speaker 2>Gameplay wise, like like the structure of Gensen Impact, the
<v Speaker 2>structure of these mobile games that are also real, big,
<v Speaker 2>actual games, but that kind of keep you keep people
<v Speaker 2>in there and kind of.
<v Speaker 1>Really can operate.
<v Speaker 2>It's the next I mean, Genshold impacted me. It feels
<v Speaker 2>like the next generation of live service game. After Destiny.
<v Speaker 2>I kind of see though. Yeah, I see what they
<v Speaker 2>are thinking here that we can't get left behind. We
<v Speaker 2>got to get on this ship as well. And we
<v Speaker 2>need to do it as soon as possible.
<v Speaker 1>In fact, maybe we should have the top team working
<v Speaker 1>on that. And that's kind of how it was going.
<v Speaker 3>And I think I think some people don't realize how
<v Speaker 3>big those games have gone. Do you always have the Laundromat?
<v Speaker 3>The other day I saw some dude playing Genschen on
<v Speaker 3>his phone, like like no, Like mainstream people are picking
<v Speaker 3>up these mijoio games and you know, similar games, and
<v Speaker 3>they're they're digging them because, yeah, it's such a low
<v Speaker 3>barrier to entry. It's a game that's odd device you
<v Speaker 3>already have. The quality is at least high enough that
<v Speaker 3>you know it can be your fill in a live
<v Speaker 3>service game. So it's just to me, like, you know,
<v Speaker 3>we joke about it a lot, but the poll of
<v Speaker 3>those games is we have these really cool characters that
<v Speaker 3>you really care about, and I guess.
<v Speaker 2>I'm pretend that like the wife who's just some like
<v Speaker 2>a by but like a byproduct over there. No, it's
<v Speaker 2>core to the experience for a lot of people.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, exactly, it's It's very much the thing where they
<v Speaker 3>lined it up. These characters are going to sell the game. Then,
<v Speaker 3>you know, really decad artists work hard on designing those characters,
<v Speaker 3>but that is always like what pulls you into the game.
<v Speaker 3>And I this actually ties into something I saw in
<v Speaker 3>all the chats here where someone pointed out that why
<v Speaker 3>people would be sad to see Destiny go is because
<v Speaker 3>they've invested so much just time into this franchise that
<v Speaker 3>they don't want to see their attachment to these characters
<v Speaker 3>and stuff to just sort of go up in a
<v Speaker 3>puff of smoke, let alone a you know, literal money
<v Speaker 3>they've invested in the game. So I guess that makes sense,
<v Speaker 3>But yeah, I don't know, just like you said, it
<v Speaker 3>seems like a mess does Everything seems very messy over
<v Speaker 3>there that they're trying to figure out how to move
<v Speaker 3>on to the next thing and are kind of throwing
<v Speaker 3>stuff at the wall.
<v Speaker 2>I mean, that's the situation they put themselves in, because yeah,
<v Speaker 2>but like right, they had to meet certain you know,
<v Speaker 2>milestones for Sony and that, and they really didn't have
<v Speaker 2>the things that they were saying that we're going to
<v Speaker 2>enable them to get to that milestone, so they had
<v Speaker 2>to start making stuff up basically.
<v Speaker 3>And it's a very important note to people, like whenever
<v Speaker 3>we're talking about something super early in development here, all
<v Speaker 3>companies throw shit at the wall like this average Yeah,
<v Speaker 3>just with the you know, the pedigree and the size
<v Speaker 3>and the what's where I'm looking for, just the expectations
<v Speaker 3>of Bungee, it just seems like maybe it's messier than
<v Speaker 3>the average situation.
<v Speaker 2>It was one of Sony's biggest acquisitions, so or you know,
<v Speaker 2>by PlayStation now at this point. Yeah, the studio, like
<v Speaker 2>I said before, gonna end up just being another PlayStation studio.
<v Speaker 2>But Pete Parsons still there, Luke Smith not. I don't
<v Speaker 2>blame Destiny fans for being like it's time to tune now.
<v Speaker 2>I really enjoyed the final shape, but maybe I should
<v Speaker 2>be done with this. I think a lot of people
<v Speaker 2>are going to be in that situation, and then it's
<v Speaker 2>up the Bungie to turn that stuff around, which has
<v Speaker 2>happened before, you know, I think, you know, Star Wars the.
<v Speaker 1>Old Republic did a really good turnaround. Obviously, there's several
<v Speaker 1>other examples. There's a.
<v Speaker 2>Warcraft recently is kind of the best it's ever been
<v Speaker 2>according a lot of those fans, and that was after
<v Speaker 2>hitting a real low point the last couple of years.
<v Speaker 3>Obviously, Final Fantasy fourteen became a different game.
<v Speaker 2>You just completely making a new game there, so right,
<v Speaker 2>and then then you know, the final Fantasy fourteen thing
<v Speaker 2>was not like, oh, there's like turmoil at the company
<v Speaker 2>or something like that, but it was like, no, this
<v Speaker 2>bad game became a good thing.
<v Speaker 3>There was yeah, it's the no clip doc on that
<v Speaker 3>is really good of like there was like turmoil with
<v Speaker 3>the team and everything like that, but it was just
<v Speaker 3>it felt like mismanagement and yeah, they turned it around,
<v Speaker 3>and like any company can turn things around. It's just
<v Speaker 3>more of a situation of is that are the people
<v Speaker 3>in charge going to let the people with the actual
<v Speaker 3>skill turn things around?
<v Speaker 1>Yep, all right, let's take a quick break.
<v Speaker 2>When we come back, a few more headlines, including like three,
<v Speaker 2>all right, let's get right into this next story. Here,
<v Speaker 2>the code name for a new Valve project has people
<v Speaker 2>thinking Half Life three is real again. This from Alex Hopley,
<v Speaker 2>a game reactor. I know, right, these fucking suckers twenty again.
<v Speaker 2>That's good, goddamn suckers. Half Life three is a bit
<v Speaker 2>more of a meme than anything else at this point.
<v Speaker 2>While some are still clinging onto the faint trails of
<v Speaker 2>hope they once had most have come to realize the
<v Speaker 2>game isn't coming out or is it. A recent website post,
<v Speaker 2>which has since been altered, from voice actor Natasha Chandle,
<v Speaker 2>shows that Valve appears to be working on another project
<v Speaker 2>that isn't the hero shooter Deadlock.
<v Speaker 1>Kind of forgot about that one.
<v Speaker 2>The code name for the project is White Sands, which
<v Speaker 2>is a park in New Mexico, the state where black
<v Speaker 2>mesa excuse me resided in. So does this confirm half
<v Speaker 2>Life three? No, not really, but it does mean that
<v Speaker 2>the Valve is working on something else, which could be
<v Speaker 2>well anything, really. I don't blame people for going here, right,
<v Speaker 2>It's so easy to be like, well, what is a
<v Speaker 2>Half Life related project that Valve.
<v Speaker 1>Could be working on?
<v Speaker 2>Well, half Life three, they could be working on a
<v Speaker 2>new VR game, or anything else, or something in the
<v Speaker 2>in the Half Life world or uh, yeah, it could
<v Speaker 2>be any number of things. Especially in my mind was like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>it's a voice actor referencing it. That feels like it
<v Speaker 2>could be coming out soonish. Now that that's not necessarily
<v Speaker 2>the case either, but hey, I'll believe Half lif three
<v Speaker 2>when I see it.
<v Speaker 1>At this point, Sean, I just learned about Deadlock.
<v Speaker 3>Just now, Okay, I'm learning so much on this episode,
<v Speaker 3>but yeah, I don't know, uh, just just mentioning half like,
<v Speaker 3>uh god, I'm sorry, I have so many like trains
<v Speaker 3>of thoughts this morning. But we had another situation not
<v Speaker 3>too long ago where someone referenced something on their resume
<v Speaker 3>and it turns out they were just like confused or like,
<v Speaker 3>you know, they were so detached from the project that
<v Speaker 3>they like, you know, put the wrong thing. So I
<v Speaker 3>don't know that. Yeah, this is like, this is always
<v Speaker 3>a tricky situation, a loose threat to follow when it's
<v Speaker 3>someone references it on you know, like a portfolio and
<v Speaker 3>it's like, oh I type the wrong number or something
<v Speaker 3>like could happen there. That's not a thing that happens
<v Speaker 3>commonly because obviously you want that to be as accurate
<v Speaker 3>as possible. But when someone references something in passing, it's
<v Speaker 3>you can be.
<v Speaker 2>Sure here they're a little bit more details here from
<v Speaker 2>the game Spot story, Georgiang writes.
<v Speaker 1>Now, valve expert Tyler McVicar, who runs like that Steam
<v Speaker 1>News channel on YouTube, has.
<v Speaker 2>Created a video explaining why he thinks Project White Sands
<v Speaker 2>could be the next fully fledged non VR Half Life game.
<v Speaker 2>He reported that another single player Half Life game was
<v Speaker 2>in pre production around the same time as Half Life Alex,
<v Speaker 2>and the code name was HLX. Through data mining, Valves
<v Speaker 2>source to projects and games like dough To two Encounter
<v Speaker 2>Strike two. Vickers said that the characters in Half Life
<v Speaker 2>act or HLX, wears an HGV suit and goes off
<v Speaker 2>world to places with things like zen gorillas or Zeno
<v Speaker 2>gorillas and pent tanks. He thinks that these were actually
<v Speaker 2>cut from Half Life Alex, but we're still being worked
<v Speaker 2>on in some capacity. He also initially wasn't sure if
<v Speaker 2>HLX was just an engine feature or a file format
<v Speaker 2>for saves, but due to recent links from the voice actor,
<v Speaker 2>he believes that Project White Sands is the internal code
<v Speaker 2>name of HLX. Vickers finished the video saying that he
<v Speaker 2>thinks the project is in fact Half Life three. Back
<v Speaker 2>in twenty twenty one, Vickers didn't think Halflay three was
<v Speaker 2>in development yet, saying that at the time, the Steam
<v Speaker 2>Deck handheld was Valve's priority. Okay, yeah, now I think
<v Speaker 2>it's just as likely that the game is in development. Sure, yes,
<v Speaker 2>but it's Valve. It's been They've developed this game before
<v Speaker 2>and it never came out. So I think it's always
<v Speaker 2>kind of important to remember that this will not necessarily
<v Speaker 2>lead to something, but it could at this point, and
<v Speaker 2>I think there is an appetite at Valve to get this,
<v Speaker 2>to actually make this game, and I think it maybe
<v Speaker 2>they're they're maybe at a point where they're looking around like, hey,
<v Speaker 2>we're maybe looking for the technology, the physics or whatever
<v Speaker 2>to justify the game, like the way we that like
<v Speaker 2>did with Half Life two and then with the VR
<v Speaker 2>game where it's like this is new and VR and
<v Speaker 2>you're in first person, you're doing this stuff.
<v Speaker 1>There's a reason for this to be a big new
<v Speaker 1>Half Life game.
<v Speaker 2>Maybe, like the rest of the industry, they'll look around
<v Speaker 2>be like, Okay, we don't have to be completely revolutionary
<v Speaker 2>every time, but there's enough technology we can mess around
<v Speaker 2>with to make a very good game.
<v Speaker 1>And uh, yeah, I think there's a chance that this
<v Speaker 1>could be it.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, definitely. And I will say, like, you know what,
<v Speaker 3>there's a lot of speculation going on here with you know,
<v Speaker 3>the loose threats that we've been giving. But Tyler's track
<v Speaker 3>record is pretty good. I've watched a couple of his videos,
<v Speaker 3>but yeah, he has like insiery info there so maybe
<v Speaker 3>that's one of those situations where he knows Ian more
<v Speaker 3>than he's laying on that's what's leading him to this
<v Speaker 3>conclusion here. So that that makes me a little more
<v Speaker 3>hopeful that like something could be happening somewhere. But yeah,
<v Speaker 3>oh no, I guess we'll see.
<v Speaker 1>I guess we will see.
<v Speaker 2>The new Black Monday of the Japanese stock market plummets
<v Speaker 2>the shares of the country's major gaming companies. This is
<v Speaker 2>from Alberto Garrido at Game Reactor. We wouldn't normally talk
<v Speaker 2>about the stock market crisis that the markets woke up
<v Speaker 2>to this morning, where not for the fact that it
<v Speaker 2>obviously also affects the video game industry. The fall of
<v Speaker 2>the n K two two five index at the opening
<v Speaker 2>of Tokyo this morning. This morning saw a general market
<v Speaker 2>plunge due to fears of a recession in the United States.
<v Speaker 2>There was higher than expected unemployment in the United States
<v Speaker 2>and that last report, and people are pretty spooped by
<v Speaker 2>that and rising tensions in the Middle East. They're expecting
<v Speaker 2>maybe a region of war as well that could break
<v Speaker 2>out to it involved.
<v Speaker 1>In many other countries.
<v Speaker 2>So people are kind of concerned across the board, right now,
<v Speaker 2>and this Black Monday has also been passed on to
<v Speaker 2>the country's big video game companies, basically doctor Sirkin Tooto,
<v Speaker 2>who is worth Following a friend of the site, he wrote,
<v Speaker 2>it's Monday, one thirty pm in Tokyo Now. Investors in
<v Speaker 2>the stock market continue to panic and are causing a bloodbath.
<v Speaker 2>Nintendo was down fifteen percent, Sega was down thirteen percent,
<v Speaker 2>Capcom down sixteen, next On down thirteen, Cave down twenty three,
<v Speaker 2>Konami down eight, Sony down six, Marvelous down ten a
<v Speaker 2>cyber Agent was down ten percent, Coe Techno down six percent,
<v Speaker 2>and Square Next down five percent, and they still had
<v Speaker 2>one point five hours of trading to go. Now, a
<v Speaker 2>lot of this will like could bounce right back depending
<v Speaker 2>on the next like the big indicator from from the
<v Speaker 2>US US economy. There's also still the rate cuts that
<v Speaker 2>are now very likely the next time that the FED meets,
<v Speaker 2>If that starts happening, these things could turn around. So
<v Speaker 2>there's a chance that very quickly investors are going to
<v Speaker 2>look at what's happening right now and be like, Oh,
<v Speaker 2>I'm going to get a discount on these things.
<v Speaker 1>These things I'm going to buy the stuff now.
<v Speaker 2>And if that happens, this could bounce back right away,
<v Speaker 2>or that recession that never came could be here, and uh,
<v Speaker 2>it's yeah a bit. I don't blame people for being
<v Speaker 2>spooked right now. What this means for game companies is, hey,
<v Speaker 2>we're going to the holidays and people were already being
<v Speaker 2>a little bit more mindful of their wallets. That is
<v Speaker 2>something that for the most part though, these companies didn't
<v Speaker 2>have to deal with, especially in the United States, because
<v Speaker 2>consumer spending had remained so high. It was definitely fueling
<v Speaker 2>most of the economy and has been for years and
<v Speaker 2>years and years now, and that has been way more
<v Speaker 2>resilient than anyone's expecting. At a certain point, people expect
<v Speaker 2>that that, you know, we're gonna the rubber's gonna beat
<v Speaker 2>the road there and people will start cutting back on spending.
<v Speaker 2>And video games seems like one that people have spent
<v Speaker 2>a lot on them in recent years, and maybe they'll
<v Speaker 2>pull back even more. So, Yeah, these companies could get
<v Speaker 2>hit pretty.
<v Speaker 1>Hard if that happens. I don't know any anything else.
<v Speaker 3>To add to that, Sean, This is definitely more in
<v Speaker 3>your wheelhouse on more just taking year observations here.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, yeah, the FED meets in three weeks, Thank you
<v Speaker 2>Hammon of Texas. That last one there was like they
<v Speaker 2>did they met a few weeks back and people were like, hey, maybe.
<v Speaker 1>They could cut the interest rate.
<v Speaker 2>It's here now, and that always seemed a little bit
<v Speaker 2>unlikely because they want to make sure that inflation really
<v Speaker 2>is checked, and every other indicator up to that point
<v Speaker 2>was the US economy is doing mostly just fine. Now
<v Speaker 2>there was you know, there's there's always counter indicators back
<v Speaker 2>and forth, but for the most part, people are feeling
<v Speaker 2>pretty good. This is the first one where it's like, oh,
<v Speaker 2>maybe it's not and we might have missed the window
<v Speaker 2>to have that gentle What they always talk about is
<v Speaker 2>a soft landing. Is they know that by raising interest
<v Speaker 2>rates the economy necessarily slows down.
<v Speaker 1>They want that to happen. They want they want uh
<v Speaker 1>wages to slow down in terms of growth and all
<v Speaker 1>that stuff. That's what they're going for.
<v Speaker 2>They are trying to hurt us a little now because
<v Speaker 2>it's a little bit of blood letting, and maybe that
<v Speaker 2>benefits is in the long run because we don't have
<v Speaker 2>some hyperinflation things like that that could really hurt. To
<v Speaker 2>get the like to end that process. They were looking
<v Speaker 2>for this soft landing of all right, maybe we can
<v Speaker 2>get the plane to hit the ground. It's gonna it's
<v Speaker 2>gonna crash a little bit. But if we can sort
<v Speaker 2>of skid, that'll be fine. And now it feels like
<v Speaker 2>they might have missed their opportunity for that and we
<v Speaker 2>could have a little bit more of a rougher landing
<v Speaker 2>and uh, yep, that won't be great for a variety
<v Speaker 2>of reasons. But clearly it's hurting video game companies right
<v Speaker 2>now in terms of the expectations from investors. Now, investors
<v Speaker 2>are all idiots, so this doesn't really mean much yet.
<v Speaker 2>Uh literally, every single one of them are just complete dipshits.
<v Speaker 2>But they have a lot of money, so it makes
<v Speaker 2>the markets go and we'll see what.
<v Speaker 3>How yah was the company? Oh it was a Capcolm
<v Speaker 3>one right where someone asked, why don't you just released
<v Speaker 3>Monster Hunter earlier to make more money?
<v Speaker 1>Yep, they do, so they do ask those things. Yep.
<v Speaker 3>Absolutely, that's kind of investors you get, yeap.
<v Speaker 1>All right, let's say these last couple of stories. Here.
<v Speaker 2>The first footage from HBOS, the last of US season
<v Speaker 2>two has been shown. This is from Chris sculling at VGC,
<v Speaker 2>the first footage from season two of the last of
<v Speaker 2>US TV series has been shown. The footage was shown
<v Speaker 2>at the end of a montage of shows coming to
<v Speaker 2>HBO and its streaming service Max in twenty twenty four
<v Speaker 2>and twenty twenty five. In the clip, Joel, played by
<v Speaker 2>Pedro Pascal, is asked did you hurt her by an
<v Speaker 2>unknown character played by Catherine O'Hara.
<v Speaker 1>Man, Catherine O'Hara's gonna be in the show. Okay, maybe
<v Speaker 1>I'll watch it.
<v Speaker 2>No, Joel replies. Then what O'Hara's character asks, what did
<v Speaker 2>you do? I saved her, Joel says, as a tear
<v Speaker 2>runs down his eye. Oh, man, I'm sure thanks are
<v Speaker 2>going to go just fine for this guy. I think
<v Speaker 2>Eving's gonna pan out exactly how he hopes. I'll just
<v Speaker 2>play this for people to see. Man, when I was
<v Speaker 2>a kid, HBO's like sizzlereeles were the best edited thing
<v Speaker 2>you could ever fucking see.
<v Speaker 1>And they're still they still are pretty good. But that's
<v Speaker 1>happening here.
<v Speaker 2>People are watching the video version can kind of see them. Man,
<v Speaker 2>I forgot about this penguin show that's wild Man Dune
<v Speaker 2>prophecy as well.
<v Speaker 3>What is what is media nowadays?
<v Speaker 1>I movies? Yep, there was a ton of a while ideas.
<v Speaker 3>Jeff, I know how excited we both are to watch
<v Speaker 3>the Last of US TV show because we love the games.
<v Speaker 3>It's just so dark and set our personality for sure.
<v Speaker 1>Uh.
<v Speaker 3>Did you did you see any of season one? No? Not?
<v Speaker 1>I mean you know, I didn't watch any of it.
<v Speaker 2>I'll say, Uh, I saw screenshots and the clips that
<v Speaker 2>ended up on the internet here and there, but no,
<v Speaker 2>I didn't watch it.
<v Speaker 3>Okay, yeah, I I could not have it was interested
<v Speaker 3>to watch it. That's why I chuck up a little bit.
<v Speaker 3>It's like I saved her slowly, slowly, dude, yep. It's
<v Speaker 3>so I'm just gonna let this. It's so try hard,
<v Speaker 3>and I hate how try hard the last they want
<v Speaker 3>to be, these anti motherfuckers. I'm sorry it does not
<v Speaker 3>hit with me.
<v Speaker 1>Yep. That's kind of how I feel about it as well.
<v Speaker 2>And I'm trying not to begrudge anyone who does who
<v Speaker 2>do who does like it, because they're probably just not
<v Speaker 2>consuming the same media that has led me to that feeling.
<v Speaker 1>Uh, And that's completely fine.
<v Speaker 3>I try yuck. Yum's like I used to work with
<v Speaker 3>someone who was a huge lass saying I was like, dude,
<v Speaker 3>I have your thing. That's cool. I'm just gonna be
<v Speaker 3>over here very much and not conned.
<v Speaker 2>I but the show's got a lot of great acting.
<v Speaker 2>There's a lot of great performers in there that I
<v Speaker 2>really really like. So I hope people enjoy it.
<v Speaker 1>I am going to be very, very curious to find
<v Speaker 1>out how non gaming fans, non last of US fans,
<v Speaker 1>react to how this season is going to go down.
<v Speaker 3>And it just seems such a Yeah, it's always felt
<v Speaker 3>so weird to me that, you know, the games are
<v Speaker 3>trying so hard to be a cinematic experience, Like the
<v Speaker 3>concept of doing a TV show adaptations always been odd
<v Speaker 3>to me, but I guess it is, yeah, just to
<v Speaker 3>reach that audience who would never even imagine.
<v Speaker 1>Clear it's clearly worked. Like it's clearly worked.
<v Speaker 2>It's a show that people hold in hyph regard, and
<v Speaker 2>it helped the game sell so just across the board,
<v Speaker 2>it has worked. Like at a certain point, I'm just like, Okay,
<v Speaker 2>this is why they do it. It has worked, and
<v Speaker 2>I not that, you know, I guess I kind of
<v Speaker 2>excuse me. I figured it would, but you're right, Like,
<v Speaker 2>when I about it from a very narrow perspective of
<v Speaker 2>do we need this, I don't always end up with like, well,
<v Speaker 2>clearly we do that.
<v Speaker 1>But that's not why anything gets made.
<v Speaker 3>I see someone saying, my parents liked season one of
<v Speaker 3>the Last of Us. You know what, Yeah, those probably
<v Speaker 3>were people who weren't ever going to play the game.
<v Speaker 3>So yeah, that's exactly why they make it.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, and it's it is the games are very similar
<v Speaker 2>to the Prestige TV shows, and I feel this way
<v Speaker 2>about all Prestige TV shows.
<v Speaker 3>So when we say which is basically just yeah, that's
<v Speaker 3>the reason we don't like.
<v Speaker 2>That, right, right, And that's why when we say like
<v Speaker 2>stuff like try hard, that's I mean, yeah, I just
<v Speaker 2>I kind of have that.
<v Speaker 3>I very yeah, I very much mean that. It's it's like, oh,
<v Speaker 3>that awkward sex scene in the Last of Us part too,
<v Speaker 3>that was very necessary and very much contrude. No, no,
<v Speaker 3>you didn't need to do that, Like, that's.
<v Speaker 1>Just and they're just doing it because they see it
<v Speaker 1>on TV.
<v Speaker 3>And that's how because they see on TV, that's what
<v Speaker 3>it feels like.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah. Uh in open World, Patrick Star game is leaked
<v Speaker 1>for Nintendo Switch.
<v Speaker 2>This is video game, and it would appear as though
<v Speaker 2>a new open world three D platform based upon SpongeBob
<v Speaker 2>Square paints. Patrick Starr is on the horizon, and it
<v Speaker 2>is coming to the Nintendo Switch family of systems. The
<v Speaker 2>game leaked via gaming trailer gave Me retailer excuse me,
<v Speaker 2>ega Biba, and was discovered on social media platform Twitter.
<v Speaker 2>The retail listing has since been removed, but we should
<v Speaker 2>expect an official announcement soon, perhaps at Games Colm this month.
<v Speaker 2>There's a some some details here, but it's yeah, it's
<v Speaker 2>gonna be a Patrick star game. And the cover has
<v Speaker 2>him doing the big starry eyes and stuff like that.
<v Speaker 2>And they're doing this recently. I just they just released
<v Speaker 2>a Sandy Cheeks movie on Netflix. Okay, yeah, and that's
<v Speaker 2>like and that done in the new like CGI style
<v Speaker 2>of one of those movies and stuff like that. So
<v Speaker 2>they're investing continuously in a SpongeBob and it's like the
<v Speaker 2>kind of they're trying to like spread out make a
<v Speaker 2>SpongeBob cinematic universe a little bit.
<v Speaker 3>It feels like, yeah, That's what I was gonna ask you,
<v Speaker 3>is like, did did Patrick get his own movie recently
<v Speaker 3>or something that I didn't know about. This CD come
<v Speaker 3>out of nowhere.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, So I don't know if there's a Patrick movie.
<v Speaker 2>It feels like they're probably If there isn't now, there
<v Speaker 2>probably will be. I was we were at the exchange
<v Speaker 2>and we were buying like old old games, but they
<v Speaker 2>have a huge, like old DVD section and I got
<v Speaker 2>the DVD player in the minivan and they had a
<v Speaker 2>bunch of like SpongeBob stuff that I'm like, Oh, there's
<v Speaker 2>way more of these smaller movies than I realized. I'm like,
<v Speaker 2>I know about the David hass Off movie in the
<v Speaker 2>recent CGI movie, but it's like there's older ones that
<v Speaker 2>were probably like TV specials and things like that, and
<v Speaker 2>they probably are doing a variety of things across all
<v Speaker 2>kinds of scopes.
<v Speaker 1>Either way, Like SpongeBob.
<v Speaker 2>Clearly is a cultural like force, and I'm glad that
<v Speaker 2>they keep kind of turning into this.
<v Speaker 1>Now, there's been a lot of SpongeBob video games.
<v Speaker 2>And there's like maybe one and a half that are
<v Speaker 2>held in any sort of like respectable regard by most.
<v Speaker 3>Like what Balford Bikini Bottom Man. Then people kind of
<v Speaker 3>like the.
<v Speaker 1>Follow up they kind of like the follow up is
<v Speaker 1>kind of my nice sense of it. I didn't play
<v Speaker 1>that one.
<v Speaker 3>But I've never been into SpongeBob. I just didn't grow
<v Speaker 3>up with them, and I didn't I had kids, so yeah,
<v Speaker 3>I know, Yeah, you've been sort of getting caught up
<v Speaker 3>there because raids like it and really enjoyed. Obviously you're
<v Speaker 3>gonna buy them both a squid word in the near future.
<v Speaker 2>I'm going to get a squid word Like this happened
<v Speaker 2>because when they went to Walmart with with the family
<v Speaker 2>when I was at SummerSlam, Emmy got a bluey and say, well,
<v Speaker 2>I was gonna get blue and squidward at the same time.
<v Speaker 2>So that has happened. I mean Addie got something as well,
<v Speaker 2>but she didn't get her squidward. But I'm just goned
<v Speaker 2>sneaky a squidword.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah. This is this is this example right here of
<v Speaker 3>you know, like I clown out of last and it's
<v Speaker 3>just because you know, it's punching up. It's definitely punching
<v Speaker 3>up with a yes, yeah with uh SpongeBob. It's one
<v Speaker 3>of those things where all my friends like grew up
<v Speaker 3>with and so I love they quote all the time.
<v Speaker 3>It's just never been a thing for me, just like
<v Speaker 3>the sense of humor, Like I never had desire to
<v Speaker 3>get in it's just.
<v Speaker 1>Too funny, right, You can't you can't enjoy something like that.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, it's I don't mean this in like as a
<v Speaker 3>derogatory thing, but it is very like juvenile humorous and
<v Speaker 3>there's nothing wrong with that. It's still like there's a
<v Speaker 3>splash for that. Yes, it's it's very slapstick, very like
<v Speaker 3>very silly. This example of one where I'm just like,
<v Speaker 3>oh yeah, yeah, I get SpongeBob. I just don't necessarily
<v Speaker 3>like watch it, but the just the concept of a
<v Speaker 3>Patrick Star game like open world game that alone is
<v Speaker 3>funny enough of a concept and that I would maybe
<v Speaker 3>even check it out, not even liking SpongeBob and I
<v Speaker 3>there's a part.
<v Speaker 2>Of me that's always liked like the idea of kids
<v Speaker 2>games and the games based on popular kid kid's ips.
<v Speaker 1>It's like, man, what is this like, Like is this
<v Speaker 1>like any fun at all?
<v Speaker 2>And sometimes they can't in there they can be exactly
<v Speaker 2>and I'm like, that's I'm glad they're just making these
<v Speaker 2>And part of me is really relieved that they continue
<v Speaker 2>to make games like this for kids, so nothing else.
<v Speaker 3>You know, they'll just be a lighthearted romp that's just like,
<v Speaker 3>you know, very straightforward, and you don't have something too hard,
<v Speaker 3>but you just have some silly fun.
<v Speaker 1>Right, and the kids will be like this, say this
<v Speaker 1>does look like the Blue Show and this does this
<v Speaker 1>is way Look.
<v Speaker 2>I recognize these kids from Paul Patrol, from like that
<v Speaker 2>when they still cared about pul Patrol and stuff like that.
<v Speaker 2>And now it's like, hey, they like SpongeBob and they're
<v Speaker 2>getting more games like that, so fantastic. All right, Uh,
<v Speaker 2>that does it for the news headlines.
<v Speaker 1>I've got the poll coming up right here. Let me
<v Speaker 1>just refresh real quick.
<v Speaker 2>There it is, Okay, do you think the next Battlefield
<v Speaker 2>should be free to play? Fifty seven percent said no,
<v Speaker 2>Forty three percent said yes. So you think your fans
<v Speaker 2>are like, not quite sure what would be the best
<v Speaker 2>for the future of Battlefield. I think enough people are like,
<v Speaker 2>I want Battlefield to continue to be Battlefield. I think
<v Speaker 2>the reality is they're gonna get both. They're gonna get
<v Speaker 2>a free to play like mode and they're gonna get
<v Speaker 2>a a seventy dollars game that has a campaign Firestorm
<v Speaker 2>back is that they'll have to they have to do something,
<v Speaker 2>and that they've got a lot of catching up to
<v Speaker 2>do with the rest of the industry, especially with call
<v Speaker 2>of duty. And they've never and they've always been trying
<v Speaker 2>to catch up to call of duty, and call of
<v Speaker 2>duty kind of is always set in itself more and
<v Speaker 2>more from Battlefield, but yeah, they need.
<v Speaker 3>I was listening to you guys talk about this here day,
<v Speaker 3>and I think call of Duty does have a good
<v Speaker 3>model with it where war Zone is the free of
<v Speaker 3>play thing. It is the bell rail that you expect,
<v Speaker 3>but it has like enough traditional call of duty in
<v Speaker 3>it that it sort of like it gets you to
<v Speaker 3>scratch that itch a little bit, but then you want more,
<v Speaker 3>you want more, and so then you do go over
<v Speaker 3>and you buy the seventy dollars product that they also
<v Speaker 3>want to keep selling. I think that's how they are
<v Speaker 3>getting best at both worlds. They are having their cake
<v Speaker 3>and eating it too, and I think that's what that's
<v Speaker 3>what Battlefield is setting themselves up to do.
<v Speaker 2>Yep, absolutely all right. I have a new poll question
<v Speaker 2>that we will get to here in a second. Before
<v Speaker 2>we do that, Sean, why don't you tell people what
<v Speaker 2>we have going on on the internet. What you have
<v Speaker 2>going on where people could find you all that good stuff.
<v Speaker 3>It's always I'm on Twitter at Turboshan Underscore. You can
<v Speaker 3>find me doing stuff here at Giant Bomb. I'm getting
<v Speaker 3>caught up on a bunch of stuff so I can
<v Speaker 3>get around to like editing the EVO video. I like
<v Speaker 3>sorted through footage and everything. Now I just have to
<v Speaker 3>actually do the bulk of the editing, like it like
<v Speaker 3>shot out earlier in the episode. I think the episode
<v Speaker 3>BCR that me and jaanned down Friday is a great
<v Speaker 3>listen and people have like no the same things. I think,
<v Speaker 3>definitely go give that one. I'll listen, and I guess
<v Speaker 3>we're gonna figure out what we're doing the rest of
<v Speaker 3>the week here.
<v Speaker 2>Yep, we're gonna go figure that out in a couple
<v Speaker 2>of meetings that have in fact already started. We'll get
<v Speaker 2>all that up on the site, on Twitter and stuff,
<v Speaker 2>so everyone can be looking out for all those good things.
<v Speaker 2>One thing for sure, we'll have a bomb cast tomorrow
<v Speaker 2>and we'll talk about a little bit of like summer Slam,
<v Speaker 2>but also just hanging out. We went to sixteen bit
<v Speaker 2>and Pens and I mostly dominated all right, like bowling,
<v Speaker 2>not maybe not bullying, maybe everything except.
<v Speaker 3>For the Yeah, I wondering what you're talking about.
<v Speaker 1>Here go a bunch of games.
<v Speaker 2>There was like a sit down table where each person
<v Speaker 2>sits on one side and then there's a full sized
<v Speaker 2>soccer ball in there and you just like all you
<v Speaker 2>can do is kick, and we played that, and we
<v Speaker 2>did like a round robin and I've played against everybody.
<v Speaker 2>And then there's this game where like you give these
<v Speaker 2>like flimsy circles you have to throw on these hooks
<v Speaker 2>on the wall. And me and Mike teamed up and
<v Speaker 2>went against Tyler Gardner, who is an industry person, and
<v Speaker 2>Dan and we played Votchi ball.
<v Speaker 3>Oh that's what you guys are posting about exactly.
<v Speaker 1>And then we did play PINNs mechanical bowling, which is
<v Speaker 1>like the small ball bowling, which was a lot of
<v Speaker 1>fun and the place was hopping. We played pac Man.
<v Speaker 1>We did a chance like a championship of pac Man.
<v Speaker 1>Who can get the high score.
<v Speaker 2>So I'll give you all the results on on Bobcast tomorrow,
<v Speaker 2>so we'll talk about it there.
<v Speaker 1>And I want to rub some stuff in some faces
<v Speaker 1>a little bit.
<v Speaker 2>So that'll that'll be a good time, and then Blake
<v Speaker 2>Clubs should happen this week. There's a real good chance
<v Speaker 2>I could beat that game, and if we do, we
<v Speaker 2>will tease what is next for Mike. We'll probably say
<v Speaker 2>like what platform we're going on and things like that.
<v Speaker 2>I'm really looking forward to it, and me and Dan
<v Speaker 2>we're kind of talking doing some research and we found
<v Speaker 2>something we're pretty happy with and we even got Jarem
<v Speaker 2>already working on the art for it and stuff like that.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, we were kind of cracking up looking at
<v Speaker 2>this game. So I'm excited. I don't want to build
<v Speaker 2>it up too much, but it'sould be a good time.
<v Speaker 1>All right. New pole question, do you think we'll ever
<v Speaker 1>get Half Life three? Yes or no?
<v Speaker 2>That'll be on YouTube dot com slash at Giant Bomb.
<v Speaker 2>Go to the community tab there, vote there, vote with
<v Speaker 2>your heart. I suppose's let's see what's inside of your
<v Speaker 2>soul for half Life three and then anything else.
<v Speaker 1>You know. The rest of the week, we'll have most
<v Speaker 1>of the normal stuff.
<v Speaker 2>I'm sure we'll get some other surprises in there, but
<v Speaker 2>look out for a upf lookout for BCR. Maybe we'll
<v Speaker 2>be able to record a power bomb cast. If we
<v Speaker 2>can sneak some time away a voicemail dumb truck will happen.
<v Speaker 2>Look out for all that stuff as normal. Sean, thank
<v Speaker 2>you for hanging out with me today and talking about
<v Speaker 2>video games. Man, I really appreciate it.
<v Speaker 3>Hey all, it's a fun time coming on the show.
<v Speaker 2>Jeff, thank you all for listening. Thank you all for watching.
<v Speaker 2>You're the best audience in gaming. Until next time, have
<v Speaker 2>a good one, take care of yourself and goodbye and
<v Speaker 2>get me look at gummy better.
