<v Speaker 2>Everybody, and welcome to this week's episode of the Main
<v Speaker 2>Event Review. Thank you very much for tuning in once again.
<v Speaker 2>I'm just going to be full transparent with you, guys.
<v Speaker 2>I know it's a WWE podcast and we really like
<v Speaker 2>to steer away from things that happen outside of the world,
<v Speaker 2>but it's very hard for me to sit here record
<v Speaker 2>this podcast on the back of the events that transpired
<v Speaker 2>yesterday here in Sydney, Australia. I am from Melbourne, so
<v Speaker 2>it didn't happen in my state, so I'm okay. But
<v Speaker 2>just just a massacre that occurred, a terrorist attack, just
<v Speaker 2>on a Honiker Day, a clear anti syneptic attack. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I've got no got no words for it, to be honest.
<v Speaker 2>It's just for me being Australian. It's something that I
<v Speaker 2>never would have thought happened in my country and for
<v Speaker 2>the first time ever, I generally feel unsafe here and
<v Speaker 2>of course, I'm proud to be Australian and yeah, this
<v Speaker 2>really hurts me as as a countryman, as someone from here.
<v Speaker 3>But just just wanted to give.
<v Speaker 2>You guys a bit of the outline there and praying
<v Speaker 2>for all of the souls that passed away and that
<v Speaker 2>we can recover from this, and yeah, I just wanted
<v Speaker 2>to just mention it. If you guys aren't aware, it's
<v Speaker 2>probably all over the news as well, but it's really
<v Speaker 2>affected me mentally the last two days and I will
<v Speaker 2>just try to not think about it when recording this
<v Speaker 2>podcast and talking about what I love and that is
<v Speaker 2>wrestling as well. So again having the platform to be
<v Speaker 2>able to do this, being able to just be able
<v Speaker 2>to do this as well, I've got to be grateful for.
<v Speaker 2>And yeah, I just hate like to see things like this,
<v Speaker 2>even in general, but especially when it's just so close
<v Speaker 2>to you as well. It's really affected me, So I
<v Speaker 2>don't need to start on a sour note, because it
<v Speaker 2>is a story of sour notes. Also in the wrestling front,
<v Speaker 2>we obviously had John Seena's last ever match. He's officially retired,
<v Speaker 2>it's all done. He loses his final match, tapping out
<v Speaker 2>and finally giving up to Gunfa, and I'm going to
<v Speaker 2>start with my opinion on the booking before we get
<v Speaker 2>into obviously what happened after the show with Triple H,
<v Speaker 2>with the fans swearing at him, with gun for getting
<v Speaker 2>the abuse that he got, and sit there and actually
<v Speaker 2>take the opposite realm and say that I think it
<v Speaker 2>was the correct decision and decision that to me made
<v Speaker 2>the most sense.
<v Speaker 3>Now, I'm not expecting people to be happy with the decision.
<v Speaker 2>I'm not expecting people to feel as though that it
<v Speaker 2>was a terrible booking, but I just totally get why
<v Speaker 2>he tapped out, and it's because he's finished. He's tapped
<v Speaker 2>out of wrestling. He's actually given up on wrestling. He's retired.
<v Speaker 2>So for him to tap out on his last match,
<v Speaker 2>I think was fitting and what made the most sense.
<v Speaker 2>And as I was like looking into the match, I
<v Speaker 2>kind of had an inkling that it could happen, I'm like, well,
<v Speaker 2>John Cena.
<v Speaker 3>Actually tap out for the first, very first.
<v Speaker 2>Time, and it did happen. Gunther tapped John Cena out.
<v Speaker 2>And before everyone can sit there and blame Triple H,
<v Speaker 2>and yes, Triple H has been very I think interesting
<v Speaker 2>when it comes to his bookings, and I've been critical
<v Speaker 2>of him as well with some of the bookings he's
<v Speaker 2>made and just the fact that he hypes everything up
<v Speaker 2>makes things about him and it doesn't deliver. In this instance,
<v Speaker 2>I generally feel that John Cena, it was John Cena's call.
<v Speaker 2>Now Triple H needs to sign this off, but I
<v Speaker 2>think John Cena was the one that approved this and
<v Speaker 2>had the final say in how he was going to
<v Speaker 2>go out in his retirement match. So for that alone,
<v Speaker 2>I do respect that that John Cena did it this
<v Speaker 2>way and it made the most sense.
<v Speaker 3>What I can criticize Triple H for.
<v Speaker 2>Is when he came out and the ring being the
<v Speaker 2>first one to come out, just he finds a way
<v Speaker 2>to make things about him, you know what I mean.
<v Speaker 2>It's just annoying, like that fake smile, like he knew
<v Speaker 2>it wasn't genuine. The tribute video was was quite emotional,
<v Speaker 2>if I'm honest, but like just him being the one
<v Speaker 2>to present it and everything.
<v Speaker 3>Yeah, the whole, the whole, the whole stuff making about
<v Speaker 3>him was interesting.
<v Speaker 2>What I love is the heat that Gunha is getting,
<v Speaker 2>Like you're going to talk about a heel that is
<v Speaker 2>going to get booed out.
<v Speaker 3>Of the building.
<v Speaker 2>Every single week, you have just put Gunther over and
<v Speaker 2>now with this heat, Triple H has to do something
<v Speaker 2>for it because if it's been his choice, if he
<v Speaker 2>made the final say, if John Cena has approved this,
<v Speaker 2>then this is a stepping stone for Gunha to put
<v Speaker 2>him over because he was the one that made John
<v Speaker 2>Cena give up and defeated him in his retirement match.
<v Speaker 2>He obviously got abuse from outside the arena, which I
<v Speaker 2>genuinely think is stupid and not on. Like, the guy's
<v Speaker 2>a performer, what happens outside the ring is not related
<v Speaker 2>to what's in the ring. He's a human being and
<v Speaker 2>he's just a worker in the end of the day,
<v Speaker 2>following the storyline of what he's supposed.
<v Speaker 3>To be doing. So for him.
<v Speaker 2>For wrestlers like that go out and abuse Gunsa and
<v Speaker 2>going up to him publicly, I think he's dumb because realistically.
<v Speaker 3>Do you your brain?
<v Speaker 2>Does your brain comprehend that he's actually not the person
<v Speaker 2>that makes the decision. And you can see how upset
<v Speaker 2>I am because I'm obviously bringing up the stuff that
<v Speaker 2>I mentioned at the start into this podcast. Apologies, but
<v Speaker 2>I just think it's done, in my opinion, to do that.
<v Speaker 2>I don't mind the booze. I don't mind the abuse
<v Speaker 2>that's that's not outside of the ring, and like to
<v Speaker 2>a point where he can be endangered. Obviously we're talking
<v Speaker 2>about in danger at the start, like everyone's on edge.
<v Speaker 2>Not necessary for me, but yes, Gunha's got heat now
<v Speaker 2>and they have to do something with this because I
<v Speaker 2>think it's great heat. I think it's appropriate and yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I'm excited to see what they'll do with Gunthera. John
<v Speaker 2>Cena will very much be around obviously, he's been signed
<v Speaker 2>on as an ambassador, so we'll probably see him around
<v Speaker 2>here and there, which will be right, so he will
<v Speaker 2>still be able to listen to his music and his
<v Speaker 2>entrance when he comes out here and there. But again,
<v Speaker 2>it's the last time we're going to see him wrestle.
<v Speaker 2>For me, he's the goat. I've always said it. I
<v Speaker 2>grew up watching John Cena. He was my childhood hero.
<v Speaker 3>He was He made a lot to me as well.
<v Speaker 2>They never give up the hustle law to respect those.
<v Speaker 3>Things I lived with and I was influenced by it
<v Speaker 3>with him, So it was sad.
<v Speaker 2>I did get a little emotional, to be honest, when
<v Speaker 2>he did finish up, and it's it's the reality is
<v Speaker 2>hit that his time is finally up. But yeah, that
<v Speaker 2>that pretty much is what my sort of take on
<v Speaker 2>the on the John Cena situation.
<v Speaker 3>The match itself excellent, very very good.
<v Speaker 2>Match, obviously slow paced, best suited to Gunther's style of wrestling.
<v Speaker 2>A lot of aas he kicked out of. But again,
<v Speaker 2>that's been the sort of general consensus of the whole
<v Speaker 2>retirement tour this year is that a lot of superstars
<v Speaker 2>are kicking out of the AA. You had gun for
<v Speaker 2>going through the table, which was quite nice. It was
<v Speaker 2>a great spot and just his methodical way of wrestling
<v Speaker 2>I really do like, and I think they did a
<v Speaker 2>really good job in having that in. The fans were hot,
<v Speaker 2>which was great to see. And yeah, like the match
<v Speaker 2>was great. I didn't expect anything less than what I saw,
<v Speaker 2>so I'm not going to sit there and say that
<v Speaker 2>it blew my expectations.
<v Speaker 3>It was match of the year.
<v Speaker 2>We obviously know that Johnsen at aj Styles matchup was
<v Speaker 2>probably his best match in the retirement tour, but the
<v Speaker 2>match between Johnson and Gunther was exactly what I would
<v Speaker 2>have imagined happening.
<v Speaker 3>So for me, excellent for me, just it was great.
<v Speaker 3>And to see.
<v Speaker 2>Cody Rhodes seem Punk give the titles to John Cena
<v Speaker 2>was a nice touching moment as well. And all the
<v Speaker 2>superstars coming outside and congratulating him, seeing Kevin Owens which
<v Speaker 2>was awesome, seeing Sammy's aim with his kids, seeing Rob Van, Dan,
<v Speaker 2>Kurt Angle, Chris Statis, and I'm probably forgetting a few more,
<v Speaker 2>but all their Oh Lias too, sing a Lias is
<v Speaker 2>awesome as well, in the in the in the crowd
<v Speaker 2>just getting ready for to watch his match and just
<v Speaker 2>congratulate him was simply awesome. And there is no doubt
<v Speaker 2>that he's going to be a Hall of Famer. I
<v Speaker 2>think they should just get it done with and give
<v Speaker 2>him the Hall of Fame next year. I think it's
<v Speaker 2>I think it's time. I don't think we need to
<v Speaker 2>wait an extra year. We haven't obviously inducted anyone else
<v Speaker 2>besides Stephanie McMahon, so why not induct Johnson the next year?
<v Speaker 3>Like we all know he's gonna he's gonna do it.
<v Speaker 2>So yeah, that's that's the case, and I guess, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>it's the end of John sena but let's see how
<v Speaker 2>things go moving forward. We're obviously on with the future.
<v Speaker 2>We had the rest of the main event matches, which
<v Speaker 2>will review, but we'll go to our original sort of show,
<v Speaker 2>which is the main event review with the quick two matches.
<v Speaker 2>We'll touch up them very quickly. We had Kid Wilson
<v Speaker 2>taking on Shinsk Nakamura Kinds Kate getting a win, Shinsk
<v Speaker 2>not getting a win. Sorry, think Wilson still just he
<v Speaker 2>can't win. Know, he can't win a match on main event,
<v Speaker 2>and it's good to see him get some time there,
<v Speaker 2>but nothing really going on with his character, and Shinske
<v Speaker 2>is just a feel good moment wrestler at the moment.
<v Speaker 2>He was in the five y five, but I don't
<v Speaker 2>really suspect that he'll be doing anything else. But you know,
<v Speaker 2>Shinsky is a legend, so it's great to see him
<v Speaker 2>performing ring. He's got exceptional in ring nobility. It's just
<v Speaker 2>a shame that obviously he's English is not his first language, he.
<v Speaker 3>Can't really pull any effective promos.
<v Speaker 2>But I like that he's still in the company just
<v Speaker 2>to perform match in matches like this, So yeah, pretty
<v Speaker 2>standard match. Then we had I think it was Rio,
<v Speaker 2>one of the members of the I'll grand the Americano team. Obviously,
<v Speaker 2>this is being Pete Donne and man like. I know,
<v Speaker 2>Pete Done's being a workhorse, but the fact that he
<v Speaker 2>has to wear a mask and be a luchador like
<v Speaker 2>you get paid, I guess if you don't do it,
<v Speaker 2>you won't become part of WWE. But at the same time,
<v Speaker 2>I just think it's just it's just unfortunate that he
<v Speaker 2>has the result to having that character, if that makes sense.
<v Speaker 3>But the match was quite solid.
<v Speaker 2>We had the final outcome, which was the same finish
<v Speaker 2>that our Grande users, which is the metal piece headbart Obviously,
<v Speaker 2>Primo I think was the one that provided the head
<v Speaker 2>butt to Rio. Obviously, then Otis came in and interrupted
<v Speaker 2>that attacked him and the ref got distracted. That allowed
<v Speaker 2>the chance for I'm just gonna say Pete Dune to
<v Speaker 2>put the metal piece in his head, headbutting a Curatezawa
<v Speaker 2>and getting the victory there, which I think was the
<v Speaker 2>right decision. I think those two it's a shame that
<v Speaker 2>they are what they are, But at the same time,
<v Speaker 2>I think the Americanos need the momentum.
<v Speaker 3>Hopefully we get to see them.
<v Speaker 2>It's Bravo, Bravo and Rio so Bravo giving the piece
<v Speaker 2>and Rio finishing it off there Ryo, which is good,
<v Speaker 2>but yeah, just to give them so much need momentum
<v Speaker 2>going into whatever they have planned for them, whether it's
<v Speaker 2>on Triple or whether it's on Raw.
<v Speaker 3>Let's let's see what happens. But we haven't. We haven't
<v Speaker 3>seen ol.
<v Speaker 2>Grande in a while on Raw, and yeah, I don't
<v Speaker 2>know what they're doing with you. I don't know what's
<v Speaker 2>going to happen with Chad Gable returns that there's a
<v Speaker 2>lot of sort of moving pieces with that as well,
<v Speaker 2>so we'll keep eyes on that. But again, the Off
<v Speaker 2>Academy just continued to stay on main event. But that
<v Speaker 2>pretty much wraps that up. We then had Saturday night's
<v Speaker 2>main event with the first match, Ober Family taking on
<v Speaker 2>Cody Rhodes and that ended in a disqualification with Drew
<v Speaker 2>McIntyre entering. And I did think that Cody Rhodes would
<v Speaker 2>win the match, but then, as I mentioned in my
<v Speaker 2>SmackDown review, go check that out, I've got two episodes
<v Speaker 2>filling in for Amanda and then one more next week
<v Speaker 2>that Drew McIntyre would interfere. I didn't know that the
<v Speaker 2>match would get the be the qualification, but I knew
<v Speaker 2>he'd interfere, and he definitely did. He obviously disqualified Cody
<v Speaker 2>Well hit Cody Road Roads and gave him the victory
<v Speaker 2>on disqualification, so you can say that Cody Rhodes technically won,
<v Speaker 2>but it was obviously a disqualification. And then you had
<v Speaker 2>Oberfemi supporting Cody hitting Drew McIntyre with the choke slam,
<v Speaker 2>and that's when both of the superstars held each other's
<v Speaker 2>hands up in a match that was quite solid. I'm
<v Speaker 2>keen to see ober Femi get on the main roster.
<v Speaker 2>I think I'm ready for that. I think it'll be
<v Speaker 2>awesome to see him there. He's currently the NXT champion.
<v Speaker 2>I do suspect that once he drops the belt he'll
<v Speaker 2>be moving up to the main roster. I think that
<v Speaker 2>would make the most sense. But this was probably the
<v Speaker 2>right decision. You don't want to cost ob Femi a
<v Speaker 2>chance to lose his momentum or I guess not get
<v Speaker 2>the result. At the same time, you don't want your
<v Speaker 2>champion dropping a match to Oberfemi either, so it was
<v Speaker 2>probably the right decision there. We obviously are not seeing
<v Speaker 2>the end of Cody Roads and Drew McIntyre. We're probably
<v Speaker 2>going to see a match either on the next Saturday
<v Speaker 2>Night's main event or at the Roll Rumble who knows.
<v Speaker 2>But again, this is a filler match like Kevin Owen's
<v Speaker 2>last year before we get to the real main stuff,
<v Speaker 2>which is obviously the WrestleMania stuff as well. So yeah,
<v Speaker 2>again a match that protects both superstars. I want to
<v Speaker 2>see Obafemi on the main roster coming soon, and we'll
<v Speaker 2>get more Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre. We then move
<v Speaker 2>on to the next match, which was Soul Rooker taking
<v Speaker 2>on Bailey and I'm happy I predicted this, Soul Rooker
<v Speaker 2>getting the victory there with a few counterpins to win
<v Speaker 2>and one of the biggest wins of Soul Ruker's career.
<v Speaker 3>She's incredible in the ring.
<v Speaker 2>Let me tell you, I am so keen to see
<v Speaker 2>her development in the future because I think she's going
<v Speaker 2>to be doing a lot of really good things. I
<v Speaker 2>think there's a lot of story to be told there
<v Speaker 2>with Zaria, I think they're obviously having.
<v Speaker 3>A few soon. I reckon.
<v Speaker 2>There was rumors that that was going to happen at
<v Speaker 2>Saturday Nights main event. It didn't make sen to do it,
<v Speaker 2>given that not everyone including myself follows NXT on a
<v Speaker 2>weekly basis, obviously due to time and just the resource.
<v Speaker 3>But again, Soul Rooker getting the.
<v Speaker 2>Victory on Bailey and Bailey continues to do a really
<v Speaker 2>good job in putting superstars over.
<v Speaker 3>So yeah, it was a great match. Bailey is really
<v Speaker 3>good in the ring.
<v Speaker 2>She's got great chemistry, and sol Rooker has that soule
<v Speaker 2>statut which.
<v Speaker 3>Is an incredible finishing move.
<v Speaker 2>But overall, she's just quite athletic and I think she
<v Speaker 2>offers something really different to a lot of these other women,
<v Speaker 2>and that's what makes me excited for the future for
<v Speaker 2>her as well. And I think she's another one that
<v Speaker 2>definitely is going to the main roster as well. And
<v Speaker 2>speaking of young and talented, we have Leon Slater and
<v Speaker 2>Javon Evans taking on aj Styles and Dragonly almost at
<v Speaker 2>a j Lee always get confused when I talk about
<v Speaker 2>these two but two twenty one year olds born after
<v Speaker 2>John Zena's first ever match, which is quite crazy. We
<v Speaker 2>spoke about Javon Evans on SmackDown. Leon Slater. I've heard
<v Speaker 2>a lot about him, but I didn't really know much
<v Speaker 2>about him because he is on TNA, and again, if
<v Speaker 2>I'm not having time to watch NXT, how can I
<v Speaker 2>really follow TNA that greatly.
<v Speaker 3>But at the end of the day, it was awesome to.
<v Speaker 2>See two young stars compete and again they've got bright
<v Speaker 2>futures as well. The uber athletic They came out the
<v Speaker 2>gates hot with some crazy, high flying moves. The match
<v Speaker 2>didn't go too long, but at the end of the day, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>ag Style was getting the styles Clash on Leon Slater
<v Speaker 2>and getting the victory.
<v Speaker 3>But it was just a great display of athletic ability.
<v Speaker 3>And we had a botch.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know if that was a botch, but what
<v Speaker 2>I was impressed about was the fact that for someone
<v Speaker 2>so young, Leon Slater was able to adapt to the
<v Speaker 2>situation and improvise on the fly. I think the match
<v Speaker 2>was supposed to finish with the phenomenal Forum, but just
<v Speaker 2>that quick ring awareness and improvisation despite the botch was awesome.
<v Speaker 2>And then we had the finisher, which was the styles clash,
<v Speaker 2>so obviously aj styles from that. Probably he's definitely retiring
<v Speaker 2>if he's doing batches like that, So I mean, I
<v Speaker 2>feel for him, but I'm glad he's safe that's the
<v Speaker 2>main thing, and they obviously getting the victory. I didn't
<v Speaker 2>review that because I'll preview that. Because I didn't the
<v Speaker 2>match wasn't set up when I did the preview show.
<v Speaker 3>But yeah, that was the right decision.
<v Speaker 2>We got to see Jovon Evans, which we've been seeing
<v Speaker 2>a lot, but seeing Leon Slater, for me, it was awesome.
<v Speaker 2>And he also looks like he's got a bright future
<v Speaker 2>and his uber athletic as well, and who knows, we
<v Speaker 2>may see them to have a lot of rivalries.
<v Speaker 3>When they get on the main show.
<v Speaker 2>Eventually, I think Leon Slater will probably have a run
<v Speaker 2>in an XT and Javon Evans will probably get to
<v Speaker 2>the main show quicker.
<v Speaker 3>But yeah, we've got a really good future ahead.
<v Speaker 2>I think with those four superstars that were displayed on
<v Speaker 2>Saturday Night's main event as well. And then we get
<v Speaker 2>a nice and I love this, I'm not gonna lie
<v Speaker 2>a nice little promo, a little segment with the Miz
<v Speaker 2>coming out interrupting Stephanie McMahon with awesome that was well
<v Speaker 2>executed there. He basically was getting upset that he wasn't
<v Speaker 2>on the card or this, this, that, and that's where
<v Speaker 2>our truth came into Our Truth got a segment in
<v Speaker 2>this which was awesome and basically made a joke about
<v Speaker 2>saying that the Mis took nick Olis's balls, and then
<v Speaker 2>Our Truth obviously gave the ball that was supposed to
<v Speaker 2>be drawn, and that's when the Mis said Joe Hendry
<v Speaker 2>and albeit say his name and he appears. That's exactly
<v Speaker 2>what happened. We saw Joe Hendry make his appearance on
<v Speaker 2>Saturday Night's main event into the ring. The Mis wasn't
<v Speaker 2>happy about it at all, pushed Joe Hendry and then
<v Speaker 2>we had a bit of a brawl there and then
<v Speaker 2>the essential big choke slamb that he's got the standing ovation.
<v Speaker 2>I'm pretty sure he calls it on Miss and then
<v Speaker 2>hitting the five or ten knuckle shuffle with Our Truth,
<v Speaker 2>and it's just funny to see Our Truth posing with
<v Speaker 2>Joe Hendry with the close up pose that Joe Hendry
<v Speaker 2>always does.
<v Speaker 3>And again, I think.
<v Speaker 2>When Joe Hendri gets on the main show, I would
<v Speaker 2>love to see him in the MISS. I think that
<v Speaker 2>would be an awesome like debut sort of rivalry for
<v Speaker 2>Joe Hendry. He signed on to NXT and we're going
<v Speaker 2>to see him on the main show as well. So
<v Speaker 2>there's so many young superstars that are elevating on NXT
<v Speaker 2>that are going to get on the main show, and
<v Speaker 2>I think the main show is going to be stacked,
<v Speaker 2>and it's going to be interesting to see how Triple
<v Speaker 2>H if he books stuff correctly, he books everything there
<v Speaker 2>as well. So that pretty much wraps up the last segment.
<v Speaker 2>As then we obviously spoke about John Sena's last retirement
<v Speaker 2>match to end the show. He was talking about him
<v Speaker 2>starting the show, and like no one really talked about
<v Speaker 2>how the fact that he just blatantly lied or if
<v Speaker 2>like Chiblazers like nah, I'm definitely not doing that, that
<v Speaker 2>that's definitely going to be the main event, or he
<v Speaker 2>was just trying to like get people to just tune
<v Speaker 2>in at the start, saying that he'll be first, So
<v Speaker 2>when he wasn't, people were already locked in and expecting it.
<v Speaker 2>And then when the show came on, obviously we saw
<v Speaker 2>Cody Roodzenoberfemi, so they had no choice but to stay
<v Speaker 2>and wait. That would have been a smart play because yeah,
<v Speaker 2>you get people to actually watch while thinking that he
<v Speaker 2>was first, but again that wasn't the case. It was
<v Speaker 2>always going to be the main event, and it was
<v Speaker 2>and it delivered to me. The decision was a correct decision,
<v Speaker 2>whether you like it or not in terms of a booking,
<v Speaker 2>and if we take our emotions away from it, the
<v Speaker 2>correct decision. John Cena has given up. He has retired.
<v Speaker 2>Of course, his mantra is to never give up, but
<v Speaker 2>he has to follow I guess what his mantra is,
<v Speaker 2>and the fact that he is retiring, so it was
<v Speaker 2>a great decision and the fact that his smiled just
<v Speaker 2>showed how genuine it was. And it was great to
<v Speaker 2>see him being genuine in the ring as well and
