Episode 136 - The Night Lords pt1 - The creation of the 8th legion and Konrad's arrival and rise on Nostramo
On Today’s cast we begin our coverage of the Night Lords with of course their formation under the emperor (it is awful). We then talk a bit about how the emperor used them as the 8th legion (also awful). But then we jump in Konrad Kurze (not Konrad Cruze) and his arrival on Nostramo and rise to power (?) there. Then we talk about the legion forming under Konrad and how they adjusted to his new leadership and evolved as a legion into being even more terror based.

[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the Forty K-Lorecast. [SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to 4K Lorcats with me, John Barsati and Brad Chester. [SPEAKER_01]: This guy. [SPEAKER_01]: Today, we're beginning our coverage of Nightlord, which mostly means Brad and I are going about Con Red Curse. [SPEAKER_01]: 100% because that's we were doing it before you started because I have strong opinions, Brad is strong opinions, and I'm usually right. [SPEAKER_01]: So that's how it's going to go. [SPEAKER_00]: You only have, you only say you're right, because you edit. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. [SPEAKER_00]: I become the fault. [SPEAKER_01]: I'll be here by default. [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, 40K, 40K Lordcast, weekly show in the lore of the Warhammer 40K universe, releasing every Monday at 7pm Eastern. [SPEAKER_01]: Please follow, comment on the cast, it does help us out a lot, and I enjoy your comments. [SPEAKER_01]: They make me giggle. [SPEAKER_01]: So I appreciate that. [SPEAKER_01]: If you like it, want to check out some other stuff, check out our YouTube for a by monthly ish. [SPEAKER_01]: It's always ish, Q&A, as we have another one coming up, that Brad and I probably should schedule. [SPEAKER_01]: If you like this show, check out our other show, the history of 40k or we talk about the history of the game of Warhammer 40k primary and the tabletop but also do some gaming etc. [SPEAKER_01]: Or if you just don't like Brad's voice but love my voice, check out my other show, Retro Recall. [SPEAKER_01]: Not a real thing, but yeah, check out my other show retro recall where I covered video games from the 80s and 90s, some of them are good, some of them are bad, hey Brad, remember echo the dolphin? [SPEAKER_01]: I did. [SPEAKER_01]: That game was not that that I just played it for two minutes and all the horrible memories came back of. [SPEAKER_01]: Just [SPEAKER_01]: challenge and struggle. [SPEAKER_00]: It's got to come up with, actually. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not happening. [SPEAKER_01]: Also, why, why, why is the Lion King and Aladdin two of the hardest games ever made? [SPEAKER_00]: Because that period of time, they said, figure it out or don't, we don't care. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, I'm just a game genius move on. [SPEAKER_01]: Exactly. [SPEAKER_01]: You're God. [SPEAKER_01]: All right. [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, but. [SPEAKER_01]: More importantly, if you want help us out, we do have two great ways you can help us out and help us continue to kind of expand our show and do more cool stuff, because we have a really big expansion coming really for Brad on YouTube. [SPEAKER_01]: He's got a bunch of his own stuff coming out for YouTube, which will be really great. [SPEAKER_01]: Ooh, I forgot. [SPEAKER_01]: Brad, we've been getting a lot of requests recently. [SPEAKER_01]: and we forgot to tell everyone, if you play Warhammer 40K and you want coaching, Brad actually is a Warhammer 40K coach. [SPEAKER_01]: We've forgotten to promote that for a while, and there's two ways you can get coaching from Brad. [SPEAKER_01]: One, the modern way, you can join our discord, and you can go there and request it. [SPEAKER_01]: But. [SPEAKER_01]: The email address is dead bread. [SPEAKER_01]: It's long gone. [SPEAKER_01]: There's no getting it back. [SPEAKER_01]: For old times sake. [SPEAKER_00]: If someone wanted to email you and not have you respond up, oh, man, Brad, 40 KG, they'll dot com. [SPEAKER_01]: He does shut out on occasion. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, that is a way to do it. [SPEAKER_01]: But. [SPEAKER_01]: Beyond that, we also do have two other ways you can help us out. [SPEAKER_01]: You can go to our website, 40klorcast.com, link in the show notes, and you can buy merchandise. [SPEAKER_01]: We have sweatshirt stickers, a bunch of cool stuff, or our Patreon. [SPEAKER_01]: Patreon's how we've done most of our expansion. [SPEAKER_01]: It's how we've been able to do some YouTube stuff. [SPEAKER_01]: We've got some new software as it allows us to do some cool stuff on YouTube. [SPEAKER_01]: Our Patreon's very simple. [SPEAKER_01]: $4.99 a month. [SPEAKER_01]: You get this show and history of 40k completely ad-free. [SPEAKER_01]: Mauritia, which I may be mispronouncing, by the way. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, during the year that one out there, it's a really cool example of a paradise and why Europeans in the sixteenth and seventeenth century shocked. [SPEAKER_01]: Just east of Madagascar, Mauritius, Mauritia, Mauritius. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Mauritius is a paradise and hard core paradise. [SPEAKER_01]: It's got sand dunes that are seven different colors that never blend, which is kind of cool. [SPEAKER_01]: It has an underwater waterfall. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, not really, but it looks like that. [SPEAKER_01]: It has just beaches upon beaches. [SPEAKER_01]: The ocean around it is surrounded by a reef. [SPEAKER_01]: So sharks can't even get in. [SPEAKER_01]: So you can swim like with reckless abandon. [SPEAKER_01]: But the problem is, it is far to get there. [SPEAKER_00]: That is a abandon. [SPEAKER_01]: So when you talk about the Indian Ocean, the problem with the Indian Ocean is it's one of the few places that does have a lot of predatory fish. [SPEAKER_01]: And if you're going to swim around the top and splash around our willy nilly style, it's one of the places you can get bit. [SPEAKER_01]: Like just Caribbean, you're mostly okay. [SPEAKER_01]: Most places in the world here. [SPEAKER_01]: The most places you can, you're good, but like certain parts of like Western Australia, South Africa, this is one of those spots where like swims on just assuming your reckless abandoned swimming is just you. [SPEAKER_00]: It's more something. [SPEAKER_01]: It's punching the water. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, for no. [SPEAKER_01]: It's more like I can tell your story in the time about when I was in Fiji swimming in like seeing a bunch of tiger sharks and later seeing guys surfing going well, that's not a great combo. [SPEAKER_01]: But back to Mauritius. [SPEAKER_01]: Martinez was actually interesting thing about it. [SPEAKER_01]: It was never settled until the 15th century. [SPEAKER_01]: Arab sailors discovered it, but they never settled it. [SPEAKER_01]: But my favorite thing is it was colonized by the Dutch first, then the French and then the British, which if you know anything about history, that's not a great combo. [SPEAKER_01]: Fun piece though, is that the Dutch colonized it and had to abandon it because the monkeys there made it so they couldn't turn a profit. [SPEAKER_01]: They kept stealing everything and breaking everything they built. [SPEAKER_01]: So every time they tried to do anything, they failed. [SPEAKER_01]: So go capashan monkeys. [SPEAKER_01]: But the island's probably most famous for the Dodo bird, that's where it was, which to be fair was an unintelligent flightless bird that got haunted to extinction. [SPEAKER_01]: Look, there's better examples of mankind doing horrible things. [SPEAKER_01]: Cool thing though is the island ended up being modern cool thing. [SPEAKER_01]: horrible history thing is it's a blending pot the island it's got cool cultural fascination because it was a staging point for the slave trade for both african and Asian slaves or is the brits like to call them indentured servants heavy air quotes there but there's a real cool legacy there fusion so it's a nice culture both food and type of society so yeah if you can handle the extremely long flight unless you're an [SPEAKER_01]: can't be awesome going over all the tickets right after yeah you can also go to discord to probably have a lot of comments about all if you're a fan of nightlers but all this stuff I'm about to do for two guests but more importantly you can come to our discord and meet other people who really do like Warhammer 40k people who like the lower like the books with 11th edition launching people are looking for advice on that really great place to interact good community [SPEAKER_00]: just basically everybody that's in the hobby that is interest common interest. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we have a lot of different channels that change also, but with that let's get into Brad's word obsession with child murder. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: So since we started this podcast, Brad is a bothering me nonstop about how we want to play by night lords specifically Connor. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, always all being able to have it now. [SPEAKER_01]: He likes to sell Amanda's because they're the good guys. [SPEAKER_01]: And he loves Conrad, who murders children. [SPEAKER_01]: I can't figure this out. [SPEAKER_01]: He got to have a dichotomy. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm an eclectic man in my legs. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Conrad's a bad person, like really bad person. [SPEAKER_00]: And a crazy person. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, good. [SPEAKER_01]: Great. [SPEAKER_01]: Way to go too for two on that. [SPEAKER_01]: I like Gilliman. [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, for... Eighth Legion. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I know, but no, he doesn't do murder children with his hands. [SPEAKER_00]: I was specifically with his hands. [SPEAKER_01]: You're like, you have a lot of bombs. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, Gilman's killed a lot of children. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying he hasn't, but he hasn't looked them in the eye, revel in it. [SPEAKER_01]: But. [SPEAKER_01]: like all legions, eight legions were created by the emperor with a purpose in mind. [SPEAKER_01]: And like all the legions except for the 13th, that leap purpose was messed up, because some legions are more perfect than others. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, before they got Conrad at the night honor. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, we're going to go into this in a second, but man, the Emperor basically had a board up of what he wanted to do with the legions, and who the 8th legion was like horribly punished anybody that affronted you, it [SPEAKER_00]: He didn't do anything that helped the Crusade in this beginning. [SPEAKER_00]: They were just there to my God. [SPEAKER_00]: Did you say some bad shit about the Emperor? [SPEAKER_00]: Well, the 8th is wants to talk to you and everyone that's ever known you. [SPEAKER_00]: They Kaiser Soze, multiple people, multiple lines. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about it. [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, you guys are so sorry. [SPEAKER_00]: We get 100% fits. [SPEAKER_00]: That's not it. [SPEAKER_00]: It does. [SPEAKER_00]: How did the Kaiser so say somebody? [SPEAKER_00]: Because Kaiser so say if you didn't like you, you're confronted to Kaiser so say he would goes down it. [SPEAKER_00]: He would kill your family, your friends, anyone that owed you money, he would basically kill everything that had anything to do with you, and [SPEAKER_01]: This is what the 8th Legion did to Pino that's what the Raven that's what the Raven card did with this legions guys But this legion did was they took you outside and cut your skin off and hung it from the rafters. [SPEAKER_00]: They also kill everybody that they're you This is blood draw cool. [SPEAKER_00]: They did exactly what I just said with a bonus step. [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you very much I think this is blood draw cool. [SPEAKER_01]: This is not little block. [SPEAKER_00]: What they still just did what I said [SPEAKER_00]: Or did it to it in a few with the old crimson boys, because They didn't exist anymore. [SPEAKER_00]: No, did they get an example of you? [SPEAKER_01]: Was it subtle? [SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: All right, but let's go into it. [SPEAKER_01]: So the emperor, when he did this, he would draw recruits in different areas. [SPEAKER_01]: And the emperor, Malkador, and Valdoor, and whatever that scientist was called, had this plan. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and they all over her every time. [SPEAKER_01]: Well because he was a stupid name her name was she she didn't exist in the board and then they added later and her name was a stardust and I just refused to accept this because it was lazy writing. [SPEAKER_01]: Um, turn that. [SPEAKER_01]: But her to a stardust. [SPEAKER_01]: E. R. D. A. [SPEAKER_01]: Her to a stardust. [SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: No. [SPEAKER_01]: All right, but what they decided was somehow the gene seeds would work better if the people had a certain background. [SPEAKER_01]: And I'll be honest, it didn't occur to me till just now how little sense that made, but we're 133 cests in. [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm just going with it and talking off crap on this thing, let me go. [SPEAKER_01]: But I've all the legions, the eighth came from a bad place, arguably they came from the worst place. [SPEAKER_01]: And not really an argument, well, they just did two worst places. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, the worst, the eight legion, the eight legion, I'm saying, we're the end of the night lords doubled down on you. [SPEAKER_01]: I would say exactly later they doubled down, but initially the original eight came from the worst one of all the spots on tell 100, they were the worst. [SPEAKER_00]: And if they went and then they found an even sub-year place and made that their recruiting world. [SPEAKER_01]: what I like about this is we've talked a lot before and we make jokes about emperor and not good are being dicks and we don't drive the point home hard enough it's not that they're selfish they are or that they're calis they are or that they're evil they are it's the level they take those two it's well beyond any semblance of like they ain't it's not even and justifies the means they received their to creation they were just [SPEAKER_01]: Because the whole thing were like, they had the world leaders, where they had a legion devoted to the mindless slaughter of any enemies in the Emperor, and that was drawn from anyone who failed the Astarte's HR exam. [SPEAKER_01]: Those guys were taken and they had to make another legion. [SPEAKER_01]: You had the first legion where it's like, hey, go commit genocide, just somewhere in the galaxy and just be quietly. [SPEAKER_01]: those guys were taken. [SPEAKER_01]: We needed another group of terror. [SPEAKER_01]: And by the way, we haven't done Ravenguard yet, which is going to be our next one, spoiler alert. [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to do Ravenguard after this one. [SPEAKER_01]: Ravenguard also come from a horrible place. [SPEAKER_00]: Remember that when they were doing the night loads, they were trying to find people to fill out the terror region. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it wasn't [SPEAKER_01]: And so what do they do? [SPEAKER_01]: Well, simple. [SPEAKER_01]: They saw the movie escape from New York. [SPEAKER_00]: And it's fantastic, by the way. [SPEAKER_01]: Did I stop? [SPEAKER_01]: So this one I do like this sequel, Escape from LA is not very good, but the finale of Captain Ron is amazing. [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not dropping that Captain Ron is the finale of this game from New York series. [SPEAKER_01]: That's just what it is. [SPEAKER_01]: Everyone has to accept that and [SPEAKER_01]: We'll move on with our day. [SPEAKER_01]: So GW ripped off the skate from New York 100%. [SPEAKER_01]: That's what this is just they put it underground. [SPEAKER_01]: All right. [SPEAKER_01]: So after the unification wars on Terra, the emperor decided to build a super prison. [SPEAKER_01]: And building cells is complicated and guards are expensive. [SPEAKER_01]: So screw that and let's side it that with a bunch of under cities. [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, stuff to do. [SPEAKER_01]: No, please. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not enough to do if that's the thing. [SPEAKER_01]: It's not that he had stuff to do in places to go. [SPEAKER_01]: He just decided that cells and guards were too nice and went all how about instead. [SPEAKER_00]: He was too busy building his underground lava layer. [SPEAKER_00]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: So instead, he decides to just use the underground that had basically been collapsed of cities under terror. [SPEAKER_01]: So he gets us also a little bit running man, which is arguably by the way, Schwarzenegger's best film of the 80s that have actual good film of quality. [SPEAKER_01]: Commandos is best film, but like as far as like, oh, the movies he made in the 80s that you watch and like, oh, does this actually have like purpose? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, running man's really good. [SPEAKER_01]: But [SPEAKER_01]: Underneath all of these cities is we call prison six, which were nightmare sounds. [SPEAKER_01]: They were described as having no light as at all, which makes no sense, because humans aren't smiegle. [SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to move on from that. [SPEAKER_01]: And in this cast, we're going to accept the fact there was probably just a little bit. [SPEAKER_00]: I would say no natural light. [SPEAKER_01]: So they were on a ground base. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's what they were having no light. [SPEAKER_01]: That's not that's just not going to work. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they also did that was there was a little bit of chronicles of riddic here, but chronicles of riddic came out after this, so I was like, I just want to make sure I reference all the stuff that GW could have stolen from. [SPEAKER_01]: But anyone who wronged the Imperium were sent down to these hells just to die, like Dr. [SPEAKER_01]: Evil style, but they actually died. [SPEAKER_01]: There were no laser sharks, but they would be down there like, yeah, they will come out of there. [SPEAKER_01]: and because the entire area is roving gangs, there are no resources what is down there you have to steal and kill for. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm assuming everyone is cannibals, you know, that type of setup. [SPEAKER_01]: But not everyone who lived down there had been sent there because people are going to people, children are born within the prison sex and these children were brutal. [SPEAKER_01]: They were raised by the murder gangs to become the greatest killers in the prison sex. [SPEAKER_01]: They could move with absolute silence. [SPEAKER_01]: They would slaughter their victims. [SPEAKER_01]: They're basically the bogey men of the prison six. [SPEAKER_01]: So, of course, the emperor went down there and kidnapped them and turned them into spacemaries. [SPEAKER_01]: Uh, they were great killers. [SPEAKER_01]: They're doing the good call. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, good, God. [SPEAKER_01]: So this becomes the base of the eighth legion. [SPEAKER_01]: The next bit here. [SPEAKER_00]: I also have to adjust those sense because they would adjust immediately once they get the genes on them. [SPEAKER_01]: So, apparently, everyone being born down there, [SPEAKER_01]: They evolved in one generation, and so that their eyes don't work very well. [SPEAKER_01]: They can't really see it in sunlight, so their eyes hurt, so they're like, Frankenstein's monster, like, mrr, fire, bad, mrr. [SPEAKER_01]: But that's, by the way, in the books, all of the members of the nightlords, they don't like seeing in sunlight, because it hurts their eyes, causing one generation their eyes evolved. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's go, dog, let it go. [SPEAKER_00]: Hold on, now let's talk about why the Emperor needs a legion makeup of your child major surgeries because of his child murder soldiers. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because he needed demand to send a message, a real message. [SPEAKER_00]: You have to think of also we've had multiple legions now that are trying to send a message. [SPEAKER_00]: And this message was, don't talk. [SPEAKER_00]: because there's people that revolted and you sent the world leaders to send a message, the original nightlords to stop people that were basically doing the most tiny of grievances. [SPEAKER_01]: So challenge effective in the Emperor had is most of Tera for millennia now, or like their viewpoints like warlords come warlords go. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so they live one before, [SPEAKER_01]: In the end, personally, warlords. [SPEAKER_01]: So their viewpoint is like, ah, yeah, I've been the need of this guy, but I'm just going to keep doing my thing over here. [SPEAKER_01]: And because they assume someone's going to kill him and then they just go back to what they're doing before, others bend the knee and try to kill the emperor. [SPEAKER_01]: There's lots of different levels to these people. [SPEAKER_01]: And so the problem the emperor has, you can't just keep reconquering them over and over again, because eventually it just gets boring and you're in a space. [SPEAKER_01]: So he had to to Brad's point send a message and there's levels of message sending to the honest, there's no reason for any of this, but we'll go through one because why not? [SPEAKER_01]: Because all they do with by the way, all these guys is just another example. [SPEAKER_01]: So crimson walkers. [SPEAKER_01]: Crimson walkers are an effect, psionic, power, humanculine, necromancers. [SPEAKER_01]: It's the best way to explain. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, they were trying to keep everything of it. [SPEAKER_00]: They were trying to keep all the mojo life from before before the unification came. [SPEAKER_01]: So they're trying to do, well, it's, when you say mojo, it's going to the, what the mojo was, they were humanculine necromancers. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: That wanted to do their whole warlord thing. [SPEAKER_00]: I called it mojo, you call it necromanic, or if it could study's blood. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what these guys were doing is they were using, it's not written as powers. [SPEAKER_01]: The warp, it's kind of implied to merge bodies together to make super mutants that were kind of made of dead bodies. [SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, the emperor knew that that was bad because he knew that that was probably coming [SPEAKER_01]: at least, what if not two gods? [SPEAKER_01]: God's the Emperor had spoken to directly, like, you know, a millennia so ago. [SPEAKER_01]: So when the Emperor had encountered the crimson walkers during the Unification Wars, he was like, yeah, those all, those all die now. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, but a couple of times we were called the forbidden ways of the old night with you at the beginning. [SPEAKER_00]: So he just, he wasn't exactly a big fan of this. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but a couple of the guys escaped and were taken in by Warlords who had bent the knee because their viewpoint was [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, these guys are pretty powerful. [SPEAKER_01]: And when this new King Warlord goes away, I like to have me some crimson walkers around. [SPEAKER_01]: Eventually, the emperor discovers one of the big groups. [SPEAKER_01]: And they've actually, they've gotten a little uppity and they built quite a lot of these super mutants. [SPEAKER_01]: Do you stop guys, basically? [SPEAKER_01]: Dead guys. [SPEAKER_01]: And the emperor decides send the eighth legion. [SPEAKER_01]: So they do. [SPEAKER_01]: And they decide to kill the crimson walkers and anyone in everyone associates with them. [SPEAKER_00]: Emperor wants to send a message because he doesn't want to have to come back here. [SPEAKER_00]: But one of the biggest things about this, and it makes sense in a terrible way, the Emperor doesn't want to have to keep a re-conquering like we just said. [SPEAKER_00]: The Emperor wants to move forward. [SPEAKER_00]: He wants to push the crusade. [SPEAKER_00]: So he wants to drop the, I don't want to have to come back here, message, and he does. [SPEAKER_00]: Because the aid [SPEAKER_01]: everyone and I mean everyone I'm pretty sure no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no [SPEAKER_01]: but they actually somehow block out the, what's left of the white app night. [SPEAKER_01]: And this, the crimson, these guys are forever is during the Pacific, where where the Pacific used to be. [SPEAKER_01]: And they've built their entire cities on cliff edges from, I guess, Mary, where the Mary and a trench was, because don't forget there is no oceans anymore. [SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of down. [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, by the way, it doesn't work like that. [SPEAKER_01]: They're worth what have collapsed. [SPEAKER_01]: Side note, but the entire civilization lives in these cities that are one main city that's built into a cliff edge. [SPEAKER_01]: So the attack comes from above. [SPEAKER_01]: All this bombardment from above comes in, followed by an oil like they described like the chemical rain comes down from above, but then [SPEAKER_01]: the night lords come from below on jet packs and shoot up. [SPEAKER_01]: So as soon as they land, the crimson hunters send out, or the walkers send out their mutants and the mutants come rushing out and they're known, they have like boxes for faces, it's this whole thing, and just get slaughtered. [SPEAKER_01]: I agree. [SPEAKER_00]: To be honest, they look like Grots, which I do think they had technology from that. [SPEAKER_01]: That's possible. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they just get to the model. [SPEAKER_00]: They just smoke, but they start me again, but they can example. [SPEAKER_01]: They get smoked, but not smoke, because it's smoke, they don't get killed quickly. [SPEAKER_01]: They get largely disabled. [SPEAKER_01]: and the nightzards begin basically using their lightning claws like chop their legs off so that they're lying there and then they drag them alive to the edge of the cliff and then throw them into the chasm in full view of everyone and they continue this process until eventually basically all of the warriors are gone and then the nightlords leave. [SPEAKER_01]: And then as they leave, they detonate the explosives that they've been planting, underneath the entire civilization, forcing the entire city to fall into the abyss. [SPEAKER_01]: What? [SPEAKER_01]: Because that's what they did. [SPEAKER_00]: You did skip a part because they did murder a bunch of civilians before they'd set up these parts. [SPEAKER_01]: Well, anyone who's outside, because they made it a point, because you're like any civilian who tried to flee, they would slaughter them. [SPEAKER_01]: So they got what you kept all the civilians in this place. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, they hurried everybody inside. [SPEAKER_00]: And they killed them in such a way that no one else wanted to flee because it was they were doing. [SPEAKER_00]: And that's the one of the big things is they were. [SPEAKER_00]: sending the terror message of, you can't go anywhere. [SPEAKER_00]: There's nothing you can do just accept it move on and that happened. [SPEAKER_00]: So there was a lot of fighting behind Mary and Ted who were the two people that cleaned the night, they got pretty wrecked when they tried to make a [SPEAKER_01]: The 8th Legion then from there on, they take a little bit of a part within their early stages of the Great Crusade, not much. [SPEAKER_01]: They're kind of a side part. [SPEAKER_01]: They get utilized a lot more in the way that the world leaders were originally used. [SPEAKER_01]: They're not used a full Legion. [SPEAKER_01]: They're used in pieces here and there. [SPEAKER_01]: Horace has had some use for them here and there. [SPEAKER_01]: They're also putty quite in it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was just kind of like a little bit to think that they were actually this level of terror [SPEAKER_01]: Conrad joins. [SPEAKER_01]: And so let's talk about Conrad, because this story sucks. [SPEAKER_00]: It's awesome. [SPEAKER_00]: I think you meant to say you've been really messing your words up here. [SPEAKER_01]: It's awful. [SPEAKER_01]: We'll be right back after a quick break. [SPEAKER_01]: All right. [SPEAKER_01]: So galaxy sucks. [SPEAKER_01]: No stramo. [SPEAKER_01]: No stramo really sucks. [SPEAKER_01]: No stramo is a high world. [SPEAKER_01]: that exists on the very edge of the ultimate segment of about two o'clock to the extreme from the extreme center of galaxy refuse the east east north north we're so I'm going to keep find a different ways to do it but actually Google different ways to tell direction so I could do two o'clock [SPEAKER_01]: It's out in the starboard side, as far as it's starboard in bow, starboard, of the galaxy, but no staramos sucks, like real sucks. [SPEAKER_01]: It sits on the edge of the ghoul star. [SPEAKER_01]: So it's this isn't which is by the name of that because they're fun. [SPEAKER_01]: And no staramos survives the dark age of technology, but not in a good way. [SPEAKER_01]: It's part of a group of systems that had managed to maintain travel [SPEAKER_01]: did the opposite with it. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, in no stromo, let's talk about this because first off, they have your favorite thing that's all over the entire galaxy apparently. [SPEAKER_00]: They might add a mania for what? [SPEAKER_01]: This is stupid part number one. [SPEAKER_01]: How do they, why are they able to mine at a man team, Brad? [SPEAKER_01]: Because they're awesome, you know, because their entire planet is made of the adamantium. [SPEAKER_01]: I know, so that makes no sense. [SPEAKER_01]: The planet is Wolverine. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the planets Wolverine, they decide that ruling class, which is effectively crazy crime Lawrence effect. [SPEAKER_01]: How do you mind the hardest thing? [SPEAKER_01]: This makes no sense. [SPEAKER_00]: But whatever. [SPEAKER_00]: Look, they [SPEAKER_00]: but they make the entire planet into a mine slash forge slash smelting place and it completely devastates the atmosphere. [SPEAKER_00]: There is zero light that can come natural light can come through and it's just dark clouds. [SPEAKER_01]: Now that you've helped by the fact that the planet orbits a dying sun. [SPEAKER_01]: So, it, yes, it sucks. [SPEAKER_01]: They do the opposite of what they did in Macreg, though, because on Macreg, they had a similar thing. [SPEAKER_01]: Macreg had a bunch of very wealthy planets. [SPEAKER_01]: They were able to use it. [SPEAKER_01]: They were able to build an economy. [SPEAKER_01]: There was trade. [SPEAKER_01]: And it was a rising tide. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there were some people who got screwed up in Macreg. [SPEAKER_01]: I love watching that. [SPEAKER_01]: Had to bring your little submarines into the cast about the time. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm going to. [SPEAKER_01]: But on most, no drama, of course, there's just a nobility class who go, yeah, that's all mine. [SPEAKER_01]: And what happened is the nobility on Ostramo decide, well, I don't want to get stabbed in the back, beat by, you know, that's all working class. [SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, we're going to do, we're going to turn everything into basically a nightmare zone by allowing gangs of New York. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's what it is. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they just, they put the populist down in crazy ways that are just terrorizing, [SPEAKER_00]: They come, they come, they come, they're kind loads. [SPEAKER_00]: They're 40k crime loads, which are, they become oligarchs basically. [SPEAKER_00]: They're crime, they rule. [SPEAKER_00]: And there's multiple hive cities on this planet. [SPEAKER_00]: So you're huge, the populace here is gigantic. [SPEAKER_00]: And they want to keep them down. [SPEAKER_00]: And they do that by being, no, but just the worst. [SPEAKER_00]: They do crazy things to the populace. [SPEAKER_01]: They just, everyone has, you know, that's what it's getting to New York. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's what this is. [SPEAKER_01]: I also do like that the populists also evolved to have bleach white skin. [SPEAKER_01]: They're all heavy heavily out by node, which I guess could happen. [SPEAKER_01]: It wouldn't a thousand years. [SPEAKER_01]: It would not, but my favorite one is they don't have viruses in their eyes. [SPEAKER_01]: The eyes are all black. [SPEAKER_00]: That's just not how that works. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not, but that's just not how that works. [SPEAKER_00]: The idea is, I had an Irish, you would just give it to somebody who would lay the candle and your peace would blow up. [SPEAKER_01]: That's a whole idea. [SPEAKER_01]: They don't have irises, and this is like, I understand what they were getting at. [SPEAKER_01]: There's not a lot of light there. [SPEAKER_01]: So you wouldn't need an irise, except you still do. [SPEAKER_01]: Your irise does move even in low light. [SPEAKER_01]: That's not how it got damn works. [SPEAKER_01]: just why? [SPEAKER_01]: Why? [SPEAKER_01]: There's no reason to even put this in. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just so objectively wrong, so quickly. [SPEAKER_01]: There's no need for this. [SPEAKER_01]: I come on. [SPEAKER_01]: Come on. [SPEAKER_01]: Say things like they don't have hair. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [SPEAKER_01]: Why not? [SPEAKER_01]: Every single member has alopecia. [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. [UNKNOWN]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: It's such a random But it's like I feel like we should break for a drug ad right here. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't whatever [SPEAKER_01]: Uh, but as we said before, the chaos gods and the kidnapped all the primarks, they wanted to tempt them to fall to chaos in one way or another. [SPEAKER_01]: Some of them, they tempted with like grandeur. [SPEAKER_01]: So, saying, when he is dorn and guilliman, they tempted with, hey, you are a great leader. [SPEAKER_01]: And so that is when you meet the emperor, he's really not. [SPEAKER_01]: So, why don't you be in charge? [SPEAKER_01]: I guess, you know, the horrors to a point. [SPEAKER_01]: others, it was more nobility. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like Vulcan and Russ. [SPEAKER_01]: The idea was to show them the flaws of the Emperor. [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, you're a better human being than he is. [SPEAKER_00]: And in a hold on apparently, some of them, they just decided we don't have a close call. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they just let's throw you into nightmare [SPEAKER_01]: I said I named five. [SPEAKER_01]: We don't two of them are redacted. [SPEAKER_01]: We'll go with Alfarius's question mark. [SPEAKER_01]: So we'll go with something to eat. [SPEAKER_01]: There are many 12 bad things. [SPEAKER_01]: Just bad bad bad bad bad bad bad things. [SPEAKER_01]: And curves got. [SPEAKER_01]: bad thing. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, come on. [SPEAKER_00]: He's arguably the worst place. [SPEAKER_01]: It's him. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what we do. [SPEAKER_01]: Peter Robo is actually interesting. [SPEAKER_01]: I will. [SPEAKER_01]: I Peter Robo's ones really messed up, man. [SPEAKER_00]: Also nice, but like the night hunter. [SPEAKER_00]: First off, he apparently either had his pod float on molten lava or he did the breaststroke. [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm in my advantage. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to jump on this now. [SPEAKER_01]: I actually don't think [SPEAKER_01]: And I just didn't step up. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, other ones just stepped up. [SPEAKER_01]: Girls was like, what else? [SPEAKER_00]: I'm pleased to go over the planet. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but it didn't fix it. [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, so girls' pod hits no drama like a meteor. [SPEAKER_01]: It's going so hot and so fast that it actually pierces through the core of Adam and Tim, of course. [SPEAKER_01]: And the locals find a hole going through the core of the planet. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's not good. [SPEAKER_01]: Probably not covered over with this. [SPEAKER_01]: They just put up manhole cover over it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, right. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're out there. [SPEAKER_01]: Whereas, which means that so he no one saves him and he must have somehow crawled his way back up, which means he may have at one point been in the molten core of the planet just swimming around. [SPEAKER_01]: We don't know. [SPEAKER_00]: He's the only one that didn't get adopted, taken in by anybody. [SPEAKER_00]: You know, group, it's just kind of bad by himself. [SPEAKER_00]: You're just hanging out. [SPEAKER_00]: So we kind of make this into the lower levels of it. [SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, this is terrible. [SPEAKER_00]: What's freaking awful for him. [SPEAKER_00]: But it's also super awful for anyone around him because [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not going to let you get around away from this. [SPEAKER_00]: He immediately has this, he's a psycho. [SPEAKER_00]: Don't get me wrong. [SPEAKER_00]: But he also has this weird, war justice thing. [SPEAKER_00]: So when he sees people do something wrong, he goes bananas overboard. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, doesn't matter if it was you. [SPEAKER_01]: He walking, you're skipping a step. [SPEAKER_01]: he first murdered a bunch of people when he came up in in the lower levels. [SPEAKER_01]: That's the first thing he does not cause anything wrong because he's a psychopath. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I didn't set one was starts killing people. [SPEAKER_01]: I said then later so he starts justifying his murder through that guy looked at me funny. [SPEAKER_01]: That is not the other way. [SPEAKER_00]: You were it is not just that happens to him. [SPEAKER_00]: It's not the only way. [SPEAKER_00]: But it is one of them. [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it is. [SPEAKER_00]: But he starts legitimately going you commit your committing crimes. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm ending those crimes. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So you could be minors. [SPEAKER_01]: You could spider-man style where he'd like capture them and hand them over to the police. [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, not exactly. [SPEAKER_00]: No, not really, uh, with more with it more. [SPEAKER_00]: He was more like he peeled all your skin off and hung somewhere and hung the skin up. [SPEAKER_00]: That's he hung you up and show basically let you see your skin. [SPEAKER_00]: That's actually something he did quite a bit. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: So what happens is he starts doing this, which then brings the attention on a Mad Max Fury Road style, or yes, it's more the professional decide to go try and put this down. [SPEAKER_01]: And, uh, within a year, there is no crime and no [SPEAKER_00]: You have to, well, he started with his high, his high city first. [SPEAKER_00]: So they start setting people after him and he does the world's wildest game of high and sea cat miles and just starts sending back. [SPEAKER_00]: everybody they sent to kill him and he sends them back to the people that paid for them. [SPEAKER_00]: And then starts working his ways up of, hey, if you commit a crime, I'm going to do some wild event horizon to you and it's not going to be great. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so within a year, there's no crime on the Strommel. [SPEAKER_01]: So at this point, people like Brad are like, wow, Conrad's awesome. [SPEAKER_01]: Here's the problem. [SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't actually fix the Strommel. [SPEAKER_01]: He just makes the crime go away. [SPEAKER_01]: He's elected the De facto dictator. [SPEAKER_01]: He's nicknamed the Knight Hunter. [SPEAKER_00]: He's the De facto Hitler. [SPEAKER_00]: Because he's the monarch of the king. [SPEAKER_00]: He actually became a vucking. [SPEAKER_00]: But he's not in charge. [SPEAKER_00]: No, he just, well, he, he finds out, oh, yeah, they've got a bunch of books and iPads and I'm going to learn everything about everything. [SPEAKER_00]: And he kind of ignores everyone unless someone tells him someone committed a crime and then instead of getting, yep, he, basically, he made no police and then anything did he? [SPEAKER_00]: Nothing. [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, first this is goes to wherever he was told the crime is. [SPEAKER_00]: And just wrecks those people and goes, if anyone else commits a crime, also what is he doing to these people that worldwide, you're like, you're in New York and you hear about somebody in Bangladesh that did something and you're like, yeah, man, I'm just not going to commit crimes because I don't want that to happen to me, I get massive kick out of this because people are like, oh, he's like, [SPEAKER_01]: Batman. [SPEAKER_01]: He's like the Punisher. [SPEAKER_01]: No, he's carnage or bane. [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe Venom early Venom early. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, before he gets control of it. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's what it's like. [SPEAKER_01]: Someone did something. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to pull them whim from whim. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, but like, he does his liver. [SPEAKER_00]: Lymph or limb is nothing. [SPEAKER_00]: Hold on. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to get the body Python. [SPEAKER_00]: We haven't had a reference yet. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, luxury. [SPEAKER_00]: And luxury. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's true. [SPEAKER_01]: It is. [SPEAKER_01]: But I get kick out of this because what's funny to me about it is like, he doesn't do anything to help the like he sits or he eliminates all crime. [SPEAKER_01]: Something no other prime mark does by the way. [SPEAKER_01]: All of the prime marks still had crime on their planet. [SPEAKER_01]: He's the only one to eliminate crime, but every other, probably, or that, everyone, most other primarks and like, and then I improved manufacturing. [SPEAKER_01]: I put in a police system. [SPEAKER_01]: There was a, there was a functioning government. [SPEAKER_01]: He didn't do any of that. [SPEAKER_00]: He just was, are they talking about the fact that he had primarck wisdom, any. [SPEAKER_00]: solve some problems, but then he would immediately go murder something. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's vengeance was wild, but again, he's still a primer. [SPEAKER_00]: He's still a genius, even though he will blend in as nuts. [SPEAKER_01]: All I'm saying is that what happened was no drama later. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like weird, so there was no infrastructure. [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, he did learn a lot though. [SPEAKER_01]: He did. [SPEAKER_00]: So let's talk about one of the other problems, of course, is he's nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts, nuts [SPEAKER_00]: going on. [SPEAKER_00]: It's no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, [SPEAKER_00]: that will mess you up. [SPEAKER_00]: Also, he started off, oh yeah, I'm already crazy. [SPEAKER_00]: Let's add all these other things. [SPEAKER_00]: Hey, were you by it was any other of the primarx 100% alone? [SPEAKER_00]: You will get messed up, man. [SPEAKER_00]: Like that happens to regular people, let alone, super power and crazy. [SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't alone. [SPEAKER_00]: He was alone. [SPEAKER_00]: He wasn't alone later. [SPEAKER_01]: He chose to stay alone. [SPEAKER_00]: Now, he was, oh, I said he started alone. [SPEAKER_01]: So did Mortarion. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Mortarion found his prok also. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and the Jerry was legit. [SPEAKER_01]: And then Mortarion met people and what I should talk to them. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, even though I'm terrifying looking just calling it out Calling it out. [SPEAKER_01]: Conrad though the real pro conrad though is that he was nuts. [SPEAKER_01]: Is that he there's a pretty good conrad was a pretty cog. [SPEAKER_01]: He could see the future But not correctly. [SPEAKER_01]: Well he could see clearly he couldn't see all the he saw us very small piece of it. [SPEAKER_01]: It's like if your TV was broken and I could see was like the upper right corner of it [SPEAKER_00]: So he gets the powerful flashes to he doesn't get the I'm he's doing the Jedi Meditation stuff. [SPEAKER_00]: You don't need to be in figuring you know he'd be walking down the street and he gets effectively a seizure something I know. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but then he goes into some of your good at this point. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm in the best But he would get these horrific you think we're showing blood clots. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah [SPEAKER_00]: The crew is they talk about it because he talks about it and he's novel and other things. [SPEAKER_00]: He would get these just flashes, these he got visions that were terrifying and that's how he saw things and it was the future but it was also a broken vision of awful every tiny head of it. [SPEAKER_01]: The main thing about curses visions though is they are rudely powerful. [SPEAKER_01]: Like when they hit, it's not, when we talk about pre-cog, it's not like he kind of sees something and he thinks about it, which of them dream. [SPEAKER_01]: It's more like he's having night terrors, but he's a weak. [SPEAKER_01]: They flash into his brain and they overwhelm him. [SPEAKER_00]: And he feels like he experiences. [SPEAKER_00]: That's the big thing for him. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it is. [SPEAKER_00]: It's just a vision. [SPEAKER_00]: He gets a, yeah, I live through this. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and he goes into fits of rage as a result of them, because the pain and the suffering is all real, which doesn't help him make friends. [SPEAKER_00]: It's gonna be, also, he's weird. [SPEAKER_00]: I have to, I mean, I like him, but he's weird. [SPEAKER_00]: Like everyone that needs him goes every, every, I wouldn't like him ever, ever see him ever again. [SPEAKER_01]: Every image of him is like, oh, oh. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, every primer that needs him goes, yeah, let's never talk to him again. [SPEAKER_00]: Cool. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: Are we all in agreement that we don't want to, by the way, not help by the fact that every time he meets a primer, he sees their death. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. [SPEAKER_01]: Or their fall to chaos. [SPEAKER_01]: And takes everything about it. [SPEAKER_01]: Not every time. [SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't tell all of them by the way. [SPEAKER_01]: Not a couple of them. [SPEAKER_01]: He does. [SPEAKER_01]: And then he stops doing it because they get really bad. [SPEAKER_01]: That's the key point of the game and is there any way you could not ever get to not do that, it's weird. [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, although the interesting one is this is fullgrams actually one of the more interesting ones is the vision of fullgrams the most opaque of all of them. [SPEAKER_01]: But some of them just like, oh, yeah, I know exactly how you die. [SPEAKER_00]: Say also kind of cool. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, also he member, I tell you, he lives through them. [SPEAKER_00]: He also sees his own death. [SPEAKER_01]: Sover, and over and he, well, this way actually happens is, well, actually, he sees his own death later, though. [SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't see it until the emperor arrives. [SPEAKER_01]: And that's what's funny about this is that his pre-cog is influenced by the stuff around him and what's occurring. [SPEAKER_00]: Also he is, oh, it's horrible. [SPEAKER_00]: He's so nuts. [SPEAKER_00]: That's I think that's why I think he's interesting No, because he's a crazy villain, but also ever being a doucheous usual. [SPEAKER_00]: Hey, my son, you are clearly broken. [SPEAKER_00]: I could definitely help. [SPEAKER_01]: I am the most powerful psycher in the galaxy, but instead Ah, not to do the emperors arrival in those drama is hilarious and so many levels. [SPEAKER_01]: So first off [SPEAKER_01]: Nostromo has had a very long prophecy about the arrival of a glowing golden man being the doom of their planet. [SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, one day a glowing golden man arrives. [SPEAKER_01]: And remember how we've always talked about how when the emperor arrives, he likes to appear in the way that he thinks people with most want to see him. [SPEAKER_00]: Except for these guys, who he literally goes, you have been prophesized. [SPEAKER_00]: This is going to prophesy for so long that basically I would show up in with my most common visage and instead of doing that, [SPEAKER_01]: Either I show up to a group of people who have no irises still not cool with that, by the way, but have no ability to see bright lights, and he shows up like the brightest LED ever made, and blinds everyone who sees him, for some reason, and just what's wandering down as this like I don't know, sun walking down the street. [SPEAKER_00]: chill walk through the market. [SPEAKER_01]: This is the only walk. [SPEAKER_01]: You can just zoom with a bunch of custos so the light can reflect off them. [SPEAKER_01]: So just bouncing around and just blinding even more people because he's just a dick. [SPEAKER_01]: And he looks through it everybody. [SPEAKER_01]: Eventually, Conrad comes walking up. [SPEAKER_01]: And the emperor, the whole quote here is hilarious, just be at peace, Conrad Curse. [SPEAKER_01]: I have arrived and intended to take you home. [SPEAKER_01]: And kind of looks at him and goes, that's not my name, Father. [SPEAKER_01]: My people gave me a name. [SPEAKER_01]: I will bear it until my dying day. [SPEAKER_01]: And I know full well what you intend for me. [SPEAKER_01]: And then that only leaves with the emperor. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're just code for like, yeah, I know you, and because he, at this point, he had his vision that the emperor's going to kill him. [SPEAKER_01]: So great. [SPEAKER_01]: Awesome. [SPEAKER_00]: And he had a lot of great. [SPEAKER_00]: He was supposed to be an instrument of terror. [SPEAKER_00]: And then he felt like this is just his destiny because this is what he did on his home planet. [SPEAKER_00]: And this is what he apparently was doing forever. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: What's interesting about this, well, interesting air quotes, Conrad is handed over to Fulgram, because at this point, Fulgram's one of the Emperor's favorites. [SPEAKER_01]: Don't forget, this is when they are. [SPEAKER_01]: Fulgrams are basically perfect. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I was just saying they're going for full perfection. [SPEAKER_00]: And he hands him over to Fulgram to teach him the ways of the Imperian. [SPEAKER_00]: warfare, but not just warfare, it's just how the appearing works. [SPEAKER_00]: He, because yeah, Fengram's a learned scholar of this. [SPEAKER_00]: He's also his planet radius fantastic at this point in time, too. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, very much. [SPEAKER_00]: So I was back into. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: So he gives him over to him and says, [SPEAKER_00]: basically learn all about everything, the culture, the history of the imperium, but the how we do warfare, but also how we are the how the crusade works. [SPEAKER_00]: We conquer worlds. [SPEAKER_00]: We make them better. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm doing huge air quotes by the way here. [SPEAKER_00]: Make them better and put them aligned. [SPEAKER_01]: That part of the Conrad picked up on. [SPEAKER_01]: I'll be honest with you. [SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely not. [SPEAKER_00]: You totally missed it on, but I'll say he doesn't need him that he could have skipped it. [SPEAKER_00]: The emperor, if you were, if he had a bunch of modules that he was supposed to complete, he wouldn't have been told by the emperor, you can skip those and move on. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, the HR training platform wasn't. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, he was like, he just leans over and goes, that's cool. [SPEAKER_01]: You can skip it and you can skip that one. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to be using you in any of those ways. [SPEAKER_01]: What they're doing is that Conrad this time was really interested in reading all that I could about Terra, culture, the history of Terra, and my opinion on that is because he's trying to figure out his visions. [SPEAKER_01]: He's trying to understand what are my bits, remember they're not complete, he's getting pieces of this and that, so he's trying to piece together what he's seeing. [SPEAKER_01]: So he's really obsessed about reading about terror all while philgrams like this is how war goes and kind of it's like, yeah, okay, I genuinely don't care. [SPEAKER_01]: But I'm going to do it my way. [SPEAKER_01]: And advantage, because eventually Conrad is handed to the eighth legion and that is both good and bad. [SPEAKER_01]: because what he does with them, who, boy, Conrad decides to just mold the legion to make them all the nighthunter he was on Ostrama. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, focusing, really not on defying the enemy, but setting an example. [SPEAKER_01]: And I want to make this very different from world leaders. [SPEAKER_01]: The world leaders could be taught by Slith. [SPEAKER_01]: They're all everything's like we're going to set an example. [SPEAKER_01]: The world leaders were butchers. [SPEAKER_01]: The world leaders descend on a planet, slaughter everything, and leave. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they made a pile of bodies to turn into a ramp to run out of the ramps and kill things we could do. [SPEAKER_01]: Because that was funny. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's what they do. [SPEAKER_01]: But they are chain acts part of time. [SPEAKER_01]: That is world leaders. [SPEAKER_01]: The night lords are terror. [SPEAKER_01]: They are so much worse for a populous. [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, 100%. [SPEAKER_00]: because they don't care about cattle leaders we're going against the people that would actually fight against them. [SPEAKER_00]: They're trying to topple the Lord. [SPEAKER_00]: They're trying to kill the army. [SPEAKER_00]: The nine lords would show up and one of my favorites, once they, this is more when they turned a cast, but they still do this when they were at the loyal, was they would tell you. [SPEAKER_00]: They would have a [SPEAKER_00]: Project all over the planet, screaming and everything else, and telling you all the f*** they were going to do to you, and then they would come down and flee people alive and pale on spikes. [SPEAKER_00]: But there's some to the populist, not just the fighting forces. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, if you want to read the car carried on novel, the first car carried on novels and very good coverage of modern nightlords, I'm jumping obviously in Q chaos nightlords, but it's a very good coverage of modern nightlords, but which also plays this era. [SPEAKER_01]: But the main difference I would say between world leaders and nightlords is world leaders will kill the civilian population, but they kill the civilian population because the [SPEAKER_01]: And they start killing that civilian population to then get the condensant to come out out of the wall and fight them. [SPEAKER_01]: The nightlords, even if the military population was outside the wall, are still their killer civilians. [SPEAKER_01]: They're going to target us civilians that they're going intentionally go after them. [SPEAKER_01]: Because what the nightlords actually are trying to do is get a lot of them. [SPEAKER_01]: The civilian population to rise up against the leadership of, because they're more afraid of the nightlords. [SPEAKER_01]: than the military leaders, you sure. [SPEAKER_00]: This actually really, really bad. [SPEAKER_00]: They're, their numbers actually suffered wildly and during the reunion, did a crusade because of the fact that it took them longer to conquer a lot of worlds, because the population was like, yeah, man, screw this or we're gonna get burned, skinned alive and pale. [SPEAKER_00]: We got, I guess we fight, we can't win, but screw this. [SPEAKER_01]: because that's the thing that when it worked, it worked. [SPEAKER_01]: The populace would rise up and kill the leaders, but when it doesn't work, now it's the whole pop of his now in militia. [SPEAKER_01]: We're not, this is a nightmare, so. [SPEAKER_01]: The same time, Conrad also did some weird stuff. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, he told him to make their armor more scary. [SPEAKER_01]: And so the two things that I don't like about nightlords, like, really don't like, there's only two things. [SPEAKER_01]: But no, no, because from a nightlord, this is from usually I like how, [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's a model in 40K. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't like beaks, but I don't hate beaks. [SPEAKER_01]: It's just, if some people are beaks, some people are not beaks. [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not beaks. [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, one, why their jump packs have bat wings. [SPEAKER_01]: Don't like it. [SPEAKER_01]: Look stupid, calling it out. [SPEAKER_01]: Other one though is they paint scary stuff on their armor. [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, that's candid. [SPEAKER_01]: They paint like what? [SPEAKER_01]: A ghost? [SPEAKER_01]: Right, what are they painting on their armor? [SPEAKER_01]: Ooh, we're spooky. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't understand how that works. [SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, like you are a eight foot nine foot in power armor, right? [SPEAKER_01]: With a power claw and a bolter, but I'm going to make it scary by what? [SPEAKER_01]: I painted a mural on the front of me. [SPEAKER_01]: I hired Banksy. [SPEAKER_01]: You know, what is it I did here to make this a scarier thing than what you already are? [SPEAKER_01]: That's more of my issue with it. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, we are scary murals. [SPEAKER_01]: If I see a nightboard, I'm dying. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't need it to have a scary mural on your chest plate. [SPEAKER_00]: That's all. [SPEAKER_00]: Let me tell you. [SPEAKER_00]: Well, let's talk about the new recruits. [SPEAKER_01]: And I want to talk a little bit about, yeah, let's close out on his, let me hear. [SPEAKER_01]: Let's not how he did on his world. [SPEAKER_01]: So let's close out with the, this isn't the, well, so this is the fall of the, the re-fall of those traumas, not the destruction of those traumas, the re-fall of those traumas, because, [SPEAKER_00]: So I have to agree, I'm going to lean into this one for you. [SPEAKER_00]: I'm trying to defend it because you're so anti. [SPEAKER_00]: But when the 900 left, he had left zero government, anything. [SPEAKER_00]: It was just, yeah, I'm scary and crazy and I'm assuming that as soon as he walked into the ship with the Emperor and started flying away, [SPEAKER_00]: he wasn't even out of sight yet and the rest of the crime loads went. [SPEAKER_00]: So like, like it was before, right guys? [SPEAKER_00]: And they went, yeah, for sure. [SPEAKER_01]: We're going back to the pile, right? [SPEAKER_01]: Yep, back to the pile. [SPEAKER_00]: 100% and the things became instant. [SPEAKER_00]: I really do think that they probably could still see the ship flying away. [SPEAKER_00]: And they're like, oh, so you guys are going to suffer pretty badly because of this. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: And the thing was, is the nightlords, this was their recruiting [SPEAKER_01]: So they sit there watching this world just descend into absolute nightmare hell. [SPEAKER_00]: These, it is pure, it is actually worse than it was before, because all the crime words are like, they're looking for vengeance, they're all climbing over each other, but they're also trying to send a message of, hey, screw this, we'll provide warriors, but [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, more, yeah, you guys are going to have some problems. [SPEAKER_01]: In effect, what happens is, but the nightlords who are left behind do the recruiting, much like you had, is it, are they wolf priests, is that what's called for the space wolves? [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, everyone has this, but there can be the most like, you know, they're almost like chaplain, these guys tend to be a bit loopy. [SPEAKER_01]: So the ones who are left behind do the recruiting, they're not left behind, they'll turn one, the planet, they're just going, oh, I guess, this is what they're almost supposed to be like. [SPEAKER_00]: they just don't even get there. [SPEAKER_00]: They also kind of think it's a good thing because they give you more psychopaths to recruit because of what's happening. [SPEAKER_00]: Also wild foreshadding eventually the night hunter comes back and has um. [SPEAKER_01]: something they say. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he's not a big fan of how this goes. [SPEAKER_01]: But what happens is that night Lawrence, you have the original eighth legion we had converted over. [SPEAKER_01]: When Conrad leaves, he actually does grab a bunch with him and goes, yeah, I don't know, grab all of those children, turn them into space and rings. [SPEAKER_01]: I don't care. [SPEAKER_01]: They come with him as an initial chunk. [SPEAKER_01]: But then, to Brad's point, so he leaves, the planet starts to descend. [SPEAKER_01]: And now, the recruits over time start getting pulled from, because they are all children, from the up and coming child murder section of, and it's so much worse than it was before. [SPEAKER_00]: So these guys were way worse than the originals, and they keep, and they're pushing this, by the way. [SPEAKER_00]: Even before they fell to chaos, I never thought that the night learns fell to chaos. [SPEAKER_00]: I think that the night learns took an adjacent step to chaos. [SPEAKER_01]: There's like, what's inside? [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, trying to work. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so keep doing the things we were doing. [SPEAKER_01]: Got it. [SPEAKER_01]: they were always doing and we're getting care packages from chaos, all of a sudden, that's how it basically worked out. [SPEAKER_01]: But when it's happening, though, as this new, the business matters, is you've got this new group of recruits who start to fill out their ranks, and they are nuts. [SPEAKER_01]: Because the thing about the gene seed is we can put the gene seed in, even the gene seed will, it'll change your makeup of your bio-chino-the-play won't change your mind. [SPEAKER_01]: These are crazy people. [SPEAKER_01]: And what happens is the Legion starts to become more and more violent. [SPEAKER_01]: When Conrad first joins the Legion and he brings his night haunt or stuff, the idea to Brad's point is, I will bring exceptional violence and exceptional things to anyone who wrongs me or wrongs the emperor. [SPEAKER_01]: But it was within somewhat reason. [SPEAKER_01]: These people who start joining are just sociopaths. [SPEAKER_01]: If they just, they want their, the difference is they're looking for a reason. [SPEAKER_01]: They're doing the say something, do something. [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you. [SPEAKER_01]: And it's an external noticing planets over and over and over again. [SPEAKER_01]: They start slaughtering entire hypothesis for what seems to be no real reason. [SPEAKER_00]: Conrad's start has always been a little bit away. [SPEAKER_00]: He was never, Conrad was never a people person. [SPEAKER_00]: Right. [SPEAKER_00]: But he always kept himself apart from his legion, and he starts to really look down upon these extracurnees crazy, but these guys are extracurnees. [SPEAKER_00]: Like, yes, yeah, it's how he feels. [SPEAKER_00]: But he also feels their beneath him. [SPEAKER_00]: He's like, I, [SPEAKER_00]: showed everybody what I could do. [SPEAKER_00]: I did all these things. [SPEAKER_00]: You're just a nothing to me. [SPEAKER_00]: And he says to them a lot actually. [SPEAKER_01]: And what happens in the Legion doesn't he's not a leader. [SPEAKER_01]: As a Legion doesn't really seem to do. [SPEAKER_01]: So what happens is, but we actually sort of mentioned two is that the other problem with with this is the Legion is trying to basically [SPEAKER_01]: get in his good graces by and they see when he does go with them places. [SPEAKER_01]: They see the violence in the way he does and they're okay. [SPEAKER_01]: That's the way to do it. [SPEAKER_01]: And then they try to kind of copy him and that's what starts compounding this because the truth is he is nuts. [SPEAKER_01]: Conrad, if Conrad saw vids of what he did, he would hate Conrad. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, how does that's the problem? [SPEAKER_01]: Is that they're [SPEAKER_01]: Hey, Tom. [SPEAKER_01]: That's true. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_01]: He just hit Conrad. [SPEAKER_01]: That is true. [SPEAKER_01]: So this becomes the we're saying the legion up now for a pretty aggressive fall and not the chaos fall. [SPEAKER_01]: That's going to happen no matter what an internal fault because we're actually in the next episode we're going to get into. [SPEAKER_01]: the nightlords have almost like three falls all back to back to back. [SPEAKER_01]: There's the fall of obviously to chaos, but they actually have an internal fall to the point where in modern 40k they're one of the smallest chaos legions and the reason for that is much like the world leaders where they're going to splinter, they splinter much worse than the world leaders do because they also really [SPEAKER_01]: part of potentially curses plan on being honest, and they're not ever really able to recover. [SPEAKER_01]: They've got some of the salaries. [SPEAKER_00]: He's like, remember, the night outer just keeps showing out places to talk and it's all terrible for his legion. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. [SPEAKER_00]: He's like, hey, man, what are you guys going to do about this? [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to beat the crap out of your guys and he's like, oh, no, that'd be terrible, then he leaves. [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so in the next episode, we're going to get into the fall of Conrad, the full mental fall of Conrad, the entering of the Horace Heresy, and depending on time what happens in post-Harracy, which is actually not a lot. [SPEAKER_01]: Post-Harracy, they're one of the chapters, they're not white scars, but they're one of the chapters who post-Harracy, they just show up places, cause problems, and disappear. [SPEAKER_00]: But they're in a lot of national table stories. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're not white stars level in that. [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they do exist. [SPEAKER_00]: They're in the right way. [SPEAKER_00]: They're always someone else's story. [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I mean, the car carried on novel. [SPEAKER_01]: They are primary in the car carried on novel. [SPEAKER_01]: They do a lot of stuff, but they're just not, oh, they're not major. [SPEAKER_01]: But, anyway, with that until next week, John Barsotti, Brad Jester. [SPEAKER_01]: See you guys then. [UNKNOWN]: Thank you.
