<v Speaker 1>You'll be bear. Hey everybody, welcome to Games Mornings with <v Speaker 1>Me Jeff Greb, your host from giant bomb dot com. <v Speaker 1>Thank you for tuning in. In this episode, we're gonna <v Speaker 1>be talking about more news out of Capcom and is <v Speaker 1>a big twenty twenty four surprise coming to switch To. <v Speaker 1>It's gonna be a good one because we have Reese <v Speaker 1>Elliott on the show. Reese, how are you doing. <v Speaker 2>Hello, Jeff, I'm doing really well. Like I just said, <v Speaker 2>we've been playing a lot of switch To in my household, <v Speaker 2>a lot of Mario Kart. <v Speaker 3>But I'm ready for DK. <v Speaker 2>I'm all Maria Katt that I was like, I need <v Speaker 2>that next switch game. But also, this is like a <v Speaker 2>little bit of a correlation here. I've kind of annoyed <v Speaker 2>the antidi community again, which kind of happened last time <v Speaker 2>some show. <v Speaker 1>So let me let me stop you there. The whole <v Speaker 1>thing is breaking on me. Let me see. I think <v Speaker 1>we might be back. <v Speaker 3>Actually, okay, we're back. <v Speaker 1>I think I think we're back. But there was a <v Speaker 1>weird chug in the system and it was causing everything, <v Speaker 1>not just OBS to be weird. But Obs didn't crash, <v Speaker 1>So I'm considering this an improvement. All right, so prog, <v Speaker 1>Yeah you were. You were saying that you were like <v Speaker 1>looking into something and it annoyed some people. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, exactly. <v Speaker 2>So I shared some data on stell of Blade and <v Speaker 2>the crossover between Stellar Blade players and Dead or Alive, <v Speaker 2>like like one of the Beach Fall whole ass games, <v Speaker 2>and Grums's followers did not like that, so I got brigaded. <v Speaker 1>I mean, it's like, what is even the problem? There? <v Speaker 1>Are they afraid to admit what's even going on? That's <v Speaker 1>that's silly. Surprised to find out that they're silly and <v Speaker 1>unserious people. Yeah, I was. <v Speaker 3>Who to funk? Who to thunk? <v Speaker 1>Yeah? I was looking at that relooted game. I was <v Speaker 1>at Summer Game Fest and I was asking people, Hey, <v Speaker 1>what's what's good and m Ern was telling me, hey, yeah, <v Speaker 1>this relooted game. It's about, you know, stealing artifacts from <v Speaker 1>museums to send back to Africa. Like, oh, that that <v Speaker 1>sounds cool. And then I got home and checked out <v Speaker 1>the trailer because I didn't get a chance to play <v Speaker 1>it while I was at SGF, and the trailer was <v Speaker 1>just you know, I have that extension that still shows <v Speaker 1>how many down votes it has, and it had like <v Speaker 1>ten times the number of down votes. I'm like, what's <v Speaker 1>going on here? And it's like one glance into the <v Speaker 1>comments and it's just like, oh yeah, this is a <v Speaker 1>game about black people, so we are going to be <v Speaker 1>mad about it. Okay, the mask is fully off over <v Speaker 1>there now, so relud It looks very cool though, everybody. <v Speaker 1>Everyone should check it out. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, check it out. <v Speaker 1>We are starting late, so let's just get into it. <v Speaker 1>Before we get into things, let's explain what we do here. <v Speaker 1>GiantBomb dot com slash Join is where you need to <v Speaker 1>go to help us out. I Jeff Grubb, will help piece your <v Speaker 1>gaming life back together. If you are watching <v Speaker 1>live on twitch welcome, you can always listen to the <v Speaker 1>show later on podcast feeds by searching for Game Mess Mornings, <v Speaker 1>or find the RSS feed on giant bomb dot com. <v Speaker 1>You can also catch the show later on YouTube below YouTube. <v Speaker 1>All right, we have a lot to get into, so <v Speaker 1>let's start the Morning Mess with Resident Evil, Requiem, Pragmada <v Speaker 1>and more to appear in a Capcom showcase next week. <v Speaker 1>This comes from Jordan Miller at VGC. Capcom has announced <v Speaker 1>its next Capcom Spotlight Showcase, promising news on Resident Evil, Requiem, Pragmata, <v Speaker 1>and more. We will be presenting the latest news on <v Speaker 1>highly anticipated upcoming Capcom titles along with developer interviews. The <v Speaker 1>company said. The stream will feature new information on Monster Hunter, Wilds, <v Speaker 1>Street Fighter six, Pragmata, and Resident Evil Requiem. The broadcast <v Speaker 1>is planned to last for approximately forty minutes. Capcom Spotlight <v Speaker 1>Showcase takes place on Thursday, June twenty six at three <v Speaker 1>pm Pacific six pm Eastern. Yeah. Hey, they had a <v Speaker 1>big showing at SGF Reese. When I was there, you know, <v Speaker 1>there is a little little hall. It's not a big hall. <v Speaker 1>It's like a kind of a little you know, I guess, Yeah, <v Speaker 1>little hall is the best way to put it, because <v Speaker 1>it's not a room. It's bigger than that, but it's <v Speaker 1>small for a hall, which rhymes. And there's a lot <v Speaker 1>of like, you know, presence there from a bunch of <v Speaker 1>different developers, developers that just happen to have a game <v Speaker 1>ready to go in this moment. There is then some <v Speaker 1>cabanas off to the side that like Sega always uses <v Speaker 1>and they were there doing that again. So there's like, <v Speaker 1>you know, hey, some studios are here. It's some publishers <v Speaker 1>have their presentation or their representation that they always have <v Speaker 1>at the show. But it's like okay, but really, like <v Speaker 1>where's the big stuff? And for that it was just Capcom. <v Speaker 1>Capcom had the biggest you know representation at the event <v Speaker 1>in total. So it's like they are ready to talk <v Speaker 1>about their games. There's a you know, a lot of <v Speaker 1>stuff for them to talk about. They're on a roll. <v Speaker 1>Now they have this this showcase, which you know Capcom <v Speaker 1>showcases usually tend to be a little bit more informational <v Speaker 1>about stuff we've already been told about in some ways. <v Speaker 1>Now they're not going to try to really sell it. <v Speaker 1>So I'm not expecting a ton of new announcements, but <v Speaker 1>at the very least I am expecting to maybe get <v Speaker 1>a slight tease Reese about what is actually going on <v Speaker 1>beyond what we saw for Resident Evil Requiem. Do you <v Speaker 1>think it's time for them to already show more of that? <v Speaker 3>Yeah? <v Speaker 2>I think so, I think Yeah, what did they say? <v Speaker 2>I think February twenty twenty six is when it's coming out, <v Speaker 2>So it's kind. <v Speaker 1>Of February February twenty seventh of twenty twenty six. <v Speaker 2>Yes, yeah, yeah, so it's very much in the like <v Speaker 2>the like the pre launch kind of hype building period <v Speaker 2>right now. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, it's time. <v Speaker 2>I mean, like Capcom has been smashing it right, been <v Speaker 2>waiting for the new Resident Evil for a while, like <v Speaker 2>believe it or not, I think it's been like four <v Speaker 2>years since and like does not feel it's insane because <v Speaker 2>it was a very early like PS five series series <v Speaker 2>access game, But yeah, Capcom has been smashing it with <v Speaker 2>like its remakes. It's like, you know, high quality new <v Speaker 2>game development. It's not been chasing trends. And like what <v Speaker 2>they've been doing with Rezi, with Monster Hunter, with street <v Speaker 2>Fighter has been amazing. They've pushed into PC really well, <v Speaker 2>tracking Dogma two, and they've been seeing record profits and <v Speaker 2>the gamers the community are happy, and it seems like <v Speaker 2>they're very much kind of continuing on with that strategy. <v Speaker 2>And they're twenty twenty six, like you know, Runway, it <v Speaker 2>looks amazing. They even have a new IP with Pragmata, <v Speaker 2>which you said, probably a bit of copium here, Jeff, <v Speaker 2>But like I'm hoping for something din or crisis. <v Speaker 1>But yeah, goes, they're gonna mind. <v Speaker 3>That Resent Evil well first. <v Speaker 2>But yeah, I mean ari E nine has already like <v Speaker 2>tracking well, Tim mey to share a bit of data <v Speaker 2>on that that we have for you. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, let's do it for sure, that'd be great. <v Speaker 3>Yeah. <v Speaker 2>So I was just digging into some of the steam <v Speaker 2>A wish list data in the linear database and Resident <v Speaker 2>Evil nine already has eight hundred and forty five thousand <v Speaker 2>wish lists, which is wild, Yeah, because like it just <v Speaker 2>was added right after SGF and even Pragmata, which is <v Speaker 2>a new ip. Yeah, sure, it was like unveiled quite <v Speaker 2>a while ago. Yeah, even that has three hundred and <v Speaker 2>ten thousand wish lists just Steam mind you, and like <v Speaker 2>for two games coming out in twenty twenty six. Those <v Speaker 2>are some damn good numbers. So it seems like Capcom <v Speaker 2>is kind of continuing on that trajectory and it doesn't <v Speaker 2>want to lose steam after SGF, so it's really kind <v Speaker 2>of like still pushing. And I do like the dedicated <v Speaker 2>like showcase thing, like you know, Nintendo really pushed that <v Speaker 2>with a direct PlayStation kind of emulated it with the <v Speaker 2>state of play, and yeah, I think I think it's time. <v Speaker 2>I think it's time. That was a very long winded answer, <v Speaker 2>but yes. <v Speaker 1>No, it's time. No, I appreciate him. Yea, I'm glad <v Speaker 1>we can get that info. Yeah, as sar As rising <v Speaker 1>and Evil goes, people in chatter saying this is yeah, <v Speaker 1>this is probably right. They will use this opportunity to <v Speaker 1>release that video trailer that they showed us, not even <v Speaker 1>a trailer, was just on uninterrupted gameplay for the most part, <v Speaker 1>So we got to see that at SGF in a theater. <v Speaker 1>A handful of people got to play it. I was <v Speaker 1>not one of those people, but they played exactly what <v Speaker 1>we saw. So it does seem like they want to <v Speaker 1>show off this vertical slice. So now that I think <v Speaker 1>about that, it's actually maybe they aren't ready to show <v Speaker 1>a bunch of extra stuff of like, okay, and here's <v Speaker 1>what goes beyond what you saw in that SGF demo, Jeff, <v Speaker 1>because everyone hasn't seen that yet, and they can focus <v Speaker 1>on that now with the public. Let you know, a <v Speaker 1>lot of the media kind of talk around that, hey, <v Speaker 1>we saw this, we got to talk to capcom about <v Speaker 1>these things. Illuminate what's going on here. Specifically, that video <v Speaker 1>does end with them showing, hey, the switch from first <v Speaker 1>to third person and they can really hit that. And then, <v Speaker 1>you know, this game's out next year, so later this year, <v Speaker 1>then maybe they can have a few more beats where <v Speaker 1>they talk about okay, and here are some teases for <v Speaker 1>some other characters in the game, and here are some <v Speaker 1>teases or actually, just you know, outright express here's how <v Speaker 1>the gameplay is quite a bit different in terms of well, <v Speaker 1>you know, here's one setting, here's how you're going to <v Speaker 1>get to the other setting, and it's not necessarily maybe <v Speaker 1>that hub and spoke model that we had in Village, <v Speaker 1>although maybe it is who knows, you know, a chance <v Speaker 1>for something new here, like you mentioned, excuse me, Dino crisis, <v Speaker 1>there's Mega Man where I would like man, does Mega <v Speaker 1>Man ever show back up anytime soon? I'm always hopeful <v Speaker 1>for our friend Mike Minatti that he can get his <v Speaker 1>Mega Man back. But you know these four games that <v Speaker 1>they're talking about right now, and then they have like <v Speaker 1>updates for some for some other stuff like street Fighter <v Speaker 1>and oh no, street Fighter six is one of those games. <v Speaker 1>But yeah, they have a handful of updates for other <v Speaker 1>stuff that's already been out. It sounds like a lot <v Speaker 1>actually already. So I'm not expecting too many new big <v Speaker 1>surprises here. And it's not like Capcom really needs. <v Speaker 2>Them, no, no exactly there, they're still taking along. They <v Speaker 2>just discounted a Village actually, and it's so saling like crazy. <v Speaker 2>I think they put it down to like ten bucks <v Speaker 2>on Steam. I'm on PlayStation as well, and people like <v Speaker 2>hundreds of thousands of people are kind of like cheering <v Speaker 2>up for it. I think it's got just under one <v Speaker 2>hundred k on Steam, so they're they're being so smart. <v Speaker 2>They're really like Capcom honestly that they are the ones <v Speaker 2>to watch right now, and like fallow Japanese Japanese developer, <v Speaker 2>Konami is like looking at what they've done and is like, <v Speaker 2>we need to do that shit as well. And they've <v Speaker 2>kind of started that with the MGS three Delta, and <v Speaker 2>I hope they returned to Grace in a similar way <v Speaker 2>to Capcom. But yeah, we'll see on that. <v Speaker 1>Yep, it'll be very interesting if they were able to <v Speaker 1>pull that off which they started to you know, Silent <v Speaker 1>Hill to remake very well received, and how they got <v Speaker 1>a Silent Hill F to come follow that up. It's <v Speaker 1>very similar. And I think, you know, a lot of <v Speaker 1>that for Capcom isn't just like, oh, this is an idea, <v Speaker 1>let's just do exactly what the Capcom's doing. Over at Konami, <v Speaker 1>it's like you also have to be very good at <v Speaker 1>you know, working either working with partners like Konami has been, <v Speaker 1>or working with your own engine and having a really <v Speaker 1>strong development team. Absolutely, Yeah, let's let's keep going here. <v Speaker 1>After a rocky start, Gears of War RELOADEDS beta is <v Speaker 1>being extended. This comes from Jordan Midler at VGC Following <v Speaker 1>a difficult first beta for Gears of War Reloaded, developer <v Speaker 1>The Coalition has said it's planning to run another multiplayer <v Speaker 1>test for the game, which will include more maps and <v Speaker 1>more modes. Gears of War Reloaded, which is a modern <v Speaker 1>remaster of the two thousand and six six epic shooter, <v Speaker 1>will mark the series's debut on PlayStation after twenty years. <v Speaker 1>Ahead of the game's release, developer The Coalition has begun <v Speaker 1>running a series of betas for the Gears of War <v Speaker 1>RELOADEDS RELOADEDS multiplayer suite. However, during the game's first beta, <v Speaker 1>players reported constant server instability and technical issues. This, combined <v Speaker 1>with the limited availability of the beta, has caused some <v Speaker 1>frustration for fans. In response, the Coalition has confirmed that <v Speaker 1>another beta will now run from June twentieth until June <v Speaker 1>twenty second, so basically this weekend on all platforms, and <v Speaker 1>will feature five new area five maps for both social <v Speaker 1>Team Deathmatch and competitive King of the Hill and Execution. <v Speaker 1>You know, part of me always feels like when this <v Speaker 1>happens Reese, that it's like, oh, this was always planned, <v Speaker 1>but you know, in this situation, maybe not. I think <v Speaker 1>the team is just responding pretty quickly to a beta <v Speaker 1>that didn't go the way they wanted it to, which <v Speaker 1>is a they wanted information about how the game ran. <v Speaker 1>I'm sure they got that, but these things are always <v Speaker 1>marketing as well at this point, and I think they <v Speaker 1>want people feeling good about Gears of War, especially as <v Speaker 1>they plan to launch it on PlayStation. Right. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, exactly, It's like a mix of like a stress <v Speaker 2>test for the servers, but also it is a demo. <v Speaker 2>It is marketing, and like I actually played the beta <v Speaker 2>quite a bit and like tech issues aside, I've really <v Speaker 2>enjoyed my time with it. Like maybe get a little <v Speaker 2>too much in the nitty gritty here, but they really <v Speaker 2>kind of like nerve the shotgun compared to the two <v Speaker 2>thousand and six OG, which I love because like I <v Speaker 2>prefer Gears to be a little bit more mid range, <v Speaker 2>a little bit more long range, like with the Lancer, right, <v Speaker 2>and if I'm close up, I'm going to chainsaw someone, <v Speaker 2>not use the nasher. And I think like back in <v Speaker 2>two thousand and six, like the matter and Gears really <v Speaker 2>shifted to like shotguns only just people rolling around shotgun <v Speaker 2>and everywhere, which I don't think is what Epic had <v Speaker 2>in mind. So yeah, I really like it. But I <v Speaker 2>do think that this was kind of always part of <v Speaker 2>the rollout, like you said, Jeff, because it's not something <v Speaker 2>that you can just kind of like, you know, throw <v Speaker 2>up after twenty four hours, you know, it's like, but <v Speaker 2>I think they took the opportunity to also like get <v Speaker 2>some good pr along with you know, the usual marketing stuff. <v Speaker 3>So I'm excited. <v Speaker 2>And it makes sense as well, because this is the <v Speaker 2>first Gears that we'll be on PS five and for <v Speaker 2>Forts of Horizon is smashing it on PlayStation as well, <v Speaker 2>sold like two point six million copies. And I think <v Speaker 2>the novelty of Gears on PlayStation, along with the forty <v Speaker 2>bucks price point on the fact that a lot of <v Speaker 2>Xbox three sixty players kind of transition to PS four <v Speaker 2>and so there's a lot of nostalgia four Gears among <v Speaker 2>PlayStation players because of that means that Gears reloaded is <v Speaker 2>going to do very well. Like whether or not it <v Speaker 2>approaches those Forts of Heights remains to be seen, right, <v Speaker 2>but I'm very excited. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, we'll see. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, And like you know, the story of oh, Xbox <v Speaker 1>games on PlayStation pretty stale at this point. But I <v Speaker 1>mean overall in your estimation, the strategy, the strategy for <v Speaker 1>Xbox seems to be working, and honestly, it seems like <v Speaker 1>everyone's kind of winning here, right. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, exactly, Like more people get to play Xbox games <v Speaker 2>like PlayStation thirty cut of all those sales Xboxes, you know, <v Speaker 2>getting more revenues amid kind of a game pass subscription <v Speaker 2>stagnate in a little bit, everybody wins, like the way <v Speaker 2>I see it, If more people get to play games, <v Speaker 2>then that's fucking awesome, right, Like. <v Speaker 1>Yep, yep, absolutely, all right, let's keep going here as well. <v Speaker 1>Sega has made nine of its mobile retro re release <v Speaker 1>re releases free before they are delisted. This is from <v Speaker 1>Chris Sculling at VGC. Sega has made nine of its <v Speaker 1>mobile retro re releases free before they're delisted in the future. <v Speaker 1>For a while, Sega had been re releasing retro games <v Speaker 1>on iOS and Android devices as part of its Sega <v Speaker 1>Forever program. Now, as noticed by Android Authority, nine of <v Speaker 1>these Sega Forever titles have started showing players pop up <v Speaker 1>screens explaining that they're set to be removed. Yeah started, Yeah, <v Speaker 1>there we go, and then support for this game will <v Speaker 1>be discontinued, says the message, but you can continue playing <v Speaker 1>offline line. The nine mobile games affected are Crazy Taxi, Classic, <v Speaker 1>Golden As Classics. I'm not gonna read the Classic for <v Speaker 1>the rest of these, Shining Force, Sonic CD, Sonic The <v Speaker 1>Hedgehog Episode Yeah four, Episode two, Streets of Rage, Streets <v Speaker 1>of Rage two, Super Monkey Ball, Soakura, and Virtua Tennis. <v Speaker 1>It seems like what happened here is there was like <v Speaker 1>free like ads in these games, and those ads have broken, <v Speaker 1>and so Sega's like, well, we're not going to support <v Speaker 1>it anymore because we're not going to fix that, and <v Speaker 1>they're not it's not going to fix itself, and we're <v Speaker 1>not going to like change the business model. But they <v Speaker 1>are still free on the store and the ads won't work. <v Speaker 1>So now they're just completely free games without any sort <v Speaker 1>of monetization or ads. So people could just go get <v Speaker 1>these games, have them on their device, and then they'll <v Speaker 1>just continue to work, you know. On mobile. It's a <v Speaker 1>little bit funky with hey, okay, well if I have <v Speaker 1>a license for this thing, will I be able to <v Speaker 1>continue to download it after it's no longer available. I <v Speaker 1>I think in this case, I wouldn't bet on that <v Speaker 1>that's something you know on you know, Nintendo systems, where <v Speaker 1>it's like, oh the store shutdown, that's terrible. Well yeah, <v Speaker 1>but if you bought those games, you could still like <v Speaker 1>go download dsiwear games, I think, and stuff like that. <v Speaker 1>Here on mobile, it's that there's just not as much <v Speaker 1>of a desire to protect these games long term. So yeah, <v Speaker 1>if you want these games, I would just go get <v Speaker 1>them now have them on your device, and then you <v Speaker 1>just have them, which is what I did this morning, Reese. <v Speaker 1>So yeah, I was pretty excited to see this. And <v Speaker 1>not that I'm going to be playing a lot of <v Speaker 1>Sonic CD on my phone, but I'll play, you know, <v Speaker 1>I'll play some Crazy Taxi every once in a while. <v Speaker 1>That's a game that's wild enough that playing on a <v Speaker 1>with a touchscreen controller almost kind of makes sense to me. <v Speaker 1>But yeah, Sega, pretty cool thing for them to do. <v Speaker 2>Right, Yeah, Like they really didn't need to do this <v Speaker 2>right so respect I mean, they didn't really publicize it <v Speaker 2>much either, but still very cool. And another kind of <v Speaker 2>wrinkle to it as well is like, maybe, you know, <v Speaker 2>with all the odds, Sega saw an opportunity to, like Sunset, <v Speaker 2>a lot of its legacy mobile stuff because you know, <v Speaker 2>last year acquired Rovio, the Angry Birds company, which has <v Speaker 2>a lot more experience obviously in more point than Sega does, <v Speaker 2>which was why, you know, part of the reason why <v Speaker 2>they acquired it. So you know, maybe they're wiping this <v Speaker 2>like clean a little bit, getting their ducks in a <v Speaker 2>row for the next phase of their mobile push. But <v Speaker 2>I like, unlike you, I think playing Crazy Taxi on <v Speaker 2>mobile is the worst thing for me. Like I cannot <v Speaker 2>I cannot handle that LWN for it. Yeah, I can't. <v Speaker 2>I can't control like three D games on a mobile. <v Speaker 2>I just can't do it, Like I've tried. But hey, <v Speaker 2>I mean I do have the controller, so maybe I'll <v Speaker 2>give it a trick. <v Speaker 1>There you go. <v Speaker 2>But also they don't have all the fun like branding <v Speaker 2>on the mobile version as well, like the KFC branding <v Speaker 2>is like Chicken Shack or something. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, but I think but Rich Bad at Games and <v Speaker 1>Chad is saying they it does have the full soundtrack though, <v Speaker 1>which is yeah, I'm like, I'm surprised by that to <v Speaker 1>the point where I almost don't believe you Rich bad <v Speaker 1>at Games, Like is that for shoot? Like I'm gonna <v Speaker 1>go check that out for myself. That's actually impressive. <v Speaker 2>So yeah, bit of offspring, Yeah that's wild. Yeah, music <v Speaker 2>licensing is so hard, Like how did they pull that off? <v Speaker 4>That's that's improcessed. I hope that's the case. <v Speaker 1>I suppose on phone it would be, that's like the <v Speaker 1>easiest place to like have the game and then just <v Speaker 1>play the offspring on YouTube music in the background or whatever. <v Speaker 1>But uh no, I want it in the game for real, <v Speaker 1>give it, give it to me. Uh And then Rich <v Speaker 1>Bata Game says fuck you, Jeff, fair Fair Listen, I <v Speaker 1>just don't trust you. Man. All right, let's take a <v Speaker 1>quick break when we come back. We have plenty more <v Speaker 1>headlines to get into, including hey, is that is that <v Speaker 1>big game from last year? Coming to switch to maybe <v Speaker 1>talk about it right after this. All right, we are back. <v Speaker 1>It's Game Mess Mornings. I'm Jeff Grubb, That's Reyese Elliott, <v Speaker 1>and I'm very happy that the intro video did not <v Speaker 1>play again, even though it's right there in the thing. <v Speaker 1>I turned it off and I was hoping that would work. <v Speaker 1>Here we are again. I had to rebuild obs this morning, everybody, <v Speaker 1>So this is a very patchwork show right now. Jan's <v Speaker 1>back tomorrow. Thank god. All right, let's get back into it. <v Speaker 1>PS five's Stellar Blade is reportedly coming to Nintendo switch To. <v Speaker 1>This is from Jordan Midler at VGC. Stellar Blade is <v Speaker 1>reportedly coming to Nintendo switch To. That's according to a <v Speaker 1>new report which claims that Stellar Blade developers Shift Up <v Speaker 1>is currently currently developing a Nintendo switch To part of <v Speaker 1>the game following its massive Steam success. According to play <v Speaker 1>Form translated from Korean, the popular action game is currently <v Speaker 1>in development for Nintendo's new console. This comes as developers <v Speaker 1>developers Shift Up gifted hundreds of Nintendo's Switch two systems <v Speaker 1>to its employees. Developer shift Up told play forum that <v Speaker 1>nothing is confirmed regarding regarding the development of a switch <v Speaker 1>to version, but that it was reviewing various possibilities internally. <v Speaker 1>This one feels like I could easily see this happen <v Speaker 1>switch to. Is you know, we're going to talk about <v Speaker 1>like how third party games are doing on switch to. <v Speaker 1>There are certain games where the that that conversation doesn't <v Speaker 1>really apply. Stellar Blade certainly seems like one of them, <v Speaker 1>you know, especially after how well it did on Steam, right. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, like absolutely, like it really did well on Steam, <v Speaker 2>Like you said, like one point one million copies sold, <v Speaker 2>and like for PlayStation this is great as well because <v Speaker 2>I mean there's two there's two parts to it. PlayStation <v Speaker 2>really wants to target like China to increase its audience. Yeah, <v Speaker 2>and on PC, fifty six percent of on Steam that <v Speaker 2>is of Stellar Blades players off from China, so like <v Speaker 2>the majority actually, so it's kind of wild. And another <v Speaker 2>thing as well, when Stellar Blade hits Steam, the PS <v Speaker 2>five version had like a spike in sales actually, so <v Speaker 2>it's sold like fifty six k a week after that, <v Speaker 2>like in the week, which is the most it's kind <v Speaker 2>of sold since I think November last year when it <v Speaker 2>went on sale forty bucks. So it's like it's such <v Speaker 2>a like important part of PlayStation strategy reach China, increase <v Speaker 2>sales in its kind of core platform and kind of <v Speaker 2>reap those like Steam revenues where it gets like seventy <v Speaker 2>percent of kind of everything sold, which is actually a <v Speaker 2>lot of money. So yeah, it makes a lot of sense. <v Speaker 2>So if they can do that via the Switch to <v Speaker 2>for which third party games are doing very well right <v Speaker 2>now because there's very little first party you know, like <v Speaker 2>Cyberpunk is the second best selling game on Switch too <v Speaker 2>right now. It just makes a lot of sense, right, Jeff, <v Speaker 2>It's it really does. <v Speaker 1>Yep, it makes a lot of sense. Also, that's a <v Speaker 1>game that should run on the switch to kind of <v Speaker 1>no problem. It's running on Steam Deck. You know, you <v Speaker 1>have to run it at the resolution that the Steam <v Speaker 1>Deck is eight hundred P, but that's that's the real <v Speaker 1>resolution of that screen. And to me, that says, you know, <v Speaker 1>if you get that game running at like five forty <v Speaker 1>P with the DLSS, similar to like how Street Fighter runs, <v Speaker 1>you could probably have that game even run it sixty <v Speaker 1>frames per second potentially on on the switch to you know, <v Speaker 1>as long as you turned down some of the other features. <v Speaker 1>And I think that would be fantastic. Then there is <v Speaker 1>the Sony aspects. Sony did did publish this game. They <v Speaker 1>published it on on Steam as well, I think I <v Speaker 1>think they did. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, that's right, that's right, like not officially in China <v Speaker 2>because they don't have a license, but for all intents <v Speaker 2>and purposes, like most Chinese games will play on the <v Speaker 2>gray market and you know, get it through Steam anyway. <v Speaker 3>So yeah, you're right. <v Speaker 1>So then it's like, okay, well what does that look <v Speaker 1>like on switch? Well, you know, at this point, this <v Speaker 1>is not a game that Sony owns, but it is <v Speaker 1>a game that Sony published. There are games that Sony <v Speaker 1>straight up owns that are coming to place or coming <v Speaker 1>to Switch to or Switch one, and that's like Patapon <v Speaker 1>and stuff like that. They did that pat Upon remaster <v Speaker 1>and that that got announced to Switch one of those <v Speaker 1>recent directs, and now Sony's not publishing those, but it <v Speaker 1>still owns those. And it seems like the like they're like, <v Speaker 1>they're just doing that because it's the easiest solution for them. <v Speaker 1>Whether that's because they don't want to be seen as <v Speaker 1>publishing games on Switch, I don't know. Maybe I don't <v Speaker 1>think so. I think it's more just like, hey, that's <v Speaker 1>a cheap way to get that over there, and we <v Speaker 1>don't have to take any of our own resources. And <v Speaker 1>you know, sure we have to share some money with <v Speaker 1>this other publisher, but it's basically for us, as far <v Speaker 1>as we're looking at it, free money. So I just <v Speaker 1>think if that's how they feel about their own games, <v Speaker 1>there's just no way they're still hung up on this <v Speaker 1>idea of these games that they don't own that they <v Speaker 1>happen to publish going to at least the Nintendo platform <v Speaker 1>and you know, the very you know, it's worth pointing <v Speaker 1>out this is not even the weirdest one of these <v Speaker 1>death Stranding another game that published went to Xbox eventually. <v Speaker 1>So yeah, I just think that the lines are the <v Speaker 1>lines of demarcation between these platforms are you know, murkier <v Speaker 1>than ever. And I think in this case, it's like, yeah, <v Speaker 1>of course this game is going to make sense on <v Speaker 1>Switch to regardless of Sony's involvement, right. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, ltely. <v Speaker 2>And you know, Sony has already dabbled with kind of <v Speaker 2>publishing on. <v Speaker 3>Switch with Lego Horizons. <v Speaker 1>Good point. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, so they're really kind of getting in there, and yeah, <v Speaker 2>I think I think it just makes sense as well, <v Speaker 2>Like with the second party stuff, it's more of like <v Speaker 2>a safer way to kind of test the waters see <v Speaker 2>how the Switch users kind of respond to PlayStation content, <v Speaker 2>because Lego Horizons didn't do very well, honestly, but it <v Speaker 2>didn't do very well anyway, because that's an ip mismatch <v Speaker 2>if you ask me. So, you know, they're still testing <v Speaker 2>the waters a little bit, and you know, I wouldn't <v Speaker 2>be surprised eventually if we see some of those legacy <v Speaker 2>PlayStation games on Switch, Like you're uncharted your ratchet and clanks, <v Speaker 2>that would do very well. Even astros you know, Astrobot, <v Speaker 2>that would be amazing. Yeah, would not be great without <v Speaker 2>not great, but it would suck to not have the haptics. <v Speaker 4>You know, the three The three d rumble is good <v Speaker 4>on the switch. <v Speaker 1>To exactly, so they could do that would be fine. <v Speaker 1>It's you know, the force feedback in the triggers and <v Speaker 1>stuff like that. You might miss that for sure. And honestly, <v Speaker 1>Astrobat does use a lot of the analog controls for <v Speaker 1>the triggers, so the game might not even work that well. <v Speaker 1>They have to like rethink it for the switch to. <v Speaker 1>So sorry, I'm just thinking out loud now, but you're right. <v Speaker 1>I would still like that. I would like a like <v Speaker 1>a PS one classics collection on switch to. I don't <v Speaker 1>know if we're there yet, probably not, but I would <v Speaker 1>like that. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, that would be cool. <v Speaker 2>Like it's part of the switch online subscription. Right, we've <v Speaker 2>got en sixty four. <v Speaker 3>GameCube all the other Oh yeah, even that would Did <v Speaker 3>you imagine that? That would be? <v Speaker 4>Why you can't that might be a stretch? <v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, hardly, I love it. Hard to imagine that. <v Speaker 1>All right, let's see here a look at how third <v Speaker 1>party games are selling on Nintendo Switch to This is <v Speaker 1>from Nintendo Everything by way of the Game Business, which <v Speaker 1>published a new report diving into the sales of third <v Speaker 1>party Nintendo Switch two games. The outlet has received data <v Speaker 1>from a few different companies. Highlights include sixty two of <v Speaker 1>Switch to Physical game sales in the United States turning <v Speaker 1>the launch way were first party games. That excludes the <v Speaker 1>Mario Kart World bundle, so take that out and still <v Speaker 1>far more than half for first party games. I don't <v Speaker 1>think that's too surprising. Forty eight percent of Switch to <v Speaker 1>Physical Games sales in the UK for launch week were <v Speaker 1>first party games. Again that excludes the bundle. Eighty six <v Speaker 1>percent of Switch to Physical game sales in the UK <v Speaker 1>for launch week were first party games, including the Mario <v Speaker 1>Kart World bundle that does include that. Excuse me there by. <v Speaker 1>Comparison for the launch of Switch one, that number was <v Speaker 1>eighty nine percent instead of eighty six percent, so I <v Speaker 1>guess a little bit more in favor of third party <v Speaker 1>but effectively, even effectively pretty much the same thing, so <v Speaker 1>not much difference. I think. Despite the idea that maybe hey, <v Speaker 1>Switch two could be better for third parties and then <v Speaker 1>let's see here, and for the launch month of Switch <v Speaker 1>one in the United States, eighty one percent of US <v Speaker 1>physical game sales were from first party games and the <v Speaker 1>CD projects of projects. Cyberpunk twenty seventy seven was the <v Speaker 1>best selling third party game during the launch of the <v Speaker 1>switch To, beating the launch tales of CD projects The <v Speaker 1>Witcher three on Switch one, and that segu was the <v Speaker 1>number three biggest publisher on Switch Too. When it comes <v Speaker 1>to games released both physically and digitally, over eighty percent <v Speaker 1>of Switch to game sales came from physical retailers, so <v Speaker 1>still a lot of people buying physical games on switch <v Speaker 1>Excuse me? All right, So how do you read all this? Reach? <v Speaker 1>This sounds like if I had to guest beforehand, I <v Speaker 1>think I might have been a little bit more in <v Speaker 1>favor of Hey, so I think third party games might <v Speaker 1>do a little bit better. But seeing this in hindsight <v Speaker 1>and kind of now knowing how I felt about the <v Speaker 1>launch of the switch to and the games I was <v Speaker 1>most interested in picking up, I'm not too surprised by <v Speaker 1>these numbers, how about you? <v Speaker 3>Yeah? Same? <v Speaker 2>I mean, the attack trait for Mario Kart's World is <v Speaker 2>going to be insane, right, so that's the main thing. <v Speaker 2>Of course, there's not much else first party except the <v Speaker 2>Zelda upgrades and what was the mini game coll I forget. <v Speaker 1>What it's called Welcome to Her. <v Speaker 2>Yes, that's it. Apart from those, like, there's not really <v Speaker 2>much first parties, So it's for all intents and purposes, <v Speaker 2>it's all Mario kart right in the same way that <v Speaker 2>with the original Switch it was mostly all Breath of <v Speaker 2>the Wild, so that that comparison makes sense. But yeah, <v Speaker 2>over time, I think like third parties will still kind <v Speaker 2>of generate a lot of revenue because you know, you know, <v Speaker 2>the original Switch, there wasn't a lot of third parties <v Speaker 2>because everybody was like, well, we you sucked, so we're <v Speaker 2>not going to like add games to this next Nintendo platform. <v Speaker 2>And then it became like insanely popular. You couldn't get <v Speaker 2>a switch anywhere, so a lot of publishers were kind <v Speaker 2>of like they missed the boat, right, Like even Bobby <v Speaker 2>Kartik like piece of shit. Sorry, like the even he said, like, <v Speaker 2>you know, yeah, we regret not supporting the original Switch <v Speaker 2>at launch. So a lot of the third parties they <v Speaker 2>kind of learned their lesson, and that's why there's so <v Speaker 2>much coming to Switch. We've got Call of Duty come <v Speaker 2>in like it launched with Cyberpunk, so yeah, like Mario <v Speaker 2>Kart did suck up a lot of the air because <v Speaker 2>it's Mario Kart, right, like Mario catt eight Deluxe is <v Speaker 2>the best selling Switch game, and with Nintendo's best selling <v Speaker 2>games ever, it is actually Nintendo's best selling game ever. <v Speaker 2>Like actually, I mean you could count Tetrus, but I <v Speaker 2>wouldn't do. <v Speaker 1>That, which was bundled, and yeah, it's a little bit different, <v Speaker 1>Yeah I guess. <v Speaker 3>Yeah, yeah, exactly. We sports for the same for the <v Speaker 3>same reason. <v Speaker 2>But yeah, I really think like even as for new games, <v Speaker 2>like developers are already building like lower fidelity versions of <v Speaker 2>their games, like for the series s for lower end <v Speaker 2>PCs for your Steam decks. So the switch to it <v Speaker 2>is going to be a perfect storm, right, Like it's <v Speaker 2>even gonna be the all in one like third party <v Speaker 2>development device that has PC games because the mouse stuff <v Speaker 2>is pretty good, Like welcome to our show. That Xbox <v Speaker 2>is gonna come to it, like we said earlier, Jeff, <v Speaker 2>PlayStation is probably gonna come to it more of course <v Speaker 2>Nintendo games. So yeah, I think parties will do well <v Speaker 2>on the switch, but still like I'm hoping for a <v Speaker 2>direct soon, to hear more about first party stuff, because yeah, <v Speaker 2>we have Donkey Kong, we have that, like that Splatoon announcement, <v Speaker 2>but like I want to hear more about like Mario <v Speaker 2>Kott Pokemon twenty twenty six. I want some new ip. So, yeah, <v Speaker 2>do you have you heard anything about a direct to <v Speaker 2>be any chance because you're a mister leeks. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, no, no, yeah, nope, not heard anything about a direct. <v Speaker 1>I don't. As I always like to point out, that <v Speaker 1>doesn't mean there's not one happening. There's a million reasons <v Speaker 1>why I wouldn't have heard about one. That's happened before, <v Speaker 1>it will happen again in this situation, you know, especially <v Speaker 1>after we get the Donkey Kong specific direct. I think <v Speaker 1>at the end of our talkover Mike and Dan, we're <v Speaker 1>both saying we might get even yeah, I think my <v Speaker 1>name was saying we might get a Metroid specific direct. <v Speaker 1>I like the sound of that. That sounds plausible to me. <v Speaker 1>I lean in that direction as opposed to a full direct, <v Speaker 1>although you know, a partner direct could live really pop <v Speaker 1>off at any moment. That that's the kind of thing <v Speaker 1>where it's like Nintendo really had to cram as much <v Speaker 1>as it could into that first switch To Direct and <v Speaker 1>it probably wasn't a lot of space for a lot <v Speaker 1>of other games that were desperate to get into there. <v Speaker 1>And I do think Nintendo is interested in letting third <v Speaker 1>parties know, like we do want switch To to be <v Speaker 1>a little bit more friendly for you. So we're going <v Speaker 1>to continue trying to create you know, oxygen in the <v Speaker 1>room for you, for you to really breathe and you know, <v Speaker 1>spread your legs a little bit. Oh no, stretch your legs. <v Speaker 1>I did it that, I did the thing, and so <v Speaker 1>I hope that that that does happen. It gives those <v Speaker 1>games a chance to really get out there. But as <v Speaker 1>far as this launch goes, when I look at at <v Speaker 1>like switch To and and the way the games that <v Speaker 1>launched with, it's a lot of games that are very familiar, <v Speaker 1>not just like oh maybe you played this on another platform. <v Speaker 1>It's like a list of games that people who they <v Speaker 1>care about those games have definitely sought them out. Like <v Speaker 1>even Cyberpunk is a game that people have probably very <v Speaker 1>much found a way to play before this. Now, I <v Speaker 1>think switch To that there's a novelty there having a portable, <v Speaker 1>and then there's a Nintendo audience that probably didn't check <v Speaker 1>it out and now they have an opportunity to do <v Speaker 1>opportunity to do so. But that list of games that's <v Speaker 1>like going to have a chance to pop off because <v Speaker 1>of those right circumstances is very small. So in this story, <v Speaker 1>Chris Dring, who you know, is the game business, he <v Speaker 1>says these numbers aren't great at all for third parties. <v Speaker 1>He also heard from one publisher that the data is <v Speaker 1>below our lowest estimates, and I just, you know, I <v Speaker 1>think that's a couple of things. Again, it's a lot <v Speaker 1>of these games are very familiar. Also, there just actually <v Speaker 1>were way more of these third party games than there <v Speaker 1>were at like the launch of the Switch one, where <v Speaker 1>it's like, oh hey, look at this golf story game <v Speaker 1>that came out pretty soon, and that game just popped off. <v Speaker 1>Everyone just bought that because it's this one new third <v Speaker 1>party indie game worth talking about. And here it's like <v Speaker 1>there's just a lot more traffic for any one game <v Speaker 1>to stand out. So Cyberpunk kind of was the one <v Speaker 1>that won there and everything else got left behind a <v Speaker 1>little bit. Do you think it has long term implications <v Speaker 1>for third party success on switch To. I don't know, <v Speaker 1>what do you think? <v Speaker 3>No, I don't think so. <v Speaker 2>And like another one was like snake Pass right in <v Speaker 2>the switch One that never would have been a success anyway. <v Speaker 1>But no, I don't think I love snake Pass. <v Speaker 2>Oh yeah, yeah, this is this is part of your <v Speaker 2>personality exactly. Yes, nice, but no, I don't think it's <v Speaker 2>going to be a long term problem. And another kind <v Speaker 2>of wrinkle I guess is that the whole Switch one <v Speaker 2>library is playable on the switch To, which a lot <v Speaker 2>of Switch To owners did myself included. You know, I've <v Speaker 2>been playing a lot of Mario Odyssey lately. I've been <v Speaker 2>going back to Animal Crossing. You know, it looks so <v Speaker 2>good at four K by the way, with Odyssey, but <v Speaker 2>like that's part of it too, And I think as well, <v Speaker 2>like a big thing to remember is that shares percentages <v Speaker 2>aren't like whole. <v Speaker 3>Numbers, right, yeah. <v Speaker 2>And I think Mario kartt really did pull a lot <v Speaker 2>of that sway because of the bundle, because it is <v Speaker 2>like the game, right, like that's the killer app of <v Speaker 2>this console, so I would so. <v Speaker 1>It's like it's not there's not a lot of money <v Speaker 1>left over for. <v Speaker 3>Games, Yeah, exactly. <v Speaker 2>So again, like a lot of people probably like mind <v Speaker 2>their back catalog and like Mario Cutt was probably their <v Speaker 2>only game. So yeah, don't take this like early third <v Speaker 2>party kind of lack of sales. Don't extrapolated to the <v Speaker 2>rest of the Switch catalog, because it's not going to <v Speaker 2>be like this forever, right, Like this is a new slate, <v Speaker 2>Like people are just excited to go back to their <v Speaker 2>back catalog Like Breath of the Wild Ties The Kingdom <v Speaker 2>are some of the best games of all time in <v Speaker 2>my opinion and a lot of people's opinion, So people <v Speaker 2>of course want to go back to those games and <v Speaker 2>play those like at the high fidelity. So yeah, like <v Speaker 2>this this is not the end of the line or anything. <v Speaker 2>Third parties will do well on Switch, like especially when <v Speaker 2>we get the Xbox and the PlayStation stuff. So yeah, <v Speaker 2>I agree with with Chris String in a lot of way. <v Speaker 2>It's a very smart guy, yea, his game business is amazing. <v Speaker 1>Love it. <v Speaker 2>But yeah, yeah, don't don't to this early kind of challenge, <v Speaker 2>these early challenges as long term because things will change. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, I still think the outlook for third party games <v Speaker 1>on Switch to is much brighter than just about any <v Speaker 1>other recent home console variation of a Nintendo console. I <v Speaker 1>don't think it'll be night and day. I don't think <v Speaker 1>this is gonna be like, oh, this is like just <v Speaker 1>green pastures for for EA. But I think there will <v Speaker 1>be far more of these third party games throughout the <v Speaker 1>switch to his life that seem to like really do <v Speaker 1>well on that system. And and yeah, that's a kind <v Speaker 1>of between Oh, like a PlayStation where third party third <v Speaker 1>party games have always thrived and always just had as <v Speaker 1>much room to grow as possible, and then a like <v Speaker 1>what's like a we or not even we we third <v Speaker 1>party was okay on there, but like a WEU where <v Speaker 1>it's like no third party games sold at all on <v Speaker 1>the WIU. Batman a Batman Arkham Knight Armored Edition or whatever. Yeah, <v Speaker 1>that that didn't sell. All right, let's keep going here. <v Speaker 1>Next up, rumored God of War spin off pushback to <v Speaker 1>twenty twenty six. According to Insiders, This is from Alessandro <v Speaker 1>Barbosa at GameSpot. It rumored God of War game taking <v Speaker 1>place in the series' original setting of Greece, was absent <v Speaker 1>from Sony's latest State of Play showcase, leading to questions <v Speaker 1>regarding its existence, but according to those who initially reported <v Speaker 1>on that project, it's supposedly been moved of release in <v Speaker 1>twenty twenty six. While lamenting the state of his Fantasy <v Speaker 1>critic draft on the latest episode of the Last of <v Speaker 1>the Nine Ten Dogs Giant Bombs, Jeff Grubb shares that <v Speaker 1>he's heard the latest God of War titles now do <v Speaker 1>out in twenty twenty six. No additional information regarding the <v Speaker 1>reasoning for the move or whether it was the release <v Speaker 1>window all along was shared. Okay, yeah, let's update it here. <v Speaker 1>I actually mentioned this before that State of play, but <v Speaker 1>I did so on Twitter, which is just a weird, <v Speaker 1>weird platform now where it's like, if I post something <v Speaker 1>on Twitter, it's very likely the algorithm will just be like, Oh, <v Speaker 1>this person's got a lot of followers, we want to <v Speaker 1>keep them happy. Let's just boost this shit to crazy town. <v Speaker 1>But then a lot of people I like interacting with <v Speaker 1>don't see it at all. So this thing where I <v Speaker 1>was say, hey, that state of Play is happening. I <v Speaker 1>don't know if God of War is going to be <v Speaker 1>in it, but I have heard it's moved to twenty <v Speaker 1>twenty six. So that was before the State of Play, <v Speaker 1>and it didn't really get picked up. So I was <v Speaker 1>just kind of following up on that on last than <v Speaker 1>the ten Dogs earlier this week, and now people are <v Speaker 1>actually starting to like hear that. So I think what <v Speaker 1>happened here is the game was originally supposed to come <v Speaker 1>out this year. It was going to be a release <v Speaker 1>for twenty twenty five, and then they've moved it to <v Speaker 1>twenty twenty six. It is also, as the rumors have <v Speaker 1>been suggesting, I'll corroborate those kind of officially now in <v Speaker 1>some way officially in a Jeff Grab capacity, not a <v Speaker 1>Sony capacity, that it sounds like it's going to be <v Speaker 1>a two point five D Metroid Vingas style game, which boy, yeah, <v Speaker 1>there we go be in research, We're like, yeah, let's go. <v Speaker 1>I think that's a great fit for a Hey, let's <v Speaker 1>keep God of War in the conversation. Let's do something <v Speaker 1>else with it. What can we do? You know, should <v Speaker 1>we do a VR game like we did with Horizon. <v Speaker 1>It's like, no, no, make a Metroid venue. That character <v Speaker 1>is ideal for that. So yeah, I'm still very excited <v Speaker 1>about this. But the game does sound like it's coming <v Speaker 1>out next year now, so yeah, let's have both the <v Speaker 1>wait a little bit longer. Does that sound appealing to you? Though? <v Speaker 1>This God War Metroid vinga two point five D game. <v Speaker 2>It sounds very appealing to me. Like the Metroidvanua A <v Speaker 2>Prince of Persia game last year was so fucking good. <v Speaker 2>So if we can get like PlayStation's primary studios behind that, <v Speaker 2>although it's more of like a shorter game, right, it's <v Speaker 2>more of the kind of thesis of making more sustainable games, right, I. <v Speaker 3>Think it would be incredible. <v Speaker 2>I also think it would be a good game to <v Speaker 2>launch a native portable PlayStation PlayStation console with a bad idea. Yeah, <v Speaker 2>we'll see, we'll see, but yeah, I would love that. <v Speaker 2>Like it's more one for the core audience, you know, <v Speaker 2>it's never gonna hit like the mainstream like of a <v Speaker 2>you know, two point five t the Metroid Vina God <v Speaker 2>of War. But it's such a good like mix, like <v Speaker 2>when you think of like Kratos's abilities, the different weapons <v Speaker 2>like the acts from God of War the PS five <v Speaker 2>game at the first reboot and Raging Rock, the Blades <v Speaker 2>of Chaos and everything, like, yeah, it's it is. It's <v Speaker 2>the perfect blueprint, right, And it's been a while since <v Speaker 2>we've had a good Metroid Vanya to be honest, like <v Speaker 2>apart from the Prince of Persia one. <v Speaker 1>Right, Yeah, So, I mean my hope here is to <v Speaker 1>I hear two point five d Metroid Vana. If you <v Speaker 1>if you make that thing play like Metroid Dread but <v Speaker 1>with Krados, and I mean, you're already far ahead of <v Speaker 1>the pack in terms of getting my excitement going. So yeah, <v Speaker 1>I'm I think this is really gonna hit for me. <v Speaker 1>I think you're right. It's at that mainstream audience probably <v Speaker 1>won't pay it too much mind, but I think it's <v Speaker 1>a decent way to do those two things, like, hey, <v Speaker 1>let's make some more games in these franchises that are <v Speaker 1>smaller and we can get out at a relatively affordable <v Speaker 1>price to us, and then let's keep God War in <v Speaker 1>the conversation. I think it does both those things well enough, <v Speaker 1>especially if it's a really really good one of these, <v Speaker 1>you know. And developers like making Metroid Venus. They just <v Speaker 1>like it. They like the they like the genre, they're <v Speaker 1>inspired by it. They want to try their own ideas. <v Speaker 1>And to me, I think when I hear, oh, some <v Speaker 1>teams over at Sony want to make a Metroidvana, I <v Speaker 1>mean it's like, okay that they got some real developers <v Speaker 1>over there, let's go. This is an exciting proposition to me. <v Speaker 1>Uh h all right, uh. Marathon delay was a surprise <v Speaker 1>even to some of Bungee's developers. This is from Alex <v Speaker 1>Co at Dual Shockers. Yesterday, Bungie announced that it's upcoming <v Speaker 1>extraction live service shooter Marathon was getting delayed indefinitely, which <v Speaker 1>shouldn't surprise anyone if you've been keeping tabs on the game. Apparently, <v Speaker 1>even the developers at the studio were unaware of the <v Speaker 1>game's delay, though, and only found out about it at <v Speaker 1>the same time as everyone else. If true, this means <v Speaker 1>the dysfunction that the studio is even more severe than <v Speaker 1>anyone thought. This new tidbit of info comes from journalist <v Speaker 1>Paul Tassey, who mentioned it over on Twitter, where he <v Speaker 1>claimed that the developers were only finding out about the <v Speaker 1>delay just now. I think this happens pretty frequently. I <v Speaker 1>think where there's a certain sub section of the studio <v Speaker 1>that we'll find out when everyone else finds out publicly. Now, <v Speaker 1>that doesn't always happen that way. Is that a sign <v Speaker 1>of dysfunction potentially? And I think it's easy to assume <v Speaker 1>in this case it is a sign of dysfunction. I <v Speaker 1>don't think it necessarily always is, but here it definitely <v Speaker 1>feels like that would be the case, because this is <v Speaker 1>a studio that has had seemingly had issues with communication <v Speaker 1>and processes where they are stealing art and no one <v Speaker 1>knows who did it or how it happened, and there's <v Speaker 1>a ton of it in there, and it ends up <v Speaker 1>in a final product or a public product that they <v Speaker 1>are showing off to people. You kind of want to <v Speaker 1>make sure you are crossing all your t's and dotting <v Speaker 1>all your eyes, and in this situation when you are, <v Speaker 1>when you know that you're delaying your game, you maybe <v Speaker 1>want at least just have a quick meeting with everyone <v Speaker 1>at your studio, an all hands meeting, and just say <v Speaker 1>that as you are announcing things at the very least, <v Speaker 1>I get there, maybe worried about leaks, although you know, <v Speaker 1>leaking that this game was going to get delayed, with <v Speaker 1>have been like, oh yeah, everyone gets that. We kind <v Speaker 1>of all feel that's going to happen. Let me ask you, <v Speaker 1>do you think that that Bungie is as dysfunctional as <v Speaker 1>it seems from the outside right now? <v Speaker 2>I mean, it's hard to answer that but they got acquired, <v Speaker 2>so you know, a change of hands is always going <v Speaker 2>to be difficult, like processes change, like chains of command change, <v Speaker 2>so that that's part of it. But yeah, it does <v Speaker 2>seem to be like a lot of dysfunction at the studio. <v Speaker 2>But what I will also say is, like, you know, <v Speaker 2>after the bait, like I played a little bit of it, <v Speaker 2>or I guess pre alpha, whatever they want to call it, <v Speaker 2>I think the delay is very much needed. And I <v Speaker 2>think a lot of the features that they mentioned in <v Speaker 2>the announcement are kind of like a direct response to <v Speaker 2>a lot of the community feedback from the beta. So <v Speaker 2>they're kind of really focusing on Bunjie's focusing on a <v Speaker 2>lot of things that were missing. A lot of features <v Speaker 2>that were missing from the beta, things like proximity chat, <v Speaker 2>which is like very necessary for like a you know <v Speaker 2>pvev VP game. Like the graphics are being improved, which <v Speaker 2>they called out because honestly, the beta did not look great. <v Speaker 2>There's going to be more like PvE encounters because a <v Speaker 2>lot of people were like, well it's all PvP, like <v Speaker 2>why is it even PVPVE? And there's more like solo <v Speaker 2>stuff as well, because the solo stuff like even I <v Speaker 2>experienced this was not good in the beta, and like <v Speaker 2>you said before, there's also the whole plagiarism thing, so <v Speaker 2>they really need to go back to the drawing board <v Speaker 2>on that double down on quality control, like really luck <v Speaker 2>at you know the whole. <v Speaker 3>Art, well what went wrong? <v Speaker 2>Really, because you know, this isn't the first time or <v Speaker 2>even the second time that Bungie has been accused and <v Speaker 2>found guilty of something like this, So you know, if <v Speaker 2>they were a fourth time, especially now they're affiliated with <v Speaker 2>PlayStation like, it would be rough. So it's a challenging <v Speaker 2>time for Bungie. I think the delay is good for <v Speaker 2>the game, it's good for gamers, but I think honestly, <v Speaker 2>it's gonna it's gonna be really really tough, Like I <v Speaker 2>have insider information on this, Like yeah, I'll just say it, <v Speaker 2>like a lot of like the high level people in <v Speaker 2>Bungie have been concerned about Marathon since its inception. A <v Speaker 2>lot of people internally tried to get it, like canceled <v Speaker 2>because they didn't think it like the extraction shooter saturation <v Speaker 2>penetration was there, and it's clearly not. But I think <v Speaker 2>it's a there's a little bit of some cost fallacy goal. Yeah, <v Speaker 2>They've got so much money, so many resources into this <v Speaker 2>that I think they're going to keep going and I <v Speaker 2>think they will make an amazing game, but whether it <v Speaker 2>has its return on investment is another story, honestly. <v Speaker 1>Jeff yep Uh Yeah. I think that at a certain <v Speaker 1>point they crossed a point of no return with this <v Speaker 1>game where they have to this game has to perform, <v Speaker 1>and if it doesn't, then it's all up for Bungie <v Speaker 1>in terms of operating the way it has been. You know, <v Speaker 1>Sony acquired it. It's not going to shut down Bungie, <v Speaker 1>but it is going to clear out a lot of stuff, <v Speaker 1>probably after these games don't work out, you know, the <v Speaker 1>ongoing destiny to updates, which who knows. Maybe they're doing <v Speaker 1>well enough, but they seem to have it seems like <v Speaker 1>they have a threshold they have to cross of you know, <v Speaker 1>that's way higher than that game could ever do. Again, <v Speaker 1>and then and then over at Marathon, it's like that <v Speaker 1>game needs to be a blockbuster, smash hit, and it <v Speaker 1>just doesn't seem like that's in the cards. So you're right. <v Speaker 1>I think the sun cost fallacy is we got to <v Speaker 1>do this because we can't even think about what happens <v Speaker 1>if we can't deliver on this game. It has to deliver, <v Speaker 1>that's our only option on the table, and that that's <v Speaker 1>a terrible place to be. Last question on this and <v Speaker 1>then we'll move on running out of time here pretty soon. <v Speaker 1>Do you think that this like I know, when a <v Speaker 1>delay like this happens, especially late when you know this <v Speaker 1>game was going to come out this year, we always say, okay, <v Speaker 1>that they could do some stuff, but they can't really <v Speaker 1>change the fundamentals of what this game is. I'm I'm <v Speaker 1>of the opinion that like this is the one situation <v Speaker 1>where maybe that's not true. Maybe they are going to <v Speaker 1>try to fundamentally add at least if they're maybe they <v Speaker 1>won't remove the extraction stuff, although I wouldn't I personally <v Speaker 1>just actually wouldn't be surprised if they maybe consider it <v Speaker 1>and come back with a game that is a little <v Speaker 1>bit more palatable to a wider audience, or at least <v Speaker 1>easier to digest. I think people there are a lot <v Speaker 1>of people like extraction shooters, but that audience already seems <v Speaker 1>solidified in the way that like that the battle chat <v Speaker 1>or the auto chess genre got solidified super fast, where <v Speaker 1>it's like, Okay, we don't need twenty five of these <v Speaker 1>from twenty five different publishers, all trying to find out <v Speaker 1>they're still space in that and there everyone figured it <v Speaker 1>out pretty soon. It was team fight tactics and that's it. <v Speaker 1>Maybe a couple of others this is like the same thing. <v Speaker 1>And in some ways it's like the barrier to entry <v Speaker 1>to extraction shooters is so high, or learning the curve <v Speaker 1>there is so high that when people have decided on one, <v Speaker 1>they're not looking for another, And so Marathon just might <v Speaker 1>be in a bad situation unless it reintroduces itself as <v Speaker 1>a different game. I don't know. Do you think there's <v Speaker 1>a chance that could happen. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, absolutely, Like extraction shooters are very sweaty, like if <v Speaker 2>anybody who's played talk off, well, no, it's brutal. And <v Speaker 2>I think like they didn't outright say it in the <v Speaker 2>delay announcement, but they're like, yeah, we're going to focus <v Speaker 2>more on the you know, single player and no single <v Speaker 2>player like one person player and deo stuff, which to <v Speaker 2>me sounded like yeah, they're going to try and like <v Speaker 2>add something that's a little bit less intense because you know, <v Speaker 2>the extraction shooter thing like Tarkov has it cornered Call <v Speaker 2>of Duty, added a mode for it, and now has <v Speaker 2>removed that. <v Speaker 1>Right, I don't do that anymore. <v Speaker 2>Yeah, no, exact exactly. That's the Canary and the coal mine. <v Speaker 2>So this game was greenlit when you know, talk Off <v Speaker 2>was popping off and you know, like the extraction shoot <v Speaker 2>to hype is all there. But yeah, I think they <v Speaker 2>will they will try and separate themselves from that because <v Speaker 2>the core gunplay is amazing. It's Bungee, you know, like <v Speaker 2>that's their bread and butter. So the foundation is there, <v Speaker 2>so I think that's what they're doing. They're going back <v Speaker 2>to the drawing board slightly, trying to make it appeal <v Speaker 2>more to not than necessarily a mass market, but not <v Speaker 2>that niche extraction shooter market that isn't going to give <v Speaker 2>the retten On investment that Bungie is like on PlayStation <v Speaker 2>as well as poured into this game. <v Speaker 1>Yep, all right, last story here, Sony said to be <v Speaker 1>eyeing acquisition of Warner Brothers Discovery, streaming and games. This <v Speaker 1>comes from Alex Co at Dual Shockers. I'll read like <v Speaker 1>the list of like studios that PlayStation might acquire if <v Speaker 1>this were to go through Avalanche, which made Hogwarts, nether <v Speaker 1>Realm which makes Mortal Kombat, rock Steady, the Batman Arkham <v Speaker 1>series games which is the Lego Games people, WB Games <v Speaker 1>Montreal which is Batman Arkham Origins, and Gotham Knights in <v Speaker 1>WB Games Boston, which just Lord of the Rings online. <v Speaker 1>This would also potentially get them HBO Max as a <v Speaker 1>streaming service, which Sony might be interested in as they <v Speaker 1>kind of expand their their media empire, and maybe they <v Speaker 1>could put a lot of the anime they make. They <v Speaker 1>make all of the anime now Sony does for the <v Speaker 1>most part, and it's like, well, here's a place where <v Speaker 1>that stuff could really live for a mainstream audience. It <v Speaker 1>could sort of activate that anime in HBO Max to <v Speaker 1>like really kind of put these two things together. And honestly, <v Speaker 1>I think that's a bigger side of it for them <v Speaker 1>over at Sony, because you know, there's still the question of, Hey, <v Speaker 1>if you acquire these studios, do you get the IP <v Speaker 1>The way that the story makes it sound right now, <v Speaker 1>or the conversations around it, I guess make it sound like, oh, <v Speaker 1>they actually could at least get a license for a <v Speaker 1>lot of these IP in a way that makes this <v Speaker 1>acquisition work for them. I suppose that that's the case. Sure, <v Speaker 1>but that's a lot of people. That's a huge headcount <v Speaker 1>to add these six studios to an already pretty big <v Speaker 1>organization and whose last acquisition a Bungee, has been kind <v Speaker 1>of nothing but a headache. Yeah, I don't know, does <v Speaker 1>this sound Does this have the ring of truth to you? <v Speaker 2>I mean, yeah, you know there is a match and yeah, <v Speaker 2>like like you're kind of alluded to, alluded to, there <v Speaker 2>would probably be layoffs, which fucking sucks. Honestly, Yeah, it's <v Speaker 2>it's horrible, but yeah, there are a lot of strategic <v Speaker 2>benefits for PlayStation, you know, like the IP domination or <v Speaker 2>the IP that I think they would get. They would <v Speaker 2>not do this acquisition unless they have the IP. Honestly, <v Speaker 2>they already have like some of the best development studios <v Speaker 2>in the world. Like this isn't, as we say in <v Speaker 2>the consultant with like an aqui higher kind of thing. <v Speaker 3>But you know, if they got. <v Speaker 2>Exclusive rights to like Batman and Superman, you know, they <v Speaker 2>could bolster this superhero stuff, which they've already proven they <v Speaker 2>can do with Spider Man. They'd get Harry Potter, like <v Speaker 2>Hogwarts legacy. Like, yeah, trans discussing ship aside with JK. <v Speaker 2>Rowling is a very like profitable game, very powatable game <v Speaker 2>to a lot of people. <v Speaker 3>They'd get Mortal. <v Speaker 2>Kombat through nether Realm, right, and you know they they <v Speaker 2>they do EVO. They're really in the fighting game stuff. <v Speaker 2>They have the Marvel game and everything going that they did. <v Speaker 2>They showed it the state of play you know, Game <v Speaker 2>of Thrones, you know, Decay and IP. But you know, <v Speaker 2>they could add that into their repertoire. Obviously rock Steady <v Speaker 2>would be amazing, like the Nemesis System if they got <v Speaker 2>that through Monolith. There's a lot of cool stuff they <v Speaker 2>could do with like Greek gods and like stuff with <v Speaker 2>the Nemesisystem for God of War. <v Speaker 3>But yeah, it does. <v Speaker 2>It does make a lot of sense. But there are <v Speaker 2>challenges as well, like anti trust scrutiny, which is not <v Speaker 2>as much as a thing anymore in the US with Trump. <v Speaker 2>Financial burden, which is one thing they've really kind of <v Speaker 2>struggled with with you know, Bungie, we're just talking about <v Speaker 2>they really paid a premium for that that hasn't given <v Speaker 2>a return on investment. You know, a lot of revenue <v Speaker 2>for Warner Brothers games comes from other platforms, which would <v Speaker 2>be good for PlayStation because they're trying to increase the <v Speaker 2>like total addressable market. But like the the integration of <v Speaker 2>the studios, I think it's like over two thousand employees there. <v Speaker 3>There will there will be layoffs. <v Speaker 2>There will be like marketing people, pr people that aren't <v Speaker 2>needed in Sony's opinion, in the Sony machine. <v Speaker 3>So there's that. <v Speaker 2>So yeah, I mean it does seem like a like <v Speaker 2>I'm not you know, I don't know if it's going <v Speaker 2>to happen, but it makes sense, right, but there are <v Speaker 2>risks and there will be fallout of it. Does happen <v Speaker 2>every single acquisition, a big acquisition in the past four <v Speaker 2>years in the games industry has led to some kind <v Speaker 2>of layoffs. <v Speaker 1>So yeah, yep, yeah, yeah, And it's this point in <v Speaker 1>this one it feels like it could be extremely right <v Speaker 1>because it's just like that's all, it's just a huge headcount, <v Speaker 1>so many people. All right, that does it for the headlines. <v Speaker 1>Let's get to the poll question from yesterday, which I <v Speaker 1>honestly just posted like ten minutes ago. But hey, we <v Speaker 1>got some results for that right here. Let me refresh <v Speaker 1>see how many voice votes we actually ended up getting <v Speaker 1>right around two hundred and fifty votes. All right, are <v Speaker 1>you going to get Donkey Kong Bonanza? Fifty two percent <v Speaker 1>said yes, nine percent said no, and thirty nine percent <v Speaker 1>said I don't have a switch to. So that's that <v Speaker 1>tells me Donkey Kong Binanza is going to do just fine. <v Speaker 1>That sounds like the kind of numbers where that feels <v Speaker 1>like the next Mario Kart where it's like, hey, I <v Speaker 1>got to switch to I have to have Donkey Kong. <v Speaker 1>And that game looked really good in that direct yesterday. <v Speaker 1>Did you get a chance to watch that? Oh? <v Speaker 3>Yeah, it looked so good. <v Speaker 2>Like I was kind of apprehensive after the demos and everything, <v Speaker 2>but they've really kind of shown the feature set. I <v Speaker 2>like the how would you call it, like the environmental stuff. <v Speaker 1>Yeah, it's going to be Dix and stuff like that <v Speaker 1>without a doubt. <v Speaker 2>And really like I'm trying to figure out though, like <v Speaker 2>do you have any information on this? Is it the <v Speaker 2>Mario Odyssey team or is it somebody else, because like <v Speaker 2>the animations and a lot of the UI look very similar. <v Speaker 2>But I wish Nintendo would just say this stuff like <v Speaker 2>give you're studios the dos right. <v Speaker 1>Like yep, everyone, look at me. It's the Mario Odyssey team. <v Speaker 1>Just yes, it just is everybody. Do they have support <v Speaker 1>from other studios maybe, but this is the Mario Odyssey team. <v Speaker 1>All right. Yeah that's that's as much as I could <v Speaker 1>say about that. I'll just butt just like, look at me, <v Speaker 1>trust me on this one, everybody, it's the Mario Odyssey team. Yeah. There, <v Speaker 1>there you go. Okay, let's see here for the next <v Speaker 1>full question. We'll get to that here in a second. <v Speaker 1>So that means at this point we say, hey, resell it. <v Speaker 1>Where can people find you on the internet? What do <v Speaker 1>you have going on? What do you want to tell people? <v Speaker 1>All that good stuff? <v Speaker 3>Yeah, you can find me on Blue Sky. <v Speaker 2>I'm super Reese on the also on LinkedIn, which is <v Speaker 2>more of a business thing, but I'm Resaliot on the <v Speaker 2>I also have a new newsletter. Actually we've been doing <v Speaker 2>it about a month now. It's called a Linya Insight <v Speaker 2>on Substack. I'm actually publishing a new edition like right <v Speaker 2>after this podcast. So if you want to get like <v Speaker 2>any date or on new releases, top games on Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, <v Speaker 2>and like a couple of spicy takes, I think check <v Speaker 2>it out. Yeah, that's me. That's where you can find me. <v Speaker 2>It's been what pleasure as always, Jeff. <v Speaker 1>Absolutely. What was the name of the substack mailing list <v Speaker 1>letter again. <v Speaker 3>A Lina Insight. <v Speaker 1>Okay, we're gonna check that out right now. Fantastic, Yeah, Bo, <v Speaker 1>Thank you Reese for being on the show. I really <v Speaker 1>appreciate it. We have a new poll question, did you <v Speaker 1>buy any third party games for switch To? Yes? <v Speaker 3>No? <v Speaker 1>Or I don't have a switch to. We'll get the <v Speaker 1>results of that on Games Morning's tomorrow here on Giant <v Speaker 1>Bomb speaking a Giant Bomb. In about an hour, I'm <v Speaker 1>gonna get set up to play some Gex trilogy. We're <v Speaker 1>gonna do our guest education here on the on the <v Speaker 1>website with Audie Sorely from Limit to Run Games. Who <v Speaker 1>is gonna sit in with that with me. We're gonna <v Speaker 1>hang out and play some of those games for about <v Speaker 1>an hour and then we'll have voicemail dump Trucks. So <v Speaker 1>I have to get set up for that as well, <v Speaker 1>because we're gonna go right into that. So yeah, gonna <v Speaker 1>be a good Thursday, and then tomorrow we'll be back <v Speaker 1>with let's see, we're gonna have a upf have a <v Speaker 1>normal Thursday or normal Friday, kind of all that stuff. <v Speaker 1>I think we're gonna do firebreaks still, although I'm kind <v Speaker 1>of feeling like, I don't know, I'm not super in <v Speaker 1>the mood for the game now. That sounds kind of <v Speaker 1>mid but whatever, it's probably still worth trying. Maybe we'll <v Speaker 1>play it for a little bit and then try something else. <v Speaker 1>All right, new poll question. I already did that, So <v Speaker 1>what I actually do now is say, hey, resell it. <v Speaker 1>Thank you for being on the show Man. I really <v Speaker 1>appreciate it. <v Speaker 4>Yeah, it's been a blast, lover every time. <v Speaker 3>Always have fun. <v Speaker 1>Yep, it's great. So thank you everyone <v Speaker 1>for listening, Thank you everyone for watching. You're the best <v Speaker 1>audience in gaming. Until next time, have a good one, <v Speaker 1>take care of yourself, and goodbye. Fi
