<v Speaker 2>I was watching, and I noticed when the TV falls

<v Speaker 2>yellow cables. Ah, so it's not an HDTV. Did we
<v Speaker 2>have HDMI cables in two thousand and nine whenever this
<v Speaker 2>season was?
<v Speaker 1>I get the feeling that probably they did have those
<v Speaker 1>in some kind of transitional period. Yeah, I mean they're
<v Speaker 1>still around. I've still got bungles of the red, yellow
<v Speaker 1>and white wires or whatever sort of lurking around the house.
<v Speaker 1>I'm like, I'm not even going to use these again.
<v Speaker 1>But then I've got that man thing of like, don't
<v Speaker 1>throw it out.
<v Speaker 2>I need it. I keep so many cables and I'll
<v Speaker 2>have three of them the draw and I go, never
<v Speaker 2>have too many. Oh yeah, I'll put another one in there.
<v Speaker 2>Have you ever seen that video?
<v Speaker 1>It's clearly a father and son or something, and you
<v Speaker 1>know the son is putting.
<v Speaker 2>A bed together.
<v Speaker 1>It's like, oh, if only we had a piece of
<v Speaker 1>wood that was kind of diagonal. It has to be
<v Speaker 1>like four inches by three inches, and the dad just
<v Speaker 1>go runs down ship rummsy boxes.
<v Speaker 2>Finally got it. They are so happy when it's like,
<v Speaker 2>I've been given this thing for twenty year, I've had
<v Speaker 2>a need for it exactly. Yeah, so we're we're hoarders
<v Speaker 2>in that regard. But as long as the fits in
<v Speaker 2>the one draw though out of the way before in.
<v Speaker 1>A draw in a box underneath the desk or something
<v Speaker 1>like that. Yeah, no, I'd never I hadn't really sort
<v Speaker 1>of paid attention to the fact that they had the
<v Speaker 1>wires coming off the HDTV so to speak.
<v Speaker 2>I got the feeling that before we all went with
<v Speaker 2>the cable, it's full HD that requires the HD MY cables.
<v Speaker 2>It could be full HD resolution of the ninety because
<v Speaker 2>because HD was just it's just seven twenty, isn't it.
<v Speaker 2>It was my understanding when we started this podcast that
<v Speaker 2>there will be no science. I think it's just seven
<v Speaker 2>to twenty P and then ten ADPs. Maybe that requires
<v Speaker 2>the HDMO cable. Either way, the way it looks a
<v Speaker 2>lot sharper it does, indeed. Yeah, And I think the
<v Speaker 2>Simpsons does improve. I think it needed to upgrade the
<v Speaker 2>quality of the video the animation as well. I think
<v Speaker 2>people saw us up they go, no, it's not the
<v Speaker 2>same as the old animation, and blah blah blah, and
<v Speaker 2>what we fear change, we do fear change. And I
<v Speaker 2>was firmly in that category for a long time. And
<v Speaker 2>then I had kids and I put the old ones on,
<v Speaker 2>and the kids go, why these ones don't look as
<v Speaker 2>good as the other ones? And I go, you're right,
<v Speaker 2>you know what, as nostalgic as I am for these
<v Speaker 2>classic animations, and it's great, and the idea was hand drawn.
<v Speaker 2>It's classic cartoon's classic animation. The HD Simpsons does look better.
<v Speaker 2>Oh yeah, much easier on the eye.
<v Speaker 1>Even someone like me who grew up on the vintage
<v Speaker 1>stuff will has a real appreciation for classic Simpsons.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I'll look at some of the old episodes and go like,
<v Speaker 1>do I need to wipe my glasses or something, because
<v Speaker 1>they seem sort of fuzzy and out of focus and
<v Speaker 1>as we say, not as sharp.
<v Speaker 2>I think season four, maybe season four, maybe season five,
<v Speaker 2>whether their eyes seemed too big for the entire season. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I think personally, my favorite design of the Simpsons is
<v Speaker 2>season seven eight ish. It's my favorite ear of the
<v Speaker 2>Simpsons as well. I just think that just they found
<v Speaker 2>the right balance of cartoonish but also just realism, and
<v Speaker 2>just the animation. It's clean, it's nice, it's tidy, and
<v Speaker 2>then anything beforehand, it's it's good, but it's it's still time.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah yeah, yeah, And a lot of people won't watch the
<v Speaker 2>first season because I think the animation is just terrible,
<v Speaker 2>and I'm not in that regal. If the content is good,
<v Speaker 2>it's good, right. I'm sure there's many good episodes in
<v Speaker 2>that first season of the Simpsons, but it's just a thing.
<v Speaker 2>Now if you look at the HD Simpsons, it does
<v Speaker 2>look better. Yeah, oh yeah. I would be intrigued to
<v Speaker 2>see and I know people have said this is blasphemy.
<v Speaker 2>I would be intrigued to see some of the classic
<v Speaker 2>era episodes like remastered and or redrawn in HD. People
<v Speaker 2>are saying, you can't do that, you wouldn't never do that,
<v Speaker 2>it's terrible. I'd just be in greaged to see what
<v Speaker 2>it would look like.
<v Speaker 1>Well, provided you didn't absolutely throw out the original like okay,
<v Speaker 1>whether they're in the bin or they've been deleted from
<v Speaker 1>the hard Drivers.
<v Speaker 2>I'm like, no, no, no, no, may get a fun option on
<v Speaker 2>the DVD or something, experiment. Yeah, exactly right. Yeah. And
<v Speaker 2>they did do it in the Treuse of Horror simpson
<v Speaker 2>Land that Matt Salmon wrote, where they were at the
<v Speaker 2>Simpsons World at the theme park, and it was they
<v Speaker 2>redrew Mars the monorail a little moment from that in
<v Speaker 2>the HD, and it looked cool. It was weird to
<v Speaker 2>take it in because it sounds the same but it
<v Speaker 2>looks different. Well. Yeah, as we often say about you know,
<v Speaker 2>say the Star Wars special istions, it's like someone doodling
<v Speaker 2>on your dreams. Yeah, because you're all so used to well,
<v Speaker 2>this is the way that story goes, so this is
<v Speaker 2>the way it looks, and this is the way it sounds.
<v Speaker 2>And if you sharpen it up audio wise, visual wise,
<v Speaker 2>you might be going, wait a minute, no, no, no, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>you feel a bit of cognitive dissonance in your in
<v Speaker 2>your head and in your heart. No, I'd be all
<v Speaker 2>for them doing that, yeah, provided you still kept the
<v Speaker 2>originals or pick five classics or something. Margress the monorail.
<v Speaker 2>I don't really think it's an interesting thing. I think
<v Speaker 2>it's a really good idea. Even the first episode, I'd
<v Speaker 2>love to see Shorts is roasting on open fire in HD. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>i'd love to see them do that. And maybe because
<v Speaker 2>you've got the wide screen, you can add in visual
<v Speaker 2>gags in the background things, making it a making a
<v Speaker 2>modern version of the original.
<v Speaker 1>Absolutely, yeah, No, I honestly think they should do it.
<v Speaker 1>I think it'd be a really good gesture to veteran
<v Speaker 1>Simpsons fans. And you know, it's bridging the gap between
<v Speaker 1>young and the young, the old, the older than you.

<v Speaker 2>at the moment where I'm realizing. It was about a
<v Speaker 2>month ago I realized I'm getting really out of touch
<v Speaker 2>with what young people enjoy. I realized I'm getting to

<v Speaker 2>the kids were asking they want to watch this show
<v Speaker 2>called K Pop Demon Hunters, and I was like on Netflix, yah,
<v Speaker 2>and I'm like, you're not watching that shit, no, commit
<v Speaker 2>listen to the songs BLA. I'm like no, no, no,
<v Speaker 2>you're fucking putting this stuff on. And then I was like,
<v Speaker 2>yesterday in the car went can we listen to it please?
<v Speaker 2>And I was like whatever, and I put it on.
<v Speaker 2>I didn't like it, but I was like, you know what,
<v Speaker 2>it's important to be on the pulse and know what
<v Speaker 2>kids are enjoying. Well, here's the thing.
<v Speaker 1>We talk about popular culture on our very shows and
<v Speaker 1>the Full Finger Disco Network. It's The Simpsons, South all
<v Speaker 1>that kind of stuff.
<v Speaker 2>Now these shows are still.
<v Speaker 1>Going and they're still appealing to well, they're appealing to
<v Speaker 1>current audiences young, yes, all that kind of stuff. So yeah,
<v Speaker 1>I mean as much as we're kind of like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>it was great back in the nineties or the two
<v Speaker 1>thousands or whatever, it's like, eventually we're going to have
<v Speaker 1>to catch up to stuff that was happening in the
<v Speaker 1>twenty tens or the twenty twenties or whatever. So yeah,
<v Speaker 1>it's important to as difficult as it may be for
<v Speaker 1>old gentlemen like myself getting older, there's younger people Like
<v Speaker 1>I said, no, no, you do have to keep your
<v Speaker 1>finger on the pulse.
<v Speaker 2>It's tough though, it really is. Yeah. Apparently ca Pop
<v Speaker 2>Demon I was just really good. I looked it up
<v Speaker 2>and it said not suitable for kids under ten because
<v Speaker 2>there's a lot of death and that kind of stuff,
<v Speaker 2>And I think it's I think it's more for adolescens. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>but it's well, all the kids are talking about the moment,
<v Speaker 2>but you didn't like the song, apparently. I was listening
<v Speaker 2>to some other podcasts were telling the song's actually kind
<v Speaker 2>of bangers. I listened to a really good K pop songs,
<v Speaker 2>so yeah, I'm not into that, and I'm just like
<v Speaker 2>one song just blended into the other and I was like,
<v Speaker 2>this just feels it's just not my style. But I'm like, okay,
<v Speaker 2>so this is what the kids are listening to. Now.
<v Speaker 2>I need to make sure I'm aware. So I don't
<v Speaker 2>want to be that uncool dad. I don't want to
<v Speaker 2>be that guys, you're not listening to new stuff, listen
<v Speaker 2>to the stuff from the nineties. You've talked about it
<v Speaker 2>before in the past, where it's important that you don't
<v Speaker 2>just make your kids listen and watch the stuff from
<v Speaker 2>your childhood, because then they will become unpopular because like, no,
<v Speaker 2>we're into this shit, that's what this is today, and
<v Speaker 2>that they'll they'll get left behind. Yeah, yeah, there's I've
<v Speaker 2>mentioned it many times. The story on the Onion, that's
<v Speaker 2>what you're talking about. It.
<v Speaker 1>It's like a parent raise his child and pop culture
<v Speaker 1>die that will make child immediately unpopular. Yes, yeah, you've
<v Speaker 1>got the parents sort of thrusting. I think it's talking
<v Speaker 1>heads remain in lives, like listen to this, No.
<v Speaker 2>No, let them enjoy modern stuff. But also I think
<v Speaker 2>if you can, if you if your kids can be
<v Speaker 2>aware of what's popular now and also understand and enjoy
<v Speaker 2>stuff in the past, that's a great blend.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, if you're someone who wants to raise your
<v Speaker 1>kids in a cultural or artistic sort of environment, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>you've got to show on the through line. It's like, okay,
<v Speaker 1>you're like k pop Demon Hunters. I'm guessing it might
<v Speaker 1>have been inspired by something. Oh you know, there's a
<v Speaker 1>song from k pop Demon Huns that sounds a bit
<v Speaker 1>like sugar Rush from Recke at Ralph for instance. Maybe
<v Speaker 1>listen to that, and then you know what, they might
<v Speaker 1>have a link to something from the nineties or the
<v Speaker 1>eighties or whatever. And yes, yeah, you're not doing it
<v Speaker 1>as homework, but you're saying this was influenced by this,
<v Speaker 1>that influences that influences this. It's all part of a
<v Speaker 1>continuum and it's just an expansion of their education. I
<v Speaker 1>think that's important. Yeah, and just like any back to
<v Speaker 1>the Simpsons. When people say modern Simpsons are crap, it's like,
<v Speaker 1>you know, like, yes, it's not in the same quality,
<v Speaker 1>But I am telling you, I put my kids in
<v Speaker 1>front of that TV. They'll watch classic Simpsons, they love it.
<v Speaker 1>But they will also sit there and just binge wash
<v Speaker 1>modern Simpsons and they enjoy that as well. You know,
<v Speaker 1>So just be aware, don't be an old fight duddy
<v Speaker 1>shaking your fist at the cloud.
<v Speaker 2>HD. Simpsons is not might be made for you, but
<v Speaker 2>it's made for somebody, and it's my kids generation.
<v Speaker 1>I get the feeling that when The Simpsons actually made
<v Speaker 1>the joke about old man yells at cloud they weren't
<v Speaker 1>endorsing yelling at clouds kind of like, yeah, this is
<v Speaker 1>what you do when you get sort of stuck in
<v Speaker 1>your way.
<v Speaker 2>That's what you look like.
<v Speaker 1>You do something silly like get out of that. Yeah, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>don't do it.
<v Speaker 2>No, don't do it.
<v Speaker 1>Indeed, I'm not saying that someone of my age or

<v Speaker 1>there may be some good stuff out there. Now this
<v Speaker 1>season here, I'm not gonna lie. This was the hardest
<v Speaker 1>for me to pick a top five, not because there
<v Speaker 1>were so many good ones, because I struggled to remember
<v Speaker 1>a lot of the early ones. I think because we've
<v Speaker 1>dragged this season out a bit more with sort of
<v Speaker 1>reviews and that kind of thing. So it's been a
<v Speaker 1>long top those first couple of four or five episodes,
<v Speaker 1>I went, what the hell are they about?
<v Speaker 2>Again? So I had to go back, and when I
<v Speaker 2>went through my notes, I went, oh, yeah, I really
<v Speaker 2>enjoyed that one, really enjoyed that one. So I picked
<v Speaker 2>my top five. It's going to be in no particular order. Likewise, yes,
<v Speaker 2>and I'm gonna try and guess your top five now.
<v Speaker 2>So let me just get up the Simpsons season twenty.
<v Speaker 2>I haven't done it yet. Simpson's Season twenty A quick
<v Speaker 2>skim through. I reckon your top five will be in
<v Speaker 2>no particular order. I reckon you'll have sex pires and
<v Speaker 2>idiot scrapes, so treoso horror is left out. Yes, may

<v Speaker 2>tell you. Well, for me, it was mainly what stuck
<v Speaker 2>at was I love gildgunders and being good at something

<v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, I mean that's I won't say that it's
<v Speaker 1>necessarily what you expect from the Simpsons, but sometimes it's good.
<v Speaker 1>When it's always great. When hey we got the star
<v Speaker 1>de Zure sort of to go back to what we
<v Speaker 1>were talking about, Oh we have Billy Eilish on board,
<v Speaker 1>it's like, Wow, you still got a fair bit of cloud.
<v Speaker 1>You've still got a fair bit of relevance in that
<v Speaker 1>regard that someone like one of the biggest stars in
<v Speaker 1>the world, one of the biggest pop stars in the world,
<v Speaker 1>is going to go, yeah, I'll be part of the Simpsons, absolutely,
<v Speaker 1>But when you can ye get in names who are
<v Speaker 1>rock stars among a certain type of person like Will.
<v Speaker 2>Shorts, I like mel Reels. Yeah, that's pretty great that
<v Speaker 2>you want to do it that way.
<v Speaker 1>So I think it was just Yeah, mainly, I like
<v Speaker 1>what you said about Gil having a bit of a
<v Speaker 1>heel turn as well. I mean, there's only so long
<v Speaker 1>that a character can be a punching bag. You know,
<v Speaker 1>you need a little bit of a worm turn moment,
<v Speaker 1>even if they even if that turn is a heel turn.
<v Speaker 2>I think he needed this for me because I didn't
<v Speaker 2>like him after Kill Gil volume one and two. There
<v Speaker 2>was that absolutely, Yeah, I know he was a bit
<v Speaker 2>of a well a moocher, a moocher and a prick. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>and willingly being a mucher as well. It wasn't just
<v Speaker 2>he was pathetic and he need he was down and
<v Speaker 2>his luck. It was Oh no, he's just being a moocher. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>that's right, Yeah, taking advantage, taking advantage. Yeah, you think
<v Speaker 2>that after the life that he's lived and the losses
<v Speaker 2>that he's had to be like h but then maybe
<v Speaker 2>after that situation is probably oh okay, no, he maybe
<v Speaker 2>he would take advantage. Maybe that would sort of poison him.
<v Speaker 1>Look, it was again it was it sort of ran
<v Speaker 1>along familiar tracks, the whole exchange cross words thing with
<v Speaker 1>the Homer release and not quite understanding each other.
<v Speaker 2>But by the ends, oh yeah they at the end
<v Speaker 2>didn't that's right. Yeah, yeah, which was with the money
<v Speaker 2>he could he bet against her, that's right, which is.
<v Speaker 1>A nice enough touch. It's sort of Laura diminishing returns
<v Speaker 1>in some ways, like how many times can he go
<v Speaker 1>back to this particular daughter? Yeah, daddy daughter kind of done.
<v Speaker 1>It was sick of margin Homer being annoyed with each other.
<v Speaker 1>Let's go to lease to one another but no, And
<v Speaker 1>also had an appearance by a guy that I really like,
<v Speaker 1>Scott Thompson from the Canadian comedy troupe Kids in the Hall,
<v Speaker 1>So anytime he shows up pretty happy about that. So yeah, look,
<v Speaker 1>I thought it was a kind of a fun episode.
<v Speaker 1>I know we're not doing this in a particular order,
<v Speaker 1>but it's probably sort of down the list of of
<v Speaker 1>my top five, but it was one that I liked.
<v Speaker 2>Was the one that I've replaced it with. I'm going
<v Speaker 2>to throw in any teeny Mo. Yeah. I feel like
<v Speaker 2>Moe is probably one of the best handled characters in
<v Speaker 2>modern seasons or in the more modern seasons that we've
<v Speaker 2>done so far. Yeah, I think they give him real
<v Speaker 2>empathy for others. He's more considerate when he needs to be.
<v Speaker 2>He still has classic Mo moments, but I think overall,
<v Speaker 2>like this one. In particular, this was Mo being a
<v Speaker 2>genuinely good person and he wanted to be better, and
<v Speaker 2>he made the effort to not be make the obvious
<v Speaker 2>jokes because of Maya's height and whatnot, because she was
<v Speaker 2>a little person, and even when he knew she was
<v Speaker 2>a little person, that's like, you know what, this person
<v Speaker 2>is beautiful on the inside as well as the outside.
<v Speaker 2>She's a great person. She loves me, and the fact
<v Speaker 2>that she loves me, I'm just only give her all
<v Speaker 2>of me as well in return.
<v Speaker 1>Absolutely, it goes to what we were saying about Gill
<v Speaker 1>as well. There's only so long a character can be
<v Speaker 1>the punching bag or the whipping boy. You've got to
<v Speaker 1>give him a win every once in a while, or
<v Speaker 1>you've got to show a little bit more about him now.
<v Speaker 1>I think for Mo over the course of the show
<v Speaker 1>up to this season and maybe beyond, it's like, oh, well,
<v Speaker 1>he's wildly inappropriate, or he's just self loathing or whatever,
<v Speaker 1>basically the butt of the joke, gradually gradually gradually throughout
<v Speaker 1>the course of the show, this showing oh no, look,
<v Speaker 1>he's good at heart, even though it takes a while
<v Speaker 1>for that to sort of reach the surface, and he
<v Speaker 1>will merely sort of trip himself up or be his
<v Speaker 1>own worst enemy. I think this was a really good
<v Speaker 1>episode in terms of like showing the best parts of himself,
<v Speaker 1>all the really good parts of himself, and yeah, allowing
<v Speaker 1>those to outweigh what he does wrong. Either consciously or unconsciously,
<v Speaker 1>it's on my list as well.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah for me. You know, when he makes the jokes
<v Speaker 2>at her expense, when I think it's as we proposed
<v Speaker 2>to her, maybe I'm not too sure he's at her place.
<v Speaker 2>That wasn't him going, I'll finally can make these jokes.
<v Speaker 2>He was like, Oh, okay, we're cool. Now we can
<v Speaker 2>make these jokes. It's not like he's been sitting on
<v Speaker 2>it and wanting to do it. No, No, this is
<v Speaker 2>something that we talked about. When we talk about it
<v Speaker 2>was over the fact that you know, when you reach
<v Speaker 2>a stage of comfort and confidence with so we can
<v Speaker 2>far in front of each other now, oh yeah, that's it.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, the first kiss, first fart thing. Yeah, But that
<v Speaker 1>you can take the piss out of one another, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>and do it in ways is like, I know this
<v Speaker 1>is your sensitive spot, but you should be confident enough
<v Speaker 1>with me as I am confident enough with you and
<v Speaker 1>comfortable enough with you. That's like I'll kneel your insecurities
<v Speaker 1>a little bit. But you can do the same to
<v Speaker 1>me again because you know that if anyone else ever
<v Speaker 1>did this to you, I'd break their neck because exactly.
<v Speaker 2>But if he's not when someone mocks where you're from
<v Speaker 2>or whatever. It's like, I can mock one from you're
<v Speaker 2>not from, you can from man, we can we can
<v Speaker 2>talk shit. Yeah you say nothing. Yeah. But in that
<v Speaker 2>moment though, he did go a little bit too hard.
<v Speaker 2>But that's just MO because he's not used to being
<v Speaker 2>in this situation.
<v Speaker 1>It's just like, yeah, it's an absolute sort of rush
<v Speaker 1>of emotion, you know, it's when you first fall in
<v Speaker 1>love with someone. It's yeah, it's kind of like, oh,
<v Speaker 1>it's almost like you can take it in exhale.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah. Oh, And he goes a little bit too far
<v Speaker 2>when he's going to try and shorten himself to make
<v Speaker 2>her feel it's like he just goes too far trying
<v Speaker 2>to fix things, which is classic MO, and then her
<v Speaker 2>leaving him and him just going you know what, at
<v Speaker 2>least it's like you said, it's better to have been
<v Speaker 2>loved than to have never been loved at all.

<v Speaker 2>touch on. But also Marge with her erotic cakes, yes,
<v Speaker 2>which was a fun side plot. I think. Yes, it's
<v Speaker 2>always nice seeing Marge be appreciated for a talent she's got. Granted,
<v Speaker 2>by the end, we always it's just threw it at
<v Speaker 2>the window back to, but she was really good at this,
<v Speaker 2>and it's just nice seeing Marge willing to sort of
<v Speaker 2>drop a garden and go, oh, I'm making dick cakes
<v Speaker 2>but whatever. You know, that's okay because you're trying to
<v Speaker 2>hide for everybody going on. She's almost like embarrassed by it.

<v Speaker 2>Homer's got a bounty on him, and Flanders has the
<v Speaker 2>great moment of well, I'm going to do it, almost
<v Speaker 2>to protect Homer because you see these other dangerous We've
<v Speaker 2>convintional out bunty hunters because you can say, and who
<v Speaker 2>are going to probably kill him or beat him up,
<v Speaker 2>so's I'll do it. And then Home say Flanders. It's
<v Speaker 2>always nice seeing Homer and Flanders get along together, and
<v Speaker 2>they made a great team in this episode. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Thing, I mean, we're always very fond of the fact
<v Speaker 1>that Home is a bit of a dick. To Flanders,
<v Speaker 1>you know, always sort of a guards and it was
<v Speaker 1>like a bit I'm done with that gag now, I'm over,
<v Speaker 1>I think a little bit. Yeah, a little bit player.
<v Speaker 2>There's been too much evolution of the characters for that.
<v Speaker 2>That was a fun gag at the beginning because he
<v Speaker 2>didn't really know much about their relationship. Yeah, it was
<v Speaker 2>our home is relatable. He's that because I don't think
<v Speaker 2>the Homer of nineteen ninety one or nineteen ninety is
<v Speaker 2>relatable in twenty twenty five. The character is similar but
<v Speaker 2>also evolved as well. I just don't think. I just
<v Speaker 2>don't think people relate to the al Bundis of the
<v Speaker 2>world anymore. Okay, maybe now because people are kind of
<v Speaker 2>gone too far, yeah back a bit. Maybe because it's
<v Speaker 2>so different from what we're expecting now. But I just
<v Speaker 2>don't think you've gotta find that balance of Albundi and Tanner.
<v Speaker 2>Daddy Tanner that his full house. Oh yeah, yeah, yea, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>yeah yeah. So I was thinking more like Phil Dumphy
<v Speaker 2>from a Modern Family. Yeah, okay, yeah, see, I know
<v Speaker 2>I was never a Modern Family fan. I've never liked
<v Speaker 2>the quirky, random humor. I'm not a huge fan of show,
<v Speaker 2>but I'm very much like what Tyberrell brought to the table. Yeah, character,
<v Speaker 2>So I just don't think the Simpsons, like just the
<v Speaker 2>Homo Simpson character as a still into nineteen ninety is
<v Speaker 2>related on twenty twenty five, Which is why I just
<v Speaker 2>don't think him being rude to his neighbor for the
<v Speaker 2>second being, because that's just what that was. The sick
<v Speaker 2>confliche wasn't it was.

<v Speaker 1>always viewed it as a little bit of envy and
<v Speaker 1>a little bit of self loathing on Homer's parts, like

<v Speaker 1>too much of a goodie good as opposed to just

<v Speaker 2>But they made Flanders more sympathetic now because in the
<v Speaker 2>original series, like in the original run, the early run,
<v Speaker 2>he had it all basically that she would want. He's
<v Speaker 2>lost his wife, now he's going to raise he's a
<v Speaker 2>single father, he's not always other things that have come
<v Speaker 2>his way. Well, film or sympathetic for Flat as well.
<v Speaker 2>Now when Home makes fun of You're like, I'm kind
<v Speaker 2>of on a Flannder side now not home side. Well,
<v Speaker 2>the game a few scars, I mean, yeah, yeah, lost
<v Speaker 2>his business, lost his home, lost his wife alle Yeah yeah,
<v Speaker 2>So it's like you're kind of rooting for Flanders more
<v Speaker 2>than you're rooting for Homer. But yeah, I enjoyed. I
<v Speaker 2>enjoyed the episode. Indeed, the next one I'm going to

<v Speaker 1>No, it is the first one in high definition that
<v Speaker 1>took a little getting used to. I mean, changing horses

<v Speaker 1>in high definition as opposed to we got ten episodes
<v Speaker 1>in standard and then were nine episodes in standard, and
<v Speaker 1>then with episode ten is like, wow, look how bright

<v Speaker 2>It is, as in what I've watched the rest of
<v Speaker 2>the season. Do you think, oh, or the brand new
<v Speaker 2>season n HD? Yeah, go, I was a big fan
<v Speaker 2>of it at the time. I think I discussed this
<v Speaker 2>on the podcast. It felt exciting. It felt like The
<v Speaker 2>Simpsons was entering modern times because it just felt like
<v Speaker 2>the future because everything was in HD by that point.
<v Speaker 2>The Simpsons were still the four three and I'm like,
<v Speaker 2>it's just still seem like that old cartoon that I
<v Speaker 2>watched when I was kidding, never watched when they were kids.
<v Speaker 2>Being AHTIF felt like it was fresh cool again for
<v Speaker 2>me anyway. But yeah, I know, I don't think my
<v Speaker 2>opinion would have changed all that much of it was
<v Speaker 2>at the year of the season or mid season.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, just I find it interesting that they decided at
<v Speaker 1>the tenth episode it's like, zing, it's time.

<v Speaker 1>Look, there's a lot to sort of be about in
<v Speaker 1>this episode, and particularly the sort of using the Italian restaurants, sources,
<v Speaker 1>the this is.
<v Speaker 2>A source one.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, as the way of looking into the future, all
<v Speaker 1>the way of looking into alternate realities or the way
<v Speaker 1>things could have gone. I'm not a huge fan of that.
<v Speaker 1>I don't think it's all that well thought out. But
<v Speaker 1>I'm just a sucker for sliding doors sort of stories,
<v Speaker 1>or it's like what if kind of stories.
<v Speaker 2>My memory may be foggy, but is this the one
<v Speaker 2>that has the guy coming back to Springford at the
<v Speaker 2>start that we didn't really care about it. It's advance, Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>and then they have the war at the end when
<v Speaker 2>Homer enters the Wall of Famous what.
<v Speaker 1>I guess I'd probably like the first half of this
<v Speaker 1>episode more than I like the second half. I mean,
<v Speaker 1>I don't think I don't think it resolves itself all
<v Speaker 1>that well, and that whole plot device with the Italian
<v Speaker 1>restaurant is not great. But yeah, as I said, just
<v Speaker 1>a sucker for a could have been this way.
<v Speaker 2>So the basic story of that was Homer realized that
<v Speaker 2>the election was rigged. I actually had had the because
<v Speaker 2>didn't the super not the principal. He rigged it deliberately
<v Speaker 2>so that Homy would move because he knew it was
<v Speaker 2>going to be for the wrong reason. Yeah, he knew that. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>that was the story.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, yeah, we're electing Homers just so we can take
<v Speaker 1>the pit. It's like, yeah, it's like, I think you're cool,
<v Speaker 1>Homer Simpson.
<v Speaker 2>That was mean.
<v Speaker 1>It's like carry you know where they make the prom
<v Speaker 1>queen and then they just done the pig. But yeah,
<v Speaker 1>there's going to be a similar situation.
<v Speaker 2>Well that Dondling who it is, Yeah, because they've always
<v Speaker 2>had that rivalry. But it was nice. It was a
<v Speaker 2>nice moment for Dondling. Was the character to go, I
<v Speaker 2>can see what's going on here. Even though I don't
<v Speaker 2>really like this, I know that it wouldn't be right
<v Speaker 2>of me to allow this.
<v Speaker 1>That you've got a responsibility as an educator and authority
<v Speaker 1>figure to make sure they don't take too many hits.
<v Speaker 2>So I think that's the main reason that I enjoyed it.
<v Speaker 2>I thought, yeah it it had a good heart, and
<v Speaker 2>it also just had a storyline that or apploped the
<v Speaker 2>bars that I tend to really enjoy. I remember being
<v Speaker 2>a fan of Home wanting to live in the sauce.
<v Speaker 2>I think he jumps into the it was a nice
<v Speaker 2>looking sauce sometimes you know, a good napoli sauce is
<v Speaker 2>just what you need. Do you find when you go
<v Speaker 2>to a restaurant or even just that Suvlaky bar whatever,
<v Speaker 2>fish and chip shop, you look at the back and
<v Speaker 2>Steepe's making and you're like, this is a this is
<v Speaker 2>a real place. When you see big Momay at the
<v Speaker 2>back chopping up potatoes at the fish and chip shop,
<v Speaker 2>you're like, this is a fish and chip shop. Why
<v Speaker 2>I go to my still go to Maneuver Road, As
<v Speaker 2>I said, shout out, I haven't gone there yet. Still
<v Speaker 2>I keep saying, we're going to try the homemade chips
<v Speaker 2>from the fish and chip shop.
<v Speaker 1>Shout out, shout out to Nick and Pete. And like
<v Speaker 1>I said, I went to your pizza place, Romania, and
<v Speaker 1>going in there, it's kind of like, well, this looks
<v Speaker 1>like an Arsil family joint.
<v Speaker 2>At the telly on in the background, it like, hey,
<v Speaker 2>somebody look, order a pizza. Okay, let's make it up. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>it just needs an arcade machine exactly Finer. I may
<v Speaker 2>be projecting him, but it's kind of like, al right, guys,
<v Speaker 2>let's get it together. This guy wants a pizza, yeah,
<v Speaker 2>as opposed to just a you have a cat on
<v Speaker 2>the window. Oh doing a little meals out us.
<v Speaker 1>Hey, okays, it just seemed like a nice little family joint.
<v Speaker 2>Yes, and it did. All right, My next one to
<v Speaker 2>throw out there will be wedding for disaster. Now. I
<v Speaker 2>remember it's not being a very funny episode, but it
<v Speaker 2>was very emotionally driven where it was almost the one
<v Speaker 2>there was one where there's some sore parody where you
<v Speaker 2>feel like the writers went, Okay, people seem to be
<v Speaker 2>sick of jok Art's Homer. This is not going to
<v Speaker 2>fix this, but it's going to try and sway your
<v Speaker 2>opinion more back into Yes, we're going to try and
<v Speaker 2>make him more likable again, because he was just one
<v Speaker 2>hundred percent relatable and likable in this episode. He was
<v Speaker 2>just going out of his way from beginning to woe
<v Speaker 2>to please Marge, get back to his family, and he
<v Speaker 2>was just a lovely husband husband in this.
<v Speaker 1>It was a really vivid reminder that this guy knows
<v Speaker 1>how good he's got it. Yes, yeah, which we're always saying,
<v Speaker 1>I mean because it wasn't for a punchline, because hey,
<v Speaker 1>listeners are full thing a discat. You may not know this,
<v Speaker 1>but both Dan or as simps. So, yeah, we relate
<v Speaker 1>to Homer in that regard is like you won the game, buddy,
<v Speaker 1>So always remember that and always, you know, articulate that,
<v Speaker 1>don't take that for granted, don't take it for granted.
<v Speaker 2>Exactly right, But I think they use Paddy and Salma
<v Speaker 2>here as the sore villain. If you can even win
<v Speaker 2>over Patty and Salomon, then how can you possibly win
<v Speaker 2>over you the viewer? That's right.
<v Speaker 1>Admediately they stacked the deck in some regard by making
<v Speaker 1>Marge a bit of a bridezilla.
<v Speaker 2>I unlike that. It was It's nice seeing her get
<v Speaker 2>her bridezilla moment. It's a it's a nice swerve, absolutely,
<v Speaker 2>but it also I think makes you watsympathetic for Homer.
<v Speaker 1>H Absolutely, yeah, but everyone can not that everyone can
<v Speaker 1>relate to a bridezilla, but just sort of see where
<v Speaker 1>Margins coming from. But they still towards home and just
<v Speaker 1>enough that you go, you're more on the guy's side
<v Speaker 1>because we quite frankly, he needed.
<v Speaker 2>To pull the curtain back of it here planning for
<v Speaker 2>our wedding. Nicola was the opposite of a bride seller,
<v Speaker 2>and she was organizing dresses right and her bride'smaids at
<v Speaker 2>the time, who she'd picked or several of them, were
<v Speaker 2>complaining about this. They wanted this one too much money.
<v Speaker 2>I want to be able to stay in Geelong. That
<v Speaker 2>night's gonna costo much one if we stayed there. We
<v Speaker 2>need to move this. They were basically telling Nichola how
<v Speaker 2>to run her wedding. Oh boy, hey, you know what
<v Speaker 2>I did. I said to Nicola, you know what if
<v Speaker 2>they're trying to tell you how to run your wedding,
<v Speaker 2>should they be bridesmaids? Knew what she did. She nicked them,
<v Speaker 2>three of her bridesmaids, and she replaced them. And she
<v Speaker 2>looks back now and she goes, one of the best
<v Speaker 2>decisions I've ever made was Nixon Nos. Three because she's
<v Speaker 2>never spoken to him since, for real, never spoken to him.
<v Speaker 2>Say's never seen them since. Those people when she's nixed them,
<v Speaker 2>and the three people she replaced them with are still
<v Speaker 2>some of her best friends to this day. And she goes,
<v Speaker 2>I don't know why I chose because they were friends
<v Speaker 2>of Nicholas when she first came to Australia, the ones
<v Speaker 2>that she risually included, and I think she just sort
<v Speaker 2>of included them by well, they were my first friends. Here,
<v Speaker 2>I need to kind of include them. And then turns out, no,
<v Speaker 2>first friends, not always best friends. No, not always best friends,
<v Speaker 2>and she's replaced them, and these are friends, our lifelong
<v Speaker 2>and she looks back now she goes, I would hate
<v Speaker 2>to look back on my wedding photos and have seen
<v Speaker 2>those three in them. I'm so glad that my three
<v Speaker 2>friends who I have still to this day are bridesmaids. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>well done. So Nicola was the opposite of a bride's yell,
<v Speaker 2>and it just took me to go and took everything
<v Speaker 2>in her being to say you're not my bridesmad anymore.
<v Speaker 2>That's a big decision. Oh absolutely, But it was the
<v Speaker 2>right decision, Oh.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, because I mean, that's not just pulling the pin
<v Speaker 1>on ceremony, that's probably pulling the pin on the whole friendship.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, and that was it. She's never seen them or
<v Speaker 2>spoken to him since, and good riddance support. Okay, well
<v Speaker 2>likely I like that, looking Pete beyond the curtain.
<v Speaker 1>My next one, yes, is the good, the sad and
<v Speaker 1>the drugly Yeah okay, yeah, for reasons that we've already
<v Speaker 1>sort of talked about, but in a slightly different way.
<v Speaker 1>It's always good when a character who has been the
<v Speaker 1>butt of the joke or the punching bag not necessarily
<v Speaker 1>gets their time to shine, but you know it gets
<v Speaker 1>a little bit of an updraft and gets a little
<v Speaker 1>bit of a win and you forget that. That's the
<v Speaker 1>feeling for mill House with this episode. I initially tuned
<v Speaker 1>in because it's like, yeah, and Hathaway his guest star.
<v Speaker 1>And when we talked about this episode, I was like,
<v Speaker 1>didn't bring a whole lot of the table.
<v Speaker 2>Annie didn't bring hold to the character. Really, no, that's
<v Speaker 2>that's the character wasn't much. So how many female guest
<v Speaker 2>stars are now bart girlfriends, that's true?
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, and yeah, the character of Jenny and this felt
<v Speaker 1>like kind of a retread or a rehash.
<v Speaker 2>Of every other female girlfriend. This did feel like a
<v Speaker 2>bit of a rerun. Remember he knocked up somebody who
<v Speaker 2>was the voice Forgot and there's a voice of the
<v Speaker 2>bully from Sarah Michelle Gallop when he was in prison.
<v Speaker 2>That's right. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>So yeah, and Hathaway not that great in this. I mean, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>all do you respect around Hathaway who now I'm going
<v Speaker 1>to marry? Yeah, blah blah blah. Oh, for goodness, I've
<v Speaker 1>forgotten the name of the other female character who really
<v Speaker 1>shines in this Shaner.
<v Speaker 2>Shaner really especially debuts. I'm sure. Yeah, yeah, I think
<v Speaker 2>I'm all in on shore. People did not like Sewan
<v Speaker 2>when she debuted, and it's I think it's like twenty
<v Speaker 2>years on, you're just like, you know what, She's actually
<v Speaker 2>a much needed addition to the Bullies group because they
<v Speaker 2>were just lost. Sure, yeah, yeah. I don't think Simpsons
<v Speaker 2>as you knew what to do with the bullies because
<v Speaker 2>they were intimidating anymore. They were just goofballs. Yeah. And
<v Speaker 2>now they've got not even Capital City goopballs, I know,
<v Speaker 2>and now throwing Shorter in it, it's like, oh, at
<v Speaker 2>least we've got something to sort of root for now.
<v Speaker 2>Oh yeah. The fact that I I'm sure that's great.
<v Speaker 2>I love it, And there is that there was a
<v Speaker 2>fun little plot twist to her character in later season,
<v Speaker 2>which I won't if you want to see your reaction thing.
<v Speaker 2>I'm not well versed on sort of Simpsons going forward,
<v Speaker 2>so it's going to be she is somebody an exciting experiment, yes,
<v Speaker 2>But I think mainly I liked it because of the
<v Speaker 2>of the Millhouse, the whole knotty friendship friendship relationship dynamic.
<v Speaker 2>I'm pretty sure that all of us at some stage
<v Speaker 2>in our life. Oh, you've got involved with a romantic partner,
<v Speaker 2>but it's kind of disrupting your friendships, that kind of thing. Thought.
<v Speaker 1>I thought the episode actually handled that pretty well. I
<v Speaker 1>thought it handled it comedically pretty well, but also emotionally
<v Speaker 1>pretty smartly.
<v Speaker 2>So I was I was a fan of that. I'm
<v Speaker 2>not so much a fan of the b plot, where
<v Speaker 2>that was a week at best. Yeah, the whole Lisa
<v Speaker 2>being well, she hates the world the words because she
<v Speaker 2>has the project on Springfield and fifty years well, oh
<v Speaker 2>that's right, it was going to shit. So she gets
<v Speaker 2>put on drugs to be happy, and then Marge's like,
<v Speaker 2>I'm taking off these drugs, and then that was there.
<v Speaker 2>She's just off.
<v Speaker 1>Lisa had the very twenty twenty five sort of state
<v Speaker 1>of mind and popping her pills and seeing everything with

<v Speaker 2>the best moments of all time the Simpsons. If you
<v Speaker 2>want to be sad, be sad. Absolutely absolutely.
<v Speaker 1>But I thought there was a lot to enjoy in
<v Speaker 1>the good the sound, and the drug ly and that
<v Speaker 1>that sort of iffy b plot aside.
<v Speaker 2>I'm going to throw the one out we just did
<v Speaker 2>recently coming to America. I really like this. I think
<v Speaker 2>the way the hand of the subject matter is similar
<v Speaker 2>to Goubacs we just did on going down to South Park. Correct.
<v Speaker 2>I think the Simpsons did a better job of it.
<v Speaker 2>I wouldn't say it was as funny as the South
<v Speaker 2>Park version. South Park, you know they call a crude
<v Speaker 2>or whatever. They do very a lot of things on
<v Speaker 2>the nose, but it was very, very funny, right. I
<v Speaker 2>think the Simpsons handled this really touchy subject in a
<v Speaker 2>way that you can show your kids and say the
<v Speaker 2>kids will be getting learning a lesson without realizing they're
<v Speaker 2>learning a lesson. I think this episode, the way they
<v Speaker 2>showcased the ogdenvillionsvillions, that's who came in yet as opposed
<v Speaker 2>to the Mexicans or whatever, because the other one, the
<v Speaker 2>Mypods and boomsticks, was so obvious. Yeah, with the terrorists
<v Speaker 2>and whatnot, and I would just think they're terrorists and
<v Speaker 2>it's just like, this feels very awkward, and I don't
<v Speaker 2>know what's what's the way to describe that. I just
<v Speaker 2>felt well, blunt, blunt, yeah, watching that where this one here,
<v Speaker 2>Homer gets swept up at it all, but it's not
<v Speaker 2>in a way that's so obvious as my Poston Brute
<v Speaker 2>and absolutely no.
<v Speaker 1>It shows that it's very easy to sort of get
<v Speaker 1>swept up in that, and not because necessarily you're afraid
<v Speaker 1>of or contemptuous of, quote unquote the other.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, someone coming to take you jib or whatever. It's like, oh, look,
<v Speaker 2>we're more.
<v Speaker 1>Than willing to help people out, but the same time,
<v Speaker 1>this is also kind of being a bit of a
<v Speaker 1>drain on our resources thing.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, I mean I think they balance it quite well,
<v Speaker 1>And as you said, I think it's something that you
<v Speaker 1>could show to your kids and they would take away
<v Speaker 1>the lessons like, well, being mean to newcomers or strangers,
<v Speaker 1>or be kind of strangers, offer a helping hand, do
<v Speaker 1>what you can, that kind of thing. But they also
<v Speaker 1>showed it's like you got to realize though, that when
<v Speaker 1>you offering a helping hand or helping out can sometimes.
<v Speaker 2>Require a bit of a sacrifice. Yeah, are you willing
<v Speaker 2>to do that? Yeah? Some people maybe, and some people
<v Speaker 2>may not. So you know, I got to look into
<v Speaker 2>all of that. The previous episode was more focus on
<v Speaker 2>Homer seeing how they looked and going, oh, well, you'd
<v Speaker 2>look like a terrorist, where this one here wasn't based
<v Speaker 2>on appearance. It was and it wasn't really It wasn't
<v Speaker 2>based on the gebs. That wasn't the thing. It was
<v Speaker 2>just having more people in this town is a drain,
<v Speaker 2>as you said, on our resources, but it can't be
<v Speaker 2>seen at the hospital, and that because the emergency rooms
<v Speaker 2>forced things like that. Look, all these kind of stuff's
<v Speaker 2>being just overpopulated. So the issue was more overpopulation as
<v Speaker 2>opposed to they're still in our jobs, they look different
<v Speaker 2>that kind of thing, which I think is a real
<v Speaker 2>clever way of handling the situation. Still getting the same
<v Speaker 2>message across a unity. And then they want to build
<v Speaker 2>the wall, which we've touched on how the Trump tried
<v Speaker 2>to build the walls, that kind of thing, but in
<v Speaker 2>the future. But then as they're building the wall, just
<v Speaker 2>talking to each other and going, we're actually not so different.
<v Speaker 2>You and I look at what're building together.
<v Speaker 1>I mean, and really the building wall to separate themselves,
<v Speaker 1>but they're working on it together. It's an interesting kind
<v Speaker 1>of matter.
<v Speaker 2>Making them build the wall and then get out. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>that's right. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Look, I gave a writer, Brendan Hay, a bit of
<v Speaker 1>stick during that episode. I'm going to take some of
<v Speaker 1>it back.
<v Speaker 2>I think. I think Brenda did all right.
<v Speaker 1>Some of his gags were kind of it's a bit sloppy,
<v Speaker 1>but I think his overall structure was pretty good.
<v Speaker 2>Speaking of sloppy, I liked the opening act, the spewed Army.

<v Speaker 2>has got one of the best inciting incidents for some time.
<v Speaker 2>It has been. Yeah. I really enjoyed the Krusty Burger,
<v Speaker 2>the new healthy Krusty Burger, that's right. Yeah, and again
<v Speaker 2>by the nature Burger. I believe it was called something
<v Speaker 2>along those yeah, yeah, and I was just in a
<v Speaker 2>green wrapper.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, and I was giving Brendan hays Stick the sloppy gags.
<v Speaker 1>He had one really good gag, and that was just like,
<v Speaker 1>what was it? The you know, the Krusty Burger is
<v Speaker 1>the world's unhealthiest or whatever, even more unhealthy than the
<v Speaker 1>than the double Krusty Burger, surprisingly, so yeah, yeah, that's
<v Speaker 1>a that's actually a really good gag.
<v Speaker 2>Okay, so you must have one left. I believe I've
<v Speaker 2>got one left. It's how the test was one. Okay. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>I thought this actually had two good plots working, if
<v Speaker 1>not necessarily in concert with one another, working well together.
<v Speaker 1>They sort of Yeah, they dubbed heiled nicely, but yeah, the.
<v Speaker 2>Whole home has to be plot of trying to avoid
<v Speaker 2>getting hurt. Yeah, his insurance is out, so you know,
<v Speaker 2>he's it's a bit of a final destination kind of
<v Speaker 2>thing where it was, wasn't it. Yeah, And it was
<v Speaker 2>a bit of it. Just that was a fine b
<v Speaker 2>plot just to sort of break up the main story.
<v Speaker 1>It's relatable enough and it's like oh, like yeah, I'm
<v Speaker 1>not sure this has ever happened to anyone in real life,
<v Speaker 1>but it's like, oh, I've got to avoid getting If
<v Speaker 1>I can just make it through the rest of the
<v Speaker 1>day without hitting someone with my car or you know,
<v Speaker 1>a building falling on or whatever, everything will work out.
<v Speaker 1>So I thought that was pretty interestingly done. Yeah, the
<v Speaker 1>whole standardized Practice test thing with the school with Barton Lisa,
<v Speaker 1>I just got a kick out of her.
<v Speaker 2>Thought. This where Skinner takes the kids away. Yeah, it
<v Speaker 2>takes Ralph bart in the bullies way on the school bus.
<v Speaker 2>It's not really they think it's something else, but it's
<v Speaker 2>actually they think they're going on like a helicopter and
<v Speaker 2>it pulls a blanket off the school and more like
<v Speaker 2>a prison bus. That's where Skinner is. It's where he
<v Speaker 2>teaches that he uses the barge for teaching him about physics.
<v Speaker 2>That's right. Yeah, So I don't know, it had good
<v Speaker 2>lessons in there, wrapped in good jokes, I thought. But yeah,
<v Speaker 2>I just like the way the A and B plot
<v Speaker 2>sort of worked together well. And yeah, and you had
<v Speaker 2>a little bit of a A minus plot with Lisa
<v Speaker 2>getting all sort of worked up because you know, I
<v Speaker 2>was smarter, well she thought he was smarter, that's right. Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>I kind of liked how the test was one mainly
<v Speaker 2>for that resolution. Yeah.
<v Speaker 1>Were they capital city that they went to or shelved somewhere? Yeah, yeah,
<v Speaker 1>but they were out of out of spring Fruit for
<v Speaker 1>a while. You had a group of people who a
<v Speaker 1>group of the kids that you hadn't necessarily seen together
<v Speaker 1>for a while.
<v Speaker 2>Ralph barton the bullies, Yeah, rare ralphart and the bullies.
<v Speaker 2>I don't know. I thought it worked, and I like
<v Speaker 2>it when Skinner and bart get along as well. That's true,
<v Speaker 2>and he's able to get through to the kids. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>because this was a moment where the skin I think
<v Speaker 2>we discussed it in the review, a moment that the
<v Speaker 2>Skinner character needed.
<v Speaker 1>This is something that's coming up a bit in this
<v Speaker 1>discussion how the episodes that we've liked, and maybe Season
<v Speaker 1>twenty as a whole has given these traditionally sideline characters.
<v Speaker 1>And I don't just mean sideline dramatically, I mean sidelined
<v Speaker 1>in terms of like, okay, well you're the ones that
<v Speaker 1>we poke fun at, you're the butt of the joke. Yeah,
<v Speaker 1>the butt of the joke. Giving them there again time
<v Speaker 1>to shine or giving them just like you know, these
<v Speaker 1>are people too, and you don't lose all the time.
<v Speaker 1>Sometimes you get a win.
<v Speaker 2>So I must though there's a bit of recess before
<v Speaker 2>this season, and went, what if we're doing wrong, let's
<v Speaker 2>try and fix that a little bit. Don't get me wrong.
<v Speaker 2>Season twenty had its down moments, but there was plenty
<v Speaker 2>of good in there as well.
<v Speaker 1>I think we were pleasantly surprised, yeah, because I think
<v Speaker 1>going in we were going like, Eh, this is going

<v Speaker 2>Yeah, and it wasn't. I mean, it was nowhere near death. No, no.

<v Speaker 1>during the episodes when we reviewed them, like, this is
<v Speaker 1>a gag that would work well in quote unquote classic Simpsons,

<v Speaker 2>More case of just ah, this episode's just there. I'm bored,
<v Speaker 2>as opposed to I'm anger on, I'm just bored with this.
<v Speaker 1>I don't think we had many, if any episodes in
<v Speaker 1>season twenty we were like stricken from the record, this
<v Speaker 1>is garbage.
<v Speaker 2>Yeah, there's a couple of where I sort of went, ah,
<v Speaker 2>and this ending feels very rushed and whatnot, But nothing
<v Speaker 2>that angered me or anything to the level of the

<v Speaker 2>just not anything new here. This was a more of
<v Speaker 2>a following the same sort of plot lines of these
<v Speaker 2>DaVinci Codes and whatnot. But you've really simplified it. That's
<v Speaker 2>the one where Homer leaves Maggie on the doorstep of
<v Speaker 2>the convent. Lisa goes to try and get her back.
<v Speaker 2>She's all secretive she's chosen one. I just thought it
<v Speaker 2>was really fun. I just thought I was beef for beat.
<v Speaker 2>You didn't really know where it was going. And in
<v Speaker 2>the end it turns out Maggie is that the chosen one.
<v Speaker 2>They end up giving Bart as a replacement. He becomes Hell.
<v Speaker 2>I really enjoyed this overall mystery episode and cool. It
<v Speaker 2>kept me intrigued from bit to bit.
<v Speaker 1>I won't say I was mad as mad on that one.
<v Speaker 1>I thought it was fine. It didn't it didn't disrupt
<v Speaker 1>me or anything like that. But I don't know if
<v Speaker 1>I've said, actually said all of mine, all of my

<v Speaker 2>I mean, is the one more for you? I think
<v Speaker 2>there might be what's your loved one? Well, the one

<v Speaker 1>of them could be a bit dubious.
<v Speaker 2>We always say the negative about those ones is they go,
<v Speaker 2>then they go, let's just pick out a few guest stars.
<v Speaker 1>I think we're sort of looking at through the lens
<v Speaker 1>of like when they went to the UK and it's like, hey,
<v Speaker 1>here's jk Rowling, hiss Tony Blair. It's like, okay, we've
<v Speaker 1>got some You've got your check book open and you've
<v Speaker 1>got your clout and you're able to say hey, come
<v Speaker 1>on board, and hey, I would say.
<v Speaker 2>On So they do get that stuff out of the way.
<v Speaker 2>It's not the main substance of the story there, because
<v Speaker 2>you have Bart, Lisa and Marge going on a little that. Yeah,
<v Speaker 2>it's like they go to various locations in Ireland, but
<v Speaker 2>that's not the episode. The episode is Homer and Grandpa
<v Speaker 2>buying this part, buying this pub.
<v Speaker 1>Yeah, but it also felt like it paid a lot
<v Speaker 1>of tribute to Ireland present and past. It was like, Yep,
<v Speaker 1>this is a country full of rich culture and interesting
<v Speaker 1>people and interesting characters and all this kind of stuff,
<v Speaker 1>and through studdled little gags all the way out, even
<v Speaker 1>something like little Easter eggs. I think I've got all
<v Speaker 1>book nerding and was talking about, Hey, there's that picture,
<v Speaker 1>and you know that's James Joyce, and that's Oscar will
<v Speaker 1>and that's Samuel Beckett.
<v Speaker 2>You may not get it, but there it is. I know.
<v Speaker 1>I just thought it was something really not Now I've
<v Speaker 1>got Irish heritage, you Okay, maybe that's part of the
<v Speaker 1>reason why I enjoyed this, But no, I just thought

<v Speaker 2>their pub because round pubs in Ireland, right, that's how
<v Speaker 2>they get their business up. Yeah. And the cops coming over,
<v Speaker 2>they had the vacuum. Yeah, they're putting it and putting
<v Speaker 2>the smoke in evidence bags. It was a pretty good game. Yeah.

<v Speaker 1>little bit of a non event. Island has got great

<v Speaker 2>only maybe one one, I think, yeah, any teeny. Yeah.
<v Speaker 2>Besides that, there was a lot to like in season twenty,
