00:00:19 Speaker 1: I have distressing news. 00:00:24 Speaker 2: Oh no, Well, first of all, you're in your childhood bedroom. 00:00:27 Speaker 3: I'm in my childhood bedroom. I'm in my childhood room. 00:00:29 Speaker 2: That's not the news. 00:00:29 Speaker 3: That's not the nude pink. 00:00:31 Speaker 1: I'm trying to go zen because I lost a bag of dirty clothes and my flying Captain America underwear was in the bag. 00:00:43 Speaker 3: That that's gone, it's gone. 00:00:46 Speaker 2: Hold on, did you want to lose a bag of dirty clothes? 00:00:49 Speaker 1: No, I made the flight here. It's the flight back I'm worried about. And we should all worry because we're all on the same flight. So yeah, because we're all flying back from Minnesota. I'm working on getting magic powers into another one. Don't worry about it. That the the you know, sorcery has started. I've brought the coven together. We're doing the circle of power around the new pair of underwear. 00:01:08 Speaker 2: But did you do you always fly in Captain America. I think this is the first time I've heard that you fly in Captain America. 00:01:13 Speaker 3: Home, Captain America. There, spider Man. 00:01:16 Speaker 2: Back, Spider Man back. Okay, well, so your flight home should be fine. Yeah, So, well, it's just the next flight you go on out somewhere. 00:01:23 Speaker 1: No, I've got a new Captain America. So wait, how did you lose underwear? Okay, so it's legit. Okay, so I'm traveling. 00:01:35 Speaker 3: Who took it? 00:01:36 Speaker 1: I don't think that. I can't believe you'd even say Panos's name. That willy nilly No. So I was packing up and I had just a small stack of dirty clothes and I always bring a small garbage bag with me when I travel, and I put my dirty clothes in a garbage bag. I had to run suit of the airport, and so I was dropping off the car and then I was going to get into a cab. I put it everything in the small garbage bag. I threw everything into the cab afterwards, and I think I left the bag in the cab. So I've called all over the cab stand. 00:02:09 Speaker 3: To try to have a garbage bag underwear exactly. 00:02:12 Speaker 2: Probably just threw it away. 00:02:14 Speaker 4: Yeah, So I just I wanted you to know Ri I p Captain America underwear. And the funny thing is I had just told Sue several days ago that it was time to retire that pair because the elastic was gone and they would just creep all the way down the butt and be wrapped around my thighs as I was walking because I had wattle kind of yeah, the kind of wattle like that. 00:02:37 Speaker 5: Did you say, I'm forty four years old? I'm fortunately the underwear was thirty four years Oh. 00:02:41 Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. 00:02:42 Speaker 1: So yeah, so I was going a new route anyway. But this is a tough loss. This was a tough way to lose them. They're they're with the leather jacket somewhere. 00:02:50 Speaker 2: What did they look like? I'm already shopping for a new one. 00:02:53 Speaker 1: No, I have new ones. I have I have see I have said, I have another pair of Captain America that I was going to sub in, but I didn't get to technically say goodbye to this original pair, which that's gonna that's gonna stick with me. So okay, wherever you are, just know that I loved you and you were a game time player. 00:03:10 Speaker 2: I was just what I wanted to say. Well, I sometimes, as I learned in the Wild Robot movie, which I just saw and I think is maybe the best movie I've ever seen in my entire life. 00:03:21 Speaker 3: Yeah, here, it's incredible. Is it about Captain America underwear? 00:03:24 Speaker 2: No, but there's a line in there that like, sometimes the heart is having a conversation that our mouths are not necessarily having. And I think that's what's happening between the heart of your Captain America underwear and your heart. 00:03:37 Speaker 3: That might be I'm glad you get it. 00:03:38 Speaker 1: Someone else gets it, yeah, which is great because my wife just laughed. So I think it's great that someone gets it. And Ryder has taken the appropriate moment of silence, which I like. He hasn't said anything, He's just reflecting on everything. 00:03:51 Speaker 3: Yeah, I have got nothing that they met. There's only so much underwear talk. 00:03:56 Speaker 5: Will's underwear talk I can handle before I'm out. 00:04:00 Speaker 3: You don't have to worry about it because now they're gone, so gone. 00:04:04 Speaker 2: I did find these. I don't know what you're new. 00:04:06 Speaker 3: Those are nice. No, those don't look like that. Those are nice though. I like those. 00:04:09 Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, Yeah, anyway, you give me it. You give me a chance to shop and I, oh god, I'm on it. 00:04:16 Speaker 3: You can't say anything. 00:04:18 Speaker 2: What you think you'd be a medium alone? 00:04:20 Speaker 1: Do they have a child size husky? 00:04:27 Speaker 5: Is that wrong? 00:04:27 Speaker 3: Am I I think I'm husky? No, I don't. 00:04:30 Speaker 5: I don't know. 00:04:31 Speaker 1: You can't say anything to Danielle because then she goes and buys whatever you say at your house a day later. 00:04:37 Speaker 2: It's so fun. It's just give me a give me a shopping prompt, and I'm off to the races. 00:04:44 Speaker 5: I lost the pen that you got me for Christmas. Yeah, that was a nice pen again. 00:04:50 Speaker 3: Sure is it just in another book? 00:04:52 Speaker 5: That's true. 00:04:53 Speaker 3: It could be in a book somewhere. Are we losing all this stuff? 00:04:59 Speaker 2: I don't know. I've my mind, it's gone, officially gone. I've just lost it, barely barely keeping it together. But that's good to know. Writer. I'll yeah, Christmas, get you every year. 00:05:11 Speaker 3: Just get me one pen. 00:05:12 Speaker 2: Listen, it's okay. I think you almost made it a full year. You said you haven't had it for a while. Was it a six month pen? 00:05:18 Speaker 5: Yeah? Probably a six month pen. 00:05:20 Speaker 2: Okay, all right, we'll just get you two and then you'll have just to lose. 00:05:25 Speaker 3: I like it. 00:05:28 Speaker 2: Welcome to Pod Meets World. I'm Daniel Fishel, I'm right or Strong, and I'm Wilfordell. Welcome to today's episode recap. It is season five, episode twenty one, Honesty Night. It originally aired April twenty fourth, nineteen ninety eight. The synopsis Corey and Topanga have reunited, but Corey realizes a terrible truth he forgot to tell Sean, so the couple pretends to still be broken up to make things right. It was directed by Alan Byerson. It was written by Steve Hibbert. There are technically no guest stars, but there is old footage of Linda Cardellini and Jonathan Jackson. So there Linda Cardellini is listed. 00:06:11 Speaker 1: This is he it's third technically right, then correct and said she did four. 00:06:15 Speaker 3: So they must they must cut back to it again. 00:06:17 Speaker 2: At some point, I would imagine that, yes, I can't believe we are still milking this. Just I really, before we jumpine or yeah, like okay, we all we got back together. We really Honestly, I would have loved for there to have been a longer separation between the two, where it could have felt more earned or exciting that that we got back together. I felt like that was a little anti climactic. 00:06:49 Speaker 6: Uh. 00:06:49 Speaker 2: And then this now with just we're back to this very ten very tenuous. Maybe that's not the right word I mean, but this is very like a week story of Sean isn't the first to know? And we got to give Sean the opportunity, and then the drama of the breakup happening again feels like growing stupid. 00:07:11 Speaker 1: There was a moment in this episode where Ryder absolutely gave up. 00:07:17 Speaker 3: Really, I saw the moment where you. 00:07:21 Speaker 1: Just went done, no, not doing this done. I watched it happen on your face. I was like, this is how well I know my boy because I look at him and right there he just went I'm done. We're in front of the audience and I don't care. I'm done with this. I saw it happen. 00:07:37 Speaker 5: I could feel my celf phoning this in. 00:07:40 Speaker 3: I saw it happen. 00:07:41 Speaker 5: I actually think this episode was an attempt because what I realized, like when like basically when when Seawan is like playing therapist, like in that scene, Oh, this is making this is the way the Boy meets World. Thought it was going to make fun of the soap operatics that had preceded it. Oh you were You and Ben were doing soap opera acting at one point, which was awesome, which is funny, And I realized like, oh, right, this is a way for the show to make fun of. 00:08:09 Speaker 2: Right, Oh, we recognize we've been a soap opera watch. 00:08:13 Speaker 5: Yes, But I don't think it quite. It just wasn't. I just don't know who Sean is in this episode. Like it's like, basically, Sean's there to serve a purpose, but like, why is Sean suddenly the emotionally mature one who can lead a therapy session? That makes no sense, That makes. 00:08:30 Speaker 2: No He was murdering everybody episodes ago over his. 00:08:35 Speaker 5: Why doesn't he talk about anything in his own life, his own relationship or his parents, like anything. Instead, it's just the joke, which is I think, a kind of funny idea, but it just didn't. It's not delivered. It's weird. 00:08:48 Speaker 3: There was a couple things about this episode I liked, with a very small l. 00:08:54 Speaker 5: I liked. 00:08:55 Speaker 1: I did like the idea of the storyline that they haven't told Sean, oh my god, we screwed up. Sean should have been the first to know this is gonna be bad. That's a very funny, sitcom kind of line. It's interesting to me that we are now it is now officially Corey and Tapanga show. They did it in four or five episodes, but it is now this is about Corey and Tapango. 00:09:21 Speaker 3: It feels like it's. 00:09:21 Speaker 1: Always been about Corey and Tapanga, which they've done in an interesting way because we know that it hasn't now that we're watching it one after another. 00:09:29 Speaker 3: So that was interesting. 00:09:30 Speaker 1: But it just wasn't funny, no, And I mean to the point where my mom and dad, who are the easiest laughs in the world and love me forever. 00:09:39 Speaker 3: I'm back here in Connecticut, we watched it together. They didn't laugh, and they laugh at anything I. 00:09:44 Speaker 1: Do, right, So it was one of those things where it was just and you know, Ryder, You and I have talked about this bad kid acting is like the best thing in the world. So when Ben and Danielle are going back and forth with the kind of like his inflections are a little get wrong and I love that stuff. Would love to have leaned into that more. But I officially don't know who Sean is in this Tapanga is now going the sexy. 00:10:09 Speaker 3: Route in this kind of episode, which was strange. 00:10:12 Speaker 1: I know Eric is totally dumb and were we are officially too, and it's in a couple episodes. He's not heartfelt dumb anymore. Now, he's just stupid and it just instantly happened. 00:10:23 Speaker 3: It was Yeah, we use the word stranger bizarre. I do all the time. And this was another just kind of strange episode. I didn't think Betsy and Rusty were good in this episode, which is something I've never seen. 00:10:34 Speaker 5: I'm gonna go even farther Bill's performance for the first time. Yeah, in that Bill was pushing too hard because it was so much funny way Queenie was a little more subdued, like, but we're just pushing every I was like, oh wow, they cranked Bill's performance up, and I was like, he's always so, but he's trying too hard in this episode. It's like we're all just spinning our wheels, like trying to illustrate our characters and get Joe because it just doesn't know. 00:11:01 Speaker 1: Yeah, and Daniel, you're one hundred percent right they and again, hindsight is Monday morning quarterbacking is a very easy. 00:11:08 Speaker 3: Thing to do, and you go back and you watch it. 00:11:10 Speaker 1: But at the same time, they missed so much with the will they won't they? Will they get back together? Won't they get back together? How's it going to affect Sean? Maybe one of them starts dating somebody for a little. I mean, we could have done a season of that. Yes, when they start college together and then all of a sudden, what's going to happen? Then oh my god, the storylines there and the comedy there is just you could have gone forever with that, but no, we needed them back in two episodes, and then in like another two episodes they're engaged. I know, it's just it's so two episodes from Yes, it's crazy, it's crazy. So I feel they missed the mark. But I guess, you know, twenty thirty years later, it's easy to say that when you look back. 00:11:48 Speaker 2: So yeah, Well, jumping into our recap, we get some flashbacks. We get Ben saying previously on Boy Meets World and the vo was. 00:11:56 Speaker 5: So zaby it upbeat. I was like what, and it's like ends up right to draw it was like eleven year old Ben previously. 00:12:10 Speaker 2: By the way, if it is an old v O approve, I don't know. They may have just used an old We have him saying it before, let's use it. And we learn all about the trials and tribulations of Corpanga, the Lauren and Corey ski lodge kiss, Lauren semi stalking Corey at Chubby's, the devastation of the breakup, and the Ricky Fair estate. 00:12:30 Speaker 5: And is doing a lot of work here man. 00:12:33 Speaker 2: To Panga and Ricky kiss, but in the end, Topanga and Corey kiss on the jungle gym, starting their relationship over. You are all caught up, she is, take him. It goes nuts ye, and then we start in John Adams high to Panga and Corey walk past Phoene, giving him a chipper, greeting and holding hands. Phoene pauses, wait a minute, you're sitting together. You're talking in unison to Panga and say everything's better to Panga ads we worked out our differences. Corey reveals we got back together. Phoene is pleased. Oh, well good. I'm sure I'm not half as thrilled as Sean was when you told him the good news. He was even more broken hearted than you two. Corey's eyes widen to Panga is shocked. You did tell Sean, didn't you. Corey stutters, well, we just got back together last night. I've had a lot of stuff on my mind, even this premise alone. It's funny. I agree with you, it is so. It's funny. It's a sitcom. It's a great sitcom idea, the idea that Corey wouldn't have immediately called Sean. It's just I don't buy it. I don't buy it. I don't think Corey Poope's without calling Sean for much less true this big thing that he's been with Sean on this whole time, that like you didn't go home and immediately call your best friend. 00:13:49 Speaker 5: Yeah, it could have been an easy fix, right, Like Sean was busy, Sean had something to do. 00:13:54 Speaker 2: Yeah, he never call it, just Rose, He never called me back. 00:13:57 Speaker 5: Yeah, he had the game last night that he had to go to what just for any same reason that Sean was unavailable, and they. 00:14:04 Speaker 1: Or we kissed till two o'clock in the morning, and then I fell asleep dreaming about kissing you. 00:14:07 Speaker 3: So I totally forgot to call him, like I mean something like. 00:14:10 Speaker 2: That, that that would have helped even just a little bit. To Penga shouts, you should have told Sean before you told me. 00:14:17 Speaker 5: Cory. 00:14:18 Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a funny line. 00:14:20 Speaker 2: Yeah, Cory assures her it's okay. They can just tell him now, it's not like anyone else knows. And then on cue a group of girls passing Unison exclaiming congratulations you guys, and there's exactly the number of them needed to not have to pay them as individuals them. 00:14:36 Speaker 3: I didn't even notice that. 00:14:37 Speaker 2: Oh man, Corey begins to freak, Oh my gosh, Sean is going to kill me. Tapanga is worried. He tried every way he knew how to get us back together. Corey concludes that there is only one thing to do. Fieni interrupts, Ho ho is that the stupid idea train coming round the bend. Corey tells Topanga, we have to pretend to still be a part for his sake. Phoene shouts, all aboard woo. They'll set it up so Sean can reunite them. It's a great plan. To Pega frowns, It's not a great plan. It's an anti great plan. Phoene butts in, if I may five words, Tapanga is correct. Corey points out that that's only three words, and Phoene adds, you moron. Corey begs to Pega. 00:15:17 Speaker 5: Where I was like, I wanted him to just say you moron, like just like downplay, but instead Bill is like you moron. It's like everybody's well. 00:15:25 Speaker 2: You know what this reminded me of, and I don't. I'm gonna go right out and say I do not have a specific memory of it this week like I have in other weeks. But this reminds me of other times in the show where we have may have had like a dramatic episode before, and then in the following week we get this idea that if any exactly any any real moments were wrong, no, you guys, that's this is how it's supposed to be, and this idea that it's everyone was then pushing and speeding and it's it's a romp when it should be played more real. 00:16:00 Speaker 1: Yep. 00:16:00 Speaker 2: So, although I have no distinct memories of it, it feels very reminiscent of those feelings that I get sometimes. 00:16:10 Speaker 1: I totally remembered my beet story. I could do my lines to this peace. 00:16:13 Speaker 3: Well because you had to memorize all those crazy word maybe. 00:16:16 Speaker 1: Yeah. It's also on Michael Gabi a note, and he and I had a joke during during one of the sessions too later that that you'll tell us stuck in my head. 00:16:24 Speaker 3: Yeah that's suck as well. 00:16:25 Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, great, So Corey Begs Topanga helped me convince Sean it's up to him to get us back together. Tapega asks, why can't they just tell him the truth? Phoene shushes them. Sean is approaching. Sean forces a smile and the couple feign sadness. Corey points out he bleeds for us. They could make him the happiest guy in the universe. To Penga size, this can't this can't possibly come out well just then, Sean looks over at the couple and Topanga follows the plan. I can't believe you said that to me, you stunted, little whiny brillowhead. She storms away, and Corey follows, Oh yeah, well you're a short, little nasal voice blimpo lip so and. 00:16:59 Speaker 5: So blimpo lip I was like, what, it's so funny though, But they're kind of funny though, because they're just they're trying to come up with insults on the fly, and it's like dad blimbo lips. 00:17:11 Speaker 2: Sean, now distraught, asks Phoene, when will this madness end? Phoene lightly plays along very soon. I hope, Sean shakes his head. It's all so crazy. I feel like I'm just clinging to the wreckage. Sean walks over to his locker and adds a tally mark to the inside door. Well day fifty three of the wreckage, on the other side of the hall. To Panka tells Corey, you kiss my blimpo lips and tell them you're sorry. Corey responds, I would, but my brillohead might poke your eyes out. To Pega, strokes his face and apologizes for her comment, Corey does not interesting. 00:17:45 Speaker 1: I'm just amazed that you got the apology out through your giant lips rightly. 00:17:51 Speaker 3: I'm just saying I can't believe I can talk. I can talk with your. 00:17:55 Speaker 1: Nasal voice, got it out to your huge lips. I'm amazed. 00:18:00 Speaker 2: Corey reminds her they still need to be mad at each other. She gives him a playful girl before walking into class. Meanwhile, Phoene knows this plan is doomed. He boards the train again. Woo, and now we are in Phoenie's classroom. Topanga and Corey are sitting in their familiar seats when Angela walks in. The plan is working. Sean still believes they're apart. To Penga pouts to Corey, I can't believe we were ever apart, my little love dumpling, Corey gush is with plum sauce. Angela hears this and admits, on the other hand, you both sicken me. Tapega tells Corey, I know this is wrong, but I'm actually starting to enjoy this deceitful little game. I mean, don't you find it sexy? 00:18:37 Speaker 5: Why? 00:18:38 Speaker 2: Why I don't? 00:18:39 Speaker 5: This didn't like, I just I didn't get that. 00:18:43 Speaker 2: I don't get it. 00:18:44 Speaker 5: What is sexy about pretend? 00:18:46 Speaker 1: I mean, because I guess it's because you're you're as a couple, you're sharing a secret. 00:18:50 Speaker 3: It's like nobody knows, so you're the only ones that know. That's something. 00:18:56 Speaker 5: PEG has ever been. Yeah, but this is like the most interested. 00:19:02 Speaker 2: Pretending to not be with him. 00:19:04 Speaker 5: I know. 00:19:05 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:19:05 Speaker 1: I also don't understand how nobody at John Adams is talking about the fact that Angela is thirteen months She's constantly got everything in front of her, She's wearing nine coats inside. 00:19:17 Speaker 2: Wow, Sean and Angela have really taken the relationship. 00:19:21 Speaker 3: Is no one going to mention the fact that she's clearly. 00:19:23 Speaker 2: Mass You know what I just thought of. I wonder if one of the reasons we had that weird episode the Girls Girlfriend's Club, where Sean then is like, I need to take our relationship a step back. I wonder how much of it was a consideration that Michael and the rest of the everyone else had just found out that she was pregnant, and there was a worry if it's if she's obviously pregnant, is it going to is ABC? Is anyone going to have an issue with the idea that it could be seen as Sean and Angela are having a baby. 00:19:56 Speaker 3: Yeah, well you couldn't. 00:19:58 Speaker 5: But already the melrose Place actress had been fired and for being pregnant in suit. Right, so we already had the president you could not fire a woman for being pregnant. 00:20:07 Speaker 3: Right, Remember was that? 00:20:08 Speaker 5: I don't know, I don't it had already happened. I'm pretty sure by the time Trina was on the show, there had already been a lawsuit and it had been settled that you cannot fire an actress for being pregnant. And I think it was a melrose Place actress. Well great, Yeah, so I don't think they could fire her. 00:20:26 Speaker 2: Like I know, I wasn't saying they was about firing her. I'm saying that that saying let's have Sean and angelas separate. We need to take a step back in our relationship. In that episode where you were like, I think we should be friends, so that I can't hurt you thinking, But then they skip over it. Eventually they just go back to now, all of a sudden, you guys are together. But I do wonder how much of Okay, Trina is pregnant. We have to now account for that in the Sean and Angela relationship scenario, because we don't want the audience thinking, is she pregnant? Is Sean or Sean and Angela having a baby, Like I wonder if that was ever a thought process. 00:21:04 Speaker 3: Because she was clearly pregnant. 00:21:05 Speaker 1: And again I know to look for obviously because I knew she was pregnant, but I mean, it's she it's hard to hide when you're she's got to be eight months pregnant. Here. 00:21:13 Speaker 5: Yeah, changing her seat too, I was, yes, I know, she always sitting in the front row and there's like now she's back in the back row. 00:21:21 Speaker 1: In that giant brown coat like an old Russian dictator. 00:21:25 Speaker 2: Well, the good thing that they had going for them with changing her seat is that it's next to Sean's seat, So at the very least they can put they can put her next to Sean. Yeah, so you can you can move that. But anyway, Okay, Topanga tells Corey, I know Corey's eyebrows raise Corey and Sexy in the same sentence, Wow, I do believe your resolve is weakening my little kamquat. To Panga whispers, I want to kiss you so bad. Corey's intrigued the sneaking around stuff seems to be agreeing with you. To Panga clarifies, only if I can be sneaky with you. Their faces good closer, but Femi interrupts the steamy conversation. On the other hand, you sicken me too. Phoene's having serious misgivings about being a part of their little than. Shawn enters. Phoene goes silent and then makes something up Bighorn where General Custer and his wife, Missus Custer had a beach house. 00:22:15 Speaker 3: Funny, good dialogue. 00:22:17 Speaker 2: Phoene sighs and walks back to his desk. Oh, I am way too involved. And then we're in the John Adams High Hallway. Corey and Ta Panga are sitting on the blue senior couch and notice Sean approaching to Pega gears up for another performance. I can't believe how many good years I've wasted on you, Corey, Matthews. Corey begins his own dramatized performance. But to Panga, think of everything we've had, everything we've shared now with Sean fully engaged, Topega responds, sure, we've had some kicks, a few laughs, as. 00:22:58 Speaker 5: Soon as where I was like, oh, if we go back to start, this is the fight in the museum, but played for a joke. It's literally like, you're right, it's so we're trying to make light of it. I guess, but it's pretty funny. I mean, you guys are funny and you're great. 00:23:13 Speaker 7: I look at bad a like kind of purpose is hysterical. I really do like this line too. 00:23:20 Speaker 2: Maybe you should have thought about that before you spent time with that skinny lip to Schemny, I really like the turning around of the blimpo lip into a skinny lip. Thing is being funny. Corey gasps, ah, she has a name, which if this were real life, this is the moment where I would have been like and that I do not call that skinny lip harm by her? By her, that's right, I would have lost it. Sean interrupts, I can't take this anymore. Corey turns to see his best friend acting completely surprised needs to help them, but Sean admits that it's hopeless. Look at how callous and uncaring she is about you. Topanga looks at him a bit surprised at this comment. Corey asks Sean to look at her again. This time, Tapanga tries to look more innocent, but Sean declares, nah, she's like ice. So Tapanga decides to turn on the waterworks. Shawn's demeanor changes as he rushes to Topanga, what are these tears? Are these the tears of hope? 00:24:23 Speaker 6: Okay? 00:24:24 Speaker 1: So this I'm sorry, but this was a moment where I thought you were going to do what's that up in the road ahead? What I thought it was gonna be right, because what are these tears to Panga? 00:24:35 Speaker 2: Are they? 00:24:36 Speaker 3: What are these tears are Topanga? So in my head I kept tearing it wrong. What are these tears to Panga? 00:24:42 Speaker 1: What are these tears to Panga? 00:24:47 Speaker 3: You turned out to be question exactly. 00:24:55 Speaker 2: That's so what I heard to admits maybe a little. Sean mentions, but I just saw him pleading with you to take him back, and you didn't. She dramatically explains that wasn't my heart talking. Corey and I are meant to be together. I just fear that there's too much damage done for us to put us back together ourselves. You're our last hope. Sewn asks, really, I am, But I'm sure all you have to do is say so and he'll come running. Tapega's voice shakes. If only it were that easy. One of the things I love most about Corey is his fierce pride. Corey gives a gallant a gallant pose when he hears this, Sean knows that isn't true. I've known Corey. 00:25:33 Speaker 5: Oh all. 00:25:40 Speaker 2: That really made me laugh. He tells Tapanga to watch this and makes his way over to Corey to tell him to Panga will take him back. Corey responds, she can rotten hell. T Peg is amused by this harsh response. Harsh response. Sean, on the other hand, turns back to Tapanga and surprisingly admits you know him better than I do. To Panka pleads say you'll help us. Sean smile. Perhaps you thought I'd used up all my emotional strength over the last fifty three days, but I have kept just a little. Sean Pats's heart and says, right here in the pumper. 00:26:12 Speaker 5: And this is I mean, like basically from here on out, I don't know who Sean is like this, you know, like that is that that moment of like, I know Corey he has no pride? Is like the last time that it's like a real character based yeah storre, Like Sean is the relationship expert who can not only help them in the therapy sense, but then also actually help them at the end by inviting Corey's parents to come to Like that doesn't make any sense Shawn is now if anything, he's so uncomfortable around Corey's parents because he doesn't understand happy couples. So he had to him having this like more knowledge about relationships than Corey into. 00:26:47 Speaker 2: Pangua or the even like the even less forgiving complaint than that one is the idea that Sean has seen his parents have horrible fights that may have even involved abuse, and he's like, but it doesn't change the fact that they love each other and all you need, no matter what your circumstances, is love. Like the idea that then he's like Amy, Helen, can you come and get really angry at each other and say horrible things to each other and then turn around and make out and talk about how it's all fine. In the end, it's just kind of an. 00:27:26 Speaker 5: Idea more than it's an idea before it's a story, you know, and it's just it's an idea driven story writing, and it's just not I love. 00:27:34 Speaker 2: It's like it's like they're all the different ways to play it out. I love the sentiment that a fight doesn't ever mean doesn't have to mean the end when when you're married and you're in a relationship, Listen, we owe it to each other to be honest all the time and to get to resolve conflict. But conflict does not equal abuse to name a book, and conflict doesn't have to mean we have to end our relationship. We are in conflict, but we will resolve it. There is a resolution. We don't know when we'll get there. It may take some time, it may not be this minute, but we will get to it. And and fighting doesn't have to be a bad sign for our relationship. Love that that's. 00:28:16 Speaker 5: A long time to learn, I would say, until my thirties was I able to say like, oh right, it's okay to have arguments and actual conflict and to like get through it in fact, yeah, it's healthy. Oh my god. 00:28:29 Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, you know what show did that really well? Was Friends Again? When when Monica and Chandler get into a fight and he goes well and looks like, yes, this is over. 00:28:37 Speaker 3: She's like why exactly, and he goes, well, we had to fight. 00:28:40 Speaker 1: She's like, Chandler, if you break up with everybody, anybody every time you have a fight, you'd never beat it with anyone longer than oh. Like she got that he didn't understand it, which is a great way to do it. At the same time, they're also missing so much comedy with Sean and Sean going wait, you want me. 00:28:57 Speaker 3: To fix your relationship. I'm terrible at this. 00:29:00 Speaker 2: Don't I'm just held captive by three. 00:29:04 Speaker 5: For being horrible at relationship exactly. 00:29:07 Speaker 1: And this is so much comedy there where you're dulous things. 00:29:11 Speaker 3: Where it's like I got you a chimpanzee. 00:29:14 Speaker 5: Right because it's going to bring you together. It blows up balloons and Sean to recreate the first night they met, just a disaster. 00:29:23 Speaker 3: What Sean thinks is a good relationship is so much funnier. 00:29:28 Speaker 1: That's the comedy, is the cartoony way Sean would go because. 00:29:33 Speaker 3: He doesn't know, and he finally looks at the end and He goes, why would you come to me? I don't know anything about this. 00:29:38 Speaker 5: You know, a great A great night is at the trailer park and dad drinks too much? 00:29:43 Speaker 3: What is it? 00:29:44 Speaker 5: What is it like? 00:29:45 Speaker 3: Crappy champagne and all night till sunrise? My god, it's so much you could have done there and romance they didn't. Yeah. 00:29:57 Speaker 2: Well, Sean is prepared for his beloved friends to squeak. He's out the last drop of his emotional tooth baste. I got a perfect visual of that. I did love it. Good luck to Panga, whispers to Corey, I'm telling him. Corey insists he's making a speech. Let him talk. Sean pledges that he will save them. He dramatically looks into the distance and declares, Oh, yes, I will, and walks away proudly. Feene has been watching Sean from his classroom doorway. What a jerk? Who is he talking about? 00:30:28 Speaker 5: Is Sean the jerk? 00:30:29 Speaker 3: I didn't, And it was just kind of mean. 00:30:35 Speaker 2: I was like, Sean was just doing a really super nice thing for his friends, and yet I wonder if it was because he was being so yes mean. I have it in me my emotional drop here in the pumper or was he like what a maroon? But like that would have been better than what a jerk? 00:30:55 Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know, it's supposed to be like what a loser? Or like what a but but they went with jerk, which you know. Yeah, and maybe the definition of jerk has gotten more about now like back in the day, think about the movie The Jerk right, like he was just kind of an idiot. But I think jerk nowadays means more like you're mean, like you're mean spirited. I don't know if it necessarily did back then, like maybe er. 00:31:22 Speaker 1: The nineties, like it don't be a jerk, you're such a jerk. I mean, it wasn't like, oh, you're a buffoon. It was like you're an ass, Like why er? 00:31:29 Speaker 3: Yeah, I think so. 00:31:29 Speaker 5: I think it might have been more like Dweeby than I think. I don't know. 00:31:33 Speaker 2: I think it may have been on that side versus now now it's very much like you're rude jerk. Back then was a little more like yeah, yeah, I don't know it just but yeah, it felt very much like wait, what. 00:31:50 Speaker 5: What a character the end of the scene, right button. 00:31:55 Speaker 2: No, it's not the button. We get a great button. Guys. Wait till you hear it to Penga smirks and questions Corey she can rotten hell. Corey asks if it was too much, and Topanga flirtatiously admits, you're actually pretty good at this. Corey thinks her and agrees you're actually pretty good at But before he can finish his sentence to Panga throws him down on the couch and begins to kiss him. He tells her in between kisses, I was just going to say that you're good at field hockey, but you're good at this too. 00:32:25 Speaker 1: And then they cut to FENI just goes what a whore and walks into his room. 00:32:30 Speaker 3: Just and see but. 00:32:40 Speaker 2: A great word. 00:32:40 Speaker 3: Just all. 00:32:41 Speaker 2: I love dollup too. Then we're in the guy's apartment. Se good time, you us talk about some of our favorite workouts. We head into the guy's apartments. Sean and Jack are sitting on the couch and Jack is wearing a Fu Boo shirt. 00:32:56 Speaker 3: Is that not good? 00:32:57 Speaker 2: I know, listen, I I know that neither of you were going to pick up on this, but so Foo Boo was very big in the nineties. It still exists today. Uh, it stands on service. The service there actually is is there. 00:33:17 Speaker 5: I thought it's nonsense words like this is where we're at corporations up stuff. 00:33:25 Speaker 3: You guys watching. 00:33:28 Speaker 2: The clothing brand is f U b U and it's actually it's a black owned brand and it stands for for us by us. 00:33:39 Speaker 5: Got it. 00:33:40 Speaker 3: Matt Lawrence Laws. 00:33:45 Speaker 6: Julie Yang put Maut Lawrence in a Fu Boo shirt and I was watching the scene and jen Z goes, is I wearing a Foo Boo shirt? And I'm like, no, I redound it, and yes, indeed, I. 00:34:01 Speaker 5: Actually felt something was off about all the wardrobe, like real shirt was popping way too much in this scene, and like, my I'm in the first scene I'm wearing like this weird. I don't know. I noticed our wardrobe for the first time and I never a seasonally. 00:34:16 Speaker 3: Silver jumpsuits in every episode. I wouldn't even notice. 00:34:18 Speaker 5: It, and I had to figure out. 00:34:23 Speaker 2: I was like, I swear something, Okay. Anyway, Sean inquires, let me ask you something about Corey and Tapanga Eric, who's revealed to be sitting in the kitchen jumps in are they still estranged? Will is wearing his Coke spoon necklace, which we saw on Love for the Scream episode Sean and Jack are confused. Eric explains, it was my word a day calendar. He's glad they asked today because if they asked tomorrow he would have And then he rips a page from the calendar. Are they estranged? Hey? Can someone explain this joke to me? 00:34:56 Speaker 3: Why? 00:34:57 Speaker 2: Why is it estranged for a few days? 00:34:59 Speaker 1: That's just because it's because, he then says, which is a very long joke at the end, which makes no sense, the www dot heyuidiot or whatever dot com. So he bought a calendar where for several days they just put the same name, the same word as a word to day. So for the next six days, it's just a strange that's the joke. Yeah, it's a bad calendar. 00:35:20 Speaker 5: I just but like, if the joke the storyline is that Eric is using the word of the day like crazily every day, right, Like that's good enough storyline. You don't have to add the extra joke that the calendar is bad and the calendar for being an idiot, Like. 00:35:35 Speaker 3: I just don't. 00:35:36 Speaker 5: It's it's a weird yeah, like a yeah, it's a hat. 00:35:39 Speaker 2: On a hat, but like even better, why wasn't the next word another word that means something similar to a strange, so that it's still a different word you you would have had separated or distant or something where it just hey, hey, they're working every single time versus I didn't. I couldn't under I was like, but then later the words change. I did think maybe, Like to Will's point, he bought a word a day calendar, and it's all the whole year is estrange. It's just every day the word is a strange to no matter how far he goes, it's the. 00:36:09 Speaker 3: Word of the day. That's what it is. They didn't say they're going to change the word of the day's. 00:36:14 Speaker 2: This year. Yeah, I don't know, so I didn't. Okay, I thought it was going to be me. I thought it was going to be one of those moments. I definitely have them sometimes on the show where I'm like, oh, that was an easy to understand joke. I don't know how I missed it. I thought it was going to be one of those. But I'm glad none of us really seem to get it. 00:36:28 Speaker 1: Yeah, No, it's just they're trying to say he was for it was a crappy calendar. 00:36:32 Speaker 2: Okay, got it. 00:36:33 Speaker 5: Because he bought it online. Remember online shopping was crazy, Yeah. 00:36:37 Speaker 2: Crazy guys. Sean admits to Jack. I think they both want to get back together. They just need me to give them a push in the right. Eric offers estranged. Jack pacifies him, Yeah, it's strange. 00:36:49 Speaker 5: Sean doesn't know the word direction. They need a push in the right. 00:36:53 Speaker 2: But I think it's that you didn't know. It's more like, you know when you have a brain laps and you're like, what's the word I'm thinking of? Direction? 00:37:00 Speaker 5: Like I totally would get it, like, let's find a better way to like, they just need a push in the right. H But you start a sentence like that because you know the word direction, you know, right exactly? It made no sense. I was like, they could have done better. 00:37:13 Speaker 7: Into the right ocean, into the right like a strange as it is strange. 00:37:20 Speaker 2: He then turns back to Sean and whispers he's getting worse. Sean explains that he's been trying to help them all along, but nothing he does is working. Their relationship is just more complicated than most. If he can figure out why they're different, maybe he could help. Jack suggests they're different because they love each other. What okay? Sean doesn't understand why they'd break up them regardless, he has to help them. Eric argues, no, you can't help them today. Today is a strange day, and so is tomorrow. You can't get them back together on a strange day. He should help the day after tomorrow. And Jack asks, why what day is that? Eric checks his word a day calendar again, estrange, this is the last time I buy something from H T T P colon slash slash w w W dot howdisucker dot com? 00:38:11 Speaker 1: As a long joke. That's a long joke for very little payoff. 00:38:16 Speaker 5: But if you had just said howdisucker dot com dot com, the whole donald one thing was just a new idea. So like we all still had to type out h T H T T that's the whole idea of using the internet was still so weird, Like oh yeah, it's crazy to think about. 00:38:31 Speaker 1: Well, it should have also just been H T T colon slash slash www dot estranged calendar dot com, right exactly, you know that's it's like, then it's just. 00:38:42 Speaker 2: Then great, it makes sense. 00:38:43 Speaker 5: It's howdisucker dot com? 00:38:45 Speaker 2: How do you howdysoccer dot com? 00:38:47 Speaker 1: H O W d y M it's dot c O m that's dot com strip chat. What what re directed me to something called strip shure? Sure? 00:38:59 Speaker 2: Writer, Yeah, put it on the podcast so that later when Alex checks your search history and ali'suer. 00:39:13 Speaker 3: And it sent me right to this porn site. 00:39:17 Speaker 5: Sure. 00:39:18 Speaker 2: Sure, put it out there into the world. So smart, so smart, you could use it now for anything. You see where this is going. Jack tells Eric to get in the shed. Eric pouts and says, I hate this what shed? Huh what I think? 00:39:36 Speaker 1: I was also just talking about the episode at this point. 00:39:40 Speaker 3: Character. 00:39:40 Speaker 2: I hate. Then we're in the Matthew's kitchen where Corey Tepenga and Sean have met up to work on their relationship. 00:39:59 Speaker 5: So it happens in that scene Sean makes a decision to what like he was already, I'm. 00:40:07 Speaker 2: Gonna squeeze this last drop. 00:40:11 Speaker 5: Yeah, And we don't talk about relationships. I just realization that they love each other and they know the realization is that if you can find out what makes them different, then you'll figure out what's wrong with their relationship. 00:40:26 Speaker 2: Yeah. If he can figure out why they're different, maybe he could help. 00:40:31 Speaker 3: And apparently Jack thinks they're different because they love. 00:40:34 Speaker 2: Each other, right, right, But then in this this scene in the Matthew's kitchen, how are we trying to get to how they're different? 00:40:44 Speaker 3: You just get into a fight. It doesn't make any. 00:40:47 Speaker 2: But even like so taking what Sean just let's say he learned in that last scene, oh, they're different, and that the difference is the key to getting them back together. Then he starts off this scene. 00:41:00 Speaker 5: I just it makes like it would have been so much Okay, It's like it's all it's all just on this level of ideas and concepts, like if if Instead Sean's like, I don't know how to get them back together? And Jack was like you got to be their therapist? And Seaw's like what does that mean? And Jack's like, let's watch like episodes of television where therapy And then Sean goes into the scene with as a bad therapist because he watched bad movies or read books, you know, like that would make the story because then Shawn's acting out of character, like he's trying to do something like oh, in order to get that, but instead it's all like Sean conceptually understands difference, and it's. 00:41:34 Speaker 2: Like what or what if the way Corey tried to help Sean's parents when when Vernon came back. If if Jack is aware of that, remember how Corey talked to you know, Corey did whatever, or or even if Jack said before before I left, before mom left, I used to play therapist between them. And here's what worked for me. 00:41:58 Speaker 5: Anything, just any something to give that this scene motivation, because when walking into this scene, I was like, what is Sean doing? Why is Sean the expert? And it just doesn't you know? 00:42:07 Speaker 1: And there's comedy there if it's if it's played for comedy of getting the worst person in the world. There's a guy who does not know how to build a house, and now you're in charge of building a house. 00:42:16 Speaker 3: There's a ton of comedy. 00:42:18 Speaker 5: Sean shows up with glasses and he's like, I'm the relationship expert. That's funny reasons we're watching him be out of character because he's trying to be something that he can't do and accidentally actually breaks them up. 00:42:34 Speaker 3: That's great, that's great. 00:42:36 Speaker 1: It's also when you think about it, though, the entire underlying message of this episode. 00:42:42 Speaker 3: Is actually pretty dangerous. 00:42:45 Speaker 1: The idea that it doesn't matter what's going on in your relationship if you're in love and love conquers all, and it's like, that's not a healthy thing to be throwing out there. There's plenty of people that were madly in love that are now in prison. 00:42:59 Speaker 3: It's like, you don't it's it's it's not about love. 00:43:03 Speaker 5: You know. 00:43:03 Speaker 3: So yeah, I don't know. 00:43:04 Speaker 1: I was as I was, you know, Jack just going but they're in love. It's like they're fighting all the time. They're not supposed to be together, but they're in love. 00:43:10 Speaker 3: Okay, Yeah, that's doesn't it solve, doesn't trump everything. 00:43:13 Speaker 5: I don't get work, make it work. 00:43:15 Speaker 3: Yeah, it's there. 00:43:16 Speaker 5: It's a weird I don't know. 00:43:18 Speaker 2: Topanga clarifies it's not doomed, just hopeless. Sean says that's good. Admitting there's a problem is always the first step in recovery. Sean reminds him that this is going to take time. Corey not, it's time time is it to Panga agrees it might not even happen soon, but Corey and Topanga point out, but we could wake up tomorrow and be back together. Corey thinks Sean and Topanga says they'll just see what happens tomorrow, and she stands to leave. Sean pushes them back down. So we all know that this is going to take an enormous amount of time, because well, he kissed another girl and then went on a date with her. Corey sarcastically thanks him for bringing that up, and Topanga isn't happy to be reliving this. Sean continues, and she was catting around with that good looking art guy. Tapanga cuts him off. Yeah, yeah, okay, Sean explains. When I was thinking about this on the way over, I realized, yeah, it's possible that they may not belong together. I mean, the heartless cruelty you inflicted on each other. Who does that? There may just be too much damage done. Fortunately, I know you better than you know yourselves, and I know that, deep down in your souls you love each other. Corey skeptical. You sure. Tapega's had enough. That's good, so we're done, He tells them, they're just getting started. He asks, if there's one thing you could change about to Panga, what would that be? Corey stutters, H, I wouldn't change thing. Sean rolls his eyes. Work with me here, be brutally honest. Don't think feel Tapega whispers to him, humor him. We've been broken up for fifty three days. I'm sure you can find a teensy bit of anger and resentment somewhere in you if you dig real deep. Sean likes this, is there some anger that the two of you still need to work out? Corey admits, I never knew you could be so cold and unforgiving. Tapenga is gratefully flabbergasted that he would say such a thing. Sean asks how she feels about that, and Topanga shouts terrible. Corey whisperst but Topanga, I was only sewn, shouts no more secrets. Corey explains, but I was only sewn. Screams no more hostility. Sean asks Tapanga the same question, and she answers, I can't believe what an insensitive jerk you are. Corey can't believe this. Sean asks how that made Corey feel and he shouts not good. Topanga asks why would you say I was cold and unforgiving, and Corey quickly responds it seemed like the right thing for an insensitive jerk to say. Shawn is loving this good. We've got a dialogue going now, and now we're on the road to reconciliation. Right, guys, Corey and Tapanga don't answer. Sean asks maybe an access road. He's grabbing its straws. Here are we even in the car? Tapega slams or slams her hand on the table. You're right, I'm cold and unforgiving. So I have no idea how I thought we could have gotten back together. She angrily walks out. Corey's wide eyed. She really left. Sean nods with empathy. I told you this is going to be tough. Corey's face is filled with terror. It's just it's not really funny. 00:46:15 Speaker 5: It's an idea first, yeah, yeah, m hmm, okay. 00:46:24 Speaker 1: Watching ideas idea, But that's what I mean, the idea. The good idea is seann is Trump. And now the only thing going in through my head is you what you said a while back. And this is absolutely the pitch I would use. And again, we can't rewrite anything, but I will, uh is. Sean spends his entire like two days watching daytime TV, Daytime TV. Hemory and Corey and Tapanga walk into the living room and he's got all of their friends there like an audience, and he's literally holding like a microphone, and he said, and he essentially does a daytime talk show, which. 00:46:59 Speaker 3: Ends up breaking when he's doing and it's him going like who are you talking? And everyone who are you talking to? 00:47:04 Speaker 1: Yah? 00:47:04 Speaker 3: We'll be right back, be right back. Where are you got so funny? 00:47:07 Speaker 2: I will find out are you? 00:47:10 Speaker 6: Are you what? 00:47:13 Speaker 3: And then it's just Feoene going like I think he's lost the thread. 00:47:16 Speaker 1: Like I mean, there's so many different random ways to do this as opposed to just a couple's therapy by someone who doesn't know what he's doing in a kitchen. 00:47:24 Speaker 5: So yeah, it seems like the joke is a couple's therapy could actually break you up, you know, like it's like a comment on how couples therapy works. But it's like, but I'm not actually a therapist, so that joke is like this weird. 00:47:39 Speaker 2: It's just it is funny the idea that, first of all, all the stuff he's putting them through is technically what they already did. They already did this stuff. Let let's talk honestly about it. I did enjoy my date with Lauren. It didn't change the way I feel about you. And for Tapanga to say I did let him kiss me, and I I what it made me realize like they've actually already done the couples Therapy staff. The idea that Sean doesn't know they're back together and so he rebrings all of it up and it makes them angry again. Is a funny? Is a funny concept? Like that's that that would I could see how you could be like, Okay, we have talked it all out. We're going to leave this difficult period of our relationship in the past and we are going to move forward. And then somebody goes, so, how did you do it? Even after he kissed that girl and went on a day with her and really liked her, and even after you went on a day and you're like, like, I can see that that that's funny. So I'm not sure why it doesn't feel funny here. 00:48:40 Speaker 5: It's just it's not based in our characters. 00:48:41 Speaker 3: It's just it's just random. 00:48:44 Speaker 5: It's like it's like watching a debate what somebody have with themselves like that, it's just endlessly talking about the ideas like Alan and Amy don't feel like Alan and Amy in the final seat. It's just like everybody's a stand in for a set of concepts. It's like nobody's actually riven by you know, real character in this episode. 00:49:02 Speaker 2: I still also stand by the idea that for me, part of it is that the stakes we set up at the beginning that Sean didn't know when it happened the night before isn't enough to make me go I see why everyone's jumping through all these hoops. I just am like, what are we doing this for? 00:49:20 Speaker 5: Again? 00:49:21 Speaker 2: And I know I have to I have to let that go because this is supposed to be you know, we're supposed to also really believe that Sean wanted this more than anything. But also Sean was the one eventually who was like, listen, Corey, it's over. Yeah, we've already seen Sean be comfortable saying like listen, it's yeah. 00:49:39 Speaker 3: My friend. I don't want this from my friend. 00:49:40 Speaker 1: I don't want the yeah it's yeah, yeah, I don't know's. 00:49:44 Speaker 3: It's an odd arc from Lauren on. It's an odd arc. 00:49:47 Speaker 1: And it's such a shame because the Lauren episode, especially the the snow Bunny episode Yeah for lack of a better work, was great. Yeah, it was so good and it could have set up something amazing, and then it just I kind of fizzled. 00:50:00 Speaker 2: I don't know, well, Corey frantically runs out of the kitchen after Tapanga and says, maybe we're just gonna have to accept the fact that you and Tapanga aren't going to get back together. 00:50:20 Speaker 7: Corey loses it, You big stupid idiot. Sean loves it. 00:50:23 Speaker 2: That's great, let it out. Corey clarifies, you don't understand we were back together. We just wanted to make you feel like you had something to do with it. And again, now in this scene, I'm thinking, why is Corey so mad at Sean like Sean had Sean, what are you so this was you? This was you? Don't I don't understand this. Seawn doesn't get it. 00:50:45 Speaker 5: And if Sean had acted like he had come in with a bad plan, being a therapy, but Sean actually comes in with a great plan, like let's talk about it, let's get you out. 00:50:54 Speaker 2: It was exactly how we got back together. We had to talk it all out and be honest and let let's talk about our unresolved feeling. And so he does come in actually doing the right thing. That's very Yeah, Sean doesn't get it. You mean you didn't need my help? Really, Corey has no empathy. You'll forgive me if I don't feel bad for you right now. Sean wonders what kind of stupid thing was it for you to care whether I put you back together or not? 00:51:18 Speaker 3: What are you? 00:51:19 Speaker 2: Humpty dumpty. Corey emphasizes that they even told Feoene first. Sean stops him. You told Feoene before you told me. Corey nods yes. Sean screams in his face. Who cares? The main thing is you're back together. Corey corrects him, But we're not now. You just broke us up again. Sean's on to him. You're just telling me that so I can put you back together again, kind of like your sick games. Corey the mind bender. He takes a seat on the couch, exposing his humongous jean legs. Cory sits down next to him. You know, we really should have taken more classes during our senior year. We've entirely weigh too much time on. 00:51:57 Speaker 3: Our hands. 00:52:00 Speaker 5: Per dialogue like Rayman, Yeah. 00:52:03 Speaker 2: Love it, absolutely love it. Then we're back at the Guy's apartment. Sean is lecturing Eric, Corey to Panga and Jack. I've gathered you all to ask one question, by a show of hands, how many of us are sick? Of the Corey to Panga issue. Everyone raises their hand except for Eric. Eric explains, I am the extension, Jack wins, Is you mean exception? Was today's word exception? Eric responds No, today's word was pertinent, but I didn't think that was having anything to do with the situation. 00:52:34 Speaker 3: Now, this is where my note came. So we do that. 00:52:37 Speaker 1: We do the first run through, and Michael's like, fordll, he missed a joke. 00:52:42 Speaker 3: I go, I beg your pardon. I will never forget that. Yeah, And he's like, you didn't bracket partinent? I go, what do you mean? 00:52:48 Speaker 1: Because he was right during the run through, I was going, uh no, today's word is pertinent, but that's not having anything to do with the current situation. 00:52:54 Speaker 3: He's like, bracket it, stop and go. 00:52:56 Speaker 1: And I remember going, oh, yeah, hundred percent right, I ran through a joke, And so that was the for some reason, this entire episode stuck in my head because of that one note, because I remember sitting there going like, damn, right, why do I do that? 00:53:09 Speaker 3: Blew through a joke which is a great joke, And it actually was a good joke, so yeah, it worked. Well. 00:53:14 Speaker 2: It's so funny. It is funny. How many times someone saying, you know what would make this a little funnier is if you do this and this, and it can be the most minor of a thing. 00:53:24 Speaker 3: Yep, and it's and it works. 00:53:26 Speaker 2: Yeah, and a lot of times it's right. 00:53:28 Speaker 1: One hundred percent right. I was plowing through the joke and I was like, oh man, he's right. I missed the big one. 00:53:33 Speaker 3: Yeah. 00:53:34 Speaker 2: Jack asks his own question by a show of hands, how many people are tired of Eric? Everyone including Eric, raises their hand. Eric stands up. Then it's ubiquitous to Panga turns to Sean. It was really nice of you to stage this little intervention for us, But I really think Corey and I can handle our relationship or non relationship or whatever it was or is or might be. Sean disagrees, you've had your chance. I'm taking your relationship out of your hands. Don't think you even understand your relationship. Jack chimes in, they love each other. Sean asks, then why did they break up? Corey admits I don't even know what she's upset about. To Pega clues him in, you called me cold and unforgiving. You used to think I was pretty perfect, which again is not the reason to be bothered by it. You called me cold and unforgiving, and yet I fully had forgiven you. You kissed another girl, you lied to me, and I've forgiven you. 00:54:27 Speaker 5: I don't understand how this scene follows the previous scene. I tell them understand. 00:54:30 Speaker 2: They're calling everyone together. 00:54:32 Speaker 5: We just were together, like you stormed away right and Corey and I had our little moment, and everyone and everybody to come to Miss. 00:54:41 Speaker 2: Say, are we sick of the Corey into Panga relationship? Everyone says yes, it's just then you tell us we don't understand our own relationship. 00:54:51 Speaker 5: There's no plot, like, there's no reason that this scene follows the previous scene. It's just an extension. It's just more talking. It's so weird. 00:54:58 Speaker 2: Corey shouts back. You called me an insensitive jerk. You used to think I was the most considerate guy in the world. She suggests. Maybe we've just known each other for too long, maybe we don't really belong together anymore. Sean pipe's in, or maybe there's just some residual anger keeping you apart. Eric is back residual to leave over, like if your mom makes a pot roast and you don't finish it. What you have left over is the residual pot roast residual. Jack shakes his head. You don't know what it's like to live here, man, You don't. 00:55:27 Speaker 3: He's got great the Matt Lawrence again. You know it's like you don't, you know, you know, you don't. 00:55:33 Speaker 2: Corey asks why he stays Jack's eyes because he's my friend, because I like him, and no matter what crazy thing he says or does, I still like him. He stares at Eric with confusion. God help me, I still like him. Eric takes a giant bite from a sandwich and responds with a mouthful of food. Come here, man, and hugs his friend. So I guess the B storyline is tied into this, a storyline where you accept your friends and everything. 00:56:01 Speaker 1: And again, a friendship with somebody is a lot different than being in a romantic relationship with him. 00:56:08 Speaker 3: Yeah, anyway, And. 00:56:09 Speaker 2: Then we're in Chubbies. Corey and Tapega are both studying, but at separate tables. Nearby, Sean and Angela are observing the couple. Also, in that last scene, I did think maybe they wanted all of us together because we just came off of the amazing uh Scream episode where everyone was together. Why is Angela not included in this? 00:56:24 Speaker 5: I don't understand. 00:56:26 Speaker 2: I know, Like, why is she not in that. 00:56:27 Speaker 3: Scene she went into labor. 00:56:30 Speaker 2: No, because she's still pregnant. Chubby's here we are. 00:56:32 Speaker 5: Oh that's right, Angela said, Chubby's. But it seems like Angela and Sean should be the driving force of most of the conversation, because it's like Sean has this mission to get them back together, Like when you go to his girlfriend, correct he has a relationship with and be like, well would Corey, Like it could have been a whole thing. 00:56:49 Speaker 1: Yeah, And it would have been great for then Angela to go him. You went to him. You know how hard our relationship is. I gotta pull a lot of this stuff out of him. He doesn't know what he's doing, Like that kind of stuff would Yeah. 00:57:02 Speaker 2: So Angela says that the two of them are like a million miles apart. Sean admits I don't think so. I don't think we ever understood how close they actually are. Then Amy and Allen arrive. Amy tells Corey, we need you home. When Morgan gets back from her art lesson and lovingly says hi to Topanga. Corey wonders why he needs to be home for that. Alan explains, your mother needs me to go shopping with her for bath towels. Suddenly she can't buy them without me. Amy snaps snaps back, I just want to make sure I don't pick out something too pink or too fluffy this time. 00:57:33 Speaker 5: Sorry to Panga. Are seated together at Chubby right, No. 00:57:36 Speaker 2: We're sitting upon I'm sitting at the top round table and he's sitting at a table down below. 00:57:40 Speaker 5: So so we just happened to be in Chubbies at the same time. 00:57:43 Speaker 2: Yes, and now we study in Chubbies at separate tables. That's the thing we do. 00:57:51 Speaker 5: Why is the scene happening? Why is the scene following? 00:57:53 Speaker 7: P says, who says this towel is too fluffy? Who's ever complained about it too fluff? 00:58:00 Speaker 2: Could say, but that's that's a different thing, non absorbent, who too complaints too fluffy? Last night, in the middle of the night, Adler told me I want to change my pajamas. I said, why, Why do you want to change your pajamas? He said, these are too soft and too comfortable? What? Yes, I said, what the hell are you talking about? Kid? Sleepwalking get back in bed. 00:58:21 Speaker 3: He's going to walk around wearing a slice. Give this guy a chance, Yeah exactly. 00:58:28 Speaker 2: Alan tells her to buy whatever she wants. He just doesn't want to be punished over towels. Amy says it's punishment for forgetting her mother's birthday, but he says he didn't forget, he made a choice. Amy scoffs, that is the most insensitive thing I have ever heard. To pang of chimes in Runs in the Family, Corey blows her or raspberry and frustration. So let's just talk about what we learned about Alan and Amy that I could have gone my life without ever knowing Alan, when confronted with the idea that he forgot his mother in law's birthday, is is either truthfully saying I made a choice to not acknowledge it, which doesn't make me love him, or he's so he can't admit that he made a mistake and just say I'm really sorry I did that. He has to say he's making a choice, we have to lie about it. And Amy, we just learned is punished, is actually punishing him by saying I know what I'll do. Oh, Megan, go shopping with me for bath towels because he forgot my mom's birthday. I don't like this for their relationship, No, I don't. 00:59:28 Speaker 3: My question is is any of this real? 00:59:31 Speaker 6: No? 00:59:31 Speaker 1: Or they they're doing Corey and Topanga from the hallway scene. 00:59:35 Speaker 3: They're faking a fight. 00:59:37 Speaker 2: But they're faking a fight that supposedly they later are in on the idea of, like, sometimes you do this and it's okay. So at the very least, they're faking a fight that to them is a believable thing. 00:59:52 Speaker 3: Okay, I just I didn't understand. 00:59:54 Speaker 1: I didn't get if they were if they were having an argument about something that actually happened, they're just doing it for Corey into pang his benefit, or if they've completely manufactured this the way. 01:00:04 Speaker 2: Cory manufactured this. But I still don't love it. 01:00:08 Speaker 3: I just didn't like either. 01:00:10 Speaker 1: It didn't seem like like Amy and Alan did not. I know, this sounds strange. It didn't even seem like Rusty and Betsy to me. Now, the whole thing was just weird. 01:00:20 Speaker 2: Alan frustratedly gives in, fine, let's get this over with so I can get back for the game. Amy turns on maximum sarcasm. The precious Phillies. I'm sure this game will make a difference between what fourth or fifth place? Alan can't believe this. What did you just say? Amy reiterates, they stink. You want to watch baseball? Move to Baltimore. Alan's still not comprehending this, but Amy's unapologetic. She holds out her hand for the keys she's driving. Corey tries to interfere with the argument, but he can't get a word in. Amy says Alan is a lunatic during rush hour, and Alan attests, it's not the traffic that makes me crazy. Then he mocks Amy, Oh look out, you're too close yield. Alan asks, if I'm such a bad driver, why do did you marry me? 01:01:02 Speaker 1: What? 01:01:02 Speaker 5: Yeah, I think you can marry somebody for being about driving. 01:01:05 Speaker 2: Oh yeah, oh yeah, Jens Jensen would have never married me if it was all about driving. He hates my driving. 01:01:10 Speaker 1: But by the way, just for the record, for the people out there wondering, the Baltimore Orioles hadn't been in the World Series since nineteen eighty three, so I don't know she would have picked move to Bold. 01:01:20 Speaker 2: Well maybe that's the joke that there even they were even worse than the phillies, and she's trying to be rude by being like, if you want to, if you want to watch real baseball, watch this. 01:01:29 Speaker 3: Which is which isn't even worse even worse team. Okay. 01:01:31 Speaker 7: I guess maybe that was okay. I said, joke a joke. Getting a joke, you have to research it. 01:01:36 Speaker 1: I googled, I would get http dive slash strip facts strip jetnaking. 01:01:47 Speaker 3: Girls, and all of a sudden, there's naked girls. I didn't get it. 01:01:51 Speaker 2: Corey tries to butt into this heated argument once again, but is ignored. Amy shouts, I wouldn't have if I listened to my mother. Alan's now glad he forgot her mother's birth and when June fourteenth rolls around, that's my brother's birthday. By the way, he may forget someone else's too. Amy breaks out into laughter. Alan asks, you think it's funny if I forget your birthday? Huh? To Alan surprise, Amy alerts him, that's your birthday, and I know just what I'm gonna get you. You beg lug. 01:02:19 Speaker 5: Are we so we're supposed to believe that he forgot her birthday and accidentally said his birthday? 01:02:24 Speaker 2: Hmm, yeah, he said yeah, he said his birthday, which, okay, of all the dates you could pick, they could have, that's Corey's birthday. That's but you wouldn't pick your own birthday. 01:02:35 Speaker 5: No, you would never forget for birthday. 01:02:38 Speaker 2: Alan's smiling now too, What are you gonna get me? Amy won't tell him, so he starts to tickle her. Meanwhile, Corey and to Panga are watching, very confused, now flirting, Amy says Alan can drive, but she begs him not to listen to the game on the radio because she wants to talk to him. They continue to walk away, holding each other lovingly. When Corey stops them, what is going on here? Tapega jumps in, who just said horrible things to each other? And then god, all lovey dovey. Corey snacks, you're explaining what just happened. 01:03:06 Speaker 5: Let's help me a couple of monologues. Can we all just stand in a line and explain the lesson of this episode? Can we do that? 01:03:12 Speaker 3: You know what would be good? 01:03:14 Speaker 2: Stand in a straight line? Corey snaps, Hey, I was going to say that. How come you say that? When I was going to say that? To Pega asks who cares? Who says it? As long as it gets said, Corey doesn't even remember what they're arguing about. To Pega points to Alan and Amy, we sound like them. Corey agrees. He asks his parents, why do we sound like you? Sean jumps into the conversation. Because you love each other no matter what crazy things he says, Or does you still love each other? 01:03:49 Speaker 5: So if he beats you, your honor. 01:03:58 Speaker 2: God, Corey asks, then why did we break up? Sean answers, because we're in high school and you think you're supposed to. Then he walks away. Amy continues, but when two people are really in love, it doesn't matter that they are a disagreement. Sometimes it comes with the territory. Alan adds, and when two people are really in love, they don't break up just because they have a fight. Love would be pretty dull if you agreed about everything all the time. Valid point, Yeah, yep, Amy smiles. Besides, then they'd never get to make up. Alan pulls her in and they kiss. They walk out of the restaurant, arm in arm, Corey reiterates to Topanga, when two people are in love, they don't break up just because of a fight. Topega smiles, want to make up? Now? They kiss? To seal the deal. Angela and Sean are still watching everything unfold. Angela says, that was the most incredible thing I've ever seen. 01:04:55 Speaker 5: Really hmmm. 01:04:58 Speaker 2: Sean smiles, thank you. Angela is confused, what like you had anything to do with it? Sean just gives her a knowing smile. To Panga and Corey make their way over. They want to tell Sean they're back together. They wanted him to be the first to know. Sean repeats the obvious news to Angela. Hey, Corey and Tapanga are back together. Angela sarcastically gasps, they are. Corey apologizes to Sean for putting any pressure on him to get the two back together. Corey admits, even though you're my best friend, no one could ever do that. Sean simply responds, I guess friendship only goes so far. Sean slyly raises a thumb and looks toward the staircase, and she. 01:05:33 Speaker 1: Ss where I saw the light go out of one of my best friend's eyes. 01:05:39 Speaker 3: Go back and watch this moment. Rider dies thumbs up. Dude, it is like it is. 01:05:48 Speaker 1: I just watched somebody come in and blow out the candle behind. 01:05:52 Speaker 5: Your eyes, Your soul made through the episode. Then it's the final moment you did. 01:05:56 Speaker 1: It was the final moment, like you got you you seriously you ran a marathon and at mile twenty five you passed out. 01:06:02 Speaker 3: It was like, unreally just you gave it? Like no, I was just like, was it really I have to give as? 01:06:09 Speaker 1: It was just like that, and then you just turn and it was like, I somebody please take if you've got a clear shot, take it. 01:06:15 Speaker 3: Yeah. 01:06:16 Speaker 5: I'm in college now, I'm an occidental. I'm studying literary theory. I'm going through a dairy dapphase, so like that's what I'm concerned with. It's like postmodern philosophy at this point. That's all. And and then like dating and like college life, like I was so not into what was going on on the set of Boy Bets World where I had to yeah, no. 01:06:37 Speaker 3: I watched that happen to watch it go back and look. 01:06:42 Speaker 5: I feel like this whole season. I mean like, yeah, it's so weird how little I remember because I just wasn't there. I just didn't care. Yea, I remember. I was like, and it's too bad because I could have been better, Like this is actually could have been some good acting stuff. 01:06:53 Speaker 2: But I just feel. 01:06:54 Speaker 1: Like you had some moments in this episode that were very good. 01:06:57 Speaker 5: You realize the moment this entire sea like compared to four season, Like fourth season, I feel like I was there, you know, I was still. I was still, but by now I'm like, no, I'm over the show. Yeah, which is too bad because you know they were still writing for I don't know, there's still some good stuff, but I wasn't showing up well. 01:07:15 Speaker 2: Angela sees this and grins at her boyfriend, proud of what he was able to pull off. And then the tag. We're in Phoenie's backyard. Eric and Jack walk by Phoenie, who's doing some casual gardening. Eric proudly says, salutations, my didactic friend. Phoene is shocked. Jack jumps in, Hi, he said, Hi. Phoenie nods, I know what he said. Does he know what he said? Eric laughs, Oh, mister Phoenie, I appreciate your sardonic jocularity. Jack reveals it's his word a day calendar. It took him some time, but he's finally got it down. Phoene's happy to hear it. Well, Eric, I salute you. A good vocabulary is an important asset in life. Eric responds, I'm certain my aeroudite loquaciousness will be most advantageous, particularly as regards intellectual discourse. Phoene whispers to Jack, I can see where this is going to get old quick. Jack begs him, can you snap him out of it? Phoene asks Eric, have you perused the tastefully lacivious Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue? Eric breaks his vocabulary trance Tushi's for sale cool, Toushi's for sale. 01:08:21 Speaker 3: If I just said it louder. 01:08:25 Speaker 5: Cool. 01:08:26 Speaker 2: Then he runs away, very giddy, now alone, Jack compliments Phoenie on being a really good teacher. Phoene shrugs, yeah, well, when you live next door to a house of psychos. 01:08:36 Speaker 5: Psychos and jerks like PHOENI, it's just he's over it. 01:08:40 Speaker 3: He's over He hasn't got it in a while. 01:08:43 Speaker 5: That's the problem. 01:08:44 Speaker 2: If you thought I was going to deliver good news at the end of this episode, you would be mistaken, because our next episode is season five, episode twenty two, promises paramises the problem episodepisode It's all about sex, Eric and I mean Alan and Amy are getting a hotel room in the same hotel as Corey and Topanga, and Corey and Tapanga are gonna I get I. 01:09:08 Speaker 1: Guess this mystery bag is this is this Eric with the with the the guy at the front desk, you can I can give you ten dollars or. 01:09:16 Speaker 3: This mystery bag is that the episode? 01:09:18 Speaker 5: Maybe I think I have a very small part in the episode. I don't remember what I'm doing. 01:09:22 Speaker 2: I guess I remember that Eric and I mean the Eric, Alan and Amy are getting a hotel room for sex, and Corey and Topanga, I guess are planning on having. 01:09:33 Speaker 5: Sex purposes for. 01:09:37 Speaker 7: Interest, for sex, for intracourse, marital intercourse, but like the same weekend as prom I just you. 01:09:47 Speaker 2: Know, I don't know. I don't remember anything else about. 01:09:49 Speaker 5: Disney Channel wouldn't air. 01:09:50 Speaker 3: Yeah, Eric goes to jail. 01:09:54 Speaker 2: What you go to jail? 01:09:56 Speaker 3: Isn't there one? Because I remember being handed Awa and No, that's coming up. That's a good episode. I'm looking forward to that one. 01:10:05 Speaker 1: Man. 01:10:05 Speaker 3: We had so many in a row that we're there, were really getting there. I mean it was really. 01:10:10 Speaker 2: Started real rocky. Then we had a chunk in the middle that we're like, uh yeah at the end. 01:10:17 Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot of a lot of our dear listeners kind of warned us of this, and even they're like kind of wait till season five. They're like, it's up and down, but when it's down, it's really down. But then you get, like, you know, some good ones, the cabin, you get the lodge, which is great acting, great writing, great directing. 01:10:31 Speaker 3: I mean, we have some that are bangers. 01:10:32 Speaker 5: And then it's I think Raging Corey might be my favorite episode. 01:10:38 Speaker 1: Yeah, there are some great, great episodes, so it's just this whole arc was really yeah, I don't know. 01:10:44 Speaker 2: Thank you all for joining us for this episode of Pod Meets World.
