00:00:00 Speaker 1: Welcome everyone. It is the Local Toy Dealers KSR postgame show. I met Jones. The Cats lose in Austin thirty four seventeen. You can give a shout if I'm nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. 00:00:15 Speaker 2: Uh. 00:00:15 Speaker 1: The game tonight was, you know, kind of a microcosm of the season. Some good moments, some good things, a lot of bad things, bad breaks. Tucky shoots itself in the foot some and ends up coming away with a seventeen point loss, which, honestly, if you watch the entire game, that kind of felt like about what the spread should have been, even though it was weird. Kentucky once again had a first and goal inside the five and was not able to score. They ended up with a field goal that they missed, but then they immediately got a touchdown on a you know what ended up being not a pick six but a fumble and got it right back. So it was just one thing right after the other, good fall by, bad fall by, good fall by, bad Cats end up losing. They're now going to finish SEC Play one in seven and a very disappointing season. I was sitting here kind of looking at the standings and a and m right now is losing at Auburn, and I was thinking about, you know, Penn State and Indiana both lost today and long story short, if then and this could happen, if if Tennessee were to lose to to Vandy, or if Alabama were to lose to to Auburn, Like there's a world where a three loss SEC team makes, uh, you know, makes the playoff. And I was sitting there thinking, Kentucky what probably has the hardest strength of schedule of any of the teams in the SEC, just by the nature of who they ended up drawing this year. And like those games Billy that at the start of the year we talked about us being able to potentially win South Carolina line of Florida, Auburn, Vandy. You of course lost them all, but because they beat Old Miss, like, there's a world where Kentucky fans could go, well, that could have been us. Now, obviously we weren't close to winning those games, but it sort of also highlights what a disappointment this year is. And Kentucky probably played its four best games this year in the SEC against against the four hardest teams. This was not their best game, but it was better than they played against Auburn, Vandy, Florida, and South Carolina. Probably it's it's very unfortunate to take this loss. This is not the end of it. It's just an example of what Kentucky sort of dealt with all season. If there's any hope from the game, it's that Cutter Bowley played well. I think this goes contrary to what I said last week, but I think after today Cutter should probably start in that final game against Louisville. I said, you know, Louisville's beatable this year, so you need to play the guy who gives you the best chance to win. I think after watching the second half, Cutter Bowley probably gives you gives you the best chance to win. And I think, more fundamentally, whether they decide to start Cutter or Brock going into this Louisville game, I think next year, you know, the future of Vander Griff at Kentucky is very much up in the air. Whether whatever you do. I mean, in some ways, what Mark Stoops is gonna decide by the game Saturday might be his decision for next season. I think if you start Cutter Bowley Saturday, you're all but committing to not bringing back Brock Vandergriff next year. And if you start Brock, well, then the question would be are you just sitting Cutter next year? What? Almost whatever you do Saturday is probably what you're gonna do next season. So that's a weird spot. But Brock has had eleven games and it's just not happened. And Cutter wasn't perfect today, but we saw flashes and he made quicker decisions and probably gives you more upside because the reality is he's got three more years. There's also the fact that I believe Billy Cutter's played four games? Am I right about that? 00:04:29 Speaker 3: I think it's three? 00:04:31 Speaker 1: He only played three, played against Murray Florida, he played tonight. Did he get in in another game? 00:04:38 Speaker 3: That's the three I'm counting. 00:04:40 Speaker 1: Okay, Well, if that's the case, then he could play against Louisville and not burn a red shirt. I thought he had played four, at which point playing against Louisville would burn it. So if he's only played three, then that would take that part of the decision making out. Maybe we can confirm that's the case, because I do think if he played four, then that's an even more difficult decision. But regardless, a disappointing season, and more fundamentally, you know, going into this Louisville game Saturday. Next Saturday, we're gonna play Louville, and then that next week, which is the first week of December, will be maybe one of the most hectic weeks college football has ever seen across the country and here specifically, right on top of each other. You're gonna have the coaching change season, the transfer portal and signing day is December fifth, So you're gonna have a week of a lot of stuff happening quickly. So Mark Stoopes, whatever's gonna happen after that is gonna happen quick Now, all indications are he wants to come back. What I would say is I'm okay with that in theory, but I need to hear over the course of the next week and after the Louisville game, a coach who's not just complaining about what's wrong with college football and what's wrong with society, because that's what I've heard for the last year is how much we gotta raise money and that stinks, and we gotta do this and it stinks, and I don't like doing this, and it stinks and he's the grumpy old man kind of yelling at the clouds, saying, back in my day it was different. Well, it's not your day anymore. It's this day, and this day is gonna look even more different in a year. And I need to hear a guy who wants to embrace that Bush Hampden. It's not been a great year with him as OC. I think if Mark comes back, they're gonna bring him back just because they can't have another offensive coordinator. That would be seven years in a row with a different offensive coordinator six. I don't think they can do that either. So he's gonna have to convince this fan base, and he's gonna have to convince, at least for me as a fan, that this is a dude who sees what's coming and is ready to be part of the future of it For Kentucky. I'm gonna admit, like he's gonna that's gonna take some selling from him to do. And he's gonna have to convince the roster, and he's gonna have to convince the boosters, and he's gonna have to convince the fans, and he's gonna have to convince recruits and he's gonna have to convince the people in the portal. If I'm Mark, I sit here and think about this next week, because it's gonna happen quick after the Louisville game, win or lose. Is this what I wanna do? Is this what I wanna do? And if the answer is yes, that I'm in, I'll be there saying let's go and I'll be doing what I can do. But if you're not all in, then I don't think you should do it, because the last thirteen or fourteen months of complaining about the state of college football just didn't gonna work. It is what it is. John Wayne is not coming back to star in a blockbuster picture next Christmas or next summer. Right. Seinfeld's not on TV anymore. You can't buy CDs at the CD store. This is college football today. If you don't like it, nobody's making you do it. But if you're gonna do it, it's time to adjust. So we don't have a season like the one we just had. There's a lot of teams that started poorly and finished differently. Florida started what O and flat five right or one in four maybe oh to five? They just beat Old miss today and they're going to go to a bowl. Amazingly, Auburn was awful at the beginning of the year, lost to cow They're up twenty one to nothing right now in Texas A and m Vandy lost to Georgia State in week two, beat Alabama leading LSU on the road. Right now, and we have seen a season that was disappointing, wimper and get slowly worse all year to where we're the second worst team in the SEC. Only Mississippi State is worse. And we go into a game against Louisville where they had a tragically disappointing loss last week and came back and won thirty seven to nine against the Pitt team that looked like they were headed to the ACC Championship a couple weeks ago. It is hard to be optimistic about the future as it is. And for Mark Stoops, in my opinion, he's got a week to get his mindset right so that whatever happens after that Louisville game, if we beat him like we've done the last five or six years, if we lose at home to him for the first time in a long time, whatever it is, if he wants to go forward. He's got to make a plan of action, be definitive, stop whining about what college football is today, and lead Kentucky into the next generation. If he can't do that, then it might be best if we do different things. Only he knows the answer to that Tuck. He's not go firing. I have a hard time believing he just walks away and leaves all that money on the table without having another So he's got to decide. Is this for him? It's up to him. He could do it, I think, But the last sixteen months of the Stoops are really going back to last season. It's not gonna happen if that Mark Stoops is the Mark Stoops that comes out of that game against Louisville on Saturday eight five, twenty two eighty seven. Love to hear your thoughts on today. Uh, you're are you excited about cutter bowlie for the future? Am? What do you think about what I just said? Do you agree with that? Disagree with it? I'm here with Billy right now. Auburn up twenty one nothing against A and M. A and M may end up playing themselves out of the playoffs on the planes tonight. We'll see, We'll take a break and be right back. It's a Local Toy Dealers KSR postgame show. Welcme back. It is the Local Toy Dealers KSR postgame show. You know, sometimes on on the text machine, you do get a sense, Billy of how people hear what they want to hear. All right, Mark Soop's been here probably what has he been here? 00:12:08 Speaker 3: Twelve twelve? 00:12:11 Speaker 1: I think without question that was probably my harshest segment during his twelve years commentary about his coaching. Would you agree with that? 00:12:21 Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I'd say that's pretty close. 00:12:22 Speaker 1: I think that's probably true. You know, but it's also how I feel like I'm not I'm not taking a shot or not taking I mean, it's just how I feel. And I get a message it says you putting your stake in Mark Stoops is not a good business strategy. Don't know how you could say that. Where did I just put my stakes in Mark Stupents? Literally this, I mean literally, that's what you took from from that conversation. It just goes to show like people will just hear what they want to hear. Yeah, what person rights? What person rights? Matt, We've got fire Stoops. There's no doubt every fan I know what's him gone, everyone, every single one of them. I don't think that's true. Well maybe everyone you know, but every fan does it. But I would also say you got the money because it's a lot of money, a lot of money, and the people that would pay that money are not the people that woun't have gone, So where are you gonna get it? The people that would pay bouts like that, the people that contemplated by paying byouts like that with John cal Perry didn't end up doing. Just to think about John cal Perry, think about how done this fan base was with John cal Perry. They couldn't they couldn't raise the money to fire him. So and the boosters didn't even like him. They like Mark. So I just don't know where people think. I mean, that's a fantasy world. This is gonna be Mark's decision. I'm living in the real world. You can live in the fantasy world that you could dismiss him. I live in the real world, which is he is either gonna decide himself to go or I guess there's a world where they could do like some kind of mutual buyout, But I have not heard that that's gonna happen. Who knows anything can happen. But like the day, you can't the idea that you're gonna fire him. I just don't know where you think that money's gonna come from? The money tree? Like it's just I don't know where that would exist. All right, who's up first? 00:14:23 Speaker 3: Skyler? 00:14:25 Speaker 1: Skyler? Go ahead, Skyler? 00:14:28 Speaker 4: Hey, Matt, Hey, Billy. A couple of things. Can I make a comment and ask a question? First is I may be in the minority. I do not want Mark Stoops to go. I think he's built a good culture, and I think cutter bully stepping in to day renewed a little hope for the future. I thought his swagger, moxie, command and everything was great. 00:14:47 Speaker 1: I agree with that. By the way it is, it is a way to feel some confidence after that game. I mean, there was I think for a lot of people a sense of okay, now maybe you have something here. 00:15:00 Speaker 4: Yeah, and you know, I don't know. I don't know where you think the offensive line went wrong. I feel bad for Brock because he's just had no coverage. And maybe it's not that we need somebody really quick, really witty back there. But but I don't know did Zack Yinser just not do his job for however long he was Is that what happened. 00:15:19 Speaker 1: I think it's a combination, so buil going forward. I think it's a combination of a couple things. And I appreciate the call. I think there are people who would tell you that starting two or like three or four years ago, Freddie always used to say this, we got away from really giving the young guys reps and developing depths so that when people left they could be replaced, and that we lost and then we were probably missed on recruiting in a couple of years with offensive linemen, and so we had like two years where our big blue wall system kind of got off track. Then if you ask people around the program, they'll say that the guy last year was a disaster. I mean that's that's generally what people believe. And then it all culminates this year where you bring in a couple of transfers, they don't really work, you don't have depth. Some of the guys that you thought would be your star warts just kind of were disappointing, and it led to a disaster. I think it's the worst offensive line I can remember. I mean I'm sure maybe during Mark's first or second year it was worse, maybe years past that, but I can't remember a worse offensive line. I remember plenty of worse receivers, quarterbacks, defenses. I don't remember a worse offensive line than this one, especially passing running and it's been okay, but from pass protection, it's the worst one we've had. So it's hard to You're right, I don't know about with Brock, Like, I don't know, but I think, however good Brock is or isn't. It just seemed to me you got a better spark with Cutter, and he's your future, so like we might as well go on. By the way, You're right, Billy, he's only played three games, so the red shirt question would not come into effect in deciding who to play. 00:17:11 Speaker 3: Yeah, and I've seen enough of Brock. I mean, it's time to start Cutter. He is the future. There's no doubt in my mind. 00:17:17 Speaker 1: Well, Billy has spoken, it has been decided. You said that so definitively, Well, I, Billy are sports. Yeah, I've seen enough. Jimmy, Jimmy, go ahead, Jimmy. 00:17:37 Speaker 5: Hey, Jimmy loves you guys, But Jimmy seconds Billy's statement, Uh yeah, Brocks Brock, Bye bye Brock. But Matt, really, I'm just I'm just so confused. I don't I started the season so optimistic, so hopeful, got season tickets for the first time in my life, and then you know, things happen and I just got really sad, and then we beat over and I was like, yeah, here we go, all right, and then you know. 00:18:03 Speaker 6: Now I just I don't even know how to feel anymore. 00:18:06 Speaker 1: Man Well, I would say, all right, so you're really disappointed by the game against South Carolina. We all are. But then you're right, beat Old Miss. We go beat Old Miss in some ways, you kind of get that, you get that game back in some ways by winning that one, because I don't think most people thought we'd win. Now, I mean that the definitive and I appreciate the call. The definitive series of the year is Vandy Florida. All and probably we'll look back and say the Vandy game is the definitive game of the year. They come in there and they beat you, and they beat you, right if they beat Alabama, so there should have been no like surprise, and they didn't beat you, fluky, They just outplayed you and you got out played for the second time in three years by Vandy at home. And that's I think when the fan base said, yeah, I don't know, I don't know, and I think that's where they still are right now. And you know we had first collar still support stoops second one. I don't know, But you can't lose the bandy at home two out of three years. You just can't. By the way, eight sec games, ten offensive touchdowns. 00:19:25 Speaker 3: That doesn't even sound real. 00:19:27 Speaker 1: I mean that's brutal. Eight games, ten touchdowns. Like con we're the only Power five team in America that didn't score twenty one points in a conference game. 00:19:40 Speaker 3: And you're gonna bring the offensive coordinator. 00:19:41 Speaker 1: Back, well, but can you change it again? I mean, you know it's and at some point, how do we keep blaming these offensive coordinators? How many people do we have to send packing from here before we stopped to start thinking maybe it's not their fault. 00:19:59 Speaker 3: Yeah, and I don't they're gonna fire the offensive line coach either. They just brought him back. 00:20:04 Speaker 1: But you know what I mean, Like, I'm not saying Bush Hampden has looked great, but like, how you know we did this to Eddie Graham. We did this to Rick Skangaillo. We did this in some ways to Liam who left on his own. But people didn't love his second time around either. Really, the only time people have ever been happy was the first year Liam. 00:20:26 Speaker 3: And Eddie, the Linn Bowden year. 00:20:28 Speaker 1: Yeah, but people were done with Eddie every and and all Eddie did was win, you know. I mean I was too. I was kind of done with Eddie, and I now you sit there and go, Eddie. We won every We won every year Eddie was was the coordinator. 00:20:45 Speaker 3: So here's here's one more thing. Five times in the last six games, Kentucky's gotten inside the five yard line and gotten no points. 00:20:52 Speaker 1: I know, six times on the air. Five times in the last six game. That's brutal. I mean, they but part of it is they can't do anything on third and short, fourth and short. They just think they you know, we took for granted in the Bennie and Chris Rodriguez years that they could just hand it off on third and one and we'd get the first down. And that just can't. We just can't do that. And it's not only it's the running backs fault, our offensive line, the middle, our two tackles, cannot block anyone in pass protection, and the interior of our line can god get any push on runs up the middle, And like, what are you gonna do? I mean, we're left having to run gadget plays and we're clearly not very good at those either. So who's next, Isaac, Isaac, go ahead, Isaac, Hey. 00:21:45 Speaker 2: I got a couple of things. First off, I'm sure people have seen this that, but it's the first time since then ten nineteen eighty two UK team that we have non score run of twenty points in an SEC game in the season. So that's pretty bad. 00:22:03 Speaker 1: That's pretty bad. Yep. 00:22:06 Speaker 2: Yeah, And then whatever happens is fine as long as Eric Wulford is fired as soon as the level game is up next week. I think, did you get it to him? Stoop stays that's fine. It's been an absolute disaster with him under the offensive line. 00:22:28 Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I know what you mean. I just don't know if that'll happen. We'll see, but I don't know if that would happen. I also know I appreciate the call. Boise State and Wyoming Billy right now are tied at ten. If Wolming we're to win that game, especially now that Armies getting dismantled as by the way, I told you they would Billy. You know who would get the probably the non Power five birth Tu Lane, Tu Lane. And if you think John it's gonna be available if Tu Lane goes to playoff, the answer is gonna be no. So that's another thing to watch. I mean, we're one half away from John Summer all likely finding his way into the into the playoffs. Not saying just say who's. 00:23:17 Speaker 3: Next, Let's go to Dave. 00:23:20 Speaker 1: Dave, go ahead, Dave. 00:23:23 Speaker 7: Hey, Matt, first time caller here, who are what's up? Just want I just wanted to say, man, I'm just like the previous caller, first time having season tickets thanks to my awesome brother Jim. And it was an incredible time at that Georgia game, being in that atmosphere and just it was unbelievable and I was hooked. And it's been so discouraging to see so many penalties. I lost count this season of big plays and penalties happening and wiping out those big plays, and I'm sure that has to be discouraging to the team, the people that made those plays. 00:23:54 Speaker 1: Man, I mean, brutal penalties brutal holds and then today, I mean I wouldn't I wouldn't have called it because I think of time and setting, they shouldn't have called it. But what is Max harriston a scene you're doing smacking a dude? Nay, I know somebody hit you, But like you know, we'd stopped them. They were stopped, they were gonna have to take a field goal, and then they get a first time score on the next play. 00:24:20 Speaker 7: I just want to I want to believe in Stoops and I like your opening monologue, but is he the coach that can take this to the to the next level of nil and all that stuff? But what's been disappointing is just the discipline of the team and the penalties, and it's been so discouraging. And I want to believe in Stoops, But like you said, is he gonna be is he gonna embrace this next this name. 00:24:40 Speaker 1: Where you just asked me, is he gonna be able to let me ask you, let me kind of throw it back to you. Do you think he's able. 00:24:46 Speaker 7: To now it's the last few months of just complaining. I just feel like he's burned out. I feel like, as my brother said it, feels like cow without the arrogance. And that's kind of how it feels like he's just burned out. But if he's not, and if he wants to be into this, which you know, he's the football coach and he built this program, I just I want to believe in him. But I'm just listening to him talk and watching how he acts, and I'm just like, man, can he do it? I don't know. 00:25:15 Speaker 1: You know, he's right, he's not arrogant like like cal, He's not off. I appreciate the call. He's not like sitting here saying I know much so much more than you guys. But dude, you got to be into this. Like the day you say, the day you're not excited to get up and do your job, especially when it's a job that like you don't have to do because you don't have to be the coach here, Like why like then, why are you doing it? You know that's I had somebody in radio who's now no longer in radio say to me, the day Matt you start disliking doing it, you owe it to the listeners to get out. And I've always thought of that. I mean, I still love doing it, but the day that Mark is like I don't want to do this, then he not needs to not not do it. And the discipline has been awful this year. I mean, discipline has been an issue the whole Stoops era. Hisse teams have usually been so good and worked so hard that they've been able to kind of get over it, but it's been this year especially, it's just been terrible the discipline. The discipline problems on this team this year, not off the field, but just like the way they play have just been constant. And then the other issue is holding, which is really just a talent issue more than anything else. Who's next, j DJ, What's up? 00:26:38 Speaker 8: What's up? 00:26:38 Speaker 2: Matt? 00:26:38 Speaker 6: What's up? 00:26:39 Speaker 9: Billy thinks for taking my call? Shout out to Gavin last night. He killed it, went to high school with him. He's a great, great guy. But with that being said, you know you were talking about Mark stoops selling point earlier in the in the show, and I think his selling point is is cutter Bowllie. Because he's a young talent. Maybe you go to your superstars try to get you know, Dankey to stay. If you can, I doubt doubt it. But if you can get bury On to stay, you know keep people from transferring. 00:27:06 Speaker 1: Let me ask you a question if you were burry On. If you were Burryon, would you stay? Be honest, you're burying you got one year left to play. You got one year yet to play. You could have gone to college anywhere in America. You decided to come here. You've got mark, you got what a true freshman now will be a sophomore quarterback likely be in your quarterback. You have the opportunity, I'm sure he will to go to a top ten program. If you were Burrying Brown, would you stay? 00:27:42 Speaker 9: So that's hard for me because I'm I'm born and raised in Kentucky. 00:27:45 Speaker 1: So but let's say you weren't because he wasn't. So let's say you weren't. That's from Nashville. 00:27:52 Speaker 9: If I put my mind setting the barry On, I'll probably leave. 00:27:55 Speaker 1: To be honest with you, Yeah, And I think that's the problem that's gonna be the problem is you're gonna have a lot of kids out there who are deciding they have a year left, and they've got to decide whether this is the place I could you know the freshman. If stoops is all in the freshman, that's an easier sell I actually think, but for the seniors and the transfer guys, I just think it's gonna be a tougher sell. 00:28:25 Speaker 9: Right. And then I have one question too as well, if I may, but if we would have started Cutter all year, do you think our season would have been better or worse? And I'll hang up, listen and thank you guys. 00:28:35 Speaker 1: I don't know if it could have been much worse. I appreciate the call, you know, don't I don't know that it would have necessarily been It's hard to say. I mean, like he's played. I kind of throw the Murray game out so that at that point what we've seen he threw six passes against Florida, no completions, and then this half, so like I don't know, I will say there's clearly a spark there. And my reason last week for saying play Brock the last two games is he gives you the best chance to win. Okay, Now I can't say that with confidence. So now I'm not sure who gives you the best chance to win, and I probably maybe even slightly lean towards Cutter. Well, if that's the case, and Cutter is your future, then just go ahead and play Cutter that's that's kind of the way I look at it. But the reality is, if you start Cutter Saturday, Billy, don't you agree If he starts Cutter Saturday, the Brock era is over now at the end of the year. I think he has to. So it is kind of crazy, like you're deciding who's going to be your quarterback next year, probably in who you play Saturday, because if you say you're if you think Cutters better to win Saturday than Brock against your rival in a game you could still win, then you're basically telling Brock you're not gonna start next year, at which point he's gonna leave. 00:30:07 Speaker 3: So you know, Brock's just gotten worse as the season's gone on. I mean, I've been rooting for I. 00:30:13 Speaker 1: Think he's kind of beat up. Yeah, I think our offensive line is awful. 00:30:17 Speaker 3: I will give them the benefit of doubt. The helmet communication didn't seem to be working in the game early on, so I don't know that's it. That's just been a headache all year. 00:30:26 Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, who knows, Steve what more and will take a break? Ethan, Ethan, go ahead, Ethan. 00:30:32 Speaker 10: Hey, Billy, Matt uh So, I got a comment and a question here. I know you say that like most of the negativity towards Dukes, it's probably more on Twitter. 00:30:42 Speaker 6: Uh. 00:30:43 Speaker 10: But from what I've the people that I've talked to, I'm a season ticket holder, the other season ticket holders that I've talked to, there's been quite a few that have said they're not going to renew their tickets unless there's a drastic change, whatever that may be. 00:30:57 Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, bad football tickets unlike basketball. Like basketball, people don't like to stop buying season tickets because they don't know if they'll ever get them back. Right, football, you could stop renewing and you could still get it back in a year or two. So I do wonder like if people would be more likely to not renew, and you know, I don't think that would be how they make their decision, but that would obviously be a negative, right. 00:31:26 Speaker 10: And then my question is if you think there was a school outside of the SEC that would be willing to pay Stoops what he is would be making now on this contract, do you think that would make him more likely to leave now or do you think his heart is just set here at Kentucky. 00:31:45 Speaker 1: I think if there was a good job that would take Iowa for example, Well, he would go to Iowa, but that's his alma mater. But take like, uh yeah, so let's take like, like, what's what's in Iowa? Like school? 00:32:00 Speaker 2: It's not let's fake. 00:32:01 Speaker 1: Can we say too late? Well, no, that's a worse school. So like like like take a take a big ten school that's not Iowa. So Wisconsin. Right, Let's say Wisconsin came up and they wanted him. Yeah, I think he'd do it now. I think he would sort of take a fresh start. But the other thing is, I don't know how long he wants to coach period, right, So if he in his mind only wants to coach for two or three years, does it make sense to go start over at a new program. Maybe not, you know, so I don't know. I don't know what's in his head. I think, you know, I haven't talked to him about it. The people I know aren't sure exactly what he thinks. I think the working assumption is at UK that he's going to be back, but that's easy to say it. But what if we go lose by two touchdowns next week to Louisville. 00:32:54 Speaker 10: You know, I don't know, right, So honestly, I almost. I hate to say it, but I feel like it's best in Kentucky's long term interest if it's a rough game next week, because it's gonna be just. 00:33:08 Speaker 6: Like last year. 00:33:09 Speaker 10: We're gonna beat Louisville, hopes they're gonna be high going in the offseason, and then it's just another cycle. 00:33:15 Speaker 1: Well, I appreciate the call. I don't think it's like last season. I think it's worse because last season we still made a bowl game. We were making a bowl game even if we didn't beat Louisville, so we wanted to beat them, but we also beat them there. They were really good last year on paper, we were not. This is different. They're not as good. This year. We're not making a bowl game. It's at home. So I actually think this loss would be bad, And I don't think necessarily we've all processed what losing the louisvill will be like, because, be quite frank with you, we haven't lost to them in a long time. So you know, we'll see. If I'm nine two eight, twenty two eighty seven, we're gonna take a break an him down twenty one to seven to Auburn and driving Alabama and Oklahoma tied at three. That's a brutally boring game. Also, if Alabama loses tonight shakes everything up. Indiana probably got saved h to make the playoff with Old missus loss, even though I don't know if they deserve it, they'll probably make it. Now that Old miss has lost. We'll take a break. Be right back. This is the Local Toy Dealers KSR post gip shop. Welcome back. It is the Local Toy Dealers KSR post game show. I'm gonna try to play this through my microphone here, Billy, so I'll see how this sound. This is Uh, we'll see how this sounds. This is Mark asked to ask if Mark Stoops asked about Bush Hampden's future, what I mean, that's not even. 00:34:49 Speaker 11: That's that's hard g even answer because I don't want to be the headline. Of course he's gonna be back. Yeah, a lot, a lot of moving pieces that we need to get. 00:35:03 Speaker 1: Better, you know. So there you go. That's uh, that's the comment. Sorry, now it's playing another video. That's the comment. Was that were able to hear that, Billy? Yeah? 00:35:13 Speaker 3: Yeah, for the most part, what. 00:35:15 Speaker 1: Do you mean, for the most part the beginning were the beginning. Yeah, that's hard to hear in the video too, but you heard Stoops. Yes, Okay, so there you go. That's that Mark Saint Bush is back. So if Stoops is back, then Bush Hamden his back. That's how I would I would read that. And I mean, but you know, again, you got to take the coach at his word. He he has seemed to suggest he would be back as well, So you know that's the thing. There won't be I mean, you're gonna run at least at the top the top guys back. Now, there have been there have been rumors of Brad White being looked at at Florida State as a as a defensive coordinator option. No idea if they would even want him or or if that would be an offer. But that's you know, that's always a possibility too. But at least it seems like if you get Mark Stoops back, you are also going to have the same offensive coordinator's. 00:36:11 Speaker 3: Nate is next. 00:36:12 Speaker 1: Nate go ahead and Nate. 00:36:15 Speaker 4: Yeah, man, I mean, there's just no room for optimism right now, because, like you said, say, if we get a fired up Stoops next years, he's ready to go. He's ready to take us into the future. Well, we're still punning on next year because we're losing regardless of transfers. We're losing half of our defense and most of them stars. We're losing all of our offensive line, albeit terrible, but we have no debt. So then you're relying on buying five offensive line and then seeing if that's going to work. And let me tell you this, because I have it from pretty good sources. If Brock van Regarth is back next year, Cutter Bowl will not be here. And that's a fact. 00:36:54 Speaker 1: Well, I think we'll know the answer to that question based on what happens starts Saturday, right, I mean, I think the Brock Cutter thing will be decided by who starts that game Saturday, Because I I kind of agree with you. I can't see a scenario where Brock is back and Cutter is back. Now, you know that can change. People sometimes say that during the year and then it shifts later. But I tend to agree with you that that's the most likely scenario. I think if the staff believe that, then you're gonna see Cutter play. That's my that's my guess. I think they believe highly in Cutter, so so we'll. 00:37:35 Speaker 4: See you know, But but Matt, can you address my first part though, like, do you how do you see us? 00:37:43 Speaker 6: Not? 00:37:44 Speaker 4: Because next year, I believe I think with in the last three season winning. 00:37:48 Speaker 1: For I think it can be very see that's part of my my pessimism is what you just said, Our schedule next year is hard. Okay, I'm I mean our schedule it's the same teams, but we flip who's home and who's away, and it's I think it's harder. Now you you'll have the You're gonna have all the good teams at home the bad teams away. Now when you if you want to make a run, that's not like if you had a really good team, you'd want the schedule they have next year. But if you don't, you could easily go zero to eight or one in seven in conference. So that's what makes it hard. I appreciate the call. No, it would be hard for me to be really optimistic. I mean, let's look at the best optimistic case. Dane will go to the draft. I think it's almost certain that's not inside knowledge. That's the fact that he's projecting the fourth round. And if you're dain key with all that's happening, you're projecting the fourth round, you gotta go. Okay, you got a ton of guys graduating on defense, and then you got dudes like the d'Al walker's going so you're gonna probably lose seven defensive starters. You know who's coming back that you're excited about, Well, they got a couple of freshman receivers. You like Ferrier, Gilmore will Cox. Think you got will Cox at running back, you got Willie Rodriguez at tight ends. You got some weapons. But offensive line is a massive question mark, and defense it's just gonna be all new. Front seven in defense is what would really worry me. A lot of these guys in the secondary have had to play this year to fill in for people, so I have a little more confidence that they'll But the front seven, I mean, you're just starting over, and yeah, I don't know. By the way, I told you. 00:39:43 Speaker 3: Notre Dame was gonna I had to turn that off. 00:39:45 Speaker 1: Turn that it's thirty five to seven. That was the easiest bet. The fact that was fourteen was ridiculous. And you wanted to pick army. 00:39:55 Speaker 3: Respect our troops. Please respect our troops. 00:39:57 Speaker 1: I respect them, I respect them. I want them to be trooping, not playing against Notre Dame in Yankee Stadium. Who's next? 00:40:04 Speaker 3: Amazing they lost in Northern Illinois this year. 00:40:07 Speaker 1: I mean that isn't a That is a bizarre loss. But go ahead, Jerry, because Northern Illinois is not even good six and five and six or something. Jerry, go ahead, Jerry. 00:40:19 Speaker 8: Hey man, I don't care who you start quarterback. Okay, give Cutter Bowlie four games behind this offensive line, he's gonna be in the same shape vandergriff as in with happy feet and scared of death back here behind that line and not well, it's until you get until you get rid of these coaches and that offensive line. I don't care. 00:40:40 Speaker 1: And let me ask you a question, Jerry, because you know you've been called a long time. I like you. You're you're negative, but I but you're consistently negative. When you say coaches, who do you mean? 00:40:53 Speaker 8: Hamden and offensive line coach? 00:40:57 Speaker 1: When I play you the clip with stoops Hamden's back, which, what do you say? Then? 00:41:04 Speaker 8: What I say is is I think Steus has gotten a reputation with these offensive coaches that they're not knocked on. He didn't have offensive coordinators knocked on his door. 00:41:16 Speaker 12: And yeah, I think he did. 00:41:18 Speaker 1: I think he did for a while, but I think you're right. I mean, let me say, all right, so we've seen what Liam's done in the NFL, right, and Jerry Hampden was very well respected. I mean everyone I talked to, the same people that were telling me when we got Liam three years ago. Because again, you know, I met some people through my NFL show who were saying to me, Liam's a great get. They were saying the same thing to me about Bush. Which makes me wonder Jerry if like, if we were to let him go, if he wouldn't just go somewhere else and be really good. 00:41:56 Speaker 8: Well, the first thing I would say is the Mountain West Anteus and when you're in the SEC, you're in the against the best. 00:42:07 Speaker 1: Limb had ever been an offensive coordinator. Was like, what Monment when he came here? 00:42:12 Speaker 8: Yeah, but but but when he came here, he he was able to meet the level. And the thing that worries me is Lim was the guy that recruited all these quarterbacks. And it wouldn't shock me if if if Cutter and the vander Griff left and we lose some of these guys who we've recruited, because once again, they were recruited by Liam Cohen. And it's just and it's just a lot of the a lot of the offensive play call I've seen. We're just bizarre. You know, you've got an offensive line that's Swiss cheese and you're on fourth and short and you're gonna run out of the shotgun. You know you're and give the defense three yards. That's crazy. I mean, the best play called was when they threw the ball in fourth and short. And and I just I can said and and then Alabama's Alabama's off of line last year couldn't pass protect, and now we can't pass protect this year. What's the common denominator? 00:43:06 Speaker 1: Well, I think I agree with you about the offensive line coach. I think it's hard to imagine a world where it makes sense to bring him back. You're exactly right. I mean the Alabama that Alabama lost a national title last year because of their offensive line, and he was the kip so and I appreciate it. 00:43:24 Speaker 3: Just go ahead, Oh sorry, I cut him off. 00:43:26 Speaker 1: That's okay, I'm sorry about that. Jerry. Jerry's a good call. Jerry's been calling since the Joker day, so he's one of the few football postgamers that I that has been from day one. Who's next? 00:43:39 Speaker 3: Corey's next? 00:43:39 Speaker 1: Corey? Go ahead, Corey, Hey, Matt. 00:43:43 Speaker 12: I got a couple of things here. I tend to agree with the idea that Stoops. I mean, he's the best coach we've ever had, that's pretty obvious. But I do think going into the this nil world and the transfer portal is just so accessible now you can re build in a week, almost half of the season's over. I think this idea that Stoops is the one savior for Kentucky football is not true anymore. Maybe five years ago when recruiting was a big deal and developing players, but now you can go to the portal immediately, so you really just need a guy that's connected with I think that's actually true. 00:44:20 Speaker 1: I think that's a really good point, and it's a it's a point that is important to make. That mad that I did think that two three years ago, and I think I was right, But I think you're right in that's changed now, Like now you can look at Indiana like you can rebuild a team overnight. And the thing that Mark is great at I'm not saying it's replaceable, but you can find another way to do it now, maybe in a way you couldn't three or four years ago. 00:44:57 Speaker 12: Yeah, And what I mean with that being said, what really about the way his contract and all this stuff is going to end up playing out unless he for some reason wants to go somewhere else or steps down with a pay cut of some kind, which is unlikely. We're almost in a lame duck period here where maybe he comes back for two years with a little bit of fire, but at the end of the day and two years, we're going to be in the same situation we're in now. So in my opinion, if there's any way to just start that process now, I think it's better because what is the upside of him coming back for two years? 00:45:32 Speaker 1: Let me say to you, I don't totally disagree with that, And not only is it lame duck, it's lame duck in what I would argue will be the most important two years in college football in the last twenty five years, because, as we've talked about on the Morning Show, the rules for the next twenty five years of college athletics are going to be made in the next year or two, and you gotta be ready. It's gonna change and I think you're gonna this is a year of flux. I think next year is gonna be a year of flux. But then I think that next year the rules are gonna be set, and whoever locks in is gonna succeed, and whoever does it is gonna get left behind. And you can and if you're not careful, you're gonna be a Nebraska and like just get left behind permanently. Whereas there are teams that can lock into this new era and might create football powerhouses, uh coming up. So I appreciate the call. I mean, I to put it a different way, here's one of the great things. There's gonna be a lot of negative things about the new rules in college sports, but here's gonna be one of the positive things. They're basically putting a salary cap in. Now you'll be able to go above and beyond the salary cap. But I've talked to some people in college football who like think don't think most teams will need to do that because it's not like the NBA, where like Steph and Lebron are so much much better than everybody else, like or were in their primes. Like this is a case where there's a lot of guys you can win with, and all these schools are gonna have money to spend, so it's gonna kind of even the playing field. But you better be ready to compete in that world, and you better be loving that world because it's gonna be a different kind of person that succeeds, right, It's gonna be a different kind of person, the guy who can intelligently build a team. Think about what Mark's done at Kentucky basketball. We don't have the most talented players, but he has put together a very smart team using the pieces, using the money that we had. That's gonna be college football now, and we need a dude that's ready to do that. A five nine, twenty two eighty seven. We'll do one more and take a final break. Who's next? 00:47:43 Speaker 3: Wild Bill? 00:47:45 Speaker 1: Wild Bill? What's up? Hey? 00:47:48 Speaker 6: Can you hear me? 00:47:50 Speaker 2: No? 00:47:50 Speaker 1: Yes? Go ahead? 00:47:52 Speaker 13: Sorry, So I had a bunch of things written down, but I'm just I've been focusing on soups ever since. 00:47:58 Speaker 4: You know. 00:47:59 Speaker 13: The end of the game is like where the conversation is going right now. But the overarching theme in his era, with all the good he's done on defense, excellent draft picks, guys in the NFL like changed. Our program been the best we've seen. It's offense and consistency and community at quarterback, and it's been just like a it's like nails on a talkboard with qb at uk and he's not willing to like totally get away from his defensive nature and football and like actually open up the offense and take us to a new level. But at the same time, it's like, with the landscape changing, we need money to allow us to do that, Like he has to change first, and I think we can go forward with money and like how we can build a squad if that makes sense. 00:48:48 Speaker 1: So totally agree with you. I mean that listen, it's a different world than college football. I appreciate the college different world football. Like, guys don't want to play three yards in a cloud of dust, and I think Mark's natural mind said is to do that now. He would say to you, I'm not telling these coaches what to do now, And he may even be I mean, he may be right about that, but you know, facts are facts. We just had the worst offensive season in terms of touchdowns Kentucky's had since we were zwer in ten, So you know, it is what it is. We'll take a break, come back for the final segment. This is the Kentucky Select Chevy Dealers KSR pregame Welcome back. It is the local Tony Dealers KSR postgame show. A lot of yeah, you know, you get the wrong wins sometimes a lot of big time action with playoff implications going on right now. Alabama losing at the half to Oklahoma ten to three, a and m losing at the half to Auburn twenty one to seven, and Boise tied with Wyoming at ten with Wyoming driving. Does Wyloming have the worst colors of any football program in America? 00:49:59 Speaker 3: Yeah, I think they're pretty close. 00:50:01 Speaker 1: If not, it's either Wildman or Minnesota. Minnesotas are pretty terribles. Yeah, it's just a terrible color. But wild mean, I don't know why you would voluntarily choose brown as your color. Brown is the brown is objectively the worst color. Yeah. Seven seven two seven four uh five two five four. One person rites, Matt Cutter gives me confidence. But if I thought that Covington or Cutter was going to leave, I'd be done. Another person says, Matt, thank you for the Paddington I recommendation. My kids loved it, and my wife and I did as well. Have you watched it? 00:50:40 Speaker 4: No? 00:50:41 Speaker 3: No, but I'm thinking about it. 00:50:42 Speaker 1: You gotta watch good Watch it over Thanksgiving? Watch Paddington two with your family. 00:50:48 Speaker 3: Did you watch the b YU Arizona State game today? 00:50:51 Speaker 1: I saw the end of it, saw the the insanity Arizona's Arizona State's coach seems like an insane man. You know, he got he was a little too smart at the end, right, he was trying to be trying to be cute. Right then just scoring, he's like running backwards and throwing it in the crowd. And here's what I don't understand. Hey, how is it not intentional grounding when you throw it fifteen rows into the crowd and you're not out of the pocket. 00:51:18 Speaker 3: I don't know. You gotta get past the line of scrimmage, that's the only thing. 00:51:21 Speaker 1: Wait, no, you also have to be out of the pocket. 00:51:24 Speaker 3: Out of the pocket and past the line of scrimmage. 00:51:26 Speaker 1: Right, yes, but he wasn't out of the pocket. Okay, So if you're not out of the pocket, you cannot just throw it fifteen yards in the crowd. So it should have been intentional grounded. Second, how is it not a penalty when the whole team, when the whole crowd runs on the field and the game's still going on. Yeah, how's that not a penalty? 00:51:44 Speaker 3: Should have been It. 00:51:45 Speaker 1: Took him fifteen minutes to get all those people off the field. That should have been so that should have been thirty yards of penalty, right, there should have been intentional grounding and it should have been a penalty. Now, they probably still wouldn't have scored. But I don't know, Billy, how they didn't call those two calls. 00:52:04 Speaker 3: But it would have been a very different last play. 00:52:06 Speaker 1: And if I was BYU's coach, I would have been losing my mind, especially that they didn't call a penalty on the fans being on the field. 00:52:14 Speaker 3: Not only that they tore one of the goalposts down. I don't know what they did, like just held it up for the last time. 00:52:19 Speaker 1: And he's sitting there. Here's a state coach sitting there screaming, going how could there be a second left? Like, dude, how could you even know? You know what I mean? The referee is sitting there looking at the replay. How did that dude even how could he have even known? He didn't have it in front of him. It was weird, losing his mind. His wife is standing next to him with a look like, honey, you're on national TV. You need to calm down a little bit. It was a wild It's one of the wildest scenes in the history of football right there. Who's next? JP? What's up? JP? 00:52:57 Speaker 4: Hey? 00:52:58 Speaker 6: Two quick points number one? What you're talking about with steps and how he's talking The thing about it is is it's real. I mean, that's why Chip Kelly is an offensive coordinator in Ohio State. That's why Virginia's basketball coach retired. I mean that stuff is real. 00:53:18 Speaker 1: Well god, I mean, like, but you know what if Chip if Chip Kelly, if Chip Kelly decided he didn't want to do it anymore, although he didn't get fired, but if if Tony like didn't didn't do it, you know what I mean, Like, I grant you. The set of skills it will take to be a college football coach in the future is probably different than what it was in the last five years. But you know, sir, like, it is what it is. So you can sit there and hearken for another day, or you can deal with it, you know what I mean? 00:53:47 Speaker 6: Oh, I agree with you. I'm I'm I'm with you, man, I agree with you. I'm just saying it's a real thing. I mean, I'm I'm with you. I mean, but but and man, what that's what leads into my next point is when and when you look at when you look at a backup quarterback, the backup quarterback always the fun guy. He's always the person that the crowd looks for. What what I've I've always looked at is how hard does the guys play when the backup quarterback comes in? Okay, and if you look, this team plays harder when Bowley plays. 00:54:25 Speaker 1: Yeah, Jesse Palmer said that. Jesse Palmer said. Jesse Palmer said, when Bowley came in, he thought everybody turned it up or not. 00:54:33 Speaker 6: Yes. What that means is these guys believe that he should be playing. 00:54:38 Speaker 1: Yeah. 00:54:39 Speaker 6: And so when you talk about earlier in the season of all of the stuff that goes on, that's part of that. That whole division, that's part of it. 00:54:50 Speaker 1: That's all I yeah, yeah, Now it's a fair point. I don't know. I don't know that I think there was division, but you're right, they certainly had a bigger spark when he came in. I don't. I think that's that's undeniable. I want to go back to the though, the changing thing. You know, Billy, forgive me for just a second, but because you know, the election just happened. One of the things my side says that frustrated me is they were mad or at least whatever, like they would about the the way Trump went on all those podcasts right and likent like Rogan and Theovonne, et cetera. And they were like, you know, they were kind of complaining that that's how a lot of people make their decisions. Well, you know what, you can sit there and complain about it or not, but that's just how it is now. Like the reality is there's a ton of people thirty and under who the only news they get is from podcasts like like Rogan and theovonn. So you gotta do it, you know what I mean, Like you don't sit there and why about it? Or you can do it, Like that's just what you gotta do. And I when you fight change, you end up like Kodak and Blockbuster and BlackBerry, or you can be like Apple and be a company that people thought was gonna go away and now is the most powerful company in the world because they adapted to change or Netflix right, Netflix whole business model was about to go up in flames, the idea of through the mail. So then they said, you know what we'll do streaming and now Netflix is Netflix. I mean they got this huge show called Wrestlers. I mean, like that's what that's they were able to do it. Like you, you cannot Mark Stoops, cannot sit and complain about what football is? It is it? So do it or don't? Who's next? 00:56:45 Speaker 3: Camden for four more? 00:56:47 Speaker 1: Camden? Go ahead? 00:56:50 Speaker 14: Hey man a while, I know it's good to see you and Billy. 00:56:56 Speaker 1: I'm doing good. How are you. 00:57:00 Speaker 15: Doing? 00:57:00 Speaker 14: Okay? After that low some matt over the last you know, over the last three years. You know, it's it's been unsuccessful ever since the twenty twenty one Centriant Bowl wins. So rather than the five offens of coordinay we've had over the last five probably five years something like that, rather than you know, the QB sails with Devin Larry and Rock vander griff what like, how do we get these these next future of the twenty five years when you call it football? 00:57:26 Speaker 6: Rolls? 00:57:26 Speaker 4: Like? 00:57:26 Speaker 14: How how how do we like, how do we get. 00:57:28 Speaker 1: Done, Like, how do we get That's a great question. That's a great question. First of all, you you get smarter, and I you go find people who understand the new rules and who and who sort of utilize them. You know. Uh, let me just give you an example. Camden on the basketball scale. Mark Poe has everyone on that staff is really smart and they think about things in an analytical way. They brought it in this guy who's lived in Lexington for many years, uh Ron Brown and Steven Horn, they're friends of mine. They got him to run the collective and they're doing it a different way than a lot of other collectives are doing it. And they were able to raise money in a quick way, and they were able to come up with ideas. And you know, Camon, sometimes they don't all work. When you do this new stuff, sometimes it doesn't work. Not everybody loved the Blue White Game. That wasn't a massive success. But you try stuff and you adapt. Mark I think has got to do that. He's got to get away from the old mentality of like we're gonna outwork them and we're going to this and then and think, okay, what does this new era need? And I think that involves probably changing some of the people came in that are that are around you. 00:58:46 Speaker 14: Yeah yeah, yeah, so like just like to thing is though, it's like he like like you said earlier, man like he doesn't he's not like used to like you know, like you said, he's not used to this old stuff. 00:58:57 Speaker 9: He said. 00:58:57 Speaker 14: This was like, well you said about the old master. It's like, how can you like, you gotta get used to it, because you gotta get used to this, Like how can you get used to like the. 00:59:05 Speaker 15: Old my era? 00:59:07 Speaker 1: You got to bring new people in. They can teach you. It's good to hear from you, Cam and I appreciate it. It's sort of like Billy, I don't like TikTok, or at least I didn't. I've kind of gotten used to it, but I didn't want to be on TikTok. But now everyone's on TikTok. So I said, you know what, we got to get somebody and bring him in who understands this world. And we brought in Mario. And now our TikTok page has fourteen thousand followers. We have a couple videos have gotten over a million views. And it's because rather than sit there and whine about all these kids in their TikTok. I went and got somebody who could do TikTok, and that's kind of Mark. I'm not saying Martin needs to get somebody can, but Martin needs to get somebody who understands what this new era is going to be. Like Who's next? 00:59:50 Speaker 3: Just wait till you start dancing to that TikTok. Account's just gonna skyrocket. I'm not gonna dance. O, We'll get you to dance. Josh is next, Josh, go ahead, Josh. 01:00:00 Speaker 16: A diehard Kentucky fan, longtime listeners, first time ever calling in, who are just just just want to pick you Brian a little bit? At what point do we start holding miss Barnhardt accountable? You know, from from my view, he made horrible contract the season with cal Perry, got bailed out by Arkansas. 01:00:23 Speaker 17: And him you know, leaving on his own, and then you know, in twenty. 01:00:26 Speaker 16: Twenty two the same thing he gave, in my opinion, a stupid contract to. 01:00:32 Speaker 4: You know, stoops that's winning but. 01:00:34 Speaker 16: Not really well. 01:00:35 Speaker 1: I mean, okay, so I'm the same question. You seem like a good fella, So I'm gonna give you the same question I give when people ask me this. It's twenty twenty two, right, Kentucky has just come off a Citrus Bowl where where we won't where we lost that one, but we came off of Centrius Bowl. We had we had no we won that one. We had ten wins that season. Right, and Mark Stoops comes Mark Stoops agent, Yeah, Mark Stoops agent comes in and says, give us this or he may go somewhere else. And we've just come off a ten win season. Will Levis has said he will return for a second year after one of the better quarterback seasons we'd ever had, and and his agent says, I want this, or he may go somewhere else. You're letting him walk. You letting Kentucky fans see the best coach that they've ever had at the time, go walk and go to a school similar to Kentucky. 01:01:38 Speaker 16: I say, I let him walk. 01:01:41 Speaker 1: That's what you do. Yeah, but okay, but again that's easy to say. Now, okay, And I'm not saying you're wrong, But I just want you to think about what the reactions of the fans would have been if Mark Stoops left and let's say he went to Nebraska and he took Will Levin with him and they went there. What would that have been like, I don't think it would have been nice. 01:02:07 Speaker 16: The amount of the contract is what bothers me. He gave him so much money, and the way the contract deals structured with Stoop sad, with cal Perry, they have no incentive to win, so they lay down. 01:02:20 Speaker 1: Yeah, that's not true. Great coach, that's not true. Great coaches. Great coaches hang on. Great coaches have an incentive to win. If you go look at the top ten coaches in the country money wise, seven of them are going to be in the playoff this year, right, Like, like, great coaches win. I don't think the guys who make a lot of money just sit there and go I don't care, right, I mean, Nick Saban was making more money than anybody. He also was winning more money more than anybody, was making more money than anybody. The names, I get you, But again it's all about leverage. You say you would have let him go, Okay, maybe you would have. I'm just saying that's a real hard decision to make. If we had won ten and he walks out the door and he takes Will Levis with him, and he takes and all of our good players transfer and Vince Marrow leaves and takes all our recruiting. I don't think most of our fans would have been thrilled about that. 01:03:24 Speaker 16: I hear you, and I can partially agree with that. I think what bothers me the most is it wasn't just with football though, like we done it with cal too, Calvi. 01:03:36 Speaker 1: Remember when we did it with cal Remember when we did it with Calvo. Coming off twenty seventeen, We've just been to the Final eight with Malik Monk and with staring Fox and Bam aute Bio and UCLA gives cal the offer and Cayl says to Mitch, just match it. At that point, he had really only had one bad year, and we had been to four final fours in seven years, and we were a loop may shot away from another one. You gonna let John Caliperry walk to U c l A at that moment. 01:04:12 Speaker 16: Me personally, absolutely, because Okay, we're UK. Were UK basketball now that were It's whole other story of basketball versus football. Were basketball. It's UK. You know, we're the number one, arguably the number one basketball school in the entire country and always will be. 01:04:32 Speaker 15: So you I. 01:04:35 Speaker 1: I think it is hard, and I appreciate the call. It's good to talk to you. I appreciate you going back and forth with me. I think it's hard to say you do that because I remember when those two situations were happening in the moment, and Billy, I don't remember a lot of people complaining. I don't remember a lot of people wanting him to go to UCLA. And I don't remember a lot of people wanting Stoops to leave after that Citrus bawl. Now, yeah, you're right. So I'm just saying, you know, And I would also say about Mitch, he looks like he nailed two basketball hires this last year. None of us even knew who Kenny Brooks was Mark Pope. Most people, myself included, weren't thrilled about the hire, And so far it looks pretty good. Who's next, Tory, Tory, go ahead, Tory. 01:05:29 Speaker 18: Yeah, man, that was brutal. Listen to part of the benefit of a podcast. I could just skip through that, but I just sit here and listen to that guy. But anyways, I'm pretty mad. I'm pretty mad, as you can probably tell, like most people are. I think you said something similar when Calip Perry was towards the end of his time here that I don't think the relationship between Stoops and his staff and what he puts on the field and the fans, I don't think it's it's untenable now. I don't think he can recover from. 01:05:58 Speaker 1: It's that bad. Gets that bad right now. I mean, do you think the Stoops thing is as bad as the cow thing was last year? 01:06:07 Speaker 18: Yeah? Because not not for any personal reason or like I'm not an ex's and o's guy. 01:06:13 Speaker 1: He's had like. 01:06:14 Speaker 18: Fifteen or sixteen different staffs since he got here in terms of like just primary coaches, just rotating, and he's created his culture of oops. And it's like Cutter comes in in the second and the second half. The first play he sacked for ten yards. The immediate first play he comes in immediately sacked. We got down to the one yard line on a mirapulous drive. We were on the one yard line, and that drive ended up with us missing a field goal from thirty three yards. 01:06:44 Speaker 6: Ooh, And I mean we just have to grin and bear it. 01:06:48 Speaker 8: And it's it's like if we get a pick six or. 01:06:51 Speaker 18: A big defensive play, it's Maxwell Harrison's given somebody what Willie on the opposite side of field, and that's fifteen yards and it's gone oop and we just have to sit here and watch it. And he's it's weaponized incompetence, and it's it's every game. It's like the question marks are trending on Twitter from the Kentucky media, just like what is this? And it's bad and you can there's so many people that it's like a laughing stock and has become a meme actually funny. 01:07:20 Speaker 7: It's hard. 01:07:20 Speaker 18: You'd be hard to script what happened in this game because the amount of times that, like the sinner just threw the ball over Cutter's head immediately after a big player, It's like you can't. Yeah, like you don't need to be in a situation where he has to catch it. Why don't you just play normal. 01:07:40 Speaker 1: Football and stop? 01:07:42 Speaker 18: I feel like Charlie Brown. I feel like Charlie Brown every week watching this team to spend one hundred times. 01:07:48 Speaker 16: There. 01:07:48 Speaker 1: I appreciate the call. I appreciate the call. I I don't disagree with some of what you said there. There is a kind of an oops. 01:07:55 Speaker 4: This. 01:07:56 Speaker 1: I don't personally think the stupid situation is where the cow sit you wation was last year like unredeemable with some fans. But maybe I'm wrong. I mean, it's hard to read, to be honest with you, it's hard to tell. Yeah, So I think a lot of it's going to penning what happens next week. Though, losing a Louisville is gonna not be good if it happens, but we could still win. I mean, they're very beatable. 01:08:25 Speaker 3: Who's up next is a funny visual though. 01:08:28 Speaker 1: That is a funny Georgia State. By the way, the team that beat Vandy. Do you know what their record is after having beaten Vandy to in eight and eight and one of their two wins is against a Vandy team that beat Alabama? All right, go. 01:08:43 Speaker 3: Ahead, last caller, Brad, Brad, go ahead, finished strong. 01:08:49 Speaker 17: He was up Fellows. I'm a jump on the bandwagon of the last caller. I'm right there where he is. We have become the universe of the moral victories. 01:09:04 Speaker 4: I'm the tired of it. 01:09:06 Speaker 17: I think at this point you'd have to get whoever you got to get in the room, the attorneys, whoever it is. They need to figure out a deal. 01:09:14 Speaker 1: And let's say, let me ask you a question, because again, I want you to I want to put you in the chair of the a D. Let's say, Mark Stoops, We're to say to you, what does that sound behind you? 01:09:26 Speaker 17: By the way, I probably my kids. 01:09:31 Speaker 1: Okay, Let's say let's say you were to sit in a room with Mark Stoops's agent and he said to you, we're not leaving unless you give us every dollar. And then you went to your boosters, your primary football boosters, and they said, we like Mark, we're not paying for it. What are you going to do? 01:09:52 Speaker 15: Well, that's why I think you know that DC. If we're getting a lot of money to be in these positions, and you got to figure out who and what you need to you know, come up with to come to the to the table to get what. 01:10:06 Speaker 1: If it doesn't exist? But what if it doesn't then what if it doesn't exist? 01:10:11 Speaker 8: Then then what? 01:10:13 Speaker 15: And then what I think you're going to have is that last guy, the last guy that called and me, You're gonna have a bunch of us as fans that probably are going to show. 01:10:22 Speaker 6: Up, maybe not at all. 01:10:24 Speaker 15: Maybe you know, I don't know what it is, but I mean it it's going to financially impact them. 01:10:32 Speaker 17: It's like they can just roll out. 01:10:35 Speaker 15: They can't just roll out any kind of product and just think people are going to keep coming back, because. 01:10:39 Speaker 17: Like he said, it's the Charlie Brown effect. Man, I'm tired. 01:10:43 Speaker 15: I'm tired of something, you know, watching these games and they do exactly what he said. They'll make a thirty yard bomb and the next play, you know, do a stupid, unsportsmanlike conduct. 01:10:55 Speaker 16: You know. 01:10:56 Speaker 1: No, I think you make a very valid point. I appreciate the call. That's a good one to end on. There's no easy answer because I usually focus on where would you get the money? There is something on the other side, which is, if you roll everything out the same again next year, how do you get people to buy in. It's a fair point, completely fair point, and I don't know. That's why I am a little bit pessimistic about the state of the program because I don't know. I don't know that there's an easy answer, and that's why I said what I said to start. 01:11:28 Speaker 18: Man. 01:11:29 Speaker 1: Mark's been great here and I hope that if he ends up coming back, he approaches this in a way that sounds differently than he's approached it the last year. Because I can't reiterate enough how much this world of college football is about to change and those who are on the cutting edge that's going to be what the next twenty years are. So I hope we can get to a point one way or the other that we get there. Billy, thank you very much. We went a little long tonight, but that's because it was a good show, good callers. It's probably the best set of callers we've had for one of these in a while. So thank you all. We will see you on Monday, Monday in studio. Tuesday and Wednesday we will be at the bar. 01:12:14 Speaker 3: Actually, if you are Wednesday, we're on a remote in Glasgow for Don Franklin. 01:12:20 Speaker 1: You're telling me you're sending me to Glasgow right before thanks for Thanksgiving break, Yes, that decision. 01:12:27 Speaker 3: Well, it's been on the schedule for a couple of months. 01:12:29 Speaker 1: I thought we were going to London so I could get it on my way home. 01:12:32 Speaker 3: Now it's actually the opposite direction. 01:12:36 Speaker 1: You're sending me the opposite direction of my home for Thanksgiving. 01:12:41 Speaker 3: Day before Thanksgiving. 01:12:43 Speaker 1: What all right, I'm just gonna and we'll wrap it up with that, all right, Happy Saturday night, everybody. We'll see you later. This has been the local TOYSR Post Gitting Show
